Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
Michael Bumpus.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Playfake going to roll right, jumps.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
It off into the right, flat to Michael Bumpers, who
bounces off of one tackler, gets inside the forty down
of the forty five yard line.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Powered by seahawks dot Com.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Matt pumpfakes looking at the gold line. He throws it
into the end zone.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Touchdown, Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpers with a diving catching
the end zone. A ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpers,
and the kid out of Washington State has found himself.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
A place on this team.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Now here's your host, Nasa Chopie.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
The Seahawks unfortunately fall in heartbreaking fashion at Looinfield of
the Minnesota Vikings twenty seven to twenty four. We are
broadcasting live from the Seahawks Podcast Studio, presented by Sony,
the official partner of the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Bump My heart hurts, man, Yeah, I'm in pain still. Yeah,
it was it was close.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
Man.
Speaker 5 (00:55):
You went down to the wire to a team that
was twelve and two, the team that is a all
round good football team. They can run the rock. Not
the greatest have run it, but they can run it.
They can throw it. Defense has its spots where they
play well. It showed up on Sunday. You were in
the fight, and the worst part is that it felt
like you did it to yourself for the most part. Yeah,
but that's how you grow and that's how you learn.
(01:15):
The National Football League.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
All these teams can play it, just it just stinks
because you're like, no, we're there, We're right there. It's
just not quite getting over the finish line. But it
is what it is we do. We're gonna spend some
time obviously talking about the Chicago Bears that are coming
up super quick. It's a short week, Seahawks playing on Thursday,
so we're gonna do a little combo, a little reaction,
and then a little preview of the Bears. But before
we get to the Bears, we got a break down
exactly what had happened.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
See what had happened was what had happened at first
was what had happened was on Hawk Talk.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
You mentioned a bump Seahawks win totaltel is one of
the best teams in the NFC, came up short and
it didn't start great. For the third week in a row,
there's been a little issues defensively where the Seahawks have
allowed a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
On the game's first possession.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Vikings went twelve plays, seven in the yards, which ended
with a five yard touchdown pass from Sam Darneld to
Jordan Addison that made the score seven to nothing. Both
teams would pun on the next two drive before the
offense got things going.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
Yeah it was You saw that first drive and you're like,
come on now, not again, not two weeks in a row.
But things start to happen right like you mentioned. A
couple punts, team start to bounce back. Our team starts
to bounce back and Gino Smith. He then leads a
seven play eighty seven yard drive which ended in a
twenty five yard touchdown to DK. We needed to see
that good ball placement, DK going up and get it
(02:31):
in that tie at the game at seven after two
more puns by After two more punts, the Vikings will
find the end zone again when Sam Donald connected with
Justin Jefferson on a fourteen yard touchdown that made the
score fourteen to seven. That one was rough man. He
had Trey Brown and kind of lined up off sides.
He said he checked with the referee too, which blows
my mind. If he checks with the rep the naturally
he's going to back up. Then the next play they
(02:53):
go right back at him. The best receiver, arguably the
best receiver in the game, looks like he is.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
No, that's a tough one, and technically the officials don't
have to tell you where you're on her offit. I
feel like it's the same way from going to high school,
middle school to college. But usually they'll at least give
you a not if you're clearly it's kind of light.
But that's a tough one because you know, Paul brought
up a great point because in that case, if he's
off sides, was the receiver actually on the line of scrimmage.
It's all subjective because, yeah, it's hard either way. The
(03:22):
Seahawks had a sack on the board, you're getting a stop.
That's four point swing right there. Of course, she doesn't
go your way, justin Jefferson gets in the end zone.
And then, to make matters worse, on the very next
offensive play, Gino Smith was intercepted deep in Seahawks territory.
Defense bounced back, though held strong, held the Vikings to
a field goal that made the score seventeen to seven,
and then after two more punts, the Seahawks would march
(03:42):
down the field in one minute five seconds eighty eight yards,
an amazing drive finishing with an eighteen yard touchdowns the Jackson,
Smith and Jigba that made the score seventeen to fourteen.
Head in the locker room. Jasn continue to do what
he does, and that's ball out.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
I love that drive man Jason at three receptions, DK
had two and for the most part this year, the
Seahawks operate the best in those situations. Right, two minutes
lining up, let's get it so, like you said, seventeen
to fourteen going in a half and we're actually feeling
pretty good. It could have been a lot worse than
that situation. The Seahawks they kick a field goal of
their first possession of the second half, tiny game at seventeen.
(04:17):
The Vikings would answer with a field goal of their
own after an eight play ten yard drive, making a
score twenty to seventeen. After four straight punts, the Seahawks
would put together another really impressive drive. They go on
eleven plays sixty eight yards any with a Geno Smith
touchdown to AJ Barner in the back of the end zone,
which was a heck of a grab.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
And the design of the play was good too.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
JSN crossing the face of the safety and you have AJ.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Barner getting vertical playing the back line of the end zone.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
Safety goes with Jackson Smith and Jigba boom aj up top.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Great touchdown.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
It looked like almost like Tyree was that Tyree in
the Super Bowl with the Giants, Like he kind of
pinned it up here went down with it.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Nice to see eighty eight make a play.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
No great play. And that was a fastball too. That
was a tough catch, harder than a looked on TV.
I mean, there's some degree difficulty there and Gino had
to put it in a tight window, so he threw
his fastball. So love to see that. Seahawks take the lead.
At that moment, you're feeling really good. They're up to
twenty four to twenty, their first lead of the game,
four minutes left in the ball game. You're thinking, Okay,
the defense is starting to play well. They just need
to stop. Unfortunately, four plays later, the Vikings were in
(05:19):
the end zone again after a thirty nine yard touchdown
of Justin Jefferson that made the score twenty seven to
twenty four Minnesota. And again the Seahawks has got bit
with two untimely penalties, this time Byron Murphy. And this
is one really hurts too, because again it's it didn't
It wasn't the reason there was a sack. It just
happened on the play Byron beats his guy gets it,
makes a big time play, gets a sack. Unfortunately, face
(05:40):
maxed on Sam Darnold, huge play, next play, touchdown Justin Jefferson.
And this is where the Mike McDonald spoke on his
radio show this morning. This is probably the toughest play
of the game. Seehawk get the ball back. There's plenty
of time to come back. Come down the field. Three
fifty one left in the game. They drive down to
the Vikings thirty seven yard line and then Gino Smith
is sacked. That puts the kind of puts them behind
(06:02):
the sticks. Then third and sixteen, you're no man's land.
They opt to go for a sixty yard field goal.
Jason Myers missed that and it was pretty unfortunate. And
we're just talking off their before he got on here.
You want to break down that play a little bit
what happened on the sack because coach MacDonald said that
was even more so in the interceptions that was the
biggest play the game.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yeah, that sack was crazy.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Man.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
You go had DK and I believe no offense or
somebody was two by two formation. And what the Vikings
do early and downs downs one and two. They love
to sit in that pressure. So I know a lot
of people were thinking, oh, Greb, why didn't you run
the football there? I would have liked to run it,
but I understand why he threw the football there. So
if I'm looking at the defense, I'm genal the right side.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Man.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
They're bringing pressures, bringing four against three. That means the
running backs has to step up and help with the stunt.
And the stunt was crazy man. You got the outside
backs hooping all the way in. You have your your
three tag going outside and you're bringing another backer. So
DK has a ten yard d called it dig roup.
And if DK were to just stop and sit in space,
he stayed away from that safety over there. But instead
(07:00):
DK just keeps going as almost like he drifts a
little bit. He's like dang am I getting the ball
and not getting the ball Gino. During that time he's
looking to his left side, nothing's there. He gets back
to the right side with time to get the ball
to DK, but then the pressure just gets to him.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
He's got to tuck it. It's a sack.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
I understand people's frustration with him, but if you know
the Vikings their tendencies, you might call it the play
that grubbed his calls. And we're going to attack the
part of the field. I think they're going to bring
pressure from it was there. You just didn't have time.
You even had the protection. You just couldn't hold up
long enough to let the football go.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Yeah, and it's unfortunate because you were in field goal
rangeos right on the list, not like Meyers missed by
seven yards. It was right there. If you don't lose
that seven yards in that play, you know. But it
didn't end the game though, because after that the Sea
defense comes up big one more time, get to stop.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
But on that final drive bump false start to start.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
It, and then Gino's intercepted after some miscommunication with him.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
DK Metcalf.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
You alluded to it as well on your show today
that it's just it's just a tough situation.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
A lot went on.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
There's a another good stunt by this Vikings defense pressure
right away, Gino has to go the ball before DKs
in and out of his break and then unfortunately he's intercepted.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
And now is all she wrote for the Seahawks.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Yeah, tough way in that game, but you had a chance,
you had a chance to win, and end of the day,
that's all you can ask for the Seahawks out getting
the Vikings three hundred sixty one to two ninety eight
held the Vikings below their average when it comes to
all around yards. They had two turnovers and the Vikings
had none of The Seahawks are also penalized eleven times
for seventy seven yards. They were so crucial, man, so
(08:30):
it almost seemed like every time there was a penalty
there was a big play that followed after that for
the Vikings. Justin Jefferson he had one hundred and forty
four yards on tim receptions and two touchdowns. Sam Darnold
twenty two or thirty five two fifty six, three touchdowns,
zero interceptions. Now they need to beat the Bears, Rams
need to lose to the Cardinals and then you square
up on Week eight. Team and see even get her done.
(08:53):
But need some help. Yeah, I know it's unfortunate. It's
the thirty year in a row.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
The seahawshould need a little bit of help going to
the last couple weeks of the season. It is what
it is. They can only control what they can't control.
There's a couple crazy other scenarios. I don't even get
into all of that because I don't even know them.
All The playoff serious something especially come out. But the
easiest thing for everyone is Cardinals beat the Rams. You
beat the Bears and the Rams, he'll be in the playoffs.
So that's what happened. But there was some people who
(09:18):
made plays. Let's get to the playmakers.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Touch up. Playmakers told him.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
What time it is? Ho wait, we're broadcasting.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
We are broadcasting from the Seahawks Podcast Studio of Zenda
by Sony, the official partner of the Seattle Seahawks Bump
and we will start with Geno Smith. Thirty one to
forty three, three hundred and fourteen yards. He did have
three touchdowns. He did have the other two interceptions. He
did Tye Russell Wilson for the most three hundred yard
passing games in a season in franchise history with five.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
So there's obviously a little bit of bad, but there's
so much good.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Gino through some dimes in there, the throw he had
the js San, he makes that catch to throw to
AJ keeping the Seahawks in the game. It's unfortunate the
interceptions that happened, but they're right there at the end
of the game, and Coach McDonald talks about it. He's
just combatting his combatant, you know, competing do everything he
can to stay in this football game. That kind of
shows you his character. It just sucks that he, you know,
couldn't pull it out. I was thinking he's gonna have
(10:16):
that Geno Smith magic at the end of games all
this game time, game winning drives. Unfortunately that wasn't in
the cards. But Geno again, still still making a lot
of players out there.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
He's having himself a good year.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
I mean, I know, the interceptions stick out and they
should fifteen right, seventeen touchdowns, fifteen interceptions, but still throwing
for thirty nine hundred yards right now, completing seventy percent
of his passes. He's got four game winning drives this year.
I mean, goodness, gracious, what else can this man do?
But Yeah, it's been a good season and a tough
season at the same time for Geno. Jayson is having
(10:46):
his best season in his short two year career. Eight receptions,
ninety five yards in one touchdown, he says. The eighth
game in a row, Jason has led the Seahawks in receiving.
Jason also became the tenth player in franchise history to
record a one thousand yard season. There was a time
during this year where people were questioning whether he was
worth the twentieth pig. Sounds pretty funny, now, yeah, I
mean you sound silly at this point because JSN is
(11:08):
the number one option. He's a go to guy. He's
been reliable. I'm happy to see him ball. I was
happy to see this guy get some love too. DK metcalf.
I know, only three receptions, but fifty seven yards, one touchdown,
the first touchdown since Week seven against Atlanta.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
That's crazy, but he made some history.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
DK pass Steve Largin for the most receiving touchdowns into
players first six seasons in franchise history with forty seven.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
No, it's great to see DK part of this offense.
We talked about it on the preview podcast. The Seahawks
are after best. When DK metcalf is making explosive plays
down the field and he's evolved in this offense. You
put that combination with Jackson to the Jag but usually
good things happen there. So big ups the DK on
his game yesterday. And then defensively, I think this is
kind of underrated. He probably didn't get a lot of
attention for how he played there today, but Jared Reed
(11:53):
four tackles, one sack, one TfL, two quarterback hits, one
passes defended. He also got to do his tribute to
Michael Bennett. I liked that after the sack dance. So
I love what Jay Reid's doing. He's a veteran sending
a good example for the young guy, so it's good
to see him kind.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Of ball out.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
Yeah, this guy needed today. Reek Willing two tackles, three
passes defended. People are pointing to that touchdown that was
given up. Thirty nine yard touchdown of Justin Jefferson wasn't
necessarily Rieg's fault and was covered two. He forced him inside.
Justin Jefferson like he's supposed to. Safety was just late
over the top to help out. I think Reek had
himself a decent game didn't start, so I was, I was.
(12:30):
I liked his resilience. How he just bounced back and
still made some plays. He had two tackles, three passes defended.
So big up to Reek too.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
No, I like that when things happened, he had a
great attitude, got out there and made some play.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
So again, another guy.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
The Seahawks rare at their best when he's out in
the field making plays, and love to see him doing that.
But let's uh, we've done it. We talked about it.
We've moved past the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Game, moving on in the past. Yeap, what's on tap?
Speaker 1 (12:55):
What's on tap?
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Chicago Bears four in eleven, last place in the NFC
North bump and their season. Let me tell you, man,
they're four and eleven, But it didn't start out that bad.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
We're going hot. There were four and two.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
They had wins over the Titans, Rams, Panthers, and Jaguars,
the losses of Texans and Colts, and then things kind
of went off a cliff.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
They have lost nine games in a row.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
They fired their head coach, Matt Eberflus after that Thanksgiving
Day game and kind of the fiasca that happened at
the end of the game with clock management. Thomas Brown
is now the interim head coach and he's had a
ride soart of the year as the passing game coordinator.
Then takes over as offensive coordinator after let Shane Waldron go,
and now he's the acting head coach.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
So the Bears are the fastest climb in NFL history. Yeah,
good for y'all. I guess enjoy it why you can.
But he's uh, has been much better. He's been on
three since he took over.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
The last three games, the Bears have been outscored by
a combined one two to forty two.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
So it's been it's been rough. Bump, oh we it's been. Yeah,
it's been rough for these Bears. But you know they
got talent. Man, We're gonna talk about Caleb. He's not
having a horrible No, he's not. He's having a scene
as in Jane Daniels is happening. That's that's all that is.
But the Bears took on the lines yesterday. The Bears
failed to the Lions thirty four to seventeen. It was
all lines from the start as they jumped out to
(14:08):
a twenty to zero lead in the first half. The
Bears tried to keep things interesting, adding two touchdowns in
the second quarter, but if Sam laporta touchdown early in
the fourth quarter put the game out of reach.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
And I love the play design.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
I heard it at first, and I heard people talking
about it in describing game. Then I saw it Jared
Goff and gives it a great job selling it. So
what happens is Jared Golf pretends like he's stumbling, falling down,
gives falls down to the ground, get Laporter starting on
the right side of the formation, crossing all the way
to the left up the seam. The linebackers are frozen
because they're looking at the backfield, and you go over
(14:40):
at the top and they score easy touchdown. It's the
things the Lions do. It's almost like it's not supposed
to happen, like not supposed to work during the week
to prepare for stuff. Every time I see something this
like where do you get the time?
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Man? Where do you get it? It's it's wild.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
But yeah, they pulled it off and Jared Golf had
a solid day. Twenty three or thirty two hundred and
thirty six yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions. Gibbs first game
without Montgomery, right, Yeah, so Gibbs, you know, he got
the bulk of the carries one o nine for one touchdown.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
He had Williams.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
He led all receivers one hundred and fall they at
three on five receptions, including an eighty two yard touchdown.
I just found out, are just realized Randall l is
his wide receiver coach.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Oh yeah, So when.
Speaker 5 (15:20):
I saw Antoine Randa L getting hyped, that's like childhood
for me. He might be like the first and second
jersey ever guy was Antoine Randa L. It was cool
to see him on the sideline with the Lions man
four hundred and seventy five yards of total offense. Caleb
was twenty six to forty for the Bears, three hundred
and thirty four yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions, but he
led the team in rushing with twenty four yards.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
That's not great. That's not gonna get it done. Antoine
Rendell fantastic player. I do have bad memories. I got
to see the play still, But anyway, he's like a
stand up dude, great ball coach. I loved him on
the Thanksgivin D game because I think I think it
was Jameson Williams was he getting out and he was
letting and it was like a child talking to the kid.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Yeah, don't you say one more anyway, So no, they
took care of business there. We know what the lines are,
lines of good football team. But the Bears in a
point right now where they're just in a downhill spiral
and they have a good players. So they said we're
gonna talk about but it seems like last couple weeks
they get big down, big early and it's kind of
(16:24):
a wrap from then on. So we'll get into all
those guys coming up here in a second. But these
two teams have played, you know, dese amount of times
over the years.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Let's know the history, No your history.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Seahawks lead the all time series eleven to eight, eleven
and six in the regular season, owns to you in
the postseason, and the Bears have won the last two
games now. The last one this came in twenty twenty one.
The Seahawks lost to Loominfield twenty five to twenty four,
Week sixteen of twenty twenty one Bump and this game
was tough for a lot of reasons. This is year again.
Russell Wilson broke his finger. The Seahawks playoffs were hanging
(16:58):
by threat. They're essentially out of it, but they weren't
mathematically out of it.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
At that point.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
They were also playing their second game in five days
because for whatever reason, we moved the Rams game to
a Tuesday to accommodate the Rams because they had some
COVID issues crazy, which messed us up because then we
actually lost players. Sorry I don't need to reopen that
old wound, but anyway, so they were playing two games
and then there was a snowstorm.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Do you remember that. For a while after the pregame
show that day, I thought it was just gonna be
me and you, yep, because there was stuck.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Goodness gracious, so it wasn't a great deal. And then
on the field the Seahawks blew with seventeen to seven lead.
Nick Foles started that game for injured rookie Justin Fields,
and he led them on a game winning drive at
the end of that game and cooked up with Jimmy
Grant for that touchdown and then they got the two
point conversion with stealing that victory. Russell was sixteen to
twenty seven one eight one, two touchdowns, and there were
shot Penny big Day seventeen carries, one thirty five, one touchdown,
(17:51):
Gerald Everett leading all receivers, and Bobby Record set a
franchise record in tackles. He had that broken by Jordan
Brooks next year. Then he went back and tied it
the following your after that again twenty twenty weddings and
seen that long ago. But every time we talk about it,
all the guys we're talking about are on this ball
club anymore.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
It's you mentioned it during the pregame show, our postgame
show on Sunday. How these are completely different rosters. That's
how quick things change in the NFL. It's hard to
create Super Bowl championship teams.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
But the turnover in the league is crazy.
Speaker 5 (18:25):
So if you make it to your second contract, anybody
make it to the second contract, big ups to them
for sure.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
All Right, let's look in the division. It was not
a good week for Seahawk fans. Anybody will give you
an update on the NFC West, what's the word and
the Seahawks?
Speaker 2 (18:42):
So the NFC West champs again, what's the word in
the West? On Hawk talk?
Speaker 5 (18:49):
Unfortunately, the Rams won this past weekend.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
They beat the Jets. There now ninety six.
Speaker 5 (18:53):
The Seahawks lose, they are eight and seven, the Cardinals
are seven and eight, and the San Francisco forty Niners
the bottom of the division at six and nine. As
we mentioned earlier, the Seahawks do not control their own
destiny when it comes to making the playoffs. The Seahawks
needs to win on Thursday and the Rams need to
lose to the Cardinals on Saturday for the Seahawks have
(19:13):
a real shot at winning the division. Not a great
weekend for the Seahawks and their fans.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
No, no, it wasn't. We didn't get any help at all,
you know. And it's been brought to my attention that technically,
if the Seahawks and Rams both finished at ten and seven,
there might be still a chance for the Seahawks. But
it's like seventeen million tie breakers, and it's depending on
common opponents, strength of victory, all kinds of stuff. So
it's a lot easier if the Seahawks win and the
(19:40):
Rams loose, and then it's just squat up for the
division title. So we'll see. But leave Daron Rodgers, bump,
Leave Darreon Rodgers this point. Seaff fans everywhere gave you
just enough hope to think they were going to pull
off the upset, but it was not the case. Jets
that go down on their first possession fourteen plays, ninety
nine yards anyone touchdown on Devonte Adams, they would mix
(20:00):
the extra point, which could have been foreshadowing. They go
into the halftime with a nine to six lead, but
they would not score another point the rest of the game.
Rams score thirteen fourth quarter points to win nineteen to nine.
Stafford was just fourteen to nineteen, four hundred and ten
yards and a touchdown, one interception. Kyrain Williams started the
show one hundred and twenty two yards on twenty three carries,
one touchdown, and then pooking a cool of fifty six
(20:21):
yards on eight receptions. Aaron Rodgers twenty eight of forty
two two fifty six, one touchdown, zero interceptions, and DeVante
finished the day seven receptions sixty yards when touchdown. The
end of the day, bump, go Cardinals, and that the
last time. I say that be the last time.
Speaker 5 (20:38):
And let's your child goes to Stanford and you say,
go Cardinal.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
You might say that, or if we're in a weird
strength of victory conversation, and we need the Cardinals to
beat the forty nine ers a week eighteen, then that'll
be the only other time.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Yeah, but that's crazy.
Speaker 5 (20:55):
Don't make your heads spend so many scenarios, all right,
So then we have the forty nine whers at the Dolphins.
Dolphins kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a twenty
nine to seventeen victory over the forty nine Ers. After
losing an overtime in the Super Bowl last year, the
Niners are officially eliminated from the playoffs. How quickly things change.
The forty nine Ers tried to keep it close, trailing
(21:15):
two in the fourth, but the Dolphins will score the
game's final ten points for the victory. Brock Perty was
twenty six to forty three hundred and thirteen yards, two touchdowns,
one interception. DeVonta a Chen was one hundred and ninety
total yards and a touchdown. What are they gonna do
with Perdy? That's gonna be an interesting offseason for the Niners.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Yeah, man, Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
It's because it's more about how does Shanahan and them
feel about party? Now that you've gotten to see what
it looks like when all the stars.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Are in the ligne. You don't have Healthycaffrey.
Speaker 4 (21:43):
You don't have a healthy Ayuk, you don't have you know,
a Kittles dealt with stuff.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Deebo's up and down. It'll be interesting.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
I mean, I think it's he's proven he can play, yeah,
but it'll be interesting to see if he gets that
bag he gets paid.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Because you know, Sam Darnold's floating around out there. He
was in San Francisco last year. System.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
Who knows. That'll be an off season conversation. But let's
flip our attention back to the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
Man up, Hey, who you got? Who you got? You
know what time it is? Man up man up? Brother,
man up man up?
Speaker 1 (22:14):
On Hawk Talk.
Speaker 4 (22:15):
Caleb Williams bumpy a little to it. He's having a
pretty good season all things considered. Obviously they're four and eleven.
But obviously, if you're a college football fan, you know
about Caleb Williams for his time in Oklahoma and then
at usc where he won the Heisman Trophy playing for
Lincoln Riley Nuts year over forty five hundred passing yards,
forty two touchdowns, five interceptions, ran for three hundred and
(22:36):
two yards.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Was that dude?
Speaker 4 (22:38):
Little dip in production that next year, but he still
finishes two years in the se with seventy two touchdowns,
ten interceptions, first overall pick two of the Chicago Bears,
and honestly, do you remember all the conversations in the
off season that he was going to the best situation, the.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Situation that at first round, first overall pick has ever
been to.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
And on paper it look that way because they have
some dudes were about to talk about all these guys,
but it obviously didn't go that way. He's had multiple coaches,
multiple play callers already in his rookie season, and he's
played behind twenty one different offensive line combinations this season,
which is nuts bump but has been all bad. He
has been attempted three hundred and twenty six straight passes
without an interception, the sixth longest single season stretch in
(23:17):
NFL history, registering the longest such marked by any player
in Bears history and by any rookie passer in league history.
With his four to three hundredard game, Cables now tied
with the most games above three hundred passing yards in
a single season in franchise history. I mean, he's done
a lot this year. Already for a guy who's had
to deal with all this kind of adversity. The talents there,
you can see it, and he's actually playing some decent football.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
He's taking care of the rock and he's got some
weapons over there. He was thrusting into the best situation
a rookie could be him with the players. There's people upstairs,
people signing checks, people call him plays that influence what's
going on there. That's what the Bears have to fix.
They're not going to fix it this year. Obviously, two
games left, but he's gonna be okay in this league.
(24:01):
I'm not worried about Caleb at all.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
No, let me look at his numbers.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
He's three fourteen of five h five three thousand, two
hundred seventy one yards, nineteen touchdowns to five interceptions. You
talk about if you're taking care of the football, that's great,
and he's doing this.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
He's been sacked sixty times this year. Dude, it's him
Stroud and Gino.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
Yeah, I saw today, knows I think forty nine hmm, yeah,
not the best number. But again, to do what he's
doing with what's going on, you know, he's playing well
and for the Seahawks this week.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
You need to make him look like a rookie.
Speaker 4 (24:33):
He needs to be in a situation where he sacked
four or five different times, where he's in a position
to put the ball for grabs.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
And earlier last year, in this year.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
Jared Goff had a crazy street coming in and playing
the Seahawks game FO fifteen or something like that.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Josh Allen hadn't been intercepted in a super long time.
Josh on Josh crime, Joe got him, job got him.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
So I'm hoping we can channel some of the energy
this week and Sea Austa take care of this.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
There, I'm with you there, make him look like a rookie.
Speaker 5 (24:56):
Toss the football up, do something you haven't done in
over three hundred passes. Will just throw an in interception.
Let's look at our quarterback Geno Smith. He has played hard,
and he played hard against the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
He did a good job.
Speaker 5 (25:08):
He dropped a dime to aj Barney, got Jaysenevolve, he
got DK involved in three hundred yards passing. He's now
tied for the most enfranchise history in a season five
times doing that tide with Russell Wilson on the year
thirty nine hundred and thirty seven yards, seventeen touchdowns, fifteen interceptions,
two hundred and thirty nine yards on forty eight carries,
and two touchdowns. When you look at him appost all
(25:29):
the other quarterbacks, he's third in the league in passing yards, fourth,
tie for fourth when it comes to completion percentage, second
in completions, fourth in attempts going up against the Barrister
twenty six. In overall defense, they're twenty third against the pass.
Might be set up for Gino to have himself another day.
Maybe he owns the franchise record for passing yards or
three hundred passing yard games. If he does it this week,
(25:52):
that'll give him six and but he have to deal
with Montes Sweat and Gervin Dexter Junior Sweat. He's a
former first round pick to the Commanders in twenty nine team,
he's still playing some good football. Twenty nine tackles, four
and a half sacks, eight TFLs, one forced fumble, two
passes defendant. In Dexter Senior leads a team with five sacks,
forty four tackles, one pass defendant. The Bears ring third
(26:13):
in NFL in the NFL an opponent red zone touchdown percentage.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
It's the NFL. Every team's gonna be good at something, right, Yeah, No,
they have their Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
The one nice thing about the Bears is, for the
first time in two weeks we're not playing a team
that is.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
Over the top good at taking the ball away. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
The Bears their interception numbers, I think their leader has
two or three. So it's not the Vikings and it's
not the Packers, which is good.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
Monte Swift the baller. He with Pro Bowler twenty twenty three,
so he can play. So the Seahawks will still have
their work cutout for them on defense. And let's go
over to their running back, DeAndre Swift taking on the
Seahawks front seven. And DeAndre he's been on three teams
in three years, and normally that's not a good sign, right,
But the.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Dude is playing good football because the lack of production.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
Swift is coming off a career year in twenty twenty
three with the Eagles, where he rushed for one thousand
yards and six touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
He's also voted to the Pro Bowl for the first time.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
He's total of five rushing touchdowns in his fourth straight
season with three rushing scores eclipsing thirty five yards.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
It's the third most in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Since Week four, Swift has told the one thousand and
eighty five scrimmage yards top ten in my running backs
and he's sixty four scrimmag yards away from a career
high there, so he's playing good football bump. He's also
a dual threat through the air. He's got seventeen hundred
and seventy career receiving yards, as fourthmost by any player
in that span on the year, eight hundred and forty
one yards, five touchdowns, and he's also got thirty eight
(27:30):
receptions three hundred and fifty eight yards. Seahawks had a
good performance on the ground against the Vikings. Aaron Jones
is a good football player. He didn't do much. He
had sixty seven yards on eighteen carries. Seahawks are eighteenth
overall against the run one hundred and twenty four yards
per game. So hopefully they can continue that trend and
shut him down and not give Caleb Williams another part
of his offense to kind of help him out.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
Would he say twenty four yards rushing for Caleb last week?
Speaker 2 (27:54):
All right?
Speaker 5 (27:55):
Leave the team again with about twenty five I'll give
you twenty five.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
I'll give you twenty five. Oh, okay, that's fine, that's fine.
Look at their receivers.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
They got a good trio man Dj Moore, romanduze Keenan Allen.
All these guys can ball. Dj Moore as their leading receiver.
He has thirteen hundred yards and eight touchdowns with his
first season with the Bears, a sneaky thirteen hundred Yeah. No,
it started off rough though well in twenty twenty three.
Twenty twenty three, about to say, who I read that wrong? Okay,
(28:21):
last year was his first year with the Bears.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Boom.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
I was gonna say, I remember this year there being
like some problems with him getting the football.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
So he's beated up a little bit.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
But yeah, it was a thirteen hundred yards eighteen touchdowns
last year. Since joining the league in twenty eighteen, More
has seven three hundred and ninety one receiving yards.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
And he's bawling.
Speaker 5 (28:39):
He's he's compete with guys like Justin Jefferson and they
came in during the same year. And whenever you're being
talked about with Justin Jefferson, you're doing something right. This
year eighty three receptions, eight hundred and twenty six yards
and five touchdowns. Then you got the og Keenan Allen,
one of the best route runners in the game. He's
been the league since twenty thirteen, started back with the
(29:00):
San Diego Chargers. Yeah, that's how old my man is,
all right. He ranks third in receptions among active players
nine hundred and sixty six and fifth in receiving yards
eleven two hundred and twenty four. Alan also he owns
the most games with twelve plus catches in one hundred
yards receiving in NFL history, with twelve of them things,
while his fifteen career games with at least eleven receptions
(29:22):
and one hundred yards it is also an all time
record baller sixty two yards six ninety four seven touchdowns
this year. He's so consistent. He's not a real fast receiver,
but he's a route runner and his hands are great.
And then of course you got the young man of
rome A Doonza. Big ups to u Dub his last
year at UDUB ninety two receptions, sixteen hundred yards and
(29:42):
thirteen touchdowns and drafted ninth overall last year to of course,
the Chicago Bears with one.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Hundred and four receiving yards.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
A week nine, Romanduze secured the second one hundred yard
receiving outing of his career time for the fourth most
by any Bears pass catcher. In his rookie season, Rome
fifty one receptions, seven to one, three touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
There's a trio for you. You just saw one of
the best tools in the game. Question.
Speaker 5 (30:05):
Yeah, now, this might be one of the best trios
in a game. They have their work cutoff for them.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Yeah, they can all play. They're all I think figuring
other than Keenan Allen dj More. Obviously, Rome is kind
of figuring out in the league. I think he's gonna
be really good. I got to watch them a little
bit on hard knocks in the preseason. Obviously, the season
has gone the way they would hope for. But Rome
was kind of coming along seven in a solid season,
and then with Keenan and just OG's like that, you
just never know they got They got all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
They'll route you up.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
So Seahawks DB's again are gonna have their hands full.
And you know, after what you faced last week, I
feel like you should be ready for that challenge. So
we'll see what happens there and we'll finish here with
JSN DK Metcalf taking on this bear secondary. We talked
about Jackson. We've been talking about Jackson for the last
two months because he's been bawing out last game nine receptions,
ninety five yards, a touchdown, leading the Seahawks and all
(30:53):
receiver category receptions, yards, receiving touchdowns, over one thousand yards,
fift in the NFL, and receiving yards six and receptions.
He's that dude, and he's performing like.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
It every week.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
Then you have DK Metcalf obviously really good to see
him get involved again last week he had that big
touchdown and again when he's in the game and he's
making plays over the top, the Seahawks offense is at
their best. And honestly, his production has been down since
he hurt his knee. That was that Falcons game, and
he still has sixty receptions, eight hundred and ninety seven yards,
four touchdowns with two games.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Again, come on, get your thousand dollars, need it? Come on.
I would love for him to get it this on Thursday,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Because I feel like people are now looking at the
seventeen game season a certain type of way when it
comes to all the records beforehand. So it's like anything
you can do in sixteen games kind of makes you
feel like it's an extra little notch, you know what
I mean?
Speaker 5 (31:40):
Now the US to play fourteen games back in the day, Yeah,
you know.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
And then it eventually go over there. But I think
when people are it's still somewhat fresh. He's only been
a couple of years. So hope DK ball's out. The
Bears defense twenty third against the pass game of two
twenty five per game. I think this is a matchup
where the Seahawks should have the advantage and should be
able to go over the top.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
So hopefully the Seahawks can do that.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
On Thursday, we are broadcasting live from the seas Podcast
Studio presented by Sony, the official partner of the Seattle
Seahawks in this NFL season, Feel every play, every hit,
every moment. When the Sony one thousand XM five noise

(32:21):
on the go. You'll never miss a beat with Sony headphones.
Bump gotta have it. Thursday night football Path to victory.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
At the forty five waits for the staff, Michael Vickton
puts it down.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
That kick is away.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
If that kick is gone, good say awk whin fifth gun.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
It's a path to victory on Hawk Talk.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
All right, We've said this before. We'll say it again.
Speaker 5 (32:48):
It's must win, okay, Yeah, the must win game the Seahawks, man,
you gotta handle this. You still have to handle business
and you need some home, so you have to get
it done this Thursday. You gotta beat the bears in
the Ram have to lose. We said this plenty of
times on this podcast already. We will say it again.
Must win. All right, do your part and then pray
to the football guns, go get it.
Speaker 4 (33:10):
And for everyone else who is deep into the playoff scenarios,
we're calling it and must win, but there are people
telling me scenario will the Rams lose both and then
you lose this one, but then you can still get
them on Make.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
It simple, Yeah, take care business.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Yeah, Cardinals, help your boy out and we'll figure out
what happens. But it doesn't matter. None of that really
is irrelevant unless you win on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
So get that done.
Speaker 4 (33:30):
So control what you can control, and for me, bump
that's defensively. Come out and jump on right away. Let's
not give up a long touchdown drive to start the games.
Happened three weeks in a row. I think they need
to jump on the Bears early and get on top
of him.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Take the ball away.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
Caleb's gone what three hundred and twenty six pass attenps
without an interception. That's pretty good for the young man.
We got to give him that Jared Goff treatment. Like
you mentioned that Josh Allen treatment. All you haven't done
that before. Okay, let's let's introduce you to it. Remind
you what it's all about. Keep everything in front. We
talked about how dangerous their receivers are. One of the
best trios in the game when it's all said and done,
(34:05):
So just be a fish and take the rock. Be
sticky on the back end when it comes to coverage
and you got a chance. Yeah, keep them in front
of you, man, keep them in front of you, deeper
than the deepest.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
Always state, keep them in front because they will get
behind you. So definitely do that and then take care
of the ball.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Man.
Speaker 4 (34:20):
We you know, obviously all these keys of the game,
and you can say that every single week, but you
see how much it just kills you when you turn
the football over, especially against a team like that where
you have the upper hand.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Take care of the ball, and let's let's run it, Bump,
please run the rock, baby, come on. Now.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
I know that Charbonne was a little injured, and gosh,
I'm hoping Canine's okay. That was kind of a gruesome
looking when he got tackled and twisted back, So hopefully
he's back. Hopefully Sharbonney is also a little bit more
healed up. But if they aren't, man, I kind of
like what I saw from Kenny Mack.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
And Kenny back got a little burst to right, so burst,
let's get it done.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
Bump. Let's come on, man, he's got to find a
way next in the season, find a way they last
nine in the ro Bump, make it. Let's make it ten,
make it to need to make it ten.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
I mean again, I just really hope we go into
Week eight team still having a chance, because this team
has done too many good things this year and we
know it goes. You just need to get in anybody's
got a shot, and hey, wone, get at.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Any given Sunday roll from the Seahawks and get that done.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
Reminder, you can hear us ever you are, YouTube, Seahawks
dot Com, Apple podcast, Spotify, series x M, and more.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
He's Michael Bumpus. I'm NASA Trope.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
We hopefully we'll be talking to you next week about
a Seahawk victory and how the Seahawks can win the
NFC West title. Keep up alive until next time. This
has been Hawk Talk
