Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is the Jaguars Broadcast Week in Review podcasts presented
by ever Bank.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
I'm J. P.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Shadrick with the best of the week from Jaguars Radio,
Jaguars dot Com, and Jaguars YouTube. The Jaguars host the
Kansas City Chiefs in week two, but first look back
to last week's went Over the Colts with Pete Briscoe
and Tony Vasselli on Jaguars Happy Hour Radio Monday afternoon.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
A couple of runs I didn't like when they were called.
I thought they went too horizontal at times. The fourth
and one, the quick throwover to to Ingram.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Ok, I'm gonna, I'm gonna okay, First of all, needs
to start the third and three where Trevor quarterback sneaked.
I did not.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Understand that that I didn't like.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Now, he might have done that himself.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
He might have audible looked like he did on the
goal line against the Chargers.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
That's right, that's right, he could have done himself.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
If you go back to because this is the second
person who's complained.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
About the the uh quick screen to Evan Ingram on
the fourth and one. If Brent Strange makes that block.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Well, but he didn't. I know, but Pete, it's set
up you. You have out leveraged the defense.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
It's a one on one block and it's not only
a first down.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
He might be, but there's two there's two guys there.
It was weird the way they did it too. He
had one and the other guy had another. Yes, he
did it were too.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
Strange if brent Strange makes that block, and Brenton Strange
is one of their best blockers. He missed to get
easy first it's an easy first down.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
He missed his block, but there were two guys out
there blocking and.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
They did it.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
It was strange the way they did it. He came
if you look at it, he came off as yes,
he was okay. So you like the play call. It
wasn't awful. I just think there was a lot of
stuff to the side. Here's the other thing that bothered
me about the offense. There was too much riddle and
you're gonna you guys probably will sit there and say, well,
what are you talking about. There were times in that

(01:57):
game where I think Aren's got locked on Ridley when
he had Kirk, And I'll give you an example. There
was a sideline throw to the left side Kirk had
come off, he'd run a pivot route and came back inside.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
And I agree with you.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
I think I think there was I think Trevor, from
me watching the game locked in, I actually agree at
that point. That's the first good point you've made.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
This ententire no good. Every point is good. The sacks
point was good, The disjointed play.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Calling was good. This is fantastic.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
And here's the other thing Trevor didn't do. And you
know how I feel about him. I think the guy's
gonna win the MVP. And he made some incredible throws.
The throw he made going to his left throw and
a back across his body was incredible.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
The one to say in the end zone was fantastic.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Here's what he didn't do, though, and I don't know why,
because this is something he started doing at the end.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
He didn't get to the backside. And there were.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Times and Tony, you probably remember some of these plays
where he had Ingram once in the middle that would
have been a big play if he comes to the
backside he had I think even it might have even
been Ridley on the backside. Comes to the backside, he
was two front side dominant, and he needs to get
because it wasn't early in the game. There were time
there was time when he could stand there and make
that decision to go back to the backside.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
So and and the Ridley stuff.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
There was another example where he had Kirk open and
he went to Ridley or somebody else.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
He went to force it to Ridley.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
So Ridley dominant isn't a bad thing, but you gotta
be smart about it. You gotta if he's got two
guys on him, you got to get to the open guy.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
My complain about the offense Pete and JP was it
never felt like they're in a rhythm. And I think
part of that is because they never got the run
game going. I mean, they got what they get a whole,
a total of one hundred yards and that's with you know,
Travis et and getting the twenty six or at twenty
six yard or.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
At the end one hundred and five total yards rushing.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Well, they couldn't block ninety and ninety nine.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Well, I thought, I thought the interior of that of
the Jags offensive line struggled with those two guys.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Jaguars Happy Our Radio Monday airs four to six pm
on ten TOINEXSLAM Jaguars dot Com and Jaguars YouTube a
big part of last week's when catches from Zay Jones,
one for a touchdown and another a fourth and two
conversion to keep the go ahead touchdown drive alive. Jones
talked Monday about his reliability.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
I kind of classify it as just doing my job.
You know, That's that's why I'm here, That's what I'm
supposed to do. Christian Kirk said the other day. He
was like, you know, we really have to appreciate these
third down moments as we were alluding to earlier and
how important they are, Like we should want those moments.
And then coach Chad talked about how pressure is a
privileged to be in those moments and to not shy

(04:41):
away from it. So I think just having revering that
moment and revering kind of like that mindset for us
of understanding, Okay, this is why.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
We are here. We have enough to do it here.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
So let's get the job done. So I don't think
it's more so pride as it is, like, you know,
I just respect and honor kind of my job and
why I'm here.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
Zay would you're on the sidelines about take the field
and you see return like Jamal hyd yesterday, what's that
really do for the energy?

Speaker 5 (05:13):
It's electric, It's it means so much as an offense
to start, you know, with only half the field. It's
it does a lot for just your momentum. I know
for our coaches too. Okay, now we can look at
we don't have to go eighty seventy yards. Let's let's
look at our game plan from right here. Okay, where's

(05:35):
our field goal range? Where do we just have to
get to secure a field goal with with the great
kicker that we have. So I think that we need
to appreciate what Jamal Agneu has done for this for
this football team over these over these years. And he's
a special talent and it really just you know, boost
everyone to reinvigorates us to just get excited and have

(05:58):
an opportunity to score.

Speaker 7 (05:59):
We realize press his call and plays compared to done.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
And I'd be lying if I said, yeah, I'm just
more so what's the next call? Maybe as time goes
on a little bit more, But no, I don't think so.
I think I think they both have done a great job.

Speaker 8 (06:20):
Y'all score thirty one points and it seems like everybody
feels like y'all didn't play maybe the best game you could.
I mean, does that just kind of say to I
guess the feeling you guys have about what this offense
can do when it when it's clicking on all cylinders.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
Yeah, I think we just hold ourselves to a high standard.
We're not really on like the happy to be here train.
I think we're more so we have unfinished you know,
business to do and we know we can do it.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:48):
I just I just think that we're still just very
hungry and things weren't as clean as we would want
them to be. I mean, I made plenty of mistakes
still in that game, guys made mistakes, and so I
think our mindset is just like, let's clean up the
mistakes and go play a full game as an offense,
you know, a complete from first quarter to fourth quarter.

(07:11):
And yeah, I just I think that's where we're at
right now. Hopefully I can speak for the guys and
no one's like, oh no, it's not true, but you
know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
On the defensive side, Josh Allen put together a career
high three sacks with ten total tackles against the Colts,
and he was asked Monday. If he had found the
consistency he's looking.

Speaker 9 (07:30):
For, we're gonna see it next week and then following
week after that. I think it was a good start
of the year watching the tables. Things that are I
know I can get better on, but I think it
was just the relentlessness and the things that you can't coach.
I showed that. I showed that a lot yesterday. And
you don't want to build on that and continue to go.

Speaker 8 (07:49):
The defense as a whole coming up with some crucial
fourth down stops. How big is that for you guys
as a unit.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
I mean it's huge.

Speaker 9 (07:56):
You know, we want to be the team, the defense
that we know we can become. We have to make
plays like that and uh and big moments and we've
been in we were in a lot of big moments
this week, and uh we capitalized. So we got to
continue to go, continue to communicate well, continue to be
in the right spot when time need to, and continue
to make those plays.

Speaker 8 (08:14):
Yet, Pat mahomes coming this week, third time you guys
play him in a year, but this time it's in Jacksonville.
How much does that location make a difference at all?

Speaker 9 (08:23):
I mean, it doesn't make a doesn't really make a
big difference. I know he's he's Patrick Mahones, and you know,
if Kelsey players are not, they're a heck of a team.
So you know, we're gonna have to be real discipline
on our eyes this week, and we're gonna have to
keep him in the pocket as well. You know, he's
another guy that can scramble. He's a little wiggly, uh
so he can run left, run right, back, it up,

(08:45):
go forward. So uh just to be able to stay
relentless and continue to grow on that. But you know,
this is a this is a game that we must win,
playoff game for us. We may see this team later
down the road, so we want to get in early
and uh just can't. And we also can't lose a
home And we know our fans are gonna show out

(09:07):
and be out there even though it's gonna be really hot.
We know they're gonna cheer and support us. So we're
really excited for that and ready to go.

Speaker 8 (09:13):
You reflect on that last game against the Chiefs at
all before this one.

Speaker 9 (09:17):
I mean personally, it's a little personal for me, man,
because the last two times I played them last year,
I wasn't at my best, and uh so for me,
you know, it's it's personal. But at the end of
the day, I got a job to do and for
me to be where I need to be, I also
need to know what I'm doing out there. So just
the film, study, the preparation takes full in. So if

(09:38):
I continue to do that, continue to practice well, then
everything else is gonna take care of yourself. And that's
what I'm you know, want to be more consistent on
all the.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
Press conferences from the week available at Jaguars dot com.
On the ozone podcast this week, senior writer John Osier
visited with second year outside linebacker Trayvon Walker.

Speaker 7 (09:57):
It's been such a remarkable growth in the last twelve games,
you know, nine wins dating back to last season, the
only losses to Kansas City and Detroit, which you are hot,
good teams, is teams elevated? Anything to put on your finger,
why or is it just what you said? You're learning
how to do it and it takes some time.

Speaker 10 (10:16):
It was definitely simple factor. Yes, obviously us learning how
to win, but also last year it was coaches first
year and a lot of players first year playing together
and obviously coming in the year two a lot of
us have played together or been coached. We have that
chemistry amongst each other now to what, we all on
the same page and we're not out there out there

(10:37):
just running around trying to make plays.

Speaker 7 (10:39):
Got you one question about sort of what you faced
over your career. I'm curious about do you feel any
more or any different going into year two about the
whole pressure of the number one pick. It didn't seem
like you focused on that a whole lot anyway, But
is that sort of something that you deal with or

(11:01):
handle differently now than before?

Speaker 10 (11:03):
I say, way, did I just kind of like deal
with that situation? Is just continue to know why the
Jags brought me here. They brought me here to affect
the quarterback, get to the quarterback, get sacks or whatever.
We Obviously I'm in competition with you know what I'm saying,
all the edge rushers in the league. But first and foremost,
I'm in competition with myself.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
So I got you.

Speaker 10 (11:24):
I hold myself to a way high standard than anybody
would ever hold me to. I know when I need
to do better at this, which pass rushing. So I
just take full accountability, full accountability on things like that.

Speaker 7 (11:38):
How do you and Josh handle the whole like all
off season, pass rush, pass rush, past ruts. It's all
you heard on Twitter about the Jags. What do you
guys talk about? Do you ever talk about that or
is it more just hey, we can be the guys.

Speaker 10 (11:52):
Yeah, it's never It was never about what people said
on social media or whatever. It was just all amongst us,
like things that we will always tell each other, like
we always just down on each other, Like just not
that youure him, No, that you're that guy, like you're
very capable of having fifteen twenty plus acts. Note, like
we're great athletes and it's not. It's not a lot

(12:13):
of guys with our body type, strength, speed, right that
can kind of merit the things together. It's just we
have to tell our sales. It's a lot of self
talk within it. You just have to tell our sales
that we are the best, We are him and we
can't be stopped.

(13:49):
the Chiefs, the team that beat the Jaguars twice last year,
including the AFC Divisional playoff game. Both of those games
were at Arrowhead. This time it's at the Bank. Quarterback
Trevor Lawrence was asked in his Wednesday press conference if
playing them twice last year helps the preparation.

Speaker 12 (14:05):
Yeah, I mean, I think you get definitely, you get
more of a feel playing them twice in one season
of what they what they do really well. You know
what they want to do defensively, and I'm sure vice
versa offensively for our defense. But of course you get
more of a feel the more you play someone. And
we've had the opportunity to play them twice so now
going on a third time. But again, some of the
guys have changed. Obviously, they get Chris back this week.

(14:27):
He'll be up front. He's always going to be a
big part of the play. You gotta know where he's at.
He's a great player. And they got a lot of
other guys too on the d line that are playing
really well, and their secondary is playing great. I think
obviously Spags has a great scheme for those guys, does
a great job in the back end. And they can play.
So there's a lot of challenges that they present and
we kind of know what they like to do, what
they want to do, but they also do a really

(14:48):
good job of mixing it up and keeping you on
your toes. So and it's all, like I said last week,
it's kind of tough. First couple games this season. You're
still trying to get a feel for and and teams
are trying to get a feel for what they're good
at too. Obviously you kind of go off what what
you've done in the past and what you've seen. You
kind of got to go with that.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
How much did you watch when you went back and
watched all the tape from last year, how much did you.

Speaker 13 (15:08):
Watch those two meetings, those two games in particular, prepared
to other games a.

Speaker 12 (15:13):
Few times, especially you know in Nausta, especially the last
one in the playoffs. Obviously watched that game a lot,
just stuff to learn from all over the board really,
and then I think maybe not as much the first game,
having that most recent game against some kind of watch
watch that more, but watch the other the first game
a couple of times as well. So I've seen those
games plenty of times. And then now watching them again.

(15:34):
That's where we're preparing to play them again. So, yeah,
you watch all that tape and try to take something.

Speaker 7 (15:39):
From it, at least what's the biggest thing you've taken
away and watching him recently, is there something you looked at.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
And you were really proud of what you guys did,
Maybe something you regret not doing.

Speaker 12 (15:48):
Yeah, I don't think I think you're ever necessarily, don't
ever really feel great about not winning, because we're at
the point where we feel like, no matter who we play,
we should win and that's the expectation and it's a
great thing to be at that point. So there's not
that feeling of necessarily, you know, kind of made a
tight game. There's not any of that feeling. But I
think just looking at how close we were to some

(16:09):
opportunities that we missed, you know, whether it's a misthrow,
a drop, a turnover, like just things throughout each game
that really when you're playing. I think the thing that
sticks out is when you're playing a team like the
Chiefs that is that good that's been there before, that
executes in critical moments, and especially with Patrick on the
other side in that offense, you got to take advantage.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Of your opportunity.

Speaker 12 (16:30):
So there's that, there's you know that, and I think
we have learned that the hard way now, and you
got to take advantage of the opportunities when you have them.
You got to make the plays, You got to be
great in critical situations. And I think those are all
things that we've gotten better at. But we just got
to keep keep getting better because that's what they're gonna
do on the other side. So you know who you're playing,
and you really got to execute.

Speaker 8 (16:47):
The last meetings were in case c doesn't make a
difference that this one's here in Jacksonville.

Speaker 12 (16:52):
Yeah, Yeah, it's gonna be awesome. It's gonna be awesome
home opener here. A lot of energy obviously this offseason
about you know, about us, about our team, about the season,
and it's going to be exciting to see the bank
fill it up and just encourage all the fans to
come out and be loud. I mean, use let's use
our home field advantage that we had that we saw
kind of at the end of the season last year,
because that was incredible. Makes it harder for teams to

(17:13):
come in here and play. And obviously Kansas City has
a great home field advantage when you play there, and
you know, want to be the same way here and
our fans have done a great job, so I'm excited
for that.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
The ful Trevor Lawrence press conference on Jaguars dot Com.
Let's move now to the Chiefs perspective. Neil Jones of
KSETV five in Kansas City joined Jags Am this week
and visited with Kyle Stevens, Brian Sexton, and John Osier
discussing the struggles for the Chiefs offense last Thursday night.

Speaker 6 (17:39):
Yeah, you know, that's exactly what I took away from
that game and what surprised me so much. People don't
realize how good of a game planner Andy Reid really is.
I mean, we've seen him succeed with just a number
of different quarterbacks with different skill sets, and you know
that he's really good, but you don't realize how great
he is until he was given an instrument like Patrick
Mahomes who can execute his offense, who's also very smart

(18:03):
and a hard worker so that he can recognize things
and to see them kind of steymied was surprising, But
it was not just not having Kelsey that was the
biggest But there were. He's got young receivers who were
playing their first game. You know, their second round draft
pick for Shee Rice, number four, who's an excellent player
out of SMU is lost a little bit. Kadarius Tony

(18:27):
was getting open. He does know the offense and he's
worked very hard when he first came in from the
Giants last.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Year, so he knew where to be.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
The problem was when they threw it to him, he
dropped the football. They had eighteen incompletions, which is a
large number for Patrick Mahomes, but ten of them are
deemed to be drops by the official stats to compiled
by the NFL.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Ten drops.

Speaker 6 (18:48):
So they were executing the offense, getting the football people's hands,
they weren't catching it.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
And what he does, what.

Speaker 6 (18:55):
Patrick Mahomes does, he puts the ball up and gives
his receiver.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
A chance to make play.

Speaker 6 (19:00):
Sometimes that can make him look bad if the receiver
turns the wrong way or doesn't win his battle for
the ball, doesn't go up and win it at the
high point, because it looks like he's just laying it
out there. That's what happened in the AFC Championship Game
two years ago in overtime against the Bengals and it
got a beat. He tried to get it to Tyreek
Hill and give him a chance to make a play,

(19:20):
and Hill wasn't able to make it. It looks like
he was throwing at double coverage, so it did look
very uncharacteristic. But I will say this, the last time
did we saw this Chiefs team playing without their all
world tight end Travis Kelcey was against the Titans in
the playoffs the last half of the Alex Smith era.

(19:41):
Their offense went completely stagnant in the second half. Without
the tight end, he changes everything. Defensive coaches will say,
you have to account for him. Used to be you
had to account for him and over the middle and
for Tyreek Hill deep. Now without Hill, you have to
account for him. And without him in there, I have
a bunch of underneath coverage. It changed the way people

(20:03):
played defense against them, and it made them vulnerable.

Speaker 7 (20:07):
Neil, This is obviously a huge game for Jacksonville, It's
a big game for Kansas City. But I'm wondering if
you get any vibe for how the Chiefs sort of
feel about this game. I get the Jaguars had never
beaten them. They were nine to eight last year, etc.
Do the Chiefs care about this game in any way
the way the Jags do, or put that in perspective
for me, what they're thinking of this.

Speaker 6 (20:28):
Well, you know, that's the great thing about last year.
They played two games against the Jags. Game one, the
Jags secondary was more physical than any other secondary that
the Chiefs saw. They blasted them. It looked to me
like they made a concerted effort. We are going to
hit them early and often and just we're gonna go
right up to the rules and maybe a little bit
over the line a little bit, and we're gonna really

(20:49):
put it on them.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
That got their attention.

Speaker 6 (20:51):
I thought the Jags were much better that first game
than we expected.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
And then the.

Speaker 6 (20:55):
Playoff game is a seven point game. I mean, they
come into this saying all the right things, but more
than that, I think that they believe.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
This Jags team's a good team.

Speaker 6 (21:04):
It is an ascending team that's coached by a guy
who Andy Reid loves, Doug Peterson. He talked about it
yesterday at the press conference. He goes, I've been with
him a long time, a lot of years.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
I respect him.

Speaker 6 (21:17):
That carries over to the football team. This is a
smart football team as well as being a talented football team.
And I think they know how good the Jags can be.
I don't think there's any way they overlook Jacksonville.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
Jags am available Monday, Wednesday and Thursday on Jaguars dot Com.
Let's move to a couple of conversations to come this weekend.
CBS Sports Played by Play announcer Iron Eagle sat down
with me earlier this week to discuss this matchup and
the idea of this Jaguars team being together for only
a short time to come.

Speaker 13 (21:45):
Yeah, you're talking about the reality of doing business in
the NFL, because that part of it plays such an
important role. Fans get caught up in who's on their
team and rooting for their squad, and that's how it
should be. But the business side of this is a
very important piece to the equation, keeping your guys together,

(22:06):
maintaining your roster and trying to playkate and keep everybody
happy because there are human emotions that come into play here.
What you're getting paid, what you're playing time, Are you
getting a chance to show your skill level so that
if it's not the team that you're going to re
sign with, it's somebody else in the NFL that's watching

(22:28):
your tape. But if you're not actually getting the playing time,
then you can't showcase your skills. So think about that.
Multiply it now by thirty two because every team deals
with it and that's part of being a GM and
an owner in the NFL. So you make a great point.
Jacksonville is set up this year to do some special things,

(22:51):
and now it's got to translate to the field. The
first really good sign of the season was the defensive
pressure that they showed in Week one. Anyone that watched
the Jaguars last year recognized they had to get better
in that department. They had to get to the quarterback,
they had to throw the timing off of the quarterback.

(23:12):
And now you're dealing with one of the best to
ever do it in Patrick Mahomes. So the challenge is
out there. Can you do it again against a parental
perennial MVP candidate?

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Yeah, and that changes the whole dynamic. It's one thing
against a rookie quarterback, but then you've got a guy who,
if he keeps on this space, he might already be
in Canton with two Super Bowls. But you never know.
That he's gonna be one of the all time greats,
and the way he escapes and does things the defenses.
You know, that's a huge question obviously this week. How

(23:44):
different are the Chiefs if Kelsey can't go, How different
of an offense are they doesn't feel like they're as
explosive of it as they were a couple of years ago.

Speaker 13 (23:52):
Yeah, they definitely don't have the game breakers that they've
had in the past. Of Course, tyreek Hill, even McCole Hardman,
he had some eyes that could wreck a game. And
you just don't get that same mistique around the Chiefs
offense that they once had. Now, I would tell you
their running game is probably a little more effective because

(24:13):
Pacheco is a punishing runner and if you get a lead,
which Patrick Mahomes is certainly capable of doing for the Chiefs,
they can milk clock. They can wear you down with
his physical running style, angry style. So it might be

(24:34):
a little bit more of that compared to what we
saw in previous years with the Chiefs. Here's the thing
with Andy Reid, He's a problem solver on offense. He's
going to figure some things out. We recognize that he's
very creative and if you give him enough time, he
will sort through the issue. So the idea that anyone's
figured out the Chiefs now after Week one against Detroit,

(24:57):
I don't buy into it. They have been able to
reinvent themselves a number of times. Even in their two
Super Bowl wins, it wasn't done in the same exact fashion.
So this is a Kansas City team that usually figures
it out when the smoke clears.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Also a sneak preview of my weekly conversation with prior
to the Jaguars running back Fred Taylor, and we talked
through the strategy needed on both sides of the ball
to beat the Chiefs.

Speaker 14 (25:23):
Yeah, this game has to be very strategic. We know
what the Chiefs offense can do. You know, we know
what you know Patty Mahomes, what he's built, you know
what he's made from. He's unreal, unbelievable. He can get
it done at the drop of a dime. A week
ago they didn't have. You know, they're his favorite target
and Travis Kelsey, so we're gonna have to deal with that.

(25:45):
From a defensive standpoint, the Chiefs are going to have
to find a way to contain Kelvin Ridley, But that's
what they're going to do. You know, they're going to
try to take him away first and with that, it's
going to create opportunities for other guys. Last week, to
start from last season, Christian Kirk, well, he played a lot.
He got his usual run, but you know he didn't

(26:06):
get those those catches we had seen him getting, you know,
last year. But they're gonna come. We all know they're
gonna come. Coach Peterson, Trevor, they're great atu spreading that
ball around, so they're gonna come. And this week is
a perfect time for him to step up and play big.
I remember a year ago he had some nice cross
the routes. He had a deep ball down the sideline,
and he's a playmaker and I think he's gonna be

(26:28):
the key to victory when they try to take away
Calvin this uh in this matchup, I believe those other
guys are certainly gonna have to step up in that
run game. That run game is gonna have to do
his thing. Because Chris Jones returned for the Chiefs, you know,
he's absolutely gonna be excited for his first game of
a year. We had some injuries there against the Coats

(26:51):
and when Sheriff went out, it seems that that's when
the coach defense started to penetrate and create some havoc.
So we're gonna have to play solid across the or
with those guys up front for Ted Trevor. Hopefully he
has enough time to get the bag down Phil in
the run game, it's gonna be as big as they
need to be to be able to keep that Chiefs

(27:12):
offense on the sideline a bit and slowed him down.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
Both exclusive extended interviews will run Saturday on the Official
Jaguars podcast Network. Let's close with the Doug Peterson Show
Thursday night, the Jags head coach looking ahead to the Chiefs.

Speaker 15 (27:27):
It's a good football team all around, and you know
it's gonna take a really good effort on our part.
I guess the thing that's going for us too is
we have familiarity with him. Haven't played him twice last year,
and it felt like we had opportunity in both games,
particularly the playoff game, to to you know, do some things,
but you know, you just can't make mistakes in order
to beat teams like this.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
Well, and a great thing is is that you get
him at home, and I'm sure that this place is
going to be absolutely rocking on Sunday.

Speaker 15 (27:54):
That's that's the best part, right and hopefully a little
bit warm, you know, for the guys coming in here.
But yeah, we're excited. Should be a great electric crowd
looking forward to that. We you know, obviously feeding off
the last two football games a year ago, playoff type atmospheres,
and and that's kind of what we expect and and
we hope that's the way and that's the case, and
and uh, we're really looking forward to to this matchup,

(28:16):
you know, Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
You know, we did a show with Bucky Brooks. You
might have heard of him the other day, and he
talked about competitive stamina, and that's what this Chiefs team
seems to have. Late in games. They get better, you
talked about it this week. They get better as it
goes along, but in those big moments late in the
fourth quarter, they can elevate their game. How can you
take the Jaguars team to match that this week?

Speaker 15 (28:39):
It's a big phrase for Bucky, But you know, that's
that's where we're trying to get to. We're we're trying
to get to to that level. I think our team
is really uh, we've learned it, you know, but now
we've got to we've got to prove it week in
and week out, and especially in games like this. This
is this is only week two, but this could potentially

(28:59):
have implications for January, right when when you're talking postseason. So, yes,
they know how to elevate as the game game goes on,
they can elevate their play. Chris Jones seems to get
a little bit warmer as the game goes on, and
he can if he needs a sack, guess what, He's
gonna go get a sack. And if Patrick Mahomes needs

(29:20):
to make a play, he's gonna make a play. So
that's what we're trying to do. I think our guys
are headed in that direction and that sustainability.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Right.

Speaker 15 (29:28):
We've learned how to win, We've learned how to overcome
some adversity to win, and those are all things in
our favor right now.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
