Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is the Jaguars Broadcast Week Interview podcast presented by
ever Bank. I'm JP Shadrick with the best of the
week from Jaguars Radio, Jaguars dot Com, and Jaguars YouTube.
The Jaguars host the Tennessee Titans in Week eleven. The
game is delivered by CSX How Tomorrow Moves. But first,
a flashback to last week's blowout loss to the forty
nine ers and the day after reaction from Tony Boselli

(00:27):
and Pete Prisco on Jaguars Happy Hour Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
And that's what happened. They got blown out, they got dominated,
and you know what the good news is, So everything's
correctable there, you don't think.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
So what are you saying that for? Pete?

Speaker 4 (00:48):
I'm worried. I'm worried about the offensive offense in a
big way. I'm worried.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
So be more specific because.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
Okay, g're ried about the passing game.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, I think you and I might agree on some
of the concerns, but go ahead, I want to hear
you first.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Okay, after watching the tape this morning, the receivers didn't
win at all, almost never never.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Pete stopped there? Did did it almost feel like because
I watched it too. It almost felt like at times
we were running to where the defenders were and just stopping.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
And when they were locked up in the man coverage,
they physically beat them up. They got their hands on them.
They got called a couple times, but I think that
was the game plan. I sent you guys that pictured
that screenshot of the second play of the game, and
Toty you had mentioned this earlier. Who scared? Were they
scared of anybody? They didn't. They had e nine guys
at the line of scrimmage and Manda Man on the outside.
They weren't scared of anybody.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Pete several times in that game. And this will go
to the passing game that you talked about. If you
froze the the formation right before the snap, a couple
of times they had eleven guys within eleven yards of
the aligne of scrimmage.

Speaker 5 (02:00):
Like there was nobody deep.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
Well, don't you remember the comment from last week? It
came after we were on the air last Monday, but
Bosa made some comment and I don't know if you
guys saw it where Shanahan told them in a team
meeting about make him play quarterback. Do you remember that yes, yes,
well that's exactly the way they played defense.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Well what they did beat because and you and I've
talked about this several times in the show, because we're
pretty horizontal offense, a lot of bubble.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
Screens mainly almost strictly horizontal, and a lot of you know,
underneath crossers, you know, stick routes, you know ten yard
come back.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
I mean, everything's like a lot of our offense is
within ten yards of the line of scrimmage in the
passing game, and then you get some run after catch
and everything else.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
We don't.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
We have not pushed the ball down the field at
least that you know from my perspective and what it
feels like watching us play this year. On offense, you
watched that forty nine defense, they did exactly what Shanahan
and Boso said they were gonna do. We're gonna take
away the first read and we're gonna jump everything underneath.
Like their linebackers and safeties were jumping everything everything the

(03:18):
I mean etn in the flat. They were jumping ingram
over that little middle crossing. They were jumping every stick route.
They didn't move their feet, no, they didn't open their
hips at all. They were just coming downhill, and it
was almost like they're saying, listen, if you're gonna beat us,
you're gonna have to go down the field to beat us.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Jaguars Happy Our Radio Monday airs four to six pm
on ten to nexts Lam and Jaguars YouTube. Quarterback Trevor
Lawrence is looking for a better outing against the Titans
this week. Plenty to discuss during his Wednesday press conference.

Speaker 6 (03:52):
We talk about it on Mondays after games, and we
talk about the things that we need to do better
in the areas where we got to improve on, and
part of that it is being more explosive, creating more
big plays, eliminating the negative plays, eliminating turnovers, all those things.
You know, I think, but we all, we all feel
that sense of urgency as well, because we all want

(04:13):
to we all want to play great, you know, we
want to be successful. We want to show the type
of offense and the type of players that we have,
and I feel like we really haven't this season, you know,
minus a game or two or a series or two.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Here and there.

Speaker 6 (04:24):
You know, I think we all have that confidence in
in who we can be, but we haven't done it yet.
So we can't say that that's necessarily who we are
yet because we haven't done it. So I think that
we feel that urgency and we know, we know what
we're capable of, but you know, we gotta we got
to figure out how to transfer all that and translate
it to Sunday. And you know, I got all the confidence.

(04:44):
I'm not I'm not concerned about us not doing that,
but we do need to do it. You know, we
need to play better offensively. We need to we need
to take over games. We need to not just rely
on our defense to make the plays. We got to
start taking over some of these games and putting teams
away and on all those things that we've talked about,
you know, from weeks pri but continuing to be an emphasis.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Jar me doing and has that one that's ensue at all.
I know of the injury having like a month ago, but.

Speaker 6 (05:09):
It's it's feeling better. It's it's finally I feel like,
you know, finally getting to where not gonna really think
about it as much and it won't be as much
of an issue. I feel like I'm starting to move
pretty fluid and it's not bothering me when I do much.
You know, obviously it's still a little bit here and there,
it'll get a little aggravated, but I'm really it's a
good question. I mean, I'm starting to feel comfortable and
I'm happy about that the progress I've made and we've

(05:31):
been able to, you know, protect it the last few weeks,
and I'm excited to you know, hopefully finally kind of
get going and just just play play normal, move around
all that stuff.

Speaker 7 (05:39):
Are you ready to take the brace off?

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Not yet.

Speaker 6 (05:43):
You'll see it again this week, so it's kind of
weak to week with that.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Just just being cautious.

Speaker 6 (05:46):
There is that something that's gonna open up the offense
for you guys, just being able to play the way
you like to play or I know you like to
be able to run things of that nature. Yeah, you know,
I think we we've started to kind of do some
of that stuff, and last week we kind of had
plans for that, and then you know, like I said,
after the game, the game and the way it was
going kind of dictated some of that. You know, we
kind of got in some some tough situations. But yeah,

(06:08):
I think that gives me confidence in playing and moving around.
I think that's a big part of this game, no
matter who you are. You gotta be able to move
and it feels good kind of getting back to that
point where I feel like I can so whether that's
you know, on the perimeter, or it's just escaping the pocket,
whatever it is, making plays outside of the pocket off schedule.
I think that's stuff that really a lot of the
good offenses in this league do, and something that we

(06:30):
were doing earlier on in the season and kind of
get back to some of.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
That Doug sort of talked about beneath the players and
coaches used to do a little bit more maybe going
into games.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
You know, are you doing enough? What does that sort
of look like for you? And have you guys as
a team sort of talked about that.

Speaker 6 (06:47):
You know, I think that this group, yeah, I think
we work.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
We work really hard.

Speaker 6 (06:51):
I mean it would be hard to find I think
a team that that practice is harder than we do.
So I think we checked that box. I think there's
something obviously maybe carrying over from practice or something that's
not carrying over from practice to game day.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Maybe it's a little bit of a loss of focus.
I'm not sure.

Speaker 6 (07:08):
Definitely on this Sunday, you know, I think in the
games prior obviously we haven't played perfect, but we've played
we've played clean enough, we found ways to win. But
this Sunday kind of was just a disaster. So we
gotta kind of look at all, right, what did what
did we do? What did we maybe do wrong? Was
was our focus not there? You know, I thought we
had great energy. I thought we were ready to play.
It certainly felt like that throughout the team, So I
don't think it was guys not ready to play, but

(07:30):
maybe there was just you know, a lapse of focus
from collectively, from the whole team on Sunday. So I
think that's something where you know, we just gotta we
gotta focus on the details. You have to carry that
to game day. This is a game, this is a
mental game. It's all details, and you know that's how
you that's how you win. The game is up here,
it's not just about the physical part. So I think

(07:50):
that's something where definitely we need to focus on carrying
that to Sunday and being more detailed and not making
as many mistakes because when you play really good teams,
it's hard to it's hard to find ways to wins.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Conferences and locker room sound available on Jaguars Dot com
on Jags Am Thursday, Kai Stevens, Brian Sexton, and John
Ozer discussed the quarterback play moving forward.

Speaker 8 (08:10):
John, we talked a little bit about, you know, that
throwaway kind of interception at the end of the game.
Not talking about that, but just being smarter, whether it's
throwing the ball away when you're in field goal range,
not taking a sack, or you know when he tried
to fire it off Tank's hands at one point in
the San fran game, And just is that just Trevor
trying to force stuff because he wants to make something happen.

Speaker 9 (08:27):
Yeah, I think there's an element in the ozone podcast
that's quick. Last week I talked to Travis Etn and
he had a fascinating part of it where he talked
about how he had to learn to run in the NFL,
meaning he had to learn that it was okay to
take a four yard run. He said that was really
hard for me, that he couldn't beat everybody to sidelines.

(08:49):
You saw it last year, and it's hard to incorporate
that if you're a running back when you're first figuring
it out. He saw it last year trying to make
every play a touchdown. Well, now he's a much better
running back because he has an NFL mindset. I think
there's a degree of that with Trevor, and and he's
such a talented guy and he's the quarterback believes that
he can make a big play on every play. We

(09:11):
talked about it earlier, the Tank Bigsby interception last week.
No need for the ball to be thrown because it
was not going to be a play.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
That led anywhere.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Even if it.

Speaker 9 (09:27):
So, even if he catches that ball, it's it's a
two or three yard loss. Now Trevor has no way
of knowing how the play is going to eventually go.
But you can lower your risk in a situation, uh
and just dirting the ball much the same way in
the pocket. It felt like Indy when he got hurt
trying to make a play outside, where you just got

(09:48):
to learn to sort of take it. Now, you don't
want to curtail the instincts that this kid has because
he makes special happen. So what we're talking, I'm sitting
here saying it. I don't know if I can do
it in real time situation, but that's what you gotta do,
and that I think is his next process to becoming
elite is figuring out the situational awareness.

Speaker 10 (10:08):
Yeah, you've got to know what's going on around you.
It's the throw in the end zone last year against Houston,
or and this year's PITTSBA this year against Pittsburgh. I'll
give you a better one or one that stands out
more to me. It was against the Bills in London.
They get the ball with etn across midfield right in
their second half and they're looking to hold off the
Bills who were charging, and the ball goes over his head.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
Just fall on it, just recover the ball, live.

Speaker 10 (10:32):
To find another place and he kind of fumbles to
pick it up, and then he runs and someone's wrapped
around him, and then he tries to throw with an
arm up. Don't just go down. Punting is okay, and
that's something he.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Has to learn.

Speaker 1 (10:44):

Tennessee Titans come to town Sunday. Running Back Derek Henry
is a focus always, but the Titans also have rookie
quarterback Will Levis at the controls. Jaguars outside linebacker Josh
Allen knows him pretty well.

Speaker 11 (12:21):
You know, shout out to Will Man. He's a uk
uk grab man, so you know, much respect to him
and you know, hopefully continues to stay healthy. But you know,
when you when you when you look at the game.
The first time he played, he just took this, took
the league back som uh so the talent, the armstrong obviously,

(12:41):
everything that was advertised about him is being shown. So
whatever you all salmass, he is what he that's what
he is. But he's a guy you know that that
has I could take the ball down field. Obviously, good playoffs.
He's a good play actions quarterback. They do a lot
of it. They run the ball a lot, so trying
to get the boots with screens and you know play

(13:03):
actually pass out of that. He's does a good job
managing those. But I'm excited to play against him. You know,
I seen him one time when I came up there.
So she's gonna be a good, good game for us.
I think it's gonna be a good atmosphere too. I
know our fans are gonna come up there to support us.
I know there's gonna be loud. We need it, especially,
you know, when you're dealing with a line that's that

(13:24):
hasn't played together a lot. Just the cadences, the little
sound bites can always can always affect it, especially dealing
with a rookie quarterback as well. So you know, we
have the stands evolved. That's a that's a twelfth man.
You know, they're talking about twelve man. That's a twelve
man for us to be out there as a defense.
So you know, we're expecting us to be a loud
crowd and you know, and win this game.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
You worried about the division race, you look at the
standings or anything like that, and now it's tightened up
over the last week or so.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
I know, if we win this week, we're good. If
we win next week, we're good.

Speaker 11 (13:53):
So not really, I mean, obviously you start looking at
the teams around you know, you have to be consciously
aware of what's going on around you to see what
type of sense of urgency you may have to pick up.
But for us, man, I think that we just do
our job and we take it one game at a time.
We're gonna find ourselves where we need to be. Obviously,

(14:16):
you look at the Texans. Texans are hot right now.
See your child is playing unbelievable ball.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
You know.

Speaker 11 (14:20):
You look at the Titans. Who who can go on
a run? We went on a run at this time
they go on or they can go on to run,
but after us and then when we play them the
game But you know these two, like you never know
is eight games of just foind out out.

Speaker 6 (14:34):
You know.

Speaker 11 (14:35):
I know people said something about eight games. We got
eight games left, so anything can happen. But if we
worry about this week, take care of business, take care
of business next week, we find ourselves where we need
to be.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
More on the Titans identity on huddle up with Bucky
Brooks Wednesday. The Tennessee Titans still take after their head
coach Mike Vrabel.

Speaker 12 (14:54):
And one thing that I would say about this Titans
team is you can never look at their record.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
You can't worry the score. This is a team that
is always going to be well prepared.

Speaker 12 (15:02):
They're always going to bring a high level of physicality
and urgency to the field, and if you're not on
your p's and q's, man, there can be a very
very difficult game, as we saw last year when it
was the winner, go home game in the season finale.
Like that was a team that wasn't very good playing
with a backup quarterback, but yet man, it was a
nail bier, and so this will be one that could
be similar if the Jaguars don't take care of business early.

(15:26):
Coming out of my conversation postgame with Doug Peterson, the
one thing that strug me is he talked about surprised by.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
The team's lack of urgency.

Speaker 12 (15:35):
I think that has probably been emphasized throughout the practice week.
I would expect the Jaguars to have a faster start
because they've discussed being urgent, being able to kind of
hit the ground running from the jump.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
This has to be a game where the Jaguars start fast. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (15:51):
I think this is a Doug's foot in players butt game.
I mean, and he had a similar I have no
idea if he yelled at the team the way he
did against Houston Bucky, but certainly in the post game,
he hit on the theme again of you know, look

(16:12):
these guys telling the players you guys haven't done anything yet.
You know, his team hasn't done anything yet. And I
think that is a big emphasis this week of sort
of resetting and say, hey, five straight wins is great,
but now you're six and three. Six and three if
you don't win again, means six and eleven, and that's
a bad season. The point being just so much more

(16:36):
to do such a he has talked and it's always
interesting to me Bucky so much about the need to
have these guys completely know and buy into having to
play sixty minutes. And I know it's a football cliche,
but when he talks about it, he's talking about the
level of intensity and focus you have to have in
this league to win these close, hard fought games and

(16:59):
frankly on Sunday to play against the best, which they
didn't reach. And I'm with you, I think that's gonna
be a huge theme this week, and I think it's
gonna be SOMETHINGY pounds on until these guys reach that.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (17:13):
Yeah, in these games when you're a really good team,
you have to have what we call competitive stamina. How
long can you compete at a high level. How long
can you sustain your focus in a game against the
top team. Can you go down by down and really
focus on being at your best or does your mind wander?
And it's really really tough when so many players have
a tough time stink on task over the course of

(17:35):
the game. To get your team to not only play
with that urgency, but to play with that level of focus.
The great teams, the championship caliber teams have that high end,
laser like focus that allows you to wear the opponent
down because you're on your game each and every play.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
The Jaguars have to get to that.

Speaker 12 (17:51):
We've seen that in moments doing that five game Winn
Street when things were bleak and bad after the Texans loss,
and you know, they were able to kind of get
it going.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
They I have to get back to that.

Speaker 12 (18:01):
But the thing I would say that it's troubling the
fact that you're having to readdress this after you already
had to slip up early in the year.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Against the Texans.

Speaker 12 (18:09):
Now Here we are five six games later and we're
having to readdress something that you thought that you had
already fixed. So Doug Peterson, you talked about eighty foot
in their hind Parts game.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
He is absolutely on the war path.

Speaker 12 (18:21):
I think we definitely will have an opportunity to see
the best that the Jaguars to have to offer, because
he certainly is going to demand it all week.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
Huddle Up with Bucky Brooks airs Wednesday at four on
Jaguars dot Com and Jags YouTube. And finally this week,
the Friday press conference for Jack's head coach Doug Peterson
and how the team respunded from last week.

Speaker 13 (18:41):
Maybe a little more attentive, a little more focused. I
just think it's because of the way we played, you know,
and you know you're only as good as your last game.
Then they understand that, and that wasn't very good. So
you know, things you don't have to say a lot
as a coach. They just understand, you know that when

(19:02):
you when you play bad, you know you got six
days or so seven days before you go again, so
you got a lot of time to think about.

Speaker 11 (19:09):
You learn a lot.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
About your team and how they respond to those kinds.

Speaker 13 (19:11):
Of games, certainly, certainly, and it's just that how you
respond right good or bad. And you know our history
together has been good. Obviously after games of that nature.
But you know, we got a good, good Tennessee team
coming in here. It's again, it's one of those you
don't worry about records. It's a matter of just execution,

(19:33):
and we've got to execute better.

Speaker 7 (19:35):
Another quarterback goes down last night. Forty six misstarts at
the quarterback position this season. We've got ten rookies already
start games. Fluke or is there? These guys are just
in more harms way than ever before having played the position.

Speaker 13 (19:49):
It's not a fluke. You know, Defensive rushers are getting faster, leaner, quicker.
I also think you're seeing in that offensive line, and
so you're playing you know, sometimes your second, third, or
even fourth guy you know that doesn't have and it's
nothing against them, they just don't have that experience obviously,

(20:12):
And so you know, we know it's a violent sport.
We try to do everything we can by rule number
one and by protection, uh to protect the quarterback. And sometimes,
you know, sometimes they're going to be exposed, obviously, especially
when they're they're runners, or they're they're mobile, you know,

(20:32):
and and can move around, and it's you know, you
don't ever want to see it. Obviously, it can it
can definitely uh, you know, affect your affect your team
moving forward.

Speaker 7 (20:43):
And this this is a we're doing all we can
to keep them safe, like would you like to see
any more? Or this is like a maximum.

Speaker 13 (20:52):
Listen, this is football, and and of course you know
I played and we grew up in a generation where
there was less restrict on quarterbacks, right the hits and
different things. So I think we're maxed on the amount
of rules, you know, on hits on quarterbacks. I think
we can maybe use help, meaning if there's cameras in

(21:16):
stadiums and things replays all that, But that's for another
discussion obviously, but you know, I think there's enough in
place right now.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
You still have to go play the final press conference
of the week available on Jaguars dot com, check out
the official Jaguars podcast network. It's on iHeartRadio, iTunes, Spotify,
or wherever you download your pods. And of course we
love the feedback, so leave us a comment and a
five star rating. We have arrived at week eleven. We're
on the air in Jacksonville Sunday at ten am with
the public Sailgate Show on ten ten XL. Then at

(21:47):
noon it's countdown to kickoff on the Jaguars Radio Network.
The official kickoff time one oh two at EverBank Stadium
in Jacksonville. The Titans Jaguars game is delivered by CSX
how Tomorrow Moves. Thanks for listening, J P. Shadwick. We'll
get you next week on the Jaguars Broadcast. Week Interview
