Speaker 1 (00:00):
Countdown to Kickoff continues the Jaguars and the Cleveland Browns
in Week twelve, and as always on this program, we
visit with pride of the Jaguars running back in Hall
of Fame semifinalist Fred Taylor. Congratulations Fred, thanks boss, I
appreciate you man some more football, enjoyed a great Thanksgiving holiday.

(00:21):
More football here today, looking forward to it. Well, we're
not gonna get to the football yet. We're gonna talk
about you a little bit more. We've got to get
you into that final group, to get you in that
room the day before the super Bowl to be discussed
among the selectors. That's really the next step. This is
a great honor, certainly to be among twenty five. But
at some point you're gonna be in that room, Fred,

(00:41):
and I know you can't wait to be in the conversation. Finally. Yeah,
you know, it's certainly a great honor to be in
the twenty five. I think we started at one thirty
uh sating here in the row, So I mean there
is some something good that's brewing, right Um. I think
the one thing that set out to me to be
a month to twenty five this year is I'm the

(01:03):
only running back on the list, so I don't know
if that gives me an opportunity, a better opportunity, but
the other running backs aren't there, so let's just say, uh,
I am getting closer, but I really really need to
get in that room. Final fifteen and eventually the next

(01:25):
step in the next step, We're just gonna stay praying up,
stay hopeful. We did everything, you know, we did everything
when we played related all out on the field, and
it's up to the selectors and hopefully, um I get
enough yeays, you know, versus the nays, and eventually Ago Jackisonday.
That's gonna be one heck of a party. Let's put
that way. Fred Taylor with us, friend of the Let's

(01:49):
get to the game today. A handful of defensive coaches
are out, including Todd wash COVID nineteen situation for the
Jaguars this week. Kickers out as well because of that
he's on the list, So a lot of changes there.
They weren't on the practice field this week. Some of
those coaches they're doing virtual meetings, so that just changes
the way things operate in the building. That has to
be a big shake up, and considering the attrition on defense,

(02:11):
there's so many new faces, young guys. It's a lot
of change in one week. You know, it is a
lot of change. There's definitely a lot of change. The
hardest party is with the young guy. You know, how
receptive they're gonna be, you know to this virtual of teaching.
You know, in coaching for the veterans, it doesn't change.
You're veteran, You're a sound veteran. You know, it's it's

(02:32):
come to work. Get the game plan as the all
of it, and no matter who's calling the place, I
have a job to do. So the hardest part is
gonna be whether the younger guys that you know, the
rookies and the guys that are you know, they're being
thrown into the fire because of all of them moving around,
through the injuries and these other things. How will they

(02:54):
receive the message and the information? So that would be
the biggest challenge I think when it when it comes
to the communication part is gonna be big at kickoff.
But you know, the coaching style won't change much because
those coaches they're around each other so much, so much
throughout the year or so much throughout the week. Uh,

(03:15):
and they understand each other's post you know, and maybe
I don't know what the team has mustard up. This
is an opportunity for them, from the young coaches, to
get in there, you know, and make a name for themselves.
So let's see how it goes. I know, if they
keep him under twenty, the spotlight is gonna be on
a new play color. I don't think they on anybody

(03:36):
on the twenty. Maybe throughout the entire season, yeah, they
have it. It has been a rough year defensively, Fred
Taylor with us Mike Glennon is getting the start, and
I never thought we'd say that word this this year.
I'll be with you know, um JP. I don't know
a whole lot about Mike Gannon other than he's from

(03:58):
played at NC State. He was a third round draft
pick in two thousand, you know. Other than that, I mean,
I'm I'm I'm still pretty much like everyone else. But
whoever was out there, you know, they he's gonna arrost
for a reason. I mean, he has some ability. Let's
just see how well he does today. All right. On
the other side, a stable of running backs in Cleveland

(04:21):
one of the really good running offensive teams in football.
On the defensive side, I think their third in the
league and takeaways their opportunistic Uh. And they beat teams
they're supposed to be. They are undefeated I think six
and oh against teams with a record below five hundred.
They take care of business when they're supposed to most

(04:41):
of the times. And this is a challenge today, especially
against these running backs Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Different soulenge.
I guess just listening to that statistic, it doesn't bold
well for the Jaguars. Uh, but again, here's an opportunity
to get out there and and and show people what
you had. No matter if you're veteran, a young guy,

(05:02):
you gotta get out there. You gotta play the game. Uh.
It's not gonna be an easy task. Welcome back, Nick Chubb,
Kareem Hunt, their entire school, running backs, the offensive line,
they're playing well. As you mentioned, their defense, it is
playing lights out in previous years. You know, seeing a
seven and three Cleveland Brown team, you know that'll make

(05:23):
your head pop, you know. Uh, but they're in a
division with the Pittsburgh Steelers were attending. Oh, so it
doesn't look so sexy, but it's still a seven and
three team with an opportunity to Uh, come in here
and they're trying to make themselves eight and three and
eventually clinch a playoff wild card spot. So it's gonna

(05:43):
be a challenge. It's not gonna be easy. You gotta
do your best against the run. I sell out against
the run. I'll sell out against the run and on
my way to rushing the pastor Baker Mayfield, he will
give you a ball. He will throw it. That's why
they're taking They're taking it out of his hands and
put it in the hands of the running back because
they know he he was wanting to turn That's what

(06:04):
you want to do. Try to get him in third
and long and hopefully get after Mayfield when it's time
for him to pass the ball and give yourselves a
few opportunities and the takeaway department. From a defensive standpoint, offensively,
you gotta run the ball. James Robinson happy. He has
to have a big day, minimized the turnover opportunities for
the Cleveland Brown defense, and hopefully make it a ball game. Fred,

(06:26):
great stuff. As always, we will talk to you in
the post game a little bit later. Thanks looking forward
to a boss. Fred Taylor Hall of Fame semifinalist prior
to the Jaguars running back. Yes, yes, yeah, I said it.
We're back in a moment. The final word with head
coach Doug Broone before kickoff of the Browns and the
Jags a one o'clock kickoff time. This is countdown to
kickoff on Jaguars Radio.
