Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, I guess, good afternoon, Doug.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
We just get a quick update on I guess Anton
and Travis their injuries from yesterday.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Yeah, Travis had a had a hamstring in the game.
Speaker 4 (00:14):
He's going to be weak to week. Uh. He he
tweaked it on the on the on a on a
go ball.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Early in the game. And then Anton Anton is just
he's day to day. He's gonna he's gonna be fine.
He just got he got rolled up a couple of
times and and just the pile and things of that
nature durned the game.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
But he should be fine. He's more day to day.
Speaker 5 (00:39):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yesterday after the game in the locker room, Cisco said
to Brent Martineau action US Jacks that he felt like
the team quit.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
I'm wondering if if you talked to him about that,
what your thoughts are about that.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
I haven't seen the players today, being the schedules a
little bit different. They're off today, We're gonna work tomorrow,
be like our Monday before we before we head into
the week. I would like, you know, just to get
some clarification from his tow. I don't think it. I
don't think he meant it in.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
A in a in a in a you know, obviously
it's his his observation, but I.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Don't think it was necessarily, uh, you know, meant to
harm anything or point a finger at anybody or anything
like that. I think sometimes when you get in a
game like yesterday, that sometimes is the feeling. We've been
on the other side of that too, where where you know,
(01:39):
we've we've had games where you know, we felt like
you know, we we've had that type of success and
you feel that way with your opponent.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
But again, I don't think it was necessarily a finger pointing.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Okay, and one more, really quick, Are you getting enough
out of the free agent guys you signed? I mean,
I know Gabe had a couple of tad passes drops yesterday.
I don't know what Armstead's pressure rate was yesterday, but
it doesn't seem like he's he's helping out as much.
And you know, guys like Juvenate now on, I are
just are you getting enough here specifically, especially in terms
(02:15):
of leadership and helping a team fight through what you're
in right now?
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Yeah, you know, obviously those are things that we're gonna
we have to take a look.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
I have to take a look at we have to
look at those, you know, internally, you know, I do
believe that these guys are are are they're helping us. Listen,
we all need to do better. It's not again, I'm
not here to you know, point the finger at anybody
but myself really, and just make sure that we're getting
the most out of everyone.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
We're putting, you know, the best eleven on the field.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
And and and we've got to look at that, you know,
as a staff.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
And and you know, I know game's banged up a
little bit right.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Now, and Eric's been working through his is you know,
the off season injury and working himself back in and
obviously it's unfortunate with Devin right now, but you know,
it's it's something that you know, we've got to just
continue to.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
You know, continue to continue.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
To work, continue to just keep showing everybody, you know,
the good and the bad and and make the necessary corrections.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Thank you, Gary, followed by Jane.
Speaker 6 (03:31):
Yeah, Doug referenced to a number of hamstring injuries you've had,
and let me preface it by saying it's a it's
a league wide problem. I just went over the injury
reports and in terms of guys listed us out on Friday.
Hamstring is kind of leading the league. Is there any
easy explanation for this?
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (03:49):
And I've already seen people speculate that maybe guys aren't
hitting enough in the preseason, which goes back to a
CBA as you, But do you have an explain to
why there's so many hamstring injuries both on the team
and league wide?
Speaker 1 (04:03):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (04:03):
I don't, I don't, I I gosh, you know the
off season program. If you go back to the off
season program, it's it's it's obviously it's different, it's unique.
You know, it's something that we've we have focused.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
On here, you know, but I don't know, it's it.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Is a it is a phenomenon that that that we
need to look at medically and and do everything we
can from a from a strength conditioning standpoint two to
you know, treatment and rehab to you know the way
we you know, even the way we practice, to the
way you know, the way the off season program.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Is set up.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
But it's it's it's definitely something that I know the
league is looking at it.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
They look at it every year, as do the club.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
So we just gotta we just gotta keep I think,
just keep working with our guys and and making sure
that you know, they're getting they're getting everything they need,
you know, physically, uh to to stay healthy.
Speaker 7 (05:09):
Hi, thank you yep, being followed by Miyau.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
First couple of games, the defense seemed to, you know,
hold up its end and do a pretty good job
of putting you guys in position to win games. But
in the four games since then, it seems like, uh,
it's gone to a level that is in many ways
unacceptable for a coaching staff. Can you, uh, you know,
(05:38):
kitpoint anything that's changed so much? And is it just
a matter of you know, getting a Foyer and a
Tyson Campbell back on the field to try to, uh
to remedy the points and yards that you guys have
given up the last four games.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
Gee, that's you know, obviously it's a that's a great question.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
You know. We we've got to make sure that number one, uh,
as coaches, we we we prepare our players during We
we show them everything we can what to anticipate, you know,
on game day, you know, and making sure that they're
they're they're prepared mentally more so than than physically. Uh
To to the second part of your question, I do
(06:19):
believe that. You know, hopefully we get you know, Tyson
Campbell back that that would be a big, a big boost,
you know, defensively there. I think it would help the
whole defense. You know, he's he's he's one of the leaders,
you know, on the team. And getting him back in there.
It's good to get him back in practice last week
and and get him going and and Andy and Foy
(06:40):
is an emotional leader as well as a sort of
that inspirational guy and a good football player.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
And when you're missing those.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Those two, you know, starters like that, it does it
does impact your defense. So we've got to make sure
one it starts with the coaches and then and then
two you know, the players just take the lead from there.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Thanks, We'll go to Mia then to Mark.
Speaker 8 (07:06):
Kind of building off that a little bit, Doug, I
know you said last week the hope is to have
Tyson back this week. When it comes to the secondary,
do you anticipate any other changes? Knowing to Sean Gibson
also would be available this week.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
Yeah, Well, in regardss to Sean, you know, we still
haven't heard necessarily really from the league yet. You know,
we have to wait for the league to clear him
offer the suspension, right, So that's that's to Sewan's case
right now. So so maybe that'll that.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Will happen this week or or in the near future.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
You know, obviously, you know Savage Savage missed and and
you know a couple of games in there, and you know,
I think I think too there there are some young guys.
There's some young guys back there, but but they're playing
extremely hard and and and you know, again, we just
got to make sure that with even with the guys
(08:00):
that we do have coming back, right Tyson's coming back,
and we're hopeful, hopefully to get you know.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Dowey back maybe uh maybe in.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
A week or two. We'll see, we'll see where that is.
And and you know, these are these are these are
leaders of your secondary. These are veteran players who can
can bring that leadership back there, you know, in the secondary.
And and but but it's taken nothing away from you know,
we I do think Antonio and and Cisco you know,
(08:29):
played better yesterday this some there's a good thing.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Cisco had had a nice.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Interception yesterday, and and uh, you know, we're still learning
and and and again it goes back to just making sure.
As coaches, we we prepare these guys, put them in
the right situations, and then and then ultimately the communication
on the field.
Speaker 8 (08:48):
I'll quick run through just to confirm both Savage and
Jari and pass through concussion protocol.
Speaker 5 (08:54):
They're good to go.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Yeah, they were checked during the game and they both returned,
so yes.
Speaker 9 (09:01):
Okay, cool.
Speaker 8 (09:01):
And then if you could evaluate Ronald Darby the first
two weeks of the season versus these last two three.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Well, Ronald's you know, Darves is another one that a
veteran player, you got that we brought in here to
to give us some some time, you know, some valuable
time there corner.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
And and again he's still doing some good things. And
I think.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
I think that he's you know, been in a good position.
He had opportunities. It's just it necessarily hasn't hasn't translated
yet onto the field a couple of plays, but you know,
he's doing fine.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Like where he's at.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Would we love to give him, you know, a player
here or a series of rest here or there to
to you know prolong that I mean, I think it's
part of the part of the plan.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
I think we could. I think we could do that.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
And and and now again with with Tyson coming back
and and and how Buster has been playing and potentially jarring,
you know, play in the corner Nickel spot. I think
there's some some rotational things now that we can do defend.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
We're starting to get.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
More bodies back, and then that's that's a positive to
the entire defense.
Speaker 8 (10:06):
Gotcha, Thanks Doug.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Yeap.
Speaker 10 (10:10):
Mark, you had this quote after the game to Bucky
Brooks where you said, got to change that culture otherwise
it gets out of control. We're on a slippery soap
on the cusp of that slope.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Blah blah blah.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Enough is enough?
Speaker 10 (10:23):
What what is the what's the culture that you guys?
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Is it a losing culture here? I mean, like, what
is the culture that you're looking to change?
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Well?
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Mark, yeah, I mean obviously we've lost some games here, right,
so we want to change that culture to to winning culture.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
That's that's why we coach, and that's why we play.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
I think you know to that statement that I made,
I mean, you know, these these these guys listen, they
bust their tails. I've said this and you've seen, I
mean you've seen how we've practiced. I mean, these guys
bust their tails. During the week, and I don't want
it to I don't want them to feel even though
(11:05):
we haven't won yet, I don't want them to feel
sort of mentally defeated, if that makes sense, because that's
where the slippery slope comes in, right. If you feel
like you're going into a game where you don't have
a chance, then then you're not gonna have a chance.
You're not gonna give yourself an opportunity to win that game.
So that's what I mean by that culture there. We
(11:27):
just got to make sure these guys stay stay mentally, uh,
stay positive with each other, stay positive, you know, during
the week and.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
Listen. Bottom line is just just go out and have
fun and play.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
And it's a great game to coach and a great
game to play, but winning obviously helps that.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
We'll go to Jamal, then to Brent Hey Doug.
Speaker 7 (11:52):
Some of the guys have said mentioned about like being
a hard practicing team and they don't think they have
a practice problem.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
It just doesn't show up on game day.
Speaker 7 (12:01):
Where is the disconnect between doing it on the practice
field and it's showing up on the game field.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
You know, Jamal I, I wish I had a crystal
ball to answer that question.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
You know, I look, it's you see it. You see
it in practice.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
You know, even even when there's a mistake made, you know,
we go back and correct that mistake, right we want to.
It's that positive reinforcement. And then sometimes too in a game.
I don't know, I mean, listen, I'm I'm not going
to sit here and you know you make excuses. That's
that's the wrong thing to do. But that's something we
got to figure out. We got to figure that together. Honestly.
(12:44):
Why that doesn't always translate. It's it's not all the time,
but it is some of the time. And and and
right now the times that it doesn't, you know, the
opponent has an explosive play, a run or a pass,
and and those are those are the most that we've
we've we've got to we got to eliminate.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Thanks j Yeah, this will be the last two.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Brent and then John Shipley.
Speaker 11 (13:11):
And Doug in the past at least uh covering this team,
it feels like if you have a lot of drops,
you'd see it like in training camp or practice, and
it starts to become kind of a thing. Just curious
if if that's kind of your experience as well, and
do you guys see that in practice, because I think
this team now.
Speaker 9 (13:28):
Leads the league over the last three years and drops
and you've got a lot of good receivers, highly paid receivers,
but still not making some of the catches that should
be made. Do you see it in practice? And does
that translator? Is it a little bit isolated to Sundays?
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Well, you know, obviously, that's that's something that we're you know,
we're aware of as a staff and you know constantly,
you know, talk to our team about one about about catches,
about ball security, you know, all those things, and.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
You know, think when it comes to to catching.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
The football, I think it's just it's just the focusing concentration, right,
It's just it's looking the ball into the tuck and
making sure that you you you know, you class the
football on contact and and things of that nature. But
you know, you get the occasional drop in practice. But
again that's where that's where the reinforcement comes in. The
guys want to the guys want to get back and
(14:23):
get that rep over again. Makes that catcher or Trevor
will take those guys to another field and work on
those throats and.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
That's and that's really what you what you gotta do, and.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
You slowly kind of uh, you know, week by week
kind of work yourself, you know, work yourself out of
that U out of that out of that hole.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
Thanks last one, John.
Speaker 5 (14:49):
I mean, hey, Doug, it seems like the last couple
of weeks quarterbacks scrambling have been a little bit of
an issue with the defense. Just is that a byproduct
of the scheme or what is that it really can
make to fix that? Just know that there aren't many
statues at quarterback anymore these days.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Yeah, you know, that's something that going into the esterday's game,
we knew, you know, Caleb is a is a very
slippery quarterback. He's an athletic guy, and and we had
to stay disciplined, you know, in in our rush lanes
and and you know, look we had opportunities to get
him on the ground, and we did it yesterday. And
and that's the that's the part we've got to look
at and obviously fix and and and correct. But you know, look,
(15:29):
those guys are good athletes too, you know, speaking from experience, right,
so you know it's it's you're not always going to
get them, but but when you have an opportunity, right,
you got to make the play and and.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
But then you got to know too, like how is
that quarterback going to escape?
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Is he gonna Is he going to spin out and
back door you is he gonna front door?
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Is he going to go up through the pocket? Up
and out?
Speaker 3 (15:54):
You know, And and that's all, that's all just studying
the quarterback, studying the opponent. But you know, definitely got
to improve there and make sure that you know, we
we we do our parts of and then and then
you know, two when when the quarterback does scramble, you know,
making sure you you know the plaster technique right, the
plaster on the on the on the receivers, and making
(16:16):
sure that uh, you'd rather him run than than than
an explosive pass. But obviously yesterday two of them, you know,
one was an explosive run and the other was an
explosive pass, which is the double WHAMMYE.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
So something we got to improvement
