Speaker 1 (00:02):
Jordan and Jake go good.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I'm excited, ready to go the home stops.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
He throws at a crossfield. Guess who, George Grouse.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Here are your Panther Hall of Honor members, Jordan's Gross
and Jake Delom.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Jake Delome, Jordan Gross. Here the Jordan Jake Podcast Jake
Winning Winning Week edition.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
We won, right, we won? Yeah, we won and it
was and it was fun.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
It was one one and it was fun and it
was in the sun. Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
It was. It was great. I love it. I love it.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
We need more of this, we need a lot more
of this.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
And then the Saints got their coach fired and that's
awesome because that's not us.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
And things are good. I wore my Panther shirt on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
I go to my high school coaches meeting and everybody's
high five and me Panthers win.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Life is good right now?
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Man? I agree?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
It was uh, you know, Jordan's it was just a
different field Sunday, And I know that my sound, you know,
kind of crazy to say after the fact, but I
love going to watch the opposite clothing team warm up.
If you can watch as much film as you want
until you see him in the flesh and certainly very
familiar with the Saints players, but watching them warm up.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
They just you get this wasn't a juice.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
There wasn't anything happening on that that whole warm up,
and then you kind of glance over at us and
we're bouncing around, and I'm watching the quarterback have a
smile on his face, which I really and truly hadn't
seen a whole lot. And then when the team gets introduced,
it's gonna be the defense, well when the whole rest
of the team, because out of the tunnel, Bryce is
by himself leading the team.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
I just it was just a different field man. It was.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
It was fun, and uh, you know, it was able
to win it at the end and in the fourth
quarter and and have a little needle down.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Well, and a lot of guys that had been major
parts in this game, Bryce Young to start with, had
been sitting on the bench for a little while and
so it was a different win in different cast characters.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Now, the big mysterious.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Is is who should be the starting quarterback as the
Panthers head to Germany. I like Dave Canalis, he said,
it's a little bit about we're not sure yet. But
it's also about why why I announce it? Let the
Giants get ready for somebody in particular, Jake, do you
got a hunch on this deal?
Speaker 2 (02:19):
I don't have a hunch at all, you know, And
I'm like, Dave, you know why why tell the other
team what the plan is and and see how it
plays out? You would you would think that number nine
is gonna line up, but hey, you just don't know,
you know.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
I mean, it's, uh, you heard Andy was back last week.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
He was gonna be back being a ready to play,
and kind of thought he would be the starter, but nope,
they said Brice would be the starter.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
So you just got to go with it.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
But the team just kind of proud of the team,
proud of the way this team fought. That's one thing
that I will get this team. This team's got some
fight in it. That's not you know, it's the season
has been roughs, but this team's got a lot of
fight and they play hard and they come back and listen.
Yet the pass down the sideline, beautiful throat. He has
(03:09):
to catch unbelievable interception by Jean Charles for the Saints,
but Legett comes back because he was furious about it.
He catches a big inter out on a third and
long on the final drive of the game, and then
he said grapping when he caught it, he secured it
and that ball wasn't being taken from him.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
So things like that you love to see.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Well, it was definitely a fun win and I love
listening to the game. The speech after, Coach Canalis is
highlighting guys that's had sacks and touchdowns and individuals stuff, and.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Then he said, you guys did so great. We get
a victory Monday, Jake.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
And when you're losing, I don't always rub me the
wrong way that we there's other teams out there, you know.
It's like a tradition in the NFL. Not always, but
if you're playing well, coaches will say see a Wednesday
or win Monday, which means we still expect you to
come in and get your treatment and watch tape, but
you don't have to do it at a certain time.
With the position coaches, you could do it on your own.
(04:05):
Just a little bone that throw you for winning, right, Well,
when you keep losing with you and I have done
together at times, you never get a dang victory Monday.
So the room just blew up after announcing the victory Monday, Jake,
don't you think that felt pretty good, especially knowing that
you're rolling into a transcontinental Is that the right word?
Speaker 4 (04:23):
International?
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Travel to go to Munich, Germany to play the Rams,
earnest the Ram the Giants.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah, you know, darn, it's both. Bigure Mondays were always great.
It's just something about, yes, you know, you're still gonna
come in, You're still gonna probably.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Get other day, do a little yet a little.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Sweat, watch the field, but knowing you don't have to
do it at a certain time.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
I mean, that was always something that it was just special.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
You know for some of the players that have children, Hey,
dad gets to bring you to school on Monday, or.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
You know, if you have a younger child not in
school yet, Hey you want to go out breakfast mart.
You know, just.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Somethings as small as that that goes a long way,
and just for the player, I think more mentally for
the player because the season is such a grind, but
those little nuggets here and there, it certainly means a lot.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Let's talk about traveling to Munich now, Jake, playing the Giants,
not the Rams. Playing the Giants, Brian Burns obviously is
a player for the Giants now who's had a good
season or two for the Carolina Panthers. Before we talk
about traveling to munich A guy that might be blocking
Brian Burns depends on the status of Ikey is Brady Christensen,
(05:39):
who played left tackle for the Carolina Panthers on Sunday,
has played center for the Carolina Panthers this year with
Corbett being.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Out, Jake, I got a well.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Even though this guy went to BYU, who is a
rival of my alma mater, University of Utah, we happen
to be playing each other this weekend. I'm gonna go
to the game and cheer for my utes. But Brady
Christensen's done a phenomenal job, Jake, going from center to
left tackle and maybe back, that is a big deal,
and that is a hard transition. And that is a
(06:10):
valuable dang player right there that can do both of those.
I thought he did a phenomenal job. It's going to
be a if he does play left tackle. Brian Burns,
you know, is going to be very hungry to have
success against his former team. But I gotta take my
hat off to Brady going from snapping the ball and
dealing with big three hundred and twenty pound guys right
over the top of you at center to making the call.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Now you're going left tackle.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
You got to kick with wide rushers and all the
twist games and blitz that come with that incredible asset
for the Panthers. And I can't say enough nice things
about it. Man, I just had to spend a little
time giving him some praise.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Well, I'm glad you did, Jordan. He's one on our broadcast.
You know.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
It's one I'm proud to say. I'm brought up because
I just know how difficult it is to play one
left tackle, but to play center in the Denver game,
and then to have to go to left tackle during
the course of the game in the second half, Like,
could you have done that? Have you ever played center
(07:08):
in your life? I guess that's a question. That is
a different Your feet are so different. I wouldn't think
center if you're not reaching somebody or running a stretch
play where you're trying to hurry up to get to
a certain side that the footwork, there's nothing.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
It's nothing like playing left tackle.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
No, it's completely different. I've never done it. I don't
want to ever do it. I was the backup emergency
center one year for about four games. Something happened and
we had guys injured, and I had to practice it, right,
I had to practice center. I was a worse left
tackle just knowing that I had to maybe play center
someone got hurt. After every play, I was looking like,
(07:46):
did the center get hurt? Am I okay, okay, good, No,
it's a mess. And that that is a just a
giant part to the foundation of something that's happening in
the in the building, hopefully this year and beyond. To
add to that, Jake, the news today, Jonathan Mingo got traded.
John Mingo on a seventh round pick got traded to
(08:07):
the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth round pick next year.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
Jake, have you had time to digest that?
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Yeah? I did, Jordan, And you know, I'm actually surprised.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
You know, he got traded for a fourth to be
quite honest, I understand we gave up a seventh but uh,
fourth round pick, that's a that's a valuable pick, to
be quite honest. But Jordan, when you look at the
statuet for the game this past weekend, our three leading
receivers guess who rookie fourth round pick, tight end, rookie
first round pick, wide receiver, rookie undrafted wide receiver.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
So that kind has to.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Show you and I don't know, you know, their speculation
out if feeling, I'm not sure what's gonna happen there,
but you know he's getting close to coming back, and
you know, some of the minutes have started to dwindo
a little bit and hell mingo. Listen, I didn't really
know the guy that well practiced hard from what everything
I've been told.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Playing hard. I think he had forty three catches last year.
But as the NFL, Jordan.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
And Dallas had a need, and that's that's a valuable pick,
to be quite honest.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
You get a fourth round pick next year. We're adding
to some picks for next year.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
We're gonna have our whole allotment of picks, and plus
it's not just gonna be you know, five picks in
the draft.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
And so I kind of liking that.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
I like where Dan Morgan and Brant tell Us have
gone in the draft. It seems like we're going after
guys that were production based in college in college and
guys who love football. It's a big difference short, and
it's something I'll always harp on.
Speaker 5 (09:39):
You can be good at football and like it, but
if you're good at football and you love it, I'm
much if I'm taking you. I mean, I want somebody
that loves it because football is gonna get hard, and
I want that guy that's ready to grind when things
do get hard.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
I mentioned the fact that the Saints moved on from
Dennis Allen and let him go, you have to think
that with the moves the Panthers are making, with trades
with John Center earlier now Mingo, you have to think
that the Panthers' front office and head coach feel like
they've got commitment from ownership and some job security to
make these moves. So, yes, we're doing everything we can
(10:15):
to win now, and Sunday was a perfect example of that.
But also, hey, we've got a plan, and you know, hey,
if this guy isn't working out, now, let's move him
and get some draft stock for him. And I would
expect that there's gonna be some consistency with who's running
the show at Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
It certainly seems that way.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
There seems like there's an extreme amount of alignment with
the head coach and the general manager, and then you
throw in brand Tillis who came in there. It just
seems like they're in lockstep with what they want to do.
And you know, Jordan, whether we like it or not,
this was going to be a retooling type of year,
somewhat rebuilding now that I think these injuries would occur,
(10:56):
especially with our best football player losing him mindus effect
on this defense, and then losing Shack and some other
players that we were counting on, which you know, injuries happened.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
But I just kind of like where we're at, and yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Would you like to have more than two wins, well, certainly,
but this team just keeps battling and there's just something
about it. I just think, and I like what we're
doing coaching wise. I mean, look, who let us in
tackles once again. Demani Richardson, undrafted rookie free agent out
of Texas A and M like a kid who showed
up in camp, who you know, went to the practice
(11:31):
squad Because we have some veterans at safety that we
had brought in in the in the off season, they've
had some injuries. This kid stayed the course. He gets
in he plays two weeks and he leads the team
in tackles in two weeks.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
So one is development. One it's the eye for the
personnel to sign him.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Two is development of the coaches, and three is given
the player credit for learning how to be be a professional.
And that's that's what you want. And I don't know, George.
There was a course, there was a sequence of plays
in the game in the third quarter that offensively you know,
Luke kind of looked at me and he was like,
(12:07):
did you see that? We ran like three or four
plays in a row and they built off of one another.
And what I mean by that It wasn't like, Okay,
we're running a power play to the right or zone
play to the left, or we're gonna try this drop
back pass, or we're gonna try this play action.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
It was a set up of a play.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
It was a run to the left, brought a certain
motion from across the ball.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Then we brought a motion from outside in run to
the left.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Then we did it again because we had success, and
then there was a bootleg off of it for a
big play. Like those are the things you're kind of
starting to see. We're building and that's something that I
know as the next quarterback that loved how you could
set up plays and then for Luke to notice that
he goes, you know, he goes. That would give me trouble.
That's given me the same look. I'm starting to maybe think, hey,
(12:54):
they're gonna do this. Oh gosh, it's the same look.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
They didn't do it.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
They did something else. I just little things like I
think you're starting to see with his football team.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Well, another thing you might see with this football team
is Jonathan Brooks coming.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Back off of injured reserve. As windows been open, he's
been practicing. And rookie class that's produced incredibly well this
year could have a boost there. Jake, do you have
any idea on what to expect from him if we're
going to see him a trip to Germany might be
kind of a tough first game. Maybe it's after the bye,
which is awesome by the way, that we're finally having
(13:26):
to buy this team. You know is looking forward to that.
But any hope for him this week?
Speaker 2 (13:30):
That's a good question, Jordan. That's something that you know,
one certainly we haven't. We played our cords very close
to the best. I can't answer that, Jordan, I don't
know that yet. I know he has been practicing, and
all accounts is that he's pretty smooth and he does well.
But you know, I guess a luxury would be, Hey, yes,
we used the second round pick on you, and we
(13:52):
know we're gonna use you because I think running back
said is very valuable in this league.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
But that other running.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Back for US, number third, Tuba Howard, he's pretty damn
good and this guy's a workhorse, and so you know,
that's a luxury that I like to think we have
right now. So I'm not sure if he's gonna come back,
but if he does come back, I would I would
assume it would be kind of some spot playing time
because the way Trooper is running the football and playing,
(14:21):
it's that's I'm so proud to see that.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Well either way, either way you slice it, it's a
boon to our backfield and our team to get somebody
fresh and then young and excited to get out there
and maybe get some carries. As you were talking, Jake,
I was doing just a little bit of research on
the Mingo trade, and according to ESPN dot com, the
great they graded that trade. Jake, would you like to
hear the grades for us and the Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
I mean, I'll hear it.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
But the Panthers get an a great perfect and the
Cowboys got.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
A D plus on that trade.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
So that's what ESPN thinks about that one right there.
So I'm happy to be on the side of that. So, hey,
we're going to Germany. Well I'm not, and you're not either, right, No,
And you know, listen, family calls.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
We have a playoff game for the for Lindsey.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
We started the playoffs on Thursday and all indications we
should have a favorable outcome and then we'll play again
on Saturday afternoon. So be hard pressed to miss my
my young child's uh senior year in the playoffs. But
on top of that, I think the big man upstairs
knew he was looking out for me. We're having the
rescheduled homecoming football game this Friday evening where I'll be
(15:34):
walking on the homecoming court that got canceled a few
weeks back due to a suspension of the other teams.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
So things have kind of worked out. I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
But Luke will be doing it with along with a
Niche and the rest of the guys, and looking forward
to listening to him I'll watch the game on TV,
but have listened.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Listen to them give the broadcast And speaking of.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Sports teams and kids, how did your kids fare this
Friday evening in the playoffs?
Speaker 4 (16:03):
We won forty seven thirteen.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Okay, Jordan Groves, head coach for Win. Nice, yep, no
I won.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
I won a playoff game two years ago. Jake, watch it.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
Okay, thanks for nothing.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Yeah, who do we play this week?
Speaker 4 (16:20):
Kimberly Bulldogs.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Pladed them to start their regular season, and we beat
them by three points ten weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
So yeah, it's a grudge match right now.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Well, no, it's not. It's a rematch. It could be
a good match either way, So we have to go.
You have to go to that, really, Yeah, even though
we beat them and Max preps sets everything with our
high school playoff system and they're ranked higher for some reason.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
But it'll be good.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
I know the coach pretty well and it'll be They
got some good players, so we'll see what happens. You know,
if we lose, it's going to be a huge shock.
To be honest with you, it'd be a huge shot.
Not that we lost, I'm just saying that the season's
over so abrupt, you know, because when you're in the
high school level, it's about the seniors, right, and that
last week I'm telling the seniors, hey, we got to
(17:11):
earn the right to be.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Together one more week.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
And then with these kids, like almost all of them
on both sides of the ball, or both sides both teams,
they're not gonna play football ever again in their whole life.
And there's tears and people are crying and parents are crying,
and it's a heck.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Of a deal. So yeah, we'll see, Jake, we got
a good shot, but we'll see.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Yeah, I hear you about the whole senior deal. But
you know what, you're not gonna lose.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
And you know what, the turns Catholic lady rebels are
not gonna lose this Thursday, and they're not gonna lose
this Saturday. So we're gonna talk next weekend and we're
gonna be preparing.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
For some more playof volleyball and play off football. How
about that?
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Well, evidently he suggested that God above cares about your
high school sports.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
So maybe the same old.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Street, it's about the young ladies that were named to
the court and the senior football players. You know that
the reason that happened, and you know I believe that,
So don't.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Let's want to let's talk about traveling to Germany to play.
You and I did ever play in the NFL game overseas.
You lived over there for two seasons and played football.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
But man, what a time change.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
Panthers are leaving Thursday afternoon, right, get over there Thursday night,
play Sunday. There's no way you're adjusted to the time zone, Jake,
So what's the strategy here?
Speaker 2 (18:32):
So, Jordan, we did the same thing the two times
I went over to Europe. You left in the evening,
late afternoon evening, and both times we flew from the
East coast, you know, in essence Atlanta and it was Orlando.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
So we're on the eastern side of the United States.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
And so you fly there and you fly through the night,
and when you get there, it's the morning, and so
you try everything we were told was to stay up.
You want to stay up as long as you can
that day, and then you'll go to bed early the Friday,
so you'll get you a pretty strong sleep, and then
I'm assuming there'll be a practice on the Saturday to
get you know, trying to get.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
The juices flowing and things like that.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
So I've never done it, but I think both teams
are both doing that. The times that we did it,
we flew out a week and a half prior because
one we were getting into our new living arrangements for
the whole season and and things like that going into
our facility, so there was a lot more involved. But
both teams are on the same schedule, so to speak.
(19:32):
And I'm assuming there's been a ton of sports science
research and what's the best way to do it and
things like that, so thoth team has an advantage. They
both going up at the same time. And usually it's
gonna come down to in the words of John Fox,
who makes the least of out of mistakes on that
sent me, I think.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Bluke Keigley's gonna have a blast over there, drinking in
the culture and taking.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Photos of all the scenery.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Such a travel junkie Jake, I don't know if he's
gonna even make it to kick offf He's probably gonna
be out looking at the mountains and trying to catch
a fish somewhere in Germany.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Well probably so, and you know how he is. It's
difficult to call a game with him. I had to
over prepare because I know he usually doesn't prepare and
things like that.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
But listen, that's just the price we gotta pay.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
You know, that's right, Jake. After that the buy comes up.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
I mentioned it just for a second, but you gotta
think that the guys are looking forward to that.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
Man.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
This has been a heck of a push to start
this season. Maybe Luke learned Germany, doesn't He's prepared so much.
He might be even learning German to do the broadcast
in German, which would not surprise me either way.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
I'm gonna look forward to watch or watching the game and.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Listening to it.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Seven thirty am kickoff Mountain time, so I'll be up
early drinking coffee for that thing. But have fun at homecoming,
and I will talk to you next week, buddy.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
It'd be good.
