Speaker 1 (00:02):
Jordan and Jake. You're good.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I'm excited.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
Ready to go them stops. He throws at a crossfield.
Guess who, George Grouse.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Here are your Panther Hall of Honor members, Jordan Gross
and Jake Delome.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Jordan Gross, Jake DeLoone the Jordan and Jake Podcast. Bye week, Jake,
it's the bye week and we won a football game
and things are looking good, my friend.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yes, Jordan, it is looking good. Uh, Jordan, We've won two.
You know, we didn't just win a game. We won
two back to back.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Remember we used to ride it on the board in
the weight room back to back and then we keep
going to back to back. One year, there's like eight
of them. It was let's do that.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
But not really that.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
I think we won again. We won a bunch of
fans over in Germany.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
That's what I believe.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Mm hmm, A bunch of German Panther fans with the
last name of the Gross. You know what it means,
ard 're big in German.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
I did not know that. I'm glad there you that, yep,
there you go. Yeah, love it, love it.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
But yeah, Jordan, I mean just you know, going overseas
and go and get a win and two weeks in
a row, you just you kind of feel some excitement,
you know, with the team once again, young kids leading
the way to behoved, getting rewarded for his extension and
for him to come out to play the offensive line
the way they play. Just you know, I don't know, man,
(01:28):
DJ want im coming back. Watching him and Clowney on
the field. I just fun day, fun day.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Extremely fun day. And I know that there wasn't like
a huge vendetta against Brian Burns or anything like that.
But anytime there's a significant transaction Christian McCaffrey or whatever,
it's the first time you play that team, I just
I'm happy for our guys, you know what I mean,
I'm happy for the O line. Like you said, uh,
(01:55):
Stupo was awesome. I thought his knee, man, when he
got it wasn't It wasn't hip drop, but it was
kind of similar. I just was like, that's unfortunate right there.
And then turns out he's okay. He said it dislocated momentarily,
which that's happened before.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yeah, the way he sounded so nonchalantly like, yeah, it's happened,
But that field was a little it looked a little slippery,
to say the least, and you know, kind of reading
up and and things.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Like that, you're kind of hearing that.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
You know, Jonathan Brooks was was available if possible, but
they kind of held him out due to caution of
the field. I thought that's a pretty smart move, and
it gives him two more weeks to continue to practice
and get more reps and things like that. So it
sounds like Miles Sanders he left on the court, but
it sounds like the early prognosis it's actually fairly decent.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
We don't know yet.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
I haven't heard yet, but word is that looks like
it might not have been maybe as severe as it
as it seemed at that moment.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Yeah, fantastic. The slick grass thing. It's funny they read
a bunch of players wore their seven studs screwing cleats
and those are so hard to find, Jake, because you know,
with me at high school football, all our kids have
their one pair of cleats, and all the cleats now
are like plastic molded, super light, cool looking, flashy cleats,
(03:17):
but nothing with like By the end of the season,
we walked across dang blacktop to get to our practice
field and all that, the guys cleats are kind of
worn down, and I'm saying we got to get some
seven studs, and the kids are like, what are seven studs?
But I'm just happy to know they still exist at
the top level because that's what you got to do
in that field gets nasty man.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
No, there's no doubt.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
And Jordan, well, why don't you explain what seven studs
are too? Because I did not wear those because I
had a little bad toe action and just that didn't
work well. But explain exactly what's yeah, seven studs and
why the benefit.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
So your typical cleat most football guys were is called
a molded bottom, which is like it's a rubber than
plastic combination bottom to the cleat where you've got a
number of cleats in there, like I don't know, Jake,
like maybe seven or eight at the like the ball
of the foot toe area, and then four or five
(04:10):
six down by the heel, a lot of places of
contact for the ground. But they are only a certain length, right,
like a half inch when they're brand new. Well, a
seven stud only gives you seven cleats, but they're literally
like a thick, heavy duty rubber almost like a it's
like a screw or a bolt, I guess it is,
with this cleat as the head. And so you take
(04:32):
this special attachment and use a drill gun and attach
them into your bottom of your shoe and you can
go different links all the way after like an inch.
So it just allows that shoe to like get all
the way down into the dirt and the soil of
the field. To your point, not as comfortable, much stiffer.
I'm gonna hurt if you've got a bad toe because
(04:54):
they're just a stiffer cleat, but it sure gives you
the the traction that you need. So now that was
fun to hear the guys talk about that, because I've
just been discussing that with my team. And by the way,
we lost some of my seasons over just.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
So, gosh, what was the score? How did it go?
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Twenty seven? Twenty six overtime? Oh my gosh, yeah, yeah,
we tied them up. They missed a field goal to
win it. Go to overtime. High school overtime. You get
the ball on the ten yard line, right, everybody's gonna
get one possession, so you get first and goal from
the ten. You got one time out we score, we
(05:32):
get the ball first we score, we go for pat, Jake,
like you would, so we make our pat. We're up seven.
They get the ball, they score. Everybody calls time out
both sides. They go for two. We zero blitz them.
They get the ball off, throw their big tall receiver.
He catches it. Game over. Oh it was rough, Jake.
(05:54):
It was rough, but you know what, we gave it
everything we got. And now I'm in offseason. But today
was your check in. So I was in my storage
room going through a whole bunch of guys. You got
your shoulder pads, check, you got your knee pads. Check. Ah,
where's your practice pants? I'm gonna need those. Go ask
your mom, do that old deal. So I felt like
Don Toner today. But enough about that. Another another thing
(06:18):
I gotta tell you though. After our game, our game
was Friday Saturday, me and my family zip down to
watch Utah host by U in what's known as the
Holy War. Yes, big time rivalry games, sold out crowd.
Utah ended up losing by one.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Point, and I did see a little reaction from the
Utah ad who walked into the press conference after the
game and which he never does, and talked about the
refereeing and how the game was actually taken from.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
The Yeah, those were some bold words there, but that's
that's what a good college rivalry will bring out in people,
is passion.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Do you agree with his statement?
Speaker 1 (07:02):
So what I think what they're referring to is it
was four and ten. BYU had the ball with under
two minutes to go on like their own four or
five yard line. Ball snap, the crowd going wild. You
can't hear anything. Ball snap, play plays out. QB's in
the back of the end zone. He just throws it
away for a safety. Everybody's cheering we won the game.
(07:22):
The refs deliberate and then say nope. BYU called time
out before the play started, so then you know, everybody's
pissed and all of our mojo's gone. And BYU then
goes down the field. It's some big passes, kicks a
field goal to win the game. I don't know, man,
I was in a stand drinking hot chocolate, so I
can't tell you what happened. All I know is the
(07:43):
crowd was pretty pissed. It was amazing. I did though, Jake,
there is a clip. I'll send it to you. I
was chosen to wave the flag right before kickoff to
pump up the crowd. And I didn't just do a
normal flag waving, Jake. Do you want to hear what
I did?
Speaker 3 (07:56):
I would love to hear. I can only imagine.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Wide stance left hand over right, big figure eights right,
just to get them warmed up so they know what's coming.
Then I released the right hand, hold her high and
proud in my left and I complete a big looping
circle running around on the field, then back to home
base in front of the camera, drop her down. Left
(08:21):
hand now becomes the neck of the guitar, and I
air guitar that flag for about five to seven seconds.
That it worked, wonders and he was actually on the
TV copy as well.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
So there you go. I need it.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
I need to see this video and maybe you know,
we could get you know, producer Matt uh To, possibly,
I don't know, maybe start our weekly episode of the
Jordan and Jake podcast started with that, because that would
be some pretty good intro.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
So that's how you shake off a tough overtime playoff
losses pumping up sixty thousand people with air guitar on
a flag, Jake. That's how you do that.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
That's one thing about Jordan Gross.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
You will show up every day, every week, no matter what,
you will show up.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
I love it to the Panthers. Did you have a
Hubbard career high rushing? Yeah, that's what you want to
do after you sign up for your extension.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Did you know that, Jake, Yeah, that's what you want
to do. And you know, Jordan, you hit on something.
You talked about Brian Burns and he got a sack.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
I believe in the second player of the game, We're
trying to run my neck and we had run the
ball one time. They were trying to run same action
again and get Bryce to come out, and Bryce kind
of slipped and Burns got him a little easy one.
And but I just think if you watched throughout the
course of the game, the respect that the players of
the Panthers had.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
For Brian and same thing with Brian on the other
way around.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
You know, it's a you know, for whatever reason, you know,
front office, whatever happened there with contract negotiations and things,
it just didn't work out. But yeah, it was you
always love to play your old team. I know I
did that. You didn't you never had to do that.
But It always means a lot more when you play
your old team. But glad we were able to come
(10:00):
out victorious, and yeah, what a great win. Sounds like
all the guys that went really had a great time.
That crowd listening to the game. It's so cool. They
playing Sweet Caroline before it ended, and I'm like, oh gosh,
please don't do this. And then and then a Country
Road by John Denver and when the music stops, you
could just hear the crowd continuing just to sing and
(10:23):
belt out the words.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
I thought that was so cool, No, very fun.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Bryce Young fifteen to twenty five, one hundred and twenty
six yards passing one TD so Jake not you know,
not like player of the Week kind of numbers, but
he got the win. And I love listening to him
postgame in the locker room and at the podium, like
just so happy. And I just feel so good for
that kid, because this has tested him this week or
(10:47):
this year, this season.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Sure has it has in last year, but just he
just seems happier. And then that's the thing that I
just didn't see it in the first two games of
the season, and you just felt somebody crippling themselves and
just look at what's going around, you know, like so
much was made last year CJ. Shroud and the Texans,
they're struggling some this year. There's you know, people are
(11:09):
starting to question him and things like that. And even
Chicago Caleb Williams number one overall pick all this pressure
of extremely talented football team. One of the most impressive
teams I've seen this year, especially in person, was the Bears.
But just watch them struggle mightily and they get a
coach fired off it'sive coordinator fired and so it just
goes to show you how difficult it is. This league
(11:31):
is hard, and we want the expectations we throw out there,
just they're unrealistic sometimes. So glad to see the kid
come in and you know, play happy football. And what
I mean by that it just seems like just he's
enjoying it and we're having young guys making.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Plays, stepping up, and but this is where it gets fun.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
So you get a buy right and then now, I mean,
the season, if you think about it, it's almost over
when you look at it, when you go through training
camp and all that, how much little time you have left.
But it gets good now, man, I mean the Chiefs
coming up, you know, and then was it Tampa and
then Philly? Then oh gosh, I think maybe Douba. Whatever
(12:12):
it may be. Is just it's like, Okay, here we go, man,
let's see how much we can improve at the end
of the year.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
How great do you think the flight home was though
after a win over there compared to a loss, I mean,
going on the bye week, and the guy said, the
twenty four hour rule is not an effect. The twenty
four hour rule is not an effect on bye week.
So just to get to enjoy it like that flight
home had to have been so fun, Jake. We never
(12:40):
did an overseas game, but on long flights home when
you won, Man, the ice cream bars taste better than
ever the card games. The conversation just so happy for
the dang team and for coach Canalis because I mean,
we said over and over again and we've been critical
at times. It's just been a tough start.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Man.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Now I feel like the little momentum is going.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
You know, you just think about the players, the coaches
and things like that, and now you get to kind
of one mentally.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Kind of reset. You know.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Coach Fox was so big on that. He used to
talk about the brain. He goes, Oh, your mind's got
to rest a little bit. You got to just kind
of decompress because your body, you're not going to heal.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
In a week.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
But man, that week off is going to make a
big difference for many because there's so many bumps and
bruises and and things like that. And just to start
to get guys back, you know, Adam Thielen, I believe
they activated him. So I just I'm looking forward to it.
I'm looking forward to how we can you know, come
out of this bye week and how can we finish
because we're going to be tested. Well, let's put some
(13:40):
more good film together and and things like that, and
let's let's let's finish twenty twenty four season in a
good way.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Yeah, seven games left, Jake, six different opponents and like
you said, man, some interesting matchups. But the Chiefs. So
they got the by, we got the buy, and everybody
rest up and all that. The Chiefs are playing a
gigantic game this week, going to play at Buffalo where
they're actually last I read an underdog, which is surprising.
But are we getting the Chiefs like in the most
(14:11):
advantageous position possible? Back to back road games, big hyped
game at Buffalo, win or lose, kind of whatever happens,
you know that all the folks on that and then
just say it, you know, come in to play the
three and seven Panthers. Maybe a little bit of a letdown,
Jake is are they primed for the picking?
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Jordan?
Speaker 2 (14:31):
This is the whole storyline. If they lose this weekend,
it's gonna be the get right game against the Panthers.
If they win this weekend, it's going to be the
trap game against the Panthers. That's what's gonna be written,
that's what's gonna be talked about, and that's exactly how
it's going to be portrayed in the media. And that's
great because you know why, nobody will give us a
chance or anything of that nature. And that's gonna be
(14:53):
you know, the human nature element that comes into it.
And we just gotta lay low in the weeds and
just kind of continue to work, come back healthy, healthy
as possible, fresh as possible, dive into the game plan
and be ready to rock and roll.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
We've got the Chiefs, We've got Tampa Bay twice, Philly away,
Dallas home, Arizona home, and then with Falcons away. So
seven games, Jake, if you were to speculate, what do
you think the winning what do you think the record is.
I'm three and seven, seven to go. What do you
think we're at?
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Jordan, Listen, I'll be honest with you. I think I
said before the season we could pull this up. I
was hoping we could win six or seven games, you know,
and kind of go from there. I still thought this
was a rebuilding year. Things didn't look that promising Forest,
But after these last couple of wins, I'm hoping we
can knock out a couple few more wins.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Jordan. It's gonna be tough.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Tampa's a team that they've had some unfortunate losses, talented
team that's still playing well. Atlanta is a team they'll
be fighting for the division. Dallas has falling on hard
times a little bit. I'm not sure exactly you know
how that's gonna eventually play out.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Who am I missing?
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Philadelphia playing extremely good football right now, really good Arizona,
really really good football, fast, young speed, and then yeah,
just so happened, We're playing a unicorn in Patrick Mahomes
next week. So it's it's a tough task and tough opponents,
but that's what the NFL is, and so looking forward
(16:21):
to seeing this. My big thing is just progress. How
can we keep on progressing? Jalen Kocher keeps making plays,
you know, Jatavian Sanders, I want to see what he
continues to do. I want to see Xavier Leaget. I
want to see Cuba finish strong. How many yards can
Cuba finish with? Does Jonathan Brooks come in to play
a little bit Adam Steeling, Yeah, let's talk.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
Let's talk, you know, because he's activated off I are
and right up against when they would have had to
activate him or else. He stays on IR all of
the year, so I don't think we should expect that
he's gonna you know, and maybe after the bye he'll
be ready to go. But that that the injury from
the Vegas game is still hold on. What do you
think we'll get out of him?
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Well, I think you're gonna get to me everything feeling.
It's one thing to watch him. Okay, so he plays tough,
he plays with an edge. Okay, there's something to him.
But like I watch, I love to watch the sidelines,
especially games that I'm calling. I stay with the binoculars
and I like to see interaction. This guy is so engaged.
I mean he's never not engaged. He's never not talking
(17:21):
to the young guys on the sideline, he's never not
pumping up everybody. I mean, this is a leader of
a football team, a guy that gets it and wants
to compete. And yes, does he have how many years
left does he have? He has certainly not nearly as
many as he's previously had, and he knows that he
embraces it. But man, he's such a leader on this team.
I think you're gonna come and you're gonna see him
(17:42):
help the younger kids continue to progress.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Because of the details that he has exavierly. Get told us.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
We interviewed him after one of the games our player interviews,
and he said, we asked him about, hey, you're starting
to make plays. He goes, Listen, I'm just trying to
get better each week. I'm trying to do the details.
I'm trying to hone in on little details. And Adam
Feeling's one that I watch every day. He doesn't let
any detail go, you know, unnoticed, And that thought, I
thought that was huge and that's great because I think
(18:13):
Feeling that's the.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Legacy you leave behind.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
You're teaching these young kids that in ten years from now,
hopefully you know, feeling can sit back and watch, you know,
these young kids like man, I help those guys at
the beginning, and then those guys can pass it down
to the next generation in a decade from now.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
No, one hundred percent Jake, and I'm excited if and
when we get him back. I just love watching him.
Like you know, you said it all right, one thing,
I didn't want to mention Jake looking. You know, we
got seven games to go, so whatever. But it's the
bye week, so let's look at all this stuff. We're
currently ninth in the draft order, which is just kind
of shocking at three and seven that there's teams, you know.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Teams bump piled up and Jordan.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
You're going to see how things start to separate. I
truly believe that this is the time of year where
I think we all know it.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
Most of the teams were on Jordan. This is when
we made a push.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
You made that run, you got that two Yeah, that
three four week window where you win those games and
start to separate.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
So I think you start to see.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
This, No, absolutely right, I know it's it's been fun,
Jake the mid seed. We're past mid season, but we're
at the bye. So I wanted to ask you who
would be your MVP and that you know that would
be having fun with this. It doesn't have to be
you know, Cuba or maybe it is him some mean
that's had just a lot of success, but so far, like,
(19:31):
who have you really been proud of and enjoyed watching
this year's team?
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Listen?
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Selfishly speaking, I'm gonna stick to the offensive side. I
love seeing the young receivers. But man, the two guard
plays the two guards, you know, I like the two
ones we signed. I thought those two really have come in.
Taylor Moden.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
I hate even saying this.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
I don't want to say I take it for granted,
but gosh, dogg it, he just shows up every week.
You know, yep, you think he would come back, Brady Christiansen,
what he was asked to do and how he's feeling
in kid Mays. But man, Robert Hunt Jordan, if I
had to pick one, I wrote down you jerk. Well, Jordan,
he is a raging Cajun and you know we're just
made different.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Jordan, I don't know'st pro football focused player on our team.
If that means anything.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
It means absolutely nothing to me.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
To be quiet and then you bring it up, like
when it's when it's favorable, you.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Bring it up.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
All I know is that I watch him move people
out the way, I watch him pull, I'll watch him celebrate.
I watched the winning kick that we had two weeks
ago against the Saints. I watch him sprint. I'm sorry,
the touchdown run when Chubu scored one of the runs
at the touchdown run to take the lead at the end,
I watched him like just sprint.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
All the way around the field.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Just he's got that infectious enthusiasm and he brings an
edge when he plays and plays hard and he just
seems like, you know, he's just been a great locker
room guy.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
What a great signing that Dan did.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Oh and as advertised, and worth the money.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Obviously, Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Now it's been fun. All right, what are your bye
week plans?
Speaker 3 (21:07):
Jay?
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Before we sign off?
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Well, Jordan, I'll be quite honest with you, a little
nervous right now. We're as we're recording this on Thursday,
we're in the quarterfinals for the State Volleyball State Championships.
And we play tonight at six ten pm Central Standard time,
and so everything is in it's actually in Lafayette in
our the dome that we have here, the Cajun Dome
(21:31):
it's called, and.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
It started this morning, matter of fact.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
So there's three games going on, the quarterfinals of today,
the semifinals.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Of tomorrow, and the finals are Saturday. So we're the sixty.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
We're playing a you know, a team that we have
a long history with tonight, so gonna be a tough matchup.
I think our girls are ready to play. And so
that's the play in Jordan, and hopefully I have to
go to a volleyball game on tomorrow and the finals
on Saturday, so that is where my main focus is at.
We had play games last weekend we were able to
win to advance to this point. So yeah, Jordan, that's
(22:05):
that's that's the plan, man, how about you?
Speaker 1 (22:08):
No, that sounds like a great weekend. I'm actually accompanying
one of my players on a we're going down to
usc to watch the game against Nebraska. They're recruiting him.
I'm gonna go connect with Khalil and so yeah, that'll
be fun. So a lot low stress in my world.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
But I'm gonna have a good time with this, so
we'll definitely enjoyed, man, all right, we will.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Hey, we'll talk about the Chiefs again next week. And see,
I bet we're still three and seven, but they may
have won, er they may have lost. See if it's
a track game.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
Or get right, that's exactly right.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
All right, good luck, buddy, see it.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
Thank you man, thank you.
