Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome to NFL Daily, where it's okay to drink guinness
in the morning.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I am Greg.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Rosenthal and I'm here at Kennedy's in Dublin with my
friends from The Ringer Fantasy Football Show, Danny Hifitz, Danny
Kelly and Craig horroorback the secret weapon of the show. Look,
you guys are like a one to one, you know,
replacement for Cynthia Freelan on The Usual Pick Show.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Good to have you on.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Absolutely, it's our honor. Thank you very much for having us.
The guinness is are flowing, Greg, thank you.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
For having us combined are as smart as Cynthia.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
I don't know why I called Craig like the secret
weapon right off the top. My sewing division between the
three of you, like what you're doing, so you know
we want now. I hope Craig is cool with me
because we just did The Ringer Fantasy Football Show.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Everyone should listen.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
It's one of the best podcasts sports podcast point blank.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
And I joined them this week.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
And I hope you didn't mind, because I found myself
I was like staring at Craig just because of how
we're seated, like in the eyes, and it was like
it was like a lot of eye contact throughout the
show between me and Craig.
Speaker 5 (01:10):
No, I loved it.
Speaker 6 (01:11):
Danny Kelly never looks at me, so that was really nice.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
All the YouTube comments are just just everyone's like, wow,
Craig's the hot one, and like, yeah, we've recently learned
getting mogging.
Speaker 7 (01:21):
Yeah we're getting mogged.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
What is that?
Speaker 4 (01:23):
No, mogging is when there's you have one friend is
way hotter than your other friends and all the photos
you're getting mogged beause no one's looking at you in
the photos. Like, if you have a photo Craig, you
can't put it on your hinge because then everyone's.
Speaker 6 (01:33):
Like, Oh, I'm okay, relaxed.
Speaker 7 (01:34):
We could move on. Everyone come yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
It's a very like how do you do fellow kids
moment for me.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
So we are here and I mentioned Guinnis shout out
to Robert, the proprietor of Kennedy's not at the scene,
not Robert Kennedy. We got here a little before ten
thirty in the morning. The place was locked up at
this point because the Ringer Fantasy Football so shut it
down to begin We never last as I walk up
(02:01):
like Steelers fans are waiting in line to get in.
One of them asked me if my black and yellow
shoes like were bought purposefully for the Steelers.
Speaker 7 (02:12):
No they're not.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
I'm actually anti Steelers this week, at least in terms
of picking the Vikings. But this place started filling up
pretty early, and like it's rocking out there, like at noon.
Speaker 7 (02:25):
The Ryder Cup.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
People are going crazy for the Ryder Cup right now,
and then also just obviously the game. Like I actually
am shocked just being in Dublin, Like I actually can't
believe how many Steelers fans are here, like I actually
they are. Literally there are more Steelers fans than regular
people who live in Dublin.
Speaker 7 (02:41):
I think.
Speaker 6 (02:41):
Yeah, on my travels over here, I saw I saw
zero Minnesota Vikings fans. My life was zero eighty percent
people wearing Steelers gear.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Zero Vikings fans.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
It has a super Bowl field and a super Bowl
in a smaller city like New Orleans, where in London
it's great, but it's still London.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
You know, there's a million bars here.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
There's Steelers everywhere, and this is a Steelers bar, so
it's self selecting. But when I got out at my hotel,
there were twenty Steelers fans just out and about. I
have a friend from work who said they went to
a bar the other night and Jason Kelsey is just
by himself at the bar drinking a beer. They're like, yeah, hey,
Jason Kelce and I'd seen like a Taylor walking around
and the whole thing. It feels awesome. Honestly, it feels
(03:27):
like sort of like a football on the round. We're
gonna get to the picks. We're just kind of trying
to set the scene. Do you have any other Dublin takes?
I know we're pretty soon off the plane.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Oh no, I mean I think we all got to
experience the Ireland, the real Ireland Guinness Taste tests last night,
which was great. It does taste better here in Ireland.
I think we can all attest to that. But yeah,
the vibes are amazing. The vibes are really good. Like
you said, it kind of does have the super Bowl
feel where it's a couple of days leading up to
the Super Bowl when you're in that town, are just
(03:56):
the vibes like party vibes. It's everyone's having a good time,
you know, even if you see it people from other teams,
you're ribbing each other or whatever, and so yeah, it's
really good.
Speaker 5 (04:03):
But I haven't seen any Vikings fans yet.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
I did see one, so I do want to and
we all screamed at him get out of here.
Speaker 8 (04:10):
I really can't stress so many Steelers fans are here.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Like the last we went to the Chiefs by the
three peet with the Super Bowl, I think a lot
of the Chiefs fans who wanted to go to a
super Bowl and could afford it had already done it.
Speaker 7 (04:19):
There are so many, like hard to.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Describe how many more Steelers fans are here now than
there were Chiefs fans for the last Super Bowl that
I saw walking on New Orleans.
Speaker 7 (04:26):
Like it's even close.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
It's basically all terrible towels and Gavin for president signs.
I'm just seeing that, which is not Will Gavin, who
will be hosting, by the way, the game. If you
happen to be overseas and listening on the radio, I
will be doing the game with Will Gavin on talkSPORT Radio.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
So check that out.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
All right, We're going to get to the Picks weekly
pick show. Cynthia and I struggled last week because you
guys are here. I'm not going to bore you and
go over what our picks were that we were right
and wrong about last week.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Although I did have the worst beat of the year
in that Rams game.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
We had that too.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Yeah, I just missed the kick you cover.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
So we'll go over all the records next week when
we have Cynthia back on. But I do have her
picks because I know the fans are interested in what
her computer model has to say, so I'll sprinkle those
in because we agree on a couple. The way I
decided to do it is I still have my usual
three picks, and you guys have one pick each, like
your favorite pick. Hopefully we have some differences here. Let's
(05:24):
start with with Danny hyphens.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
This is really boring, but I'm doing the Chargers giving
six and a half to the Giants.
Speaker 8 (05:31):
I'm sorry, I know that's really boring.
Speaker 5 (05:33):
Since I'm a Giants fan.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
This is I'm so lame, dude.
Speaker 7 (05:36):
I'm a Giants fan.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
I believe in Jackson Dart, but like, this is a
really hard way to start, man. Like, the Chargers are
three to zero first time since two thos and two,
and the defense with Jesse Minner the defensive coordinator is
doing an unbelievable Greg's just shaking his head like.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
That, because you are one of my favorite hosts in
all of podcasting.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
I'm a huge fan.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
You have been on the show before, so at least
it's not your first time. But to come on this
show and make some argument because you're in your feelings
about the Giants and you want to like feel good
if they don't cover, it's just like.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
To be clear, No, to be clear, I'm setting myself
the Giants can lose by like four, and then I
don't I missed the bet and the Giants still lose
the game.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
I just that's the worst feeling before I know.
Speaker 8 (06:19):
I just think, I know, But it's fundamentally it's just
I think basically this is in.
Speaker 5 (06:22):
His hedging era, you know, But Travis Hunter, now this.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I feel like mentally we're still not counting Herbert like
he's as good as Josha Lamar because we haven't seen
it in the playoffs. But I would think this season,
I don't think it's controversial to say Herbert's playing that well, right.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
No, it's not.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
It's Herbert playing versus a rookie quarterback making his first
career start. It was week one, we wouldn't blink about
pulling trigger on a touchdown.
Speaker 7 (06:44):
Favorite.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
The flip side is the Charges defense is the best
defense in the NFL and success rate this season.
Speaker 7 (06:48):
So I'm like, what I don't like? Am I really?
Speaker 1 (06:51):
I know it's I think you're a little crazy. I'm
on the Giants on this side. I actually thought about
going Giants as one of my three favorite picks.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
That felt a little too crazy for me.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
But if I had to pick, I'm on the Giants
because week one, You're right, but Russell Wilson would have
been starting and maybe I'm crazy, and we talked about
it on your show, Guy.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
I think Jackson.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Dart will be an upgrade overall from Russell Wilson.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
I mean, he's certainly going to elevate when you look
at the Russell Wilson offense, Like we've talked about this
for years, it's basically like deep shots to the sideline
or dump offs and Jackson Jackson Dart can come in
open up the entire middle of the field. I think
he's really confident throwing down the seams. That was one
of the things that you notice about his college tape
is like the first off pushing the ball down the
(07:32):
field aggressively. Second of all, he's good against pressure, and
that was like one of the main selling points I
think with him coming out of the college because obviously,
you know, playing in.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
That off takes, he's got a little bit of a
Ryan Tannehill got there and gets totally blasted.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Yeah, he's willing to stare down the gun barrel. So yeah,
I still disappointed. I actually think what Hyfez did is rational.
I would pick the Chargers in this one too.
Speaker 6 (07:57):
First start rational.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
It's the biggest quarterback to spirit of the week, and
it's it's a very complicated defense that I.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Only feel comfortable being disappointed because I care, because I
think and maybe this is you know, me trying to
just like you know, Son, you here, you know that
like the worst, the worst for doing this, working in
this business is to pick against your own team. And
then you're watching Jackson dar in what's gonna be a
(08:26):
seminal moment of his career, maybe of Brian Dables career
of the Giants, and he plays his ass off, maybe
he loses a close game, maybe he goes out there
and wins the game, and in that moment of total
Giants fan ecstasy, and you've been wanting those moments. You
have to think in that Oh man, I went I
went charge I lost my bag. Yeah, it's like I
(08:47):
went Chargers minus.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
This is this is so good because.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
Okay, I bet on the I bet on the Patriots
to beat the Giants in both Super Bowls because I figured.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
That I'll it didn't hurt that at all.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Maybe we're wired differently because I would always be annoyed.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Just pick what you want to happen.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
Anyway, that's spoken like a Patriots fan who got I know,
you're like.
Speaker 6 (09:09):
A charmed shifting back towards Hez.
Speaker 7 (09:13):
And this is because I do.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
I do believe in the emotional.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
He How many championships did you see to your professional
teams in the twenty first century fourteen?
Speaker 2 (09:21):
A lot of a lot of championships every other year.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
The first Super Bowl I ever went to cover was
the Giants beating the Patriots in their first Super Bowl,
ending the undefeated season.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
It actually was better, I think in person.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
You didn't realize how devastating a moment that was until
you started seeing like the highlights and everything. But three
and three in person as a fan for the Patriots.
But yeah, it's been I hear what you're saying. Maybe
it is Patriots privilege.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
I have a three.
Speaker 9 (09:47):
Supposed to make us feel bad? Three only three super Bowl. Yeah,
I want to interject real quick though.
Speaker 7 (09:58):
He's right, I'm a coward.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
No, here's the deal. It's a long time standing joke
between Heifetz and I. I've worked with Heifen since twenty sixteen.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Right in all that time, I think he's rooted for
his team to win, like one game, the one playoff game.
Otherwise he's like, I want him to lose, get a
better draft pick, Like he's never gotten to root for
his team, Giants, Why are you so fraid.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
To like finally jump on the bandwagon.
Speaker 7 (10:23):
I just they're throwing dart like he's.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
Rooting for them to lose traditionally.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
But what Greg was saying is like evenay away though,
just like you could have picked different games.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Literally, we're picking one.
Speaker 6 (10:35):
Game strongly over all the other games.
Speaker 7 (10:37):
That's fair, and yet here I am.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
And I'm excited.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
I am on record now saying a four point game
that I think Brian dave All is going to be rejuvenated.
He's building the offense around him. The Chargers haven't seen it.
I did think the offensive line for the Chargers did
not play that well last week, granted against Denver, but
Herbert under a lot of pressure, and that this front
will make it a fun game. So I think it'll
be fun. I'm gonna stay with the Jets. We'll go
(11:01):
back and forth between you guys and me, and Cynthia
is on the same side of me. We don't usually
have the same picks, but we picked separately this week.
We are both on the Jets plus two and a
half in Miami, and I could break down how the
Dolphins are investing all this money in the pass rush
and they're not getting anything upfront, and actually the Jets
(11:24):
offensive line is where their strength is. I could get
into how you know Tua at the end of games
is just fritzeing out and weirdly TNF I think we'll
look back on as a high point. But it's really
more based on vibes for me that I think the
Jets right now are a better organization than the Dolphins,
(11:46):
which seems crazy to say, and that the press conferences
since the Dolphins won that game have been so concerning
and some of the reporting coming out that I actually
think even though it was close, and from the outside
everyone was like, oh good, good, try Miami, you got close.
Like the aftermath of that game, it seems like everyone
is pulling in different directions and their source offs, and
(12:09):
Tua is like yelling at the press and like, I
think he might have taken a shot at Ben Solac
even though the question.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
Really did you guys see though our buddy's Ben? How
dare him Okay?
Speaker 1 (12:21):
So they asked him a question how Cam Newton criticized
to a tongue of Ilois specifically, and he did mention
the name Cam in his answer, but it was almost
like he had a pre planned answer for this and
he went through and and his answer was like it's
really easy to say if you haven't played, and that
you're sitting there with a clicker, what's right to do?
(12:43):
And I'm thinking, like there was a few people like that,
but I feel like Solac was the most prominent.
Speaker 8 (12:49):
Maybe he was the almost positive Camp played too.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
That's what I mean.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
So that's he had this answer and he's talking about
the Solax and some of the other people that are
killing his decision making.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Uh So it's more of a vibe off for me.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
That.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
I just think this is the Jets chance to go
win a game.
Speaker 6 (13:04):
Miami shouldn't be favored against anybody.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
Well, honestly, who's the starting quarterback this week? It's looking
like it's.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Gonna be Fields Fields practice. Fully, as of this Tapeian
Aaron Glenn did not answer the g about it, right, Yeah,
I think that's him like trying to make them prep
for two. I don't know that it's a huge difference
in terms of who I think would win the game,
Like the approach would be different, but either way, I
would like the Jets chances.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
I think I like this too. I had this in mind.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
It wasn't one of my picks, but I thought about it,
and it's It's the same deal with with Tuah. For
the last few years, the offense was very specific. I
even make jokes sometimes like two is the MVP actually
because the offense completely falls apart and can't do anything.
Speaker 10 (13:49):
It's it's in terms of like, to be clear, I'm
being sarcastic, but like when two is in there, the
offense that they have designed right now is that he's
the only one that can make it work. But now,
and it's so predicated on hitting his back foot getting
the ball out, Like quick reactions, decisive throws over the
middle of field, those kind of things. Now teams are
(14:10):
starting to figure out how to kind of like muddy
the muddy what he's seeing over the middle of field,
not let him get rid of the ball so quickly
and after like one second he can't do anything.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
And also it feels like the opposite now where I
almost think if you could get anybody else in this offense,
I'm like, if you can just found that Zach Wilson,
Like if you can get mac Jones in there, I
think this Dolphins offense could be good. Two is once
again he's a noodle arm, Like he's not able to
make these throws down the field anymore. Like the velocity
on his on the football is gone. Tyreek is once
again back to fielding punts down the field.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
It turns around and waits for the ball. It really
does look like special teams. I will say, you're right.
The thing about two is the other one can make
the offense work. I think it's the same way like
I'm the only one who can find stuff that I
lose in my apartment.
Speaker 7 (14:53):
Because that's not a good system. It's a mess.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
And it's a really bad system and I'm the only
one who can fight it because it's catered to me,
and the Dolphins cater to This system just works for
him with a battle line and the fastest receivers in
the NFL, and when at the fastest, when they were
at one hundredth percentile speed and agility from Tyreek and
the like, suddenly like, oh, the whole thing falls apart.
Speaker 7 (15:12):
That's a bad system.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
And we bagged on the Dolphins a decent amount on
our previous show, so I don't want to repeat myself,
but there was this segment of Tom Pelisaro in his
car on The Rich Eisen Show where he kind of
went through the limitations that Tua constricts on a play
caller and why it makes it so tough. And I'm like,
are the Dolphins coaches or coach bearing Tua, because all
(15:36):
respect to Tom Pelisaro, he's not coming up with these takes.
That's a bad sign. And then Tua was so unhappy
in that press conference. He is reading all the comments
and one of the questions they asked to him was,
what's the difference between you and you back in college.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
He's like, well, you know, the surgery is on my ankle.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
You know, I'm just not I just don't move as
I'm like this this sucks.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
I'm going Jets.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
I was like, the Jets actually aren't that good at
the defense, and it could be kind of a sneaky,
fun fantasy game where they score a lot of points.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
But I ultimately think the Jets make enough wine.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Winning makes everything better, Losing makes everything worse, and the
Jets have a newer voice.
Speaker 7 (16:10):
But McDaniel, it's like.
Speaker 4 (16:12):
He's done because he got two with a contract. He's
going to be the one kicked out. Chris Ko has
been there twenty five years.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
When you're basing a selection on vibes and you pick
the Jets, you know it's bad.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
That's why he's the secret weapon. All right, let's go
to craigspicked.
Speaker 6 (16:24):
I'm taking the Bears plus one against the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Interesting.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
I like it.
Speaker 6 (16:29):
This game's in Vegas. I think Vegas is a little
bit of a disaster right now. I think that it's
not working. Early on, they cannot run the ball. Ashton
genty has one hundred and forty four rushing yards. One
hundred and forty five of them come after contact, which
doesn't make any sense. Gino has been turning over the
ball a ton, and I do think what we saw
out of Caleb, albeit it was against Dallas and Dallas
(16:52):
is making everybody look good right now. I think Caleb
is a momentum quarterback. I think he is somebody where
once things start clicking, I think things will can that way.
I think he's gonna have like a positive snowball effect
of his game. And I think the Raiders defense is
a perfect follow up to Dallas and then getting points.
I was a little surprised that, to be honest, and
I believe in Ben Johnson scheming up all these open
(17:12):
red receivers and I think Caleb.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
Can hit them.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
I'm not necessarily the biggest Caleb guy in the world. However,
I do think what I saw last week against Dallas
is replicable against Vegas.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
I agree.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
I think Bears against a team that doesn't have a
good pass rush is a great recipe because some of
those plays last week with Caleb, he just had all
the time in the world for someone to undercover.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
They ran an eight second fleet flicker you know, and.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
Flicker you've ever seen slow motions, and he made a
couple plays there was one where the pressure got to
him right away, where where just his instincts. And that's
where I agree with you that he can be a
confidence player where when it starts rolling downhill, and I
think the Raiders will give him that confidence because they
don't have a pass rush. The Lions really didn't have
that much of a pass rush. And week two against him,
(18:01):
last week, same thing. I do want to ask you,
Craig though, because I you were going to ask about Gent,
I thought on your show, what is your feeling about
gent right now?
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Well?
Speaker 6 (18:11):
I think the vibes around him are actually pretty bad.
And I it's odd because I think when the ball
is in his hands, he looks great. But I think
when the ball is not in his hands and he's
on the field, things are weird. I think the past
protection stuff with him is a little odd, considering that
was what we thought was a strength coming out of college,
or at least he was capable.
Speaker 5 (18:29):
Well, they're not even using him in like the two
minute drove.
Speaker 6 (18:31):
No Dylan likes to say his name, Lobby Louby is
playing in the two minute drill against the guy that
took six overall in the draft.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
I think that's very bizarre low. We didn't even play
last year.
Speaker 6 (18:40):
I just think it's a bad sign that there's already
there's like every press conference now with him is about like, hey,
Ryan Clark said this thing about you, like how do
you feel about that? And he's like, well, I'm not
trying to like listen to anybody in the media. I'm
just trying to like focus on my game. And they're
not giving him that many touches. I think as a
talent on the field, he's great, And I think it's
just a sign generally that like if you're a bad
team and you have a bad offensive line, you should
(19:01):
not be drafting a running back.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
They're they're a terrible offensive line.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
I'm with you. He made a couple of people miss
last week. He still got the broke yards after contract.
Speaker 6 (19:11):
Awesome.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
He's a little bit And I heard.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
You guys talking about this with Derrick Henry that like
if he doesn't get a good runway like he'll kind
of stop his seat.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
And then get toppled over. What did you guys get.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
Getting tackled at the line of scrimmage looks like the
statue of Saddam falling over, Like if he gets hit
before the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
He just toppled, square, bangled or tied kind of like
a completely different body type. But I think Jens has
a little bit of that too, and they are right
now along with the.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
Bengals body type of no, I mean actually.
Speaker 6 (19:48):
Have a similar box.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Actually he was low to the ground and kind of
like thicking. I think he would be a decent running back.
Saddam Hussein new sentence. JEDD's vision has been like a
little off here and there where, like there has been
a cutback lane to hit. But last week, actually I
thought he ran well and had a good couple cutbacks.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
So I'm was six.
Speaker 5 (20:10):
Six to two, so was wow. Unity his name out
of your mouth.
Speaker 9 (20:13):
Here.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
Here's one thing that I want to say about forty
times we were talking about vibes.
Speaker 7 (20:18):
Greg's like I'm gonna get fired.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
The Guinness is showing off here one and a half Gunnis,
that's all the one we were talking about vibes of
the last game. This game, I think the Raiders vibes
after having the best offseason of any team, like in
terms of vibes, like raising the floor. We got adults
in charge now like they got genty they have this
exciting new thing like Pete.
Speaker 5 (20:39):
Carroll, it feels weird. The vibes are atrocious right now.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
And you know who the the escapegoat is right now,
Tom Brady, Brennan Carroll, Pete Carroll's son. Why who is
the offensive line coach? And there's no that is the
fans are turning to say that.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Unfair because they have almost the exact same offensive line
as the previous two seasons, especially last year, and they
played like they punched above their weight last year where
everyone was like, oh wow, they're greater than the some
of their parts offensive line.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Now it's like Colton Miller and four negatives.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
So and I'm with you, and they moved guys around
off their original like positions to try and like find
the best five and so.
Speaker 5 (21:15):
Now that like because there is no yardage available for
ext year.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
I think Gino's played pretty well, except for that Chargers game,
which was his worst start since you know, getting the
starting job in Seattle. I know not many people watch
that Washington game, but he was under siege and actually
I thought I played pretty well overall. I'm going to
go and this is the second pick with both me
(21:41):
and Cynthia and her computer model are agreeing not only
in terms of who's on the same side, but that
these are our favorite confidence picks of the week, which
is Packers minus seven.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
I love this.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
I love the fact that the Packers lost last week.
I'm surprised that this number is not like ten and
a half. I think the gap between the Packers and
this Cowboys team without c. D. Lamb and the two
offensive linemen is as big as Bill Saints. Like I'm
not saying the line needs to be that big because
(22:16):
Dak Prescott's involved and like, but it could be double
digit points and I still would be into that, like
if you wanted to move the line, Like I feel
like the over under on Packers scoring is thirty five.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
This was gonna be my pick too. I can come
up with another one, but like, I like this one
a lot too. The Packers have one of the best defense.
They have the number one rated defense in DV AWAY,
and they're good on offense. They are just such a
complete team. There was a reason people were talking about them,
you know before this, like last week against the Browns
where they kind of collapse, as you know, potentially going undefeated,
(22:50):
super Bowl type team like the vibes are incredible.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
They're very good on both sides of the ball.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
They're the type of team that can beat you in
so many different ways too, whether it's Jordan Love, whether
it's a pass rush, whether it's you know, game. I
think it all makes sense. And with a very injured
pack Cowboys team, that's an easy pick.
Speaker 6 (23:07):
I think there's a lot of things in retrospect that
look really good now for Green Bay. Like now that
win against Detroit. Everybody after that game was like, well,
Detroit's a different team. Now, maybe they're not as good.
Seeing Detroit rebound a little bit and we're actually like, oh,
Detroit might be one of the best teams in the NFC. Again,
Packers winning twenty seven to thirteen in that game looks
really good. And even I mean this loss to the Browns,
I agree with you Greg that it's a perfect timing
(23:28):
for the Packers and then come in and kick the
shit out of the Cowboys in this game. Terrible luck
for the Cowboys to face the Packers after this loss.
But also the Browns defense. Once, when we look back
on this season in retrospect, that ten to thirteen loss,
we're going to say the Browns defense actually might be
one of the best defense in the league. Again, So
I think you can look at every game the Packers
have played this season and they look even better now,
even though it's only been three weeks.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
I mean, also, when was the last time the Packers
played it? When was less than the Cowboys gave the
Packers a competitive game? That's what that des caught it
game those like ten years ago. I mean number one.
I don't know if we even want to go under
the analogy we have for the Cowboys defense. I feel
like this is a family friendly show.
Speaker 6 (24:03):
But the Motor Kart Rainbow strip, perhaps the Mario Yeah,
that's kid friendly.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (24:09):
You ever play Mario Kart the rainbow turbo strip. You
hit that, you go ten times as fast that. Okay,
Cowboys defense this.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Year defense they have no pass rush and they have
no cornerbacks. That's a pretty bad combo. It's Russell. As
we just said on our shirt, Russell Wilson threw for
four hundred and fifty four yards, brought him in overtime
that career. Like Kayler Williams just said the best game
of his career against Mattie Refluce, the Cowboy's defensive coordinator
who should have done Kayla better than anyone cow that
they have no cornerbacks even I don't care if Ravon,
DAGs and Drahn planned end up playing in this game,
(24:36):
like they're not healthy. Like the Cowboys literally are running
out of cornerbacks. They have no pass rushers. Who are
the Cowboys best three players of this game? Dak, Prescott,
Tyler Smith? Who's the third?
Speaker 6 (24:46):
Like?
Speaker 7 (24:46):
Who who's playing in this game?
Speaker 2 (24:48):
George Pickens, Pickens? It's like it's George Pickens time, just.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
Exactly.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
No.
Speaker 7 (24:56):
I think this is always that if.
Speaker 6 (24:57):
You ask George Pickens, hey, you could lose by tw
but you have one hundred and eighty yards and two touchdowns,
or you win by a point. Don't catch you pass?
Speaker 5 (25:04):
What happened?
Speaker 7 (25:04):
What does he pick?
Speaker 5 (25:05):
I think it's obvious guarantee.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
I think Dak is top five quarterbacks in the league
right now, So I am fascinated to see that matchup.
They like, Jeff Halfley's very creative, and I think they're
gonna come up with special ways to get Micah Parsons
in one on one situations with some of these backups
on the inside.
Speaker 7 (25:23):
Which one there's multiple right, like Cooper.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
BB's out and Tyler Booker is out, and so Tac
Prescott's one of the few quarterbacks, even shorthanded, that I
think could make this entertaining to the point that it's
forty to twenty five.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
But I just think on the other side, like they're just.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
Not going to be able to keep up ultimately.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
Green Bay first two weeks of the season, small sample,
but they were pushing the ball downfield as much as anyone,
and they didn't do that against the Browns. But the
Cowbagye defense is allowing nine yards per attempt nine, they're
first down needs ten, they're allowing nine yards.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
Right.
Speaker 6 (25:54):
It can't be overstated that Russell Wilson threw for four
hundred and fifty yards against the Cowboys, the second most
of his career, and then seven days later bought.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
Him one week hit the goalpost twice the.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Ultimate and you know sign of like how bad this
Cowboys defense is also the matchup of Lafleur versus eber Flues,
like Bears fans and Packers fans can remember very well,
and Matt Eberflus is just running out the same old
stuff like you can give him, like the really expensive
shave and the new haircut, but like you're still run
it out that like nineteen ninety five defense.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
So well, it's just that it's the same problem as
the last Cowboys defensive quator, Mike Zimmer, who was running
things that weren't stop working three years earlier. He brought
him back three years later. It's the thing with the Cowboys.
Their ideas are from thirty years ago. Jerry Jones older
than Joe Biden. It's like that logic all the way down.
I'm just saying, like everyone is out of date with
the ideas.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
I'm really I'm really big on the Packers.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
We are going to do a power rank like segment
on tomorrow's show with Michael McQuaid of Pro Football Ireland,
and look, the Packers are going to be very high there. Okay,
so we all agree on the Packers DK. I'm making
you pivot now.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
Wait, so can we talk about the game that's happening
in Ireland or is that?
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Yeah, that's good, it's a good idea.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
I'm going to go against my two colleagues here. We
actually picked the Steelers in the when we.
Speaker 5 (27:11):
Do our picks in this game, but I wanted to
pick the Vikings in this one.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
I think the so what is the Steelers it's up
to two and a half? Like you're giving too, I
mean the public or on the Vikings as well.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
I just think the Vikings defense is one of the
best defenses in the NFL. Number two in defensive DVAWA.
They have an excellent pass rush. As you know, Brian
Flores likes to mix things up and the blitz packages.
They're blitzing a ton, just making lives difficult for opposing
quarterbacks and we have on recent history of him doing
that against Aaron Rodgers. So I think this is going
(27:44):
to be an ugly game, a back and forth game,
lots of turnovers, but ultimately I think the Vikings defense
is gonna be the difference.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
It makes sense on paper, I mean, at the end
of the day the Vikings coming up a forty eight
to ten win. But I just overall, and like in theory,
it's like the Steelers all they do is let teams
move the ball on them. But I'm like, at the
end of the day, I don't think in a game
where everyone's going to Europe, Carson Wentz is going to
move the ball on the Steelers defense consistently.
Speaker 8 (28:05):
And it's funny because it's cliche, but it's true.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
The Mike Tomlin games, the'se like ugly muck him up games,
kind of like how the Steelks don't play normal games.
Speaker 7 (28:10):
I don't think the Aaron Rodgers Tomlin teams play normal games.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
And I do think this is going to be close
to the fourth quarter and it's gonna be Carson Wentz
versus Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
And Carson Wentz versus t J.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Watt and State Herbig and Cam Hayros Carmon back like
they should get better on defense and they should signs
last week, and.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
Don't forget this game is eighty to ninety percent Steelers fans.
The people in the is gonna be.
Speaker 7 (28:34):
They're gonna play renegade.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
People are gonna go crazy game, but don't okay, So
to me, it feels a little bit like one of
those games where a few big momentum shifting defensive plays
or special teams.
Speaker 8 (28:45):
Like hypothetical gang Cale jumping a screen for a pick.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
Things like that, and I have more faith in the
Vikings defense to do that.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
I can imagine Carson Wentz on one play like seeing
his first reads not open. Herbig is screaming around the
left side, so he panics. He starts running the other
way and like cam Ward Kim Hayward just blastom. The
ball flies off and they turn it for like a
fumble return by Patrick Queen.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
And that's the big play.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
Because my head agrees with you, but there is something yeah, yeah,
well in the air here you got Dan Rooney looking
down on him, the ambassador.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
You're not gonna let the steamer?
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Can I just make one caveat if Carson Wentz tries
to throw a pass with his left hand, this over
bets off.
Speaker 7 (29:29):
We need we need a cash out option.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
To your point, I think this is a game that
not only the students are losing half time. I think
they're losing through three quarters. Coaching I think will dominate
for three quarters. The fourth quarter, it's going to be
the players, Roger Rogers versus Wentz. And I'm like, in
the fourth quarter, in that moment, as long as the
one score game, I just think that's the great.
Speaker 6 (29:46):
How much were you rooting for Rogers to stay healthy
last week? Because my lord, if he had gotten hurt,
Wentz first.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
Rudolph and we were, oh man, it's a good call.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
I was torn because it was the Patriots going against them,
But I also wanted like the two and one matchup
versus two and one, it would have been Mason Rudolph
versus Carson Wentz, which just like, is not fun.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Not fun.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
I don't want to send the watch Mason Rudolph Lord Wentz.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
All right, I'm with you on that one. All right,
let's wrap my picks.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
So Cynthia's third pick, by the way, the Washington Commanders,
who we were both on last week and they did
wind up covering. She has them as a road favorite
in Atlanta. It's a one and a half point favorite.
Their defense has been a lot better this year. I
think it's slipped a little under the radar. It has
been against bad opponents, but you got like Dorn's Armstrong
(30:38):
leading the league in pressures and their team, I think
leading the league in pressure rate, and it's going up
against the Falcons that that has a lot of problems.
My final pick, though, is a little spicier. I like
the Jags plus three and a half. Yeah, in San Francisco.
I actually kind of liked them to go and just
win this game straight up. You like their defense a
(30:58):
lot right into that, Yeah, if you they have really
good players and Campaneely you didn't know anything about him.
He's the defensive coordinator coming into this, but he came
from Green Bay and they're just in that new world
where they're showing all the disguises and it seems like
it's working. And Trayvon Walker is a lot better than
he used to be in hind Z Allen is really good,
and Jordan Lewis is like another ex Cowboy defender that's
(31:22):
playing much better away. Toren Armstrong is another one that
I just mentioned, like he's playing well. I just think
that forty nine ers have a lot of injuries and
they've been skating by a little bit with these lucky games.
Speaker 6 (31:31):
Yeah, Traymon Walker working out is funny. I feel like
he was considered such a.
Speaker 8 (31:35):
Bus for so well.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
I think it's just like a comparison. It's not like
he's been bad. He just Aiden Hutchinson was. It was
the choice between him and Aiden Hutchinson, right and Hutchinson.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
And that still looks bad.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
But Hutchet, if Walker was the seventh pick in the draft,
he'd be like great, Right, He's a.
Speaker 8 (31:50):
Plus hundred percent total dictations minus reality.
Speaker 6 (31:53):
Andrew Wiggins, It's like what Andrew Wigins worked out as
he's actually like a very solid role player, but he
was pegged as like Canadian Michael Jordan, and you know
he obviously wasn't that.
Speaker 7 (32:01):
And to your point about the coordinator thing, I don't
know if you feel this way.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
I think one of the hardest parts of the job
is not just offense but defense, trying to figure out
which coordinators are going to work out in new spots
because you can find the system, but it's not just
bringing a systems. Are you able to coach it and
teach it to the players, Like that's completely different than
just knowing a system yourself, And you don't know, how
do you know if someone's a good teacher or not.
It's just hard to figure out. But you're right like
the Jags defense that there is a lot of talent
on that that has been used poorly. So I do
(32:24):
think that raising the floor. And again, whatever the quarterback
situation to be for the Niners this week, like they
have a lot of holes too.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
It sounds like it's pretty as we're taping this, hopefully
Pierce all gets back at practice.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
He finished out last week's game.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
So I would thank you, okay, and they get a
couple players back to Marcus Robinson is off suspension, but
on defense they're a little banged up there, and in general,
I just feel like three and a half points is
what does it? They call the extra half point the hook,
and like that does hook me? I think they've been
(32:58):
slightly better if you look at overall team DVOA, this
is actually a really good game. It's the number nine
team in the league, the forty nine ers versus the
number ten team, And that's what the Jaguars have looked
like to my eye, Like they kind.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Of look like a sixth seed to me.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
And Trevor Lawrence is still missing a lot of throws
and they're figuring out Hunter, but they looked well coached.
We just talked about like the Raiders and Brendan Carer,
Like their offensive line is moving people, they're protecting Lawrence,
like the plays seem like they make sense to me.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Devin Lloyd is like playing really well. I just I
just kind of like them. I think it Lawrence and
Brent Thomas, and that's that's annoying.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Well, yeah, because I was gonna say Hunter from a
fantasy point of view, which is like what we focus
on primarily it's like the Jags have been a mess
just from fantasy point of view. Brian Thomas one of
the biggest disappointments so far.
Speaker 6 (33:44):
You have to create the blame pie charge for Brian Thomas,
who absorbs most of the responsibility.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
It seems like it's mostly Brian Thomas. Yeah, but maybe them.
Jordan Rodrieg talked about on our show this week a
little bit Liam Cohen trying to fit him into some
prototype that he's not, you know, like this outside like
Cooper cup type, Robert Woods receiver.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
It's like like, like that's not who he is. And
maybe he's just like thinking too much.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
But going back to training camp, apparently he was having
all these drops and all these.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Struggles and him being in.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
But he's open and like the Diami Brown's open, although
he might be hurt for this game, like Brenton Strange
is good, Like Parker Washington's open.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
Parkara Washington, I had an intrusive thought last week. I
was like just watching again, like Parker Washington is the
best receiver last year.
Speaker 5 (34:36):
I don't be.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
So I am.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
I'm buying the Jaguars. The three and a half points
is enough. We did everyone right, we did every pick.
We got through all of Cynthia's picks. Again, she has
the Jets and the Packers Jets plus two and a half.
I am the Packers minus seven along with Cynthia, so
we agree there we have the same picks. She has
the Commander's minus one and a half. I also threw
in the Jaguars plus three and a half DK you
(35:01):
went with the Vikings. I like that our listeners are
just getting free picks. This feels like you ever listen
to those shows on the radio on like eight thirty
in the morning, on like eight they're still on in
la like when I'm on my way to work, like
on AM Ready, where they're like, I'll give you one
pick now and you call one eight hundred and who
is paying for what they're calling the one eight hundred
(35:22):
line for like the other good picks, but the free
picks are like, where do you think I got my
Chargers pick? I just I just mean you could have
picked like any other game.
Speaker 6 (35:32):
Our real life.
Speaker 7 (35:32):
That's what the guy on the phone set.
Speaker 6 (35:33):
Our realis are on our Patreon.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
So if you want to subscribe to that, you can
hear our apps.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
Yes, listen to the Ringer fantasy football show. They it's
not just fantasy football. In the offseason, it's a lot
of draft but even during the season, it's very much
not just fantasy football.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
They have some of the best chemistry.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
Danny is an outstanding host, just like the vibes are excellent,
very good, hang very good, listen, check it out, and
uh yeah, we're.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Going to have some fun out in the city, hopefully.
Speaker 7 (36:04):
I don't know before to the Book of Kels.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
That's right, we are going to the Book of Kels
on Saturday after your double books.
Speaker 7 (36:13):
You forgot about it?
Speaker 6 (36:14):
No, No, I didn't double booked of Kels us.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Oh, I didn't know anything about this, But I am
a dork and would have probably spent my Saturday anyways,
like walking around Dublin and going to like old bookstores.
Speaker 7 (36:27):
And this is like.
Speaker 8 (36:28):
I was like, do you want to do any tourist
and stuff with us? You're like no, And I was like,
it's an old book.
Speaker 5 (36:32):
Was like, hold this book.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
It's so old.
Speaker 7 (36:34):
It's so old, is it?
Speaker 1 (36:36):
Yeah, it's like thousand years old, fifteen hundred years something
like that, eight hundred AD AD.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
So we're gonna do that.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
We're going to finish these Guinnesses in front of me
and you will hear me next in the feed. We
have an extra show this week. I mentioned it earlier.
It's Michael McQuaid from the Pro Football Ireland. He is
like the rich eyes of Ireland. He will love this compliment.
He is just dominating all of like his competitors and
(37:06):
just frankly squashing them out as he tries to just
become an international superstar. So he's on the show. We're
going to talk about football interest in Ireland. We're gonna
do a little powerful we'll talk about this game that's
gonna come up a bonus show on Saturday. It's just
been a joy to have you guys on. We will
see you on Saturday on NFL Daily
