Speaker 1 (00:11):
Hey everybody, it is Tuesday, March eighteenth, twenty twenty five.
Welcome to the NFL Fantasy Football Podcast, where we got
to talk about the most underrated running back on today's
show to me and Rand MG Marcus Grant, joined by
Michael Floyle and Lakwan Jones and apparently Lakwan, I have
to start locking the rundown so you don't just let
come in here and.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Hijack the open. I'm glad you landed it, though, Man,
you said it. You read how it was.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, Like, honestly, this is like you know, I read
it literally for the first time seconds before.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
We started the show. I love that for you.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Thanks, I appreciate that. Yeah, I'm curious who this most
underrated running back is we're going to talk about because
we've been a mock draft, our second mock draft of
the off season, at least our second mock draft as
a group with some others from the fantasy community. You
may have seen on social media's that we put out
a mock draft.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
We had several other people jump in.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
So we will talk about that, talk about some players
who have moved because look, things have changed. There has
been free agency, guys have signed with new teams, so
there are reasons to think that things are changing. Without
getting out any spoilers, Floy, were you surprised by some
of the the movement that you saw in this draft.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
A little. I was really curious to see specifically where
the players who signed on new teams went. And yeah,
they were probably the biggest movers. We're gonna talk about
him some, but some on Lakwan's team himself. He grabbed, uh,
he pulled a couple of them up up the board.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah, I was very surprising, and like I said, we'll
dive into this, especially some of the rookies that move
that that went kind of early in this one, so
we will talk about that and plenty more. Also, Ill
did a little bit weird and to do some baseball
football crossover stuff because Major League Baseball season started today.
If you were on the West Coast, you were probably asleep.
It started at three o'clock in the morning out here
(02:03):
in Los Angeles. I know, even the folks in the
Midwest and on the East Coast were probably just rolling
over and you know, roll out of bed and getting
some coffee as the Dodgers and Cubs were getting started
in Tokyo, Japan. So we'll tie that into some football
a little bit later on in the show, but you
get start it with some news headlines because there have
been some mighty big, important, fantasy relevant things that have
(02:24):
happened in the last few days, maybe none bigger than
in Cincinnati, where the Bengals really are keeping the band together,
at least on offense. They agree to terms with Jamar
Chase and Ti Higgins. Both of them get four year
contract extensions. Jamar Chase four years, one hundred and sixty
(02:45):
one million dollars, so he is now the highest highest
paid non quarterback in NFL history. That record seems to
last for about, you know, seventy two hours, and then
somebody else takes it over.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Florio.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
I suspect that Jamar Higgins is gonna hold onto this.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
For a little bit longer.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
I don't imagine anybody else is gonna come surpass him
anytime soon.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, I mean, unless whichever Ohio football team decides they
want to pay someone next. Because it's just that's the
state where it's staying in right now. But this is
crazy to me, Like I for a while, I was like,
they can't afford to keep all these guys together and
then shout out to Joe Burrow. He was like, I
want my guys here and I want them paid, and
apparently shout out to Jamar Chase as well, because apparently
(03:32):
they him and to Higgins have the same agent, and
apparently the agent was like, you're not getting one without
getting bold. So it's really cool that they took care
of each other and stuff like that. But my god,
are they gonna have no money left for defense? Like
every game is gonna be like the football version of
playing in course field, Like you're just gonna get a
(03:54):
ton of points. There's gonna be no defense. It's gonna
be a shootout. You're gonna want those guys in fantasy
this week that week. So so I don't know what
it means for the Bengals in real life on that defense,
if they're gonna be able to overcome that or not,
But for fantasy it should be a really fun thing.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
They are still trying to sign Trey Hendrickson. We'll see
if there's any money left in the piggy bank for
them to get that done. Otherwise, I'm sure you know
there's a team in Buffalo that wouldn't mind maybe seeing
if Trey Hendrickson is available. I know they are looking
for pass rushers, and he potentially said, look, you guys
got Joey Bosa.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
You don't need Trey Hendrickson, do you. Sounds like von
Miller could still come back. I'll take all the pass rushers.
This is a good draft for pass rushers though. Man
just chill until April relaxed. However it happens, I'm cool
with it. The crazy thing, though, is if the Bengals
pay Trey Hendrickson what he wants, they're literally gonna have
no money for anyone else, like Gonna. It's the real
(04:52):
life version of Stars and Scrubs. It really is.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
It is like that old you know, salary cap league
auction league strategy. You're gonna pay a whole bunch of
guys at the and then you'll just make it work
with whatever you have left. But that does sort of
beg the question Lakwi, because Florida was getting at it. Look,
if they can't play defense, they're gonna give up a
lot of points, which means they're going to have to
score a lot of points. We know where Jamar Chase
is going. We'll talk about that in the mock draft.
(05:16):
You know, see Higgins is going to be highly drafted
for sure. I'm gonna get this stough through a dynasty
lens because that is always sort of in flux. It's
always sort of changing. With these two receivers in for
the long term and Joe Burrow saying he wanted his guys. Now,
does this move him at all in dynasty rankings? He's
still a top five guy. Is there any room for
(05:38):
him to move up now that there's some stability in sensing?
Speaker 2 (05:41):
It's gonna be hard to move up past the mobile guys.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
And you got Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson always going to
be in the conversations the top three, and you can
slide Joe Burrow in at three if you want, and
you can have Jayden Dames in that conversation as well
at four. So looking at it, man, this Bengals offense
is going to be putting up fifty points even though
their defense is probably gonna be giving up forty points.
So therefore you're looking at like an offense that's going
to be high power for the next couple of years.
(06:05):
So yeah, I mean Joe Burrow, he gets he gets
a hard nudge into the top three conversation of quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
I am no football genius. My job is talking about
fake football more often than that.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
But I'm gonna give.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
The Cincinnati Bengals just a little bit of football advice,
and that would be, maybe you don't start the season
with a losing record. You go back through the last
few years and it's you know, it's one in four,
it's one in three, it's it's one in two. You know,
I know this offense is good. I know Joe Burrow
and company can score a lot of points. It just
(06:40):
feels like, maybe, don't put yourself in a hole. So
that's suddenly we're in mid October and you're talking about
must win games because you're trying to keep pace, you know,
with the Ravens and everybody else. That's good for us,
it's great for us, absolutely great for us. Not so
good for the Bengals and their aspirations of getting to
the playof us and maybe trying to win a Super Bowl.
(07:02):
Other things that happened over the weekend that we didn't
get too because they happened after the last time we
spoke to you all. Uh Lakwan Cooper Cup. He is
no longer Ram. He's still in the NFC West, he
goes to Seattle signs a three year, forty five million
dollars deal. I know the three of us sort of
texted about this after it happened. I just first have
(07:23):
to ask you, I mean, how are you going to feel?
How are you going to feel emotionally when you see
Cooper Cup in that blue and green with the Seahawks
on the side of his helmet.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
I haven't processed that yet because I still can't see it.
I literally can't see it, Like when people remind me
that he's on the Seahawks now, it's like, no, he's not.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
I don't believe it there yet. But I know it's
going to be one of.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Those things like when we first played, because we're going
to see him twice a year, and I definitely feel like,
you know, it's going to be one of those weird
things where a Cup has something to prove, like I
think he wants to prove to McVeigh and the rest
of the RAMS organization like, hey, you guys should have
kept me. So I know he's going to be going
out there, putting his all out there, and hopefully our defense,
you know, can get after Sam Donald because got to
(08:09):
him twelve times last year, so they can get to
him again on this Seahawks offensive line that's also struggling,
but more so looking at Cooper Cup for a fantasy scope.
On a fantasy scale, I'm not really interested. I honestly
see him going in that fifth sixth round once we
get closer to summertime and guys looking at you know,
Cooper Cup of the past and thinking that with Sam
(08:29):
Donald and JSN, et cetera, et cetera, I'm not too
interested on the scale of just we already know, you know,
he has an injury history. So in that fifth sixth
round where I think he probably will go, I'm probably
gonna look for, you know, other options around that area.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Well, and LaQuan mentioned that Florio.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
I mean, you know, Cooper Cup we knew has dominated
from the slot for the majority of his career. Last
year we saw Jackson Smith and jig But have a
breakout season working primarily from the slot. So you got
two guys who from the same part of the field.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
How much does this hurt JSN? I mean, who plays
the slot? How do you see this thing shaking out? Yeah?
Last year JSN ran three quarters of his routes from
the slot. Cooper Cup was at fifty percent of the
RAMS routes from the slot, so that it's yeah, it's
a weird fit. It's a weird coexisting situation. I think
(09:24):
they'll split time in the slot. But if I had
to guess, my thinking is Cooper Cup plays it primarily
and JSN slides out wide. And I've seen people try
to make this argument that like, this is a good
thing for JSN, and I'm not saying for real life purposes,
he can't be an X. I think that's in his profile.
I think he has this skill set to do so.
(09:46):
But I do think he projects better as a slot receiver,
and even take that, whatever your opinions are of and
his skill set aside, slot in the slot is just
so much easier to operate its higher quality target. That's
why he was able to be a PPR monster. Now
you're asking him to do something new, to do something
more difficult, and you were also factoring in a new quarterback,
(10:12):
like there's a lot of changes here with JSN. That
to me. I know he was a borderline wide receiver
one in early drafts and he finished as won last
year and a lot of people were hyped about that.
There is no way I could take him as my
wide receiver one given everything that has happened in Seattle.
If you want him as a two, fine, I get that,
and I'm okay with it. But like even yesterday, I
(10:34):
know we're gonna talk about where he went in our
mock draft. I had a chance to grab him and
then kind of missed out on him on the turn.
I wasn't upset by it. I was like, cool, there's
a lot of risk here. So like I like JSN,
but I'm cool with him not being on my fantasy
team at the price that he's going, which is a
second round pick. Right now.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Yeah, I'm looking sort of where he went. Like I said,
we will get to that in just a little bit.
And I think a lot of it has to do
with your roster build and what you already have when
he is up potentially on your draft board.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
I think that's gonna have a lot to do with it.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
To your point, will people take him as their first
wide receiver or you feel better with him as your
second wide receiver? Quand you did mention Sam Donnol and
how the Rams pestered him last season. Obviously, a new situation,
but still a questionable offensive line there in Seattle. I
don't think anybody's drafting him as a QB one, are they?
(11:27):
Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see him being
a QB one. I think he's kind of a high
end QB two this year.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Yeah, we could say QB two high end just based
on what we saw last season, but I'm not drafting
at all because listen, he's going to be harassed with
that old line, and it's not even going to just
be the Rams. There's other teams out there that are
going to be able to get to him as well,
and Sam he does bring some rushing upside, so I
can kind of see why people will label him as
to QB two as a guy that has that upside
(11:53):
as a high end. But more so, most of these
yards are going to be scrambled yards. These aren't gonna
be like design runs, So it's not like he's going
to be going out out there putting up five hundred
and six hundred yards. We're looking at around three hundred
to four hundred rushing yards from him, So I can
honestly see people hanging their hat on that just for
the rushing upside and praying to God that they go
to the draft and they add another wide receiver because
there's still another missing spot here that needs to have
(12:15):
this offense to actually look like it's threatening. And Sam
Donald he's going to need more than that.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
I don't think he was drafted in Armaki yesterday. I
don't believe so. I did not see him.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
He was not drafted in the draft.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Feels right right, like there's no garback that was drafted
that I'm like, oh, Sam Donald should easily be ahead
of him.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Yeah, I think I think for the most part it
is I don't want to give away too much, but
I think for the most part, uh that that you know,
I think that was sort of right.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
It felt okay. Can I say one name that that
was very interesting to me? That's that McCarthy. Yeah, like that.
That one caught my eye.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
That was one that definitely did. To your point though
about the rushing yards their La Kwan last year, two
hundred and twelve rushing yards for Sam Darnold, only ten
away from his career high. He had two twenty two
in Carolina a few seasons ago, and listening to you
sort of explain the situation made me think we need
to start differentiating between running quarterbacks and scrambling quarterbacks because
(13:21):
I think there's a difference, right huge editions Josh Allen
running quarterback, Lamar Jackson, Jayden Daniels. You know, I think
Jalen Hurts to an extent a running quarterback. Sam Donald
a scrambling quarterback. You know, I think I think Patrick
Mahomes is a scrambler. Caleb Williams, I think it looks
like a scrambler bow Knicks. I think I think we
need to start sort of separating them. To Doris Sanders, Yeah,
(13:44):
you know, I think I think you can you can survive.
You know, you would like a running quarterback for your
fantasy roster. I think you can be okay with a
scrambling quarterback if you have a pocket passer. He has
to be an incredibly good pocket passer to make up
for what you're missing on the grim.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Damn can move though, he can move in the pocket,
even though that whole line is trash, but it's just
going to be more times than not he's going to
be on his back those final two weeks scare me
because of that old line.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Look at his history, look at the TV he's been
with he has a lot of experience scrambling, He's played
behind a lot of bad offensive lines. He sort of
knows what to do in those situations. Okay, So now
I'm looking at this and I think I know who
your most underrated running back is.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
The Vikings.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
They get Jordan Mason, I see, but pushing the air
now he's looking on it's pushing the air now. Vikings
acquired Jordan Mason in a trade from the San Francisco
forty nine ers. When I saw this, I texted you,
I said, are you still in on Jordan Mason?
Speaker 2 (14:43):
And you're an.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Emphatic yes, yes, So obviously we know how you feel
about Jordan Mason, and I should ask you how you
feel about Aaron Jones.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Aaron Jones to me, he feels safe for the first
half of the season because Aaron Jones, he's getting up
there in age. He's thirty, all right.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
I've been thirty before in my life before, so I
know how Sam strings these These are starting to work,
and I feel like it's almost like to the point
where you hand the guard over.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
How Raheem Moster did it to Devon ah Chan.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
We're looking at Jordan Mason and probably the best situation possible.
The old line has gotten better, they got an additions.
You're looking at Jordan Mason. He's giving you five yards
for carry his entire career, even with limited opportunities.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Listen, it takes very little for me to love a
running back. It only takes a couple of touches.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
And in twenty twenty two, I want you to show
me anybody that was talking about Jordan Mason, this guy
right here, because it only took a couple plays. He
took my breath away when he faced the Rams in
twenty twenty three in his first first game, getting those reps.
And when I'm looking at that game, I'm like, Yo,
this dude needs more opportunities. And that's exactly what he's
falling into. If Aaron Jones, what's happened to fall apart
(15:48):
mid season to the back end. We're looking at a
league winner right here, man, all opportunities ahead of him.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
So I will say, on the one hand, yes, Aaron
Jones is thirty. He's going to be thirty one in December,
so he's on the wrong side of that arbitrary cliff
that we have set up at age thirty.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
On the other hand, in all those.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Years he was in Green Bay and we were so
frustrated because he never got the workload we wanted, right
because at some point it was Jamal Williams taking opportunities,
then it was aj Dillon taking opportunities. Last year he
had three hundred and five touches or three hundred and
six touches. First time in his career he's ever been
over three hundred total touches in a season. In fact,
he's only been over two fifty three times ever. So
(16:31):
maybe there's not as much wear and tear, but I
could see a one to two punch for sure in
Minnesota before this back back to San Francisco. Yes, Christian
McCaffrey is still there. He's coming off of what was
a really frustrating year with injuries. Jordan Mason is gone,
Elijah Mitchell is gone. Should you invest in Isaac Garrindo
or should you be worried that maybe another running back
(16:53):
is coming in the draft?
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Yeah, well yes to both of those because Isaac Grendo, Look,
they drafted him last year. They clearly feel really good
about him. They had the option to keep Jordan Mason.
I know, contract and stuff, kind of led to that,
but they chose they felt comfortable enough to move on
from Jordan Mason to be like, we have Isaac Grendo here,
who looked really good when he got opportunities last year.
(17:19):
They're caveat with the draft being you could say that
about almost any running back right now, like if they
survived the draft, because it's such a deep running back
class and teams that we don't think are going to
take running backs are going to take running backs. And
that's why don't fall in love with situations just yet.
But as of today, I don't see how you don't
feel great about Isaac Garndo because he is the handcuffed
(17:41):
to see him see who let's face it is getting
up there in age and now has achilles issues to
worry about and stuff, and hasn't always been the poster
boy of health if he misses any time, we're talking
about Isaac Garrendo being the RB one on a Kyle
Shanahan rushing attack, like we saw it last year year
with Jordan Mason. We saw it at times with Isaac
(18:02):
Grendo prior to last year, we saw it like Elijah Mitchell,
you Raheem Moster Jeff Wilson picked running back and want
when they get a chance to start, they end up
being fantasy relevant. So if he is the handcuff coming
into twenty twenty five, I would argue he is one
of the top handcuffs in fantasy. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
I you know, the Niners I think are still sort
of sorting out their plans. They probably have a plan,
they just haven't told the rest of us. I suspect
they are drafting a running back. The question is exactly
when how much draft capital do they invest in a
running back? And I see that will determine how much
opportunity they get. And just the recent history of forty
(18:42):
nine running backs suggests that whoever they draft probably gonna
play because that's house been, That's how it's been the
last few years.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
We're the running backs in San Francisco.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
That should just tell you to sell them though, Man,
like this is a cell window, like I am getting
all my Grendo shares out, because that just shows that
they're going to keep that running back room stable, stacked,
like you already let Jordan Mason go. Elijah Mitchell was
you know what it is? What is but he's gone.
You really don't think they're going to fill that back
to that depth chart of those running backs, man, and
(19:14):
they are having the opportunity to play. It's going to
take a Caleb Johnson or RG Harvey to get drafted
and the folks are gonna be like, ooh, I don't
know about Isaac Garrendo again, So this would be a
good window to sell if I'm a dynacy manager.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah, potentially.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
I just I wondered, again, do the Niners invest that
sort of draft capital to get those guys that you mentioned?
I mean, when you think about it, Grindo himself was
a fourth round pick. Yeah, I guess it depends on
how draft boards fall. We'll see what they decid.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
That's what she need to be to be a running back.
He is fast, fast, true for sure.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Speaking of running backs, a couple more guys signing. The
Cowboys signed Miles Sanders. The Chiefs re signed Kareem Hunts.
Uh that do anything for anybody?
Speaker 2 (19:59):
So I thought we were going to break Actually so no,
I think I think people are gonna see the Kareem
Hunt signing and be like, it's over for Isaiah Pachecko.
But like, did you guys watch Kareem Hunt last year.
He is a plotter who has literally no explosiveness left
it to me. Him and Elijah Mitchell are both in
(20:19):
case Pacheco doesn't get back to what he was pre
injuries type of signings.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Yeah, I mean I would be more worried about Mitchell.
I think, yeah, creeping up on Pacheco than than Hunt.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
But I don't think either.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
One of those guys is really a threat to Isaiah
Pachecko's opportunities.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Don't worry. If you need someone to run into the
Eagles d line six times in the.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Super Bowl, Hunt, that's your guy.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
That is your guy.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Actually, I was a huge I was a huge Kareem
Hunt fan when he was coming out of Toledo. I
remember hyping him up and I remember that first game.
I don't even his first game is a rookie. He
had a huge game. I think I caught a big
touchdown pass game.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
So I remember that.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
I was on you know then Twitter, and was, you
know victory. I don't victory lap very often. I victory
lapped that one because I was all about Kareem Hunt
coming into that season and uh, and he broke out immediately.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
He was like a top five running back. I want
to say as a rookie. So I think he was.
He was.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
He was really really good as a rookie, But he wasn't.
He wasn't a guy that was getting a lot of
hype in that draft class. But I remember watching him
and just kind of falling in love with his game
for sure.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
But Chiefs know they're running backs until this, until they
become this until that was a mistake in the first round,
but that's another story. I bought him though, so over
Jonathan Taylor, insane.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
We were all so excited for Clyde Edwards Hilaire that
was going to be the thing that that just broke
fantasy football. He did, just not in the way that
we were hoping it. Well, all right, now we are
going to take a break.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
We're to come back.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
We're going to dive into our second mock draft of
the off seats and who went big, who fell.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Down the draft boards, maybe he didn't get drafted at all.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
We'll talk about that more coming up on the NFL
Fantasy Football Show. So we're gonna do my drafts periodically
throughout the throughout the off season. Maybe sure, I do
one a month basically as things kind of shift around
and you know what, We've gone through free agency, we'll
have the draft coming up in a few weeks. We'll
definitely do another one after that. So excited to get
(22:27):
a group of folks together, a twelve team, one quarterback
redraft league, just sort of your basic I guess what
is now standard? I guess PPR has become these standards,
So what is now a standard league for most folks?
And the one dot one a receiver from LSU, but
not the same one as last time. This time is
(22:48):
Jamar Chase? I mean, any surprise, any real surprises that
Jamar Chase went number one from anybody?
Speaker 2 (22:58):
No, Like normally I'm like the oh, I'll make the
case for someone else. I don't see any case or
anyone else.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Yeah, uh, I'm not a big surprise. Our polem Mike
Fayela took Jamar Chase at the one dot one. But
after that Florida, a little bit of a surprise that
Running Bass go two, three, and four. Maybe not the
guys who went, and maybe not the fact that they
went in that order.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Were you surprised that they went starting at number two? Though? Yeah,
I was sitting there at three, like I think I'm
gonna grab Bijon if he falls to me, just to
go like hero RB and kind of hammer that home.
Because I wasn't sure which running backs would fall back
to me in the late second, but I was pretty
confident i'd get wide receivers that I feel good about.
But I also, while this show may be out on
(23:48):
Saquon going where he's going, I think in most drafts
he'll be the number two pick behind Jamar Chase or
even maybe in some go one overall and then Chase
goes second. But I was surprised with Gibbs going forward.
Now I do think, like to me, Gibbs and Bijon
are my top two running backs, but I thought he
would fall a little bit behind some of these other receivers.
(24:10):
But I'm guessing the other drafters felt like me at
two and at four, like I'll feel good about some
running receivers later on, but if I miss out on
these running backs, I don't know what's coming back to me.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Yeah, So Barkley goes two, b John Robinson goes three,
Jamier Gibbs goes four. Then it came to me at
number five, and I sat and I looked, because obviously
the running backs were gone at that point, there were
no running backs that I was interested in. At number five,
Justin Jefferson was still there, i'mon Ross Saint Brown was
still there, Ceedee Lamb was still there, and I really
(24:43):
sort of toggled between Lamb and Jefferson.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Ultimately I ended up taking C. D. Lamb.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
And so here's my thought process. Because my thought was, Okay,
well Ceed's gonna be back, he's gonna be healthy, he'll
have hopefully a healthy Dak Prescott back next year as well,
and that at least gave me some sense of comfort
that there was some stability there. Well, Lakwan, last year
at this time, we were like, I don't know about
Justin Jefferson. Sam Donald's gonna be the quarterback and I'm
(25:12):
gonna stay away from that. And then we all look
like idiots, uh you know, midway through the season. Tell
me I'm not doing the same thing over again. We're
doing the same thing over again.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
We doubted Kevin O'Connell, we doubted Sam Donald, We even
doubted JJ as a rookie, and like, I think we're
falling in that again.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
Like I was really really surprised he didn't go right
here for you, Marcus because I'm like, Justin Jefferson is
going to fall to me, but of course he didn't.
Obviously I'm alway, but more so like he fell kind
of far at the one oh seven, where I'm just like,
this is pretty amazing.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Though. If I'm standing in that mid round, if I'm
in that one o six one oh a spot, and
I could get a Justin Jefferson, man, the Vine's gonna
be insane. And I think JJ.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
I don't know if anybody saw his like preview villain
arc of his video preview on this the timeline for
the Vikings, but he seems locked in. So I'm like, yeah,
I'm not gonna make that same mistake. So if I
can get the opportunity to get Justin Jefferson in the
middle of the first round, I'm coming to smash that
button as hard as I possibly can.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
I mean, I don't make sense. I just want I
want certainty. I just want to know. And I think
we all believe that JJ McCarthy is going to be
the starting quarterback. But you know, the Vikings are still
out there reportedly flirting with number twelve, right, I mean,
there's there's still talking they can bring somebody else in.
(26:33):
It's just there's just an uncertainty there that made me
a little nervous.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
I don't think you're crazy at all, man, Right, thank you,
Ceedee Lamb. In twenty twenty three had I just went
and looked. He had the same amount of points that
Jamar Chase had last year. It's the third most of
the receivers ever had in NFL history Jamar Justin Jefferson,
as awesome as he is, has never had four hundred
points in a season before. He also hasn't been the
(26:58):
top wide receiver in either of the last couple of years.
In fact, twenty twenty two is the only year he
ever has, so like, he's very very good, he's super consistent.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
All of that.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
You're not crazy at all if you prefer CD Lamb
in mind, all right, good, Well, the comfort is is
that the Cowboys aren't serious and they're keeping everything in
the exact same way.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
So yes, that's why it's not a bad pick for Marcus.
But I just was shocked better. I would say probably
more volume baby to me, I think they're like a
coin flip those time.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
All right, Jefferson is safer, but we have yet to
see his ceiling be what we've saw CDs be two
years ago. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
So Ceedee Lamb goes at five. I'm on rossaying Brown
at six, Justin Jefferson falls to seven at eight and
then nine. Lakwan, you're on the clock at nine. Two questions,
One why Drake London o from the league neighbors and
two if Puka Akua had been there at nine, I
assume that's what you would have done.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Yeah, Poko would have been at nine. For me.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
That's why I projected him to go with this Adams
thing happening. But more so I took Drake London just
based off I'm looking for the absolute ceiling, like he
has top five DNA in him. We saw it last
season how things were connecting with him, Kirk Cousins and
Evil Michael Pennix. I'm putting all my eggs in one
basket that Michael Pennix just even lifts higher with Drake
London in the sense of they're going to be one
(28:24):
to air the ball out. All Michael Penix wants to
do is throw the ball along. You have somebody that
has a catch radius and contest to catch up there
with some of the best with Drake London. I'm going
for the high high ceiling here for Drake London over
Molik Neighbors. I feel like we don't have the answers
right now at quarterback, Like everybody wants Jamis Aaron Rodgers
or they go to the draft and get Strador Sanders.
(28:46):
Let's just say the safest opportunity that the Giants actually take,
they get Sanders. I don't think Milik Neighbors hits that
high high ceiling that we will want if it was
an Aaron Rodgers or if it was a Jameis Winston.
So I'm just gonna hold off until we get that
answer at QUI quarter back where we can actually gauge
where Molik Neighbors is going to be.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
All right.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
So basically your take on my Lak Neighbors was kind
of similar to my feeling about CD or Justin Jefferson
and CD Lamb just not not that it's bad, not
that he's bad. There's just a little uncertainty there and
that made it's March.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
It's March change.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
I'm not mad at it. It's gonna change.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
As the Molik Neighbors defender on it, like I'll just
I like love Drake London. But I'll just Malik Neighbors
quarterback room is going to be better than it was
last year, hopefully, hopefully, hopefully, how could it be worse?
Speaker 1 (29:37):
That means my real question, don't don't put that in
the atmosphere.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
I just don't. Don't even don't even do it. James Winston,
that's better.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Don't even put that that puts him in the top
five picks locket, Like, that's like Winston is going to
just a realistic I'm.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
A big believer that there's there's like a very a
few handful of wide receivers that are elite regardless of
who their quarterback is, like Jefferson C. D Lamb. I
think the Lakue Neighbors is one of them. So I'm
gonna be championing him all off season again.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
All right, Well, so he goes at ten the rest
of the first round, Brees Hall at eleven, and Nico
Collins rounds out the first round. Coming back around to
the second round, Tyreek Hill, AJ Brown, Jonathan Taylor, and
Lakwi You did get a Rams receiver. You didn't get
Pooking Akua, but you got Davonte Adams, So I mean
you gotta be okay with that.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
Yeah, absolutely, man, I think he's going to fill a
hole that I've mentioned before with the Rams where we
just could not score any red zone.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
You know.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
It's just one of those things that kind of like
hindered us from wide receivers actually finding the end zone.
With Cooper Cup Pooking Akoua, and Tyler Higbee not being
healthy as well, doesn't really cause a distraction in the
middle of the field as a decoy to get one
of those touchdowns. Who one of our wide receivers. So
moreso looking at Matthew Stafford and Adams, you know, connecting.
He's not the wide receiver one, but I can end
(30:58):
up seeing him having more touchdown stim Pookin Nakula.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
All right, so the two top RAMS receivers are off
the board by the early part of the second.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Would you have double dipped?
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Yeah? Would you have double dip if you'd gotten Puko.
Would you have come back and got Davante?
Speaker 2 (31:12):
No?
Speaker 3 (31:12):
No, no, no, no no. That would have changed a couple
of things there. I probably would have tried to go
running back, like right there, if I would have got Pooka,
I would have went running back.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
But being that I didn't get Pucko.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
Who's gonna get like one of those like huge target volumes.
It's like, I'll get Adams where the touchdowns are going
to live and breathe, and I get the apps ceiling.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
All right, So Brian Thomas goes next, first rookie off
the board, Ashton gent Wow, two dot six, it's march.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Well what are we doing? Man?
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Everybody wants to be the first to play at the flag, right,
And so Ashton John c uh going middle of the
second round, Jarrett Wilson after that. It's a Christian mccafferre
at the two eight, mostly because I get.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
It, you know, I mean, yeah, maybe a little bit,
but also like I get it.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Look, I understand the age concerns, the injury concerns. He
still went healthy, going to get an incredible workload. He's
still a talented, very good player. I just I looked
around and I looked at sort of you know who
was out there. I'm like, I couldn't let him fall
past two eight. I just I couldn't do it. So
I'll take him there. Yeah, I just couldn't do it.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Took on for the team. Sure, why not?
Speaker 1 (32:22):
Goes right after that and then Flora, you talked about
looking at JSN, you sook Terry McLaurin, and then JASN
goes one pick after that, and you basically said that
you're You're.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Cool with that. Yeah, I have no problem with that
at all, because even last season, Terry McLaurin outperformed JASN
like they were close, but Terry was the wide receiver
seven and JASM was wide receiver nine. And the thing is,
I think Terry is only getting better because for years,
I mean all of us were like, imagine what this
(32:51):
guy could be with a quarterback. He finally gets one,
he finishes top seven, but he had a rookie QB
and there was growing pains early on. I remember the
middle of the season we had that rib injury. Now
you add in that, not only do I think Jayden
Daniels continues to get better, He's gonna have more time
to throw with Larrymy Tunsel. There there's gonna be Debo
which could help take some defensive attention away, especially closer
(33:13):
to the line of scrimmage, which could open things up
more downfield for Terry. I've always been a Terry McLaurin believer,
but I love getting him in late round two. Like
for my built, he's my wide receiver one. But if
you win a wide receiver in round one and he's
your two, like I think either way is phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
All right, So McLaurin, JSN Derreck Henry. The end of
the second round, third round, we get our first tight
end off the board, no big surprise at its brock Bowers.
But a few picks later, Trey McBride goes, and then
we also get our first couple of quarterbacks off the board.
Josh Allen goes at the three six. Lamar Jackson goes
(33:51):
at the three twelve. I'm lakwan you willing to pay
up for either a tight end or a quarterback in
round three?
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Nope, I'm good. I'm good.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
I do feel like, you know, the brock bow, which
it kind of makes sense, you know, you get geno
over there like in the third round.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
I'm not mad at that.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
Because when we first did this, people were having broco
in like the second round or early early second round,
you know, back and in the first so this feels
like a little bit cheaper. It's just that my personal belief,
I'm not going quarterback or tight end in those first
three rounds.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
All right, how about you, Florio?
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Did you okay with a tight end or I should
say not okay with would you do a tight end
or a quarterback in round three?
Speaker 2 (34:34):
I would have probably done it had Lad McConkie up
in there for me in round three. And I know
people are gonna be mind blowing, like Ladd McConkie round three.
He's gonna go there come August, and I think he's
one hundred percent going to be worth it. But there
was no like he was the cutoff of receivers that
I felt good about there, And I think the whole
room kind of agreed because after I took McConkie, another
(34:56):
receiver didn't go till the end of the round, so
there was a large where no receivers went. If let's say,
like McConkie went instead of Bowers and I get there,
i'd probably take Bowers, or even if like McBride went,
If McConkie win instead of Derek Henry, let's say I
would have took Trey McBride. But no, if one of
those receivers that I feel good about are there, I'm
(35:17):
going to take him over a tight end every time.
And for quarterback, not in the top three, but I
was sitting there hoping that Jayden Daniels fell to me
in the fourth because I would have grabbed him. Yeah,
I was wondering about that. Because you did take Terry McLaurin.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
I assumed that the hope was Jaden Daniels still hangs
around there and you could pair the two of them up.
But unfortunately for you, he did not make it quite
that far. I went Kyraen Williams, so I went after
my opening seed, lamb. I went running back, running back
with Christian McCaffrey and Kyrien Williams. LaQuan, you got your
first running back in round three with James cook How
(35:49):
you feeling about him this year?
Speaker 2 (35:51):
I feel good about James cook Man. He wants to
get the bag.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
He's motivated, and I think he has something to prove
this year as well, so he's gonna go out there
and have one big blo up year. I think it's
like more so like Josh Jacobs when he wanted to
get that bag with the Raiders. So I feel like
James cook is motivated. He's a safe pick here for
a running back to established as my RB one, and
I felt like, you know, there's going to be running
backs available, you know after in the mid rounds. As
(36:14):
you could see out my rest of my draft, we.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
Got our second rookie off the board to Amaron Hampton.
The running back goes at the end of the third round,
headed to the fourth.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Couple more quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Jayden Daniels goes at the four to six, Jalen Hurts
goes at the four to nine. I'm trying to think
some of the things that stand out here in this
this fourth round.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Jamison Williams, Yeah, that was frightening.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
That's spicy at four eleven. Samos and Williams at the
four dot eleven. Very spicy. At the end of that round,
Joe Burrow starts off round number five, followed by Zay Flowers,
and then you got your guy, Flora Isaia Pacheco in
the fifth round there.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
Yeah, and I saw a pere because we tweeted out
our teams and stuff and some people were like Pachecko
and I'm like, dude, this guy was a second round
pick last year. I got him in the fifth round
as an RB two, and I'm still like I was.
I was very in on Pacheco last year, and obviously
when he came back, he wasn't the same guy. So
(37:18):
I think a lot of people are holding on to
that last image we had of Isaiah Pacheco and forgetting
how how much excitement there was around him coming into
last year and how good he was up until last
year when he got even when he got hurt, Like
up until then, he looked like he could be a
top five fantasy running back. And if he continues to
(37:39):
get the goal line work and the passing down work,
I feel good about him. And that's the thing with
the running backs that the Chiefs brought in. They didn't
bring in like a pass catching specialist. Like remember last
year when they signed Samaj p Ryan, everyone freaked out.
They haven't brought that kind of running back in. They
brought guys who aren't necessarily pass catchers. So I still
(38:00):
I feel like Isaiah Pacheco has that RB one upside,
maybe even high end RB one upside. And I got
him as a two in the fifth round, So for me,
it feels like a discount. Although for people on Twitter
they hated it. Uh yeah, I get it. Like he played.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
I will say that I was hesitant about Isaiah Pacheka
going into last year, but to your point, he played
really well before he got hurt.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Unfortunately, I just sort of derailed much of his season.
I'm I took.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
Mark Andrews here because that was about the cutoff for
where I felt comfortable getting a tight end.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
At that point.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Andrews and George Kittle were the two guys that were
left that I really felt strongly about. But having already
drafted Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Ayuk, I just couldn't a
good conscience at George Kittle.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
I just I couldn't do it staying in the West,
you know, I could not.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
There's no feeling about the forty nine or offense specifically,
but just being that loaded with one team makes me nervous.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
So I took Mark Andrews instead. If you didn't have
the two others, would you have taken Kittle over Andrews? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (39:05):
Yeah, if even if it was just one, if I've
had either McCaffrey or Auk, I would have taken Kittle.
But I couldn't do it with both McCaffrey and Ayu.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Yeah, I couldn't. I think it's a good example of
like pivoting your how you feel about players to fit
your neat your team needs.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
Yeah, yeah, I mean I think it's always good. This
is not revolutionary advice here, but I would have been
an ugly bye week.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
I would have been every bye week.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
But also, you know it's not revolutionary, but it is
good to have multiple options. If you were looking at
a player, think about a couple of other players that
can give you similar production or do similar things.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
So that way, either if.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
You're loaded on one team or your guy gets sniped,
you're not panicking when you were on the clock there,
Uh tedor Rod McMillan goes five to ten uh in
this Yeah, look, big body receiver. Very curious where he lands,
but I know he's getting a lot of hype. A
lot of people are excited about him, so stock quent.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
So that's good. Yeah, it did for sure. More rookies.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Hoove takes a Mecca Abuka to start round six. Patrick
Mahomes comes off the board in round six. Treveon Henderson
also coming off the board. So a lot of rookies
getting pulled up Florida. Is this a march thing or
is this going to be the price we're paying for
some of these rookies?
Speaker 2 (40:24):
A little of both. I think I think we are
going to as a fantasy community. I think we've just
become smarter as of late, and we have caught onto
the recent trends that like, especially at running back, these rookies,
they come into the league ready to contribute day one,
but we also it's March. We aren't playing these drafts out.
(40:45):
People want to be like like you said, they want
a flag plan and be like, look, I was on
this guy, like he could easily be a third round pick,
but if he falls to a not so favorable landing spot,
he could easily fall a couple of round And before
people say anything like that, remember in a couple of
years ago, Javonte would have been going in the third
round in mock drafts, but then he ended up behind
(41:06):
Melvin Gordon and he fell to like the seventh. So
we can love these players all we want, but the
landing spot is going to be the final thing that
determines their ADP.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Yeah, let's see, Lakwan, you took David Montgomery in the
six you talking about taking some middle round running backs
because you said James Cook and the third Najee Harris,
and the fifth David Montgomery in the sixth, which I
think is incredible value. And you know you loaded up
on running backs. I think you got three good ones
and you didn't have to pay a high price for
any of them, particularly.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Some of the other notables.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
I took for Shad White, mostly because I was all
ready to take Jalen Waddle. I had him all loaded up,
and he goes one pick before I'm on the clock,
So instead I pivoted to Rashad White. So I ended
up filling out my three of getting my third running back.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
I should say at that point.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
Floria, you said Courtland Sutton, who I love the idea
of courseland Sutton, but the reality of Courtland Sutton makes
me nervous.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
Yeah, I didn't feel great about that pick in live
time and looking at it, I'm like, yeah, I probably
should have took one of the Steelers receivers, even though
I don't love either of them. But I don't know.
It was just a weird portion of the draft where
there was a number of receivers that are all, in
my opinion, kind of similar, and I was like, hey,
(42:24):
Sutton's got a good quarterback. I don't know who the
Steelers quarterback is going to be. I know, as Bon
Nix and he's gonna get a lot of volumes, so
why not go with that there? But yeah, I was
kind of like you got sniped. I was all set
to take Chase Brown there and he went.
Speaker 3 (42:40):
Right there, And I'm like the ston pick he's your
wide receiver four, Like I don't see an issue with it,
Like I literally see no issue with it.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
Like you can easily swap him in a couple of weeks.
Would you take him over over DK and Pickens? Those
are really the two I was debating.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
Yes, no quarterback is in sight right now, and both
of them are strong person finalities. I literally see a
bunch of drama happening, like, so I don't want any
of them. No, I'm good.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Well, speaking of which, so the end of the fifth
or into the sixth round rather Chuba Hubbard and James Connor,
DK Metcalf starts off the seventh round. In fact, the
seventh round had a heavy stealer influence there because DK
Metcalf starts it off. Jalen Warren is the second pick
in the seventh round. I know Justin Fields isn't a
Steeler now, but he was a steeler and you took
(43:28):
him as your first quarterback Florio and third pick of
the seventh round.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
Seventh QB off the board. And I did a show
this weekend where I was like, guys, I have the
homes in my QB six, but I'm really talling with
the idea of putting justin field seven. And then it's
always good to test these things in theory, right, And
when I was sitting here at the seventh pick, I
was looking at all those other quarterbacks and we talk
about it a lot. There's a huge clump of double
(43:52):
digit names, probably after the top five, and I was
sitting there like, I know, I'm going to take a
second one of these guys later on. So if I'm
going to take a QB here, why not take the
one with the highest ceiling. And to me, that's justin
Fields because he can run for a thousand yards. Only
Lamar Jackson could say is the only only quarterback you
could take that you could say that about. So I
was like, you know what, I'm gonna put this to
(44:14):
the test, And I actually felt really good about it
because I got Dak Prescott later, I got I even
took Drake May just for fun my last round pick.
But like, if you could get a safe quarterback like
Jared Goffwin. Really late, you could get like a Baker,
a Stafford, a Herbert, a Bone. You take your pick,
but like, if you can get one of those guys
as your QB two, why not shoot for the moon
(44:34):
with your QB one.
Speaker 1 (44:36):
Yeah, And it's funny because I was sort of looking
the quarterbacks just didn't fall right for me, because you know,
when I was feeling like I wanted to take a quarterback,
there were none there that I liked at that price.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
You took justin Fields at wich point. I'm like, well,
I'm just.
Speaker 1 (44:49):
Gonna wait a couple more rounds and see who's available
once we get to say round nine or so.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
I didn't.
Speaker 1 (44:56):
I just didn't love this middle part of the draft
for me. I was looking back at forth in some
wide receivers. I took Jayden Reed middle of the seventh round.
That was followed by Dalton kin Kid, Luthor Burden Goes
at the seven dot seven, DeAndre Swift at the seven
to eight, and then uh lakwan, you pulled a Flori
(45:17):
on you, soa khalilak at the seven to nine.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
Mister LQ got more bills than I had. No Bills
on this one. Yeah, you're all on Lakwan's team. I
did I drat that for you.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
Brother, Tyler Warren goes at the seventh sin. He is
my my favorite tight end in this draft. Uh, we
got a couple of rookies because Warren Shawn Jenkins. Jenkins
goes next or Ramandre Stevenson rather rounds out the ninth round,
get in or the seventh round. I should say we
get in the eighth round. Some of the notables here.
(45:52):
Aaron Jones goes at the third pick. You talked about
Aaron Jones earlier, Lakwan. I mean it feels like the
eighth round feels like really good value for him.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
That's great value.
Speaker 3 (46:02):
And this is you just banking on like, hey, I
mean this is my RB what four at this time?
And you took a risk with Trayvon Henderson without knowing
his location. Aaron Jones fits in a nice spot there
as your third running back essentially because he was very
efficient last season. And look the vikings O line they've
done great justice buyd him. So that is such a
great pick there for that value.
Speaker 1 (46:22):
Yeah, absolutely, moving along. See Jered Judy goes to the
fifth pick. David and Joku at eight six. Tony Pollard
goes at eight seven. So I got to my pick
at eight eight, and I'm like looking at I'm like,
I'm debating him, like do I go Calvin Ridley?
Speaker 2 (46:36):
Do I go Jordan Naison? Do I go Calvin Ridley?
Speaker 1 (46:38):
I'll go Calvin Ridley and hope that Jordan Adison comes
back around.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
And Jordanadison went one pick later, Like that's what happens.
Speaker 1 (46:45):
Yeah. I was like like, I like, maybe fingers crossed,
just possibly he'll come back around.
Speaker 2 (46:50):
Nope. Uh the very next picks. Hate when that happens,
but part of you feels like, all right, at last,
I was debating between the two guys exactly. I do.
I feel like Ridley would have made it back.
Speaker 1 (47:01):
To you though, To be honest, you think if I
went the other way, I would have got I would
have been able.
Speaker 2 (47:05):
To get both of them. That's probably what happened in
that year. Yeah, yeah, you might be right. C. J.
Hawkinson goes eight.
Speaker 1 (47:12):
Travis Kelce the eleventh pick in the eighth round.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
Is this, does this? Does this stick? Florio? Is this?
Does he stay here? Does he maybe move up?
Speaker 1 (47:22):
When you get more kind of casual folks drafting, I.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
Think he moves up for sure. I one, I was
surprised by where some title like Evan Ingram went in
the fifth round. That blew my mind. In the seventh
I love David and Joku, but I and I had
him ranked ahead of Travis Kelsey. I was surprised that
he went ahead of Kelsey, though, I think when you
get to August Kelsey, I I think he's for sure
(47:51):
behind obviously Bowers and McBride, and then like Kittle, Andrews,
even Hockinson, like those high end tight ends, he'll go
behind after that, though. I don't see any of the
middle round tight ends going ahead of him.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
Yeah, the sweet allow it. That's that's very true some
of the day. Michael Pittman goes at the end of
the eighth round. That was the name that I looked
at a long time. It was just too scared to draft.
But you may laugh when you see some of the
other things I did. Ricky Piersall I thought was a
nice pick at the start of the ninth round for
Mike Fayela. Just gonna just jump through some of these
(48:23):
interesting ones. Cooper Cup is a mid ninth round pick.
My first quarterback was Kyler Murray because I still wanted
somebody who could run. I guess, is MAA Murray a
running quarterback or a scrambling quarterback?
Speaker 2 (48:36):
Now, wow, that's a good question. How many rushing yards
did he finish with? He's like four something. He might
be a scrambler now I think.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
He's I think he's more of a scrambler now. I
don't think he's a running quarterback. I think he had
a couple of years early in his career where he
was a rushing quarterback five p seventy two.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Last year he's kind of on that cusp. He's a
hybrid though. I do think people see Kyler and they
think he's a better runner than he is. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (49:06):
Yeah, I think we're still holding onto that twenty twenty
season when he had eight hundred rushing yards.
Speaker 2 (49:10):
And elet of rushing touchdowns. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (49:12):
No, I I think I think I think we look
at Kyler and we think that, and he hasn't really
come close to that since then.
Speaker 2 (49:18):
When I was talking about the upside quarterbacks, like the
one that gave me pause with fields was Kyler, But
I was like, does Kyler have more upside? I don't
know if we're still at that point. No, I don't
think we are.
Speaker 4 (49:30):
No.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
I think I think we've seen the best of Kyler
at this point. It's not bad, but I don't think
there's any more ceiling for him at that point. Other
notables Travis Hunter goes at the end of the ninth round,
and then.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
It has to be because the concern about him playing cornerback, right,
because he's by far the best receiver in this class.
Maybe yeah, I don't.
Speaker 1 (49:56):
I don't know what the reason is for Travis Hunter
falling as far as he did.
Speaker 3 (50:00):
In a way, I can't do it. I just don't.
He's labeled athlete. I'm good. I just don't want to
take that risk.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
You know what's funny when when you google like Travis
Hunter player comes Champ Bailey comes up every single time,
and it's like, but who is he like as a receiver.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
That I really do think that he's going to primarily
be a corner and who plays a occasional receiver?
Speaker 2 (50:24):
My comp was Garrett Wilson. I think he's legit as
a receiver, man like, I think he makes He's a
big play guy.
Speaker 1 (50:32):
You know, I'm curious can he consistently do the little
things that you need to do to be successful, or
or is he a guy who just won on athleticism
someways work in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (50:41):
Hey, people were saying this about a tawny when he
came over. This is true, very true. You knows two
hits this morning. I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (50:51):
I drafted Kyler Murray with a hope that maybe again
maybe I knew was I knew it was a long
shot that maybe Caleb Williams could fall back to me.
I didn't really expect it. It was just kind of a
pipe dream. He goes top of the tenth round. In fact,
tenth round has Caleb, it has Bo Nicks, I has
Jordan Love, I has Jared goff All in the in
the tenth round, we will ignore the fact that I
(51:13):
drafted Javonte Williams. So we'll just keep on moving to
the eleventh round.
Speaker 2 (51:17):
You can't quit him. You can't quit it. I know
I did. I like looking at him, like, all right, fine,
I'll do it. See kelt Michael Gallup came out of retirement.
You want to pull him up.
Speaker 1 (51:27):
Maybe maybe then that's mont draft. I'll just draft Michael
Gallup too and keep it going. I was surprised that
none of you said anything in the chat while that happened.
I just kind of kept it low. I kept a
low profile and kept it moving. Eleventh round.
Speaker 2 (51:39):
C J.
Speaker 1 (51:40):
Stroud goes in the eleventh I took Anthony Richardson. I
will tell you that I don't in the moment, I
didn't love my quarterback situation. Twenty four hours later, I
don't love my quarterback situation with Kyler and Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
I don't know if either of you can make me
feel better about it. Silence, no quarterback room more upside
the silence. The silence is deafening. Yeah, yeah, I don't.
I don't love it.
Speaker 1 (52:07):
But it's one of those things like, hey man, it's March.
I'm just messing around. I'm just trying to see what happens.
But it's just there's too much volatility there. I just
don't love that at all. He took one for another
one for the team.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
Man.
Speaker 1 (52:20):
Absolutely, I'm trying. I'm trying my best. I'm trying think
some of the other really interesting things from the late rounds.
Kyle Pitts goes to the last pick in the eleventh round, which, however,
you feel.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
About Kyle Pitts.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
That feels like a very low risk situation there that
if it turns out right, you're gonna be okay.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
Yeah, I'm gonna get sucked back in at that cost. Yeah,
but no, like you can wait at time. Like again,
if I don't get like the like Hockenson or Kittle
or Andrews, I'll just wait and I'll double dip and
I'll take Kyle Pitts and someone else like Jake Ferguson
or someone in this situation, he has Bowers, So Pitts hits,
(52:59):
you could try for whatever other team needs. He's gonna
need some wide receivers. I mean, shout out to Daddy.
If Pitt's hits, you could start him over Bowers generational.
Speaker 1 (53:08):
No, No, I don't think he's gonna be hitting like that.
I just don't think that's gonna happen. Round Round thirteen
was sort of the handcuff round. Rico Dowdells starts it off,
Blake Korm, Jordan Mason, Isaac Garrindo all go back to
back to back in the middle of the round. I
(53:28):
hear you growing, so I'm sure you wanted Jordan Mason,
but instead Lakwan you got your second quarterback, you're taking
bon next and you get Matt Stafford. So I mean
it feels like a nice trade off.
Speaker 3 (53:37):
I mean I got that pancake stack with DeVante Adams
and Matthew Stafford, which goes back to my point. Then
I feel like they're going to connect on a whole
bunch of touchdowns. So absolutely love that just in case
things get you know, a little weird in Denver with
Sean Payne and bow Nicks.
Speaker 1 (53:50):
Which is always possible. For sure, we talked about at
the top. JJ McCarthy goes with the second pick in
the fourteenth round. Some of the other notable picks in
that round, Isaiah likely as the fourth pick in that
final round, Trevor Lawrence goes at fourteen nine, and Florida.
You took your boy, Drake May at fourteen ten.
Speaker 2 (54:09):
And ruined Mike's day.
Speaker 1 (54:11):
I ruled Mike Faiella's day. Notable Patriots fan. But also,
you know that's true to your brand. You're making sure
you get your guy.
Speaker 2 (54:17):
I didn't need a third quarterback. I just I was like,
who is the most fun pick I could make here?
Who is Drake May? For sure taking us up?
Speaker 1 (54:25):
And look at some of the bigger movers right, Davante
Adams moves up five rounds from mid seventh to mid second.
Nagie Harris goes up a couple of rounds. Justin Fields
goes from undrafted to Florida. You took him in the
seventh round. Chris Godwin moves up now that he has signed.
DeAndre Swift moves up a couple of rounds. Romo Donese
moves up about a round and a half. DeVante Smith
(54:46):
moves up almost two rounds. But Justin Fields, guys, I mean,
Lakwan that that seems like that seems like it's gonna
be consistent now that he has a home and we
know he's going to be a starter.
Speaker 3 (54:57):
Oh absolutely, especially having that prior connection with Garrett will
and like, I absolutely hope for the best for Justin
Fields this year in fantasy, and like Florio saying, like
you're drafting him to get to that absolute peak, like
we're talking inside the top seven quarterbacks. So I'm definitely
always going to be on the Justin Fields train.
Speaker 1 (55:14):
I mean, I think most of the fantasy is and
like it's funny, it's one of the it's one of
those things where we don't care if he's a good
real life quarterback.
Speaker 2 (55:22):
We're all just just give me those rushing yards, just
real rushing yards.
Speaker 1 (55:27):
Justin Fields just needs to be good enough to keep
the starting job.
Speaker 2 (55:31):
That's it. That's all we want. That's all we want.
Losing it, Tyrod. He's not losing that.
Speaker 1 (55:36):
And necessarily there's no there's no one there. There's no
one there that's gonna take it from him.
Speaker 2 (55:40):
Awesome pairing. By the way, like Taylor could teach Justin Fields,
like he's a veteran, he's been around the block a
lot of times. Like like, I think he's the perfect
mentor for someone like Field, as long as he doesn't
walk in with like a paper bag. That says Taylor
Ham bagel and Ham and gees and we're all good
to like it's poorkroll.
Speaker 3 (55:59):
But more so looking at Justin Fields, he's going in
with the opportunity to really be the starter and not
have somebody over his back, you know, so like it's
a complete fresh start.
Speaker 2 (56:08):
He's paid, he's the starter. Man. I just hope he
goes out there and ball. I'm totally gonna send Justin
Field to Taylor Ham Sandwich. No, he don't even say Flora.
Speaker 1 (56:18):
Park, just have one. Have one door, dash to floora park.
I enjoy your enjoy your tailor ham sandwich.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
Do you think that's possible? Like, can you order players?
Like like you can? I guess right, I'm sure you could.
Speaker 1 (56:30):
If I'm a player, I'm not eating some random sandwich
that some stranger sends.
Speaker 2 (56:36):
Uber Eats has already sus Man, that's.
Speaker 1 (56:38):
Kind of like, hey man, just this magical sandwich appeared.
Speaker 2 (56:43):
I just love the idea of him getting something that's his,
like pork roll on it. There you go. All right.
So that was our look at the mock draft. Uh.
Speaker 1 (56:55):
You know, like I said, we will do more of
these as things shift, certainly after the draft to think
we're gonna see a lot of movement with ADPs and
the like.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
There, take one more quick break. Come back.
Speaker 1 (57:06):
We'll talk some Major League baseball, but like in a
football context or something. I don't know, it'll make sense.
Tick go out for more of the NFL Fantasy Football Show.
So while many of you were asleep, certainly out here
in Los Angeles are on the West coast in general,
the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs were starting the
Major League Baseball season in Tokyo.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
If you care, the Dodgers were a four to one winner.
They are off to one to zero. Shout out to
Yoshinobu Yama.
Speaker 1 (57:33):
Shout out to Yoshinobu Yamamoto for five solid inning show.
Hey Otani in front of his native country had a
couple of hits there. The Dodgers get off to a
start in their defense of their World Series championship. But
more importantly, I was trying to make this in a
football context, because we are a fantasy football show, and
I started thinking about all the guys who played both
(57:54):
football and baseball, and you're kind of looking it up
like I could go deep, deep back into like guys
that you may or may not have heard of obviously.
You guys know Dion Sanders, you know, had obviously a
long NFL career, but also played for the Atlanta Braves
in Cincinnati, Red. I think he played for San Francisco Giants.
Maybe I think for a minute too.
Speaker 2 (58:12):
In this same day he did it, right, he did.
Speaker 1 (58:15):
I think he played for the Braves and then uh,
you know, went and flew and played for the Falcons.
Speaker 2 (58:20):
I think later that night or something like that.
Speaker 1 (58:24):
I think the guy who was as good or even
better at both was Brian Jordan, who played safety for
the Falcons, but also eventually he just switched to baseball
full time. But Brian Jordan was a two sports star
at some point, right around the same time Dion was.
Speaker 2 (58:39):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (58:40):
Maybe the greatest of them all was Bo Jackson, who
unfortunately had his football career cut short because of a
nasty hip injury, but was just an absolute stud. But
I thought about some guys more recent vintage. Obviously, there's
Tim Tebow, who Mets legend, Mets legend for all he
did in college, you know it was not a great
(59:02):
NFL player and was more of a gimmick as a
minor league baseball player.
Speaker 2 (59:07):
My Tim Tebow theory for for the rest of the
time that no one can never convince me otherwise, is
in twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, when the Mets were like
awful in September, he broke his hand like the week before.
He would have been called up that year just to
sell tickets, and he would have played pro baseball like me.
Speaker 1 (59:23):
I believe it one hundred percent believe that theory. It's
like the Mets were like we we gotta do something
to generate some excitement. We're not doing it on the field.
Let's bring up Tim Tebow.
Speaker 2 (59:32):
This New York man. They're gonna do whatever they can
to sell them jerseys and tickets. Man, my met fan
friends are like, we're better than this, and I was like,
I will be there one hundred percent. But like, are
you though, I mean, you know maybe now back then? No? No, right,
like they were awful. Things are fine.
Speaker 1 (59:52):
I actually thought about Jeff Samargia too, who never played
NFL football but was a stud receiver at Notre Dame
and up having a pretty good career as a major
league pitcher shark. But I got down to a couple
of quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray. And you know,
Russ has gone to spring training. I think it was
(01:00:12):
to spring training with the Yankees once I know he was.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
I think definitely the Rangers.
Speaker 1 (01:00:17):
Yeah, the Rangers, for sure, I know. I mean obviously Kyler.
You guys remember there was the whole big thing. Is
Kyler gonna go to the NFL Draft? Is he gonna
sign with the Oakland A's and go play out field?
Obviously we know the choice. But I would say if
you had to pick one and you can combine, you
know what your expectations in baseball were with their NFL careers?
(01:00:41):
Who you got between Russ and Kyler? I mean, Florida,
You're You're deeper in baseball, I.
Speaker 2 (01:00:47):
Know than lakwan Is.
Speaker 1 (01:00:48):
So I'm gonna ask you first, who would you take
between Russ and Kyler?
Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
Kyler Murray all day he was. He was a top
twenty pick, I believe if I'm remembering ninth overall, ninth Russelson, Yeah,
top ten. Russell Wilson went in the forty first round, which,
for those of you who don't know how baseball drafts
work and stuff, they're they're endless. They go on like
year round. Oh not really, but like Mike Piazza was
(01:01:15):
like a sixtieh round pick.
Speaker 1 (01:01:17):
As a pick as a flavor. Yeah yeah, as a
favorite of a family friend.
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
Yeah, that's how deep baseball drafts get. That they're like, yeah,
we'll just throw away a pick because we're friends with
your dad. Like, so Russ going in the forty first
round doesn't really compare to be And the thing like,
I don't really ever remember a Russell Wilson going pro conversation.
There was like legit debate, should Kyler Murray just go
make his money and play baseball? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
No, Russ was more like, hey, Russ plays baseball, and
then like the Rangers let him go out there for
spring training and like you know, play an inning or
two at shortstop and getting a bat. But it wasn't
rush choice.
Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
Kyle did not. Kyla did not. There's no super Bowl
in his future, especially being in But he made money.
He didn't make money, yeah, paid. I don't know if
he's making even baseball players make money. I don't know
if he's making quarterback money though.
Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
Yeah, I mean I think either way, I think his
chances to win a championship are going to be small
because he's not gonna win one in Arizona.
Speaker 3 (01:02:15):
And no, it was there, okay, and.
Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
Yeah, like the He's that he was definitely never gonna
win one with the A's, So I don't know, maybe
this is going to be okay. It did give me, though,
a fun fact that this is like one of those
random trivia things that I keep in my back pocket
for no apparent reason. At one point, the Colorado Rockies
had Todd Helton and Seth Smith playing on their team.
(01:02:45):
They had a weird connection in that Todd Helton was
playing football at the University of Tennessee and I believe
was the backup quarterback or was on the depth chart
behind Peyton Manning, while Seth Smith was at Ole Miss
it was on the depth chart behind Eli Manning.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
Oh I thought Todd started though over Manning over Payton? Uh?
Did Eli started over Smith? Well?
Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
Eli definitely started over over Stsmith. I'm not sure if
if Seth Smith ever really played. Oh, you're right, You're right,
Todd Helton was the starter for AE a short amount
of time.
Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
So w again, let's go. So there it is there.
Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
You know. That was my my fun baseball football tie
in factor for the day.
Speaker 2 (01:03:37):
Hey, Patrick Mahomes dad was a Met That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
Yeah, I don't know if you guys have heard Patrick
Mahomes dad played baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
Is good?
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
He was Okay, he was an Okay, he wants.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
One more Mets revenge by just hitting John Rocker, because
that's apparently something they were trying to set up.
Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
Yeah, I know we all saw through that, right, that
that was that was a setup for something else that
like those two guys, like no one cared that they
were about to actually fight, and I'm not gonna pay
money to watch them fight.
Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
I get why why John Rocker wants to do it.
I zero percent understand why your son is almost a
billionaire and you're like, you know what, I'm gonna fight
for money at my age?
Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
Like attention, just attention, that's all. It is, just attention.
So you know, those are our baseball to football fun facts.
Maybe we'll have some more.
Speaker 2 (01:04:28):
Who knows owns the Royals now too?
Speaker 1 (01:04:30):
He does own the Royals winning, He owns the Royals,
He owns the Raiders, he owns several franchises.
Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
One of my favorite fun facts was when he bought
the Royals his fifteen They started selling Royals fifteen jerseys
and within the airfield was fifteen.
Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
They had a fire actually wearing fifteen.
Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
So it was your best player too, Like it wasn't
like it was like this, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
Right, But if you're with Mirrorfield, what are you gonna
what are you gonna say? Like you walk down the street,
you as thebody who Patrick Mahone, Most people like, oh yeah,
I know who that is. Like the other way, what
is a wit and Merry Field? Like nobody knows who
that is. Nobody knows. Nobody knows. Anyway, I'll be back
with you later on in the week talking about I
(01:05:16):
don't know what. I don't know, the institue, a tournament starts.
Maybe we'll figure out some great football players who played
it all right, Still, fantasy bracket, we'll do that. We'll
make something of that along the way. Either way, that'll
do it for this edition. At the NFL Fantasy Football Podcast,
they happy to say I have a healthy do good and
live well. Enjoy baseball, enjoy college basketball, Enjoy fantasy football.
We'll talk to you again on Thursday, wh
