Speaker 1 (00:13):
Good Morning Football.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Hey, welcome to Good Morning Football, presented by Old Trapper
Beef Jerky. Happy Friday. We're live here in New York City.
I'm Jamier at all. There is Kyle Brandt, there is
Brian Leif, and there is Sean o'harraw. Okay, so we're
not sure where Peter is. That's okay, that's what a
happy Friday to him. Jason McCarty is still in Germany
preparing for the broadcast the second of two games in Germany. So, gentlemen,
(00:39):
I haven't had this combination of flavors at the table.
I don't think right.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yeah, no, this is the first right here, This is
the first quarterback center exchange right now. I hope you
will fumble this now. I don't know what are to
go underneath? Shotgun, we'll go, We'll go underneath.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Yeah, we definitely running the ball right in two thousand.
Speaker 5 (00:54):
And one to not get drafted in my college class.
Before we get to the the thurs Apocalypse, which is
was Panthers Bears last night, before we get to the highlight,
go around the table really quick. Do you think that
this Panthers Bears highlight package includes any shots of Tyson
Beaijan's arm wrestling father Leaf.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Three of them, probably three.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
I'm gonna say no, no, yes, one one there.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
He has one heard all got it right?
Speaker 6 (01:20):
That is no agent, the world champion arm wrestler. Hey, Tyson,
have a day.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
The Bears win.
Speaker 6 (01:27):
To get to three and seven.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
You know the Bears there five hundred over the last
six games, just saying sixteen and thirteen. But let's hear
from Tyson beagents and Matt Eberfluse. After a damn prime
time Bears win at home.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
There's just a full team effort.
Speaker 7 (01:43):
You know. I think that we had our mishaps in
on offense, but I think that's just why football is
such a special game, because you got to do it
in all three phases. So I thought defense was outstanding.
I thought special teams other than the return made some
great plays. So a great team victory.
Speaker 8 (01:59):
If we do what it takes to win, which is
what we did today, you know we'll win more games.
And uh, you know, when you take care of the
football and you do a good job of that, and uh,
you know, play conpromary football as we did today at times,
you're gonna win some games.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Okay, Okay, Now that was a Tyson Beaging experience because
it was what we expected. But we had to wait
and see if Justin Fields was going to be available
to the Bears. He was not, so Beijing goes out and
has to win on a close one.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
What do we think of Thursday night Football?
Speaker 9 (02:30):
Well, I do think that Matt Eberflus felt like they
this was a game they could win without Justin Fields,
and therefore they held him out given that like extra
mini buy to keep getting healthy to come back. So
I think that was in the mindset of the Chicago Bears.
You pointed it out this this xes in the back
and forth that you're not going to get better if
you can just keep trading UH players to and from.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
The top of the talk too bad teams. Right, that's
not gonna That's not a swamp and spits innovational thing
moving forward.
Speaker 9 (03:01):
So for Bryce Young, okay, I thought the broadcast did
a good job last night of showcasing the number one
overall picks, some of the greatest of all time, and
how they struggled early on in their career in terms
of records. Why, because when you're drafted that high, you
do not go to good football teams. Okay, they are
exceedingly bad football team. That's the reason why you have
(03:21):
the chance to draft somebody like Bryce Young. But what
I will say about Young in his development so far
is that they're not using a ton of motion to
give him some different looks to be to identify man
in his own coverage. They're also not calling plays I
think that allow him to really showcase where he can.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Go with the football.
Speaker 9 (03:41):
Instead, he's having to go through a progression and all
of a sudden on that play that we saw to
end the game, almost they had a dropping defensive end
that fell right out of his eyesight where he almost
shows an interception. So you know, Frank Reich's got to
feel a little like this has been a difficult thing
for everybody, but hey, what he's been in as a
head coach over the last one five years, it's not
been great, and so Bryce Young is falling into a
(04:04):
position right now. Unfortunately, no matter how bad they are,
they're not gonna have the number one overall draft pick
because of what they traded away to get Bryce Young.
I don't and I talked about it yesterday with you guys.
The data for me is a huge part of this.
You have to have more data. You just you got
to continue to let it play out and see what
it is. You cannot jump to conclusions. The kid has
(04:24):
been great his entire career. It just may be a
lot of times. Like I say, it depends on where
you go to.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
I hope, at least for his sake, that Stroud doesn't
have seven hundred yards against the Bengals this week, because
that's gonna get tough. You mentioned there's this weird incestual
relationship between the Bears and the Panthers that keeps going.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
And it's deeper than you thought.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
If you're a Bears fan, and I know there are
some of you who are thinking we won, it's kind
of bad, right, Like, don't we want to lose so
we can draft these guys.
Speaker 6 (04:49):
It's not as bad as you think.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
This is a weird dynamic, So in beating the Panthers,
they actually help themselves in the draft. It's very complicated.
I'm gonna try to get through it. Here's the draft
outlook for this year. Remember the Bears have the Panthers
pick because they traded DJ Moore. They have the number
one pick, so in beating them, they send them to
one in eight, So the Bears are on the clock.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
Even with the win, they have the number one pick
right now.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
If they had lost, then Carolina would go to two
and seven, and then the Cardinals would be in the
number one pick. So leave this up here for a second,
right now. If the season ends this way, the Bears
can go and they can draft Marvin Harrison junior, they
can draft a quarterback and say see you later, or
for the second straight year, they can trade the number
one overall pick. Looking at this list, guys, once we
(05:34):
get down to the nady gritty of who's getting up
with the worst record, I don't think it's gonna be
the Cardinals. They've played hard all year and they're gonna
insert Kyler Murray're probably gonn get some wins.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
Sean, the Giants, I don't know what's going on there.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
I mean, this weekend they're starting Tommy DeVito, they have
no quarterback.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
And then the Patriots. God, you would hope not.
Speaker 5 (05:49):
But if I'm a Bears fan, I'm terrified of the Giants.
I'm a little scared of the Patriots. But right now
we have the one and the five and last night,
despite you maybe wanting to lose, which taking her of
It was actually a net positive because of the trade
that Ryan Poles made with the Panthers.
Speaker 6 (06:05):
So feel good. You gotta win and you got a
draft win. Happy day.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Wow, I'm trying to think of the story too behind.
The Bears won the final game of the season, right,
it was that lovely smith.
Speaker 6 (06:15):
The Bears lost lost one.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Yeah, I mean it's all just yeah, it's all circular. Yeah,
that was a deep dove right there. You said you liked.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Oh there you go.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
Imagine if the Bear's end up a number one pick
and trade it to the Panthers again, Like, what are
we gonna do with this relationship? At least point there
used to be somebody else to influx some players here.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
It feels like Will Ferrell in Old School when he
just gives back the breadmaker as a gift, like.
Speaker 6 (06:36):
Every time gift.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
It's a regifting relationship.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
I feel like, you know, at some point, if you
were Carolina last night and you're watching you know, DJ
Moore streaking down the sideline making fun plays like oh wow,
you know, it would be nice for Bryce Young to
have that guy, or deanhay Foreman, who I thought really
was the.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
MVP of the game last night.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
And when you asked if we're going to see Baigent's dad,
I was trying to think what throw would they show
him after they didn't score off this touchdown. If it
wasn't for Dantey Foreman, I mean, there would be zero
touchdowns other than the pump return, so only one offensive
touchdown all night. It was a slug fast. I mean,
this was an arm wrestling match and they were at stalemate.
They were both just want them to move. It looked
like the pole, which is where you start. That's when
(07:15):
you start wrestling matches called the pole and.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
You put your hands.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
There were no turnovers in this game, but like nobody
said start game, nobody said go but that guy right there,
Deontay Foreman, I thought that he helped.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Anytime you can have that's all you know.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
When you're a meathead, you just got to go full
throttle all the time. You know a little something about
being a rookie quarterback in the league, and when you
have a run game.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
It certainly helps out.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I know we're talking about the Bears because they won
last night, but I really feel like there was a
different winner last night. I hadn't really had nothing to
do with the game what do you I don't know
if you guys saw, but there was a really handsome
guy in the booth with Alan Kirk. I think the
winner of the night really was clearly Jason Kelcey.
Speaker 6 (07:52):
Kelsey is on his.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Bye week, obviously, the birds are on the bye and
you want to talk about somebody turning a complete one eighty.
There he is as fast batman on the left to
now is being named a finalist for one of the
Sexiest Men Alive.
Speaker 10 (08:04):
Like, I don't know how.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
This happened, but Kelsey in the booth.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Maybe it's a preview of what is to come in retirement,
but I thought he actually won the show last night.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
That's interesting, Jamie. You're here to Center stick together, are you?
And all your friends and the husband are then like,
man that.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
Jason Kelsey is sexy as hell, because they're not saying
that in my neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
The definition of sexy is relative. So what people what
I'm seeing on the Talk if you will, is that
people are appreciating the Kelsey documentary for the relationship that
he has with his wife, Kylie, and how relatable it
is as Kylie is, she's like a former college athlete
and she gives him crap all the time.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
It's awesome.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
So I think his relatability, his humility, and his accessibility
to his brother who is dating the world's most famous
pop star, is what's sexy to him. If I had
to define, if I had.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Not the beard and not the fact that, well, let's keep.
Speaker 6 (08:53):
Talking about football. Sex used to mean, as you know,
it did, what happened, we brought it back.
Speaker 9 (08:58):
I'm glad, just glad that we're moving away from apps.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Okay, just me drive the train back onto the track.
Speaker 11 (09:07):
Share.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
So I feel like there is a third or maybe
it's not a triangle, a diamond if you will, with
this whole draft pick thing between the Panthers Scrubs, because
the Texans got involved by losing that or by.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
Winning that game.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
So then they hit the number two spot and they
got c. J. Stroud and the Cardinals then retain that
other pick so they could have two first in the
top ten next year if they wanted to.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
But let's talk about c J.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Stroud, right, It's been miraculous for him from the twenty
twenty three draft until now. He takes on the Bengals
this week, which is great because he's an Ohio State guy.
How does Stroud follow his record breaking performance? Do you
guys think Ryan in Week nine against.
Speaker 9 (09:41):
Cincinnati, Well, like any quarterback in the NFL, you want
to be able to duplicate what you've done the week before,
and that's replicate it right, get better, continue to have
that consistency. You know, the week before they lose to
a winless Carolina Panthers team, turn around, come back win
in amazing fashion with CJS. So I think he's found
(10:02):
that little kind of niche where he feels comfortable and
how he prepares each and every week. The difference is
and it's going to be I think he needs to
show up in this game and have the mentality all
week long, which I bet he has. As this is
a playoff game, They're going to play a team in
the Cincinnati Bengals that has gone to the AFC Championship
in the last year as well as the Super Bowl
(10:23):
from the year before. This is a playoff caliber football
team playing at a playoff caliber level. So that's how
I would have prepared this week if I'm CJ. Stroud
to look at it in that kind of aspect of
things and try to duplicate. You're not going to be
able to meet the expectations of what you did last week.
I mean it's the first time it's ever been done
as a rookie, you know. But this defense is special
(10:43):
in Cincinnati. They present a lot of problems for offenses,
and they're going to give him some looks that he
is not necessarily familiar with, and he's got to take
them and roll with them and understand that this is
the type of game that you want to play in
ultimately in your career and have to be properly prepared for.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Yeah, I think it's it's perfect coming off of last
night's game because we saw two young quarterbacks really struggling
to kind of see the field, see the defense.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
There's a lot of scrambles.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Anytime you're seeing a quarterback kind of all of a
sudden run and not know where he's going. He probably
didn't see the blitz. And I tell you, Bigen didn't
see the blitz last night, and Bryce Young struggled with
it as well.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
You get that with rookie quarterbacks. But within it's interesting
c J. Stroud, he doesn't look like a rookie.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
He's not playing like a rookie and he's actually having
an historic record setting season. This guy's got fourteen touchdowns
on one pick, Like that doesn't happen.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Peyton Manning.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
I think most people will probably say the most prepared
college quarterback coming into the NFL was Peyton Manning. His
rookie year, he led the league interceptions, right, Like, I
mean you were front and center for all that.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Yeah, Like that couldn't have hard.
Speaker 9 (11:42):
I couldn't dealt with that as a rookie, Like mine
was bad enough, but I was like, I cut it
in half, you know, if I led the league in interceptions,
I don't know how that, yeah, But how Peyton saw
it was he saw a failure as an opportunity to
do it better the next time. And I do think
that these quarterbacks that are coming in to your point
are more properly prepared and more matured to deal with
maybe some of those negatives.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Yeah, yeah, he says, you know, every interception has a story,
and you learn from everyone. He learned a lot, but
I don't see that from CJ.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
Strauta. Like the way he's taking care of the football,
it's phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
And the other thing I'll throw in there, if you
were to look at that team and say, man, look
at all the stars around him. Not one of you
drafted Tank Dell in your fantasy draft. Not one of
you drafted Nego Collins, maybe Dalton Schultz because you needed
a tight end, and maybe and you went hard on
all the other receivers and running backs. But nobody drafted
those guys, and yet they're balling out.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
I think Damian Pierce, but he's been banged up. I
just remember Mahomes when he first got it first year
as a starter. There was a game he went at
New England and it was like the real New England,
not like the one now. It was like Brady and
Banners and everything. Through four touchdowns, like went toe for
toe with Brady and like toe to toe, totally showed up.
He lost, but it was like he's not afraid of anything,
is not intimidating anything. I just want Stroud to go
(12:50):
throw for throw with Burrow. I want him to say
I'm an adult. No more of this cute story. I
really matter. He could really announce himself. I think, honestly,
even in a loss this weekend, you can gain so
much respect and attention.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
I hope the story continues Timigo Ryans.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
It could be very interesting if the Texans can go
in there, considering who the Bengals might be without and
with more Yes, I our NFL Network insider rap sheet
injuries to look ahead to this weekend, specifically some people
that Joe Burrow likes to play football with.
Speaker 12 (13:17):
Yeah, all eyes on the Cincinnati Bengals receiving court. It
has been some good news, some bad news. Kind of
a rough week at Cincinnati when it comes to injuries.
We'll start with maybe a little better news. Jamar Chase
related really hard on his back. Couns were nailed it
on the broadcast. It's been in a lot of pain
for the last several days. He had an MR recently,
Jamar Chase has just a bruise, which just a bruise
(13:39):
is probably extremely painful, but no structural damage. That is
a good sign. He did return to practice yesterday on
a limited basis, giving him at least a chance to
play Sunday, and he has said if he could possibly go,
he will be out there. Different situation for t Higgins,
their other star receiver. He actually suffered a hamstring poll
in Wednesday's practice was officially listed as limited because he
(14:01):
had to stop midway through, did not practice yesterday, and
sources say he is expected to be out for this
Sunday's game. He is considered to be week to week
going forward, which means it is possible that he misses
more than one game. I've not been told that he
is an injured reserve candidate. That is a good sign.
So it didn't seem as of now to be an
extreme hamstring poll, but it's only one that will keep
(14:22):
him off the field on Sunday. Speaking of hamstring polls,
better news for the Minnesota Vikings. The suddenly pretty good
Minnesota Vikings, despite the fact that they are on their
third or maybe fourth I don't know, not first quarterback
here for the Vikings, justin Jefferson, their star receiver, did
return to practice this week. Do not expect him to
play on Sunday.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
It's not going to be that quick.
Speaker 12 (14:44):
But the fact that he has his practice window open
is back in the field means at least he's got
a chance next Sunday against the Broncos. A lot of
positivity now for the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Sorry rap sheet, remind me the window to activate is
a twenty.
Speaker 12 (14:59):
One twenty one days yep.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
Okay, cool, good to know for the Vikings moving forward
in November.
Speaker 6 (15:13):
Time for the lead Black Black.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
So here's a streak that may surprise some people, but
not if you've been keeping an eye on the state
of Florida, specifically the residents of Duvalcuanty. The Jacksonville Jaguars
currently had the longest active win streak in the NFL.
They said it five and they all came in the
month of November, and two of them were in London,
their last loss coming against the September twenty fourth game
(15:35):
the Texans, which, frankly, how the Texans are playing now
feels a lot less surprising than it did at the time.
This weekend, the forty nine Ers also coming off of
by just like the Jaguars are coming to town. Kyle
Shanahan certainly knows how dangerous the Jags and their quarterback
can be. Here's what the head coach at the forty
nine er said yesterday about Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 13 (15:54):
Trevor's on one of the more talented quarterbacks in this league.
He's a problem at any time. He's the height, he has,
the size, he has in that pocket, he can make
any throw, and what he can do with his legs
on any type of play, whether it's a design run
for him or just canal of the pocket and doing
off scheduled stuff, He's always a problem.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Okay, So pretty much the opposite end of this emotional
spectrum is the Jags are coming off of five straight
wins and the Niners have three straight losses heading into
their by That's not where you want to sit. What
are some things that are at stake? Do you think
for San Francisco Sean if they lose a fourth straight
and it comes at the hand of the Jaguars.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Yeah, we're going all hypothetical, you know.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
I think whenever you get on a losing streak like this,
everybody always wants to say what's wrong with the offense
and what's going with Kyle and you know this guy's
heard or whatever.
Speaker 10 (16:41):
You know.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
The forty nine ers, I always feel like the one
thing you could always count on was their defense was
going to show up and they were going to harass
the heck out of a quarterback. And I just I
don't feel like I've seen that. So I think that
the questions if they don't find a way to get
to Trevor Lawrence, if they don't find a way to
slow down Travis Etien. All of a sudden, the defense
is going to start getting some question marks and some
questionable looks from the offense too. The Minnesota Vikings game,
(17:01):
like they had zero pass rush, zero pressure on the quarterback,
and then to give up thirty one points to the Bengals.
You know, look, I just it's not something I would
have expected from this defense. I expect more. I don't
think we will be talking about them winning for straight
but and I think it will because the defens will
step up. Bosa's got three sacks on the season, Like
we're talking about him as defensive player the year with
(17:22):
three six sacks out Like, let's go get some production,
get it going, Okay.
Speaker 9 (17:25):
I think there's something to be said about, you know,
with the CBA and not having practices and holding out.
I don't care how what greater shape you stay in
if you don't have those reps in practice, it's just
not the same when you're on the football field.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
There for Nick Bosa, all right, So.
Speaker 9 (17:40):
For me, you can't dismiss that the San Francisco forty
nine Ers team was who they were for those first
four weeks of the season. Okay, they were dominant. Why
because they were healthy. The NFL is long and arduous journey. Okay,
you have to be lucky as well as good. And
when you don't get lucky and you have injuries that
affect you, that's a problem. Trent Williams is gone, Deebo
(18:02):
Samuel's been out. Brock Purdy for as much as people
have talked about him, got banged up in that Minnesota game,
and I didn't feel like was that quite right? The
defensive side of it for me. They gave Joe Burrow's
groove back. Essentially. You know, they're giving quarterbacks that feel
right now because the defense isn't what they used to be.
So this is a big game for the San Francisco
for their riers. They don't win it, it's not the
(18:23):
end of the world. It's not panic. They're playing in
a division where only the Seattle Seahawks are their only competition. Okay,
that's still gonna keep them in it. Three of these
four losses would have been on the road. If that
were to take place at home, is gonna be is
gonna be good confines for them to move forward.
Speaker 6 (18:40):
If I'm gonna put you on the spot, do you know,
do you know the line for this game?
Speaker 1 (18:44):
San Francisco's favored by three?
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Why?
Speaker 5 (18:47):
I have no idea what's going on here? In my
answer to the question, I have to kind of break
the segment.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
I don't really care.
Speaker 5 (18:52):
What's his stake for the Niners? Like, what's the stake
for the Jags. I don't know what's going on here.
You're telling me that one team hasn't won for over
a month, one team hasn't lost for six weeks. Not
only are the Niners favored, Like, we're bending over backwards
to say, what does this loss mean for the Niners?
What does win mean for the Jaguars? Is it because
the Niners are coming off a bye we haven't seen
(19:13):
a while sort of?
Speaker 1 (19:14):
The Jags?
Speaker 5 (19:15):
They're healthy, they haven't lost since September. This is one
of the best teams in the league here, the Niners
are one of the best teams of the first month.
I'm not really worried about San Francisco. Look, this taps
into a lot of things, and there is a prejudice
against Jacksonville. There always has been. It has nothing to
do with their team or their personnel. It's their market
size and it's Jacksonville and they're looked at as not sexy,
whereas San Francisco we already started making our Super Bowl
(19:37):
plans in September fifteenth and talking about how great they
are and how many Hall of Famers they have. This
is right now, not a good team versus a great team.
So I'm not even gonna answer what's the stake for
San Francisco. What's the stake for Jacksonville is? If you
do San Francisco, then you are seven and two, you're
nipping at the heels of trying to get the one
seed in the AFC, and we start to say, like, damn,
does Doug Peterson have a Super Bowl team?
Speaker 6 (19:58):
Here?
Speaker 5 (19:58):
Again is the guy he was a statue outside of Philadelphia.
You're gonna have one outside of Jacksonville someday because he
took over a disgusting cesspool of a mess after Urban
Meyer left and now may have a seven and two
team with wins over the Steelers, the Bills, the Niners,
the Saints. Like this is, I don't know, top five,
top three team in the NFL. They have it all going.
So I don't really care about San Francisco right now.
(20:21):
I care about the teams that win. Jacksonville wins. I
don't care what their population is, I don't care what
goes on in their city. That goes on in their
city is really winning football. And I don't know why
the hell Vegas has forty nine ers favorite. I listen,
you guys work in different ways and usually right. I
would never go to San Francisco on this. Jacksonville has
all the momentum, but I think they'll.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
Win the game, and it's in Jacksonville. The Fortginars are
going on the road after a w They have potential
still injuries that they are dealing with. On the flip side, Kyle,
to your point, with the Jaguars, offense has been great.
Speaker 6 (20:51):
They've been productive.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
The defense has also been shut down, and a lot
of that has to come at the hands of a
guy who just wishes they would get his name right
and know who they're talking about when they say Josh
Allen of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 9 (21:02):
I would argue the defense has been the most impressive
part of this team because the offense at times has
been stagnant. You look at the opportunity against the Saints,
they could have put them away much differently. They get
the big touchdown at the end. But Josh Allen has
quietly kind of moved up the defensive player of the
year rankings, and everybody is so young on that defense.
(21:23):
But they play with a ton of inspiring football for
their teammates and that's the biggest part in this their ability.
They went to Pittsburgh where no one gave them a
chance and they dominated. Okay, this football team is good.
Whatever London does to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and know if
it's in the water. They went there a year ago,
come back wow. This year again, they were struggling a
(21:43):
little bit, losses to Houston and Kansas City at home,
and instead they go out to London and come back
and haven't lost since. So I like the Jags in
this game. I am with you, Kyle. I have no
idea why the forty nine ers are a favored.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
This is one of.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Those fishy, fishy lines they talk about.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
Can I make a public service announcement too, when we
talk about Josh Allen of the Jaguars, you don't have
to reference that he has the same name as the
Bill's quarterback. You don't have to make a joke about it.
We've done it for years He is his own man,
He is his own player. You can't even google the guy.
You google him, a million things come up about the
Bills quarterback and the Bill's quarterback background of those quarterback girlfriend.
I want to know about the seventh overall pick in
(22:20):
twenty nineteen.
Speaker 6 (22:21):
It's fine. I know. I don't care if his middle
name is Mahomes. I don't care.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
It's Josh Allen of the Jaguars, seventh overall pick. He's
probably played better than the other Josh Allen this year.
He has got a better team right now, so I
don't care that he has the same name.
Speaker 6 (22:33):
It was cute when in the drafted stopped joking about
that it's over.
Speaker 5 (22:36):
And they beat own man, and they beat him, Josh
Allen of the Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
He's playing for some money too, so if you remember
he's a fourth year guy, a fifth year guy, excuse me.
They picked up his option last year, the Jaguars did.
Josh Allen opted to not participate in the Jags OTAs
in the spring, and it was tried to be made
off to be a story. He told us when we
were in London. He was like, I just needed to
have my alone time in Arizona train his hind off
(23:01):
and come back and he has completely changed his body.
He's doing things totally differently and you're seeing it on
the field as well. And then the media eventually in
Jacksonville started come and say this is a non story.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
We don't have to buy into this.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
So he's a totally different person and the Jaguars are
better for it.
Speaker 10 (23:17):
Offense, we moved the ball.
Speaker 14 (23:18):
We control it the way we're supposed to, except for
a couple of things.
Speaker 10 (23:21):
Protect the football, Protect the football. Those things gives you
the opportunity to win games. Continue to work hard, guys,
and again, remember the mindset. Keep the mindset where it
needs to be.
Speaker 14 (23:30):
That's about the focus is doing the little details to
win football games right.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
And if anybody knows, it's that man. He is our
next guest on the show, a longtime friend of our show,
NFL Coach of the Year, He's coached a Super Bowl,
he's won a super role as a player. I'llcome back
to the DMF commander said coach running.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
Yoh, let's go.
Speaker 10 (23:52):
Thank you, guys. How are you all doing.
Speaker 6 (23:55):
Awesome?
Speaker 2 (23:56):
We're great, We're great. We're happy to see you. We
want to talk about your team. You're sitting for five,
you're sitting one game back from the final NFC wildcard
spot right now. Now, you've been in this position before
with Washington. The makeup of this team tell us the
why behind this commander's group can get over the hump
and we'll see you playing in mid January.
Speaker 14 (24:14):
Well, you know, I think it's a young group of
guys that are really grown in developing at the same
time as our quarterback. You know, we brought Eric Bienemy
in a year ago. He's installed a new offense, and
as we've started to develop and growing it, you start
to see the performance really tick up for our quarterback
and the rest of the offense. And I think as
we come together as a team and play complimentary football,
we give ourselves a chance to win games. You know,
(24:36):
we won one Sunday. We did the things that we
needed to do as an offense and defense and special teams,
and that gave us a chance to win.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Coach Ryan here, you.
Speaker 9 (24:47):
Made a decision to start Sam Howe before the year started.
You saw enough from him a year ago. What's the
develop been like through Week nine for him as a
leader of this team, and how he's.
Speaker 10 (24:57):
Performed here, right.
Speaker 14 (25:00):
It started slowly obviously, you know, just trying to getting
his feet under him and the rest of the offense
for that matter. And so as things have gone, you've
seen the growth, You've seen the progression of his development.
You see him get better and better every time he
gets on the football field. He's getting better and better
as a player, which is helping the rest of the
offense as well, because again, you know, when everybody's on
the same page, everybody's doing the things.
Speaker 10 (25:20):
That they're capable of.
Speaker 14 (25:21):
You see the explosiveness, you see the potential and the growth.
And that's the biggest thing that we're really excited about
is that you see him continue to grow every time
he gets on that field.
Speaker 9 (25:31):
How important has Eric the Enemy's influenced been as the
offensive coordinator, you know, getting finally his chance to do
an offense all on his own, bin to Sam and
his development, you know.
Speaker 14 (25:43):
Right, I think the biggest thing is you see Eric
growing as well, you know, really being the primary decision
maker when it comes to calling the plays on the
offense and deciding what we're going to do. I've kind
of taken the approach that you know, he and I
talked about a lot of things, but really he's doing
his thing. He's been great in terms of installing what
he wants as far as what each week's game plan
has been and trying to get across a messaging to
(26:05):
the players and how we're going to use and how
effective we can be doing those things. So it's been
a real positive growth for both those guys and for
the Offensive Union under Eric banem Before us, you.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Know, Ryan, you're such a good friend of the show.
I hate that there is tension between the Commanders and
Good Morning Football, but there is, and.
Speaker 6 (26:24):
We're going to address it right now.
Speaker 5 (26:25):
You've given us some crap about this before, John, what
do you got let's get into it.
Speaker 14 (26:30):
Well, the biggest problem, so anything else is I just
don't get it. How many angry runs does our guy
have to have before you guys realize recognize his potential
and his ability. I mean, the least he could have
gotten is at least half a scepter.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
At least he gets bold.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
Listen, here's the thing, Ron, You're not wrong, and in fact,
you're running back.
Speaker 6 (26:49):
You're talking about Brian Robinson Jr. Came on the show
and was beside himself. We even have a clip about it,
like he wants the thing and he's mad at us.
Listen to this, I don't have.
Speaker 11 (26:59):
No choice to end up with one eventually, Like, eventually,
you gonna have to give me one. I mean, you know,
I know how to vote and stuff. Go uh, I can't.
I can't sit up here and vote on myself. I'm
pretty sure you know, if the fans could vote, you know,
somebody would you know, vote for me.
Speaker 6 (27:15):
But you're gonna eventually have to give me.
Speaker 11 (27:17):
One, you know, because I'm going I'm gonna continue to run.
I'm gonna continue to run Ingram.
Speaker 6 (27:24):
Well, he remember that he's not kidding.
Speaker 10 (27:27):
Go ahead, good, yeah, but no, he's not kidding.
Speaker 14 (27:29):
But remember this now, our offensive coordinator, our running back
coach both played in the league. So those guys say,
there's a little bit of pride there because all three
of those guys wanted badly.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
How are we going to solve this ron because if
you feed the guy, I'll try to get it over
the goal line.
Speaker 6 (27:43):
But we got to fix this thing, like as soon
as now this week.
Speaker 10 (27:47):
Oh yeah, well.
Speaker 14 (27:47):
He'll get his opportunity this week and from here on out,
he's getting opportunities.
Speaker 10 (27:51):
That's for darn sure.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
All right, full scepter, no half so good. No, we're
talking about Ron Rivera. All right, he's full throng. He
doesn't never want to happen anything. He wants the whole
kid in kaboodle and check me if I'm wrong, Sandy.
But you've got to win the football game, begin cept
it right.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Yeah, that's a huge component of this.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
So what better way to win than to win the
center than to go on the road in Seattle lot
and tote the rock. As a former offensive lineman, two
things are portable, right, the great defense at a great
run game. So, coach, I know you're gonna you're gonna
be giving him lots of opportunities. I want to ask
you about going into Seattle. I've played there numerous times.
It is a nightmare. You can't hear a thing, you
can't hear yourself think. So I'm curious as we as
(28:30):
you're heading out to a Friday practice today, you've got
your short yardage, goal line, red zone, two minute offense.
What are you doing to prepare for that crowd noise
that you're going to encompass against Seattle.
Speaker 14 (28:41):
Well, you know we've been preparing for it all year,
and really, you know, every time that we practice, we've
got the sound going for whichever stadium we go into.
Speaker 10 (28:50):
And we know Seattle is very special.
Speaker 14 (28:51):
Coach Carroll's done a tremendous job there and we you know,
we've matched up several times and they've been heck of
great battles every time we do get on the football
field against each other. So I'm expecting a very good game,
expecting an exciting game. And it's a great atmosphere when
you go to Seattle, so we're excited. But like I said,
we've been practicing with the noise going constantly. You know,
everything has been about sign the communication, so I think
(29:14):
our guys are getting used to it. But you know,
nothing really prepares you until you step into that arena there.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
All right, real quick for crowd noise at practice? Do
you play music or do you just play static noise?
Speaker 10 (29:27):
We played both.
Speaker 14 (29:28):
We got everything going because you know, quite honestly, there
the atmosphere there can be anything from the booze to
the cheers to the music that they play as well,
So we're trying to simulate it as close as we.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Can, attention to detail right to cover all the decibel levels,
and the options coach cocredulations as an order. The NFL
recently announced this nominations for the twenty twenty three Salute
to Service Award, presented by USAA. You were the twenty
twenty two honoree. Please explain the significance of this award
to you, what the initiative means you think, to the
(30:00):
league and your team and everyone in your life.
Speaker 14 (30:03):
Well, for me personally, you know, my father served in
the United States Military, and so winning it was really
kind of a neat deal because my dad really got
a big thrill out of it as well. So that
was really a cool honor last year. And I really
appreciate you USA, you know, for honoring me with that.
But I will say for us in the Washington, d C. Community,
it's a big deal because we're really at the center
(30:24):
and the focal point of the United States Military with
the Pentagon so close to us and so many of
the other military installations. You know, our this year nominee
is Chris Bailey. Chris is retired military. He works for
the organization does so much work for us involved with
the with the Salute of Service Month, and so we're
excited about all the different things that we have planned
for the rest of this month going forward.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Congratulations to Chris. When you speak on stuff like this
in terms of league initiatives and whatnot, people really listen,
so I'm sure everyone appreciates it. Congratulations on that award
last year. We love talking to you. Good luck this weekend,
all right with your earplugs in.
Speaker 10 (31:01):
I appreciate it, guys, Thank you very much.
