Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Yeah, we found them. It's QB one with the LA Chargers.
Practice maybe ended an hour ago. Justin Herbert greeting a fan, stretching,
making sure to get your lift in. How's your body
feeling this offseason?
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Doing well.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
You know, thankfully we've got such a great you know,
strength staff that really take you know, full advantage of
all the great equipment and programs we have here. And yeah,
heading into the season feeling good.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Yeah. No, So they're talking about what happened after practice.
You guys are doing conditioning and I haven't seen that
from a team ever where everybody split up and was
doing a little bit different conditioning. Talk to us about that.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Yeah. So they gave us four options of what kind
of conditioning drills we want to do, based on you know,
how you feel and whether it's acceleration, whether it's you know,
straight cardio or long distance riders. It's just picking something
that you feel that you need to work on and
giving us that opportunity.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
And what is the thing that you like to work on?
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Cardio? So you're running twenty five yards and backing it's
just long drives.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
We're thinking long drives, heating up a lot of clock.
You got to have your cardio up, yep.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Got to be able to run the ball, you know,
get back to the side, do everything we can.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
So I've had a lot of conversations, like I said,
with a bunch of teammates, some people in the training room,
and they said, justin that you are on a whole
nother level. Khalil Mack said himself. He's like, Bro, I've
been in this league for a long time and I
have never seen somebody this locked in. Look this way.
What switched for you? Justin? What was that turning point
for you? Where now you have guys around you It's
(01:27):
like Bro's he's on a whole another level.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Yeah, well, I appreciate that, you know, And that's awfully
nice of Khalil to say. And I think it's really
easy for us to take a look at that him
because we've got guys like Derwin James and like you know,
Khalil Mack leading the charge, and you know, there's nothing
but to be locked in like that. They demand that
from everyone, and you know that's my responsibility as a quarterback,
as the leader on this team, you know, to give
everything that I have. Obviously didn't go our way, and
you know, no one feels worse than I did last year.
(01:50):
But we had a great opportunity to come back this offseason,
put on put in all this work, another chance to
go play football.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
We got an opportunity to talk to your head coach
today and always an enlightening conversation when you talk to
Jim Harbaugh, What are some you know, Justice says, take
my microphone saying after practice as all nice, it's justin's face, Carol,
(02:18):
you want us to ask.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
This person a question.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Instead, we spoke with Jim Harbaugh and he's just so
high on what you bring to the team. But I
am wondering about how you yourself have changed the way
you've tried to push your teammates. You know, you're trying
to get everybody lifted to a point of a playoff win,
of pushing into the playoffs. How have you maybe changed
(02:42):
the way that you are approaching your teammates to make
sure that you guys are the new standard in the league.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Yeah, and it starts with what we did last year.
You know, I thought we did a lot of great
things last year. And you know, there's still so much
room for improvement for us and especially me at quarterback
and everything that I can do offensively, and having a
second year in this offense, you know, we're already steps
ahead of where we were last year, and now it's
just fine tuning that, really understanding exact actually what Greg
Roland wants when he calls a certain play. And I
think we've done a great job of that in OTAs
(03:09):
and heading into camp so far, it's just building off
of that.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Just so, what are your goals? What are your goals
for this year? Because I'm pushing with GMFB, we just
had a segment yesterday Orre, I'm pushing for you as
a candidate to be the MVP. That's how much of
a fan I am of Justin Herbert. But what are
your goals personally going into this year?
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Yeah, I've always tried to stay away from statistical goals.
You know, I think if you want to include wins,
I think wins are our number one priority, winning as
many games as we can and scoring touchdowns. And if
we're doing that as an offense, and if I'm doing
that as a quarterback, then we're gonna have a lot
of success. You know, whether it's passing yards, you know, touchdowns, completions,
you know, it really just comes down to wins and
scoring touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
We were marveling at the sheer size of the line
on both sides the ball during practice. Is this the
most proud you've been of the group in front of you?
Maybe just from the fact that you're like, I got
some guys that are going to protect me.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Yeah, they've done such a great job. And what makes
it even better is they're great guys, you know, hanging
out and out offensive line room. Uh, you know, they're
they're they're really close. You know, they communicate really well.
Bose the scene every single front that there is the
see and I just feel comfortable back there. You know,
I have a really tough time see over the right
side of all. That's a good problem to have though.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah. Well we'll ended off talking about your head coach.
He loves you. How excited are you going into year
two with him? Historically he does a magnificent job with
his quarterbacks into year two. I'm excited about that for you.
But how excited are you working with coach Jim Harmball
in your in your second year with him?
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Yeah, we just want to make him proud. You know,
he's done so much for this team and he just
wants to win. And I think that's the best thing
about him, is competitive spirit. And you know, as long
as we're listening to him, following him, I know that
we're gonna have a lot of success.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
He might not love you as much as Matti does
holding his cutout of your face during this entire interview.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
I'm Matt, sorry bringing justin Herbert we need.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Yeah, I'll start smiling.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Thank you for joining us.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Thank you guys so much.
