Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio twenty one seasons CSI couldn't do it,
Gun Smoke, couldn't do it. This guy's been on the
air as long as Gray's Anatomy. It is number eight
for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Aaron Rodgers, what's up, dude? That
sounds kind of weird, isn't it?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Doesn't it?
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Gray's Anatomy is still on too, still on. That's impressive.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
How's life?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
It's good.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
I didn't know what to expect getting here last Tuesday,
checking to the dorms, realizing I was sharing a bathroom
in a shower. But man, I missed it, I really did.
I missed. We did this for fourteen years in Green
Bay at shout out to Saint Norbert's College, Acrosstown.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
And it's fun.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
You know, there's no excuse for anybody not to hang out.
So the night times are real fun. We get done
at a reasonable hour, unlike back in the day, so
we got plenty of time to talk ball in life.
And I'm just enjoying being up here at the trope
and had a new challenge with the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
I'm always amused by the adventures that you go on
right the fourth grade essay, What I did on my
summer vacation.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
What do you got?
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Oh? Man?
Speaker 4 (01:14):
It was a long spring. I had a lot on
my plate in the spring, but once I came out
to Pittsburgh for Mini Camp, I was excited about the opportunity.
So from the day Mini Camp in ind I mean,
Oakmont was in town for the open, you know, but
I flew home and got right back to working out.
I took a little week break to go to Tahoe
(01:35):
like I do every year for the American Central Championship,
and then other than that, I was just training, working
out at the guys out for a couple of days.
Got to show him the ocean and Nobu, which they enjoyed.
But yeah, I was just thinking about this and trying
to get ready for this. I didn't know how hot
it was going to be.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Uh huh. It's frigging out out here. But it's been fun, man.
I like the guys.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
I love Coach t I mean he's everything that you
expected he would be and then a whole lot more.
So I'm enjoying my time. I just wanted to be
fun again. I wanted to get back to love and again.
And it's been a good few days so far.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Before I get the coach t what made more of
an impression on the guys, the ocean or Nobu.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Well, it was it was a combination. Because we were sitting
down at Nobu. We got like the perfect table kind
of outside, and I said, Cal, you and Scottie and
and Roman, you guys look out at the ocean. I've
been here before. Me and Ben were sitting on the
other side of the table. And so at one point,
about midway through dinner, the dolphins, dolphins start going by
(02:34):
for real, and Cal couldn't believe it. He'said, oh my gosh.
And one of the guys said, do they they pay
him to do that? So yeah, they do big money.
They got them training and they got to round him
up and bring him back for the next night.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
That's incredible, And we had to get bond started.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
That's yeah. We had a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Oh man, I am.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
I'm fascinated by these Timelin conversations because you've said, you know,
then everyone needs to hear it because of Mike.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
I talked to Mike earlier.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
What was he saying on these conversations to get you
to say, I'm in another offense, another team, all of
this work.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
What was he saying? What was the message of a social.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
It was honestly more about what he wasn't saying. At
no point during the conversations, which were weekly at least,
did I ever feel like I was talking to a
coach who needed something from me. I need you to
give me this, give me that, give me an answer,
give me. It was always it was like you're talking
to an old friend, and I just at my age
(03:29):
in my experience, I just really appreciated that I respected,
you know how he talked to me a conversation, getting
to know him, and hearing about his schedule and who's
important his life, and him asking me and him remembering
important things about my life too. It really made an
impression on me. I never once felt like I was
talking to a coach who might have been talking to me,
(03:51):
you know, small talk, but was really wanting to be like, hey,
when you come in, when are you coming in? When
you so I just appreciated that it was like talking
to an old friend and hearing him in the team meetings.
It's been really cool. He talks to the team every
day and it's the real, real stuff. And I'm just
really enjoying his personality on the field.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
I can tell there's real love.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Yeah, it's probably a nice for you too, to talk
to someone who's born before nineteen ninety four.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Right, Yeah, exactn't hurt. I mean you start talking about
dates and stuff, and yeah, you know. I was talking
about two thousand and seven in the locker room with
some of the guys and I said, hey, you know, Mason,
were you in two thousand and seven?
Speaker 3 (04:26):
He's like, well, I was. I was four. I was like,
oh my gosh. It was in the car seat, qb
oh Man. But I like it. I enjoyed being being
an old guy in the room.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Well you're good at it and you wear it. Well.
You've heard me say this before.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Jim Carrey had this quote when he was thinking about retiring,
and Jim Carrey said, I've done enough.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
I have enough. I am enough.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
As a fan of yours, that was how I felt
about you last year twenty.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Years started retire.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
I did you, Yeah, I'm ready.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
You weren't ready? You and DeShawn Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
DeShawn too.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
I didn't follow that, but I'm like, I've seen enough
he's amazing, He's done everything.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Is there enough for you? Though? Why not?
Speaker 4 (05:06):
I fell in love with this game when I was
six years old, and I wanted to have that closure
and get back to the game one more time the
way that it's given to me. As I thought about
my life, Really, everything special in my life is because
of this game, and that's not hyperbole. The relationships that
(05:28):
I have, the friendships that I have, the people that
are really important in my life, the money and the
fame and the good parts of those and the good
feeling is because of this game. I love this game
and I want to give back to it one more
time and have fun with it. And I just felt
like this is what I was supposed to do.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
To that point.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
I did a project recently good Morning Football, where I
looked at all of the players who got married in
the offseason in this era, and across the board, overwhelmingly,
the next football season they play were incredible, like career
highs across the board. And I don't think it's a coincidence,
including guys you know, like Davonte, you showed up and
said you got married in the off season. How does
(06:13):
it change how you feel as a man? And how
might it affect your play?
Speaker 3 (06:19):
How much time do you have?
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Whatever you want? Buddy, it's you.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
You know, when you meet the right one and you're
with the right one, your whole world changes in a second.
And to have that person that unconditionally loves you behind
the scenes, there's no better feeling in the world. And
I got the most incredible way. I just really love
(06:44):
her and I'm I'm so thankful to have her by
my side at the end. When you have that stability
and that rock behind you at the house, you feel
like you can do anything.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
You played this season for her and you to get here.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Yeah, for us, it's beautiful.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
I'm very very happy for you, very happy. Genuinely.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
We can't let you go with I'm always very amused, Aaron,
by your observations of the media. Okay, everybody's gona get
a little squirrelly now because someone had a nuclear take
on you. Terry Bradshaw Number twelve from the Steelers. Terry
Bradshaw says, Rogers to the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
I wrote it down because I want to get ready.
It's a joke.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Stay in California, chew on bark and whisper to the gods.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
I whispered to the gods every single day.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Damn right.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
I've known Terry for a long time and being a
part of Fox, Terry's a legend. He's an absolute legend.
He won four Super Bowls, He's had a legendary career
in the media. But Terry, like a lot of people,
doesn't know me, and so he's got an idea of
what he thinks about me based on what I've done,
(08:02):
the documentary, what I've said, arkinister treet, whatever the hell
you want.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
To talk about. I'd love to get to knowe Terry
on a deeper level.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
And I feel like if he gave me a chance
to get to know him, then we'd have a good friendship.
Because for me, I have nothing but the utmost amount
of respect and deference for what the greats have done,
because they laid the foundation for us to be able
to play in this great game, to be paid like kings,
and to carry on the tradition of excellence that guys
(08:30):
like the Bradshaws of the world in the seventies and
Bart Starr in the sixties, and Lombardy and Joe Montana
and Steve Young and Troy Aikman and Brett Favre and
all the greats that have been over Tom Brady. You know,
we're standing on the backs of those guys, and it's
because of how they played and how they carried themselves.
They were able to have this opportunity to still play
(08:51):
this great game, to get paid really well, to set
ourselves up for our future. So I'd love to get
to know Terry on a deeper level, if he's open
to it, and maybe we can go choose some bark
or whatever the hell he's talking about together.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Sounds like fun. Yeah, that's in with a laugh. I
that was a laugh. This is a bigger one.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Okay, that was I literally laughed out loud when I
looked at the Steelers schedule, literally and that the Steelers,
the schedule makers, the NFL had zero chill. What was
your response when you're like, all right, my first game
as the Steelers quarterback is going to be at Jet
Life Stadium against the administration who released me.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
I mean that's the way I go sometimes, you know.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Of course, now, did they have any inside information, I
don't know who were they talking to.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
I'd love to know.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
But to start off and I look at it deeper,
you know, start off with the Jets. Didn't play Seattle
where DK just came from. Go to Chicago, which I
mean obviously we're playing MC north can go to Chicago,
Green Bay in h in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Yes, some weird uniforms though, it'd be strange.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
And then I was hoping to get too NFC North
Road games, but we're doing the other one in UH
in Ireland.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
But I'm excited.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
You know, we get to play to play the Jets,
play the Packers again, play the Bears, play the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
It'll be fun.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
It's gonna be really fun.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Sorry, end the lines as well of course, and alliance.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Yeah, so many memories with everybody. That's twenty one years.
You wear it well man, season twenty one. Pittsburgh Steelers
quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It's fun to say, it's fun to
see you in the colors.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
It's trained to say, but it's fun to say as well.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah, it's getting more and more fun as the day
goes by. It's early still, but guys, that's it.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
This is I, in my opinion, the best quarterback you
ever played the position and a real dude.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Aaron Rodgers. Great to see you as always, you too,
go
