Speaker 2 (00:10):
Happy Friday, Everybody bout of it'side Good Morning Football present
by Old Dropper. Beef Jerky Friday, October third, It's a
sweatshirt Friday. It's a BG Friday. It's if you tried
to predict what was going to happen in the beginning
of week five on thursdaynight football kind of Friday, you
would have been wrong. I'm Jamie rd Autmantai Teo here
in Los Angeles, across the street from when the game
went down last night. Kyle Brant is joined by Eagles
(00:33):
legend Brandon Graham. Kyle, how are we doing out there?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
I'm doing I'll fit the FOD doing five, doing new
five is doing great.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Listen, We're all doing great because we had a wild
football game last night. We're gonna see how the fate
of the Niners compares to the fate of Ophelia right
after this, all kinds of things going on. Let's start
the show, d all the way look through it.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Let's go Lake a Beacon.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Welcome to Good Morning Football, presented by Old Trapper. Yeah,
that's right. Welcome inside GMF. Beat, Jamie Mantai, Brandon Graham,
Kyle grant La and New York Who got you covered
ahead of the slates of games on Sunday of week five?
We always do Mad Minute on a Friday. We cover
what happened on Thursday night. And just to answer everybody's question,
(01:29):
which I know they are very curious about. This morning,
the new Taylor Swift album came out at midnight. I've
already listened to it one and a half times through
twelve songs forty two minutes. My personal favorites right now
are tracks one and twelve. Any other questions from the crowd.
Speaker 5 (01:42):
I do confirm that she just said that. Yeah, Jamie,
I listen.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
We're at week five of the NFL, but I'm personally
only on track three of the Life of a Show Girl.
I like opal Lite a lot. It's track three. It
feels kind of retro. I like my Taylor upbeat, high energy,
So listen, Niners Rams was great. How are you feeling
less than twelve hours since the release of the end
of the Taylor album.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
I feel great. Let me know when you get to
track nine. Would it's upbeat, it's poppy, and it's a
little inappropriate and if you know the person in which
she is referencing in the lyrics, you're like, I feel
like I'm already involved in this relationship a little bit
too much, and then I'm more than I want to be.
So let me know when you get to track nine. Kyle,
this is like when you introduce.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Me to Caxavi. You're worthy.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
We'll find out, Randy, if you listen to the Taylor
album Yet, Nah, I was sleeping, you usually Aredy's awake today.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Listen.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
There's a lot to get in from last night. So
let's go to forty nine Ers Rams right across street
so By Stadium. Rams have won three straight against the Niners,
but everybody on the Niners was hurt, including rock parties.
That means McCorkell mac jones is back. If the Niners
stop him, the.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Game is over.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
And guess what, folks, the game is over.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
A game winning.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Walk off stop in over time on fourth and one,
stonewalled McVay shakes his head, Bob Solid scream in his
beautiful bub domof and Kyvin Williams after the goal line
bumble gets stopped. On fourth and one, Freddy Warner's throwing
a party. They just walked into so By with the
C team and beat the Rams twenty six, twenty three
(03:15):
on Mac Jones Knight.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
All kinds of sound bites.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
We're gonna hear from Kyron, We're gonna hear from McVeigh.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
But first winning.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Quarterback Max Jones cosplaying.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
And Harvey two face go ahead.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
Like that was a great play. But it's big hand
in there and made a play. But I was just
ready for not to be a negative, but just I
was ready to play overtime, to be honest, and they
just made a great play and that would have or
I would have been have to go out there again
and try and score.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
So it was good.
Speaker 7 (03:44):
I'm pretty sick right now. I'm sick of the spot
that I put our group in to end the game.
But hey, these are the tough beats that you got
to be able to learn from and move forward, and
that's what we're gonna do. I'm sick right now because
I put our players spot and I got to live
with that.
Speaker 8 (03:58):
Y I just got to hold onto the ball, you know.
I feel like the team down at the one yard line,
you know, not you know, secure one thing that matters
and you know what's going to touchdown. So for me,
I just you know, I put this all on me,
honestly and just knowing that I could be better.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
What happened on that fourth down call there?
Speaker 8 (04:13):
Oh no, he's gotta, you know, keep my legs driving,
run behind people, and you know in the yard that
we need be all made mistakes. But you know, I
feel like mine was the one that let the team down.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
You hate to see that scene out of Tyre Williams.
We appreciate the honest analysis out of the head coach,
out of the running back. I would love some honest
analysis from Mac Jones on just everything that happened to
him last night, from the highs to the lows. Manti
Football players can look so cool sometimes, like Fred Warner
celebrating with the put it off, but that pants situation
that was awkward, but whatever. A win's a win. Thursday
Night Football delivered.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
Yeah, I'm gonna give you some honest analysis.
Speaker 9 (04:46):
No, guys, the San Francisco Fortnighters had no business winning
that game last night.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
No business.
Speaker 9 (04:52):
Tell me, guys, tell me what team in the NFL
can you take out the franchise quarterback, take out all
the starting receivers, take out the franchise tight end, the
franchise rusher. I have a rookie corner covering some of
the the best receivers in the game, and you still
win the game.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
There is no way.
Speaker 9 (05:08):
I remember when I played, I hated when coaches would say, Hey,
we have nothing to lose in this game.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
I hated when.
Speaker 9 (05:14):
Coaches would say that, why, because that alluded that we
had no chance. I wouldn't even blame Kyle Shanahan yesterday
if he had that kind of speech to his team
in the locker room.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
Because it was fitting. But the fact that they came.
Speaker 9 (05:26):
Out there and they sustain drives the way they did,
they had the time of positions that they had. I
don't know if it's a great thing for San Francisco
forty nine Ers players because Kyle Shanahan just demonstrated again
that he can win with anybody, or if it's a
great thing because there's no person, one person that you
can look at this game and say, Man, they want
because of that person, or they want because of that group.
(05:48):
This was from the top down. John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan,
you can Mac Jones, Kendrick Bourne, Fred Warner, I mean, who.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Do you where do we want to go with this?
Speaker 9 (05:57):
Because I just thought it was such a gutsy performance
by the San Francisco forty nine ers to come up
to be away last night after a short week, after
a week where you just lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars,
to show up the way they did, to play the
way that they that they played with him with some
enthusiasms and energy, like we ain't flinching, like you saw
how Fred Warner ran off, he threw his helmet off,
(06:20):
Like we did what we came to do, We did
what we knew we could do, and there was ultimate
belief in each other.
Speaker 5 (06:25):
So KB, when I looked at this.
Speaker 9 (06:26):
Game, I couldn't help but smile at all the big
plays that the San Francisco fort Niners.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
Made, but more importantly, all the small ones that were.
Speaker 9 (06:34):
Comfortable with making, like Okay, I'll go three three yards here,
you can give me three yards, I'll take it.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
That was an awesome win for the Niners, like full
full gut check on the road, a game everybody's hurt.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
You know the story.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
I'm sitting here yesterday on the show saying, does Kyle
Shanahan screaming do a pillow at night about all these injuries,
and then the same day he goes into sofar beats
his buddy and is triumphantly walking off the field. Kyle
Shannon has a great coach. The Niners are not just
the team, They're an organization. They're a varsity team. They're
not the JV They're not up and comers. Like one
of those teams you can't ever just disregard. They have
(07:07):
something in their fabric that knows how to compete. Damn
Mac Jones, like Mac Jones, God blessed you man. That
was an awesome, awesome night. Mac Jones is three and
oh is the starter this year. Mac Jones. Do you
even know where he was last year? Can you remember
anything about Mac jones tenure with the Jacksonville Jaguars. It
was like it didn't exist and it didn't happen. And
now he's in one of the prestigious franchise in the league,
(07:28):
going three and zero. I feel like he's got this
thing to him. He's like, I'm hurt, I'm busted up.
I really have nothing to lose, though, I'm just gonna
play lose. I'm gonna chuck it around, I'm gonna wear
a ridiculous outfit.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Because who cares.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
I don't care.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
I'm a backup.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
I know I'm going back to the bench when this
is over. I might as well throw it around. And
mac Jones, guys, is putting together a Sam Darnold year.
I mean Sam Donald as a whole backup for one
year to brock perty under Kyle Shanahan. If mac Jones
doesn't start another game this year, like, I don't know
where he's going next year. And he's looked great, He's
looked like someone that you want to bring in. It's
just it was really really impressive and huge respect to
(08:01):
the forty nine ers. Let us all remind ourselves the
next time it looks like the forty nine ers are
screwed or two injured, just remember on this night. On
the other hand, before we get to VG, Oh my god,
what a terrible Rams loss. I didn't think the Rams
had this cin them. I routinely, routinely say, you guys
know this, Sean mcvah, I think is the best coach
in the NFL, the best coach in the NFL. Last
night was one of, if not the worst loss of
(08:23):
his career. Terrible, just terrible, inexcusable stuff.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
Happened.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Kyron Williams ridiculous football with the goal line. Their backup
running back Blake horm had a terrible fumble two and
then you hear McVeagh afterwards saying how sick he is.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
This was it?
Speaker 1 (08:37):
You go for it in overtime and on a fourth
and one, you just like you run a play from
nineteen fifty five, you just halfback dive more or less
right up the middle into six different brick walls, including
Fred Warner. Everybody hated the Blake call. Everybody thought it
was the wrong call. Everyone was disgusted with the call.
And by I say everyone, I mean McVay McVeigh said,
(09:00):
what was I doing with that call?
Speaker 5 (09:01):
It never had a chance.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
You're handing into the guy who just thumped on the
goal line, and it's just that should have had a
better ending than that. I mean, that absolutely was awful,
and all the reasons with the Niners hurt and you're
at home and you have a chance if you're the Rams.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
To go to four and one.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
You don't want to say this about McVeagh, ever, that
was not his best night and I think he knows that.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
BG. What do you think from the game, You know.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
What, you know what I saw, I saw the culture
of the forty nine ers and what they've always been
come to life, even with the players being hurt. You know,
you've seen Fred Warner leading the defense, stf stifling the run,
making sure in those moments when they needed to play
the d tackle the rook. I'm sure the rook has
been getting talked to all the time on being hard,
(09:42):
running to the ball for effort. I thought that the
effort of the forty nine ers and their culture of
what they've done over the past, what howver the many
years right now with Fred Wanner being there, man, they
are out there playing together and mag Jones was just
another person that just filled in with mac Ford. Purdy
was there and people believe him. They talk them up,
(10:05):
they speak them up, and it's about winning and that
in that organization. And they went out there and they
put on the They put on the show. So I'm
excited to see just how they continue to keep carrying
on because for real, the culture of that team and
they always work hard. They got good coaches. Uh, they
they gritty. You know, they're gonna fight to the end,
and that's in this game. They made the plays, they
(10:26):
needed to in the end and got to win. And man,
that was a great stuff on defense.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
And we're starting to say some of the same things.
Like I'm saying like they're varsity, they have something different
in their fabric, like as someone who's played every single team.
Sometimes even if the team might be really talented, maybe
there's something missing sometimes if they're down some guys, other
teams just find a way like can you feel it
right away? And what does it feel like when you
play a team like the Niners who just has it?
Speaker 5 (10:50):
Culturally? Is what is that?
Speaker 3 (10:52):
It's it's smothering because when you when you out there
and they making plays, even if they're at your at
your house, it's the way they party together. Like on defense.
What was the team that we were talking Miami Dolphins
when they made a player, nobody nobody celebrating. You see
these guys they celebrate and they playing, they working. That's
that's smothering for sure. Because man, when you see a
(11:15):
team like Seattle had it when us Russell Wilson and
leaving the boom, all them boys was doing it. I mean, man,
it's just something about that when you all together and
y'all playing together and y'all on fire, even during some
of the tough times. Man, that's when you know you
got a good culture. And so I just say the
forty nine ers, they really do got a good culture
and a great job on that win last night.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
Beautiful, BG, that was beautiful. I think it's I think
there's some of it all up.
Speaker 9 (11:40):
It's a beautiful combination between arrogance and confidence. Like whenever
you have these cultures where they can play at home,
they can play on the road. And when you have
that confidence, you actually play better on the road because
you start to come together as a team, like it's
us against everybody. And I think there are so many
different factors when you look at this San Francisco Fortnighters team,
whether it was the injuries, whether it was they're going
(12:01):
into a division rival with the Rams at their place.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
After a hard.
Speaker 9 (12:07):
Fought game last week which they came up short, they
came together, and to your point, BG.
Speaker 5 (12:12):
That's just a reflection of culture.
Speaker 9 (12:13):
They could have easily split, they could have easily went
different ways, but they say, hey, who's throwing the ball,
and who's catching in, who's running in, who's making plays.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
It doesn't matter who it is.
Speaker 9 (12:21):
As long as he's got a gold helmet on, We're gonna.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
Win this game.
Speaker 9 (12:25):
I thought that was a perfect rendition of what great
culture looks like on a great team.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Pretty cool. Note on Mac Jones. In his first three
starts with the San Francisco forty nine Ers, he's thrown
for over eight hundred passing yards and over six passing
touchdowns and it's resulted in a three and oh record.
It's actually the fourth quarterback in the NFL to do
this since nineteen fifty. Just look back. Kurt Warner did
it in his first three games with the Rams, goes
three and oho with prolific passing. Mahomes did it in
(12:52):
his first three games of the Chiefs, and in a
taste of their own Medicine, Matthew Stafford did it when
he first arrived in La So it's kind of a
cool thing for Mac Jones. But here he comes into
La Kyle and forms quite well with the crazy jacket
to show up for the presser I know, and he.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Played so well that jack was actually kind of cool.
You can't show up with that jacket and throw thirteen
for thirty with two picks quickly, and we're going to
get to Tom Jamie. To your point, Mac Jones is
playing so well that I'm already waking up this morning
to how much are they paying brock Perty what? And
that's a compliment to Mac Jones and Kyle Shanahan, the
(13:30):
fact that like the backup can kind of run the
show pretty well. So you want the backup to be bad,
you want to lose from the backup is in if
you're looking to validate how much money you're playing rock Perty,
I don't look that far yet, but I would just say, hey,
Mac Jones, we always root for guys like this, Guys
who been down, guys who have been maybe disrespected and
cast off to du Bal County to sit in the sideline.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
And now you're winning games in time time. It's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
It's a great story for mac Jones. And as you said, Kyle,
he's piecing together as Sam Darnold experience, who I know
you're going to touch on his history in the NFL
later in the show. Until then, Tom Pellisero, welcome in
our NFL Network Insider with us this morning. Tom, speaking
of quarterback starting and back up, the commanders have had
to deal with that recently, but what are they going
with this? Weekend at QB one.
Speaker 10 (14:13):
Well Jamie, all systems appear to be go for Jaden Daniels,
who was a full participant in practice for a second
consecutive day. Dan Quinn had already said they weren't going
to put Daniels back onto the field until he could
do everything one hundred percent. It was a medical decision
to hold him out last week again because of that
knee sprand, but the doctors have cleared him. Daniels is
(14:33):
ready to rock on Sunday against the Chargers. Is whide
Receiver is a little bit of a different story. Terry
McLaurin did not make the trip to LA He has
officially been ruled out for a second consecutive week because
of his quad injury. Noah Brown, who's got multiple injuries
going on, he also did not make the trip and
has been ruled out. Meanwhile, Debo Samuel has not yet
(14:54):
practiced this week because of a heel injury. Divo Alice
made the trip, which is an indication they believe he's
got a pretty decent shot to be able to go,
But certainly there is a trickle down effect. No easy
task as you go up against a Chamargers defense that's
probably still really from losing to the Fighting Jackson Darts
last week. As for the Ravens and their quarterback Lamar Jackson,
(15:16):
there are a lot of signs pointing toward Lamar being
out this weekend against the Texans. No official word yet
from the Ravens. We've seen Lamar mispractice time before and
be able to go in the game, but he's dealing
with the hamstring injury. John Harbaugh made pretty clearly it
was a significant enough injury that Lamar had no chance
to come in had re left in the third quarter
(15:37):
last week against the Chiefs. Unless Lamar is on the
field today for practice, it would seem it's going to
be Cooper Rush. That then also would point towards the
schedule as an indicator this could be a multiple game
abson for Lamar Jackson. They face the Texans on Sunday,
they have a Week six game against the Rams. Week
seven is the buye, especially considering Lamar's play style and
(15:58):
the fact that hamstrings can be aggravated, it may make sense.
As much as they need to win, they leave Lamar
help over the long haul. Keeping him out these two
games would effectively give him a month off.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
Their defense also.
Speaker 10 (16:10):
Is absolutely battered in Baltimore and Kyle Hamilton, their stars
safety to the list limited on Wednesday, did not practice
on Thursday because of a goring injury.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
This is a defense. It's not going to have.
Speaker 10 (16:22):
Marlon Humphrey this week, No gro Kwan Smith, Nomni Medabig
is out for the season. And that's just the start
of the list for Baltimore. A lot of things they
got to figure out on defense, particularly if the two
time NFL MVP cannot go.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Jim, Tom, I actually have a question for you. I'd
like you to be honest with me. They're a wrong answer.
Just tell me the truth you in addition to chasing
stories and being a husband and a father, have you,
Tom Pellisero listened to the Life of the Show Girl.
Speaker 10 (16:48):
Yet I saw your posts from the Good Morning Football
social media accounts indicating that album has come out. I
was then thinking, where in my day do I have
like an hour and a half or however long it
is to make my way through the album. I have
an eleven year old who is absolutely said that's with
Taylor Swift, So I would imagine at some point, even
via hos Mooses walking through the house. I'm going to
(17:10):
hear that album several times over the next few days.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Twelve songs.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
I Want Takes, Tom, You Want takes.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Forty two minutes. Tom, It's all it takes. It's like
getting stuck in traffic in the Twin Cities. All Right,
you'll have the time. Yeah, it's Friday on GMFB, and
that means if you've tracked any international game played in
the NFL in the last five years, that means the
teams have arrived. Judy Batista has been in Europe what
feels like for a month and now she was in
(17:35):
Dublin now London ahead of Brown's Vikings. And the Vikings
are paying very close attention to what the Browns are
doing at practice today because there's a new quarterback in town,
right Judy.
Speaker 11 (17:45):
The Cleveland Browns practice today on a very rainy day
here in London. New quarterback at Dylan Gabriel was working
on the red zone offense. Gabriel will talk today. The
team is hoping that he will give this offense a spark.
They have averaged only fourteen points per game so far
this season, that is second fewest in the league, while
(18:08):
they have a defense that is number one in the league.
Safety Grant Delpit spoke to reporters yesterday and he admitted, quote,
it's not easy when a defense is playing well enough
to win and the offense is struggling so much and
frequently putting the defense in bad positions by turning.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
The ball over.
Speaker 11 (18:26):
Delpit said, we've got a good thing to rally around
talking about the quarterback switch. So certainly there is optimism
here that Dylan Gabriel will give this offense a jolt
and give this team a path forward this season.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Wow, Judy, an interesting word you use there in optimism.
Let's look at Texans Ravens. Shall we two teams in
the AFC that are both one and three facing off
against each other looking for their second win of the season.
Kyle Brant and we're into October. Kind of wild times
for Texans Ravens.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
I feel like last week was the Hunger Games games
for the Ravens who don't want to go one in three,
and they went one in three, And now it feels
like the same thing. One of these teams is going
one and four. We all picked them to go to
the playoffs more or less in some variety. I would
really like to see something from CJ.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Stroud here.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
He's been having some interesting sound bites. He hasn't been
playing terribly well. Lamar banged up everything, and like one
of these teams is losing one of one and four.
I just think, I think I like Baltimore somehow to
find a way because I don't like Houston.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
Houston's playing ment I go ahead, yeah.
Speaker 11 (19:25):
CJ.
Speaker 9 (19:25):
Stroud has been struggling Little bays also to talk about
those sound bites, he talked about how he's been tired
or you know, he's getting old or.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
Something like that.
Speaker 9 (19:33):
I think, out of all of these guys, I think
the unit that I'm most intrigued by is the Houston
Texans defense. The Houston Texans defense continues to be dominant,
to continue to play extremely physical, so I'm looking to
see how they're able to respond after a really good win.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
I feel the same way with you, Houston. I'm taking
Houston Defense over Baltimore. I don't think Cooper Russ is
going to get it done today. I think that they're
gonna stop here, reatta lay the box and put those
corners on the island.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
All right, Which is worse coming off of a tie
or not having won a game yet this season, because
that's we're looking at at the Cowboys and the Jets.
The Cowboys Cowboys are in New York to take on
a winless Aaron Glenn led team man Tai taken away
on Cowboys Jets.
Speaker 9 (20:13):
Well, what I'm looking forward to in this game is,
you know that Aaron Glenn's gonna he's gonna run a
lot of man coverage, So what does that mean. I'm
gonna get to see George Pickens and Saus Gardner go
at it for a while, and this is this is
always good when you have those rivalries across the ball
from each other. We saw that, you know, with with
Throw Reebs and a lot of the receivers that he
went up against. So I'm really looking forward to seeing
this matchup.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
I'm looking forward to both offenses because both defenses haven't
been playing really good. But I think the Jets come
through on this right now. Just because I don't like
Dallas h I'm gonna be honest, but I think that
the Jets are trying to get their win, especially on
how the block field go with and they didn't get
that win against Baker and them that one game. I
(20:55):
think that's gonna They're gonna get it done against Dallas.
Speaker 5 (20:58):
You guys are talking all this.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
I'm looking forward this looking I'm not looking for the much.
Speaker 5 (21:01):
Of this game.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
It's not my job to hype this game for Fox.
We're gonna get anything from the Jets. We say it's
third defense has to step up. I've been saying that
for a month. I've been saying that for two years.
You see all the talent, you see sauce this, they're
onwing four. The defense has not looked good at all,
and Dallas's offense is great. Show me something on defense
for God's sake.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
All right. I know it's not your editorial responsibility to
hype a game for Fox, But can I interest you
in a rookie quarterback who is making his second start,
this time on the road in New Orleans. That is,
of course, Jackson Dart and the New York Giants are
traveling to New Orleans. Brandon, what have you seen out
of Jackson Dart and the spark that he has given
this Giants team?
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Well, I've seen he got some nice dance moves. That
dance move when he got the first touchdown. I like that.
So that's why I'm choosing them because I like his swag.
I like how he came out his first game, went
down the field score. I think he's gonna, you know,
do really good down in New Orleans, even though that's
a hard place to play.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
Yeah, I mean, I'm thinking, if I'm one of these
Cam Jordan types d d on defensive line, but aren't, like,
get this punk in my dome right now, I'll show
him a dance like New Orleans defense. For the love
of God, show something that there is there. I've never
seen a sensation, and I'm using that word at one
in three, but with what we have here with Dart
and Scataboo here in New York, it feels like a sensation.
(22:17):
And if they win, they'll get to two and three.
So if you're the Saints, for the love of God,
have some pride New York, come on home at two
and three, and they'll probably be a parade mad time.
Speaker 5 (22:25):
I'm looking forward to that front for the New York Giants.
Speaker 9 (22:28):
I think that that front for the New York Giants
single handedly won them a lot of games and put
them in games. And so as they continue to develop
abdual quarter and and you know, and burns them all
of that.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
I think they should be fine.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
You guys know, I like to provide feedback in real times.
I have account for Beg of all them boys. He's
already got two on the show today and he snuck
one in during Mad Minute, So it's we love it
Mad Minute. Everybody will be very bad. No, it's not again,
all coming out. We are just two days away from
(23:07):
yet another international game on the NFL slate. This time
it's Vikings Browns in London Sunday morning football across the Pond,
and our next guest will be hitting the field for
the Browns defense. They are absolutely dominant. Look out, don't
throw on these guys, especially when Greg Newsome is laying
in wait. Is Brown Brown's going to back? What's up?
Speaker 5 (23:27):
Greg?
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Greg?
Speaker 2 (23:33):
You look like you are perfectly situated in like a
plant house arboretum in London. It looks great. You know
exactly where you are outside of the game, preparing after practice. However,
your head coach just took the podium in London and
unfortunately it sounds like your hamstring or you with your
hamstring popped up on the injury report. How's your leg feeling.
Speaker 12 (23:52):
It's feeling good. I tell the guys always I'm a competitor.
You know, everyone's dealing with some right now at this
time of the year, So I'm gonna do my.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
Best to be out there for the guys. I'll always
get my my body on the line for the guy.
Speaker 12 (24:05):
So that's all I'm trying to do is just get
get back ready for Sunday.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Well, we wish you well, Greg. Absolutely, the Browns are
going to take on the Vikings. As we said in London,
second international meeting between these two teams. So Greg, this
is your first game in the international. Sleep. We always
have to ask, how's the sleep, how's the body? What
have you prepared for with this experience?
Speaker 4 (24:26):
Yeah, the sleep when we landed it was rough.
Speaker 12 (24:30):
Stand up, we had walkthroughs and stuff like as soon
as we landed and we stayed up.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
I stayed up pretty well all the way till like
eight thirty and actually got pretty good sleep.
Speaker 12 (24:39):
Slept slept intill like three and then woke up for
like half an hour and then went back to sleep.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
So it's tough though, It's definitely tough. But I'm solid
right now.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
I hear you, man, I hear you, and listen, I
am a huge fan of Dylan Gabriel. I like this dude,
and I like the situation that he is in. He
was behind this Super Bowl MVP. He's in front of
this media lightning rod, and yet he just seems to
be all about ball and he seems really focused as
he makes his first start. Can you tell us something
that you see in this Dylan Gabriel quarterback you guys
(25:10):
are starting this week that maybe the fans and the
media don't know.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (25:14):
I think he's a quick decision maker, Like he doesn't
put the ball in harms way too much, and.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
He knows where to go with the football.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Like.
Speaker 12 (25:22):
I think he's very football savvy, obviously playing he played
a lot of football in college. So I think he's
a guy that as soon as he gets his turn,
which is this week, like, he'll be making a lot
of plays, a lot of quick decisions. He knows coverages
pretty well, like, so I think he's a vet when
it comes to being able to diagnose coverages make the throw.
He has a very strong arm, So I'm super excited
(25:44):
for him.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Hey, Greg, I would I had I got to go
to the door man, you know, with the mind response
man to the reporters what you thought about that? That
was I thought it was funny, man, you know, just
me personally, But what do you think about that?
Speaker 12 (25:57):
Yeah, so I just see I had actually just seen
it yesterday.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
I was actually laughing, like I think that.
Speaker 12 (26:06):
I think he's doing a great job for like everything
that he's getting.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
I mean, when he does say.
Speaker 12 (26:11):
Something, obviously they blow it up. So I guess his
strategy this time was to not say anything. But I
think he's been once again in pros Pro. He's obviously
been in the spotlight still, I mean, I think he's
doing a pretty good job at responding to it.
Speaker 9 (26:25):
Greg, you've been appro I feel the same way you've
been a PROS Bowl. I think also just listen to it.
I just looked at Jamis that you should be an
analysis bro when you're done with your long career here.
You're very, very good and how you analyze the game.
So let's let's get to this analysis of this game
you talked about in the commercial break, Jim Schwartz and
how he likes to stack the boxing and leave you
(26:46):
and Denzel Ward on islands.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
Well, on those islands. This weekend, you're gonna.
Speaker 9 (26:50):
Have Jordan Analyison, Addison and you're gonna have justin Jefferson.
What are you looking forward to in those matchups?
Speaker 12 (26:55):
Yeah, I like going against the best, so I'm looking
forward to to a matchup.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Like you said, they got two.
Speaker 12 (27:02):
Guys, you know what I'm saying out there, and got
two hungry guys out on our side. So me and
Denzel look forward to to moments like this. You know,
I'm super excited when I get a chance to go
against any of the best receivers in the league.
Speaker 4 (27:15):
So it'll be fun out there. But I got us.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
I got us always, So, Greg, you seem like such
a cerebral guy, and with that in playing in the
NFL for going on a couple of years now, I
have to imagine that you are constantly trying to challenge
and push yourself. How do you advance your game, whether
it be in the off season or even in the
first couple of weeks of the season, to make sure
you are playing at the top of your craft. How
(27:40):
do you grow in the best case scenario as a defender.
Speaker 12 (27:43):
Yeah, for me, I treat every day like it's the
last one. Like I practice super super hard, super fast,
Like I don't do anything mediocre. Like I said, going
into walkthroughs. It's no catches in our period, so it
could be slow speed, has speed, full speed. I'm treating
everything like it's a game rep. So I think continue
to that mindset every single day. I think that puts
(28:05):
me in a good position to be successful out there
on the field.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
And you know, Greg, I had to go, hey, man,
you're playing with Miles gearedtt Man, how does that change
being in your fifth year? How does that change your
level or your gameplay? When you know the quarterback already
ain't got that much time, you know, with Miles being
in there, Like, how does that change your game plan?
Knowing that you got Miles Garrett and that defensive front
that you have.
Speaker 12 (28:29):
Yeah, it helps obviously, so much like when you got
a guy like that, the ball has to come out quick.
So as a cornerback, I'm definitely like, let me let
me win early and win late.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
So my mindset is getting hands on.
Speaker 12 (28:43):
Early, getting it, getting it money for the quarterback. Don't
just allow free free access because Miles is going to
get home very very quick. So it definitely helps our
job a lot more knowing a guy like that's out there,
and then with the rest of the D line, just
they're hunting.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
As well, so it definitely helps us out out there.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
Greg.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
I remember five minutes ago man coming out of Northwestern
IMG and now, like you're veteran, like you've been around,
you were one of these guys who knows the league.
Look around at the at the years and the games
that you've played. Who are some wide receivers that you
just like, really respect. I'm not asking you to rank
or anything, but like, who's guys who are Like when
you're playing them, you know that they are pros and
(29:22):
it's going to be a long day if you're not
on top of your game.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (29:25):
Just obviously starting in my division, Jamar Chase and T Higgins,
we get to go against those guys twice a year
and that's just one of those games. Like I live
for those games. They're gonna throw the ball fifty times
a game, so you have to be locked in.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
And then I love going against Nico Collins.
Speaker 12 (29:42):
I think he's such a great player, really really good player.
And obviously going against Devonte Smith and A. J. Brown
last year, I don't think those guys get a lot
of credit just because they run the ball so well,
but those are two guys as well that you gotta
that you have to be locked in again. So I
think those are like five guys that for sure that
(30:05):
I play that you got to be locked in.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Greg, play a little game with me. We have Brandon
Graham here on the show every Fridays and on a
sliding scale of BG trash talk at a ten, and
your third string quarterback speaking no words, miming in the
locker room at a zero? Where does Greg Newso fall
on the trash talk scale zero to ten? You got
beg all the way down to nobody saying no words?
(30:28):
Where do you fall a ten?
Speaker 3 (30:30):
You're a game a.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Ten?
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Yeah, full ten, might even be eleven.
Speaker 5 (30:46):
Why why do you do that?
Speaker 3 (30:47):
What?
Speaker 4 (30:47):
What?
Speaker 3 (30:47):
What?
Speaker 5 (30:48):
Why do you do that?
Speaker 4 (30:49):
Man?
Speaker 12 (30:49):
It's fun, Like we out there having fun, and.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
I like getting myself hip. Like if I'm talking, I
have to.
Speaker 12 (30:56):
Be playing well because I can't talk and I back
it up. So I'm that energy guy, Like I'm the
first one to celebrate everybody. So if I'm gonna talk
a game like, I have to play well. So that's
really why.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
I do it.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
Greg. We are going to be unearthing the miked up
game film of you immediately and every time you come
on the show just like we gave the BG treatment.
Your inbump is gonna be great plays and you miked
up soughtful. We need every single word. Nothing's getting bleeped out.
Greg Newsome, good luck this weekend, stay healthy, stay well,
and we can't wait to have you on again.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
Thank you. I appreciate that, sir,
