Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Good Morning Football, Everybody, Friday, August twenty ninth, Jamie eard
allmant Isaiah standback here in Los Angeles, Kyle Brandt in
New York and got.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
The shades on.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
We're wearing college colors today, but specifically, Kyle, I think
the only college color we may care about is the
one that the Nitney Lions wear, and perhaps two cities
that are right in the middle of us in the country.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Yeah, I would have wrapped the Penn State stuff, but
I can get my hands on it. I feel with
this jersey, it's kind of like you know when you
have some artworker a painting and then like the painter
dies and it's worth more. That's how I feel right now, until.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
I can get a Green Bay Packers jersey. We're talking
Micah today.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
We're talking Huskies, We're talking Irish, we're talking Wolverines, but
we're really talking a lot of Michael. Let's get into
it and start the show like Jerry wants us to.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
Let's go Good Morning Football.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
That's right, everybody, Good Morning Football and Hastagg College Colors Day.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
How's everybody doing.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
I actually don't care about the answer.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
What I do care about is what happened mid afternoon yesterday.
And Isaiah's been looking at us sideways. Isaiah standback, who
works for the Cowboys, who pregame postgame is everything for
the Cowboys in Oxnard, California, does the preseason games? Yeah,
who saw? You're right, Isaiah, because we've been looking at
you like, yo, what's going on with Micah?

Speaker 5 (01:37):
And here we are.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Micah Parsons has been traded. You got to go home
and check in.

Speaker 6 (01:43):
I do have to go home and check in. We
have a lot to get to today. I'll just leave
my statement at this before we get into the depths
of it. I didn't see this and see this coming.
A lot of people in the building didn't see this coming.
Everybody is baffled right now.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
And we have.

Speaker 6 (01:57):
To be non emotional, oh at some point in time,
but we'll get into that.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
It's fun to be emotional.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Kyle, do you do your New York post tests today
this morning, right now? Or do you want to save
it from when we start talking Parsons.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
I'll save it. Let's save it.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
And we got to get to the news because we
have this is going to be a long a block.
We all got a lot of stuff to say. Thank
you for joining us.

Speaker 7 (02:15):
Let's do let's do it.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Tom Pellasero, thank you for joining us. After I'm sure
everyone that works within the insiders had quite an eventual
Thursday afternoon into the evening. There was the news and
there was the press conference. Tom, take us back, wind
it back the clock, start wherever you want with the
news that emerge yesterday.

Speaker 8 (02:32):
Well, Jamie, this trade of Micah Parsons to the Packers
said shock waves across the NFL. I know that in
part because of how my phone was blowing up for
a couple of hours after that deal became official. But
this is not something that came together quickly. Ever, since
Michaeh Parsons publicly requested a trade back on August first,
there had been calls from several different teams into the

(02:55):
Cowboys about whether or not they would move Michael Parsons. Initially,
it seemed as if people couldn't really tell whether Dallas
was serious about this, but it escalated in recent days.
This deal did not even get done between the Packers
and Cowboys yesterday. This has been in place, from my understanding,
along with Ian Rapport and Jane Slater. This trade was
locked in between the teams several days ago. This was

(03:18):
all down to the contract and whether the Packers would
do the type of deal that Michael Parsons would need
to move on from the Cowboys after four years and
head to Green Bay. They ended up doing that on
a four year, one hundred and eighty eight million dollar
contract extension at forty seven million dollars per year, by
far making him the highest paid non quarterback in NFL history.

(03:42):
Even if you look at this from the Packers perspective,
because they also inherit the fifty year option on parsons
rookie contract, it's still two hundred twelve million dollars over
five years of forty two plus million dollars per year average,
which also would make him the highest paid quarterbacky non
quarterback by any measure. This is a monster deal for
Michael Parsons Edver Packers team that really hasn't this type

(04:05):
of bold stroke in several decades. You think back to
the trade in nineteen ninety two a first round pick
for Brett farm That's the last time they had traded
a first round pick, much less two first round picks
in their starting nose tackle to go get a player.
Of course, the year after that, the Packers signed Reggie
White as an early free agent, and that set the
stage for a golden era of Packers football that really

(04:28):
hasn't led up. The standard in Green Bay is Lombardi trophies.
They feel like Michael Parsons is a difference maker. The
standard in Dallas is also Lombardi trophies, something that they
have not put in the case in several decades.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Here.

Speaker 8 (04:40):
Jerry Jones, in speaking late last night at a press conference,
referenced a variety of different things. He said, we need
to stop the run. That explains the piece of Kenny Clark,
the nose tackle thirty years old now but still a
very good player headed to Dallas. In fact, Jerry Jones
said they didn't even engage with teams that didn't have
a defensive tackle that they could include in the trade.

(05:01):
Jerry also invoked the Herschel Walker trade, which of course
for a boatload of picks and players which they turned
into even more picks. Use some of those on the
cornerstones of the Cowboys dynasty in the mid nineties. You
have a significant type of haul in terms of multiple
first round picks as well as a nos tackle. You
also now free up, Jamie, a whole lot of cash

(05:21):
and cap space for years to come. As Jerry put it,
we might not just get three players. There might be
four or five good players that could help us. Jerry
Jones said, Ultimately they came to the conclusion they would
be better moving on from Micah Parsons, who Jerry also
confirmed came along with his agent David Mulligett it to
the Cowboys after trade interest linked saying hey, we're still

(05:43):
willing to do a deal.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
At that point, Jerry Jones'.

Speaker 8 (05:45):
Message was very clear, you're under contract. We got a
game next Thursday night against Philadelphia. Get ready to play.
Once that possibility of a Lake contract with the Cowboys
went out the window, things really intensified with the Packers,
who about three days ago the trade was locked in.
The contract got done yesterday. Now Micah Parsons is a

(06:06):
Green Bay Packer, they'll get a shot at this old
team week four in Dallas.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Jamie, oh my, there are so many layers of this time.
Thank you for at least setting the table for us,
because if you're using phrases like cornerstone pieces, hauls, first
round picks and invoking past trades. That means this has
some juice to it. All, right, Isaiah, we start with
you once again. I laid it out already. You worked
for the Cowboys, you covered the team. Your initial reaction yesterday,

(06:32):
you're here with us in Los Angeles, but Michael Parsons
traded to the packers.

Speaker 6 (06:35):
Listen, my initial reaction was I was actually getting my
hair done.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Let's keep it real.

Speaker 6 (06:39):
I'm in the hotel getting my hair done, and I
started getting text messages because I was watching Pet Detective
with Nature Calls nice and I'm like, wait a minute,
and I literally stop and the person doing my hair
is like what.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
I'm like, no, no, no, no, no no.

Speaker 6 (06:53):
I immediately turned to NFL Network and I'm like, you
gotta be kidding me, and I got confirmation. I started
texting my people and I'm just in shock because I'm like,
there is no way this was going to happen. Your point, Jamie,
and I have my notes here, hey, and I want
you guys to hold onto your seat belts. I don't
know if we have a picture that I request it,
but let's go ahead and dive into this. You mentioned
the word layers. Hey, Jamie, this is a seven layer cake.

(07:17):
This is a seven layer cake. I don't know if
you guys ever been to a fancy restaurant. I' know
Manti goes to fancy restaurants all the time. But you know,
when you're right at the end of dinner, you know
what I'm saying, you kind of fool you order a
seven layer cake and it comes in this It's a
pretty kegus and beautiful knife.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
It's a knife in the middle of it.

Speaker 6 (07:31):
You know, you're like, you know what, I want this
and if I eat this, they're gonna roll me out
of here, right, So I want you guys to go
seven layers deep with me on this one. The first
portion of this is the trade equity. Hey, the trade
equity of that happened? Hey, yeah, you gotta see the
cake on your screen. Dallas needed trade equity for this deal.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Right now.

Speaker 6 (07:49):
Understand they got two first round picks one in twenty six,
one and twenty seven, and they got.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Kenny Clark in the middle.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
But understand this, to your point, we can they can
now turn around and utilize that to.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Go get players now.

Speaker 6 (08:03):
And you look at the history in the NFL, when
you have first round draft picks that you can utilize
for trades, you can go get all pro players to
help you win now. Even though it looks like they're
planning for the future, right now, they have needs that
they need to address and they can utilize that trade
equity that they just received to go get players right
now that can impact the Dallas Cowboys' team collectively. On

(08:26):
the next layer salary cap space. You just heard Tom
talk about it. They now have forty two million dollars of.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
Salary cap space.

Speaker 6 (08:34):
After that trade, they freed up nineteen million dollars a
salary cast space by getting Kenny Clark and by getting
rid of Michael Parson's forty.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Two million dollars.

Speaker 6 (08:42):
At the end of training camp, you are now in
a position to go make some things happen. You can
get some guys that can come in and make an impact.
I know everybody's going to talk about the impact that
Micah has, and let's not be fooled. He is a
generational player. He's somebody that you don't just go draft.
He's somebody that you get blessed with. He is gifted
beyond means. However, you have to make a decision do

(09:04):
I want one guy to be absolutely dominant or do
I want a team that can be very productive and
hopefully get to the dominant portion of it at some
point in time. So salary cap is a big deal.
Matt Eberflus, I don't know if you guys remember the
fact that Matt eber Plus is now the defensive coordinator
for the Dallas Cowboys. Matt Eberflus got his head coaching
job and with the Chicago Bears because of how dominant

(09:26):
of a defensive coordinator he was with the Indianapolis Coats.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
He is a dude.

Speaker 6 (09:30):
They are trusting in his ability to develop this defense
and put them in a pedestal so that they can
go out there and be impactful. What is he known
for getting out of the quarterback? What is he known
for taking the ball away? What do you need for that?
You need a collective defensive approach. You can't just have
one guy who's dominant. Matt Eberbluz also is very diverse
in his fronts. He likes to run four to three,

(09:51):
he likes to run three four, He likes to run
a five to two. What do you need for that?
You need defensive linemen. They have two starters and Olso
Digizua and Solomon Thomas. Outside of that, these guys don't
have a lot of guys that they trust. They went
and got Kenny Clark and he's going to be able
to be fit in right now. But they now have
that trade equity to go apply guys to help Matt
Eberflus run stop big deal. Run stopping is a big deal.

(10:14):
Dallas I mentioned on yesterday's show. Dallas has struggled with
the run defense for years, not just last year. They've
been at the bottom of the league for the last
three or four years. Even when they had Dan Quinn,
they did not have the opportunity there for the ability
to resign players.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
They had to go get Tyler.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
They got to resign Tyler Smith, Daron Bland, a bunch
of other guys. Leadership, eternal issues and Eagle.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Eagle's a big thing as well.

Speaker 6 (10:35):
There's a respect factor that has to be had between
Jerry Jones and his players, and a message was since
and the rest of the guys on his team that hey,
you gotta get in line.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
That was very passionate. I respect it. I'm not going
to have a slice of that cake. I'm going to
go a dramatically different way. Guys, yesterday was a really,
really memorable day, unbelievable twist for all of us who
filed the NFL.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
You get the shock and awe of.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
The trade and then immediately into the bluster and the
noise of the press conference.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
It's set up.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
I felt like I was watching the dog eating.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Competition on the fourth of July. Here we go.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
You have a three time All Pro who you drafted, homegrown,
good dude, great player gone, and you trade it into
a team who you play a month from now, a
team that beats you in the playoffs in your house
by nine hundred points, into a franchise. Not exactly riverboat
gamblers when it comes to free.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Agents and big trades.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
And yet they put the money together in twelve seconds
after you were bloviating about it for five months. So
that happens. What do you do to sit down and
talk about it? Well, your first take is we can
use these picks to.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
Get pro bowlers.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
That's like saying I got twenty million in the bank
and I'm going to say we can spend it all
on scratch offs to get money. You have money, you
can get pro bowlers, you have Micah Parsons. Even if
you do get pro bowlers, Jerry, eventually they will want
proper compensation, and then apparently you will trade them.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
And then the first round picks you know you got.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
You know these are Packers' first round picks, right, They're
gonna be in the twenties. And everybody knows it, does Jerry?
Why do I feel like I'm telling my grandma to
make sure she turns off the burner after she makes
her tea on the stove. Do you understand how this works?
Then you say, well, we need to stop the run.
Saying we need to stop the run, so let's trade
Michael Parsons is like saying we need to run the

(12:24):
ball better, so let's trade. Ceedee lamb, Jerry, you're gonna
have to play Micah this year, not Michael by the way,
Mike go you're gonna have to play him this year?

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Well, he says, I had to play.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Emma Smith when he was on the Cardinals.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Jerry.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Emmett was careening into his mid thirties. When he was
on the Cardinals. You played against him, he had six carries.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
For negative one yard.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
He was in a Walker with tennis balls on the bottom.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
This is a different deal. Well, it's just like Herschel Walker.
It's just like Herschel.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Why do I feel like I'm talking to a guy
who peaked in high school, who just wants to go
back to the good old days, and who stalks his
girlfriend's Instagram every night when he gets drunk.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Why do I feel like again?

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Mary Jones is trying to speak like he is in
a documentary and loading quotes for the next documentary and
leaving space for editing that it will play well.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
But Jerry, here's the sad part. There's not going to
be a next documentary. What would it be on. What
would be the topic? You already did the Super bowls
thirty years ago. It's over. There is no new topic.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
But everyone who is saying right now at home, if
you're saying, man, I remember the Cowboys Dynasty. When's the
next dynasty? I have news for you. We're in it.
We're in the middle of the Cowboys Dynasty. Number one
documentary on Netflix, hit Cheerleader show on Netflix, leading every
TV show, every podcast, and last night was his Super Bowl.

(13:46):
Because I looked at the trending topics on Twitter and
here's what I saw.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Bring up there. It is have a.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
Parade, pop the champagne Cowboys one, Jerry Jones two, probably
better if Jerry Jones was one.

Speaker 7 (13:59):
But what can you do?

Speaker 3 (14:00):
You know?

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Why don't stay up there? I don't see Jeffrey Lourie.
I don't see how he wrote. I don't see Eagles.
I don't see Chiefs. I see Cowboys. That's their super Bowl,
that's their dynasty.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
You know what I say?

Speaker 1 (14:11):
I think the Cowboys are gonna get crushed by the
Eagles next week.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Crushed. But who cares?

Speaker 1 (14:18):
The season is over because the offseason is the season
for the Cowboys at this punt. They used to be
a football company did content on the side, and now
they are a content company who does football on the side.
And last night was their Academy Award. So congratulations Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
You wanted again? How about those Cowboys? Whoa dang bro?

Speaker 9 (14:39):
If you're the seven layer kby was that flombay that
they pull on that dessert that just keeps flaming?

Speaker 3 (14:44):
I love it, guys. That's early on a Friday, and
we're bringing that heat now.

Speaker 9 (14:48):
While you was watching Pet Detective, I was watching Avengers Endgame,
and I likened it to this whole situation. Why because
at the end of that movie, Tony Stark dies and
everybody's mad at it. But as fans, we're the ones
that's disappointed. But Tony Stark winning why because he's getting
paid a lot of money and the producers they're winning
Why because they're getting talked a lot in there topping

(15:09):
the charts and a lot of.

Speaker 7 (15:10):
These movie categories.

Speaker 9 (15:11):
So when I'm sitting there and I'm looking at it,
the Cowboys Wan and Michael Parsons won. Okay, those are
the two people that won, the two parties that.

Speaker 7 (15:21):
Were involved, they both won.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
You know who lost was the fans.

Speaker 9 (15:24):
Like when Tony Stark died in the movie, We're like, oh,
we hate this movie.

Speaker 7 (15:27):
This thick sucks.

Speaker 9 (15:28):
Like the fans were like this sucks, like we don't
like it.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
We don't.

Speaker 9 (15:32):
Michael Parsons is one of those players that you it's
hard to see him in another jersey.

Speaker 7 (15:37):
It's like, when you think of Michael Parsons.

Speaker 9 (15:39):
You think of the star on the side of his
helmet and number eleven like that. You don't think of
him in Green and Goold. You think of him and
Blue silver and white. That's what we think of Michael Parsons.
So when I was watching that end game thing, I
was like, man, it's a win. It's a win for
the Cowboys. Why because, yes, you didn't. You do need
to show up your rush defense. Why because the top
three offenses that run the ball, Baltimore, Philly and Washington.

(16:03):
You you play two of those guys, they're in your division,
play them twice, So you do need to show that up.
And it's a win from Michael Parsons because he just
retired his mom. I saw the video of that. I
saw the announcement and that hug between him and his mom.
So the two parties that were involved, obviously congratulations. They
both won. Bast for us as we as everybody had.

Speaker 7 (16:23):
Seen this morning so far, it's kind of it hurts
a little bit, So I'll leave it at that.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Cowboys, as you say, may have won. Michael Parsons may
have won personally, But all I care about the content
that is coming out of Green Bay, and I want
to see the video of whoever Brian Goodukuon's hugged when
this deal went through, because to Kyle's point, this could
go the best for the Packers. Other people may have won,
but this thing really could have worked out. The Packers
just had a very quiet offseason where they hosted a draft,

(16:51):
and then they bookended the off season with perhaps getting
one of the best, if not the best, defensive player
of the year coming up in twenty twenty five. So
this has ripple effects in the NFC North as well.
And we're going to get to this on Goo Morny Football.
But Tom Tella Sero wants to join us once again
with I guess the eighth layer to this cake.

Speaker 8 (17:09):
Well, let me start by reinforcing what you just said, Jab,
which is that this was a moment within that Packers
building where people were ecstatic and I was texting and
calling people. We were going live on NFL Network. I
texted Matt Lafleur, how are you feeling? And I'll clean
up his response just slightly. He said, I cannot sit down.
This is not something you expect when you work in

(17:29):
Green Bay, a blockbuster trade like this. But I was
thinking about this when Kyle was talking about the Cowboys,
and I've thought about this for a while now. But
for the Micah Parsons drama, what was interesting about the
Cowboys in this entire offseason, what else have we actually
talked about. Yeah, they made a trade for George Pickens.
Maybe that upgrades the offense. There hasn't been a lot

(17:49):
of discussion about Brian Schottenheimer taking over and in the
house hire for the head coach. The only thing that
Jerry had for people to talk about was the drama
with Michah Parsons. But Kyle, it's beyond just going trending
for a moment on social media yesterday. Jerry Jones has
now set him up, himself up and the franchise up
in a position where for the next two years and

(18:12):
specifically leading up to next April, they will be the
center of the football universe. Jerry Hinton at this himself
last night when he mentioned day we got four first
round picks over the next two years, and he said, quote,
nothing says we can't use some of those picks right
now to go get somebody right now? Who are you
gonna get? Yes, you've got a lot more cash and
cap space. There's not just high profile, big money guys

(18:34):
staying around right now. You can roll over that cap space,
you can save that cash. You got all those picks.
What are the Cowboys gonna do. Are they gonna bundle them?
Are they gonna go up? Are they going to replace
Dak Prescott, who's got fully guaranteed money out for a
couple of years here Jerry will address all this on
a weekly basis, a daily basis. He'll be on the radio,
he'll be in postgame.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
The Cowboys in a.

Speaker 8 (18:56):
Year where they could have been completely irrelevant unless they
just surprised everybody, he became the best team in the NFC.
They now have made themselves the team that are going
to continue to be a massive story as Jerry loves
them to be, regardless of whether it works out the
way that it did after the herschel Walker trade.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
There's so many machinations and it's a beautiful illustration of
how this can work for the Cowboys to be the
center of the football universe.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
There's another way too.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
You can just win a Super Bowl and you can
play really, really good football. Because tom My only response
would be, they won't be the center of the football universe.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
That will be the Eagles and the Chiefs. The center
of the football media universe will be the Dallas Cowboys.
But on the field, that's actual football.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
No, no, no, no, no, this sort of stuff dynasty.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
You're right, they got it. They got they could do
it with winning football.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
But instead, let's just do a bunch of this stuff
and light some fires and chuck grenades into social media
and see what happens. So you're right, Football media universe,
there in a dynasty.

Speaker 8 (19:52):
It's all one Kyle, embrace, embrace every bit of it here.

Speaker 3 (19:57):
This is all I like to think.

Speaker 8 (19:59):
It's all part of the broader strategy. What's the best
zig you can do with everybody else's Zaggi trade away
in the player and honestly, they now long with the
Cleveland Browns. They'll be the two teams sitting on all
these extra picks first rounders. One is going to happen
in a quarterback class that potentially could include Arch Manning among.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Other big name guys.

Speaker 8 (20:17):
We got storylines glower even if you know, maybe they're
four and ten or something at some point to see and.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
I'm sure that will be an inevitable conversation as well.
Tom Pella, Sarah, thank you so much. We're also going
to hear from Jane Slater in just a minute, so
we are not done talking about this until then. Let's
look forward to Tuesday at eight pm Eastern, you got
Rich Eysen, Kurt Warner, Steve, Mary Ouchi and the rest
of the creview get you ready for kickoff week.

Speaker 5 (20:35):
On NFL Game Day Preview.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Plus, Kyle Brandt sat down with NFL MVP Josh Allen,
super Bowl predictions of plenty and the biggest starts to
the Eagles.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
Could it now be the Packers? Don't miss that?

Speaker 2 (20:47):
On Game Day previous Tuesday, September second, at a pm
Eastern still come. Like I said, we are just getting
rolling on this Michael Parson's Green. There was the actual
trade and then there was a press conference because we
also have to address Jane Slater is going to join
us as our booth on the ground. I'm sure she
was live in person in that room last night, Kyle.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
We got to get to say, yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
I'm right enough to talk to James get her and
look at that. There it is freshly produced content.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Packer's helmet, Packers fun.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Can you imagine being Brian Dunaquins on the phone, You're like,
what are you serious?

Speaker 3 (21:20):
Yeah, we'll do that GMSB on a Friday.

Speaker 10 (21:22):
We'll talk about the Packers that I promise, good mo Mom,
the prod del this the protest up my couch, the prodest,

(21:43):
delive the presson Parson.

Speaker 9 (21:46):
Prunching down and bust the BAMA.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
He's stacked again.

Speaker 7 (21:49):
Wow, I'm gonna have a turnover.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
I'm gonna talk, dude. I mean, we exploded and Rush
Young never had a chance. So he gets going like that.
It is literally like he was hunting.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
You know.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
If ever blaw mom bro.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
When then Micah news broke yesterday, one of the first
people that we called to come on Good Morning Football
is Jane Slater because not only is she entrenched into
this extremely complicated situation between the Cowboys and that out
involves the Green Bay Packers, but you also know that
she is in many of the rooms where these discussions
go down and knows a lot of.

Speaker 5 (22:23):
The people involved.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
So Jane, please, there was a moment not so long
ago where Jerry Jones says that this was not going
to happen, that this eventually will get done, whether or
not it was through the agent or through the player.
Why and how did we get here?

Speaker 5 (22:38):
Jamie? I think you bring up a great point.

Speaker 11 (22:40):
I truly, despite Jerry Jones telling us last night the
press conference, they'd been talking about.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
This since the spring. The building had been talking about
it since two years ago.

Speaker 11 (22:51):
But I think it was Jerry who still felt personally
invested in Micah, thought that maybe even leaking some of
this trade stuff might make him come into his office,
kiss the ring, get this thing done.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
That did it.

Speaker 11 (23:04):
This week things really started to heat up, and I
think ultimately both sides back into a corner.

Speaker 5 (23:09):
To give you a refresher. Back in March, Jerry.

Speaker 11 (23:11):
Jones told us Michah Parsons requested a meeting after he'd
gone on vacation overseas.

Speaker 5 (23:16):
As he describes it, there was two days of.

Speaker 11 (23:19):
Deep negotiations that included himself, Micah, and Stephen Jones. Satisfied
with it, Parsons then wanted to loopen his agent, And
this is the part that will always be.

Speaker 5 (23:29):
Problematic for me.

Speaker 11 (23:30):
Jerry Jones claims at this point he didn't want to
renegotiate and go through it with another person. In other words,
he was holding a twenty six year old who had
never negotiated a contract to those discussions because he and
Stephen had gone deep into this, So conversation ceased, and
this week Michah tells me he and his agent reapproached

(23:50):
and Jerry told him quote play on the fifth or leave,
which Jerry confirmed last night. Now, at this point, it
was after the trade interest at le Micah was fought at.

Speaker 5 (23:59):
The airport, hading to get a second of pinad on
his back.

Speaker 11 (24:02):
Grievances had then been filed this year's salary as it
related to the position linebacker versus defensive end, and there
was a shot.

Speaker 5 (24:10):
Of him watching this game, Isaiah.

Speaker 11 (24:12):
You saw it in the preseason game from the training table,
and it's my opinion that that was the final straw
for a lot of them. Jerry added that there are
three people who have to sell and ultimately Micah.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
Could have called him this summer, but I believe the
building one here. As one former coach explained, there.

Speaker 11 (24:29):
Are some who didn't think he loved football. He was
easily distracted floating in and out of meeting rooms, and
players had grown weary of him saying one thing in
front of cameras and doing another. Most teams have different
rules for their players, but all of this contributed to
the direction that was ultimately taken late Friday.

Speaker 5 (24:45):
Find Mike and the money, seeks.

Speaker 11 (24:47):
Address the interior defensive line and secure capital for the future. Internally,
one person told me this gives the coaching staff a
clean slate and now they can move forward and focus
on the season.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
Yeah, Jane, you hit it on.

Speaker 6 (25:02):
You and I both are in that building, probably more
than probably at the crib. But you know, you alluded
to some of the things that transpired, and we talked
about earlier how many layers there are. And I don't
even know if the two hour show is enough to
even get into it. But to your point, that picture
of Micah laying on the table, a lot of people
want to put their finger on it and say, oh,
that was the one time to what you already have said,

(25:23):
it is over the last few years, there have been murmurs.
There have been things within the building that have questioned
his leadership.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
That is just a reality. There have been not only
just Micah.

Speaker 6 (25:33):
There's been other guys on the squad as well, younger,
big talent guys that have their maturity and their leadership
qualities have been questioned. So when you're in an ownership
position and you're in a management position, to be able
to give a young player a gazillion dollars, you have
to make sure that you are fully confident that that
person is representative of what your organization stands for and

(25:53):
what your new coaching regime stands for. So even though
that image right there is alarming, even though that image
is what everybody wants to say, Oh, that was the
one time, it's not the one time. There are stories
that are in that building that have occurred in questions.
So you talk about DeMarcus Lawrence, who was a leader
on that team for a number of years, and as
soon as he leaves, him and Mike I have a

(26:14):
Twitter battle.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
That stuff doesn't just happen.

Speaker 6 (26:16):
That stuff is as underlying factors, so that when you
see this end result that is very emotional. You have
an understanding that there were some things that were happening
before this transpired.

Speaker 11 (26:27):
And Isaiah, I think that was illustrated when Jerry Jones
last night said this was a unanimous decision. In other words,
he's not worried that this is going to affect the
locker room culture. It's my understanding not dissimilar from some
of the bigger decisions they've made, like des Bryant at
the end that they essentially went to the coach and
the leadership counsel and got them to weigh in on this.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
Now they're going to have an open locker today.

Speaker 11 (26:49):
We'll also get to see new defensive tackle Kenny Clark,
who Jerry multiple times said was one of the big
pieces of getting this trade done. They absolutely had to
address the interior of this defensive line.

Speaker 5 (27:02):
They feel like they've got a lot of depth at
defensive end.

Speaker 11 (27:04):
But you can scheme against the pass rush, you can't
scheme against the run. And I will at least argue
here on the Cowboys side, one hundred and seventy nine
rushing yards on the ground is what they gave up
in Week seventeen.

Speaker 5 (27:17):
To the Eagles.

Speaker 11 (27:18):
This was eighth problem when you look at last year
and they were averaging one of the league worst one
hundred and thirty seven rushing yards on the ground, And
so I know that they needed to address this. I
guess for me, Isaiah, guys at the breakfast table, Jamie,
the big problem that I still have is you knew
that this was going to be an issue.

Speaker 5 (27:38):
You knew that this was brewing.

Speaker 11 (27:40):
You would have had so much more draft capital if
you had done this ahead of the draft, before some
of this stuff about Micah had leaked a lot of
us had sort of said, eh, you know the cowboys.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
I feel like have I.

Speaker 11 (27:52):
Guess a higher tolerance for off the field issues sometimes,
which is perplexing.

Speaker 5 (27:56):
To me and Kyle, let you weigh in on that one.
This is more of a nuisance.

Speaker 11 (28:01):
I tend to think, well, can't you control the nuisance
when you're talent such as this? But I think with
Brian Schottenheimer coming in here, they wanted a new coaching
staff to be able to have a clean slate in
this locker room, and there were elements of this locker
room that were fractured at times, and I just think
that they ultimately said, do we expect him to play

(28:23):
as the back is the grievance going to be an
issue moving forward? Or do we make a move now
try to get something out of this, because it wasn't
looking like they were going to lock him in at
this point for five war years, given the fact that
it was sort of a wait and see through the
summer and then through body language and some of his
moves chess moves I would argue on Mullageta and Micah

(28:44):
Parson's path, they realized that this was an untenable situation.

Speaker 7 (28:47):
Well, Jamie quick question. You talked about the fracture in
the locker room.

Speaker 9 (28:51):
Was this decision when it was made, was it as
unanimous as Jerry Jones kind of hinted to.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
I wouldn't say unanimous.

Speaker 11 (28:58):
I would say maybe seventy five percent of the locker
room would have agreed why they were doing this.

Speaker 5 (29:05):
But I think a lot of people.

Speaker 11 (29:06):
Are disappointed that it even got to this point. In
other words, I know one of the questions asked to
Jerry last night was, well, how do you think it's
going to affect players moving forward? In other words, I
would say that I think the big lesson here is
DAK and CD showed you how to do it.

Speaker 5 (29:23):
When Jerry wants to talk to you in his office,
the answers talked to.

Speaker 11 (29:25):
My agent, and I just think Micah again, going back
to being a twenty six year old and one of
three people, as Jerry mentioned, having a cell phone, I
truly thought and believed that Micah thought they could work
something out, that they could come up with a number
that made.

Speaker 5 (29:43):
Sense for the team.

Speaker 11 (29:44):
Most specifically last year he said, you want to be
the highest paid defensive player.

Speaker 5 (29:47):
But then they got CD paid, they got Dak, They
made him wait, and I just you know.

Speaker 11 (29:52):
A player of his caliberis looking at other guys, you know,
his draft class get extended.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
He's seeing what other pass rushers. And then that's where
I think some of the ego got in the way.
But I think any player in that locker room would say,
when they're up, they want what the market bears.

Speaker 11 (30:06):
And I think a lot of them were frustrated that
it ended up being finagled the way that it did
in the ends.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
And more importantly, I.

Speaker 11 (30:12):
Think when news comes out the locker room that Micah
tried to get this done this week and Jerry basically said,
El paso, that's going to be frustrating for some of them.

Speaker 1 (30:23):
Jane was fun How about having you on as you
know all the headlines, but you also know all of
the nitty gritty.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
Indulge us in some details.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
What role did Micah's mom play in this over the
last couple of years.

Speaker 5 (30:37):
That is the strangest part of this.

Speaker 3 (30:39):
And it was funny.

Speaker 5 (30:40):
Somebody talked to me about the Cowboys and is this strange?

Speaker 11 (30:43):
And I said, strange is my baseline around here, so
nothing shocks me.

Speaker 5 (30:47):
For fans that aren't familiar. Jerry was photographed with Micah
Parson's mother ahead of the preseason game against the.

Speaker 11 (30:54):
Falcons, and Jerry said that Micah's mother sat in their
box during the preseason game they talked about Micah. He
will go on to say that this is not vindictiveness,
this isn't business. I will tell you that Mikah does
feel that he was taken advantage of that.

Speaker 5 (31:15):
He's alway kissed the kid at the presser. It's it's one.

Speaker 11 (31:22):
He had his whole family there, and I think that's
what's probably hard here. If you've watched The Gambler and
you saw the relationship and the egos and the hubris
on display between Jimmy Johnson and Jerry, it was getting
to that point with Jerry and Micah, and I think
both egos got bruised, and I think it got to

(31:44):
a situation where Jerry sort of met his match in
terms of somebody that was managing the message. I will
say this, though, Jerry skillfully handled the court of public opinion,
at least here in Dallas in the last two weeks.

Speaker 5 (31:58):
If you listen to the radio this morning, a lot
of the fans are.

Speaker 11 (32:02):
Disappointed that the Cowboys didn't get war for it, but
they weren't disappointed that they moved on from Mike. I
think the podcast when they would see him, you know,
with Jordan Love and they'd see him, you know with
Eagles players, and that was always sort of a twist
of the knife for people that have grown up here
and know about the rivalry.

Speaker 5 (32:20):
Again, there's a lot of players that have podcasts. I
don't see it as such a big.

Speaker 11 (32:23):
Issue, but the fans got really frustrated, especially when they
saw him at the airport looking for a second opinion
on the back.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
They knew that he was digging in here too.

Speaker 11 (32:33):
So I think I think everybody that's been around this
team that's covered it, that's a fan, knew that this
had come to a head. And I think some of
us are shocked that Jerry had the stomach to trade
on one of his favorite players, because one of the
biggest knocks on this team for the longest time was
they were too emotionally invested in players.

Speaker 5 (32:49):
Isaiah can speak to this.

Speaker 11 (32:51):
They held on to players too long, They weren't resetting.
They can tell you this isn't a rebuild, but Jerry
will concede that a third of this roster is new.

Speaker 5 (32:59):
This is a new coaching staff. He is tempering your
expectations and looking to the future.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
Jane, excellent stuff. And listen the next Cowboys documentary that
comes out. I actually think you just pitched the perfect
title for it, which is if you listen to the
fans on the radio this morning, because that probably is
the quintessential messaging that you need from Dallas Cowboys fan, good,
bad or otherwise. Jane Slater, You're all over it. We
always appreciate you. Here's a look at the projected win

(33:25):
totals for the NFC North this season. Lions still hold
at over ten and a half wins at a plus
t one oh five. Can attackers get more than nine?
While that question becomes a lot more interesting today, Vikings
at over eight and a half wins are a minus
one seventy and the Bears at the same win total
at plus twenty eighteen.

Speaker 5 (33:40):
Of course, the oddsre's haveing to change.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
New users can bet one dollar to boost their next
twenty bets by one hundred percent. Must be twenty one
or older. C Caesars dot com slash promos for full terms.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
What that board implied is that.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
The Detroit Lions are the favorite in the NFC North Manti.
Do you still agree with that?

Speaker 9 (33:57):
This morning they were I think they're a favorite last
year in the year before, I really liked Minnesota Vikings. Jamie,
I don't say that because you're my sistant, your bike fan.
I do like what Kevin O'Connell has over there. I
know JJ McCarthy hasn't played a snap in real football yet. However,
that guy wins guys like he won in high school
he want in college, and everybody may say, oh, this
is that pros.

Speaker 7 (34:16):
Whatever guy's a winner is a winner.

Speaker 9 (34:18):
Once you understand the recipes, you can cook whatever cake
you want to make just when you're the chef. And
he's been chefing it up at a high level. So
I really like the Minnesota I can say.

Speaker 6 (34:27):
Yeah, I still like Detroit Lions until I see that
their coordinator changed is going to have a dramatic impact
in a negative way. I still have to rock with
the Lions because their nucleus of their team is still there.
But I can say that the Micah trade, does you
know it does peauk my interest in terms of how
the impact that he's going to have on Green Bay's
defense now, because this is already a top five defense in.

Speaker 7 (34:46):
The league, and what does his addition to do for them?

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Yeah, I look at Green Bay too, I mean you
have to this morning.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
What we're talking recently that it was funny about the
Packers is that they're so quiet in the offseason. You know,
they hosted the draft and draft and wide receiver. It
feels like five years ago. But they're one of the
most quiet teams in the NFC, and they shouldn't be,
and they're obviously not.

Speaker 8 (35:06):
Now.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
I'm on a lot of Bears fans text chains high
school friends, my brother, not a good night last night,
not happy, not happy this morning. Those people are freaking
out right now.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Like, no, not now. A week before the season they
get Micah.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Bears went into sold Lambeau last year and won with
Caleb and now it's just it's a different experience.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
You have a player of mass destruction. I think the Packers, what.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
Were that nine point five we started the segment, It's
really tough to imagine imagine getting down and wagering that
the Packers win nine games this year with that.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
I don't know, it's the Packers one's fascinating. I feel
like it's going to be more than that.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
Absolutely, all right, that was a great conversation that was
probably looking a lot differently yesterday. At this time we
planned for it on the NFC North And yeah, if
I'm one of those second year quarterbacks in that division, specifically,
that man wearing green and yellow jerseys for the rest
of the season doesn't.

Speaker 5 (35:59):
Make me feel great.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
And as Adah would say, probably gives you the.

Speaker 5 (36:02):
Bubblegups if you're a young quarterback.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Okay, just directly from the feeling of a quarterback. Michael
Parsons with the three D Attackers now hearing back.

Speaker 12 (36:22):
Good morning football, Welcome back to everybody, especially a good
morning to Packers station.

Speaker 5 (36:29):
Yes, this is not a dream.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
MICHAEH.

Speaker 12 (36:31):
Parsons is now a member of the Green and Gold.
This deal one of the biggest in NFL history. Former
Packer safety and friend of the Show, Leroy Butler joined
the Insiders right after this trade became official, and he
talked about how Parsons will help this young Rebay defense.

Speaker 13 (36:47):
Listen, their defense was a young defense. They got a
lot of turnovers, but the sacks weren't there. Michael Parsons
affects everything, especially when you open up what a team
that really triggers me. Like Detroit, It's history because of
all of the people saying the Packers would never do that.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
Not only would we do it, not only would we
do it, but now we.

Speaker 13 (37:14):
Want all the smoke to try to get to a
super Bowl. Okay, And this was therapy for me because
when I go in there and they're gonna honor Martin Murphy,
the first question is he gonna wear number eleven? I say,
don't worry about number eleven. Close that chapter, were number
thirty six.

Speaker 12 (37:35):
My number with that smile reflecting the way all of
us Packer fans are feeling this morning. But I will
say thirty six and eleven are both spoken for, so
we're gonna have to see sort of what barter system
comes into play there. But it's so interesting as a
Packer fan. I was excited right about this, but a
little hesitant. And Kyleie, you think about it.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
The Packers, you said it.

Speaker 12 (37:54):
They don't really make these big, splashy moves. They usually
have a quiet offseason. They draft a wide receiver in
the first round, and now they bring in this big
player in a trade with a person's This does not
feel very Green Bayish at all.

Speaker 3 (38:07):
No it doesn't.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
And by the way, I love Luray Butler. Thirty six
for Mica parts is the worst iday I've ever heard.
You know, Roy, it would never happen. He not wearing
thirty six. But by the way, where anything you want.
We're eleven, we're twelve, we're four.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
Who cares? Where whatever you want? And show up.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
We're talking so much about the Cowboys, and I understand
why because it's just so shocking. It was a massive,
massive deal that the Packers pulled this deal, and what
they pulled it for, and the fact that they have
this guy now in his prime, this young Like it's
just we're going to talk a lot about the Packers
moving forward, guys at the table. But like the Cowboys
thing leads to day, the Packers thing will lead this season.

(38:43):
We won't be talking about Micah and the Cowboys anymore
than we should when it comes to the football.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
This is a Packers conversation.

Speaker 7 (38:48):
Yeah, well, you know, you talk about what the Packers
are good at.

Speaker 9 (38:51):
They're good at stopping the run. You know, they were
really good at stopping run. I think it was like
top I think seventh. I think they were in a
rush defense. Past defense is where they needed some help.
And then when you get rid of Jayra Alexander, you need.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
A lot of help.

Speaker 9 (39:03):
And when you draft somebody or trade for somebody like
Michael Parsons, that is an aspect of past defense that
you really needed if you're the Green Bay Packers in
a division that's going to throw the ball around the yard.

Speaker 7 (39:14):
So I think it was a it's a big, big
addition for the Green Bay Packers, and I know Packers
fans are happy. I know you're Kevin Parry. Yeah, it
was a heck of a deal for the Packers.

Speaker 6 (39:22):
You think about the fact that you know, Ray just
mentioned it at they're at top of the league in
terms of rush defense and they didn't even have Kenny
Clark for most of last year. So they give rid
of Kenny Clark because they feel like they could still
be as impactful without him. And now you pair up
Michael Parsons where Rashan Gary. You talk about the fact
that they gave up two first round picks, but they're
low first round picks because the Packers.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
Picked twenty fifth last year, so you pretty.

Speaker 6 (39:43):
Much give up to twenty five, you know, twenty fifth
pick first round picks for the Michael Parsons, it's a
good deal for them. It sounds like you gave up
a lot, but in reality, in Green Bay Nation, you're good.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
Guys.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
I have an impromptu trivia question for everybody at the table. Okay,
we've talked a lot about Cowboys past and the presidence.
Who can name the team that the Dallas Cowboys played
against in their last appearance in the NFC title game,
the final time they've done it since then?

Speaker 3 (40:14):
Who did they play in that game?

Speaker 7 (40:15):
It see title game, title game to get there.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
It was January of ninety six.

Speaker 7 (40:21):
Then who was it?

Speaker 3 (40:22):
Packers? It was the Packers. They were Packer, the Brad
Barb Packers.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
It was an incredible game at Texas Stadium pre Jerry World.
That is the last title game for the Cowboys. They
won it, they won the Super Bowl, but they did
play the Packers. And it's all coming back now thirty
years later, my friends.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
I was so distracted, Kyle by the fact that this
number conversation with the Jersey now has me totally head
down taking notes. I'm looking at Packers' retired numbers. The
fact that Jayden Reen has eleven right now, the fact
that Abdul Carter did change his number when he hit
the NFL. Now Mike has got it all branded up
with eleven in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (40:58):
However, would he be open minded.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
To changing it? There are some tenable options, there's some
terrible options as well. I Number one is available, I
believe for the Packers, so he could just just.

Speaker 7 (41:09):
Drop one and go with you'll pay for eleven.

Speaker 2 (41:12):
Yeah, all right, Jane Reid, you're about to get a
little bump in your yeah.

Speaker 12 (41:17):
Yeah, so the defense getting that bump.

Speaker 5 (41:19):
But yeah, certainly go pack go baby, open up a
room with the Heartbreak Hotel.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
Sorry, Dallas fans, this isn't even a Cowboys issue anymore.
In the last six months, Huka doncic gone, Michaeh Parson's gone,
Lakers better, Packers better, I says, taking as head.

Speaker 5 (41:40):
Of me, Kyle, your fuss, This is awesome.

Speaker 1 (41:44):
Hanging in the Love put in the Smithsonian is that's
one movie that shouldn't have had a sequel.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
And here we go, Isaiah, drink that in? How do
you feel? How do you put that in the cake? Listen?

Speaker 6 (41:55):
At this point, just don't get dual numbers, Okay, just
don't have a dual number in Dallas because you're probably
gonna get shipped off.
