I mean, we've been talking about it every single day because.

There's been injuries every day in Shadora Sanders is the latest.
I was down in Philadelphia a couple of days ago
and we were wondering why he wasn't taking reps with
team drills. It was that oblique injury that he had.
He will not play against the Eagles. They're calling it
day to day. So the hope is that he will
get some work at some point next week and maybe
play in the third preseason game. But right now you've
got Joe Flacco and Snoop Huntley is the only healthy

quarterback of the Browns.

I do find it funny that.

The alleged old guy is the only guy that hasn't
suffered an injury for the Browns at the quarterback position.
Dylan Gabriel, though, did practice the last couple of days.
I believe he threw that pass to David and Joekuo
that we're seeing right there night celebration, and they want
to continue to see how he respond over the next
day to see if he could possibly play here. It
was moving in the right direction, but they have to
see how he develops. I don't think he'll see Flacko,

who right now is in position a to be the
starting quarterback for the Browns, because Kenny Pickett still working
his way back, although he feels like he is turning
a corner corner. So I think you're gonna see Snow Puntley,
Dylan Gabriel, but you won't see those other guys because
they're still working their way back from injury or in
Flacco's case, going to get some rest. As for Aaron Rodgers,
he's going to get some rest.

Surprising because Mike Tomlin likes to play his starters in
the preseason, but.

He will not play.

although Tomlin has not yet answered that he's I'll get

There's a lot of trust that Tomlin is putting in
Aaron Rodgers, which is a big reason by the way,
that Rodgers went to Pittsburgh because he felt like Tomlin
handled the process well the entire way, no spring pretty
much and then not playing in the preseason a lot
of trust, although the returns as far as what's happening
in practice there seemed to be pretty good for Rogers
and the offense. And then there's Matthew Stafford who is supposed to.

Be back on the practice field by now with.

That disc issue that he's working threw gonna workout again
to see if he can get through that without any
issues and then perhaps progress to the point where he
can get back to practice. We are starting to get close.
You're starting to hear coaches talk about things. I heard
Cliff Kingsbury this morning talking about we got to.

in Justin Herbert. He will be suiting up this weekend
for the LA Chargers. Get this, even though he's about
to enter his sixth season in the NFL, the guys
that were played a preseason game. Now, he's had a
couple of different coaches, but this is a Jim Harbaugh
right now in his second year working together, and everyone's
(09:03):
wondering if it was a coach that made this decision.
Speaker 9 (09:08):
There's anything to go into him and saying, hey, it
would it be okay if you know I went in
and played, because I think in years past the plan was,
you know, to rest and see those reps. But I
wanted to go out there and see a pass rush
because you know, in practice as a quarterback, you don't
always get the true feeling of a pass rush. So
I thought it'd be helpful to go out there and
he was understanding, and we kind of worked together on

talking to plan our.

Joint closer to it than maybe in the I would
say that the same.
Speaker 9 (09:36):
I think it's more so to see a different defense,
and I think that's one of the good things that
we have done is is we've got, you know, a
scout team that has given us different looks, and I
think that's kind of the thing that we've done the
past couple of weeks of training for whether we're playing
the Rams or whether we're playing the Saints. But at
the end of the day, nothing is the same as
a live pass rush and being out there and actually
getting tackled. So I think that's one of the things

that's helpful about this week for sure.

I think we were addressing Rams fans already this morning.
Charges fans want thing to be desperately different than how
it's been in years past, especially with Herbert at quarterback.

different is their left tackle. So I know he's talking

Not on the panic scale yet because Joe Alt did
play left tackle at the University of Notre Dame. He
was an All American there, so I'm not panicking on that.
There's a few things besides Justin Herbert that I want
to see. I want to see omar In Hampton. I
want to see him. He played in the Hall of
Fame game for some reason, he didn't play last week.
And for running back that's drafted that high, and with

the status of Najia Harris being questionable but we don't
know when he's going to come back, I want to
see more of this rookie. I want to see him
start to get in the groove. I want to see him,
especially with Justin Herbert playing. I want to see this
new Greg Roman offense start to take form.

I would say about that Chargers defense.

Guys, they had eight turnovers and two like one of
them in the pick six. Don't throw to the right side,
that the flat of that defense, because every time a
quarterback throws that way, it's picked off and taken to
the house.

That I'm really looking forward to three things. Joe All
at left tackle, Amar and Hampton let's get him going
part this play in my half, like you only have
one more preseason like and that's going to be really
a game that a lot of teams use to analyze
their their talent that's on the bubble Omaria and Hampton
isn't on the bubble.

And then I want to say that defense continue to
dominate KB.

It's been nice to see it as a former charge
of myself.

It has I mean, it's in Herbert.

I think this is anytime someone's been in the league
this long as never played in the preseason. It's like
the quarterbacks playing in the preseason is kind of hot
right now. I feel like it's having to come back
and were huge taboo for years.

Why do it? Especially with an established guy by Herbert?
Now we're getting out there. You know, we heard a
younger guy like Caleb's gonna play this weekend.

We getn't see Jalen Hurtship, but we're seeing so many guys,
especially the guys you think would be the last to
play in the preseason, like Tua's out there making throws
and doing handoffsusin. Herbert is a notorious fast starter like
he legendarily. You remember his first career action ever was
he came in because Tyrod Taylor had this weird thing
to happen before the game. They throw Herbert in against
the Chiefs, ever, and he's amazing. I was just pulling

it up, Like if you look at Herbert's first three
games throughout his career, he's excellent. He's not one of
these guys who's shaky, throws a bunch of picks like,
He's not a guy who screams that like you got
to get him in on the preseason.

He's great. He's great right away. So this is just
a case of a it's becoming more popular. There's also
fewer preseason games, and I think this is a Hardbough factor.

You talk about the AFC West and everything you see
and everything you learn, and it's damn near a decade
that they always win the West. And it's like we
used to do with the Patriots every single year in
the preseason and August fifteenth before Patris Brady seasons, who
has the hoodspa to say no, it's gonna be the Jets.
This year, it was hard to do and people are

become Internet lower from saying the Patriots are done and
hot takes and all that stuff. So this year, let's
do another round of it twenty twenty five. Do we
think this is the year that one of these teams
rises up and gets the Chiefs? I think that what
makes it appealing. And I come back to this all
the time. It's not about Herbert, it's not about Geno Smith,
it's not about Bonicks. It is about the coaches, they've

in the AFC East with Brady when you run through
all these rigamarole with different coaches come in and out.

ten win team last year.

end of the day, it was like, I'm not going
back to the New York Giants. I'm not going to
be a part of that organization. It was time to

was time, after eleven years in the NFL and a
couple of great memories and a lot of great people
that I crossed paths with, to ride off into that

next career, which I'm more excited about than ever.

actually find it fascinating. There is like a technicality to retiring.
Is it like you have to fax paperwork or something like?
How does one actually make sure that thing is sign
sealed and delivered with the NFL.

Honestly, I haven't signed a thing. It was like the
player Trust reached out with me. I think that's that
maybe a little fake one day, or I don't want
to give away too much of the award of fans,
like they give you a piece of paper there, it's
more of a just a formality. I think for me,
what the most important part of this whole retirement process was, Yeah,
my daughter was there, my wife was there, my family

was there.

Really saying thank you to them.

It's been twenty five years of you know, practices, driving
me places, sacrificing, missing weddings, missing important events. To be
able to be there with with my family and my daughter,
who you know is a year and a half old now,
to see me do that, it was a very very
special moment, and the New York Giants did an amazing
job for me. Can't forget the Arizona Cardinals, where I

also played. I just very appreciated with both organizations.

That's really cool. We're happy for you too. But let's
talk about the current state of the Giants. I'm sure
you still hold them near and dear to your heart.

The two teams are going to play tomorrow night at
seven pm Eastern on NFL Network. Giants quarterback situation Russell
Wilson is the starter. However, the organization turned heads when
they jumped up and got Jackson Dart in late April
in Green Bay. Does he steal this job away from
Russell Wilson prior to week one?
Speaker 11 (28:55):
No, I don't think so, And this is no pun intended.
I've always felt this way. It's all about darts on
the dark board. You want to get as many quarterbacks
in that room competing at a high level. No one
out there in the world has just nailed, but this
is how you transition from one quarterback to the next,
aside from maybe the Green Day packers, but we don't
know what's going on up there.

I think you need the most competition ross as a starter.

Jamis has been a starter as a number one overall
pick Jackson darts in a first rounder. All those guys
at some point might have to play the better competition
you can have.

In New York is even more of a quandary than
anything else out there because it is a tougher place
to play. The amount of pressure that's on those guys.

offensive perspective, offensive lineman perspective, what type of threat does
that post to you?

You want closers and I said this and I tweeted

I gotta block him this week. The Giants have Brian Burns,
Who's a guy that makes you nervous We're forgetting Dexter Lawrence,
who I think has an opportunity to win Defensive Player
of the Year this year. I think last year, if

you look at the stats and the Giants had a
better record, you're talking about Dexter Lawrence. He is the
most dominant nose tackle in football. I went against him
since he was a rookie and I was on the
team with him. He is an unblockable force. Then you
add an Abdul Carter. Everything looks great right now when
you're looking at training camp.

He's done a lot of great things.
Speaker 11 (31:02):
Prove it to me. When you're a rookie. He's gonna
get one on one all year long. He better win
those matchups. He better dominate. I'm expecting an amazing year
out of him. And then Kavon Thibodeau. He's becoming this
guy that everyone's kind of getting on. He was a
very high pick. He's going to have a monster year.
He's probably feeling the pressure as well. When you draft somebody,
and I can give a perfect example, I was a

starting right tackle. We draft Eric Flowers ninth overall, it
makes you play better. I went on to have a
successful eleven year career. And I'm looking for that same
thing from Kayvon Tibeau to keep pushing to be dominant.
I actually want some bulletin war material for these guys, like,
prove it to me, d Line. I want to see
you prove it on Sundays because looking at the depth
chart and reading the tea leaves you look great right now.

day to see if he could possibly play here. It
was moving in the right direction, but they have to
see how he develops. I don't think he'll see Flacko,

who right now is in position a to be the
starting quarterback for the Browns, because Kenny Pickett still working
his way back, although he feels like he is turning
a corner corner. So I think you're gonna see Snow Puntley,
Dylan Gabriel, but you won't see those other guys because
they're still working their way back from injury or in
Flacco's case, going to get some rest. As for Aaron Rodgers,
he's going to get some rest.

in practice there seemed to be pretty good for Rogers

couple of different coaches, but this is a Jim Harbaugh
right now in his second year working together, and everyone's

wondering if it was a coach that made this decision.

There's anything to go into him and saying, hey, it
would it be okay if you know I went in
and played, because I think in years past the plan was,
you know, to rest and see those reps. But I
wanted to go out there and see a pass rush
because you know, in practice as a quarterback, you don't
always get the true feeling of a pass rush. So
I thought it'd be helpful to go out there and
he was understanding, and we kind of worked together on

Joint closer to it than maybe in the I would

I think it's more so to see a different defense,
and I think that's one of the good things that

a live pass rush and being out there and actually

You've retired, How do you feel what's going through the
head of yours?

Last year was that awkward year where I was talking
to teams, I was out doing some media. At the
end of the day, it was like, I'm not going
back to the New York Giants. I'm not going to
be a part of that organization. It was time to
hang them up. The body lets you know. And it
was time, after eleven years in the NFL and a
couple of great memories and a lot of great people
that I crossed paths with, to ride off into that

next career, which I'm more excited about than ever.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Justin, can you clear that up real quick, because I
actually find it fascinating. There is like a technicality to retiring.
Is it like you have to fax paperwork or something like?
How does one actually make sure that thing is sign
sealed and delivered with the NFL.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
So it becomes as you say, official.
Speaker 11 (27:40):
Honestly, I haven't signed a thing. It was like the
player Trust reached out with me. I think that's that
maybe a little fake one day, or I don't want
to give away too much of the award of fans,
like they give you a piece of paper there, it's
more of a just a formality. I think for me,
what the most important part of this whole retirement process was, Yeah,
my daughter was there, my wife was there, my family

was there.
Speaker 8 (28:02):
Really saying thank you to them.
Speaker 11 (28:04):
It's been twenty five years of you know, practices, driving
me places, sacrificing, missing weddings, missing important events. To be
able to be there with with my family and my daughter,
who you know is a year and a half old now,
to see me do that, it was a very very
special moment, and the New York Giants did an amazing
job for me. Can't forget the Arizona Cardinals, where I

also played. I just very appreciated with both organizations.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
That's really cool. We're happy for you too. But let's
talk about the current state of the Giants. I'm sure
you still hold them near and dear to your heart.
They're currently holding a joint.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Practice with the Jets oead of the Snoopy Bowl.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
The two teams are going to play tomorrow night at
seven pm Eastern on NFL Network. Giants quarterback situation Russell
Wilson is the starter. However, the organization turned heads when
they jumped up and got Jackson Dart in late April
in Green Bay. Does he steal this job away from
Russell Wilson prior to week one?
Speaker 11 (28:55):
No, I don't think so, And this is no pun intended.
I've always felt this way. It's all about darts on
the dark board. You want to get as many quarterbacks
in that room competing at a high level. No one
out there in the world has just nailed, but this
is how you transition from one quarterback to the next,
aside from maybe the Green Day packers, but we don't
know what's going on up there.
Speaker 8 (29:14):
I think you need the most competition ross as a starter.
Speaker 11 (29:18):
Jamis has been a starter as a number one overall
pick Jackson darts in a first rounder. All those guys
at some point might have to play the better competition
you can have.
Speaker 8 (29:27):
Finding a guy that can play.
Speaker 11 (29:28):
In New York is even more of a quandary than
anything else out there because it is a tougher place
to play. The amount of pressure that's on those guys.
Russ is your day one starter.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
Well, somebody who we know is going to be a
day one starter as a rookie is going to be
Abdul Carter classmate, just as my classmate.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
We're drafted here.
Speaker 6 (29:46):
Yes, yes, the Giant said they're going to take me,
and then I'm excited to sit there that the draft
and then they draft this guy named Justin Pugh.
Speaker 8 (29:55):
Don't do that, don't don't cut your fist under the.

Anyway, back to my question, So defensively, one of the
highlights of that team last year was that rush. You
had Thipotdoal, he had Burns, you had all of those guys.
Now you have something like Abdull Carter. I would love
to have that as my defensive front. But from an
offensive perspective, offensive lineman perspective, what type of threat does
that post to you?
Speaker 8 (30:19):
Oh, it's the best thing.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Ever.

When you get into the fourth quarter.
Speaker 11 (30:21):
You want closers and I said this and I tweeted
this out. You want Tuesday ors and a Tuesday or
is a guy that you turn on the film on
Tuesday when you start breaking down an opponent and you're like,
I gotta block him this week. The Giants have Brian Burns,
Who's a guy that makes you nervous We're forgetting Dexter Lawrence,
who I think has an opportunity to win Defensive Player
of the Year this year. I think last year, if

you look at the stats and the Giants had a
better record, you're talking about Dexter Lawrence. He is the
most dominant nose tackle in football. I went against him
since he was a rookie and I was on the
team with him. He is an unblockable force. Then you
add an Abdul Carter. Everything looks great right now when
you're looking at training camp.
Speaker 8 (31:00):
He's done a lot of great things.
Speaker 11 (31:02):
Prove it to me. When you're a rookie. He's gonna
get one on one all year long. He better win
those matchups. He better dominate. I'm expecting an amazing year
out of him. And then Kavon Thibodeau. He's becoming this
guy that everyone's kind of getting on. He was a
very high pick. He's going to have a monster year.
He's probably feeling the pressure as well. When you draft somebody,
and I can give a perfect example, I was a

starting right tackle. We draft Eric Flowers ninth overall, it
makes you play better. I went on to have a
successful eleven year career. And I'm looking for that same
thing from Kayvon Tibeau to keep pushing to be dominant.
I actually want some bulletin war material for these guys, like,
prove it to me, d Line. I want to see
you prove it on Sundays because looking at the depth
chart and reading the tea leaves you look great right now.

You're never great until you do it. You know when
