Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Hey, it's good Morning Football, everybody. We are presented by
Old Trapper Beef Jerky. It is Friday, October, third, end
of year week, but we are looking ahead.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
The week five. I'm Jamie heard all. This is Van's idea.
We're in la.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Kyle Brandt is joined by an Eagles legend, Brandon Graham. However, Kyle,
I'm quite proud of Beg. He's really expanding his knowledge
and sprinkling us with little tidbits about all thirty two,
not just that team that resides in Philadelphia and.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Doing great well.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Brandon Graham is a member of the media right now,
and I'm going to touch them. Brandon Graham, I want
you to say something nice about the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
I will that, boy. I'm sorry. I'm still kid you won't.
We're breaking him in. Let's start this show.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Welcome to Good Morning Football, presented by Bold Trapper. Yeah,
that's right. We've entered spooky season on GMFB.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
And I'm not just talking about what went down between
the Rams and the forty nine ers last night. It's
Jamie MANSI, Beg and Kyle, welcome in everybody. My gosh, Kyle,
it was something to behold last night, whether it be
the defenses, the kicking game, the quarterbacks from both sides.
It was wild, especially considering what you said about the
(01:34):
forty nine ers and everything that they had been dealt
so far this season.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
See Jamie, when you said last night, my mind just
went to the life of the showgirl. The new LP
released by a popstar, Taylor Swift, which came out at midnight,
I have to say, I'm scanning the tracks. I see
this word that's coming over and over on my Amazon
Music app, and the word is explicit after track four,
track five, track six, track. I mean, what is this
an NWA album? What am I looking at right? Explicit?
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Explicit? Jamie explained it, well.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Often times we look at the backside of the New
York Post to understand what's happening in the sports world.
But I'm sure if you look at page six you'll
see many a headline from this new Taylor Swift album
that would.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Say her raunchiest songs yet.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
And I'm telling you Kyle track nine, And like, the
reason I keep saying Kyle's name is not to exclude
mantaim BG from this commentary, it's that that there is
a very specific cornerstone of our friendship.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
Kyle.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
A couple summers ago, you voice texted me lyrics where
you're like, I don't know what this song is, and
you sang it into.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
The phone and I wrote right back, it's style.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
And then therefore our friendship was I'll sang something in
the song into a voice memo, and you know, those
things just disappear, so like you have to trust that
it actually happened. But Kyle, I know that you are
going to be really into track nine, and yes, indeed
it is explicit.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Track nine is called wood Wood, which you can certainly
go some explicit routes on if you want.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
I won't.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
We'll go to the forty nine ers rams route because
it's the morning.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Here we go, NFL Action.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
And so Fin Stadium rolled the highlight.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Here we go.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
You know who played at Sofi Stadium for her concerts
through the airtour, Taylor Swift. But now it's mac Jones
and McVay says, all right, line up and just run
it right up the middle like it's nineteen sixty two,
and they do, and guess what happens.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
There's the team bus of the Niners.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
This parked right there at the first down line and
you can't run through it. Meg Bay afterwards, saying he
was disgusted, he was angry with himself.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
He didn't like the.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Call Bob Salah phw is the supplement. He's not his
sens for pure hard work. He told us that Kyra
and Williams really really upset Fred Warner and the Niners
are like, this is our division, come and get it.
That is a win for the San Francisco forty nine ers.
That could have ripple effects in December and January because
of how this division is shaping up. Twenty six to
(03:53):
three twenty three in ot let's go though to close
friend of the show, always been a support of the show,
Steve Weisbeck from day one. He is out there on
the field with the start from Stamford in forty nine
or start running back Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
A lot of things.
Speaker 6 (04:10):
Happened tonight, but what about the way your deepense just
stood up to win this game. I don't have enough
good things to say about him. They bailed us out
thirty times in this game, and lucky they're on our team. Man,
I'm just so thankful to be a part.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Of this group.
Speaker 6 (04:26):
Now, we had everybody and their mother count us out,
and you know, for a lot of guys who just
got here, you know, changing positions, injuries, all this other stuff.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
To play through that that's a big deal. I'm so
proud of our guys.
Speaker 7 (04:37):
You talk about all the injuries, the first team that
had to go as deep into the depth chart as
you to go to overtime.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
And to come down to kick a game winning field goal.
What does that say about the resiliency of this team.
I mean, we don't blink. You know, we got the
right kind of character.
Speaker 6 (04:51):
We've got great leaders on this team, with great staff
who gets guys ready to play short week, long week,
whatever it is.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
I'm proud to be a part of them.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Third time in Kyle Shanahan's coaching career he starts a
season four and one or better. Shanahan figured it out
last night in La. Now the forty nine ers sit
alone atop the NFC West. As Kyle said, this thing
could have massive implications in December. MANSI big time takeaway
from this rejuvenated rivalry.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
When was it ever dead?
Speaker 7 (05:18):
It was never ever it was never and the forty
nine Ers will never be either because the way that
you know, Coach Shanahan had them playing it was a
gutsy win by the entire organization from top down. Now,
in the first hour I talked about the forty nine ers.
This hour, I'm going to talk about the Rams. I
think the Rams when you look at there are three
major mistakes that they made. Number one where the turno
wheres you can go to that. But number two was
(05:39):
the block field goal. But the greatest mistake I thought
that happened by joshuaccarty was the first kickoff in overtime.
How he doesn't get into the kicking zone. Now, if
you don't kick it within the inside the twenty yard line,
the ball comes out to the forty. Now, when you
have a San Francisco forty nine Ers team that has
(06:00):
been driving on the La Rams defense the entire game
and they get to start from the forty, it's almost
it's an automatic field goal at that point, Like they
just got to get twenty yards and now they're.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
In field goal range.
Speaker 7 (06:11):
Now, Sean McVeigh did say in this postgame presser that
he did blame himself for some of his play calling,
and I think.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
A lot of it he was alluding to is that fourth.
Speaker 7 (06:20):
And one stop that the San Francisco forty nine ers
had at the end of the game to seal it.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
I don't think it was a bad call.
Speaker 7 (06:26):
I think if i'm Sean mcvayhon, I'm looking at my
field goal unit and in two critical situations my field
goal team got blocked. I think you're looking at a
situation like, Okay, I don't want to put this game
in the hands of my kicker. I want to put
it in the hands of Matt Stafford in that offense
and try to win this game outright. So I thought
(06:47):
those were the three things, the three takeaways, as far
as looking at the rams that cost him the game yesterday,
KB Brandon, what do you think, Well.
Speaker 8 (06:56):
I really just thought that Karen made a big mistake
in that moment. They did so many different things in
that game. It was a hard fought battle between both teams.
But you can't make that fumble on on the goal line.
You got to protect the ball. We always talk about reaching.
Nick Sirianni talks about that in our in our team
meetings all the time, about reaching for the ball, even
(07:16):
though he he he, you know, got it punched out
like Jaylen Carter did. Uh, he got some film out
there on getting it punched out.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
But man, that was just a heck of a player.
Speaker 8 (07:25):
That just can't happen in that in that type of game,
especially when you're about to go up, because I thought
the Rams would have won if definitely if Big would
have got in because they was, they was rolling and
so uh, when you make mistakes like that.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
That's that's what that's what happened.
Speaker 8 (07:39):
It cost you, uh in that moment and gave the
forty nine ers the momentum. And even on a play
calling you shouldn't even been in the you shouldn't even
went to the the overtime because of you know, just
from that one play.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
But I thought the Rams had it.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Listen, I said earlier in the show, Niners unbelievably cool
when and there's this real time John of This quotes
about never underestimate the heart of a champion. I feel
like the Niners are that version of that. This was
a game that they were supposed to get annihilated. And
Mac Jones plays I don't know the game of his life,
and everyone's chipping in it was really really cool. Also
just terrible loss by the Rams. But I think Mansi
touched on something. The Rams have two losses, and they
(08:16):
have those two losses because of getting kicks blocked. Like
remember in against Philadelphia, it's the walk off block. It's
another one in that game they got a kick blocked
in this point, the extra point that would have taken
the lead for them. That is an epidemic and it's
part of a bigger conversation because guys, I don't know
if you've seen this, but there is a skyrocketing rate
(08:37):
of blocked kicks this year.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
It is astronomical.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
It is not football, It is not anything norm that
we've studied over the years.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
And there's all kinds.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Of deep dives and I'm reading one on SI about
why is this happening and everything from the kicks are longer,
so the trajectory is lower too. There's not enough padded
practice time, so the special teamers are insufficient and they're
not blocking right. But if you're paying attention right now,
you can't watch a game, it seems for five minutes
without seeing an extra point or a field goal get blocked.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
The Rams have a major issue.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Mansiz just suggested that maybe McVay alter his philosophy because
he doesn't trust the kickering team not to miss the kick,
but to not be able to protect the kick.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
That's bunkers in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
It's something to keep an eye on because if we're
going to continue doing this, we say this all the time,
Kickers win Super Bowls, Kickers put guys in the Hall
of Fames, all of that, you need them. If we
are now seeing everyone's trying to for longer, but at
coin flip's chance it gets blocked, it's like the whole
sport is changing in front of us. Keep an eye
on it because it's the reason the rams are three
and two instead of five and zero.
Speaker 7 (09:37):
Well, it's a great that's a great pool, KB because
I think it's the year of block kicks, since it's
the year of running backs fumbling the ball in the
goal one. I think it's happened almost every week this year.
We had Romanjre Stevenson against the Steelers right there on
the one fumbles the ball. Then you had Brandon Allen
just on Monday Night Football this week fumbles the.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
Ball right on the one yard line. And then Kyrien
Williams does it last night.
Speaker 7 (09:56):
So to all of our points, I think you're looking
at a year you're seeing this, You're seeing the stat
kind of kind of rack up with all of these
block kicks and these guys down in the one yard
line that fumbled the ball, and it begs to argue,
you know about the Eagles, like that's why I have
the touch push, Like they just pushed the guy in
the end zone and they on fourth to one and
they get this thing and they don't fumble the ball.
(10:17):
So it's been actually interesting for us to see how
many times kicks have been blocked and how many times
running backs have fumbled this ball right on.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
The goal line.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Got to be willing to put your nose in there
with the touch push. We'll see if the Eagles handle
their business that way a couple of times this weekend
against the pretty good Denver Broncos defense, it's Broncos at Eagles,
And in fact, in the last couple of seasons, the
Eagles not only can beat up everybody on their way
to an NFC title and a Super Bowl appearance or two.
The Eagles are seventeen and four against AFC opponents under
(10:49):
head coach Nick Sirianni all right, they're setting to host
Sean Payton and the Broncos in Week five.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
So as we look ahead to this.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
One, MANSI knowing Sean Payton, knowing so much of the Eagles.
Speaker 7 (10:59):
What do you think, Well, what I'm looking for to is,
you know, there's a lot of talk about both defenses, rightfully, so, now,
the Denver Broncos have a really good pass rush. The
thing about the Eagles is they have a really good
quarterback that cannot only drop back, but he can scramble.
And since they don't have Drake green Law, and because
the Eagles have Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, that's something
(11:21):
why I think the Eagles matchup a lot better than
people think against against.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
The Denver Broncos defense.
Speaker 7 (11:27):
The Denver Broncos defense is really good at taking the
ball away. They have one of the best corners in
the game with Patrick Shirtan. But then their run defenses
has been a bit of concern early in the season.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
They've gotten better.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
The past week or two.
Speaker 7 (11:40):
However, going against a team like Philly, going against a
team that is led by a quarterback like Jalen Hurts
who will run the ball and he's not afraid to.
That's going to be a matchup that I'm looking forward
to this game.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
BG.
Speaker 8 (11:52):
I feel the same way man the run defense. If
we can get our run games started, it's going to
open up the pass. And then now it's about the matchups.
It's about Aj winning his matchup with pass Tartan or
whoever following him, and then Davonte Smith and then you
got Dallas Goddard who's gonna be in there very sneaky.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
But we got to establish the run.
Speaker 8 (12:12):
We gotta have that balanced offense that we want to
have in this game, because like you said, they run
defense is not as good, but we got to expose that.
If we don't expose that, then it's just as good
as their past because if we don't get any rushing
yards they are we're not exploiting their weaknesses. And so
I feel like Jalen and you know, KP coordinator Kvi
(12:35):
Patullo has got to be on the same page, and
I know they will, and they're getting on there all week.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
But we gotta establish the.
Speaker 8 (12:41):
Run and get Saquin involved and get them at first
one hundred plus yard game and then get Aj and
Davonte and them boys in the mix and hopefully everybody scoring.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Well, let's talk about it.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Jay, Let's just let's just hit the brakes and we'll.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Talk about Aja.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Last game, you know that Jalen Hurts did not complete
a pass in the second half. Therefore, a J, you're
not catching any passes. It's been a slow statistical start
of the.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Season on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Do's this thing that comes back and apologizes after a
week of even full on trade rumors?
Speaker 4 (13:10):
And now they're going there four to zho.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
They're going against a very talented Denver team and not
only do you face the challenge of do we have
to get Aj involved early? Now it might be out
of your hands even if you want to. I don't
know even know if Aja is going to be open
because he's going to against the defensive player of the
year in Pat Sertan. So it's this thing they have
to deal with. And Brandon, I know you've played with AJ.
You wont a super Bowl with AJ? You know where
(13:34):
are we at this week going into this game? If
we go through the first three offensive series, even if
they're successful and AJ.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
Has not had a catch, AJ has not had a target.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Isn't it something that is being talked about and gets
bigger and bigger because it feels.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Like that's us.
Speaker 8 (13:48):
Well, it's about them making sure that they don't listen
to that outside noise because it can't be frustrating. And
I do understand both sides of AJ's point and want
the team's point and nothing should be bigger than the team.
But we do have a great team of players that
could really help us win games in a big way.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
And so I just say it's a it's a happy.
Speaker 8 (14:09):
Medium in there where they got to find it, and
I know they will, but they can't get frustrated if
the first three is not it.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
Because the next three might be.
Speaker 9 (14:18):
Well what is?
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Let's what is AJ's point, because just from him, I'll
be the media thing.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
All right, you are a super Bowl champion. You are paid.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
It's not like you're trying to fight for a contract.
We know you're talented, but you just see that four
and that O down there, and you're like, dude, can
you just not right now?
Speaker 4 (14:35):
If we lose in the passing game? Is the reason?
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Sure, but just there's a time and a place. So
help me with what is AJ sided because I respect that.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Now, but I understand what you're saying.
Speaker 8 (14:44):
It is a time and a place, and of course
he's on up to the one the things that he's
done up to this point, but now I hope for
him it's a learning a learning experience, and then you
just go out there and ball out, man, because your
time will come.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
If you don't force it.
Speaker 8 (14:59):
It will come, and it will come bigger than.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
You even thought it would in your mind.
Speaker 8 (15:03):
So I just think it's the way he handles handles
everything moving forward. And I know that they have a
great leadership, great leadership in that building, and I know
that it's frustrating for it because of course I want
you to be in the pro I want you to
be in the Hall of Fame. I want him to
have all those different accolades, because man, when you see
him and you see him in person, you see him
in practice every day, you know what he can do.
(15:25):
And Jalen knows what he can do. Everybody knows what
he can do. And it's all about us just getting
on the same page, making sure that we're not letting
the outside noise be too loud in the building. It's
more about what we do as a as a togetherness
that you got to have. And so with all this
other stuff that's going on. We got to quiet the
noise by just doing our job and just focusing on
(15:48):
what we can control. And that's making sure we on
the same page. Coach, We on the same page. Jalen,
We on the same page. Davante, what everything with the
running game to the passing game, Like, everybody has to
do their job, and I know that they're going to
be moving forward.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
They're gonna do it.
Speaker 8 (16:03):
And I love the cho because we had chaos last
year and we still want it all because it's about
addressing those elephants in the room, and those guys are
doing that, and I feel like this this week is
a great test for us to really get back on track,
even though we're four and oh and yeah, people don't
like some of the ways that we've been winning or whatever,
but I think that Aja and everybody are just we
(16:27):
we gonna get you there, baby, Okay, it's about it's
about just us just doing this. We got to build
to this like we did last year and like like
we did last year, and so it's coming.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
It's coming back. K KB.
Speaker 7 (16:40):
I'm gonna put it in our terms right on GMFB.
Right we're all trying to achieve something great. We're all
trying to on TV, trying to get like an Emmy.
Imagine if we get an Emmy, which is a super
Bowl in football terms, and I didn't contribute as a
member of this team, I wouldn't feel as connected to
that trophy as somebody like yourself who does all the segments,
(17:01):
anger runs and all of that. So I see where
AJ Brown is coming from. He just wants to be
an asset. He just wants to when we get the
when there's that parade that I know that I contributed
at a level with that. Now we have that parade,
So I'm supporting AJ Brono all the way.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Excellent explanation by everybody. I appreciate the deep dive, and
I for one will take a five second stance of
just roll the ball out and play and let's just
focus on what's happening on the field and just get
the ball to it from time to time. Moving on GMFB,
Tom Pellasero, welcome inside. We got Broncos, Eagles, We've got Jets, Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
We've got a.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Plethora of games to look forward to.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
However, unfortunately for you, Tom, you got to tell us
about some injuries that we're keeping an eye on in
week five.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
What's up?
Speaker 9 (17:38):
That's right, Jamie.
Speaker 10 (17:39):
I'm sorry to interrupt, Man tis most meta sports semi
pitch that's ever existed to bring you some bad news.
But for the Bucks, it's not all bad. Their quarterback
Baker Mayfield back at practice in a full capacity on Thursday.
That's a good sign for you. Didn't practice on Wednesday
because of a knee issue as well as that right
biceps that has been lingering. Appears that he is headed
(18:01):
on track to be able to be out there and
start on Sunday. At the status of running back Bucky
Irvin is significantly more clouded. He's been in a walking
booth this week dealing with a foot injury. Todd Bowles
said Irving would need to be out of the boot
today in order to have a shot to play on Sunday.
Speaker 9 (18:17):
They practice in a little bit here.
Speaker 10 (18:19):
We'll keep an eye on that, but certainly sounds like
it's trending toward Bucky Irving not playing a Rashad White
getting the start for Tampa. As for the Vikings, they
will officially not have their quarterback JJ McCarthy ruled out
once again because of his high ankle sprain. That means
it'll be Carson Wentz getting another start for Minnesota behind
an offensive line that's got all kinds of issues, not
(18:40):
just JJ McCarthy ruled out right tackle Brian O'Neil, setter
Ryan Kelly, left guard Donovan Jackson. They're all out, as
is the backup center Michael Jurgens.
Speaker 9 (18:49):
This is not an ideal scenario as.
Speaker 10 (18:51):
You get set to go up against Miles Garrett and
maybe the best defense in the NFL. They do have
a buy to heal up after this one and then
a couple more weeks for JJ McCarthy to get that
ankle healed and also try it for the coaching staff
get him ready.
Speaker 9 (19:05):
Jamie to return Week seven against the Eagles.
Speaker 6 (19:11):
With the first pick, the Cleveland Browns Slac Baker Mayfield,
the New York Jets slack Damn Donald.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Rolls left lobs headsick cat touchdown, Donald Fire's one down
the left side line toards the end zone touch Jets touchdown.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
The bigger the challenge, the better for me.
Speaker 11 (19:28):
I'm very confident here that we're gonna win some games,
and I think you know I'm gonna be here for
a long time.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
The bron we'll get.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Their eleven point of the air and they're going to
the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
The Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield heading to the Carolina Panthers,
and mcadew says he views Sam Donald as the team starter.
Speaker 10 (19:46):
As God throws complete touchdown right side in Hollywood, the
quarterback has been cleaned off of waivers by the.
Speaker 9 (19:53):
Los Angeles Rams.
Speaker 7 (19:54):
Bayfield blinks it left side, end zone, touchdown.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
This guy's been here for two days. Bayfield throw start
the enze. Oh my god, it touchdown, Tampa Bay. You're
the chant by the crowd here. Let's go Baker.
Speaker 9 (20:10):
The forty nine ers have eated Sam Donald to a
one year deal.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
Sam Donald leaves.
Speaker 9 (20:16):
Minnesota to head to Seattle. He gets a chance to
be the starter in Seattle.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Seahawks Bocks is a great game that got me fired up.
It's a great game because the teams are really good
and the quarterbacks are really fun. But they also have
a very very similar journey to get here.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
Let's get into this, guys.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold that they were linked going back
to college. Sam Donald entered his junior year at USC
expected to win the Heisman, but it didn't work. Got
that way because the scrappy guy on the left won
it at Oklahoma. So then they go to the draft.
This is twenty eighteen. It's in Jerry World in Texas.
I was in the room when Roger Goodall announced Baker
(20:56):
Mayfield's name. There weren't cheers, they weren't booze, they were gasps.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
It was shocking.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
Everyone thought Sam Donald would go to the Browns. Jimmy
Haslin was in the state, ends with Donald's family at
the USC pro day. But Baker ran the perfect campaign
and Cleveland takes him. Sam Donald ends up with the Jets.
This is the Lamar Josh Allen Draft, all those things,
but then we get going, all right, Baker Mayfield to
the Cleveland Browns. Had to wait a little bit behind
(21:21):
to Rod Taylor, but then he comes in week three
twenty eighteen. The Browns had an epic losing streak at
this point, and he just went in those alternate uniforms
and primetime in Cleveland and lit it up.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
I remember this playing most of all.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
This is Jus Flandry with a left handed throat to
Baker for.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
The touchdown catch.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
He was the coolest story in the NFL and Baker said, quote,
I've just been waiting for my moment. I'm just getting started.
Looked like the Browns that found their men. Meanwhile, let's
go to twenty nineteen for the Jets and Sam Donald
shaky start in twenty eighteen bad Todd Bowles team twenty
nineteen an infamous night for Zamdald and I'm sorry we're
showing it, but it's part of his journey against the Patriots.
Not only was the football bad, he gave the New
(22:00):
York media in primetime the one thing they're so thirsty
for a juicy sound.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
But it went like this, keep bringing.
Speaker 11 (22:08):
It seeing ghosts.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
Seeing ghosts. That's not good.
Speaker 6 (22:24):
And you're what he said, they're gonna keep bringing I
would too, and they did.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
This is that weird.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Adam Gates Le'Veon bell New York Jets team, Sam Donald had.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
Mano at one point.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
It was just a really, really tough stay in New York. Meanwhile,
let's go to twenty twenty. Baker's got Cleveland cooking. He
has them in the playoffs in an empty stadium because
of COVID. Not only do they win in the playoffs,
they beat the rivals Steelers, who had owned them and
they scored forty eight points in Pittsburgh lost next week
in a tight game with the Kansas City Chiefs, but
(22:58):
again it looked like the Browns had their guy.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Meanwhile, next year, Sam Donald is done with the Jets.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
He goes to the Carolina Panthers in April twenty twenty,
when he was traded for draft picks.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Injury plagued, not.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
A good season does not work out. He finishes the
season with a four and seven record as a starter.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
And meanwhile things are starting to go for Baker too.
O'Dell is there.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
The chemistry isn't great, the media isn't great. He gets
absolutely destroyed there by TJ.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
Watt.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Baker goes with a torn labrum and it just kind
of didn't go well at all. It ended really bitterly,
and the Browns trade for Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
Baker promptly requests his own.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Trade and goes to Sam Donald's Carolina Panthers. Here's the picture.
This is a real thing. What a bizarre chapter in
those guys history. In fact, in NFL history. They competed
for the starting job. Baker beat Sam Darnold, but again
it just wasn't good. Baker's record is total record his
entire time with the Carolina Panthers, one in five. He
(23:58):
would request the trade from the Panthers and it was grant.
In fact, he was released on December fifth, number sixth.
The next day he's signed by the Sean McVay rams
with Matthew Stafford hurt.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
He starts the game.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
He is there insofar against the Raiders, having been with
the organization for two days, and he orchestrates a ninety
eight yard.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
Game winning drive.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
He was the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. It
was one of the coolest things of the entire season.
It was a ridiculous loss for the Raiders. Baker would
play only five games for Sean McVay would credit it
for rejuvenating his career. He said, quote, it brought the
fun back. When I'm talking trash and having fun, I'm.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
At my best. I needed that.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Well, you know what the Bucks needed at that point,
they needed a quarterback. This is post Brady and Baker
there signing to become Tampa Bay's new quarterback. Sam Darnold
meanwhile leaves Carolina as well. He is a backup in
San Francisco for Kyle Shanahan. Much like Mac Jones is presently.
He was behind Brock Purdy. He played very, very little,
(24:59):
and then after that one year it's kind of like
doing a year of grad school or a year abroad.
He goes to Minnesota and we know how that went.
This is all we have to last year, the twenty
twenty four Minnesota Viking, Sam Donald lighting up the sky
fourteen and three. He goes to the playoffs. It was underwhelming.
They had JJ McCarthy already who was rehabed.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
From his injury. And so Sam Donald goes to Seattle.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
He's in Seattle, Baker Mayfield is in Tampa.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
It is come full circle.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Look at the flannel looks right out of a nineteen
ninety one Grung jabble.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
It's screaming trees. But we are arrived now in twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Were the kid from usc and the kid from Oklahoma
are now the franchise quarterback in Seattle and the franchise
quarterback in Tampa, and they will play this weekend.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
Unbelievable. Look at that.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
That's the journey with so many cross paths.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
One of the best.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Matchups we have going on here. Also, let's end it
with a sound bite, as only Baker can. Baker was
asked if he still talks to Sam and if they
ever look back and reminisce about that wonderful time they
shared Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 12 (26:06):
Sam and I are really close. I'm just happy for him.
It's just, you know, from going a couple of different
places that weren't great for us to having a good
opportunity elsewhere. It's it's fun to see. And I knew
he just needed that opportunity, another chance, and so he's
thriving now and it's it's good to see.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
But hopefully not this weekend.
Speaker 7 (26:26):
You guys, reminisce about the good old days in Carolina.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Reminisce about what days?
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Good old days in Carolina? Oh nope, same draft class,
so many similar stories, same terrible time in Carolina that
you just mentioned. But same mission right now to take
their newest team to four and one against the other
guy and then to shake hands and hug it out afterwards.
Two of the more likable guys in the league and
(26:55):
two of the more incredible journeys Baker Darnold, This weekend, guys,
don't miss it.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
More Good Morning football right after this.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
Mad minute Round two sixty seconds on the clock. We
got to a handful of games in the first hour
of GMFB. Now we are checking in with the second
set Sunday four, twenty five pm Eastern on Fox.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
It's Lions Bengals.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
Now.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
We heard from Mike Garrifolo that the Bengals are attempting
to have like a striped fan situation. But now Honolulu
Blue is checking in and they're gonna be like rain
drops in there. Kyle, So what do you make of
Lions Bengals ahead a Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
This one could get ugly.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
I'd loath to say that, because I think you could
have said that last night about Rams Niners and the
Niners one. The Cincinnati Bengals lead the NFL in punts.
Detroit for the last three weeks has looked like a
top three NFL team. I just if you're gonna have
anything Zach Taylor at Al like, then this is it.
Because these teams are going in different directions. And if
(27:51):
this is another miserable showing for Cincinnati, then we're like
great glass in case of for burns, we have to
trade for some What are we gonna do?
Speaker 4 (27:56):
I hope they show up with something. Man Tal Yeah.
Speaker 7 (27:58):
You know, if you watch our show yesterday, we had
a great guest, Khalif Raymond, like one of the best
interviews we ever had on the show, and KB just said,
Cincinnati punchs the ball more than anybody in this league.
Guess who catches the ball for the Detroit Lions, cut
leef Raman. So I'm rooting for the guy who's an
amazing human being, has a great story, and I guess
he's gonna get a lot of punts this week.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Yeah, I said the same thing.
Speaker 8 (28:18):
Hey, these boys are gonna be punting and the Lion's
gonna get a big win that the defense ain't gonna
be able to stop them boys this week.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
I appreciate that Kyle tiptoed into that, but the assessment is, man,
we couldn't even make it a full minute on that preview.
Here we go, Commanders, Chargers.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
The Chargers have.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Been ping ponging across continents to start this season. They
look great, but then they ran into a rookie quarterback last.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Week in New York.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Sounds like good news manti for the Commanders, as they
may get Jayden Daniels back after his absence.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
What do you think of this one.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Yeah, they're going to get Jadeen Daniels back.
Speaker 7 (28:52):
But the Commanders are also one of those teams that
there's a lot of injuries, according to Tom p in
the beginning of our show with the Receiving Corps for that,
for that team of the Commanders, of me being a
former Charger, I mean O Marion Haampton wand the scepter.
So let's go, let's keep that physicality, let's go.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
Let's go Chargers.
Speaker 8 (29:10):
I say Chargers this week, they Washington got a fly
all the way to the West coast to try to
get a win. And Jaydon Daniels coming off that knee,
I mean, he's going to be a little rusty. But
I like the Chargers to win the division and I'm
still I'm gonna take them right now in this game too.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
I think that one of the Commanders are one of
the more confusing teams. We're through four games for these guys.
A lot of teams I know what they are, a
lot of teams you know what they are. I'm not
sure what the Commanders are.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Yet.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
They had a terrible, terrible defensive performance nobody really expected too.
And two I thought we were just saying we're just
gonna ride this. Jadon Daniels express he's banged up. The
dan Quinn defense is not what we thought it was
going to be so.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
Far, it's fine.
Speaker 9 (29:49):
They both were all ahead of them.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
I just like to show who they really are this weekend,
and I hope it's not losing.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
On the road.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Sunday Night football Patriots Bills, and what I love about
this matchup in particular, and Kyle mentioned it at the
end of last hour when we were donning the icy
blue Buffalo jerseys, is that these two teams the AFC
East have combined for the last sixteen titles. The Patriots
had the run from nine to nineteen and the Bills
have fully taken over BG. This feels like a good
(30:14):
one or resurgence of a rivalry if you will, what
do you think will happen Sunday Night.
Speaker 8 (30:18):
I think the Bills are gonna take their first loss, Drake,
this is your first big challenge. But the Patriots defense
I like against the Bills. I like my guy Milton
Williams to get them a sack in the game. I'm
gonna shout you out, big boy, I know you out
there leading them boys on the d line.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
I said them boys. I did say them boys a couple.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
Number.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
The Patriots get that win a week, well that would
be it would be incredible.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
The Bills team is four and oh, and I think
we think of them as as one of the top
teams than they are. It doesn't mean they're not flawed.
Their defense is given up a ton of big plays.
In fact, we think of you don't think of the
Cowboys defense man tire, how many big plays it's given up.
The Bills has given up as many big plays on
defense as the Cowboys have. But they've got Josh All.
He just makes everything go away and the offense runs
over anybody. It's kind of like they're gonna lose a
(31:03):
game event Is it this one?
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Personally?
Speaker 1 (31:05):
I don't think so. I think they'll still do enough
on offense. But what do you think?
Speaker 7 (31:09):
Well, what I think is this, guys. I don't think
there's enough could be said about Howard Landry. Howard Landry,
the old school veteran, has probably played his best football
yet with the Patriots, So I'm looking forward to him
doing that again this week.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
All right, Moving on to the Kansas City Chiefs and
the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
We're jumping all the way to Monday.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Night Football on this one, I believe, which is interesting
because the Jags.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
Are feeling themselves.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Liam Cohen put a bit of a puffier chest out
display after their win on the road against the forty nine.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
Ers last week. But the Chiefs, if.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
You watch them closely against the Ravens, they dismantled them
last week, and so Chiefs Jags. My gosh, Kyle, would
you call this a bit of a season defining signature win?
Speaker 3 (31:48):
If the Jacks could pull this off at.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
Home, it's certainly an incredible start.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Remember this is a rematch of a playoff game for
a few years ago, Trevor Lawrence versus Patrick Mahomes when
Lawrence had a going and now you know he's had
a couple of rough years since then. But I mean
four and one is four and one. I didn't press
their three in one, brand new head coach. The story
of this game to me would be like, again, what
are the Chiefs so impressed last week?
Speaker 4 (32:09):
So much Xavier Worthy, so much of all that going on?
Speaker 1 (32:12):
Are they fully back or is this still a little
bit sleepy.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
We'll know in this game at time.
Speaker 7 (32:16):
Guys, I'm really wondering, like, what are we going to
do with Travis Hunter at this point? You know what
I mean, Like, is it time guys who just focus
him on one side of the football because playing him
both sides. We talked about this before the season started,
it's almost impossible. So instead of watering him down, just
put him offensive or defense and let him work, because
I really think it's it's it's hindering his performances so
(32:37):
far this year.
Speaker 8 (32:38):
I agree with you. So that's why I'm going coaching
with the Chiefs this week because they do look like
they got they swaggered back a little bit, uh playing against.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
The Ravens last week.
Speaker 8 (32:47):
You know, they was they was definitely saying a whole lot,
And so I think they'd do the same that.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
You know, when you like try to open a door
to protect your walt And yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
That doesn't have to do like the end of some
timing of something. It's supposed to be like a bell
or a ding or a buzzer when the clock.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
Runs out, you don't hear that.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
At the bottom of the barrel of the sound effect.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
You know what I love about the audio, guys, is
that when we start to essentially like insult the sound
that they selected, they just play it incessantly for the night.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
There it goes is keep going, Jammy to your point,
let's do one more and at the end of the clock,
I would like the strangest, most nonsensical sound effect that
doesn't have anything to do with what we're doing. You
have sixty seconds to find it, Jamie tios up.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Sometimes people would say that the international games are strange
and nonsensical, So it's perfect. Vikings Browns Sunday Morning Football.
It's the first of three games to be played in
London this NFL season, three straight for the next three
weeks on NFL Network. Vikings Browns and a rookie quarterback beg,
what do you.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
Think Vikings on this one?
Speaker 8 (33:51):
Because of the experience of them already going to Dublin,
you know what it feels like being an international international game,
that experience is definitely going to carry them for And
this one, Gabriel, I'm sorry, but you came in at
a time and these boys is ready.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
And uh yeah, this is Dylan Gabriel who makes history
by becoming the first quarterback ever to make his first
career start in an international game. And I as you
guys know, I'm rooting like hell for him. I think
he is a sympathetic figure. I think all he's ever
done is everything right and said the right things and
made the right throws. And yet he's surrounded by so
much noise and so many lightning rodsers like, all right,
(34:26):
get out of here so we can see Dion's kid.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
I hope he comes out of play as well.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
And I'm so excited for the SoundBite in fifteen seconds,
make you lay.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
Out, I will.
Speaker 5 (34:33):
Greg Newsom came on this show earlier and.
Speaker 7 (34:36):
Talked about how fast he gets the ball out. Now,
with Tommy Reese as offensive coordinator, get to the ball,
snap the ball, and let him get the ball to
whatever keeper.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
Damn rooster.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Start the show that way instead of our Melissa. You
should just have that too. We've gone mad. I had
a week five
