Speaker 3 (00:13):
Don't be scared. We're gonna have some fun.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Kyle Brants in New York ready to rock and roll,
Mike Ham Mosiah stand back, and of course former defensive
tackle us A Ball here in.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Los Angeles, Cali. I know we're all ready to roll,
well kind of.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
We have two huge guests this segment. We're supposed to
promote them and say their name. We don't know who
they are. They're mystery guests. They're sitting waiting to come
in right now. We're about to interview them, but first
we have to figure out who they are. In honor
of Father's Day. I'm excited, but I'm a little nervous.
That's our sweet spot, Good Morning Football.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Let's go.
Speaker 5 (00:59):
Good mom mom.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
We're going to bring in the son or daughter of
an NFL figure, and we're going to ask this son
or daughter questions and try to figure out who their
NFL father is.
Speaker 6 (01:12):
All right, we have a young lady, good morning. How
are you? Good morning? I'm great.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
How are you guys?
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Is your dad? Alison Layer?
Speaker 6 (01:23):
No?
Speaker 7 (01:23):
It's the primary color for the organization.
Speaker 6 (01:25):
That you've bet let's get give it away purple. It's
your dad, head coach.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yes, anybody want to have a guess?
Speaker 6 (01:35):
Yeah, John Hallball, Yes, a who's got it better than us?
Speaker 1 (01:45):
No? No, that was so fun. We had no idea
John Horva is coming on the show. I don't think
he's ever been on the show in nine years. Will
we have the same thing now? It's going to be
a little bit different. Okay, Because we had so much
fun yesterday, we decided to dial it up. My friends,
what we have right now are two guests. We're gonna
(02:05):
come out at the same time, but they're going to
be obscured. We're not gonna be able to see who
they are. We're John now joined by a dad and
a son who are connected to the league. I am
so excited to see them. Please don't say anything, don't
give it away.
Speaker 6 (02:20):
There they are. Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
All right, this is a little creepy.
Speaker 6 (02:23):
By the way, How are you doing good? How you doing?
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (02:28):
I'm nervous and excited, and we don't know who you are.
So we have the dad on the top, the son
on the bottom, and we're going to figure out who
they are. I'm going to start with the questions. Then
we'll go around the horn. Dad, were you a player
in the NFL?
Speaker 6 (02:44):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (02:45):
I was?
Speaker 6 (02:47):
Okay, all right, go ahead, guys.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Nice question is for the son? What college did you attend?
Speaker 6 (02:53):
Alabama? No? That doesn't help answer already. H oh, all right,
whoa dad?
Speaker 7 (03:04):
Are there letters in the logo of the team that
you're associated with?
Speaker 6 (03:11):
I think so? Yes?
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Okay, okay, for the son, has your dad won like
a major award, m VP, Offensive defense player, there, comeback
player of the Year, Walter Payton, one of one.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Of like those big distinctions.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
He has all pro pro pol No, all right, so
dad is an all pro Dad, I'll ask you, has
son been all pro?
Speaker 6 (03:39):
Yes? He has more than me. By the way, Oh
my gosh, we got to ballers out here.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
I just I just want to make it's it's not.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Are we talking to Marvin Harrison Marvin Harrison Junior?
Speaker 8 (03:51):
Absolutely not not even having it.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
I believe we're talking to Pats Tam and patso Tam.
The second is that true?
Speaker 9 (04:06):
He knew it?
Speaker 6 (04:06):
He knew it off Grip. I had the feel that
you knew though Obama one gave it away.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
It's tough because once you hit Alabama and like you
don't get you've had some fathers and sons, but not
a lot of all pro fathers and sons. Welcome both
of you to the show. Patser Tan and Patser Tan.
I want to talk about Pops. This is so cool.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Here here tell us about this.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Tell us about Pat your son and everything. How you've
been watching him with the past few years become this
incredible pro.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
What's it been like for you?
Speaker 10 (04:37):
Oh, man, it's been awesome just just being a dad.
Speaker 8 (04:40):
Obviously as a as a father, you know, you want
your kids to do better than what you did, and uh,
he's already exceeded you know what I've done in the league. Man,
it's been an awesome journey just to see you know,
it's hard work pay off, start from little league, throughout
high school, college, and now he's the best player in
the world at his position.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
It's been truly amazing. Man, that's absolutely awesome.
Speaker 7 (05:03):
And the fact that you, guys, that you were able
to do your thing in the league and now your
son's coming up behind you and doing even more.
Speaker 6 (05:09):
That's that's what we all hope for. As parents.
Speaker 7 (05:12):
But obviously your son is coming into a fifth year
in the league, and just give us an understanding of
how it makes you feel, as it pops to watch
your son do these things after spending all that time
with him, all the hard work. Tell us, how does
it feel to watch your son do his thing on
the field.
Speaker 8 (05:25):
What's crazy about it is he's already going to his
fifth year.
Speaker 6 (05:28):
Man, it goes by so fast.
Speaker 8 (05:30):
But I knew early on, you know, from his first
day with Denver that you know he was going to
be a guy like in his in.
Speaker 10 (05:37):
His rookie ye awesome, like teams teams.
Speaker 8 (05:41):
Were shying away from man and to see him coming
to his own to become.
Speaker 10 (05:44):
The player and the person in the community that he is.
Speaker 8 (05:48):
Man, it's it's truly a blessing in the holand you know,
to to watch his absolute rise.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
It's kind of awesome to see some of these these
pictures here, I mean, a young patch Orta just sort
of like love it up on dad. What's it like
for you because your dad did play eleven years in
the league. Is there a moment that sort of stands
out to you where you were watching in the locker
room or just like a fond memory.
Speaker 11 (06:12):
Yeah, should I remember when he was in Kansas City.
Speaker 6 (06:17):
I was a young pup.
Speaker 11 (06:18):
I had the opportunity to go in the field, be
a guest captain at coin.
Speaker 6 (06:22):
Toss with him.
Speaker 11 (06:24):
It was a it was a it was a crazy
feeling just to be out there, you know, see all
the guys get ready for the game and being in
that moment, it's pretty surreal. So that was a fond
memory that I didn't remember back then seeing him play.
Speaker 6 (06:40):
So well.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
This next question is for Pops. I live in the
South Florida area, and if you're in the South Florida,
you know about American Heritage. What was it like coaching
your son at that prestigious school, because you know, it's
the one thing to have that dynamic of father son
but then also coach and player. How was that dynamic
when you guys were there together at American Heritage?
Speaker 6 (07:03):
It was awesome? Man.
Speaker 8 (07:04):
And uh, you know, he he had been going to
that school since kender Garden, so he was kind of
brought up through the school. And you know, just to
get an opportunity to coach not only a herod but
but in the Little league, you know, I kind of
let my my coaches handle him, but you know, we
were do our thing on the side.
Speaker 10 (07:21):
But I was coach at school, but at home I
was dad man.
Speaker 8 (07:24):
So it was a fine balance between the two. And
just to see him growing to what he has become, man,
it's it's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Well, you should be very proud. This is a really
impressive son that you have. Obviously, I want to play
with the generations here. First, I want to ask Pat
Junior who's the guy in the league right now that
you would have liked to see Pops guard in his prime?
Speaker 3 (07:44):
And Pat Senior?
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Who is the guy you went against you'd like to
see Pat Junior have gone up against?
Speaker 11 (07:50):
Oh, shoot, that's a good question. I'll probably say Tyre.
Speaker 10 (08:00):
Hey, you know what's crazy about that man?
Speaker 8 (08:02):
Because I coached with the Dolphins for year and tyreeg
Will always talked trash about you know, how how we
we didn't play in this era that he'll burn us,
me and Sam Madison.
Speaker 6 (08:12):
But hey, that would be a free challenge. Man.
Speaker 8 (08:15):
Hey, with the small guys, you gotta put hands on man.
When we did in the league, Man, we pressed ninety
percent of time. So it's gonna be a tough challenge,
but definitely gonna be up to it.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
But one guy I would like.
Speaker 8 (08:27):
Pat, and you guys can attest to this. Man, Hey,
Randy mosk Oh, come on, different than I'll be.
Speaker 6 (08:38):
I have my clichel stuff for that one right now
wherever you are.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Yeah, yeah, So, Pat Junior, what are your when your
father did what you do for a living, he must
have a lot of opinions and guidance on it. When
you have a game where you play really well, or
maybe you don't have your best game, what are the
conversations like with Pops after that?
Speaker 11 (09:02):
Yeah, I think the commasationations are pretty real. You know,
he just give me his feedback and you know we
just talked ball whatsoever. He don't have too much to
say because you know we've been doing this, you know
for my whole life. You know, he watched me play,
you know, especially at this high level. You know, obviously
he's gonna have his partners that I'll learn from. You
(09:23):
know that I will get lessons from then. You know,
I'll use that for the next time on the field.
But you know, at the end of the day, you know,
it's all love with Pops being there, you know, I
mean it makes it so much easier.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
You know, the reason why we have you guys on
is because it's Father's Day. So for Pat Senior, is
there one of those Father's Days that that sort of
stand out with you know?
Speaker 6 (09:45):
Pat?
Speaker 2 (09:45):
The second just a I don't know, a gift or
or a special moment after a dinner that really resonates
for you.
Speaker 8 (09:51):
I wouldn't say anything in particular, but the twenty five
years that he's been on this urge that I had
the privilege of being, as far as the man, every
Father's Day special not only with him, but my two
daughters are parents and Parker who who will kill me
if I don't say anything about him?
Speaker 10 (10:06):
So yeah, it's special, man.
Speaker 8 (10:10):
But you know, these these these past few years with
us being a part, it's kind of nice to be
on this call together man, and and just just celebrating
Father's Day and just just the journey that I've had
as a father, you know, with him and my girls.
Speaker 6 (10:26):
Man, is it's truly special.
Speaker 8 (10:28):
It's not just one singular occasion that stands out, but
it's all of them.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
This next question is for Pops. When PS two one
Defensive Player of the Year, what was that moment like
for you as a father realizing your son was voted
the best defensive player in the league.
Speaker 8 (10:44):
You know what leading up to it, like it was,
it was a conversation like, man, if you win this
like it's you can't even put into words. And the
fact that he did it you know in my hometown.
I'm from New Orleans, so you know, to do it there. Man,
it was truly truly special. Nothing because cornerbacks they go
about their business.
Speaker 6 (11:04):
Doing that job. You only get recognized if you give
up a player or anything.
Speaker 8 (11:08):
For him to get that award amongst the giants in
the league, it firmly cemented him as is one of
the best, not only defensive players, but one of the
best player of the league. Man, to do it down
then down now week after week. Man, the consistency that
he plays with, it's remarkable just just to watch him work, man,
and just to commitment he has to this craft.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
P too.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
I want to go back to childhood. I want to
see when you were firmly cemented as faster than your dad.
Speaker 6 (11:36):
When could you beat him?
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Let's be real, when did it happen?
Speaker 11 (11:41):
Shoot, I'll say this though, I mean he'll tell you.
I'll say now I was like in middle school, I
felt I felt like I gained more and more speed
and I started running track. And when I got into
that track shape, I feel like, hey, we could we
can line it up one on one.
Speaker 6 (12:00):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 11 (12:01):
It could be a little forty y'all dash, I know
what possible. The police, you know, he was chilling, you
know what I mean, he wasn't gonna do anything. But
I felt like that transition from middle school to high school,
in that phase, I was like, that's when I had
him for sure.
Speaker 8 (12:14):
Hey, I answered that question for it was ever it
was whenever that that that last clip when I called
the pick against Philip River, for sure, I was running
with a corn quad and everything it was. It was
after that that's love.
Speaker 7 (12:32):
Hey, p two, this is for you, man, listen up
with being on this platform, but GMFB is a safe place.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
Man.
Speaker 7 (12:39):
With Father's Day being this Sunday, we want you to
have an opportunity to share with the country and share
with your dad one on one.
Speaker 6 (12:45):
What he means to you to especially with Father's Day
coming up.
Speaker 11 (12:48):
Man, on this platform, that's that's honestly huge, Pops.
Speaker 6 (12:54):
What you've done for me. You know, over the span
of my life.
Speaker 11 (12:57):
You know, it's been honestly a pleasure, you know, just
having you on my side. Uh, the lessons that I
learned from you, you being an instant role model not
only to me, but the people around you, and you know,
and to my sisters. You know, I give you all
the credit and props in the world, man, because without you,
I wouldn't be here at this position, because you know,
(13:19):
you gave me, you know, all the tools for me
to succeed at the next level. And I thank you
for doing that for me. And I love you for
that for sure. So appreciate you, man.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
I love that love.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
I love Listen, we want to thank Pat. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
guys you there's a lot of love here with a
lot of respect. Who want to thank Pat and Pat
and also Paris and Parker. Happy Father's Day to all
the certains, to all of you, guys, We love you
and thank you so much for joining us. Happy Fathers Day.
Speaker 6 (13:49):
Fathers, appreciate, Happy fathers. Happy Father's Day, y'all.
Speaker 12 (13:54):
Yeah, Good morning football, Welcome back to Good Morning Football.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
You know, a couple of minutes ago, we actually just
had Patter Tam Senior and his son Range Fitsve Player
of the Year Pat two on the show with us.
I just want to throw this out there because Father's
Day is Sunday. Make sure you call your dads. Because
one thing that resonated from that interview and what we
did yesterday with the Harbaugh family is how those moments
for the dads connect to get an opportunity to go
and talk to their kids.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
It really was meaningful. Both of them have made reference
to it. I say that as a PSA.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Meanwhile, we love whiteboards here on the show, so we
needed to get them ready for what's the word. I'm
going to throw up a topic and then my guys
are going to write down.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
One word to fill in the blank. All right, here
we go. First topic.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Each of the last five number one overall pick rookie
quarterbacks have started in week one. We can presume camp
Woard's going to add to that number. Here he is
yesterday with the media after his final mandatory mini camp practice.
Speaker 13 (15:04):
Plans for the next five to six weeks before you
report to cav and when you gather with your receivers
and some of the other quarterbacks and all the things,
just to kind of refresh everybody.
Speaker 6 (15:16):
Just work out standing playbook and the balls.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
You got some love it all right, cave Wards. Rookie season,
Isaiah will be what this rookie.
Speaker 6 (15:26):
Season's gonna be fire. I think he's gonna take care
of business.
Speaker 7 (15:29):
I think you put him in the backfield with Tony Poller,
you give him a weapon out there with Calvin Ridley,
and you give him some protection to go out there.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
And do his thing.
Speaker 10 (15:36):
It's gonna be straight, walk up, flock a flame fire.
Speaker 6 (15:39):
I like it.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
I went electrafying. Now, those are lightning balls. I know
I'm not the best artist out there. How to try
to write this really quick? It's not you know, charger boats.
These are electrifying boats. Because we talked about this KB,
and I know you're excited that for two days in
a row, round Good Morning Football, we're talking about the
number one pick because seems like nobody wants to talk
about this guy ever get arm talent. You see it
(16:04):
right there on the screen. He could put the ball
anywhere on the field. Tennessee Titan fans tighten up. Nations
should be excited about this guy.
Speaker 6 (16:12):
You heard what he just said.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
What his plans to do in the offseason were work
out and throw the piss out of the football. That's
what he is going to do. He's going to bring
that energy, that dog mentality, and a lot of times
you don't associate dog mentality with quarterbacks, but cam Ward
has it. So Electrifying is one word to describe cam
Ward this season.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
The artist.
Speaker 6 (16:34):
It's a better lighting boat.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
We've been doing a show for a day and a
half and we got the same idea. Look, I just
I had this already written down lightning. I heard my
lightning bolts on the bottom as well, just like your
same ones lightning bolts.
Speaker 6 (16:49):
Don't you love it?
Speaker 9 (16:51):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (16:51):
I just get ready to the next subject.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Get out gone at some point.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
It is incredible.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Last question, I got to tell you, you know, yesterday you
had the hammer and that was literally a work of art.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Oh yeah, well the hammer was better than the lightning bolt.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
It looked like perfect lightning bolts, just like my man cell,
your little being.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
This is what that reminds me of. All right, next topic.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Denver drafted quarterback Bo Nicks in the first round last year.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
The dude was absolutely impressive.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
He joined Hall of Famer John Elway from his nineteen
eighty three seasons. The only rookies in Broncos history to
lead their team in passing on their way obviously to
the postseason. Head coach Sean Payton on what improvements he's
seen in his second year.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Signal caller, less.
Speaker 14 (17:36):
Pause, less hesitation with the play call in the huddle,
less pause, less hesitation in the pocket. He's playing fast
and again protecting the ball. He's hard to sack. He
was hard to sack in college, so you're seeing him
play faster, more confidence.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Definitely positive news for all the fans in Denver, so
Bo Nicks and the Broncos and twenty two twenty five,
Isaiah is going to be.
Speaker 6 (18:06):
On the rise. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (18:08):
I don't have wone word for you, but they're on
the rise. These guys a running up and up. I
think they have a solid team. Coach Payton has instilled
exactly what his culture is, what his expectations are, and
bow Knicks has put them in a position where these
guys are going.
Speaker 6 (18:19):
To go out there and be a problem in their division.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
A lot of people may be surprised by my one
word answer the Throners and that's the crowd, exit out
the crowd. I believe this is the year the Denver
Broncos take over that AFC West. Now, I know the
Kansas City Chiefs have dominated, but just go back to
last year. They were one special team snapped full away
from beating them in Kansas City, and they beat them
(18:42):
in Week eight.
Speaker 15 (18:43):
Team.
Speaker 5 (18:43):
Yes, Kansas City didn't play their starters, but they essentially
should have been two to zero against this team. But
you look at this defense, number one in sacks last year,
top five defense.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
Oh they added John D. Barron.
Speaker 5 (18:54):
Oh, they added Drake Greenlaw telling no who funga? This
might be the best defense in football. So I think
that Denver Broncos will be the Throners this year.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Wow, and C West champion. Never Broncos. You stand on it.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
I'm standing on tintos down.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
Yeah, all right, listen. I love that. That's bold as hell.
You got that division that the Chargers are in the playoffs.
The Chiefs are the Chiefs the Raiders at Pete Carroll.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
So I love that.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
I take it back, and I do. I drew some
some bad air quotes.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
I think the Broncos will be good, and that's that's
not a great word sometimes, Okay, good are They're gonna
be great? I don't know, but I know this will
be a very good product in the team that is
going to be in the mix and matter. And I
feel like this is really a passive aggressive Oh they'll
be good, it is. I don't know yet if they'll
be great. They're one of the most I feel like
they have a lot in common with the Patriots this year,
(19:43):
as we expect this kind of jump from them, but
they don't have in common as they were already good
last year. So good, I don't know about great yet.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
By the way, Kyle, two things to unpack here.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Number one, you letting it sit for dues here with
his bold prediction, just letting that let.
Speaker 6 (19:58):
It marinates, let it marinates, and basking it.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
I just want to be clear.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Look, I'm a sub. I'm filling in for Jamie. But
when when you're given a directive, I try to follow
the rules. I don't want to be like that dude
who always got to be the rule follower. But I
happen to notice it's one word off the top with
an illustration as well on the rise. Way to break
that segment, all right, last one here giants out Russell Wilson,
(20:23):
the Rams, Matthew Stafford will throw in Aaron Rodgers and
the Steelers not to mention this quarterback, Joe Flacko, the
only quarterbacks on an active roster with at least one
hundred career wins.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
The forty year.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Old Flacco not a fan though, of posting dance videos.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
On social media.
Speaker 16 (20:42):
That is different too, this generation. The fact that people
want to get on their phones and show people the
most Like that's embarrassing. You're an adult, like being an adult.
Like it's just like I can't wrap my head around that.
And like I get it. Like you have kids, and
like you want to like you want to like have
fun with your kids, Like well, like have fun with
your kids in private. You know, That's what I think.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Look, if you could bust a move, he could bust
the right like show the skills. Maybe not for all,
all right, Joe Flacco and his comments aren't dancing, Isaiah?
Speaker 6 (21:11):
Are what geriatric? I like that?
Speaker 17 (21:15):
That's just that's Joe Flacco with a walker right there. Okay,
I'm forty years old. That's jeriatric. Listen, do you gotta
get with the time. You're on a team full of
young guns. This is the era I understand. I'm from
the same era that you're in.
Speaker 7 (21:27):
But listen, these guys don't connect with that vibe.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
You got to come meet the guys.
Speaker 7 (21:32):
Where they're at, because right now you sound like the
geriatric uncle at the barbecue the rollers.
Speaker 5 (21:37):
Good Man, not only do I have a word, I
actually have visuals. Can we put up the visual of
what there is? Grumpy? Oh man, grumpy? That is what
Joe Flacco is and shout out to Joe Flacco class
of eight, him and Kalan's Campbell. I believe in the
last two players from our class currently still in the NFL.
But to Isaiah's point, you gotta get with the times.
(21:59):
Your quarterback in this team. You got to be relatable
to some of these young guys. I'm not saying you
have to jump in a dance, but to say it's embarrassing.
Speaker 6 (22:06):
These are what these kids do.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
I'm surprised his kids haven't tried to ask him to
do a TikTok. Dead said as well, and I know
in that interview he said, you know, I used to
have Twitter.
Speaker 6 (22:13):
I don't have that anymore.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
I have Instagram, but I don't have TikTok. Get with
the times. I'm not saying you got to jump in
all the dances. But this is what some of your
younger teammates want to do. Stop being a grumpy old man.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Listen, you want to shout out Flacco class. Oh wait,
I look at that poster. Shout out and Margaret High
school class in nineteen forty seven, still doing.
Speaker 6 (22:36):
I love that Margaret.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
That woman was in movies with Elvis Presley. She's there
with Walthyle and matth Walter Matthau and Lemon and they
were saying stuff like pull your bottom lip over your
face and swallow and people just loved it.
Speaker 6 (22:48):
That movie was a big, big hit, all right.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
But speaking of big big hits, we always love Isaiah here.
And he broke the rules. Fine, but I'm going to
reset the rules. One word is run word, right, Yeah,
and that's what you said. What is the one word
Joe Flacco's comments on dancing are Isaiah?
Speaker 6 (23:02):
You like this? It's relatable.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Any other guy who's the stature can be so candid.
Speaker 6 (23:08):
There's my one word is.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Well done, well well well done. Sometimes you just got
to take it to another level.
Speaker 10 (23:19):
You have to.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
I am here for all of that pack care on
Good Morning Football is Steelers wrapped up mandatory mini camp
and for now preparing for training camp in about six
weeks in Latroll, Pennsylvania. But hey, jach Mike Tomlin says,
there's going to be one change to the schedule. The
start time practices will be held in the afternoons instead
of the mornings for one very specific reason.
Speaker 6 (23:39):
Wasn't hot enough last year.
Speaker 9 (23:42):
To be quite honest with you, he aids, in the
development of physical conditioning, it makes it a more stressful environment.
And that's what we go to camp for. We go
to camp to get better and if if it's a
little bit more miserable later in the day, man, that's
what we want.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
He's the best man.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Broncoes me while added a new running back to their
room and JK. Dobb and spent last seaars with the
chart just put up career highs in rushing yards. But
despite that, do you let him walk in free agency?
And that's something he was surprised about.
Speaker 15 (24:13):
I always have a chip on my shoulder, but yeah,
that was a little weird. But it's business, you know,
it's from my agent to handle. Good luck to them.
I'm a Bronco now, I gotta see me twice a year.
So that's my thoughts on it. I'm gonna have the
chip on my should up, of course, but I'm here.
I'm worried about winning more than just beating. I don't
want to just beat the charges. I want to go
(24:34):
on and i want to get a ring because I've
I've been in the playoffs every year i've played, so
I'm tired of losing in them. So that's my goal,
is to bring a super Bowl to the city and
just be a blessing to the community as well.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
A little bit of a flex there from JK. Hopefully
he's able to stay healthy this upcoming season.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Still be cub though, looking back at many camps across
the league and calling out some of our favorite moments.
Speaker 10 (24:54):
That's next.
Speaker 6 (25:11):
Can you help me Jerry these? Actually?
Speaker 18 (25:12):
But I'm just wow, you know what a guy justin Jefferson,
everybody he said, you got a question from I do?
Speaker 6 (25:23):
Actually, yeah, what's your question? One thing you learned to
be off season program this year?
Speaker 19 (25:27):
I learned a lot man, you know, just not really
being in the off season program that much for the
beginning of my career, you know, just having this as
my most time I've ever been in the off season.
You know, it was good, you know, just being able
to be around the guys, being around the quarterback, learn
from the guys and get better.
Speaker 6 (25:47):
You know. I want to take that as a guarantee
that your presence will continue. Yeah, we'll talk about that
later on next question.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
The responses the matter of who's fired off those questions.
That was Biking's coach, Kevin O'Connell putting on that reporter
hat and asking, of course, his star wide receiver Justin Jefferson,
and a couple of those pressing questions. Twenty seven teams
have now wrapped up their mandatory mini camp. So Kyle,
what's the most revealing mini camp storyline from this week?
Speaker 1 (26:14):
I like what everything's coming out of Dallas, how the
way it is right now. I've really really been impressed,
as I said, the vibe coming from the Dallas Cowboys.
We've really liked what we've seen from Brian Schttenheimer, the
new head coach, and the way he's comparing himselves to
the future, in the past and really relating to the players.
But being that it's two days away from Father's Day,
I just want to take a second to talk about
Brian's father, Marty Schottenheimer, and the time that they spent together.
(26:38):
If you watch the NFL in the eighties and the nineties,
Marty Schottenheimer was a fixture of that time, whether he
be and the coach of the Browns or the Chiefs.
And what was really cool is that father and son
were on the staff together multiple times, and there's video
of them later and with Washington and the coach.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Great great players and great.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
Teams all through his career. Marty passed away four years
ago at seventy seven years old, and look at him.
That's a screaming at a son on the sideline with
the headset on when they were in San Diego coaching
some of fantastic.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Players with the Chargers.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
But I personally have fantastic memories of watching Marty Schottenheimer
and so many different sidelines for so many different years.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
And there was a very poignant.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Moments that came out of Cowboys this week when their
new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, ahead of Father's Day, was
asked to reflect on his own father.
Speaker 6 (27:33):
I know he's proud.
Speaker 18 (27:34):
I miss him. I would tell him that I used
all the life lessons that he taught me, not just
about football, but about life and being a good man
and a good husband and a good father. And then
I think I'm doing okay for myself, but I know
he's proud. I miss him like crazy. Actually lean on
some of his friends now, you know, guys like Bill Kauer.
(27:56):
You know that he you know, coached with and but
Father's Day will be a special day, obviously, a father
of two amazing kids. And I'll talk to my mom
and I know he's looking down on me, but I
appreciate you making me get teared up, you know, up
here the last day in the camp.
Speaker 6 (28:13):
It's pretty poignant.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
It's really impressive to be put on the spot about
your late father ahead of Father's Day in front of
all the media, and to deliver it like that. I
am a Brian Schottenheimer fam and I think all of
us were fans of his father. And may he rest
in peace and Happy Father's Day to the entire Schottenheimer family.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Yeah, Kyle, well done on that one, especially in the
timing of sharing a story like that.
Speaker 5 (28:32):
Yeah, KB, that's an amazing story to me. Probably the
most revealing minikeap story has to be the Samas Stewart
situation with the Cincinnati Bengals. They take him in the
first round, and then wanted to set a presidents in
changing some of the language in his contract that hadn't
been changed for former first round picks of the Bengals,
where they could potentially void some of his you know,
(28:53):
guaranteed money if he's not on the roster. My thing is,
if he didn't believe in the kid, why don't you
take him in the first place. I know people will
dump on this kid because of what he said in
the media when he was doing his press conference about
how the Cincinnati Bengals want to win an argument instead
of getting this deal done, and then also that he
left mini camp. But I would ask people this question here,
(29:13):
how many people are showing up to a job that
you're not under contract for because right now he's not
under contract, and the only leverage he has is essentially
to walk away and say until you change it or
take the language out, I'm not signing my contract. This
was a team whose defense gave up a boatload of
points matter of fact, and losses. Their offense average over
(29:33):
twenty seven points a game. And now, not only do
you have issues with your first round pick, who's going
to be the potential starter at defensive nage Shamar Stewart.
You have issues with Trey Hendrickson, who is your best
defensive player. So to me, without a doubt, this has
been the biggest story of minicamp.
Speaker 7 (29:48):
Yeah, I completely agree with you. I'm actually going to
double down on you with that. So you talk about
the Shamar Stewart in the situation that they have put
him in right, him and his representation, him coming in
as the number seventeen overall pick.
Speaker 6 (29:59):
He is the guy.
Speaker 7 (30:00):
All he wants to do is be slotted. You don't
have to negotiate. There's no numbers that you have to
talk about. All you have to do is put them
paper out there in front of me.
Speaker 6 (30:06):
I sign it.
Speaker 7 (30:07):
Aha, unless you're the Cincinnati Bengals, you try to put
something in there that gives you an out. Right, Why
do you need an out when somebody has done it
but they're supposed to do in college and you drafted them.
All he wants is a fair opportunity that everybody else
has received. They're not allowing for that to happen. And
I feel as if they have put themselves in a
predicament because they have allocated over thirty three percent of
their salary cap this year to three players Joe Burrow,
(30:30):
Higgins and Jamar Chase.
Speaker 6 (30:31):
You have fifty three guys on a roster.
Speaker 7 (30:33):
Fifty of those guys are now sitting there waiting for
the other seventy seven percent or sixty says seven percent,
and these guys are now waiting around.
Speaker 6 (30:41):
Henderson deserves his money still, were deserves to have.
Speaker 7 (30:44):
Opportunity to step on the field just because your books
are messed up. Don't put the pressure on these guys
and put them in a bad situation.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
You know, it's really good in great context when you
talk about the salary cap situation, because I think for
all of us, and we were actually doing it on Monday,
I'm like, just pay people out of Kyle, you actually
made reference to it.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
You can't pay everyone, and.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Sometimes you got to just think about how you're allocating
some of that cash. Had some serious stories this week,
and we also of course get fun moments for you.
What's the most fun moment that you've seen from Mini
camp this week?
Speaker 1 (31:11):
So the Chiefs did a really funny thing. They you
see this at the end of Mini camphor It's like
offensive lineman catching passes and coaches throwing and that's all great.
What the Chiefs did, and I think we have the
video is they had their wide receivers try to roll
out and throw passes. Fine, but they competed against Patrick
Mahomes who had to throw lefty, and I think Patrick
(31:33):
Mahomes kind of held up lefty versus the wide receiver's
writing all right, so that's rice and a little off
target there. He's gonna do the same rollout pass. Here
goes Halloway Brown, he's been around. That's a nice throw.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
We got to coach there getting it all right?
Speaker 1 (31:48):
And then I fig you're worthy of going into his
second last four? Also not bad, but here comes the
go yes, So it bets the question if we had
a maybe former professional quarterback, how would he stand up
throwing with his offhand versus YouTube out on.
Speaker 6 (32:07):
The field not to we find up.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Yeah, not bad.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
By the way, I'm also thinking about Patrick Mahomes and
just his ability as an athlete. You know the other
day we talked about Jackson Dart playings and baseball and
another baseball guys.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Yeah, and Patrick Mahomes all are you ready to sling here?
Speaker 6 (32:20):
So we're doing this thing.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Yeah, we're gonna I'm right handed.
Speaker 6 (32:23):
They want me to throw a left hand. They're gonna
see if they can throw it the right hand. I
have a showdown. I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Okay, okay, I'll take you. Guys, are going this way.
Speaker 7 (32:31):
We're going this way. All right, we're gonna step back here. Okay,
what we have here, We're gonna back all the way up.
If we're going we go up here. This is a
forty five yard okay, yeah, you're going to jam.
Speaker 6 (32:40):
You need to get closer to him.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
No, I know we were about to have a Joel
Milton moment where you guys just tell me keep going,
keep going.
Speaker 6 (32:46):
Yeah, let's see what you got. Let's see what you
got right hand. You're right handed, right? Yeah? Oh that
was that was cute.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
That was that was That's cute that that's hilarious.
Speaker 6 (32:52):
All right, so let's see what the guy left.
Speaker 7 (32:54):
That was his right hand. Okay, this is my left hand.
Let's see what we got here. I'm actually never done this.
I don't think.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
Yeah, that actually is is not bad. I just had
the r P shot. I think I got you can
roll that. I kind of want to get it just right.
Speaker 6 (33:07):
All right.
Speaker 7 (33:08):
Now you gotta back up, Yeah, we gotta back up. Yeah,
we're on the right. Now we're on the forty five
yard line. Yeah, miss, currently on the thirty five yard line.
So we got a twenty yard shot. Here, let's se
what you got. Oh you want to roll out with it?
Speaker 6 (33:18):
Oh okay, here we go. So that was your that
was your right.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
I'm gonna go ahead, come over, roll out with it's
about here. See if I got the Oh okay, it's
pretty good.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
That's so impressing left hand.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
I could not do that left handed. You see it?
All right? What you guy? You am for you?
Speaker 3 (33:35):
All right, I'll say I got some o the gun.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
Look let me let me let me roll out to now,
let me roll roll to the right. Old pressure evade
it all platform? Oh okay, on platform.
Speaker 6 (33:48):
Let's go. You almost ring? You want sit here? Random intoday? Baby?
All right?
Speaker 7 (33:54):
Kate be there for you? All right, Kate be this
was for you. I'm not gonna use my left hand.
I'm gonna use my right hand. But I'm gonna pull
up Patrick mahomes s type play right.
Speaker 5 (34:02):
Okay, I can't see it, so pressing right, So coming prespressa.
Speaker 6 (34:05):
Here we go. He's on them. Oh why the back
perfer throw?
Speaker 1 (34:10):
Oh my goodness, just like that.
Speaker 6 (34:15):
That's a big time man.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
That's a big time was. That's a big time that was.
That was clear to get your attention, you know.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
At the end of the workout, sometimes they'll say, all right,
all right, everybody, one last throw. I'm just gonna chuck
this thing as far as I can. I want to
see you throw it left handed, as far as you can.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
You got you get, throw it over the fence and over.
I'm sorry, ever.
Speaker 6 (34:36):
Somebody got there, do it? Boss man? I can't say
for us. He doesn't know who I am.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
That's a random person in the back this.
Speaker 6 (34:44):
Would you ready for this? Oh? Yeah, he's ready? Is
my left hand? Now, don't judge me. Did he get there?
Just didn't make it. That's embarrassing. That didn't make it.
You know what. I deserve a chance to run that
back of market. We go.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
Yes, you definitely got that.
Speaker 6 (35:02):
I need a different ball. I need a different ball.
Who's that over there across street?
Speaker 3 (35:05):
Right there?
Speaker 6 (35:05):
My man's not right there? My man say right there,
right there.
Speaker 7 (35:09):
We're gonna throw you the ball about here, about seventy
yards away, right now, right here.
Speaker 6 (35:13):
You coffee down. No, it's okay. Here we go.
Speaker 7 (35:16):
I'm hitting to do with the beard. Dude, you are ready,
let's get it. You got it, you catch it, you
catch it. There we go, Here we go away at least.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
There we go.
Speaker 9 (35:30):
That was that was act.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
That was well. That was well played. You asked for
a Kyle, that was he.
Speaker 6 (35:35):
It was a good throw. Here we go.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Yeah, you got another.
Speaker 7 (35:37):
All right, we got boy, heyby, I gave you one
crazy throw. This this is the last one. Okay, this
last one.
Speaker 6 (35:41):
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
You staying there, staying there?
Speaker 6 (35:44):
Oh brown, Oh.
Speaker 7 (35:47):
No, back in the day, standing on the on the
fifty yard line and throw it through the goal.
Speaker 6 (35:52):
Pust Now I'm forty now, so we're going to see.
Here we go. You ready, my man? Here we go.
Oh did we get there? I got there?
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (36:01):
I got there? You got there? You don't take the
dude now too.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
I had a little bit of an accident.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
He's gonna be he's in the ice getting uh, getting
that cold tub and rocking ball.
Speaker 6 (36:18):
Isaiah.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
When you hit the knees, that was amazing. And by
the way, guys, do we know who these people?
Speaker 2 (36:26):
Okay, okay, they're throwing the ball back, so that would
these are random random folks outside of Sofi steam.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
They are just walking by.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
I mean they're Englewood crackheads made.
Speaker 16 (36:37):
We don't know.
Speaker 7 (36:42):
People are So how far do you think that you
could throw the ball if you were here a studio
with us.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
I mean at this point, I mid forties, I can
throw it pretty well. I was the backup quarterback on
the freshman A team, not the B team. I think
I got I could throw an NFL football probably like
fifty five yards, okay, cheap, I got nothing.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
I could probably get it sixty sixty five.
Speaker 6 (37:05):
So you one one of them a little bit.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Yeah, if you didn't have like the multiple quarter zone
shots in the p r P in the last two months.
Speaker 6 (37:14):
Yards.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Yeah, I'm just happy that it's it's only slightly burning
this elbow on a twenty yard throw.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
So but I kind of felt bad because I was ready.
You know, you guys know you're.
Speaker 6 (37:25):
Having all right now, get to put you on the list.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
This was this was impressive by day like you still
have you still got the juice?
Speaker 5 (37:32):
Oh behind the bag then drags flag.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
You're on Good Morning Football.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
We just had a throwing expedition from when Isaiah standback,
who by the way, was was working it out.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
I had asked you in the break.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
You know, nowadays with with all the you know, the
steph curries of the world. On the basketball side, everyone's
doing these these like trick shots.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Did you have like that arsenal on the football side?
Speaker 6 (37:59):
You know what?
Speaker 7 (37:59):
I had them, I just never use them. I was
never bold enough to pull it off. That was my
favorite though back. Yeah, because we used to start just
like that. We used to start quarterback warm ups from
the knee, one knee that really, yeah, you will open
up the heads and we're working old bleaks and all
that stuff.
Speaker 6 (38:13):
So I used to just climb around. I said, let
me see how far I can throw this thing.
Speaker 7 (38:16):
Actually, Dennis Dixon, okay, monny story, okay, okay, he was
an up and coming guy coming into college and him
and his family took a visit to the University of Washington.
We were out there running seven on seven when him
and his visit his family came down the tunnel and
I saw him and I knew who he was, and.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
I said, he's coming from my spot. So I got
on my knees on the fifty yard line.
Speaker 5 (38:36):
Throw it through the gold That's a great story, falling
through the gold post.
Speaker 7 (38:39):
And I saw him and his family and say yep,
all right, we're gonna go down the way.
Speaker 5 (38:44):
He's like, yeah, you don't want to come here. I
think the greatest thing about some of those throws was
the edited by centers that were willing to, you know,
come in and be a part of them. So, I
know Kyle talked about it a little bit, but we're
really trying to hunt guys down. There was the one
guy who had a coffee in his hand. He was
just like, no, I'm busy, I gotta get I gotta
get to work.
Speaker 6 (39:00):
He refused to stop.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
But this one right away, this guy actually caught this,
like he.
Speaker 5 (39:05):
Called this mass so and they gave the football back.
Speaker 6 (39:07):
So I thought that was really dope. Shout out to
the SOFI crew was out there what they're doing, But
shout out to do Kyle.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
By the way, there was I think a twisted ankle
out in the parking lot from one of our wide receivers,
just drawing that out there.
Speaker 6 (39:18):
It was off the property.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
Yes, so we're not responsible to go. We're injuries, Kyle.
You know, we got Father's Day coming up on Sunday.
One of these moments for you that you're kind of
thinking about No.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
I enjoy Father's Day in a very casual way. And
my wife said, what do you want to do for
Father's Day? And I say, I don't know. I want
to eat the food I like, maybe drink a little
be outside and be with you guys.
Speaker 6 (39:38):
That's it, and that's it every.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Single year for the rest of my life. Happy Father's
Day to my dad, who watches the show every single morning,
is watching right now. Bob Brandt, former professional football player.
I don't talk about it much, but he was a
good football player himself. And I'll see you in a
few days, Dad, and I love you.
Speaker 6 (39:54):
That's absolutely awesome.
Speaker 5 (39:55):
Yeah, I want to give us out to my dad,
just like Kyle d I know he's watching the show.
This is my hero, one of my biggest supporters. I
call him Superman because he one of the most patient
man I know in living.
Speaker 6 (40:07):
So I know he's not watching the show. Love you, Dad.
Speaker 5 (40:09):
Can't wait to get back to Florida. We always do
our father son little fishing thing on Saturday, the day
before Father's Day and then we go out to Brunt
So excited for that tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (40:18):
That's awesome.
Speaker 7 (40:18):
Well for myself, my dad and myself are going to
have one of our first actual Father's Days together.
Speaker 6 (40:23):
Okay, nice, We get.
Speaker 7 (40:25):
To put all three generations, my son, myself, and my
dad together. He just retired and moved down to my
part over there in Tahas, So this will be my
first time with my father probably in probably twenty five
thirty years.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
You have me beat on this one because on Sunday,
I am jacked up. My parents are coming out to
Los Angeles.
Speaker 6 (40:40):
Love it.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
First time I've gotten to hang out with my dad
on Father's Day, I think in over ten years. I
think it might be twelve years for me in the
state of California. So I am super excited and super
thankful for all the sacrifices. My dad actually is from
Hong Kong, came over when he was sixteen, didn't speak English.
I'm not the biggest sports fan, but listened to every
single one of my broadcasts when I was in college
on the radio side, watches the shows as well. To
(41:04):
say that I am super excited for Sunday and Father's
Day is an absolute understandment and I hope all the
dads out there have a great Father's Day.
