Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
There's a lot of news in the world these days,
but we are focused on one topic only in the NFL.
It's Aaron Rodgers and the fact that he is going
to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jane Slater here, Tamara Brown, Madeline
Burke as well. You got the Giants cover, the Patriots covered,
and the Dallas Cowboys, plus all of the NFL Stacy
Jill's joining us this hour, a ton of guests.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
We got to get to a GMFP on a Friday.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
Let's go good football.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
That's right, it's GMFP on a Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Some people like to lean into the proverbial Friday news dump.
Well this happened to us on a Thursday. Okay, Tamara Brown,
Madelin Burke holding it down in our New York studio.
Jane Slater here with us in LA. I'm supposed to
call this a special episode of GMFP. And that's because
we know where Aaron Rodgers is going to play football
next season. He's going to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's a
one year deal. It sounds like Ian Rappaport. We're going
(01:12):
to welcome you in to We like to call it
setting the table with the news from around the league.
We start and finish today with the fact that, oh
my gosh, it actually says mister Rogers is going to
play in a new neighborhood.
Speaker 5 (01:23):
Yes, the story of the offseason has now reached a
conclusion and a point where feels like we all felt
it would go. Aaron Rodgers is expected to join the
Pittsburgh Steelers, the story that we've been following all off season,
for the last several weeks, last several months, last several forever,
it has been the entire offseason. I'm wondering, is Aaron
(01:44):
Rodgers going to retire? Is he waiting for the Vikings?
Is there some mystery team or is it just the
Pittsburgh Steelers, which always made the most sense, The team
that pursued him, the Tea, the only team he visited,
the team that was patient.
Speaker 6 (01:57):
General manager Omar.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
Hanneck coach Mike Tomlin said several times that they are
going to respect Aaron Rodgers decision making and his process
for doing so. Rodgers, dealing with some personal situations, wanted
to stay away.
Speaker 6 (02:09):
From the field during the spring. Not a big spring.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
Ota guys, anyway, does always seemed like the most logical
solution for Aaron Rodgers to do what he does during
the spring, get with the Steelers before mandatory mini camp
sign get the playbook, maybe meet with reporters, will see
if that ends up happening next week, but basically wrap
it all up before everyone goes away for the summer.
Then business as usual in Latroll where Aaron Rodgers is
(02:33):
going to be the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. You
mentioned the one year deal, still no firm and final
financial terms. Aaron Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee show
he would play for just ten million dollars.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
That's what he told teams.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Actually would expect the base to be probably somewhere around there,
with some incentives to get a little higher. It is
not going to be a big money deal. That is
not what it is about. It is about finishing Rodgers'
career right for the Pittsburgh Steelers, going deeper into the playoffs.
All sides hope that is now the case with Rodgers
officially landing in Pittsburgh right sheet.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
We appreciate that so much.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
If you look back at the Aaron Rodgers timeline and career.
There's a ton of stops. You could close your eyes
and just pick a date and there's something fascinating that
happened with this quarterback. But really, when this all began
for us an off season conversation was in the off
season of twenty twenty three, when it was retirement or
move on from Green Bay. He goes to the Jets,
he leaves the Jets. Now he's in Pittsburgh. With that,
we are now going to be joined by Stacy Dales,
(03:27):
one of our senior national reporters for THEL the NFL
Network and specifically good warning to you, Stacy. Stacey and
I were sitting in a room in the countryside of
the UK last fall listening to Aaron Rodgers wax poetic
about why this thing with the.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
New York Jets should work.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Unfortunately for the Jets and specifically Robert Sala, their head coach,
got fired a couple days after the game that Stacey
and I were on the sideline on Stacy, how much
does your mind go to the impact that the Jets
time for Rogers had on his career and why he
was drawn to go play in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 7 (03:58):
What an awesome tea up, great to be with you
TGIF Jane, and hello to you ladies and our viewer.
Speaker 8 (04:05):
Really good to be with you.
Speaker 7 (04:07):
I would tell you my mind went like laser focus
back to that moment we shared with Aaron Rodgers in London.
Speaker 8 (04:13):
I'm glad you brought it up, because it was almost this.
Speaker 7 (04:15):
Remember we've got in the van and we're headed back
every hour long commute, Jamie, We're headed back to the
hotel after those hours long production meetings with Robert Sala
and Sauce Gardner and Aaron Rodgers and so on and
so forth.
Speaker 8 (04:28):
And it was almost this ominous feeling.
Speaker 7 (04:30):
And then the game happens and they get buried essentially
by the Vikings, and Monday what happens.
Speaker 8 (04:36):
Robert Sala gets fired and you.
Speaker 7 (04:39):
Just got this sense of dysfunctionality with the Jets. And
that's really what happened for a couple of years with Aaron.
Obviously the Achilles injury was an issue. However, he bounced back,
he returned, he had to overcome that mental aspect of
coming back from the injury, and then things just didn't parlay.
Speaker 8 (04:55):
Now I would say this.
Speaker 7 (04:55):
I know Jane has touched on this throughout the show,
but I think this is really the best case scenario
for Rogers. I think it's the best case scenario for
the Pittsburgh Steelers. I mean, were they going to go
with Mason Rudolph to start the season. And I think
it is because of the environment. Environment is critical for Rogers.
Having covered him for well over a decade, he was
(05:16):
very Jane said, insulated in Green Bay. That's a good thing.
We use that word in a real positive way. He
likes privacy, he likes seclusion. Outside of his media duties
in recent years, he's all about the locker room. He's
always professed that the best teams are led by the players.
Player led locker rooms are the best locker rooms. And
I think after much contemplation, those were governing factors and
(05:39):
forces for him and making this decision. And why wouldn't
you want to go play with Mike Tomlin. Aaron Rodgers
is a winner, Mike Tomlin is a winner. The Pittsburgh
Steelers are a functional, healthy organization.
Speaker 8 (05:50):
And so this makes success.
Speaker 7 (05:51):
Now the question is can they create synergy that's the
important part, and make it a magical season for a year.
Speaker 9 (05:58):
How different will this offense look when you consider the
affinity that Aaron Rodgers has with the West Coast offense
compared to how they did it maschematically last year with
Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. You talked about this new environment.
They want to win games. Mike Talman's a winner, Aaron
Rodgers is a winner. How can they build that offense.
Speaker 10 (06:15):
To be successful?
Speaker 7 (06:17):
Tam Or, I think it's a really good question. I
think when I mentioned synergy, what is synergy? It is
working together to create something that is greater than oneself,
or create something that only one person could accomplish. And
Aristotle said the whole is greater than the sum of
its parts. This is so true in the National Football League.
And so for me, as Aaron Rodgers walks into this
(06:39):
sort of generation of the West Coast offense with offensive
coordinator Arthur Smith, it's going to be all about how
can they master that synergy? What pieces is he going
to be working with, and how can they make it
open in terms of dialogue on both sides. When we
know a couple things about Arthur Smith the offensive coordinator, right,
he loves to run the football. He did it in Tennessee.
(07:01):
He eventually became the offensive coordinator there. He did it
in Atlanta the head coach. He did it with Nause
last year in Pittsburgh. I mean, they ran the ball
nearly fifty percent of the time with either Russell Wilson
or Justin Fields, who are in many respects different quarterbacks.
And so that's going to be really critical with this
running back group that Aaron Rodgers inherits. The offensive line
(07:23):
has to play better than it did last year, and
that's where synergy becomes a big factor. Zach Frazier in
the middle, I think is going to be one of
the most promising centers that we'll see over many years
in the NFL. Grated out as one of the best
per PFF last year at that position.
Speaker 8 (07:39):
And then these receivers.
Speaker 7 (07:40):
I mean, we've talked about DK Metcalf and you know,
we'll talk about some of the veterans like Robert Woods.
We'll see where Kelvin Austin can kind of come into
his own in the NFL. Cordero Patterson's on this roster, Okay,
so there are going to be some pieces pat Fryarmouth,
We'll see what else they decide to add.
Speaker 8 (07:58):
But marrying the run game, which will be.
Speaker 7 (08:01):
Essential to Aaron Rodgers' success, because he is forty one,
and Jamie, you know this.
Speaker 8 (08:06):
We sat in those meetings. He said, when you turn.
Speaker 7 (08:09):
Forty, it is a daily priority to make sure you're
taking care of your treatment, your body work. He changed
his diet when he turned forty. All of these things
are critical. I think his mind is really sharp. I
think he's going to marry well with Arthur Smith. But
making sure that run game exists and then being able
to get those receivers to play on time. There was
(08:31):
a lot of criticism about Rogers bringing in all of
his guys to the Jets. Well, guess what when you
bring in Devonte Adams and he ends up being your
top target over the course of ten to eleven games
and he's almost to nine hundred yards with Aaron Rodgers.
It's because of his route complexities and timing with Rogers,
and that's what they're going to have to develop in
this West Coast scheme.
Speaker 11 (08:50):
I love talking football with two people at our network,
and that's you and Brian Baldinger because of the passion
that you bring when we talk about some of these things,
and full disclosure, you and I were on the phone
last night talking about it because we get so geeked
out about some of this stuff been. You know, one
of the things that I've noticed in covering this league,
you know, the last ten seasons, is there are so
(09:10):
many narratives that catch on in this league. And I
find in talking with people who know Aaron Rodgers, his
teammates love playing with him. Now, it's obviously his relationship
with the media is very, very different. But as someone
who's played at the highest levels, I mean, you were
drafted third overall by the Washington Mystics, I mean, you
played on an Olympic team.
Speaker 10 (09:30):
What is it.
Speaker 11 (09:30):
About Aaron Rodgers as a teammate that gets people to
buy in? What are some of those intangibles that we
don't talk enough about, both in your interactions.
Speaker 10 (09:40):
With him and talking to his teammates over the erdales.
Speaker 7 (09:43):
Yeah, such a great question. I would liken it to this, Jane.
When it comes to football, you get some of these
players who are going to be first ballot Hall of
Fame quarterbacks or first ballot Hall of Fame whatever, they
may be defensive ends, superstars right over the course.
Speaker 8 (09:58):
Of time, and he's going to be one of them.
He's a four time MVP.
Speaker 7 (10:01):
I would say Aaron Rodgers is a genius when it
comes to football.
Speaker 8 (10:06):
It's plain and simple.
Speaker 7 (10:07):
I've had conversations over the years with his former coordinators.
I mean, never forget standing in the tunnel at Lambeau
talking to Nate Hackett, Nathaniel Hackett, who then was the
offensive coordinator under Matt Laflelora, and he said he had
to find ways comes in with a sheet every day
with here are plays for the week, and find something
to put on the sheet. He would tell me he
(10:27):
would always put some unique little thing to test Aaron's
IQ because he was craving more. Aaron makes the players
around him, besides winning, because winning cures everything, he makes
the players around him think differently about the game, think
about the details.
Speaker 8 (10:42):
He's really become a coach on the field.
Speaker 7 (10:44):
Now it all's going to go back to you, guys.
Can he go in in a year at forty one
years old and do this thing? That's where the most
special teams. You guys know this when you go to
the Super Bowl and we've covered all these teams at
the Super Bowl every year. We just had the Philadelphia
Eagles with you, Jane this past season. There's a special
synergy with these teams. It's hard to create. Tom Brady
(11:05):
went to the box and did it, and they figured
out how to tool everything, and Rogers is going to have
to do it with Mike Tomlin. And I think part
of the allure is some of the veteran leadership.
Speaker 8 (11:14):
When you have TJ.
Speaker 7 (11:15):
Watt on your roster on the other side of the ball,
when you have Cam Hayward on the other side of
the football, Now you've got a player led locker room,
which is critical, and I think that was probably a
big part for Aaron Rodgers why he decided to do this.
And then some of the rookies they're adding, I mean,
Derek Harmon, this defensive line is going to be no
joke on the other side of the football under Mike Tomlin,
Tarrell Austin. So I think it's a really good situation
(11:37):
for Rogers right now, but you have to be cautiously optimistic.
Speaker 12 (11:41):
Stacy, we haven't actually talked about this yet, But why
the Steelers and why this division? I mean, you look
at the makeup of the AFC North. Most players in
their final chapters of their careers aren't actively seeking.
Speaker 10 (11:53):
A division this competitive.
Speaker 8 (11:55):
I love this, Madeline.
Speaker 7 (11:56):
I love this because you think about it like they
play outdoors. Right, these are the two most bruising divisions
in football. You think about where he came from, NFC North,
you know, Lambeau and then you got to play at
Soldier Field and you've, yeah, you got a couple indoors there.
But you're talking about Cleveland and Cincinnati and Baltimore and
all the quarterback play and of course Pittsburgh all these
(12:18):
outside arenas, if you will, And I think for Rogers
that that doesn't bother him a bet. He loves playing
in the cold weather. In fact, he excels in it.
He relishes those challenges. He'll relish this challenge. Everybody's saying
he can't play anymore.
Speaker 8 (12:30):
Well, guess what.
Speaker 10 (12:31):
Ever, since he came out of cal and was.
Speaker 7 (12:34):
Drafted to the National Football he's had a chip on
his shoulder. But again, what is the dynamic in the
locker room? I think Madeline to go back to the question,
I mean, why Pittsburgh listen sitting in it?
Speaker 8 (12:47):
Just a production.
Speaker 7 (12:47):
Meeting with Russell Wilson last season in late December, he
said the first phone call that he got was Mike Tomlin,
and after he heard about Tomlin's.
Speaker 8 (12:56):
Vision and all the things that Tomlin loves.
Speaker 7 (12:59):
About football, and then the energy and guys, you know,
spend time around Mike Tomlin and you're just you want
to go.
Speaker 8 (13:04):
I'll go clean the floors for you.
Speaker 7 (13:05):
Tom's like, that's how special it is there.
Speaker 8 (13:09):
With Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 7 (13:10):
Ask any player who's played for him, And I remember
Russell Wilson saying in that production meeting, it's like a
dream come true. He's had very few head coaches and
now he's going to go play for Tomlin.
Speaker 8 (13:20):
And he said that the joy of football came back
to him.
Speaker 7 (13:23):
I think Rogers is walking into a similar situation. I
think Arthur Smith, the offensive coordinator, and him are going
to get along quite well. But again, you know, I
saw the last segment as you guys ended the last hour,
some trigger words like cautiously optimistic always in the NFL
to me. And then which teams can have the best
synergy in chemistry and that's going to be critical as
he joins them next week.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Stacy excellent as always. I mean, we could be doing
this with you, but we're going like this.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
With the Steelers. Are they going up? Are they going down?
Speaker 10 (13:51):
With Rogers?
Speaker 2 (13:52):
And which way are they going we don't even know.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
All right, Stacey Dales, thank you so much. We wish
you well.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
We'll talk to you a little bit as we inspect
what this looks like now, not only for Aaron Rodgers,
but how this will impact the Steelers. As we mentioned,
you know, Miles Garrett, Roquan Smith, maybe Trey Hendrickson. They
are licking their chops at any quarterback. But now if
they can sack a Hall of Famer and a Super
Bowl winner, it makes it even sweeter.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
The Steelers schedule.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
It came out of course in mid May with the
rest of them. Samara, do you have one a game
that stands out now to you that now that you
know who the quarterback is, it just looks a little
bit sweeter in the matchup.
Speaker 9 (14:24):
Jamie week one versus the Jets as a competitor, and
we heard Stacy Dale say that Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 10 (14:32):
Is a winner. Aaron Rodgerson as is a winner.
Speaker 9 (14:34):
You want to look good against your former team. I mean,
look at Gino Smith when he played against the Jets
of December twenty twenty four, he got the last laugh.
Speaker 10 (14:42):
And you look at aj Brown when he played.
Speaker 9 (14:44):
The Titans he beat them two touchdowns one hundred and
nineteen yards.
Speaker 13 (14:49):
That's going to be Aaron.
Speaker 9 (14:50):
Rodgers when he goes up against his former team, especially
with how things went down.
Speaker 10 (14:54):
It was the disaster. It didn't go out as planned.
Speaker 9 (14:56):
Now he's with the Steelers, a new team, a new environment.
I'm expecting that one to be a movie.
Speaker 13 (15:02):
Sign me up.
Speaker 11 (15:03):
You know, I love that you because it is the
obvious one, right sure, But for me, and what's not
as obvious that people are going to be bringing up
as to why they're watching that one is for me,
this is the case of which Aaron, are you on
the team of You've got Aaron Glenn who had Aaron
Rodgers camp all the way out to New York just
to tell him, yeah, you're not here anymore.
Speaker 6 (15:24):
Buddy, You're out the door.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Aaron didn't love it.
Speaker 14 (15:26):
Went on the Pat McAfee show said as much. Did
the fans love what Aaron Glenn did? Or are they
going to find themselves missing Aaron Rodgers knowing that he.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Was the extra piece.
Speaker 10 (15:39):
That was going to get them over the hump.
Speaker 11 (15:40):
And then, oh, by the way, their quarterback now is
justin fields.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
It is It almost is too perfect.
Speaker 11 (15:47):
You know, A couple of years ago when they said
the NFL scriptwriters, I sort of joked about it. But
you know, like Aaron Rodgers, sometimes I buy into some
of these conspiracy theories, and this one's a fun one
for me.
Speaker 12 (15:57):
Listen, I love the narrative of facing your old team, right,
you want to bring your best when you're coming up
against your ex. But I'm going a different direction with
that one, and I'm building my own graphics. Over here
on the whiteboards are been doodling. We've ate Sunday Night
Football Steelers Packers.
Speaker 10 (16:13):
Yes, this is a team.
Speaker 12 (16:15):
That Aaron Rodgers started his career with, played a very
long time with.
Speaker 10 (16:18):
But also a win against.
Speaker 12 (16:22):
The Packers on Sunday Night football at home in Week
eight would be the thirty second team that Aaron Rodgers
beats in his NFL career, so he could become only
the fifth quarterback in NFL history to beat all thirty
two teams in the National Football League. Now, Brett Favre
was the first to do it. He completed that task
(16:43):
in two thousand and nine. That, of course, the quarterback
Rogers started his career sitting behind for three years. We've
seen Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, do it is
Rogers going to be the latest to add himself to
the list and beat all thirty two teams.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
That's what I'm watching, all right, guys.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
As you mentioned the Steelers, they have to go through
the NFC North Gauntlet. I hope to pack a passport
stamp it because Rogers has to have another international experience
this year. The Steelers are going to play the Vikings
in Dublin. Look at that game as well. That's week four.
We're not done though. Break it down Rogers' decision to
join the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's an international experience if you're
looking at that quarterback and that head coach. Welcome to Ireland, everybody.
(17:19):
Welcome to a Friday on GMFB. We have a tack
of a guest list coming up on this show in
the next hour. We've got Grammy winners, We've got social
media sensations, we have an original song I believe coming
up on the show, and of course we will finish
the hour. Don't freak out, everybody. We'll put a final
bow on Aaron Rodgers. Okay, don't worry, but that lady
(17:40):
with her feet on the desk and her guitar finally tuned.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
Melissa Efron is coming up.
Speaker 13 (17:55):
Good morning football.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
I'm going to stare at this picture of my wife
the way that Jason stared at Dan Campbell, because because
I love this woman. She's watching right now, she's with
my daughter. My wife has completely changed our life with
everything she's done, and she's a wonderful person and even
better mom.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
You know the journey, Jamie.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Of becoming a mom and going through that, Ali, you
deserve the world, of course.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
My wife is my QB.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
One nice in my life and on the field.
Speaker 6 (18:25):
Now, so excited.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
About this list.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
It's a great lest Isaac, But you know what a
god I got us your wife at the table instead,
Isaac Groschelze here sometimes at Alison.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Coots here as well. What's up, Allison?
Speaker 15 (18:35):
Happy to be here? This is I like these studios. Yes,
like this could be my locker room.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yes, take your husband's chair, it's all good.
Speaker 10 (18:41):
Hey, I'm comfortable.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Well it should be your locker room.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Your podcast, Sunday Sports Club is very popular and you
you're talking the game, you're talking life as well.
Speaker 10 (18:51):
Yeah, we get into the nitty gritty.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Great, we love that and that's what we like to
do here. So we know that you are QB one
for your husband in life on the field, off the field.
The Steelers have a new QB one. You swim in
the football world with Roger, can you? I mean you
follow the headlines like this.
Speaker 15 (19:07):
I'm not surprised he's one of the Steelers at all. Okay,
because Mike Tomlin he doesn't have a losing record, so I'm.
Speaker 10 (19:15):
Not surprised he wants to win. Yep.
Speaker 15 (19:17):
My thing is how many years are going to keep going?
Speaker 6 (19:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (19:21):
How do you keep this train moving? And why do
you keep it moving?
Speaker 6 (19:24):
See?
Speaker 11 (19:24):
This sets me up for a question that I've got
for you because you start to hear it.
Speaker 10 (19:28):
From some of the players.
Speaker 11 (19:29):
At some point they find that it's getting a little
bit harder to get up out of bed and go
to OTAs or mini camp or training camp, and then
they've got to make that transition to civilian life. Right,
We've been talking about a guy that's getting close to
hanging up in Aaron Rodgers. When did you start getting
this sense that Isaac was getting ready.
Speaker 13 (19:48):
To hang it up?
Speaker 11 (19:48):
And what was that like the conversation of the family,
Because I know that's tough for a lot of families.
Speaker 15 (19:53):
I think it just happened that he ended up retiring
around the time we had our daughter.
Speaker 10 (19:58):
It came very naturally.
Speaker 15 (20:00):
I feel like it is these guys know their time
is coming towards the end, where he was like, oh,
this might be my last football season, really starting to
take it in. I was even taking in. I was like,
I'm going to every single way game.
Speaker 6 (20:12):
Here we go.
Speaker 15 (20:13):
Ye And so now he's really embracing this fatherhood, being
a stay at home dad. But at the same time,
the competitiveness of these players never goes away, like Pavilion life.
This man woke up and ran a marathon the other
What was that about.
Speaker 10 (20:29):
I have no idea.
Speaker 15 (20:31):
He's never ran more than ten miles in his Do.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
You text him like, Isaac, where are you?
Speaker 2 (20:35):
And He's like, I'm out doing aquick casual twenty six
point two.
Speaker 15 (20:38):
I just track him on like find my friends. I'm like, okay,
I'm just gonna let him be find my Isaac.
Speaker 10 (20:42):
Does find my Isaac?
Speaker 11 (20:43):
Well, how does he adjust to the schedule, right? I mean,
do you find yourself going you're lingering out?
Speaker 10 (20:49):
How did GMF be like I eat you in carpool?
Speaker 15 (20:52):
I think that's been the biggest challenge for us because
football has given us a strong cadence to our life.
Every year we have OTA's Camp, the football season, super Bowl,
and then it just keeps going on. So we don't
have this agent anymore. And I think that's where he's
going a little stir crazy. So he started to get
competitive with weird stuff like how many diapers can you change?
Speaker 12 (21:12):
Like, Okay, I'm here for the diaper record right there,
I'm here for it. This is all good stuff right here,
the competitive diaper record. I can't get over running ten
miles on purpose just for fun, but I'm here for it.
Speaker 6 (21:28):
Listen.
Speaker 12 (21:28):
The Rogers News obviously a big headline today, But Allison,
what's another off season storyline that you've been following that
you just can't get enough of?
Speaker 15 (21:36):
Oh my gosh, I personally love off season because I
get to see all of these players flourishing off the field.
So so many guys are getting engaged, married, having gosh, Allen, Yeah,
I'm like, we all know what we're talking about.
Speaker 10 (21:50):
And having babies.
Speaker 15 (21:51):
It's crazy because I feel like this is like the
baby boom but of the football world. Every off season
there's babies, engagement rings, weddings.
Speaker 10 (21:59):
I love to see it.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
It is hard though, as someone if you go through pregnancy.
In my mind, all that means is that their wife
was just at home, like suffering from pregnancy during the
football season, and I'm like, I feel for you, girl.
We got to although I wasn't really suffering. I was like, Okay,
I get my time alone because I get a little cranky,
and then he comes home just in time for.
Speaker 10 (22:19):
My feet to need you.
Speaker 9 (22:20):
And there, Allison, I feel like we're already bessies already
because I follow all of your content and you were
just so transparent on all your posts that I feel
like I really know you, but I don't, and so
I love that about you.
Speaker 8 (22:34):
You carry that over.
Speaker 9 (22:35):
From social media onto your Sunday.
Speaker 10 (22:37):
Sports Club podcast.
Speaker 9 (22:39):
How did you become so open and transparent with everything
about your life?
Speaker 15 (22:43):
Don't say you don't know me, because you actually probably do.
I chronically overshare, especially during my husband's football career.
Speaker 10 (22:51):
I had so much sharing all of the positives.
Speaker 15 (22:53):
There were some negatives that I also had to share.
When you're sharing, oh, my husband's getting signed to this
team and we're going this place, you also have to
share the ooh so my husband just got released, which
is the not so fun part. But I don't know,
it just became really natural being super transparent, also moving
around all the time. Yeah, you don't have a ton
of friends in the city you've never lived in before,
(23:16):
so I became friends with my camera as a client overshare.
Speaker 11 (23:21):
I do find it interesting when you share so much
about your life and then you meet strangers and they
think they know you, and I think a lot of
wise maybe don't understand that that's how their husbands feel,
right right, Like men will walk up and they know everything.
So has was that sort of a weird recalibration for
you about It's almost like you forget you're sharing with
people that aren't your friends, that they're actual strangers totally.
Speaker 15 (23:44):
I mean I will walk up to somebody at the
grocery shore they say, oh, I follow you on social media,
and then I go into introducing myself.
Speaker 10 (23:50):
I'm like, oh, this is my husband. They're like, yeah,
this you're cud right.
Speaker 15 (23:53):
I'm like, oh, yeah, okay, So I kind of forget
that when I share it goes to an audience that's
beyond my phone.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Yeah, what's your dream wag to get on the on
the show.
Speaker 15 (24:05):
I think if I could ask any question and the
barrier was down, I say, Brittany Mahomes, nice, I want
to know a little bit more about the inside of
Kansas City and Super Bowl. How much are you paying
for a suite at the Super Bowl? Are you splinging
that with Taylor who's been a requesting.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Yeah, I know all those details and gritty. You know,
this is perfect because Alison Koch is here. You have
a massive following online and as you just said, it's
because you decided to share your life and people love
this about you.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
But we're going to rely on your expertise. Now if
that's okay, We're going to play a game we have
come up with it. It's going to be.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Called social or so should not okay, So we have
some different tee ups and we need your stamp of
approval or just totally tell us to go the other way.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Here's the first scenario.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
A current NFL player is in contract talks with his team.
He unfollows the team on Instagram.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
Social or he should so not do that social not.
Speaker 15 (24:58):
Oh my gosh, at least wait until contracts have not
been signed or signed.
Speaker 10 (25:02):
Just give it some time.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
You're hurting your lever.
Speaker 15 (25:05):
Maybe mentally unfollow them mentally mute, yeah, mute, have your
girlfriend unfollow them, but don't unfollow them yourself.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Yes, stop sending messages like that. Perfect Okay, Madelin.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
The mute button is a very powerful stival.
Speaker 10 (25:17):
I am here for it now. Next scenario for you, Allison.
Speaker 12 (25:21):
A current NFL player creates a top five list of
quarterbacks but leaves his own quarterback off the list. Social
or so should not.
Speaker 10 (25:29):
Social not.
Speaker 15 (25:31):
Why are you making a list in the first place,
because any other quarterbacks that you left off that list,
you might come in contact.
Speaker 10 (25:38):
You could be playing on that same team tomorrow. So
absolutely not.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Tyreek Hill did this for the Miami Dolphins and he
just ceremoniously left to a tongue of ilo off list.
And it was awkward and uncomfortable and to your point,
now they have to stand next to each other and.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Two is like, do you want me to throw you
the ball? I guess I still have to because you're Tyreek.
Speaker 10 (25:54):
That's the locker room.
Speaker 6 (25:55):
I don't want to be.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Barstons did this with Dak too. It is a little awkward.
Speaker 11 (25:59):
Your pregame ritual includes a dance, and you want to
share it with your following. Worse, we're really seeing this
in college football, right.
Speaker 14 (26:08):
It's a little lock but social or social not?
Speaker 15 (26:12):
I think unless you can tell the future and you're
gonna win.
Speaker 10 (26:15):
Social not.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Oh, don't do it in anticipation.
Speaker 10 (26:20):
No, just don't do it like you know.
Speaker 15 (26:22):
Maybe no, because we've seen blowouts happen that you're expecting
either to take it.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
So you think Miles Garrett should not be practicing this
on TikTok and then posting it.
Speaker 15 (26:31):
Oh no, but can we leave that for after like
postgame celebrations, when I leave us wanting more?
Speaker 3 (26:40):
Yeah, man, this is really good. I'm learning Tomarra Allison.
Speaker 9 (26:44):
I'm a big throwback Thursday girly or you know, today's Friday,
So flashback Friday. And I've got an old photo of
myself interviewing a college player.
Speaker 10 (26:53):
Who's really famous in the NFL. Should I share it
social or should I not? You know social?
Speaker 6 (27:01):
Why not?
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Okay, let's share it? Then I think should Alison? What
do you know?
Speaker 13 (27:09):
So she'll not? So should not walk us through it.
Speaker 15 (27:13):
I tried getting that man to cut his hair for
a long time. He just didn't know the upkeep with curls,
and now that I have a daughter with curly hair,
I'm like, I don't think you were doing enough. So
he looks great without that hair.
Speaker 11 (27:28):
I mean you kind of see the glove when some
girls are with their man, and I think we saw
a glow up.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
You're just staring. Great. You guys look great.
Speaker 10 (27:37):
You guys have came came a long way.
Speaker 13 (27:39):
I think you did a good job.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Ali said, tell everybody where you can listen to your podcast.
Speaker 15 (27:44):
And follow you Sunday Sports Club podcast every Sunday.
Speaker 10 (27:48):
Wherever you get your podcasts, you can.
Speaker 15 (27:50):
Tune in to get all the behind the scenes and
you know, maybe Brittany Mahomes one day.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Let's go. It's a wish list. You want you on
the show.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
It's a top five list, and Alison is putting Brittany
Mahomes on it and many other guests that she have.
Alison coach everybody. I mean, you hear it all the
time you watch our show. You're let's talk some football.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Who sings that? Who sings it?
Speaker 2 (28:10):
That woman right here, the Emmy and Oscar winning musician
Melissa Ethridge in her what I approved to be a
very wonderful pair of Kansas City Chief sweatpants.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
Those things are awesome. I love this for us, Melissa,
It's great to see you.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
Oh, it's such a pleasure to be here.
Speaker 9 (28:26):
You know.
Speaker 6 (28:27):
I love you guys.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Oh, we love you. Do you love Aaron Rodgers to
the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 6 (28:32):
I knew that last night.
Speaker 16 (28:33):
I went to bed, I said, I bet you Aaron
Rodgers does it tonight and we're just going to talk
about it.
Speaker 6 (28:39):
Lo and behold, you know what I love A forty
two year old man that you know is still showing
that your health and.
Speaker 16 (28:49):
Good self care, self care, all that stuff will get
you there.
Speaker 6 (28:54):
And you know, Pittsburgh Steelers, good luck, good luck with
that man, Good luck with that.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
How do you feel about it as a threat to
the team of the sweatpants who are wearing.
Speaker 13 (29:02):
In the AFC.
Speaker 16 (29:03):
Well, and what's funny is is Mahomes and Rochester have
never actually actively played each other. They've played, but each
time the quarterback was out. So it's like, I would
really like to get the opportunity to see that before we.
Speaker 6 (29:17):
Don't have Rogers anymore.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
That's a good point.
Speaker 11 (29:19):
Maybe there's a postseason to forgearance because unfortunately, during the
regular season, we're not saying it, but I'm with you.
I think it's crazy that those two I've never played
against each other. Last time we were here, you were,
you know, sitting at home walk guacamole, watching your.
Speaker 6 (29:32):
Chiefs in the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Oh, you can do it, okay, you know you don't
hate to bring it up.
Speaker 6 (29:37):
I know in early, but what happened to you? Orleans?
Speaker 16 (29:39):
Absolutely no sympathy because you know, it's having won so
many super Bowls, the five years we were having this
great thing, and and the year was so bizarre. We
won every game, but we were like, did we really
win the game? You know, everyone's like, I don't know,
they're going to fall apart, They're gonna fall. And we
got there and my children everyone gathered around, We're going
(30:00):
to watch the super Bowl, and it just we never
started playing.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Well, let's remind everybody to Melissa, you have every means
and resource to be at the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Every time the Chiefs are in. You could be there.
You choose not to be.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
So when you say your family and friends are around you,
you are actively sitting in front of that guacam only
saying no, I'm at home and I want.
Speaker 11 (30:18):
To watch this you didn't sometimes, I mean, the league's
gonna hate when I say this, but like sometimes don't
you just love sitting at home.
Speaker 6 (30:25):
That's.
Speaker 11 (30:27):
You can hear the game, Like if you really love football,
don't want to I want to hear the game.
Speaker 6 (30:32):
Yes, And so they might. We were very quiet during
the Superpower Yeah, no it was. And I was glad I.
Speaker 16 (30:38):
Wasn't there because then it would have been even harder
and even worse.
Speaker 6 (30:41):
But we didn't. We didn't even enter the game, that's what.
And we haven't had a.
Speaker 16 (30:45):
Game with Mahomes like that ever. We've always been within
you know, seven points of and somebody to just lay
the biggest egg in front of everybody.
Speaker 6 (30:56):
I mean it was like that. For the next few weeks.
People be like, okay, right.
Speaker 11 (31:02):
I think a lot of people knew there were some
of those deficiencies, right, And it's like when you're because
I covered more Kansas City games last year than I
had in my ten years here. And he just kept
waiting for the wheels to get off the bus, and
we kept.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Thinking hooking up to the super Bowl.
Speaker 10 (31:17):
They've got it.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
They got to help them out a little bit.
Speaker 11 (31:19):
And when they did it, especially from offensive line.
Speaker 6 (31:21):
For offensive line. It was just hard to.
Speaker 11 (31:24):
Watch though in real time.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Yeah, sometimes somehow we have to go cross country to
get us to physically turn the corner on this question, tamaraw,
what would you like to ask a list to make
sure that we turned.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
The chapter on the Chiefs?
Speaker 9 (31:34):
For her, Melissa shared with us how silent it was
and how somber it was seeing Mahomes not be his
usual self. So, now turning the corner, what's your confidence
level that they can bounce back and get back to
their dynasty ways.
Speaker 16 (31:46):
Oh, they're dynasty ways. Oh, I'm very confident one because
it's Andy Reid. You know, the coaching He has always
been steady and is supportive and clear, and we've got
the talent, and we did what we were supposed to
do the first round of the draft and got an
offensive lineman, shored up that left side, and you know,
(32:09):
you just got to believe that that's what it was.
I mean, he the Eagles had him figured out, kept
him right there in that pocket and just smashed him
every every play, right, And yeah, I feel very confident
that they know that that's.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
That's what it has to take.
Speaker 10 (32:24):
Yeah, Melissa, I got to ask.
Speaker 12 (32:26):
I mean I think one thing that needs to happen
to start turning the tide is to get you and
that outfit on Jamie's Sweatpants of the Day segment, cheef sweatpants.
Speaker 13 (32:34):
A great look.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
She's got a song.
Speaker 10 (32:36):
I'm sure you can lend a guitar.
Speaker 6 (32:38):
To it as well.
Speaker 12 (32:38):
It'll be a break collab, right right, happened, But it's.
Speaker 6 (32:45):
Not important.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Yes, they are very important.
Speaker 12 (32:47):
All right, let's talk about the teams that are going
for the Chiefs AFC thrown though.
Speaker 10 (32:53):
Are you worried about the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 16 (32:54):
Buffalo Bills. Let me tell you about me and the
Buffalo Bills. You know, they are serious fan base. You
know they smashed their tables. They are, and they really
I think they build their whole team just to beat
the Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (33:09):
They really.
Speaker 16 (33:10):
Josh Allen incredibly talented. The fan base is so intense.
This is a true story. I was going on my
tour in April and it was pretty much a tour
of the Northeast. I went up to you know, the
up to Buffalo Bill territory, and I flew my little
the airplane right there to Rochester.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
I get out of the baggage claim.
Speaker 16 (33:35):
You know, and then my bag comes out and I
have a very large chiefs sticker on my bag and
I have I have the you know, expensive I travel
a lot remair Wow luggage. And you put a sticker
on and I put a very large sticker on it,
you know, the chief sticker, And it comes off the
belt and it's like someone took a sledgehammer to it, right,
(33:58):
And I pull it off a table and I take
it to the baggage kind of like, oh my god,
look what happened to my bag.
Speaker 6 (34:05):
And he looks at the sticker and he goes, well,
what did you.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
Expect Western New York. You came for her luggage.
Speaker 11 (34:12):
But you know that's one way to get a free suitcase.
Speaker 4 (34:16):
If it's not looking so good.
Speaker 6 (34:20):
Yeah, I get on.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
As we always ask you, can you stay and hang
another segment?
Speaker 6 (34:26):
I can?
Speaker 2 (34:26):
And as we always ask, you, have you come up
with an original tune for the show today?
Speaker 6 (34:30):
How can I know?
Speaker 13 (34:31):
Abor?
Speaker 3 (34:33):
The guitar is waiting patiently off camera.
Speaker 13 (34:36):
It is tuned.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
She is ready, she is here. Everybody.
Speaker 6 (34:43):
We're gonna celebrate it.
Speaker 13 (34:44):
Yeah, good morning football.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
Melissa Ethrige is dangerously close to making her day job,
just coming to go work in football and creating music.
But she really does have one which is touring on
the road. He was a Grammy and Oscar winner. Right
now you're touring with.
Speaker 6 (35:07):
The Indigo girl.
Speaker 3 (35:08):
Wow, come on, it's fantastic.
Speaker 6 (35:10):
It is just for all the women of the world.
Come on out. Yeah, and guys too. It's a good song.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Absolutely. You can see her live or you can watch
her on GMFB. What have you come up with us today?
Speaker 6 (35:19):
In our original song?
Speaker 16 (35:20):
Well, since I love what you've done here the last,
yesterday and today bringing in an all female it's been amazing.
Speaker 6 (35:28):
Love you guys. You're great. But there's just a real
feeling and I wanted to let people know that.
Speaker 16 (35:35):
You know, sports in general is not just a kind
of a male thing, right, No, it's women not only sports,
but football.
Speaker 6 (35:46):
Women love football.
Speaker 17 (35:47):
I love football, My wife loves football. I you know,
we loved well, you know, I got a song explain it.
You know, I was a little bit girl.
Speaker 16 (35:59):
Oh my dad is me watching Lynn and Dawson and
can't see Chiefs. I like strength, persistence and the strategy.
Speaker 6 (36:10):
It's true women love football too, that.
Speaker 16 (36:19):
We know the offense, the defense and even special teams
on and and given Sunday.
Speaker 6 (36:26):
Yeah, we believe in the dream. Yeah, this could be
the year they could pull it all through.
Speaker 13 (36:33):
Oh it's true.
Speaker 6 (36:37):
Women love football all too. Oh I tell you what.
You can hear us all.
Speaker 16 (36:44):
Even at the TV screens, throwing the remotes and causing
a scene.
Speaker 6 (36:52):
And we're telling all.
Speaker 13 (36:53):
Our kids that god to find their.
Speaker 16 (36:55):
Own food because mom is physically and emotionally unavailable until
the game is all through. Oh yeah, hopelessly devoted to
whatever team we choose.
Speaker 6 (37:11):
We cry when they win and we cry when they lose.
Speaker 13 (37:16):
So take a look around if you don't believe it's true,
just like the boys.
Speaker 6 (37:22):
Dude, women love football.
Speaker 18 (37:34):
That was a banger, my favorite one. Yet, what was
the line available?
Speaker 6 (37:46):
No, I say that right before I watch a game.
Speaker 10 (37:50):
Much.
Speaker 16 (37:50):
I said, look for the next three hours, maybe four,
your mother is emotionally and physically unavailable.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
I am.
Speaker 6 (37:57):
You've got to find your food, whatever you gotta do.
Just I'm not here.
Speaker 11 (38:03):
Oh my gosh, that was audible. Take me behind the
creative process. How do you find the chords when you're
starting out? Do you start records? You start with lyrics, you.
Speaker 16 (38:10):
Know, And it's always different wherever the inspiration comes from.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
Like this.
Speaker 16 (38:14):
Actually, I was like, Okay, what do I want to
And this was the first thing I came up I
knew and yeah, so that's that's what I wanted.
Speaker 6 (38:22):
But it's always different.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
Ladies in New York. I love and Melissa Ethern.
Speaker 9 (38:27):
What I loved Melissa about your song is then it
started off you being a little girl on your daddy's knee.
Our love for football a lot of the times comes
from our dads. Thank god, Father's Father's Day is coming
up next week's shout for the dads and are the
reason why we love football.
Speaker 10 (38:44):
And I just I just really love that the song
started with that.
Speaker 12 (38:47):
And there's gonna be a whole new generation who gets
their love of football from their moms too, because women
love football too.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
Maybe I know, Melissa perfect. We always love seeing it.
That was really good.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Now quick, you're gonna you're gonna stay again?
Speaker 6 (39:03):
Sure, whatever you're saying, it's just been informed.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
In my ear.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
We decide for you. And the guitar stays too. Listen
as to everybody, she just comes. She brings the creative
genius and the juice and the heat for the Kansas
City Chiefs back on GMFB. Of course, this is what
has been leading the conversation for us most of the day,
and it's the fact that Aaron Rodgers sounds like he's
en route to Pittsburgh to commit to a one year
deal with the Steelers as their QB one, pending a
(39:28):
completion of a physical, and Mike Tomlin is hoping to
be better than five hundred and maybe win one or.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Two playoff games with that quarterback.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
I start in New York with Tamara Brown and Madeline
Burke tomorrow, I'll start with you.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
What do you make?
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Finally put a button on your Aaron Rodgers thoughts on
a Friday.
Speaker 13 (39:43):
Hello, Oh my gosh, he just couldn't sail.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
I couldn't.
Speaker 6 (39:50):
I am so excited to be here, guys, I've been watching.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
I feel like when I walked in as a surprise
at the very end of my wife's bridal shower. I'm
so excited.
Speaker 13 (40:00):
The energy is so good.
Speaker 12 (40:01):
Listen to me.
Speaker 13 (40:02):
I'm not coming in as a man today.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
I am coming in as a fan, and I'm coming
in to tender my resignation.
Speaker 13 (40:09):
I'm done after eight thousand episodes.
Speaker 6 (40:12):
Thank you NFL Network, Thank you Michael Davies.
Speaker 13 (40:14):
I'm fine. You found a.
Speaker 6 (40:15):
Better cast and better supporting staff. Guys, I've been watching today,
I've been watching yesterday.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Jamie West, everybody, Jane guys, amazing, amazing job.
Speaker 6 (40:23):
He's had to come in and say I love you
and doing incredibly y egg.
Speaker 11 (40:26):
I said, I know that Kyle Brandt has to hate
that he is not here to give his Aaron Rodgers
takes going to Steelers, so.
Speaker 7 (40:35):
You have time for a quiza and on Monday, buddy, yeah, listen.
