Speaker 2 (00:11):
Welcome to Good Morning Football, presented by Best Buy. Jamie
ear At All mant I Tao as always in Los Angeles,
Kyle Brant in New York, and Rodney Pete joining us
at the table in l a longtime NFL quarterback with
the USC.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Obviously, is it a fight on?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Is that what you're I'm just making sure I understand
we're doing here at the table.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Oka, good, I got it. How's your morning going, Rodney morning?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
It's great?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Okay, good, Great to see you, Kyle. What we got
in the hour.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Today, we got everything everything that happened over the weekend.
Speaker 5 (00:40):
This is a catch up Monday.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
The starting quarterbacks who played the backup quarterbacks who played
starters look sharp. I'm talking about guys like Caleb Trevor,
Lawrence rock Party. They showed why they're starters. We have highlights,
we have analysis, we have all of it. New York,
LA by Coastal GMFT.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Let's go, Jamie Manti, Kyle, Rodney Pete joining us at
the breakfast table on a Monday and Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
I believe as well.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Rodney great toe Roddie, We're gonna talk about the Cleveland
Browns quarterback room because you can't not look at it.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
It's like an eclipse.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Ronnie.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
When you played in the NFL, do you were look
at a team and they had just an list of
guys like, what is that organization doing?
Speaker 3 (01:17):
It's wild?
Speaker 5 (01:17):
Yeah, it really is.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
I actually it was on a team in Detroit when
I played where we had three quarterbacks and Wayne Fonce,
being a defense guy, didn't really know how to handle
three quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
At that time.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Andre Ware was there as well, so it was difficult.
So I look at Cleveland and I'm not sure what
they're doing. Yeah, really, I'm really not and they have
to make a decision sooner.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
Rather than later.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Absolutely, all right, We're going to take a look at
their highlights, Kyle, I think second in line, but first
the grounds of many quarterbacks should Or Sanders sitting out
this one after suffering in an oblique injury in practice
last week, So Dylan Gabriel gets to start just fight
having some hamstring tightness for himself. Gabriel drops back in
the first quarter and is actually found in the backfield
by the man that stole the microphone from me.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
On draft night.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
That's Johad Campbell, the thirty first pick out of Alabama.
That's four yard loss. Next third and ten, Dylan Gabriel
maneuvers finds Blake Whiteheart for a ten yard gain. The
rookie bounces back to keep the drive alive. Dylan Gabriel
making things work now. He throws a beautiful pass to
Jamari Thrash.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
That's for a seven yard gain. He's moving the chains.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Later in the drive, Amani Marshall takes the handoff, squeezes
into the end zone for four yard touchdowns. Okay, Dylan
Gabriel and Shadre Sanders approves. Brown's take a six nothing lead.
The extra point was blocked. Second quarter, Now Gabriel rolls out.
He's looking for Deontay Johnson looking slings it, but you
know who picks him off and takes it straight.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
To the house.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
That's Andrew mccouba, the second round pick out of Texas.
Reads the play perfectly. That is good for seventy five
yards to the back of the house. Eagles take a
seven to sixth lead after that.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Take another look Gabriel pick six.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
He didn't have a lot of them in his college career.
But Shadur Sanders and Kevin Sevanci watching on as we
are all waiting on baited breath for this quarterback decision
to be handled down by Kevin Stefan. Now, Dylan Gabriel
spoke with our own Judy Batista after the game.
Speaker 6 (03:08):
Take listen.
Speaker 7 (03:10):
Obviously there's lots of big decisions coming up in the
next few weeks for the organization.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
What specifically do you think you need to show the Browns?
Speaker 8 (03:18):
Yeah, just be myself. I think everyone has to do that.
I think we have to continue to find our team
and who we are and our identity. I think that's
slowly happening, like I said, But for the most part,
you got to go out there and play. The best
guys will be on the field, the best eleven and
that's what we want to do.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah, that's what we are all waiting for, Dylan Gabriel.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Is the definition of the Cleveland Browns offensively this season?
Tom Pellasero, our NFL Network insider with us this morning time,
any clarity here, any help on the definition of what
the quarterback room will look like in Cleveland?
Speaker 5 (03:50):
Well, Jamie.
Speaker 7 (03:50):
Kevin Stefanski said after that preseason game they wanted to
get through the next couple of days before making a
public declaration on his starting quarterback. However, if you simply
follow where the reps have been going, the answer seems
pretty obvious. Joe Flacco has been the number one quarterback
throughout the entire summer, the entire training camp, in the
(04:10):
course of practice. Joe is forty years old, doesn't really
need the preseason action, but given the fact that nobody
else has even gotten their opportunities with the starting offense,
would tell you there's a very high percentage chance that
sometimes in the next day or two, we'll find out
Flacco indeed is the week one starter. Now, in terms
of the rest of the quarterback room, injuries have certainly
been a big factor here. Kenny Pickett has been dealing
(04:33):
with a hamstring. He's been back in practice for a
week or two, but hasn't really been able to be
a full participant, has not participated at all in terms
of the preseason.
Speaker 9 (04:42):
And then you've got the rookies.
Speaker 7 (04:43):
Dylan Gabriel, who got his opportunity a bit of a
bumpy ride at times, but overall some positives in his
performance over the weekend, and of course Senor Sanders who
performed well in the preseason opener against Carolina and then
suffered an injury that sidelined him for the game over
the weekend. So in terms of how they actually stack up,
(05:04):
biggest question would be Teddy Pickett. Is he healthy enough
to be a part of the Week one roster. Is
he potentially the backup to Joe Flacco, shaduor Sanders. Based
on what he showed in Carolina, you would not think
that he's going to get cut. He would get claimed
off of waivers. So he and Dylan Gabriel third round pick,
probably both make this team.
Speaker 9 (05:21):
The question whether it's.
Speaker 7 (05:22):
Three quarterbacks or four likely depends on exactly what they
do with Picket. But again, barring some type of a
really big surprise, it does seem like Joe Flacco will
be the starter out of the gate.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Gam Tom, thank you.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
We'll talk to you in a little bit about a
pass rusher elsewhere in the AFC North.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Just hangtight.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
So Dylan Gabriel, Rodney, we watched him, we got to
look at him, We saw Schador last week. But still
the fact that we keep listing these quarterbacks this late
in August, it's got to be kind of uncomfortable at
this point.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Yes, especially if you're a rookie. These two rookies they got,
they're in a tough situation because, first of all, Dylan
Gabriel he goes there, he's drafted in the third round. Okay,
I'm the future. And then Shador gets drafted right after him.
With the big personality all the things that come along
with that, it's got to be very difficult, not only
on Shador but also on Dylan because all of the
(06:09):
attention is on Shador. So I don't envy that situation
at all.
Speaker 10 (06:13):
Yeah, and I'll talk about Dylan Gabriel's performance a little bit.
The guy he was accurate, Like from what I saw,
he was accurate. Like you saw some of those passes
on third down, some of those deep out routes, and
you know this, Rodney, those deep out routes are the
hardest routes to throw. But if you watch this interception, guys,
just watch number eighty six, Watch the tit end Blake Whiteheart.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
On this one. Like everybody's gonna talk about this interception,
but watch Blake Whiteheart pull his hands back like he.
Speaker 10 (06:40):
Just make the play, Like it's right there for you,
just make the play, and so we did some thanks
to Adr researcher, we did some.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
We did some what ifs if the.
Speaker 10 (06:49):
Titan caught the ball and got tackled right there. This
is what Dylan gabriel stat line was going to be.
Fourteen for eighteen for one hundred and forty eight yards,
zero touchdowns, your interceptions. Out of all those plays, out
of all those strows, the only throw that you saw,
Dylan Gabriel may on social media all weekend long.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
Was that was that interception. You didn't see anything else.
Speaker 10 (07:09):
And I needed to come on this morning and say,
Dylan Gabriel, you played a fantastic game like you were accurate.
You laid your team down there on the first trip
for a touchdown. Now you you threw that pick six,
but tight end put that touch the ball, knock it down.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
Something I've just never.
Speaker 10 (07:28):
Seen that where he just retracted his hands and allowed
the differend picket.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
That's a conversation in the fields, like an outfielder who
doesn't go for the ball because he thought his teammate
was going.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
To catch it.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
I feel like the wide receiver was there, so he
pulled his hands back and he didn't think it was
maybe supposed to be thrown to him.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
That was very odd.
Speaker 10 (07:44):
Yeah, it was very very odd, and so like, it's
also odd for two guys to be that close, to
get two offensive guys to be that close. So I
don't know if somebody ran the wrong route or whatever,
but it was just one of those situations where, unfortunately
for day Dylan Gabriel on his stat sheet, it does
show an interception for a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Well listen, the headlines that Dylan Gabriel made over the
weekend were about his quote about entertainers and every thing,
which I know Manta is going to talk about shortly,
but I'm glad to hear have Rodney here, who has
been in part of an unconventional quarterback room where that
leaves fans just saying, like, what are we doing here?
Speaker 5 (08:14):
Who's the guy? This one is still an all timer.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
I still don't know where this one stands, except to say, well,
I guess it's flat oh, because you know, he won
the Super Bowl like fifteen years ago, and he's been
around and stuff like that.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
I just keep going back to this moment in the
off season when Miles Garrett's going on a whistle stop
tour saying he wants to be traded out of Cleveland,
and then they pay him about a billion bucks and
he's like, oh, I love it here. And he sat
down and they were like, hey, so do you know
what's going on with the quarterback?
Speaker 5 (08:41):
And he kind of just smiled. Remember this it als
hears just do you know who the quarterback is going
to be? I mean, do you have an idea? After conversations,
I do have an idea? Okay, do you like the idea?
Speaker 4 (08:54):
I like it enough to be here smiling in front
of you because I think we have a good chance
of that happening and making the most out of it.
Speaker 9 (09:02):
Can you tell us who it is?
Speaker 5 (09:03):
Miles? You know I can't do that.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
We gotta unpack that because now sitting here in August.
So they gave him some kind of idea. How did
that conversation go? That's like that's back in March and
they're like, Miles, we have this huge deal for you,
and he's like, well, hold on, I'd like to know
who the quarterback's gonna be because this is a lot
of money. But you know, I'm a veteran now and
I want to win. They're like, glad you asked, it's
(09:27):
gonna be great. The first thing we're gonna do is
we're gonna sign We're gonna sign Kenny Pickett. We're gonna
trade for him, Kenny Pickett from the Eagle. Yeah, we're
gonna We're gonna trade a fifth round pick in DTR
for Kenny Pickett.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
He's all right, that's fine. And then we're gonna sign
Joe Flacco.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
And he's like flacough. He's pretty old, isn't he. Yeah,
but you know he's been around, he knows what he's doing.
And then wait till we get to the draft. We're
gonna just draft a quarterback in the third round. He's
all right, that's good, And we're gonna draft one in
the fifth round. And then when camp comes around, we're
gonna bring in Snoop Huntley. That's the idea. What do
you think of it? He's like, that's a lot of money.
That sounds great. Let me just sign. I didn't hear
any of that nonsense you were saying, but I'd be
(10:02):
happy to be a Cleveland Brown for life. What was
that look and that expression and that smirk? If not
for Yeah, they told me some sort of nonsense. I
don't know what they're doing at quarterback, but I know
Benjamin Franklin's my QB one. What is he smiling at
there other than his direct deposit and how many ferraris
he's gonna buy because they have six sept Beaters and
(10:23):
Lemons and cars right off the lot. At quarterback, that's
the look of a man who's like, we ain't winning,
but I'm earning big time. That is still the strangest response.
And we're looking at it now and it's like, well,
quarterback depth charts, checking accounts, quarterback chep chart, or even
know my starting quarterback is Well's fargo. I love the man.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
He's got a great arm. Congratulations Miles Kyle.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
What's even more fascinating about that, A breakdown of it
is that there wasn't even a flirtation of a report
or a news headline that had a quarterback worthy of
that facial expression from Miles Garrett to warrant that response.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
It wasn't even like, oh.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Well, you know, sports are that they are going to
sign Rogers or they're going to trade for Kirk Cousins.
We never even heard any of that. It was literally
sign him and then the Kenny Pickett Joe Flacco Express
started So to me, Kyle, I mean, correct me if
I'm wrong.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
There wasn't even a thought.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
That we heard something really sexy that blew our hair back.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
That never happened.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Well, the idea at the time was, oh my gosh,
they're going to make a big splash and draft Shador
Sanders in the first round and da da da dah.
Like no, they let like three hundred picks go by,
and they drafted him for a lot of different reasons.
They didn't like him that much. They liked Gabriel more
than him. So people thought like, there must be something
really cool coming. And there we have a picture of
(11:43):
a fifth round pick and a guy who's really really,
really wealthy and might not win anything in his career.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
What can I say? Guys, like, that's just the point.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
But the fact that he gave Siciliano that like oh yeah,
oh yeah, oh, they told me the plan.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
All right, they got something nasty coming.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
And it was this like Costco slash landfill of players
just in one position, pick your own, like it's it's
so strange, so weird.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
I'm having a vision of like a wheelbarrow and the
players are just in it and they're like, come on.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Quarterbacks, like jump in. We're getting to the season. Who
wants to be a part of it? All right?
Speaker 2 (12:15):
So it's a great look for Miles Garrett constantly in
the conversation for Defensive Player of the Year, as is
somebody else in the AFC North Tom Pellisaro, get back
in here, because now we got to talk about the
NFL leader in saxophone last season and Trey Anderson.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
At what time.
Speaker 7 (12:29):
Lolita's first off? Chime in on the Miles Garrett thing
that we keep seeing there because if you watch the
Cliff Sociliano goes like, do you like the plan? And
there's a pause, Miles goes, I like it enough to
be smiling in front of you.
Speaker 9 (12:45):
Can you imagine if someone asked.
Speaker 7 (12:47):
Kyle, like, hey, do you like your wife anyone? I
like her enough to be smiling here in.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
Front of you.
Speaker 7 (12:52):
That's not going to a ringing endorsement of whatever the
plan was. I'm just saying for Miles Garrett, he ended
up getting a let's call it a multi layered type
of a plan. We'll see exactly how things shake out
right there in Cleveland.
Speaker 9 (13:05):
They open up the.
Speaker 7 (13:06):
Season against the Cincinnati Bengals, and the big question now,
it's not about Miles Garrett. He got his deal back
in March. It's whether or not Trey Hendrickson is going
to be on the field for Cincinnati. As Ian Rapport
and I reported yesterday contract talks remain at an impass
and the Bengals are listening to trade offers for their
four time Pro Bowl defensive end. There is no deal
(13:29):
that is imminent at this stage surrounding Trey Hendrickson. There
is going to be a significant price on this, but
this is a rarity. The NFL's reigning sack Champ is available. Besides,
have been basically in agreement on the big numbers of
the years, the total dollars on this deal for several weeks.
They have not been in agreement on the guarantees. Hendrickson
(13:49):
has said publicly and privately he wants a multi year commitment.
The Bengals have been unwilling to guarantee anything beyond twenty
twenty five for Cincinnati.
Speaker 9 (13:59):
The reasoning is, well, if we fully.
Speaker 7 (14:01):
Guarantee a guy who's already thirty years old, then in
twenty twenty seven he's thirty two to thirty three and
he starts to fall off.
Speaker 9 (14:06):
We don't want to be on the hook for the money.
Speaker 7 (14:08):
Hendrick Sitton is going I got thirty five sacks over
the last two years.
Speaker 9 (14:11):
I've been fully healthy. Why would you.
Speaker 7 (14:13):
Think that I'm going to fall off here? There are
going to be teams that are interested in Trey Henderson.
There are multiple teams that have been in contact with
the Bengals in recent days. The Bengals don't do a
whole lot of trades, but the price, from my understanding,
has softened somewhat from before the draft when they turned
down a second round pick and change. At that time
they wanted a first rounder or nothing. Now we're way
(14:35):
beyond the draft. The draft pick can't help you in
twenty twenty five, so it seems like it would be
more likely to be a player, maybe even a defensive end,
to replace that sack production plus a pick.
Speaker 9 (14:45):
In the twenty twenty sixth draft.
Speaker 7 (14:46):
We did get a couple of trades that came together
on Sunday at a time a year that frankly, there's
players who are on the bubble for different teams. Maybe
sometimes it makes sense to just swap them. The Eagles
and Texans did that in a deal that sends wide
receiver John Metchi the third to Philadelphia, tight end Arts
and Bryant to Houston. The teams also flipped draft picks
(15:08):
a fifth and sixth rounder, the exact picks they previously
flipped in a deal that said CJ. Gardner Johnson to
Houston and Kenyan Green to Philadelphia. Time as a flat circle,
both teams now have their original draft picks. And we
also had a deal late last night involving two teams
that played.
Speaker 9 (15:25):
Each other on Sunday.
Speaker 7 (15:27):
It is the Saints sending defensive tackle Colin Saunders to
Jacksonville in exchange for center Luke Fortner, a depth move
by both teams. Colin Saunders, right there had one of
the most improbable interception returns that we have ever seen.
His brothers a backup dancer for Taylor Swift. There's a
lot of good stories to Colin.
Speaker 9 (15:45):
Sonders, but he's also a really good player.
Speaker 7 (15:48):
That Jacksonville front office they want to be aggressive in
the trade market. They pulled off a deal for a
guy who started against them yesterday. Several hours later, Well,
he just hopped the first flight to Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Oh man, that's fantastic. Tom thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
It's a good point, like these things don't happen this
time of year to keep track of them. Really cool
for John Metchi to be reunited with some of the
Alabama guys in Philadelphia.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Moving on on.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
GMFB, Dylan Gabriel, we've played one part of an in
game interview that he had with the Browns game against
the Eagles. There was another part of his comments that
made headlines. During a sideline interaction. Manti's going to get
into this because once again, if you look.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
At just one piece of the puzzle, doesn't look.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Great, Kyle, No, but it looks tasty, doesn't.
Speaker 5 (16:32):
Everybody just pounced on that.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
That was I don't know, maybe different choice of words.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
Rookie learning moment. We'll get into it.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
I've arrived, Okay, that was the quote I'm speaking of,
Maybe a rookie learning moment. Ashton Dency's postgame comment after
doing this to Diamador Lenarbo, Yeah, I hear that music.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
It feels like a Tuesday. It's not. It's Monday.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
We'll get there soon enough. But I jumped out of
my seat, which was dangerous because I was on a
plane when I was watching this Ashton Jetty highlight's coming up.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
We'll break it down.
Speaker 6 (17:15):
Good football.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Now we cover most of the highlights from over the weekend. MANSI,
there must be a player. Let's all go around the table,
shall we? Player that caught our eye from over the weekend?
Preseason weekend?
Speaker 5 (17:26):
Two, guys, gotta be Stetson Bennett.
Speaker 10 (17:28):
Guys, nice out of Georgia where everybody knows this story.
He wins a national championship, then he goes through some
mental health stuff. Well, he comes back and he plays
this the past two weeks.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
Guys, this past.
Speaker 10 (17:38):
Week he was twenty eight to thirty fourth, three hundred
and twenty four yards and three TVs, led them to
a game winning drive against the Chargers. Guys, Digital, stets
And Bennett leads the NFL in the past two weeks
in passing yards and passing TV's let's go. He's seven
in completion percentage and his passer rating is fit Like,
well done, steps and Bennet, Yeah, well done. Like the
(17:59):
guy has just shown tremendous, tremendous hard work, work, thick
resilience and you can name all of those attributes. When
I see Stetson Bennett out there doing what he needs
to do. Continuing to just persevere. I'm happy for this
young man. Continue to do your thing. Sets In Bennett will.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
Following mem go ahead, Ronnie, you know what, in a day,
let's stick with the quarterbacks because in a day where
nobody likes to play in the preseason, right, nobody wants
to play. Justin Herbert went to Harball earlier in the
week said I want to play, right and he hasn't played.
I didn't even know this.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
He has never played a I.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Know we were blown away by that last.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
Yeah, unbelievable, but he went and played. I think it
sends a message to the rest of the team. I'm
ready to go. And it was against the Rams obviously
to LA team, so it was good to see him
out there and for refreshing that a guy wants to
play in preseason.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
What do you make of Herbert though, just in general, Kyle,
before you go the fact that he was his second
year with Harbaugh, and do you think that this single
finally clicked together?
Speaker 5 (18:54):
It has to.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
This is the time he's kind of flown under the
radar a little bit when you talk about criticism. Yes,
but this is a year, second year with Harble. As
you mentioned he has to he has to deliver. They
have to go deep into the playoffs. I believe otherwise
they're going to start talking about him as a guy
that can't get it done.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Yeah, you're exactly right, there is I'm going to go next.
There is not a more jarring turn to make than
from a guy who's on commercials all the time here
in LA and justin Herbert to an undrafted wide receiver
in New England named Efton Chisholm. That's the player that
caught my eye from over the weekend last week and
I had him in did you catch that? Just to
make sure we had him on the list for names
that you were paying attention to. Undrafted guy out of
(19:32):
Eastern Washington. Now he played five seasons at Eastern Washington.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
Because of the COVID season.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
He actually broke Cooper Cupp's reception record that he had
at Eastern Washington.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Cooper Cup would obviously go to the Rams in the
third round.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
This guy goes undrafted, signed with the Patriots in late May,
and now he's got quotes from his quarterback saying he
stays after he blocks in the run game, which we
all know quarterbacks are obsessed with he is working with
the offensive coordinator constantly, Efton Chisolm. Very likely that he's
going to make a fifty three.
Speaker 10 (20:01):
Man roster, Jamie, you stole him like that was my
Actually my first choice was Chism.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
After watching that it.
Speaker 10 (20:07):
Was there was I was like, oh, I'm gonna pick that,
and then I saw you picked them.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
I was like, oh, Chism and Isaac Teslaw, those are
my guys.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
How did you catch that?
Speaker 4 (20:16):
That's why the names are were wonderful.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
I saw Tuslaw over the weekend again, not not Tesla Teslaw.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
I like that guy. He's good, he's really good.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
But I will go Afton Chisholm, an undrafted guy to
a guy who was drafted sixth overall. Why are we
waiting this long to bring the Ashton genty highlights. Let's
just do it because this is not only entertaining, not
only fun, This is sweet sweet justice three two one.
Speaker 5 (20:41):
Yeah, that's the play.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
That's the play, that's the spot, that's the kool aid man.
Speaker 5 (20:48):
Oh yeah, right through that red and gold wall. Listen,
Ashton Dentcy. He's only two hundred and eight pounds.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Guys, that's not Derrick Henry out there. But he's too
aweight packed on a five foot eight inch chassis.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
That is how you get the physics involved than that play.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
And you know why I said, Justine, all these pictures
are so great.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
I mean, they're so good.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
That's the damn Heisman pos right, He's doing it in
a preseason game.
Speaker 5 (21:15):
But here's why I like it, because we.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Are so into the upside down with preseason takes on players.
And it's one thing if you say, oh, this guy's
the greatest guy ever because he did this in a
preseason game, at least that's optimistic and positive.
Speaker 5 (21:28):
The opposite side of it a.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Bus city, mid season form, mid season form guys, the
worst bus guys even worse.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
And Ashton Genty was hearing it last week.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
After a game against the Seahawks and which he ended
a negative yardage so much so that it wasn't just
the idiots online, the actual Seahawks who they played against
got involved online and made jokes about Ashton Jentsy.
Speaker 5 (21:50):
Here's the joke.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
So the Seahawks stopped Jensy the negative yards tasay. Some
people are saying George Lani is the best running back
out of Poise State.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
George o Lani is a guy who they.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
Grabbed in two thousand and four and signed out of
Boise State, and they're saying he's already better than Ashton
Jentsy ha aha. I can bring up a million tweets
from just Booger eating Lemmings online making jokes that gents
didn't see competition like this at Boise State isn't big
enough for the pro game. Bus city, Bus city guys.
It's not only is it preseason, it's a running back deal.
(22:19):
Running Backs get tackling for loss all the time. Saquon
did a bunch of last year. It's just part of
the game. So finally he comes out in the second
preseason game, I say, finally and just truck somebody. That's
the guy that we're looking for. That's the guy that
we want, and I think that's the guy that Pete
Carroll has in Las Vegas.
Speaker 5 (22:35):
Thank you, Kabie.
Speaker 10 (22:35):
Just some context on that play where he trucked the dbat.
That was after he tried to chuck the linebacker, hurt
his shoulder a little bit, went.
Speaker 5 (22:42):
Into the blue tent, came back out. I was like,
I'm gonna truck somebody else.
Speaker 10 (22:46):
Like that's just like from a mentality standpoint, It's like
I just hurt my right shoulder trying to chuck a linebacker.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
Well, this time, I'm going to try to chuck somebody else.
And he continued to do that.
Speaker 10 (22:55):
Not only does he do this to Leonor, but he
also does it and his touchdown run. So that's a
mentality that I think that Pete Carroll has instilled in
this Raiders team. You see it, you see it in
Mad Match, you see it everywhere for this Raiders team.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
So it's been looking nice for the Raiders as of late.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
This is such a thing that happens in the preseason
where you see a play like this from a young
running back and you're like, I'm drafting him in fantasy.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
I don't care, I'm drafting him. I'm taking him high.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Like I have the number two pick in my draft,
and everybody says that in the number one pick is
gonna be either Bejon Robinson or Jamar Chase.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
I'm sitting.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
I'm like, I think I'm taking gent number two. I
don't know what all the fantasy guys say, and I
just think I'm taking them. Like you get seduced early
on by a good highlight from rookie I'll never forget.
I call it the Beanie Wells effect. Beanie Wells comes
out of Ohio State.
Speaker 5 (23:42):
In the preseason for the Cardinals, makes this.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Incredible touchdown run, and I think I drafted him irresponsibly
high that year, just because you get intoxicated.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
By this stuff. So I'd be like GenZ, like.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
If you're there at two and I think you will be,
I may take you. I'll have to talk to my
guys and Rosenthal and Adam Rank and all the guys
who know more about fantasy than I do. But right now,
I don't care if I'm drunk or not. I'm taking
gent number two. Tuk me out of it.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
I don't care.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
It's a good portant clarification. Kyle, well done.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
I just want to make a PSA for the I
think it was they were called booger eating lemmings that
Kyle called them. He actually did you a service this morning.
We had the tweets ready to show and Kyle's like, no,
I don't want to do that to the booger eating lemmings.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
And he actually made a pass.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
So you get one pass to have your takes about
Ashton genty and they will not be seeing Kyle. That's it,
like you are not If they do it again, you
are not going to be so nice the second time around.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Yeah, the staff curated a bunch of tweets from booger
eating Lemons about Ashton GenZ and we ran through them
doing commercial and I'm like, I don't know those booger
eating lemons.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
I don't know them personally.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
I don't know what's a comedy account, what's a football account.
I don't know who's serious and who's not. And if
I'm going to put up someone's name, I'm going to
have to tee off on that booger eating lemons. Then
I'm going to be involved in some Twitter where I
don't involved any of that nonsense. So I spared the
booger eating lemons and I just went with the Seahawks tweet.
But booger eating lemons, we know you're out there and
we will do it again.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
You get one pass next time you don't. It's just
part of it.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
You know, there's entertainers and there's competitors, and I totally
understand that, and my job is to compete.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Context is king when you're listening to what people have
to say. Specifically about really controversial topics in the NFL.
So that is Dylan Gabriel during an in game sideline
interview after his couple series were done as the starter
for the Browns this weekend.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
Manti, that's just a part of it.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
There are entertainers and there are competitors, and people ran
with this because he has a very entertaining personality as
a teammate in Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
Manti.
Speaker 10 (25:38):
Yeah, it's so funny that this is how we kind
of navigate in media.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
Now.
Speaker 10 (25:42):
You read a headline and then you watch like a
seventh second clip that relates to that headline, and then
you base your opinions off of that seven second clip
instead of watching whole things.
Speaker 5 (25:51):
So I'm gonna do you a favor.
Speaker 10 (25:53):
I got the whole entire question and all those answers
right here for you.
Speaker 5 (25:57):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
You gave us some fabulous wisdom and how you tune
out the noise and you don't infiltrate herself.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Will you share that with everybody at home?
Speaker 8 (26:08):
Yeah, I think it's just part of it. You know,
there's there's entertainers and there's competitors, and I totally understand that,
and my job is to compete and that's what I'm
focused on doing. Of course we're doing this mid game,
but uh, you know it's something that I'll get used
to and just want to be the best team that
I can and create an environment where we can all
go do our best work. That's all we want to do.
Speaker 10 (26:29):
What's what's so important is right after that, right before
we cut that segment, ADDI, the reporter says, I'm sorry
that I'm sorry that we're doing this.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
I feel like you're calling me out.
Speaker 10 (26:38):
Like the reporter didn't even think that when he said
this that he was referring to Shuder centers like this
is her, this is her response to everything that has
been coming out about Dylan Gabriel and trying to make
sure that everybody understands the context at who he's talking about.
But to Collin's point, Dylan could have chose better words
like saying entertainers and all of this like it did
(26:59):
put him in a position to be scrutinized there.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
But I will say this to all of those people that.
Speaker 10 (27:03):
Are giving this guy, this this young man a lot
of flak for what he said, I think all those
people should apologize to Shadur because off.
Speaker 5 (27:12):
Of a blank statement with no context on it.
Speaker 10 (27:15):
You put your context in that statement and immediately thought
that he was referring to Shadur Centers. So you think
that Shadu Sanders is the entertainer and that he didn't
say who he thought was what he said, I'm the competitor.
Speaker 5 (27:27):
You guys put your spin on it.
Speaker 10 (27:29):
You guys put your thoughts and context on it, and said, oh,
he must be thinking that Shaduer Centers when that was.
I don't know Dylan Gabriel that well, but I do
know him enough to say that when I heard the quote,
I didn't even think of Shaduur Centers, that that didn't
even come to mind. But I do know that you
guys don't have that ability. Ninety nine point nine percent
of people don't know Dylan, So I'm here to tell
you Dylan didn't.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
He's one of the most humble guys.
Speaker 10 (27:52):
And regardless of all of that, he and the reporter
clarified what he was referring to. He could have used it,
He could used better words, Kyle, But I just thought
that it was funny how this thing kind of took
on a whole sh of its own based off a
seven second clip and a big headline.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Yeah, entertainer in this context is a loaded word. And
some of us remember about fifteen years ago Cam Newton
came out when he was entering the League and said
he wants to be an entertainer and an icon, and
people's eyes rolled out of their head and then Cam
had to walk it back and sell these things. So
that word has been around the block before, and it's
always very negative. It was just unfortunate I think that
(28:29):
Dylan landed on that. But to mad size point, Look,
there's a million pieces of media commentary we can have
on this, and none of them are flattering. If you
really think that Dylan Gabriel has it in his DNA
to come out and take a direct shot at Shador
Sanders in his own quarterback room, then Dylan Gabriel some
kind of crazy maniac. I don't think that's what he
is about as a person. And also I agree, man Si,
(28:52):
if you saw this and said that he's talking about
Shador and if you wielded it for whatever content on
whatever platform you're on, you're actually insulting Shador by you're
the one saying he's an entertainer. Shadur is all about work.
And on the field, keeping his mouth shut and earning
his teammates respects. Don't paint him with that entertainer brush
just because it's convenience and you get clicks. Dylan Gabriel
(29:14):
did it by accident, don't do it on purpose.
Speaker 5 (29:16):
Be better than that. But I know I'm talking to
a wall right now.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Ye, Rome, Yeah, maybe it was an accident, but you
got to be smarter than that. I think you know
the tension that is surrounding that quarterback room. You understand
that there is a level and it's either you love
Shador or you hate him. Yeah, so there's no in between.
(29:40):
And so I get it that he wasn't directly talking
about Shador, but I'm telling you ninety percent of the
people out there thought he was. Yeah, and that's unfortunate because, yeah,
they cleared it up afterwards. But when he says entertainer,
and then you think about his teammate and the legendary
draft day, all the things that came from Colorado and
(30:01):
showmanships and all that kind of stuff, there's no question
and that people would think, oh, he's taking a shot
at do it, and that's unfortunate. And yes, I believe
he's a good person that he wouldn't do it intentionally,
but sometimes that subconscious seeps in, and I'm sure there's
a lot of tension in that quarterback room, unfair or
(30:23):
fair well, however you want to look at it, and
sometimes things come out. And I'm just saying to Dylan,
You've got to be very careful with your words because
nowadays everything gets out there and everything gets blown out
of proportion.
Speaker 10 (30:34):
Yeah, You're exactly right, He's just it's choice of words,
Like there's so much power in words like to say entertainer,
Like we knew after him explaining what happened and Aditi
coming out and explaining that he was referring to the
media and all the attention and all of that stuff,
that they have a job as media to do what
they have to do, and him, as a player, he
has to do. I think when he chose those two
(30:55):
words entertainer and competitor, the ninety percent to your point
was like I know exactly who he's referring to. I
even went back and try to see all of the
things that he said in the past, and the only
thing that I could ever grab was what his head
coach said at the Oregon when they plaid Colorado during
their pregame speech. It was like, you know, we're not
(31:16):
on social media, like, we're here to play this game.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
Shot. He took a shot and you knew exactly where
it was.
Speaker 10 (31:21):
So I that's the furthest I could take it right,
that's the first connection I could take it. But again,
to this point, I think a lot of people are
just led into this world of here's a headline, here's
a clip that's associated with that headline, and everybody doesn't
take the time to listen to the entire interview and
then base their own opinions off the entire interview.
Speaker 5 (31:42):
But definitely Dylan didn't. He didn't make it easy.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
I've got this family member who has this really fancy
fireplace in their house, and there the pilot light in
the fireplace is very significant. It always makes me think
the fire is actually on, like no, no, no, it's just
the pilotlight.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Makes me feel like.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
When these rookies go through media training that every organization
probably has a pilot light topic that you shouldn't go need.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
Because it's just gonna stay lit.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
And it's like Dylan Gabriel don't even say anything that
is close to the flame of the Shador Sanders category
and you'll be just fine otherwise that pilot light and
you flip that switch, and like everyone is just gonna
lose their minds over it, because the thing.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
Will the media will light on fire about it. GMFB.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
On a Monday, we got to check in with Rodney
Pete about quarterbacks, about his time in the NFL, and
we're gonna keep picking his brain here on a Monday.
Speaker 6 (32:29):
We'll bear back, Good Morning Football.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
This scene has to be a thrill of a century
for Lions fans. Aiden Hudginson hyping crowd up expected to
be ready week one, which is incredible for this line's defense,
not if like they need it.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
After that preseason game.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
That's Isaac Lupu sacking Zach Wilson under two minutes to
play in the half.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Look at them go.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Although there is a single name that I am most
looking forward to saying in this highlight, and it is
Isaac tas law Zone, the third round ro out of Arkansas,
having a big preseason. He might have gone to Arkansas,
but that is a Michigan man born and bred with
his hands sown to slaw Jersey walking into the Lions
interview he signs with them, He's drafted in the third round,
(33:21):
and now it's just all Isaac Tislaw all the time
for catches for forty one yards. Lions to take a
twenty four to seventeen win. Brotney were drafted by the Lions,
who played five seasons there. You still followed them pretty closely.
I can imagine the big knock on the Lions right
now is the departure of both coordinators.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
They're going to be okay offensively.
Speaker 5 (33:40):
That's a tough blow.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
You know, you lose a guy like Ben Johnson, who's
you know, everybody favored for the last three years the
next head coach somewhere, and he ended up in Chicago.
I would be more concerned if the Lions were dealing
with a young quarterback and had a young quarterback at
the helm. The fact that Jarrett Golf has been there
for a little bit now, it's played in the league
(34:02):
long enough to understand he has full grasp of that
offense and what I also like as well. And sometimes
we saw this in Philadelphia where they dropped off when
they lost both their coordinators. But they the Lions hired
from within, right, so the system's not going to change
that much, and again with a veteran quarterback, they should
be Okay. Now, is their window closing? Maybe? You know,
(34:24):
two years ago they lost a three touchdown lead to
San Francisco and then they lost at home last year
to the Commanders, so you wonder if that window's closing.
But they got enough young stars on that team. I
think they can still compete at.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
A high level.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
I also think too, it has a Chiefs parallel because
they're the emotional drain that comes with being so close.
I actually think that Week eighteen Vikings Lions game, I
think emotionally spent that both of those teams into January.
So I think it has a lot to do with
how desperately the Lions and they want it for their
organization and the team in the city. But also it
just takes such a toll on these teams to get
(34:58):
to the point that they're at right now.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
That's a good point, absolutely, because it was for the division,
right and they both spent it out there, and obviously
the Lions blew out the Vikings, and the Vikings we
saw what happened to them. They went they went down.
But you may be right, they put so much into
that having home field all the way through and it
didn't pan out for you, so you wonder if they
can continue.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
All Right, there's athletes and then there's multi sport athletes.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Okay, if you just play the single sport for this
purpose of the story, your peasants.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Okay, if you play, if you played two or more
than you are gods.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
And that is what Rodney Pete is.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Okay at USC football and baseball, Rodney, correct me if
I'm wrong. Drafted four different times in the Major League
Baseball Draft.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Yes, it never took the bait.
Speaker 5 (35:44):
Never took the bait.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
Yeah, once out of high school, twice in college, and
then one after my rookie year, actually by the Detroit Tigers.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
They said please leave the NFL and kome Bacia. But
it never took it.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
H But that doesn't mean that you don't stay actively
engaged in the game at the point where a couple
months ago something happened to you.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
In a Dodgers game, Yes, Dodgers opener in Tokyo. We
were fortunate enough to go to the game. I was
sitting in the second row and fal ball came.
Speaker 11 (36:08):
My way, take my way, and my natural reaction was
to catch it. I did not know I was that
close to Max Munsey as he was trying to catch
it as well. Oh when I saw him, I was like, oh,
(36:30):
that wasn't me. I put it by my back because
my wife looked at.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
Me, like, what the hell are you doing?
Speaker 4 (36:37):
You just interrupted or interfered with Max Munsey catching the ball?
Speaker 5 (36:40):
What are you doing?
Speaker 3 (36:41):
Oh my god, Holly.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
Ronnie listen.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
I grew up a Cubs fan. Did you immediately go,
oh my god? I went Steve Bartman. I just parted myself.
Speaker 4 (36:51):
I did because I remember that very well, and I
was like, oh no, and thank god they got out
of that inning and didn't have a big inning after that.
But the looks I got, and then they had to
show the video. So I was underneath Max's glove.
Speaker 9 (37:04):
I did not.
Speaker 5 (37:05):
I did not. Why did you have a glove, Rodney?
Speaker 4 (37:08):
They provided everybody with gloves in that section, believe it
or no. Yeah, yeah, I wasn't like the little kid
that brings his glothes.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
They just didn't realize that it was Rodney
Speaker 6 (37:17):
Peet with the glove.
