Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Welcome to Good Morning Football.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
It is Monday, July twenty first, I'm Sarah Walsh, joined
in La by Cynthia Freeland.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
And man'so very going on.

Speaker 4 (00:21):
It's over God, it's so cold over there.

Speaker 5 (00:24):
What Oh, it's so cold over there.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
West, Poor West Wilson, that's what it is.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
That's the only air conditioning we have provided for poor
West out there. It has broken. He is powering through this.
Man is an athlete. He's going to hang with us.
He's also going to drop ten pounds by the end
of the show, because that's what West is dealing.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
With in New York. It's GMFB on a Monday. Let's go.

Speaker 5 (01:05):
Football.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Welcome to GMFB.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Look at his literally and TV terms called a cold open,
and that is really unfortunate for Wes Wilson out there
and Kyle Brand's New York studio where Kyle did not
leave the air conditioning on, and so we appreciate. Look, hey, Wes,
in all fairness, training camp is about to start, and
we're told that you can't like complain and complain about
how hot it is because we get it. It's hot everywhere,

(01:29):
so I'm not saying the same applies. But we appreciate
you powering through because there was a point in the
last hour where I looked over and I'm like, man,
he's like wiping his head off a lot. Is Wes okay?
This isn't what you signed up for.

Speaker 6 (01:42):
West?

Speaker 2 (01:42):
I'm sorry, No, it's all good.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
I've felt very seen in the last two segments.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
So I fel uh that gets okay.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
You're going to be seen a lot more because that
that shirt is getting so through.

Speaker 6 (01:57):
So I'm not sure.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
If Wes is going to be wearing a shirt by
the you know what, we need ratings, Wes, no problem,
don't worry about it. Let's let's get to our lead.
I didn't even introduce anybod else. Sinct freelands with us
man Tito. I'm Sarah walshon for Jamie Earl. I'm sorry,
we just we felt so bad for West out there.
I just wanted to give some context to.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
What he was doing. Let's go to lead block.

Speaker 5 (02:17):
Let's go to it.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
This is Cynthia's lead block, I should say, because it's
her line. They open training camp on Sunday, coming off
a disappointing end of last season. I'm sorry, Cynthia, I
know it hurts, is what happened. The defense absolutely decimated
by injuries. This morning within the last hour, head coach
Dan Campbell asked if those injuries would change the way
their mindset is coming into twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Here's what he said.

Speaker 7 (02:43):
I've got a little thing on my board. Man, don't
you know you can't let anything sway you know your
identity or what you want to become. Man, you can't
let the fear of injury change the way you prepare.
And doesn't mean you're not being smart, you're not reading
the data. Is there something we need to and so
I so No, I'm not changing much. We're going to

(03:05):
do things very much like we've done for the last
four years because it's led to success for us, and
we play a certain style of football and we got
to keep that. It's not easy to do, but you
have to do that.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
We live in this social media world right where there's
overreactions and for the longest time last season, the Lions
were the best team in football, and then the way
things fell apart at the end it was unbelievable and
now they have been sort of knocked off. So given
that the defending NFC North champs as they head into
this season, what do we make of them?

Speaker 8 (03:37):
Mantai Well, I think what people have been making of them.
As far as the departches of both coordinators, I think
they're making it a bigger deal than it is. I
think when you think about the two coordinators coming in.
Defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard, he goes with them for the
past four years. He has a linebacker coach, so he
understands number one, what's my personnel look like.

Speaker 5 (03:58):
He knows the players, he knows what they like.

Speaker 8 (04:01):
And number two, he was with that man, Aaron Glenn
for the past four years.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
He knows how to run that scheme.

Speaker 8 (04:06):
He knows what works, he doesn't know what, he knows
what doesn't work, and he knows the standard.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
To which they've been playing.

Speaker 8 (04:12):
And he has the same guys in that locker room,
in that linebacker room that he's had for the past
four years. Offensive coordinator though John Moreton past two years,
he was in Denver. Before that, he was actually in Detroit,
so he does know a little bit about Dan Campbell
and what he expects, what Dan Campbell expects from that offense. Now,
I don't think there will be a lot of trick

(04:33):
plays that we've been used to seeing because Ben.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
Johnson was just a guru.

Speaker 8 (04:38):
Like it takes a special person to see a mistake
happen against the team you're about to go against and
formulate a whole trick play based off of that. For
him to see Jordan Love fumble the ball from the
snap and be like, oh man, we should do this,
Jared Golf, how about you.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
Try to stumble out of there?

Speaker 8 (04:54):
Can you even fumble the ball to make this trick
play happen. You're not going to get that. I don't
think you'll get that with John Morin as offensive coordinator.

Speaker 5 (05:03):
But this, this is the facts.

Speaker 8 (05:05):
Okay, this is Dan Campbell's team. He has an identity
like it reminds me of symbol from Lion King, Like
he ain't eating those shrubs and stuff with pomblent timone.
Like the guy knows that he's aligned. The guy knows
what he's used for. He knows what that pride of
that pack is used to doing. So no matter who's
the offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator, they have their identity,

(05:26):
they know what they believe in, and they know how
to play this game. And so to Dan Campbell's comments,
there's not a lot that's going to be changing for them, Pride.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Of Okamus, Michigan, what do you got?

Speaker 6 (05:36):
Well, I heard a little bit of emotion in Dan
Campbell's voice this morning with that presser, and part of
that is probably because they lost Levianzerique, who's a big
deal for them, and he's out with an acl for
the rest of the season. Now what they do get back, though,
is Aiden Hutchinson. So wh I'm looking at this team
and a number of other players because they were like nineteen.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
I knew we were going to show this video by
the way, Yeah, I knew we're going to show we
love this to Aiden Hutchinson video.

Speaker 6 (05:58):
Oh, I mean it's the best video out there. We
love it. But look, when I'm looking at the opportunity,
what I'm going to be looking for and I get
to go to Detroit next Monday, I'm so excited it'll
be on itc It'll be so much fun. I'm going
to be watching Aiden Hudginson to see how he looks
and renew watching how the o line operates together. Frank
greg Now not there. I'm really committed to this line
situation now. But Frank greg Now retiring is a big

(06:20):
loss for them, and that's actually something I'm more concerned
about than potentially switching coordinators. They've had more time to
adjust to the coordinators Louly. Frank greg Now is a huge,
a huge deal. So I just want to see what
of the actual changes that are there are going to
be impacting this team. This is the most competitive division
in the National Football League. I did a bunch of
win totals on it. The NFC North to me was

(06:43):
they sent three teams to the playoffs last year, with
the Packers being the third team, and they had eleven wins.
Like that's a ridiculous number. So when I'm looking at
the opportunity to succeed, it's going to be those thin margins.
So that's what I'm looking at.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
In the camp she heard a little Cynthia said she
heard a little emotion in Dan Campbell's voice, and I
was like, I don't know if I ever have not.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
Emotional.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
I think the loss of the Commanders, not that that
was an embarrassing loss, but certainly they were supposed.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
To win that game.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
It was in Detroit and the Commanders were a wild
card team. That's the type of loss that I think
can set back a lot of teams, but it can
also make some teams want it more. And I don't
picture a better coach in the NFL to channel a
loss like that and use it as fuel like Dan
Campbell would for the Detroit Lions heading into.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Twenty twenty five. So I just expect a minimal fall
off because.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Of an upset in the playoffs, and I would absolutely
pick them to win the NFC North.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
Again this year. I love I love Dan Campbell.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
Guys, I'm sorry, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
You don't have to apologize, but what do you what
are you apologizing for?

Speaker 6 (07:52):
That just actually made me like you wanted?

Speaker 2 (07:56):
In fairness, you have some issues with some I do?

Speaker 5 (07:58):
I do?

Speaker 6 (07:59):
I do have some smar ouses.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
Oh okay, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
ManTech was comparing the Dan Campbell to Sting being a lion,
and MY first thought was, lions do eat kneecaps as well,
so it all works out. Dan Campbell's a kneecap eating lion.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Running Back David Montgomery declared Sunday that twenty twenty five
would be a season of reckoning for the Lions after
falling short the last two years. So Campbell asked about
that this morning. Montgomery's you're a reckoning comment here is.

Speaker 7 (08:39):
Well, look, this is one of the things I talked
about in the meeting the other day, you know. And
it's just I think if we keep that type of mindset, man,
we're you know, we're after it's another year and we're
out to finish what we started. We're going to close
out some of these debts. That's got to be the attitude.
That's the mindset across the board every day in practice,

(09:01):
no matter who we play, no matter what people think, man,
we're going. And I just think it's it's a mindset,
that's all.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
When you hear Dan Campbell talk about that, what do
you think?

Speaker 6 (09:12):
I mean? I love the you know, the visualization for
a long time in a trade we like we've talked about,
we celebrated first downs like it was it was some
tough times, and then it was restore the roar they
always and then it was grit like they always have,
like a very good and very connected to the city
kind of theme. Further so, maybe that's their mantra this year. Right,
it's the year of reckoning. Maybe maybe that's what they

(09:34):
go with in you know, walking up Remember we were
in the tunnel. You know, they have all those like
graffiti up the tunnel and it's very cool and they
always put on it's just a very good, like connected environment.
And maybe the reckoning is the new environment that they
use this time.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
But Cynthia to that point, as someone who knows that
area obviously very well, you talk about how first downs
were something to be celebratd and then wins were something
to be celebrated. This fan base is different now though, right,
because you've gotten a taste and we were there for
that playoff game, and what that environment is now that
you've got tastes. This isn't about oh we just want
to be five hundred. Oh we just want to be
a little bit better. Oh we want to win the division.

(10:09):
That's no longer good enough there. And I love what
Dan Campbell said there about close out some of these debts.
I know, jumps on the reckoning thing. Closing out the debts.
I mean, I think it's shifted what is now considered
a success in Detroit.

Speaker 6 (10:24):
Oh, it has definitely shifted what's been a success. I
mean a lot of my friends who are fans were
talking about the end of last season, all the injuries
piling up. Obviously, the Minnesota game was a really happy
moment for Detroit fans, and then followed by the Washington
loss a little bit later, which was not so happy.
And ultimately you're looking at like the debts just means
to finish things right. I think they feel as though

(10:45):
they have unfinished business because they weren't playing with the
team that they had last year. They weren't playing Ben
Johnson stayed around last season because he believed in that
team so much. Aaron Glenn stayed around. They were getting
interviews two seasons ago, right, not just this season. So
when you're looking at closing out those debts, I think
it's that they the unfinished business that this city believes
that they have, and they know all of their fans

(11:06):
kind of are expecting that as well. I think most
of us are now thankful for what we got to
see last season, but I know I'm ready for a
little I'm ready for a little more, you know, read
for a little more.

Speaker 8 (11:15):
It's been amazing the growth and the progress which this
franchise has made to your point, Cynthia, you said there
was a time where you celebrated the first downs. Well
now they're celebrating fourth downs now, Like that just goes
to show the difference in the approach. But talking about
David Montgomery and Jamier Gibbs, Jamiir Gibbs came out and
said that he's had to learn different positions on the
football field, different whether I'm in a slot. So what

(11:38):
that tells me is this is going to be a
multi personnel offense, a multi personnel approach where there could
be possibilities where you have David Montgomery and Jamior Gibbs
in the game at the same time. What does that
do you guys watch if you ever had a game,
you don't see it on.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
TV because you don't really they don't really show it.

Speaker 8 (11:57):
But on the sideline defensively, there's always a guy that
holds a card up and it has twelve, twenty one,
twenty one different numbers and sometimes letters. That tells the
defense what personnel they're in. Now, when you're playing against
a team that looks like the Detroit Lions, where you
could have David Montgomery and Jimior gibbson there, you're guessing
you're guessing a lot. It reminds me of when Taysom

(12:19):
Hill to run into the huddle for the New Orleans Saints.
As a defense, you don't know is he going to
go wildcat, he's gonna line up at running back, he's
going to line up in tight end as receiver.

Speaker 5 (12:27):
You don't know until they break the huddle.

Speaker 8 (12:29):
So this is the type of approach that I think
John Morton is going to have for the Detroit Lions,
where there's going to be multiple personnels, multiple formation shifts, motions,
and that just puts your offense in a very advantageous
I used it again position when it comes to playing
this game and for defense, it just it's a big headache.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
We talked about celebrating first downs like a few years
ago and kind of maybe how that underdog mentality has evolved.
I think it's okay to keep the underdog mentality even
if you're making the playoffs, make the NFC Championship. I
mentioned Dan Campbell's kind of personality being carried throughout the
team for so many different reasons. I think keep the
Detroit underdog mentality that we're the underdogs and we have

(13:11):
something to prove every single week, and I think that's
good for them.

Speaker 4 (13:15):
I don't think it works for every single team. I
think you guys will.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Hate this, But as a Chiefs fan, I thought that
we were the underdogs for a long time until it
kind of.

Speaker 6 (13:24):
I know not only listen, we only won nine we
only won the division nine times.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
The Chiefs didn't want a playoff game until I was
a junior in college. And I still it takes a
long time to like really sponge that mindset out of
your franchise in your city.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
I think it's healthy.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Things are okay now, it's not.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Bad, but uh, I think it's okay to even just
keep that mindset even if maybe that's not the case.
And I think Dan Campbell's got to do it.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Is it your year reckoning now west because you didn't
win a Super Bowl this year?

Speaker 4 (13:59):
Uh? Yeah, I guess it is.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
And just we're over adversity, like I said, all over
the all over.

Speaker 6 (14:06):
The board time sponge all around, like you could use one,
you are one, Like we're gonna yeah, maybe bring out that.

Speaker 8 (14:14):
Shirt there, I think to West Point though, you know,
getting back to the subject about just keeping that underdog mentality.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
Not only does Dan Campbell have that.

Speaker 8 (14:22):
But if you look at their player players, I mean
a Monroe Saint Brown is the definition of an underdog.

Speaker 5 (14:26):
I mean when you when you memorize.

Speaker 8 (14:28):
All the receivers that got drafted before you, that's an underdog.
Pinay Schuel has the underdog mentality of you can pay
him as much money as you want, He's still gonna
pancake guys. You know David Montgomery, he always feels like
he never got the best shot when he was at
Chicago Bears. Now he's over there and he's constantly running
over people, getting angry, angry run scepters like that's that's
the kind of mentality and you could go defensively, Brian Branch.

(14:50):
That's the mentality that this team has, not only from
the head coach but also the players. So again to
what we I think we all said the same thing.
It's just going to continue to to follow suit with
what they've done the past four years, and I'm.

Speaker 5 (15:02):
Excited for it.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Tom Brady had an under dog mentality when he won
ring after ring after ring after ring. I mean he
never let it go where he was drafted. I mean
he lives and dies by that underdog mentality. Because again
you do what you have to do to get motivated,
and I think until they win a Super Bowl. For
more on the Lions, though, let's continue this Lion's conversation
when to bring Ann Rappidport onto the show again? And Cynthia,

(15:24):
you touched on this a little bit. They did receive
some bad news regarding their defensive line.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
What more can you tell us, Ian?

Speaker 9 (15:30):
Yeah, training camp barely even started, the Detroit Lions already
lost one of their starting defenders for the season, Levi
and Zourique, who signed a one year, four million dollar
deal this passed offseason with Detroit Lions, was expected to
be counted on in the middle of that defense to
provide a little bit of a rush and just be
disruptive as he always has been throughout his career. Suffered

(15:51):
a torn acl and is now out for this season.
Dan Cambill clarified today that based on the timing, there's
no chance he is able to return at any point
in the postseasons. He is now for sure out for
the season. Injuries suffered say about a month a month
and a half ago ahead surgery, and seem originally like
it was going to be something that would knock him

(16:12):
out for the season.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
They found the ACL tear.

Speaker 9 (16:14):
He is now out, leaving the lines a big hole
in their defense. They did have a little bit better
news yesterday. Ennis regustral Than, one of their young corners,
someone who's going to play a lot for them this year,
left practice with a chest injury, just a chess contusion.
He should be fine, probably misses a couple of days. Meanwhile,
for the Kansas City Chiefs, their camp is now just

(16:35):
beginning and they have spent a lot of money.

Speaker 5 (16:38):
Once again, one.

Speaker 9 (16:38):
Of their own really good players, Trace Smith, was the
first one to get a deal. Yesterday it was George
Carloftis's turn. He gets a four year, ninety three million
dollars max deal eighty eight million dollars at its base,
sixty two million dollars guaranteed. And remember, George Carloftis came
in with the Kansas City Chiefs as a at a

(16:59):
time when they're moving on from Tyreek Hill. Wanted to
use those draft picks to rebuild their defense.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
They absolutely have.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
He is a huge reason why.

Speaker 9 (17:08):
And now he's gotten paid as you should.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
Ian Rappaport in that chair, I told you all day long,
because he is back on Insiders.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
They're all back.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
He'll be with Judy Batista tonight seven Eastern. He's going
to be out at training camp. I think we might
be together in Nashville maybe, Ian. I don't know if
If that's Ian, whereabouts are a big secret. But I'll
see you later this week, hopefully on the road.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
We'll see you tonight. Thanks Ian.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
The Chiefs are you listening, Wes, because I know it's
a real underdog story out there? The end of the city,
third straight super Bowl last season. Ah gosh, they're looking
to become just a second team in NFL history to
make it.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Poor in a row. I mean, what a bunch of
underdogs we're.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
Gonna hear from head coach Andy Reid on the Chiefs
road to redemption?

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Did West writen his teeth? What are we doing here? Mann?

Speaker 4 (17:53):
Well?

Speaker 5 (17:53):
What are we doing? Well? We need some mac over
there at West.

Speaker 8 (17:56):
But we are playing a game a little later in
the show, Cynthia, what do you.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
Got for us?

Speaker 6 (18:02):
I mean, I have a choice, a game free rehab
to choose between two things, and we'll see who can
tell who the wire is and who the outlier.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
So math or gut no math mouse out as.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
A tip for me at restaurants. I can't do that.
I can't do suple.

Speaker 6 (18:16):
Addition, good money.

Speaker 5 (18:31):
Super Bowl fifty nine.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
Here we go.

Speaker 5 (18:33):
Holmes roll out, looking.

Speaker 10 (18:35):
Firing, intercepting picked off October Desine gives.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
A pump, Desine yes and touch down.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
Holds us back.

Speaker 10 (18:45):
He fires over the bottle on a turn spent an
It's intercepted by black bomb purchase.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
Plenty of times.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
He look, he fighted, he completes it.

Speaker 8 (18:54):
Touch down, hurts going tap turn off to the ty swift.

Speaker 5 (19:02):
Down, touchdown.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
Wow. So here's my Wolves.

Speaker 5 (19:06):
Once he got left.

Speaker 10 (19:07):
Plus, you're a go, dad, Eagles have it.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
It's a very difficult feeling if you're Patrick.

Speaker 8 (19:15):
Not exactly the way that he thought it would go
tonight for the second time, the Pigs LIBORTI told me,
just headed to Philadelphia, Eagles fly and Super Bowl fifty nine.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
Wes Wilson born in Columbia, Missouri. We just wanted to
get your reaction to what we just saw.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
It's sad you one of the worst part.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
I took my dad to the game and it was
supposed to be a beautiful day between father and son,
and at the end of the night, I felt bad
for making him fly to New Orleans, but so you know,
we'll be we'll be fine.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
That wasn't a fun watch.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Well, now you've really turned the tables because we were like, oh,
we're gonna come out, We'll get his reaction, and you're like,
I took my dad and it was sad, and now
like now I feel bad that we even.

Speaker 6 (19:58):
Did that to us. So good, I know I need good.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
You know what, I feel bad I did that.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
I still disagree with you if you're just turning to now,
Wes said, you know, in Kansas City, we're kind of
the underdogs, and I'm like, whoaha, whoa West Like now, yeah, okay, yeah,
well you no longer the underdogs. You haven't been for
a long time. Welcome back to GMFB. The Chiefs are
obviously looking forward to getting back on the field after

(20:23):
what we just saw yesterday. They locked up George car
loftus to a new deal, and Andy Reid talked to
the media about what his.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Message to the team is right now.

Speaker 10 (20:31):
Expectations are always are always high, and that's a plus,
and the guys that have been here have earned that
right to have it that way. But at the same time,
you know you've got to maintain that and even strive
to be better. I mean, the AFC West is a
tough conference, and it's not get any worse, that's for sure.

(20:53):
I mean, these guys, it's good coaching and they've got
good players. So just that alone is a great challenge
for us.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
There is a notion that the Eagles figured out the
Chiefs cheat code in the Super Bowl, figured things out.
Now other teams can do the same and figure out
what's going on with them. Wes, We're going to start
with you, and it's okay to say that your bias
Cynthia does it with the Lions. Who you think that
what the Eagles did, what you witnessed?

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Did they break the dynasty?

Speaker 1 (21:20):
Oh my goodness. How many times have everyone at this
table had to like have this conversation. No, they definitely haven't.
I think Actually, I was on the show two or
three months ago and my prediction for the twenty twenty
five season was the Chiefs would lose a regular season
game and we would all be here Monday saying are

(21:40):
the Chiefs broken?

Speaker 4 (21:41):
Did X team? You know break the Chiefs?

Speaker 1 (21:43):
And I take it back to like, I think the
first time this started was at least that I remember
Chiefs lost a regular season game.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
To the Colts in like twenty twenty two.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
It ended with the Mahomes pick, so it felt like
symbolic yep right here, and there was.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
Like a bad Chris Jones penalty.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
I don't know, but this like was when I remember
people being like, the Chiefs are done, They've been broken,
they'll never recover. Like believe it or not, teams, good
teams can lose games.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
And it doesn't mean they're broken.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
And I just think we've had this conversation at least
nine to ten times now that we can all be
mature and move on from it.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
So I'm going to say, no, were the Chiefs exposed
in the Super Bowl? Were the Chiefs exposed in the
Super Bowl? Absolutely?

Speaker 1 (22:30):
But if anyone's proven that they can retool, you know,
in off seasons time, I do believe that it is
Indy reading the Chiefs.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
So even just this headline reading it.

Speaker 8 (22:42):
Well to your point, West, I think the only thing
that was exposed in the Super Bowl was their inability
to block.

Speaker 5 (22:50):
Like that's that's about it.

Speaker 8 (22:51):
And honestly, if you put anybody back there, it doesn't
matter who it is. And that quarterback doesn't have time
to throw the ball, that's going to be the result
every single time. So I think when it comes to
this question of did the Eagles break the Chiefs dynasty, like,
it's kind of hilarious that we even us in that
word break because you're talking about a team that's been
to five of the last six Super Bowls like this,

(23:14):
this is.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
A dynasty that's been through.

Speaker 8 (23:16):
The seven straight AFC championships, Like, that's what the Chiefs
team has done. So when we're talking about breaking this
and breaking that, this is a conversation that we weren't
having after the twenty twenty one Super Bowl lost to
the Bucks where they lost thirty one to nine. They
lost by twenty two points in that game. In that game,
like they got blown out in this game, but they

(23:37):
only lost by eighteen.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
To your point, I don't feel like that that was
but we didn't.

Speaker 5 (23:41):
Ye, Yes, we didn't have that conversation when they lost.

Speaker 8 (23:44):
Down there in Temple to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and
Tom Brady. So when you're talking about the Chiefs, when
you're talking about Andy Reid, when you talk about that
man right there, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. You also
have to keep in consideration that Isaiah Pacheco was out
for a big number of the year, and oh yeah,
Roshie Rice, who was as a matter of fact, they're
number one wide receiver, was out since like Week four

(24:06):
five against the Chiefs when he got hurt across the
street with that knee injury. So this is a team
that so many revolving parts. It was so many different lineups.
You signed d Hop off the street, you signed a
running back off the street, you signed.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
All of these guys.

Speaker 8 (24:19):
You bring Juju Smith Schuster back, Like, this is a
team that had to constantly be filling holes and bringing
guys in to hopefully put a team out there. Yet
they still made it to the Super Bowl. That they
still beat the Bills in the playoffs, and they still
do things that need to get them to the dance.
And this is the thing that's scary about the Chiefs.
You can say whatever you want to say about them
from week one to seventeen, but if they get into

(24:41):
the playoffs, they get very dangerous. And they happen to
be again at five of the last last six Super Bowls.
So to say that the Eagles broke them or broke
the dynasty. We'll have to see guys when we kick
off this season. Then, even when we kick off the season,
just wait until week seventeen because if they get in, there's.

Speaker 5 (25:01):
No telling what's going to happen.

Speaker 6 (25:03):
With any read in the chief I'm going to give
a really mature response here. According to West and say,
the Eagles had the personnel and the game plan to
exploit what we saw was the weakness that we pointed
out in every single pregame show ahead of the seat
of the Super Bowl. Was the problem the left side
of the offensive line. And what did they do this offseason?
Not only did they draft a guy in Josh Simmons,

(25:24):
but they also in free agency Brett Beach and company
brought in a guy named Jalen Moore. Jalen Moore. He
played behind left tackle Trent Williams. Trent Williams pretty good,
you think, Trent? Yeah, pretty good? Hall of Famer, Right,
So when you're looking at the opera.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
And alignment, listen, I had alignment in on.

Speaker 6 (25:40):
I went back up alignment on this side. So I
need a little extra credit for that. But ultimately, what
this Chiefs team does exceptionally well is they retool and
they figure out when you have fifteen back there, you
are always not to be counted out. You are always
in the game. Fifteen is just a huge deal. But
and now you get the right protection for him and
you give Andy Reid. We talked about Andy Reid coming

(26:03):
off of BUYE. Well let's talk about Andy Reid between seasons.
So I think that that is just like you said,
the retooling that is that is important.

Speaker 8 (26:10):
Well real quick with Andy Reid, he's one of the greatest,
if not the greatest coach to play. Remember, Andy Reid
is a West Coast style offensive background, but he also
over the years has implemented some RPO, some run pass options,
some spread offense. So this is a coach that every
year looks at his his tools that he has on
his roster and says, how can I how can I

(26:31):
switch things up? He's not afraid to adapt, and I
think that's what makes Andy Reid so so dangerous, and
that's why you can't break this guy. That guy's going
to figure out how to fix this thing. He's going
to find the right tool in the right system. And
so I think that's that's something to look forward to.
I'm heading into this year.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Missouri. Man, you take the last word.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
I'm just gonna say, I'm so proud of this group
for all being mature and realizing what the truth is
when it comes to headlines and dumb questions after teams
lose the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Yeah, they just got my ear.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
They said, it's the producers, the producers.

Speaker 8 (27:00):
The guy in the ear is a big egos fan's
chiming in.

Speaker 5 (27:05):
He keeps chiming in about these egos. Guys.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
Welcome back to GMFB.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
The Cowboys are reporting to training camp today as they're
going to take the field tomorrow to begin workouts. Optimism
always high at the start of the season in Dallas,
Guard Tyler Smith fields, this could be the year the
Cowboys bring home another Lombardy. What are your expectations for
this football team?

Speaker 4 (27:28):
Super Bowl champions?

Speaker 5 (27:30):
As always expectation.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
So yeah, I think that's a realistic goal.

Speaker 4 (27:33):
I think it is a realistic goal because we can
win the Super Bowl?

Speaker 5 (27:37):
Why not?

Speaker 7 (27:38):
Why can't we win?

Speaker 4 (27:39):
You do you think it's henrialist?

Speaker 5 (27:40):
Do you think the roster is in place to do that?

Speaker 4 (27:42):
I think it is in place to do that, Yes, sir,
I like that answer.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
Then Seattle the Seahawks. It released tight end Noah Fan
up for three seasons with the team. Fan acquired by
Seattle as part of that Russell Wilson trade with Denver
in twenty twenty two. The Veterans tight end had just
five touchdowns in three seasons with the Seahawks. And NFL
Network insider Ian Rapaport has the contract tails on Von
Miller's recent signing with the Commanders. Ian's reporting it's a

(28:08):
one year deal. We're six point one million with a
chance to make ten and a half million in incentives,
and Miller spent the previous three seasons with the Bills.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
Still to come.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
Here on GMFB, Cynthia has already been crunching the number.
She loves numbers to help you get ready for your
fantasy But I don't know what you're laughing at, Cynthia.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
You do you love the numbers. She loves math. She's
putting us to the test by taking a.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Look at some outliers that may help you win the championship.

Speaker 11 (28:34):
I don't know what she's laughing at, Cynthia.

Speaker 5 (28:48):
Good morning football.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
We are back here on GMFE.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
Fantasy draft season is almost here, so we're playing a
game of fantasy Outliers with Cynthia Freeland, tell us what's
about to happen.

Speaker 6 (29:00):
So what we did was we took a bunch of
interesting notes from my model, so I ran the projections
of all these players. So ultimately, what you're doing is
you're going to be looking to see, Okay, what's the
potential for which For example, if it's a wide receiver,
which routes they're running, they're red zone percentage, all of
these things, and we're gonna you know, we made them
things like receiving yards or touchdowns. You get to guess
which one's going to be more really easy. So are

(29:22):
they outlier or is it a liar?

Speaker 5 (29:24):
Oh? Okay, I like it.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
Let's go, let's roast.

Speaker 6 (29:27):
All right, you're ready for the first one?

Speaker 5 (29:28):
Yes? Ready?

Speaker 6 (29:29):
Okay? Who will have more touchdowns this season? Melik Neighbors
or Marvin Harrison Manti.

Speaker 8 (29:35):
I'm going with my Leak Neighbors. I like Mylak Neighbors
on this over Martin Harrison Junior. The tight end over
the Arizona is the main guy.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
I'm going to link with Manti.

Speaker 6 (29:42):
See this is where the gut versus the math is different.
Marvin Harrison Junior has a higher projection for me, in
large part because I think the routes that he runs.
You're right that he does have a nice he has
a nice tight end there and Train McBride. However, when
you're looking at his opportunity and in the division he
plays in, remember the NFC West did they.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
Get to play the NFC.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
South and the AFC South. There's more opportunities for them
to score touchdouts there.

Speaker 5 (30:03):
We got to remember it.

Speaker 8 (30:04):
We gotta remember now on Cynthy, I want to go goveret.

Speaker 6 (30:06):
Now, by the way, it's eight for Harrison Junior and
seven for neighbors. So it's not like so different, right,
Oh it's totally different.

Speaker 5 (30:13):
Yeah, yeah, okay, I like that.

Speaker 6 (30:14):
Yep, Okay. The next one who will have more touchdowns
this season? Courtland Sutton or cd Lamb. Boom boom, Wait
this is more touchdowns touchdowns.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
I'm gonna go with ceed Lamb. I like Ceedee Lamb.
I drafted him last year. He did me. I'm gonna
stay with Ceede Lamb.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
Right, I don't want to copy you. I'm going to
change my answer after this one. If we do the
same thing and I'm going CD Wes, you be the
tiebreaker here, what do you got.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
I'm gonna go Courtland because we mentioned earlier that CD
has to deal with Pickens on the other side of him.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
Now, so let's go Courtland Sutton here.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
Courtland Sutton is the answer. Why Because when you're looking
at Sean McVay is not Sean Okay. Sean Payton is
one of my favorite coaches to track. He has some
really interesting he's got a new tight end, Evan Ingram.
All of these incredible things to me. Courtland Sutton, red
zone threat. It is about red zone opportunities. Here, Ceede
Lamb more catches, Courtland Sutton, more touchdowns, eight to seven. Again,

(31:06):
again it's close.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
Okay, we're wrong with's the next one?

Speaker 6 (31:09):
Okay? Did you want to just say something about that?

Speaker 5 (31:11):
No, I want Wes to go first because I want
to insight.

Speaker 6 (31:14):
All right, Well, this one's gonna be interesting. So we've
got who's gonna have more total yards? Total yards? Total
yards by Jon Robinson.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
West West Okay, well he, I mean a year ago,
he was one game away from breaking the.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
So this has to be a pump fake. I guess
I'm gonna go bijon and not trust my gut.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Okay, I'm gonna go because he thinks it's a pump thing.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Yeah, I get it. And now we're just playing games
in our head.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
So I'm gonna go Saque because I'm going, Oh, Cynthia
wants us to think it's not Saque, but it's one.

Speaker 5 (31:45):
I think it's.

Speaker 8 (31:46):
I mean, it's a layup. I'm just sometimes I'll make
it complicated. I'm just gonna go Saquon. He's gonna get
the ball.

Speaker 6 (31:51):
Well, Wes do you take this one? My projection here
for Bijon, I know, in large part because I don't
think that they're like I think they have to can
serve him just a little bit more. While he is
very likely to have a ton of yards, Jean is
just a little bit more. It's when you look at
this total yard difference, you're gonna be like, oh, it's
like fifty or sixty yards different. However, my point here

(32:13):
is to reinforce the fact that you want to be
looking at Jean Robinson in that same echelon as Saque
Barkley when you're drafting your fantasy running back, so that
I'm really just trying to tell you that make sure
you're looking at him just as equally.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
So you know what Manti did wrong there? He just
ran the wrong Manti algorithm. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
You know when you run your algorithm like Cynthia and
your algorithm isn't right, Like that's obviously what happened to you.

Speaker 8 (32:34):
Yeah, my algorithm is common sense. Like, come on, a
guy always broke the record. We're gonna go with Saquon
like we're gonna roll. Yeah, okay, so let's keep Rowland Cidy.

Speaker 6 (32:41):
Okay, we got all right more receiving yards. Terry McLaurin
or Garrett Wilson West.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
Oh, a bigger QB question in New York. So I'm
gonna go. I'm gonna go Terry, just to flip the
script here, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
I'm gonna go. Let's see like a resurgence for the
New York Jets. I'll go Garrett Wilson.

Speaker 8 (33:02):
I'm gonna go Garrett Wilson as well. I think just
Fields and going to Ohio State sit there at a
game of that. Look I'm wrong, sure, get the wrong.
I'm gonna make it with Garrett Wilson. I like Garrett
Wilson and Justin Fields, Ohio State, that connection going up
to New York.

Speaker 6 (33:17):
Well, I mean Listen, we all love Ohio State here,
everyone on this board does.

Speaker 5 (33:20):
But I don't love Ohio State. You don't have a.

Speaker 6 (33:24):
I like Brian Day whatever. But the answer to me,
by just a slim little margin is actually if he
gets paid and he plays Terry McLaurin in large part
because of which, guys, just.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
Go with me once the promised land.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (33:37):
No, I also think. I also think when I'm looking
at this opportunity to hear, I think there's a little
bit more rushing yards in that jet offense in general.
So that's where the Terry McLaurin situation comes in. All right,
you ready for the next one? Yes, Okay, let's remix things.
We're gonna have three quarterbacks here. Who will have more
passing yards? Drake May, Caleb Williams or Michael Pennox Junior?
Extra points for like the full order?

Speaker 4 (33:58):
West No, I just went first twice in a row.

Speaker 8 (34:02):
First, ladies first, then Sericahea, Yeah, here we go.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
What is it more passing yards?

Speaker 6 (34:06):
Ye, passing yards?

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Let's go.

Speaker 6 (34:10):
You just pick one or you can put them in order.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
Whatever.

Speaker 6 (34:12):
Extra points for order.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
I'm gonna go, Caleb.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Wes, what you got, I'm gonna go Drake May, Caleb Williams, Pinnix,
like in the in.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
The order that it's showing us.

Speaker 8 (34:26):
I'm gonna go Caleb, Drake and Pennix, Caleb, Ben Johnson.
Ben Johnson hasn't had a pastor under four thousand yards.

Speaker 5 (34:34):
I'm going with Kleb. Tell me I'm right, Cynthia.

Speaker 6 (34:38):
I feel like maybe West likes people who have the
first letter of C in their name, because it's Caleb.
It's Drake May first, then Caleb Williams, and sorry it's backwards,
Drake May's first. Then we got Michael Pennix, then we
have Caleb to in there.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
I'm totally wrong, totally wrong. I know me and West
got da page here.

Speaker 6 (34:56):
Look when I'm looking at Drake May's opportunity, it's just
a huge change in that old line. The old line
makes all of the difference. And you know, when you
get a guy like Will Campbell, I'm really committed to this, Bin,
I'm really committed.

Speaker 8 (35:08):
Do you think with Mike Rifle though they might be
more run heavy if.

Speaker 6 (35:12):
They had the personnel that I thought would dictate that.
I think their personnel dictates a little bit more of
the passing. I think Drake May himself uses his legs
for about four hundred yards. Oh, I think he's the
the Diggs is in the.

Speaker 4 (35:22):
Bad edition either.

Speaker 5 (35:23):
Yeah, Hunter, Henry is.

Speaker 6 (35:26):
There, Henry Midter. Henry is like sneaky, one of my
favorite tight end picks for this year. Sneaky. I don't
want anyone to know, so maybe may all.

Speaker 5 (35:33):
One don't tell anybody. Just there you go.

Speaker 6 (35:38):
All right, let's go with quarterback rushing yards. Let's go
Kyler Murray or Justin Field. This is a good one.

Speaker 5 (35:46):
Let's go Wes.

Speaker 1 (35:49):
I'll go Jay Fields just given the uncertainty and Kyler Murray.
We just had Marvin Harrison Junior up so that we
think they're going to be throwing the ball. I guess
a little more. Let's go Jay Fields.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
I'm going Kyler Murray. I like Kyler Murray. I'm I'm
ready for Kyler Murray to to have a big one.

Speaker 8 (36:03):
I like Justin Field. I mean, the reason why I
like Jessephilds is because Wes has been right a.

Speaker 5 (36:07):
Lot of times.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
I haven't been right the whole game.

Speaker 5 (36:12):
I want to stay on screen this segment, So go ahead.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
What do we have.

Speaker 5 (36:16):
It's just I'm on the board, guys, I'm on the.

Speaker 6 (36:20):
Little bit part in large part because sometimes the adjustment
and what we've seen from quarterbacks who tend to use
their legs, the adjustment period we've seen historically, sometimes they
tend to use their legs a little bit more in
their next place as well. So I'm looking here and
it's not that significantly different.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
I think they do.

Speaker 6 (36:36):
Pass more for the Cardinals as well. So basically me
and Western the same page here again, and Mantai right,
and man Ti, you kill me.

Speaker 5 (36:44):
I know it's new. I just got the first one right,
but you.

Speaker 6 (36:46):
Copied him, so even admitted that you did so hard,
still counts.

Speaker 8 (36:50):
At least he's still right, right.

Speaker 6 (36:52):
Okay, So we're doing a little like former Detroit situation,
David Montgomery or DeAndre Swift, who's going to have more
rushing touchdowns?

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Wes, you got so I can copy you, because remember
Ben Johnson. You know we want to go.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
DeAndre Swift because again we mentioned two running back backfield
in Detroit. So let's go DeAndre Swift and see if
he gets more.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
Harry's in the red zone.

Speaker 6 (37:19):
Go ahead, Sarah, you're so excited about this.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
I'm gonna go DeAndre swift.

Speaker 8 (37:26):
There we go, Sarah, I was gonna we don't go
through in a row. I'm gonna go David Montgomery. This
is probably rushing touchdowns. Okay, he's the red zone threat.
He's going to be getting the ball down there for
that offense, and it's a new identity.

Speaker 5 (37:41):
Put JAMR.

Speaker 8 (37:41):
Gibbs out at slot running a bunch of jet motions,
give the David Montgomery the ball on inside zones and
all that that good stuff, and touchdown.

Speaker 6 (37:48):
Seven to six I have. David Montgomery was one.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
I don't think I've gotten one right, I'm killing it.

Speaker 6 (37:53):
If you were to look at me, I've been trying
to help you cheat, but you have not been looking
at me. So if you're not cheating, you're not trying.
You know, you're a baseball family.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
You should know that.

Speaker 6 (38:02):
Let's go look. But when it is, it's all about
that red zone threat, the to the two running back sets.
I think, like, you know what, what, we play a
lot of duo. We like little you know, but that's football.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Listen.

Speaker 6 (38:17):
I believe that highlight they just showed was exactly so hey,
you know, we're we're all in sync here on Good
Morning Football.

Speaker 5 (38:23):
I love it.

Speaker 6 (38:23):
All right, so one more so tight ends here, Let's
go with Trey McBride or Brock Bowers for touchdowns. Now,
remember touchdowns, touchdowns, touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
Go ahead, wes Uh, I'm gonna go Brock because they
can throw the ball to Marvin Harrison in the red zone.

Speaker 4 (38:43):
Give me Brock.

Speaker 8 (38:44):
I'm gonna go trade because I haven't gotten any right,
I'm gonna go Brock Bowers.

Speaker 4 (38:48):
Trade.

Speaker 5 (38:48):
Mcgride is really good. Yards have to catch.

Speaker 8 (38:50):
Matter of fact, the number one tight end the yards
I have to catch in the NFL. However, the touchdowns,
I got to give the Brock.

Speaker 6 (38:55):
Okay, so to me, Brock has more rushing capabilities on
that team this year, they'll still use him quite a
bit the end zone, a little bit more red zone.
I know that we have Marvin Harrison Junior as well.
I think they're going to have to scroll up. It's
all passing. More passing. If you were rushing arts for Kyler,
more passing, Arizona Cardinals offense, Trade McBride, more touchdowns. Remember

(39:16):
Rock Bowers incy the end zone as much as we
would have thought last season, despite all of those yards
he wrecked up in those crazy catches that came out
of absolutely nowhere. I'm not saying you'll have more catches.
I'm just saying he'll have take more trips to the
events words end zone. That's just touchdowns right.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
There on the street.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
I'd like to end on a winner.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
So we'll finish that segment right now, because I got
that one right. That's all you need to know about.
We were so happy to have Wes Wilson in studio
with us, and the first segment we did it was great.
And then we start noticing that Wes was getting really red.
He was sweating profusely. We were like, what's going on
out there? And what Wes wasn't told is coming.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
On the show includes air conditioning, not New York. It
doesn't West. But what a trooper because this was Wes
and all the commercial breaks. Thank you.

Speaker 4 (40:07):
Who put that together.

Speaker 6 (40:10):
I think it was Mantai. Actually the same guys who
put the chief stuff to get it.

Speaker 4 (40:15):
That's who wants to wow that star. At least it
was worth it. We got something out of it.

Speaker 5 (40:20):
You're a chat bro, you are.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
A chat We're about to get something else out of
you being on the show.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
This is Cynthia and I are so excited about this
segment because this is about you got to give the.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
People what they want.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
West, You're in Summerhouse and Cynthia is a rabid follower
of all things summer House, and so you're revealing what
your favorite Summerhouse moments.

Speaker 6 (40:36):
Yeah, like, I think it was season nine last season,
so well, I added a fourth one because weston no
Ac was actually that rose to the occasion of it.
Number three was Carl when he was called the lemur.
You know you're at the pirate party. That was kind
of a crazy one of yoga instructor called him a lemur.
Apparently that was some some flirtation.

Speaker 4 (40:54):
We ran into her the other day.

Speaker 5 (40:56):
She popped back up.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
I'll explain later.

Speaker 6 (40:59):
I can't wait. Okay. Number two Sierra, She's a star,
She's a seat all this past year. I love I'm
a big zerf Amanda as well too.

Speaker 4 (41:08):
I love the pass.

Speaker 2 (41:10):
West said she's the best. Oh, I think the pass
like you weren't like.

Speaker 6 (41:16):
But the number one favorite one I'm actually gonna be copying.
This was snooze Fest because everybody needs to have a
pajama party. That's incredible. I think that even like launched
Page's career and a next career move into PJS.

Speaker 4 (41:27):
So it was it was pretty special.

Speaker 6 (41:29):
That's such a good party idea, Sarah, We're gonna have
a sleepover party later.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (41:34):
Watch, Like mean, if you don't watch the show, the
we have some girls who like are known for staying
in bed, and they threw a party that was basically
like a sleepover.

Speaker 6 (41:45):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
But I bought a candlestick from Amazon that had a
real wick attached to it, and I was like, no way,
it lights lit, carried it around for three hours like Scrooge,
and like, it's just like a fun little like theme
parties and that was.

Speaker 4 (41:57):
A that was a good one.

Speaker 5 (41:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (41:58):
They throw pretty epic theme parties out there, like a
Pirate party, Snoozefest, all these wonderful It's a great show.
I mean, if you're not watching, you're doing it wrong. Wes.
