(00:31):
But that doesn't mean there's much to talk about from
Saturday morning up until the news today.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Yeah, incredible weekend of football that Steelers Ravens finale was
spectacular with and now, as Jamie mentioned, we have huge
news coming all over from the league coaches, maybe even
something specifically from the AFC North.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
And a guy who's become a household name. We will
talk to you about it. Shortly stayed with us right here. Set,
you're ready to roll.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
I'm ready to Rocky's in New York Bears playoffs and
you are starting the Jungle Morning Football.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Let's do yo.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Welcome to Good Morning Football. Presented by Old Trapper. That's right.
Welcome in everybody, Monday morning, the day after the regular
season completes for twenty twenty five, Jamie Mansi Seth and
Kyle here La New York covered. But we pay our
attention to every city that an NFL team resides in
this morning because there is news emerging, not just from
the playoff teams, but from other thirty ish teams that
(01:37):
are not playing next weekend. So with that, we're going
to look at the AFC North real quick. Welcome in
the NFL network insiders that are with us right now,
and that is Toad Hella, Sero, Ian Rappaport and Mike Garafolo. Guys,
we've already seen one head coach release from his duties
in Atlanta. Is there more news coming out of Cleveland today,
Rep Sheep, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
The Cleveland Browns have now fired head coach Kevin Stefanski,
the two time Coach of the Year and one of
the more respected coaches in the NFL. It has been
a tough, tough two seasons for the Cleveland Browns, certainly,
plenty of quarterback questions and questions in general for a
team in transition, a team that very famously traded for
Deshaun Watson and spent the next several years trying to
(02:16):
figure out if it was going to work. Obviously dealt
with injuries, a lot going on with the Cleveland Browns
in all leads the departure tom of coach Kevin Stefanski. Certainly,
I would say Stefanski's going to emergence one of the
top candidates of this cycle. So then you would say, well,
how did the Cleveland Browns fire him? Seem to be
that owner Jimmy has them and those involved in this process,
(02:39):
and I would put general manager Andrew Berry in that
group because he is now going to run the search
for a new head coach. Simply wanted a new voice.
Love Stefanski, respect him, was just time for something new.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
So he is now out, and I.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Would expect basically every team with an opening to take
a hard look at him for their new head coach.
Speaker 6 (02:58):
It's very rare that you've got a two time NFL
Coach of the Year who suddenly becomes available in his
prime in terms of his career, albeit after a couple
of really challenging seasons. When you're evaluating Kevin Stefanski and
the Browns. You have to look in part at what
he was dealing with at the quarterback position. First year out,
they go to the playoffs with Baker Mayfield. Second year,
(03:19):
Baker has a slew of injuries that following offseason, the
Browns make the blockbuster trade for DeShawn Watson, which because
of suspension any series of injuries to Watson never works out. Then,
over the past couple of years, it has been about
trying to find the next starting quarterback, including looking at
rookies Dylan Gabriel and Shador Sanders this season. To that extent,
(03:40):
Kevin Stefanski, as you said, Ian certainly would appear to
be a top candidate now hitting the market. As for
what this Browns job is going to be, Andrew Berry,
the general manager, is going to stay in place. He
is going to be a core part of that team
moving forward.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
And Mike.
Speaker 6 (03:55):
When you look at the Browns rookie class, one of
the best in the NFL, Carson Schwesinger quite possibly the
defensive rookie of the year. They've got playmakers on offense.
Maybe they have a quarterback, plus two first round picks
in next year's draft. There are a lot of resources
to build with the question is who is that right
next voice to be able to continue what does appear
(04:17):
to be the early stages of rebuilding Cleveland.
Speaker 7 (04:19):
They mentioned the two.
Speaker 8 (04:20):
Time Coach of the Year awards that Kevin Stefanski received.
Speaker 7 (04:23):
The Coach of the Year awards been more.
Speaker 8 (04:25):
Like a curse than a blessing for some of these
coaches in recent years. Brian Dabolo winner, Met Nagy as well,
Meggie now a head coaching candidate once again. But so
when the Browns let go of Stefanski, you've got other
teams that are saying, when you look at this landscape
right now of head coaching candidates, there is no Ben Johnson.
(04:45):
There aren't many hot offensive play callers. In fact, half
the league is called by the head coach on offense,
so that whittles it down. And then you've got some
guys that are retreads and in some cases might get
fired themselves as offensive coordinators.
Speaker 7 (05:00):
So that's what.
Speaker 8 (05:00):
Makes Stefanski attractive to some teams with let's say young quarterbacks,
let's say the New York Giants, because they've got themselves
a quarterback in Jackson Dart that they want to be
able to bring in someone who is experienced and potentially
has that element on the offensive side of the ball,
even if he doesn't call it.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
So I agree with Ian.
Speaker 8 (05:20):
I agree with you guys when you say Kevin Stefanski
is going to be an attractive candidate as a head
coach for other teams with vacancies. The question is what
does he want to do. Does he want to take
a step back or do you want to jump back
into it.
Speaker 7 (05:30):
It might be up to Stefanski in the end.
Speaker 8 (05:32):
Really well, Tom.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Mentioned a very important word. It seems like he's coaching
in his prime right now. He is brilliant offensively and
if the Browns are saying what they believe to be true,
which is they needed a new voice in the room,
We're going to track that hiring process. Insiders. Thank you
so much. We know you're going to be on NFL
Network and NFL Plus for the rest of the day
on up to the minute tracking all of this stuff, Manci.
Another name to add to that list of teams is
(05:54):
the Tennessee Titans moved on from their head coach midseason.
That's another young quarterback to look at. So MANSI, whether
you want to spin it to the Browns or Stefanski
as a whole. Your initial thoughts on this decision.
Speaker 9 (06:03):
Well, I'm a fall up what Tom p said when
in regards to the amount of quarterbacks that has come
through that quarterback room for the Browns. We all know
this playing this game is if you have no quarterback,
you have no shot. And you know, to to the
defensive coach, Stefanski mentioned Shaun Washington trade and how that
kind of panned out. I mean they traded for Kenny Pickett.
He didn't even play a snap and they shipped him off.
(06:24):
They're kind of Jamis played a little bit, Joe Flacco
came a little bit. So there hasn't been a solid
quarterback player.
Speaker 10 (06:30):
You know.
Speaker 9 (06:31):
That's Kevin Stefanski could could depend on. And not to
mention when when he won all of those those head
coaching Coach of the Year awards, he had Nick Chubb,
Like Nick Chubb, isn't there anymore that that? That whole
regime and the whole identity of the Cleveland Browns offense,
it's been a circus. And so I know that he's
a great head coach, He's a great coach in general.
(06:52):
I know he's gonna get picked up elsewhere It just
sucks to see something like something like this go down.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Seth.
Speaker 11 (06:59):
Yeah, you never want to see anybody lose your job.
But let me let me, let me flip side this
for you. Okay, this is great for Kevin Stefanski. Get
him out of Cleveland. Man, this place is a black hole.
You can you're nobody is winning games in Cleveland because
(07:19):
the organization from the top down is run so poorly.
And you see it reflected every year in the chaos.
The quarterback position is just a microcosm of this. Okay,
the quarterback position that you just laid out, Mantai, it's
a micro cosm. They just can't get it right. Even
going into this year drafting Shadur and Dylan Gabriel, not
knowing who they're gonna start. They got four quarterbacks on
(07:41):
the roster to start the season. I mean, it's chaos.
So here's the thing about Stefanski. He's a hell of
offensive mine. He gets the job done. He piece meals
things together. If you get him in a situation where
he's with an organization where he can run this thing
from top to bottom and he can make think he's
gonna be He's gonna be fine. He's gonna land somewhere.
(08:02):
I say, I get it.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
It sucked.
Speaker 11 (08:03):
It's pain Fulton. You never want to see anybody lose
your job. But let's take a deep breath. Kevin Stefanski
is a good football coach. He's gonna land somewhere, and
he's gonna get an opportunity to show what he can do.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Cleveland.
Speaker 11 (08:15):
I mean, good for him taking a risk there, but
I mean Cleveland's as it's a bigger problem. It's a
disaster Kyle. And so I'm happy for Kyle. I'm happy
he gets to get out and he gets to do
something different.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Let's let's let's go uh, let's go live to Kevin
Stefanski's for his reaction but being fired by the Browns.
Speaker 10 (08:34):
Yeah, you're with You're with me, listen, you don't want
to be fired, but you cannot tell me that there
is not some part of Kevin Stefanski's It's like, okay,
all right, fresh start.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
I would look at Kevin Stefanski and I'd be like,
do you like Jackson Dark?
Speaker 3 (08:48):
What do you think about him? Coach?
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Do you like cam Ward? How do you feel about
Michael Pennix? You know what, what are your thoughts on
Fernando Mendoza, Like Kevin, you took the Browns. The Browns
to the playoffs twice, you want it playoff game of
tackle football with the Cleveland Browns. That's like three super Bowls.
We beat the Steelers in the playoffs. Like he did
(09:12):
really really special things. Before he showed up to Cleveland,
they hadn't even been to the playoffs in eighteen years.
This is a very very very good coach who has
respected and who's been handed an absurd, farcical horn of
plenty of quarterbacks, absurd, and he stands up and they
ended the season winning and on.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Like, I think that not only are there.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Teams who have a coaching vacancy who'd be interested in
Kem Stefanski, I think there are teams who don't have
a coaching vacancy who might be interested in having a
coaching vacancy because of Kevin Stefansk. I think there's people
are like, WHOA, wait, Stefanski's available, get our guy in here.
I think he is. I believe in him that much.
And I know that it's gone bad to the Browns
(09:56):
and the last couple since PNT ridiculous, ridiculous quarterback situation
I think drawn nearly entirely or entirely from the front
office and the ownership.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
I just what he has been handed.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Stupid, stupid situation, and Deshaun Watson is a big part
of it, but not all of it. Kevin Stefanski, I'm
sitting down with my family. I'm saying, where do you
want to move? Here's the Four Cities weekend moved. I
feel like he's not going to be chosen. He's going
to choose. And I love Stefanski. Anybody who hires him
is like, get ready. I think he is great and
this is a great day for him, and I am
(10:30):
happy for him.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Actually, I'm sit here. It's fired.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
It says fired by the Browns, and I'm happy for
Kevin Stefanski.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Anyone who is thinking that that man might go and
be a team's offensive coordinator, I'm most likely wrong. He
will be ahead coach, he is beneath him. He will
go and be a head coach somewhere else. And the
amazing thing about this decision by the Browns is that
in this current NFL season, you had an active NFL
head coach complimenting sarcastically the Browns current GM and Andrew
(10:58):
Berry saying, I guess he's smarter than me. But he
did trade Flacco within the division. The AFC North is
wild right now. It was no more than an exclamation
point put than on that game that we watched last
night and that coach that I mentioned with Mike Tomlin
because he was it was blasphemo as the fact that
Flacco went in the division this year.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Hey, Kevin se fancy, how do you feel about Lamar Jackson?
Speaker 3 (11:17):
You like him?
Speaker 1 (11:18):
I don't look everything's on the table, guys, all right, I'm.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Feeling it this morning.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
This is holy water being put on the field. I
don't know if this is the first time they've done this.
I've looked into it. It hasn't been done before. And
just not that covering because the game was so big.
Let us know, if you're in Pittsburgh thirteen to ten, sloppy,
low scoring game, and then Lamar's just starts lamaring and
he turned back the clock a couple of years and
just started chucking it through the sky to a Flowers.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Whenever he wanted.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
The Steelers stopped covering za Flowers, they stopped wrapping up Lamar.
And this game like did three minder Racers and got
drunk really fast. It was really fun to watch as
a fan, to end your Sunday night at your regular season.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
So can Pittsburgh keep up with that firepower? Somehow they could?
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Rogerson started throwing a briar mooth over the middle, one
of three or four incredible throws he had last night.
Then two plays later, the well named Kenneth gain Well,
he's gonna hand it to him. You know him as
an Eagle, You should know him as probably the Steelers'
most consistent offensive player this year. You know, only is
so happy that they won this game. Set Dk metcalfs Oh,
(12:23):
he's back. The pressure is off. Yes, you did not
cost the Steelers a playoff trip because you encountered an
individual in Detroits. All right, Lamar, you're down again. Three
minutes left, less than three minutes. Just start to say
flowers again. If they had had more time, they would
have been a third touch on his flowers. Never mind
the penalty at the bottom. It was on the Steelers.
Zay just running through the Pennsylvania night like it was
(12:45):
no big guilt. But there's a minute left for Rogers,
and all of a sudden, it's nuclear so he throws
it to Jordy Nelson. No, it's not Jordy Nelson's Colvin Austin.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Give me a flashback.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Oh my god, Jordy Randall cob all those James.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Jones and that was a nasty move. Shoudobiz is a
good player. He hit the turf. Lot of good players.
That what happened to him. But guess what the game
got over?
Speaker 1 (13:07):
They left too much time, especially when the boz does this.
Brian Bosworth could have kicked a better exit point than that.
Speaker 9 (13:13):
Boz Well.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
He never missed his pats, but he did at the.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Worst possible time.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
This is all setting up for a game winning field
goal by the Ravens, but a fourth and seven fourth
in the season get him a TJ not a chance.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
Likely.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
I think Tariko and cons were said this. Whenever there's
a huge Ravens game, I zed likely is always involved
with the end.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Oh good bad, or rather it has to help catch Likely,
it's a great player. It wasn't Mark Anders this time.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
It was likely.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
So you go to the unlikely, which is the fact
that Tyler Lup would miss this kick.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
This is forty four yards.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
We got guys piping sixty seven yards these days, and
he missed the forty four yarder, but I think forty.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Four feet it was a no doubt or pushwrif I
don't celebrate it.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
Seth and I were talking, is we become fathers who
have to feel worse for these people? Right?
Speaker 11 (13:55):
So, oh, it's so painful, man. But he just puts
his head in his hands. You don't know if there's
tears there. They're almost tears in my eyes watching it
at all, might go oh, my goodness, well no tears
in Aaron Rodgers eyes.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Now going back to the playoffs, it's been a while. Oh,
it is a good celebration. Tomlins blowing duties and beautiful.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
When Tomlin's feeling himself, it's like nobody and he is
the AFC North Champs.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Wow, do your chance, do your nine and eight stuff.
He's not nine and eight. Twenty six, twenty four.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Afterwards, we're gonna hear from Lamar, and we're gonna hear
from Rogers, who's going back to the playoffs for the
first time in a few years.
Speaker 12 (14:31):
That's what you want.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
You want.
Speaker 12 (14:33):
With two twenty left and you need a touchdown, That's
exactly what you want. But I was confident that I
was going to play a good game and that I
could kind of be the magnetic force out there to
keep guys confident and calm. And that's part of it
being the old guy, having a lot of gray in
your beard is they expect things from you, and it's
nice to be able to deliver in moments like that.
Speaker 13 (14:54):
Definitely stune, man, Oh, we had it in the bat
I thought we had it in the bat Man.
Speaker 7 (15:00):
I don't know what else we can do. Do you
do you want to see John?
Speaker 13 (15:06):
You you asked me about next year, Jamison. I'm so
caught up in what just happened tonight. I can't I
can't focus on that right now. I just told you
like he asked me, Are you stun I'm stunning right now.
I'm still trying to process what's going on. Like, I know,
we lost, but what you know, that's all.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
These shows are challenging because all I want to do
is talk about that answer out of Lamar Jackson. He's
spitting off to the side, he's you guys, don't find
it strange that Lamar Jackson is asked about his head
coach and you could have stood up there and been
like that's my guy, that's who I want to play with.
But it said He's like, I'm you can be stunned
about the game, but like a little something throw John
Harbaugh's way could have gone a long way because of
(15:46):
the headlines this team has received. Steelers one. Hey, they're
the AFC NORTHS champion. That's for another day. Manti, please
talk about the way that came ended.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Well, I want to.
Speaker 9 (15:54):
Yeah, the boys over there in New York said that
you know, they as fathers now they feel sorry for
the kicker and make yep, yeah, I don't, guys you
this is my this is my one thing about kickers, okay,
and you have one job.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
That's it.
Speaker 9 (16:12):
And we've had this argument. We've had this argument with
kickers that have been teammates. It's like, bro, you do
the same approach every single play, regardless of the temperature,
regardless of the win, regardless of where we're at.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
It's the same approach.
Speaker 9 (16:25):
There's other positions on the football field where it's it's
dictated on somebody else, like we have to go back, right, left,
all of that stuff. You have one job and I'm
not playing. I can only think what it means for
the Baltimore Ravens, who did that great comeback. You put
them in that situation and they miss. It's just we've
(16:45):
seen this so many different times, and I think it's
I if it was like a sixty something fifty something,
it's like, okay, bro, like we could have got you
more yardage, but it was thirty something, what was it
forty four? Like now those are chip shots nowadays. It's
just like, it frustrates me sometimes when there are there
(17:06):
are so much work that goes into getting something happen.
I'm fumbling because I'm that it comes down to that
and it just doesn't end the way that everybody wanted
it to end.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
So take it.
Speaker 9 (17:19):
Take this from me, set, because it's a little frustrating
when I see a kicker miss those opportunities to win.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
It rare moment of being empathetic towards somebody, very rare.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
I would be nice.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
And there was holy water in the end zone.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
There was a holy water. It was preordained.
Speaker 9 (17:39):
Listen, listen, I think, I think, okay, so so I
think this is what frustrates me the most about kickers, okay,
is there's more kickers don't.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Go to meetings like they don't have meetings.
Speaker 9 (17:49):
They kind of sit in the in the locker room
and they play video games and.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
And and that. That not all kickers, not all specially.
Speaker 9 (17:57):
I'm sure there's the guys like Tom Tom Tom Moore
said was elite when it but it frustrates the living.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
Crap out of me.
Speaker 9 (18:03):
Sometimes when they're put in these situations, they don't capalez.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
Sorry, go ahead, says oh no, this is great. This
is deep seated.
Speaker 11 (18:10):
There's something in you that you need to get out
when I never knew this about you and kickers, this
is amazing.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Either it took two years finally even jerk, Yeah, finally
this is it, man, it's happened.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
I can't believe that this is great.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Sharing today.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
I go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 11 (18:28):
This This Ravens season has been crazy, guys. I mean
the AFC North was I mean ever before the season,
you're looking at the Bengals and the Ravens. Those were
the favorites, right. The Steelers maybe an outside chance, but
everybody just thought Tomlin was going to get this team
to maybe five hundred and they might compete for a
wild card and get knocked out. They start the season great,
they start the season hot, the Ravens started the season terrible.
Lamar goes down, he comes back, they throw some things together.
(18:52):
I mean, it's really been an incredible season for the
Ravens for it to come down to one kick from
a twenty four year old rookie, you know, replacing one
of the most accurate kickers of all time in Baltimore.
I mean, I don't I don't care if he's just
a kicker and he's got one job, man, Ti, it
still breaks my heart for this kid. He has been
a good kicker all season long, put in an incredibly
(19:13):
difficult position, and there was holy water on the field.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
What is he supposed to do? You can't fight Jesus.
Speaker 11 (19:21):
Come on, come on now, Kyle, you can't fight God.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
So here, this is what he was dealing with.
Speaker 11 (19:27):
I mean, I mean Bosworth most one of the most
accurate kickers and Steelers has remissed it extra point just
right before that. So, I mean there was something in
the water, something in the holy water, something.
Speaker 7 (19:38):
In Aaron Pittsburgh.
Speaker 11 (19:39):
I mean, what an incredible game, incredible finish to the
regular season, Kyle.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
I mean I feel time for him.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
You see that as perfect snap, perfect hold. The offensive
lineman did their jobs. Tyler Luf gets a nice game
check for that game and he can't make the kick.
The audacity on that man to miss the kick. Who
does he think is Mark Andrews dropping the ball last year?
Come on, it's the fact math, I just go, I'm
just trying to tee you off and get you booking
(20:07):
you with.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
A They don't have meetings, They just show up. They
just go a roll out there, put their paths on it.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Nice life.
Speaker 9 (20:16):
I don't know what was more pressure packed that kicker,
the fact that I was talking and it just went
super quiet in this studio and it got super awkward.
And so I'm sure is that awkward in the locker
room after that game?
Speaker 3 (20:27):
But yeah, man, you know what, I'm going to.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Do what John Harbaugh did and emotionally supporting his kicker
after he went to the locker room. I'm just going
to pass you on the back right there, man, I said,
you know why it was, you know why it was.
We were just stunned that you just came out with
that take. It was so unlike you, just like it
was unlike Tyler Loup to push that kick, all right,
he said, Sometimes I think you just hit it weak
or something like that. He had a whole take and
he had his teammates standing by him in the locker
(20:49):
room after that. Tyler Luke, he goes to his meetings.
He is a special teamer. He is fantastic. He is
a leader of men. Tyler Loop, the rookie. We feel
for him on this show, don't we. Manti Manti, Yeah, exactly.
Great killers are in guys, the Ravens. I missed that
kick and they're not in the postseason anymore. We got
the wildcard weekend set Saturday, Rams Panthers on Fox Saturday Night.
(21:10):
Special Set's gonna be there, Packers Bears three point zero,
and then three games on Sunday, one on Monday night,
and we'll see if Father Max from Saint Vincent College
will be back in the Steelers end zone, throw flinging
that holy water left and right. Because the Texans are
coming to town, you better put some on where the
defensive ends sit in the Texans bench. My gosh, you
gotta team them somehow.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Kyle Kevin Sevanski has been fired. Rahee Morris has been fired.
We got more news of that coming up. I'm already
brainstorming like one of the most Jarring.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Shopping miss picks.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Ever, I'm thinking about Gary Anderson. I'm thinking about our
thirty parking ubble double you know, double dunck. Last night's
kick was the most crazy miskick since the double doink,
which was a twenty eighteen playoffs Tyler Luke, we're talking
all kinds of coaches.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Don't go anywhere. Your coach maybe fired, hopefully not. This
is it. I yes, I understand.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
Lamarth couldn't even speak, he was so shook. I actually
kind of get it. He can't believe he missed this kick,
but he did. That's football, guys, put it.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
On a loop.
Speaker 7 (22:17):
Good morning football.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
All right, it's a Monday where we know the playoff
teams are set. However, those who are not in the
postseason have decisions to make, and with that we bring
in our NFL Network insiders with us today, Ian Rappaport,
Tom Pella, Sero, and Mike Garafolo. Guys, we will see
you the rest of the day here on NFL Network
with an up to the minute show covering out all
the news today. But rap sheet, I'll start with you
and some moving on decisions around the NFL, and we will.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
Start with the Atlanta Falcon to move down from Raheem Morris,
their coach of the last two seasons eight to nine,
eight and nine. In this past year won four in
a row, which some people thought might end up saving
his job. Obviously, someone who's very well liked by owner
Arthur Blank, did not matter. The decision clearly had already
been made, Blank deciding Lady.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Yesterday that Raheemo is.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
Going to be out as head coach, as is General
manager Terry Fondo, who is the architect between a highly
architect of a highly debated quarterback decision drafting Michael Pennis
after signing Kirk Cousins to a huge deal.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Both of them are now out. The Falcons also.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
Announced earlier this morning they're going to hire a president
of football Operations who is going to run basically everything,
and that finals say, hire the GM, hire the coach.
Presumably that is Matt Ryan, who has been in the
building for the last several weeks having these discussions. They
have to run a process, but that is the expectation.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
So that is the Falcons part of it.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
The other part of it, Tom, is that the Indianapolis
Colts made the decision not to fire anyone Shane Stike
and the head coach general manager Chris Poward both are
going to be back for the twenty twenty six season.
Carl Ursa Gordon going to address media members later today.
But this decision comes after a free fall at the
end of the year. Injuries contributed greatly to this. Dangel
(24:03):
Jones tours Achilles playing with a fractured fibulous sauce Gardner
Bailey played on and on. Several injuries all helped add
to a tough end of the season for the Coats,
but they're running it back with the same leadership.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
In Indy we.
Speaker 6 (24:17):
Mentioned earlier, Kevin Stefanski out as the Browns head coach.
Another situation we are monitoring today is in Las Vegas,
where coach Pete Carroll's status is very much in doubt. Carol,
in his first season at seventy four years old with
Las Vegas three and fourteen, fired two coordinators. There was
a loss of patients from the likes of Max Crosby.
(24:39):
A lot left wrong for the Raiders, and so while
Carol continues to fight for a second season, he told
reporters last night he's not had those discussions, has not.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
Brought up retirement.
Speaker 6 (24:49):
Certainly to anybody, it would be a very big surprise
at this point if Carol is not out for the Raiders.
As of now, we have four head coaching vacancies between
the Browns, the Falcons, the Giants, and the Titans. Tennessee
got the very early jumpstart when they fired Brian Callahan
back in October. Mike Borgonzi, the GM who is running
(25:11):
the search with Chad Brinker, the President of Football Operations
in a restructured front office, has had several months here.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
To vet candidates.
Speaker 6 (25:19):
I would anticipate this is a robust and wide ranging
type of a search. We'll see how many interviews they
ultimately decide to do, but it will be a significant number.
Some of the names I would anticipate you will hear
in the mix Mike McCarthy, the Super Bowl winning former
head coach of the Packers and the Cowboys. Matt Nagy,
the current Chiefs offensive coordinator and former Bears head coach.
(25:41):
They're also going to look at a bunch of defensive
coordinators around the NFL. Guys like Jeff Hafley and Robert
Salla are going to be in that mix. Expect this
to be a deliberate search Mike as Tennessee, with Cam
Warren playing better and better as the season went along
searches for its new man atop the coaching total poll tom.
Speaker 8 (26:01):
One of the other spots we're watching today is going
to be Arizona with Jonathan Gannon, who said last week
that he felt good about his job status. He's fifteen
and thirty five is the mark over three seasons with
the Arizona Cardinals, but fifteen to thirty six exactly.
Speaker 7 (26:17):
But Kyler Murray.
Speaker 8 (26:19):
Hasn't played up to the standards of the contract and
the draft positioning that the Cardinals gave him, and there
is a thought that if Gannon remains that there will
be significant changes, not only to the roster.
Speaker 7 (26:30):
Murray could be done in Arizona.
Speaker 8 (26:32):
Obviously, We've talked about that extensively, but also to the
coaching staff perhaps as well. So we'll keep an eye
in Arizona to see what we hear there. We have
not heard from Michael Bidwell, the owner just yet. Meanwhile,
the Giants who talked about them just a short while ago.
With Kevin Stefanski now available, I would expect him to
be in the mix for the Giants job. There aren't
a lot of great offensive play callers. There isn't that
(26:54):
big pool of those guys the Ben Johnson's of the
world right now.
Speaker 7 (26:59):
So Stefanski to me stands.
Speaker 8 (27:01):
Out as a strong possibility to help guide that guy
Jackson dark. But expect a lot of guys to be
in the mix here, including defensive coordinators. Time that some
of them that you mentioned around the league, Steve Spagnola
with ties to the organization, Antonio Peers, who played for
Spagnolo and Tom Coughlin. In fact, Ryan Dunlevy of The
New York Post whom I defeated in the Fantasy Football Championship,
so I feel bad. I gotta give him a little
(27:21):
shout out, he posted on x earlier. Darius Slayton, the
veteran wide receiver, would like to see someone Tom Coughlin
esque as a head coach. Pierce played for Coughlin, Spags
coach with him. Could be one of those guys Nutes.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
That's Miles Garrett, that's Miles Garrett father. And here's Miles
Garrett making history up seventeen to twelve. In the fourth quarter,
he gets a sack on Joe Burrow that gives him
the single season record, and everybody goes nuts. This is
on the road in Cincinnati against rival fans. There's in
Joe bu there's so many of his teammates. Look at
Miles Garrett on the top pizza tackling.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
Joe Burrow goes down, it's over.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
They give him the sack, they carry him off the field,
They win the game, lay next fire.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
They coach twenty seconds later.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
But Miles Garrett against his moment, a truly all time
legendary performer, having the legendary season.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
And there's a conversation that goes with it.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
Okay, many people, and I'll just put myself among them,
watch that play and are saying, Joe Burrow went down,
Joe Burrow took a dive, Joe Burrow gave him the record.
And I'm not saying that to be hot taking, and
I'm not saying it to be a provocateur, and I'm
not saying it disrespectfully at all to Burrow or to Garrett.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
I'm just saying what I'm seeing.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
I think that Joe Burrow knew what time it was,
knew that the Bengals were playing for nothing.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
He knew that it was the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
There was only five minutes left, and Miles Garrett was
running out of time to do it. He knew that
it was a first and ten, so ostensibly you could
recover from a sack on first and ten instead of
a third and long. Also understand the relationship between Joe
Burrow and Miles Garrett. Joe Burrow is a huge admirer
of Miles Garrett, which he told me about just back
in September a week straight up says, I love Miles.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
Watch this, thanks so much.
Speaker 14 (28:58):
When you're out there, that one specifically didn't hurt Miles
usually takes care of me. He gets there and takes
me to the ground, but doesn't necessarily try to hurt me.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
He's good like that.
Speaker 14 (29:10):
Yeah, I love Miles. He's a good guy, great player.
Got a lot of respect for him.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Okay, so maybe in that respect and like for Miles Garrett.
He says, you know what end of the sea, I
want Miles to get this record, and you're probably sitting
home me like, oh come on, come on. He did
the FARV First of all, it wasn't as gratuitous as far.
It was a little more subtle. But if you're still
not convinced immediately after the game yesterday, Joe Burrow is
asked what happened on the play? Joe Burrow, a very
(29:36):
high IQ guy who has one of these photographic memories.
You can remember any play from any season, on and
on and on, is asked about a play that happened
like twenty minutes prior to this. Joe, what happened on
that play? Tell us about the protection, tell us about
what went into him sacking.
Speaker 7 (29:49):
You go ahead, walk us through that plane that went
on his sack.
Speaker 15 (29:53):
What y'all called it?
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Kind of how he won?
Speaker 6 (29:55):
Do you remember?
Speaker 14 (30:00):
You know, I'm trying to remember if we had It's
tough to recall right now, the exact protection ideas on
that whether we because certain looks. You can't you can't
have help on ninety five because of the potential pressure
(30:21):
responses that they give. But it's tough to have to
remember the exact call in that situation. Off the top
of my head.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
He's got nothing nothing, doesn't remember the protection, doesn't remember
the call, none of that stuff. And listen, I'm okay
with this. This record is sloppy based on sixteen games.
Seventeen games. Guests to know watch straighthand Garrett. It's fine
I actually think it's kind of magical that it went
down like this. I do think that he played a
(30:49):
part in Miles Garritett in the sack. I do, and
if you're insulted by that, I don't really care. You
watch evidence I just presented. I'm not mad at Garrett,
I'm not mad at Burrow. I think it's kind of
cool and I think it kind of happened because Joe
Burrow decided it was going to happen. That's my take
and I'm sticking to it. Seth rowins in a weird way.
You're kind of familiar with some sort of performance.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Art like this.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
You're watching it happen. Was this all natural or was
this maybe slightly orchestrated?
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Your thoughts.
Speaker 11 (31:16):
I appreciate your case, Kyle, I really do, and I
agree with a lot of it. I feel like it
was more of a situation where Miles had his guy beat.
He comes around the edge, he was gonna get the
sack anyway. Joe Burrow really had nowhere to go at
this point in the season, very little to nothing to
play for. He doesn't need to take a big hit,
(31:37):
he doesn't need to stay up to try to force
something down.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
The field.
Speaker 11 (31:40):
Like you said, it's first down, it's not third down.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
They can get this back. It's not a huge loss.
Speaker 11 (31:45):
He's not deep in the pocket. He said, you know what,
I'm just gonna go down so that I don't have
to take this big hit.
Speaker 7 (31:52):
We can regroup, we can move forward.
Speaker 11 (31:54):
So I'm not fully on board Kyle with you that
it was you know the fix was in all that.
A lot of people aren't, But I will say I
think there was.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
An element of it.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
I see him coming. Let me just get down, Manti.
What do you think.
Speaker 9 (32:06):
Well, I'll tell you what I know from what I
just saw. Number One, they full slid it. Now you
full slid it against Miles Garrett. What full slide is
is when the guard center guard tackle slide one way
and then you stick one tackle on an island, which
just happened to be on the side of ninety five.
Because if there was anybody that was watching Miles Garrett
all game, I was, and the guy was getting double
(32:28):
team chipped all of that stuff all game long, and
it kind of reminded me of a Pro Bowl a
little bit, like when Miles would get held up, you
just kind of jog around and walk around while the
play was still going, and you could tell that Miles
Garrett was playing for the record, and there wasn't really
any pursuit, which is something that you used to see,
you're used to seeing from ninety five, regardless of where
(32:49):
you go. But when he could feel like he wasn't
going to get the sack, uge huge slow up a
little bit, so you knew what his intentions were going
into this game. I just said, look, seventy five, everybody
is going to the right. The only one going to
the left is a tackle. Now I give it to
a man time. I don't think I don't think that
Joe Burrow fell down to get it to him, but
(33:10):
the fact that you slid, you just don't full slide
it against a guy like that.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
You slide it to him.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
He didn't, He didn't fall down, but he also didn't
do his damn this to stay up.
Speaker 9 (33:21):
Well, what I'm saying, what I'm what I'm saying, is
you just you You'll never slide. You'll never see anybody
full slided away from marcou Parky.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
You're saying is they weren't double They weren't double teaming
him on that one play and he took advantage of it.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
Yeah, he took advantage of it.
Speaker 9 (33:36):
I'm not saying that he fell down so that Miles
could sack him. I'm just saying it is a little
alarming that you would full slide it against away from
somebody that will wreck your game, like Miles Garrett.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
I don't like this for Miles Garrett. I don't like
the fact that you even just called it sloppy. I
think it's unfair to how talented he is. I think
he should just be alone in the history books. And
I don't like the fact that this is like some
weird like three different gentleman handshake conspiracy theory happening. Like
I just want to celebrate Miles Garrett for the sack record.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Listen, at some point we'll go to eighteen games and
someone will break Miles Garrett's record, and we'll have the
conversation again, it's sloppy.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
It's not my fault, but that's so cool. I think
if that is someone other than.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Garrett, Burrow might fight harder to get out of the sack.
Myles Garrett, you're a great player, gonna be first battle
Hall of Fame or full respective.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Now your fall.
Speaker 16 (34:29):
Good morning football, The Rams meet the Cardinals in Week eighteen,
finishing the season twelve and five. It's their most wins
in a season since twenty twenty one, the year they
went on to win the Super Bowl. Matthew Stafford making
one last case for MVP, throwing four touchdown passes, moving
into seventh place all time for the most touchdown passes
(34:49):
in NFL history. Now the Rams, they got to hit
the road for a wild card matchup with the Panthers,
a team they based back in Week thirteen.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Yeah, this is a rematch.
Speaker 16 (34:58):
Head Coachean McVay speaking about getting the win over Arizona
but still having to move on to the postseason.
Speaker 15 (35:07):
The thing I was the most proud of is the
way that we finished the game. You go down three points,
you're thinking, what the hell's going on? And the guys
just found a way to dig deep competitive greatness, being at.
Speaker 7 (35:16):
Your best when your best is required.
Speaker 9 (35:18):
That's what it was.
Speaker 7 (35:19):
That's what those guys did today. Proud of the group.
Speaker 15 (35:21):
And now we move forward and cool opportunity to be
able to earn a chance to be one of the
fourteen teams in this tournament. Know how difficult it is
and how competitive this league is and go back to
a place that you know ended up. You know this team,
this team humbled us a handful of weeks ago, and
so what a great challenge. And as a competitor, if
this doesn't get you excited, then I don't know what
the hell you're doing.
Speaker 16 (35:41):
I was there in the building for the game. They
were certainly buzzing those RAMS players. There's a lot to
look forward to in the postseason. Incredible play from some
of those guys. Jamie, it is time for a game boss.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Yeah. Well, Sean McVay doesn't blink when he's at the podium,
you know what I mean, Like he's like a heeds
like an eye drop campaign because of how it's incredible.
Mantai game ball, go ahead, we game Well.
Speaker 9 (36:02):
I got this game ball and it's a gold one.
The reason why it is gold is because this is
going to Bobby Wagner. Now, Bobby Wagner yesterday got two
thousand career tackles. There's only three people to have two
thousand career tackles. It's Ray Lewis, London, Fletcher and now
that man right there. So this isn't just a normal
game ball. This is going to a game ball to
somebody that had achieved something great. So Bobby Wagner has
(36:23):
my golden game ball.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Excellent. Look at that list, really cool, Seth, Seth.
Speaker 11 (36:29):
Wow, Yeah, my game ball is going to Harrison Smith. Yes, Yes,
a guy who's finishing his career this year.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
With one team in Minnesota.
Speaker 11 (36:40):
He's been a fixture in the secondary in the NFC
North for nearly a decade. He's been an incredible guy.
May not be a Hall of Famer, but is he
one of the best during his tenure. Absolutely no doubt
about it. All pro pro bowler and just a stand
up dude, stand up dude, great guy. Look at the appreciation.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
I mean they love him there.
Speaker 11 (37:00):
What a guy, Harry Smith.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
That's a good one, Seth. You got somebody in studio
here was very fired up about that decision. I give
my game ball to one, but he represents many. My
one game ball goes to Matt Hunter, and he is
the senior director of groundskeeper Operations for high Mark Stadium.
Final game played in Western New York yesterday. But really
it was the people who sat and not sat. They
(37:21):
stood at their seats in Buffalo yesterday and just took
in everything that this stadium has meant. Jason mccordy was
on the call for CBS tweeted this video saying people
stayed through the video that they showed in the building.
It's been up since nineteen seventy three. You knew it
as rich Stadium, the Ralph New Airfield now high Mark
New Stadium said to open in September, which is excellent
(37:43):
for Buffalo. We're happy for them and advancing the technology
of course in the building, but that doesn't mean that
memories were not made. So shout out to Matt Hunter
and all who kept that building humming over the years.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
Kyle, Yeah, it's melancholy for high Mark, but the new
stadium's incredible. I got to stick to tour. That's fantastic.
There's gonna be so many great memories in there. My
game ball goes to Cam Hayward.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
He's not on the.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
Highlights because it's all Rogers and Lamar, but the Steelers
do not win that game without Cam Hayward. He has
to some thing that he won't admit. That annoys them,
but it annoys me. Cam Hayward was born in nineteen
eighty nine. He's old and it's never talked about because
his quarterback was born.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
In nineteen eighty three, and it's all about him all
the time.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
Cam Hayward is a grizzled, strong, solid veteran making plays
and massive games against art Rifles and going back to
the playoffs. Cam Hayward, friend of the show, front of
the league, and certainly in front of the Steelers. Cam Hayward,
you get my game ball for still still just dominating
in the middle of that line. You're the man man.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
There is no way we made it to the final
segment of the regular season GMFB on a Monday, Manti,
Kyle Seth, Jamie Seth, You're up first on a Monday.
Love having you here.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
There's no way.
Speaker 7 (38:51):
Joe Burrow is this hands.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Oh my god, I look at this.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
Look at it, baby, Oh my goodness.
Speaker 11 (38:59):
That is just that hair.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
It's flowing so cool.
Speaker 11 (39:02):
Look at the style.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
He knows it too. I know it, Kyle, the whole
world knows. I mean, I am.
Speaker 11 (39:14):
Fully heterosexual, but if I wasn't, Jamie see you get it,
you understand it.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
I mean, touch the screen that energy.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
You know what I have to say about that, Kyle.
From that interview that you did with him earlier this season,
he's all geled. The hair wasn't moving right. I think
he's just like, oh my god, the back hair, Like
I can't, I can't defend you. My friend put the
gel is and there's no way. You just sent me
up like that.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
I'm at a total lot.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Why there's no way again? Oh yeah, the Colts ran
something fancy. You guys are such trolls. The Colts did
something Rigaberto Sanchez through a completion fourth and seven fake punt. Great.
What did the Colts do? They kept their punk team
on the field. Texans couldn't saw anybody off. They go
to snap the ball in punt formation. Texans get called
(40:10):
for twelve minute on the field. It's not chess. No,
it's not checkers. It's chess. And you got Philip Rivers
standing on the sideline. Mansie, who earlier this season was like,
we didn't sun defense got to stay on the field,
and that's what the Colts did the Texans.
Speaker 9 (40:23):
Yeah, there you go, Jamie. Well, min there's no way
moment it couldme't from the same game. Now you talk
about their playing chess, well, this one they were trying
to play chess and the end up playing checkers.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Tommy Tonya.
Speaker 9 (40:34):
I was on this watch all of these laterals by
the Coats and then he tries to throw it back
and then Tommy Tonya comes up and picks up this
ball and he runs.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
So Tommy Tonya is dead.
Speaker 7 (40:46):
Is a really good rugby player?
Speaker 1 (40:48):
Now?
Speaker 3 (40:48):
Mean does he scored it like a rugby player?
Speaker 9 (40:50):
Rugby Plus just dive into the end zone it and
land on their forums like this.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
That's called a try in rugby. He just scored it.
That was mine.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
There was no way.
Speaker 9 (40:57):
Shout out to Tommy Tony. I a friend of the show,
was on here a few weeks ago. Great showing for
the Come on MANSI what you got?
Speaker 3 (41:04):
I love him. It's fantastic.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
Leg boy.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Let's go from one oose to another. Let's get a
Chiefs highlight right now. Oh my god, Kingsley, this guy.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
Decides, I'm gonna get my hands on the ball. I'm
leaping somebody. I don't care if I'm alignment. I'm gonna
elevate that big man had thoughts about. And this is
gonna be the coolest highlight of all time. They're gonna
put this in Canton. Kingsley, I talk about it so
so Kingsley's family. We're all from the same hometown. It's
(41:34):
funny that you seekings doing this.
Speaker 9 (41:37):
You saw Pine kind of getting his offensive you know,
Stiff Farms a few years ago. If there's something about
big sawoins and running the football, I think.
Speaker 3 (41:45):
It just comes back from the park days. You know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (41:47):
Kyle, Oh, my gosh, athletes.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
He's a nervous hair toucher, all right. That's how some
of the teams she'll say about making decisions about whether
or not they're keeping their gms or head coaches. My god, Mantai,
Kyle Seth, Jamie, we appreciate you watching us on Good
Morning Football.
Speaker 4 (42:09):
Joe.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
I mean, it's I that's what the Bengals feels like.
This is George next season? What's gonna happen. You're gonna
watch NFL up to the minute for the rest of
the day with our NFL Network insiders. So wrap sheet, Tom,
Mike g take it away. Is there something happening in Cincinnati?
The hair toucher might think so, yes.
Speaker 1 (42:29):
Oh
