Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio God.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
To help us remember Jim Orsay this morning, we want
to welcome in Colts Legend Pro Bowl Football or Pro
Football Hall of Famer Dwight Freeny.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Dwight.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
We're so appreciative for you joining us this morning. We
know that he meant so much to you. And we'll
start here just how will you remember mister Ersay?
Speaker 4 (00:43):
Yeah, yeah, real sad, sad morning.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
You know for all of.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Us, you know that that new Jim. You know, I
think Jim, you know, he was a great man. You know,
I always remember Jim for the positivity. You know, he
he was one of those guys where you meet him
and you could just feel how passionate he was about
you as an individual, the team, the city.
Speaker 5 (01:10):
You know, he had a lot of love for.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Indianapolis and and and the organization and his players and
his family and every time you know you're run into him.
You know, for me, it was always always love like
I was a family member, you know, a part of
his family. And those are the you know, the positive,
great things I'm always gonna remember. You know, this wasn't
(01:32):
just an owner that you know, just happened to come
by once in a blue moon and you see him,
you felt, you felt his presence. He wanted to be
a part of the organization, and uh, the way that
the things that he believed, you know, I think it
kind of resonated through the entire organization, which was all
(01:52):
about family, high character guys. So so for me and
I know the rest of the coast nation is a
very very sad day.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Well that makes it even more special that you're joining us,
and we genuinely appreciate on an emotional morning like this, Dwight.
You were there for a handful of years with a
handful of very good colts teams that could not get
over the hump until you eventually did and won the
Super Bowl and brought the Super Bowl to Indianapolis. What
did that mean specifically to mister Ersay to bring a
title to that town.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
I mean it met everything. You know. You go out
there and you know you're in this business to win, right,
and I think.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Jim, you know what he did, you know, and turned
you know, Indianapolis into a football town and that's hard
to do in a Hoosier state, you know, in a
basketball state, and that's what he did. You know, we
kept shipping at that boulder, kept shipping at that block
year after year. You know, there's a lot of teams,
you know, for us, you know, we always say, you know,
(02:55):
oh man, we wish we would have won three or
four whatever, because we had so many wins during that era.
But it's a lot of teams that didn't win a
Super Bowl and we can say we done, and we
can say that we brought something to Indianapolis which Indianapolis
has never had before and a lot of us never
had before, which is a super Bowl. And that all
started with Jim Dwight.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
When you think about the dream wish list of any
kid growing up playing football, you dream about getting drafted,
You dream about winning a Super Bowl, You dream about
ending your career in the Football Hall of Fame. You
got to do all of those things. And Jim obviously
had a massive hand in all of that. And I
want to talk about that last one the Football Hall
of Fame, mister Ers introduced You did the introduction in that.
(03:39):
Take us back to that moment. What was that like
when you asked him to do that and hearing him
speak about you in that moment?
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yeah, you know, it was kind of an easy decision
for me to have Jim kind of introduced me. You know,
it all starts with him. He is the horseshoe. You know,
his family, you know, created that organization and all that
he's been through with that organization.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
You know, it all starts with him.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
You know, I wouldn't be in that organization if it
wasn't for him, and the way that he treated the
players while they were there, and me specifically, it was
it was amazing.
Speaker 5 (04:16):
So it was easy for me to pick him.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
And I was honored that he would you know that
he actually did it, and uh, I know he was
honored on the other side of the tokens.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
So you know, that's just what kind of man he was,
what type of owner he was.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
You know, this wasn't just a guy that owned the
team and that was it. You know, he he was
considered family by so many guys that played in Indianapolis.
You know, he was just a stand up guy and
passionate and oooh's love and and and just you know,
when you got around him, you felt you felt special.
(04:51):
He made you feel special.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
You know, Dwight, you had the the perspective of having
played for several different teams after the Colts, and therefore
several different owners. Many of the owners come differently. There's
there's no clear cut archetype, but he seemed to break
the mold in so many ways. What Nae mister ers
specifically unique for people who didn't know him, who only
knew him from a headline or from a video or
(05:16):
seeing him on game day, you knew him instantly.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
What made him unique from other owners?
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Well, you know, I think you know every obviously, you know,
everyone's different, right, and there isn't no any you know,
just standard of what you're supposed to be.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
As an owner.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
You're a person first, right, And I think for Jim,
you know, Jim was one of those guys that you know,
he understood the business.
Speaker 5 (05:39):
You know, he's been around the business.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
He he didn't he wasn't in the meeting rooms, you know,
trying to change schemes or any of that stuff. But
he brought the right people in to run the organization
the way he ran that he wanted it to be ran,
and was ran to perfection in my opinion. You know,
the way that he was so different was the fact
that you know, he was just one of those guys
(06:01):
will tell you how you fit, how he feels.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
You know. He wasn't to hide it.
Speaker 7 (06:05):
You know.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
He was a passionate guy. You know, but I.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Would say, even even him just telling how it feels,
it always kind of had a positive spin to it.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
And that's what I always remember him as. Just a
positive guy.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
You know, and you know Glass, you know, full not
empty type of guy. So you know, those are the
beautiful things and the great things I always remember out him.
It's just that he always wanted, you know, to just
make things better in the world for an organization. Uh,
just kind of one of those guys, like not many people,
(06:41):
you know, when you get in that type of position,
you know, you could kind of sit back and say, well,
I've made it, I've done it.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
You know, there's nothing else for me to thieve.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
And he wasn't that, you know, an advocate for mental
health and he always wanted to make the world better.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Yeah, you talked about how he was an advocate for
mental health, and you talked about how you're going to
remember him. How do you think that he would want
to be remembered Dwight?
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Yeah, you know, just I think, you know, thinking about him,
you know, I think you just wanted to be remembered
as someone who's who loved deeply and he was passionate
about the things that he wasn't involved in.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
Yeah, he wasn't perfect, who is, but you know he
lived life.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
He lived life to the fullest, and you know he
wanted to be in a better place and bring everything
to a better place. And I think we're all better
to have Jim in our lives, Dwight.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Once again, we just want to thank you, Kyle and
myself for coming on and sharing your memories this morning,
because we know that it's a significant loss for you,
for the entire cult community. So we are thinking of
you all and we really appreciate it this morning, Dwight.
Speaker 5 (07:52):
All right, thank you for having me.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
We continue to remember and celebrate the life of Jim Ersay.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
He will be missed.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
As Dwight Freeny just said, he was the horseshoe. We
continue to him throughout the morning here on GMFB.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Good Morning Football.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
The forty nine Ers and quarterback Rock Purty agreed to
terms on a five year, two hundred and sixty five.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Million dollar deal.
Speaker 7 (08:27):
According to the NFL Network Insiders, he and Rappaport Mike
Carafolo and Tom Pallisero. Purdy, who was about to enter
his fourth season, was to five point three four million
in the upcoming final year of his rookie deal. He
also received a full no trade clause for the duration
of the deal, sources tell the Insiders.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
So check this out.
Speaker 7 (08:49):
He's going to receive one hundred and eighty one million
in total guarantees, including one hundred and sixty five point
oh five those five cents.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
That's a huge deal million in the.
Speaker 7 (08:59):
First three years of a deal that runs through the
twenty thirty season. His fifty three million dollar average per
year salary is tied to the seventh highest in the NFL,
according to the website Over the Cap. So let's talk
about thoughts on.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
The Rock Party deal.
Speaker 7 (09:16):
Two hundred and sixty five billion dollars. A lot of
people chirping out there that he wasn't worth It seems
like he absolutely deserved what he got paid.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
So Kyle Got's.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Start with you well first and foremost, and listen. This
has been out a few days. It came on on Friday.
I'm super happy for Brock Purty. It's a cool story.
You can make a Disney movie about it. It's amazing,
all very very positive. I'm not happy for him.
Speaker 6 (09:38):
You look at it.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
One hundred and eighty one million guaranteed and not the
no trade. He just has everything. Now, is there anything
in this for brock Party that is not wonderful and great?
Everything changed. His whole life is different, The whole team
is different, His whole world is different.
Speaker 6 (09:53):
Grant Coan read a great piece on this for SI.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
He is now the seventh highest paid player in the league.
He's maybe the seventh best player on the forty nine ers.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
This whole darling of.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Like, wow, we have this quarterback who makes as much
as a long snapper and it's such a sweet little story,
and let's talk all about it and charm me in
a mister irrelevant. That has all gone now, it's expectations now.
It's like, that's all that sweet little montage we went
through with you is done.
Speaker 6 (10:21):
Now.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
We have to remember that there are only three quarterbacks
in the NFL who threw more interceptions in brock Party.
Last year, he was fifteenth in touchdown paces passes. He
was seventeenth in completion percentage. That's all fine. It's like
a car that's just sort of decent and gets you
from here to there, but you don't care because the
cars three. You just have to make insurance payments.
Speaker 6 (10:38):
That's it. This is now an aston Martin, this is
a Bentley.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
This is you have to compete with those we showed
those highest earning players. Those guys are Patrick Mahomes who
is the face of the league, Josh Allen who's the MVP,
Joe Burrow who completely annihilated everyone last year, and then
Trevor Lawrence, who was constantly looked at as you are
the one.
Speaker 6 (10:57):
Who was promised.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
So this is like the green day time of your life,
something unpredictable like that was a wonderful phase, Brock perty
and he went to a super Bowl. Now it's like,
go kill it because all those reasons the Niners were
good because of your old contract. If they're not good now,
that new contract will be blamed Los Angeles.
Speaker 6 (11:16):
Brock, tell me what you think.
Speaker 8 (11:18):
Man, I'm gonna be honest with you, you know, Brock
to Brock, you know, I wanted to definitely want to
see him get his money, you know, as a player,
but you know, I'm concerned to see this team kind
of be dismantled because of it. You know, you got
to pay a quarterback this money, and you lose key players,
you know, you leave, You lose Deebo Samuel, you lose Greenlaw,
(11:39):
you lose Leonard Floyd, you lose a lot of the
team that got you to the championship and got you
to the playoffs. So I'm very curious to see how that,
you know, how it handles this year.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
What do you think, WES?
Speaker 9 (11:54):
I came in this morning ready to be a hater, actually,
and then I thought about it for a little bit,
and I was, but I'm not gonna be It's tough
to Hey, do I think the NFC WES is shaking
in their boots?
Speaker 10 (12:06):
No?
Speaker 9 (12:07):
But then I was thinking about how many teams want
a quarterback that they trust and has proven that they
can get their team to Super Bowl. Would the Raiders
take brock Party probably? With the Titans like brock Party probably?
And the one eight it was one eighty one guaranteed
significantly less than what we're all going to see is
the two sixty five. They clearly trust him, and we
would just look at the list, and you brought up
(12:27):
Josh Allen Lamar, all of them, they haven't been to
a super Bowl. So he has proven it. Yes, the
roster's different, but they're in the building. They trust Brock
and they have someone they trust and they think can
get it done.
Speaker 11 (12:39):
So we'll see how they build around him.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Now, you're a guy who comes to like a fan,
all right, Like, so do I do like if your
team is playing Brock Party that week?
Speaker 5 (12:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (12:46):
Are you right?
Speaker 4 (12:47):
Right?
Speaker 6 (12:47):
Nervis?
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Now are you like, oh we got this or like,
how do you look at Brock Party as a fan?
Speaker 6 (12:52):
Well?
Speaker 11 (12:52):
That's no, okay, there you go right.
Speaker 9 (12:54):
Well that's why I think, Yeah, you wonder if other
teams are horrified of that contract.
Speaker 11 (12:59):
They're not.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
Probably you might be celebrating it.
Speaker 9 (13:02):
Yeah, but he's he can do it, and that's a
team that has gotten it done with not a revolving door. Necessarily,
it can be, but different dudes. He did it with
Jimmy g and then let's see what they can do now.
Speaker 6 (13:13):
Not hou See, that's where we come up and you
can win games, no doubt.
Speaker 7 (13:17):
Well, I mean I think that because he's mister Irrelevant,
he's going to wear that moniker forever, and then that
just adds some built in bias. But I think when
you look at this team in general, and everything.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
That they lost this year.
Speaker 7 (13:30):
At least they have the stability of having the same
quarterback and like they have to, they had no choice
but to pay him. It's not like he reset the
quarterback market, like you have to pay him somewhere in
that range just because of the nature of the position,
being a quarterback. But now going forward, you kind of
look at the Niners as a whole.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
They have the easiest strength of.
Speaker 7 (13:51):
Schedule in twenty twenty five. If you want to look
at what teams did last year, only three opponents this
upcoming season made the playoffs. Those teams the Rams twice
and then the Bucks plus the Texans as the four
games against last season's playoff teams. But remember the Saints
and the Falcons, they had the easiest schedules last.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
Year and they both missed the playoffs. So so much
changes year to year.
Speaker 7 (14:15):
Can the Niners be one of these teams that bounces back?
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Be the bounce back.
Speaker 7 (14:20):
Team of twenty twenty five? You mentioned some of the
players that they lost, also Shaverius Ward, Javon Hargrave, Talafungo,
who are talanoahu Funga?
Speaker 3 (14:30):
I mean, yeah, you're.
Speaker 7 (14:31):
Gonna get back Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Auk.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
And Trent Williams healthy.
Speaker 7 (14:36):
But that's asking a lot with a lot of turnover,
special on the defensive side.
Speaker 8 (14:40):
Absolutely absolutely, And like you said, it's hard to keep
these teams together when when people are getting paid. But
that's where it's up to the guys up up front,
you know, the front off is and the GMS and
things like that to build this team back up to
you know, to be you know, a contender this season.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Kyle, Yeah, I mean, we'll see they got again, everything
that they have done for the last three or four
years is now flipped. They would build their whole roster
because we have the cheapest quarterback in the league. Now
they have to build their whole roster as we have
one of the most expensive quarterbacks in league.
Speaker 6 (15:14):
Of course guys are going to go. It's guys.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
They had a window and they didn't cash it in.
That's how this works. And it's like his deal was
not like a C. D. Strouds deal or Kayleb Williams
rookie deal. It was like he made long snapper money.
It was absolutely incredible. They won the lottery in the
draft with a seventh round pick. They had a few
years to cash it in and they didn't do it
because they lost.
Speaker 6 (15:36):
To the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
So now it's like John Lynch has to go to
work and build his team like most teams.
Speaker 6 (15:41):
Sorry, you have a really expensive quarterback. Welcome to the NFL.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
I don't know when I see guys leaving. There's no
one who absolutely breaks my heart.
Speaker 6 (15:48):
I like those guys.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
I like Drake Greenlaw, I like Deebo Fine.
Speaker 6 (15:52):
I think Deebo was time to go. I know Drake
green Law had a huge injury. I'm not seeing names
there with that.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
I'm like, wow, I don't think Kyle Shanahanick can put
a team together.
Speaker 6 (15:59):
I think this is a six and the let I
don't think that at all.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
But again, there's no fill the seasons for Brockbirdy. Now
you have to be exceptional. There's no passenger stuff. There's
no hand at to McCaffrey be exceptional. I don't know
if he has that in him or not. But they
don't have a choice, and I don't know. I keep
saying engaging you as a fan West because I'm a fan.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
I hate so much. I detest the state of paying quarterbacks.
I think it is so stupid.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
I hate that there's not a middle class. I hate
this attitude of, well, you have to pay him, that's
the going rate, and I understand that it is, but
when I see that he is making money similar to
Josh Allen and his name is brock Perty, it's ludicrous.
He's a nice quarterback, don't get me wrong. I hate
that there is no reasonable thing about how about we
just pay him thirty one million out. No, it has
(16:45):
to be all the way up there or nothing. And
that's where we're at. And normally those teams, Josh Allen, Bengals,
those teams sometimes they can win because the quarterbacks that good.
Speaker 6 (16:53):
I don't know if the Niners is yet.
Speaker 9 (16:54):
You were just talking about windows, and my guess is
after the twenty nineteen Super Bowl with Jimmy g we
thought the forty nine.
Speaker 6 (17:02):
Ers window closed.
Speaker 11 (17:04):
I think they finished fourth the year after and the
NFC West.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
And they drafted Trey Lance Yeah yeah, at work.
Speaker 9 (17:09):
Yeah, And then we were like that windows because they
were fourth in the NFC West I think the year
after then third, So it sounds like their windows are
like these four year little let's lose in the Super
Bowl and then kind of figure things out again and
then get back to where they were. Jimmy g brought
loss to the Chiefs again, so they're due for losing
the Chiefs in the Super Bowl in two years, and
(17:31):
that to me more of a shanahand testament probably that
he can kind of rebuild if you give him three
four years after.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
There's a lot of windows talk about the Niners, like
this is not the first and last window talk with Yeah, exactly,
they windows and they're still here, multiple windows.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Yeah, pretty cool, that's true.
Speaker 7 (17:48):
I like the money aside, because Kyle, I know that
you detest the quarterback market, so everyone off your front lawn.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
Yes, I know.
Speaker 7 (17:57):
However, do you think that maybe he's actually worth more?
Is he underrated just in terms of what the public
opinion is of him and then kind of what he
actually does bring to this team in terms of leadership
and play well.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
It's kind of a cool opportunity for him because as
much as we love the fact that he's cheap for
the team, he is looked at still as this scrappy, little,
droopy eyed seventh round pick, the mister irrelevant thing.
Speaker 6 (18:20):
So he follows him around.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
It doesn't matter how well he plays it doesn't matter
that he played well in the super Bowl. Now you're
like that stuff should be over again. Turn the page
on that. Now you're the nine figure guy, and he.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
Does play well.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Like his stats last year, we're decent. They were average
compared to the rest of the league.
Speaker 6 (18:38):
But that's it.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Now you have to play so much better because all
these guys are leaving. I think he is a little
bit better than he gets credit for, but he has.
Speaker 6 (18:44):
To raise his game completely.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
I tried to come out here and like West was standing,
It's like, I don't want to hate.
Speaker 6 (18:49):
I hate. This is a wonderful story.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
It is a great dude who never says the wrong thing,
who every team passed on. Is like, oh my god,
I made it and we're just needling at as completion percentage.
I'm a jerk this morning. I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
It should be a positive.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Story, but I'm trying to at least answer the question honestly, Collin,
I know.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
And you're doing facial hair and interesting.
Speaker 9 (19:09):
He needs to grow facial hair and make the transition
from rookie contract.
Speaker 11 (19:13):
To now big boy contractor get into the baby.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
Face okay and be a big What should official hair be?
Speaker 11 (19:18):
What would you recommend. I think he just do like
a good four or five days stubble and the stubble.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Yeah, you're a grown man, all right? Wait real quick, though,
I don't even know if he can.
Speaker 7 (19:29):
What would he need to do to actually gain respect?
Like what at what point do people stop saying, okay, like.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Is he a system quarterback?
Speaker 7 (19:39):
Like?
Speaker 3 (19:39):
Is he really worth this money? Is he is?
Speaker 5 (19:41):
He?
Speaker 6 (19:41):
Is he?
Speaker 7 (19:42):
What does he need to do? Just win a Super Bowl?
Does that not even do it?
Speaker 4 (19:46):
Though?
Speaker 5 (19:46):
Right?
Speaker 8 (19:47):
I agree with Kyle. I think he has to outplay
the contract. You know, he has to go over in
the above. You know it's going to be a lot
of pressure on him too. And I know what type
of guy he is. You know, he wants to you know,
he wants the money, but he wants to show he
deserves the money. So you know, I hope he doesn't
put a ton of showing him just go out there
and play ball. A lot of people like you said,
(20:07):
you know, he's a system quarterback. But if you're a
system quarterback and you're winning, who cares? You know, who
cares you're winning games?
Speaker 7 (20:13):
So everyone, to a certain extent a system quarterback because
of the system sort of that they're in and the
players that are around them.
Speaker 8 (20:20):
Yeah, but like you, like you say, you got to outplay,
you got to off schedule throws, you know, different things
like that. So you definitely, like I say, outplay the contract,
and I think he'll be fine.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
Rock just be you.
Speaker 11 (20:30):
Yeah, Wes, Yeah, for sure, correct me if I'm wrong.
Speaker 9 (20:33):
But I think we compare people to their contracts ninety
five percent of the time just the year they sign it.
So like if he wins the Super Bowl whatever in
three or four years, we're not going to compare it
to what the contract is. Do it this year, Brock,
like ball out in the narrative and then have fun,
enjoy yourself.
Speaker 6 (20:50):
I hear it.
Speaker 9 (20:50):
But like we're talking about it now, we'll talk about
it this year, and that's when he's gonna I think
you silence some most people when you just sign the contract.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
And answer the question. Probably it's a West point like
win this year? Are we terrified of the West? Like
the Seattle TBD, Sam Darnell has a lot of questions Arizona.
We kind of keep waiting for Kyler to make a leap.
I don't know, Rams look good, but they have an
old quarterback like, I don't think this is the AFC West.
The AFC West is going to be killer this year.
The NFC Norse should be killed this year. The NFC West, Like,
(21:19):
if the Niners going to win it this year would
not shock me at all. I'm not predicting that. I'm
just saying that's not a crazy thing to consider it all.
I think it's sitting there for him, and they've been
around the block a million times.
Speaker 6 (21:28):
They should be successful this year.
Speaker 7 (21:30):
Brock, I know you're saying that's disrespectful, but also do
you think that the Cardinals are going to make the
jump this year?
Speaker 5 (21:36):
I mean.
Speaker 8 (21:38):
A ram I never was scared to go in Arizona.
I promised you that. But yeah, you definitely have to
look at it. I think the big dog in this
division of NFC West is the Rams. I mean you
talk about the Niners, but the team really making move building,
the team silently that nobody's really talking.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
About is the Rams.
Speaker 7 (21:57):
Yeah, that would be a plot twist if they didn't
come in.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
I got one important note, what one important note from
research here?
Speaker 6 (22:03):
Brock Purty to this.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Network NFL network goes on this West in twenty twenty
three that he shaves every two days, but his teammates
don't believe him. He think he doesn't shave because he
can't grow anything. So there is maybe a fly in
the ointment with your plan. I like your plan.
Speaker 11 (22:17):
Grow it out a little, it could help.
Speaker 6 (22:20):
He says, he shaves every two days.
Speaker 7 (22:21):
Wow, maybe we can find that clip for two weeks sat.
Speaker 12 (22:24):
About Good Morning Football First Down.
Speaker 7 (22:45):
On Monday, the Eagles announced head coach Nick Sirianni, fresh
off leading the franchise to its second Super Bowl win,
has agreed to terms on a multi year contract extension.
Team owner Jeffrey Laurie said in a statement, and a
cousin bodied everything we were looking for in a head
coach since we hired him four years ago. I'm excited
for what the future for the Philadelphia Eagles. So where
(23:08):
would you rank Nick Sirianni among NFL head coaches?
Speaker 3 (23:14):
This is an interesting one, Kyle.
Speaker 7 (23:16):
Can you start us off, because since you're wearing Kelly
Green anyway, thankes?
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Right right, yeah, And I'm going to say this. I'm
going to say this wearing the jersey. I would put
him in the top ten, all right, because all things
considered to go, if we really want to make a
bargament out of this. You have all thirty two head coaches,
and if they were to take the same roster and
the same team and everything, who would do the best
with them. I think that Nick siriann has an incredible
team and incredible roster, and that's not a slight at him.
(23:42):
He's been through some incredible stuff. Two Super Bowls. He
was there for the crazy collapse in twenty twenty three,
which is not great, but he was also there for
the complete rebuild and won the entire thing last year.
Speaker 6 (23:53):
I always say I still.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Sat Sean McVay coach to coach, is the best coach
in the NFL right now. But I think that Nick
Sirianni is the best coach.
Speaker 11 (24:00):
For the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
I think he is a fit for them, the climate,
the fa the players. I think he is a top
ten coach in the league right now, and I don't
think that's an insult. There's some fantastic coaches. Top ten
is pretty awesome.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
Man.
Speaker 8 (24:12):
I agree with Kyle, but only because you're only as
good as your last performance.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Man.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
You know, he just got off a Super Bowl win.
His team played phenomenal.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (24:21):
You know everybody thought the Kansas City Chief were gonna
win that game, and you know, his team comes out
and you know, puts a puts a spanking on the Chief.
So uh, you know, I think you have to put
him at the top just because of that reason. Then you,
like I said earlier, you're only as good as your
last performance. And he and he won the big game,
So you know, I think he has he deserves to
be at the top.
Speaker 13 (24:41):
I feel like, Brock, you didn't you didn't say what
you really wanted to say. For a second, he was
like he beat up, they put off.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
But I'm gonna I'm gonna say.
Speaker 13 (24:53):
Just based off of like you said, only good as
your last based on overall, I'm gonna say number two
for Sirianni obviously, Andy Reid number one, eleven conference championship appearances,
three Super Bowls. Number two for this team, like all
the personalities, you know, like you mentioned Kyle, all the changes,
the coordinator change is to reload every year, this team
has continually to improve every single year. You get Saquon
(25:16):
and he just goes lights out, doesn't miss it, beat
improving for Hurts, you know, his injuries and then also
his staff. So I think for him he is the
perfect person for this team, and he's maximizing it. We
can say Harrie roseman' is getting on these players, but
he's not messing it up.
Speaker 11 (25:31):
He is making the investment worthwhile.
Speaker 13 (25:33):
So he's number two, and I'm a huge Terum McVay fan,
you know he is. I think Pounerful Pound is overall
the best coach, but based on the rankings right now,
I'm gonna say, Sirianni.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Sirianni. He's emotional, he's passionate.
Speaker 7 (25:47):
He's sassy, he's spicy, he's petty, which I love all.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Of these things.
Speaker 7 (25:52):
Yeah, he might not be for everyone, but his record
is the most important thing.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
And I do kind of feel like he's.
Speaker 7 (25:59):
Going to be one of these coaches, at least for
Philadelphia fans, where you go through the era with him
there and then it's not until you look back and
realize how great those years were and just what a
wonderful head coach he was, because you're kind of like
living by the moments and everything else. But obviously, with
the Super Bowl win, I think people should be very
happy with him in general.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Let's go to our second down.
Speaker 7 (26:23):
Cardinals second year wide out Marvin Harrison Junior weighed two
hundred and nine pounds last season and doesn't officially get
weighed again until mandatory mini camp next month.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
When he met the media yesterday, he.
Speaker 7 (26:34):
Declined to say a specific current number he's at right now,
only that he put on some good pounds.
Speaker 10 (26:45):
I definitely put on some pounds. I think I added
some muscle to my body a little bit. Still just
trying to see my body, you know, it feels throughout
OTAs andout training camp, more so throughout OTAs, and then
kind of get a specific weight to settle in for
training camp and go from there.
Speaker 7 (27:02):
Oh wait, talk season, it's coming up.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Call about training camp. Love, but can't wait, So I need.
Speaker 7 (27:07):
You guys to finish the following statement here. Will you're
gonna go first? The twenty twenty five Cardinals.
Speaker 13 (27:12):
Will be like they will be the dark horse in
the NFC, And I go this solely based on the
health and availability of Kyler Murray.
Speaker 6 (27:20):
He is, I think, after.
Speaker 13 (27:22):
Lamar Jackson, after Josh Allen, he might be the scariest
quarterback to face. He's back to now obviously does a
great job throwing the ball, but he's running the football
again effectively. Ever since I think the second year where
he ran for I think almost you know, eight hundred yards.
He's now had his second most in terms of running football.
And I just based on what he does and run
the football O'Connors and then get into football to his receivers.
(27:45):
And the defense is playing.
Speaker 6 (27:46):
Very very well.
Speaker 13 (27:47):
I mean, they were a sneaky eight and nine last year,
so I feel like this could be a dark horse
in the NFC and definitely contending for the NFC West.
Speaker 6 (27:54):
So that's what I have for the Cardinals.
Speaker 8 (27:57):
The twenty twenty five Cardinals will be and I have
here competing for a second or third place in that
division just because I played in that division for years
and never seen Arizona as a threat. So I mean
it was a casual Sunday to go in Arizona and
(28:18):
just beat them down.
Speaker 6 (28:19):
So yeah, no Rams all day here.
Speaker 8 (28:21):
So I definitely see them competing for second or third place.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
In twenty twenty five. And I'm done. I'm done.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
The twenty twenty five Cardinals will be a wildcard team.
I'll say it now, I'll say it again in September.
I think they will be a wildcard team this year.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
I said it last year. They weren't. I wasn't right.
They doubled their win total last year.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
You think it's a forgettable season, and I know the Cardinals,
or maybe you don't come out and neon in the
bright lights as much as you.
Speaker 6 (28:48):
Need them to. I don't care. I like their coach,
I like their quarterback. I like the run game. I
like how tough they play.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Again, they doubled their win total from being a really
poor record and before wins the year before. There's not
a lot of teams you can do that and tell
me who you are absolutely in love with in the
NFC West two. Are you sure the Niners that have
all the juice with the players that they've lost. Are
you ready to sign up for the Sam Darnold Seahawks.
I like the Cardinals. I think the Cards will be
a wildcard team. I don't apologize for it. Come back,
(29:16):
come back four months from now. I'll stay it in September.
Speaker 7 (29:18):
Well, it would definitely be something different because Kyler Murray,
his career highs live in the year two thousand at
this point, and we've seen his struggles with DeAndre Hopkins
twenty twenty, and we've seen him struggle with Marquise Brown
had a hard time with the rookie who we're even
talking about right now last year, Marvin Harrison Junior.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
I'm really interested to see how.
Speaker 7 (29:39):
The jump that they make and where they are in
the division in general.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
So we got to wait to see that one.
Speaker 7 (29:44):
How about third down, it's ne're wondering about how Cowboys
star Ceedee Lamb feels about the whole wide receiver one
debate for Dallas.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Take a listen to him and George Pickens.
Speaker 7 (29:55):
From Kyler Murray's charity softball game over the weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Speaker 11 (30:00):
The code number ones.
Speaker 5 (30:03):
Oh doubt both one.
Speaker 6 (30:04):
Yeah, it ain't no, Abe, none of that is one.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
You look over there, you see one. You look over here,
you see another one. So do what you gotta do
with that.
Speaker 13 (30:14):
Right now, I'm thinking about how I'm gonna hit the
home run. I ain't really, We're trying to focus on
how we're going to dominate this softball game.
Speaker 9 (30:22):
Every time we want to field, were trying to dominate together,
so right now we're not.
Speaker 6 (30:25):
We now I want to field for football.
Speaker 7 (30:28):
Okay, I love this entergy. First of all, that's great.
George Pickens answer was also perfect.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
He's just he just.
Speaker 7 (30:34):
Really wants to dominate any sport that he's doing in
that exact moment, he's living in the present. Because the
Cowboys dynamic duo got us thinking best NBA jam comp
to new Cowboys ride receivers, Lamb and Pickens. Kyle, I
know that this is sort of your corner, so let's go.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
Oh.
Speaker 11 (30:51):
I love this.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
First of all, I would like to know how did
George Pickens doing that at bat? Did he hit did
he hit a home run? Did he make contact? Like
we look into that somehow and see how we did something?
How Pickens bad? Was he two for three? What was
his all? It was war guys. Nineteen ninety three, the
first NBA jam came out. I remember it very well,
and I remember that, for some reason, the coolest team
(31:14):
in the NBA, other than the Bulls was the Charlotte Hornets.
Everybody had the Charlotte Horners starter. Everybody like the Jerseys.
And that is why for my comp a NBA jam,
I'm going to go with Larry Johnson and Kendall Gill.
Speaker 6 (31:28):
This is Grandmama who.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Had a shoe deal with convers Look at him on
the left right out of unl via the running wraps,
and then Kendall Gill.
Speaker 6 (31:37):
Now who's who I think.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Certainly Ceedee Lamb is Larry Johnson, just pure talent size,
physical specimen. And then Kendall Gill is George Pickens, a
little unpredictable.
Speaker 6 (31:46):
And I hate to have to bring this up.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
But after basketball, Kendall Gill did get into the fight
game and he exited the fight game in about twelve seconds.
Speaker 6 (31:54):
It was not a great ending for him.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
But I know Pickens likes to scrap sometimes, and I
look at those hats, and I look at those two guys.
Speaker 6 (32:01):
And I see him that way.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
I was tempted to go Sean Kemp and Benoit Benja,
but they didn't pair Kemp with that left shrimp yet
who was still on the Pacers with Reggie Miller. So
I'll go with my Hornets because the Hornets were so
cool in ninety three.
Speaker 13 (32:12):
He's en up right, I'm gonna stick with the same
theme here.
Speaker 6 (32:19):
I'm gonna go bad Boys.
Speaker 13 (32:20):
I'm gonna go Detroit Pistons. Isaiah Thomas being like the finasty,
all out lightning player I got to coach with the Cowboys.
So I saw Ceedee Lamb up and up close in person,
and he is easily one of the best athletes on
the field or I've ever seen.
Speaker 6 (32:33):
And you got Bill and Beer. We mentioned unpredictable. He's
beyond unpredictable.
Speaker 13 (32:37):
He's just absolutely crazy, but still a sure fine, unbelievable talent.
And that's who you got there. You got the finesse,
you got the dog, and then.
Speaker 6 (32:45):
You got Lambberd Pickings. You just don't know what's gonna happen.
Speaker 13 (32:49):
Still be effector and productive, but you gotta find a
way to just manage because you don't know what's gonna happen.
Speaker 8 (32:54):
Man, I'm gonna go with you know, not the nineties.
I see, I see what you get where you went there,
you went back in the nineties. I'm gonna go something
that a little bit. Two thousands, early two thousands, I
had the Portland trail Blazers, but I had Darius Miles
and Quentin Jefferson just because I feel like those were
two guys.
Speaker 6 (33:10):
Above the rim type players.
Speaker 8 (33:12):
And when I think about George Pickens, I think about
Ceedee Lamb, I think about them, you know, dunking and
you know, catching the ball, going up for jump balls
in a touchdown. So when I'm thinking about a combo
of two guys, you know, you think about Dak you know,
having the option of going over here having number one,
then going on to the other side and having the
number one, so to each his own, man, I think
both of them to go out there and do their thing.
(33:33):
But yeah, Darius Miles and Quentin Jefson, that's.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
Why I went with.
Speaker 7 (33:36):
I mean, maybe a little Moses Malone and Julius Servin.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
I could go like way back and go.
Speaker 7 (33:43):
Way bet go Allan Iverson and Andrea Goodala.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
Yeah, I got an important research update. Researcher Lakwan says
he was watching video of the softball game, and he says,
George Pickens struck out swinging. So it's not easy to
strike out in softball, but apparently that's what happened, and
I have to go with that.
Speaker 6 (34:04):
Sorry, Well, at least.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
It wasn't with the bat on his shoulder. At least
he was swinging.
Speaker 7 (34:07):
Okay, if you're gonna go down, yeah, you gotta swing, Okay.
Speaker 6 (34:15):
Good morning football,
