Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Good Morning Football.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Aaron Rodgers took part in the first day of Steelers
mandatory mini camp yesterday in September. You will become the
six QB since nineteen fifty. The debut was a starter
for a new team. At age forty one or older.
The four time MVP is entering season twenty one, about
to suit up for his thirteen in four seasons. So, Aaron,
why do you want to keep playing?
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Man?
Speaker 5 (00:48):
I don't need it for my ego. I don't need
it to keep playing a lot of decisions that I've
made over my career in life, from strictly to ego,
even if they turn out well or always unfulfilling, but
the decisions made from this are usually pretty fulfilling. So
this was a decision that was best for my soul.
(01:09):
And I felt like being here with Coach t and
the guys they got here and the opportunity here was
the best for me, and and I'm excited to be here.
Speaker 6 (01:18):
See now, decisions from the soul.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
This is starting to sound like the Aaron Rodgers that
we know and oftentimes tolerate throughout the season. But you
know what, I feel like he meant that. I feel
like he meant that, Isaiah, Let's start with you decision
from the soul best place to really.
Speaker 6 (01:31):
Search listen to.
Speaker 7 (01:33):
We know that Aaron Rodgers is not afraid to do
some soul searching. But we also know that Aaron Rodgers
now has a Brittany with an eye in his life,
and whatever whoever this Brittany is has has created a
new version of Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
That I like.
Speaker 6 (01:45):
I like it.
Speaker 7 (01:45):
It feels like everything that comes from out of his
mouth right now his heart felt right.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
It comes from his soul right and that's what he's
saying right now.
Speaker 7 (01:52):
And I love the fact that he seems like he's.
Speaker 6 (01:54):
Purpose driven right now.
Speaker 7 (01:55):
Not to say that he hasn't been in his career before,
but there's something different right now with Aaron Rodgers. When
he's speaking, there's there's a there's an ambiance that he
has about him that he is so focused right now
about this time in his life that he wants to
close the chapter. I truly believe that you know that
one is not enough for him. He wants to go
out there and secure the bag. And I'm not talking
about the bag. He's talking about securing another ring. Okay,
(02:17):
he has one on his left hand, now he wants
to put one on his right hand. But I think
that he is purpose driven right now. There's a good
book called purpose Driven Life. But I think he's been
reading something that has him focused right now. And I
think it's a good time for him to be with Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Well, Pittsburgh Nation, Welcome to the Soul train, right, a
little show from back in the eighties that you guys
need to go check out there it is. But no,
I'm happy for him. I'm like, when can you just
go out on your own terms?
Speaker 8 (02:42):
Right?
Speaker 4 (02:42):
All of those football players we want to play as
long as possible, want to play as good as long
as possible, and they're giving him an opportunity. I don't
think it's any more that has to do with Okay, well,
it's about this money, and it's about we'll have to
leave a legacy, like I'm going to live my dream.
I'm still a kid at heart. I'm still that twenty
two year old, you know, trying to go out there
and impress teammates. Like that's what it's about for him
(03:03):
right now. I think when you're more at peace of
that side of your of the position of your profession.
I think you're just having a good life, you know,
and why let somebody else come in and say, hey, no,
you need to be done with it.
Speaker 6 (03:15):
You're too old to do this. Like go have fun.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
He's enjoying himself, and you're when you can enjoy and
enjoy yourself in this part of a stressful business, right
then you're doing You're doing something.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
I'll tell you what, hatch. I got memories when I
was a kid.
Speaker 9 (03:30):
I was sitting on the carpet watching TV and I'd
be watching cartoons or something, and the cartoons would end
and Soul Train would come.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
On and Don Cornelia would walk out in that suit
and the microphone. I was like, wow, yes, something changed
to me. And I kind of like that. Let him cook.
Speaker 9 (03:47):
I like soul Train. I love that you brought that up.
Don Cornelia has hosted that show for like nearly a
quarter century. He was doing that thing still in the nineties.
That was an amazing, amazing institution. I could talk Soul
Train all day quickly. I just hope I can, sometime
in my life get to a point where I can
make my decision.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
From the soul. That is a nice luxury to be
able to.
Speaker 9 (04:07):
Most people are taking jobs because, you know, they got
to make their car payment, like this is he is like,
I don't need it.
Speaker 6 (04:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (04:14):
It's not for this, it's not for that. It's just
from the soul. I don't even really know what that means.
It's like when someone says I'm not religious, I'm spiritual.
I don't know what that means either. But I know
that Rogers seems content. He's wired differently, and he is
an incredible job. The fact that the Steelers, the bedrock
franchise of this entire league, want to bring him in
(04:35):
to be the starter unquestioned in his twenty first season
is an incredible, incredible accomplishment, no matter where it came from.
I don't know if any of us at the table
are making decisions from our soul, but none of us
are Rogers. Congratulations.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Would I would love to be able to make a
decision not based on my mortgage?
Speaker 6 (04:53):
Okay please?
Speaker 10 (04:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
It kind of goes back to a person who doesn't
work out or who works out. Right, you have a
thirty year old person who says I'm to go to
the gym today. I don't have nothing, I don't have
a not you personally. Sorry, I didn't even take a jab,
but I did, you know. But if you know again,
you don't have nothing coming up, you don't have a
marathon to run, you don't have you know, a competition
(05:17):
to do, but you still go to the gym, right
because you love it.
Speaker 11 (05:21):
Right.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
But then there's the people that says, oh, I have
to get ready, I have to do it. He's not
in that space. He's like, I get to go play
football today. And I think that's what he's loving it
about the situation.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Love for him.
Speaker 7 (05:30):
It seems like it's it's more than just about him
right now. Like I said, when I say like the
purpose driven aspect of it, there's a sense, right, there's
a sense, and we can speculate to ask to what
it is. But there's a sense that it's not just
about him anymore. He's not just chasing this for him.
And matter of fact, he mentioned it an in pest conference.
This is not self indulging, This is not about money,
This isn't about ego. Right, There's something else there that
(05:52):
he's that he's now doing it for it.
Speaker 6 (05:54):
Maybe it's the lady in his life.
Speaker 7 (05:55):
I don't know, but he has a drive in or
about him that is like, you know what, this might
be the most dangerous version of Aaron Rodgers that we've
ever seen.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
I predicted an evolution and by the time we got
to the start of the season.
Speaker 12 (06:07):
Benevin last year on Good Morning Football, And of course
it's always fun when you have a culinary wizard like
David Chang and set with us. And David, one of
your claims to fame is the pork belly sandwich super tasty.
Ian Rappleport told us he tried that not to mention
the ramen back in New York. I've had the pork
belly and the Ramen in New York as well. But
we are going to base an entire segment on this sandwich. So, David,
(06:27):
you got the four ingredients that make this sandwich. We're
going to pick some players that sort of correspond to
the fits of those descriptions.
Speaker 13 (06:34):
We call it bun intended.
Speaker 6 (06:37):
See the pun.
Speaker 12 (06:38):
That's all right, let's start with the actual bun. So
tell me why this ingredient is important, and like what
it means is we're thinking about some of our quarterbacks.
Speaker 10 (06:47):
Well, the steam bun and I think that's the most
important description here is it's not baked, it's steamed, and
it's eleven, so there's yeastern it it's soft, it's pillowy
on the outside, but sturdy enough to hold this whole
thing together. So it is the most distinctive part of
the sand which and uh, I think I would love
(07:07):
to hear what the quarterback or running back or wide receivers.
Speaker 13 (07:11):
All right, what do you go?
Speaker 6 (07:11):
Okay, I'll see what you did there.
Speaker 7 (07:13):
I'm not sure that this dude is all soft and
cuddy and stuff, but I can tell you that he
holds things together and without him everything will fall apart.
And I'm gonna go with Josh Allen, quarterback of the
Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
He is that guy.
Speaker 7 (07:24):
Everything has to go through him, no matter what you
put around him, everything goes in between, and he just
push that sales together.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
That's it.
Speaker 13 (07:30):
I like the sturdiness factor that's there, you know.
Speaker 12 (07:33):
For me, justin Herbert, I don't feel like we talk
enough about this dude here at NFL Network. You want
to talk about sturdy and what would happen to that
team's offense without Herbert? There, I watched every single one
of his college games when he is at Oregon, strongest arm,
at least in my mind.
Speaker 6 (07:47):
In the NFL, I'm.
Speaker 12 (07:48):
Gonna go with the dude who plays right across the
street at so Far Stadium, Kyle, who's your bun?
Speaker 6 (07:52):
Well? This is easy?
Speaker 9 (07:53):
I mean for me, if if we're talking buns, this
guy gets his toush pushed. It's the most famous buns
in sports. I'm gonna go with Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
It's easy.
Speaker 9 (08:02):
Just pushed them right there on the plan to the
end zone.
Speaker 6 (08:05):
Jalen Hurts, that's easy one for me. Oh, I like
that one.
Speaker 12 (08:08):
That strong move by you, and you kept it Newsy
as well, David. Now the bun is obviously important, but
you need some meat here. The pork itself, the significance.
Speaker 10 (08:17):
Is it's it's we call it pork belly. People might
call it fresh bacon, and so it's layered with fat
and just juicy, unctuous pieces of pork. And listen, if
you cut a slap, you cured it in salt and
sugar and then you slow roast it and then it's
sort of confe's and that means it's cooking in its
own fat. And it gets just succulent and delicious. It's sturdy,
(08:40):
it's sort of plotting, it's all of these things that
you would never expect, but you can't eat so much
of it.
Speaker 6 (08:46):
But it is probably the.
Speaker 10 (08:47):
Star of the show as well.
Speaker 7 (08:49):
I like thirty star of the show is really the
foundation of a sandwich, Dereck Henry.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
Yeah, Derrick Harry.
Speaker 7 (08:57):
You can't have a Baltimore Raven sandwich went out Dairy
Henry beer right in the middle. That they making sure
that everything comes together just right.
Speaker 13 (09:06):
Yeah, good, good. There's a sturdiness factor that's there. I
like where you went with this.
Speaker 12 (09:11):
I'm gonna roll with a guy who haven't even seen
playing in an NFL game just yet. He was electric
when he was in college, Ashton Genty. I think he
is going to be more than sturdy as an NFL player.
No one had more mistackles than him. I think you
sometimes need a little bit of punch from one of
the main ingredients to pork belly.
Speaker 13 (09:26):
For me, I'm gonna go with Genty. Kyle, who's your meat?
Speaker 9 (09:30):
Well, if we're talking to pork belly, I want a
guy who has kind of a belly. I'm actually gonna
go with AJ Dillon and the Philadelphia.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
Eagles formerly the Packers.
Speaker 9 (09:38):
Now AJ Dillon does not have some big old belly
that hangs over the belt like Jerome Bennis did back
in the day. But there really aren't that many running
backs like that now at all. I just want someone
who is big. I want someone who's gonna be the
pork who looks like they like to eat pork, some
AJ Dillon who also will be involved with the goal line,
just like my guy, mister Bunn's over here.
Speaker 6 (09:55):
So I'm going all Eagles goal line stuff.
Speaker 13 (09:57):
Third ingredient here, David the pickled cucumbers. It feels like
it's a compliment, right, Well, it's a unique thing.
Speaker 10 (10:05):
I think pickles are great, and burgers and sandwiches in general,
but you need it. It's the piece that you don't
realize you need till after the fact. So sometimes pickles
are salty or sweet or both. Listen. It's the ingredient
that has one important or two important roles and often
gets overlooked two.
Speaker 7 (10:24):
Important roles and often gets over I'm not gonna say
this dude gets overlooked, but this dude does get over
the secondary and he has two things that he's responsible
for catching the ball and scoring touchdowns. Justin Jefferson for
the Minnesota Vikings is my pick for the pickle cucumbers
because this dude catches balls, catches mixed touchdowns, and he
just is the garnish that goes on the.
Speaker 6 (10:45):
Top on the secondary.
Speaker 12 (10:46):
All Right, So look, you pick arguably the best wide
receiver in the NFL, which is fine. There was an
ingredient to the Giants offense that they needed desperately last season,
and they got that in a rookie in Theleak Neighbors.
Give me the dude who all of a sudden, I'm
watching the team, Kyle, and I'm seeing explosive plays in
an offense that I didn't see two years ago.
Speaker 13 (11:05):
So for me, the pickle cucumber, which is weird to say,
is Malik Neighbors.
Speaker 6 (11:10):
It is.
Speaker 9 (11:11):
It is weird to say, and it's a weird food
and it's weird to eat. That's what makes it fun.
That's why I'm going with DK Metcalf. I think DK
Metcalf's kind of weird guy in a really good way,
eccentric original. We've seen a lot of the stuff about
his diet is basically gummy worms and peanut butter cups.
Speaker 6 (11:27):
So I think he could use a little.
Speaker 9 (11:29):
Cucumber in his diet. And now that he's got a
new quarterback, he was going to get even weirder. They're
going to get pickled together. So I say, Dk metcalf.
Speaker 13 (11:35):
All, you got to drizzle a little sauce on this guy, right, David.
Speaker 10 (11:37):
Absolutely so Hoisten, which is maybe not familiar to everybody,
but it is a beautiful, dark sauce.
Speaker 6 (11:44):
That's tangy sweet.
Speaker 10 (11:46):
It is the thing that ties it all together. It
is the secret ingredient of this sandwich, the steampork, but
secret ingredient.
Speaker 7 (11:54):
Is Okay, I'm not going to say that this guy
is dark and lovely. He's probably the opposite of that.
His name is dan Quinn, But dan Quinn is the sauce.
Dan Quinn is the sauce that keeps the we're watching
the commanders going.
Speaker 6 (12:05):
As you well know, I think.
Speaker 12 (12:07):
You sometimes need a little bit of a guru, so
to speak, to piece things together. Sean McVay is the
guy that I think is the glue that holds the
rams together. Offensive mastermind that's out there, got eight playoff
wins before the age of forty.
Speaker 13 (12:21):
Sign me up for that sauce.
Speaker 6 (12:23):
Kyle.
Speaker 9 (12:23):
I think he's the best coach in the league. He's
just McVeigh. It's just such a jock. He's got that
meat headedness to him. I want someone who goes the
other way. If I'm thinking sauce, I'm going down to
Miami and it's Mike McDaniel with those sunglasses and those
pants and.
Speaker 6 (12:37):
That weird around the way delivery and voice.
Speaker 9 (12:40):
Like he is just the kind of sauce you add
to the sandwich at the end of being like, that's
kind of weird and different, but I like it.
Speaker 8 (12:45):
That's my guy.
Speaker 6 (12:46):
That's a good one.
Speaker 12 (12:46):
As I was like thinking about some of my picks,
I'm not gonna lie. I thought I knew where you
guys were going to go, so I was trying to
go off the big hat.
Speaker 6 (12:53):
Not shabby.
Speaker 12 (12:54):
The collection here of players a little bit of a
recap for you.
Speaker 13 (12:59):
This is a little bit of.
Speaker 6 (12:59):
A who's who though.
Speaker 9 (13:00):
Yeah, I like that.
Speaker 8 (13:01):
I like that list a lot.
Speaker 6 (13:02):
I like my list a lot.
Speaker 7 (13:03):
I don't know how you guys feilds yours.
Speaker 10 (13:05):
I mean, I gotta choose a winner.
Speaker 6 (13:07):
I think Kyle has it. Yes, I'm sorry.
Speaker 9 (13:13):
I had the thing one after my Jalen Hurts answer,
and you guys know what, the rest of the segment
was just playing out.
Speaker 12 (13:17):
That's fine, but it did feel like cheating that you
had a prop for your Jalen Hurts selection there and
you flashed it.
Speaker 6 (13:24):
But there it is the look that's really hard.
Speaker 12 (13:28):
But I'm glad together so we're getting good use out
of all of this stuff. Well done by you, Kyle,
You've been crowned the champion.
Speaker 6 (13:40):
Good morning, Good.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Morning, grounds minicamp kicked off today, so let's touch straight there.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
It's a brand.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
See how things are going with our body new friends
of the show, Brown's cornerback, Greg knew some the second Proud.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Money money.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
All right, Greg, I'm gonna I'm gonna put you like
one of our reporters and ask you the very first
question we always do set the scene for us. What
is the vibe in the building right now, especially today
over there in Brea.
Speaker 8 (14:19):
Yeah, the vibes are very high right now.
Speaker 14 (14:22):
I think we had a great start to Ota one,
two and three, and now going into mandatory mini camp,
just getting everybody back in the building, it's going to
be it's gonna be a great.
Speaker 8 (14:32):
Day to day.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
There you go.
Speaker 7 (14:34):
All right, man, we have to ask you, do you
know all the QB situation? You guys have had cameras
all over the place.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
You guys have about seventeen qbs on the depth chart.
Speaker 7 (14:41):
We need to know from the defensive perspective, give us
an idea of how you have perceived all these guys
to be different.
Speaker 8 (14:47):
Right, you got.
Speaker 7 (14:47):
Flaco, you got Picket, you got Gabriel.
Speaker 6 (14:50):
You got Sanders.
Speaker 7 (14:51):
What have you seen from these guys from then the
entire depth chart from the defensive side of the ball.
Speaker 8 (14:56):
Yeah, like you said, I think they're all different.
Speaker 14 (14:59):
You've got Flacco, who's a season that still has an
incredible arm, can make pretty much any throw. I mean,
you got Kenny Pickett, who's who's a proven guy who's
one games in this league, a guy who's not going
to make too many mistakes. Then you got the two
young Bulls and Dylan, Gabriel and Shador, which has been
fun to watch them grow and they all do something
(15:21):
a little bit different.
Speaker 8 (15:22):
So it's been.
Speaker 14 (15:23):
Amazing just to watch and we're super excited because I
feel like with competition, you're going to bring the best
out of everybody.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
Greg shout out one of them who's looked really good.
Who have you liked? You're watching these guys who looks sharp?
Speaker 8 (15:36):
Yeah, I like.
Speaker 14 (15:38):
Obviously I haven't went against Shador too much, but you know,
just watching the film and everything, he's been doing an amazing,
amazing job. And then the rets Dylan has been getting
against us and Shoe and really everybody been doing a
pretty good job. But I think everybody commands the offense
in different ways, so it's been super fun to watch
them all go.
Speaker 6 (15:58):
Yeah, I bet it has.
Speaker 9 (15:59):
You know, Shador is this thing where he he might
be the most famous fifth round pick and you as
a corner, like his dad is Dion, and he's just
he's this culture personality and he's everywhere.
Speaker 6 (16:11):
What is he like just as a guy? As a teammate,
what's it been like?
Speaker 14 (16:15):
Yeah, No, he's been amazing a sponge, I would say,
it's just crazy that guy is young with this much
notoriety can just handle media and and things like that.
Speaker 8 (16:26):
I think his.
Speaker 14 (16:27):
Dad has really taught him how, you know, to be
that guy in the spotlight and understand that what comes
with it. And I think he's been doing an incredible
job of just learning and getting better each day.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Nice Hey, also on the defensive side, right, you guys
just signed Miles Garrett of course to a monster deal.
Like what type of type of teammates he's been in
locker room lately?
Speaker 8 (16:50):
Yeah, he's a monster.
Speaker 14 (16:52):
He brings a lot of energy to his locker room
where people don't see behind the scenes, like just always
playing with everybody. He's a guy easily reachable to everybody
on the on the team, not just the defense. He's
not just a guy that says to himself. He's a
guy that brings the energy and is a he's a
huge leader for us out there on the field.
Speaker 7 (17:12):
All right, I have to ask you this question, man,
You the game of football, right, we visualize a lot, right,
we man to kind of manifest us making plays. And
now all of a sudden, you know, your division rival
goes out there and science Aaron Rodgers a k A
a a ron a John Wick. And have you visualized
yourself picking off Aaron Rodgers? And if so, give us
a rundown of how that how that kind of played out?
Speaker 8 (17:34):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 14 (17:36):
You know it's the Steelers, you know, that's that's our
that's our hard nemesis. So definitely see that happening both
in Cleveland and in Pittsburgh, so you know it can
happen in the multitude of ways. A tip passed by
some of the great d linemen, we got just a
great play, you know against a guy like DK Metcalf
(17:56):
and Friar moved.
Speaker 8 (17:57):
So I think there's a lot of different ways.
Speaker 14 (17:59):
But I'm super excited because I think, you know, this
is the best division in football, so.
Speaker 8 (18:04):
And a guy like him, she's gonna make it even tougher.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
So I grew up in Cleveland, so I hated the Browns.
My favorite team was the Steelers, as crazy as that sounds.
But so again, now you have Rogers in the conference,
I have Burrow and Lamar of course, so rank them
from three to one.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
Which one would you most want.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
To get a pick off of? And any of these
like you know, like a ball that you would get signed,
take home or anything like that.
Speaker 8 (18:32):
Yeah, for sure. Well since I got Lamar.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
I got him.
Speaker 8 (18:35):
Okay, well we'll take him down a little bit.
Speaker 14 (18:38):
Yeah, but you know, I'm gonna go Joe Burrow first
just because we played in Week one, so you know,
I'm trying to I'm trying to get off to a
great start. Yeah, he's a guy that I love going
against my entire career and has been super fun. And
then honestly A rides right there up there with him.
That's a guy that's you know, one of the top
five greatest quarterbacks ever.
Speaker 8 (18:59):
Lace him up so that that'll be super amazing too.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Well, let's put this on the own air right now.
If you pick off a Rod, we're gonna get you
a jersey swap off after the game with a Rod
if you pick them off.
Speaker 8 (19:11):
Yeah, I definitely.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Are you making guarantees here?
Speaker 6 (19:16):
Yeah? I don't know. I will not be there and
to have nothing to do with it.
Speaker 7 (19:19):
So yeah, I'm just like, let's walk in it now.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
He said it.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
I mean, we're not making those kind of guarantees. But
jerseys leads right into what I'm very curious about for sure,
because you know, I love a tunnel fit and I
need to get your take on one from last year.
Because your girl just went to the Cowboy Carter tour
right across the street right here at Sofi Stadium.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
This is very much Cowboy Carter vibe.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
So walk us through this one, my friends, right, let.
Speaker 6 (19:49):
Explain yourself.
Speaker 14 (19:50):
Man, the crazy part is before this game, I was like,
you know, I was training out in Dallas door rehab,
you know, before the season, and we just happen to
get a Dallas Cowboys first. So I was like, you
know what, why not come with a statement statement piece? So,
you know, I got the cowboy hat, got the boots
the day before the game. I mean kind of just
(20:12):
put it all together the day before the game. I
kind of wanted to just start the season off, you know,
with a with a statement piece.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
And with the love of God, will you put on
a shirt?
Speaker 6 (20:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (20:28):
Let it? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (20:29):
Yeah, let the world see it.
Speaker 9 (20:31):
Listen, if I had a six pack like that, I
won't even own a shirt.
Speaker 6 (20:36):
That's all right, go ahead, go off.
Speaker 9 (20:40):
We talked a lot about your teammates and rookies and
your clothes. You do some pretty cool things off the
field too. You're also an ambassador for the Browns for
girls flag football. We also understand you are now a
new girl dad. That's very very cool. Why was it
important to you get involved, Greg.
Speaker 14 (20:57):
Yeah, That's just something I've always been prideful about, you know,
from my sisters playing to my time at Northwestern.
Speaker 8 (21:05):
That was just something that.
Speaker 14 (21:05):
I always wanted to highlight you know, I think women
in general, not just football, women in all industries of
life doesn't get the you know, recognition that they deserve
when they're just as qualified, not or even more qualified
than men.
Speaker 8 (21:19):
So that's just.
Speaker 14 (21:20):
Something that I just wanted to continue to do and
that's something that I will continue to do in my career,
is just trying to highlight highlight women in you know,
in multiple industries as best as I can as I
continue my career.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
And with that, Greg is invited back to the show
whatever he wants. Fantastic ending there, Greg, thank you so
much for your time and.
Speaker 6 (21:41):
For joining us.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Continued luck at Minicamp and keep bringing us the team
we love to see it.
Speaker 9 (21:49):
Good Father's Day this weekend, Happy fathers to all you
dads out there and the dads we have here. But
what we're going to do now is we're going to
bring in the son or daughter of an NFL figure.
Speaker 6 (22:12):
We don't know who this is. We don't know who
the figure is, we don't.
Speaker 9 (22:15):
Know who the guest is, and we're going to ask
this son or daughter questions and try to figure out
who their NFL father is. Let's get after it. We're
totally unprepared. This is from the hip. Bring in the
son or daughter. Let's see who we have. Bring it
up and NFL mystery dad.
Speaker 6 (22:34):
All right, we have a young lady. Good morning. How
are you?
Speaker 15 (22:37):
Good morning? I'm great? How are you?
Speaker 6 (22:39):
Guys? Excited, nervous, confused?
Speaker 9 (22:43):
Can you just set the table and tell us and
tell everybody your first name only?
Speaker 15 (22:49):
Yes, my name is Alison. That's all I told me
to say.
Speaker 6 (22:52):
Hey, guys, this is Allison. Say hello, I have a guest.
All right, Alison. We're going to start asking you questions.
Speaker 9 (23:01):
They're yes or no questions mostly, but we're going to
try based on your answer is to guess who your
father is.
Speaker 6 (23:06):
I will start.
Speaker 9 (23:08):
Is your dad currently working within the NFL?
Speaker 6 (23:13):
Or retired?
Speaker 15 (23:14):
Currently working?
Speaker 8 (23:16):
Oh? Active?
Speaker 6 (23:17):
All right, go ahead you guys.
Speaker 14 (23:18):
Okay, okay?
Speaker 12 (23:20):
Is your dad Alison a player?
Speaker 15 (23:24):
No?
Speaker 9 (23:26):
Oh okay, I hope it's not a trainer.
Speaker 6 (23:30):
This is going to take a long time.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
Okay.
Speaker 16 (23:33):
What college did your dad attend?
Speaker 12 (23:36):
Oh?
Speaker 15 (23:36):
Miami of Ohio.
Speaker 6 (23:39):
Oh mac Man. Okay, okay, all.
Speaker 7 (23:42):
Right, what color is the it's the primary color for
the organization that your dad is with.
Speaker 15 (23:50):
Let's kind of give it away. Purple.
Speaker 6 (23:54):
Purple.
Speaker 9 (23:55):
All right, guys, so we still don't know what what
her dad's position is in terms of the title, but
purple means if possibly a viking and.
Speaker 6 (24:03):
That jumps up there, Uh have some purple? Okay? Is
is your is your dad A? Is your dad a
head coach?
Speaker 11 (24:15):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Okay, all right?
Speaker 6 (24:19):
Anybody want to have a guess?
Speaker 11 (24:22):
John?
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Yeah, I love this.
Speaker 6 (24:42):
By the way, we actually connect.
Speaker 12 (24:45):
We got this faster than I thought we were going together. John,
once again, appreciate you you coming on with us and
being a part of a fun little game for us.
And Allison, well done on on the clues and clearly
we needed some of that help to figure.
Speaker 6 (24:59):
Figure this out. All right.
Speaker 12 (25:01):
By the way, John, Allison, is your daughter best gift
that she's given you on Father's Day?
Speaker 6 (25:09):
The theme?
Speaker 17 (25:09):
Well, she we usually work out like when she was
playing lacrosse up until this past This will be the
first Father's Day because she hadn't played lacrosse when she
was eight years old. He used to be out in
the front yard. She'd be taking me to school. So
the best gift she gave me was was beating me
like a drum while I was trying to play defense.
Speaker 6 (25:29):
Which made me happy.
Speaker 8 (25:30):
It made me very happy, that's all event man.
Speaker 7 (25:33):
Coach is good to see you whit here man, But
this is for your daughter, Alison.
Speaker 9 (25:37):
And Coach.
Speaker 6 (25:37):
You can chime in on this if you want to.
Speaker 7 (25:39):
Did coach ever coach you up during your time growing
up as an athlete? And if so, what were some
of those main pointers that he gave you?
Speaker 15 (25:47):
Oh my gosh, so many great things.
Speaker 11 (25:49):
Well, I played lacrosse in college, but I couldn't take
his coaching points seriously until I actually called it a stick.
Speaker 15 (25:54):
It was a lacrosse racket for a very long time.
Speaker 6 (26:00):
I couldn't get it right.
Speaker 7 (26:03):
This looking hearing these pictures, Yeah, what's coaching stick skills?
Speaker 15 (26:07):
Like, you know what, It's not bad. It's improved over
the years.
Speaker 11 (26:11):
It used to be a baseball man. He would throw
it with me and I would have the stick. But
he's one on one defender. Man, he's bigger than all
the girls I face.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
So.
Speaker 15 (26:21):
Like, you know, of no problem. So he's always in
the yard with me giving.
Speaker 11 (26:25):
Me different athletic coaching points and mental game skills, all
the above. He's just been such a great coach and
dad throughout the years.
Speaker 8 (26:32):
That's dope.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
So just questions for Allison.
Speaker 16 (26:34):
Again, the Hallball family is obviously royalty in the NFL.
But Alison, I want to know from you family get
togethers when they're sporting events, how intense does it get.
Speaker 11 (26:45):
It's probably what we would think, pretty intense, no matter
it starts out friendly and that I feel like somehow,
no matter what we're doing, we always end up measuring
our heights and our wingspans and seeing like.
Speaker 15 (26:59):
Circumference, really weird stuff.
Speaker 6 (27:02):
I got to hear your thoughts on that.
Speaker 15 (27:04):
True.
Speaker 17 (27:06):
Well, yeah, I mean I know if I really want
to admit that or not. But like, you can't always
play a game. I mean sometimes you just you know,
you're somewhere.
Speaker 6 (27:14):
Where you're you're at a vent or you're.
Speaker 17 (27:16):
At home, or it's just dinner time, and you know
all you have is a tape measure, you know, So
there's there's gotta be some sort of a competition of
some sort.
Speaker 9 (27:25):
Well to that point, John, take me back, take me
back to when you were growing up and Father's Day,
you and Jim and your dad, Like, what was Father's
Day like back then in the Harbaugh family.
Speaker 6 (27:37):
Yeah, that's a great question.
Speaker 17 (27:38):
You know, it's like Father's Day never got quite the
same level of acknowledgement maybe as Mother's Day.
Speaker 6 (27:47):
Mom. Mother's Day was big.
Speaker 17 (27:49):
Father's Day was you know, we're gonna we gotta go
do something. I One thing I do remember really well
because my mom was really awesome about Father's Day was
going to be a big breakfast. You know, we're normally
a cereal, you know, and we like, we didn't have
the great cereal.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
You know, we had the wheaties. We had to go.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
We didn't go to.
Speaker 6 (28:07):
Our friend's house.
Speaker 17 (28:08):
You know, it's the fruit loops. It's the it's a
Captain crunch. But it would be like bacon, you know,
you'd get pancakes, you get some eggs.
Speaker 6 (28:19):
Father's Day was.
Speaker 17 (28:20):
It was a nice Sunday morning breakfast.
Speaker 6 (28:21):
I remember that. Yeah, no, I that's awesome.
Speaker 13 (28:24):
And only imagine that being the case Alison.
Speaker 12 (28:26):
You know, because we're talking about family, and obviously you're
on because father is Father's Day weekend. But in the
same time, and I think about my family and you know,
my aunts and uncles around Mother's Day and Father's Day
and how significant that is for all of us. What's
it like for you to watch your dad go up
against your uncle on the sidelines.
Speaker 13 (28:43):
Like, you know, we see those family jerseys.
Speaker 12 (28:45):
Where they're split when there's family, you know, on both sides,
Like do you have one of those jerseys or is
just allegiance to dad no matter what?
Speaker 15 (28:52):
Oh my gosh, I should get one of those jerseys.
Speaker 11 (28:54):
That's a great idea. It's definitely I'm very grateful. I mean,
it's amazing to watch both of them just compete at
the highest level. It's such a hard thing to get
this hut of in the NFL let alone too, you know, brothers.
Speaker 15 (29:06):
But it's definitely like has its ups and downs.
Speaker 11 (29:08):
I mean, you know, the Super Bowl, you know, it
was amazing, but at the same time, it was hard
because the family was split and we couldn't support each other,
you know, like we would have wanted to.
Speaker 15 (29:18):
But gosh, I'm just so proud of everybody. It's you know,
NFL ups and downs.
Speaker 11 (29:22):
But just so grateful for what they've been doing and
when I get to see them do.
Speaker 16 (29:27):
This next question is for coach coaches, Guys have a
great family model, who's got it better than us? At
what age did you teach Alison this model? And then
I actually want her to follow up do you plan
on passing that model down to your kids?
Speaker 17 (29:42):
That's a great question. I'll tell you what, man, who
has it better than us? I would say, just as
long as as she's been around, she probably just heard.
I don't think there was a moment. You know, she
probably learned it kind of like from birth. You know
pretty much. It's one of the first phrases. She I
don't know when you first uttered it exactly, but she
always knew the answer. The answer is always clear. You
(30:04):
know who's got it better than us? I know the
answer to that one. Allison always knew the answer that one.
Speaker 6 (30:11):
But you gotta see it the right way too. With
Grandpa Jack. You can't be nobody.
Speaker 17 (30:16):
You can't be Nobody's got to be enthusiastically drawn out.
Speaker 6 (30:20):
No, Yeah, I love it. I love it all right, Allison.
Speaker 7 (30:27):
Listen, families are are a lot of times they don't
get the attention when it comes to being you know,
daughters or family members of head coaches in the league.
Y'all are the true superheroes, right, like, seriously, all the
respect in the world because it's hard being a family
member of a head coach. But we want to know
from you your dad's going into his eighteenth year in
the league. What was it like growing up as the
(30:47):
daughter of a head coach in the NFL.
Speaker 15 (30:51):
Yeah, we got here in two thousand and eight.
Speaker 11 (30:53):
I was in first grade, so I think I learned
really fast, and this was a really big deal. It
was like, Wow, it's really all on him as the
head coach. Sometimes. I remember like going into school Monday
morning after a loss on Sunday, Like I was like, Mom,
please don't make me go to school. Who's going to
be the first kid to say something, you know? And
it was tough, but my mom gave me some great
(31:13):
advice like just keep your head held high or proud
of your dad and what he's done. And you know,
there's tough moments like that, but gosh, it's just all
glory to God with where he's brought us and all
the amazing moments we've had because of it.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Too.
Speaker 11 (31:27):
It's brought our family really close together, our senate family, man,
just my parents and I absolutely.
Speaker 6 (31:35):
John. What's it like to listen to that makes me proud?
Makes me happy?
Speaker 11 (31:39):
You know?
Speaker 17 (31:39):
It's yeah, I think everybody. Everybody's path is different. You know,
Man makes his plans, but God orders our steps, and
he's the steps that God has ordered for us. And
you try to kind of understand the reason. And life
is best understood in reverse, right, you kind of look
back and starts to make sense to you. And I
see else and the young woman that she's become and
(31:59):
the things that she's gone through and and and her
adversues have been different than other people in first season.
Her her great moments have been different, but they've been
hers and unique to her, and she's handled them in
the greatest way she could. Uh, and in her way,
you know, and there's been nothing but success and a
blessing to people.
Speaker 15 (32:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (32:16):
You know that's a dad talking, right, I mean, that's
she makes me proud every single day. And uh and
she's going to law school next year at Loyal in Chicago.
Speaker 6 (32:25):
That'll be our next step.
Speaker 17 (32:26):
So it's pretty awesome, Pretty awesome, is.
Speaker 8 (32:28):
It, Dad?
Speaker 6 (32:30):
I'm tearing up over here. This is really really nice.
Speaker 8 (32:34):
All Right.
Speaker 9 (32:34):
We're gonna just end with two short ones to Alison.
First of all, Alison, I need to follow up on
what your dad was saying earlier about his childhood. Do
you guys did you guys growing up in your house?
Did you have the good cereals.
Speaker 15 (32:47):
We did. Yeah, I love that favorite.
Speaker 8 (32:52):
What was your favorite?
Speaker 15 (32:54):
Lucky Charles?
Speaker 4 (32:55):
I like you.
Speaker 6 (32:58):
Strong choice.
Speaker 9 (33:01):
We know Father's Day is Sunday, and Father's Day can
be a little bit more low key than Mother's Day.
But you have this really unique opportunity that your dad
is sitting here with us, all of us on live
television and Good Morning Football. What do you want to
say to your dad, John for about what he means
to you?
Speaker 11 (33:15):
Oh my gosh, I don't know if I can follow
up what he said, but Mom and I are so
proud of him. I'm an only child, so the three
of us are just so close, and he's just been
the greatest dad through my whether it's athletic career, you know,
helping me through all the highs and lows of that
and coaching me and just always being there for me.
Speaker 15 (33:32):
You never missed a game.
Speaker 11 (33:33):
This season, and not only that, but just in my life.
He always has so much wisdom, the best advice. He
just lives out his faith every single day and I
look up to him so much for that. And we're
best friends, and you know, there's no one I'd rather.
Speaker 15 (33:47):
Be with than you and Mom. So happy Father's day.
Love you, I love that man, I love it.
Speaker 14 (33:55):
We love the.
Speaker 9 (33:56):
Horrorball, guys, and for this Father's Day, let's do it
all together with the right gusto. On Father's Day, who's
got it better than us?
Speaker 7 (34:04):
No, no, lie jump to Thank you Austen so much,
Happy Father today.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Good morning football,
