Speaker 1 (00:04):
Ten Takes is a production of the NFL in partnership
with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Here's the deal. It was a fine plan.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
It was a well intended plan that Russell Wilson's going
to be our starter, and Jackson's going to learn, and
we got Jamis and you know, Russ won some games
last year for Pittsburgh, and we'll just do the Alex
Smith and Patrick Mahomes thing. And that always sounds great
until you don't have Alex Smith on the Chiefs, who
was a winner and would win with Andy Reid and Mahomes.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Would just sit there. You're rowing three. It's not the
nature here. So great plan, it didn't work.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
And I'll just state this again, I don't understand what
the take is to keep starting Russ. This is not
a guy contractually who makes it uncomfortable. He's on a
one year deal. This is not a guy who's earned
a way to.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Play out of this. You know, it's not Eli, not
even Daniel Jones.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
It is a guy who showed up here twenty minutes ago,
and while he's done some great things in the league,
has no equity, no skins on the wall for the Giants,
no attachment to the fan base. No one's gonna cry
for him, and he hasn't played well. He played horribly
in two of the three games. So what is the case?
Cam Ward is out there starting for the Titans. It's
not always pretty, but he's out there. He's running the offense,

(01:27):
he's competing. We see rookies all the time. We've seen
rookies in this era. Year two is the new year five.
Year one is the new year three and we are
on out four weeks since the Jackson Dart's first start.
Who By the way, everything Brian Dable has said about
him beforehand is he's got the moxie, he's got the presence,
he's got this, he's got that. Well, here we go.
Give him the car keys. He's been in the game.

(01:47):
You're putting him in, you're dribbling him out there for
a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
I think it's time.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
And I wouldn't defy anybody, anybody to say no, Russ
should be the guy again. I don't even know if
Russ is saying that. And by the way, I would
not be shocked if Russell Wilson is no longer on
the team, some sort of transaction move someplace, and it's
just let's go to battle and we got Jackson Darton
Jamis Winson's our backup sounds all right to me. The

(02:11):
fourth down throw from Russell Wilson is sometimes all it takes.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
I think.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I think there's a New York factor in that, and
there's a media factor in that. And Mike, I know
you remember this. There was a time in the Joe
Judge era, We're on a third and long they ran
a quarterback sneak and that was it. That was all
and that fans just went nuts and they said, you're
giving up. This can't hit. And then changes happen. Changes
happen here again. There is an electricity this morning that
has not been in the city for a few weeks,

(02:35):
maybe a few years. It's a great plan, like we're
gonna go to the rook It always sounds great. The
Chargers defense is nasty, they are playing at home. There's
gonna be cheers for him. It's it's so much more
intriguing now. And the idea that just let's go one
more week and week with Russ. It's so interesting because
two weeks ago Russell Wilson had like four hundred and
fifty yards. They blew the game at the end. But

(02:56):
it's just it's gonna rapid, rapid turn of events. I
do want to talk about Russ a little bit because
obviously he's a seminal player of this and conduct himself
with classes a Walter Payton Man of the Year and
he came in here on his fourteam in five years
and did his Darndess and here we are it's not
even September yet he's on the bench. What's an emotional
thing I have to go through at work? Usually my

(03:16):
daily schedule is I come in here, I go home,
and I usually go try to go right to the gym. Okay,
I go to a gym. It's like any other gym.
There's TVs and stuff everywhere. You know what I see
on the TVs every single time while I'm trying to
work out, you know how I see?

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Sure, I see at and listen.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
I feel like it should be the Sarah McLoughlin right now.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
But it's not only that he's gone. I got to.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
See him with with another gal, and the gal is
richer and more beautiful and more powerful in the community.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
And I got to see him up there.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
And you know the hardest part is I see Peter
in these conversations, and I'm like, I guarantee Peter's making
some reference that that person doesn't get. I guarantee I
can make a better follow up. I know, Peter, you
don't you do know how to handle Peter. I'm sitting there,
I'm doing the inclined press, and I'm watching Peter talk
about it on the Cowboys or something like that, and
it's like he moved on. It's fine, but I shouldn't

(04:12):
have to look at it, all right, I shouldn't.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Have to watch. This is not temptation.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
I don't want to see videotape of Peter doing things
with other people.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
All right, go and take care of your business.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Don't make me watch it every single day I'm at
the gym.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Can we put on sn Y or can we put
on the NFL? That ESPN at this gym.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
I got to talk to the manager because if Peter's
not either, I don't care, but the fact that he's
up there, I don't want to watch my ex inaction
with their new person.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Can you blame me as that relatable? That's it? Miss him?

Speaker 3 (04:41):
The too moment in the Star is my favorite, but really,
to me, it is not a too moment or story
because the second that this gentleman said enough of this,
I'm not going to stand around and watch this teo
did it once, and then when he did it a
second time, George g said, nope, I'm getting injectioned today, guys.
I'm hitting the showers. George che who was the safety
out of Alabama. He'd been around the league a few times.

(05:02):
This was his second tenure with the Cowboys, and he did, frankly,
what I think every single Cowboys should have done, and
they ran on the field. This is kind of like baseball.
If you throw in our guy twice, we are clearing
the benches. George Cheek was immediately ejected. It's set off
a brecas on the field in which I feel like
Blodel Adams was involved. There were punches, there were shoves,

(05:23):
and look at see look now the Niners are fighting
the Cowboys. This is unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
I know it's.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Unsavory and all that, but like George Cheak was standing
for something.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
He was defending the Star and then he's.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Miked up in the tunnel coming off the field after
being ejected, saying that's not happening.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
In our house.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
I've always loved George cheek for that great safety, hard hitter.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
They don't make him like they used to. This is
Dan Campbell's Lions team. This is Dan Campbell's team. You
understand is this thing on?

Speaker 3 (05:48):
This is Dan Campbell's team because I was told Ben
Johnson was the genius and he was carrying the offense.
I watched them go to Baltimore last night. I watch
him go into the darkness. They ran for two hundred
and twenty four yards. They had multiple trick plays in
the middle of the field, in the red zone, in
any zone you want. I was told that Aaron Glenn

(06:10):
was the real spark and the carrier of this defense.
I saw the Lions have seven sacks from six different players.
I saw the Ravens have zero sacks. I saw the
Lions shut the door on the greatest weapon in the league,
Lamar Jackson on the goal line multiple times. I'm done
with this storyline. I don't want to hear it. After
Week one when they lost to Green Bay, I.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Don't want to hear it.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Ever, this is a Dan Campbell team. Aaron Glenn right
now is running up and down the sideline, dancing an
earth wind and fire in.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
A loss, his third in a row.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Ben Johnson is one and two, one of those two
getting absolutely pistol whipped by the Detroit Lions for fifty
some points.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
I like they're great coaches. I hope they go on
to do amazing things.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Dan Campbell runs the show You Gamble with Campbell. He's
calling the shots and fourth and two at the end
of the game, he's knocking people out. He's going into
the darkness. And he's a Metallica fan. Okay, they go
into the darkness. My favorite Metallica song, it's called Blackend
and where it's which it says, darkness in vain, decadence remains,
and that's all that remains with Detroit after the coordinators

(07:16):
go to Timbuck two wherever the hell they go, as
long as Dan Campbell stands there, they're gonna knock people out.
They saw it last night. The idea that week one
is a liar.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Let's just take a look back.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Okay, this Lions team was unrecognizable in Week one at
lambeau Field against the Packers. They could get nothing done.
Golf did nothing, the running game did nothing. The Packers
were the best team in the world. A couple weeks later, Wow,
we go to Baltimore score thirty eight points. The Packers
just lost to Cleveland. All right, it's just taken breath
in September. Do not jump to all these nuclear conclusions

(07:48):
after week one, after week two.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Now we're getting into the meat. We are in week four.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Right now, guys, we can start really casting some opinions.
But Week one is a very strange week, and I
know it is a big time right off week. Montgomery
talked about it last night. He said, after week one,
everyone was saying, our oh, Lione has nothing. They can't
block anybody two hundred and twenty four yards rushing through
the heart of the Ravens defense.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Week one is a very very strange week for the
Packers and for the Lions.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Everybody, just take a breath before you start eulogizing the Lions.
Mike Tomlin referred to Carson Wentz as a grizzly veteran,
and Mike Tomlin is a great wordsmith. We think he
was looking for grizzled. Grizzly is a bear in the
United States. I don't know if they have grizzlies in Ireland.
I don't know, but you know what, I'm looking forward
to something I didn't think I would be saying this week,
I'm looking forward to seeing Carson Wentz and I'll tell

(08:34):
you why a bunch of different reasons.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
First of all, I love the Irish people. I don't
want to paint him with too broad up a brush.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Can we see a picture of Carson Wentz? Is it
possible that they might respond to Carson Wentz. I'm I'm
just putting this out there. It looks like football Conan O'Brien,
all right. Yes, he's got a big, tall guy who
needs a lot of sunscreen and has the orange red hair.
Like if I saw Carson Wentz walking the street, I
would just think he's.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
From Dublin, and I would think that's really cool.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
And the story is also really cool because I feel like,
if Carson Wentz gets cooking a I think the people
in Tyler gonna love it. Be I'm fascinated to know
what the people in Minnesota feel about it. The plot
begins to thicken here a little bit, the plot being
JJ McCarthy's the guy, he gets hurt, he has one
good quarter in two games. The rest of it is
really shaky. Carson Wentz comes in last week, No big deal.

(09:20):
Two touchdown seventy percent and easy went over Cincinnati. What
if Minnesota developed this reputation under koc as, this sort
of rehaboot ball center, this vocational thing whereby Sam, Darnold
and Carson went combined, he is like, Wow, they're amazing.
All of a sudden, we thought they weren't so amazing.
Carson Wentz, if he comes in this game, it's like,

(09:42):
you know what, JJ, Let's get you right. Let's take
the time, let's get you right, let's not rush you back.
I think he has a huge opportunity. We said it
sixteen and six years. No one wants him. Everybody passes
on him. The Carson Wentz story would be incredibly cool,
not only people in Minnesota for people here, but also
I like the symmetry with Ireland, and he looks like
he fits right in there.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
So go. I hope to help you throw sports shans
in this game.
