Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Good Morning Football.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Welcome to GMFB. I am Sarah Walsh, joined by Kyle Brand. Unfortunately,
the NFL world this morning morning the loss of Colts
owner Jim Ersay, who passed away yesterday. And for much
more on this, we want to bring in.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
Our NFL insider Mike Garafolo.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
An incredibly sad day for the NFL community, especially the
community there in Indianapolis, might give us some context on
what this means now for the Colts organization.

Speaker 5 (00:50):
Yeah, Sarah, this is stunning news to the NFL, even
though Ersie had been in bad health the last couple
of years. Just seven hours earlier on x he had
posted good luck to the Pacers tonight in their game.
So the news coming that he had passed away in
his sleep stunning many around the NFL. You're seeing those
tributes roll in from the likes of Tony Dungee, Peyton Manning,

(01:11):
Dwight Freene. Going to be joining us here shortly. Pat
McAfee had an extensive tribute to Ersay on social media.
All of it his heartfelt, All of it is true.
He was one of the most unique personalities in the
NFL over the course of his tenure as owner and
more of the Indianapolis Colts. And definitely a guy who

(01:33):
had his own demons and battled his issues in the past,
but the fact that he battled through them and tried
to turn them into something positive, advocating for mental health.
Certainly generous with his money when it came to social
causes as well. But Sarah, you asked about the future
of the Colts. Yes, Carly Ersay. Gordon has served as

(01:55):
the owner basically of the Colts when Ersay was suspended
back in twenty fourteen, when he's been in treatment as well,
so that is a role that he has been grooming
her for. So the expectation is that she will take
over as the owner of the Colts. She's young, not
as young as Jim Mersey was, but she's young, but
certainly has the experience along with her sisters as well.

(02:16):
That had been Jim Ersay's plan all along to pass
the team to his daughter, So that will be the
case now, earlier than many had expected and hoped. Jim
Ersay passing away at the age of sixty five, those
tributes will continue to roll in and I'm telling you
every single one of them. If you've had a minute
to be in the presence of Jim Mersey or experience him.

(02:36):
Unique definitely one of the words that certainly comes up
with Jim, irsay, one of the great personalities in the
NFL gone.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
To So Mike Gie, thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
You mentioned he was young when he took over, thirty
seven years old, that was the youngest NFL owner at
the time, and you mentioned the tributes and to help
us remember Jim Ersay this morning, we want to welcome
in Colts Legend Pro Bowl Football, our Pro Football Hall
of Famer Dwight Freeny. Dwight, We're so appreciative for you
joining us this morning.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
We know that he meant so much to you.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
And we'll start here just how will you remember mister Ersay?

Speaker 6 (03:09):
Yeah, yeah, real sad, sad morning. You know for all
of us, you know that that new Jim. You know,
I think Jim, you know, he was a great man.
You know, I always remember Jim for the positivity, you know,
he he was one of those guys where you meet
him and you could just feel how passionate he was

(03:32):
about you as an individual, the team the city. You know,
he had a lot of love for Indianapolis and and
and the organization and his players and his family and
every time you know, you're running to him. You know,
for me, it was always always love like I was
a family member, you know, a part of his family.

(03:53):
And those are the you know, the positive, great things
I'm always gonna remember. You know, this wasn't just an
owner that you know, just happened to come by once
in a blue moon and you see him, you felt,
you felt his presence. He wanted to be a part
of the organization and the way that the things that

(04:14):
he believed, you know, I think it kind of resonated
through the entire organization, which was all about family, high
character guys. So so for me and I know the
rest of the coast nation is a very very sad day.

Speaker 7 (04:30):
Well, that makes it even more special that you're joining us,
and we genuinely appreciate on an emotional morning like this, Dwight.
You were there for a handful of years with a
handful of very good colts teams that could not get
over the hump until you eventually did and won the
Super Bowl and brought the Super Bowl to Indianapolis. What
did that mean specifically to mister Ersay to bring a
title to that town.

Speaker 6 (04:52):
I mean it met everything. You know, you go out
there and and you know you're in this business to win, right,
And I think, Jim, you know what he did? You
know in turn, you know, Indianapolis into a football town
and that's hard to do in a Hoosier state, you know,
in a basketball state. And that's what he did. You know,

(05:12):
we kept shipping at that boulder, kept chipping at that
block year after year. You know, there's a lot of teams,
you know, for us, you know, we always say, you know,
oh man, we wish we would have won three or
four whatever, because we had so many wins during that era.
But it's a lot of teams that didn't win a
Super Bowl. And we can say we've done and we
can say that we brought something to Indianapolis which Indianapolis

(05:35):
has never had before and a lot of us never
had before, which is a super Bowl. And that all
started with Jim Dwight.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
When you think about the dream wish list of any
kid growing up playing football, you dream about getting drafted,
You dream about winning a Super Bowl, You dream about
ending your career in the Football Hall of Fame. You
got to do all of those things in Jim obviously
had a massive hand in all of that. And I
want to talk about that last one the Football Hall
of Fame, mister Ers introduced you did the action in that.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
Take us back to that moment.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
What was that like when you asked him to do
that and hearing him speak about you in that moment.

Speaker 6 (06:14):
Yeah, you know, it was kind of an easy decision
for me to have Jim kind of introduced me. You know,
it all starts with him. He is the horseshoe. You know,
his family, you know, created that organization and all that
he's been through with that organization. You know, it all
starts with him. You know, I wouldn't be in that

(06:35):
organization if it wasn't for him and the way that
he treated the players while they were there, and me specifically,
it was it was amazing. So it was easy for
me to pick him. And I was honored that he
would you know that he actually did it, and I
know he was honored on the other side of the token,
So you know, that's just what kind of man he was,
what type of owner he was. You know, this wasn't

(06:58):
just a guy that owned the team and that was it.
You know, he was considered family by so many guys
that played in Indianapolis. You know, he was just a
stand up guy and passionate and oooh's love and and
and just you know, when you got around him, you
felt you felt special. He made you feel special.

Speaker 7 (07:21):
You know, Dwight, you had the the perspective of having
played for several different teams after the Colts and therefore
several different owners. Many of the owners come differently. There's
there's no clear cut archetype. But he seemed to break
the mold in so many ways. What made mister Ers
specifically unique for people who didn't know him, who only
knew him from a headline or from a video or

(07:43):
seeing him on game day, you knew him instantly.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
What made him unique from other owners?

Speaker 6 (07:47):
Well, you know, I think you know every obviously, you know,
everyone's different, right, and there isn't no any you know,
just standard of what you're supposed to be as in owner.
You're a person first, right, And I think for Jim,
you know, Jim was one of those guys that you know,
he understood the business. You know, he's been around the business.

(08:07):
He he didn't he wasn't in the meeting rooms, you know,
trying to change schemes or any of that stuff. But
he brought the right people in to run the organization
the way he ran that he wanted it to be ran,
and was ran to perfection in my opinion. You know.
The way that he was so different was the fact that,
you know, he was just one of those guys will

(08:28):
tell you how you fit, how he feels. You know.
He wasn't going to hide it. You know, he was
a passionate guy. You know, but I would say even
even him just telling how it feels, it always kind
of had a positive spin to it. And that's what
I always remember him as. Just a positive guy, you know,
and you know Glass, you know, full not empty type

(08:50):
of guy. So you know, those are the beautiful things
and the great things I always remember out him. It's
just that he always wanted, you know, to to just
make things better in the world for an organization. Uh,
just kind of one of those guys, like not many people,
you know, when you get that type of position, you

(09:10):
know you could kind of sit back and say, well,
I've made it, I've done it. You know, there's nothing
else for me to achieve. And he wasn't that, you know,
an advocate for mental health and he always wanted to
make the world better.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
Yeah, you talked about how he was an advocate for
mental health, and you talked about how you're going to
remember him. How do you think that he would want
to be remembered.

Speaker 6 (09:29):
Dwight, Yeah, you know, just I think, you know, thinking
about him, you know, I think he just wanted to
be remembered as someone who's who loved deeply and he
was passionate about the things that he wasn't involved in. Yeah,
he wasn't perfect, who is, but you know he lived life.

(09:50):
He lived life to the fullest, and you know, he
wanted to be in a better place and bring everything
to a better place. And I think we're all better
to have Jim in our lives.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Dway, once again, we just want to thank you, Kyle
and myself for coming on and sharing your memories this morning,
because we know that it's a significant loss for you,
for the entire cults community. So we are thinking of
you all and we really appreciate it this morning, Dwight.

Speaker 6 (10:18):
All right, thank you for having me.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
We continue to remember and celebrate the life of Jim Ersay.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
He will be missed.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
As Dwight Freeny just said he was the horseshoe. We
continue to remember him throughout the morning here on GMFB.
It is through it out Thursday. With two quarterbacks on

(10:48):
new teams, here's how this is going to go. First
t up is which quarterback is going to have a
bigger year for their new team? Gino Smith for the
Raiders or do we have Sam Darnold for the Seahawks. Now,
one of our guests happens to be wearing a Seahawks jersey,
So I don't know if that's tipping the answer here,
But Jordan, what.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
Do you spot? What do you what am I supposed
to say here? This is come on, it's like picking
between people. I love relatives, but I'm gonna go with
the robot had in the middle. This is hard. It's
hard for me to say, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
You have a Seahawks jersey?

Speaker 2 (11:25):
On?

Speaker 5 (11:25):
All right, you're right, Seahawks jersey? Who is it? I
think Donald's gonna do great in Seattle and I love
that coach. And uh then you have look, you have
Geno who's gonna be a Hall of Fame quarterback and
he's back with Pete Carroll, you don't.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Think he is.

Speaker 5 (11:41):
That's exactly no. All right, well then and they're in
you know, they're they're it's hard to make. You can
see this as you know, I talk a lot, almost
as much as Kyle, and but it is it's a
hard it's a hard call to make because I think
they're both gonna do great. And you know, there was
times when Gino you'd be like, what's going on? Where
is he? And then he'd have these incredible games. And

(12:03):
then with Donald, one was like, well, he had such
great receivers on his last team, so it wasn't a
problem for him. When I hear that, I'm like, ah,
then he's great.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
But Joel, the question is who's gonna have the bigger impact?

Speaker 5 (12:13):
So oh, I didn't listen to the question.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
So like, you better, I'm going to.

Speaker 5 (12:17):
Chris on this. Yeah, it's gonna be Donald. Donald's gonna
be better and we're gonna win the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
How do you like that? All? There we go again, rewracket.

Speaker 7 (12:29):
We're redoing there, Yes, start the segment over all, right,
here we go.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
I didn't realize who's gonna have the Donald's gonna have
a better season than Gino Smith. Why do I say that?
Because he's a seahawk all right, every Wow, that is
exactly what is going to happen. I'll fight you, and
I'll be happy to bet you or whatever you like
right here, anybody in this studio Chris except for Chris.

Speaker 8 (12:55):
With Dano Smith, right, he's going back to a coach
he's very familiar with. They got asking Jente to help
unload the pressure with the and Gay. He has some
solid receivers, the nice tight end as Brock, you know,
being able to make a lot of plays as I
think he was a broken record as a receiver as

(13:15):
a rookie. Right, so he has the most he has
the most receptions as a rookie. So he has weapons
over there with the with the Raiders now Robby Moore
than Seattle, and I see him continue to play better,
continue to uplift this team. With Pete Curl, there've been
a good.

Speaker 5 (13:31):
Marriage, right, they stick together. When did they get married?

Speaker 8 (13:34):
And I got the Raider colors on today. I don't
know why today, but so I'm gonna go with Gino.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Smith, Milik Sharp Kyle. What he got bigger.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Impact, Here's what I got.

Speaker 7 (13:43):
I wish we could take Joel McHale in maybe two
thousand and five and you're hosting the Soup, and we
can take that clip of you answering that question and
run it on the soup, and then you in two
thousand and five react to that clip of you answering
that question.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
What would the reaction be.

Speaker 5 (14:01):
The reaction be like, Wow, his hair is so much better.
What did he do? It's so much more full? Would
look good? I'd be like, what I didn't know this
was a show good Morning Football? And who's this Kyle Brand?
And I would say that I would be a thousand

(14:25):
times behind what I said, And then we'd cut to
a clip of this brand new spanking show, RuPaul's Drag Race.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
It's gonna be it's with the flavored Flame of Love
or whatever it's called. But hold on, speaking of love.
The Sam Donald thing for a Seahawks fan we have
one here is very interesting. Okay, you guys have no
history with him, He has no skins on the wall.
He was great last year, but he was really weirdly
bad with the Panthers and the Jets, and then he
was a backup on the Niners. So like, what is

(14:55):
the Seahawks fans level of excitement, right, Is it nervousness
or excitement because he might go back to Panthers Donald.

Speaker 5 (15:01):
I think it is excitement because we barely made the
playoffs or did not make the playoffs due to schedule strength,
so we should have gone. And so I think we're
in a good spot for where the team is. And McDonald's,
I think is a very focused coach. So I think
if you pick out those separate games where oh, he
didn't do too great, there's a lot. Gino did that

(15:24):
a lot as well, So I think we're going to
be pretty darn good. And again, if anybody in the
studio wants to fight me about that, let's do it exactly.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
Yeah, nobody, nobody.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Crickets.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Next up, moving to two head coaches getting things underway
with new teams. We got Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson
coached alongside each other in Detroit, but now they get
their chances head coaches for both the Jets and the
Bears respectively.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
I love it. I love it.

Speaker 9 (15:54):
I love the opportunity to come on in and change
that narrative. That's where great stories are written, and so
we're looking to write a new chapter here twenty five
Bears and looking forward to the future.

Speaker 10 (16:06):
These men want to win, these men want to work,
and this coaching staff will do everything they can to
give them the tools that they need to be successful.
So again, this was day two of OTA's and tomorrow
we have another day and then we're looking forward to that.
So anytime we can get reps on the grass, we're
gonna take advantage of that.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
That brings us to our second topic, which Dan Campbell
disciple has more to prove. Is Aaron Glenn or Ben
Johnson kickoff Ron too, Chris, it has.

Speaker 8 (16:38):
To be Aaron Glenn. Right, going to New York primetime
in the Mecca, and you you're building a team around
justin Fields. Right, you said you decided that you wanted
to get rid of Aaron Rodgers to move on to
a younger quarterback. Right, you still got some of the
same weapons, the Bonte Adams and a lot of the
guys that Aaron Rodgers brought they're gone. But you still
got Garret Wilson, you still got a Breist Hall, you

(16:59):
still got at sauls Gardner. We still got solid defense.
So Aaron Glenn does have pieces work with, But is
it going to be harder for him to succeed compared
to Ben Johnson. Yes, because Ben Johnson already has a
solid quarterback that he can build on and a nice
offense over there.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
So Aaron Glenn has.

Speaker 8 (17:16):
A tough it's going to be very tough for him
to go up to the Jets and win, and especially
with a younger quarterback, with Justin Fields and everybody trying
to jail up there fast.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Joel, who you got?

Speaker 5 (17:29):
I think I think you're right because I always thought
the Justin Fields was really great. I'm not sure why
he bounced around so much. And now, yeah, I think
it's a solid match and I think they're going to
do great. And the only problem is you're in New York,
where you do one little thing wrong and it's on
radio for eight hours for.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
This show, for this show, for this show, because we'll
use it.

Speaker 5 (17:53):
Yeah, Kyle is abusive.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
He comes in with the papers in New York and
he's like, here's the East Coast take, you know, West
Coast by you know Joel.

Speaker 5 (18:00):
Yeah, he just wears any jersey that day. Look see
this paper, choke two point zero.

Speaker 7 (18:06):
That's the New York Post this morning, just getting after
their own team.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
That's unbelievable.

Speaker 7 (18:11):
At Reggie and they got Halli Burton and we're just choking.
That's how they do it. And you don't even want
to see what's on this side. I'm not even going
to turn it around. It's so horrible. I don't want
to show it to you. You know, I can't even
make a joke about it.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
It's so horrible. Uh.

Speaker 7 (18:23):
The joke here though, is that? The answer here I
think is actually Ben Johnson because he has Caleb. If
Ben Johnson can't make this work, he failed Caleb, he
failed the front office, he failed ownership. He was brought
in specifically. They're like, we have a Ferrari. Do you
know how to drive one? He's like I do. And
they're like, but you've never driven one before and he's like, no,

(18:44):
I promise I do.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
All right, go ahead.

Speaker 7 (18:46):
Aaron Glenn has a quarterback who is like a rented
piece who will be gone nine months from now if
he doesn't play well.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
It's this.

Speaker 7 (18:52):
The Bears have a messiah, they have a Lisanol Gayib
like that has to work. I think there's more pressure
on Ben Johnson because no, it's not New.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
York, but it's Chicago.

Speaker 7 (19:02):
The Chicagoans are insufferable about their quarterbacks and their failures,
and we just got over justin Field. He was supposed
to be the sacre himself.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
He's been through there.

Speaker 7 (19:11):
So if two years from now, Kayleb Williams is starting
over with the New York Jets after being run through
by the Steelers, it all will be on Ben Jonson's fall.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
I think it's his deal.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
Our third topic is where it gets really serious droll.
Obviously obviously the hard hitting football questions, and then this
is where this is this next level of it. If
you put the question is this, if you put a
group of football players in a movie and you put
a group of actors on the football field, who would
perform better? You can marinate on that.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Christy go first, I'm.

Speaker 8 (19:39):
Putting the football players on the actors field, right, because
we've seen it with Michael Lover. Then we see a
couple guys go back and forth. So I think it's
something that we're capable to go into their field and
have a little big success.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Right.

Speaker 5 (19:54):
Okay, well, listen, I still watch Brian Bosworth Stone Colls
and hell yeah yeah that Oscar performance. You can really go, well,
they need to move more football players in front of
the camera. I will say that you know, football players,
they do they if you can get to the point

(20:14):
where you're playing in the NFL, it is a show
and you have to step up and there's cameras and
there's there's people yelling at you. But actors all they
want to do is see themselves and talk about and
they want crowds cheering for them. So I'm I'm gonna
go with actors here. Guys, if you get enough pads
on them and you know, enough advillain advance, you'd be surprised.

(20:38):
And they're better dancers, all right.

Speaker 7 (20:41):
So let's talk specifically about maybe actors, Joel of Seahawks fans.
If we got a crew together and it's you, it's
your boy, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, we'll give you Pratt, We'll
give you Rain Wilson.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
Like, do you guys have a squad and who's getting
game balls? Yeah? We got to score?

Speaker 5 (20:58):
Oh definitely. And you throw on a Ferris on there too.
She yeah, right, I yeah, Chris Pratt. I think you
know you saw his the way he changed for Guardians
of the Galaxy, and I think Rain Wilson he would
be a very good announcer. His voice is so mesmerizing
and soothing. And also if we also had Bruce Lee again,

(21:22):
I got a second time. I brought him up. He
went to the University of Washington. He's from Seattle and
probably one of the greatest athletes ever to go through.
And then can we have we have a couple of
professional players in the team. Yes, sure, I'm going to
go with somebody six killer from the University of Washington
going way back to the early eighties. Okay, and then

(21:43):
you know Billy Joe Hobert from the University of Washington,
who uh sure he might have taken lull and take
the program, but he was quite a personality all right now.

Speaker 7 (21:52):
But the backup would be Marquez tuiasa Sopo and you
guys will have depth and you'll be ready speaking of
this though, Chris, I want to show you something you're
going to love. And Joel, I know that you have
addressed this picture hundreds of times. We showed restraint by
waiting almost an hour and a half.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
To show it.

Speaker 7 (22:07):
Chris, check out this picture. You're gonna love it. And
I want your thoughts on it.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
Roll.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
Yeah, let's go look at that where are we? What
are we doing?

Speaker 5 (22:15):
Why do anybody even know who that is?

Speaker 2 (22:17):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (22:19):
That's me in nineteen thirty eight. That's me and Rob Meredith,
who we went to school together since pre school, and
we both walked onto the University of Washington football team.
He's a much better athlete than I am. But we
were cannon fodder for the number one in the number

(22:42):
one defense and number one offense. And we played. We
played for two years. And yeah, I talk about an
actor walking onto a team and pretending to know what
he was doing. I didn't. And thank God for Ernie
Conwell and Mark Brunner who took a who protected me,
And here I am right now. I didn't have any

(23:05):
knees bent backwards. But I got to got to listen
to Don James yell at me, got to watch Mark
Brunell play, and Uh, it was, it was, it was.
I couldn't believe I was there. That was going Napoleon Coffin.
That's when he was on the team, and I was.
He was the scariest, fastest athlete, strongest athlete I had
ever seen. Uh. Steve Empman was there. Uh, Dave Hoffman,

(23:27):
Steve Hoffman were there there. Yeah, it's it was a
good time and I had no business being there. What
position I don't remember.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Yeah, I was.

Speaker 5 (23:37):
I was a tight end and so I was tall
and could run and whenever they tackled me, I would
just burst out crying and say that was really good
to Hollywood, that hurts so much, please stop running after
me and hurting me. It was Yeah. The pads were
way bigger back.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
Yeah, swallowed by those things.

Speaker 5 (23:57):
I'm wearing pads now.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (24:01):
It was a good Yes, I was. I was basically
a glorified man Ascott.

Speaker 4 (24:05):
Kyle also an actor and a football player.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
So you guys have.

Speaker 5 (24:09):
That what you into Princeton?

Speaker 8 (24:10):
Kyle?

Speaker 7 (24:12):
I did, and I did three and a half years
on a little show called Days of Our Lives.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Yeah back in the day.

Speaker 5 (24:17):
Wow, looky you?

Speaker 3 (24:19):
Yeah, So, Kyle, which were you better at? Since we
teat up the question being a football player playing an
actor actor being a football player, we didn't act as
a football player on Days of Our Lives. I'm guessing I.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Wasn't great either.

Speaker 7 (24:33):
My character on Days of Our Lives was a one
legged marine, and I'm not making that up.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
So it wasn't great. I had a lot to work with.

Speaker 7 (24:39):
I never won a Daytime Emmy, so I think it's
a tie for last.

Speaker 5 (24:43):
Okay, well wow, you know, so you went to New
York and auditioned for that role and got a like
a series regular on soap opera. Yeah, not easy to do.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Yeah, it was actually la but yeah two thousand and three.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
Yeah, look at that multi talented, multi talented Joel McHale.

Speaker 5 (24:58):
Chris, you've ever been on a sofa?

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (25:00):
But we got man, I'm ready. I see guys kind
of go in that field. Man, let me just be
like one of the detectives in there.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
You know, I love it. Look at this guy that's
those are some pretty cool.

Speaker 4 (25:12):
What are we doing on Friday night?

Speaker 2 (25:13):
You know that?

Speaker 5 (25:15):
Yeah, we still wore those pants on Friday night, but we.

Speaker 4 (25:18):
Got more deep be coming up.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
Shout out to Rob.

Speaker 6 (25:21):
Merriton representing USA at the Olympics. It's one of the
biggest honors you can have. It's cool.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
I'm excited for it and hopefully I'm any. Are we
gonna be able to play?

Speaker 6 (25:36):
Be amazing having the USA? Oh your child, I've been
playing flag football for so long.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
I would love to have myself on that team.

Speaker 6 (25:43):
Playing it for the USA. That would be so tough.

Speaker 8 (25:45):
I played flag before, so I'm really excited about twenty
twenty eight Olympics.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
I'm sure they'll have some ballers overseas.

Speaker 6 (25:51):
They'd be excited to bear that flag the country. Being
able to represent something bigger than yourself, it's honestly priceless.
It's only going to help the sport to get it
around the world.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
The idea of being on an Olympic team, man, that'd
be something special.

Speaker 7 (26:06):
NFL players are going to be in the Olympics, But
who will it be? Who would you want it to be?
Let's find out right now. We're going to do a
good morning football draft. We've done many of them. They're
always fun. I always called it an undefeated segment, but
we've never drafted an Olympic flag football squad consisting of
NFL players. We're gonna do it right now, guys, four positions.
We're gonna get into the details shortly. But before we

(26:27):
have a draft, as I go to my friends in
La Joel and Chris and Sarah, we have to determine
a draft order. So we have a new toy we're
gonna play with this morning. You see the four boxes,
the G box, M, F and B. Pick a box
and in that box there is a number that will
come out and that will determine your draft pick.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Order one through four. Joel McHale, you are our guest
here today.

Speaker 7 (26:48):
Pick any of those boxes and a number will come
out that will be your draft pick.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
Kyle, will you repeat the rules?

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Go ahead? Your whi's ass go all right?

Speaker 5 (27:00):
I'm gonna go with F F.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
What's in the box?

Speaker 5 (27:05):
What's up the box?

Speaker 2 (27:07):
We got?

Speaker 5 (27:08):
Gwoneth Palpo's head. It's a four four?

Speaker 1 (27:11):
All right?

Speaker 2 (27:12):
Okay. Joe has the four pick, which means he'll go twice.

Speaker 7 (27:15):
Chris, Chris, Harris Junior. Which one do you want? The G,
the M or the B.

Speaker 6 (27:19):
I'll go with the B.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
Okay, bring out the B box? Please? What does Chris get?
What are you hoping for? Chris? One? Okay, I can
work with him, all right.

Speaker 5 (27:30):
And Kyle and Sarah.

Speaker 7 (27:31):
Chris says two, Now, Sarah, you get there's only two
boxes remaining, one of them with the one pick, one
of them with the three pick. Whichever remaining box you want,
F and B. You're gone for shoes G or M.

Speaker 4 (27:43):
Give me the M?

Speaker 2 (27:45):
What's in the M?

Speaker 3 (27:48):
M come, I was gonna say it, Sarah, which.

Speaker 7 (27:55):
Means that the last remaining box will go to me,
which means I have the three pick, bring out the
g that is Kyle, So the order will go Sarah, Chris, Kyle, Joel,
and then snake back in the second round with Joel, Kyle, Chris, Sarah.
One last bit of detail here. Yeah, we're going to
draft a four player roster. One quarterback, two wide receivers,

(28:17):
and one defensive back. You can draft them in any
order you want. But again, a quarterback, two wide outs,
and a defensive back. And with that, Sarah Walsh, you
are on the clock.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
Okay, some clarity here When you said you can draft
him in any order? Do I have to designate who
is playing what when I draft him? Because with pick
number one, I'm going Travis Hunter because obviously, if I
got to make the most of a couple people.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
Is he playing wide receiver?

Speaker 3 (28:44):
If my team gets picked, can he grip the flag
off right away? Is he playing defensive back? I don't
know what's going to be left on this board. I'm
not even going to say what I'm drafting him as
I just have Travis Hunter as number one.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
Because I got to choose wisely here. I might still
take another two receivers. I don't know. You didn't tell me.
I couldn't do.

Speaker 7 (28:58):
It, Sarah, for the sake of getting the plane down
on the runway, just designate one thing, please. We're one
pick into the segment.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
What would you designate him as?

Speaker 5 (29:13):
If you're just joining us? Sarah is still picking. Yes,
our first pick.

Speaker 7 (29:17):
Yes, what do you think, Sarah? Wide out or the
defensive back?

Speaker 4 (29:20):
He why out?

Speaker 2 (29:22):
All right? Wideouts? Thank you?

Speaker 7 (29:24):
You can maybe playing both ways, but let's call him
a white out. That means, Chris, you can have anybody
in the league other than Travis Hunter.

Speaker 8 (29:30):
I'm going with Kyler Murray right short. Oh wow, Earth,
It's gonna be hard to tag or hard to get
his flag. He can run, he can throw, He's a
full package man, Kyler Murky.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
All right.

Speaker 7 (29:43):
So I love Kyler and I had him on my
big board, but I am also running up to the
commissioner wherever he is to submit my pick.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
I'm taking Lamar. I'm taking Lamar all day.

Speaker 7 (29:55):
I love Lamar in regular football, but I adore him
in flag football. Elusive, great arm, everything you know the deal.
Lamar is off the board, which means, Joe McHale, you
get back to back picks here.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
Oh okay, boy, so I should write them both down. Yeah, okay,
hold on, all right, Josh Allen and I'm gonna get
yeah Jackson Smith at both as DB's okay, they're my dbs.

Speaker 7 (30:27):
Okay, Josh Allen as a defensive back, Jackson Smith and
Jigman the Seahawk who was fantastic in the Pro Bowl
playing flag football.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
I mean he was really, really good.

Speaker 5 (30:37):
He gets off the boats amazing.

Speaker 7 (30:39):
So now we're going down the second round. I took
Lamar Jackson with my first pick.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
I'm up again.

Speaker 7 (30:44):
I mean, I'll take Justin Jefferson and not even hesitate,
not blink.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
I got Lamar Jackson and Justin Jefferson. Chris Harris Junior.

Speaker 7 (30:52):
Who is your second pick after taking Kyler in the
first round?

Speaker 6 (30:55):
Tyreek Hill?

Speaker 8 (30:56):
Right, He said that he loves playing flag football and
he has experience doing it, So I'm gonna go with
the experience and speed.

Speaker 7 (31:05):
Sarah Walsh, Oh, you can take another wide out, a dB,
or a quarterback.

Speaker 4 (31:11):
I'm gonna take Jamar and for the sake of movie
this March. Yeah, yah, I'm gonna take Jamar.

Speaker 7 (31:17):
Great, all right, So Sarah is loaded at the wide
receiver position and some dash up defensive back as well. Chris,
we're back on this is right, Sarah. You go again,
You go again?

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Oh, I go again.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Okay, great, I need a quarterback and I'm gonna take.

Speaker 4 (31:34):
I'm taking Jade and Daniels.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
Jade Daniels is a great pick. Sarah. Squad is great,
all right, Chris.

Speaker 7 (31:42):
As we go through the third round, now you have
Kyler Murray, you have.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
Tyreek Hill and all there it is. Look at that
you stole my guy.

Speaker 8 (31:51):
Go ahead to the number one defensive back in the NFL.
I combined with the speed that I have on office,
and this guy could play offense too, right, So I
got a pretty much a duel threat. We pass thirteen
and a guy can play defensive.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
Back and offense.

Speaker 7 (32:04):
Like I love your squad, and that's in any fantasy draft.
I had Sirtan coming up with my pick, but instead
I'm not gonna cry about this. I'll take my second
wide receiver and I'll go Ceedee Lamb. I now have
Lamar Jackson, Justin Jefferson and Ceedee Lamb. I feel so
good about my team, it's abut And then we get
to our guy, Joel McHale. Joel has already made two picks.

(32:26):
He gives Josh Allen and Jackson Smith majigba. Now you again,
go back to back, Joel.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Who's your squad?

Speaker 5 (32:31):
I'm going with Drake London as my quarterback and Sas
Gardner is my other quarterback and Jalen Hurts is my fullback.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
Okay, so that's three picks.

Speaker 5 (32:43):
Yeah, what are you going to do about it? My
dyslexia is off the charts right now. I think I won.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
Joel. I'm into it. Joel squad is a perfect Joel squad.
I won't mess with it at all.

Speaker 7 (32:58):
I will land the plane here by saying, give me
Derek Stingley Junior as my defensive back. Huge contract, huge interceptions,
huge game breaking ability. Houston Texans are on the board.
My squad's incredible. Chris, who do you have left?

Speaker 2 (33:12):
You haven't?

Speaker 8 (33:14):
Brian Thomas, receiver, Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
We need a right.

Speaker 8 (33:18):
He's just gonna run past everybody from you know, from Spain, England,
doesn't matter where they're from, right, They can't keep up
with his speed. Brian Thomas man, We're gonna win the Chimpons.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
Sarah, mister irrelevant, I'm going Cooper is not irrelevant.

Speaker 5 (33:34):
Look at your penmanship. It's incredible. It's actually it's not.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
But if you hold yours up next to mine, mine
looks a lot better because mine is not great.

Speaker 4 (33:44):
But look at that.

Speaker 5 (33:44):
I got Batman on my team.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
That decided.

Speaker 5 (33:48):
Maybe spider Man Batman from Seattle.

Speaker 7 (33:53):
All drafted Batman out of Wayne University at Gotham State.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
Here we go, Let's look at the draft recap. Guys,
We've done four rounds.

Speaker 7 (34:01):
We got through it, and we're gonna let the people
decide who has the best squad as soon as we
get up the draft recap.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
Here we go.

Speaker 7 (34:08):
All right, So Sarah started off kind of controversially with
Travis Hunter.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
Gonna play both ways? And then Joel, what is your
take on this draft board? What jumps out to you?

Speaker 5 (34:16):
It's a lot of letters, a lot of initials, and
I know I'm gonna win.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
Okay, Chris, what do you think?

Speaker 8 (34:26):
I'm like Sarah's team? She got a nice little stick.
I like her team, you know, just a.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Little bit more speed, But I like the group this year.
Sarah Walsh, your analysis?

Speaker 3 (34:38):
Am I analyzing me or everyone. I'm gonna win because
of Travis Hunter. Obviously, I got a guy that, like,
somebody goes down and we didn't have. This isn't a
deep draft, right, so you gotta you need a guy
that can go both ways, and that's Travis.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
So I think I want I do.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
I would just for Chris Kyler was a great pick.

Speaker 5 (34:55):
I would say along state to the.

Speaker 7 (34:57):
Draft critics who say that Jackson, Smith and jig But.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
Went too early in the second round.

Speaker 5 (35:03):
I think that's ridiculous. He's one of the best players
in the league, so you can eat it. He should. Yeah,
he was first.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
Take that Daniel Jeremiah. That's what I want to say.

Speaker 5 (35:15):
I played fantasy football, but I'm so bad at it
and my dyslexia and ADHD years so I have to
have friends do it for me because I'm like, I
don't understand all this moving of words and things around.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
So Batman didn't bring a lot of points last year.

Speaker 5 (35:30):
I tried to get Batman out of my team. He
was so busy.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
He is busy saving Gotham.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
Yeah, takes it out of you, you know what I mean.

Speaker 5 (35:37):
And then I look at Chris, look at Chris's coat and.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
Yeah, that's busy, that's not capable.

Speaker 5 (35:44):
It's very cool.
