Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
What's up, everybody, This is Good Morning Football. We're live
as always in LA and New York City. Today it's Tuesday,
August fifth. Manti is already flexing. Jab are on Manti, Tao,
Kyle Brandt and Will Blackman. Here. Kyle, A very important
differentiation was announced yesterday, and that is a quarterback depth
chart on some of the rooms that we are looking
at across the league.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Is it and is it? Or? All we care about
is who's QB.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
One in Cleveland and Indianapolis.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
At this point?
Speaker 1 (00:36):
And we're going to get into it. Meanwhile, I'm reading
the New York Post. QB one Jamie is for the
Jets as Justin Fields is getting a pretty good write
up today. Garrett Wilson and Sauce went against each other
in practice. Sauce is getting the better of them, and
on the front page it's all kinds of stuff about
good jeans and things we're not going to get into.
But it's football time, guys, Good Morning football.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
That's wrong, twy you shu wear sweat fans?
Speaker 5 (01:09):
Good?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, that's right, everybody, what's happening? Good morning football everybody.
Jamie Mantai, Kyle and Will Will Blackman walked in the
studios today with the throwback Boston College jacket and I
was like, no, dude, we work for the Shield. We
go with the NFL jacket. Okay, Manti and Will, you
got a segment coming up? What are you guys doing
on three on three?
Speaker 5 (01:29):
So we're going to have some old faces and some
new places, you know, So we're going to get competitive
on this show.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
I can't wait.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Good that is. Oh, it's about time we get competitive.
You haven't been around as long. Turn Tuesday, Yeah, turn up. Yeah,
well things are heating up?
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Or what's up? Kyle?
Speaker 2 (01:45):
You look like you have something to say.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
No, not at all.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
I actually like the jacket. It makes me think of
Glenn Foley, some old Boston College guys that I used
to love.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
But you look good.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
We'll get competitive today. And Jamie, what division are we
going to start with? Just pick ticket, pick spin the wheel.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
It's actually not division specific just yet because first we're
going to look at Oxnard, California, but it is going
to spin us into our our first discussion.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
The Rams and.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
The Cowboys are having a joint practice up north of
us in Oxnard, California, and there's QB one for the
La Rams, Matt Stafford, who's been dealing with back soreness
once again, he will not participate in this joint practice.
He hasn't been around for the Rams participating with pads on,
but of course he is ever present for this team.
His head coach Sean McVay had to take in some
(02:27):
opinions on the routine that Stafford is now doing to
get back on the field for their offense.
Speaker 6 (02:32):
It's really just kind of it's static throwing, it's some
of the unloaded running on the treadmill. Sometimes it's might
even be walking. He's able to do a little bit
of you know, lighter cardio and able to do some
good core work, but it's more just functional strength surrounding
the area while making sure that you don't do anything
to set yourself back based on the trajectory that he's doing.
(02:52):
But we are looking forward to getting him and easing
him back into football, you know, hopefully you know, in
the in.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
The near future.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah, we're looking at twenty twenty five. But if you
look at how twenty twenty four went for this division,
it was a fascinating dynamic. You had a second year
head coach heading into Arizona, you had a new guy
up in Seattle, and then the old heads, if you will,
in the division with San Francisco and the La Rams.
Now once again the La Rams bubble to the surface
and they finished ten and seven. It was a tight
race down the stretch, but Stafford and the Rams came out,
(03:21):
came out on top.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
This is a new year.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
We're now changing that number to twenty twenty five. Kyle,
and I know you specifically always have an opinion about
one team and one head coach in the NFC West.
But when you look at this group of four, is
this a wide open race?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
It's open. I don't know about wide open.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
I think we would all be very genuinely surprised if
the Air aren't a cardinal straight up won the division
this year, and they might. But a wide open I
define as all four teams could very feasibly win the division.
I still look at the Rams, though, and we're still
in this period where all the football we have to
look at is last season. I think we can all agree,
guys that last year the Eagles were the best team
(03:59):
in the NFL and I don't think it was close.
And the Eagles in the playoffs, they destroyed the Chiefs.
In the Super Bowl, they destroyed the Commanders, they destroyed
the Packers.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
There was that.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
One game the Rams were right there. The Rams almost
had them. The Rams were a play away from flipping
the table.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
On Philadelphia in Philadelphia in.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
The elements, and they got sacked and the game went away.
But they were knocking on the door to beat by far.
I think the best team in the NFL. The Eagles
won that game because they had better talent than the Rams.
The Rams went out and got DeVante Adams switched some
things up. I really like this Rams team. I think
DeVante is gonna work. I think he's gonna have ninety
catches this year. I think it's gonna be a huge success.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
I am not very concerned about Matthew Stafford right now
because check's date.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
It is August fifth, and when I see back soreness
on an old veteran quarterback, Matthew Stafford is at that
age where you can injure yourself sneezing.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
I'm not worried about that.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
When he starts the season, he'll be starting the season
like the Matthew Stafford that we know. I also just
have one other, just kind of a public service announcement
before I hear your guys thoughts. In the NFC West,
it's almost playoff pick in time when you have to
go as a media member or as a fan and
pick your fourteen playoff teams. Pick the Rams, Pick the Rams,
you pick the Steelers. I've been telling you that for years.
(05:13):
I'm telling you now, pick the Rams. Maybe it's division winner,
maybe it's wildcard. Pick the Rams. I'm making this easy
for you. Don't have to pick fourteen teams. You have
to pick twelve. Pick the Steelers, and pick the you
know what, pick the Chiefs as well. You have to
pick eleven teams. It is way easier. Don't be like, yeah,
but the Rams this bad McVay. They have Stafford. Pick
the Rams. And don't come crying to me when the
(05:33):
Rams are in the playoffs you're like, I didn't really
like them.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
I heard on Stafford's.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Wife's podcast, blab blah no, no, no, pick the Rams, the
Steelers and the Chiefs, and then the other eleven are
up to you.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Promise, Promise me you'll do that.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
I'm talking not just to you guys, talking to all
the shows, all the people. I promise you, I'm crap
at some of the things in this industry.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
I'm pretty good at this. Pick the Rams, Steelers and
Chiefs and the rest of them are up to you.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
See Kyle this, I do feel like you're speaking directly
at me and straight into my soul. Because Manti here,
this will be his first pass at putting his name
behind the playoff team seven on each side. And Kyle,
I try to learn from you. You are, as you said,
like the best of the business and some and like
not great.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
It's a lot of things, but that's cool.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
We don't have to address those. But Kyle, what I
learned from you often is to sometimes be a contrarian
on topics and to look at the way that people
usually do things and go the other way. This is
very confusing to me because you are actively telling me
every year to pick the Rams and the Steelers. It
makes me want to not put them in.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
So what am I supposed to.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Do with this?
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Well, listen, you get wild with some of the other picks. Wait,
can you see some of my playoff picks. I love
this year's Anthers team. Guys, I'll go nuts. But you
have to have a few you have to have a
foundation for the house.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Just a few things that make sense. What do you
think will I don't want to be stock will go ahead.
Speaker 7 (06:45):
The Rams are the leader for sure, because when it
comes down to it, I just look at the head
coach in quarterback situation, and Sean McVay is, you know,
still to me top five coach in the entire league.
And obviously Matt Stafford's still elite. You know, some people
haven't ranked top five quarterbacks right now, and that's what
the difference is. The forty nine ers, sure, there's there's
(07:06):
still even though they finished last.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
It's still that measuring stick.
Speaker 7 (07:09):
And yeah, they paid Purdy, which is great, but you
know they reash out with the defense, dealing with some
injuries early on offense, so we're just not sure. Obviously
losing Deebo Sammit that's a big deal. And then you
look at Seattle new identity, new quarterback. They get rid
of the you know, the Ogs in terms of dk Metcalf,
Gino Smith, Tyler Lockett, and you're bringing Cooper Cup but
still you're still unsure what they're doing. You look at Cardinals,
(07:32):
they're pretty much my dark horse. Right if Kylin Murray
can be who he is and now he has more
support offensively, he could be dynamic, you know. And then
obviously I already mentioned the Rams. So right now it
is pretty wide open. But at the end of the day,
when it comes to the Rams defensively sound outside in
terms of the receivers, very sound in elite running backs,
(07:52):
very sound e least.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
So just overall it is wide open. But the Rams.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Yes, what I'm daming is the Rams are at the
top and the rest of you think it's wide open
in two.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
Three, four, Well it's wide open, Jamie for the Rams.
It's going to be a Rams fest in the MC
west from in my opinion, will you mentioned the head
coach and the quarterback, I'm going to mention everybody else.
Let's bring this whole thing. Let's put the light on
this whole team. Defensively, we don't talk about the defense
that much, but the rookies on that defensive team, Brandon Fisk,
(08:22):
Cameron Kitchens, Jared Versus those three guys. There are young guys,
but if you look at their production.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
The late into the season, first first first first first,
So there's.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Not a lot of talk about that defense, especially with
that young nucleus that they have there with the three rookies.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
Now I'm going to get.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Into the offense.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
Okay, this offense is going to keep a lot of
defensive coordinators up at night. It is okay, Cover one.
You ever thought about running cover one against the Rams?
Throw it in the trash. You're not going to run
cover one? Why because if Matt Stafford sees you bring
one of your two safeties into the box, he's going
to number seventeen DeVante Adams nine times out of ten.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
It don't matter how many.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
Times did we see KB Aaron Rodgers on a run
play throw the ball out there to DeVante Adams because
he was on an island. That's what's going to happen
for the La Rams. Okay, if you put a safety
over there, what are you going to do to put
on the coup on the other side, because he's going
to torch you wherever he goes. And if you have
both safeties out on both of these receivers, what are
you going to do.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
With Karen Williams in a run game.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Karen Williams, who's seventh in rushing yards in the league,
who's fit in rushing touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
And has a sixty percent success rate.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Against a stacked box KB A stack box. A stack
box is when you bring a safety.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Into the box.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
So this offense has already giving you a puzzle that
is almost impossible to figure out. So it is wide
open for the La Rams. So I don't know what
we're talking close a case. It's over, Jamie.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Someone shot you out of canadadate ye. He's literally listen, Gaby, listen.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
You're making a case with the Rams to the man
that just said everyone should pick the Rams in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
I am putting a staff on what Kyle Brand said
because I'm a stampit a stack box, stack.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
The box, put the Rams in the first, and a
w Okay, here's the exercise now at hand, Arts and
crafts time, got our whiteboards and true GMFB style. It
is the NFC West. You are looking at one position,
in one position only the thrower of the ball. Rank
your quarterbacks as you see them currently in the NFC West.
And whoever, he who writes fast enough gets to go first.
(10:25):
As I am buying time for everybody.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
I want to go last.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Okay, Kyle's gonna go last. He's already proclaimed it even
though he's done first.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
That means Will as.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
The rookie, you guys, you go as the rookie.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Yes, go, well by the rookie.
Speaker 7 (10:37):
I was here in twenty seventeen, the same show, not
the same show.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
You're right, all right, here we.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Go, all right, Will's got it.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
Here we go.
Speaker 7 (10:48):
Oh funny Stafford, Party, Murray, Sam Darnold, Sam Clemente.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
Yees. Put. I put a line here because I mean,
I just think drop. I just dropped. Yeah. I just
think that.
Speaker 7 (10:59):
With Stafford, he is he is that much better than
everybody else.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Yep, and so here and.
Speaker 7 (11:03):
Then Party obviously, just based on his efficiency, what he
has done. He I mean, he's the perfect quarterback for
this offense. He's doing an amazing job. And Colin Murray
what we saw his rookie year, what we saw he
can do his upside.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
I think still, if everything.
Speaker 7 (11:17):
Comes together with this team, he could be back into
the MVP conversation and Sam Donald, you know, just because
everyone else is better than Sam.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
Okay, Well, okay, so I got the same thing as well.
But I don't have that gap, okay, because I don't
think that gap is as big as willis saying I
got Stafford up there. I got Party at number two. Now,
a lot of people don't give Party a lot of credit.
I don't don't know if we have that graphic, but
I don't throw Party up there compared to all the
other NFC you don't have it. That's okay, but Party,
if you would exclude twenty twenty two, which is a
(11:44):
big year to exclude because that's a year that the
LA Rounds won the super Bowl. Party has almost the
same amount of wins, the same amount of playoff appearances
as everybody as Matt Stafford. So I got him there. Now,
Kyler Murray, because he's the widely veteran in the NFC West,
I have at number three. And Sam Donald. It's yet
to be determined. With Sam Donald going intox system over
(12:05):
there in Seattle, I don't know what to expect there
with him being on a new team in the new system.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
So I got him at number four.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
KB, I have the exact same right, Maybe this wasn't
the greatest exercise. And then I'm scared being like, should
I just light my hair on fired and say Sam
Donald is the number one?
Speaker 3 (12:21):
No, I don't believe that. I'm not going to do that.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
I will say there's something interesting going on in this
segment and it pertains to Sam Donald and the Seahawks.
You know, yesterday I got a note over the internet
through social media from someone who watches the show. I
don't know this person. This guy's name is Bill, and listen,
listen what he says. He says, I watched GMFB all
the time.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
But he says he's getting frustrated. There are thirty two.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
Teams in the NFL, and all the program talks about
it is a Dallas Cowboys in their camp. Even if
you do briefly talk about another team goes back to
the Cowboys and Jerry Jones.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Bill, I hear you. I hear you, and I hate that.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
I don't want you to feel that way because that
goes against everything we feel about this show. The Seahawks
have a quarterback who put up really good numbers last
year all being on an team.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
The Seahawks at a really good record last year.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
The Seahawks are a promising team with an ascending head
coach and a lot of intrigue and mystery, and for
some reason, they just don't have the sizzle. They don't
have the rams. They don't have the Niners. They just
don't have it. And we're all just resolutely putting Sam
Donald down here at number four, even though brock perty
was really averaged last year with McCaffrey hurt, and Kyler
(13:28):
was really just sort of fine last year playing the
whole season. So by far, the most intriguing, quietest team
in this division is the Seahawks, and they probably deserve
better than that.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Kyle, I actually can't believe so you asked to go last, Kyle,
this is just opening the book. Did you think that
your list was going to be profoundly different because the
fact that you three had the same exact names. It's
very unlike us.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
As a show.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
And frankly, I'm gonna stand up for Sam Donald. I
can't believe that if you look at roster comparison, no
matter if Sam Donald was in Minnesota last year, Seattle,
you are all three matter of factly going to tell
me that Kyler Murray as a Sam in division is
a better in a better situation, and a better quarterback
than Sam Donald. I don't know if it's because it's
everyone had the same and now I'm feeling defensive for
the guy that's sitting at four.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
But that's very nice. What's your ranking? Shadow?
Speaker 4 (14:20):
I think it's.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
All right, stan stam By it stand by. I'm it's
just all gonna yeah, I'm gonna go that stand by,
just to make sure. I it's this is Donald at
three and Kyler at four and pretty at two.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
So I put Stafford up top. I'm I just flip flapped.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Him with the rest of you did. Why are you
looking at me like that? Fourteen wins, fourteen wins.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
He was in a new system last year. Sam Donald
was now Kyler. Murray's been in the same system for
two years and the second year didn't go as well
as it did for Sam Donald in the first year
with Kevin O'Connell. So I can't believe that, after having
been in San Francisco with Clint Kubiak, the rest of
you are just gonna put Donald at the bottom. Why
out of default because he's never been in the division before.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
No, Jamie, It's just like, no one loves Sam Donald.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
That's not sure.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
He goes to a new team every year. Somebody lets
him go.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
He's been on like five teams in four years or
something crazy like that.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
It's so he has this stamp.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
On him about like he's Sam Donald, and I think
he's a great dude and played really well last year.
You know what it is to the Kyler thing. We're
still also seduced by the Kyler talent. This is the
number one pick. He does this crazy skill set, like
it didn't pan out great last year, but there's a
sense that maybe the Cardinals are still ascending and Donald
(15:36):
is just the guy who is like kind of the
babysitter for teams that just gets passed around the neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Why is he wearing shorts like that is actually I've
never seen any quarterback for He's got an interesting choice.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
Is called the marathon shorts. Maybe that's just.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
What Maybe that's what he's gonna be running like this year.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
And they're so short, they must be really short shorts.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
It could be underwear. It could be underwear.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Cou all right, that's how we feel about the NFC
West this morning, and sincerely to Bill, thank you for
watching the show. The other Boys, we only mentioned the
Cowboys one time at the start of the segment, and
it's only because the Rams are visiting Oxnart and that
was it. Otherwise we looked at the NFC West, So
that was a love letter to Bill. We apologize for
covering the Cowboys too, Michel. Kyle Grant loves to hear
(16:17):
this in the commercial not ten seconds before I started.
I'm gonna throw something at Kyle. Hopefully he can go
with me on this before this, before the following topic, Kyle,
can you come up with a band or a concept
in time where like it's really important whose ever name
comes first in the band, and like maybe the band
members get fights over this and like no, I'm the
more important band member or something like dally Is that
(16:39):
a thing in music amongst musicians? Do you have any
rent memories?
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (16:42):
I think especially when somebody other than the lead singer
is the most famous member of the band, Like you
look at van Halen, literally the band is named after
the lead guitarist and the drummer.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
But do you have David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Who's like, I'm up front, I'm saying it should be
about me, So that would be my comp for that.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Why how are we going to apply that well.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Because like Van Halen and David Lee Roth, it feels
like a very strange way to explain, Like what the
band is about. And that's how I feel about quarterback
depth charts. So like we're trying to figure out what's
happening in Indianapolis. Is it Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson?
And that very important word is or like whose name
comes first? Because at this point the Colts have listed
their depth chart and they have the word or in there.
(17:22):
They haven't figured out who QB one is yet, And
in my mind, I'm like, well, whose name came first?
And that's how I'm trying to read into this thing.
So much will if you are in that quarterback room
and it doesn't matter whose name comes first, it matters
who's starting in week one or and what have you.
Who should it be for the Colts, Daniel Jones or
Anthony Richardson? Who's the leader of the band.
Speaker 7 (17:42):
The leader of the band, It got to be ar
Anthony Richardson just because of what his ability is. You
look at this offense and what Shane Steichen does. This
office is designed to threaten you vertically, horizontally.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
He presents all those problems and.
Speaker 7 (17:57):
As a coach, like an I coach, coaches needs a coach.
I said that four times coaches needs to coach and
don't take the EU and be like, Okay, we're just
gonna put Daniel Jones because we know what he can do.
We've seen this movie before, we see this is like
this is like Jurassic Park three. Right, We've seen one
and two, we see the third one. Okay, we know
what's happening. We know what's going on. Sure, the t
(18:17):
rexs is gonna come out, but give me something new,
give me, give me the adominus rex right, give me owen.
Let let's go out there someone who can speak to raptors.
And I feel like with Anthony Richardson what he can do,
he's he's.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
So effective, he's so explosive.
Speaker 7 (18:30):
And also he's still I think he's still top five
one of the youngest quarterbacks in the entire NFL. So
let's not we know we're gonna get we put Daniel
Jones out there. We've seen this story before. Let's not
play safe. Let's set the tone for the fans. Let's
get Anthony Richardson rolling, Let's get him going.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
M I don't know.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
I mean you talk about we know what we're gonna
get from Daniel Jones. We also know we're gonna get
from Anthony Richardson and think about football as this, Ladies
and gentlemen, Football is the greatest team sport. Why because
my success on the team depends on you. My success
depends as a quarterback on my online blocking. My success
depends on my running back really getting those extra yards.
(19:10):
My success depends on my receivers catching the ball. Now
when I can depend on you because you tap out
of me in a game, in a critical game situation,
I don't know. As a teammate we're talking about Jamie.
You said, how would it feel to be a QB
in that room? I'm trying to think about how would
it feel to be a teammate in that locker room?
When I witnessed my starting my starting quarterback tap out
(19:32):
in the middle of a game, I have never seen
that happen ever. Well, matter of fact, I seen that
once and it was on to remember the Titans when
PT tapped out of the game.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
That's the only time.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
And if you're looking at Daniel Jones, Daniel Jones isn't
Ryan Gosling.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
He's not going to give him.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
If Daniel Jones gets the starting position, he's not going
to go up to the coach and say, hey, coach,
I'm not doing well. Stick Anthony Richardson and he's not
going to do that. Okay, So as a teammate, as
somebody who's bled sweat and really went through some growth
pains with you, for you to demonsh that I can't
count on you in certain situations, even if it's for
(20:07):
one play on a third down, when I need you,
when I needed you the most, you were not there.
I gotta go with Daniel Jones because at least I
know you're not going to tap out on me.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
That's it. Yeah, listen, the tap I thing was bad.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
It's like that's something that that's a tattoo on somebody
that will always be remembering. Anthony richards can go on
be a Hall of Fame quarterback and they'll still bring
that up. But that's also part of the reason I'm
rooting for him, like a I would as a fan,
cards on the table. I'd much rather see Anthony Richardson
out there. It's more interesting to me, it's more exciting.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
But also, guys, this is the fourth overall pick.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
The Colts said, you are our future, you are our franchise.
I would love to see that work out. Drafting a
quarterback fourth overall and having to just completely bomb.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
Nobody likes that story.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
It's a much cooler thing that Anthony Richardson is winning
for the Colts this year than Daniel Jones is winning
for the Colts.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
And Jamie to your point, I.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Looked it up on Colts dot com on the unofficial
depth chart. I guess official it is say or and
Daniel Jones is first, but maybe it's because it's alphabetically
he comes before Richardson. I think it's a little bit
of a cop out. Name your starter, don't name your starter.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
Fine.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
I guess for the upside for us, it's just fans
and enthusiasts is that they're saying this thing is that
even we are really gonna play this out in the preseason.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
So coach preseason games mean a lot.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
There's Thursday night they're playing one on this network, and
it's like if somebody throws a pick, they're not starting.
I think thirty one of their teams know who their
starter is. This one genuinely doesn't. I hope it's Richardson
more interesting to watch and I think a better story.
Speaker 7 (21:42):
Yeah, and Aar hasn't played a lot of football he's
still very very young, and he's still learning, he's still
getting coached up. And yeah, I love remember the Titan
reverences mantile. We could put Daniel Jones back there and
guess what, all these teams.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
They're gonna blitz all night.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
That's what they're gonna They're gonna blit Daniel.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Jones all night.
Speaker 7 (21:58):
We don't want to see the same story. Put Anthony
back there, let him do his thing and set the
tone for this friend. He is the future for this team.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Like that, it reminds me of a couple of years
back with Drew Locke and Gino Smith in Seattle and
they were neck and neck through I think third fourth
week into August, and it wasn't until I think in
illness Drew Locke that that eve that race even changed
and it became Geno Smith's team and he had a
prolific season. But that was the differentiation. There was just
like a circumstance that was unforeseen for the quarterbacks. But
(22:27):
sometimes these things do play out through August twenty first,
twenty second, and we will be along for the ride
the entire time. Speaking of along for the ride, Sodor
Sanders is going to make his NFL debut on Friday nights,
when Cleveland travels to play the Carolina Panthers. He's excited
to show what he can do and doesn't want to
take this opportunity for granted.
Speaker 8 (22:44):
I think every rep I get in general, is valuable.
You know, we definitely take it things up and not
I would say, with everything. So every rep, you know,
anytime I step on the field, I take it, you know,
like it could be my last, because you don't know.
It's players that we was just practicing with last week
that's not here no more. So, like I said, it's
(23:05):
more about a bond, is more about going all out,
is more about you know, how you'll be remembered.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
What strengthford looks yours?
Speaker 7 (23:12):
Do you think can show up in a game setting
that maybe we've done same as much as practice.
Speaker 8 (23:18):
Have you asked me in college? Well, you know a
little bit of that going on. I'm still the same guy,
you know, I don't nothing happened to me. I'm the
same guy. If anything, I'm a little bit stronger mentally, physically,
emotionally the way how I handle different situations.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
So he's good to hear from.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Shadur, whose name is currently listed as the fourth quarterback
in the unofficial depth chart that was announced by the
Cleveland Browns. At number one for the quarterback room is
the forty year old Joe Flacco. Can He Pickett sits
at two, and Dylan Gabriel, the rookie that was drafted
before Shador, currently sits at quarterback three. So will when
you look at this room when you assess what's going
(23:56):
on in Cleveland, do you think it should be Flaco
by the time Week one rolls around.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
I'm sorry, this exactly this quarterback talk. You know, it's
a in my emotional.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
This is this. I get emotional about Dylan Gabriel too.
Speaker 7 (24:12):
You know, this is speaking of the number forty they will,
this will be they had forty quarterbacks start since what
nineteen ninety nine I played for the Packers and we
had I think it's nine, just nine.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
I think Packers had.
Speaker 7 (24:24):
Thirty four different quarterbacks in the history of the of
the Packers.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
I mean, yes, Joe, Joe would have not came back.
Speaker 7 (24:31):
To the Browns if he weren't going to be the starter.
And I believe that, and so most likely it's going to.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
Be Joe Flacco. But but why not go crazy? Right?
Speaker 7 (24:41):
Why not have your forty first starting quarterback. You brought
it Huntley, you know, the apparently the brown sign. Apparently
the brown sign Huntly, you know, due to some depth
not death, but injury health issues in the quarterback. Why
not just throw Huntley out there and see what happens.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
Make it.
Speaker 7 (24:57):
Just keep making history, the forty first quarterback. This has
been This has been tough. This has been an ongoing discussion.
I remember that when RG three was there, that jersey
that had all the names on it, the CBS.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
Yeah, they just they just can't the CBS receipt. I
like that. That's really good.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
So you're saying, you're saying, put Huntley in there? Is
that what you're saying. So you're saying the field.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
The field, not just necessarily Huntley, but the field.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
Okay, so anybody, but don't mess around and have it
not be Flacco.
Speaker 4 (25:21):
Okay, just mess around. They're messing around now. They draft
three quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (25:25):
You know as well, well Will Will you're tripping because
it's going to be Joe Flackel. Okay, Joe Fleckel. You
better start Joe Flackel. Out of all those quarterbacks, you
could have twenty quarterbacks. You've only have history with one,
and that's Joe Flackel. He went four to one for
you in twenty twenty three. The only he's the only
quarterback that's been in that locker room before, that's that's
played games for you, that's that's produced in any type
(25:46):
of way for you. As Joe Flackel, He's four and
one for you since twenty twenty three. So if in
pertense to this question, will I got to say, it's
Joe Flackle. The field it's constantly changing for him. So
I don't even know who is going to be there tomorrow,
Like I gotta go with Joe Flackel because at least
I know he's going to be there tomorrow and hopefully
through the future.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
God, this is just absolutely the best.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
I love this quarterback room so much, just when we
thought it couldn't get any weirder.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Let me get this straight.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
So Shador's banged up, Kenny Pickett's banged up, Dylan Gabriel's
banged up.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
The Browns have one.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Healthy quarterback and it's the guy who's eighty six years old.
That's the only guy who's healthy. Joe Flacco is the
one guy who's not banged up at all.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
It's unbelievable. Snoopot Lee love it. Bring them all on.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
This is a really really interesting thing that just keeps
getting weirder. I saw there was the report, you know,
that they were holding out Shadur with a sore shoulder,
and friend of the show Kurt Benkert, who's got a
good voice about NFL stuff, his tweet response was this
is what they do before a trade, and I was like, Oh,
that's interesting. But then I'm like, who is trading for Shadeur?
(26:50):
Nobody wanted to draft him, Now you want to trade
him now that he's injured with the brown What are
we doing?
Speaker 3 (26:55):
I can't see that either.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
So this is endlessly fascinating, and it keeps coming back
to the question is yeah, Joe Flacco is going to
start for the Browns.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
I thought it might have.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
I thought Picket might have had a shot, but he's
injured now and Shadoor is running with the fours. It's
not He's not even in the stratosphere of starting or
getting on the field. Dylan Gabriel is someone we never
even mentioned, even though he was drafted well ahead of Shador.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
It's so interesting and.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
I just can't get over the fact the odds off
favorite that Joe Flacco is the only healthy guy they
have right now. Week one can't cater fast enough. This
Browns team's fascinating. They haven't eve played a game yet.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
I kind of want to keep snowballing on this conspiracy
theory that Chad is going to get treated that so
maybe they've held him out and he's going to start
this preseason game, get enough stuff on tape so they
can market him and then get a trade for him.
But who would need that at this juncture in the season. Man,
that just opened up a can of worms for me.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
Willi Cologne said the Jets the other week, Oh Willie
Clone throwing out there the backup fields to Brecco Field.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Remember so Willi Clone came on show.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
The only team right now who would make a trade
for some guy who might play at quarterback. Maybe it's
it's it's obvious and it's the Saints. But like the Saints,
they could have drafted Shador. They had multiple opportunities. They
know all about Shador. What have they seen since then?
They're like, let's bring him in.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
Yeah, But Derek Carr hadn't retired yet, so they didn't
They didn't feel compelled. Right, What was the timing on that?
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Yeah, right exactly, So they're not nobody trading for Shador
right right?
Speaker 3 (28:22):
Joe Black over the field?
Speaker 2 (28:23):
It will be a question that keeps us ull I.
Speaker 7 (28:25):
Played against the field. When they played the Browns, they
played against six different quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
All right, there we go. It was after the draft.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Welcome back to JMFB. Everybody. We love each other on
the show.
Speaker 5 (28:36):
However, we do love to take advantage to get competitive.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Now we'll play defense. I played defense.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
So we look at some of the new new places,
new faces and new places, some veterans that are in
new places that we think are going to have a
successful year come twenty twenty five. So Will, who's a
f first? You're going first? You're a visitor, bro, you
go first. Who's the first person on your list? Will Blackman?
You better bring it because I got some heat us.
Speaker 7 (29:03):
You know what's cool? He notes, I don't even need notes.
We got Jayalen Ramsey up first. Go into the Steelers.
You don't get this guy and pay him just to
be a corner. You don't need to be. You use
him because he's a star player. What they use in
the Rams I mentioned Rayhie Morris. What he did had
them on over the place. You got Darius Slay outside,
you got poored at one side, you got Thornhill the safety,
you got Ellie at the safety. So everything else is
(29:24):
locked down. You can move him all over the place. He
could blitz, he could lock up wherever he wants. You
can go against twelve personnel. He can cover a tight end. Again,
make it outstanding plays, incredible ball skills, very physical tackler.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
And we mentioned earlier this.
Speaker 7 (29:37):
Week last week, Yes, he does remind us of Charles
Woods and how he can be used all over the place.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
Jalen Ramsey Jyalen rams this year, well, I like Jaylen
Ramsey especially paired up with that pass rush.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
It's gonna be dangerous, no.
Speaker 7 (29:50):
You seen them?
Speaker 5 (29:51):
Okay, talk about hits. This is a guy that's gonna
have a lot of hits. He had a lot of
hits for the San Francisco four nine ers. He's going
to have a lot of hits for the Denver Broncos.
Put my boy up there. Drag green Law, Now, Drake
green Law, understand this. The Denver Broncos run the fourth
highest rate of blitz they run the fourth highest rate
of man coverage. Now what does that mean for a linebacker?
That means I have two responsibilities. I'm either blitzing or
I'm playing man coverage. You already know what Drake Greenhow
(30:14):
is gonna do when he blitzes. You definitely know what
he's gonna do when he.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Hits a run.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Look at that.
Speaker 5 (30:18):
Yeah, I love that dre But also if you don't
know anything about man coverage, just just click on that
Super Bowl when they play the Chiefs. Travis Keltz had
one reception one yard apps Straps. When Drake green Law
was out he had nine targets, eight receptions ninety two yards.
So that just goes to show that Drake Greenlaw knows
us up when it comes to playing defense.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Who you got number two?
Speaker 4 (30:40):
You know he's legit.
Speaker 7 (30:40):
We need health Dealer, we need you on healthy because
he's outstanding. But my number two, let's go has on
Reddick all the way down to Tampa Bay. All I
gotta say is this man knows how to get to
the quarterback and he can only improve what I would on.
This is what I would do. Can we come to me,
please real quick. We don't know the highlights of school.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
Please come to me. Listen.
Speaker 7 (30:58):
What we need from you, huss On Reddick is you're
in Tampa Bay. All you gonna do is just go
into the files. Just go into the files. Look up
semior Rice, Look up Derek Brooks. Just look up all
those guys. Look up Warren sat There's a lineage. There's
a history of guys there who help you get to
the quarterback in Toabows a defensive genius.
Speaker 5 (31:14):
Let's go well, I like that Rusher. I like your rusher.
I like your Rusher. I like Hassan Reddick. I also
like Joey Bosa. Joey Beoja went to the Bills. We
drafted him my fourth year in San Diego. And let
me tell you, everybody says every batman needs a robbin,
But on the Buffalo Bills, what if you have a
whole bunch of batman's. You have Ajnvanessa, Greg Russo and
Ed Oliver. You pair that up with Joey Bosa. It
(31:36):
reminds me when we had Joey and Melvin Ingram on
the field at the same time. If you're a quarterback,
what are you going to do. When you have two
elite pass rushers on different sides of the field, you
can't swing the offensive line both ways.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
So I think that Joey Bosa.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
Going from the Chargers to the Buffalo Bills, it's going
to be a beautiful marriage between those two. It's going
to be a great addition for that defense. And I'm
looking forward to seeing my former teammate do big things
for the Buffalo Bills this year will look round.
Speaker 7 (32:04):
Bro, Listen, I love that, and yeah, Buffalo They're gonna
do great there. But listen, this is for the ogs man,
you know.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
What I'm saying. Like I finished around thirty five years old,
this is for the OJ's. Let's go Von Miller. We're
gon go Von Miller going.
Speaker 7 (32:17):
To the commanders at thirty seven years old. This is
the guy where you literally you just hire him. He's
like Jason Boyn. You hire him, he gets a job done.
Hire him, gets a job done. Championships two times. This
reminds me of when green Bay went to get Reggi
Waite right, Regguaight came to green Bay, got it championship
and oh, by the way, when Reggie Ratt was thirty
(32:37):
seven years Old he won Defensive Player of the Year.
Von Miller I got see similar success. He's not gonna
play sixty snaps a game. He's probably gonna play twenty snaps,
and he might have twenty sacks.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
That just might happen. He's in dan Quiz defense.
Speaker 7 (32:49):
Michael Parsons cooked a lot of guys cooked in that defense.
So yeah, let's go von Miller. And it got twenty
four he represents. That's a great number for just in general.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
I like von Miller.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
I think it's going to be a great situational player.
Question commanders. Now, Okay, so you see these notes right here.
So I got notes on my last guy. You see that,
throw him away because I don't need him. Talanoa Hufanga.
He's gonna be the.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
Denver Broncos safety. I already talked about how they like
to blitz.
Speaker 5 (33:12):
I already talked about holiday to play man. Now you
can incorporate that with the Denver Broncos and you have
Patrick Shirtan will your dB. You know this dynamic. If
I am Talano Hufanga and I am in man coverage
and I get to be a roaming safety, I don't
have to worry about Patrick shirtan side, so technically I
can cheat to another side. And that is where Talanoa
(33:33):
Hufunga is dangerous when you allow him to be cerebral,
when you allow him to play with instinct, and that
Denver Broncos defense is going to allow him and enable
him to play with those instincts.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
That.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
Oh, by the way, his second year was first team
All Pro Talanoa Hufanga wrap it up.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
So that's our you know what, I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
I'm a huge fan.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
I'm not gonna lie. Look get out against us standing.
But Team Blackman, you know we're holding it down. Somebody,
somebody on T.
Speaker 7 (34:00):
Blackman is going to the super Bowl. I'm telling you,
somebody on T. Blackman is winning defense played the year.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
Oh wow, you know.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
Right now, I don't know about that, but round one,
two and three, four team loose, we're going to Super
Bowl games.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
You don't know about that compliment.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
If you're Sean Payton and you bring both of those
guys in and you're picking two of them on it
on the Broncos defense. Although your buddy Robert Splain call
and he was wondering why you wouldn't put him on
the one.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
Yeah, Rob, I do love you.
Speaker 5 (34:29):
Mike Grabo did catch you on the Mike dough saying
you ain't hit since you hit Derek Henry Brown, but
you're gonna get a lot of hits for the Patriots
this year.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
Robert Splain, I do love you. I missed that one.
My bad, Robert, my bad. KB What do you think?
Speaker 1 (34:43):
I think the Bosa one's interesting on Buffalo, you know,
because I think the Bills, if they're one missing piece,
maybe is they They've been lacking that huge sack guy,
like the guy who's just he's gonna get double digits.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
You know, they tried it with Von Miller. It didn't
really work.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
He got injured, and now they're bringing in Bosa almost
in the same way they brought in Miller, and again injuries.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
I mean, you mentioned Mantid that they're all bad.
Speaker 8 (35:04):
Man.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
It's Bain broke.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Batman's backs is often broken. It's the it's the real
frustrating thing about Joey Bosey goes through those injuries. So
if you're looking for that one piece for Buffalo to
finally beat Kansas City in January, like the big time
pass rusher, is something that could work out but folks
have got to be out there.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
Man.
Speaker 7 (35:22):
My team KB, my team though, talk about my team?
Speaker 4 (35:24):
Who like my team?
Speaker 3 (35:25):
No? I like your tim. I like your tim, I
like a lot. Who is your favorite one on your team?
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Will like if you had to point one, like, who's
your team captain's Jalen?
Speaker 4 (35:36):
Jalen?
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (35:37):
I think he's gonna be a huge X factor in Pittsburgh,
no question, no question.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
I got Drake greenlaw drink Girl was my god. The spear,
the spear. He's the first one that I sent out there.
Drake Green.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
Take a look.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Viewers of GMTB pick it apart shot just in case,
just for our captain of our honorable mention team. You
know we got to go explain in New England.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
I can't believe you.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Don't have your guy. I love Robert, I love it,
Robert over cool.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Being Robert splane. Mike Rabel loves that guy.
Speaker 5 (36:07):
Great job, bro, great job to be continued to be TVD.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
I'll turn up to TVD.
