Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Welcome to you, Good Morning Football. We are live in
Los Angeles. It is Wednesday, July twenty third. I'm Sarah
Wall's joined by Mantaitya. We got julil A die back
with us after.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
A phenomenal day yesterday.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
And Mitch Morse you better bring it today. He's joining
us from our New York studio.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Mitch, We're so happy to have you this morning.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
I am freezing and I'm happy to be here. Thank
you for having me.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
I'm going to explain why Mitch is saying that in
just a second. Let's go here on a Wednesday, Let's
go Good Morning Football.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
We have reached the halfway point of the week. It
is Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
We are here live in Los Angeles. Sarah, Mantaile and Mitch.
And Mitch just mentioned that he is freezing in New York.
And the reason he's saying that, Look, Mitch, you obviously
come with a different contract than Wes Wilson, a very
fancy contract because when West joined us this week, we
didn't carry the air conditioning bill out there in New York,
(01:21):
and this was more West in commercial breaks. The guy
was just struggling out there.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
Mitch.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
We got it fixed just for you.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
I'm sure West is gonna love that we're pulling this
up once again.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Yes, whipping his nips out. You have to do it
when you gotta find it cool possible, you know. They
they made a remarkable comeback. It's a beautiful studio here,
and I am exceptionally comfortable.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
I did not think that was going to be the
first line out of your mouth this morning, what you
just said.
Speaker 6 (01:50):
So where do my last I know it's cold, I
know it's cold over there, and now for you, Mitch,
but we got that fire takes this morning.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
It is time for the lead block. But we start
with the same place we started yesterday. Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
They are in action right down the road from us
here in California.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Our friend Jane Slater, they let her out of Texas.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
She caught up with Michaeh Parsons and Trayvon Diggs who
are looking for new contracts.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Things are not going the way they hoped.
Speaker 7 (02:20):
Both Michael Parsons and Treyvon Digs in attendance for day
one of practice Tuesday here at training camp. Remember it
is Diggs who was starting off camp on the pup
list following a second injury to that left need. As
for Micah Parsons, he will be doing what head coach
Brian schotten Hybrid describes as quote different versions of participation.
(02:41):
But I did catch up with both of them at
the end of practice Tuesday, who, in their own words,
describe the situation with the front office.
Speaker 8 (02:48):
I was upset yesterday because it's not like I'm not
putting the work in doing everything I was supposed to do.
Of course, they do a great job here, but you know,
I just thought it was for my best interest to
you know, gus where else to rehab for my off season.
But unfortunate, you know, by at the end of the day,
hopefully I'll make it back.
Speaker 7 (03:08):
Where are you in your reheab process.
Speaker 8 (03:10):
I feel real good.
Speaker 9 (03:12):
I'm doing everything so I'm supposed to do.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
I feel real good.
Speaker 8 (03:15):
I'm ahead of schedule, so yeah, I feel good.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Micah. Good to see you out here.
Speaker 7 (03:20):
Why was it a choice for you to be I
would are you a holding at this point or are
you just being mindful of your body?
Speaker 10 (03:26):
Just being mindful obviously, just want to get the body
going the right way, the way I wanted to. But
you know, obviously with d log going, like I said,
I just felt like it was my turn, my turn
and lead, and it's hard to do that from the crib.
So I want to be here with the guys, show
them that I care. I want to be here one championship.
So that's why I'm here.
Speaker 7 (03:43):
You know, I know you and Jerry have a pretty
close relationship, and I know you have respect for each other.
But stuff gets said in the media. Have you had
a conversation with him after yesterday's presser?
Speaker 10 (03:53):
No, but I'm I'm gonna talk to him. You know,
I just thought as a whole, like you know, everyone's
situation is differently, you know what.
Speaker 11 (04:00):
I mean.
Speaker 10 (04:03):
At the end of the day, Like, I'm here for
my teammates. You know, I'm not here to please.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
Another grown man.
Speaker 9 (04:08):
I'm here for them, you know.
Speaker 10 (04:09):
I want to be here with Trey watching rehab, watching
me on the field, watch his growth. I want to
be here battle with Charren. Still, like I'm here for
these guys. I'm not here for him, you know. So
I think, you know, I think in the day, he's
on the field with us. You know, we're on the
field playing the games and things like that. So I'm
gonna just control my teammates, keep boosting it and uh,
you know, we're just gonna keep playing together. If they
(04:30):
don't want me here, they don't want me here, I'll
go about my business.
Speaker 9 (04:33):
I understand the nature of the business.
Speaker 10 (04:35):
Or I said, as long as I'm hearing it under contract,
I'm gonna do what I have to do to perform
at the highest level. But if this is, then this
is then. You know, there's the same way to Jones,
Jay Jones and Stephen Jones and ever Jay Jones take
care of their family. It's the same way I need
to take care of my family, you know. I mean,
I got my own three kids of my own, so
we all need to take care of our own family
at the end of the day.
Speaker 7 (04:56):
Making the situation unique is Michah Parson's willingness to talk
about the situation. Typically they leave that to their agents,
but as MIKEA described, his agent has reached out to
the front office, just hasn't heard back from them yet.
But perhaps it's his willingness to get involved in these
contract negotiations that leads at least to an offer to
move dialogue quick refresher two seasons ago. Dak Prescott, the quarterback,
(05:17):
he was looking for his extension. He didn't get his
till September tenth. As for Ceedee Lamb, he was a
true camp pulled out, but he ended up getting his
August twenty seventh.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
A really interesting assessment there by those guys because you
can clearly see their frustration, and yet you can see
it because they are there. They are showing up. They
want to be there for their teammates. When you listen
to that, and we'll start with you, Mantai, what's your
reaction to what Parsons and Diggs had to say?
Speaker 5 (05:49):
Great job, Great job, guys.
Speaker 6 (05:50):
There's the reason why in this situation, I don't think
his representatives and his agents need to.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Do the talking.
Speaker 6 (05:57):
I watched the entire I think it was a seventeen
minute interview with the both of them, and to hear
how eloquent they did it, to hear how mature he
did it, the understanding that this is a business like
there was even a level of understanding from the management standpoint.
He's like, hey, I know they have to do what
(06:17):
they have to do, but then also understanding that he
as an athlete, he as his own quote unquote boss
has to do what's best for him and for his
kids and for his family. So I couldn't be happier
if I was Michael Parsons's parents, if.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
I was anybody that was affiliated with.
Speaker 6 (06:34):
Michael Parsons on how he handled it, how he handled
that interview, and how he's been handling this situation. He
doesn't have to be there, but he is there, and
he chooses to be there. He's there because he wants
to be the leader of his team. He's there because
he wants to be an example for his teammates. So
my reaction to that is, if you are in a
contract negotiation and you want an example about what it
(06:56):
means to be a leader, what it means to be mature,
what it means to be a wise businessman, what it
means to articulate something so eloquently, just watch Michael Parsons
and now he has handled this entire situation, specifically this interview,
and you have a great example of that through Michael.
Speaker 9 (07:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (07:10):
Man, So I think it's actually brilliant when you look
at Michael Parsons and how he's handling this whole situation,
it just shows his maturity.
Speaker 9 (07:17):
Right, We see.
Speaker 12 (07:18):
Across the league all the time, guys that are holding
up for deals, guys that want more money, Guys that
are trying to say that I need a new bag,
and they don't show up.
Speaker 9 (07:26):
He's showing the maturity.
Speaker 12 (07:27):
He's showing that he wants to be a leader of
the Dallas defense of.
Speaker 9 (07:30):
The Dallas team.
Speaker 12 (07:31):
And look, point blank, period, there's an elephant in the room,
and he's addressing it right. And I think the fact
that his agent has reached out and he hasn't heard
anything back, and Mike has going on his own to
create his own narrative to speak to the media, that's
the best way to get his message out there. He's
doing it respectfully, he's doing it mature, and he's showing
that he's grown as not only a player, but as
a person. And if anybody knows who his agent is,
(07:52):
David Mullagetto, he gets his players big boy bags. And
I know for a fact, might not be this week,
it might not be next week, but.
Speaker 9 (07:59):
In due time he will get what he wants.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
Yeah, I think he made his point abundantly clear, very candid.
You can tell the frustrations palpable. It's tangible almost and
how he's feeling about the situation, and rightfully so. He's
a remarkable football player, transcending football player, a football player
that changes game plans for offense. And this is something
that's hard to fathohim as a fan, but you put
(08:25):
that aside, he has handled it beautifully and he answered
in a very poignant way that this is how he feels,
and this is what he expects to be owed. And
the nice thing is we've seen in the past, like
you guys pointed out, in a few weeks, we might
be seeing this come to a head. That being said,
I can only imagine his frustration frustration rather as an
(08:46):
all time high. But kudos to him for being with
his teammates at a time where he probably is less
than inclined to be in that building.
Speaker 6 (08:55):
Well, Matche, I got a question for you. Can we
pull up that last picture please? This is something that
side is a little concerning. Okay, If I'm Jerry Jones
and I'm Brian Schawnheim around I'm a first year head
coach for the Dallas Cowboys, and I see my two
stars surrounded by a whole bunch of cameras in the
middle of training camp.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
I mean Mitch, you tell me.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
You've been with a bunch of quarterbacks. What would it
look like for you if if you and Josh Allen,
Let's say one of you were in a contract dispute
and you're in the middle of training camp, and everybody
kind of knows that dispute, and you and Josh Allen
are over there, whether it's you trying to defend Josh
Allen or vice versa, how do you think that affects
the locker room? How do you think that affects the
relationship between player and management? Because I could tell you
(09:36):
from my point of view, if there were the two
dogs of my team that were there and you see
all the attension they're getting, it doesn't bode well for
me as a player that I see the leader the
leaders of my team doing that. If there's some questions
and conversations that are being had in that locker room,
how's this thing being run?
Speaker 5 (09:53):
Would you?
Speaker 6 (09:54):
How would you assess that situation if you were a
player in that situation.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Well, thank goodness, As an offensive lineman, we're not really
negotiating that much that hard, But I'm seeing that happened
in my locker room. It is somewhat concerning that being said,
it kind of falls into the leadership of that locker room. Unfortunately,
these are two very vocal leaders, and they also lead
by example, and the way they play that being said,
(10:19):
it'd be somewhat distracting. At the same time, you know,
the NFL pal these things happen. The unfortunate thing is
they're in Dallas, which is a heavy media market, a
lot of attentions coming to this, but it's something that
you'd have to mitigate in the locker room as best
as possible and then just try to go about your business.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Arianta, I'd go, actually the reverse of that, because you said,
you know, how do is this you mentioned Brian Schottenheimer.
I look at that picture that you just put up
of those two guys talking to the media, and yes,
you'd prefer that they don't have all the media around them,
and this is about a contract dispute or trying to
get the contract done. But I look at that picture
and go, if I'm shoddy and I'm not speaking from
I'm like, hey, they're here, like these guys are here,
Like what an example?
Speaker 9 (10:55):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
I look at that as the reverse, and I think
these coaches and look, players know it's a business. Coaches
know it's a business. You know, if Schottenheimer could pay themself,
he'd probably pay himself, right like he wants to get
the deal done. But I look at that completely in
the reverse as a positive of these guys are there.
They could handle this a lot differently than they are.
And to the point that we heard Jane bring up
(11:16):
that CD held out he got that deal done earlier,
we're all applauding the fact the way they handled it.
I love it just because I think the honesty you saw,
the frustration coupled with the fact that they clearly want
to be here and do the right thing. I love
that it didn't go through an agent. I love that
it didn't go through social media. I mean, they were
clearly there answering questions and it wasn't just with Jane,
(11:37):
So I mean, I can't imagine how long when you
saw that other group of media, how many questions were
fired at those guys.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
I love that they did it together.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Hey, you know what, because how many times, and as
a reporter on that side of the business, it's a
lot of it's difficult sometimes when you're in those awkward
situations the players are in these awkward situations with management.
They don't want to talk these guys right out of
the gate, Hey, let's address it, get.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Everyone around here. And then the fact that they did
it together. I love that.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I would ask you, Jalil, on the reverse of that,
is there a scenario where Micah's point is hammered home
if he's not there because he is such a leader.
Speaker 12 (12:11):
I don't think so, because I've seen this happen with
a former teammate of mine, Durren James, who's represented by
the same agent as Micah and Derwin, showed up the
training camp. He showed his commitment. He showed that he
wanted to be a leader. He showed that yes, he
wants a new deal. But at the same time, he's
ball first, he's all in. And that's what Michael Parsons
is shown. He's showing that he's ball first. He's showing
that he's all in. And at the end of the day,
(12:33):
we keep saying that it's a business and man, till
you mentioned that picture cameras all around them, it's Dallas.
Speaker 9 (12:37):
This is what it is.
Speaker 12 (12:38):
It's a controlled circus. When the media comes around, that's
what they thrive on. They thrive on the glitz. They
thrive on the glam, they thrive on just being in
the public eye. And it's not for bad reason. Like
you said, they're both present. They're both there. They could
be at home, they could be on Instagram, they could
be tweeting, but they're in the present and they're there
with their teammates and they're battling it out.
Speaker 6 (12:57):
I think this is a great, a great lesson for
all athletes, especially in today's age. Control your narrative, narrative
and understand at the same point, understand that there's also responsibility.
But what you're say and what you tweet, what you write,
whatever it is. Michael Parsons has done this the right way.
He's done it in a professional way. He's done it
(13:19):
in a way that I think that if you are
an agent, if you are a team owner, whatever it is,
that you can point to number eleven and say, you
see how he's handled this situation.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
Do it like Michael.
Speaker 6 (13:28):
So I applaud Michael Parsons on how he's handled this
whole situation. I think is a great example for a
lot of players.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Yeah, and not letting somebody else talk for them. I mean,
these words are coming directly from these guys. It really
was a masterclass in handling a situation like that. Well,
football is officially back, all thirty two teams reporting to
training camp this week, and NFL Network is going to
be there to cover it all. Be sure to tune
in Get Back Together weekend for twelve hours of live
coverage from training camps around the league. It's all going
(13:55):
to get underway nine am Eastern only on NFL Network.
Coming up on GMFB. Tyreek Hill spoke to the media yesterday.
He cawled out one member in particular, it's one of
our own cam woolf get.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
In here, fire up your zoom cam. We're gonna have
to ask you some questions about this one.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Plus Sarah, it's Wednesday, and you know what day it means.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
That means it's whiteboard Wednesdays. We have a first time
player and mister Juliue, why.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Are we why there anymore?
Speaker 6 (14:26):
Since sweating right now we're about to find out is
GMFB oh no day Wednesday?
Speaker 5 (14:31):
Let's go?
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Sorry?
Speaker 13 (14:32):
What good Mortall?
Speaker 3 (14:44):
It is time for going for two.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
We are going to start in Chicago where a new
Bear's head coach Ben Johnson. Let us know what his
expectations are.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
For his quarterback, Caleb Williams. Take a listen.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
You certainly have goals that we strive for. Uh, you know,
I won't even it's not a secret.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
I told him.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
I I would love for him on the and to
complete seventy percent of his balls. So you would like
to think over the course of practice that we're completing
seventy percent or more. That's hard to just magically arise
in the game. So it's a lofty goal, but it's
one that we're going to strive for, and so because
of that, we're going to use that as our benchmark
and kind of work from there.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Okay, some lofty expectations.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
You would expect that he would have those of his quarterback.
Speaker 9 (15:27):
Though.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
What do you make of what Ben Johnson wants out
of Caleb Williams heading into their first season together?
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Manti Well, I.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
Thought it was interesting.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
I thought it was interesting that he made that goal
understanding what Caleb Williams went through in his rookie year,
the amount of pressure that he experienced, the sacks, being
the most sacked quarterback in the NFL, and I thought
there had to be a reprogramming of Caleb Williams. For
Ben Johnson, what I mean by the reprogramming is sometimes
where you're receiving a lot of heat and a lot
(15:57):
of pressure, you get into these situations that you see
where you feel like you have to add lib that
you have to run around and try to escape pressure
when sometimes you know this jillil, sometimes the best play
is throw that thing out of bounds. Sometimes the best
play on first down in ten, when you have an
unblocked rusher coming at you, it's to make sure that
we get into second down in ten and not second
(16:17):
down in seventeen. So I thought it was interesting that
he made it that goal. But when I look at
Jared Goff and what Ben Johnson did with Jared Goff,
Jared Goff last year had a little bit over seventy
two percent completion rate. He threw for over forty four
hundred yards and it equated to a lot of wins.
So if I'm thinking like Ben Johnson and why this
(16:39):
is a goal, why this is something that he hopes
for Caleb Williams to attain, It's simple math. If you
do at least seventy percent completion rate, it's going to
lead to a lot of receptions and touchdowns and a
lot of yards and it's going to equate to a
lot of wins. So I think that goes back to
the reprogramming of Caleb to help him to be efficient,
(16:59):
to help keep that offense Jalil kind of on mark
with the down and distance.
Speaker 12 (17:04):
I think the goal is really attainable. The seventy percent
passing graded. I think he can really get there. But
I think what he has to do is he has
to be accustomed to just taking the checkdown. Coach would
always say, we played a good dB. Coach says, not
every quarterback in the NFL can go for four quarters
and check the ball down. If you force a quarterback
to check the ball down, they're gonna get greedy. They're
(17:24):
gonna get greedy, and then they're gonna go for the shot,
and that's when you make them pay. With Caleb william
he has such a big upside on this athletic ability
and what he did at USC and running around and
making plays happen and looking like a video game out there.
Speaker 9 (17:36):
That he tried to do that last year with the
pressure that he was under, and he doesn't need to
do that.
Speaker 12 (17:40):
Sometimes I'm related related to baseball, you go with your singles,
you go with your doubles.
Speaker 9 (17:44):
You're not always going for the home run. And if
you go for your singles and you go for your doubles.
Speaker 12 (17:47):
You're gonna get You're gonna get a constant hit.
Speaker 9 (17:49):
And then soon the home runs will be there. I
think if.
Speaker 12 (17:51):
Caleb william does that, takes what the defense gives him.
That's the biggest thing for him, going from your one
year two take what the defense gives you, and then
when a big playability is there, then you take your shot.
If he does that, I think that goal is really attainable.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
Just get on base, yes, sir, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
It's interesting with this whole completion percentage thing from Ben Johnson.
For me, he was already pretty good in the Caleb
Williams last year sixty two percent. I mean that got
midway through the QB pack. That being said, like you
guys were alluding to, what is that in the grand
scheme of things. That's taking ownership of the offensive game plan,
(18:27):
that's understanding what's being asked of you and taking checkdowns protections.
He was sacked. Manti said, I think sixty eight times.
So all of that encompassing that completion percentage is going
to get them wins and get Caleb Williams taking that
next step in that second year as a professional.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Well, and there's obviously Mitch you know this as well
as anybody having played center for a decade in this league.
There's a learning curve, right, There was a learning curve
last year for Caleb Williams coming into the league.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
How does that learning curve change?
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Because everyone says the biggest growth is year one to
year two. How does that change though, when your coach
changes for him?
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Yeah, well that's a great question for me. Your rookie years,
more than anything, a humbling experience. You learn so much
through the trial by fire. You learn so much through
just kind of getting your tail whipped and picking yourself
back up and learning. I think having that pass experience,
which was the twenty twenty four season for Caleb Williams,
(19:28):
coming in with an offensive coordinator and offensive mind in
your head, coach Ben Johnson, I think you're going to
see that natural progression not only as a confident young
man who's played seventeen games last year, but as a
man who knows that the guy that they brought in
is perfectly fit and molded for him because Ben Johnson's
past as an offensive coordinator is tailoring the offense to
(19:50):
the people that they have and what they have in
Caleb Williams is a guy who can, of course toss
the ball, but can use his legs too. So I
think to your point, we're going to see a much
more improved, much more confident, poised quarterback and Caleb Williams
this year.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
All right, second topic here, the last time, let me
give you some context on this because in the makeup
room this morning there was a big discussion about music
in what you listened to. Let me have you out here, guys,
the last time the Dolphins won a playoff game, the
number one song in the country was Independent Women by
Destiny's Child. There you go, Dolphins fans are aware that
that was twenty five years ago. Tyreek Hill is working
(20:27):
towards delivering his best self for this team this year.
Speaker 14 (20:32):
This whole entire offseason, I've been busting my tailor, me
and my dad. I told my dad, I said, I
want to see what it looks like whenever I focus
just old football and I just focus on myself and family.
You know what I'm saying, Because I feel like, I
really haven't been given the best version of me, of
Tyreek my whole entire career.
Speaker 9 (20:52):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 14 (20:52):
I've always been trying to be here, be there. But
me being able to slow down a little bit, train
and bust my tail for myself and then also for
this community and this team.
Speaker 9 (21:02):
I feel like it'll be worth it.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Okay, So I asked you guys this the key to
the Dolphins' success this season will be what Mantai.
Speaker 6 (21:10):
Well will be his quarterback. It's going to be a
healthy Tool. And if you don't understand the impact that
this guy has had, just look at the stats. I
think we have a graphic of the difference between the
twenty twenty three Dolphins when Tool was healthy versus the
twenty twenty four Dolphins when he wasn't healthy. The offense
just looks different. Tyreek Hill, that Von Chan Waddle, they
(21:31):
all look different. The production looks different. Just look at
this offense with or without Tool. Look at the points
per game, Look at the third down percentage. I get
almost doubles, like this is the difference that Number one
makes when he's on the football field. And for Toul's numbers,
points per game second in the NFL total yards per game,
first pass yards, first past touchdowns tied for fifth, passer
(21:54):
rating fifth.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
That's a healthy tool.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
So when you want to see the Mike McDaniel and
the Miami Dolphins look as electric as it has two
years ago, like last year was a little difficult for him,
number one has to be healthy. Number one has to
be throwing the ball. Number one has to do the
no look passes. All of those things happen when number
one is in the game. So if they want to
have some success this year in twenty twenty five, it's
(22:18):
going to start with a healthy tool.
Speaker 12 (22:19):
Tumble by Law, Yeah, I agree with you. Mantie Tua
has to stay healthy. When you watch this Dolphins offense,
it's based on so much of timing. It's based on
spacing a lot of motion, getting the ball into.
Speaker 9 (22:30):
Your player's hands very quickly.
Speaker 12 (22:32):
And then they send those track stars at four by four,
that four by one hundred team that they have as
a wide receiver roster down the field and they take
the top off on the defense. But the biggest thing
with that is, you know, like got no man tie.
When you're practicing, you only to get so many reps
and a lot of times the number one quarterback takes
all the reps number two quarterback, there's not enough time
in practice for you to get that rhythm, to get
that chemistry down with that receiver, corps and that offense
(22:54):
in the same language that you're speaking with the offensive line.
So him being on that field is so so pivotal
for that offense this year for them to be successful.
Speaker 9 (23:02):
And Tyreek Hill saying that he needs to be.
Speaker 12 (23:05):
One accord with himself off the field on the field
will bring that much more success.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Yeah, I think to Manti and Julil's point, this is
a quarterback driven league. Let's call a spade a spade.
The health of that is paramount. I'm going to go
a different direction, though. I'm going to go with something
that Manti Julie would also test to, which is locker
room leadership. You have guys that you have left the
building that I think were those vocal leaders in regards
(23:30):
to to Ron Armstead, Kalais Campbell. You have guys like
Zach Siler, who I think needs to step up in
a big way. You bring in a guy like Minka Fitzpatrick.
He's a pride, you know, tried and true, proven, unbelievable
football player and a voice in the locker room. We
heard some tumultuous things coming from that organization last year
in regards to their leadership. None of that matters if
(23:53):
you have the guys in that locker room taking onus,
taking charge of their team and of themselves to go
out there and perform and honestly kind of go through
the ebbs and flows. It's every you go through through
every season. If you can do that and do it
and then a good demeanor, and it'll be a good
time and it'll be a good place to play football
(24:13):
in Miami.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Well, for a while, I think people have thought this
is the Dolphins team, right when you mentioned the four
x one hundred team they have as receivers down there
that they've been knocking on the door, and it's like, oh,
watch out Buffalo and watch out.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
This division is like starting to turn.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
And I'm just curious your sense of what the pressure
is like in Miami to produce.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
And we talked about how long it's.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Been since they won a playoff game, and it felt
like when they started signing these guys and you saw
to a start to ascend that this was the team
like they were going to make a run and it
just really hasn't worked out in the last couple of years.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
I mean, injuries obviously play.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
A role, and that things have fallen apart at different
times in Miami for different reasons. Julia, what do you
think is they get ready to start this season? We
talk so much about the pressure on the cabin. What's
the pressure on this Miami team.
Speaker 9 (24:56):
There's obviously pressure.
Speaker 12 (24:57):
It's the NFL, right and it's everyone's zero and zero
right now. But the biggest pressure I would say would
be on coach Mike mcdannel. Yeah, right, and people might
not want to see it. And down there in the
three or five it gets hot. Well, his seat is
hot right now. And it just is what it is,
and it's what have you done for me lately?
Speaker 9 (25:13):
Business?
Speaker 12 (25:13):
And it's based off production, and the Dolphins have not
done what they were supposed to do with the talent
that he's brought in so far. Obviously you just mentioned,
Sarah that nji's have been a big part of it.
Speaker 9 (25:22):
But at the end of the day, nobody cares. Nobody
cares about the excuses.
Speaker 12 (25:25):
They want production and they want to see things be
done like making the playoffs year and the year out,
and they have not been able to do.
Speaker 6 (25:31):
That well, you know, kind of building off of Mitch's
point about the ebbs and flows of the season, I
think that's one thing that they need to be able
to handle. And I agree wholeheartedly with what Mitch said,
because if you remember, when the Miami Dolphins are hot, boy,
they're hot. It's it. It's a beautiful thing to watch
on television. But then when they're cold, they're extremely cold.
(25:53):
So they always live in these extremes over there in Miami.
And so if they're able to just stay even keeled
throughout the whole entire season, which is a difficult thing
to do with the different highs and lows, injuries, whatever
you want to whatever you want to bring up in
regards to a season, if they can stay even keeled
through all through all of it, I think they'll be
(26:13):
in a better position set up for success.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Scoring forward with the guys that they have on that roster.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
I want to go back to Tyreek Hill because he
was talking about wanting to be the best version of himself,
and I think that Tyreek thinks that one of our
own here at NFL Network is turning into the best
version of himself, at least physically, because if you listen
to Tyreek Hill's press conference, he's a big fan of
NFL Networks. Cam Wolfe's workout let's contents into this one.
Speaker 14 (26:42):
Caim, I've been watching the workout videos.
Speaker 9 (26:44):
You look good, bro, cat you bro, I didn't even
know you was in here. I'll tell you, like, ask
him a question. I'm like, oh no, he big time,
not sitting in the back, low key, keep doing anything.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
Maybe Okay, we're gonna have to break this down. Cam
wolf get into the conversation. You're sitting in that press
ference room and Tyreek Hill is up at the podium.
What's your reaction when you hear him start talking about
your workout contact?
Speaker 3 (27:11):
How about that? Are you about to suit up for
the Dolphins here?
Speaker 5 (27:14):
I have no plays left, Sarah.
Speaker 11 (27:15):
I promise you my cardio doesn't look anything like my
bitch press. I was surprised I wasn't asking him a question.
I post a lot of my gen content for the
last six months from my accountability to make sure I'll
get off my button actually do it. And you know
they always tell you train like no one's watching. I
guess I need to train now. Like Tyreek Hills watching now,
(27:37):
I'm like worried in my form, right, you know, is
he judging me on these different things? But I think
it's cool because so many different people can get into
fitness and change their life.
Speaker 5 (27:45):
And it's changed my health immensely.
Speaker 11 (27:48):
So I appreciate the shout out from Tyreek, and you know,
hopefully as I get through training camp, I don't eat
too many steaks and get off my fitness plan.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Can you ain't slick? Bro? You ain't slick? Can we
go back to that box job? To that box job? Caw,
you ain't slick putting? Make sure they know it's a
thirty inch box.
Speaker 6 (28:06):
That's that's something that we look at it thirty.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
In bucks plus some plusome man, you look great, Bro.
Speaker 6 (28:14):
I appreciate my game watching. Look at that reverse back pedals.
Some of that needs overte stuff. Ain't no need to
get some assistant pull ups? Can we just do it
by ourselves? That's what I'm talking about. Cam Man, We
got to bring him in. Cam Thant job, bro, appreciate
j'all that job appreciate joll.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
Look.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Training camp starts, there's always the talk about who came
in looking. Really we had no idea that the talk
was going to be about Cam Wolf. Thanks to Tyreek Hill, Cam.
We'll see you on the trail for Back Together weekend.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
Back here on Good Morning Football.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Terry McLaurin is looking for a contract extension and was
a no show at camp, so the team has officially
placed him on the reserve did not report list this morning.
We're going to have much more on this story at
the top of the hour. Well As a member of
the New York Sack Exchange, Marty Lyons gave Jets fans
a reason to cheer his work on the field. Off
(29:08):
the field, The nineteen eighty four NFL Man of the Year,
works even harder to give kids who are facing terminal
illnesses the courage to wish for more.
Speaker 15 (29:17):
I think if I had to choose between what I
did on the field and off the field, it would
be off the field.
Speaker 9 (29:24):
Football for me.
Speaker 13 (29:25):
Was a platform.
Speaker 15 (29:26):
When you have that platform, you find your purpose in life.
We work with terminally ill children. We try to create hope.
When hope doesn't exist, we take their greatest swiss in
life and make it become a reality. Sixty percent of
the kids that we work with will not live to
see the age of eighteen. The Marty Lions Foundation is
(29:49):
going to try to let parents know and they let
kids know that they are important. And to me, that's
the real reward of God saying, Hey, the work that
you're doing has a meaning. You don't have to be rich,
you don't have to be an NFL player. Are we
all in this world to make one another better? We
all have that responsibility. It's just who wants to do it.
(30:15):
Discover your gift first, then the purpose of the life
is to give that gift away.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
What a legacy and what a message.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
You can head over to the NFL Fast Channel for
a special on Friday as we laid up to a
celebration of Walter Payton's birthday, but we're going to air
Legacy of Legends Impact Your Service that is exclusively on
the NFL Fast Channel. Well, coming up, the crew has
their whiteboard ready, grab yours at home.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
If you want to play along.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
What team has us sweating heading into the new season?
Speaker 3 (30:50):
West Wilson.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
I have a feeling this is going to involve you somehow.
Whiteboard Wednesday is coming up next.
Speaker 13 (31:06):
Good football.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
It is time now for a round of Whiteboard Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Mitch, you got your whiteboard out there? You ready yeared
up in New York.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Feel like we've left you out on an island a
little bit. There you go, Yes, okay, perfect, good job.
You already know you know how this works. We need
to set this up a little bit. On Monday, Wes
Wilson joined GMFB. He didn't know when he was in
Mitch's studio that we didn't bother to turn the air
conditioning on for him. So this was him dripping with sweat.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
The entire show. This was commercial breaks.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
At one point I looked over and he just started
turning red and I was like, is he having a
medical emergency out there? No, the emergency was just that
we turned the air off and then we got him
a little baby fan to rectify the situation. So, in
honor of West and what he had to deal with
on that's going to lead us to our first whiteboard Wednesday.
Give us the one team for Wes that is going
(31:57):
to make you sweat it out this season, Mantai, who
is it When we.
Speaker 6 (32:00):
Think about all of those factors that West had to
fight through it and so the team I was thinking about,
it's got to be a place that's hot, and I
talked about New Orleans and training camp yesterday and how
hot that was, so that came to mind with my
answer was a Saints. But then also you understand that
the reason why I was so hot in that office
was because the AC shut off, and the super Dome
(32:21):
is also the place where in twenty thirteen at the.
Speaker 5 (32:24):
Super Bowl the lights shut off. So I got the Saints.
Speaker 6 (32:26):
But if you look at this Saints roster quarterback rooms,
it's gonna make you sweat, man, And there's a there's
a window of opportunity that's kind of closing now that
camp Jordan's at the end of his career. You got
the Mario Davis is at the end of his career.
I've been Kamara has been there for a while, has
a whole bunch of yards. So if I'm a Saints fan,
(32:47):
which I am, I'm sweating.
Speaker 9 (32:48):
A little bit, hear you, man, Chid, But I have
to go with the Raven.
Speaker 12 (32:55):
Why so, I'm a big Lamar Jackson fan, Florida boy
to another Florida boy. I respect his game, obviously multiple
season MVP winner, but every year I'm sitting on the
edge of my seat pulling for this guy to win
a Super Bowl. He gets into the big game and
I'm tired of hearing the Lamar Jackson can't get it
done when it really matters. He's this immaculate player during
(33:16):
the regular season. He's a human highlight roel during the
regular season. Then for some reason he gets to the playoffs.
Speaker 9 (33:23):
And it just doesn't get done.
Speaker 12 (33:25):
So, Lamar Jackson, I need you to cool me off
this season.
Speaker 9 (33:29):
We'll do your thing. O boy.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
Boys, both beautiful answers. I'm gonna go in the NFC North.
I'm gonna go the Vikings, And here's why they're the
kings of the regular season, but when it comes to
the playoffs they always seem to stumble just a little bit.
Now they've made a few additions. They brought a contingency
of offensive lineman over from the Colts. They made a
(33:52):
few additions on defense in Jonathan Allen and the young
man from the San Francisco forty nine ers, and listen,
we don't know what we're gonna see in JJ McCarthy.
He's a young dude. He'll be twenty two years and
four months old when the start of the season, but
he's already had a season in the NFL, so there's
so many questions at that position. We know it's a
quarterback driven league. I just hope that we can see
(34:14):
the same team in the regular season that we do
in the postseason this year and make them have a
push in postseason.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
He's a really interesting conversation obviously, Mitch there because at
the same time, you could they make you sweat because
you don't know.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
What you're going to get.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
But I feel like they're going to get a little
bit of break because he's going through his first season.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Okay, second topic, rock legend.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness, passed away.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
At the age of seventy six.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
So in honor of our man, Ozzie, give me the
guy the NFL player that best personifies a rock star mentality.
Speaker 6 (34:49):
Well, when you are dating one of the biggest pop
stars in the world, I got to say, you got
t swet, you got ta Kelsey, Okay, I got to
go Travis Kelce on this one. You watch how he
his energy, just his celebrations. I remember him doing a
stinky lag when you're and you got to be able
to be a rock star if you're going to shout
(35:10):
out at every Super Bowl parade that.
Speaker 5 (35:13):
You've been at.
Speaker 9 (35:14):
You gotta fight for your rock to a ball.
Speaker 6 (35:20):
So I got Travis Kelce as my rock star player
in the NFL Loo.
Speaker 12 (35:24):
Matchaw I love that one, but I'm going with Stephan Diggs.
When you see Stephan Diggs pull up to the scene,
he looks like he's at the met Gala, looks like
he's at the fashion week. He has that wide receiver,
one diva type personality. If you don't get him the ball,
you will hear about it.
Speaker 9 (35:41):
Oh, by the way, he's dating Cardi B.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
Are they together? They not together?
Speaker 5 (35:45):
We don't know.
Speaker 12 (35:46):
It's a mystery, right Stephan Diggs, he has a swag.
Speaker 9 (35:50):
I think when he's.
Speaker 12 (35:50):
Done playing ball he'll be a model. He's dating a
big time industry musician.
Speaker 9 (35:54):
And Cardi B.
Speaker 12 (35:56):
He is my guy who implifies a rockstar rockstar.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
You boys picked both X teammates of mind can tell
you they are both rock stars that live yes lifestyle.
That being said, I'm going to pick George Kittle. Hmmm
and George listen, it just starts with the hair, dude.
It gets look at him, tongue out, ready to party.
Is he on something? We don't know, We don't want
to know. He's wanted to be He's going to be
(36:24):
electric on the field. He's going to be electric off
the field. His passion for football emulates the passion that
great musicians have for their work. He's a remarkable football
player and I think he personifies a rock star in
today's life.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Well, world, I just want to say something about Travis.
When you started with Travis in the conversation, and I
think what's really cool about him is obviously the attention
on him has grown exponentially. And what I noticed last
season is you know, people are there on the sidelines
and they just want to see him, and he's never
not embraced that and that, And that's even before you
know who he was dating. Like I saw him last
(36:57):
year several times and fans are just clamoring to get
a picture of it. And he is always, whether he's
in a good mood or not, gives people attention. Like
I remember being in Germany with him and there they
fly overnight, you're so warped in off time.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
They come running out to.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Practice on the field out there in Germany and he's like,
let's go. And again, who speaks to what Mantis saying,
but just always that vibe, that action, and I've just
always seen him he plays to what he knows people
want to see. And I don't just mean the plays
on the field. I mean like when you see all
these fans pregame, just always interacts with them, Mitch, and
it's never changed.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
He's never changed to me, is in that aspect.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
Now what you see is what you get with Travis Kelsey.
I've always told people when they ask me, you know,
they're generally curious what Kelsey's like. He's a remarkable person.
He's the greatest teammate you could want. He if you
make a big block or you're down the field, he's
just as liable to hype up an offensive lineman as
he is a guy in the skills position room. He
(37:56):
has relationships with everyone in the locker room. He makes
you feel like you're part of the crew. You have
a bit of him. He's just a beautiful human and
it's been fun to see in the past few years
singing from the sidelines him get the dues that he's owed.
Of course, on the field, he's a remarkable player, but off
the field, he's an exceptional person.
Speaker 2 (38:15):
We did years ago, I was on another network it
was ESPN, and we did these Horseshoe Championships in Tapeka, Kansas.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
I'm talking years and years ago.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Travis Kelce came out joined us on the show at
the drove out to Topeka from Kansas City and it
was like last year or two years ago. I go,
you're never gonna remember this. I start with el and
he goes horseshoe Championships.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
I mean, he just like that.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
That's who he is, which I think is awesome.
Speaker 9 (38:35):
Sarah, are you a swifty?
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Yeah, everyone's a swifty.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Well no, but this isn't about this is Travis and
Travis has never changed and I love that narrative.
Speaker 5 (38:42):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
On this day in twenty ten, the band one direction
was from this is a real musical segment here on GMFB.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
The one band or artist you love unapologetically is who
man Tai unapologetically.
Speaker 6 (38:55):
I am proud to say that this artist right here. Okay,
my wife knows this. I said before I die, I
need to go to this art concert.
Speaker 5 (39:05):
I've actually looked Adele.
Speaker 6 (39:08):
I need to go to an Adele concert, like she's
one of my all time favorite artists, like all I ask.
Like all her albums, it's just one of those things
when you flip on this Adele album, whatever it is,
twenty twenty two, twenty two, twenty four, twenty five, twenty
she could go all day to fifty. I will listen
to every single song. She's just one of those artists
that really resonates with me. And I'm unapologetically a fan.
(39:30):
I unapologetically would admit that before I die, I need
to go to an Adele concert.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
So that's for me. It's Adele.
Speaker 12 (39:35):
I'm unapologetically a rod Wave fan.
Speaker 9 (39:39):
Listen.
Speaker 12 (39:40):
I can recite his work, his songs day in, day out.
Anytime he drops an album, he's.
Speaker 9 (39:45):
At the top of the charts.
Speaker 12 (39:46):
He can he does country, he speaks real life, he
can rap, he can talk about road Wave is my guy.
Speaker 9 (39:54):
Anybody who knows.
Speaker 12 (39:55):
Me knows that when you see Jalil, he's probably listening
to road Wave.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
Gentlemen, Sarah doesn't know about E the BASSA forty water.
So I heard tell Me when to Go, And when
I first heard the opening lyrics, Jesus Christ had dreads,
so shake them. Imagine all the Hebrews going dumb dancing
(40:21):
on top of chariots and turning tight ones and then
ended with Oh, that's the Holy Spirit. It's palpable, it's tangible.
When people ask why I love them, I don't know.
I don't know what it is, but something what I
hear his music, Gardner's emotions and me that are hard
to emulate. So e forty, I love you, Pale. If
you ever need some fellowship, reach out kid Yubby Mitch.
Speaker 5 (40:43):
That that says everything I need to know about you. Brother.
Speaker 6 (40:45):
You are invited to the barbecue, the cookout, Like, how
about this?
Speaker 2 (40:51):
Check out the Jets new locker room two hundred and
thirty square foot three D Jets logo somewhere in that
Asaana with the sound system, a barbershop with refurbished share
I need this Tortico little store, refurbished chairs from the
nineteen fifty apparently ninety two full sized custom lockers.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
Pretty sick though, Guys, what.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
Do you think ventilated should I'm not reading there vid?
What else do they have to take us on the
tour some months?
Speaker 4 (41:17):
And I don't know, I think you need a little
stank in your locker.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
In my own it's not.
Speaker 5 (41:24):
I love you, Mick, Mitch. That's why I love you.
Speaker 9 (41:27):
Look at that look.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
At the sound, and you know, I was wondering, why
don't the steam rooms?
Speaker 3 (41:32):
And so you can't. There's no music in here, and
you have to sit there and be quite.
Speaker 6 (41:35):
You know, some people like your own Sarah, but you can't.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
Do in a steam room. Can you bring us because
it's like, yeah, wet there.
Speaker 5 (41:42):
I don't think I just put it on the ground.
That what you guys see. You guys see us higher
in the steam room, So you want to put it
on ground.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
By the way, here at the studios in Los Angeles,
it'll be like three thirty in the morning. Mantai carries
a speaker on with himself. So he comes to the
makeup room. It's like calm, quiet and there pretty much
and then he comes in with the speaker.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
But it changes the energy.
Speaker 5 (42:01):
It's great.
Speaker 13 (42:03):
I love her, Mitch.
Speaker 3 (42:05):
You have a speaker out there by yourself. I mean
you're just stranded by yourself.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
Yeah, there was no makeup room.
Speaker 9 (42:10):
It was just.
Speaker 4 (42:14):
It was horrifying. But yeah, honestly, the speakers blasty forty
in the sauna.
Speaker 5 (42:19):
That'd be great.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
Nobody powdered your head for you. Nobody does it?
Speaker 4 (42:23):
Does it look like it did?
