Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Good Morning Football.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
That's right, it's GMFB. Everybody welcome in. It's a Wednesday.
Jamie Mansi, Mike g and Kyle Brandt. Great to see everybody.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
As we just.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Mentioned, best team in the NFL. It's a tricky little
conversation to have right now. But if you are somebody
who likes to feel really right about maybe their predictions
or what you thought, it's kind of sneaky gratifying for
you right now because.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
No one's right.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Everyone was a little bit correct in their thoughts about
how things would go because no one is blowing teams.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Out of the water.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Specifically, you may have thought that about the Lions, but
they fell to the Chiefs over the weekend. They dropped
their records to fourn two. And the Lions have some
high end opponents on the horizon. They're head coach Dan
Campbell spoke the media about the Lions margin for error
now more than ever moving forward and take a listen.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Your margin for error is so small, and that's what
I told the team today. I mean that that actually
fires me up, because you do you have to be
on point. You don't, you don't get the luxury of
making a mistake here and makes mistake there against these
type of teams that were getting ready to play. And
when you don't and you do all the little things right,
you learn another way to win. You start getting better
(01:31):
and this is the stuff that really gets you to
where you want to be by the end of the year.
Like that's so, it's exactly what we need. It's going
to be outstanding competition and we'll be better for it.
We will in the long run.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
It will be a metaphor ol Man, old man, look
at us getting all poetic in mid October. We are
sitting right now between week six and seven, and we've
talked about this a little bit. The Lions loss, the
Bills have had a tough couple of weeks, the Eagles
drop from four and oh to four and two quickly,
Ravens are unforeseen, and the Chiefs are twenty fourteen was
(02:05):
the last time that we went into this point of
the season with no one defeated team. So here we go.
It is October fifteenth. I forgot to write the date
on it. October fifteenth. Everyone get their whiteboards out and
your little laminated stick there and rank your five best
teams five four, three two one man time with the
vertical board. Europe.
Speaker 6 (02:23):
First, I'm so glad you said the date, Jamie.
Speaker 7 (02:25):
They said it's October, right, because the one would think
that it was December.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
Number five, I got the Chiefs.
Speaker 7 (02:32):
What was scary about what the Chiefs did this past
week was they played like how they usually play in December,
and it's only October. This week they got Rushie Rice
coming back, who is Patrick Mahone's favorite target. And with
that being said, I have the Chiefs in my top five, Yes,
top five out of thirty two. Now number four. I
like the Seahawks. The Seahawks, I think is one of
the more balanced teams. They cannot only beat you offensively,
(02:55):
but they can beat you defensively and in special teams.
We've seen some of those special teams plays throughout the
season with these kickoff returns, these punt returns for touchdowns.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
The Seahawks are explosive with.
Speaker 7 (03:05):
All three fronts, and they can beat you through the
air and on the ground with Kenneth Walker and Jackson
Smith and Jigba. Now number three, I still got the Lions.
I know they just lost to the Chiefs, but I
don't care. It's one of those things where when this
team loses, it's like they're going to be back. We've
seen what they've been able to do the past few
years with Dan Campbell. That wasn't the standard at which
we've been used to seeing Detroit play. We know the standard.
(03:28):
They've executed that standard. I expect them to rebound after
this past week.
Speaker 6 (03:33):
Now. Number two, I got Tampa.
Speaker 7 (03:36):
I don't think you could look at this anywhere in
the NFL and see a player that's playing at a
higher level than Baker Mayfield. And he's doing it without
not his wide receiver, one wide receiver, two wide receiver,
three his running back. There have been a whole bunch
of injuries around the NFL, but Baker Mayfield continues to impress.
He continues to improvise and do everything he needs to
(03:56):
do to lead his team to victory. And oh, by
the way, Levonte David is still one of the best
linebackers in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (04:01):
Would be Taba. Number one. I got the coach.
Speaker 7 (04:04):
When you have the number one scoring offense in the
NFL and you have the number four scoring defense and
you have a special teams unit that doesn't really punt
a lot, and when they do, they have the most
net yards in the NFL that can beat.
Speaker 6 (04:18):
You left to right.
Speaker 7 (04:18):
You just saw Jonathan Taylor in this play goal left
and then where did Daniel Jones go?
Speaker 4 (04:23):
He goes right.
Speaker 7 (04:23):
But they've chosen that Daniel Jones can keep this ball
and he can still be producted on the ground running
the ball, whether he's a passer, whether he's a runner.
And sometimes Downs is the number one target, sometimes Pierces
the number one target, sometimes Pittman.
Speaker 6 (04:38):
So you can't really put a finger.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
On who they like to target because they can't target anybody,
and I think they target the most guys.
Speaker 6 (04:44):
It seems to be the end zone. So I got
the Indianapolis coach.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
I'm just keeping an eye on the records in the
league as a whole as I look at all of
your lists, and I appreciate how you worked your way
through that and the fact that you landed on the
two best teams on your list had the two best
records in the NFL. We have eleven four win teams
right now in the NFL, four and two or four
one on one they also and that's a good one man.
Ti appreciate that, but I want to get the greater group,
(05:09):
just to make sure we understand the whole population.
Speaker 8 (05:11):
Mike g Euroupe, Yeah, this is going to be a
wild exercise because we're going to have wildly different answers.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
It's going to be incredible.
Speaker 8 (05:16):
I am leaving the Green Bay Packers off of my
top five.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
I was back and forth on that one.
Speaker 8 (05:20):
I just can't get those back to back games a
couple of weeks ago, including that tie to the Cowboys
where they just couldn't cover George Pickens at that point.
So I'm going to write these in because I just refuse.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
To hold that thing up.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
And just like I'm not doing the Waynesboro things.
Speaker 8 (05:32):
I'm going the Seahawks here at number five. Very impressed
with the way that Mike McDonald's starting to forge an
identity with this team, and that was a big thing
coming in was year two with him. They're going to
start to now look like what he wants this team
to be.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
Tough, hard nose, run the football.
Speaker 8 (05:47):
We're talking about a close game against the Buccaneers away
from a five game winning streak for Seattle. So I'm
going Seattle here. I'm going to put Indianapolis right here
at number four. It's stuff that's sort of out of
their control. Like, have they played enough playoff teams for
me to put them higher. They've played four of the
first six at home. I want to start seeing some
miss tests along the way, so I'm gonna put them
right there. I'm gonna put the Detroit Lions here at
(06:08):
number three. They still are playing the kind of football
that you don't want to see come into your building.
Even though they didn't do it against the Chiefs the
other night, we saw them do it against the Baltimore
Ravens a couple of weeks ago when the Ravens were
still healthy. So I'm still putting Detroit right there. Speaking
of the Chiefs, Rushie Rice is coming back. I think
it's going to make a huge difference. And this is
a team that has really played well of late. I
(06:28):
think they're starting to click offensively. I think they are
starting to get there.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
And number one, who got Mike?
Speaker 8 (06:33):
I'm going with the Tampa Bay back at number one
here in this market. Joe Benigno is the big Jet fan,
the voice of the Jet fan, and the former wfan guy.
He pops on occasionally and I heard him the other
day and he said, Todd Balls.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
I understand what it was about.
Speaker 8 (06:50):
It was more of like a I can't believe a
Jets coach is now being successful elsewhere. And he said,
you know, Todd Bowles fell into Baker Mayfield. I'm sorry
what Bruce arians fell into Tom Brady. Todd Bowles didn't
fall into big Ker Mayfield.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Back when they signed Baker.
Speaker 8 (07:06):
Mayfield, I went back and just checked to see what
was happening. They said he was signing for one year,
four million dollars to compete with Judd Wolford and Kyle Trask.
Let's not forget that it wasn't exactly MVP level Baker
Mayfield at the time. And Todd Bowles has done a
great job hiring offensive coordinators to fit with Baker Mayfield,
coordinators who are now head coaches, and has helped formulate
(07:28):
this whole thing around him and the identity of Baker Mayfield.
They are banged up, they are still producing.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
I love what the Bucks are doing right now.
Speaker 6 (07:35):
Go ahead, Tubbles.
Speaker 9 (07:36):
I have vivid memories of Sarah Waalsh doing many Kyle
Trask reports and like they were dead serious.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
They're like Kyle Trask was going to be our guy.
Speaker 9 (07:44):
And then Baker Mayfield came up and he looks like
the best player in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
All right, so.
Speaker 9 (07:48):
Easy transition, by the way, Mike, I like the style
of not the paper, just write it quickly between each
one and there's not the mess. Guess why I have
it five. This is the perfect segue. I have the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers of five.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
Here we go.
Speaker 9 (08:00):
We're talking about right now, week seven. Okay, very good
to very good record, very good quarterback.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
All their guys are heard.
Speaker 9 (08:07):
It feels like they're all herd, and I know they're
coming back and they're training this way. The fact that
they lost the guy who's gonna win Rookie of the Year,
the fact that god win again and Evans have been
banged up in Bucky Like, I think they're a top
five team right now. Remember fourteen teams make the playoffs.
It's not an insult that you're five or four. For
the love of God, number four, I have these guys.
If you can read this, I have the Rams at four.
(08:29):
I will always stick by the Rams. The Rams beat
the Colts. That does matter, and it's gonna matter on
this list as well. I went back and forth. Matti,
I know you had Seattle and Mike had Seattle.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
I like both those teams in the West.
Speaker 9 (08:41):
I would like San Francisco if they weren't a hospital ward.
I like the Rams at number four, number three, only
this team could get absolutely get their clock clean and
still be a top three team in the league. I
have the Lions. I know that was an ugly game.
I know Week one was an ugly game. They've had
two ugly games, and I still like them that much
because they're pretty.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Games are beautiful.
Speaker 9 (09:00):
To go back to the Wayne's World Top ten list,
They're Klaudia Schiffer, Abraham Lincoln.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
They're just they're rem brands.
Speaker 9 (09:06):
They look really good, and I think their ceiling is
a high as any team in the league. Ing here
we go, Yes, definitely swing number two. I got a
five hundred team. If there's the second best team in
the league, I have the Chiefs. That display over Detroit
was like, oh crap, right, Oh no, no.
Speaker 10 (09:25):
They can't keep getting away with this. Yeah they can
now they can.
Speaker 9 (09:29):
Are you any if there's any doubt right now that
the Chiefs are gonna.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
Have at least one home playoff game?
Speaker 9 (09:33):
After you watch what they did, and all you already
made the point about Rashi Rice. It's just like they
looked very good the other night and they look very familiar.
And then number one, I'll just do it. I would
love to shock everybody and leave.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Them off the list, but I'm going with the Coats
as the number.
Speaker 9 (09:46):
One team right now in this moment. I know they
haven't played great competition. When they played the bad teams,
they destroy the bad teams.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
They did beat Denver. They blew it against the Rams.
Speaker 9 (09:59):
The guy doesn't drop the ball before the goal line.
I think the NFL's Colts win that game. They have
the best points of French in the league by far.
It means they're blowing teams out. They've had the best
running back in the league. I think they may already
have the best tight end in the league in a
rookie who's played just a handful of games in Tyler Warren.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Daniel Jones looks like he did that one year.
Speaker 9 (10:16):
When they want a road playoff game, Enner Brian dablem,
the defense is great. I know it's there. It's the yeah,
but the yeah. But they played the Chargers next. We
will have a look. The Chargers are a very good team.
We probably expect to be in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
When do you believe if not?
Speaker 9 (10:30):
Now they can only play who's on their schedule.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Just what is the.
Speaker 9 (10:33):
Week where if they beat them, then we'll believe. This
is not one in one anymore, it's not two in one.
It's all what or not?
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Want a cute little story with Danielones.
Speaker 9 (10:40):
They are a very good team who are smashing people
on the schedule in most weeks. And I have the
Colts right now, as it says right there, week seven
is the best team in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
All right, everybody hold up your boards. We can get
a nice little fancy screen ground on October fifteenth. That's
what it looks like.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
All right, this is cool.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Just a refresher exercise on how we do top five
lists on GMFB, or at least this is a rule
that Kyle lives by. Everybody puts their list up, and
then we have to acknowledge those left off lists. For example,
I did a top five foot injuries list a couple
weeks ago, and Kyle was like, where's gout? Like we
always have to talk about going on there?
Speaker 2 (11:13):
You guys have quite.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
The list of four win teams that you all ignored.
I got that on my board right here. There is
no Denver, there is no Buffalo, no Jacksonville, Chargers, New England,
forty nine Ers, Philly, Pittsburgh. All those four win teams
the three of you do not have in your top five.
So can anyone speak up for the fact that these
(11:36):
guys are not top five powerful enough for you to
be on your list At four wins? You have a
five hundred team, You've got a team that's not looked.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Great over last couple of leeks. You have a super defending.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Champion on this list, and none of you in fifteen
slots didn't put these teams on RYKB.
Speaker 9 (11:53):
I love the list because this is the statement about
this year in the NFL, is.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
That I don't know who it's going to be.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
It's could be wild.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
I'm looking at a lot of teams right there that
are really good teams. Now.
Speaker 9 (12:02):
Buffalo looks terrible right now, you know, I think even
Bills fans, I don't know if they have them in
the top five. Maybe they'll get there, but not now.
Philadelphia does not look good right now at all. They
don't look like a top five. We can just take
those off and then we have another guys, you can
join me here. The rest of them are this conversation
of teams that are kind of knocking in the door,
knocking on the door, like New England and Denver with
(12:23):
young quarterbacks, or are there teams that maybe we just
don't trust yet, And I'll put Jacksonville there.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Yes, they did beat the Chiefs. It was great, and.
Speaker 9 (12:30):
Then they follow it up with kind of a disappointing loss.
So we only get five spots. Pittsburgh's an interesting one,
too many, Like take your pick, what do you think?
Speaker 7 (12:39):
Well, when I look at Pittsburgh, I'm looking at a
team that that's the team that I flirted with a
little bit right, their trajectory is going to higher, Whereas
if you look at the Bills, it seems like they
hit a stall. Philadelphia doesn't look to look too good
to kb's point. But then you got you've got teams
like San Francisco where they just lost Fred like that,
(13:00):
losing your general in the middle of that defense with
a team that already has so many injuries that that's hard.
Speaker 6 (13:04):
The Chargers they.
Speaker 7 (13:06):
Have no old line right now, which is very concerning
for me to keep Justin Herbert healthy. And safe, and
they don't have both in the runnebacks, so that's also difficult.
Speaker 6 (13:15):
The guys that I actually did.
Speaker 7 (13:16):
Flirt with was Denver and New England. I really like
how New England is playing, especially, but Denver I think
there are some concerns with how they're playing offensively.
Speaker 6 (13:25):
Defensively, there's like, oh.
Speaker 7 (13:26):
My gosh, it's they're the best defense in the NFL.
But offensively, I think there's still some hurdles for them
to kind of jump over you like any thoughts.
Speaker 8 (13:35):
Two things I struggle with with this list, One injuries
and two recency bias. I didn't want to be like, wow,
this thing happened on Sunday and it kind of impacted me.
Don't forget what happened two weeks ago. It's a marathon,
not a sprint.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Types up. The other thing is injuries.
Speaker 8 (13:49):
When you look at San Francisco, Nick Bosa and Fred
Warner are not coming back, you may say my number
one team here, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is ravage at
the receiver position. Although Sterling Shepard may be listening to
us because he's coming up. They're totally fine at the
receiver position.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
Sterling, everything's great.
Speaker 8 (14:04):
What By the way, the top five at five is
a reference to you. I'm struggling at eight am right now.
It's five am out on the West Coast way to
go out there. So yeah, that's what I struggle with there,
and that's why I left some of them.
Speaker 9 (14:13):
I want to shout out to Philadelphia, one of these
teams are like, hey, they would have been number one
on this In this list, Philadelphia has beaten two of
the teams on my list.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
They have beaten Kansas City, they have beaten.
Speaker 9 (14:26):
The Rams and Eagles Fans like, what the hell, guys,
you just lost by three scores to the Giants, Like
I have to go with what I just saw, Like
you did not compete in the second half of that
game to a rookie quarterback and in andandrothal rookie running back.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 9 (14:40):
Maybe you're the eighth team or the ninth You're not
in the top five right now.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
No, Kyle, the.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Most entertaining thing has been happening in my ear in
the last seven minutes. You can't imagine the amount of
screaming that's been happening that might from the production booth
into my ear. While these lists are unfolding as you
were going.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
They were like, there's no Eagles, there's a LEVELO.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
And then you just said, oh, the Eagles have beat
two of my teams. And then the simp that just
came into me they've actually beaten three of your teams. Kyle,
you forgot about the Bucks because if nothing else, the
guys in the booth like to make that gals in
the booth like to make sure that we all stand
corrected with our teams. But Kyle, you think it's annoying when.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
My little whisters.
Speaker 9 (15:22):
Trying to stay unbiased with a passionately biased production booth
in Los Angeles, I mean, guys of all things.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Now you're writing for the Eagles. Did you watch the
game last day? And I didn't bet an eye. You're
leaving the Eagles off of my time.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
I'm very sorry. I'm very sorry.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Out Watch he always did all right.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
So a team that I believe showed up on all
of your top five lists are the Chiefs. Seeing Rapaport,
good morning to you. Get in here NFL Hour, get
insider with us this morning. Chiefs battled back to five
hundred over the weekend, massive win over the Lions, and
now they're looking as Manti mentioned to be getting some
offensive firepower back just in time. What's the latest in
Kansas City.
Speaker 11 (16:04):
Rashi Rice is coming back for the Kansas City Chiefs,
eligible to be on the field this week, and that's
exactly what is going to happen. Andy Reid saying yesterday
that he has been working like crazy to get back
and really for the Kansas City Chiefs, well, you've been
doing this entire start of the season. It's just treading
water and making sure that you are still viable when
your best receiver, Rashi Rice comes back. He looked electric
(16:27):
during training caip Obviously, he has missed the last six
weeks six games with a suspension of violating in the
NFL's Personal Conduct Policy for his role in an off
season horrific crash. He is now back, he has one
hundred percent after an injury, and he should be good
to go this week. Remains to be seen if that's
the case for Poka Nakua, the Rams star receiver actually
(16:47):
leading the NFL and catches, he suffered an ankle spring.
Now our understanding me and Mike Carrifo is that he
is seriously.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
In doubt for this week.
Speaker 11 (16:55):
Sean McVay called him day to day. They will learn
more about his participation as they go throughout the week.
They got the Jags this week and then a buye
so could heal in about two weeks and then for
the Bucks. Mike mentioned the injuries at receiver a Mecca Abuka.
He's dealing with a hamstring injury and my understanding is
not quite as serious as say Mike Evans. He is
(17:16):
expected to miss some time, is expected to miss this week.
So your guys, Sterling Shepherd, who is coming up, is
going to be even more important than he previously was.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Yeah, you said that right, Ian.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
It's our guy, Sterling Sheppard coming on GMFB in just
a couple of minutes. We appreciate that so much. That's
a tease in television talk talk to you a little
bit rap sheet.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
He mentioned it.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Baker Mania is all the rage. But who are the
guys that are part of the supporting cast in this
books offense that we can't not watch every weekend? Sterling
Shepherd on that list. We got to get to the
bottom of a very crazy thing that happened on the
sideline with Tampa Bay last weeknd Kyle.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Yeah, and on the field, he's making place every single week.
He looks great.
Speaker 9 (17:55):
Plus we had some fun yesterday with who Donnie Wahlberg.
Speaker 10 (17:59):
Yeah, look at my guy, my favorite new kid, huge
Pats fan, unrecognizable in the sixth sense.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Some people don't even know it's him.
Speaker 6 (18:07):
Incredible career, a TV star.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Now we incorporate that into whiteboard Wednesday. That's siblings and
all of sports. Look at the sunglasses alone. Wow, don't
go anywhere.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Good morn.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
Yeah, make it for you. The ball.
Speaker 8 (18:40):
I was like, I, Hey, I was gonna have.
Speaker 9 (18:44):
You with you, but you know what, but you know
what now I'm.
Speaker 7 (18:48):
But look.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
Your day was saying, I said, m v P.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
God mother, I said, great man, you.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Know I'm sometimes okay.
Speaker 6 (19:03):
Now you about are going crazy? Well you need it with
a little bit of coffey.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
And how you put the code time for what's your beef?
Presented by old Trapper. So the story goes that Tess
Johnson had a single catch for the Buccaneers over the weekend.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
It was his first in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
It was his first touchdown reception good for forty five yards,
and he hears MVP in the stands, well, this young
man who's a great catch and a backflip for the
ages stuck, the landing thinks the MVP chanswer for him.
My beef is as follows Sterling Shepherd the grizzly vet
in the room within the wide receiver group on the sideline.
Speaker 12 (19:42):
Wat does this young man have.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
A fleeting moment of joy where he thinks the entire
stadium in Tampa Bay is cheering MVP for him? Is
Sterling's like, Nah, dude, Baker Mayfield is the one that
threw you that ball.
Speaker 9 (19:54):
How can I can't.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Imagine I have beef with the scenario.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
I don't know how to navigate that.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
So with that we have to invite Sterling Shepherd onto
the show to figure out how this whole.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
Thing went down.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
The clip the scenario was pure comedy. Sterling, take it
to take us through it from your side of things.
Speaker 13 (20:11):
Yeah, you know what, this is an ongoing battle between
Tess and I.
Speaker 14 (20:14):
I asked all the time.
Speaker 13 (20:16):
I'm like man who asked the silliest questions in the room.
And it gets a little bit upset because we put
him top on the board. But I'm just so happy
that it got caught on film. But he owned up
to it and it was a great play. It was
a lot of fun. But yeah, he's definitely leaderboard in
that room, and you see.
Speaker 6 (20:36):
That is not going to be the end of it.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Sterling, what's up, man? How you doing? I hope everything's
going well down there.
Speaker 8 (20:41):
I can see it seems to be going well.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
Do we have that ready by the way control room?
Speaker 8 (20:45):
Because I want to bring this up because when you
got back we're talking back on January eighth, twenty twenty four,
they are grabbing it.
Speaker 6 (20:51):
Sterling. I just sent it to them.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Me and you standing on.
Speaker 8 (20:53):
The field at MetLife Stadium doing a postgame interview after
the game with the Giants. We thought like this was
gonna be your last game in the NFL. Potentially we're
an officially retired. But it was like, ah, we'll see,
this may be it, And for a while looked like
it was gonna be. And then Baker comes calling and says, hey,
why don't.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
You come down and join us?
Speaker 8 (21:11):
Like two years later, now you're an integral part of
a team that right now looks like it is headed
to the postseason. Could you have imagined if I told
you then what was gonna happen over the next and
then you'd still be playing football and still be doing
it at a high level for a team like.
Speaker 13 (21:24):
This man no shot, and it's been nothing short but
then a blessing. You know, I'm truly grateful to be
in this position. And like you said, I was in
full retirement mode. I mean I was taking the kids
to school, you.
Speaker 14 (21:37):
Know, doing all the daddy.
Speaker 13 (21:40):
You know, my Nancy would ask me like, why are
you still back there running? And I was like, I
don't know why I'm out here running hills and stuff
like that, and sure enough Begker calls me and here
we are.
Speaker 14 (21:51):
So it's been great and it's been a blessing.
Speaker 9 (21:54):
It has been a watch too, especially you know, you
out there, you're making.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Plays every single week.
Speaker 9 (21:58):
And then we got what I think is the play
of the year so far in the NFL third and fourteen.
You were there, Number six is running around like a maniac.
And here's what you're head coach who is steadily becoming
a better and better quote each and every year. Here's
what Todd Bowles had to say about third and fourteen.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
Have a listen.
Speaker 15 (22:16):
First impressions was go down, tuck the ball away, You're
gonna get killed. Then he broke out of the pocket. Okay,
slide sl slide. Then he goes to the left. Oh,
my guy's getting ready to get killed. And this guy's crazy.
I think he's gonna make it.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
It's like, good yet, got yet, got jap Baker? And
then you go to the next play, let's.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
Go come for you, all right?
Speaker 6 (22:38):
What's it like to hear coach like that?
Speaker 9 (22:39):
And then take us through your perspective on third and
fourteen and everything you.
Speaker 14 (22:42):
Were thinking, Yeah, I mean to hear coach like that.
Speaker 13 (22:45):
You know, he's he's a mild manner guy for the
most part, but he's been getting hyped up a bit
this season, so it's been pretty cool to see. But
for me as a player in those moments, man, it
is something because I kind of get thought in no
man's land. I'm like, yo, do I scramble drew right here?
Or there's nobody around me? Do I just turn to
a spectator? And then I'm like, and this guy, this
(23:08):
guy is nuts. And then he does it routinely and
like that back in our college day.
Speaker 14 (23:14):
To be honest, but it's been fun, fun to watch
and fun to be a part.
Speaker 7 (23:18):
Of Sterling and nothing that happens on routine. As you
catching the football, you have two catches for fifty one
yards on Sunday versus Niners.
Speaker 6 (23:25):
Both had some swag to him.
Speaker 7 (23:26):
Man, that's no stranger to me, knowing how you bring
what you bring to the game. One was a toe
tap on the silence and a catch over the middle
and then a little celebration.
Speaker 6 (23:34):
Take us through those plays.
Speaker 13 (23:36):
Yeah, I'm just trying to be there when my team
needs me, you know, on those big plays, big third downs.
But when it comes to the celebration, man, I just
kind of do whatever pops into my mind. And you
know the little dance after that second and long. Yeah,
I just kind of just kind of popped in my
brain and I was like, let's do it.
Speaker 14 (23:54):
Kind of had a little in there. That's my boy.
Speaker 8 (23:57):
But yeah, I talked earlier in the show about Todd
Balls getting offensive courts that are marrying with Baker and
like Baker's become a head coach maker the last couple
of years, and maybe Josh Grizzard is going to be next.
Here your offensive coordinator. You've played for plenty of them
and throughout your career. Tell me what Josh Grizzard is
doing so well down in Tappa, because I hear nothing
(24:17):
but glowing reviews.
Speaker 13 (24:18):
Yeah, he's been doing a great job and you couldn't
even tell that this was his first year. I've just
been very pleased with how he's been putting us in
the right position. And I mean it starts at practice.
Throughout the week, he's continuously communicating with us and what
he sees and what he expects from us, and it's
been helping us out. And also, just like going from
(24:39):
Liam to him, it's kind of the same same offense,
same scheme, but he has his own little twist to
it and he simplified it for us, So we've seen
a lot of benefit from there too. But I've been
extremely proud of him and the way he's been able
to handle this season this far straling.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
It's been really cool to see this group of wide
receivers and Tampa Bay work together, specifically the young guys
we mentioned Taz already, but also a Mecca Buka. You
yourself have had a prolific career. Do you impart any
wisdom upon these rookies and share with them, maybe some
things that you wish you had known in your first
year or two in the NFL, And would you share.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
That with us?
Speaker 13 (25:17):
Yeah, when it comes to Mick, there's not too much
you need to say today, young man. I mean, he's
like beyond his years, super intelligent, and if anything I'm
telling him is just a way to keep up with
your body and the body work stuff because when it
comes on the field, he has it.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
Now.
Speaker 14 (25:35):
Tz I got to spend.
Speaker 13 (25:36):
A little bit more time with, but they both are
extremely talented and are well beyond their years. So I've
been happy with the young guys that we have in
the room.
Speaker 9 (25:50):
Yeah, it's Ted's doing it, you know, one hundred and
sixty pounds or something like that. That is just pure
talent and skilled to be able to do.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
That in the league.
Speaker 9 (25:57):
But listen, Startling, you had this incredible journey. You talked
about how you were on retirement mode almost off the field.
Baker journey is ridiculous as well, Rams and Panthers, all
these different teams. You have this amazing advantage that everyone
wishes they had if you knew him back when like
you go way back with this guy before everyone wanted this.
(26:17):
Is there a story or an anecdote about Baker that
piple don't know, like the Virall story where you're like,
if someone were to ask me, like, dude, tell me
something about Baker that would blow my mind?
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Like what is the story?
Speaker 6 (26:30):
Man?
Speaker 14 (26:31):
You know what? There are so many stories, but I
don't know.
Speaker 13 (26:33):
If I but I go for it. I've not gonna
share him some stuff, you know. Yeah, I'm going to
keep those to myself.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
But like he is.
Speaker 13 (26:46):
Been doing a great job man on the field, on
and off the field. You know, he plays with a
chip on his shoulder and if he doesn't have a
reason to have a chip, he will find a reason.
And I mean you could see it in the play.
He plays every play like it says last And that's
my boy. And been riding with him for a long
time to.
Speaker 9 (27:05):
You sure have, man, And I'll tell you what else
is speaking of a long time, We're looking back several
years before this interview started.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
You're in commercial break and you.
Speaker 9 (27:13):
Shout out our boy, Manti and you're like, oh, remember when.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
The Irish came to ou? Guys.
Speaker 9 (27:19):
This is twenty twelve fighting Iris versus Sooners, Manti Sterling,
bring man Ti in here, Sterling. You start, I remember
Landry Jones throwing like fifty passes in this game.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
What do you remember about this one man?
Speaker 14 (27:32):
To be honest.
Speaker 13 (27:33):
When I saw him, I was like, man, I just
remember the film study that week, and I was like,
you know what if I catch one of these screens,
I'm running the opposite direction.
Speaker 14 (27:44):
He wasn't playing any games.
Speaker 13 (27:45):
He was done with man, So yeah, he was one
of them guys. I was trying to keep my eye on.
I think he may attackle me one time, but it
w wasn't too groupsome.
Speaker 7 (27:54):
Yeah, no, I think it was on the styline ster,
That's all it is. Yeah, that was on a sideline.
Speaker 6 (28:00):
Bro. You I think you back joked on one and
I swear, Bro, I got you by the shoelace.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
But I was like, whoa, I alt want to end
it up on somebody's highlight tape. But I remember that
night like it was yesterday. The red and the white
stripes in the stadium. You guys had that carriage run
out there. I was like, Oh, this is primetime. It's
different over here in Norman.
Speaker 6 (28:21):
Man was it was?
Speaker 7 (28:23):
It was so fun to be there, Bro, And I'm
so proud of you and so happy for you and
all that you've accomplished in your career. And Bro, the
best thing is that still ain't over. Bro, stay laying
over before you keep going, brother, right, baby, I love it.
Speaker 6 (28:34):
I love it.
Speaker 13 (28:36):
Likewise, Bro, I'm happy to see you doing your thing
on TV.
Speaker 14 (28:39):
Man, you're doing a great job.
Speaker 6 (28:40):
Appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
Bro, That's awesome. Sterling, you're the man.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
We wish you the best, Stay healthy, stay well. We
can't wait to watch the box move on. You sit
at five and one right now. On Monday Night, we'll
watch you take on the Lions like Primetime too. Just
like Oklahoma, Notre Dame Lions and all the NFC powerhouses,
We're gonna be watching, Sterling, Thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
In Line and Baker too well.
Speaker 12 (29:05):
The NFL Way to Play Awards are fueled by Gatorade.
They are created to recognize and reward players who lead
by example using proper playing technique. One game in particular
stood out in Week six.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
And with more.
Speaker 12 (29:16):
Here's five time Pro Bowl defensive back and current executive
price President of Football Operations for the NFL, Troy Vincent,
picking out.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
Our one player.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
This week.
Speaker 16 (29:28):
I'm gonna focus on three plays from the Broncos Jets
game in London. First, play Quantes Stiggers. Watch Quantes make
an open field tackle head out shoulder in seeing his target.
Wonderful play here. Next play, take a look at Patrick's
team stance start, outstanding break on the football.
Speaker 14 (29:47):
Excellent technique here.
Speaker 16 (29:48):
But the winner this week is Talanoah who Funga watching
the runners come across his face in his own coverage,
but his approach to the ball care seeing what he
hits shoulder end head out outstanding play here.
Speaker 12 (30:03):
Well for Hanga Fufunga's terrific way to play example, the

the winner is senior defense is the announcement of this
week's winner is a Steff senior defensive back who shows
great hustle play. Here's Jets and Dolphins quarterback and current
high school football head coach in Lexington, Kentucky, Chad Pennington.
Speaker 17 (30:40):
This week's winner is Hameron Miller, defensive back Anthony Wayne
High School in Ohio. Love his stance, shoulders over knees.
Chin Overtes has a great approach, got a tempo backpedal,
but then the finish is unbelievable. I love the fact
that he actually gets held fight through the hole and
then doesn't give up on the play at all. He
(31:00):
goes right down the left hand sideline, shows amazing speed
and it has a great technique used here with the
arm chop to cause the force fumble. What a great play, Cameron, congratulations,
A way to play.
Speaker 6 (31:13):
For sure, Way to play for sure.
Speaker 12 (31:16):

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Good morning football.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
Rock out with your whiteboards out, let's go. We're gonna
do a little recap of Week six. Falcons handed the
Bills with their second loss in a row. Bears got
their third straight win. Sitan's head coach Brian Callahan was fired.
Brian Branch was suspended after a fight at the end
of Chiefs Lions.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
Joe Flacco is now a Bengal, the.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
Panthers upset the Cowboys, and the Colts look like the
best team.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
In the NFL.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Got it, got it, got it all right. All these
moments happened and then some over the weekend.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
What is the most.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
Surprising thing that has happened in Week six?
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Man, TI?
Speaker 7 (32:15):
The most surprising theme for me that happened, guys is
when these two rookies went against the Philadelphia Eagles defense
and did what they did.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
They put up thirty four points.
Speaker 7 (32:22):
Since Vic Fango has been the defensive coordinator for the
Philadelphia Eagles, they only happened one time before this, Guys.
They scored five touchdowns those two. These two guys were
credited with four of them, and they're all rushing touchdowns.
I have never saw two rookies do what they did
to one of the more physical defenses in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (32:40):
So I got to go with these two rookies.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
Nice.
Speaker 8 (32:43):
I think I just learned something. Is the Falcons logo
and f I drew it, it is a question, really
sure I ever ever looked at that by design, it's
n f I didn't realize it until I drew it.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
I've never realized that before.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
You how about that you learned know.
Speaker 9 (32:57):
The Milwaukee Brewers isn't m gonna be that idea sounds amazing.
Speaker 8 (33:00):
The Montreal expos one had me full for years.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Anyway.
Speaker 8 (33:03):
The Falcons running the Bills the way that they did
on Monday Night Football, and I know, like we talked
about this early in the show, it's kind of like
you get a game stuck in your head when you're
trying to say who's the top five teams in the league,
And it's like I thought about that Panthers game from a.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Couple of weeks ago. Who is that team? Who is
this team?
Speaker 8 (33:23):
Could not expecting to bounce back from the Bills after
the disappointing losses the Patriots, and you get the opposite.
I thought they played so impressive. I thought John Robinson
was outstanding. The Atlanta Falcons surprised me.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
That's incredible. I've never thought of it that before. Either.
Speaker 9 (33:38):
I have a Jamie. Mine's not fun. There's a lot
of wacky fun stuff that's going on. It's not fun,
but it is what I'm legitimately surprised about. Like I
can't believe that the Ravens are one and five. This
is so strange, and I know Lamar is hurt, and
I understand that we have seen Lamar be hurt before.
We have had periods of Snoop Huntley, and they continue
to persist. They're just one of these things that is
(34:00):
a stalwart in the wind of the NFL. You can
count on them. They're one of the brands that it's
always going to matter. And it's like almost like even
if Lamar wasn't hurt, I don't know what would be
going on because their defense is so poor. It's just
a very sad thing and I probably shouldn't be devoting
time on it when there are more positive stories, but
I'm doing it out of respect and admiration for this
era of the Ravens. Really every era of the Ravens,
(34:21):
like since the Ravens have been the Ravens, there's always
something you can really count on. Just looking at them
in the standings, putting up three points against.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
The Rams to go to one in five, it's not right.
I don't like it, and I.
Speaker 9 (34:31):
Want Lamar back on on the field, and there would
be nothing I would like more to see them come
tearing down the stretch. But my god, right now they're
going someplace I can't follow.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
Back in two thousand and two, they were shut out
at home against the Buccaneers and then this last game
against the Rams or they only scored three points, second
lowest points scored at home. Not fun at M ANDT
Bank Stadium. You're right, Kyle's uncomfortable, but you have to
acknowledge it. Next one up, I'm like Wednesday, we had
to be one and only quote machine Jim Harbaugh himself,
who compared his quarterback to a certain action movie star.
Speaker 18 (35:00):
Follow it the Mission Impossible movie, the The Final Reckoning,
I think it's called. I was watching that on the
caught a little bit of that on the plane on
the way back from Miami, and that's what I was like, Hey,
like Ethan Hunt justin Herbert, I mean, there are people
(35:20):
don't realize all the you know, the things that they do.
You know, Mission Impossible kind of says it all. Then
he just he's like Ethan Hunt.
Speaker 4 (35:31):
To be a movie director.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
You know what I think I need from the Chargers
media production. I need camera looking at the press core
because when he says some of this stuff, I need
to understand the facial reactions. But sometimes it just sounds
like really awkwardly quiet in there where he's like looking
for affirmation. Anyways, let's pike an action movie character. Shall
we pick a quarterback and make the parallel for me?
Speaker 4 (35:51):
Man' ti hear it first.
Speaker 7 (35:52):
So I got the wily veteran Aaron Rodgers, and I'm
comparing him to Doc Holiday from my favorite movie Tombstone.
Speaker 6 (35:59):
I think there's two guys.
Speaker 7 (36:00):
There's a lacks of days of coal, almost fun, not
caring feel about these two, but within an instant boys
they are sharp shooters, that extremely loyal, that would fight
for their teammates. And so when I look at Aaron Rodgers,
I see that about him, like he throws the ball
so easily, but then whenever he needs to, he can
spin that thing like I do Holiday did in Tombson.
Speaker 6 (36:20):
So that's who I got.
Speaker 9 (36:22):
Also, Rogers, a huge fan of Doc Holliday, had worn
shirts before winning.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
What do you got my go ahead?
Speaker 2 (36:26):
Baker and Deadpool.
Speaker 8 (36:27):
Uh, this is the sort of funny uh the action
movie like I tend to dread this category. This one
was easy for me. Baker and Deadpool. You know you've
got that little bit of run that Todd Bowles clip
back if you went through that all, like, oh my god,
what is he doing?
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Hey, well, look at that. He saved the day.
Speaker 8 (36:43):
In the end, there's a little bit of swagger, there's
a little bit of uh, you know, too much for
TV type stuff times Baker Mayfield, Deadpool, the handshake emoji.
Speaker 9 (36:53):
These two guys, Yeah, real, real smart mouth on something
too unkillable little letter what yeah got.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
Ba Deadpool? Technically Canadian Baker is not. But I'm going
to go. I'm going to go to the nineties. One
of my.
Speaker 8 (37:11):
Sharing a whiteboard here, Yeah, I'll tell you why.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Here we go.
Speaker 9 (37:16):
I have one for Joe Burrow, Joe Burrow, and I'm
comparing him to the Crow.
Speaker 4 (37:23):
You guys, mess with the Crow. I'm talking about nineteen
ninety four. The Crow.
Speaker 9 (37:26):
That's the one starting out because I did my own
crow drawing on the whiteboard. That is Brandon Lee on
the right, the late Brandon Lee. It's a very very
tragic story, not only the actual movie, but what really happened.
The Crow is a guy, the character who gets killed
by this these evil people, and then he comes back
in exacts revenge as of what happened. Brandon Lee, the
son of Bruce Lee, was actually killed on the set.
(37:48):
It's a terrible story, but I'm going more in the
fictional sense. Joe Burrow is this mystical figure with these
the cryptic quotes, in this cool vibe and this aura,
and we would like nothing better to see him come
back and avenge the wrong that was done to him
him A La The Crow. I Love The Crow, nineteen
ninety four. If you haven't seen it, super dark. Ernie
(38:10):
Hudson is in it. There's rock music, there's goth music,
there's industrial music, and there's all kinds of butt kicking.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
So check it out. Joe Burrow, I hope you're doing
some of your own.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Anytime Kyle makes a point about something I don't know
what's from, I always just bet myself. It's from nineteen
ninety four, Last one, Yesterday, Donnie Robert. It's a great year,
great ye last year, Donnie Wahlberg. Wahlberg joined GMFB, and
of course you know Wahlberg from Boston Blue, from Blue Bloods,
and from many other participation, including his brother Mark Wahlberg.
What's your favorite celebrity sibling, Manti and.
Speaker 6 (38:39):
Why Jaking Logan?
Speaker 7 (38:41):
Paul I like Jaking Logan, Paul, I really do. I
got bad respect for these two brothers.
Speaker 6 (38:45):
Like you talk about self belief. That's what these two
brothers did. They started off as YouTubers.
Speaker 7 (38:51):
Now one really took on boxing and another one he's
one of the best entrepreneurs and brands and all of that. So,
you know, shout out to Logan. He reached out to
me after my documentary as well, So I got the
Logan brothers nice the Paul brothers.
Speaker 9 (39:03):
I gotta tell you I worked I worked with Logan
Paul once a few years ago, and I said something
on social media about, like, I gotta say you, Logan
Paul was like really charismatic and intelligent and very nice
to work with, and I got absolutely destroyed. We're even
just saying something nice about someone. They're so polarizing and
they get so much heat. Maybe some of it self deserved,
but I was just trying to say a nice thing
about the guy, and I got besieged upon, Like I'm done,
(39:25):
I'm canceled just for saying he was a nice guy.
Speaker 8 (39:27):
I'm going with the Culkins. I was humbled by the universe.
Last week. On Friday, my daughter Vivian was like, you
gotta come on my field trip to the pumpkin patch.
Speaker 6 (39:36):
I had had a long day.
Speaker 8 (39:36):
I started here, I went all the way through the
Giants Eagles game. Nick Girianni, I love you, but the
hour we have to wait postgame for you to come
to the podium. Can you cut down on that a
little bit?
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Get home?
Speaker 4 (39:45):
At like one point thirty in the morning.
Speaker 8 (39:47):
I'm up at six oh unbelievably long, and I'm like,
why why am I? I look over, I go, is
that Kiaren Cochin over there with his kid with the
other school there? Walk back to where everybody's having lunches.
Anybody see Kien Cochin.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yes, that's Karen Colke.
Speaker 8 (40:00):
I mean looking haggard and yeah, hair all over the place.
But I'm like, if an Oscar winner is here, his
kids shut up.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
Mike.
Speaker 9 (40:07):
Also a shout out to Rory Culkin. There's a third
Culkin brother. It's like the third Hemsworth brother. Who it's
like Derek Watt, like, I met those and my guys.
Speaker 4 (40:14):
I messed with that. I'm gonna shout out some movies, Jamie.
Speaker 9 (40:18):
You might know some of these New York minute switching
goals when in Rome it takes two. Do you know
any of those things? Yes, I'm shouting out Elizabeth to
the Olsen not twins family.
Speaker 4 (40:30):
This is the deal.
Speaker 9 (40:31):
What an incredible setup, and that there's the three of them,
the Olsen twins, Mary, Kate and Ashley. They just carried
everything for the nineties for years and years and years.
And then Elizabeth Olson's like, oh, I'll slap it like
a tag team. Now I'm a global celebrity, I'm an avenger,
I'm beloved. This is an incredible thing. Also, I haven't
heard from the Olsen twins in a long time. I
(40:52):
asked Research to look into it. Apparently they got a brand.
They don't do make many public appearances. They're just doing
their thing and God bless them. They put in their
time and now they're younger sisters. Nick significantly taller, but
they're young younger sister Lizzie Olsen now just crushing it.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
What a family with Olsen says she used to hang
out on the set of Full House and like that's
how she learned how to conduct her business. The Row
is the clothing brand that the Olsens now have invested into.
It's like Friday there creative property and uh, those are great, fantastic.
The Pauls, the Coulgainst, the Olsens, that's GMFB. On a Wednesday,
everybody will be a bet.
