Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Good Morning Football.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
That's right, this is Good Morning Football. We are presented
by old Trapper Beef Jerkey and it's a Wednesday, which
means we have what's your Beef which is coming up
this hour.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
I think Kyle Brandt is gonna wear that hat today
for us.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
That is Isaiah stand back at the table for the
second hour of GMFY.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
This is Achbaraja Biamilla.
Speaker 5 (00:44):
You're good.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
It's been through and a half months on the show.
And that the first bled it I bobbled.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
The Demaggio fifty six game hitting streak is over. Jimmy Man,
I'm sorry, it's fine. You had a great streak. You've
done a wonderful job.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
This is Peter Schragger and Kyle Brant. Wait like this,
Peter Sreger, Kyle Brant isaiya, welcome back to the table.
Yesterday we had a heck of a sh It was
trades and another trade, but then the Jerry Jones thing
kind of shockingly flew under the radar because answered happened.
What was the Lincoln Dallas you cover that you have
on the pregame show for the Cowboys.
Speaker 6 (01:15):
It's a lot of things going on in Dallas right now.
Speaker 5 (01:16):
Obviously a lot of people are trying to dive in
and find out exactly what's.
Speaker 6 (01:19):
Going on with mister Jones.
Speaker 5 (01:20):
And the reality is, you know, pressure burst pipes, and
I think he was just tired of the conversation in
regards to decisions that he's making and just like anybody,
right if you if you feel some.
Speaker 6 (01:28):
Type of way about the decisions that you make.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
And he made this statement obviously in the interview that
everybody's talking about. He's like, you know, if I was
to make a list of everything that I've ever done wrong,
we'll be here all day long. Everybody makes the mistakes.
I'm aware of the things that I could have done
better in my lifetime.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
I don't need you to keep.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
Forcing the issue in terms of pushing the question. So
that's what happened yesterday. He got a little testy and
pushed back a little bit on the radio host, and
that's what's going on in regards down to the Dallas
But luckily there was enough trading going on yesterday that
kind of pushed that story to the.
Speaker 7 (01:54):
Back pressure bursts a question, can you set up can
you set up the who are those guys, Sean?
Speaker 8 (02:02):
And who are they? Do they work for the Cowboys?
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Do you know the situation?
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:07):
So it's a it's the fan down there in Dallas, right,
so one O five three of the fan. It's the
local big sports radio station down there, and they have
a partnership with the Dallas Cowboys. So Jerry Jones has
an agreement with him where he does an interview with
them every single day.
Speaker 6 (02:20):
So this is guys that he talks to all the time.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Everybody obviously coming off of a game where you just
got you know, the breaks beat off of you, you
know at home, you know you have a lose, losing streak,
and it just happened to be on your birthday, you know.
The last thing he wanted to be addressing was continuous
questions in regards the decisions that he was making. Man,
everybody again is trying to push the envelope. What are
you gonna do? What's gonna be your response? He's like,
I sign McCarthy. McCarthy's here is even his last year. Like,
I'm not making any major changes, so stop asking me
(02:43):
the question.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
And then he was on his way to Atlanta to
the owners meetings and reporters tried to address Jerry Jones
there and he's like, not now unless you want me
to know exactly.
Speaker 9 (02:53):
Cool.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Let's go off on a game on Sunday that we
are looking forward to so much, which is the Vikings
are coming off the buy. They remain undefeated after beating
the Jets in London a couple of weeks back, and
then of course the Alliance they enter at four and one.
This is an NFC North battle we are looking forward to,
and of course partially led by the defense in Minnesota
and their coordinator Brian Flores addressing what it's going to
(03:15):
be like to face the line's offense.
Speaker 10 (03:18):
It's a talented team really across the board. They play physical.
They don't really have a lot of weaknesses. You know,
normally you can you know, you watch the tape and
you say, hey, we're going to tack them here. That's
not really the case with this group. So really, from
the backs to the tight ends, to the receivers, to
the old line or the quarterback, to the play caller,
all of it is you know, high level.
Speaker 9 (03:37):
They do a really nice.
Speaker 11 (03:38):
Job against an aggressive play caller, and I guess you'll
see some of this this weekend. How does that change
things for a defensive coach trying to counter that?
Speaker 10 (03:45):
I mean, I try to fight fire with fire. You
know that's just me. I mean some other people are different,
all right.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Those are great comments from their Vikings decordinator. Now, if
you consider point differential, this is a set that people
like to obsess over, but it's essentially how badly teams
are beating up on other teams. Not only do the
Vikings Lions sit at the top two in.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
The NFL, the entire division does that?
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Chicago, that's Free Bay and then you see the Bills
sit there. But how ridiculous is it that the NFC
North has real estate at the top of the highest
point differential conversation so far this season?
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Eater, This one is juicy.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
Take your first bite of Fvikings Lions ahead of this weekend.
Speaker 7 (04:26):
I look forward to talking about this game today, Tomorrow, Friday, Saturday.
Speaker 8 (04:31):
And Sunday. I cannot wait for this game. I also
love the cerebral part to this game.
Speaker 7 (04:38):
You've got two of the great tecticians going at it.
Ben Johnson's offense is a thing of beauty. Right now,
they have now kicked the snot out of the Seahawks
and the Cowboys and consecutive weeks, and have done so
with a flair and a style that we don't see
at other offenses and we don't see on week to
week basis is this offensive coordinator from the Lions is
putting on a show every single week, and they do
(05:00):
so with trick plays and a little bit of sizzle
to their We know David Montgomery's going to run the
ball down their throat and that is the hard part
of that offense. Then there is the razzle dazzle.
Speaker 12 (05:13):
This was to an offensive bring that in. They had
the other one to skin in that they tried. Here
this the hook and ladder to Penny. This is what
Ben Johnson has And you know what, the thing that's.
Speaker 7 (05:23):
Scary, this is just scratching the surface of a playbook
that goes deeper and deeper and deeper.
Speaker 8 (05:30):
He's not unveiling this in the second half.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Look at that face.
Speaker 7 (05:34):
He's not unveiling this in the second half of a
Week six game unless he knows he's got stuff for
Week seven, Week eight, week nine, the playoffs and oh yeah,
maybe just maybe for New Orleans and the Super Bowl.
Speaker 8 (05:47):
So you have him on one side, but then you.
Speaker 7 (05:49):
Got that dude in that black vest, flat brimmed hat.
Brian Flores is not here to play around. And Brian
Flores probably was watching on Sunday as the Vikings were
on thereby, and Brian Flor is probably like, oh, is
that right? You want to do some trick plays with
your offensive line, You want to do hooking laterals. Just
wait to what we have in store for Jared Goff
(06:09):
this weekend. If I can indulge one more time, and
I'm sorry to everyone else in this I know there's
eighteen different people in the boxes right now. Can we
roll the Brian Flores sound one more time and just
check the glint in his eye as he's wearing this
puffy vest, flat brim hat and he talks about fighting
fire with fire, because this guy, he is not taking
(06:30):
any prisoners on Sunday.
Speaker 10 (06:31):
It's a talented team really across the board. They play physical,
They don't really have a lot of weaknesses. You know,
normally you can, you know, you watch the tape and
you say, hey, we're going to tack them here. That's
not really the case with this group. So really, from
the backs to the tight ends, to the receivers, to
the old line, or the quarterback, to the play caller.
All of it is, you know, high level. They do
a really nice.
Speaker 11 (06:50):
Job against an aggressive play caller. And I guess you'll
see some of this this weekend. How does that change
things for a defensive coach trying to counter that?
Speaker 10 (06:57):
I mean, I try to fight fire with fire. You know,
that's just me. I mean, really, some other people are different.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
That is some line.
Speaker 8 (07:06):
That's just me.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
Some of other people are different. Take a swig of
that water and just smile. I am so here for
Ben Johnson versus Brian Flores.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Guys.
Speaker 7 (07:15):
I would love it if the game started at about
five minutes. That's how excited I am for this one.
Speaker 13 (07:18):
Well, Peter, I think the way that's gonna materialize on there,
it would be cool to see those two go at it.
But the way we're gonna look at it is it's
gonna be the offensive line. And I'm looking at how
the offensive line for coach Johnson is going to take
on the pressure of Brian Flora's defense and the way
they attack. And so that's why this offensive line is
gonna be so critical in this especially the way they
protect when you look at the way they bring pressure
(07:40):
and then the way they apply especially upfront, like with
the sacks. They can beat you one on one, they
can bring Harrison down, they can use Grinner to go ahead,
beat you on the one on ones.
Speaker 9 (07:48):
This is what.
Speaker 13 (07:49):
And then of course Andrew Van Ginkle, like he makes
plays everywhere on that play. But this is a team
that is bringing pressure. It feels like all the time.
So when I look at Penny Sewell, I look at Decker,
and I go, can these guys handle it? Can they
keep your man, my man, Jared Goff upright in the
pocket so he can make plays. And then the running
backs as well, they're going to have to participate too
(08:10):
in making sure that they can handle all of the
protection calls, to make sure they pick up because we know.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
If you're sending more than they can block. We got issues.
Speaker 6 (08:18):
You got some issues.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
But I'm gonna go ahead and go to the Minnesota
side of things right and put some respect on mister
Sam Donald.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
I know you like the Minnesota he is.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
I know you like he's wearing.
Speaker 8 (08:27):
She's always in a rocky block bar.
Speaker 13 (08:29):
It's subt just like his shirt has just settled undefeated
underneath it.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Yes, you see his sonic has been underfead. So it's
all good. But Sam Donald is balling this year and
everybody needs to put some respect on it. I'm one
as well as most like other people. It's like when
you hear Sam Donald, you understand what his history's been
and you kind of kind of show his career along
to the side until you have to put recognized game
and see what he's doing this year. He is top
five in terms of record. Obviously, those guys are undefeated.
He's top five and passing touchdowns, top five in passing
(08:55):
yards per tenth and only thing that he's not in
the top five in is he's seventh in passer rating.
This dude is a killing man to man defense. He's
top two in every cube.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
You be category.
Speaker 6 (09:04):
When you're talking about Manda Man.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Nine touchdowns, zero interceptions, you guys know who plays a
lot of Manda Man Detroit Detroit and Aaron Glenn.
Speaker 6 (09:11):
They like to play man to man.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
They like to play, matter of fact, forty three percent
Manda Man whenever there's got your playing defense.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
So what does he have at his disposal?
Speaker 5 (09:19):
When you start talking about how he can light up
the Detroit Lions. Well he has to Justin Jefferson, right,
he has a Jordan Addison out there that's killing it.
If you want to play man to man, okay, good
luck against those two. And by the way, if you
do want to play Manda man, how about the linebackers, right,
linebackers and safeties.
Speaker 6 (09:33):
Who are they responsible for?
Speaker 5 (09:34):
Well, they're responsible for the running un backs, right, so
you might be getting Aaron Jones back. You just picked
up a Cam Akers right, who, by the way, has
a great relationship with Kevin O'Connor from his time back
with the Rams.
Speaker 6 (09:43):
And then they might be getting back some tight end
by the name of t J.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
Hogginson who just happens since twenty twenty two to be
the best receiving tight end besides Travis Kelce in the league.
So good luck trying to play a Manda man at
these guys, because Sam Darnold will dice you up.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
You know, this game is good and deep because we
don't often throw around the coordinators as much as we
do in the picuially the quarterbacks the tenth storyline, you know,
but in this one's big, and you know why it's big.
There's an interesting nugget. There is one team in the
NFL that has had the same head coach and two
coordinators for three straight seasons, only one out of thirty two,
and it's the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
It's the only team often scored defense quarter head coach,
you guys.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
And Johnson and Glenn and Campbell. It's the only team
in the league that has that. And that's the reason
why they might be the best team in the league.
I think they There's an interesting thing here in that
the dirty little secret about the Vikings undefeated record. Sam
Donold gets hit a lot, and maybe more than you
might think.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
In fact, we have the statistics to back it up.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Take a look at this in terms of how much
a quarterback gets hit, how much he gets sacked statistically
lining up against everybody else. All right, So it's the
sack rate nine point three is the fourth highest in
the league.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
And guys, due respect to the three teams above them,
those teams aren't going anywhere. They have terrible rits. Expect
it from those.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Of course, Deshaun Watson can't go anywhere. The Patriots, The
Patriots and the Titans have been really bad. And then
so you have those three teams and then a five
to ohero team. Understand what that means. Nine point three
percent of the time he is getting sacked. That's a lot.
So isn't it interesting that the Lions just lost their
best pass rusher? Now normally Notchison. Just put a napkin
on if you're forking knife and go get Sam Donald.
(11:15):
He's gone, his leg's broken. The surge of successful our
hearts are broken for it. And I think the Lions
are in a lot of ways too. Who is that
guy who's going to step up? Because I have seen
the mockups of everyone from Max Crosby to Sadarius Smith
in Lions Jerseys. I haven't heard anything coming from the
Lions about going to spend some money or draft picks
on a pass rusher. And Dan Campbell has said next
man up about sixty times in the last twenty four hours.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Because if they can't touch Sam Donald, who everyone seems
to be touching with their pass rush, then maybe the
Lions do have a problem. So watch the absence of Hutchinson,
the blocking of the Vikings. I normally don't go into
your own line talk, but I really think this is
a massive deal because if the Lions can't touch Donald
in this game, they may have bigger problems moving forward,
and the Hutchinson thing looms.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
Large this one.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
To Kyle's point, like to be able to nitpick these
small parts of the game just means that there's going
to be a lot of layers. This to me is
like a battle of wills, and it's not first shot,
it's last shot.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
Think about this.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
The Vikings have not trailed in a game this entire season.
For three minutes and twenty six seconds, the Vikings have
been behind in a game. Otherwise they're beating teams, So
that creates kind of an emotional standard of like we
get up on top and we stay on top. The
Lions are coming off of back to back forty point wins. Okay,
when I was in high school, my high school football
(12:32):
team two thousand and three, they were beating everybody in
the conference and they're pulling their starters. By the middle
of the third quarter, they were beating the brakes off everybody.
They get their butts handed to them in the state
championship that November because they actually went toe to toe
with the team.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
And the guys are like, we don't play in the
fourth quarter. What is this? They totally ran rough shot
over them.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
They come back the next year they win the whole thing,
but the coach made them stay in the entire game.
These two teams, the Vikings are used to beating everybody.
The Lions are used to beating everybody. What is this
going to look like? If this thing goes into overtime
and this thing has to be played for the full
sixty minutes, this will be an emotional game of wills
and I cannot wait.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Peter, You're right, it needs to kick off in five minutes.
Speaker 8 (13:10):
NFC North, let's go no exactly.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
You know the two thousand and three, two thousand and
four Breck Mustangs because you're a Minnesota guy as.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Well, But that is not the point here, Tom.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Even though you and I could go on that history.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
You know, Tom's like me, like, please stop talking about Minnesota.
There were some trades, Jamie.
Speaker 14 (13:28):
I don't know a whole lot about the Breck Mustang's
history because some of us weren't private school kids.
Speaker 8 (13:33):
So let's went to public school like everybody else.
Speaker 14 (13:36):
We had to grind it out and scratch for every
inch we got in this world. I'm saying, if you
want a public school breakdown. I'm happy to tell you
about the ninety ninety Dina Hornets a baseball team. I
was on the one three out of twenty games.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Wowis bunny?
Speaker 3 (13:54):
You've seen the movie Mighty Ducks. Oh, the character Adam
Banks that they call cake Eater? Where did he come from? Dinah, Minnesota?
So you, my friend, is my going to the the
cake Eater?
Speaker 2 (14:04):
So it's like I'm explaining a lot.
Speaker 14 (14:09):
The Hawks are the true heroes in that movie. I
think that anybody objectively looking at it and thinking about
how Gordon Bombay decided to ruin a kid's life by
making him leave all of his friends to go play
for a terrible team with a couple of figure stares.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Tom, what is your what is the acronym free nine?
Speaker 9 (14:31):
Now?
Speaker 4 (14:31):
What is it? Tell us? Tom?
Speaker 8 (14:32):
Go ahead, Tom, every day I need attention it is?
Speaker 14 (14:35):
I would say that I'm not really I would not
really fall into that category, although I guess I am
on TV floor living every day.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
So that a lot of trades yesterday. Can you tell
us about them? Please?
Speaker 14 (14:46):
We're professionals here, absolutely, Jamie, think about this. From August
twenty ninth through October thirteenth, we had zero trades league wide.
On Monday, the Seahawks broke the seal. They acquired Roy
Robertson Harris for the Jaguars. Then on Tuesday we got
three trades. Let's start out with the big one that
broke during this show yesterday. Davante Adams is officially a
(15:09):
New York Jet, the Jets sending a conditional third round
pick in the twenty twenty five draft to of the
Raiders for Aaron Rodgers old buddy. The Jets also agreed
to take on adams entire remaining salary, which is around
eleven point six million dollars. The Raiders did not want
to eat any money. They wanted to have the opportunity
to get a second round pick, and this can become
(15:30):
a second if Adams makes All Pro or is active
in an AFC Championship game or in the Super Bowl,
not to be undone in the AFC East. The Buffalo
Bills also made a big trade. It is Amari Cooper
heading from the Browns to of the Bills for a
deal that involves Cleveland getting a third round pick. Now
the Bills, as well as the Saints and the Jets
(15:52):
and the Steelers, among others were in on DeVante Adams,
but they did not have the flexibility to take on
that eleven point six million dollars in salary. The Browns
had converted almost the entire salary for Mario Cooper this
season to a signing Bowens back in March for salary
cap purposes, so the Bills get him on their roster
now for around eight hundred thousand dollars for the rest
(16:13):
of the year.
Speaker 8 (16:14):
We also got another trade.
Speaker 14 (16:16):
Late in the day involving another contender. It is the
Minnesota Vikings who are reacquiring running back Cam Acres from
the Houston Texans in exchange for a flop of late
round picks in twenty twenty six. Then you think that
this is just a flashback. No, is the second straight
year that the Vikings have acquired Cam Akers in a
(16:36):
trade last year from the Rams, now from the Texans.
For anybody freaking out they have Aaron Jones on their
fantasy team, I can tell you this is not because
of any long term concerns with Aaron Jones, who of
course dropped out of that game a couple of weeks
ago in London because of a hip injury. This is
just adding another quality back that knows Kevin O'Connell's system.
They go back to la in those days together. So
(16:59):
cam Akers now slotting in for a Vikings team that
possibly will even have Aaron Jones this week. And by
the way, Jamie, we've still got twenty days until the
NFL trade deadline. So clear your calendar. I've already cleared mind.
I'll be here, I'm sure every day between now and
November fifth.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Okay, good Tom, because yesterday it was a wild and
it was like, did we miss a memo that of
facts that went through that they moved the date up.
But my goodness, are we expecting a lot more activity
or was that the surge and now it's going to
fall off?
Speaker 14 (17:27):
I think that anytime, Jamie, you have teams begin to
make what look like splash moves. You have various owners,
you have gms, you have coaches who look at this
and say, why aren't we making a move. So certainly
there's going to be speculation about what becomes of Hasan Reddick,
who has permission at least short term, to seek a
trade from the New York Jets. There are certainly other
(17:47):
teams like the Steelers, like the Saints, potentially among other
teams that are still in the wide receiver market. We
still got remember, three sets of games before we get
to the trade deadline here, so there's a lot of
teams that might be a one to two win team
they're trying to fare out. Are we going to make
a post these coming weeks or are we going to
end up in sel Moode. Not everybody's to that point yet,
but let's see how things evolve here in the coming weeks.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Perfect.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Appreciate you, Tom. We got back to Minnesota. Nice, just fine,
all right? Coming up a friend of our show, Jim Naggy.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
We know and we love him.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
The Reese Senior Bole executive director Go Blue. Jim Naggy
joins the show to discuss the game a Lums and
how those players.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Are now off to a hot start in twenty twenty four.
Plus Kyle has beef.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
I do I really do?
Speaker 1 (18:34):
We know that Rogers throws Hail Mary's and Rogers this
and Rogers that, and it's great, He's incredible every time
he's thrown. When I promise you someone has caught the
ball and had at least a fifty percent stake in
that play.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
But I don't think they get appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
No, Remember, we're going deep on all these gentlemen because
they deserve it.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Right after this good football, what's your beef? That's the question.
Trapper is the jerky.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
It's delicious, it's perfectly seasoned, and it's very high in protein.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
So we enjoy it here.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
It's a big part of the show if you watch it,
a lot of old Trapper, and that's the way we
like it. It also lads us off to a segment
where we have our own personal beef something or someone
and there's something that's been bothering me that's actually part
of a very cool thing that's gone on this week
and for years. Aaron Rodgers throws a lot of hail
Mary's and he completes a lot of them.
Speaker 9 (19:29):
It's awesome.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
You can run the videotape. You saw this right there
at MetLife Stadium. I was there with my son. We
were blown away.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
It's so cool. Rogers is gonna just huck one by about.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Sixty yards in the air, and Alan Lazard catches it
and just brings the house down. My beef is in
the wake of it, and even before it happened.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
It's incredible. Aaron Rodgers does it again.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Rogers the Master, Rogers can make miracles happen. Rogers, Rogers, Rogers, Rogers, Rogers. Okay,
the problem is that over the years, as this hail
and Mary lore of him has been built up, I
don't think there's enough appreciation being given to the gentleman
catching the ball, which is an incredibly hard part of it.
I saw something afterwards where it's like only Rogers could
(20:12):
do it. Guys, every NFL quarterback in the league could
make that throw. It's a pro throw. It is about
sixty yards. I can fill some high school quarterbacks out.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
Of New Jersey who can make that throw.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
It's great, it's accurate, but the catch by Lazard was unbelievable.
It should get way, way more credit than it does.
And Lazart's not the first person, probably not even the
last person. So in the name of this and recognizing
these people and making them our champions, here, good morning football.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
Let's take a look back at.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
These hail mary's that you've seen so many times now
if you're a football fan, but through the lens of
oh my god, how awesome was the catch?
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Let's start with the one that started it all.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Twenty fifteen, an untimed down in Detroit's Rogers makes what
he calls the purest throw of his career. But never
mind that Rogers, pay attention to the one from cal
that catches it. Roll it snap to Rogers, scrambles to
his left under pressure, rolling right, escapes right side, looking.
Speaker 15 (21:07):
Rainbows high and deep into the end zone, and it
is for a touchdown, a leaping.
Speaker 16 (21:15):
Touchdown catches made of the Packers at one unbelievable and
unbelievable finish.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
And by the way, they don't even say the guy's name,
Richard Rogers, also from cow third round pick, again.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Richard Rogers.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Richard Rodgers had eight catches in that game, a career high.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
It was his only game of his career with one
hundred plus yard.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
He would play seventy more career games. He would score
seven more touchdowns and went out to play with the
Eagles and the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
And you know what, how about a little where are
they now?
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Richard Rodgers now works as a sports performance coach and
a trainer. And what if I were to tell you
that that was not even the craziest play.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
His family has been involved with.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
His father, Richard Rodgers Senior also played football at Cal
was the special teams captain on the play against Stamford,
and was both the second and fourth player.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
To lateral the ball on that.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
Is on the field, Rogin, that's his father.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Richard Rodgers Junior.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Richard Rogers Senior, we see you and appreciate the fact
that he high pointed that in traffic. Not Davante him.
He did it, and Richard Rodgers, we appreciate you. Next
twenty fifteen Divisional if you know, you know, and only
the real ones know.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Jeff Janice roll it with sound. What's the catch?
Speaker 17 (22:34):
He reset Starks Rogers is gonna roll away, throws it
up in the air, says a prayer, and Janis.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Does all the stuff.
Speaker 17 (22:43):
Oh please, what a cat.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
That's insane.
Speaker 16 (22:48):
Oh my, that may be one of the great throws
ever made, moving to his left, falling away and launching
a perfect throw.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
I love you, Chris. It was a great throw. It
was a hell of a.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Catch by that man, that is Jeff Janis. I've been
thrown picking twenty fourteen out of Saginaw Valley State happens
to be the alma miner of Matt Lafleur. All these
years later, guys, He had only had four catches only
in his life in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Before this game.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
You know, he also had another touchdown in this game
and another de facto hail Mary on the same drive.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Seven catches for Jeff Janis.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Remember I said, anybody can make that throw against the
against the Bills. Nobody can make that throw that Rogers
made against the Cardinals. I'm going to give him that one.
It's absolutely spectacular. There's a high school kid making.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
That throw, but Jeff Janis makes the catch.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
He only had thirteen more catches in his career after
that play. He signed with the Browns in twenty eighteen
and never played again.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
The where they now is delicious. I love it.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Jeff Janis now owns Janis Tyron Auto in East Tawis, Michigan.
We called Janis Tyron Auto. We tried to get Jeff
on the phone. We couldn't.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
We asked a lot of questions. They ended up hanging
up on us. I think they thought it was a
prank or something. Oh yeah, sure you're calling from the NFL.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
He's still he's what he calls himself a white tailed
junkie in Michigan, which I think means he shoots Jeff Janis.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
We salute you, We respect you.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Unbelievable catch, which brings us to the twenty sixteen Wildcard round.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Through the icy night in Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Let's go to lambeau Field and let's again appreciate the catch.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Giants looking for a stump, They're gonna air it out.
Rogers does this better than anybody en zone touchdown.
Speaker 15 (24:29):
Unbelievable man who does that better than Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 2 (24:35):
It's incredible.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
Now, Randal Cobb, household name me for a football fan.
We don't have to talk about what he's doing now.
Great looking guy, great player at Kentucky, all over the place.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
And did he.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Push off in that play? Absolutely veteran savvy move.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
You just give a little touch and fall back in
the back of the end zone. You know what's really cool.
That's not remembered.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
He had two more touchdowns in this game, two in
the second half. The only game of Randall Cobb's career
where he had three touchdowns in a game. He went
to the Cowboys, he went to the Texans, went back
to the Packers again.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Of course he's on the Jets last year.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
I remember he came on the show when he rejoined
the Packers, and he was living at Rogers house, and
he told us, man, Aaron's got incredible, very expensive toilets
in his house.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
We're like, I bet he does. Must be nice.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Lastly, we go back to New Jersey. It's Jets versus Bills.
It's the end of the first half and Rogers makes
a pretty pedestrian hill Mary throw. But my god, look
at the catch by Alan Lazard.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Look at the catch.
Speaker 17 (25:30):
Roll it.
Speaker 6 (25:32):
Sean Benchnett, two man rush, Rogers says.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Looking moving up, winding up.
Speaker 10 (25:38):
Long arching spiral, thrown down the middle in the end zone.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Jet to cut pot. They're gonna call it tuxdown. He
looked the down, he caught the ball.
Speaker 16 (25:49):
It's a Jets tuxdown fifty two yards held und of believable.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
Again, no name Alan Lazard, Guys, I understand that is
not Rogers making magic. That is Alan Lazard making magic.
You want to know, so it's magic. Look that guy
right there you're looking at leads the NFL in touchdown receptions.
Speaker 2 (26:09):
He leads the entire league.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
It is not Tyreek Hill or Ceedee Lamb or Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
It is Alan Lazard. Respect him.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
He had a really tough game last week in London
before this one where we had drops, including in the
end zone, and then was awesome against Buffalo. I end
with one final SoundBite from Aaron Rodgers himself. I think
really sums up this whole thing. I know, he's a
quarterback and he's famous, and we give him credit all
over Instagram. Remember the guys who catch the passes. And
we'll go back after the third hail Mary after the
game against the Giants, Rogers summed it up perfectly about
(26:39):
what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (26:40):
Go ahead.
Speaker 18 (26:41):
That's three in the last calendar year or so a
little more than that. But it's fun every single time.
It's fun. Yeah, I think we're starting to believe anytime
that ball goes up there, we got a chance. Yeah.
I can throw it pretty good, but it's got to
happen on the other end as well.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
And I couldn't have said it any better about these
hail Mary's. He can throw it pretty good, but it's
gotta happen on the other end as well.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
Champion Rogers, all you want. We here stand for the.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
Other Rogers, for Janie, for Cobb and Lizard, the real
heroes of the hail Mary.
Speaker 6 (27:14):
Absolutely love this man.
Speaker 13 (27:16):
I absolutely love you know.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
We should break catches, guys. We should.
Speaker 13 (27:20):
We should name these intercession blessings like this should be
called the divine grabs. Like I think if we give
it a name, then that way they can go, oh,
hell Mary, because it's a hell Mary, the hell Mary,
and then with the divine grab, Alanlizard with the divine
grab because it just stops at the hell Mary. It's
you're asking for hell Mary. You gotta catch it. So
(27:40):
the divine grab, that's what we're gonna call this intercession.
Speaker 6 (27:43):
I got some.
Speaker 8 (27:43):
Breaking news here, guys.
Speaker 7 (27:44):
This is kind of crazy actually, and I don't know
if the news desk is aware.
Speaker 6 (27:47):
Sara's here.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
This is from the Jets.
Speaker 8 (27:51):
Jeff Janis has now been signed by the New York Oh,
I'm kidding.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
They called the Tires Shop.
Speaker 12 (27:57):
They called the Tires Shop and Jeff the white Tail.
Speaker 8 (28:00):
That's it.
Speaker 12 (28:01):
If Rogers wants it, Rogers gets it.
Speaker 8 (28:03):
Janis come right back seven.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
Years remove he listen. I like to segment there. The
thing is, when you're playing quarterback.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
I played quarterback back in college, and I have a
handful of these these opportunities. You feel like you have
mind control over the ball for whatever reason.
Speaker 6 (28:17):
As a quarterback.
Speaker 5 (28:18):
You heard Aaron Rodgers talking about, you know, say, I
can slay that thing, but somebody has to catch it.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
In your hit.
Speaker 5 (28:22):
When you throw the ball, you're literally throwing it to
a spot. So the fact that Aaron Rodgers had been
able to complete some of these over his career.
Speaker 6 (28:28):
It's not by chance. It's my skill.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Baby.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
It's like a remote.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
You're like, let me just move these guys around and
then like land and you're just not gonna get a
receiver's no credit, Well get you yourself.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
Call the tire place. That's amazing dedication.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
No, I did not.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
It was I was producer in Lakwan and apparently the
conversation didn't go well.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
And I still think they might have thought they were
being pranked. But he can illustrate it. We should call
them again and again.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
And by the way, if you were in that Michigan
area and you need a deal on a tire, you
can do a lot worse than Janie Tire.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
And Auto and East howis Michigan. Okay, go and give
them a I'm sure they got a great deal there.
Speaker 13 (29:05):
I mean, I mean with your name, like, hey, this
is Kyle Brandt. I mean like, oh, shoot, you know
what I mean, like you would have got them.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
You think the Kyle Branton, well, you know so many people.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
You probably claim that you know the owner and the
mechanic there and Janis tyron.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Are so you call him, I don't know he he
I've actually never.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Been lis Janis hieron Auto.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
No, Ohmar, what you got?
Speaker 9 (29:29):
Well?
Speaker 19 (29:29):
That Mason play looking like Davante Adams because, of course,
yesterday the big news out of New York was the
Jets acquiring superstar wide receiver Davante Adams in that trade
with the Raiders, and excitement all the way around from
owner Woody Johnson to quarterback Aaron Rodgers and of course
interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich.
Speaker 9 (29:48):
I'm ecstatics super excited.
Speaker 15 (29:51):
Not only an elite player as we all know, but
the relationship with him and Aaron just takes his.
Speaker 9 (29:56):
Value to a whole nother space for us.
Speaker 15 (29:58):
So I'm super excited and got an opportunity to actually
meet him this morning, which was even better. You know,
I knew him obviously from tape and everything that we've
seen as a football player, but to get to know
the man a little bit this morning was special, Like.
Speaker 9 (30:13):
You can just feel it on him.
Speaker 15 (30:14):
Just not only that elite player, but an elite human being,
and teammates.
Speaker 9 (30:17):
So excited him to get him into the mix.
Speaker 19 (30:22):
Meanwhile, in Pittsford, quarterback Russell Wilson expected to get first
team reps in practice this week, potentially putting him in
line to make his season debut and start on Sunday
against those Jets.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Here's head coach Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 17 (30:36):
Over the course of the week, I got comfortable with
his theability to display his health. Now it's about, you know,
knocking the rust off. He did some of that last week.
He is in consideration this week. We'll see where that
leads us.
Speaker 9 (30:48):
Man.
Speaker 17 (30:48):
Both guys at the quarterback position are scheduled to work
tomorrow and we'll just walk it day by day, all
geared toward putting ourselves in in best position to win
the football game.
Speaker 19 (30:59):
Remember over the off season it was Mike Tomlin saying
that Russell Wilson had the pole position and how imposition
to play.
Speaker 9 (31:06):
Coming up next.
Speaker 19 (31:06):
Jim Naggy joins us from the Senior Bowl, who's he
got an eye on. Never too early to talk about
the twenty twenty five NFL Draft. That's next on Good
Morning Football, Good Morning Football.
Speaker 7 (31:28):
The slogan for the Reese's Senior Bowl is the best
of the best, and the Senior Bowl will find you
no matter where you are, whether you're playing at Shepherd
University and you're Tyson Bagent, or you're playing at Alabama
or Texas, Jim Naggy and his guys at the Senior
Bowl will find you, invite you, and then have you
perform in front of thirty two NFL teams. He is
(31:49):
the face and the man behind the Rees's Senior Bowl.
Let's bring him onto the show.
Speaker 8 (31:54):
Executive director Jim Knack.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
Jim doing great, theater, doing great.
Speaker 7 (32:00):
Hey, look Jim, we love having you on the show,
and we bring you on a bunch because tomorrow, all right,
Thursday Night Football is going to feature two different rookie quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
And both of these rookie.
Speaker 7 (32:09):
Quarterbacks competed at the Senior Bowl as recent as January.
Speaker 8 (32:13):
Spencer Rattler and Bo Nicks.
Speaker 7 (32:15):
You had both of these guys for a week in Mobile.
Speaker 8 (32:18):
Give us a little bit of a preview or.
Speaker 7 (32:20):
Behind the scenes on what you saw unfiltered. A week
of Rattler and Knicks as players and as gentlemen and
young men.
Speaker 20 (32:26):
Yeah, I think the common denominator between both these guys
was that they faced a lot of adversity. You know,
when I worked for the Seahawks, coach Carroll was always
big on drilling down on what guys had overcome in
their lives, and you know, you focus on that with
other positions.
Speaker 21 (32:39):
I don't know if the league as a whole really.
Speaker 20 (32:42):
Was doing that at the quarterback position, and I felt
like during last year's draft process talking to teams, they
were doing that more. We've seen a lot of quarterbacks
in recent years kind of struggle. You know, they get
to the NFL. They never faced adversity before it finally
hits them in the NFL. They don't really know how
to deal with it. So these two guys, I mean,
Spencer Ratler gets beat out at Oklahoma by Caleb Williams
and has to go and kind of resurrect his career
(33:03):
at South care Line, and then bo Nicks went through
his struggles at Auburn and goes out to Oregon and
kind of, you know, reinvents himself. So this should be
a really fun one. You know, Spencer was throwing the
ball great in the first half. Saints defense couldn't stop
anyone last week, so he ended up having to throw
forty times, not a great formula for any rookie quarterback.
And then we've seen Bo, I mean, Bo's already ripped
off a three game winning streaks. So it's exciting for
(33:25):
us to have two rookies going up against each other
right down the road in New Orleans. So we'll see
how it goes. But we're excited for both those guys.
Speaker 6 (33:31):
And Jim.
Speaker 13 (33:32):
Let's go over to the Packers because that offense, it's
looking pretty good and a lot of those players are
actually Senior Bowl alons.
Speaker 20 (33:40):
Yeah, car, you know we're not We're not fans of
teams in the office here.
Speaker 21 (33:44):
We root more for players.
Speaker 20 (33:46):
But the Packers have drafted eighteen of our guys over
the last three years. They had eight out of last
year's game.
Speaker 21 (33:51):
So you look at that lineup.
Speaker 20 (33:52):
You look at Jordan Love here, I mean the guys
he's thrown to, Jordan Love, Jadeen Reed, Dontavian Wicks, Christian Watson,
Romeo Dobbs. All those guys were Senior Bowl guys, so
they're fun to watch. They're fun to watch we've got
a connection law those players. But I'll put you on
another guy, Peter, I'll put you on another rookie.
Speaker 21 (34:07):
I know you do your your top five's rookies. I
just saw that with it with our guy Ray Davis.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Evan Williams.
Speaker 21 (34:13):
Sign Williams.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Last week in the NFL.
Speaker 8 (34:19):
I had him last week.
Speaker 7 (34:20):
I know we showed a little love to Cooper, Dijon
or Dejane or whoever you say it out there in
the college football world.
Speaker 21 (34:27):
I knew yours. I knew you were on it.
Speaker 17 (34:29):
Peter.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Here's list has so many different layers to it. It's
very complicated, but it always is ultimately right. Let's talk
about who's going to be next, though, Jim, we're looking
at this weekend, this Saturday. Just tell us names that
we might be watching in college football this weekend that
can end up being in Mobile come February.
Speaker 20 (34:46):
Well, I think you just go to the biggest game
of the weekend, and it might be the biggest game
of the year so far, the Georgia Texas game. Look
at what's going on in Austin this weekend. You've got
You've got this football game, you got the Formula one race.
I don't know what hotel rooms are going for in
Austin right now. But you know, it's only week seven
in the NFL, but I think we're already seeing some
team that are looking forward. If you're a fan base,
you're probably already hoping your team's going to go get
(35:08):
a quarterback. And there's going to be two good ones
in this game, Carson Beck for Georgia and Quinn Ewrs
for Texas. You've got you know, Carson Beck is coming
off his best game of the year, probably the quickest
release in this year's draft class. And then you're going
against Quinn Yours, who probably is the strongest arm in
this year's draft class. So should be a fun, one,
big stage game. There's gonna be a ton of NFL
scouts at that.
Speaker 21 (35:28):
Game dialing into that one. So yeah, check that one out.
Speaker 20 (35:31):
If you're looking for two of the top quarterbacks in
this year's class, those are two of them.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Hey, Jim, So the Jets fan base over there trying
to get familiarized with their new interim head coach.
Speaker 6 (35:38):
You know, if Jeff Obrick aka.
Speaker 5 (35:40):
Brick, I had them before a short stand out there
in Seattle when I was out there, but last year.
You know, he was a head coach at the Senior Bowl.
So what can you tell us from your perspective him
as a coach?
Speaker 6 (35:50):
What can they expect from him?
Speaker 21 (35:51):
Yeah, I'll bring you back to twenty twenty two.
Speaker 20 (35:54):
We had the Jets staff down here with coach Saliv
Brick was on that staff obviously, and Dan cam on
the Lions where the other staff. And I was walking
by the meeting rooms one day and Brick was given
a pretty passionate speed to the team and I kind
of eavesdropped on it, and he was talking about his
time at.
Speaker 21 (36:08):
The Senior Bowl as a player.
Speaker 20 (36:09):
He was kind of an under the radar linebacker from
the University of Hawaii that nobody really knew about.
Speaker 21 (36:14):
And he just talked about the value of the game
and made him a third round.
Speaker 20 (36:18):
Draft pick, so you know, and just then I watched
him the rest of the week, I watch him with
the guys, and so, you know, fast forward to this year.
The league office always asks us, you know, do you
do you have someone in mind that you would like
to coach a team? And Brick was that guy this year,
and thank god we got him. I called Joe Douglas
the GM and he was fired up for Brick to
come down and do it. So, you know, I would
equate him to if Jets fans want to know, like
(36:38):
what he's all about.
Speaker 21 (36:39):
I think there's a real genuine quality to him.
Speaker 20 (36:41):
He's really connected with his players, so kind of Dan campbellish,
you know, spending some time around dying down heremobile similar guy,
former player, just a real dude, a real dude that
the players are going to play for.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
Well, it's not just players that the Senior Bowl produces,
it's coaches too. Listen, Jim, do is this like an
unboxing situation? Like if these guys get these hats and
that means they get invited to the game, Like, how
does this work?
Speaker 20 (37:05):
So yeah, Jamie, we are going on year five of
sending the hats out, so we're we've got zoom calls
with all our scouts next week for three days full
of zoom calls. They're pretty exhausted, but we will. We'll
be sending out invites here in about three weeks and
they come in a box. Shout out to New Era,
thank you for these great hats and the players. They'll
get these these hats in a box and that's the
(37:25):
official invite. So appreciate you guys having me back on
to UH to unveil this thing this year.
Speaker 4 (37:30):
That's cool, my ma'am, my man, Jimy the best.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
Thanks, thank you so much, dude, you're the best, Jamiere
the Man.
Speaker 7 (37:36):
Enjoy this weekend's games and we'll be watching all those
senior ball alum this week.
Speaker 21 (37:39):
I appreciate you.
Speaker 13 (37:40):
Guys, Appreciate the mayor of Mobile him Nage.
Speaker 9 (37:44):
We love them.
