Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Welcome to GMFP, everybody, Good morning. I'm Joo Costu Ruiz
here in La with Isaiah standback. Former wide receiver Matthew
Hatchett will only refer to him as Hatch. There you go,
and of course our base Pyle Brant is hanging out
in New York.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
What's going on?
Speaker 4 (00:26):
Com everything? This is the hell of a show today.
I like the vibe, I like the energy, I like
the group.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
We're going to talk about Saquon maybe ending as the
best running back of all time in his dreams.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
And his ambitions. We'll get into. It's a spicy take.
We love it.
Speaker 5 (00:39):
Let's start the show.
Speaker 6 (00:53):
Good mon, what mom?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
It's the middle of the week and the breakfast table
is already spicy. I'm out numbered since Kyle is in
New York. But Isaiah and are getting on me about
the whole witch phone. Which bubble is better? Is it
the green green bubbles at the blue bubble? Green'll say
brands because you know they're not paying up. But that's
where we are now. Green, Okay, whatever I'm gonna get
(01:18):
Kyle say, already know because I text him this morning
and I know it's a blue bubble, but that's a
whole other debate. We have plenty to talk about, lots
of quotes on quotes on quotes, guys, we'd love to
see it, so let's get into it. Aaron Rodgers took
part in the first day of Steelers mandatory mini camp yesterday.
In September, he will become the six QB since nineteen
fifty to debut with the starter for a new team
(01:41):
at age forty one or older. The four time MVP
is entering season twenty one, about to suit up for
his thirteen in four seasons. So, Aaron, why do you
want to keep playing?
Speaker 5 (01:53):
Man?
Speaker 7 (01:54):
I don't need it for my ego. I don't need
it to keep playing a lot of decisions that I've
made over my career in life from strictly the ego,
even if they turn out well, are always unfulfilling. But
the decisions made from the soul are usually pretty fulfilling.
So this was a decision that was best for my soul.
(02:16):
And I felt like being here with Coach T and
the guys they got here and the opportunity here was
the best for me.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
And I'm excited to be here.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
See now, Decisions from the soul.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
This is starting to sound like the Aaron Rodgers that
we know and oftentimes tolerate throughout the season. But you
know what, I feel like he meant that. I feel
like he meant that, Isaiah, Let's start with you. Decision
from the soul, best place to really search.
Speaker 8 (02:38):
Listen, we know that Aaron Rodgers is not afraid to
do some soul searching. But we also know that Aaron
Rodgers now has a Brittany with an eye in his life,
and whatever whoever this Brittany is, has created a new
version of Air Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
That I like.
Speaker 9 (02:51):
I like it.
Speaker 8 (02:52):
It feels like everything that comes from out of his
mouth right now is heart felt, right, it comes from
his soul right and that's what he's saying right now.
And I love the fact that he seems like he's.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Purpose driven right now.
Speaker 8 (03:02):
Not to say that he hasn't been in his career before,
but there's something different right now with Aaron Rodgers. When
he's speaking, there's a there's a there's an ambiance that
he has about him that he is so focused right
now about this time in his life that he wants
to close the chapter. I truly believe that you know
that one is not enough for him. He wants to
go out there and secure the bag. And I'm not
talking about the bag. He's talking about securing another ring. Okay,
(03:24):
he has one on his left hand, now he wants
to put one on.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
His right hand.
Speaker 8 (03:27):
But I think that he is purpose driven right now.
There's a good book called purpose Driven Life. But I
think he's been reading something that has him focused right now.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
And I think it's a good time for him to
be with Pittsburgh.
Speaker 10 (03:36):
Well, Pittsburgh Nation, welcome to the soul train, right, a
little show from back in the eighties that you guys
need to go check out there it is.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
But no, I'm happy for him. I'm like, when can
you just go out on your own terms?
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Right?
Speaker 10 (03:49):
All of those football players we want to play as
long as possible, want to play as good as long
as possible.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
And they're giving him an opportunity.
Speaker 10 (03:55):
I don't think it's any more that has to do
with Okay, well, it's about this money, and it's about
we'll have to leave leave a legacy.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Like I'm going to live my dream. I'm still a
kid at heart.
Speaker 10 (04:04):
I'm still that twenty two year old, you know, trying
to go out there and impress teammates. Like, that's what
it's about for him right now. And I think when
you're more at peace of that side of your of
the position of your profession, I think you're just having
a good life, you know, and why let somebody else
come in and say, hey, no, you need to be
done with it.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
You're too old to do this, Like, go have fun.
Speaker 10 (04:24):
He's enjoying himself, and you're when you can enjoy enjoy
yourself in this part of a stressful business, right then,
you're doing you're doing something.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
I'll tell you what, hatch.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
I got memories when I was a kid, I was
sitting on the carpet watching TV and I'd be watching
cartoons or something, and the cartoons would end and Soul
Train would come.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
On and Don Cornelia would walk out in that suit
and that microphone. I was like, wow, Yes, something that
changed to me. And I kind of like that.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Let him cook.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
I like Soul Trained. I love that you brought that up.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Don Cornelia has hosted that show for like nearly a
quarter century. He was doing that thing still in the nineties.
That was an amazing amazing institution. I could talk soul
tr all day quickly. I just hope I can, sometime
in my life get to a point where I can
make my decisions from the soul.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
That is a nice luxury to be able to.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Most people are taking jobs because you know, they got
to make their car payment, Like this is he is, like,
I don't need it.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
It's not for this, it's not for that. It's just
from the soul. I don't even really know what that means.
It's like when someone says I'm not religious, I'm spiritual.
I don't know what that means either. But I know
that Rogers seems content. He's wired differently, and he is
an incredible job. The fact that the Steelers, the bedrock
franchise of this entire league, want to bring him in
(05:42):
to be the starter unquestioned in his twenty first season
is an incredible, incredible accomplishment, no matter where it came from.
I don't know if any of us at the table
are making decisions from our soul, but none of us
are Rogers. Congratulations.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
I would love to be able to make a decision
not based on my mortgage.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Okay please? Yeah?
Speaker 10 (06:04):
It kind of goes back to a person who who
doesn't work out or who works out. Right, you have
a thirty year old person who says, I'm going to
go to the gym today.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
I don't have nothing, I don't have a not you personally.
Speaker 10 (06:15):
Sorry, I didn't even take a jab, but I did,
you know. But if you know again, you don't have
nothing coming up, you don't have a marathon to run,
you don't have you know, a competition to do, but
you still go to the gym, right because you love it.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Right.
Speaker 10 (06:27):
But then there's the people that says, oh, I have
to get ready, I have.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
To do it. He's not in that space.
Speaker 10 (06:32):
He's like, I get to go play football today. And
I think that's what he's loving it about the situation.
Speaker 8 (06:36):
For him, it seems like it's more than just about
him right now. Like I said, when I say like
the purpose driven aspect of it, there's a sense, right,
there's a sense, and we can.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Speculate to ask to what it is, but there's a
sense that it's not just about him anymore.
Speaker 8 (06:50):
He's not just chasing this for him and he matter
of fact, he mentioned it an in pest conference. This
is not self indulging. This is not about money, This
isn't about ego. Right, There's something else there that he's
that he's now doing it for it.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Maybe it's the lady in his life.
Speaker 8 (07:01):
I don't know, but he has a drive or about
him that is like, you know what, This might be
the most dangerous version of aar Rodgers that we've ever seen.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
I predicted an evolution by the time we got to
the start of the season.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
All right.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Moving along, Bengals first round pick Chamar Stewart is not
practicing during mandatory mini camp as the sides continue to
haggle over his rookie contract. Schmart, So what are you
doing to get ready for the upcoming season?
Speaker 11 (07:25):
I still go to meetings, I still study my playbook,
you know, taking on the right notes, and then when
Iver gets some free time, I'll go out to train
one hundred percent, right, So it should be a no
brainer in trades case, I think it should be a
no brainer too. I mean, he led seventeen and a
half Saxon for two years back to back. If I
was the GM or I was the owner, take all
my money. But I guess they don't offer you like that.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
His chest too, Yeah, okay, surrounded by reporters, but said
it with his chest. So how do you think he's
handling these contract talks? And it's so interesting, Hatch, because
every guy handles the difference.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yes, but here's the difference. He's young. That's the only
issue I'm having with it.
Speaker 10 (08:05):
There's just a protocol in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Right, it's the shield. They're going to protect the shield.
Speaker 10 (08:09):
The owners are always right, the coaches are always right.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
As a player, you have to just come in and
you have to fall in line.
Speaker 10 (08:15):
Only thing we care about if you're a veteran in
the locker room is you come in to put forth
one hundred percent effort, energy, passion, right, show us while
you should be here. When you start talking about money
or you know, stuff off the field early in your career, right,
that concerns us as a teammate is why you really hear.
So that's the only thing I'm seeing right now. Again,
he's young. There's been tons of contract negotiations with older players.
(08:39):
Right when it comes to a rookie, right, you kind
of start looking at him sideways a little bit when
you're a veteran in that locker room.
Speaker 8 (08:46):
Yeah, I'm still I'm a little bit speechless right now,
all I'm gonna say to Shamar right now is just.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Just quiet. Wow.
Speaker 8 (08:57):
It's one thing to come in and allow your agent
to do the work on your behalf. It's another thing
that when you're pren't right, just be there, just do
your thing right. But to be there and to have
responses like that, it says I'm a one I'm one
hundred percent right. It's a no brainer. Go ahead, you know,
cut the check. And oh yeah, by the way, by
(09:17):
the guy who's been here doing this work, Trey Henderson, Yeah,
it's a no brainer for him too.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Bro.
Speaker 8 (09:22):
You don't have any you don't have any any any
skins on the wall, like zero. College is college, and
you did an amazing job, and you position yourself to
have the opportunity to play.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
In the National Football League. But that is just that.
Speaker 8 (09:34):
It's an opportunity, right, it's not a it's not a birthright.
So take the opportunity, allow your agent to do his
agent duties right, negotiate, and your job when you make
that decision is to be quiet and then ball out
when you are speaking. Before you have done anything on
the on the field in the NFL to your point
over to Hatch. It's not well received by anybody, right,
(09:57):
So now your teammates are gonna look at you sideways,
And the last thing you want as a rookie, regardless
of where you're drafted, is putting your t teams in
a position to word, they're looking at you sideways and
they can't just trust the fact that you come in
and show your talents.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Yeah, this is not fun to talk about as you're
preaching the Isaiah And I totally get it and I
respect it.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
This one has felt off from the beginning.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
He gets drafted, and everybody's certainly pointing out is this
crazy low sack total kind of a weird moment with
Jamie Rdahl on stage where he was kind of angry,
and now this there's not been a lot of fun
and positivity. And this is a twenty one year old
guy who just realized this dream for a very good
team that needs pass rushing help like no other team
in the league.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Maybe I hate this, but.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
We're going to see more of this guys like these
guys as they continue to come out of the NFL
out of college rather as multimillionaires.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
We're going to see a lot of this stuff.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
We're gonna see guys talking about money, talking about agents,
talking about ownership, not signing their original contract. It's the
this is the future, this is the presence. I hope
he gets signed. We've seen this going back decades and decades.
When the Rooking gets drafted is miss seeing stuff. It
immediately is a bitter taste than the mouth of fans.
There's ill will that goes around. It can be cleared
(11:11):
up really fast if you show up and play well.
It's just not the way you want to start a career.
And I hate to say this because this is just pessimistic.
This this We're gonna say a lot more of this
over the next several years.
Speaker 10 (11:20):
Yeah, Unfortunately, I think it has a lot to do
with the college.
Speaker 9 (11:23):
Absolutely nil portion of this right.
Speaker 10 (11:25):
So again, when guys have a lot of money in
their pocket, they think that five hundred thousand dollars, that
million dollars whatever as a twenty one year old is
a lot of money, which it is, right, but it's
not that NFL fourth year free agent money. And that's
what you really want to get to. So when you're
talking about sh like, yeah, do your thing until you
get that sixty seventy eighty one hundred million dollar contract.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Then you can go ahead and start, you.
Speaker 10 (11:49):
Know, leveraging up and giving us your real opinion. But
until then, you know you're going to be really upset
and disappointed when you play two or three years in
the NFL and then you're out of there and you
didn't get that big bag later on.
Speaker 8 (12:02):
There's a difference between thinking things and allowing it to
come out of your mouth.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Act.
Speaker 8 (12:07):
We're not sitting here saying to not allow these intrusive
thoughts across your mind, right like a little scroll, okay,
like a little ticker on the bottom of the screen.
That's okay, it's gonna cross your mind. But the moment
you open your mouth, now you're responsible for it, and
you're gonna have to live by it. You're gonna stand
on it ten toes down, and now you have placed
a target on your back and a responsibility that you may.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Or may not be able to match.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
The issue is, in order to continue to get those
brand deals that nil money, you have to come into
the league and you got to ball out. You got
to stay relevant. So to your point, earn it. This
is an earn it type of league. At every turn,
and I think that he will see his hey rookie
moment sooner than he might expect.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
All right.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
As for the other team in Ohio, Cleveland rewarded start
ed rusher Miles Garrett with a four year, one hundred
and sixty million dollar contract extension. Talk about earn it.
That was earlier this offseason. So he's feeling good about that.
And you already know he was asked about Aaron Rodgers
joining officially that Pittsburgh crew.
Speaker 11 (13:04):
I mean, I look forward to on my best season
for sure, and I think it's chinning that way. It's
feen really goodtt Rodgrews coming into.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
The ac mart.
Speaker 5 (13:13):
I think it's a good opportunity to put him in
the graveyard.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Okay, let's clarify here before everybody goes crazy. A few
years back, Miles posted on Halloween a picture of tombstones
of all the qbs he sacked over his illustrious career.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
So that's what he means, my graveyard. But what do
you think of his comments?
Speaker 10 (13:29):
As I love it, I love it again, this is
good trash talk to just you know again, I guess
bullet bullet board material look at bull material right for
the game the week of But again, he's.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Going to get him anyway.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
You know he can said or not saying.
Speaker 10 (13:44):
This is Miles Garrett right, top three pass rushers in
the game right now by far. Again, he's going to
have success versus that.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
Team week in and week out. He's gonna have success
seventeen weeks in a row. So I don't have a
promise him saying it at all. Man. I love it.
I love it.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (13:58):
We know that Cleveland is known for being the dog
pound by that gay, Miles Garrett is one dog that
I don't want catch him upon.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
No, this is all fun and games, man.
Speaker 8 (14:08):
These are two veteran guys that are going to talk
smack back and forth. They both probably have a high
regard for each other. I know Miles Garrett has a
high regard for Aaron Rodgers. Your job and the thing
that you dream about as the defensive end is sacking quarterbacks.
So if you have an opportunity to go out there
and sack arguably one of the best quarterbacks ever played
a game, of course you're gonna talk a little smack,
especially when you have the years and stripes underneath your
(14:30):
belt to back it up.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
It's crazy that Miles Garrett does this.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
I mean, it's a really crazy thing, and he kind
of gets a pass from the media and from the
league that he can just because he's that because normally
you can't have a pass rusher say well, I'm gonna
get him.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
I'm gonna get there. Everyone to be like, oh ah,
that that shots fired.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Not only is he saying I'm gonna get him, Miles
Garrett in this era of the NFL has a running
skit where the quarterbacks are dead in his yard and
they're buried like that's an a incredible thing. That's something
from the seventies that someone would have done, like Miles
Garrett is doing it in twenty twenty five, and it's
just like, well, hey, look at him. He's probably right,
(15:13):
and why not.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
It's fun, it's Halloween.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
It's such a throwback that it otherwise would be looked
at in such bad taste. But none, he says it.
We all kind of laugh. Incidentally, he has not sacked
Aaron Rodgers. He sacked thirty one quarterbacks in the league.
He's only played Rogers once and it was almost four
years ago.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Did not sack him in that game.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
So if you're the guy who has like your own
cemetery in your yard of all the great quarterbacks of
your era. It's kind of a big missing piece. But
we'll see on Halloween if he's got it there. In
the meantime, it's just if anyone thinks, like, man, I
missed the.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
Old school of football.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
It's not like it was to watch Miles Garrett and
listen to what he says, because for some reason he
just gets to have a pass.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
He's grandfather didn't go for it. Yeah, yeah, this is it.
Speaker 10 (15:55):
I mean, it's the Brett Fahr straight hand relationship off
the field. But on the field, you know they're going
to go at it. There're two veterans, they know each other.
It's gonna be fun, entertaining for the week. And again,
I just think that what Miles Garrett is doing is
he's headed to the Hall of Fame. A Rod's headed
to the Hall of Fame. Get a jersey swap after
the game. You two right, it'll be great. But again,
this makes for good TV.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Also, he's no dummy.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
He knew the timing of this.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
He's like, we're gonna do it on Halloween specifically, so
no one can say a thing about me and I
got the stats to back it up. Now, we got
to start that tally. See when it happens this season?
Speaker 4 (16:28):
Circling that game?
Speaker 3 (16:28):
All right?
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Coming up, we're playing around of buying or keep trying.
We'll say, go on, end his career as one of
the best running backs of all time. We'll get into it, Kyle.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Thus the Rams they're holding mini camp. Okay, that's cool,
everybody does. They're holding mini camp in Hawaii.
Speaker 9 (16:45):
Look at this ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Sean McVay is gonna get in here and talk to us.
How did McVay pull this? How did he land the
plane on this? That we're going to Hawaii?
Speaker 4 (16:54):
La is not nice enough? Coach, Sean McVay is joining
us shortly. Hold on, good mom.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Over two thirds of the league is in mini caamp
right now, So it's sounds like a good time to
do a little buying or keep trying, or going to
start with say quads, we've been it's a very quad
dominant show today, say Can Barkley. Is that Eagles mini
camp looking to build off a storybook season? The mat
and cover model said, he feels like he's just entering
his prime and he's got a lot of motivation to
(17:31):
keep going.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
The thing that drives me is the same thing that
has been driven me since I was a little kid,
and I've said it since I got into a league,
and I don't meet it in a hurricane way. I'm
gonna be the best running backs ever play, or at
least one of the best running backs ever play. I
don't think there's actually a way you can prove who's
the best. But that's always been my motivation. And I
(17:56):
feel like God's blessed me with a unique ability and
put me through a lot of adversity, and that's still
gonna be my mindset. So the love of the game,
wanting to win and wanting to compete and wanting to
be great. So it's gonna push me no matter if
we win for Super Bowls.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
I honestly cannot refute anything that he's had. I mean,
he's already in that conversation, I would think. So when
Barkley does call it our career, are you buying Isaiah
or saying keep trying that he will continue to be
in that conversation for best running back in NFL history.
Speaker 8 (18:26):
Well, I'm gonna concur with what you just said. I
can't dispute or refute anything that he just said. I
think that he has been blessed with unique abilities, So
I am going to buy the fact that he will
be in that conversation, barring getting injuries. I think that
he is on pace, on track. I think he's a
over just over seven thousand yards right now. You start
thinking about some of the best that ever do it
emmss Smith, you know Walter Payton, Frank Gordy's guys, you
(18:49):
know Barry Sanders, Adrian Peterson, these guys are all you
know pretty much fifteen thousand yards and up.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
I think he'll be there at some point.
Speaker 8 (18:55):
In time because he is one of the most gifted
talents that we've ever seen.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
At that position.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Ooh, I just I love say Kwan.
Speaker 10 (19:04):
Right when we're talking about best ever, you're talking about
guys who play years, guys who are healthy for years.
The numbers are great, right, twenty five hundred and one
year is great?
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Will he ever do that again? The odds are not right.
Speaker 10 (19:18):
So if you take that twenty five hundred out and
he's less than five thousand for six years, that he's
not trending to be a Hall of Fame running back, right,
I can't put him in the conversation with the Barry
Sanders and a Walter Payton and a Marshall Falk. That's
different because that talks about longevity. You know, it's like, yes,
it was great for the year, like we say one
(19:39):
year total to who we put in there, right, he's
in there and to be the Eric Dickersons of the
world and all that. But when you're talking about a career,
I can't put him in that today.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
If he does, it's not apples So what the league
was in Barry Sanders hime, which.
Speaker 10 (19:53):
Is even helps more for the older guys, the Barrys
and the Waters because right now he's getting more opportunities
and they're bigger opportunities, right, they're more national televised games.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
He's a bigger star. It's bigger game, right, there's more games.
Speaker 10 (20:09):
So they're saying, well, because of that, he's in the
in the conversation, Like, no, he can't be in the
conversation until you're healthy and you play as this many
games he put up these numbers versus these defenses for
a longer period of time.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
I just can't get that to him today.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
After seven years, Saquon is he's saying this as a goal,
which is which I love.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
That's fine.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
He should say that because he he has the talent
and ability to be the best ever.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
There's only a few people who can ever say it.
He does have the talent for it.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Of course, there's a lot of work to be done,
and you know, he's already had one major injury. He's
missed some games here, He's missed some games here, he
missed nearly an entire season. I look at a comp
outside of football for Saquon. This is how right now
I see Saquon. I see him as Griffy. I see
him as the guy you look at You're like, oh
my god.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
He is talented.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
He's like the most beautiful, most talented athlete I've ever
seen in this sport. Now, if you know Griffy, he
had a lot of injury issues and then he started
bouncing around teams and he is looked at as one
of the most talented, one of the most fun to
watch players ever in baseball. But I don't think anyone's
calling Ken Griffy the goat.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
It's a great goal.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
I love that Saquan says this, but it's like to
say the greatest ever I'm going to touch on what
you guys are saying. There are so many players to
run down and surpass. My personal rushmore of my lifetime
is Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Ladanian, Tomlinson, and Marshall Falk.
Ladanian is another good comp for Saquon. Ladanian does not
get goat conversation about him. His career was absurd, unbelievably
(21:36):
productive and versatile and successful. But it's always like Barry
em Jim Brown, Walter Payton, and that's fine. I think
lt is secure with that. I just have to bring
up one more element and don't bring it up yet.
This is a personal thing, and you guys just got
to see this becau. It's one of my favorite things.
I'm hanging out of this event for the network like
maybe four years ago, and I played running back at
a very modest level growing up, and it's my favorite position.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
And I worship these guys.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
I see these five guys having a group conversation and
I do something I never do, which is, guys, I'm sorry,
is there any way.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
I could take a picture with you? Look at this picture?
Speaker 1 (22:06):
Someone is I'm gonna put this in my will. Come on,
I'm so proud of this photograph.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
You have LT.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Hall of Famer, TD Hall of Famer, Saquon, I think
future Hall of Famer. Then there's me nineteen ninety five
Illinois States, and then by Sanders Hall of Famer. So
one of those things does not like the others. But
I said it at the time, and I'll close with this.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
This is like four years ago.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
I tweet this picture out and I say myself with
three Hall of Famers and one future Hall of Famer,
and I got destroyed by every NFL fan.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
Oh saquad, how do you put him in the Hall
of Fame? No way, no way, he doesn't have it.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Here we are years later, and if he just keeps
doing what he's doing, he's running all the way to
can he will be one of the all time greats,
greatest ever.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
I don't know. I'm not going to say I doubt it.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
It's just very, very difficult, but I love that he
wants to get there himself.
Speaker 10 (22:55):
I must say, you look the part in that picture though,
I mean, he looks like one of those guys.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
I mean, right, you're big enough to show.
Speaker 12 (23:05):
Okay, I tell this imagine.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
Of course, you gotta have your act together to be
Honorable Mentioned nineteen ninety five All state of Illinois, Texas,
not Florida, not Pennsylvania, Illinois honorable.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
KB fantastic, all right love turn down to South Florida
Miami Gardens to be exact, my stomping grounds. The Dolphins
are looking to rebound after an eight and nine season
to a tongue of Biloa debuted a new look and
he's kind of like a new vibe if you will,
that he's feeling around the team to take a listen.
Speaker 13 (23:42):
You know, I think there is a culture shift. I
mean I feel it just as much as everyone that's
been here since I've I've gotten into the league. We
always hear about man, yeah, oh culture shift. You guys
have a change of this. You guys are doing this
always optimistic, but I really do feel in my heart
that this is a change of scenery for our guys
in the locker room. And then it also transitions our
(24:04):
coaches as well, because we get opportunities to lead. And
it's not as much the coaches as it is the players.
I would say this year.
Speaker 10 (24:12):
You know what, it looks like Cam Jordan into a swap.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Wigs got it, Let's.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
Work just what I'm gonna bring up Jackson back in
the day. This is summer, great season. If you know,
you know he doesn't want to have to.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Worry about his hair.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
But the culture shifts conversation. I'm going to hold my
thoughts until the end because y'all know I'm a fenceman.
But are you buying that they are on track to
win their first playoff game in twenty five years? How
do I know the stats so well?
Speaker 4 (24:42):
Isaiah?
Speaker 8 (24:43):
I want to say yes because I am a fan
of the Dolphins and what they have been putting together,
But I have to say that I am not buying
this one. I'm gonna keep trying simply because there hasn't
been enough body of work to show that they can
protect the quarterback and keep him healthy.
Speaker 4 (24:58):
This team goes as a quarterback goes.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
If this the.
Speaker 8 (25:00):
Quarterback is healthy, these guys are absolutely a menace and
they're hard to deal with that.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
These guys can win games left right because they're just
so electric. If he's not.
Speaker 8 (25:08):
Healthy and somehow, some way he has to step up
to the sideline, then this team goes downhill quickly.
Speaker 10 (25:13):
Yeah, it's not happenings. There's too many good teams in
the AFC right now, Right, you have your Chiefs, you
have your Bills, you have the Ravens, you have the Chargers,
now you even have the Steelers. Right.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
It's like you can't.
Speaker 9 (25:27):
Just say, hey, the culture is great this year.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
It's June July.
Speaker 10 (25:31):
Everybody has the same goals, everybody has the same aspirations
right now as a team, Like, we understand that. So
I'm sorry I have to disappoint you Dolphin fans, but
it just.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Doesn't seem like it's going to happen this year.
Speaker 10 (25:41):
There's just not enough on the roster right now to
really make a push for Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
That's our baseline.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Patch Yeah, yeah, well I like I like that. Tua
does this whole kind of rant making fun of the
term culture shift, and he's like, but we're having a
culture shift like that, And I get it. It's what
I don't get is exactly where it's coming from. You
have the same coach, you have most of the same players, quarterback,
everything's going on.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
But I feel like.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
The shift, and this is positive for the Dolphins. The
shift is that there's very little heat on the Dolphins
right now. And that's that's the shift because the last
couple of years, it's Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
They're the next big thing.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
They score seventy points in a game that's gone, and
I think that's good. Now everyone's saying the Patriots have next,
or the Jets are serious now. It's so I actually
like them where the Dolphins are this year because they
are very talented and they are very good.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
But no one's talking about him.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
That guy the balloom is off the rose.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
We get it. He's quirky and wear's cool sunglasses.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
And I think nationally everyone's like, eh, Mike McDaniel, yesterday's
news Tyreek. Maybe he's in the back half of his
career now too. Can't count on all the things that
we're being triumphed about. The Dolphins the last couple of
years are now being passed on to some of their competitors,
and I think that is a good thing from the Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
Don't be a front runner.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
It's the team we tune in in this fall and
we're like, Wow, Dolphins are five and two.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
They're playing good ball, and I think that's a good
spot for them.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
One hundred percent. Agree with you, Kyle all the way.
Stay under the radar, But I don't want a culture
shift I don't want new vibes. I want stability, I
want identity, and I want focus from Miami this year.
Welcome back everybody. Running Back JK. Dobbins had one of
his better games last season with the Chargers when they
visited Mile High, putting up a season high and carries.
(27:22):
He hopes that success will continue in twenty twenty five,
and A Film Network insiders Ian Rappaport and Tom Tellisero
both reporting Gobbins signing a one year deal worth a
little more than five MILLI with the Broncos. In just
thirteen games in his loan season with the Chargers, Dobbins
put up a career high nine hundred and six yards
to go along with nine tuddies. Meanwhile, Colts quarterback Anthony
(27:44):
Richardson was in Los Angeles recently to get a second
opinion on his injured shoulder. Head coach Shane Steiken says
there is currently no timetable for a return to the
field for Richardson, and this past weekend, the Dothan, Alabama
Regional took place, hosting fifty five teams. Utt South Tampa
dominated both the TU Girls and twelve YOU Girls division
(28:06):
and will attend the Summer Championships. Come out now to
find a league near you, visit NFL flag dot com.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
I could not go up against.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
These kids breaking angles coming up next to what we
joined by RAMS head coach Sean McVay as his team
gets set to head to Maui for camp and we
pitch to go with them, say over that.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
Good morning football. All right. Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Winning the Super Bowl is pretty impressive, but I think
somehow Sean mcvay's greatest accomplishment was getting RAMS camp to
go to.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
Brigain, Hawaii. Let's get him in here.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
The best coach in the NFL just asked me, Sean
McVay is there.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
Let's go, Babby, how are we doing here?
Speaker 9 (28:56):
Big showy? That is you guys always make me feel good.
It's been too long. It's good to see you guys again, agreed, coach.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Great to see you, which bringing the juice at six
forty am Pacific. But I got to know how the
hell did you pull this off? Because coach, I'm thinking
you got teams droughout the regular season, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Chicago,
They're freezing their ass off. You're sitting there in LA
all year, just sitting pretty La.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
Wasn't warming off. You got to go to Maui. Now,
tell us how this happened.
Speaker 9 (29:24):
Yeah, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 14 (29:25):
It's actually a cool thing because the partnership between you know,
our community and the Maui community, especially going through some
of the things that they've gone through with the fires,
and a chance to be able to have.
Speaker 9 (29:36):
Some brand reach.
Speaker 14 (29:37):
But I think more than anything could go there use
the platform for the right reasons. I know a lot
of people are excited about being able to see our
players have some of those interactions, and it'll get us
a chance to be able to connect. Let's not kid ourselves.
We're not getting anything football wise done, but it'll be
to be able to connect and you know, so we'll
(29:57):
enjoy it and then we look forward to it next week.
Speaker 8 (30:00):
Man, coach, how did you break the news to the team?
Speaker 4 (30:03):
And you have to tell us what the reaction whenever
they heard about it.
Speaker 9 (30:06):
You know, I think they were excited about it. The
cool thing about it is is they'll be.
Speaker 14 (30:09):
Able to bring their families, so anybody that's in the
immediate household, you know, we're gonna get a chance to
see a lot of people and for some different reasons.
We got to experience that when we went to Arizona
for the playoffs, but this will be a much better
reason where we're going for a choice, to be able
to go, spend some time together, be able to relax
and kind of cap off the off season the right way.
(30:30):
And it's been a good it's been a good off season.
Speaker 9 (30:32):
This will be fun next.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Week, coach.
Speaker 10 (30:34):
So, I saw some video of course of DeVante Adams,
you know, coaching up Pook on the side. Right How
has he been in like the meetings in the film
room and stuff like that for the team right now.
Speaker 14 (30:43):
He's such a sun you know when you watch him
from Afar, just the way he's always moved and the
way he's carried himself. There's a ton of respect. You
could see how smart he was by the way he
played the game. But then you get to know the
human being, what a family man he is, his willingness
to share, you know, I've really enjoyed watching him just
organically and authentically get to.
Speaker 9 (31:03):
Know the teammates.
Speaker 14 (31:04):
You know, I was even talking about it yesterday watching
he and Matthew, developer Tory c him and Puka. But
he's just elevated our group. He's got just a great
energy every single day. And man, this guy is so sharp,
so smart, and he is the leverage killer. I mean,
he just finds ways to work edges and make plays
and he sure looks good. And I'm really I feel
(31:25):
really grateful to be able to work with them.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
You know, Coach, we've been talking about family since before
we got on air, when you jumped on with us
just a few minutes ago. But Matthew Stafford's wife, Kelly
She recently said on her podcast at the thirty seven
year old is struggling to connect to some of his
younger teammates. As a fellow elder millennial, I can see
that there's sometimes a little bit of a disconnect, but
I feel like you have no issues with that just
(31:47):
by your personality. What kind of advice are you giving
your QB to just get in with the with gen Z?
Is it alpha now too god young?
Speaker 14 (31:54):
I don't know what it is, but I think one
of the coolest things about Matthew is and Jay, he
just does such a great job of connecting authentically. I
referenced it before, but I've heard it said about him.
You know, he's got this way where you know he's
the man, but he's also able to relate and authentically
connect with all the people that.
Speaker 9 (32:11):
Are in the room with him.
Speaker 14 (32:12):
And you can see the reverence and respect his teammates
out for him.
Speaker 9 (32:15):
But man, he's so relatable. These guys love him, you know.
Speaker 14 (32:18):
I think the one thing that really resonates with his
teammates is he loves this game.
Speaker 9 (32:23):
He enjoys it.
Speaker 14 (32:23):
You're not playing for seventeen years if you don't love
this stuff. It's hard work, but it's always worth it.
But man, he just elevates everybody. I'm so glad that
we got that stuff worked out with him, and I
feel like he and I are closer than ever, And
I feel like he's influencing and affecting his teammates better
than ever by just being himself.
Speaker 8 (32:41):
Oh, you're talking about affecting and talking about impact coach.
There's a lot of great coaches in this league.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
Hey, you got the.
Speaker 8 (32:46):
Hardballs, you got the Tomlins, you got the Andy Reives,
and you have yourself. The difference is the other coaches
did not find their way to give them their name
dropped on a new song by Lil Wayne. You have
to tell us more about that and how do you
make you How do that make you feel?
Speaker 9 (33:00):
Man? I will tell you this. I was like, that
is dope. I thought, hey, so you you love this?
Speaker 14 (33:07):
So I got a bunch of text from more guys,
you know, when the album dropped last week, and so
I lean over and you know, my wife is the best.
She's so supportive, but she always keeps me humble. I said, Hey, Ben,
I said, I think Wayne made a reference to us
in his new album.
Speaker 9 (33:21):
She's like, he's talking about another mcbaby.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
So yeah, yeah, it's the incllective family and it's always
about you guys on the top of a family coach.
I was looking at these quotes from Devontae.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
Adams and they speak to you so much.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Davante comes in and says, everybody here in the facility
is in a good mood. There's no dark cloud. It's
just about ball. There's no bs going on. What's it
like to hear this guy say this new in town?
Speaker 14 (33:57):
Well that that means everything, because you what you want
to do is and it's the off season, different things
like that. But I love this guy, and we work
as hard as we possibly can, Kyle, to create an
atmosphere and environment where guys feel that way, and it
is about the collective. I mean, you become the company
you keep when you have players like Davonte and all
these other great teammates or guys we've mentioned, or great
(34:18):
coaching staff. It's like, you know, our goal as coaches
is make sure when these guys leave the building they're.
Speaker 9 (34:23):
Excited about coming back the next day.
Speaker 14 (34:25):
And how can we, you know, push the standard, have
high standards for the expectations, but also an enjoyment with
a sense of urgency. And if we're able to kind
of find that balance, you know, that's what we're hunting.
Speaker 9 (34:36):
Up every day. It means everything to hear him say that, Kyle.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
It was really cool and it's very flattering everything you're
doing there. You guys are so fun to watch because
of a lot of that. I think it really translates
through the TV to that point. I absolutely love this
Jared Verse dude, like we were early on Jared Verse.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
We love what he brings. The way he will.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Walk into Philadelphia and not give a bleep what anybody says,
The way he will challenge Aaron Donald to some sort
of workout competition.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
What is the state of the nation? With Verse right now, Coach, I.
Speaker 9 (35:05):
Love this guy too.
Speaker 14 (35:06):
But he's but that's who he is consistently, and he
brings it.
Speaker 9 (35:10):
He's not afraid to talk.
Speaker 14 (35:12):
He's got an edge and an energy to him that
I think is absolutely necessary.
Speaker 9 (35:16):
But he's also got the appropriate humility.
Speaker 14 (35:19):
I enjoyed getting a FaceTime last week from Aaron Donald
at his house. He's, you know, he's got his shirt off, Jack,
you can see who's just finishing a workout. He pants
to the corner and versus in the corner, just shaking
his head like, what the hell was I thinking coming
over and challenging him.
Speaker 9 (35:34):
But he accepted the challenge.
Speaker 14 (35:36):
He said, I'm done challenging legends though, so but I
love the guy man.
Speaker 9 (35:40):
I'm right there with you, Kyle. This dude is uh.
Speaker 14 (35:42):
He's a special human and he's going to be a
special player for a long time if he continues to
work the way he does.
Speaker 10 (35:48):
Nice coach, So, last season, you guys started off one
and four right, end up winning the NFC West Right.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
This year, what's one thing you're focused on.
Speaker 10 (35:55):
So you guys don't have have to dig yourself out
of a one and four a hole?
Speaker 14 (35:59):
Yeah, I think for us, you know, you just want
to stack good days. You know, I think it's been
a good offseason. There's all so much you can get
done just based on some of the parameters at which
we can practice. But when we get a chance to
get through the acclamation period, you put the pads on.
You keep coming together as a team, you start to
establish the identity and style of play, and then you
really pray that you stay healthy. You know, last year
(36:20):
we were really banged up going into the season. We
got decimated in that first game against Detroit.
Speaker 9 (36:25):
No excuses, but I think it's just.
Speaker 14 (36:27):
Stacking good days. You hope that you do everything in
your power to stay healthy. And then whenever we do
have the storms that are inevitable, let's handle them the
right way because that'll be a separator for us.
Speaker 9 (36:37):
But we do want to be able to start fast.
Speaker 14 (36:40):
But ultimately I want to see our guys just be
be able to respond to the inevitable adversity that's that's
going to be you know, coming into our you know
it's going to be there in some form or.
Speaker 9 (36:49):
Fashion, and how we handle it's usually the separator.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yeah, And the adversity that this team has had to face,
especially over that last year. Coach, you mentioned that earlier.
I was there for that game that got moved to
a Monday night to Arizona, And I love that the
cycle has sort of come full circle now and you
got going to Hawaii and really really just commiserating with
another community that has been through the same thing. So
let's get back to Hawaii for a second, because I
want to give you three things that are synonymous, if
(37:14):
you will, with the fiftieth state and Coach, I feel
indulge me and just rank them three to one. You're
easy surfing, my ties and Luau's. Wh are those ranked
for you?
Speaker 9 (37:25):
Yeah? I mean I can appreciate the surfing that's last.
For me.
Speaker 14 (37:28):
I'd probably go my ties one to be able to
find my personality in an appetite and.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
Go lou out too fantastic. I love that.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
I think I last saw you on a beach that Sean.
I think it was on TMZ somewhere. Once you got
really famous, editing changes everything.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
Man.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
When you go on vacation, they start photographing and then
the beach right.
Speaker 9 (37:48):
Oh you know what, we stay away from those places.
They don't want that.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
All right, Listen, Sean, I know you got to go
one more thing. We're just gonna pull from the headlines,
and Aaron Rodgers is a Steeler. It's crazy, it's reality.
It's happening right now. There was a lot of talk
in the off season that Rogers might be interested in
becoming a Ram if there was interest and availability there.
What went down in the off season, What was true
and not true about Rogers and the Rams.
Speaker 14 (38:15):
Yeah, I think that our first priority, which was consistently communicated,
was Hey, let's work something out with Matthew, and we
were very fortunate that it worked out that way. If
that wasn't able to occur, then that was definitely conversations.
Speaker 9 (38:29):
And a possibility for us.
Speaker 14 (38:31):
I have a ton of respect for the body of work,
and I've gotten to know Aaron and really enjoy the
conversations and just the approach, the way that he thinks
about the game and in life, and so that was
a possibility. But our first priority was always to be
able to get Matthew back. And what I do feel
really fortunate about Kyle is I think that we're closer
(38:51):
than ever and I think sometimes when you're able to
have real conversations, I think you can appreciate the love
that's been built up, but also the ability to be
honest with one another. And I'm really glad that worked out.
And shoot, I wish I know that there's a lot
of people on Pittsburgh that are really excited that that's
finally come to fruition And uh, you know I I'm
a big fan of his.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Well, Coach, maybe you'll see him in the super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (39:13):
In the meantime, you will see the Rams in Hawaii
doing incredible work and relations. If you ever lived in California,
Hawaii almost feels like a neighbor and I know the
Rams organization.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
Feels that way. Coach. We love you.
Speaker 1 (39:24):
We're playing the music. Aloha means goodbye. Thank you so
much for coming on, Mamma Hollow.
Speaker 9 (39:29):
Great to see you, guys, appreciate having me on and
jo with me.
Speaker 8 (39:33):
God late, I've been play this old Randy and Ship football.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
That was one of the greatest catches Randy Boss.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
Has ever made. Don't stop giving me that ball. We
expected we in each week, week in and week out.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
We love a Randy woman. And you've said he was
one of your favorite teammates ever, especially when he round
my guy.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
Yeah, what'd you pick up?
Speaker 3 (39:56):
Let's see it.
Speaker 10 (39:57):
You know what, I taught him a lot, and he
taught me a little bit too, So no one thing
again he did naturally Again, like I said, be for
I think.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
He was the best at adjusting to the ball in
the air.
Speaker 12 (40:07):
Right, So talking about the deep ball, right and what
we were talking about. But again right, if the dB
right was on this side, the receivers on this there
on this side, right, most receivers will just fade away
to the ball and the dB phades with it and
the dB knocks it down right bam by the boom,
by the bee.
Speaker 10 (40:27):
But he mastered, or I guess naturally he could do. Right,
he would stay on there straight line and he would
catch the ball.
Speaker 9 (40:37):
To the He would catch the.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
Ball to the outside. We got we got his TV.
We can edit that.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
We can edit that, right, TV.
Speaker 12 (40:47):
Wed that you the dB here right and catch it
to the outside and then stays on the straight lines.
Speaker 4 (40:54):
That's kind of what he did.
Speaker 10 (40:55):
Great and what a lot of the good receivers still
came and doing that.
Speaker 8 (40:59):
And I can attest to that because I had an
opportunity to play with mass when I was out in
New England, right, Tom Brady, and and I can tell
you that holding the red line is what they call it, right,
there's a five yard window between that between the numbers
and the sideline, and you try to get it at
the end of the day. Fade away jump shot all
day long.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
Yeah, Hatch, you absolutely crushed it.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
The last two days.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Kyle, keeping up steady as always all the way from
New York. We'll be back with more JMFP tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
All right, let's
Speaker 2 (41:26):
Pilate's today because y'all have me out here and running
with me.
