Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now Move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
What's up, everybody?

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Welcome to Move the Sticks, DJ, Buck with you. Rhett
is a little under the weather, Buck, so no rhet today,
but he'll be back next week.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
How are you doing, man, man, I'm good, I'm good.
What's going on with you? How you doing? I'm no
good man. We got a lot to get to.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
We're gonna hit on kind of a longer episode on
this one, so instead of split this into two episodes,
it'll just be one long extended episode, so you have
to wait till Thursday for the next episode to pop up.
But we have a lot to get to, including an
incredible Monday night game as well as we'll hit on
the games we missed from yesterday's discussion with Baldi. If
you missed that, I encourage you to go back and

(00:43):
listen to that. Monday episode is always great there with
Baldi as we break things down.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
But the way we're.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Going to start this thing, Buck is hot off the press.
Jackson Dart starting a quarterback for the New York Fighting
Football Giants.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
It took us three games to get this, yep. It
just makes you wonder why they didn't do it from
the jump. If you felt like he was going me
to start in quarterback, why did not I give him
all the reps in training camp, preseason, get them ready,
let him learn from the mistakes that he has early,
and hopefully by midseason he finds a bit of a groove,
finds a rhythm, and he plays better.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
But now was the time they had to do something.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
The offense was so stagnant, the still against Kansea Chiefs
Russ it played poorly in two of the three games.
Now that we know that the Cowboys defense is bad,
I think it kind of puts his performance in perspective.
And it's Jackson Dart's time, and so if you're Brian,
Dave Wall, Joe Shane, everybody, all efforts go into helping
Jackson Dart be successful.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Right out the gate.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah, I was thinking of like the analogy when you
have a car that's having some trouble and you're like,
this is it final straw? It just keeps, you know,
it keeps having issues. I'm done with it, I'm selling it,
and then all of a sudden you go on this
nice long drive and it's nice and smooth and it
works fine, and you're like, oh, you know, maybe this
car is okay. It's like, no, your car just to
the Dallas Cowboy Highway. Okay. Now, now, now you're getting

(02:03):
back to the way things kind of were, and it's
staring you right in the face. I don't think they
could ignore it.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Now.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
We laid this out before the season started. There's no
easy spot to insert Jackson Dart into the lineup. And
I'll be there for the game next week because Chargers
are coming to town and a Jesse min Or defense
that's as good as any you know, was number one
in the league last year in terms of yards allowed,
and it's gonna They're gonna play suffocating defense on the
back end with their secondary. So it's not going to

(02:31):
be an easy chore. But I don't think that the
Giants had a choice. And I'm curious to see more
than anything else in terms of how they use him.
How much did they run him. I'm curious to see
how much they're gonna run him.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Look, but I think if you're going to play him,
I think you have to play him like he played
at Ole Miss, a little bit of running some of
the RPOs, some of the other things that they did
during the preseason. I wouldn't make him the primary runner,
but I would think or the eight carries are reasonable
for what he does and how it unlocks the rest

(03:04):
of his game.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Now you look out there and you've got Jackson Dart,
cam Skataboo. You look on the defensive side with Abdul
Carter like this is. You know, if you're Joe Shane,
the general manager, friend of ours, like this is. You know,
this is going to kind of determine the future for
both the head coach and the general manager. How this
rookie class cannot just play against the charters in this game.

(03:26):
But can they get better throughout the season. Can they
show enough promise they're like, hey, we got something, we
got something to build here.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah, I mean this is it. So I mean now
that you pull, you've broken the glass.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah, you got fourteen games to kind of figure it out,
and the show ownership that look, you not only have
a plan for Jackson Dart, but you can develop him
and get him to a point where next year you
can see dramatic improvement on horizon for the Jazz offensively.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
And with the QB one playing a major role as
a sophomore.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
I'm gonna give you my notes real quick on Jackson
Dart coming out and then tell me if this informs
anything that they should do.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Buck with how they utilize him, what they do.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
So Jackson Dart just to go back, was six to
two and a quarter two hundred and twenty three pounds.
Sturdy guy. He uh you know he was. I had
to miss my third quarterback in that draft. But in
this last draft. But excellent athlete. Some quick hitters, RPOs
a lot of seams and verticals, you know, over the
top throws. There's times where his eyes can get a

(04:31):
little ahead of his feet at times. Ultra ultra competitive runner.
But the RPO aspect of that, to me would be
something I think they should probably latch onto.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
I think this should be a big part of the game.
It's a big part of his game. He does it
really well.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Quick hands, quick release, athletic enough to run the ball
on some of those things. But he is so comfortable
doing this. He did this and oh miss his offense
for years and years on end. Why wouldn't you bake
some of those things into it? And with Skataboo, with
elite neighbors, there are different ways that you can configure
the formation to put the ball in the hands of

(05:07):
your three best players on every play, either handed the
camp scataboo, throw it to elite neighbors, and pull it
out the back door with Jackson Dark. That is a
way to juice of that offense without doing much. I
think that should be a big part of what they do.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Yeah, it'll be fun to see and exciting.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
It'll be exciting.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
There'll be some buzz there as they welcome the Charters
into town for a big ball game. So looking forward
to Saint Jackson Dart and what that looks like. How
about last night's game buck Detroit Lions after a first
first week clunker. Man, they are cooking with gas, including
I think the most impressive one of the season what
they did at Baltimore on Monday night.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yeah, they went to Baltimore and you hit the bullies
in the mouth. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
When you run for two hundred and twenty four yards
on thirty eight carries and you run duo, which is
power without pullers, over and over and over again, that
is imposing your will on the opponent. I found it
interesting that Dan Campbell talked about always wanting to model
the Lions after the Ravens because they were a hall

(06:09):
market consistency and success, but also their physicality, toughness and
the way they ran roughshot over opponents.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
You saw Detroit going there intent on doing that to
the Ravens.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
And I'm gonna say this, man, David Montgomery Jamior Gibbs,
eleven games where they both had had at least one
rushing touchdown, amazing, that's a record. The way that they're
able to just punish people. And then Jerry Golf and
a mom Rasaint Brown, the connection he has with Sam
la Porter.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Just a nice, well constructed offense, and John Morton found
a way to keep it.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
Simple, but he added some pizzizz because as Detroit fans,
that's what they're used to. They want to see a
little fun and god, so he gave them that. But
it was a great game plan with even better execution
from an offense that is look still explosive, still dangerous,
still able to win.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
For so for this I kind of love the way
they played it.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Do you remember what the slogan was for Stanford, uh
when Harbaugh was there?

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Oh, inellectrial brutality.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Intellectual brutality, And that's what I thought of kind of
watching that game was and you know, they've got David
Shaw there as the Stanford Ties. But yeah, and they
and Dan Campbell had long established the physical culture there.
Brad Holmes had drafted physical players, starting with Penney Sewell.
Amara Saint Brown's as physical as any wide receiver in
the NFL. David Montgomery is a physical runner like they
There's the physicality part of it. I was just curious

(07:31):
with the change from Ben Johnson Johnny Morton that were
we going to see the the intellectual side of it,
the creative side, the the play design, uh man, And
it was that was on display big time, not only
on the uh you know, the little option with Amaras
Saint Brown uh goal line that was a sick little play,

(07:53):
but even just the way they were able to sneak
Amarah out on the big that big play at the
end of the game to get him over the top
and Jared Goff just dropped it right in the bucket
of beautiful throat. That was an excellent play design.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Yeah, excellent places. But how about Dan Campbell continue to
be who he is? Fourth and two, I'm in the
studio with yam and yeah, I'm like, man, I don't
know how they're gonna punt this. They can do it,
and Dan Campbell doesn't flinch at all. Now we've abot
to win the game and to save a play where
they kind of have him motion in like he's gonna
at you, maybe a wham block, but he kind of
sneaks through, gets on the backside, and people will believe this.

(08:25):
That throw to Jerry Golf, that's a very difficulty. He
put it right in the spot, I mean, right in
the bucket. Great play by.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Them, Yeah, no, no, no question. That was a big time,
big time throw. I always come down on it at
these ends of the game decisions, you know, go for it,
punt whatever you want to do. I want to win
or lose with my best dudes on the field. Man Like,
if if that's our best guys and then we lose
the ball game because they don't make it happen, that's fine.

(08:53):
I'd much rather do that than lose by I'm playing
conservative or this that or the other night. Who do
you try to your best? What's the best group you got?
And roll with him? And also there's something to be
said of I think you're seeing teams now like I'm
not giving Lamar Jackson the ball. I'm playing against the
Josh Allen, I'm not giving him the ball, Like why
would why would you do that? With those premier guys,

(09:14):
Just don't don't even take it, don't even put it
the chance.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Well, as part of how the lines played the entire game,
they controlled the ball, they dominated time and possession.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
That's what they wanted to do.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
And as you said it, our offense is our best
defense against the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
If I have a chance to win the game with
my offense, let's get it done. Jerry Golf Mamra Saint Brown.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Perfect play action pass, they delivered it on time, on target,
game over. Just look, just a great sequence of downs
and more importantly, just great execution under pressure by their
best players.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
How about how this sets up next week for Baltimore
in case c one of those teams Buck is going
to be one to three man.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Lose the leads out match. I mean, it's it's perfect,
Like this is is what we want to see. We
want to see the top teams go at it. And
you know the thing about it is, if I'm not mistaken,
I think Kansas City owns Baltimore When it comes to
those matchups. This doesn't bowl well for the Ravens, and
I know that kan City can't score and they haven't
been able to do it, But defensively they've been rock solid.

(10:17):
They've been able to continue to control it. I have
more confidence in Kansas City trying to figure out than
Baltimore right now. I look, I am at a loss
in terms of the Baltimore Ravens kind of being at
one and two and playing the way they played on paper.
They have aregably the best talent of any team in

(10:39):
the league on their roster. But DJ watching Derrick Henry
completely melt down after fumble, watching Lamar Jackson and those
guys their reactions. I'm telling you, man, my biggest thing
but the Ravens is not the talent or anything. It's
just a poise. Pois under pressure. To me, I worry
about that from this team.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
I'll tell you what I worry about. And spent time
in an organization and knowing what they pride themselves on.
I know that they're good teams. I mean, two of
the best teams in the league and maybe Super Bowl
favorites when you look at Buffalo and Detroit. But the
Baltimore Ravens pride themselves on the defensive side of the
ball and their toughness, their physicality and defense.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Defense. Defense.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
You've already lost a game where you've scored forty points,
and you've lost another game where you've scored thirty points.
That sounds like the Bengals, not the Ravens. And this
is that is a problem. And I'll be curious to
see as we go forward now, and especially we'll see
what happens in this Kansas City game. If Kansas City's
offense will somehow get right against them, I think you'll
see changes, whether or not that's you know, from a

(11:38):
coaching perspective or a line of those facts. If that
ain't acceptable, that is not acceptable in that organization.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
Hey, DJ, it's already kind of been like telegraph right.
Chuck McDonald's back in the building. He's over there coaching
the secondary. He has experienced. I know he is a
head coach, but as a coordinator, if it gets to it,
I wouldn't that be surprised to see an experienced guy
kind of end up with the call sheet. And no
disrespect to zachter or but you talk about the raven
you talk about the expectations and what they're used to.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
That, ain't it.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Man Like we've already seen the Atlanta Falcons make moves
and maneuvers three weeks into the season. I wouldn't be
surprised to see something happen in Baltimore, and Baltimore is
not a knee jerk reaction organization, but standards are high
there for defensive ball, and what they're getting right now
is not certainly up to the bar.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Buck.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
I'm gonna rip through these games that we didn't get
a chance to touch much on, and I'm going to
give you one nugget, one thought after going through and
watching the tape, and then so we can go kind
of rapid fire here. But it's a couple of thoughts. Arizona,
San Francisco. Look the Joey Bosa or sorry, the Nick
Bosa injury out for your ACL That is brutal. The
thing that stood out to me though watching this, Marvin

(12:49):
Harrison Junior has no confidence right now, none Like they
haven't figured out how to use him. He doesn't look comfortable.
He's fighting the ball, he's trying to gather to catch
the ball. I don't know where this thing got off
the rails. But that does not look good right now.
For all the hype and expectation and reputation he had
coming out, that is not a good look where he's

(13:10):
at right now.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
No, it's not a good look. And they haven't been
able to unlock him.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
They haven't been able to maximize who he is as
a playmaker, and it's really disappointing. You would think that
Cala Murray would be able to raise up and find
him some field and keep him engaged, and they just
haven't been able to do that.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Some of that catch the ball, that's the problem too,
catch the ball.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Some of that is him and DJ I do wonder,
right and we all are.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
We all come into this with biases and prejudices and
those things.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
And I do want to go on all the way
back to his time at Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
If we're able to go back and relook at the tape,
we feel as strongly as we felt if his name
was not Marvin Harrison Junior, compared to Joe blow wide out.
I wondered by that because right now he's not creating
the separation, he's not catching the ball consistently. He he
just doesn't look like a top guy and he is
glaying and if you'd the Arizona card that you have

(14:05):
to be concerned you too.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Yeah, absolutely, one hundred percent. All right, Indie Tennessee. I
mean the Colts are rolling right now. We talked so
much about Daniel Jones. I took a peak though. Taekwan
Lewis had a great game, two sacks, had a bunch
of pressures. I went back and watched all his pass
rush stuff. They're using him in a wide variety of ways.
He'll line up wide, he's in a four eye inside
of the tackle at kicking me. He's a three technique

(14:29):
like he's moving up and down the line of scrimmage
and just kind of an indicative player of how their
front plays. They all play fast, they play physical. They
can get into your chest and walk you back to
the quarterback. But he's just one example of the way
that group is playing up front. They're done a really
nice job. I don't think they've been talked about quite
as much because of the Daniel Jones Indiana Jones hysteria
right now. But defensively up front, they're playing well.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
They are playing well, and what I do like about
whether they're able to do on defense lou Ana Roumo
has taken I would say high IQ second a lot
of versatility and deploy them in a bunch of different ways.
The variety of coverage that they're able to utilize allows
the front to attack in a bunch of different ways
and it really really works. And when I think about

(15:12):
what the Coats are, look, man, they're a team that
has mastered the art and playing complimentary ball and in
a way, Daniel Jones and this team, they're operating like
the New York Giants did when they went on their
deep playoff runt with him as the quarterback. And it
takes a great defense, It takes them playing confliment re
ball on offense to run game the receivers and all

(15:34):
those things. To me, what happens is when this team
jumps out to a three and zho start and they
have some wins like they've had, they begin to buy
into the approach and now it's a snowball rolling downhill.
Now they have enough confidence where whether they're good or not,
they believe they're good. And that can be very very
difficult in a division that was vulnerable with the Houston

(15:56):
Texas that on three's there for them, they can see
them sit each and every week itching closer tours, not
only being a playoff team, but a team that can
contend to make some noise happen.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
And we've talked about changes on the coaching side. Man
the Titans already if you want to say, pulling the
rip court, whatever you want to call it. But Brian Callahan,
he's done calling plays. He's handed that off to the quarterback.
Coach and bo Heart agree, So trying to figure out
a way to get something going positive there in Tennessee.
We'll keep an eye on that one as they go forward. Pittsburgh,
New England. Ugly game, turnovers the story of the game.

(16:28):
But on the Pittsburgh side of it, Nate Herbig Nick
Herbig had six pressures, So going back and watching that,
kind of an underrated player since he's coming to the league.
He has got a ton of speed. He can win
with speed. He's got a nice little rip move, had
a nice inside counter in that as well. All the
attention goes to t J. Watt, But Herbig, to me,
is a really good young player and it's fun to

(16:48):
watch him play. Played with his hair on fire. But overall,
Aaron Rodgers wasn't great in this game, they still don't
look great offensively.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
New England. Just the turnovers got them. The tournament has
got them.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
And I would say this when it comes to Pittsburgh,
I don't think Pittsburgh should be expected to be a
great offensive team. Well, the expectations should be in Pittsburgh
dominant defense, selective playmaking from the quarterback, and a punishing
running game. That's how they need to play, That's how
they're built to play. To think that this team is
going to be a high wire act, a team that

(17:22):
puts up a lot of points with Aaron Rodgers leading
the way.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Look, that's the recipe for disaster.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Defensively, As they get back to playing the type of
ball that Pittsburgh normally plays on defense, they'll be able
to win games. But they have to win games with
the old school format. If they're doing too much through
Aaron Rodgers short term success, long term failure, they need
to make sure that they win the right way, and
they've built the right way and they have the pieces
they have to operate with that premise.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Drew gave us a great nugget here. No Steelers offensive
linement a lot more than one pressure against the Patriots
Zach Frasier and Isaac Somalo didn't allow a single pressure.
It's the first time Aaron Rodgers hasn't been sacked in
a game since Week thirteen, twenty twenty two. Buck, So
at least that's a positive you can take away from
them offensively. I mean, look, they threw for one hundred

(18:11):
and thirty nine yards, they ran for sixty four yards.
They get they look, they got an interception of four fumbles.
That's that was the story of that game. That's how
the Pittsburgh Steelers won. I'm not going to spend any
time on this one. Cincinnati Minnesota. We talked about that
a little bit with Baldy, I just you know, was
going back through that. He talked about Carson Wentz and
how well he played Dallas. Turner had five pressures, which
is a good sign on the stat sheet as a

(18:33):
you know, someone who didn't do a lot last year
during his rookie season, A lot more was expected of him.
They've got a lot of guys they can roll through there.
But five pressures really just kind of outside speed and
they ran him on some loop stunts. It wasn't any
like pure pass rush wins, but just kind of showing
his overall athleticism. So I think we we cover We
covered that game Buck so Vegas, Washington. You can tell
I kind of focused a lot on pass rush. It

(18:55):
was kind of a just a pet project that was
going through dron payin seven pressures and it is a
lot of pure bowl power. They uh, you know, they
move him around on the front, they do they do
something that I hated as a quarterback, which is they
when they get in some obvious pass situations, dan Quinn
doesn't have anybody with their hand on the ground, so
it's like that they got four guys walking around standing up.

(19:17):
It's just kind of hard to get a feel for
where people are lining up and where they're coming from.
But he rushes actually really well from a stand up
position for a big dude.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yeah, you know, Dan Klan is just he's just really terrific.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
And this go around, he and Joe whitt Junior, his
defensive coordinator, they found a way to take this veteran
defense because they have a bunch of veterans that are
playing and yet after it and you know, when I
look at the commanders and I look at how they're
just trying to keep pace with the Philadelphia Eagles. They're there, man,
They're talented on offense, they're beat up. But if they

(19:49):
continue to play like they're playing, Marcus Mario to playing great.
If you can continue to kind of hold that down,
what Jayden Daniels recovers from his injury, this seems gonna
be well positioned to be right there with the Eagles.
And what we do know is we watch these two teams,
the Eagles and the Commanders respectively, they're on a collision
course in that division. Even though we can all say
that the Eagles are superior, man, the Commanders are right there.

(20:12):
They don't fear them, they're right there. And that performs
against Las Vegas. To me, showed them maturity to take
care of a team that they're better than. They dispatched
them to get rid of them. They took care of business.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
I love. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Look, it's you get your backup quarterback in there. We
talked about Minnesota, you know, talk about the forty nine ers,
what they've done, and then you look in this game
with Marcus Mariota. Heye, any game you went with your
backup quarterback, it's almost feels like two wins.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Man.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
The way you're able to survive without your starting quarterbacks
a big, big deal. New Orleans and Seattle going through that.
Sam Donald was awesome in this game, pushing the ball vertically.
Jsn is legit a number one wide receiver. The way
he's playing, what he's doing offensive line wise, I thought
they played clean defensively. Their defensive tackle duo might be

(20:58):
playing better than any other duo in the league right now.
Byron Murphy's been awesome. Leonard Williams to me is I
don't think there's a better defensive tackle in football. With
the way he's playing. He's been awesome. So those guys
playing great. The back end has come around. Job is
kind of taking over that corner spot. He's done a
really nice job. All those guys fly around, they get
to the football, So that was the good side. Or

(21:20):
with Seattle, New Orleans, Buck they are marching towards the
first pick in the draft. They do not have talent,
and I don't want to Yeah, I guess I would
say I'll give up on the season. But I was
watching that game and the thought didn't come to my
mind of where are they going to get a win?
The thought came to my mind of did they have
anybody people want to trade for and see if you
can't unlock some future draft picks for some of your

(21:40):
veteran guys.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
I think it is that's where we are. Yeah, so bad, man,
they just just aren't good.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
And I feel bad for Kellen. I feel bad for Kellen.
He gets a job to the head coach, but they
don't have any players. Yeah, they don't have any players.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
They're just so far behind from I mean from quarterback
to pivotal guys.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
They just don't have anything to pass.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Rush has gotten old with Cam Jordan Davis, like they're
just an older team that just doesn't have enough. You know,
they don't have a look a fighter chance. And that
game was over before you even sat down and started DJ,
before you could get all your snacks and drinks together
to sit down and watch the game. I mean, Seattle
was up on them twenty one oh or whatever. It
was crazy to kind of watch and keep over with

(22:18):
the score, you know, for Keel And I think what
you want to do is you want to kind of
build and try and build slowly but surely.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
But who do you even build around? You know, my
question is I'm looking at her back. What are we
doing I'm looking.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
At their team going if I'm if I'm if I'm
needing a passers, I might call them on Carl Granderson,
Carl Granderson, I think it's got three and a half
four sacks come around there.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
He's big, he's physical.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
We think about all those teams that play with kind
of a physical edge guy, you know, big, you know,
set the edge, you know, a point of attack player
who can also rush a little bit, like that'd be one.
I was trying to figure out guys you'd want to
target on that team to try and trade for.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
That was one that would come to mind.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
Yeah, man, here's the thing, like what could we possibly
get for him? And what are we gonna get him return?

Speaker 1 (23:03):
If you get a mid round pick, I think you
get a fourth round pick.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Round maybe obviously we.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
Have to have the fire sale and try and see
if we can, you know, recrup enough picks to help
the talent. But man, they already breathing talent. They don't
have much, and so now we give away to decent
players that have is it's a tough situation for him,
you know, I just don't know.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
I don't know where they go. Like that's the bad thing.
I just don't know what.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
I just think they got caught in between, man like,
that's the last place you want to be. Like, either
go young and we're going to develop and we're gonna
take our lumps, but we're gonna build something, you know,
with all these young guys, but bring it back a
bunch of these veteran players extending out some of them
made no sense to me, man Like, they're not in
a winning window. Like, let's just get as many young
guys out there as you can, find out what you got,
get high picks and move forward.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
I think it takes that long term commitment between ownership
and coach to coach as to know, hey, we will
take some lunch for a year and a half, but
somewhere down the line gonna pay off.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
And yeah, you got to have the hard conversation.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
Maybe you have to have a hard conversation with the
team and with the players and say, hey, this is
where we're at. You know, we talked about a rebuilding.
We got to get back on track. We got to
you know, crawl before we walk and walk before we run.
But they are many, they've been bad. They were bad
last week. It was a bad that was a bad
game to wise, it was a tough game to watch.
They were terrible.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
Yeah, they're not good by the way, the uh the
Seahawks last nugget on them. Fuck, we don't get all
of them right. But this is a show of record
for Tory Horton when he was coming out, and we
both loved what he brought to the table at carl State.
He was a He was my seventy third overall player
that I believe they got in the fifth round, so
that that was a value on draft day and it's
proven itself out the way he's played, establishing himself as

(24:45):
a legit number two wide receiver behind jsn so and
also in the return game. So a big time, big
time valued, great pick by John Schneider. Last game, real quick,
I'm not going to spend any time on this. Atlanta
Carolina one of the all time weird box scores when
you don't see the game and you look at the
box and you see how the game was dominated by
the Carolina Panthers, and then I go, okay, I'm going
to focus on what kind of cut up do I

(25:06):
want to watch on Carolina. Let's get excited. What do
I want to see I'm like, okay, well Bryce through
for one hundred and twenty one yards. Okay, not going
to watch much of that. Let's go maybe defensively, may
we got the heated Panics up a little bit the
way they shut them out, they dominate them. Well that
zero sacks, two TFLs, and two quarterback hits, Like, how
the heck did they beat this team this bad? What happened?

(25:27):
Three turnovers? That that had a lot to do with it.
So hats off to the Carolina Panthers for shocking folks
and handling that ball game. But I'll be honest with
the Atlanta just kind of completely laid an egg, And
maybe that's part of the reason why you already have
a position coach getting let go this early in the season.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
Yeah, man, I don't know what a wide receiver coach
could have done right then.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
I don't know, But yeah, like when you start seeing
this to me, DJ, this is where I get concerned.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
If I'm Ryane Morris and I felt the need to
pull a plug on my position coach after three weeks.
This is something that you probably were brewing on over
the course of the off season and you didn't do it.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
Now you make the move, but who benefits? How do
they benefit?

Speaker 3 (26:09):
How did the wide receivers benefit from that? It shows
a little bit of a sign of panic.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Unless there's something we don't know. There's always with that
stuff happens. There can be stuff going on, you know,
for sure, Like for sure, I.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Mean you guys, Zach Robinson. Also going from being in
the mooth to being down on the sideline. That's one
of the things that has come out or whatever. Like,
I don't like making moves that appear to be emotional.
We talked about living in a world where we're like
facts over feelings. I like things that are factual in
those things, and I begin to worry about the players

(26:42):
losing confidence in the coaches when they start looking around.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
At me, like wait, whoa why are we doing all this?

Speaker 1 (26:49):
So yeah, that's fair, that's a fair point. All right,
we hit all the games we didn't hit yesterday. So
if taking care of that business, we're gonna pause, take
a quick little break. We will come right back. We'll
get our rookie draft. So we have rets. We have
Ret's draft order, so Gavin's got that, so he'll make
those selections for Rett. We'll knock out the rookie draft
and them. We also have our coordinator of the week
as well, and we'll be right back right after this.

(27:15):
All right, buck, time to knock out our rookie draft.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
Here.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
If we look at where things are as of right now,
let's see last week we add all this stuff up.
Oh man, we are very close. So I've got thirteen points.
Rett's got twelve, You've got eleven. You got a nice
week last week. Hampton had a good week for you,

(27:40):
so that got you. That got you some point. You
got four points last week, Hrett had five.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
I had three. A good week, good week for you
and Rett I go struggle a little bit, but we're
we're hanging on.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
So let's get to our draft this week. A little
rookie draft action to refresh everybody's memory.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Here. The way it works. You get three.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
Players, you get a running back, the receiver, a tight end,
and we'll go a little snake draft here. I will
start us off and I will go first pick. I
can go in a couple different directions here, but I
am going to go I'm gonna stick with a Buka.
He's just playing at such a high level. I'm gonna go,
Meca Buka with my first pick.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
That's cool, man, I was worried about you being a
homer and taking a running back with your first pick.
So I'm going to do that. I will be a homer.
I'm gonna take a Martin Hampton because the path is
opened up for him. They're playing against the Giants. I
think this is a great opportunity for them to establish
themselves as a.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Ground and found team. A marighth Hampton, come on down,
all right?

Speaker 1 (28:38):
So Rhett gets to go with Warren for the fourth
week in a row. He's got him each and every week,
and he gets to double up here after taking Tyler Warren,
who's been excellent, He's gonna come back with Quinn Shaw Judkins.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
With his next pick. Like that pick as well? What
are you thinking here, Man's that's a good one. Let's go.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
So he took a quistion on Jakins. I'm gonna go
with quinnch Ehn's teammate because Harrd Finning Junior has been
getting some opportunities, so let's go with him. I'm gonna
go with him as my title.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Okay, so you're gonna go Fanning. So if I'm looking
for a running back, if we're just gonna go purely
off of the next guy up is Ashton Genty. I
feel like that, I feel like that big game is
just around the corner, so I'm gonna stick with him.
I'm gonna go with Ashton Genty, so he's gonna end
up being my running back, and then I've got my
wide receiver. Lovelin got nicked up and hurt. You know

(29:34):
who actually popped last week was Aronde Gatson Junior for
the charters. He had a really nice, a really nice
ball game, So tempted to go in that direction. You
guys have taken the top two guys, Tyler Warren and
Harold Fannon have been the best, the most consistent guys.
I'm gonna take gats and I'm doing I'll be at Homer.

(29:54):
I mean, you are me in a bit of a Homer.
He played great last week and when justin Herbert Trusse,
he's gonna get to the ball. So I'm gonna go
to go in that direction. Who you got next.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Wide receivers?

Speaker 3 (30:08):
I think I'm gonna go with Let's go with t mac.
Let's go with tedor Roy McMillan. Let's see if we
can get him to scratch.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
For me this week beautiful, and then Ret's go on
Io manor. So that's a second week in a row.
I think he's done that as well, so he's the
Io Manner guy. All right, Well there's our rookie draft
that we'll see if this thing continues to stay tight.
Is all bottled up at this point in time? One
more piece of business to handle, h Buck, it is uh.

(30:38):
It is time to get to our coordinator of the week.
And that gets us too. It's time for Hot or Not,
brought to you by with Sabi Hot Cloud Storage. I
think we decided this after our discussion on Monday, we
decide this is going to be a Jim Schwartz Award.
He has been the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns
since twenty three. He was the twenty three NFL Assistant
Coach of the Year his first season as the Browns

(31:00):
defensive coordinator. This is his twenty ninth year as an
NFL coach, his seventeenth as a defensive coordinator. A couple
other nuggets on him. In twenty four of the Browns
only NFL team did not allow a three hundred yard passer.
They've only allowed one that's incredible one. In his thirty
seven games as the Browns defensive coordinator, first in total

(31:20):
defense and rush defense, eleventh in sacks, oh sorry, eleven sacks,
which is third in the NFL. The longest rush they've
given up all year this year is eleven yards by
Lamar Jackson. They've given up only twenty two total plays
of ten yards or more that is tied for the
second fewest in the NFL. So incredible, incredible job he's

(31:40):
done since he's got to Cleveland. And for a background
history lesson there on. Coach Shorts defensive coordinator for Cleveland
in twenty three and twenty one and twenty two. He
was a senior defensive assistant with the Tennessee Titans. From
sixteen to twenty he was with the Eagles, won a
Super Bowl there as their defensive coordinator. There was a
little gap before that because he was with the Buffalo
Little Bills and fourteen than a couple of years before

(32:02):
he went to the Eagles. Obviously, the head coach of
the Detroit Lions from two thousand and nine to twenty thirteen.
He's a very very smart guy. Getting a chance to
be around him Georgetown, very very bright and someone who
has been able to combine kind of having that intelligence
with a little swagger as well.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
Yeah, no, this is man.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
This is someone who does a really good job of
keeping his defense in line. And it's funny because last
year the kind of fill off the map for whatever reason.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
But they they're back in full effect.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
And one having Miles Garried up front certainly helps when
he's able to execute a little crossover maneuver like DJ
that that inside move did he execute it on the
tackle from Green Bay and he just dips inside like
that's freaky deeky type stuff coming off to edge, but
being able to put a package behind it where they
don't do a lot man they run twisting games, a

(32:54):
little five man pressure on occasion, dell man up and
take everything away. So she's done a really good job
and that that's suffocation of the Packers offense. Man, it
gives them a lot of confidence and as they play
in those kinds of games, and not only gives their
team a lot of confidence, but it might give Kevin
Stefanski to confidence to be ay, maybe we're good enough

(33:15):
where if I can keep just being conservative and play
a certain.

Speaker 2 (33:18):
Way on offense, we might be able to win.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
A bunch of games in the fourth quarter, even though
some would say that we're not good enough to compete
in this division.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
Yeah, no, they're going to keep man games, I know that,
and give them an opportunity. Jim Schwartz really one of
the best defensive coaches in the history of the NFL.
We look at his track record, he's done a phenomenal job.
That was this week's Hot or Not segment, brought to
you by with Sabi Hot Cloud Storage, store more and
do more with your data. Try them for free at
wassabi dot com. Again, Hats off to Jim Schwartz. Hats

(33:49):
off to the Cleveland Browns with the most shocking victory
of the week. I would say what they pulled off
against the Green Bay Packers.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
Buck.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
We'll be back Thursday, and when we're back THIRSD we're
gonna have our good buddy Bruce Feldman going to join us.
It's a huge weekend of college football. A lot to
get to with what's happened already in the college football season,
as well as what we're looking forward to as we
march towards a big, big weekend sec especially some monster
monster games in the sec and then the Big ten.
You've got Oregon at Penn State, so we'll have a
chance to catch up with our buddy Bruce and break

(34:17):
everything down. Appreciate you guys hanging with us and we'll
see you next time. Right here, unmove the sticks.
