Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
What's up, everybody. Welcome to moving sticks, DJ, Bucky Rhet
with you on what is going to be a rookie Wednesday. Boys.
We're gonna uh, we're going to dive into here some
of these rookies and some of the good stuff we've
seen from them. And uh, we'll start things off though
with the rookie draft. We do this each and every
week we have a draft. You get a running back
or receiver, tight end. We don't have enough freaking quarterbacks.
Include them in the mix. It's kind of like a

(00:28):
standard uh fantasy scorings. How we we score it and
then we keep keep the results. Last week, guys, I
don't think it's an US problem. I think it's a
rookie problem. It wasn't great.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
If we recall last week my selections, I had, uh,
I had Hampton, I had oh, I had I had
to Tedoro McMillan at receiver. I had Harold Fannon who
did a nice did a nice job. Bucky had Genty
Buca and Loveland Loveland man nothing zero and then Rhet
goes Henderson Hunter at receiver. And then and then Warren,

(01:05):
who's been a stud I mean, I guess yeah, but
I mean before we get to the rookie draft, Rhett
is is Tyler Warren the offensive rookie of the year
right now.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
I mean through two weeks, no question. I mean, just
you look at production. I mean, he's he is. You know,
essentially this has the second most receiving yards of any rookie,
behind only McMillan, and it's by like thirteen yards. Now
Buka is scoring touchdowns, so like that's that that's another
thing to consider here. But I'd say Abuka is up there,
and uh, it's it's kind of a three man race

(01:35):
right there between at Buka Tterorro and McMillan and Tyler Warren.
You know what's kind of sneaky though, Dylan Samson is
putting up points on that, not as a runner but
as a receiver. Wonder what the impact of Quinchhn Judkins coming.
I don't think you're seeing Judkins catching a ton of passes,
but maybe if that's if that steals some of the
some of the thunder from from Sampson in this game,

(01:57):
but in this game plan, but that's kind of encouraging.
If you're the Browns.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Trying to look for signs of life. I like that.
I like that, And uh, last week, point wise, we
all we're all nodded up three way tie. So as
we look at the season standings right now, I've I've
got ten points, buckying red at seven. So there's no
no real separation there. All right, RTT go ahead and
lead us off.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
I mean, you just got to get yourself a guaranteed
three points here with your first pick. And so I'm
going Tyler Warren for the third straight week. He is
going to be a member of my squad. Lock it up,
Colts tight end, getting after it once again. By the way,
that team in the Colts is not punted yet. Just
keeping that, keeping that in perspective.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
I had that. I knew that was going to happen
this year. I pretty this offense. They're not punting the ball.
There's no chance. All right, here we go. Let's go
Tyler Warren. I gotta go, I gotta go, genty. I'm
gonna stay chalk here. Pete Carroll said after the game.
They want to give him more touches, more carries, so
I'm gonna I'm gonna lean into that and take Ash

(02:59):
and Genty doubling.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Yeah, I am doubling up right now, and I'm torn.
So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna go with
Tror McMillan as a worldwide receiver and then let's see
tight end wise, at some point, we got to do
something for the Browns. Yeah, Harrold Fannin did nothing for
you last week?

Speaker 2 (03:21):
No, he was solid, Harrold Finnon solid week. Well, we
can go with.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Him because we have no choice, and then I have
to figure out a running back on the back end.
Harold Finn Welcome, Welcome to Buck.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
You had five for forty eight last week. That's what
I mean when this is the way that this rookie
group's going right now, that's a that's a win. H
So back to you, right, Mary fan you double up?
What was the other one? So, Harold fann who's the
other one?

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Buck Mac?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah? T Mac?

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
All right. So I've got Warren or sorry, I've got Genty.
Warren's gone, uh Bannon, I don't need a tight end.
I can hold off on that. Yeah. So receiver wise, yeah,
I mean, I don't think I have a choice. I
got I go a buka dang it do. How do
you not go Buka here?

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Dang it?

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Okay, right, all right, we'll finish it up. You can
finish your picks up here. Here you go. Yep, yep, yep, yep.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
We'll do that here. Let's do this. Let's go elk
a o manor wow sand for Titans. Let's get him
into the get him into the mix here a little
bit and then gosh from the running back. I mean,
like no Eckler like, we gotta go j C. M

(04:31):
here for the running back. I they've got to give him.
They have got to give him the right.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
This dude over here to take him.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
They've got to It's time.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
All right, I'm gonna go. Let's see who do I
want here? Tight end wise? Man? Is love one ever
gonna do anything? What are we doing? Mason? Taylor is
an option? I've got a royo. Yeah, yeah, it's let's
see where he where he is at. He's got three

(05:04):
catches for thirty eight yards this year.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
It's tough.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
It's tough. Gunner Helm's three for twenty five. I could go,
I could go double up on Titans. I don't know that.
I love that motive right now, Golly, Mason, Taylor has
two for twenty five for two games, Colston leveland has
two catches for twelve yards. For the love of guy,
let's get him the ball. I'm gonna go. Yeah, We're
gonna bring it. Okay, all right, they somehow handle that.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
All right.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Well, I'm gonna take a long term strategy and I'm
gonna just take a blue like a blue chip prospect.
I'm gonna go to Mario Hampton. I'm just gonna believe it.
At some point he's gonna get his opportunity. We can
give him the rock. We're gonna stay true to form.
Amaron Hampton.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
I'm on down, okay, right, I'm gonna do a I'm
gonna do a little exercise here. I'm gonna send you guys.
I was down on the sideline before the game, just
zoom in, zoom in real quick on this picture that
I just took. I felt kind of weird doing it,
but I was like, I these are Saquon Barkley level
quads on Omarion Hampton. I mean, look at today and

(06:07):
Cavs on that. He is enormous. Like, I don't know, Buck,
I don't know what you guys are doing at Carolina
and the Strength program back in the day. I mean's
mad dog back there. Now they got him these dudes out.
I was like, holy crud.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
I will say this charges fans will appreciate a headlong
conversation with Natron means about it. Marian Hampton, he was like,
they never used him, They didn't use them enough at
Chapel Hill. That he is a workhorse. He's a guy
who gets better with more carries. I would say that
at some point Marion Hampton becomes Jim Harbaugh's version of
Frank Gore and he becomes a big part of this

(06:43):
offensive puzzle as they lightened the load on Herbert, but
create more explosive plays because you really have to defend
the running game.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah. Well, I mean, look, the only thing that's going
to be in the way there is that Naji Harris
ran the ball really really well. Yeah, the other night.
So we'll see what that work share looks like going forward.
But there's our rookie draft for this week. We'll keep
an eye on that. I want to hit on some
other rookies guys as we kind of go through today's
episode again, it's gonna be a shorter episode today. We'll

(07:10):
have some some preview conversation coming up in the in
the remaining remainder of the week. But Ratt, you had
mentioned about Dylan Samson. He's done a really, really nice
job catching the ball out of the backfield. He's got
seventy seven yards and a touchdown already through two games.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Yeah, and look again, not a huge part of the
game plan, you know, in the run game, but get
you know, And he caught Dylan Gabriel's first touchdown pass
of his career, right, so Dylan to Dylan and again
it was way too little, way too late for the Browns.
But it was a nice little corner route that he
ran from the slot, like give a nice little stick.
I'd like to see him stem up a little bit

(07:46):
a little bit more there. I think he broke it
off a little bit quickly, but Gabriel stuck with it
and fit it, you know, just over the dropping corner
and just out of the reach of the closing safety.
So I thought that was a fun play for Browns
fans to kind of get a vision perhaps of the future.
And you wonder just how distant that future really is
with the way things are going offensively for the Cleveland Browns.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
I will.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
I will let this thing go back around if you want.
But I think if we're talking about rookies overall, especially
offensive skill, having a somewhat down week, we have to
really prop up excuse me, really prop up the Atlanta
Falcons defensive rookies.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Oh my gosh, that was huge safeties the edge wreshers.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Saw it all happened like the entire draft, you know, Yeah,
both the first round picks get their first career sacks.
Jalen Walker looked like a man coming off the edge.
That was fun to watch with some you know, kind
of bowl in the China shop type stuff. And then
Bowman and Watts, you know, come up with huge picks
in that game off JJ McCarthy. So I thought that
was that was fun to watch again to get a
glimpse of what this thing could be from a cornerstone

(08:52):
future cornerstone perspective.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Look, we talked about the end of the day book
about these young safeties too. Man, those two safety these
Macouba's got to pick as well as you're seeing, you're
seeing what Yeah, as well, there's a lot of good
young safeties. Man. Got of good rookies, Yeah, a lot.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
Of good rookies and we talked about it on the
show on Monday, where we talked about just how you
want to have like these athletic safeties. They have corner
like skills with great instincts and awareness and can tackle
like old school safeties, and we're seeing the league having
an influx of that. I think if we're going to
talk about rookers, have to talk about witnessing Travis Hunter
have more experience playing defense and how unique it is

(09:32):
to see a guy who literally was carrying the passing
game for a bit of the game to then go
back and play defense and have to play extensively. Look,
I love what he's trying to do. I do think
is a very very difficult deal to be a full
time player trying to play on both sides. And look,
the rookies is wading in the water. But he got
a little baptism on Sunday against the Beat.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
And that kind of strange that for all the you know,
the talk, it's just been such a just kind of
nonsense story line through two weeks of the season, like
just you know, he's been he's been fine. Haven't really
talked about much on the defensive side of the ball.
Buck We've seen it right. But offensively, I just I
kind of thought we'd have more at this point.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
What do you think, Yeah, no, so okay, so we
get the stat eighty one snaps in week two against
Cincinnati forty two offense, thirty nine defense.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
That's crazy.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
I would say that what you've seen is more short
intermediate routes. They kind of running like the old Indianapolis
Colts route, like the little five yard under Reggie Wayne
and Marvin Harrison made a living catching those underneath rousse,
which are cool. The big thing that you want to
see from him defensively, I've always felt like he was
going to be a better zone corner than man corner.

(10:45):
He got hung out of dry a little bit in
man demand coverage, gave up an interference, had a breakup,
But just kind of want to see when they're able
to kind of settle in and allow him to be
a sea ball gefball defender. Can't be the playmaker that
they envision when they took him number two.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Overall, Yeah, there's a lot of pressure on him, man,
because it's like you've just been a highlight machine in
college and at the Heisman Trophy. There's all that comes
with it and that you just it's not even like
the numbers, like you're expecting to see these huge games
and interceptions and touchdowns, but it's just like, man, this
is supposed to be the most exciting player. And we

(11:20):
know what it's like to see exciting players. We've seen
Malik Neighbors last year jump on the scene. You go
all the way back to the big dogs like Randy Moss,
and it's just like, Okay, this is supposed to be
kind of one of those unique special guys. And I mean,
I think he's going to be a really good player,
but watching that, watching through two weeks, I would say
he's blended in more than it's like you capsually sit

(11:41):
down and you're taking a back by what you're seeing there.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Yeah, blending in is a good way to put it
right now. Not to say it's going to be that way,
but no, that's just where we are through two weeks.
So we'll see, we'll see where it goes from there.
I want to go through some of these other you
know numbers here looking at some of these top guys.
When we talked about Harold Fannin briefly and what he's
done along with Dylan Sampson, we see some of these
young guys offensively for the Cleveland Browns is encouraging McMillan.

(12:06):
We've touched on with the Panthers Traveon Henderson. I mean,
I'm hoping to see some more opportunities and some more
from him, Rhett, But you know, I think he's got
the tools and the ability to be more of a
feature guy, just hasn't really happened yet happened yet. It's
kind of a head scratcher, isn't it. Yeah, Like she's

(12:27):
like your most explosive player on offense, you know what
the the on the other side of it, the you know,
kind of equally as big of a head scratcher. It's
like Kayshawn Boutie has become one of their best receivers. Yeah,
you know, a guy who was left for dead. I
felt like, you know, early in his career, and all
of a sudden, he's go one hundred yard games.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
I'm just I'm struggling to.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Put all the pieces together for Josh McDaniels. So far, Look,
it's working fine. I mean, they they've they've got their
their first win of the season this past week and
looked pretty good doing it with Drake May. I just
think a player like that man only take your offense
to new lengths. Now, look, we don't know what's happening
behind the scenes, and you know, is there a struggle
to pick up some of the complications of the offense,

(13:07):
which you know, for any rookie is always something to
wonder about. But I just I got to feel and
they're not going to hold him back much longer, and
he's got to find a way or they've got to
find a way, you know, to you know, in Bill
Belichick's eyes, like, how do we accentuate this guy's strengths, right, Like,
how do we build around what this guy does very
well and put him in those positions to make the
plays that we saw that led to us taking him

(13:29):
in the second round.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
I just want to see all these rookie running backs.
You just go through the list of all those guys
and we'll see what Judkins get in there. Kataboo, We're
starting to see a little bit, Yeah, Scataboo down there
in the red zone running hard at a nice open
field run. To me, I just want to see them.
Let these guys, let them loose, man Like, Yeah, I
don't think that's as much of an adjustment. Pass protection, sure,
like you you know, you got to make sure that
they know what they're doing in terms of pass protection.

(13:51):
But running the balls. Running the ball. Let these guys
carry the ball. Let them get out there and get
loose and get going. So yeah, we'll see what happens.
You know, we wanted to kind of do a deep
dive on these rookies, and when you really do the
deep dive, there's not been all that impressive, to be
honest with you, at this point in time, it's nothing
to get you super excited. So I want to I
want to do one more thing here as we're kind

(14:12):
of going through kind of a mini episode. We if
we look at the NFC, guys, you've got the undefeated
teams right now, Philly, Green Bay, Tampa, and then you
get to the West with three undefeated teams San Francisco,
Arizona and the Rams. We've talked in the AFC. You
know about how surprised we are with Indianapolis Colts, that

(14:32):
being probably the biggest surprise we've seen to start the year.
Are any of those teams in the NFC, any of
those undefeated teams, does any of that surprise you? At all.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
Not Tampa. I think Green Bay being as dominant as
they've been on defense does surprise me a little bit.
And now look at that, you do have to factor
in Michael Parsons, right, which I think wasn't a part
of the kind of national conversation about the Packers defense
until you know, a week before the season whenever he
ended up getting there, So kind of take that into account. Right, Certainly,

(15:04):
no surprise with Philly. I'd say Arizona being two and oh.
You know, they've played some lesser teams, I think, so
if you take that into account, But if you're if
you're also looking at like which one is which one
of these teams is going to have a hard time
sustaining the two and oh record, and the way that
it's the forty nine ers, you know, with brock Perty
out and the injuries and Kittle out, Like how long

(15:26):
can they continue.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
To keep that up?

Speaker 1 (15:28):
I think, you know, hat tip to them for figuring
it out here through these first two weeks. But I
would say, you know, to me, at this point, the
three best teams in the NFC are the Rams, the Packers,
and the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
Yeah, I agree with you in terms of the three
best teams I think right after that is Tampa the team. Yeah,
I would say it is probably a bit of a
surprise in a way, would be theirs. On the Cardinals,
their schedule certainly has helped them, but still it's hard
to win games. You have three of the John Gannon experience.
They they have jumped out to a fast star but

(16:01):
now can they sustain it in a division that appears
to be vulnerable for them that they've always competed well
against their division rivals, but can they stack enough wins
early to put themselves in a position to kind of
sneak and win the division. That's what I want to
see because the Niners injuries eventually that's gonna come back
to bite them. So now it's about the Cardinals in
the Rams. With the Rams schedule, can the Cardinals kind

(16:24):
of back door their way into a division title?

Speaker 2 (16:26):
I'll be honestly, though they're talking about those three teams
in the NFC West are undefeated, I'm not so sure.
When the dust settles at the best team in the
division isn't the only team with a loss in the
division the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle Seahawks are one and one.
They will be right there till the end. I mean
kind of a I don't want to say a fluky touchdown,
but kind of an odd touchdown. The San Francisco beats
them on on a ball that should have been knocked away,

(16:47):
and then they go on the road and manhandle the
Pittsburgh Steelers. They have a good defense. Sam Donaldoks already
looks very, very comfortable. They've got better up front on
the offensive line. Cooper cups fit in nicely. Like that division,
who who thought that the Yeah Canine ran Sharon May
was better the week before? Yeah? That was the best.

(17:08):
I mean I always had some big games, but like
the stop start stuff was awesome in that game. So
that's a fun division.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Man.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
And uh, and by the way, if you're looking to, uh,
you know, dig in on some of these teams, some
of these rookies. You want to watch these guys you
want to study. Maybe you've got an interest in, you know,
eventually becoming a scout and you want a way to
do that. What do you do? Uh, It's pretty simple.
You just sign up for NFL Plus Premium. You can
check out NFL Pro that's where you can access over

(17:36):
ninety five unique player and team performance stats and the
all important All twenty two film that is available on
desktop and on mobile web. So, uh, I would encourage
you to do that. If you're a junkie, if you're
a football junkie, a film junkie, uh, you have any
interesting scouting or maybe just a fan you want to
know more about what the heck went wrong with your
team that week, I'd encourage you to dive unto the

(17:56):
All twenty two. You'll see stuff on there that you
never saw watching the TV copy. So I would encourage
you guys to do that. Bucke, it was a little
mini episode for us today, But I do feel like
we said some nice things about about North Carolina, you know,
So I feel good about myself. Well, look, I feel
I feel I feel great.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
We've got a big week, got a big game this weekend,
going down the u c F to take on the nights,
so that that that give us a chance to get
maybe three three wins.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
So I'm excited. I'm glad. I'm glad you brought up
u CF By the way, because a good buddy of mine,
Sean Clark, is with teammate of mine, was a head
coach at app State. The offensive line coach at UCF
has had some health health stuff, and uh, I've been
just praying for him and hopefully we get some good
news on that front and he's healing and getting better.
But UH, I love you Sean and thinking about you.

(18:45):
So say, all right, you guys, this is It's been
great to catch you up. We will be back. We'll
have another episode tomorrow. You have a guest for you.
We'll keep that a surprise.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
And then we'll look ahead towards the big football weekend. Rhett,
enjoy your week off on the gout front and uh
and good luck you know who's your the fighting a line. I.
I will see you guys next week.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
We'll be back tomorrow though, right here on hook the sticks.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
