Speaker 1 (00:05):
NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
There is no offseason.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Welcome to yet another day of NFL Now on NFL
Network from our news room in Los Angeles.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
That's Steve Whitch.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
I'm Andrews Ciciliano in honor of the met Gallo last night.
For the record, before anyone asks, I'm wearing suit, supply Steve, Carlo.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Barbera, Carlo Barbara. Yes, guys, Italian cut. I'm long tour
showed I have to wear Italian cutsuits.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Okay, we didn't dress like a cat, nothing over the top,
but just wanted.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
To get it out of the way.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
What it is we are wearing, whatever it is you're wearing.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Thank you for watching today. Let's get the news out
of the way. Today is deadline.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Today is the day that teams have to pick up
a fifth year option for the twenty twenty first round
picks that class, a class.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
That includes Jordan Love.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Brian Goudacun says, there's a lot of money twenty million
to pay a quarterback that hasn't done anything, only started
one game. How about we meet in the middle, And
that evidently is what the Packers have done Tom Pelasero
instead of guaranteeing him that twenty million for twenty twenty four.
They found some middle ground here. We're in essence, if
Jordan Love plays well, everyone's a winner.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
That's right, Andrew.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
This is really a win win type of a deal
for Jordan Love, who gets that one year thirteen point
five million dollars guaranteed extent and that can be worth
up to twenty two point five million dollars with incentives. Now,
had Love simply had his option exercise, he would have
made about two point three million dollars this year and
a little over twenty million dollars in twenty twenty four.

(01:40):
That twenty plus million would have been fully guaranteed, but
Love would not have made any of it this season.
So what they did was they gave him more cash.
In twenty twenty three, he'll make over four times as
much as he would have had he played out the
fourth year on his rookie contract. For the Packers, they
get some cost control here in terms of not having

(02:01):
the base value of the number in twenty twenty four
be up at the number that the fifty year option
would have been. Here, the best case scenario for everyone
is that the twenty twenty four year ends up being
meaningless Andrew, and all they did was give Jordan Love
a raise before they negotiate a fat new extension because
he plays so well heading in the next up right, it.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Means he's not playing this year for just over two million,
which would be underpaid by starting quarterback standards. It's one
of those odd, wow, that makes sense, that's a really
fair deal for both sides kind of situations. Love was
the twenty sixth pick, Andrew Thomas was the fourth overall pick.
His number on the option tom is fourteen million at
tackle and.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Andrew the going rate for top offensive lineman top tackles
as well over twenty million dollars per year. So one
of those no brain types of situations for the Giants
on Andrew Thomas, who started forty four games over his
three seasons, has never missed the game because of injury
and has played every single snap in all but two
of those games over those first three seasons. Here, obviously,

(03:00):
they invested heavily in Daniel Jones, their quarterback earlier this offseason.
You need to keep him protected. Andrew Thomas a big
part of that. He would certainly anticipate that Joe Shane
and company are going to want to get a long
term deal done at some point with Andrew Thomas. But
they got Saquon Barkley they're still working through here as
he's on the franchise tag. They got Dexter Lawrence, who
they would like to get an extension done with as well.

(03:22):
Andrew Thomas's time will come, but by exercising the option,
they've got him under contract to the team for at
least the next two seasons.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
All right, let's move to a veteran. Let's move to
DeAndre Hopkins. Romani Austin Ford. The new Cardinals GM made
clear last week he did not expect a Hopkins trade
during the draft. That did not happen. Yesterday, Hopkins was
on his Instagram and it appeared as if he was
at least in Arizona, but maybe even in the building, saying,
who said, I wanted to get out of here?

Speaker 2 (03:49):
What's the latest there, Andrew.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
What we know at this point is that the Arizona
Cardinals certainly have had conversations about trading DeAndre Hopkins, but
it's a complicated deal. A little bit older player who
has battled injuries and has a big number on the
books for twenty twenty three. You of course have looked
around the league and seen other receivers. Let's talk about
Odell Beckham Junior getting fifteen million dollars guaranteed on his

(04:15):
one year deal with the Ravens. If you're DeAndre Hopkins,
who does not have an agent but has some financial advisors,
you're looking at that and saying, why am I going
to play for anything less than what I'm duing, which
is seventeen million dollars in change in twenty twenty three.
That complicates a trade. It is certainly possible that Arizona
could work out a deal. And if Beaar's mentioning here Andrew,

(04:35):
look at what Manti asin For did during the draft.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
There was a big i cast toward twenty twenty four.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
In that initial trade down with the Texans, he picked
up a first round pick and a third round pick
in next year's draft. The Cardinals also made another trade
later in the draft that netted them yet another twenty
twenty four third round pick. So to the extent that
some teams, if this were a different team or a
different year, might go, hey, we need those picks in
the twenty twenty three draft for Arizona. It's fairly apparent

(05:02):
this is a big picture type of a rebuild, and
so moving Downdre Hopkins sometime between now and the start
of training camp certainly is not the question. And we'll
give them even more draft capital and next year's draft.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Yeah, and the the OBJ contract. It's great to mention
that you can't forget that because no one thought he
was going to get fifteen million, nobody, but then he did.
And then to your point, if you're DeAndre Hopkins saying, well,
then why should I take a pick that guy barely
has played the.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Last two years? Right?

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Let's move on to the to the rookie class from
this past weekend, two hundred and fifty nine players were drafted.
Tom We now, drum roll, please have the first of
the two point fifty nine to sign a contract.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
This is always an interesting moment, Andrew, as the first
one of the basically pre negotiated contracts gets done. Remember,
since twenty eleven, all these have been slotted types of deals.
There are various things in terms of cash flow, bonuses,
offset language, et cetera, that can slow down certain negotiations.
And certainly if you don't have movement or somebody signs overslot,

(06:03):
which happened with some teams last year, that that can
slow things down. But no fear from the Panthers here.
They move quickly to get Jamie Robinson done again. All
these are slotted types of deals. Everything is in the
rookie pool. The teams are allowed to spend here. So
I would anticipate if you got one done, the Panthers might.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Be the ones trying to be the first ones.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Done with their entire rookie class, which of course begins
with that number one overall.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Pick Bryce Young?

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Right who will where number nine? The Panthers made that
announcement today, Bryce Young, Jersey nine. Matt Corral switches from
nine to two. For those scoring at home, Tom pell Sero,
thank you, sir, our NFL.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Are you ready? All right?

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Alright, alright, Bryce Young, Welcome to the National Football League,
Bryce Young, C. J.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Stroud real inter Houston Texans aren't messing around, guys. I
love it, Jack Hot, Hot hot hot.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Guess what Joan Lovely you have.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
To mohill for you? Did I say something he went
through the first night you did not get drafted?

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Who are the Titans coming up? Again, just truly a
moment of suspense right now. But Tennessee Titans select, We'll
love it.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Last night was long, his night to night quite short. Yeah,
tell me about Yeah we got.

Speaker 5 (07:17):
To pole, Yeah right.

Speaker 6 (07:19):
Up, skin a night we can't.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
We waded a fight, yeah right up the towels we
got to.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
That is a plot twist.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
TJS, you just got destroyed. He is a game changer,
He's a field changer. I remember this moment. You know
what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Always remember the.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Draft because it obviously has an effect.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
On the coming season. There are a few guarantees in.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
Life, death taxes, those things. Also, a team going worse
than first, it basically happened every single year. Matter of fact,
that Jaguars had the number one overall pick of consecutive
years and last year they want a playoff game. So,
because it is the off season, and because this is
what we do post draft, lands Airline, Steve White, we
sit here and say, who's.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Going to go worse to first this year?

Speaker 1 (08:07):
But Lance, I'm going to give you a little bit
of leeway here. I'm gonna make it a two year proposition. Okay, okay,
so teams kind of down here, give me your first
one that could go worse to first in the next
two years.

Speaker 7 (08:20):
Well, I think the Houston Texans are one team that
you look at and you start with the division, right
because the division is not a strong division other than
the Jaguars. But the Jaguars still have some questions. I mean,
they had a nice run, but we've seen teams take
a spike and in go back down. We saw when
Drew Brees first joined the Saints then there was a
little bit of a client and then you know he
climbed back up, and the Saints obviously climb back up.

(08:42):
So you've added the energy and the juice from Demico Ryants.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
You've got a quarterback the CJ. Stroud, who I think
is a very good fit in that offense.

Speaker 7 (08:49):
A pass rusher with great football temperament and character and leadership,
and Will Anderson.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
I think the Texans could be a team to keep
your eye on.

Speaker 7 (08:57):
As they have they still have a good first round
pick next year from Cleveland coming, they still have additional
draft capital, and they've got money to spend in the offseason.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
I think the Texans are a team to keep your
eye on.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
I really like this.

Speaker 8 (09:07):
I really like the Texans in the situation in part
because you do look at the rest of the division,
right Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
You mentioned it.

Speaker 8 (09:14):
In seventeen, they were the AFC Championship and didn't go
back to the playoffs since Plus, that's when they're going
to have to be spend their money to pay Trevor Lawrence.
So we'll see who what other key players may have
to leave that roster. And then Tennessee is probably going
to it be making a quarterback switch, if not this season,
after next season, so they could be breaking in a
new quarterback and the Colts they could be a team
right there with the Texans competing for that spot for

(09:36):
number two. For the purpose of this exercise, we're talking
worse to first.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Okay, worse to first? What about a team in Chicago.
Lance has a lot of people, I know you're one
of them, like what Ryan Poles and the Bears did
last week.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
I really do.

Speaker 7 (09:50):
And it's not just about last week, it's about this
entire offseason. They added Tremaine Edmonds in the middle of
that defense, give them some speed, and now you've added
two defensive tackles in the draft with Dexter and Pickings,
you go get Tyreek Stevenson a cornerback, which is a
position you need. Darnell Right the big bully at right tackle,
and I think growth from the quarterback position is just

(10:10):
something that typically happens. And I think we're going to
see a better passing attack and a more confident passer
with justin fields. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Ryan Poles,
as part of his trade back from one to nine,
ended up adding Dj Moore, a legitimate.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Wide receiver one candidate.

Speaker 7 (10:25):
Let's not forget the draft capital that the Chicago Bears
have over the next year to two years is really substantial.
So Aaron Rodgers out of the division, Kirk Cousins has
a year left on the contract, I think you can
see a potential ascension and maybe a faster ascension that
people are ready for in Chicago.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
You know that I agree with you. There's going to
be an ascension. But the Detroit Lions are the team
to me. They're not in the.

Speaker 8 (10:49):
Last place, but that's going to be the team to
knock off. I think they can be the team to
be in the NFC North this year and for years coming.
And I look at their draft and all the talent
they accrued, even though all the controversy seeming of where
they picked that talent and would order value whatever. That
to me is a team on the rise, and that's
the team that could stop the Bears from reaching that
first place mark.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Okay, so we have two teams here that are in
the top ten and the draft. Two teams that are
obvious Hey, yeah, maybe they have a good long term
future here. This other one, lance that you have that
you think can go worse to first in the next
two years is a bit different. This is a team
that won seven games last year.

Speaker 7 (11:27):
Yeah, and it's the division there in you know, the Steelers,
the Ravens, the Bengals, so obviously they're in a very
competitive division. But I think the Cleveland Browns are going
to take that move up now. Obviously this year, I
like the picks they made. They didn't have as much
draft capital, but they added Cedric Tillman, who I think
is just a highly underrated wide receiver prospect, a big,
physical ball winner, and that's something that I think Deshaun

(11:49):
Watson's going to love since he loved that when he
had DeAndre Hopkins in Houston. I think we're going to
see a better version of Deshaun Watson. I like the
fact that they added a couple big men.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
And Dwan Jones at.

Speaker 7 (11:59):
Right tackling siaki Ika, the defensive.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
Tackle from Baylor.

Speaker 7 (12:03):
So when you really start to add the fact that
you're getting what should be a much better version of
Deshaun Watson, and you look at the additions that they
have of specifically Cedric.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Tillman, a running game that I think is going to
be good.

Speaker 7 (12:16):
I think the Cleveland Browns technically they were worst, but
I think they're going to be a major factor in
the division.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Obviously, the Bengals are the big boys. To keep your
eye on the Browns this year.

Speaker 8 (12:26):
Yeah, and all these three teams were talking about, I
think the Browns are the team that could make that
move the quickest, you know, because some of the pieces
they already have in place, namely the quarterback. They make
a change at defensive coordinator. That's where some of the
games broke down on them last year. So we'll see
if that changes things. But Cleveland's a team I don't
think we're talking about enough. I'm sure we have all
somemmer to do to see who could be the team
that threatens the Bengals. In the NFC North. I think

(12:48):
Cleveland's going to be right there. I really agree with.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
This, and again I think think this could happen quicker
in two years.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
And it does happen, as we mentioned, every single year
there is a team that goes worse to first. So
those are your early candidates. Thank you, lancer.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Alan.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Let's continue and talk about the Tampa Bay Buccaneer here,
not the nineteenth pick, but just how much our hearts
hurt collectively today for that man Shack Barrett, who and
his wife Jordana lost their two year old daughter this
past weekend. It happened Sunday morning when little Ariah, who
just turned to just had a birthday, drowned in the

(13:23):
family pool, drowned in the backyard pool. Statement from the
Buccaneers on Sunday, our thoughts and prayers there were Shacked,
Jordana and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time. Well,
no words can provide true comfort at a times such
as this. We offer our support and love as they
begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Riah.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Sarah Walsh with us.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Now Sarah, like I said, she just turned two, like
the photos on Shaq's instagram of this little girl with
her birthday a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
It is just heartbreaking.

Speaker 9 (13:57):
There's no other way to describe it. And I can
tell you from this community in Tampa, when this news
came out, people are horrified, their heartbroken, and that doesn't
even begin to scratch the surface of what the Barrett
family is feeling. What I can tell you is if
you ask anyone in that Buccaneers building to describe Shack Barrett,
he's described as a family man. And that's not something

(14:19):
that's being thrown around because of what happened this week.
You talked about his instagram. You can look at that instagram.
It is littered with pictures of nothing but his family.
The last thing he posted and you touched on this
was a tribute to his daughter who passed away on Sunday.
People are in shock.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
There's just no way to explain it.

Speaker 9 (14:38):
You don't have to be an NFL fan, you don't
have to be a Buccaneers fan. There's not a parent
that took their kid to school on Monday morning and
wasn't talking about what happened here, because it really touches
people on a different level. Of course, we have not
understandably heard from Shack or his wife. They haven't said anything.
The Buccaneers put out that statement. This is someone that

(14:58):
moved here in twenty nineteen when he signed with the
Buccaneers and embraced being part of the Tampa Bay community.
In that first year, he had nineteen and a half sacks.
The family moved here. They had four children. Ariyah was
born just a couple of months after he won that
Super Bowl. This is really tough on all levels. It
obviously supersedes football. Shack is regularly seen around that facility

(15:19):
in the offseason. He was working his way back from
a torn achilles suffered last football season, and he's also
known for being just this positive force on the defense.
Even when he got hurt, he had a smile on
his face when you saw him in the building. He
immediately posted, I'm not in pain.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
I'm coming back.

Speaker 9 (15:35):
And this is just something that there is nothing that
can prepare you for dealing with something like this. I
even thought about in the last couple of days, had
even come on TV and talk about it, and what
are the right things to say? And there are no
right things, because there is nothing right now that is
going to make this any more understandable to anyone that
learns about this story. So I would just say that collectively,

(15:57):
as someone that lives in the Tampa Bay area and
is in this community, if this community could wrap their
arms around Shaq Barrett and his Bami, they would do
that right now.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
And it had and it has since day one since,
as you said, since he moved from Denver there with
his family. Our condolences from all of us here at
NFL Network, in the NFL Media Group, as well to
Shack Barrett, his wife, Georgana, and their beautiful family. Thank you,
Sarah Walsh there live in Tampa. NFL now continues.

Speaker 9 (16:29):
Rinney.

Speaker 5 (16:30):
First pick in the twenty twenty three NFL Draft, the
Carolina Panthers select Ryce Young.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Media rights Young Friend what is striped? The Houston Texans
select CJ.

Speaker 5 (16:42):
Stroud Burnback Hey touch down thirty one yards CJ.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Strout.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
The Indian would select Indony Brats.

Speaker 10 (16:54):
The Tennessee Titans select Will Levin, Burnbacks.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
Levens fires throws at dark.

Speaker 11 (17:00):
Your teammates don't care where you were drafted, whether it
was a meurs your second round.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
They care if you can come in and help one
football game.

Speaker 10 (17:06):
So Detroit Lions select Endon Hooker, which quarterback Tennesseeason.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
There's the throw, there's the tucks back to the same
hooker's back.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
They went to the.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Second round, and he thought they might go in the first.
And then the board falls the way it falls, and
now Will Levis is a tight and and ended Hooker
is a Lion. They are second round picks.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Where neither is being asked to start.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Immediately week one in twenty twenty three? Which guy is
in the better situation? About the path to the draft
through rest like a second to last day of school?

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Hi, what's up? Friends? Path to the draft?

Speaker 12 (17:45):
Now?

Speaker 11 (17:45):
Taking a look in the rearview mirror, Red Lewis, Bucky Brooks,
as the dust is settling on the two hundred and
fifty nine selections in the twenty twenty three NFL Draft,
fourteen of which ended up as quarterbacks. Three on Day one,
Two intriguing selections on Day two, and that's.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Where we begin.

Speaker 11 (18:03):
Which quarterback on two you had Will Levis going to
the second round of the Titans, Hindon Hooker going in
the third round of the Detroit Lions. Do you think
ended up in a better situation?

Speaker 12 (18:12):
Book.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
Oh, Will Levison's up in a better situation. The situation
is great for him because he has an opportunity to
really be the longtime starter in Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
You think about what they did.

Speaker 5 (18:22):
To move up to get him at the top of
the second round, and now he steps into a situation
where he has a two time rushing chap and Derrick
Henry behind him. Physical running game will set up play
action passes.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
When you look at his game, his game.

Speaker 5 (18:34):
Is not necessarily about accuracy and picking you apart. It's
about big time plays. As an athlete with supreme arm talent. Well,
now that you're running the ball with the down here
running game playmakers on the outside, this should serve will
Levis will he should be able to grow into that
role as the start.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Yeah went and helped him out a little bit.

Speaker 11 (18:50):
Maybe down the line, Peter Scronski comes over and then
you get of course ty J. Spears, and you get
the tight end and Wiley as well. Up to light
there about the Titans in their pick of Will Levis,
but I think that Hindon Hooker is set up in
a better situation to succeed Jared goff Is there will
be the starter this year. Ending Hooker with the knee injury,

(19:13):
We'll have plenty of time to get that thing right,
to get accustomed to life and football in Detroit, and
then we can talk about the potential of becoming the
face of the franchise. And when we do, he'll be
staring at guys like a Manra Saint Brown, guys like
Jamier Gibbs who were brought in this year ahead of
him to continue to help support that offensive structure with

(19:37):
the Lions. I think there's a lot to like about
ending Hooker on a team that is sending a culture
that is ready for a player that is as mature
as he is and is ready to be a face
of the franchise when called one. I really like Hndon
Hooker ending up there in Detroit, So those two quarterbacks
end up in pretty good spots there in Day two.
Just great to have the quarterbacks back part of the

(19:58):
conversation early in the draft. Three in the first four
and common Draft era record eleven in the first one fifties.
So fun weekend for the quarterbacks. Be sure to join
us Tuesday and Wednesday night, six pm Eastern Time as
we continue looking back on the twenty twenty three NFL Draft.

Speaker 7 (20:16):
With the thirty first pick of the twenty twenty three
NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Felix and your.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
D k Uzama.

Speaker 6 (20:26):
The Kansas City chief select Ross Shee Rice wide receiver SMU.
With the ninety second pick in the twenty twenty three
NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select je Ye Morris
tackle from Oklahoma.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
Yeah, they had a party in Kansas City, not just
the draft, but.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
They liked who they picked as well.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
A hometown draft here for the defending champions, Tef White
and Jeff Gidia with me from Casey, where all the
eyes and the focus have been on Fau at thirty one.
What are they saying about Rashi Rice here and what
he gives Patrick Mahomes that offense.

Speaker 12 (21:06):
Well, they love Rashid Rice Andrew because when you talk
about a team that just lost Juju Smith Schusch to
their really true possession wide receiver, they wanted to find
somebody who could fit into that role. And certainly takes
receivers a little bit of time to pick up Andy
Reid's offense, but this kid looks like he could be
special for them. He's great. After the catch. He's a
great contested catch guy, really good size, not the greatest

(21:29):
feed in the world.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
But again, they wanted somebody.

Speaker 12 (21:30):
Who could move the chains and be that kind of
player who could fit in with the sky Moores, the
Cadarius Tony's people like that. So Brett Beech, the Gerald manager, said,
he feels like this guy when the ball gets in
his hands, he's like a running back and Steve, you know,
the guy to win the passes. All he has to
do is get the ball these guys that they can
make plays for.

Speaker 8 (21:48):
Yeah, absolutely, that's how Andy reives offense works. But Jeff,
the one thing we saw again with the Chiefs is
they tag defense hard for the second straight year in
the draft, getting two edge guys, getting two secondary guys.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
I mean, this is where they went the year before.

Speaker 8 (22:01):
So you know they're developing guys to fill in for
players who might not be there the following year. And
also they understand these are two positions, especially the fact
that they went back to the cornerback well after doing
it last season, and the edge, well, they know what
division that they play in the quarterbacks that they're going
to be playing against, you've got to have a surplus
of edge rushers, and you've got to have a surplus

(22:24):
of defensive backs to roll through because you're going to
be facing Russell Wilson and Justin Herbert in that division,
now Jimmy Garoppolo.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
So again they've got an.

Speaker 8 (22:33):
Eye on keeping things in winning ways, but also stacking
that defense through the draft in the secondary, so they
could continue to build and roll knowing the quarterbacks are
going to be facing for years.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
All right, those are the Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
How about now they're nemesis in the AFC, the Cincinnati Bengals.
Their draft class has a theme here. It's a defensive
run early and then that offensive run in the middle.
You go Miles Murphy, DJ Turner and George Battle the
Alabama DV and now Charlie Jones and Chase Brown one
of the Brown twins from Illinois and andre Yoshiva Steve

(23:05):
Princeton wide receiver. Gidia. What stands out to you here?

Speaker 12 (23:11):
I love the day three picks there, especially Charlie Jones
and four and Chase Brown at five because it speaks
to how much this franchise has grown and the luxury
they have on Draft Day now because they can go
out and get players that can fill roles immediately or
they can fill roles that'll be available down the road.
And with Charlie Jones, you have a receiver there who
was really dynamic in the Big Ten last year. Great

(23:33):
catching the football. I mean, this guy really dropped anything.
And he could be the kind of guy who replaces
a Tyler Boyd when Boys countract is up next year.
Is a slot guy. And then Chase Brown you see
here second to the league in the country and rushing
Zach Taylor. He coach talked about how he really fits
into what they want to do. There, a guy who's
got great vision, great balance, great pass blocker, great pass catcher,

(23:53):
Steve They.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Got a lot of guys here.

Speaker 12 (23:55):
You do a lot of things for a team that's
already pretty good.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
Absolutely. You know.

Speaker 8 (23:59):
Look, I love the fact that they go Dj Turner
at corner, right his teammates, former teammates already on the
field at safety who they drafted last year. Dax Shiale
is gonna take over for Jesse Bates. So now there's
some familiarity. They know they've got some good starters in
those positions. But again, they can start grooming these guys
to be rotational players, to add this speed right that

(24:19):
they're getting at someone like Turner. That's gonna help knowing
the receivers that they're gonna have to face coming along
the way.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Odell Beckham junior knock knock.

Speaker 8 (24:26):
He's in that division the season, So there's some players there.
And they continued to add to the secondary Jordan Battle
safety out of Alabama.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
This is a heck of a player.

Speaker 8 (24:35):
And again they're looking at some of the players that
they have on the roster who they could be replacing
in future years and to add someone like him who
could come in and play a lot of different roles.
You can be your heavy nickel, he can play in
the safety, a rotational player who's also.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
Going to be willing to play in the kicking game.

Speaker 8 (24:49):
They've done a fantastic job of stocking their roster in
the draft, knowing they've got some big contracts Joey Burrow,
Jamar Chase, some guys are gonna have to pay so
to get this many talented players on rookie deals, that's huge.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
That's great thinking boy, Duke Tobin and that staff.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
And they do that with t Higgins still in the
payroll and Joe Mixon still on the payroll, and Zach
Taylor said after the draft they want Joe Mixon there,
but that.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Is a very big number for him.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
Similar situation for Frank.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Steve White Beck, Jeff Jdea.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Everybody remembers the draft because then we go back for
years we try to figure out who did right and
who did wrong. And now we can do that right now,
only three days with the draft in the rear view.
Mary Trevor Sycamore joins us from PFF. Trevor, great to
have you on. As always, Let's look at the Cardinals draft.
Paris Johnson will go down as their first round pick
this season, but what Mani Austin Ford did is much

(25:46):
bigger than just taking an old lineman from Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
No, there's no doubt about it.

Speaker 10 (25:50):
It's a new era in Arizona. I absolutely loved what
Austin Ford was able to do in his first draft
as general manager.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
I mean, first and foremost.

Speaker 10 (25:58):
I'm pretty sure they would have picked Paris Johnson at
number three overall, and instead he's not afraid to move back,
then move up again, and at the end of the
day he gets the player he would have selected at
three three spots lower and has an extra first rounder
and third rounder next year. Now they got two first
rounders in twenty twenty four, a second rounder, and three
third rounders. That is huge for a draft class that

(26:21):
has a ton of promise. Of course, Paris just helps
them in general. This is the thirtieth ranked offensive line
according to PFF grades last year. So you get a
really talented young offensive lineman in there who you're hoping
you could have for at least the next half decade
for the Arizona to get to that winning window once again.
We know it's going to be a while, but he's
a really good cornerstone piece, and so are the other

(26:42):
three guys that they drafted right after that too. I
think they could have four starters from the first four
picks they made in this past draft. It was a
fantastic call frozen four in his first year.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Yeah, and then you're sitting there next year with even
more draft capital.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
And I'm not saying it's a lock.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
They have two top five picks next year. It could
be ten to twenty, who knows, but they have two
first round picks next season. Continue to build. Let's talk
about the Giants first round pick a couple of days ago.
Here at Trevor, why do you think Deontay Banks is
such a good fit there?

Speaker 3 (27:13):
From Wink Martindale.

Speaker 10 (27:14):
This is not just a good fit, this is a
perfect fit. I love Deontay Banks because of the type
of corner he is in man coverage. He has the
athletic ability, the body type, and the play style to say,
all right, we're gonna point this wide receiver out, you
go cover him and you make sure he doesn't catch
any passes. That is what Deontay Banks is and that's
how the Giants played don Wig Martindale, he called cover

(27:36):
zero and cover one of those man coverage concepts more
than any team in the NFL last year as accumulation
those two those two person nugger beings, and that's the
exact kind of corner he is. That's the guy that
they needed if they want to get aggressive up front
the linebacker level and at the line of scrimmage, you
have to have the corners to be able to match
up in man coverage. They just got another good one
and this was a perfect fit for me.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
I love this selection.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
Brandon Beian said yesterday on the radio on Sirius XAM
that they didn't want to lose Dalton Kincaid. I mean,
that's why they flipped the and moved up to get him.
How does he change what Josh Allen is doing.

Speaker 10 (28:10):
Yeah, I didn't even know if Dalon kin k was
going to be available within striking distance, and once he was,
it makes total sense for the Bills to kind of
come up and get it.

Speaker 12 (28:17):
Now.

Speaker 10 (28:17):
It's a little bit of a change in strategy from
what they were last year. They already have Dawston Knock,
they already gave him a good contract. We know he's
going to be a big part of their offense. But
the Buffalo Bills actually played twelve personnel, so multiple tight ends.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
The least in the NFL. Last year, only.

Speaker 10 (28:32):
Eight percent of their personnel snaps came from multi tenand
sets at twelve personnel, so only one hundred snaps there.
And your figure they're going to get Daldon Kinkaid and
Dawston Knocks on the field at the same time, so
it's going to be a little bit of a different
look Bill's offense with KINGK there now. So I'm wondering
how much.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
They push into that. Is this just going to be
a whole new identity for them?

Speaker 10 (28:53):
Are they really going to lean into multiple tight ends
or is it going to be a little bit less.
They just want to make sure they're incredibly effective when
they do call that twelve personnel don Kink. No matter
what percentage it is, he's going to help him out.
One of the best receiving tight ends that we had
in this dram.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Maybe it cuts out of the red zone turnovers with
another big target there in the red zone.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
In Dalton Kincaid.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
Thank you, Trevor Sikima. Check out PFF dot com, PFF app.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Thanks appreciate it. Coming to the floor.

Speaker 10 (29:19):
I won.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
I'm ripping off the best I.

Speaker 7 (29:21):
Was on the floor.
