Speaker 1 (00:10):
The preseason is underway and training camps rolling on across
the NFL. Josh Allen in the stadium tonight playing catch
with some Bills fans ahead of their practice event. The
Seahawks and Sam Darnold are on the field, the Buccaneers
as well as the Giants. So much action, Let's cover
it over the next sixty minutes. Welcome inside with the insiders.

(00:34):
That is Judy Batista, that is Ian Rappaport, who is
outside that Bill's practice. I'm Tom Pillicero here in Tampa.
We will get to all the teams that we just
showed you, and a whole lot more. We find ourselves
thirty four days out from the regular season kickoff game
between the Cowboys and Eagles, and now we have some

(00:56):
new questions about whether Micah Parsons is even going to
be there. Earlier today, Michaeh Parsons announcing in a statement
on social media that he has personally requested a trade
away from the Dallas Cowboys. This following months of on
and mostly off negotiations between Parsons and the team. He

(01:17):
showed up at the start of training camp. You can
see in that video he has been engaged, but as
he wrote on social media. Unfortunately, I no longer want
to be here. I no longer want to be held
to closed door negotiations without my agent president.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
I no longer want shots taken to.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Me for getting injured while laying on the line for
the organization, our fans, and my teammates. I no longer
want narratives created and spread to the media about me.
My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally.
There is a ton more to that statement, ton more
to unpack. For that, we will bring in our Jane
Slater to the conversation as well.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Ian. Let's start with you.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
It is August first, when Michah Parsons decides to press
the nuclear button with the Cowboys organization.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Why now.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Nuclear button is correct?

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Once Micah Parsons says very publicly as he does, that
he does not want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Look, he could go back.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
We have seen teams work out a deal in these circumstances,
but it is a challenge and no doubt it would
take a lot. Micah Parsons tried. He tried. He told
the Cowboys several times that he wanted to be a
member of the organization long term. He's got a really
good podcast. He said it plenty of times on that too.
He wants to be a member of the Dallas Cowboys

(02:35):
his entire career, even against the advice of his agent,
David Mulligata. He wanted to do a deal earlier rather
than later to make sure it got done, to make
sure he stayed. The Cowboys have really not engaged absince
and I know Jane's going to get into this. The
conversation with Micah Parsons and Jerry Jones, where Micah thought
they're having a conversation, Jerry Jones thought they were negotiating,

(02:56):
and that partially led to the disconnect. It just seemed
like Micah had had enough, he had done everything he
possibly could. Hit the button now hit send demands a trade.
So what might a trade actually look like for the
Dallas Cowboys. I've talked to Stephen Jones about this personally.
Trading Micah Parsons is something, at least in December when

(03:18):
I spoke to him and cited him in a story
at endavall dot com. It is something at least they
have considered because about top heavy their team is salary wise,
but to do it now. It would mean that they're
looking toward the future rather than now. It would mean
they value the two number one overall two number one picks,
which they.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Likely would get.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
It would mean someone else would have to give Micah Parsons,
make Michael Parsons the highest paid non quarterback in the NFL,
and it would mean the Cowboys would have to replace him.
That's a lot. It's not impossible, but it is an
absolute lot. And by Micah Parsons hitting that button today,
it forced us Jane to consider all of those options.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
Yeah, and you know, I taught to you a number
of people closest to you, going all the way back
to the spring.

Speaker 6 (04:02):
And here's what I can tell you.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
It's August first, and there has been absolutely no offer
or contract negotiation in writing exchange between these two guys.

Speaker 6 (04:13):
I know about you.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
We've covered a number of contracts. This is sort of unprecedented.
But I'm getting multiple sides of this story, so typically
the truth is somewhere here in the middle.

Speaker 6 (04:27):
Here is what I'm being told.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
There were conversations that began in late March early April
that started with Jerry Jones prompting Micah Parsons to come
to his office and they wanted to discuss leadership.

Speaker 6 (04:41):
At some point.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
They got into what a contract would or could look like,
after Micah had explained some of the things that he wanted.
It's my understanding that Jerry said, yep, let's sign off
on it. One side says that whatever that offer was
and the number wasn't for to me, that it would
have made him the highest defensive player.

Speaker 6 (05:03):
At that position.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
That has been disputed by some sides because some sides
alleged because there was actually no contract offer and nothing
in writing, and since then there have been no ongoing
negotiations that how can we talk about what that number
would have been if we actually never saw it in writing.
Then I was also told that there was sort of

(05:27):
this implied threat that if something didn't get done, then
a trade could be on the table. And as you
can see today, Micah Parsons, clearly frustrated, put out a
statement that he essentially feels disrespected by this organization because
he and good Faith went into the owner's office, they talked,

(05:48):
but then it was not honored visa a exchange with.

Speaker 6 (05:53):
His agent to put this in writing.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
One person with knowledge argued back that they were told
by the agent that they wouldn't even be negotiating until
they were one of the last ones at the table,
after all the defensive ends had gotten their deals done.
So it is a whole bunch of information points of
views how we got here. But I will tell you, guys,

(06:16):
I've covered a lot of contentious contracts as it relates
to the Cowboys.

Speaker 6 (06:21):
It can be frustrating at times, and a lot of
times I.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
Say, oh, they're going to figure it out. Micah Parsons
is a little bit of a different dude here. I
don't know if I've ever seen a player come out
and as you said, he has sort of hit the
nuclear button typically we don't drop the bombs around here,
and ends up with diplomacy.

Speaker 6 (06:39):
He fully knew what he was doing.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
He is remaining at camp by the way, And I
don't know about you, guys. I've been in the crosshairs
of Jerry and Stephen Jones and they can make things
very uncomfortable.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
So I got to think it's a little bit uncomfortable
for him.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
But he did sit on that statement for a few days,
but felt like this was the time to do it.

Speaker 6 (06:57):
He felt disrespected.

Speaker 7 (07:01):
Well, that comes across in the message that he put out,
because it is very personal in tone. He enumerates all
the things that he believes Jerry Jones, did you know,
talking about his injuries, negotiating without his agent in the room,
putting out narratives about Mica into the media. It was

(07:22):
very much felt like a personal shot at Jerry Jones.
Clearly Michaeh. Parsons is frustrated, and that's probably the least
of what he is. He sounds mad at this point. Look,
Jerry a few weeks ago said Michael Parsons is one
of the smartest players he's ever dealt with. He knows
his value, his value as a football player, and his

(07:43):
value in terms of finances. So Jerry clearly has respect
for him, not just as a football player, but as
a businessman. And that's saying a lot coming from Jerry Jones. Look,
families argue within each other. What I think is so
noteworthy about this is how very public it is. You
don't usually hear players come out this publicly, and this

(08:05):
pointedly against an owner, especially not an owner like Jerry Jones.
So I think this is unusual.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
I will say this.

Speaker 7 (08:15):
Players have said I don't want to be here. Anymore
and then things have gotten patched up. Miles Garrett just
did it and it worked out fine. He got an
enormous contract out of it, so it's not irreparable. It's
just tougher than it needed to be.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
And I just keep.

Speaker 7 (08:30):
Going back to if they had gotten the contract done
at any point, even not all the way back when
Micah first said he would want to do this contract,
you wouldn't be in this situation, and you wouldn't have
the top heavy situation that they keep having at the
Cowboys because they wait until the eleventh hour to get
all these big contracts done.

Speaker 5 (08:52):
Judy, I could do an hour long podcast on this,
but I'll wrap this up by saying, there is an
implication based on someone that I taught to you that
may be Jerry is frustrated that he had negotiated some
sort of.

Speaker 6 (09:02):
Deal by going straight to Micah to get this thing done.

Speaker 5 (09:06):
But you and I both know Jerry Jones would never
do a deal, a handshake deal with the CEO of
PEPSI without getting his council involved. So that's why this
whole thing is very interesting to me.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Also, Bear's mentioned something and reiterating Jane a point that
you made the fact that Michael Parsons, despite the peace
out tone of that statement, is still in Cowboys camp.
As one person said to me today, why would he leave?
Not only now do the Cowboys have to look at Michaeh.
Parsons great every day, have him have the attention on him,
but also if he were to leave, the rules change

(09:39):
the Cowboys and a drastic measure consent what's called a
five day letter forcing Parsons to come back to camp,
or else they can put him on the reserve left
squad list, sideline him for the entire season, not pay him,
and still own his rights. We're not there yet. There's
some time to go, but Jane, I am taking a while.
Guess he will be on every episode of The Insiders
until this gets resolved.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Thank you very much. It is not the only tense.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Situation in the league, not the only tense situation in
the NFC East Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin officially requested
a trade over the past forty eight hours, This coming
on the heels of his initial holdout, which turned into
a hold in of sorts. Though technically he's on the
physically unable to perform lists because of an ankle injury

(10:23):
suffered at the tail end of last season, did rehab
early in the off season. This is a situation ian
where everybody can yell pay the man, and on some
level maybe the Commanders are willing to do that, but
it seems abutt only clear at this point they would
only be willing to do that on their terms, and
it doesn't seem like that's anywhere near the types of
terms Terry McLaurin would want in order to sign a

(10:46):
new contract extension.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
That's exactly right.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
I mean, the fact that Terry McLaurin does not have
a new conscience the contract is not for lack of
effort from the Commanders.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
They have tried to negotiate with.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Terry mclaurin's agent, Buddy Baker, to get a new deal
down that with more properly cop say them and give
him a really really nice third act, third contract for
his career. They just disagree on value, and they disagree greatly.
It's very clear to me Terry mccaorran wants to be
paid thirty three million dollars per year, maybe even more
that DK metcalf got. They're in the same draft class,

(11:17):
they have similar stats, different kind of receivers, and McLaurin
is older, but.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
That is what he wants.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
It does not seem that Washington as of right now
wants to pay him like that. So McLaurin has demanded
a trade, and what we've heard from the Commanders has
been nothing. And that's interesting because you know that if
there are teams interested in trading for Terry mccallran, that
at the very least they are calling General Manager Adam Peters, who,
by the way, did take several contracts down to the

(11:45):
wire with the forty nine Ers.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
This is not anything new for him.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
But if there is interest, if teams are calling the
Washington Commanders, how do they handle that and what do
they say publicly and privately. Still plenty of more information
we need on mccloran.

Speaker 7 (12:00):
You know, this is the first bit of rough water
that the new era of the Commanders have encountered. It's
all been positive, it's all been feel good vibes since
new ownership took over. They got the right coach, the
right GM, certainly the right quarterback. They make the run
to the NFC Championship game. They put all of these
pieces around Jaden Daniels. This offseason, and now this with

(12:23):
really arguably one of the most popular players on the
team and certainly the face of the franchise until Jaden
and Daniels got there, who was a positive face of
the franchise and a positive leader through some very very
difficult years at the Commanders. Let's also be clear, in
football terms, they are a diminished team if Terry McLaurin

(12:43):
is not on that team. He was a key part
of Jade Daniels' rookie season and he finished the season
with the career high numbers in TD reception, so they
would miss him as a wide receiver, they would miss
him as a leader. Again, this is not a rougher,
but because they are so far apart and they don't
agree on value, you do wonder if they can cobble

(13:05):
together some sort of compromise deal in time to get
Terry mcluurin. It's hard to imagine Terry mcluurin playing anywhere else.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Honestly, Terry mcluurin said many times he only wants to
play for the Commanders. But like so many other players,
you do reach a point where, well, if you're not
going to pay me anything close to what I think
I'm worth, then trade me to someplace that will down
here in Tampa. I did not get to see quarterback
Baker Mayfield. He hit his hand on a shoulder pad

(13:32):
on a follow through early in practice on Thursday. My
understanding it is he finished out the practice, then when
underwent a battery of tests, they ruled out any type
of a significant injury. Todd Bowles sat down with us
on inside training camp live said he'll probably be a
day Mayfield be back out there, just a contusion. They're
being cautious, but he will be out there very soon.
As for what else we saw, well, Kyle Trash was

(13:54):
getting the ball to the likes of a Mecca BUCA today,
a very deep Buccaneers wide receiver group, even at a
time where Chris Godwin has not yet gotten onto the field,
sounds like everything trending in the right direction. Godwin right
now is a headed tristan works in terms of his recovery.
Both players expected back at some point, but Toad Bowles
didn't want to put any types of timelines on it.

(14:17):
Certainly a BUKA, if not an insurance policy, gives the
Bucks the ability to be patient with Godwin and getting
back on the field, Judy.

Speaker 7 (14:26):
Some news on the quarterback front in Cleveland. Kenny Pickett,
who had missed a few days of practice with a
hamstring injury, return today. He practiced on a limited basis.
He didn't work in the team periods, but he did
do individual work. So that's certainly a step in the
right direction for Pickett. Frankly, time is of the essence
for him. He is in a quarterback battle with Joe

(14:47):
Flacco for the starting job, and then of course there
are the rookies Dylan Gabriel and Shador Sanders also in
the quarterback competition. Right now, as we've been saying all along,
you got to give the edge to Flacco since he
has had success with the Browns and Kevin Stefanski. And
Kevin Stefanski has made it clear he'd like to make
a decision on this sooner rather than later, although Andrew

(15:09):
Berry has also said he would be open to keeping
all four quarterbacks on the roster. We will see, but
certainly it is important for Kenny pickettch you get back
on the field and practicing fully as soon as possible. Ian.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
Meanwhile, here in Buffalo, one of the guys we did
see on the field.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Was that guy right there, James Cook.

Speaker 4 (15:28):
They're a star running back, one of the most productive
players on their offense, and really one of the more
a fan favorite, big time fan favorite in the stadium
right behind me where they are having a very spirited,
intense practice. We've spent a lot of time talking about
holdings and holdouts and contracts, nothing involving James Cook.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
He is there, he is ready.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
According to Shaun McDermott told me earlier today, he is
in great shape and he has been really impressed with
his football character and other character. We'll see if James
Cook gets paid eventually. The Bills curly have a number
clear right now, whether the two sides could make it happen,
but just him as a player, just him as a player.
It is evident this is someone the organization values greatly. Meanwhile,

(16:12):
coming up on the Insiders, that was a lot plenty
to chew on there. We got a little bit more
with our good friend Bridget Condon, who is hanging out
with Seattle and that guy right there, Sam Donald. We
don't need to talk about Sam Donald's contract situation anymore.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
He is locked in in Seattle.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
But what else can we get from our good friend,
Bridget stay tuned and find out, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Some news tonight out of Los Angeles, potentially a reunion
with Keenan Allen, the six time Pro Bowl wide receiver
is in LA. I'm told right now, as he and
I have reported earlier today, to meet with the Chargers.
There is mutual interest in a potential reunion. Of course,
Mike Williams retired recently unexpectedly. He was a former Charger

(17:00):
who became a new Charger. Could Keenan Allen do the same?
One of the top free agents still available. We'll be
tracking that one throughout the course of this show. Last night,
Ken Allen could kick back like all of us and
watch his new maybe and definitely old team in the
Hall of Fame game against the Lions.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Football is back.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
Jared Allen, stirly sharp, Eric Allen, Antonio Gates, the class
of twenty twenty five on hand to watch this one.
Jim Harbaugh, he can't beat up Justin Herbert pregame, He'll
do what to.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Trey Lanson seemed to work.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
This one part was easy handed off to Omari and
Hampton their first round draft pick pick up of eight
yards right there. One of the top rushers in college
football last season. That sets up this Trey Lance with
the nice touch to Will Disley in the end zone.
They're up seven to nothing. Justin Herbert loving it on
the sideline. Of course, the Lion integrated some new coordinators,

(17:49):
Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn Out, John Morton making his debut
as Detroit's new offensive coordinator up in the booth. Lions
down seven to nothing at this point. Kyle Allen picked
off by Nico Ree, undrafted free agent. That's one way
to try to make the team. Two interceptions in the
game for Allen, Jared Goff and Dan Campbell looking on
right there. Chargers back on offense now, Trey Lance still

(18:12):
in the game. Great showcase for the former number three
overall draft pick, this time airing it out to KeAndre
and Lambert Smith. Remember that name. You're gonna hear it
again even within this highlight. Packets Charges up fourteen to seven.
Second quarter, third and six, Lance, Lambert Smith and into
the end zone right there. Kelvin Shepherd's Lions defense struggle

(18:33):
to slow down Trey Lance. Don't worry, the real player
is going to be coming back soon. Chargers win thirty
four to seven. That's just the kickoff of Hall of
Fame weekend out in Canton, Ohio. Tomorrow, we got a
special three hour edition of Inside Training Camp Live from
nine to new Eastern, followed by the Hall of Fame
Enshrineman ceremony. Catch it all tomorrow noon Eastern on NFL

(18:57):
Network and streaming on NFL plut.

Speaker 7 (18:59):
Judy, let's go now to one of the prettiest locations
on the training camp circuit, the Seattle Seahawks in Renton, Washington. Listen,
all eyes are on Sam Donald and how he is
settling in with his new team. And his old friend
Clint Kopiak is there, who was with him in San Francisco.
Of course, he had the breakout season last year hybridget

(19:21):
content in Minnesota, and the big question is can that
be replicated in Seattle. Bridget, you have been there all day.
What are your takeaways from the practice.

Speaker 8 (19:30):
Judy, Exactly. A lot of people are wondering what Sam
Donald will look like here with the Seattle Seahawks. Well,
I can tell you. We're sitting just outside of the
locker room and I have a direct line into the
locker room. And after practice, Sam Donald was one of
the few players to go into the weight room. He
was working kind of looked like he was stretching with
the bands for probably about fifteen to twenty minutes. And

(19:51):
that dedication is exactly what head coach Mike McDonald likes
from his quarterback. We asked him just minutes after practice
about Sam Donald and he said he he knew the
kind of player that he was obviously playing up against him,
but it was the person he was that he fell
in love with, and that's who he wants leading his team.
One of the best plays of the day from practice
was Sam Darnold threw Cooper Cup a pass he was

(20:14):
on a slant route. He took it to the house.
The first person to come over in high five Cooper
Cup was Jackson Smith and Jigba. I know a lot
of talk about Cup and Njigba both playing the slot,
but Cup said earlier that they're just fueling each other
and that's how you get better having an elite receiver
like him in the room. But as Mike McDonald enters
year two, some of the things he's looking for Judy

(20:35):
is to be physical, to be tough. Look, this is
a team that a season ago was bottom five in
terms of rushing attempts and rushing yards. He wants to
change that. Kenneth Walker says he's healthy, he's feeling good,
he's eaten better. He's going to bed. Earlier, he said
he was going at one am, and now Judy he's
going to bed at ten. I'm like, I'm going to
bed at eight. I mean, I don't know. Maybe he'll
have his MVP season if he starts going to bed

(20:57):
at eight like the rest of us. But look, they're
doing every thing they can to get better, Judy on offense,
and it shows that chemistry that they're building out here
in Retin.

Speaker 7 (21:06):
All right, let's turn our attention to the defense. Anybody's
standing out there.

Speaker 8 (21:09):
Yeah, his name is e Man. That's what m Rob
has been calling him. Gave him a nickname already, the
safety nick e Man.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
Worry.

Speaker 8 (21:16):
He was the second round pick for this team. He
was one of the biggest guys out there on the field,
definitely noticeable by his size, but also the plays that
he's making already as a young rookie. He had a
diving interception I'm told in practice yesterday and then today
another pick. The crowd was cheering for him He's definitely
an addition for this defensive back room. And with him

(21:39):
and Devin Witherspoon, who had a Pro Bowl season last
year and his rookie year, this defense continues to look
like that defense. We know the Seahawks are able to
be back. I don't know more than a decade ago.
I guess we're talking about, But Judy, a lot of
exciting things here in Seattle, Bridget.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 7 (21:58):
Enjoy that beautiful setting in Renton, Washington. And when we
come back, we're going to head back or I guess
you're going to head for the first time to East Rutherford.
It's where I spent the early part of the day
with the New York Giants. We'll talk about how Big
Blue is looking in training camp when we return.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
US Cowboys Parsons announcing it himself in a social media
post detailing a variety of frustrations with the organization and
his interactions with owner Jerry Jones, saying in part that
unfortunately he no longer wants to be a Cowboy. He
is still in Oxnark, California. He is still in training camp,

(22:43):
has not practiced to this point, and no signs that'll change.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Anytime soon.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
Several Cowboys teammates coming to Mike his aid in all this,
including Ceedee Lambot his own situation playout last year.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
CD posting never fails. Dog.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Just pay the man what you owe him, no need
for the extra curricular. Welcome back to the Insiders, Tom Pillisero,
now joined by our Bucky Brooks.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Monkey.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
You played in the league, you worked in front offices
in the league.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
Tell me what you make.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Of these developments on August first, between Michael Parsons and
the Cowboys.

Speaker 9 (23:17):
It's unbelievable, Tom, It's unbelievable that their best player on
the Dallas Cowboys is treated in the manner of which
the Cowboys have decided to treat him. Michael Parsons comes
into training camp operating under a negotiation of good faith.

Speaker 10 (23:30):
I'm coming here, We're gonna get this deal done.

Speaker 9 (23:32):
And yet we still are sitting here on August first,
and no deal has been consummated.

Speaker 10 (23:36):
They haven't figured out.

Speaker 11 (23:37):
What they're doing.

Speaker 9 (23:38):
And to me, this is a repeated theme with the
Dallas Cowboys. They never take care of their best players,
whether it's Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott, Cedee Lamb. The list
goes on and on and on. When it's time to
pay the bill, the Dallas Cowboys don't do it. And unfortunately,
it's a relationship business teams talk every day about Hey man,

(24:03):
it's about holding commitment, accountability, and trust. We've got to
be committed to one another. We've got to be accountable
one another, and we have to trust one another. It
is hard to foster that environment in the locker room
when the people in the locker room don't believe that
the people upstairs truly hold on to that ethos And
so Jerry Jones may eventually win the deal, but he's

(24:23):
hurting the team because no one really feels strongly about
wearing the star because they don't feel like ownership and
the front office will take care of them if they
do what they do for the franchise, they're not going
to get paid in return.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
The irony is the Cowboys end up doing even higher
level deals a lot of the time in the end,
but sometimes, in the case of for instance, Dac Prescott,
I can take multiple years beyond that point at a
time that the market is rising, which has also been
what's playing out here with the Edge Rushers. Bucky, thank
you very much for your perspective, Judy Well.

Speaker 7 (24:56):
I started the day out at Giants practice with Baldy
and Mike Garafalo. What stood out well? The offense had
a really good day. We'd said it before. There's an
awful lot of positivity around Russell Wilson that he has
brought to the team. But the one person who really
stood out today was Abdul Carter. That this is not
the first time we have said that about him. He

(25:16):
was wrecking everything today. His burst off the ball is startling.
He had a variety of moves on display today. One
a spin move that got him around the outside of
John Runyan. Another time he was rushing inside and just
burst right through the line. They are moving him all
around the formation. They had him today on the field
with cave On Thibodeau and Brian Burns all at the

(25:38):
same time. This is the kind of excitement that Abdul
Carter has brought to the Giants. When he does something
like maybe the spin move, his fellow defenders are whooping
it up. That's how excited they are to see what
he can do in a game situation. After practice, we
sat down with cave On Thibodeaux and Brian Burns.

Speaker 12 (25:57):
I'm kve on Thibodeau. We got Brian Burns, got Baldy
and we got Judy in here. I mean, today was
a great day.

Speaker 11 (26:04):
Right you tell us was what kind of day was?

Speaker 10 (26:06):
It came?

Speaker 13 (26:07):
It was definitely a defense to day. I think it
was fun.

Speaker 12 (26:10):
Burns got to the quarterback, I got to the quarterback.
We were stopping to run, We're getting interceptions. It was
a fun day on defense.

Speaker 10 (26:16):
It was. It was a great battle.

Speaker 14 (26:17):
You know, rest operates well, operates quickly, so he's kind
of speeding up our clock. We can't have any wasted
movements with our Russia, so we've been getting home.

Speaker 10 (26:23):
But he's also been making some places.

Speaker 15 (26:25):
I saw it two minutes drill like towards the end
of practice right there, kept out of the end.

Speaker 10 (26:28):
Zie. That's always a good feeling, right.

Speaker 13 (26:30):
There's definitely like to start a two minute off of
the sack.

Speaker 10 (26:33):
Yeah, yeah, you did right?

Speaker 13 (26:35):
You know, hey, you know what.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
Was the move?

Speaker 11 (26:37):
What'd you.

Speaker 12 (26:39):
I've been going to a lot of power this training camp,
just because of the sense we've been getting, so definitely
tailoring my moves to the setters and then you know,
keep kind of opening it up as we you know,
set up those initial moves.

Speaker 16 (26:48):
Brian, you mentioned that the way Russell runs practice, right,
it's forcing everything to speed up. It feels like the
past rush in particular has been really active, at least
in the days we've been able to see here in
the beginning.

Speaker 10 (26:59):
Really just a start. There's really just to start, honestly,
dex is and out there all the way.

Speaker 14 (27:03):
You know, he's still nursing somewhat of his nicks and bruises,
but so far we've been looking very sharp and you know,
getting abduall up to speed with us, you know, just
continuing to teach him and really mold him into a pro.

Speaker 10 (27:15):
You know, it's really been a great feeling.

Speaker 12 (27:18):
It's really dope for me to see, you know, russ
like playing with different quarterbacks and now having like a
true legend in there that's calling and checking and doing
everything that you know you would expect him to do
or you would see or you would hope you do,
but like he's doing it full flash. So it's been dope,
you know even for us, like playing off of him
and understanding.

Speaker 10 (27:34):
What he's doing.

Speaker 16 (27:35):
How much your energy and positivity is But that's been
mentioned to us a few days here, the positivity and
the energy Russ springs.

Speaker 6 (27:41):
How does that even affect you guys on defense?

Speaker 14 (27:44):
It affects me definitely, me because we were right next
to each other. So I asked Rus questions all day.
And it's whether it's football or just how he operates,
like taking care of his body, or just like his
mindset like he has. He's strong mentally, you know, So
I kind of want to take some of those things
and and apply it to my life and my game.

Speaker 12 (28:00):
I think it also creates belief, you know, when you
have guys that you can trust in one on the
field and what they do, but then to the character
and who they are and how they carry themselves. It
gives you know, each player confidence to go be themselves
and to find out where they fit, you know, amongst
the team. So for me personally, I'm right down the
way kind of on the same block as Burns and Russ.

Speaker 13 (28:19):
But you know, just hearing how he's bringing everybody along.

Speaker 12 (28:21):
He not only you know, brings up the offense but
also the defense, and he likes to call people up
not out.

Speaker 10 (28:27):
So I love that your leader.

Speaker 15 (28:28):
Yeah, so you mentioned Abdul, What has he been like
because I see in your past rush sets, like he's
moving around, he's in different places, he's over the guard,
over the center, and you guys are on the edge
most of the time. But like just his addition and
his energy, and you know, he looks like he's got
a lot of juice for the game.

Speaker 10 (28:45):
He does. But honestly, just using his versatility to our benefit.

Speaker 14 (28:49):
Like I said, it's imperative that we move him around
because you don't want him in one spot and he
can do so much yo, And we're all similar body types,
so we all can really be interchangeable. As long as
we know exactly the concepts of the games that we're
running and the concept of the play, we can all
be in different spots.

Speaker 16 (29:04):
We can feel the belief here, the high energy, the
anticipation tell Giants fans why they should believe in this
version of the Giants this year.

Speaker 14 (29:12):
I will honestly just say it's a new season, you know,
and the way I look at everything, we have to
prove it.

Speaker 10 (29:18):
And this is what we're doing in training camp right now.

Speaker 14 (29:20):
So with the energy they're bringing to our practices and
the belief that Russ has instilled into the team, I
just think like the sky's a limit for all.

Speaker 12 (29:28):
Of us, and I would say to giants fans, us
against the world. So as long as you guys are
riding with us, we're gonna take on whoever we need
to and whoever was.

Speaker 10 (29:35):
On the other side, stay over there.

Speaker 7 (29:41):
When we return, Adam Rank is going to join the
show to talk about surprise bum bears when we return.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
On The Insiders, our top story tonight, Michael Parsons has
requested a raid from the Dallas Cowboys. This following months
of on and mostly off contract talks about a blockbuster

(30:09):
extension that would make Parsons the highest paid non quarterback
in NFL history. A bunch of teammates also taking to
social media to have Parsons back, some of them changing
their profile photos on x to photos of Michael Parsons
Ceedee Lamb, who went through his own situation just a
year ago, weighing in and saying, never fails, dog. Just
pay the man what you owe him, no need for

(30:32):
the extra curricular.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Welcome back to the Insiders. WHOA, whoa?

Speaker 4 (30:40):
What is that new bio on Adam Rank's Twitter?

Speaker 3 (30:47):
He is a favorite of my mailman. That is true.

Speaker 4 (30:49):
I can confirm I actually went out to get the mail,
ran into my mailman and he was like, man, I
love your show The Insiders, but you know who I
really like Adam Rank, who, by the way, joins us
right now on this very show The Inside is Rank.
I want to say first, I know we're going to
get to some other stuff. Congratulations. That's as good as
it gets.

Speaker 17 (31:08):
There's nothing better than that. It's like everybody loving the
backup quarterback. They're like, yeah, the guy who's on your
show once a week, we love him. But I appreciate it.
Shout out to your mail man, thank you for everything
you do.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
Yeah, he does a great job of bringing the mail
to the mailbox. Also, very nice guy.

Speaker 10 (31:25):
Rank.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
A couple of days ago, I was at Chicago Bears
training camp.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
It's going to be a fascinating season for the Bears.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
A lot to like defensively, Offensively, there's a little bit
of a ways to go, and I think Caleb Williams
it's cleared with the right guy. What has been your
takeaways from the Chicago Bears first camp under coach Ben Johnson.

Speaker 17 (31:46):
Well, it's definitely been a work in progress. It's not
going to be something that's going to be immediate I
know a lot of Bears fans don't have a lot
of patience for this, which is understandable when you're give
in the struggles over the last number of years and
you have a name like Ben Johnson in and you
want to see it click immediately.

Speaker 11 (32:03):
But what they need right.

Speaker 17 (32:04):
Now is just getting Caleb Williams to master the mundane,
to go out there and make sure that he's not
always trying to play hero ball, that he's out there
taking a check down or something like that. And there
was a play in practice on Thursday. It was a
third and four and Olamande's a kias he was out
streaking three triple covered and last year that's the kind

(32:27):
of throw Kayleb Williams would have taken, but made the
right decision, checked it down to Cole Comet, picked up
the first down and we're able to move the change.
And I think that's the kind of thing that we
need to see out of Caleb Williams immediately.

Speaker 11 (32:39):
You don't want to make him play, you.

Speaker 17 (32:42):
Know, you don't want to take away his the special
qualities that he has, but you also wanted to make
smart decisions and keep that offense out there on the field.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
Right when I was there. It was the first practice
for their first.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
Round rookie Colston Lovelin, who I think a lot of
people is a big surprise in the draft as early
as he went going by before Tyler Warren talk to
people on the Bear staff though, and they think this
is a matchup nightmare. What do you make of Colston
Loveland as a rookie.

Speaker 17 (33:08):
Yeah, I really like the way that they approached the draft,
like not only going out there and getting Colston Lovelin,
but also bringing in Luther Burden the third in the
second round. Obviously, the goal is to go out there
and surround the Chicago with surround Caleb with as much
talent as possible. We're gonna see a lot of twelve
personnel from this team. There's going to be a lot
of different, lot of different guys that Caleb Williams can

(33:31):
throw to. Not only do you have DJ Moore Roma Dunz,
but now you have Colston Lovelin along with Cole Comett
and don't forget deanre Swift had seventy receptions the last
time he played with Ben Johnson when both of them
were in Detroit. There are going to be a lot
of options for Caleb Williams this season.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
Yeah, really going to be clear how much the Bears
have built around Caleb Williams when you see them take
the field this year. It's gonna be a really interesting
season in Chicago. Better days ahead for you, Rank, appreciate
you as always been. Don't go anywhere You're coming right
back by the way you know you should do.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
You should mail me a letter. Then all of our
world that would great will collide. All right.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
I love that big time events this weekend coming up
by Rank because it is the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Speaker 3 (34:17):
And awesome class.

Speaker 4 (34:18):
Just being totally honest, and my absolute favorites going up
Shirley Sharp, Antonio Gates, Jared Allen, and Eric Allen who
went one on one with our good friend Steve Wish.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
We are under the twenty four hour clock.

Speaker 18 (34:34):
Wow, for you're going to be on that stage Tom
Benson Stadium delivering your enshrine and speech.

Speaker 10 (34:39):
How are you feeling right now?

Speaker 19 (34:41):
I'm excited with the day's festivities going on. We at
the ray Nisky luncheon today where it's just the Hall
of Fame guys.

Speaker 10 (34:52):
New guys weren't.

Speaker 19 (34:52):
Able to speak, but you just kind of soak up
the energy and kind of get a really good idea
of what.

Speaker 10 (35:00):
You've been able to accomplish, and it was very special.
Is it also what you've accomplished, but also what is.

Speaker 18 (35:07):
Required because of the rare air you're about to really
start breathing.

Speaker 19 (35:12):
Yeah, that's great, that's great. That's a good question. And
you're right because as you walk through the hallways, you
kind of get an understanding of the guys that you followed,
the great players that you tried to emulate your game after,
and then there's those guys that you never thought you
would be in the same you know, room with those guys,

(35:34):
and it is an incredibly honor, you know that you
continue to kind of every time I wake up, it's
like I'm walking down the hall and Okay, there goes
you know, Charlie John, you know, there goes Dan Fouts,
you know, there goes Mike Haynes. So it's just over
and over again. Just kind of get the, uh, that
great feeling of being on a great team.

Speaker 10 (35:52):
Have you had a chance to think back for this
whole process.

Speaker 18 (35:56):
It's random McDaniel knocked on your door, Let you know,
to think back and say Wow, what a good career
I've had, What a great life I've lived.

Speaker 10 (36:06):
What a good player I want?

Speaker 19 (36:08):
Steve, you're forced to kind of when you're going through
the speech preparation, the images that they ask you to submit,
so you have to do a little digging, and you
know you're reaching out to friends and family, and it's
just natural to pause a little bit, you know, at
the end of every night for the last month or so,

(36:30):
every night and kind of like, wow, you know they
want a picture of me in a Pop Warner uniform
because that was a part of the journey, and you
start to kind of understand the biggest thing is there's
a sacrifice that I have to make that all these
players have to make to get here, and that sacrifices,
you know, lost time because instead of going out, you

(36:54):
worked out. Instead of you know, going to a party,
you know, you went to the playbook. But also there's
a sacrifice from your family. Once you get to this level,
if you want to maintain and stay here, there has
to be a sacrifice from everyone. So you can focus
and concentrate on what you're trying to do and at

(37:15):
the time, you're not thinking about this specific place, you're
thinking about just being bettered inan Dion, being bettered in
Darryl Green, you know, shutting down Chris Carter or mikee Irvin.
Those are things you're thinking about. But ultimately all those
things together lead you here.

Speaker 4 (37:34):
I had a nice little talk with myself to not
get emotional during these ceremonies. And you listen to Eric
Allen get emotional himself and you're like, oh boy, I'm
done for it.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
Anyway, that'll be fun over this weekend.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
Still a lot of fun here, including our good friend
my Meilmen's favorite Adam Rank coming back and down the
inside is just talk about that guy right there. Kyler
Murray leaves some information for me.

Speaker 10 (37:54):
Rank.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
I'm gonna go see them in a couple of days.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
Cardinals training camp rolling on in Glendale, Arizona. Kyler Murray
back for more in a big year for everybody in Arizona,
including his head coach Jonathan Again.

Speaker 20 (38:15):
It's competitive stamina. Do what your coach would do over
and over and over when when it's not sexy at times,
You know what I mean, And that's I think every quarterback.
I think they got to know that I you know,
and but you got to know when it's needed too,
you know, and there's different spots in a game that
it's it's there's a lot going on, you know what

(38:36):
I mean, And you got to make the correct decision
over and over and over. But I think he's done
a good job of that. You know, I'll never question
his decision making. I know what we coach, and I
know what he's allowed to do and what he sees.
But I trust him to make the right decision and
make plays for us. I really do.

Speaker 1 (38:54):
Welcome back to the Insiders, Tom Pilacero, joined once again
by Adam Rank. Adam, this is a really fascinating Cardinals team.
They've got some pieces in place. It's been a build
over the past few years. What stood out to you
from Arizona.

Speaker 17 (39:08):
Well, it's one of the things that's about Kyler Murray
and what they really need is hint to play a
lot better. When you look back at last year's statistics,
you know, the Cardinals were middle of the pack in
a lot of the passing categories, which you kind of
expected them to be better on, especially when you bring
in a player like Marvin Harrison Junior. And the one
thing that really stood out to me with the Cardinals.

(39:29):
Is that when you looked at the numbers or Kyler Murray,
he wasn't it wasn't too bad. But he really struggled
on passes to Marvin Harrison Junior, which seems counterintuitive. It
seems like that should not be the way. But when
he's throwing to Trey McBride or Greg Dort, his numbers
were through the roof. It's when he was going after

(39:50):
Marvin Harrison Junior is when he really took a step back.

Speaker 11 (39:52):
But I expect those to kind of.

Speaker 17 (39:54):
Progress this season, for them to get on the same
page a little bit more. And one of the things
that I really like this team and what they've done
a really nice job of over the last couple of
years is drafting offensive linemen really well. And last year's pick,
Isaiah Adams has been the talk of camp for Arizona.
Now you sit there and you look at this Cardinals

(40:14):
offensive line. Could it be one of the best offensive
lines in football. It's starting to trend that way, which
could really help the development of this offense.

Speaker 1 (40:22):
Rag I didn't hear a word you just said, because
let's keep the Kla Murray video up here for a second.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
Is he wearing a kilt.

Speaker 1 (40:29):
I am seeing a very large amount of side leg
all the way up the top here.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
Rank. It is.

Speaker 17 (40:37):
Those are like the track shorts from back in the day.
For the guys who are running the hurdles. You're like, yeah,
I don't want to be constricted as much what I'm
out here running like Edwin Moses.

Speaker 11 (40:46):
I need a little bit more flexibility.

Speaker 10 (40:48):
It is.

Speaker 11 (40:49):
It's a look. It is some of these guys.

Speaker 17 (40:51):
I also don't understand the thing with like the crop
top jersey, but then the undershirt is super long, like
I know, like they call it aura and all that stuff.
I do not have that right now. I wear polo shirts.
I understand I should not be talking about fashion. However,
this is definitely a look, not one that you and

(41:13):
I might be able to pull off.

Speaker 2 (41:16):
Rank.

Speaker 1 (41:17):
Thank you very much. Look forward to chatting with you
again soon. Our coverage of training camps for all thirty
two teams is really just getting started. We're back tomorrow
from nine am to newon Eastern with Inside Training Camp Live.
We'll have full coverage from every camp across the league,
bring you exclusive interviews, expert analysis, breaking storylines, and more

(41:37):
on Inside Training Camp Live.

Speaker 2 (41:40):
But first we have more insiders coming up next.

Speaker 21 (41:48):
I played with Mason Taylor's dad and uncle, so I
mean kind of fun. What's that like seeing him running
around making I mean, I remember him running around in
Courtland when he was little. Just today, if you remembers
living in New York And he said a little bit,
So it's a crazy world now we kind of we're
in right now. But fun to be around. I mean,

(42:10):
obviously he's a great player, and his family great lineage
of players, so you know, it's it's been fun.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
New Jets kicker Nick Full forty years old with a
six round pick by the Cowboys back in two thousand
and seven. Judy, that's one of those boy he must
feel old moments until you remember we're all older than him.

Speaker 7 (42:29):
Yeah, because they haven't trained in Courtland in years. So
when he mentioned he remembers Courtland, I was like.

Speaker 14 (42:35):
Ooh.

Speaker 20 (42:38):
Jeez.

Speaker 4 (42:39):
I mean, I don't know why anybody enjoys these moments.
These moments are awful, like it's not fun to be like, oh, man,
I remember this guy who used to be a kid
is now a player, Like that's terrible.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
I don't want to think of that. I'm young at
least that was.

Speaker 1 (42:51):
That's why Antoine Winfield junior today and he's now a
established veteran in the league.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
I covered his dad for most of.

Speaker 1 (42:58):
His career up there in Minnesota's got chance to catch
him with Todd Bowles, who told us.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
This, You're such a mild mannered guy.

Speaker 11 (43:07):
Every time we see you walt here.

Speaker 1 (43:08):
Do you still have you still have those moments left?

Speaker 2 (43:10):
Fire come up beyond the seat.

Speaker 19 (43:13):
Bruce Banner is a moud man guy.

Speaker 3 (43:19):
You holk ut, you holk out occasionally, don't you say?

Speaker 13 (43:22):
I think I've gotten older?

Speaker 11 (43:24):
You know about powers have left me.

Speaker 1 (43:30):
Todd Bowles also when talking about Baker Mayfield, said, and
I quote, we can't put on puppeteer gloves and just
mush him along for the season.

Speaker 2 (43:38):
He's in words of things I've never heard of. Ian Uh.
That's why we love Todd. It's always fun talking to him.

Speaker 3 (43:45):
I mean, Todd Bowles is one of the best.

Speaker 4 (43:48):
And this is why he is a rock star in
this box locker room because of lines like that. Meanwhile,
the Dallas Cowboys brought back an old friend, that is
Layout Collins.

Speaker 3 (43:57):
Remember Lyle Collins used to be a starter for the Cowboys.
Then wasn't then was anyway?

Speaker 1 (44:02):
Then weekend everybody say Monday

Speaker 6 (44:10):
