Speaker 1 (00:08):
Big day for Shador Sanders. First a visit to the
Steelers and then a visit to the Insiders. That's right,
one of the biggest names in the twenty twenty five
NFL Draft will be here to break down his visit
with Mike Tomlin and much more. Abduel Carter also is
on the road visiting the Giants and getting an important
(00:29):
checkup on his foot. We will tell you the latest
on the health and the potential destinations for one of
this draft's top prospects. NC North was one of the
most competitive divisions in football last season. Now there's a
little bit of Lions flavor in Chicago. Stacy Dale's will
be here to take you inside both of those teams
(00:49):
off seasons. Welcome inside with the Insiders alongside Judy Batista
and Ian Rappaport. I am Tom Pelisero here in the
NFL Network News room in Los Angeles, where the temperature
is just slightly higher than it is projected to be
fourteen days from right now in Green Bay, Wisconsin for
(01:09):
round one of the drought. It's going to be a fantastic,
fantastic week. Don't worry about it. Just bring a couple
of extra cod see in that's right two weeks away
and you will see some of those top prospects coming
off the board, the likes of Ashton Genty, Travis Hunter.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
And many many more. For now, we.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Continue to speculate about the potential destinations for schdor Sanders,
who today took a really intriguing visit to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Again,
he's going to join us from Pittsburgh on this show
to dive deep into the situation. But Judy, this brings
us to the broader questions facing the Steelers that we've
been talking about for really months now. They continue to
(01:48):
wait on Aaron Rodgers. They continue to have all the
top quarterback prospects except cam Ward into the facility, spend
extra time with them for the possibility they take one
at T T one D one. When you see that
Schduor Sanders is visiting Pittsburgh, what are your thoughts?
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Well, my first thought is that they are still in
a holding pattern with Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
But when we were at the annual meeting with all
of the.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Steelers people last week, I thought that they were fairly
confident that that deal was going to come together and
that Aaron Rodgers would be their quarterback this season.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
Of course, it still hasn't happened.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
I think there are certainly people in the organization who
would like to get an answer.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Kind of soon, but it hasn't happened yet. But even if.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season,
they still haven't solved their long term question of who
is the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers going forward. And
that's a question they have faced really since the final
years of the Ben Roethlisberger era. They've cycled through quarterbacks.
They haven't been able to figure it out. They drafted
Kenny Pickett, obviously that didn't work out. So why wouldn't
(02:57):
you be looking at the top quarterbacks in this Why
wouldn't you have a visit with Shador Sanders. First of all,
it's kind of murky now where Shadoor is going to
be drafted. Maybe it gets more clarified as we get
closer to the start of the draft, but for now,
we don't really know where he's going to go. Could
he be in range for the Pittsburgh Steels. The Steelers
(03:18):
have to know what their options are, whether they get
Aaron Rodgers or not. They have to know that if
the quarterbacks get into their range, who do they like,
who do they think fits would they take one in
the first round or in the second round. Why wouldn't
they investigate Shador Sanders, especially again because it's unclear where
(03:38):
Shador is going to be in this draft.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
And I would put this in the category of these
Steelers doing their due diligence, we think, because there is
a chance that something happens and Shador Sanders doesn't go
two or three falls out of the top ten and
is waiting there for the Pittsburgh Steelers, either right around
where they picked, just outside the top twenty, or maybe
they make a small leap up to get him. Either way,
if you're the Pittsburgh Steelers, you know, if Aaron Rodgers
(04:03):
signs with you or not, you still need a quarterback
of the future. And for organizations who have to do
this year after year after year, and this has been
the Steelers situation ever since Ben Roethlisberger really retired, ever
since it became clear that Kenny Pickt was not going
to be the short term or the long term ansia there.
Speaker 6 (04:20):
The Steelers would like to not do this.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
They'd like to be one of those teams, like so
many others of the really really good franchisees who just
have a guy and don't have to search for it.
So they need to take stock of the quarterback position
in general, and whether it's just getting Shador in to
compare him to some of the other quarterbacks they might
take in the second or third round, or whether it's
making sure that if he's there, you have a full
evaluation all of those things. It was sort of a
(04:45):
necessary evil, I guess would be a weird way of
saying it, but necessarily evil today. And then for Shador Sanders,
you know, sometimes you see top prospects turned down visits
out there's no chance they'll get to him. Good job
by him and we'll ask about it. But taking the visit,
taking the most out of it, meeting coach Mike Tomlin
and kind of moving forward with it.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
And for all the Steelers fans continuing to panic about
who exacutly their quarterback is going to be, they got
a reprieve last night in order to panic about their
star pass rusher with a cryptic post on Instagram, TJ
watt Ian take me inside.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
This potentially symbolic peace set.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Well, there are a couple options here, and I broke
them down in fantastic fashion on Good Morning Football this morning.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
Either TJ.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
Watt saw this picture and it's like, I look so cool,
I'm just going to post.
Speaker 6 (05:34):
It for my fans. I guess that's possible. Probably not thought,
probably more.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Likely is one of those cryptic social media to each
where he's having negotiations with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a
long term contract extension.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
Talks have not you have resulted in a deal.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
There are several benchmarks for the really top pass rushers,
and the fact that Miles Garrett got forty million dollars
per year. You know that if you're TJ. Watt, you
have the credentials of Miles Garrett. That's where you're aiming at, right,
That's sort of the goal I would imagine. And if
you're not there, if things haven't progression, if you wanted,
this is a good way of sort of keeping the peace,
(06:08):
not doing anything out of order, but just calling attention
to things are not exactly as I would like.
Speaker 6 (06:15):
No one COEs to TJ. Watt has really said anything.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
Watt himself has not said something, but maybe just a
small nudge to the public. Hey, this guy's really good
and he would like his due salary as well.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
The third potential option there would be that's the sign
that TJ. Watt would love the Steelers to give Aaron Rodgers,
because there does seem to be a feeling among certain
corners of that locker room that it would be nice
to have answers about exactly who was deciding to play
for one of the most iconic franchises in the NFL.
Avnuel Carter, the Penn State edge rusher, one of the
elite prospects in this draft class, continuing his tours earlier today,
(06:50):
spending time with the Giants and also getting a pretty
important update on his foot.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
Ian that's right today was the combine rechecks, which basically
means any player who had a medical issue with the combine.
Remember abdual Carter had a stress stress reaction, I guess
would probably be stress spot. The best way to call
it a lower leg situation that combine doctors caught and
(07:16):
there was a time when they were considering surgery and
ultimately decided, along consultations with several medical experts, surgery was
not necessary. The spot was explained to me, is very
small and abdual Carter was not in.
Speaker 6 (07:29):
Pain, but you don't really know until you get it
checked out. So today that's what it was.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
He got a good medical report from the Combine doctors.
No surgery is necessary, they're not going to move forward
with that. Sounds like a shoulder was fine as well.
So for a really really good prospect who has not
worked out at all because of a couple of different
medical situations, at least he got a big thumbs up
from doctors.
Speaker 6 (07:51):
And then we'll can continue on his visit.
Speaker 5 (07:54):
To the New York Giants, which is actually ongoing right now,
and we'll continue into tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
So this is at least a second time he has
spent time with Giants. Brass dual Carter. To me, the
really interesting thing is an upcoming visit with the New
England Patriots. I have to believe if abdul Carter is
still on the board when the New England Patriots pick
fourth overall, they will race to turn in that card
because this is a team that really could use an
(08:22):
edge rusher.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
Like abdul Carter.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
We've talked about the Giants that this would be a
best player available kind of pick because they actually have
some pretty good pass rushers right now. It would be
not a luxury pick, but it would just be adding
to an area of strength for the Patriots.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
It would be filling a significant need.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
They only had twenty eight sacks last year, that was
fewest in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
They were near the bottom of the.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
League in pressure rate, So this is a priority for
the New England Patriots.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
The problem for the Patriots that.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Would mean that the Titans, Browns, Giants would all pass
on Abdul Carter, and coming into the draft season, it
was acknowledged that at abdol Carter could be the top
player overall in this class. It's hard to imagine he
gets to number four. We'll see with the Patriots make
a move for him. Very interesting visit.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
I think if.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
There's the biggest need for the Cowboys, you could certainly
argue that it's at the wide receiver position. So notable
that Matthew Golden, who has helped himself through the pre
draft process, blaze the forty at the combine. It's posed
with Jerry on a visit to the Star with the Cowboys.
If you take a look at some of the mock
drafts that our experts have been making at NFL dot Com.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
This is a popular pick Daniel.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Jeremiah as well as Lance Zerlin, who will be joining
us a little bit later on in the show, both
sending Matthew Golden to Dallas, while Charles Davis had ted
McMillan going to the Cowboys instead. But Judy for a
Cowboys team that once again was relatively inactive in free agency,
they've got a tough hill to climb, even within their
own division, to, among other things, to surpass the team
(09:58):
that won the Super Bowl this year. There's a lot
of different needs right now.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
As the Cowboys move forward.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
They're really opert.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
First, I just want to say I love that the Cowboys,
I think are the only team that when players visit
they actually take a picture with the general manager and
in this case, the owner of the team. You haven't
seen that anywhere else, Dat man exactly. Look, wide receiver
is in need, and it has been in need for
a little while.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
To pair with C. D. Lamb. They've got a.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Decent wide receiver room right now, but certainly adding somebody
like Matthew Golden would turbo charge that room. They could
use a spark in that offense. The problem for them
is they also really really need a running back. They're
going to be in a position where they could take
one or the other with the first round draft pick.
I think the question is do they take a wide
(10:49):
receiver here? There's almost no question they're going to take
a wide receiver somewhere.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
In this draft. But we will see. This is a This.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Would certainly be a really popular pick in Dallas, because
of course you can from the University of Texas.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
We'll see.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
But this was a very interesting visit and certainly would
fill a need and has been an ongoing need for
the Cowboys.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
Yeah, receivers in need of running back would make a
lot of sense. The one bit of caution I would
say for the Dallas Cowboys, it is very fun and
we do this every year to put big name skill
guys with the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Look, if it was a really.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
Really good receiver out of Texas who actually might be
the top receiver off the board in Matthew Golden, that
would be a pretty sexy pick. It would be something
to be celebrated locally, it be something that nationally we
would discuss. He would immediately be in the conversation for
Offensive Rookie the Year, and it would be very fun
for all of us. History shows us, though, that the
Cowboys are far more boring, like way too boring. Generally,
(11:45):
what they addressed with their premium premium picks first round,
maybe second round is up front. It's offensive line, like
Tyler Guidon and Tyler Smith, and when they were really rolling,
it was Zach.
Speaker 6 (11:55):
Martin and Travis Frederick.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
I mean it was all of these offensive line and
Mazzie's and on the other side defensive line. So while
we talk about these skill guys, the Cowboys personnel people
build the old fashioned way through the trenches. I'm not
saying they're not gonna take a running back like if
a Marion Hampton is here, or not gonna take a
receiver if Golden is here, but just looking at the
way the Cowboys do things, they are far more boring
(12:20):
than this.
Speaker 6 (12:21):
I have no expectations.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
They'll probably pick some offensive linemen who most people don't
care about and haven't heard of. It will probably be
like you know, Membo from Missouri or something that I'm
gonna go, okay, cool, whatever, and then they'll end up
being an all pro Like you know, like say Tyler Smith.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Is boring or not. We will have answers.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Fourteen days from tonight, Round one of this NFL Draft.
Speaker 6 (12:45):
Sanders ends up caught touchdown.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
It is Sanders, and anyone wants in touchdown.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
Don't box leap for the first time.
Speaker 7 (12:55):
That's on for Shepherd. That's a big hog and he's
still tamp down with it.
Speaker 8 (12:59):
Sam.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
It's down the field.
Speaker 7 (13:01):
At a good open under.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Un believable.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Buyers got that Sanders to run.
Speaker 6 (13:10):
He's got the inside.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
And we are joined right now by Sador Sanders, who
you might know is a pretty busy man. Right now
we're catching him literally at the Pittsburgh Airport. How was
it with the Steelers today? How's how's life right now?
Two weeks out from the draft?
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Man?
Speaker 8 (13:29):
It was excuse is great? Is great? I understand them.
I understand why they'gans somewhat. What coach is the way
how he is? He remembered that a little bit. They
have the same principles.
Speaker 6 (13:52):
You know that.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
That's interesting because obviously the teams want to know about you,
right they want to learn about you. They want to
get on the board and all the things. You want
to learn about them too, because you know you're looking
at a potential employer as well. How much learning have
you done and how much like giving have you done
to kind of show them the kind of prospect in
(14:13):
person you are.
Speaker 8 (14:16):
While iron just our conversation we see it on here
for an hour, I'm able to learn a lot about y'all. Also,
But them understanding me is not that hard. I'm open
book with all the type of questions they want to
know in any situation, and so everything is everything means
(14:37):
the character is very clear to them.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
So in the end, you know, the teams are going
to make the call, right, They're going to turn in
the car. Somebody's going to have your name on it.
But I imagine when you're in these buildings and you're sitting
there across from Mike Tomin, like you've got to be
playing up with scenarios in your head, right, like, oh man,
this I could see myself.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
I could see myself as a stealer.
Speaker 8 (15:00):
Yeah. When I'm talking to anything, Uh, I understand the
work is going to take and I see the dynamic
of everybody that's that's around, So I know how my
approach different situations than what I'm gonna have to do.
Uh should be successful and get some franchises. So I'm
just setting back, observing, just watching everything and knowing what's
(15:22):
gonna take when they change the franchise for the better.
Speaker 6 (15:30):
Have you enjoyed this? I mean it's it's hard.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
You got to and you haven't done a ton of
travel but some obviously, and you're literally in the airport
right now, so clearly traveling some. But has the process
been fun or is it just a grind and you're like,
get me to draft night.
Speaker 8 (15:50):
It's extremely fun. I feel like we're gonna just start. Uh,
it's just funny to see what they come up with next.
You know, at first it was the arm with this
strong I had a lot of touchdown's career. Then it
was I pat the ball. That wasn't the thing before
(16:11):
Brode wasn't. So I don't get in trouble off the field,
though it's kind of hard from the creation storyline for
the media. Uh, keep the agorithm going. So it's gonna
be fun with the next door.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
I talked to your quarterback coach, Daryl Colbert Junior earlier
today and that's what he was saying. He's like, I
don't really understand how the dude was the top pick
in the draft in four months without playing any football games,
and now we're talking about is he gonna still gonna
be up at the top. It's like nothing's changed since then.
The pat and the ball thing though, that one got me,
like you see that on social media, right or people
(16:49):
tell you about it. Whatever, what goes through your head.
Speaker 8 (16:56):
The same stuff, the same stuff have been going on
through my has a first step to is this normal?
I don't do anything negative, so they gotta find some
negative to talk about. So you gotta find a way
to tear me down. But you know, when you know
that type of stuff is coming and you don't really care.
(17:19):
You know.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
The last time you and I spoke, we were facetiming
while I was I think pulled over on a highway. Uh,
your dad had had FaceTime. We were talking about the combine.
My kids were in the back of the car. It
was a whole thing. He put you on the phone
and you and I talked, and you basically explained your
entire combine strategy and plans to me. And I was
so interesting because basically it was instead of going through
(17:43):
an agent, a coach, your dad, it was here talk
to Shador himself.
Speaker 6 (17:49):
I felt at the time, like that's.
Speaker 5 (17:51):
The kind of thing that would prepare you to deal
with all of the things that you'll see in the NFL,
because you're the one who has to answer.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
For these things. Is that in your mind?
Speaker 5 (18:00):
Is that sort of an example, I guess of how
you've been prepared for this spotlight.
Speaker 8 (18:07):
I think it's just a man thing to do. I
think it's just something that us is get to the
source and get to the point when I go visit
these toads, and when I go to all these different franchises,
I ask them truly what I think and how I doe.
And some get offended, some like it, some don't, you know,
make some people comfortable. Some people, you know, invite that.
(18:27):
So uh, they know what type of person, what type
of player they're going to get out of me. So
I just have to make sure you know what type
of tolsion, what type of dynamic I'm gonna have with
them often.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
So last thing for you here s Jordan.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
I've been thinking about this a lot because maybe my
favorite clip from TV and NFL Draft history is your
dad on the couch. And given the quote about man,
I was scared Detroy was gonna take me, they would
have to put me. I would ask for so much money,
they would have put me on layaway. Have you thought
about based on that, I hanick moment. Is there anything
(19:02):
you can do say where that can actually top it
and be the Sanders that we think about for great
NFL draft moments.
Speaker 8 (19:11):
No, I think I think he's still the standing. I
think he said the standing for sure. Whatever happened naturally
would just happen.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
I mean, look at this we got.
Speaker 6 (19:22):
This is when he arrived, Like that is so good.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
There it is, there's talking to our friend Andrea Kramer
right there giving that quote.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
That's somewhere.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Make sure you at least ask are those sunglasses in
the jackets somewhere? Maybe you know that could be the
homage on drafting man. Thanks to Ton for being you
should do. I really appreciate man. Good luck, thank you,
thank you. Caleb Williams did not have to wait long
to hear his name called in last year's NFL draft.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Now he's starting over with a new head coach in
year two.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
We'll have Judy Batista with Stacey Dale's in Chicago talking
about that relationship between Caleb Ben Johnson and what means
for the Bears going forward.
Speaker 9 (19:58):
Next, on the inside, The Chicago Bears began their off
season program under new head coach Ben Johnson this week.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
Obviously, lots of expectations for what Ben Johnson is going
to be able to do for Caleb Williams, who said
he is super excited to.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
Get to work under his new boss.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Nobody knows the Chicago Bears better than our very own
Stacy Dales. Stacy joins us now to discuss the Bears
as they turn the page on last season and start
the Ben Johnson. Stacy, We've actually spent most of this
offseason talking about Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson and what
Ben is going to do for Caleb. We haven't really
(20:45):
talked much about Dennis Allen and what he is going
to do for that defense. What is he going to
do for the Bears defense.
Speaker 10 (20:53):
Thank you for teaming up on something other than the offense,
because I just love this fit.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
I know you do too.
Speaker 10 (20:58):
With Dennis Allen rejuvenated, it's really you know, it's going
to be interesting because this is a group that finished
Matt Aberflus was a heck of a defensive minded guy
and had this group playing, you know, relatively well for
a couple of years and you know, obviously things didn't
work out last year, but you know, Dennis Allen steps
into a group that has so much potential. As we've seen, right,
(21:21):
they were pretty good in the takeaway department. Unfortunately, they
finished twenty seventh in terms of total defense last year.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
They struggled to stop the run.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
They gave up big plays.
Speaker 10 (21:30):
But Jalen Johnson in company, as you just saw him there,
are also excited about Dennis Allen and they're going to
play a lot more man to man and what does
that mean. As we heard from Jalen Johnson this week,
he wants to be the lock up, the number one
guy type guy.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
And one of the.
Speaker 10 (21:46):
Areas that Dennis Johnson is excited Dennis Allen, excuse me,
is excited about this group is the secondary. He loves
the talent, therey, he loves the length, the size of
the cornerbacks. He thinks there's versatility with the safety position,
and I think he sees a lot of potential with
those linebackers. I'm just really curious to see what they
do up front defensively. Obviously, adding Grady Jarrett and o'dangbo
(22:09):
from the Colts So Atlanta in Indianapolis sending over some
players for Dennis Allen's group, But ultimately I'm just anxious
to see Judy what they do with their seven picks.
Currently they obviously pick at number ten. I believe I'll
be there covering them for this draft because it's another
important one for general manager Ryan Poles and company, and
certainly know you one would think like they could go trenches,
(22:33):
go defensive line, go offensive line here, or let's get
a showstopper, right, and so the buzz name around here
is these Bears fans would love to see Ashton Genty
the running back, become the showstopper for the Chicago Bears,
as we saw mister Gibbs and Jamior Gibbs in Detroit
with Ben Johnson last season. But I'm really anxious to
see this defensive evolution under coach Allen.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Well, you mentioned Ben Johnson leaving the Detroit Lions also
left Jared Goff. What's Jared Goff going to be able
to do without Ben Johnson.
Speaker 10 (23:07):
I just think this is his biggest year yet because
he gets to show everybody the type of leader that
he is. What's really interesting is this Detroit Lions team
last year. Obviously the evolution from twenty twenty two when
Ben became the offensive coordinator, they'd just gotten better and
better better, right to the tune of the fourth most
points in NFL history last regular season, they had like
(23:30):
five hundred and sixty four points this offense. They were
so explosive, the number one scoring offense, number two total,
They were the number two passing off events when it
was all said and done. But what Dan Campbell has
created right now, entering his fiftieson the head coach, this
is going to be a completely player led locker room.
So we're going to talk about can they replicate the
(23:53):
success now with John Morton the new offensive coordinator as
we've seen with Ben Johnson, but Jared Goff's voice Judy
has gotten bigger and stronger and louder every single year,
and there's so much leadership that has contained. So this
will be a player led locker room as it has
evolved under head coach Dan Campbell in with Brad Holmes.
(24:13):
I mean, Jared Goff had career highs in wins, completion percentage,
passer rating, passing, touchdowns, passyards per attempt, like he.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
Had his best season last year.
Speaker 10 (24:24):
It's got to get even better this year, and I
think it can because of the type of leader he is.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
But they've got.
Speaker 10 (24:29):
Seven picks in the draft, Brad Holmes. As you know,
Judy does a masterful job. They start at twenty eight,
and with the loss of Kevin Zeitler to the Tennessee Titans,
one of their starting guards, I'm just really anxious to
see possibly adding an offensive lineman there. Maybe it's a
Gray Zabel, a Tyler Booker, a Donovan Jackson, a guard
that could really fit in there. Maybe they go defensive
(24:51):
line though, and how Baden Hutchinson come back from that injury.
Speaker 6 (24:54):
We'll see.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
NFC North is never boring. Stacy Dale's thank you very much. Well,
when those guys get to the draft, they're going to
see plenty of familiar faces. Look at all of these
Georgia defensive players drafted in the first round since twenty
twenty two, not that long ago. Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith,
Trevon Walker. Of course three of these guys with the Eagles.
(25:18):
Howie Roseman definitely loves him some Georgia Bulldogs.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
So does Brian Baldinger.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
We think we're about to find out if Brian Baldinger
really loves the Georgia Bulldogs. Baldy, thanks for joining us, Baldy.
Let's go through some of the top Bulldog the prospects
we've got right now. Let's start with the edge. Jalen Walker.
Speaker 11 (25:39):
Yeah, well, I mean it's going to be a dog
and Kirby smart knows how to recruit five star athletes
and the coach him up. So Jalen Walker is and
he's an off the ball insidelinebacker that can come screaming
off the edge in pass for a situation. So he
really has versatility to his game. And now you just
watched right here here he comes right up the middle
(25:59):
right here, I mean just from the inside linebacker spot.
But here he is fighting off an offensive tackle. He's
got the strength on the edge to set the edge,
you know, and then take down the ball carrier. Here
he is coming off the edge, just a little ghost move,
a little dip and rip, you know. So he's got
real versatility to his game. And you know, once he
gets you in the open field, he starts chasing you.
(26:20):
You're like, this is Archie Manning right here. Archie got
taken down pretty good. And Archie can run that man,
he knows how to run, but Jaylen Walker caught him
up pretty good. Like he's like, you know, he's a
top ten pick here in this draft. You could debate
Abdul Carter Jalen Carter off the edge, who has more versatility,
but they're both extremely talented athletes.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
All right, Let's talk about another edge. Mikel Williams.
Speaker 7 (26:48):
Yeah, Mikel.
Speaker 11 (26:49):
Look, look, I mean he was part of the last
national championship team and a big part of that team
that beat TCU. He was he got banged up in
the first game last year, Judy and played through a
high ankle spring, but still played well. He's a big,
strong body that can play up and down the defensive
line and a three technique.
Speaker 7 (27:09):
He can come off the edge like he does.
Speaker 11 (27:11):
Against Calvin Banks in Texas right here, and he can
get to Quinn yours and get the ball out.
Speaker 7 (27:16):
You know, he can stack and shed right here.
Speaker 11 (27:18):
He's got tremendous core strength and he's six foot five,
he's two hundred and seventy pounds.
Speaker 7 (27:24):
He can drop an anchor body.
Speaker 11 (27:25):
He can really turn the corner as well as he
does against Ohio State in this particular play.
Speaker 7 (27:30):
And so you can play him inside. You can play
him outside.
Speaker 11 (27:34):
They'd run stunts a lot with him and Jail Walker
at Georgia together, so you can see some of the
ways that you might be able to use them at
the NFL level by how they used them at Georgia.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
All right, they had talent in the secondary as well.
Tell me about defensive back.
Speaker 11 (27:51):
Malachi starts, Well, you put up two hundred tackles in
three years, like he's yeah, he makes an impression and
he shows up and really it's all phased. He could
be your cover safety, he can be your box safety.
He can play in the deep half of your defense.
He really plays a variety of spots on your defense.
(28:11):
Here he is right now. I mean he has an
excellent job of finding the ball the deep path of
the field. Here against Oregon, he gets his head back
on the ball like he does here against Clemson.
Speaker 7 (28:21):
This is spray fade route.
Speaker 11 (28:23):
Right here, he gets his head around and then he
high points the ball. You know, he's got plenty of
size here. He is right here, just leverage on Jalen Milroe.
Not an easy guy to take down in the middle
of the field. He does that, but he can blitz,
he can tackle for losses there's a variety of ways.
Reminds me a lot of what Brian Branch brought when
(28:43):
he came out of Alabama.
Speaker 7 (28:45):
For Detroit a couple of years ago.
Speaker 11 (28:47):
But he has a talented safety, and like all safeties
in his business, you can't just specialize, you know, in
the deep path, You've got to be able to cover.
You got to cover tight ends, running backs at times.
Malachi has proved that he can do that. Ride your
ways just by how they utilized them at Georgia.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
I have a feeling we're going to be hearing those
names early often, all three on Draft night, Baldy, thank
you very much for NFL prospects. The draft journey is
the most demanding and inspiring job interview process in the
world of sports. In an exclusive new series, NFL Media
takes you along for the ride with two exceptional prospects,
(29:28):
Dylan Gabriel, quarterback from Oregon, and Luther Burden, the receiver
from Missouri. Here's a sneak peek as they embark on
their draft journey in Destination Green Bay, presented by Toyota.
Speaker 12 (29:50):
What's a head to Andy, Who's come.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
On tome another guy? I will be.
Speaker 7 (29:55):
One of the top guys, I'm everything.
Speaker 12 (29:57):
I'm prepared, you know, all the all work I'm putting in,
vot you don't know, don't have this opportunity to, you know,
be able to showcase my skills in front of the
whole World's very opportunity.
Speaker 8 (30:09):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Go see how Indy Man.
Speaker 7 (30:11):
Peace out and we are here.
Speaker 6 (30:16):
The twenty twenty five NFL scouting combine.
Speaker 7 (30:19):
Is the peak.
Speaker 12 (30:19):
Everything's working too, because every kid's dream to make it
to an NFL combine and go crazy, and.
Speaker 8 (30:26):
You got to go make it happen. So I'm gonna
let it fly, take a deep breath and game onne.
Speaker 12 (30:36):
So I'm gonna feel confident myself, you know, confident the
work I put in and watch stop.
Speaker 13 (30:40):
Now the most tynamic player in college football.
Speaker 7 (30:52):
Touchdown Ash the gent D.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
What a run for Ash the gent D? Touch down?
Speaker 12 (30:58):
What a throw?
Speaker 11 (31:00):
There more that other big moments, big corner Rangus goes
a little more right into the endside.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Touchdown touchdown Colorado too, lighting in the.
Speaker 13 (31:09):
Game, shour touchdown, touchdown Colorado.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
You've heard a lot of those names in the past
several weeks leaping up to the NFL draftings.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Now just two weeks away.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
So who are some of the names you haven't heard
enough for answers on that we bring in Lance Zerline,
bring back our Brian Baldinger with me, Tom Pilaicero and
Ian rapport Lance. All right, in terms of some of
those less heralded guys we should be talking out about more.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Give me a safety that you'd put on that list.
Speaker 8 (31:37):
Yeah, Jonah Sanker from Virginia. And it's funny talking to
different teams. I think they all love him and they
all are hoping.
Speaker 14 (31:43):
That he makes it to them. But I don't think
he gets out of the third round. And the reason simple.
He's big, he is physical. He will run the alleys
and smack you in the run game. He's got the
ability to cover over the slot. It's you know, in
today's NFL, you want safeties who are two way safeties,
Guys who can run. You want guys who can run
a little bit. He ran a sub five four five forty,
(32:04):
so he's in a four to four, so he can run.
He's got size, he can cover, and he can you know,
and he can get downhill and be physical against the run.
Speaker 6 (32:11):
Now, there's some things that clean up.
Speaker 14 (32:13):
There's some things that clean up in terms of pursuit
angles and some of the open field tackling. But this
is a really good safety prospect that I think you're
gonna be able to find late in day two.
Speaker 7 (32:23):
Lance, I already have a nickname for him.
Speaker 11 (32:25):
I'm calling him Urgent Care because of his instant diagnosis
of plays.
Speaker 7 (32:29):
No bad angles, knows where the ball is going.
Speaker 11 (32:31):
That's how you get two hundred and seventy tackles at
Virginia over the last three years. I mean major production
wherever you line them up. And so I thought his
open field tackling was Chris and the angles he takes
are are excellent. That helps him get to make those
type of plays in the open field.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
Yeah, Urgent Care diagnosed it quickly.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
After you wait, like a half hour after they take
injuries that are much more severe than yours and you're
just sitting there bleeding, and it's like, yeah, we'll get
to you.
Speaker 6 (32:59):
Urgent Cares are great. All right, Lance, I'll give.
Speaker 5 (33:01):
You another position, give me a sleeper corner to diagnose.
Speaker 8 (33:06):
First of all, I love the honesty of this show,
you guys. When the ties are off. I love the.
Speaker 14 (33:11):
Energy of the show now so much, And I love
the energy of Jacob Parrish, the cornerback from Kansas State.
Speaker 8 (33:16):
That's how we segue on the show.
Speaker 14 (33:18):
If you look behind me, there is every position and
does what I look for from every position when I
evaluate tape, and the one thing I really want is speed,
and I want fluidity and coverage. Jacob Parrish check and
check the other thing about him. Not only did he
run in the four threes at the combine, so he
can really roll. He also has the ability to play
not just outside, but he can play inside on the slot.
(33:38):
So now you got an inside outside cornerback with massive speed.
He killed it with these jumps. Watch is vertically zoom
ten foot nine inches and a good vertical as well.
So he's explosive, he's fluid, he can run. There's everything
you love about it. So you know, I'm thinking second
round is where Jacob Parrish is going to go. Deserves
a lot more conversation than he's getting right now.
Speaker 8 (34:00):
Draft process.
Speaker 7 (34:02):
He's a pitbull, Lance is what he is. He's sticky
in coverage.
Speaker 11 (34:06):
He poor guy his size, he has no fear of tackling,
uh and he gets his hands on a lot of footballs.
He's got five interceptions, and so the only thing that
people are gonna fight is his size. Is he is
he a slot defender or can he play outside like
he does for the Wildcats of Kansas State, Because it
didn't look like it was a problem because of his
foot quickness and how he's able to accelerate to the
(34:28):
ball and make him play on the ball.
Speaker 7 (34:30):
So I'm with you, Alance.
Speaker 11 (34:31):
I think that Jacob Parris has a real chance to
have a chance at the next level.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
All right, let's get to let's just call Atlance a
Boston college man besides me that you think we should
be talking about a lot more.
Speaker 14 (34:43):
Ozzi Trabilla, the right tackle, he's played a little left tackle.
Bill O'Brien for NFL head coach obviously knows a thing
or two about the pro game. And I watched him
on take. You know, he's six foot eight. He's a
legit six foot eight, and those guys are not going
to be great vendors. They're gonna have a little problem
redirecting and changing direction because that's just the nature of
the high center of gravity. But what I really liked
(35:05):
about him is he's not going to be a big,
powerful run blocker. But I really liked his pass protection.
I thought he did a nice job. He's got good
inside hands, bald, he does a great job of doing
what he needs to and then what I call it
the first phase of putting himself in a position to
take control of the rep and pass pro in these days,
I mean, you're getting paid to be a pass protector
more than a run blocker. And I think he has
(35:27):
very quietly got a chance to sneak into the late
second round, maybe early third, and become a starting right
tackle fairly quickly.
Speaker 7 (35:34):
I'm with you, Alanto.
Speaker 11 (35:35):
He started twelve games at left tackle, twenty four at
right tackle. So and he's clean, hasn't had any injuries.
You watch him and you know he's I think he's
going to get stronger, He's going to grow into his body.
Speaker 7 (35:48):
But you know he's smart going left side right side.
Speaker 11 (35:51):
You know, bending is an issue for guys that are
six foot eight getting down moving defensive tackle hips in
the combo run game, it might be a little bit
of a problem, but I do like to he swallows
guys up on the outside and now he covers him up,
you can still drop an acre. And I think he's
athletic enough at his height to be able to compensate
for things that are difficult for any man that side.
(36:12):
We don't see a lot of six foot eight tackles that,
you know, really excel at the NFL or taller. I
think he's got a chance, so because I think he's
been well coached and it shows up on film.
Speaker 5 (36:24):
All Right, while you guys are talking and I got
one more for you, Lance will come up with an
Ossie nickname and then.
Speaker 6 (36:31):
We'll share it after we go.
Speaker 5 (36:33):
So, first of all, while we're thinking Lance, Ony, don't
you give us a sleeper wide receiver?
Speaker 14 (36:37):
Well, first of all, if you have any time off,
just do one hour Insiders with me and Baldy talking
offensive line for an hour. You guys can take a
full hour problem. Dante Thornton from Tennessee. There's your sleeper.
Six foot five runs in the four threes. You know,
it's really tough for a guy six foot five and
long legs to Usually those are build up speed guys.
He had a one five to one ten yard split.
(36:58):
That is really moving fast. It means he can get
to top speed quickly. He averages twenty one point nine
yards per catch during his career. Now, you know against
the two I safety looks they make park him in
the garage a little bit. He's not going to be
a high volume target, but he is a field stretcher.
He is a big play machine. He can really track
the ball and make plays on all three levels when
it comes to contested catches, and I think he is
(37:20):
a fourth round steal for a team that's looking for
a big guy that can really turn turn on the
explosive plays and stretch that field for an offense.
Speaker 11 (37:30):
You know, Lance, you love the physical part and the
size speed that he presents, but Tennessee, I think inhibits him.
With that super spread offense. He's out there all the
way to the sideline making these catches, so he really
basically runs stops and he runs gos and a lot
of times there's no safety in the middle of the field,
which is fine. He turned those into home runs like
(37:52):
he does right here. Plenty of those type of plays.
But I think at the NFL level he's got to
develop and if somebody is a little patient with them
the way that he runs, with the height and the
range that he has and the breakaway speed, I'm with you,
you might find yourself a real home run hitter in
Thornton right here.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Baldy Lance, thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
A lot more from the two of you here over
these next two weeks before the NFL Draft. In other
NFL Draft news, former Texas wide receiver current NFL draft
prospect Isaiah Bond turned himself into Frisco, Texas police this
morning for a matter related to an outstanding warrant for
sexual assault for The Frisco Police Department said he posted
(38:33):
bond and subsequently was released. In a statement, Bond said,
regarding the accusation made against me, I would appreciate the
time and opportunity to defend myself and prove the claims
made patently false. I am in full cooperation with the authorities.
Wore made a willing and active participant in the investigation.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
Coming up.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
More insiders after this, including the guy who had his
NFL dream come true a couple of weeks ago and
then spent the next six month months or so making
Washington commanders fans dreams come true. No play bigger or
more impactful than that one, and now it's landed in.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
The place it brightly blogs.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
We'll explain after this, Sonny Insiders, the late great John
Madden would have turned eighty nine years old today. Coach, broadcaster,
video game entrepreneur, an absolute legend and also one of
(39:32):
the best you'll ever hear when he's miked up.
Speaker 6 (39:37):
Let's start off and stay after the whole game. Okay
about defect, What the hell.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Are you trying to do?
Speaker 12 (39:44):
No back, John Hey, Hi, produ.
Speaker 14 (39:51):
You Jey, you big Jery ever clung hond on them?
Speaker 11 (39:57):
You certainly do, Johnny, A lot of you know you
deserved a lot of things.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Can't worry about that.
Speaker 7 (40:03):
A team.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
A meeting of two Kings, which still does not beat
a flush Lebron James Derek Henry meeting last night at
the Mavericks Lakers game one of many things it went
well for the Lakers on that particular night. Derek Henry
is still looking for that contract extension. Maybe Lebron can
lend him a little bit of money. Jane Daniels pay
(40:31):
day is coming in park has of plays like this.
We all remember where we were Week eight, Commanders Bears,
the final play, the improbable, the tip to Noah Brown
in the end zone, a play to prove pivotal in
both team seasons. If you ever thought that belongs in
the Louver here's jayde Daniels with the picture of the
play at the louver.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
What do you think, Judy.
Speaker 7 (40:55):
Listen.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
I love that he has embraced the meme. That is awesome.
It belong in the loover.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
I'm glad Jaydon is at the louver. Frankly, the loof
is amazing.
Speaker 5 (41:08):
Yeah, I support all of this. The only thing I
wonder is he's not actually in the louver. Now, maybe
they couldn't take pictures in the loof because, like, if
you're going to hang it in the louver, you gotta
have walls, and he's literally standing outside, so you can't
hang a picture where you're just standing outside with no walls.
Nobody saw a problem with this. I mean, it's a
good idea, but there are no walls.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
I'm not real familiar with the rules of art galleries,
but I imagine if you go inside and try to hang
something that you created, it might cause a bit of
an issue.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
Did he come with that? Ozzie Torpillow nickname yet Ian.
Speaker 5 (41:41):
Ozzy, Crazy Train Tappello crazy Train Ozzy Osboy makes no
sense singer to Tom he had a band
