Speaker 1 (00:09):
You can add another name for the list of starting
quarterbacks who will not be playing in Week three, but
couldn't Jadeen daniels absence stretch beyond the Commander's game against
the Raiders. We will tell you the latest on Daniels
and that spray knee. It's a matchup of two backup
quarterbacks when Jake brown and the Bengals visit Carson Wentz
and the Vikings on Sunday. So how does Browning keep
(00:31):
that offense rolling without Joe Burrow. We will break down
what's at stake starting this week for Cincy.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
With all those quarterbacks out, it.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Could impact the receivers on your fantasy team as well.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Never fear.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Adam Rank is here tonight to tell you which pass
catchers you can trust and which ones to leave on
your bench. Welcome inside with the Insiders presented by Progressive
Insurance alongside Judy Batista and Ian rapporghu oh. A lot
of bed didn't change out of his pajamas and it's
here to do this show. I am Tom peliserra Week
(01:05):
three is underway in the NFL. We had a surprisingly
good one last night with the Bills and the Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
We will break down that game.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Brian Baldier will be here with a Baldi's breakdown on
what exactly is going on with the Chiefs offense. We
start tonight in Washington, where QB one will not be
out there on Sunday. Dan Quinn officially ruling out Jayden
Daniels earlier today for Sunday's game against the Raiders because
of that spring knee he suffered on this play last
(01:34):
Thursday night against the Packers. Marcus Mariota, the veteran, will
get the start against one of his old teams, the
Raiders instead. DQ says that decision is in Daniel's best interest.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Said at the beginning, we were going to be very
diligent on his return to play and make sure we
didn't miss any steps. So we're going to be smart,
not just fast, and player wants to do everything all
the time. That's who he is as a competitor, which
I love. But that's how we'll rolled.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Judy.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
We are very early in this process. It's week three.
It is a long season here. If there's any question
whether you get the one hundred percent Jade Daniel's version,
it makes sense to hold him out. But the questions
now remain what potential timeline and also how functional is
this commander's offense going to be with a guy in
Marcus Mariota who hasn't started in quite a while.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Well, dan Quinn, we didn't show you that part of
the clip where dan Quinn said he wasn't able to
do everything jayde and Daniels, So I mean that doesn't
sound like this was a particularly close decision. Obviously, is
the prudent decision to hold him out, But he didn't
practice normally at any point this week, which is a
stepping stone that they needed to see him do to
(02:45):
even think about putting him out there on the field. Look,
it's week three. If you're making this decision about could
he play in a playoff game, maybe you push it,
but it's week three.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
It's a long season.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Obviously, they need him if they're going anywhere this year.
He uses his legs a lot, He's taken a lot
of hits already. He's been on a lot of pressure
already this season, so you really want him to be
completely one hundred percent physically ready when you put him
out there. This was just the prudent decision, and then
we need to see what it looks like going forward again.
(03:18):
He hasn't practiced normally yet, so we will see what
it looks like next week, and then presumably they will
have a decision to make Again.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
This did really seem like a decision that was not
a difficult one for the commanders, and one reason for
that is because Marcus Mariota is their backup quarterback. He's
making a lot of money for a backup quarterback. Eight
million dollars. That is high high end for backups. The
reason you pay these guys this much money and backup
quarterback maybe the best job on Earth, But the reason
you pay these guys this much money is you want
(03:49):
to be able to make good, sound, smart decisions about
your starter.
Speaker 7 (03:54):
Could Jayden Daniels play this week? He probably could.
Speaker 6 (03:57):
He could hobble out there and be some sort of
starting quarterback at less than one hundred percent and be
better probably than most. But is the right smart decision
for the organization to rest him and make sure he's healthy.
And they can do that because of the confidence they
have in Mariota, because of the experience he has, it,
because the proficiency he has in this commander's offense, and
(04:18):
we have seen it. It is why again, not a
hard decision for the commanders and why they go into
this game on Sunday with I would say nearly nearly
as much confidence as they would if Jaden Daniels was
their start.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
You talk about the money Marcus Mariota is making in Washington,
mac Jones got a pretty good little deal on a
two year contract and he's going to be earning that
on the field. It sounds like again on Sunday, here's
the situation. Brock Purty officially is listed as questionable, but
Kyle Shannon also said it's highly unlikely the party is
going to start as he makes his way back from
(04:53):
left shoulder and toe injuries that sidelined him a week ago.
Ian mac Jones went out, he won a game against
the Saints. They got a huge one on Sunday against
the Cardinals, and even though brock Purty is highly unlikely
to start, it sounds like we could actually see him
in uniform.
Speaker 6 (05:09):
Kyle Shanahan saying today that there is a possibility they're
going to figure it out on Saturday that brock Purty
is the number two quarterback, okay, or maybe the number
three emergency quarterback, which probably makes more sense. In case
of emergency break party, you know, instead of glass anyway, Yes,
that would be the only reason for the forty nine
ers to use their star, their starting quarterback, their franchise quarterback.
Speaker 7 (05:33):
A huge part of their future.
Speaker 6 (05:34):
He has a turf toe injury that is essentially judy
two to five week injury. We are not even at
week two yet. Sunday would basically be week two. He
is not ready to play. The fact that he was
out there on the field this week at practice is
an excellent, excellent sign for week three. But yes, it
certainly seems like mac Jones is primed to start again
(05:55):
as he looks to resurrect his career with the coach
he has always wanted to play for Last week, he
looked good. That was everything you would want to see
from a backup quarterback and everything Mac Jones would want.
It is again why you were able to make this decision,
which is the right thing to.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
Do right much like the Jaden Daniels decision.
Speaker 7 (06:14):
This is the prudent thing to do to.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Sort of protect the player from himself, and you're able
to make it when you have a lot of confidence
in your backup quarterback. Again, Mac Jones performed well last
week in the victory, three touchdowns, no interceptions, He had
a fumble. Obviously, they've got to not have that happen again.
But for somebody again who hadn't played in a while,
(06:38):
this was a good showing for mac Jones. And again
it gives the forty nine ers a cushion and a
cushion that allows them to not have to rush a
rock pretty back on the field. They've got a big
division game, it's against the Cardinals, but the Cardinals do
not have a particularly intimidating defense. Actually, their next few
(06:58):
opponents they've got, you know, middle of the road defenses,
and so maybe that helps as well. It certainly looks
like brock Perty is on the way to getting back
on the field sooner rather than later. But they are
in a very good spot with mac Jones there.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
It's not just the quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
We've had other injuries around the NFL, including a scare
for the Packers and one of their breakout players in
practice yesterday. As we initially reported, Tuckerkraft suffered an injury
to his left kna er in practice, was not able
to finish, did not practice today. He is officially listed
as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns. Matt Lafleur
reiterated what we had said, which is this is not
(07:36):
believed to be long term, but his status at least
for this week remains up in the air. Same goes
for Colts tight end Tyler Warren, the breakout rookie who've
been dealing with a toe injury. He too, officially listed
as questionable for their game on Sunday against the Titans.
Warren was limited in practice the past two days by
a tow injury. So far, he's been a huge piece
(07:57):
of that indie offense. We'll see whether or not they
actually have to adjust as we get the Sunday. Bucks
wide receiver a Mecca Abuka, another top rookie who has
been in the end zone a whole bunch already back
on the practice field. If you're a Bucks fan or
you got him in fantasy, you like seeing that right there.
Official list is questionable for their game on Sunday against
the Jets, dealing with hip and groin injuries. He saw
(08:18):
him getting some treatment and a rap on the sideline
during their last game. Todd Bowles said they'll see how
Abuka is feeling on Sunday morning, so sounds like this
is a game time type of a decision. Meanwhile, Jaguars
wide receiver Brian Thomas Junior officially is off the injury report.
Liam Cohen had said after last week's game he was
dealing with the wrist injury. Maybe given Brian Thomas a
(08:39):
little bit of cover for some of the things that
occurred through the course of that game, but full participant
in practice today.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
He is ready to roll. You know who's always ready
to roll.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Josh Allen, who has won six straight games against the
Dolphins entering last night eight and one against Tuatunguavi Looa.
This is a little bit of a bumpier ride than
we used to seeing for Josh Allen in Buffalo. Early on,
Allan scrambling to the left, Leo get a little wrist
flick right there, the shovel to Jackson Hawes for the
five yard touchdown. Bills take their first lead at fourteen
(09:10):
to seven, Fastest player ever in NFL history to three
hundred offensive touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
That right there at number three oh one.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Mike n Dana was having a good time last night
because the offense was doing some things in the first
half there It is right before halftime. Jalen Watto getting
to waddle in the end zone. All notted up at fourteen.
Third quarter. Now James Cook right up the middle. What
a four Sea's been so far this season? Two yard touchdown.
They retake the lead at twenty one to fourteen, still
trailing by that score to a tongue I Loa now
(09:38):
fourth quarter, trying to go off his back foot and
finds Tyreek Hill in the back of the end zone
for a five yard touchdown. It's all tied up again.
Tyreek getting to the flip. It's good to see the
Dolphins getting to celebrate a little bit in the end zone.
They weren't going to celebrate this though. A chance to
flip the gate. It's tied. All you have to do
is not run into the kicker. Why is Zack Seiler
(10:00):
the field? Why are they going for a punt blot?
Why is he taking out the knees of the new
punter who looks like comedian Bill Burr All fire questions.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
It leads to this. The Bills get the ball back.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
They get it to Khalil Shakir retake the lead at
twenty eight to twenty one. Ensuing Dolphins drive. This is
just a weird play, Tua. He's looking to the flat.
That's where Mike McDaniel says, this pass is supposed to go.
The whole thing looks rushed. He doesn't really take a drop,
throws the ball right to Terrell Bernard. Bills hold on
to win thirty one two twenty one.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Tua. Mike McDaniel frustrated.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Albeit on a night where they reminded you when they're clicking,
they can be a dangerous team. As for the Bills,
mister Thursday, Josh Allen unbeatable, Well, you could say on
virtually any day, at least through the course of the
regular season. He and his coach were fired up in
the locker room.
Speaker 8 (10:57):
Hey hey, I'm gonna tell you what, man's that's a
real mental toughness right there in grit man, right.
Speaker 9 (11:04):
Toe to toe.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
The whole way wasn't going our way. You guys stood up.
Speaker 8 (11:08):
You stood up and made a big time playing TV.
Great for you, And then we got Jimbo tie listen
to me, tied a franchise record, were a consecutive rushing touchdown.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Judy the Bills was not did not put on a
perfect performance last night, but this is what good teams
do you find a way you don't beat yourself. Now
they're sitting there at three of them.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Yeah, I was watching this game and thinking they are
so good, and you're right, this was not their top
level performance, but they are so good. Josh Allen is
so good and playing so well that you can't give
them any air. And the Dolphins did that on multiple
occasions with their own mistakes, and that was just enough.
The roughing the passer penalty that they got down at
(12:06):
the goal line wiped out a sack on the next play,
the Bills score touchdown to tie the game. And then
this the roughing the kicker, which is just brutal. I mean,
why do you have a punk block on anyway? That
of course extended the drive and the Bills score to
tie the game. This was an unexpectedly close game. The
(12:27):
Dolphins played well, they held in there, but they can't
give a team that's this good any extra downs, and
that's what they did to Josh Allen. And then of
course it forced to and the offense to be in
a position where they were trying to catch.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Up in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
This was a tie game earlier in the fourth quarter,
and then he throws the interception, which everybody is focusing
on and saying this is to his fault.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
But there were moments along.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
The way where they gave the Bills opportunities that they
should not have had if the Dolphins were playing a
cleaner game. The Bills are so good you simply can't
give teams like this and opening or they will step
on your neck.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
And that is precisely what they did to the Dolphins.
Speaker 6 (13:08):
Yeah, certainly was not a clean game by the Miami Dolphins,
but effort wise, toughness wise, tenacity wise, the Dolphins were.
There was, as you mentioned, a much better than expected game,
which certainly good news for head coach Mike McDaniel, who
entered the game fair or not amidst plenty of noise
regarding his job security, whether or not the Dolphins would
make some sort of a major move to move on
(13:30):
from him or others in the organization.
Speaker 7 (13:32):
A couple of things to know.
Speaker 6 (13:33):
First of all, that does not sound imminent at all,
based on the conversations I've had with Dolphins people and
people who understand this situation very well.
Speaker 7 (13:41):
That said, if the team continues.
Speaker 6 (13:43):
To play like this, the Dolphins are going to win
games and they are going to threaten to get out
of the hole that they have created for themselves. This
was a I know it wasn't a moral victory, and
I know Mike McDaniel does not like moral victories. It
wouldn't take one. It was at least a good sign
that the Dolphins have some fight and they are going
to continue to play for their coach, because that really
is going to be one of the big things that
(14:04):
owner Stephen Ross and rest of the Dolphins brows are
going to have to judge how much is this locker
room behind McDaniel, And they got a little bit of
a taste of that Thursday night.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
Also reminder of the hoops that Mike McDaniel has to
jump through on a weekly basis to design a game
plan around a quarterback who, based upon his injury history,
you can't let him get hit. On top of that,
you don't have the right side of your offensive line,
which is to his blindside.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
A lot of challenges.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Mike McDaniel providing some reminders last night how good he
can be to a tongue of bellow and now five
turnovers this season, including several at the worst possible times.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
If you're a Jets fan, you know who you're not
going to see this week. You are not going to
see Justin Fields. He was ruled out early this week
on a Wednesday with a concussion he suffered last week.
So it will be Tyrod Taylor with the start. In
some quarters of Jets fans, there's already panic. Aaron Glenn
is here to put you your mind at ease.
Speaker 10 (15:02):
Our guys upbeat, they're motivated. Here's what they do know
is it was week two and the Scot's not falling.
As much as we all think it is, as much
as all also knowing as much as you guys write
about that Scott's not falling. I've been a part of
that situation before, so our guys can rely on that.
(15:22):
A lot of our coaches has been a part of
that situation for before, and they can rely on that.
And so man, these players have to you know. So guys,
we're looking forward to moving on and oh and to
Scott's not falling.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
The Bucks had better injury news for their quarterback Baker Mayfield.
He took a lot of hits last week, but he
did not require an MRI or any other kind of
scan following the week two game, they of course are
two and oh and Baker has led them to game
winning drives in the final moments both weeks. Very tough
performances by Baker Mayfield. Let's bring in our Snara Walsh
(15:59):
to talk about this matchup. A. We were just talking
about how tough Baker has been in weeks one and two.
He's going to have to keep it up because his
offensive line has taken some hits.
Speaker 5 (16:10):
Yeah, Baker Mayfield has been terrific.
Speaker 11 (16:12):
He's one of just three quarterbacks Judy the other, Justin
Herbert and Lamar Jackson that's got at least five touchdowns
no interceptions. But when you consider what he's done with
who he doesn't have, and then those two road wins,
it's been even more impressive. And again Tom brought up
earlier in the show, a Mecca Abuka, their rookie star
wide receiver who's got three touchdowns in two games. He
(16:35):
is questionable, didn't practice all week, so he is being
Baker's officially listed on this injury report as having a
tow having a foot.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
He could probably be listed as full body.
Speaker 11 (16:46):
We know he's going to go, but let's think about
the depth chart here Okay, you have Mike Evans, you
have a Mecca who they really relied on. But that's
also because there is still no Chris Godwin. Jalen McMillan,
who was the star rookie from a season ago, was
lost during preseason, is out for a while.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
The wide receiver room is pretty thin.
Speaker 11 (17:01):
And then I don't know how much time is left
on this insider show, Judy for me to really get
into what's going on with the offensive line, I'm going
to need a full screen if they can pull this up,
because this is going to take some real explaining here.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
It has been injury after injury.
Speaker 11 (17:14):
They knew that they were starting the season without their
all pro Tristan Works.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
You see Graham Barton and.
Speaker 11 (17:18):
Ben Brettison's names highlighted here. That is because in Week one,
these are the only two guys left from that Week
one starting five, everybody else is out. They lost another
two this week. They lost Cody Mack for the season,
They lost Lugetti Key for an extended period of time.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
And then here's the craziest part. If you go back
to that.
Speaker 11 (17:38):
Full screen that I was just talking about, Graham Barton
and Ben Brettison are not even starting in the positions
that they play.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
You may recall Graham Barton, their first rounder from a
year ago.
Speaker 11 (17:47):
He's their center, he shifted over, So this team has
really been doing some patchwork on that offensive line.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
Despite all of that, Judy Baker says that the playbook
is fully open.
Speaker 11 (17:58):
He said, by Sunday, whoever's out, they're going to be ready,
and that has been a big part of this team.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
Next man up, throw them in there, get them ready.
Speaker 11 (18:05):
But this has been some serious injury issues that this
Buccaneers team has been dealing with. The two guys filling
in potentially starting that you saw on their nine total
NFL snaps between them, that would be Luke Haggard Elijah Klin.
I mean, we're pieceing in names that we're going way
down the depth start, we're signing people off practice squads.
So if the Buccaneers, and I know that the Jets
(18:26):
are coming into this win list, but if the Buccaneers
can escape on Sunday and be three and oh, considering
all that they have dealt was so far early on
in this season, I don't think you can give Baker
Mayfield and that coaching staff enough credit for what they've
been able to do so.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
Far, absolutely holding it together with masking tape at two
and oh and getting Tristan Works and Chris Godwin back
in a few weeks, so things would be looking up
if they can get to three and oh under these conditions, Sarah,
you will be back in the show later on now.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Today, Viking's quarterback JJ McCarthy of officially ruled out for
Sunday's game against the Bengals because of that high ankle
sprain he's suffered and last Sunday Nights lost to the Falcons.
McCarthy's been around the team, he's been going through his
rehab process. Kevin O'Connell said today he was even standing
next to O'Connell listening in his play calls were going
in in practice.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
He is staying engaged. But it'll be.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Carson Wentz starting on Sunday against a Bengals team it's
had its own issues. Joe Burrow out at least three months,
underwent what Zach Taylor said was successful surgery for his
severe turf toe injury.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Today.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
That means for the foreseeable future, it'll be Jake Browning
throwing to Jamar Chase will be opposite his old LSU
teammate Justin Jefferson on Sunday and might have a little
something extra for him.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Are you allowed to greet in Minnesota?
Speaker 8 (19:45):
In just so loud?
Speaker 12 (19:47):
I mean if he doesn't want me to, I want
to do it. I mean, if he doesn't want me
to do it, then I'm going to do it man purposely. Yeah, Yeah,
I want to pick them off.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Fired up.
Speaker 9 (20:00):
He's on the other side.
Speaker 12 (20:01):
Who knows what I'll do when I get an end zone?
Maybe I might get a fine this week. Who knows.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
First of all, I love calling your shot, not only
that you're going to do something fun in the end zone,
but also then maybe it might be something that's slightly
against the rules. Who welcome back to the Insiders, presented
by a Progressive Insurance Tom Pelsero, Ian Rappaport and Judy Batista.
Step one, Judy is somebody needs to throw him the
ball to get the touchdown to set up the celebration.
(20:32):
It'll be a guy in Jake Brody that we have
seen throw some touchdowns in the past.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Yeah, and now we're going to see why the Cincinnati
Bengals have so much confidence in Jake Browning that they
made no move to go out and get a veteran
quarterback when we found out that Joe Burrow was going
to be out for at least three months and maybe
the rest of the season, because they love Jake Browning
and they feel really good about his familiarity with the offense.
They won four games with Jake Browning back in twenty
(21:00):
twenty three, and before that, Browning had not played a
game that counted since the twenty eighteen college football season
because he'd been on practice squads in those years in between.
So twenty twenty three when he was thrown in there,
he was still figuring everything out. They were sort of
learning in the moment, and as they went along they
(21:21):
had to adjust the offense. Obviously, he is much more
familiar with what they do now. They are much more
familiar with what he can do now and what he
is comfortable doing now.
Speaker 5 (21:31):
So it's going to be interesting to.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
See how they adjust this offense. One thing to keep
an eye on. When they won those four games with
Browning two years ago, they were running the ball much
more effectively. They were averaging about one hundred and thirty
yards per game in each of those wins. They're not
doing anything close to that right now, They've only rushed
for ninety four yards total in the two games this season,
(21:53):
so it's going to be interesting to see if they
try to get the running game going.
Speaker 7 (21:57):
More.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Also going to be interesting to see if he is
under some more than Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow operates a
lot out of the shotgun. Again in twenty twenty three,
they had browning under center. More going to be really
fascinating to see what they do with him and why
they like him so very much.
Speaker 6 (22:13):
And they do have a good running back, Chase Brown
is good, but so much of it's going to be
on the supporting cast for the Bengals to emerge and
really produce without their star quarterback.
Speaker 7 (22:23):
Same situation for the Minnesota Vikings, though of course JJ
McCarthy has certainly not reached Joe Burrows status just yet.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
You're going to see Carson Wentz do a very cool thing,
which is start for his team that he grew up
rooting for, and he also is going to need a
lot of help.
Speaker 7 (22:38):
The player I want to focus on here is Jordan Mason.
Speaker 6 (22:41):
Now, Jordan Mason was the backup running back for the
San Francisco forty nine ers last year, and the reason
he became a national name is when Christian McCaffrey went out.
He was the guy that saved everyone's fantasy team, not mine.
I wasn't smart enough to get it, even though I
knew about the McCaffrey injury.
Speaker 7 (22:55):
I should have, but I didn't. That's a whole different story.
Speaker 6 (22:58):
He's the guy who stepped in for the forty nine
ers and played so well and then sort of relatively
quiet fashion, was traded to the Minnesota Vikings this past offseason,
got a nice new restricted free agent deal, now under
contract with the Vikings and has looked really good, especially
in Game one for Minnesota. He is going to step
to the forefront time with Aaron Jones on IR with
(23:20):
a hamstring injury, You're going to see a lot of
the very fast, very physical runner Jordan Mason. It's going
to be the contribution of guys like him that are
going to help Carson Wentz win if he is going
to win this weekend.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Vikings offensive line also has headed sheriff issues. Ryan Kelly,
the center, out this week after his latest concussion. Christian Darrisaw,
the left tackle who has not played yet this season,
listed as questionable full participate in practice today, will see
if Darrisaw could make his season debut. So much more
to come here on the Insiders, there's also some moving
parts in the fantasy community with new quarterbacks, with some
(23:57):
receivers who maybe haven't gotten off to the best start.
Time to start the likes of Quinton Johnston in your lineup.
Edam Rank will tackle that name and a whole lot
more right after this. On The Insiders presented by Progressive Insurance.
Speaker 6 (24:18):
New users can now get NFL Sunday Ticket for eight

Speaker 6 (24:37):
Welcome back to The Insiders presented by Progressive Insurance. This
is the segment where the Insiders and NFL Fantasy Live collide.
Kind of like that, Adam Rank, my good friend, Thank
you very much for joining us. As always, we hear
in the Insiders talk about injuries a lot like That's
basically what we doing this week, talking about quarterback injuries.
Speaker 7 (24:58):
One of those quarterback injury.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
Is to Jaden Daniels, the Commander's quarterback, who is not
going to play this week. That affects fantasy things. Take
me through how that affects Terry McLaurin, the star receiver.
Speaker 13 (25:12):
Well, obviously, you want to have Jaden Daniels as your
starting quarterback. And if you're missing Jade Daniels and you
need a quarterback on the waiver wire, Michael Pennix as
the quick fix. But those of us who have Terry McLaurin,
what do we do with him? I say that you
can actually still start him. At first blush, you would
think like, oh, this is going to be a downgrade.
Speaker 7 (25:29):
But in two games last season.
Speaker 13 (25:31):
With Marcus Mariota as the starting quarterback, Terry McLaurin did
pretty well. He was getting targeted a lot, He had
one hundred and fifty total yards, he had a touchdown
in those two games. I really do think that he
is still a low end wide receiver. Two, Deebo Samuel
is also a pretty nice option there as well. We
figure because he has the ability to.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Run the football.
Speaker 13 (25:51):
Both of these guys are going to be available for
you and should be started. You're going to need a
little bit of gucks, like the guts it took to
put on that coral shirt today. But you know what
I approve. I don't want to hear a message from
Tommy p telling me to rip a. I love that shirt.
I think that's a great shirt and I will not
be smirch it.
Speaker 7 (26:10):
I think it's a great shut too.
Speaker 6 (26:12):
The thing you need to know about tom is he
actually doesn't have any fashion sense, so when he sees
me rock something cool, he gets real jealous.
Speaker 7 (26:19):
So that's part of one of the themes of the show. Anyway.
One of the other themes of the show again, injuries
in fantasy. Let's merge them.
Speaker 6 (26:26):
Brock perty not going to start for the forty nine ers.
I don't have Christian McCaffrey on my team, but let's
play pretend what if I did.
Speaker 13 (26:34):
I certainly do, and I started him last week with
no reservations. Mac Jones is a really nice, capable replacement.
Remember there was that rumor years ago I about the Insider.
I just heard a rumor that Kyle Shanahan really liked
mac Jones when he was coming out of college. You
see this with Drew, the ability to go out there
and put players like Mac Jones into a position to
(26:55):
win games.
Speaker 7 (26:56):
He played great last week.
Speaker 13 (26:57):
Christian McCaffrey ran for a fifty plus yards, but he
had a number hit at least five receptions. He had
somewhere around fifty four receiving yards, caught a touchdown. That's
exactly what we're looking like or looking for with Christian McCaffrey.
So I feel very comfortable and I like Mac and
Matt Jones is another one of those options that if
you have Jayden Daniels, Michael Pennix has gone, Daniel Jones
(27:19):
is gone, Matt Jones is a viable option because again,
these guys flourished under the Shanahan coaching system.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
Yeah, he's gonna he's gonna put up some numbers. I
will guarantee you that. All right, we got another one
for you. Ladd McConkie, the standout for the Los Angeles
Chargers banged up all week.
Speaker 7 (27:37):
Now, he's going to play who's a foot per discipline
this week.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
But does that affect Quinton Johnson's status on your fantasy team?
Speaker 13 (27:44):
Well, I think the thing, the biggest thing that kind
of hurts his status is going to be Patrick Sirtan.
That's that's the biggest detriment. But what's interesting. What's interesting
to note about the Los Angeles Chargers is that there's
been a real shift with this team going back to
last season. In seven of the last eight games of
last year, Justin Herbert attempted at least thirty passes in
(28:05):
those games. He has sixty one attempts so far this season.
What we're looking for, though, is the slot receiver because
last week against the Indianapolis Colts, the Broncos gave up
nineteen targets, fourteen receptions, one hundred and forty yards, and
two touchdowns to the Colts slot receivers. So the question
is who's lining up in the slot for the Chargers.
(28:27):
Lad McConkey is usually found there about fifty eight percent
of the time. Keenan Allen is also spending a lot
of time in the slot as well. Those are two
receivers I would look for with the Chargers. Quentin Johnston.
I know he's had a little bit of a mini
breakout this season. You might want to keep him on.
Speaker 7 (28:41):
The bench for one more week.
Speaker 6 (28:44):
Yeah, that's I will wish I had him, Wish I
had him Anyway, I do have Keenan Allen, though it's
been actually a pretty nice signing for the Los Angers Chargers.
Speaker 7 (28:52):
One more for your rank.
Speaker 6 (28:53):
We got Justin Field's not going to play because he's
in the NFL's concussion protocol for the Jets.
Speaker 7 (28:58):
How does this affect Garrett Wilson his star?
Speaker 13 (29:02):
Yeah, I think this one takes a little bit of
a step back. I think that typically Garrett Wilson is
a high end wide receiver too. He's going to be
downgraded a little bit, not to the point you're probably
not benching him unless you have some great options on
your team. Let's say, for instance, I would start Garrett
Wilson over like Quinton Johnson. I would start him over
Terry McLaurin. I would even start him over Deebo Samuel.
So he's still a viable option. But the fantasy points
(29:26):
are going to come back a little bit. We did
see last week Tyrod Taylor, who has not really gotten
a lot of time as a starting quarterback in recent years.
I think his last significant time as a starting quarterback
he got to go back to the years he spent
with the New York Giants. But last week when he
came in, he threw a touchdown You're like, this is awesome,
except that went to Jeremy RUCKERD.
Speaker 7 (29:45):
You're like, not at all. You gotta throw itt the
Garrett Wilson.
Speaker 13 (29:48):
I know you're trying to win a game, Tyrod, but
we also need fantasy production from Garrett.
Speaker 6 (29:53):
Yeah, that was like the what is it called when
you threw a fantasy touchdown?
Speaker 7 (29:58):
And this helps no one? That helps no one?
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (30:01):
That helped That was that was it? That was a
that helps no one? All start last week?
Speaker 7 (30:05):
Yeah, I remember that. I was. I was king of
that helps knowing rank, Thank you very much.
Speaker 6 (30:09):
As always, I took notes from my fantasy team, which
unbelievably is owing to But I got to.
Speaker 7 (30:13):
Get in the locker room. I got to give a
speech players only meeting.
Speaker 6 (30:16):
Hopefully we can get it together this week, because nobody
makes the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (30:20):
If you start owing three, that is something obviously we know.
Great stuff. As always, The twenty.

(30:48):
game on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
She'll be covering it for game day morning.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Right now, she's with us on The Insiders presented by
Progressive Insurance. You might even Sarah for your trip to Foxborough.
Get a glimpse of Christian Gonzalez on the field. What's
the latest on the Patriots star corner.
Speaker 11 (31:02):
Well, Patriots fans are certainly hoping that they could get
him back this weekend.
Speaker 7 (31:06):
They need him.
Speaker 11 (31:07):
They have been allowing three hundred and fifteen passing yards
a game, that is the most in the NFL. Now, Gonzalez,
their star corner, has been out with a hamstring issue
since July. He talked this week about how hard it's.
Speaker 5 (31:19):
Been to be out.
Speaker 11 (31:20):
He returned to the practice field on Wednesday, practice in
a limited fashion all week. Officially listed as questionable, Mike
Brabel said that they're going to evaluate where he is
a little closer to the game. I spoke with their
other starting corner, Carlton Davis. He talked about the fact
that getting him back would make such a difference in
getting this Patriots defense off the field faster. He said,
(31:40):
he would be a huge boost just in terms of
confidence for this defense.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Now, the new England defense. You know, I mentioned the passing.
Speaker 11 (31:48):
Issues that they've had, but they lead the league in sacks,
and Aaron Rodgers talked about their offseason acquisitions that are
a big reason why. When it comes to that, Harold
Landry Milton Williams have combined for five and a half sacks,
and Ers talked about that aggressive, blitzing nature that this
team has.
Speaker 5 (32:03):
He said it is a Mike Rabel defense.
Speaker 11 (32:05):
Rogers Steelers are looking for more explosive plays on offense.
When he was asked what that means, he said, he
wants to see you ten plus yard runs. And I
spoke to John us Smith, their tight end, who told
me that it's not necessarily that it's a breakdown between
the thrower and the runner, the thrower.
Speaker 5 (32:21):
And the receiver. When it comes to these explosive plays.
Speaker 11 (32:23):
He said, there's a lot of things that are breaking
down that you wouldn't necessarily see on the stat sheets.
So when it comes to the Steelers offense going against
this Patriots team, they would love to be able to
do all the little things. He said, own it on
the little details that have stopped them from making explosive plays,
and they would love to make some Sunday in Foxboro.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Tom Well, on the flip side, the Steelers defense has
been giving up explosive plays short games.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
They've been giving it up a lot.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
It's been uncharacteristic really going back to last season and
particularly down the stretch where of course they stumbled. Russell
Wilson didn't play as well on offense, but TJ. Watt
had been invisible down the stretch. They've not been able
to figure out through the first couple of games of
this season how to stop the run, either with Ramandre
Stephenson and Trevion Henderson coming or welcoming them into Foxborough here, Sarah,
(33:08):
how do they get back on track on that side
of the ball.
Speaker 11 (33:11):
Yeah, it's really strange Stephen be talking about the Steelers
defense and what's going on, but they have allowed more
than thirty points in back to back games. That's just
the third time that has ever happened in the Mike
tomlin Era.
Speaker 5 (33:22):
I spoke to their linebacker.
Speaker 11 (33:23):
Patrick Queen, and he said that he understands if there's
panic by Steelers fans given this franchise's history, given what
is expected, and he told me that he doesn't believe
that they have been as physical as they should be.
He told me it starts with me. He said, I've
got to take accountability and be better. And I said,
when you look at the tape and you're trying to
put a finger on and what it is about the
(33:44):
Steelers defense that hasn't been working. He said, maybe it's
the fact that they have so many playmakers on defense
that maybe they've gotten comfortable. He said, they believe, you know,
a certain guy's going to make a tackle, and not.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
Every guy is going to make every play they're supposed
to make.
Speaker 11 (33:56):
So he said, because of that, they need to have
a different mentality. And he said, it's got to be
everyone swarming to the ball, not assuming that the playmaker
next to you is going to necessarily make the play.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
You brought up TJ. Watt, Tom, this is hard to believe.
Speaker 11 (34:09):
Six straight games without a sack for him, so he
could be due. But again, the Steelers defense that's going
to be missing some key players. Joey Porter is going
to miss his second straight game, Alex high Smith is out,
Deshaun Elliott's out, so they're trying to get back on
track in Foxborough.
Speaker 5 (34:22):
They certainly have the talent to do that.
Speaker 11 (34:24):
I don't think anybody would dispute that, but it has
not worked out so far, so we'll see what they
can get together in week three.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Sarah, thank you very much. We will see you Sunday
morning on Game Day morning right here on NFL Network.
Chiefs defense has allowed only one deep completion in twenty
twenty five, tied for second fewest in the NFL. That
has been a strength for a Kansas City team that
rather surprisingly is still trying to figure things out on offense.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
Anybody who's watched.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
The Chiefs over the first two games, no, this has
not been the same type of a Chiefs offense that
we have seen in the passed of course, for Shee
Rice still serving that six game suspension, they've not been
able to get the run game going with Isaiah Pacheco.
Nobody better to tell us what's actually going on than
our guy Brian Baldier with a bald He's breakdown.
Speaker 14 (35:13):
The Kansas City Chiefs are zero and too and I
don't believe anybody is panicking in to Kansas City, but
there is reason to know why they have struggled, especially
on offense, and I have some plays right here that
I'd like to show you as to why they might
be struggling and what they can do about it. Here
the Eagles last week are in a too high shelf.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
All right.
Speaker 14 (35:33):
The safeties are back, but they're not running the ball.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
You shouldn't be able to run the ball against that.
Speaker 14 (35:38):
Look when the safeties are not down and cheat like
you watch this right here. The Eagles are going to
blitz the linebacker against the run.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
That's fine. Trey Smith picks that up.
Speaker 14 (35:46):
But over here, jayleb Moore, for some reason, he leaves
zadarias Smith right here, and Pacheco gets just eaten alive
right there by. Zadaria's for a one yard game.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Now he watch this here.
Speaker 14 (35:57):
Two high safeties, all right, this is when you want
to be able to run the ball.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
It's first and ten right here. You got a five
man box. There's lanes right here.
Speaker 14 (36:04):
They should be able to move enough Eagles here to
find some daylight, and Pacheck will get swallowed up for
a two yard game. Now, when you do get single
high safety, that's when you want to go one on
one and take your deep shots down the field. It's
what Mahomes has been great at his whole career. Now
here you go, you get Taekwon Thornton on the outside
of the little out and up moved right here, and
(36:25):
he gets a step on the corner and the throw
just isn't spot perfect.
Speaker 7 (36:28):
There was an opportunity, and.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
Here the Eagles just blow the coverage.
Speaker 14 (36:32):
I mean, they kind of run into each other right here,
and here's Taekwon Thornton again, who's averaging twenty five yards
agatch wide open, and they don't get the ball to them.
So they've missed some opportunities for big plays and they
need that and they're used to getting those. And they
can help that by running the football and getting some
single high looks where they can get some Manda Man
coverage on the outside and use you know, Mahomes's eyes,
(36:55):
his arm strength, and his accuracy that we've seen for
much of his career. So those are a couple things
I've identified for struggles in the offense. And if they
get that fixed against the Giants this week, they might
be able to get into wind column.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Silmore to come on this edition of The Insiders, including
a little advice from one Giants quarterback to another.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Did Jackson Dorn't ask Eli Manning how to win two
Super Bowls? Not exactly.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
We'll explain next steven Sader's presented by Progressive Insurance.
Speaker 15 (37:38):
I told Jackson if you have any questions about anything,
you know, I'm here for you, you know, football related
or just you know, when you're deciding you know, what
town you want to live in, or this or that
or all sience training camp. He calls me, you know,
one days like, hey, you got you got a minute.
I'm like, yeah, of course. So you know, such a
similar situation you're in, like you know, bringing in a
(37:59):
veteran like Russell Wilson.
Speaker 9 (38:01):
They yeah, sure. It was like maybe this is dealing
with that or something. Just can you give me a
reservation at for Charles tonight at six French Dip in America.
I was like, no, no, no, that's not part of
the deal. I mean, I said, I'm having to help out.
Speaker 15 (38:17):
I'm not doing that yet, yours guy, you have to
earn the right to call and get your reservation.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
That's our old friend Peter Schrager talking to Eli Manning
right there. Judy, Honestly, you got to respect it. If
you're bold enough to call up Eli Mann and the
first thing is, Hey, I really need to get in
for dinner tonight. That's probably a pretty important dinner too.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
I mean, I say this with all due respect to
Russell Wilson, it's going to be so much fun to
cover Jackson Dart as the starting quarterback of the New
York Giants. If this is what we are going to get,
it's gonna be Uh, it's gonna be a blast, and
I look forward to it. I love Eli saying like,
I'm not your reservations guy.
Speaker 7 (39:00):
Yeah, I mean I get it. But on the other hand,
like what is he like doing?
Speaker 6 (39:03):
Like he's I guess he's on the manning it's pretty good,
but like it's not like he's like super busy right
Like And actually, while we're at it, there's a couple
of places I would like reservations too. Corner Store is
supposed to be great, Bungalow is another one. Atomics is
another one in New York City. If you don't know
the right person, you can get in, maybe throw like
a don't you know who I am? You can get in,
(39:25):
but you got to make sure you got.
Speaker 7 (39:26):
The right connect.
Speaker 6 (39:27):
So like this actually should be Eli Manning's new job, considering.
Speaker 7 (39:31):
He literally isn't doing anything else.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
Tom Ian, speaking of advice, have you ever thought before
you get dressed for the show about calling me before
you decide to put on a get up like you're
going to a nineteen fifties pool party.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
They'll be featured in Life magazine.
Speaker 6 (39:45):
I'm actually going to a nice diner after this with
some friends. So I didn't want to change. And this
is one of my best shirts. So I figured there
really were two options. I could hide it from the people.
Why would I do that? That doesn't sound like me.
Or I could show it to the people, which is
what we're doing right now. Judy likes it. I can tell.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
Judy your verdict, your vertical.
Speaker 5 (40:05):
I like that shirt.
Speaker 7 (40:05):
I like I do like the color.
Speaker 4 (40:09):
I'm not sure about the piping. Yeah, yeah, I don't
want to get involved.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
It's an it's a night shirt.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
You you wandered into the Jammy's aisle and you came
out with that and you just decided I'm going to
own it. That's the piping right there. Not to mention
it's fall now essentially and wearing coral is maybe.
Speaker 5 (40:33):
Not entirely one degrees here.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
That's where you're roaring the season.
Speaker 9 (40:37):
Yeah, see, we.
Speaker 7 (40:37):
Should really call find out again. He's not doing anything else.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
Tell me, I want to know the comments that the
people you're going out to dinner with make the moment
that you walk in, because I guarantee there might be
aid comment. Hey, this is the stuff you only get
right here on The Insiders presented by Progressive Insurance.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
We are back next week or on the network seven.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Him Eastern Time, Tuesday, Wednesday Friday, every day on YouTube
every day there's a podcast where Judy and rap Van Winkle.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
I'm Tom Pillacerro.
Speaker 13 (41:08):
See it
