Speaker 1 (00:09):
Happy NFL Eve everyone. There is football tomorrow. The Cowboys
and Eagles kick off things in Philadelphia, and there is
nobody better than our guy, Brian Boldeger, who will join
us tonight to break down a showdown.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
In the NFC East.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
We also have an AFC West showdown Friday night in
South Paulo, Brazil, where our Omar Rewiz hung out today
with the Chargers. He'll tell you the latest on Naji
Harris's status and also catch up with a special guest.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
We got guest Scalore tonight.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Seahawks GM John Schneider's on the show, and so is
that man Texans quarterback c J. Stroud to talk about
great expectations for twenty twenty five in Houston and how
they can start fast against a stout rams D Welcome
inside with the Insiders presented by Progress of Insurance. Alongside
i In Rappaport, Judipatista and Mike Garafolo. I am Tom Pelicero.
(01:06):
The countdown clock is now nearing zero. A little over
twenty five hours from right now, the twenty twenty five
NFL season will be underway and the Cowboys will have
one of their star players out there on the field.
No not Michael Parsons watch this show more often. It's
quarterback Trayvon Diggs, who was officially off the injury report
(01:27):
and is set to play tomorrow night. This seemed impossible
when Diggs underwent a significant and pretty unusual surgery back
in January on his knee. The Cowboys they might not
have him till mid season. Instead, he's been working hard,
making progress. Might've got a pitch count of swords. They'll
be careful, but Diggs is going to be out there
(01:47):
against aj Brown, DeVante Smith and the Eagles. It is
the first time in a quarter century that the Cowboys
and Eagles met in Week one. If you're thinking back
to that game in two thousand, was a forty one
to fourteen Eagles route. Cowboys only counter staame on a
Randall Cunningham touchdown pass against this old team. Yes, it's
(02:08):
been a while. Here's what the current quarterbacks have to say.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Or not better yet?
Speaker 1 (02:17):
How about we bring in Brian Baldier to the conversation
here along with Mike Garrafullo and me. Baldy, You're gonna
be there, Mike, you are as well, Baldi. What are
you most excited to see in this game?
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Uh, probably what Nick Sirianni says. They're not going to
see just Eagle fans enjoying the banner being unfurled for
being Super Bowl fifty nine champs. No, I mean, first week,
first game of the season is always about Okay, it's
the first time basically any of the starters have been
out there for any time. What's the level of execution?
(02:50):
You know, are they able to move the ball? Ken
teams stop the other teams from moving the ball? What
kind of mistakes are being made? First time you're all
out there. What's the level of execution for the cowboys
of the Eagles week one? After all this preparation where
nobody really plays in the preseason and you know, the
heck with the scrimmages like it's game day? So can
(03:12):
you make these kind of throws? Jalen Hurst made right
there to Devontae Smith. Is the tush push going to
be effective? Did stalls have an answer for it? Some
of those basic things that both these teams see back
and forth on their cutups week in week out all
season long.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Paul, I want to see the Eagles offense because you've
got to change an offensive coordinator with Kevin Fittulo and
I have mentioned multiple times on this program over the
last couple of months, Boy, we've been talking a lot
about football without regular season games.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
It's so nice that we're going to get back to
hav an actual game.
Speaker 6 (03:47):
To talk about.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
But we've been talking about how it's the Eagles philosophy
that has been the overriding driver for this offense the
last couple of years. And Kellen Moore came in for
a year and like brought in some fresh ideas and
they've melted with what they do. So they're still gonna
run the football. It's still gonna be a big part
of what they do. But I don't know, I just
I feel like there's an element of an aerial attack
(04:08):
because they know what all these defensive coordinators spent the
entire offseason doing, figuring out a way to slow down
Saquon Barkley in this running game.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
Great, while you're doing that, we're.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
Gonna figure out a little more of this, a little
more of putting the ball in the air. And what
better way to show it to everybody than in the
opener on Thursday night when everybody's watching and now, all
of a sudden, you got a game plan for that
throughout the season. So I just I feel like we're
gonna see Jalen Hurts put the ball in the air
plenty of times tomorrow night as a message to the
rest of the league that, yeah, we ran the ball
(04:38):
great last year.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
We can also do a little This.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
One of the best days on the entire calendar when
we can finally stop talking about what might happen and
what things might look like and start actually having a
game two breakdown. Balding more from you in a bit
stick around, Mike, you as well.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
For now, Ian.
Speaker 7 (04:59):
Green Bay Pack have a game that they're going to
break down, and that guy right there, Micah pars is
expected to be a participant, which, of course you'd say.
Packers trated two first round picks and a player and
paid him forty seven million dollars a year.
Speaker 8 (05:11):
Of course he's going to play.
Speaker 6 (05:13):
Had a little bit of a back injury.
Speaker 7 (05:14):
We discussed it a facet joint spray, in which we
all learn what that is. Matt Lafour, his head coach,
for the first time since the trade, addressed Parsons back.
Speaker 9 (05:26):
We'll see, I mean, we're still he's doing everything in
his power.
Speaker 10 (05:30):
He's rehabbing hard.
Speaker 9 (05:33):
You know, we've got to get through a couple of
practices to see how he responds, to see how he does,
but certainly hopeful.
Speaker 11 (05:50):
You know who else is also going to play this weekend.
Terry mcclaurin, the wide receiver for the Commanders. He was
a full go at today's practice in preparation for their
opener against the Giants on Sunday. Coach Stan Quinn said
he's doing really strong. That's how Quinn said it. That
means he's getting his normal amount of practice. McLaurin, for
his part, says he feels great, he is ready to go.
He would not say if he feels like he needs
(06:12):
to be on a pitch count, but he did say
that he plans to be in communication with the coaches
during the weekend.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
To let them know how he is feeling. But he
did say very.
Speaker 11 (06:21):
Much looking forward to another season with Jaden Daniels and
Ian Who can.
Speaker 8 (06:26):
Blame him, Yeah, no doubt about it.
Speaker 7 (06:29):
Meanwhile, for the Baltimore Ravens, they are not expected to
have Isaiah likely their standout tight end, for the opener
against the Buffalo Bills, and may not have him for
the week after either remember he's dealing with the broken
foot late late July brokeer his foot usually six seven,
maybe eight week injury. John Harbaugh is saying today maybe
(06:50):
he was ahead of schedule, but either way not expected
to be on the field for the opener.
Speaker 8 (06:54):
But don't worry.
Speaker 7 (06:55):
They still have Mark Andrews, who is still an excellent
height end judy.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
All Right, some rough injury news for the Jets today.
Speaker 11 (07:04):
Guard Elijah Vera Tucker, who is arguably their best offensive lineman,
is fear to have suffered a significant triceps injury during
practice earlier this week. If he misses significant time, and
that's certainly the expectation right now, big blow to the Jets.
They want to be a physical running team. It's also
a blow to Vera Tucker, who's had a lot of
injuries during his career. He's playing on the fifth year
(07:25):
of his rookie contract.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Very tough timing for.
Speaker 11 (07:29):
Him on a personal level, and of course, four days
before the opener against the Steelers, the Jets now have
to shuffle their offensive line.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
The Jets did not practice today.
Speaker 11 (07:38):
But on the injury report they put out this afternoon,
quarterback Sauce Gardner was listed as a projected limited participant.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
With a fibula injury.
Speaker 11 (07:46):
He has been dealing with calf swordness this summer. The
Jets are back on the field tomorrow in preparation for
their opener against this stealer Sunday, so we should get
a better idea of Sauce's condition then Mike, keep it.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
New New Jersey, the Jets of the Giants. You talked
about the Jets, I talked about the Giants screwed that
one up. Malik Neighbors, not listed on the injury report,
has had tow and back issues in camp that he's
been dealing with.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
It does not mean that he's.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
Magically one hundred percent healthy. Just because he's not on
the injury report doesn't mean that he's not hurt. So
this is something that's a great sign for the Giants
that he's not on there. He is expected to play.
Will he be at one hundred percent? Giants are hopeful
that's gonna be the case. Better hope so can need
him for Russ to throw to.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Tom Lions head in. Sam Laporta had missed some time
with an undisclosed injury back in camp.
Speaker 8 (08:37):
Low and behold first injury report of the season. Came
out today. Laporta is not on it.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Definitely good news if you drafted him to be your
tight end one in fantasy football. Aiden Hutchinson, also coming
off of that gruesome leg injury last year, not on
the report either. Ready to roll in the opener against
the packersy and for the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 7 (08:58):
When I was actually there in training camp, there was
a stadium practice. It was awesome, and Khalishakira suffered an
ankle injury, high ankle sprain. They got to put a
damper on some things. He was a full participant in
the on the injury report today. That is a very
good sign for his availability.
Speaker 6 (09:13):
For the opener.
Speaker 7 (09:14):
Meanwhile, his partner in crime, Kean Coleman, another really good
young receiver.
Speaker 8 (09:19):
He is dealing with a groin injury.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
He is limited.
Speaker 7 (09:22):
So so many teams want to get through the opener
one hundred percent.
Speaker 10 (09:26):
Bills aren't quite there yet.
Speaker 7 (09:27):
Just doesn't seem like anything to too significant.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Mike Mice.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
Most teams entered the season completely healthy. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
though they had some injuries coming in here, Chris Godwin
being one of them. That's from last year with that
ankle No surprise. He was expected to miss a couple
of weeks here as he works his way back into shape.
Tristan Wurf's there with the knee. Another one that's not
a surprise at all. Vitevea with that foot. He's had
(09:52):
some lower leg and foot issues before. Did not practice today.
He is such a key part of what they do
in the center of that defense. So let's see if
he can give himself back to wrackedice ahead of Sunday's
game against the Falcons.
Speaker 12 (10:04):
Whatever, Bro, stop telling your secrets on Richard Sermon podcast. Dudes,
you need u palms look slick rathery ain't getting me.
Come on, let's go have some enthusiasm.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Let's go.
Speaker 13 (10:15):
That's not here's the snap, CJ looking, CJ firing downfield,
hits Nico touchdown.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Let's go, man, Let's go.
Speaker 7 (10:26):
Let's go.
Speaker 14 (10:27):
Man.
Speaker 10 (10:28):
Everything that you've got, Bro is in you already.
Speaker 15 (10:30):
Bro, You're gonna be held to player in this league.
Odd boy.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Appreciate for sure.
Speaker 11 (10:34):
Welcome back to the Insiders, presented by Progressive Insurance, Judy Batista,
Brian Baldinger.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
And Houston Texans quarterback c J. Stroud.
Speaker 11 (10:42):
Welcome to the Insiders, CJ. We are so close to
football again. How are you feeling about twenty twenty five.
Speaker 16 (10:49):
I'm feeling great, bless and just grateful to be in
the NFL for another year. I was great team, is,
great city. So yeah, I'm very very blessed and happy.
Speaker 8 (11:00):
See Jay.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Let me just get the first things out of the
way here. Congratulations to the Buckeyes. Nice win on Saturday.
Take care of business. They look like they'ing in good
shape here. But the last time we saw you, Ceja
Playoff lost to Kansas City. Tough one, but a lot
of changes offensive coordinator, offense line, coach, personnel, Like how
(11:21):
quickly do you begin to assimilate new teammates, new system,
new way of doing things to get ready for the
season right now?
Speaker 16 (11:31):
Yeah, I think you got to have that next game
mentality when it's there in the season.
Speaker 15 (11:36):
But you know, after the season, you're really.
Speaker 16 (11:40):
Looking at yourself scout to see what you can do better,
some pieces you can add to see where you could improve,
or you know, you can get some more debt. So
I think we've done that this year and I'm happy
where we're at. We had a good camp and you know,
brought in some good guys to fit our scheme, so
I'm excited.
Speaker 11 (12:01):
One of the changes is you have a new offensive coordinator,
Nick Kelly, and as part of that, You've talked about
this a little bit in the summer. You're expected to
have more ownership of the offense, more control of the offense.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
I know you've had that in college.
Speaker 11 (12:14):
You actually had it in high school too, But how
what does that mean to you? How does your day
and your performance change when you have a little bit
more control of the offense.
Speaker 16 (12:25):
It doesn't really change much. I mean, I'm a really
a guy who loves prepared. I'm always prepared, I believe
as I even prepared to the point where I don't
think I'm prepare enough. And I'm always looking back on
how I can look at this, and so I've been
that way since I've been a kid. But also I
don't know, I've always tried to know where I could
(12:47):
be technically blitched, or the coverage can change so or
the players I can try to flip it to even
when we weren't really doing that. So I mean, it
doesn't really change as much I wouldn't think, But it
doesn't really intriguing me that much. I think it's it's
more important for y'all, but it's kind of normal to.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Me, you know, CJ. You open up obviously with the
Rams this weekend. You're a so cow kid. You're going
back to southern California. But the Rams do have a
talented team. I know you've been busy watching them and
watching that defensive front. Do they look like a special
group to you right now? CJ? Do you have to
(13:25):
treat them like that? Jared Vers and some of the
guys that we have seen really developed quickly in that
defensive front.
Speaker 16 (13:33):
Yeah, I do. I believe that. I think they have
a great defensive front. You know, the front seven is great.
I think their back end is really good. They play together,
you know, they swam, they tackle, they they try to
you know, have you hold the ball for a little
longer just so the d lion can get home.
Speaker 15 (13:51):
So they do a good job of rushing that coverage.
Being together.
Speaker 16 (13:53):
So you know, every every game is really harder than
every game to prepare to, you know, to your best
ability to you know, give your chance a team to win.
So this definitely, you know arrange true in this in
this against his opponent on away game, first game of
the year, the emotion is going to be high, the
pace is going to be fast, and I'm excited.
Speaker 10 (14:13):
Man.
Speaker 16 (14:14):
I think, you know, we're prepared. I think they're getting
prepared too. So it's gonna be good on good, and
it's gonna be a battle.
Speaker 11 (14:21):
Obviously, sacks were an issue last season. There was some
rejiggering of the offensive line in Houston. Where do you
think that offensive line? And you are you on the
same page now and how comfortable are you that the
sacks are going to be minimized, especially as you said,
a week one against a formidable defensive line.
Speaker 16 (14:43):
I would say, yes, I have faith in my guys.
I always try to you know, I think I'm on
the same page with him constantly. I think, you know,
the scheme definitely helps him out more so that's good.
And yeah, I mean I always have faith in my guys,
and I'm not a negative person and I don't try
to lead with negativity and try to uplift those guys.
(15:03):
And yeah, it's part of my job too to get
the ball out and to be smart Marie. So you know,
we don't, you know, hold the ball so Delon can
get home. So yeah, it's just like his third job
it's also mind. So I have to hold myself to
a better standard and be better myself.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
CJ. One of the new guys in your program is
a guy that we all have the most amount of
respect for, Nick Chubb as a person, a man, a player.
He's in a new spot right now, and we don't
really know what Nick Chubb is right now. Is he
a guy that basically was the best running back in
football for about a five year stretch? What have you
(15:40):
seen from Nick this summer to the Houston Texan fans
and your fan base out there that says Nick Chubb
is this is the real deal? Like he's back.
Speaker 16 (15:51):
I would just say you can come to the game
and watch. I think, you know, he's put a lot
of great work in the camp. You know, we can
talk about a bunch of different stuff, but you know
everything will be shown on Sundays. And he's to me,
he's not only look great, but he looks like he's,
you know, a little upset like that people.
Speaker 15 (16:12):
Riding them off. And you know, I think, what what's
cool about Nick?
Speaker 7 (16:15):
Though?
Speaker 16 (16:15):
He's he's more so focused on his job and what
he can control, and I thought he's done a great job.
Is off season on, you know, focusing on what he
can control he can't, he really lets it go. And
he's done a great job with our OH line uplifting
those guys and setting them blocks for them making them
look good.
Speaker 15 (16:32):
So yeah, I'm really excited to go see him a.
Speaker 10 (16:37):
C J.
Speaker 11 (16:37):
Before we let you go, we want to ask you
to tell us what you're doing with Ashley Furniture and
the Delivering Dreams program.
Speaker 15 (16:44):
Yeah, so this is a long time to work with Ashley.
It's been amazing.
Speaker 16 (16:49):
I'm been working college and they're really pillars and a
lot of communities around the country. And then this is
their Delivering Dreams initiative. Well, they'll give you a select
family a full house makeover with a lot of furniture
and you know a lot of different great things that
they're going to supply to that family and not only
(17:09):
will they win, but there would.
Speaker 15 (17:10):
Be another family who will win as well. So I'm all.
Speaker 16 (17:15):
About getting back and trying to, you know, help people out.
And I think Ashley is, you know, one of the
people who I've signed up with and done partnership with
who love to do that. So I'm very excited for it.
It's an amazing thing. And I'm really excited to be
part of it.
Speaker 11 (17:31):
Well, you have always been very involved in your community,
so that is a credit to you.
Speaker 10 (17:35):
To c J.
Speaker 11 (17:36):
Stroud, thank you so much for joining the insiders.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Lots of luck this season.
Speaker 15 (17:40):
Thank you guys. You'll have a great one.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Cjep Good news for the Cowboys ahead of tomorrow's opener
against the Eagles. Trayvon Diggs is back. Their star cornerback.
Underwent surgery in January on his knee. They did weren't
anticipating he was going to be able to return until
sometime around mid season. Diggs got activated a couple of
weeks to go to the active roster, practiced in full.
(18:03):
He is off the injury report and officially ready to roll.
Good Night to have him against AJ Brown, DeVante Smith
and company. Cowboys will not have Micah Parsons because that's
what happens when you trade one of your best players
to the Packers.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Him and Matt.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Lafleur now getting acquainted. Parsons is still dealing with that
L four to L five joint sprain in his back.
Matt Lafleur is saying, today's doing everything in his power
to be ready. They are certainly hopeful. Parsons officially listed
as limited on the injury report. Friday night, we got
the Chargers in chiefs in Brazil, another export that that
(18:39):
city of Sal Paulo should certainly enjoy. I know or
omar Wais is already enjoying it. He comes to you
right now from Brazil.
Speaker 17 (18:48):
The Chargers just wrapped up practice here at the Corinthian
soccer team's training facility after arriving in South Paolo around
nine this morning. It was about an hour workout in
front of one hundred and thirty media members around the world.
Coach Jim Harbaugh saying it's an honor to play on
this global stage, a huge game, and they're excited about
the opportunity to help grow the game internationally. The big
(19:11):
news is that running back Naji Harris is expected to play.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
On Friday night.
Speaker 17 (19:16):
Of course, Harris is coming back from the eye injury
he suffered during a fourth of.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
July fireworks accident.
Speaker 17 (19:21):
Harris return to practice last week, was cleared for contact
this week, and is now good to go, Harbaugh saying
they'll monitor Harris's workload as the game unfolds. The Chargers
will hold a walk through tomorrow at Corinthians Arena, where
the game will be held on Friday, while the Chiefs
are expected to arrive in South Palo tonight and they'll
be holding their walkthrough and media availability tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
Thank you, Omar.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
What a game it was in the playoffs Ravens and
Bills up there in Buffalo.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Wouldn't you know the rematch week one? The kickoff of
this game eight twenty pm Sunday night.
Speaker 5 (19:57):
Yeah, battle of a couple of MVP in this game,
and here is the sound from both of them.
Speaker 18 (20:04):
They've got some absolute studs over there.
Speaker 15 (20:07):
You know.
Speaker 18 (20:07):
Their their third down package is really hard to stop.
It's hard to see.
Speaker 15 (20:12):
You know.
Speaker 18 (20:13):
Luckily we'll be at home and be able to communicate
a little bit better than we were early.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
On in the season last year.
Speaker 18 (20:19):
And obviously we played them in the playoffs and we
understand there's gonna be a lot of heightening emotions on
both sides, and you know, we're just trying to go
out there and have a good week of practice, watch
them third downs after this and try to get to
get the best game plan that we can together and
try to go execute.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
We talked to Mark a couple of times about that
game and looking forward to this one.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
He says, he's very excited.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
He looks very motivated throughout camp.
Speaker 10 (20:44):
What have you kind of seen in terms of your teammates.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
But as you come to know and what do you think?
What do you expect going into Sunday's game?
Speaker 19 (20:51):
The mark that we always get, you know, a guy
who loves football, guy who's eager to win, who wants
to win, the same guy you know, night change.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
Yeah, that's a tough one.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
Mark Andrews at that two point conversion, he felt like
he could have hauled in there after that touchdown, Isaiah
likely the Bills holding on for the win. Brian Balding
or Steve Weiss here to talk about the rematch? Steve,
what about the importance of this game here for Baltimore
again knowing how close that was and talking about getting
over the hump in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
I know it's Week one, but does that stuff matter?
Speaker 13 (21:26):
Yes, it does, and it comes down to potential playoff
tie breakers. Look, the Ravens finished last season twelve and five,
the Bills thirteen and four.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
And Baltimore beat Buffalo in the.
Speaker 13 (21:35):
Regular season, so they had the head to head tiebreaker.
But what hurt Baltimore last year, we're starting the season
zero and two and that's where their defense let it down.
Their defense in the first half of the season last
year was not very good. They made some changes and
got better, but then the playoff game against Buffalo, the
ground defense got gashed. And Baldy, you and I were
(21:57):
training camp there together. We know this has been an
emphasis for the Ravens and getting that run defense tightened up,
because you know, Josh Allen is the ultimate X factor,
but they can't let him leak out. They've got to
be disciplined to make sure James Cook doesn't break a
tackle and leak out. And that's going to be part
of what they have to do. Because Baltimore knows that
they can beat the Bills, they just don't want to
(22:18):
have to play them in Buffalo in the playoffs like
they did last year, which is why winning a game
like this could be important when it comes to deciding
homefield advantage in the postseason.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Yeah, Steve, They're all important.
Speaker 10 (22:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
The first year, everybody wants to get off to a
good start, and you know, I just think that what
I want to look for is we have seen Lamar
Jackson in this offense with his offensive coordinator improve every
year and last year, I mean, he statistically should have
been the MVP. No. No offense to Josh, but the
stats of throwing forty one touchdowns and four receptions and
(22:54):
running for almost a thousand yards was unheard of. But
he keeps getting better. And now you add Nuke to
this offense. Like what is Buffalo going to do against
the Ravens offense right now? And all of the weapons
including Derrick Henry and you know, and Lamar and everybody
right now, healthy Mark Andrews and his receiving corps. They've
(23:15):
got weapons everywhere, They've got injuries in the secondary to
Buffalo to start the season right here, can they affect
Lamar and get him off the field on third downs?
Because that, to me is going to be the difference
in his game, is can they get Lamar off the field?
Because this offense looks almost unstoppable right now.
Speaker 5 (23:36):
Yeah, this is going to be a fascinating one. And
you know what it means to Baltimore. Steve laid it
out for you, and you know what it means to
Josh Allen and the Bills to get off to a
fast start as well. Remember Isaiah Likely who caught that
touchdown that I was talking about in the playoffs, not
expected to play according to our Ian Rappaport.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Speaking of Ian Rappaport, Ian, what.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
A great transition to me.
Speaker 7 (24:00):
Let's talk about Jaguars Panthers for a week one. Actually
a sneaky, really good game for two teams who are
trying to prove they are much more for real this
year than they were last year. Both these teams reloaded
in the offseason, and the Jaguars added that guy right there,
Travis Hunter, really one of the biggest curiosity to see
of the season, starting wide receiver, backup corner.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
All on the depth chart.
Speaker 7 (24:24):
Gotta can't wait till the season starts so we could
stop talking about depth charts. Speaking of good things, Welcome
to good coverage presented by Progressive Insurance. Our good friend
Bucky Brooks is our Jaguars expert. Bucky, take me through
what is going to happen with Travis huntrew by the way,
he has been known to do some.
Speaker 6 (24:44):
Good coverage himself.
Speaker 7 (24:46):
Tell me what the plan for this electric talent is
for Jacksonville.
Speaker 14 (24:51):
Everyone has talked about Travis hunder being a two way star,
but I want to tell you he's going to be
a one and a half way player when it comes
down to it. I mean he's going to start four
time on the offense and then be a rotational player
on defense.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
He's listed as their knickelback and he will play nickel situations.
Speaker 14 (25:07):
But really on defense, he's a get off the field player,
meaning when there are these serious situations where you need
to get off the field is predominantly a passing situation,
he will be on the field. And because the Jaguars
planning to play so much zone coverage, it plays to
his strengths as a vision and break defended meaning Seaball
get ball, utilize his ball skills, his length and athleticism
(25:29):
to make plays third down, red zone, two minute, end
of game situation. So don't expect him to be on
the field for every snap of the game, but when
it's a critical situation on offense or defense, number twelve
will be on the field.
Speaker 8 (25:44):
Man, the ultimate matchup player.
Speaker 7 (25:45):
Really have not seen one like this, especially on both
sides of the ball, in forever, maybe ever. Bucky, Thank
you very much, great stuff. Can I wait to see
the Travis Hunter experience for the Jacksonville Jaguars also can't
wait to see the Seahawks experience with our good friend,
the number one fan of the Insiders, so much till
he calls us the Outsiders. Seahawks general manager John Schneider,
(26:07):
who brought in that guy right there this offseason.
Speaker 8 (26:10):
Let's ask them all about it.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Eight division matchups across the NFL, and here's one we
have seen some good ones from over the years.
Speaker 8 (26:28):
Forty nine Ers and Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
That in the mid afternoon window on Sunday four five
pm Eastern, one oh five Pacific, and we're please be
joined right now on The Insiders, presented by Progressive Insurance,
by the President of Football Operations and general manager of
the Seahawks, John Schneider. John, Great to see your smiling face.
You're one of our favorite guests, one of our most
(26:51):
loyal viewers. How we doing out there a few days
before kickoff?
Speaker 10 (26:56):
Good to see you guys. Great, awesome, awesome onnier.
Speaker 20 (26:59):
Great weather today, the sun's out, which is always amazing
in Seattle.
Speaker 10 (27:02):
So yeah, awesome day. We're getting ready to go.
Speaker 20 (27:05):
I like that intro too, right, forty nine Ers, like
I went to the National Football League.
Speaker 10 (27:09):
Let's just jump right in right. Okay, first game of
the year, let's go.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
Well, that was my question to you guys, was you know,
when you get a divisional rival, I don't know, you know,
your coaches are formulating the game plan.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Is it better? I mean, is it better to have
somebody that you know right off the back?
Speaker 5 (27:24):
Because I always hear a lot of times you're playing
somebody who don't know. Maybe a coaching chase, like you
got to make some guess work. At least this you
pretty much know what the forty nine ers do.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 20 (27:34):
I stopped trying to guess on that stuff a long
time ago. You know, Like it's interesting though, like having
the two Kubiak brothers. I think that's kind of random.
You know, those two guys and they look almost exactly
like you think it looked like.
Speaker 10 (27:45):
Twins with their media guy pictures.
Speaker 9 (27:46):
You know.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
So so, John, you kept us busy through the course
of this off season.
Speaker 8 (27:53):
You made a lot of big moves.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
You trade DK, trade Geno, you bring in Sam Darnold,
you bring in Cooper Cup. From GM standpoint, you're and
you're watching this through price you'll find out on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
But how are all.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
These new parts kind of coalescing here as you get
ramped up to week one.
Speaker 20 (28:11):
I think it's been great, you know. I mean there's
been a tonnel synergy here. You can feel it in
the building. A lot of excitement, you know.
Speaker 15 (28:17):
Mike.
Speaker 20 (28:17):
Mike's done a great job, you know, with with with
the new offensive staff and just the cohesion and like,
you know, bringing everybody together and you know, spending time.
Players spend a lot of time together. You know, we
travel the Green Bay. That was a great That's always
a great team bonding experience when you go on the.
Speaker 10 (28:32):
Road like that.
Speaker 20 (28:33):
And uh, yeah, I just think it's been great. You've
seen you know, steps every day. You know, we talk
about you know, stacking wins every day and and uh
you've been seeing it.
Speaker 10 (28:42):
And so we're excited. We're excited to get going, you know.
Speaker 20 (28:45):
And I'm just glad you guys are you know, paying
attention to us up here in the you know, great Northwest.
Speaker 10 (28:50):
You know, get a little attention. It's kind of nice.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
Oh we we we pay attention to your plenty.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
You guys are fun and you're sassy as you are
right now.
Speaker 10 (28:57):
Nobody cares.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
They don't love push with anybody else network.
Speaker 4 (29:05):
We love we love this. You've been on more than
anybody else.
Speaker 20 (29:12):
That's because I watched the show all the time, you know,
the Football Outsiders, I guess right, you know, but no, yeah,
we love we love being up here and be kind
of being under the radar and all that.
Speaker 10 (29:18):
It's kind of it's kind of fun.
Speaker 5 (29:20):
You knew that was coming The Outsiders. Mike McDonald in
year number two. How do you compare what you're seeing
from him right now than you did last year when
he was in his rookie year.
Speaker 20 (29:32):
Yeah, you know, last year I thought there was a
lot of intent and in clarity, you know, with Mike
in the program that he was establishing. And then you know,
there's just that much more this year, right, and then
and working in you know Koobs and and uh the
new offensive staff too, and and having that you know,
proven offensive scheme and we've been able to study over
the years, you know, so you know it's been great. Look,
(29:54):
it's hard, I mean, that's that's hard, you know, taking
over for you know, like such a legend and pe
Carol and you know, I mean the big personality too,
and and you know we've been established.
Speaker 10 (30:06):
Here for a long time. There's a specific culture set.
So I think just.
Speaker 20 (30:09):
Being able to have that offseason too, where you know,
you can really focus on his own messaging.
Speaker 10 (30:14):
And to his staff and and you know.
Speaker 20 (30:17):
Throughout the throughout the building and and what that looks
like in our whole operation. And you can really see it,
you know, on the on the field right now, the
way the guys are practicing and and uh performing. Yeah,
it's it's it's it's been. It's been pretty cool to
see he's uh, he's really exciting.
Speaker 10 (30:33):
He's fun to work with and uh, you know.
Speaker 20 (30:35):
He's got that he's got that intensity and then he's
got that real fun loving side too, So it's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
I'm fascinated by your wide receiver group because obviously we
saw Jackson Smith and Jigbow he could be a high
volume type of a producer for you. You're bringing Cooper Cupp,
who you know, a few years ago he was the
best post productive receiver in the NFL.
Speaker 8 (30:56):
He's had some bumps in terms of injuries here.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
How was that entire group not to get fantasy football advice?
Strog But if I did want some how do you
anticipate the division of the football going around with that?
Speaker 8 (31:07):
What you're seeing from that group.
Speaker 20 (31:10):
Well, I think you know, with Clinton in New Orleans,
you know, spreading the ball around down there, I think
it's it's uh, it should be pretty exciting with this
group because they're all you know, all of them have
specific skill sets and uh, you know, they're all unique,
so you know, all six of them. So, uh, you know,
we're excited to see where it goes. Cooper's been awesome,
you know, such a such a strong leader, you know,
(31:31):
with his work ethic is football intelligence and and.
Speaker 10 (31:36):
Yeah, he's been great. He's been great for the group.
Speaker 20 (31:39):
It's been great for jsn Uh, you know, the whole
the whole group really, you know, Tori's done a nice job. Thereek,
you know, Bobo, those guys are all those guys are.
Speaker 10 (31:48):
All doing a great job.
Speaker 20 (31:49):
And you know there's some physicality in there. There's you know,
some great route runners and obviously great hands and some
special teams play as well.
Speaker 5 (31:58):
John, this is one of the benchmarks that we look
for training started training camp as one of them, but
also started the regular season where guys try to get
their deals done before they set foot on the field.
You guys, I think Charles Cross, Kobe Bryant's been mentioning
you guys have anything potentially coming.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Up here that you can get done before you kick
off on Sunday.
Speaker 10 (32:17):
Yeah, so I'll tell you exactly what we're working on
right now.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
No, I won't go ahead, I'm listening.
Speaker 10 (32:26):
No, let's go.
Speaker 20 (32:30):
We're always working on stuff behind closed doors, and uh,
you know, Joey Lane, our whole group, I think we
do a really nice job of keeping that under wraps.
Sometimes sometimes uh you know, we get things done. Sometimes
we don't, and uh, you know, if you don't at
this time of the year, it doesn't mean that that
that we won't be you know, still trying to push
towards the end of the season or you know, the
window right after the season afore free agency starts. So
(32:53):
you know, we have a number of guys that are
that are coming up next year that we we love
and want to be here for a long time, and uh,
you know, we'll just be continuing to work that process.
But yeah, I was hoping to you know, Scoop you
guys on your on your show, But I.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
Just anytime, bro.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
So, speaking of working on things here, you you've always
been active in every different avenue of team building. You
were trading first round picks before that was like a
cool in vogue thing, now that everybody does. There's two
guys in the league I know, you know well, Brian
Goodakouns and Brian Schottenheimer. They're on either end of the
Micah Parsons trade recently as somebody who's been through like
(33:35):
massive trades like that. With now it's people, you know,
what is your reaction as like the observer? Are you
taking this in like a fan? Are you calling these
guys like how do you how do you see all
that go down?
Speaker 10 (33:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 20 (33:47):
Just you know, just kind of texting with both of
them and you know, hoping it works out for both sides.
I mean, ultimately, when you're doing deals like that, you
want it to be the perfect fit for everybody involved,
and you know, from not knowing what's going on on there,
you know, with with with both situations, I think it's
exciting for both teams. Right one team gets you know,
(34:09):
a darn good player and you know several first round
draft picks, and then another player gets a great pass
rusher and overall football player. So yeah, you know, obviously
both those guys are very good friends of mine and
just wish the best of both of them.
Speaker 15 (34:24):
All right.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
Well, when you make your next block quester trade or
you get one of those contract extensions done, come on back.
You're always welcome John anytime. We appreciate you, buddy, Thanks
for being.
Speaker 10 (34:33):
Here, all right, boys, miss you, guys.
Speaker 11 (34:35):
The best Welcome Back to the Insiders, presented by Progressive Insurance.

performance by Carol g streaming for free live only on YouTube.
Head to the NFL's YouTube channel to learn more. Our
om Reese is already in South Powell. He caught up
with a special guest today.
Speaker 6 (35:03):
Thank you very much. Tarheb's still friend of the network.
Joining us here, tar Heeb.
Speaker 17 (35:08):
I know you've only been in Brazil for a day now,
but what's been the highlights so far of your trip?
Speaker 19 (35:13):
I think the best part we got off the plane,
went to the hotel. Then we had like a little
pool hydration in movement, so guys are like having fund
jumping in the pool Cannon Batland.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
It was pretty cool. Yeah.
Speaker 17 (35:23):
How much of this can be a team bonding experience
for you guys traveling this far?
Speaker 19 (35:26):
I think a lot of it. A lot of time
we're gonna be spent together in the hotel, so really
just hanging out each other, really getting to know each
other more, playing playing games, car games, being called, you know,
spend time.
Speaker 10 (35:37):
On each other.
Speaker 6 (35:37):
Yeah, how was the flight?
Speaker 15 (35:38):
Would you do in the flight?
Speaker 4 (35:39):
I think the flight was cool.
Speaker 19 (35:40):
I stayed up for the first three and a half
three and a half four hours, watch some film, talk
to my teammates, and then I got to sleep too.
It's crazy, so I slept and then I got woken
up by forty five minutes till landing, So that was perfect.
Speaker 6 (35:54):
Wow. You seem well rested here, definitely.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
No, wonder when you look at this.
Speaker 17 (35:58):
Environment, neutral setting, big powerhouse type of a game, You're
with your teammates, all kinds of international media. How much
can this be a preview of what a super Bowl
experience can be like?
Speaker 6 (36:10):
How much do you guys look at it like that.
Speaker 19 (36:12):
I'm not sure what a super Bowl looks like because
I haven't been in one of those, but I'm sure
it'd be similar, big stage, a lot of media, a
lot of hype around the game, a lot of fans excited,
So I'm thinking it'd be similar something like that.
Speaker 10 (36:26):
I don't know, we'll see some.
Speaker 17 (36:27):
Yeah, when you look at your opponent for Week one,
it's a familiar opponent, Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce,
Andy Reid, the rest of the crew. What are you
anticipating to see from them, any new wrinkles or just
kind of focusing on what you've seen from them in
the past.
Speaker 19 (36:43):
Well, they can really go out there and do anything.
But you know the coach, they have the offensive minds,
they can come out there and do a lot. So
I really just got to be prepared for a lot
of stuff, a lot of different things that they can
show us, a lot of different pictures. But really, ultimately,
I think this is going to come down to us
lining up playing football, doing our But like you said,
it can show us a lot of different things, so
we've got to really be ready for react, talk, communicate,
(37:05):
stuff like that.
Speaker 6 (37:06):
What do you want to show the world what Chargers
football is?
Speaker 2 (37:09):
What is that going to be?
Speaker 19 (37:10):
I think I'm really excited personally just to show kind
of brand we play tough, physical, relentless for quarter football.
I think a lot of people are gonna like that,
so I think it'd be a great show on Friday.
People are gonna be tuned in and join the show
with tough, physical, full quarter football.
Speaker 6 (37:26):
Yeah, we can't wait, Tarty.
Speaker 17 (37:28):
Thank you Mary very much for your time and look
forward to seeing you on Friday night.
Speaker 19 (37:30):
Yes, sir, thank you.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Sit back to you guys.
Speaker 11 (37:35):
Well, Brazil gets one of the great divisional matchups on
the slate this weekend. And here's another one, Bucks Falcons
they face off in Week one, a game that could
certainly well decide the NFC South when we get to
that point in late December. There are eight Week one
division games. I love how they did this this year.
(37:55):
Of course, Cowboys Eagles kicks the entire season off tomorrow,
Chiefs Chargers on Friday, and look at all those games
on Sunday and even on Monday to wrap up the
first weekend of the season of Vikings Bears. To discuss it,
let's bring back our guys, Steve Reisch and Bucky Brooks.
All right, Steve, you and I both know this. The
Falcons beat the Bucks twice last season and still did
(38:18):
not win the Division.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
The Bucks won the division.
Speaker 11 (38:21):
What kind of significance do these two teams playing in
Week one have.
Speaker 13 (38:25):
Oh well, Judy kirk Cousins is not walking through that door.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
Remember he was the quarterback with both of.
Speaker 6 (38:30):
Those victories, and he threw eight touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
He gashed the Buccaneers.
Speaker 13 (38:33):
But now it's the Michael Pennocks era and that's what
the Falcons are hope changes. You know, offensively, Pennis we
started three games last year, but this is assence, is
his rookie season, and that's the bigger issue.
Speaker 10 (38:45):
We know, the.
Speaker 6 (38:45):
Penis in this offense a lot of talent.
Speaker 10 (38:47):
They've got a.
Speaker 13 (38:47):
Lot of big things that they're hoping to get out
of Drake London and Vijon Robinson and all those players.
But the issue is more so on defense because, like
you mentioned, the Falcons beat the Buccaneers twice, they only
won six other games last year because their defense was
so leaky.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
And that's where they have a lot of young players.
Speaker 13 (39:04):
They've got the two defensive ends that they got in
the draft, right Jalen Walker and James Pierce. They have
two rookie defensive backs that also will be starting. So
that's where they've got a lot of things to fix,
and even if they beat the Buccaneers, this is something
they've got to continue throughout the season if they want
to knock the Kings of the NFC South off the
(39:25):
mountain top.
Speaker 11 (39:27):
All right, Becky, yet another divisional matchup Packers Lions and
have seen North.
Speaker 3 (39:32):
What are you going to be watching for in that game?
Speaker 14 (39:36):
Look, I'm looking to see if Michael Parsons is going
to show up and play for the green Bay Packers.
When I think about the Packers and where the Packers
want to be, and they want to live up to
their Moniker title town and so the move to bring
Michael Parsons over brings them one step closer to accomplishing
that goal. I have seen a lot of great players
come through Green Bay, but Michael Parsons has an opportunity
(39:56):
to be the next legendary.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Player to wear the Green and gol.
Speaker 14 (40:00):
To see how Jeff Hafley's going to utilize him, how
they're going to rush him off the edge, what kind
of chaos and havoc he can wreak, and then will
the secondary benefit from the increased pressure.
Speaker 4 (40:11):
This is a team that was.
Speaker 14 (40:11):
At the top of the charte when it comes to turnovers.
Tips and overthrows are derived from pressure. Can Michael Parsons
number one create more pressure and more turnover opportunities for
a seaball gearball defense that lives to take the ball away.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
I cannot wait to watch that game.
Speaker 11 (40:28):
I think there's going to be a lot of eyeballs
on the Green Bay Packers this weekend. Bucky Steeve, thank
you very much. The NFL is back finally.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
With four days of football.
Speaker 11 (40:38):
The twenty twenty five season starts on September fourth. That's

there's a podcast and YouTube show Thursdays. You can see
us on the NFL Fast Channel as well as YouTube

there's always news. A couple of late injury reports coming
in today. First off, the Rams do not list Matthew
Stafford on their injury report, missed a good chunk of
(41:41):
training camp because of a back issue.
Speaker 8 (41:43):
Not on the report.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
That means he's on track to start Sunday against Houston.
Stefan Digg's not on the Patriots injury report. He too,
set to make his debut for New England Sunday against
the Raiders. Ian Are you actually gonna watch football tomorrow?
Speaker 7 (41:59):
I'm going to a bar, I'm gonna eat wings, I'm
gonna watch.
Speaker 8 (42:02):
It's gonna be awesome. That's not watching, not the way
that we need to.
Speaker 1 (42:07):
All right, No, till the next few days Monday Podcast, Tuesday,
We're on the network. See it
