Speaker 1 (00:08):
Why end one hold in when you can end two
in a single day. Terry McLaurin, Trey Hendrickson, come on down,
You've got new deals and oh yeah, football games to
play in less than two weeks. We will tell you
how these new deals went down. The cutdown deadline, meanwhile,
is fast approaching. We've already had some notable names hitting
the open market. We will tell you who's already out

(00:32):
and who could be next looking for work by four
pm Eastern time tomorrow. We will also look ahead to
week one, just like Tom Brady, who is going to
be calling one game with Kevin Burkhardt while Brady's old
team faces his current team playing in a different game.
He's got a lot going on and guess what. So
do we welcome inside with the insiders alongside Mike Garafalo,

(00:57):
I am Tom Pelisserro. We are in the final countdown.
Now ten days until the kickoff game to the twenty
twenty five NFL season, just about twenty one hours from
cut down deadline. Across the NFL. This is the time
of year when a lot of deals get done, and boy,
did we have some action today. Let's start out in Washington,

(01:18):
where early this morning, the commanders and wide receiver Terry
McLaurin agreed on a three year contract extension that could
be worth upwards of ninety six million dollars with incentives,
McLaurin getting a thirty million dollars signing bonus as part
of the Steel Mike. We know McLaurin ultimately wanted to
be paid for the production he's had to this point

(01:38):
in his career, regardless of his age. After a long
and winding road, the sides were able to come together.
How did it happen?

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah, you say regardless of his age. I mean that
was his stance. That was his camp stance. Washington obviously saying, well,
we've got to look at it for the long term
part of this deal.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
So we still haven't seen the full details.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
You do the math there and you say, okay, the
north side of thirty million dollars per season time you
talked about a thirty million dollars signing bonus, which would
be a year one payment along with a small base salary.
That's how these things are structured. So just over thirty
million on the base value in year one usually then
it dips down in year two. So without seeing the
full numbers, I can tell you you're looking at probably

(02:19):
just south of thirty million dollars. Really good money for
Terry McLaren, who's going to pretty much probably double his
career earnings via the first two years of this deal.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
That's a good deal.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
That's really good for Terry McLaren.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
And look, it's really good that Washington finally got this
done to get him back on the field within the
last week or so. Now get him fully back, get
him feeling good, and get those eyes pointed forward to
that Week one matchup against the Giants.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
We know what McLaren means, not just to the offense, but.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
To that locker room, and he's had to sort of
act a certain way. I mean, he's kept a professional,
but he's been disappointed and you could see he wanted
to be out there. So now you put all that aside,
you get back on the field, you get back to
good vibes.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
That's the best part this deal for Washington and for mclark.
Terry McLaurin has played with eleven different starting quarterbacks. This
will be the first year him and j Dale, the
first time he's had the same starting quarterback in two
consecutive years. Oh Yeah, He's also played for teams with
three different names in Washington. He's been with multiple different owners,
all kinds of head coaches and play callers, some consistency.

(03:20):
This was always the outcome that everybody wanted. Sometimes everybody
yelling pay the man misses the point, which is they
did want to pay him, They just wanted to pay
him closer to their number. We'll see what the final
details on the contract end up being end result. Terry
mcclaur now is already ramping up after coming off the
physically and able to Perform list about a week ago.
We'll be ready to rock come week one. Guess who

(03:42):
else will be. Trey Hendrickson also has a new deal
with the Cincinnati Bengals. Within the past hour or so. Here,
the team ann Hendrickson agreeing to terms on a deal
that gives him a fourteen million dollar raise this year.
Mean Hendrickson now will make thirty million dollars in twenty
twenty five and have the opportunity to hit the free

(04:03):
agent market come March. They talked about a lot of
different scenarios here. As you see the Bengals confirming that
they have agreed to that revised contract. They talked about
multi year extensions, they talked about a one year extension.
But Mike, this always made sense. If the Bengals were
not going to give Trey Hendrickson any guarantees beyond twenty
twenty five, which effectively renders it a one year deal,

(04:25):
why not just do an actual one year deal something
the Vikings did a couple of years ago with Danil Hunter.
Pay him into that neighborhood of where the rating NFL
sack champ should be paid. And now Hendrickson, who's been
in the building, can actually put on his uniform out
there on the field. Why did this take so long?

Speaker 2 (04:44):
It's just like, I mean, even the McLaren one, but
that's a little more complicated. But like this, Tom, you
and I could have done this in June, right, just
knocked it out nowhere about anything going to the training camp. Well,
they finally got there and there's time for Hendrickson to
get back on the field and get back to work
ahead of week one. So this does make the most
sense for all folks involved. The Bengals were not willing

(05:07):
to put the guarantees beyond this year, like they could
have had a salary of ninety million dollars in twenty
twenty six. But if it's not guaranteed, what's the difference?
Who cares? So you might as well, like you said,
just take it completely off the table and just let
him become a free agent. And look, he's been productive,
he's been reliable. If he does it again, then he'll

(05:28):
be a guy that will.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Be prized in free agency.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
And I mean, at this point, you gotta think it's
not gonna be in Cincinnati.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
But you can't even close that door as well.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
You got to see how this season plays out and
how things look for him and the Bengals as we
get to that point. But I'll tell you why this
Bengals defense a little rough at times in the preseason.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Getting this guy back out there and making sure he's
locked in and ready to go enormous. The other factor
you ask why didn't this guilt deal gets done sooner, Mike,
part of it was because Trey Henderson said himself back
in May, I want a multi year commitment. I don't
want to keep going year to year. I want to
know that they want me, and I want to be
in one place. And obviously, even during everything that was

(06:07):
going on, he continued to where the Bengals colors on
the sideline continued to give Shamar Stewart pointers, but at
some point in the past few days, he became very
apparent that there was no way the Bengals were going
to move on the multi year guarantee. That's where then
Trey Hendrickson effectively reconsidered his position, ended up getting significant
amount of a race to stay in Cincinnati, and they

(06:29):
got a big one coming up Week one against the
Cleveland Browns. The Cowboys have a big one even sooner
than that ten days away, and his Cowboys and Eagles
in the twenty twenty five NFL kickoff game. And at
this point, well, we're still wondering, there's mega Parson's going
to show up with nachos? Is he going to be
on the training table? What is he going to be doing,
because to this point he hasn't actually done football. His

(06:54):
mother did see Jerry Jones before the preseason finale, the
two of them at least to still be on okay terms. Yeah, now, Michael,
weren't you have to playing.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
Talk?

Speaker 1 (07:15):
You go some money, all right? So no hard feelings.
Apparently for Missus Parsons, you know, it's one way or another.
Mike is going to be a very rich man at
some point. We welcome in our Jane Slater. Now to
the conversation. Jane. There's just a lot to unpack. And

(07:36):
somehow this gets weirder by the day in your mind
based on the people that you've talked to around that team,
Where do we actually stand.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
We're so conditioned around here that my baseline is weird.

Speaker 5 (07:49):
So this has not phased me. I'm unmoved.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Ceedee Lamb got his still done August twenty seventh, which
is what I love to remind folks, and then Dak
Prescott got his done.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
I think it was September six.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
We still have time er vokes And when you see Jerry,
they're talking with Micah's mom Michael, as he likes to
call him in various interviews.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
This is all part of the theater, guys. But did
my due diligence. I checked multiple sides this morning.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
Sounds like both sides are remaining in their respective corners.
Micah Parsons was not available for the media portion of
practice today, but it's my understanding he was at the facility.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
He also got an MRI this weekend.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
Remember he's been dealing with as he describes it, some
back tightness. The MRI showed that he was clean. So
right now we're just sitting here, we're waiting. I think
there's some good news that came back about Trayvon Diggs.
He looks like he's inching closer and closer to go.
Whether he'll be Ald Bimbles Philadelphia will still need a
couple more practices. But I bring that up to say,

(08:50):
I can't imagine that Mike is not going to want
to be out there on the field with his best
friend and teammate Trayvon Diggs. I can't imagine that he'll
want to go into the season game checks, or for
that matter, go out there and play without some security.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
And I've got to think that Jerry.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
Jones ultimately wants to move on from this at some point.
It's gotten its media publicity tour. We've talked about an
ad nauseum. I know there was a conversation too with
Micah for being on that training table not in a
jersey watching the game.

Speaker 5 (09:22):
Upside down.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
You know, it's a very big screen they're at at
and T Stadium. It's sort of the things like that, though,
guys that are frustrating internally in the building, and so
this didn't help Mike's case. I know it was very brief,
but it's just it's those little things that just aren't
helping the cause here. But I'm still staying polish on
this guys.

Speaker 5 (09:43):
I still think this thing's going to get done well.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Yeah, Dane, you know, to the very bitter end.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
By the way, Jane, I am listening, Ian Rappaport, while
he's not on the program, is having an impact here.
He is this machine gun texting us right now.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
That's what I'm looking at. Wi Fi. The airplane just
came back. We are now getting five of every one
of the texts that he sent us for the past hour.
And it's great. That's why we're I'm not listening to you, Jane,
it's that he won't. She's still going. He's still going.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
Shine ever, that's half.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
My problem would have No, we got you, Jane. We're
going to keep this conversation on Michaeh Parsons going. And
you talk about your baseline. I have no idea how
you cover this team as much as you do, Jane.
But you know what, that's a job security for you
with Michaeh Parsons I mean, all those things you laid
out right, and I know.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
I know they're on his mind.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Not missing a game, check, being out there for his guys,
especially after the other night when he was accused of
not being there for his guys, which is not the case,
by the way, and just being competitive and playing against
the defending champion division rivals on opening night in your
home state.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
All this stuff.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
I know it's a factor. I know it's at play.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
And then there's also that other side of him that
is like, no, this is not how the communication hasn't
been there to hold him to have the communication with
my agent.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
They haven't done that. I know he's disappointed about that stuff.
It's like it's gonna be which way is the scale.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Gonna tilt on this one for Micah Parsons. I, you know,
I'd call it a toss up Jane if there's not
a deal done by week one, Although if he does
come back, maybe that's the good will to get this
thing going and that'll be the victory for Jerry to say, Okay,
we can start this one going.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
He still text us, I don't know what we accomplished,
hut this segment. Yeah, go ahead, Jane.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Well, I was just gonna say.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
The thing that continues to stand out to be when
people reach out to is this is just extreme Kubris
on display on both sides. I don't think Jerry has
ever had a player besides maybe Dion, that had the
sort of moxie and ego that we've seen from Micah Parsons.
I will say this about Micah. Michael will say things

(11:49):
and stand behind them. He is almost a throwback player
in that respect. I mean, going back to his rookie year.
I would see some of his tweets, I'd say, hey,
you might want to think about that, and he would
stand on business.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
So he is.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
I appreciate the fact that he's not into the group.
Think he is a different bird. So I fully acknowledge
that this could go differently than what.

Speaker 5 (12:09):
We see in the past.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
But I think deep down there's probably an element here
that Jerry Jones respects the metal on. This guy a gambler,
so to speak, like.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
Jerry himself.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
From now on, want James graphic on the bottom screw
when she comes on to say, Jane Slater, my baseline
is weird. Jane, thank you very much. I'm sure we'll
be talking with you much more about this. Speaking of
the Cowboys, a former Cowboy is back home with another
one of his former teams. Amari Cooper last year got
traded from the Browns of the Bills at the deadline.
Previously played in Dallas, starting his career with the Raiders. Well,

(12:43):
guess what. Las Vegas has some receiver issues going on,
Jacoby Myers requesting a trade. More on that a little
bit later on in the show, and they're bringing back
an old friend, Amari Cooper in a wide receiver room
that beyond Jacoby Myers has a rookie and Jack Besh
and a bunch of guys I'm guessing most people at
home can't name. Right now, get a familiar face of

(13:04):
very experienced receiver in Amari Cooper.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Mike to the Texans, we go Joe Mixon. He will
be placed on the reserve non football injury list. He
had been on NFI. Now, what does that mean. That
means he's going to miss at least the first four
weeks of the season. He will be ineligible for that
part of the season with a foot injury that has
kept him out all camp.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Our Ian Rappaport had reported a while.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Ago that he'd be reevaluated closer to the regular season.
Here we are at the point where the Texans are
gonna have to make a decision on his roster spot.
So this will free up a roster spot while they
give him a chance to keep working through that foot
issue that he's had going on. He's gone to see
some specialists and some other folks to see if he
can get back on the right track there.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
So he's going to continue to do that. Will we
see Joe Mixon this year?

Speaker 2 (13:48):
That's TBD, but I know that he's working as hard
as he possibly can town to get back.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Lamar Jacksons own scare with his foot ended up not
being a big deal. Several days after Jackson he got
stepped on in practice, he missed the next day's session.
He is indeed back onto the field, returning to practice
earlier today. Quoting your quach John Harbaugh, he looked good
on the field, which is good news if you hold
your breath every time a multiple time NFL MVP comes

(14:17):
up lipping just a little bit. So much more to
come here on the Insiders, including a look ahead to
Tuesday's cutdown deadline. We know shallow Sanders already swung his
way out of Tampa. Who else could be looking for
a new job. We'll tell you right after this on
the inside. Some notable cuts today during the final countdown

(14:44):
to the four pm Eastern time deadline on Tuesday. Henon Hooker,
former high draft pick of the Detroit Lions, beat up
for the number two job by Kyle Allen. He is
out in Detroit hill head to waivers, cam Akers, veteran
running back cut by the Saint Slyile Hollins, and of
course Desmond Watson, Shiloh Sanders, among many others. Over one

(15:05):
thousand players, one way or another will either end up
on a list, or end up on waivers or released
by the end of tomorrow time. Now to cut to
the chase, as we bring in our Steve Whitch along
with Mike Garatfullo and me Tom Pelicero. There are always
some surprise cuts right at the end here, Steve, give
me a name that you're looking for that could end

(15:26):
up on the street tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (15:27):
Tom It's really weird, you guys know this.

Speaker 7 (15:28):
We're not hearing a lot of potential salary cap casualty guys,
or potential surprise cuts. You know, maybe Cole Strange, the
interior lineman for the New England Patriots. That's a name
you could hear. It was a high draft pick. But
I want to look at these quarterbacks. I think this
could be a lot of quarterbacks shuffling. We saw it
start yesterday in Minnesota, Carson Wentz getting signed there and
then moving off Hendon Hooker being released by the Lines.

(15:52):
No surprise with the way that he performed, but that's
a player that some team could pick up and try
to redevelop. It's just an interesting situations first time in
years where we're not hearing a lot about potential salary
cap cuts or expendable veterans like we typically hear.

Speaker 6 (16:08):
So I wouldn't say, you know, we're normally.

Speaker 7 (16:11):
At this point like there's a big surprise because maybe
there is going to be a shake up. But I
think we're looking at more trades, the potential cuts that
could really stir things up.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
Yeah, we've got some guys that could potentially be traded
or some guys who could be released if they can't
find a trade partner. I am here in the Giants facility.
I'm looking at Tommy DeVito tomorrow. They've got four quarterbacks
right now with Jamis Winston, whom assistant general manager Brandon
Brown last week indicated that he is staying with the

(16:41):
Giants despite interest from teams elsewhere. So now that goes
to DeVito. Now you got the Brown saying that they
were going to keep four quarterbacks. The Giants are sort
of in the same boat. But that makes it so
tough elsewhere on the roster. So do you want to
keep DeVito, hang on to him in case maybe you've
got to need internally or somebody else does in the
near future, and then maybe you could unload him, or

(17:02):
could you potentially say, well, we can't find a trade partner,
We're now gonna let him go. That's the one that
I'm looking for, because look, Tommy DeVito was not a
guy that was highly touted coming into the draft process,
but he played tough, He won games for the Giants,
He hung in there, he played well this preseason. He
was a great part of that quarterback room as well.

(17:23):
There will be interested There will be interest in Tommy
DeVito elsewhere, whether it's via trade or if the Giants
dude decide to let him go.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
All right, stick around, fellows. A lot more to come
here on the Insiders.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
New today in the NFL Network and the insiders and
plenty of it was new. Tom Pelisero and Steve Weis
joining me Mike Garrolfolo as we break down the first
of the two big items to August twenty fifth, twenty
twenty five, the day two hold ins ended Trey Hendrickson
the big one with the Bengals and Hendrickson talking about
a potential multi year deal. In the end, they decide

(18:01):
to shave off any years coming up and just make
it a one year deal. So Hendrickson gets thirty million
dollars on this deal, as tomminy And reported earlier, and
is set to be a free.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Agent after this upcoming season.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Steve, like I said to Tom earlier in the show,
we probably could have gotten here a lot sooner. But
the fact that there's still time before the start of
the regular season, the Bengals of Hendrickson happy to be here.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
Yeah, it's amazing what going into.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Week one will do in the day before you have
to get to your.

Speaker 6 (18:28):
Fifty three man roster will do to get deals done.

Speaker 7 (18:31):
But the fact that this was a one year deal.
I heard you guys talking earlier. This is something that
could have been done months ago. They could have worked
their salary cap in ways to freed up space to
maybe get deals with other players or things in but this.

Speaker 6 (18:43):
Is what it is.

Speaker 7 (18:44):
They get to retain the best, one of the best
edge rushers in the NFL for a team that sorely
needs to upgrade his defense to match its offense. Now,
maybe the Beagles Bengals won't be as discounted from that
AFC North playoff picture as they were without him being signed.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
A vision that the Bengals have for this defense Al
Golden taken over as the defensive coordinator, but a big
piece of that was having Trey Hendrickson in place. One
of those rare pass rushers is going to be able
to create a rush in some of the hardest situations
that you have through the course of the game. Here,
they really are excited about the youth and the speed
that they've got on the back end. Some guys who've

(19:22):
been hurt in recent years DJ Turner, DJ av those
guys are healthy again. So there's some reason to buy
the upside on Cincinnati, particularly a first round pick Samar
Stewart can continue to develop. But let's be honest, if
you didn't get Trey Hendrickson back, if he ended up
holding now or your trade or whatever, it was gonna
be really hard to replace that production. Mike. They erased
that chance today agreeing to the new one year deal.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Yeah, that was the point he was making, was my
production is about as good as it gets elsewhere in
the NFL. So when they're talking about a deal, I
know they didn't want to break with how they were doing.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
Things with guaranteed money in the future.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
He said, why can't I do it just like he
did for those other guys Terry McLaurin. Yes, ninety six
million dollars maximum value, ninety six million dollar maximum value.
We're gonna wait and see the full deal here, but
that thirty million dollars signing bonus tells you he gets
over thirty million for the first year of this deal.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
So another holdend is done.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
And also, you know, another trade request, right, like another
I want to that doesn't even mean a trade request anymore, Steve,
It's just part of the negotiating process, just like the holding.

Speaker 7 (20:26):
Well, look, I think the big win that hit the
sale was last week in Offense, according to Cliff Kingsbury,
was like, you know what, it's time to get this done,
let's stop playing around if we want to be a
good football team.

Speaker 6 (20:35):
That maybe helped push things along.

Speaker 7 (20:36):
As if for McLaurin getting this deal done up to
there that thirty two million dollar average at thirty million dollars,
that signing bonus that he gets to go on again,
We'll see the structure, see how much new money or
old money or any change money actually happens right here.
But now Washington can get its offense together. And I'm
real eager to see how Kingsbury changes this offense with
the dynamic piece Perry McLaurin with Deebo Samuel. So this

(20:59):
is a different piece of they have this why this
offense could look different. But this offense was not going
to be what it was last year if it didn't
have McLaurin.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
You certainly could hear, if not frustration, then certainly some
level of concern from Cliff Kingsbury when he spoke saying, hey,
we haven't not our top two guys out there because
Noah Brown's been out since the spring basically because of
a knee injury. They do have debo there. This will
be the first time they're really going to look at
the full compliments of what they're going to have on
offense in twenty twenty five. So, based on how twenty
twenty four went, should be an interesting year in Washington.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Cliff Kingsbury going to be back in that head coaching
cycle after this upcoming season.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
Here.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
That was some head coachy type stuff that he did
there during his press conference, Steve, like you mentioned nudging
Terry McLaurin to get back on the field, So that'll
be noted by those that are just didn't talking to
Cliff about head coaching jobs to come, Thomas Steve, thank you.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
Joe Milton, where are you at?

Speaker 2 (21:52):
Where's this touchdown that I'm hearing about that we're going
to show there?

Speaker 1 (21:55):
It is Joe Milton up top touchdown passing one rushing.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
In the thirty one third team win over the Atlanta
Falcons and the Cowboys preseason finale. There, So a good
showing from Joe Milton. Jane Slater back with us because Janie,
we want to talk about what stood out to you
in the Cowboys preseason finale other than Micah Parsons laying
on the table for long enough that people think that
he was just napping the whole time.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
Yeah, Mike, you I kind of want to start this
by accentuating the positive, shall we. I know, the biggest
concern for a lot of Cowboy fans was this backup quarterback.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
Competition or lack thereof.

Speaker 4 (22:32):
In other words, we didn't see Dak Prescott at all
during the preseason. Again, not that out of the ordinary,
but we sure saw a lot of Joe Milton. And
in those first two preseason games, not a lot to
get excited about.

Speaker 5 (22:44):
But here we are on Friday.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
They got on the board first and it was really
the balance that stood out. More importantly, Dallas went over
one hundred yards in the ground, something that was hard
to come by last year, something that we talked about
last week. Joe Milton showcased exactly why this coaching style
is so intrigued. He's got dual threat ability. He not
only extended some of the players of his legs, but
he also kept the offense on schedule in a way

(23:07):
we just didn't consistently see in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
Now.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Seedeelamb called it a rhythm we can build on, and
that kind of balance is critical for an offense that
struggled to sustain drives last season. And you know when
you listen to Dak Prescott talking today. He said, we
didn't see what this offense really is going to be.
They kept it very vanilla. He said, this offense is
not going to be vanilla. And the good news is
we know that Dak Prescott is going to be returning

(23:32):
under center. But just a little bit there to make
you feel a little bit better about what you have
behind him. Since Cooper Rush went on to the Baltimore
Ravens this offseason.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
Yes, now to the other side of the ball, should
be feeling a little bit worse because this Cowboys run
defense got to go up against an Eagles team that
I know is a change in offensive coordinator, but they
still are going to want to run the football with
Sakuon Barkley.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
Added AJ Dillon as well.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
How concerned should the Cowboys be about the run d
against Eagles?

Speaker 5 (24:00):
Well, I'm not going to sugarcoat it.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
I think they've got to be concerned, especially when I
went back and looked at Week seventeen versus Philadelphia, glaring
one hundred and seventy nine yards on the ground allowed
on forty two carries over four yards of pop plus
a touchdown, and as you reference, they've got aj Dillon.
They have got Saquon Barkley, and this is just an
area they weren't consistent in last year. I mean, when

(24:22):
you look at Philly, you've got Saquon Barkley's explosive this,
You've got Aj Dillon's power, You've got the rookie will
Shipley who's got misdirection forcing that discipline across all eleven defenders.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
Now, new defensive.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
Coordinator rather Matt Eberflu said, regardless of who is lining
up next Thursday night, the focus is improving run fits
and creating turnovers. And they've shown that they went heavy
this offseason making sure they really bolstered what they've got there.

Speaker 5 (24:47):
They certainly have. You know, Donovan.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
Ezeraku, the rookie easy as they like to call him.
He's been really, really strong. You've got Sam Williams back
that's going to help you out. So I tend to
think they've got guys there without Micah Parsons. But I
think the problem as we looked at Michah Parsons. Micah
Parsons has lined up pretty much everywhere on that offensive
I mean, on that defensive side of the ball, except

(25:09):
for quarterback.

Speaker 5 (25:10):
We've seen him at safety.

Speaker 4 (25:11):
We've seen him obviously on the edge, they've used him
at linebacker.

Speaker 5 (25:15):
He's been a chess piece.

Speaker 4 (25:16):
I just think it hurts you create from a creative
standpoint if you don't have Micah Parsons out there. Are
they equipped at least to go up against teams right now?

Speaker 6 (25:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (25:27):
But Week one against Saquon Barkley, that's a bigger tests.
So that's an area of concern that I think a
lot of people have.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
The Eagles still have some time before they get into
their game week preparation, but my understanding is, as of
right now, they're going to prepare as if Michaeh Parsons
is playing, and I gotta be caught by what Michah
Parsons is playing. Now, they'd rather be caught by surprise,
by pleasant surprise the other way.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Thank you, Jane Slater, Tom. The Rams have built a
reputation for doing preseason prep their own way, from Sean
mcvay's focus on rest of recovery to holding this year's
mini Camp Maui. They're always pushing new ideas to gain
an edge, and now, for the second year in a row,
the Rams are taking it even further, outfitting their players
coaches and staff with one hundred and fifty sleep number

(26:10):
beds at training camp. In this episode of Gaining Greatness
presented by Sleep Number, we take you inside how the
rams turn recovery into a competitive advantage.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
When you go on a load to bed and this
we'll provide you with a room number where that needs
to go three will, two A and.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Two O four s.

Speaker 8 (26:31):
Sleep number in this relationship has been awesome. Number one
LMU with Sleep Numbers installment teams them be on to
get that product in there so we know these guys
are gonna have a quality environment to get some sleep.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
It's awesome.

Speaker 8 (26:42):
At the end of the day, it goes back to
it's our number one recovery strategy. The focus on that
is real and you can see that investment in that
and by the logistics and everything we do to make
sure that can be provided for them. So for us
to be at even stay consistent with something that they
might even have at their house in terms of a
sleep number bed, that's very valuable to help them to
get some good, quietly good night.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
This is the living quarters for camp. They even blessed
us with king size sleep number beds, the same.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
Type of bed that I use at home.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
This is what allows me if you're saying, go lady
and not be soon. And now it's time to kick
the feet up.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
Man, it's time to go to sleep, and it's time
to really.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
Use his seat them afford it's for.

Speaker 6 (27:19):

Let's just speed down.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Harry Collins.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Harry Goes.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
Says that the number two track Steam takes its preseason
in the books, but it's never too late to take
a look back. Mike, what was your biggest storyline coming
out of the twenty twenty five Preseas?

Speaker 2 (28:16):
To me, it's the Miami Dolphins. I mean there are
from day one with two tongue of Iiloa showing up
at camp and saying that Tyreek Hill has to earn
his way back into the good graces if everything that
he had done and.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Said late last season to the Lions, saying.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
They don't practice like us and we're gonna take it
to them, and then they did in the joint practices.
I mean, I've never seen a team that is projected
to be around five hundred, like all these win projections
we always put up on the screen.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
It's like Dolphins eight and a half.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Yet so many people are predicting so much doom for
this Buzzards are flying around.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
This team right now.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
And look, I think a part of it is that,
to a tongue of I, Loo has had trouble in
the past staying on the field, So everyone's like, oh,
that's gonna happen again. And there's not a lot of death,
and then there's drama and they're gonna trade Tyreek a
at the deadline. All that stuff may come true or
it may not, and this team might be around five hundred.
I'm fascinated because a lot of times you can peg

(29:10):
a team within like two or three wins the Dolphins,
that to me is like a ten win spread.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
I don't know which way this.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
Is going to go.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
If something were to happen to two, it sounds like
they are going to keep three quarterbacks on the roster,
So Zach Wilson as well as Quinn yours the other
possibilities there, Steve, your biggest preseason storyline.

Speaker 7 (29:30):
I wasn't to go with the New England Patriots because
they seem like they're head in the right direction. But guys,
Jackson Dart with the Giants led a team to a
three to noh the only NFC team to win all
three preseason games.

Speaker 6 (29:42):
Of course, Noonovic, none of what you will matter. But
this team, when you start looking and examining them, you
see all the.

Speaker 7 (29:48):
Studs they have on defense led by Dexter Lawrence, then
more and more of the pieces that they have. If
they can get through the first few games of this
brutal schedule that they have, may be so of the
confidence and that belief and that hope that they have
in themselves can translate to wins. We don't know, right
the Giants or the team in the NFC East. We're

(30:08):
kind of like, ah, that schedule, everything else is brutal,
But they showed some signs in the preseason of maybe
being a little bit more buttoned up. Again, the preseason
you can't put a ton of stock into it, but
with in terms of roster and the way that they
actually functioned, maybe they could be a team that surprises
us and maybe they won't have that ten point win
lost wing that Miami that Mike was talking about with

(30:30):
the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
You know, on paper, the Giants would be better. What
I didn't estimate was they would be like the Vib's team.
Like when you watch them and you saw the quarterbacks
all getting along and eating w's together and everybody leaving
the charge out there on the sideline. It seems like,
at minimum there's an emotional element there that was probably
lacking when you're losing as many games as the Giants
have over the past couple of years. We'll see now

(30:54):
how it exactly it translates into the regular season. Stick around, guys,
a lot more to come here on the inn and
you know what else, The NFL is back with four
days of football. The twenty twenty five season starts on
September fourth, with NFL Kickoff presented by YouTube TV. Catch
Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys take on Jalen Hurts
and the Ragning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Then get

(31:16):
ready for a weekend fully your favorite teams, NFL Kickoff
presented by YouTube Tv September fourth, seven pm Eastern on
NBC Go. Watch NFL dot com for the full schedule.
Just thirteen days away from the Dolphins regular season opener
at Indianapolis against the Colts. Coming off in the preseason,

(31:37):
that was a mixed bag, though it did produce some
highlights like this Welcome back to the Insiders, Tom Pilaicero,
joined now from South Florida by our Cameron Wolf. Can
we look back to the three preseason games, the joint practices.
What's your biggest takeaway on the Dolphins out of the preseason.

Speaker 9 (31:54):
That there's still a mixed bag the Dolphins are And
really let's start with the big question mark about the
Dolphins team. Are they physical enough? Are they tough enough?
Are they discipline enough? That was the big question mark
all off season, and I've talked to players who have
got frustrated by that narrative talking about we're going to
show people, Well, what we saw out there on the
field is a mixed bag of some of those physicality

(32:16):
issues still coming up. You mentioned the joint practice and
preseason against the Lions and Bears. They were humbled at times,
but then I watched them here against Jacksonville punched back
and they were the more physical team. Which version of
the Dolphins are we going to see? The positive route
for the Dolphins is going to be on their pass rush.
When you watch them against that preseason finale, you saw

(32:36):
Chop Robinson and Bradley Chubb and Jalen Phillips, and you
think about the potential within that Anthony Weaver scheme. He
had plays where he had all three edge rushers on
the field at the same time, Jalen Phillips coming off
the edge from the slot receiver, and it is tantalizing.

Speaker 6 (32:52):
You know.

Speaker 9 (32:52):
I talked to Trevor Lawrence after their joint practice and
he said, honestly, Anthony Weaver confused me all through.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Practice and is to dream about, Hey, this pass russ.

Speaker 9 (33:02):
Being one of the best in the league and maybe
helping their young secondary out. On the other side of
the field, we got a lot of issues with the
offensive line. It was troubling to see Tua get hit
as frequently as he did in the preseason finale, the
Dolphins played their starters three jives, the Jaguars were playing
their third team, and the Jags were still getting home,
they were still forcing three and outs, and so that

(33:23):
element was a concern in twenty twenty four, still is
a concern going against next year.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
All of their starters, accept.

Speaker 9 (33:29):
Their right tackle played, and their right tackle, Austin Jackson,
should be back for Week one, and so we talk
about Tyreek and Tua and all these other guys. We've
got to protect Tua. If you're the Dolphins, you made
six games last year, you've got to run the ball.
You need that offensive line to play better. And so
the trenches on the defensive side look good right now.
A big question on the offensive trenches.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
First big test Week one in that game against the Colts.
Two teams can that. I feel like no one externally,
at least nationally, really expects anything out. Maybe have a
chance to be better than what people are thinking right now.
Break down this matchup for me.

Speaker 9 (34:06):
Yeah, I'm really eager to see, first of all, which
guys of the Dolphins playmakers do we see out there
on the field. I know a lot of people drafting
in fantasy leagues Devon a Chan is a guy going
very high in drafts. He's coming into the season with
the calf injury. He hasn't practiced the last two weeks
and the Dolphins are hopeful he's back on the field
week one, but look, he's not at one hundred percent

(34:26):
right now, and calf injuries historically linger it's something that
we're going to have to watch his availability going into
next week. He is a huge part of this offense
all off season. I've talked to them about how do
you get that deep passing game back with Tua and
Tyreek and Jayla Wattle like we saw in twenty twenty three.

Speaker 3 (34:42):
The answer starts in this running game.

Speaker 9 (34:44):
They've got to have defenses trust that they can run
the ball against them, and they didn't have that last year.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
And that starts with Devon a Chan.

Speaker 9 (34:51):
Jalen Wright, the backup running back, he is going to
be out Week one with a leg injury. I watched
him in practice. He had a sleeve on his right
leg calf area, and he's we're going to miss some time.
They're going through their deliberation right now to see if
he's an injured reserve candidate, if he's a guy who's
just gonna miss a week and stay on the roster.
But right now, Ali Gordon the second is there only
fully healthy running back on the roster. And so the

(35:14):
unit that's going to unlock the rest of the team
right now is the one that's most under construction. And
so that's something I'm watching for the Dolphins side of
the ball. How is that run game? How are their
weapons health wise going into Week one? And Tyreek Hill's
dealing with obleik as well. He should be good to go.
But the best players on the Dolphins are ailing going
into the start of the season.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
I knew there was a reason in my fantasy draft
on Saturday that somebody had to take one of the
stickers and just write in Alli Gordon's name. That's a
pretty good reason when everybody else is banged up, potentially
some opportunity for him right out of the gate. Cam,
thank you very much. We look forward to chatting with
you again soon. On Friday, September fifth, Patrick Mahomes and
the Kanasaity Chiefs, thank on. Justin Herbert and the Los

(36:18):
one that involves well a couple of the teams associated
with that man. No, it doesn't involve the Buccaneers. You
probably can do the math. Youve got a couple of
minutes to do it. Right now. It's Dan Siders. More
news on a big newsday, this time out of Las

(36:40):
Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jacobe Myers. As Ian Rapport and
I reported this afternoon requested a trade. Recently, the team
informed Myers they do not intend to trade him. Myers
upset with his contract. There have been negotiations on and
off for several months. Right now only do a little
over ten million dollars in twenty twenty five, which is

(37:00):
well blow market value at this point for a guy
coming off a one thousand yard season. We'll see what
direction that goes, though certainly there could be interest in Myers.
Raiders also already adding a wide receiver today. It's an
old friend, Amari Cooper, headed to Las Vegas on a
one year deal Welcome back to the Insiders, Tom Pilicero,
Mike Garafalo, and Steve White. So let's look ahead here,

(37:22):
Steve to week one. It starts ten days from tonight.
What's your favorite Week one matchup? You're looking forward to.

Speaker 7 (37:28):
So many good games, but I got to go Bucks
and Falcons right Atlanta's feeling spicy right now, the Michael
Pennix era. They've got Jeon Robinson, you know, Pennis and
Drake London where they call it the nine to five
time has arrived in Atlanta. Well, they've beaten Tampa Bay
for the past five times.

Speaker 6 (37:46):
But as we know, the Falcons have won.

Speaker 7 (37:48):
The battles, but the Bucks have won the war as
the Buccaneers are the team that wins the division, the
Falcon the Falcons are still chasing.

Speaker 1 (37:58):
Mike.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
How about you Week one matchup you're looking forward to?
I got that Minnesota Chicago. It's in Minnesota, right am?
I recalling correct?

Speaker 1 (38:07):
Vikings go, it's at the Bears Monday night game. I'm
in the middle of the country. Why over as you
guys call it out that West coast.

Speaker 2 (38:13):
Yeah, that's what I think about you when I think
about it. Somewhere he's lived somewhere in the middle of
the country in Minnesota. But look, you got JJ McCarthy,
who didn't have a rookie season, playing his first real
game here, a regular season game. You got the Caleb
Williams two point zero reboot with Ben Johnson and everything
that the Bears have done and how exciting they were
in the preseason. I just love all the storylines coming

(38:36):
into this one. And I think, listen, I know everybody's
pretty much, you know, penciling in the Lions.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
I think this division is wide open.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
I can make a case for any of the four
teams to win this division. I think is gonna come
down to the wire, and who knows, we may look
back and say, boy at Vikings Bears result in Week
one sure wound up being huge.

Speaker 1 (38:55):
I can't wait for this game. I'm excited for it.
I'm gonna go with one that's a little bit off
the beaten path here, give me Raiders Patriots. Literally, I'm
going to be there in Foxborough for this game. It's
got tons and tons of storylines.

Speaker 9 (39:08):
Though.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
You got the former Patriots coach Pete Carroll who is
now the coach of the Raiders. You have Mike Vrabel
who a lot of people thought was going to be
the coach of the Raiders, who instead is now the
coach of the Patriots. You got the young quarterback in
Drake May against the older quarterback in Geno Smith. Two
teams that nationally there's probably not super high expectations for.

(39:30):
They both have really rocky roads within their own division.
Week one can be a liar. We know that from
last year. Remember the Patriots went into Cincinnati and beat
the Bengals and then didn't win another game for like
a couple of months. Here. A lot of times you
get people off guard. They don't entirely know schematically and
otherwise here. But you want to have a chance to
make a statement against another team that's kind of in

(39:51):
a similar spot to perhaps have a launching pad for
what you're going to become as a program. Here. That's
a big game. It's not a conference actually, it's not
a division game. It is a conference game. It's not
one that's going to maybe make or break somebody winning
that division. But just in terms of what's the stake,
just for the you know, people feeling good about the
direction things are going here, I'll take it. I'm talking

(40:12):
to myself and.

Speaker 6 (40:12):
You get Max Crossbeaks.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
You see Max Crosby, Tom He's the mass Rugby a
whole lot more. That's right, all right, stick around, guys.
We still got some more to come on this show.

of hold ins are over. Trey Hendrickson agreed to terms
on a revised contract with the Bengals, gets a fourteen
million dollar raise in twenty twenty five, now set to
earn thirty million with the Bengals, be ready to play
in Week one and then hit the free agent market

(40:59):
next March. Terry McLaurin will not be a free agent.
He agreed to terms on a three year extension. Can
be worth upwards of ninety six million inclinded thirty million dollars.
Signing Bonus Magic Johnson Limited, partner of the Washington Commanders,
just one of those who is certainly happy to have
Scary Terry back in the fold. Meanwhile, the Chiefs celebrated

(41:21):
the start of their season with what else a documentary
It's called The Kingdom. Preceding an exclusive screening of the
new ESPN original series The Kingdom, Kansas City ownership, coaches, players,
studio executives, and special guests walk the red carpet at
the Kaufman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City.
The Kingdom is just one of a handful of sports

(41:42):
documentaries that have recently hit streaming services, all of which
brings us to the most important question. Tom Pellisero, Mike Gerrifolo,
and Steve Whytch, I start with you, what is the
sports docu series you would love to see made here
in the rest of twenty twenty five and beyond.

Speaker 6 (41:59):
Well, By the way, The king is amazing. I'm five
episodes in.

Speaker 7 (42:01):
It's great. But how about the Commanders. The turnaround the
Commanders have made in one year. They have a little
hiccup this year they get it settled with Terry McClure
in the contract, but also Bobby Wagged in the middle
linebacker getting his master's degree at Howard University while he's
still playing.

Speaker 1 (42:19):
Mike.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
Yeah, we alluded to it earlier, just that Giants quarterback
room just just leave it there. I mean, you're gonna
may move Tommy DeVito, but it is not personality left.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
I love a docu series on Ian trying to text
