Speaker 1 (00:07):
The first full weekend of preseason games is right around
the corner. We've got to look at training camps across
the country over the next sixty minutes. In Carolina with
the Panthers in Lake Forest, Illinois, with Caleb Williams and
the Bears. We got the forty nine ers on the
field right now, the Cowboys and Rams in a joint
practice as well. Welcome inside with the insiders alongside Ian
(00:33):
Rapaport who is in Oxennar, California, and Mike Grifullo, who
is in Santa Clara where the forty nine ers are
on the field, I'm Tom Pelicero right here in Charlotte.
We will get a lot more live lookings at that
Cowboys Rams joint practice. You rarely get this on TV
live lookings. We got team drills. We're gonna have a
lot of fun. Jamee Slater bridge of content out there
(00:54):
with Ian as well. But let's start out with a
little bit of news Ian that came from one of
those teams, though not necessarily the name that fans might
have been waiting to hear.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
No, But if you're a Rams fan and you just
know the value of kyn Williams, their star running back.
Today is a very very good day. And you know
he took the field today to a ton of cheers,
a ton of congratulations from the people here, and they
certainly are in order for Karen Williams. He agrees to
a three year, thirty three million dollar contracts extension twenty
three million dollars guaranteed. He is now the seventh highest
(01:28):
paid running back in the NFL, and for him it
is really validation of everything he has tried to show,
which that he can be the bell cow in Sean
mcvay's offense that honestly has not always had one.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
He is the guy.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
He is, Karen the load. He has proved his durability
and sturdiness over the last couple of years and now
gets rewarded. He did not hold out, he did not
hold in. He showed up, he went to work and
now is a new thirty three million dollar contract extension
to show for it.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
I love me some Kyraen Williams coming out that people
think he could do that, right there, move a pile.
He showed yes he can and that Sean McVay and
the Rams love him and paid him for it. The
Bills would like to pay James Cook, and they have
had a lot of discussions, and I know, a hold
in all of a sudden in the middle of training
camp looks bad. But as Tom mentioned, besides, they're probably
a little bit closer than we think. And now after
Kyron Williams deal, that sort of helped set the number
(02:20):
for where Cook potentially should be. There was a sort
of unofficial mention before that like fifteen million dollars a
year is what he was looking for. Bills are saying
that that was a little too rich for our blood.
This is now more the number that they had in mind,
eleven million dollars per year. So that sort of helped
set the market, the secondary running back market. You got
Saquon and everybody else a little bit higher. But now
(02:40):
you've got a blueprint for where Cook should be. Perhaps
this will help this thing get across the finish line.
James Cook an important piece of what Buffalo wants to
do offensively. They'd like to get him under contract and
end the hold in.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Several hold ins across the NFL, including one with the Cowboys.
Of course, Micah Parsons again, we got well, we got
a siren going off right now, But I think that
is not actually a fire alarm. That is them testing
the pacist to at least I hope, So I'm planning
to stay news around the NFL. Jordan Addison, the Vikings
wide receiver, officially suspended three games for violating the substance
(03:15):
Abuse Policy. This a product of a no contest plead
to a lesser charge entered last month by Addison to
resolve a DUI charge. Addison is going to be out
those first three games ultiple to return for Week four,
which is the Vikings visit to Dublin to take on
the Steelers. Three games the baseline for a DUI suspension.
(03:36):
That's why Jordan Nasen will miss those three games, Mike.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Meanwhile, Anthony Richardson is the coach starting quarterback for the
first preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. I will be
covering that game. Yes, Richardson gets the ball first. In
the competition between him and Daniel Jones, he is expected
to play a little bit more than a quarter if
you remember their depth chart as one of those oars
Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones. So they're not tipping their
(04:00):
hands just yet. It is a competition that will carry
through the preseason, Jones is expected to be the starter,
according to head coach Shaneesteiken in the number two preseason game.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
So Richardson gets the.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
First chance to make an impression in a live game
this summer as he vised for that starting quarterback job.
Speaker 6 (04:17):
Update.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
I'm told that is not a fire. Alarm. That is
the Shadoor Sanders is going to start for the Browns
in this stadium on Friday night. Alarm, that's right, Sound
them all. Shadoor Sanders getting the start. Now, this is
partly out of necessity here, because Kenny Pigott's been dealing
with a hamstring, not doing team drills yet. Dalan Gabriel
now dealing with some hamstring. Titaness, that guy number fifteen,
(04:38):
Joe Flacco. When you're forty years old, you don't really
play in the preseasons. We will see a lot of
Shador Sanders on Friday Night against Carolina. The Browns also
picked up Tyler Huntley Snoop, who was in camp with
them last year. He signed today, giving them just a
little bit more depth on a day that there was
also another veteran backup who landed a new home.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Mike I mean well, Teddy Bridgewater back in the NFL,
A questionable decision to penalize him for what he was
doing as a high school host. Was in great work
with the with the youth down there. But you know,
sometimes decisions are weird. So Teddy Bridgewater says, I'm going
back to the NFL sign with the Buccaneers. Todd Bowles
(05:20):
happy to have quote a wealth of experience to the team.
He joins Kyle Trask, Michael Pratt, and Connor beseelk behind
Baker Mayfield. Pratt's been dealing with a back injury, so
the Buccaneers add some experience there in Teddy Bridgewater, Teddy
two gloves in Tampa, right.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
I am now joined by our good friend Jane Slater
and Bridget Connon, two of my good friends here at
the joint practice for the Dallas Cowboys Bad and the
Los Angeles Rams. Well, we've been doing the show and
focused in right here.
Speaker 7 (05:58):
On the camera.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
You guys have been folks behind me on the field.
I know you guys are are zeroing in a way
that I am most certainly not. Jane will start with you,
what'd you tell me what you've seen from everything behind?
Speaker 3 (06:09):
But for folks that don't know.
Speaker 8 (06:11):
Ian got his start at the NFL Network covering the Cowboys.
It is a beast of a beat, as you know,
and look, you can't keep up with all of it.
You keep up with thirty one other teams. So we're
always tell me we're always better together. Ian I always
loving good fun Bridget out here. Obviously she covers the
Rams as well, and Bridget one of the things that
I've been focused on. One of the things I've been
(06:34):
focused on obviously out here has been this offensive line.
Tyler Guidan has had that knee injury, and so you
can see Prescott lining up right now. Nate Thomas, his
injuries have sort of read like a like a CBS receipt,
but he is healthy and even before Tyler Geiiton went
down with that e injury, it gave him an opportunity
for Nate to sort of plug in here at the
left tackle position. Now we're looking at Mozzie Smith is
(06:57):
another guy that's dealt with an injury.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
He of course on the defense of line.
Speaker 8 (07:00):
Got a little update on him earlier day, a little
bit of a knee Sorenus. But they're still trying to
find out their rotations here along the offensive and defensive
line and doing it against some competition today.
Speaker 7 (07:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (07:10):
Absolutely, the Rams are incredibly confident along their roster, but
specifically on the defensive front, which you're looking a live
look into Rams Cowboys practice here in Oxnard. Just to
give you guys some perspective of how good this Rams
defense was.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
As the season went on. They allowed twenty five and
a half.
Speaker 9 (07:26):
Points weeks one to fourteen, but the back half of
the season, these rookies really found their stride and only
allowed thirteen points per game, which the only team that
did better were the Ravens, obviously an incredible defense there.
They ranked first in terms of tackles, sacks, quarterback hits.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
For these rookies.
Speaker 9 (07:42):
So seeing them out here, guys like Jared Jared Vers
Bryden Fisk in year two finally coming in to their
own and then just talking to people ian around the
sidelines today, so many people bring up the name Poona Ford,
a guy that they.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
Really really like, they know well.
Speaker 9 (07:59):
Obviously Shot McVeigh went against him when he was in
Seattle twice a year in the division, but McVeigh has
just praised him as a complete player and a veteran
leader for this young defense.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
It is a young defense. The craziest thing about the
Rams is, you know they've been successful for so many years.
They perennial playoff team. If you go back to last year,
about a year ago today, that was not the vibe.
There was a year in transition.
Speaker 7 (08:22):
They were moving.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
They moved on from some big name, some veteran guys,
that a bunch of young guys that most of us
had not heard of. We knew some of the big
time draft picks like first and fist, but a lot
of them we didn't know. And they made the playoffs
and really took the Eagles absolutely to the to the
absolute limit. And you know, they got a bunch of
young coaches that we are now only learning. Krishula, their
defensive coordinator, certainly has put himself as a future head
(08:46):
coach candidate because of the job he has done. Okay, well,
those young guys are now a year older. They have
showed they can play this offense. Assuming Matthew Stafford gets
out here sooner rather than later, which is what they
believe but have not seen. This is good a team
as it gets in the NFL. And that's why I
think Jane for these Dallas Cowboys. This is a real test,
say to learn something about some of their young players.
Speaker 8 (09:08):
I also covered Poona Ford when I was at Longhorn
Network at Texas, so love seeing him get an opportunity
to sort of to reboot here. But to your point,
you know, this offensive lineman is sort of this offensive
line rather it is a little bit in flux as
a result of injury. So this is really good for
them to go up against a.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Three to four front.
Speaker 8 (09:24):
They're seeing more of a four to three base coming
from Matt Eberflus, So it's just giving them different looks
early on in the season. But again they're still sort
of working on that rotation. Right now, we've got Cooper
bb at center, who has continued to grow from the
year that you've had. But I want you to key
in right now we're seeing Cavante Turpin number nine. Cavante
Turpin is such he's sort of like this little Swiss
(09:47):
army knife, a multi tool player that they can use
in the backfield but also in their passing game. They
use him a lot on special teams, but when they
gave him that extension, Brian Schottenheimer, he loves to do
a lot of pre snap motion. He likes to move players,
make them interchangeable in that passing and running game.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
I think you're gonna see a lot of.
Speaker 8 (10:05):
Opportunities for Cavante to flash for us this season in
this Schottenheimer system.
Speaker 9 (10:10):
One thing you're not seeing on your screen. But I
was standing over on the other side of the field
watching the Rams offense go up against this Dallas defense.
And as you mentioned, ian No Matthew Stafford, who's dealing
with back soreness. But everyone I'm talking to says, rather
be safe than sorry. Just keep him out of the preseason,
let him heal. He's thirty seven, he's old, he's been
hit a lot. But we are getting to see Jimmy
Garoppolo go up against or with a former teammate in
(10:32):
DeVante Adams. And that's another name that if you walk
these sidelines, people are impressed with what Davante Adams can
bring to's up. We're aboarding some some kicks over here.
What Davante Adams can ring.
Speaker 7 (10:45):
You know what I like?
Speaker 2 (10:46):
I like We're standing here, we're sitting here in the
middle of practice and we are getting absolutely pelted with
field goal attempt switch. Well, I gotta be honest, you are.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
You're used to that, right, like your head's on a swivel.
Speaker 5 (10:56):
How you're famous.
Speaker 8 (10:57):
Sideline that was wide left, So you've got to find
that video pole.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
We need some need some accuracy issues here. But you
mentioned Davante. I mean I talked to Sean McVay about
him before practice. Mean, he's been he's been everything everything
they had hoped and he is the kind of guy
in free agency he is almost never available bona fide
number one. Has absolutely done it at the highest level
and is a good guy.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
And can teach.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
I mean, it's it's the kind of thing you just
either you draft him or you just can't get them
because of a variety of circumstances, including DeVante Adams.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
We've got some chipping's going on right now.
Speaker 8 (11:30):
You know, we were saying that we were expecting this
to possibly get a little heated.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
Today, just kind of like mind right, well, we want
to keep your quarterback far away from that. But we
love look at that. Yeah, Cavante turpind in there. You
know we had some fighting the hands up.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
I I know he did.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Throughout this camp, we've seen it get really chippy.
Speaker 8 (11:51):
As Brian schtt Nimer has really been preaching compete, and
we were talking about this early.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
On the show Bridge at twenty fourteen.
Speaker 8 (11:57):
One of the more memorable square offs between the Rams
and the Cowboys when it was Aaron toddled versus Des Brant.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
We're not getting to that point. That's good, but it's
kind of.
Speaker 8 (12:05):
Like hockey sometimes we love to see them just, you
knowcite a little excitement along the glass.
Speaker 9 (12:11):
Usually that comes day two, right, and when I asked,
are you guys not doing two days, they said, no,
that's when the frights comes, So they're limiting it to
one day. Of course, the preseason matchup between these two
teams happening Saturday at SOFI Stadium, and these practices are
so important. Sean McVay says, for the starters to get
the reps because they're not gonna get them on Saturday.
That's more for the rookies and guys who are trying
(12:32):
to make this team.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
So they have. We've been going now for just over
an hour.
Speaker 9 (12:36):
He's anticipated about fifty minutes of situational football in a
controlled setting because the biggest thing Ian, as you know,
is just you don't want to get anyone injured before
the season starts.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Oh yeah, that's really for especially for teams like the
Rams that do basically nothing in the preseason with their
starters in preseason games. They just want to get out
of here alive and having his money. I mean, Stafford's
already dealing with the back end. We know that is
not practice yet you know, they just want to get
out of here as unscathed as possible, you right. I
(13:06):
mean the landscape of the NFL has changed. Is not
the preseason games that are being used to evaluate the
younger players. It's these practices right here. And it's not
just you know, best on best. It's also that coaches
can manipulate drills to see things they want of some
of their young players. We're in a preseason game, you
can't really do that. So that's why, I mean, some
(13:27):
of these drills are specifically for coaches to evaluate and say, hey,
look what do we have. Where are rookies and kind
of go from there game.
Speaker 8 (13:39):
All right, So is there anyone you're specifically looking at
as we for me running back competition?
Speaker 3 (13:43):
I don't think that has. I don't think anyone's really popped.
Speaker 8 (13:45):
I think Jaden Blue he's got to carry here against
his first carry against an NFL team here, I think
the running back position group is the one battle I'm
still looking at and one that's going to be important
in the preseason.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
There's a new head coach in Chicago Go and he
is hoping to get the most out of that quarterback
Number eighteen, Caleb Williams, the number one pick in the
twenty twenty four draft, a trying's first season in the NFL,
albeit one of which Williams put up pretty good numbers.
So what can he unlock in year two? QB one
sat down with our Stacey Dales and Bram Baldinger.
Speaker 10 (14:20):
When Caleb Williams the man the starting quarterback of the
Chicago Bears with Baldy and I they move practice a
little later.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
How are we feeling about that?
Speaker 7 (14:31):
Little?
Speaker 11 (14:32):
Yeah, we got used to the at least I did.
I got used to waking up and kind of getting
in here early and then going straight to practice. And
they've added a few more meetings in the front of
it and pushed practice back I think four hours, four
or five hours, so adjusting.
Speaker 12 (14:47):
Yeah, I feel like just watching practice they came this
was like a real good run through getting ready for game.
I mean the way that the tempo and guys are
just calling plays and running him all the substitution.
Speaker 7 (14:58):
It felt like a game day type of.
Speaker 11 (15:00):
Yeah, yeah, no, that's uh, that's what Ben is about. Uh,
basically everything being what it's going to be on Sunday,
Thursdays and Mondays. So you know, going out there and practicing,
getting after it and actually practicing like a game is
is where we're you know, where we're striving, you know,
to be at every single practice and uh, you know
when you get out to the game, it just makes
it a little bit easier.
Speaker 10 (15:19):
In your words, Caleb, how much have you been given
from Ben? Like, give us an idea of the quantity
of this offense that he's given you.
Speaker 7 (15:28):
He gives Let's let's say it's been. It's been.
Speaker 11 (15:32):
It's been a lot, which as it should be. It
is training camp and you know we're gonna test limits.
You know, our longest play calls to our shortest play
calls and even you know the longest play calls with
different checks and also having different checks after you know,
you you get a checked, there's different checks within the play.
And it's been you know, we've had we've had a
couple of those and he's just been adding more and
(15:52):
more throughout time, and it's it's been fun, it's been good.
It's been challenging. It's been frustrating when you don't get it.
But that's what practice for.
Speaker 7 (16:01):
Give me a long play call example.
Speaker 11 (16:03):
I can't. I don't want to give up my tricks
in the in the in the some of the some
of the words we actually use on the on the Uh.
Speaker 7 (16:11):
You know, when we get up to the line, you
got formation, you got.
Speaker 11 (16:13):
So yeah, okay, so we'll go we'll go uh. So
we'll go motion, we'll go formation, uh, and then we'll
have well, we'll go for we'll go motion, which is
sometimes a shift or motion, you know, mainly shift. So
we'll shift and then we'll you know, then we'll have
the formation. Then we'll have the motion, and then we'll
have the protection, and then we'll have the play. We'll
have a kill or you know and things like that
(16:33):
and then another play behind it.
Speaker 7 (16:35):
And yeah, it's it's it's fun.
Speaker 10 (16:38):
What do you love so far about getting up so
much under center?
Speaker 7 (16:42):
Changing up that footwork a bit?
Speaker 11 (16:43):
I actually enjoyed under center because it it want to
mess with the defense and then too it gives me
more ability to take a couple of shots.
Speaker 6 (16:53):
Yeah, which is always fun.
Speaker 11 (16:55):
So you draw the defense in, we run the ball well,
and that starts up front. It also starts with me
and my cammunication and getting the you know, getting the
guys going and and my cadence and things like that.
But you know, the guys up front, it always starts
with them. It's always gonna end with them. And so,
you know, getting off the ball showing like it's run.
Everything looks the same. Everything looks like.
Speaker 7 (17:12):
It's a run.
Speaker 11 (17:13):
Run run, run, playouts, and everything looks like run, run, run, run, keeper.
Everything looks like run, run, run.
Speaker 7 (17:18):
It is a run.
Speaker 11 (17:19):
And so now you're you know, you're you're getting these
big plays and tying the defense out and doing all
these different things. And then it's like, oh, now you've
got a shot, and you take it.
Speaker 7 (17:26):
And you know, when you.
Speaker 11 (17:27):
Don't have the shot, protect the football, take your checkdowns
and move on to well.
Speaker 12 (17:30):
I feel like in this league last year we saw
so much too high show across the league. It was
hard to take shots like they were taking away from it.
But the way that you get them out of it
is to run run them out of it, you know,
so I think always think, you know, Deandrei Rashan like
these guys they don't mind being eight yard steep and
taking it like that they rather than just being a
point of entry back in shotgun situation.
Speaker 7 (17:51):
No, they've they've been great.
Speaker 11 (17:53):
Uh Cale Roseean and and obviously Dre they've been great.
We're working on our on our paths daily, making sure
that we're perfect so everything looks exactly the same because everything,
you know, if we have the run looks you know,
the run looked the same as the play action and
the keeper it gets it. It opens all three for
each other. And so being able to have all those
things look the same as what we've been practicing, what
(18:14):
we've been getting on it on ourselves about and it's
been fun to watch and fun to be a part of.
Speaker 10 (18:18):
What do you love most about Ben's offense?
Speaker 11 (18:21):
I would say his creativity and then also like you
saw today, Ben goes by these these two simple things, Uh,
smash my football, old old overall smash my football and
then new and innovative football. Oh so that's you know,
to be able to Yeah you marry those Yeah, you
marry those two. And I think Ben's been able to
do that for you know, past past years and it's
(18:41):
been fun to watch and now you know, it's fun
to be a part of cale.
Speaker 7 (18:44):
But have you ever heard this before?
Speaker 12 (18:46):
There's never been a four thousand yard past that's breaking.
Speaker 7 (18:52):
Is anybody ever thrown that at you? Breaking?
Speaker 11 (18:53):
Newss A. There's never been a four thousand yard past
and no I have. And that's a that's a goal
of mine. Uh, you know, why not strive and shoot
for the moon and that you know, that's one of
the things. And I want to be that, you know,
that guy to be able to do it. I want
to be that guy to be able to go out
there and you know, have success as Bears QB and
and and be successful when I'm out there playing and uh,
(19:14):
you know with this team, and you know that's the
you know, one of the biggest parts is being able
to keep us on the field, which is you know,
taking my completions and then you know, getting the ball
and delivering an acroball to my guys and it doesn't
matter if it's a deep shot, intermediate or short game,
delivering a nice accurate ball.
Speaker 7 (19:28):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (19:28):
So that you know, the playmakers that we've drafted gotten
free agent or whatever case may be, can go make plays.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Good stuff from Caleb Williams, the Bear starting quarterback, there's
the Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott. It when it has been
unbelievably fun and spirited joint practice against the Rams, we
have all been locked in on the action. Jane stopped laughing.
Speaker 7 (19:51):
It's true.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Mostly we have all been locked in.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Uh, what have you seen, Jane.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
From the Cowboys and Rams joint practice, which, as we
talked about before, moorehand is, has become kind of the
way to evaluate players, maybe more so than preseason games.
Speaker 7 (20:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (20:07):
Well, obviously you've got to be careful with four quarters
of football in the preseason, and you know, different coaches
have different philosophies about what they expect from their you know,
their starters and their ones. I obviously with the Cowboys,
you're gonna be careful with your franchise guy, Dak Prescott,
who's just coming off an injury. So we're going to
see a lot of Joe Milton in the preseason, and
he's looked sharp out there. Now some will tell you
(20:29):
that it is a mirage that Joe Milton, he'll look strong.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
In the preseason and then you don't see it again.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
But to be fair, in the one game we saw
him a week eighteen for the Patriots, he looked strong.
So I'm looking forward to seeing what he's able to
accomplish in the preseason. But more importantly, Bridget We've talked
about how tough this defensive line is, this run game,
which was an achilles hill for the Cowboys last year.
They went out and drafted two running backs they acquired
to in the off season, Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders.
(20:59):
They're not going and a lot of they're not getting
a lot of bursts through that line. I don't know
if that's indicative of this possibly a problem that we're
gonna have to look at with this running back. I mean,
I do think they're gonna be passing heavy this year
when you've got George Pickens and Ceedee Lamb. They keep
saying they want running to be part of their identity.
I just haven't really seen a running back stand out
(21:20):
other than maybe Jaden Blew at this point.
Speaker 9 (21:22):
Well, you go against one of the best defensive lines
right now in the NFL, in the Rams defense. We
talked about it a little bit ago, but this team
is so confident in what they have upfront. And Ian,
if you go around and ask anyone in the NFL
who the best team is right now, and of course
it is August. We are months away from a super Bowl,
but they'll say the Rams after the Eagles, right, And
(21:43):
these two teams went toe to toe in the playoffs
last season. And it's because of the young defense that
we can just talk about. And that's the reason why, Jane,
you're seeing it out here. These running backs aren't able
to get a lot of separation because of guys like
Brandon Fisks, because of guys like Jared Verse.
Speaker 5 (21:59):
And Poonah Ford and just his impact.
Speaker 9 (22:02):
We continue to hear how meaningful he has been for
this young team. Ian, how different can we see this
Rams defense take off in year two with a lot
of these guys.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
Well, it is your you say, year two, that's what
it feels like. It feels like the Rams had a
restart last year. Start of the year, struggle City, and
by the end of the year they were one of
the scariest teams in the NFL. Like like they took
the Eagles right up to the max. I mean, like
the Eagles won the Super Bowl and we're the best team.
The Rams, you know, were really right there, and that's
what it felt like at the end. And if they
(22:33):
are able to continue that momentum this year with every
one a year older, with if Matthew Stafford is okay,
that's where they should be. And I say if because
we saw Stafford hanging out before practice. He is, of
course not in pads, has not yet practiced. Sean mcvayh
calling him week to week where they soar back and
saying that he has been running, he has been doing jogging,
(22:53):
but he has not been out in practice. So with
all the conversation about the Rams, we simply don't know
right now where it's going to take us until and
unless Matthew Stafford gets on the field and is the
starting quarterback like always. Meanwhile, for Dallas Cowboys, Jane no
questions about their starting quarterback, which you know, if you
(23:14):
had rewind a little bit to the middle last season,
that would definitely not be the case.
Speaker 8 (23:17):
Yeah, and I really like what we're seeing in terms
of the competitiveness with Joe Milton here in practice sort
of pushing Dak. And again when I say that, I'm
not saying that Joe Milton is the heir apparent here.
But what I'm saying is I think this is good competition,
not only pushing Dak Prescott, but also for the twos
and some of the guys that might otherwise not be
getting the sort of reps that they would normally get
(23:37):
with the ones. Micah Parsons, We've gone almost an entire
segment and not talked about him. I'm not going to
talk about his contract, but I will point out that
it is seventy four degrees here and he has been
wearing a beanie off to the side, and we saw
DeVante Adams and Andrew Whitworth talking to him. To be
a fly on the wall, would love to have known
what the what that conversation revolved around.
Speaker 9 (23:58):
It's interesting you bring that up because I've been having
eyes on him as we all have throughout practice and
during the first I would say twenty minutes when the
teams were warming up stretching, The Rams obviously were on
the right field stretching with their team, and then on
the left side where the Cowboys Micah Parson and Trevon
Diggs were over.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
I was like, are they scouting with the Rams? What
are they doing?
Speaker 9 (24:15):
But they were on the Rams field talking to Pukinnakua
for a while and just I don't know. I mean,
if you're not playing, why not just check out what
the other team's doing.
Speaker 8 (24:23):
I honestly loves football, so there is an element where
I think he's genuinely excited to be around some of
these other players.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Well, I think it's called scheming, is really what it is.
I mean, Mike is hanging out, he's enjoying practice, he
likes it, but he's doing a little scheming. Good stuff here, guys,
has been fun hanging out with you all day. Goodbye
and the Insiders. But we of course are not quite
done yet. You guys can still hang out with.
Speaker 7 (24:44):
Me if you are.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
You're kicking us off?
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Is it a choice?
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Seelaer, Dudes, because we got Malik Neighbors coming up. He's
gonna do all sorts of silly things like that, except
not really, He's just gonna sit and talk with Judavatisa,
which is also gonna be awesome coming up next on
the Insiders.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
I've made a few steps at Giants camp over the
last couple of weeks, and that guy is super impressive,
not just what he's doing on the field, but Jackson
Dart the way that he handles things around the building.
The Giants fully believe they've got themselves in the quarterback
of the future, even if he's not the guy for
the president. That'll be Russell Wilson.
Speaker 6 (25:24):
So the hope is.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
That for years to come. Many passes to Malik Neighbors,
who recently sat down with our Judy Batista.
Speaker 13 (25:32):
Malik Neighbors, thanks for joining us fresh from the practice field.
We've been out at Giants' training camp a few times
and every time we looked up, you were making some
sort of crazy catch. Really covered. You would still come
up with the ball one handed, all kinds of crazy things.
You had a great rookie year. But how do you
feel like this training camp is going for you?
Speaker 14 (25:54):
I feel like this training camp has been going great,
taking it day by day, getting to learn my teammates
more and more as I go.
Speaker 6 (26:02):
I think we're moving into the right direction.
Speaker 13 (26:06):
Do you feel like you've been particularly dominant the way
it looks to the outside to be.
Speaker 14 (26:13):
I mean, from what it looks like I've been, I
think I've been pretty dominant. Still a lot of things
to work on, so a lot of things to clean up.
Details but I feel like I've been doing great getting
back with the team.
Speaker 6 (26:23):
And just doing as much as I can to help
my team win.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (26:29):
We talked to Russell Wilson back at the start of
camp and he was raving about you and all the
questions you've been asking him about taking care of your
body and your mind and your study habits.
Speaker 15 (26:39):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (26:39):
Brian Daball today talked about like what a great influence
he thinks Russ has been on you. I know you
guys have a great chemistry on the field already, but
but what do you think Russ has helped you with.
Speaker 14 (26:51):
Most you know, like you have said, you know, just
just maintaining the health of my body. I think that's
the most important thing, as you know, when you come
into the league as an athlete, as a young athlete,
is to start the training early. I take a lot
of advice from, you know, the older guys, those veterans.
They always tell me, you know, if they would have
known what they know now, why they've been six years
(27:11):
in the league about just protecting their body. All sorts
of things are just helping them, you know, with recovery.
You know they would have been you know, been able
to feel better than what they did when they first
got in here. So just me taking that step on
forward and having Russell Wilson in my corner just been
helping me start that process early. So it's having him
in my corner. He's been very helpful with with doing that.
Speaker 6 (27:34):
Well.
Speaker 13 (27:35):
When we talked to Russ, he told us that you
want to be an all time great and his job
is to help you get there. What what do you
need to do to take the next few steps to
become an all time great?
Speaker 14 (27:47):
I would say, you know, one thing Russell Russell Wilson's
always tell me is no, He's like, you know, we
need you to be a more vocal leader. I think so,
you know, just following his you know, following by and
him following his footsteps a little bit and just taking
a little bit.
Speaker 6 (28:01):
He thinks I can take from you know, what he.
Speaker 14 (28:03):
Does when he leads, you know, how he comes to practice,
how he handles practice, all the things that get thrown
at him, how he handles himself as a professional athlete.
I think that will help me long term and just
being the best teammate, the best athlete, and the best
football player, if that's that's possible for me, all.
Speaker 13 (28:20):
Right, I want to ask you about the rookie Jackson
Dart too. We've seen some of his practices as well.
Give us the scouting report. What should we be looking
forward to from Jackson Dart?
Speaker 6 (28:30):
I think the college is the college takes to speak
for this LF.
Speaker 14 (28:32):
You know, he's gonna lose, He's gonna use his legs,
he's going to use his armstring, He's going to use
his own power.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
I think he's just an all around dog.
Speaker 14 (28:39):
When you watch his tape of just how he how
he takes on tackles, how he's able to lead his
team from being you know down or just keeping his
composure to you know, be a leader for his team.
I think that's the main thing that spoke out about
him when we reached out and asked all his teammates
about and they say he was a great leader and
just he did all the right things off the field,
you know, that made him a great leader, and it
led on the field, and his coaches had none but
(29:01):
great things to say about him. Also, you know, just
just being there for his teammates, just sticking up for
people and just leading his team to victory. So having
that other you know, QB in the room.
Speaker 6 (29:10):
You know it's going. It's gonna help us long term
for sure.
Speaker 13 (29:15):
All Right, the Giants play the Buffalo Bills at one
pm on the NFL Network in the preseason opener. First
of all, I don't know if you've been told yet
are you gonna play in it? And what are you expecting,
big picture to see from the offense?
Speaker 6 (29:28):
Right, I mean, I'm not sure.
Speaker 14 (29:29):
You know, that's up to you know, upstairs and the
coaching staff for what they want to do, you know,
with the preseason. But you know, I'm always ready to
go out there and just you know, help my team,
you know, get a win if that's possible, and just lead,
lead by example of you know, when I'm out there,
and make plays as much as possible.
Speaker 6 (29:45):
So I'm not sure what they're gonna do.
Speaker 14 (29:47):
I'm not sure if I if I will play, But
if I if I do play, I'm gonna be.
Speaker 6 (29:50):
Ready to go.
Speaker 13 (29:53):
What are you hoping to see from the offense in
these first few games.
Speaker 6 (29:57):
I'm hoping to see, you know, a very explosive offense.
Speaker 14 (29:59):
You know, we've been putting in a lot of great
work to you know, put the ball down the field,
put force the ball down the field. You know, we
have a like I said, we have some great quarterbacks
with some great arms, you know, having that veteran mindset,
you know, having those guys in there. So we're just
hoping to take every day, you know, step by step,
you know, hoping to be the much explosive offense as
we can this year. So I'm hoping that, you know,
(30:20):
I'm hoping we turned some heads this year.
Speaker 13 (30:24):
All right, before I let you go, I got to
ask you. I see it over your shoulder there, Coldgate Total.
Tell me what you're doing with them.
Speaker 14 (30:31):
I'm going to think of the preseason right now, focusing
on being you know, the healthiest version of myself. I've
been learning that, you know, putting in the work ahead
of time is setting me up for success. So rather
than being conditioning recovery or just staying on top of
my health, you know, my health with a team. So
you know, I'm excited to talk about Coldgate Total active
prevention system. It includes a you know, a two pace,
(30:52):
a two bus that south but active mouthwash that prevents
you know, just the roots are just causing you know,
or oral problems like cavities. So you know, I'm grateful
to be connecting with them. You know, I use cocaine
all the time, so just using it to help you know,
stay you know fresh on my or you know routine.
So it's having that part in this ship right now
has been great.
Speaker 13 (31:13):
Just another part of a good season on tap for you.
Malik Neighbors, Thank you so much for joining the Insiders.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
Lots of luck this season. Thank you. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
It was just six months ago that the Eagles walked
off the field in New Orleans as Super Bowl champions.
And for anybody thinking that maybe they would rest on
their laurels with one Lombardi in the case, well, Jalen
Hurts says, don't be waiting for that.
Speaker 15 (31:40):
That's an Alabama mentality and that's something that's kind of
been ingrained in us. And so given how many of
those type of guys we have around here, you know,
sec type guys, it all kind of comes from the
same template in mode and so competition is everything. How
coach Sirianni goes about it, I app and supported fully
(32:01):
and we just we just kind of build off of that.
I think Cocirianni does a really good job of again
just bringing those situations to life in practice, so we
can already have a mode and have that much conviction
when it is fourth and five and what we're going
to do third and you know one what we're gonna do.
Everybody knows what we're gonna do in that moment. But
(32:24):
but just just building that confidence on one another.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Welcome back to the insiders, Tom Pelacero, Ian Rapport and
Mike Garrifalo, who currently is in Santa Clara but spends
plenty of time around the Eagles. Well, what's the vibe
the sense that you get talking to people there, Mike
about how they're approaching this title defense.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
The Alabama mentality is fitting because Nick Saban was one
of the guys that Nick Sirianni reached out to with
regard to how to approach defending a championship. So Sirianni
had a bunch of coaches. Don Staley was another one
of them that had won titles before that he wanted
to use for this team. So everybody's bought in. I
mean it is, they're all saying the same thing. They
(33:04):
showed up the camp. The ring ceremony, which was supposed
to be earlier, was right up against camp. So Jalen
said I'm not even putting it on. The other guy said,
that's great, putting it away. We're done. We're moving on
to the twenty twenty five season. Jordan may Alatta another
one that has been big on that message everybody buying in.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
I spent three years in Alabama. I remember that mentality. Well,
that's why I am the way.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
And that's not true.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
I'm nothing like that. The New England Patriots are a
team that I spent some time around earlier in training camp.
Seems like eight thousand years ago. But for that guy
right there, Drake May certainly in a much better position
than last year because the Patriots, in a way that's
I don't know a little bit under the radar, have
remade their offensive line. Will Campbell, their first round draft pick,
as someone they believe is an absolute pro. We spent
(33:45):
a lot of time in the pre draft process talking
about arm length. Not much conversation about that in New England.
It's more about how much of an upgrade he is.
They got a young center from Georgia they really like
as well. This is an offensive line in a skill group,
by the way, that should put Drake May in a
position to succeed Tom.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
I was in Miami over the weekend, got a chance
to check in on the Dolphins. Lot's been made of
to his comments about Tyreek Hill holding him accountable. Everything
that I'm told is this has been a message throughout
the building. Yes, the quarterback and the head coach tend
to get a disproportionate amount of the accountability. They're trying
to spread that to everybody. Two has been encouraged, like
everybody else, hold everybody else in that locker room accountable,
(34:26):
and hold yourself accountable. As for Tyreek Hill, he said
it the other day, it's the first time he truly
feels like he knows the offense. He's taking notes for
the first times in meetings. Robert Prince, the new wide
receivers coach, I'm told, has been a really good influence
on Tyreek, who's at a stage of his career now
where he's thinking about legacy, how his kids are gonna
view him.
Speaker 7 (34:44):
Here.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Let's see if we get the best that Tyreek Hill
here in twenty twenty five. I know this, We'll get
the best of the insiders again tomorrow night, earlier time,
six pm Eastern. We will see you that
