Speaker 1 (00:10):
Cutdown day has officially passed, and some quarterback rooms across
the NFL got a shakeup. We will tell you about
all these significant moves, the one still to come, and
who is now one snap away In Cleveland. We are
just nine days away from the start of the regular
season and there's still questions about the two teams kicking

(00:30):
it off Thursday night. Will Michael Parsons be there well,
the Eagles offense come out rored our Brian Balding gir
will be here for a Baldy's breakdown on this battle.
We also finally have an answer on the Saints quarterback battle,
and it's not going to be the rookie that you
might have been expecting. We will dig into why Spencer
Rattler will get the ball week one and whether it'll

(00:52):
make a difference for a Saints team in transition. Welcome
inside with the insiders alongside Ian Judy Batista and Mike Garafalo.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
I am Tom Pellisero.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
We had something in the neighborhood of one thousand transactions
across the league, not exaggeration, somewhere right around one thousand,
so many that the NFL has not even distributed the
transaction wire yet. They're still putting all those together in
print form. But we only got sixty minutes in this show,
so let's start off by talking about some of the
big names that are now looking for potentially new homes.

(01:25):
You see a bunch of veteran wide receivers hitting the
streets today, Hunter Renfro with the Panthers, more and what
that could mean in a little bit. Deontay Johnson from
the Browns eighth time he's been part of a transaction
recently mvs. Nicole Hardman, Robert Woods all out there. So
are a couple of the veteran running backs, Cam Akers
and Clyde Edwards. E Lair With the Saints, they've got

(01:46):
Alvin Kamara. Of course, they've got Kendre Miller, and they
finally have a starting quarterback. That was the big news
today for these Saints. It will be Spencer Rattler, as
coach Kellen Moore announced, who is QB on and more?
This is normal said, this is not just a wake
one thing. This is for the entire regular season. Ratler

(02:07):
had been in a battle with Tyler Shuck, the rookie
second round draft pick, as well as Jake Hayner, who
is No. Longer part of a team, but you knew
Ian when Rattler began to have the first team reps
in the third preseason game, that he was likely the guy.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
That's exactly how it worked out. Let's hear more from
Kellen Moore on the decision.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Spencer Ratler's are starring quarterback. Really really excited for him.
He's done an awesome job this offseason. So he's just
been consistent. He's made some really good decisions throughout this
whole entire process, and you know, his ability to make
plays with his arm and his feet have certainly shown up.
And so I'm really really excited about Spencery. He's earned
this opportunity. He's gonna do a tremendous job for us.

(02:47):
At the same time, we're really really fortunate we got Tyler.
Loved the development that he's he's had over the course
of this entire offseason. You know, he's done a number
of things for the first time in his career, you know,
just navigating that and I think that's an important aspect
when you're younger quarterback to let the whole process play
itself out. I thought he capped it off with just
an excellent performance against Denver on the last preseason game.

(03:09):
I thought did a really really good job. And so
I'm a big believer in just the importance of developing quarterbacks,
developing them the right way. There's a process for both
of these guys, allowed give them the space to develop,
and we think we've got two guys that are going
to have great careers for us.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
So that's the development piece of this scene that Kellen
Moore continues to say is the focus for Tyler Shuku.
When he went high in the second round, I think
a lot of people just kind of assume, well, this
is the guy who's going to step right in. But
I go back to something that one of the coaching
candidates who interviewed with the Saints told me way back
in January, which was when he dug into the tape.
Spencer Radler was the best quarterback on the roster last year,

(03:47):
played better than Derek carl being under really challenging circumstances.
Why is Spencer Rattler the guy for this Saints team
right now?

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Well, the simple reason right now is that Spencer Raleigh
in a camp competition, a full on, very open quarterback competition.
A lot of people thought that Tyler Shuck would come
in and just get these starting job because he was
the most NFL ready and because he was the high
draft pick and all the things, Spencer Raller won it.
And if you're the New Orleans Saints, that's a good thing.
Is it perfect? Nothing is perfect right now, Like, we

(04:18):
don't know for sure if any of these guys are
the Saints QB one for the next ten years. We
don't know if any of these guys our franchise quarterback.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
But what we do know is that in and open.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Competition, based on the consistency, based on as Kellen Moore said,
using making plays with his arm and his legs, based
on his understanding of the operation, based on the way
he handled all parts of the quarterback competition, Spencer Raller
won it, kind of continuing on what he did last year.
The other part of this is just because Tyler Shuck

(04:49):
was the quote unquote most NFL ready quarterback doesn't mean
he's actually NF already. There's so much that goes into it.
They do not need to force him out there. It's
a long season, so many teams used two quarterbacks. This
is a good thing that the Saints have said, you know,
what just whenever it comes, it comes, we're gonna wait.
It will be Tyler Shuk's time. It is just not
right now, so he will wait and he'll watch.

Speaker 6 (05:13):
You know, it's actually a pretty new phenomenon that we
expect rookie quarterbacks to come into the league and immediately
become the starting quarterback right out of the gate. That
for years and years that was not the case. We
expected rookies to sit for a long time, sometimes for
an entire season. But in three of the last four years,
three of the last four seasons, three rookie quarterbacks have

(05:34):
started the season, including last season when we had Jaden
Daniels and Caleb Williams and Bo Nix and then of
course Drake May got in there very quickly soon after.
That's the lesson here is just because the rookie is
not going to start the season opener doesn't mean he
can't be inserted immediately into the starting lineup. But for
this season, cam Ward in Tennessee is going to be it.

(05:57):
It looks like he is going to be the only
rookie who goes out there on opening day. And you
know what, that really falls in line with what the
assessment was by teams going into the draft, which was
they thought cam Ward was the only one who was
worthy of a first round pick and was the only
one who was really ready to become a starting quarterback

(06:18):
right out of the gate. And that is how it
looks like it's going to be. But again, things change
very fast in the NFL. We have seen it season
after season. Rookie quarterbacks get thrown in there very quickly.

Speaker 7 (06:29):
Yep, Cardinals, Niners, Seahawks, Bills. I think of the first
four games, with those first two at home, which is
a good opportunity for Spencer Rattler to get this offense
with Kellen Moore off to a good start, at.

Speaker 8 (06:42):
Least in his mind. I just don't air it this,
thank you very much.

Speaker 7 (06:45):
Control room always on it. I'm not looking at this
team as a playoff team, and I think there's going
to be some games that, even especially early in the season,
could get out of hand for the Saints. That allows
you the chance to get Tyler Schuck onto the field,
at least in little spurts along the way. I think
there's gonna be those opportunities for New Orleans and that's
part of the whole development there. Peter Jent the Dbacks coach.

(07:08):
Nice throw there, but you big guy, So you know,
I think you're gonna see Tyler Shuck early in the season.
I think it's going to be something where you know,
it's it's allowing.

Speaker 9 (07:19):
Him the chance. Du doy.

Speaker 7 (07:20):
You remember back when Eli Manning was the quarterback of
the Giants drafted, they kept putting them in every chance
they get until they finally turned it over to him
at some point. So that's going to be the path
I think for Tyler Shuck to get a little experience under.

Speaker 8 (07:31):
His wings and learn from Spencer Ratler as he's watching.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
One of the things that Kellen Moore liked about both
these quarterbacks going through the course camps, not just they'd
played a ton of football they process well, but also
it'd been through some adversity. Spencer Ratler is the same
guy who got beat out, was replaced by Cal Williams,
and Oklahoma went the South. Carolina got the crap kicked
out of him. Just continue to play. Good for Spencer
Rattler going out and winning this job. Now, let's see

(07:55):
how long he can hang on to it. If you
look back at the comparison of their number in the preseason,
here between Spencer Ratler and Tyler Schuck, who both got
opportunities to start. It's pretty similar across the board in
virtually every single statistical category. But again, when Rattler got
the start in the third preseason game, that seemed like

(08:15):
the point at which it was tilting in his direction.
And now has been to bring Brian Baldinger into the conversation.
These Saints with a new head coach and Kellen Moore
with a new offensive Bourdier with a whole lot of
new although with some veteran wide receivers on that team,
they at least have a guy Baldy who's been out
there and seeing NFL football before.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
What did you make of the decision? Well, you're right, Tommy.

Speaker 10 (08:36):
Spencer Rattler did play six games last year for the
same so he's got a little bit more experience. I
was out there in Metorie on a day with a scrimmage.
They had one hundred and twenty six play scrimmage, and
they really split up the reps like they did all
preseason long, between Rattler and Shuck.

Speaker 9 (08:53):
Shuck started one game, Rattler started too.

Speaker 10 (08:55):
I thought it was significant last week that Spencer Rattler
started the own time in his preseason where he actually
started with his wide receivers a lave Rashid Shahi like
the guys that he's going to be throwing to this
coming or next coming Sundays when he starts the season.
I thought it was a very open competition. I thought
it was very very fair. And look that brain trust

(09:19):
of Kell Moore, Doug Neusmyer, Scott Linehan, They've been around
a long long time and been around a lot of quarterbacks.
They see these guys in the meetings, they see him
every day of practice. I don't think they just handed
Spencer the job because he's got some experience. I think
they felt like he was the truly best guy for
the job. And the only thing you could say about
Tyler Shuck is he's bigger. He's six foot five, he's

(09:42):
got it over the top release, he looks more like
the part. He's probably faster, runs better. We saw some
of that preseason, but it's really about decision making and
speed of decision making, and Spencer Ratler, probably over the
course of the last month in the offseason, was probab
I means just a little bit better at and so
he gets a nod here and a really true and

(10:06):
even quarterback competition.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Baldi, You and I were both there for that scrimmage
a few weeks ago. He saw Tyler shuck the first
drive down running with the twoes, but he let him
right down the field for a touchdown. Then after that,
I got a little bumpy and there were a couple
of red zone interceptions.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
You see some of those things that pop up.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Even though he's about to turn twenty six years old
next month, still a first timer in the NFL, it
makes sense if they don't feel like he is ready
right now.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
For this moment.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Roll with the guy who's shown the toughness to get
through some of those tough times, Baldi, stick around. A
lot more to come from you throughout the course of
this show. We had a ton of quarterback movement across
the NFL in the past several days, including the Raiders
acquiring one. Kenny Pickett traded for the third time in
the past couple of years, this time to the Raiders
in exchange for a twenty twenty six fifth round draft pick.

(10:54):
He now backs up Gino Smith, which in turns mean
the Browns need a new backup quarter back behind Joe Flacco.
Kevin Stefanski announcing it just a short time ago, it
will be Dylan Gabriel as the two. Now Shador Sanders
still on the roster, he will be the number three quarterback,
which means under the current rules, he can dress on Sundays,
but he can only go into the game in an

(11:15):
emergency type of situation. All of which Judy would not
really be news. It wouldn't really be a story and say, yeah,
the third round pick is going to get that, not
over the fifth rounder. But nothing's normal about the Browns
quarterback situation here. What was your reaction to Kevin Stefanski said, Hey,
we believe Dylan Gabriel is ready right now to be
the two.

Speaker 6 (11:35):
Well, I think if you watched the last preseason game
by the Browns, you could not possibly have been surprised
by this outcome and Kevin Stefanski's announcement. First of all,
as soon as Kenny Pickett was traded, that signaled that
they were comfortable with the rookies and specifically with Dylan
Gabriel as a backup quarterback. Joe Flacco has been the

(11:56):
starter all along. He got all of the first team reps,
or all but a handful of first team reps all
summer long, so he was always the starter. And then
when Kenny Pickett got hurt during training camp and couldn't
compete for the starting job, well, then he turned all
of your attention to the rookies. Now, Chadour had the
really good debut in that first preseason game when Dylan

(12:16):
Gabriel couldn't play. But then in the second and third
preseason games, Dylan Gabriel showed that he could run the offense.
And what he did in particular that they really loved
was he was converting third down after third down after
third down. He kept the chains moving, he was operating
in rhythm, he was getting guys involved. He looks like

(12:37):
he can be a backup quarterback right now and potentially
go in there and operate that offense if he has
to go in in place of Joe Flacco. So I
don't think you can be surprised if you watch this.
I know there are people who do not believe that
Shador Sanders got an equivalent opportunity to prove himself. Certainly,
his injury during training camp and during the preseason set
him back a little bit as well. Dylan Gabriel sees

(13:01):
that opportunity.

Speaker 7 (13:03):
Gabriel had a pick six duty in that game against
the Eagles. You're talking about that second preseason game, but
there were there was confusion on the route between the
targets there and that's not on him. And even after that,
he came back and performed well. He responded to the
mistakes that he was making, so he did look sharp
in the last couple of preseason games. I was there
relatively early in training camp. He looked sharper than Shador

(13:25):
Sanders that day, and then talking to folks, they were
really impressed there with what they had seen from Dylan Gabriel.

Speaker 8 (13:31):
So yeah, I mean, it's it just.

Speaker 7 (13:32):
It fits with where they were drafted and how the
performance has been this summer. And I know that some
folks are not necessarily going to agree with that. As
far as you know, the notion of Shador Sanders being
set up to fail and Gabriel given a position to succeed.
The Browns do not feel that way at all, and
they feel like they have given both of these guys
ample opportunity in the spring all the way through.

Speaker 8 (13:54):
The summer to show what they have.

Speaker 7 (13:56):
They had to make an evaluation and they went with
Dylan Gabriel on this.

Speaker 8 (13:58):
One doesn't mean it's a over.

Speaker 7 (14:00):
Could continue through the regular season, could continue potentially in
the next offseason with these guys possibly buying for the
starting job. But as it stands right now, they believe
Dylan Gabriel beat out Shador Sanders for that number two job,
and that's the way that they've stacked the depth chart.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
And it's an interesting decision. It's been an interesting discussion.
I've enjoyed watching the career arc of Shador Sanders in
the last three weeks, going from the highest of highs
to the oh my god, what are we reading on
the internet? To everything in between. Obviously, the Browns are
not sabotaging anything that's ridiculous. But let's talk about the
starting quarterback, because those guys that you mentioned are not
the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns. Joe Flacco, we know,

(14:37):
won this quarterback competition. One of the big reasons why
Kenny Pickett was able to be traded to the Las
Vegas Raiders. He is the second oldest starting quarterback in
the NFL. He is not the future franchise starter for
the Cleveland Browns or though honestly, I think most people
thought his career was probably over three years ago, and
he keeps rolling. He still got a great arm, so
I don't want to doubt him at all. I'm just saying,
with all the discussion of the backup quarterbacks, all eyes

(15:00):
are now in Joe Flacco's QB one, and based on
when I saw when I was in training camp, base
to what we've seen in the preseason, he is looking
forward to being very proficient and efficient for what the
Browns hope is a team that exceeds some expectations.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
Also important to remember last year they tried to run
sort of a hybrid offense. Ken Dorsey was there as
the offensive coordinator and obviously didn't come together the way
that they envisioned. Now we're back to Kevin Stefanski's offense.
He's calling the plays. It's a precision type of rhythm offense.
That's why you like a guy like Dylan Gabriel who
might not have the size but is going to process
it and get the football out quick. They certainly hope

(15:35):
they don't have to find out how that would go
in a regular season game anytime soon. The history we
tell you at some point we might see Gabriel on
the field. Now, I mentioned that there were a lot
of quarterback moves over the past couple of days, including
a bunch of guys who have all started in the league.
Will Greer now is a free agent with the Cowboys,
Joe Milton winning the number two job there, the Cardinals

(15:55):
moving on from a former draft pick in Clayton toon.
How about the Falcons cutting easton Steady all in on
Kirk Cousins again staying as the number two behind Michael
Pennocks junior. Of course, Tommy DeVito is also on that list.
I'm sure we will talk about that more as this
thing rolls on. But Mike, we still have some questions
with other quarterback situations around the league, not necessarily with

(16:16):
the starters, but how the two, the three of the
numbers of guys in the room shakes out what jumped
out of you over these past couple of days.

Speaker 7 (16:24):
Here and you say, oh, well, they just got Kenny Pickett,
they just got their number two. Yeah, they paid a
fifth round pick for Picket. And now you've got Aidan O'Connell,
who's not out for the season, coming back at some
point potentially. So the deal, by the virtue of giving
up that fifth round pick, say, well, we pretty much
locked in Kenny Pickett as our two. Or O'Connell, who
did impress at some points in the preseason has started

(16:46):
games plenty of them for the Raiders over the last
couple of years. Does he get his job back at
number two? That's what I'll be looking at. I mean,
a few of the Raiders who say, hopefully none of
that matters. And Gino Smith is our guy the whole
way through, and we like how reliable and available he's
been the last couple of years. Pete Carroll certainly believes
in him, and he's motivated to show people he's still
got good football left great. But I'm kind of interested

(17:07):
now in the in season battle potentially between Pickett and
O'Connell for number two.

Speaker 4 (17:12):
I'm kind of interested in the in season going on.
Is that the New York Giants and their quarterback room.
Russell Wilson is going to be the starter. That has
been no question, that has been the storyline throughout. But
Jackson Dard looked really good. And I know, obviously they
cut Tommy DeVito and it's you know, that was the
fourth quarterback and he's famous for many other reasons, including
his agent wearing that ridiculous had But Jackson Dard is

(17:33):
the guy that we're going to be talking about and
when he actually plays, and if all goes well for
the Giants, best case scenario, he doesn't play it, which
means Russell Wilson roles. The team is good, they're looking
at the playoffs, and there's no need to see the rookie.
If they are kind of up and down and get
to a point toward the end of the year when
they could use a little bounce, do we see Jackson
Dard kind of fulfill some of the promise he showed

(17:54):
in the preseason. That is going to be one of
the really fun and fascinating things about the Giants season.

Speaker 6 (18:01):
Well across town also bears watching with the New York Jets.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Justin Fields, of course, is the starter.

Speaker 6 (18:06):
Tyrod Taylor is the backup, and he's one of the
best backup quarterbacks in the entire NFL, except he's already
had a knee issue this summer and he does, unfortunately
have his own injury history. The only other quarterback on
their roster right now is undrafted rookie Brady Cook, So
the question is could they be looking to bring in
a veteran quarterback to be the number three, put them

(18:26):
on the practice squad. Could that be somebody like Tommy Devido.
He wouldn't even have to leave New Jersey. But certainly
bears watching. They believe Tyrod Taylor is going to be
ready for Week one, at least that's what head coach
Aaron Glenn has said so far, But because of his
injury history, he got to keep an eye on who
might be their number three.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
The Vikings quarterback room continues to be in flux. I
feel like we've been saying that for years now. They
signed Carson Wentz, traded away Sam Howell over the weekend.
The question now is simply is Carson Wentz, who was
not even practiced with the team at this point, just
going to roll out there and be ready to be
the number two behind JJ McCarthy in Week one. He
certainly has the history, He's played in similar types of offenses.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Here.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
They also have Max Brozmer, undrafted free agent out of
the University of Minnesota who really impressed in the preseason.
Probably not ideal to have a guy who's never played
an NFL snap backing up another guy who's never played
an NFL snap but that is definitely one to potentially
keep an eye on in Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
We'd also be.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
Remiss if we did not in the first block of
this show get to some breaking news that Ian Rappaport
is going to bring us.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
Right now, Travis and Taylor are getting married. So the
best story in the NFL. It is the biggest story
in the NFL. It is perfect. I mean, look at
those two. I can't imagine. First of all, I want
to know who set up the flowers and how did
this not get out? How did they have such utter

(19:51):
secrecy to not only set this up, haven't proposed take
the pictures? Nobody released it. They get their Instagram post
read you know, I mean, that's it's beautiful. And then
of course the chiefs congratulate them. This is everything we
have all wanted. They look like they are in love.
They seem to be extremely happy. It has been so
good for the two of them, and.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
Travis is awesome. I don't know Taylor, but I'm sure
she's great too. Mean, it'll be great for the NFL,
bringing so many young fans. It is today is a
great day for all of us.

Speaker 8 (20:21):
You're you're phrasing. Look, they look to be and seem
to be. I don't understand your phrasing.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
What were you? I mean, I don't they That's awesome,
it's good, it's good, and it's spectacular. Tom biggest story
of the death, all right, yes, thank you.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
We got it.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
A lot of other news though around the NFL, including
but we got games coming up really really soon. There's
one in Brazil between mister Taylor Swift and the Chiefs
against the Chargers. We've got the Eagles, but if any
Vams back on to the field, we got a lot
of questions still surrounding everybody headed into Week one. We
will get to all of it right after this on

(21:07):
The Insiders.

Speaker 6 (21:19):
Welcome back to the Insiders. Very very busy few days
around the NFL.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
These are some.

Speaker 6 (21:24):
Bigger names that you might recognize, players who've been cut
or released in the last few days. Hunter Renfro that's
a big one from the Carolina Panthers. You see Cam
Aker as Clyde Edwards, Hilaire, a whole lot of veteran
wide receivers, literally a thousand or so transactions have gone
on in the last few hours or so. Hundreds and
hundreds of players on the move. But I got my

(21:47):
guys here to make sense of it all. Steve Wish,
Brian Baldinger, Jeffrey Chidia. All of those moves, and there
are still some moves that teams ought to be making.
That's what we're going to talk about now, Jeffrey, I'm
going to start with you what tam should still be
making a move and where should they be making it?

Speaker 11 (22:03):
No, the forty nine ers, I mean, their receiver situation
is really rough. You're talking about Ricky Pearsol, a second
year veteran, being the leader in the receiving room right now.

Speaker 9 (22:12):
They traded for Sky Moore.

Speaker 11 (22:14):
DeMarcus Robinson is the only other receiver on the roster
who's practiced at a regular pace and he's facing a
three game suspension, and Juwan Jennings is hurt, and Brendan
Ayuk is on the puplist, and so they need to
look a few more bodies in that room to make
this work. I know some guys are going to come
back from an injury, but right now, if you're a
brock party and Kyle Shanahan got to you gotta do
some heavy lifting when it comes to leaving up that personnel.

(22:35):
Because Baldy knows I chose the forty nine ers, I
get to it off to a hot start, and.

Speaker 9 (22:39):
That receiver room may make it really rough on that happening.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Ye, we did just show that board.

Speaker 6 (22:45):
There of wide receivers available, veteran wide receivers available, So
they may have some names to pick from, but certainly
it is awfully thin in San Francisco. All right, Steve,
let's go to you what team needs to make a move.

Speaker 9 (23:00):
Well, I'm going with the Raiders.

Speaker 12 (23:01):
Now, look, they've got one of the best defensive ends
in Max Crosby and Malcolm Coots is coming back from injury,
so they could have a pretty good bookend tandem. But
on the interior, that's where they might have some issues. Now,
Tyree Wilson, the former first round draft picks, had a
really good preseason and they can roll him inside and
they can also play him on the edge.

Speaker 5 (23:20):
But inside they've really.

Speaker 12 (23:21):
Got to buckle down because there maybe find some more
talent or depth because their linebackers, I'll put it this way,
are experienced on short term deals, and then behind them
in the secondary they still have a lot of question marks.
So the edges they've got the opportunity to get to
the quarterback. They've got some vulnerability on an improved roster
at some of those other spots, especially the defensive interior.

Speaker 6 (23:46):
If you mentioned it's Steve. They've done a lot of
work on that roster. There's been a lot of churn
of personnel. They just added Kenny Pickett only about twenty
four hours ago, but they still need to do some
work on the defense.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
All right, Baldy, who you got, Well, I'm.

Speaker 10 (24:00):
Going to go to the World champions here, Judy. You
know they just traded a very promising young defensive tackle
on Thomas Booker to the Raiders for Jacorey and Bennett.
They're trying to figure out who's going to play corner
opposite Quinyon Mitchell Cooper de Jan's in the slot and
Dori Jackson hasn't.

Speaker 9 (24:19):
Won the job.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
Keey Ringo hasn't done the job. They just released Eli.

Speaker 10 (24:22):
Rix's major concerns there at the one corner, and then
on the defensive line outside of Nolan Smith, we think
Jalob huck Hunt is going to be okay coming off
a pretty good postseason in a second year, but is
Oz's aziz Oja Lowry is josh U. Are they the
answers in a defense where Vic Fangio loves to roll

(24:46):
eight guys through and keep them fresh, And are those
guys able to be enough of a pass rush off
the edge with what they have right now and what
they are used to having when they won that championship
and just made Patrick Mahomes eat a lot of grass
seed last year in that Super Bowl win.

Speaker 9 (25:04):
Of theirs.

Speaker 6 (25:06):
Well. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman had a press availability
a few hours ago, and he made clear something we
know about him anyway, which is he's not done. Just
because the roster is set for now doesn't mean it
is final. It is never final, especially in Philadelphia.

Speaker 8 (25:22):
It is August twenty sixth.

Speaker 7 (25:24):
Do you know where your franchise defensive player is? Micah
Parsons status for Week one still waiting, still TBD, has
not practiced.

Speaker 8 (25:34):
The Cowboys do consider him healthy.

Speaker 7 (25:36):
Brian Schottenheimer remains optimistic in large part because he's got
good communication going on with Michaeh.

Speaker 9 (25:41):
Parsons.

Speaker 13 (25:43):
Mike and I had a long conversation, probably talked for
an hour about a lot of different things and addressed
a number of different issues and things like that. And
at this point I'm going to keep that between he
and I, but we had a very very good conversation.
The fact he's been here gives him a little bit
of a leg up on the fact that he knows
the defense, and that could be a completely different story

(26:04):
if he wasn't here. But at the end of the day,
I think once we want him out there as soon
as possible, and when he's feeling up to it and
all those things is a big factor into it. But
every day that he can get out there and get
reps would be would be great. But I will think
I do think very strongly that him being around has
helped him doing some of the walkthroughs and things like

(26:25):
that does help.

Speaker 7 (26:29):
You know why we need Michael Parsons on the field,
Judy Batista and Steve Weish, you guys are part of
the show on a regular basis.

Speaker 8 (26:34):
We need new b roll that's called b roll what
we just showed.

Speaker 7 (26:36):
There and the one of him stretching back like this,
just showing that one over and over.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Micah, get on the field, man. We need more footage.

Speaker 7 (26:44):
Steve Weisch, let me throw it to you first here
because the Micah Parsons absence they've got new play callers here.
How's that going to affect the Cowboys potentially as we
get closer to this Week one game.

Speaker 12 (26:53):
Yeah, you know Matti e. Rifluss in DC, Michah Parsons.
You know, he was at some of the offseason workouts.
He has been there, So the mental reps that we
like to say they're there, but they haven't be able
to pair him in combinations on the field and do
certain things a defensive coordinators like to do this, he
would gives him the most impactful situation.

Speaker 5 (27:10):
So we'll see if he gets on the field.

Speaker 12 (27:12):
Remember he's got that back issue that's been kind of
bothering him, and we'll see if you want to miss
a game check if he is declared healthy. So this
is where the bridge we have to kind of cross.
Is it a health issue, is it a financial issue?
What it's going to happen, But the fact he hasn't
been on the field by now, as Schottenheimer said, it
is not completely horrible since he's been there, but you

(27:34):
have to get calloused, especially when you're opening up against
Lane Johnson and an Eagles team that can put it
on you.

Speaker 14 (27:43):
Well.

Speaker 6 (27:44):
Schottenheimer also said that he meaning Micah will be on
a pitch count, assuming that he plays in Week one,
that there will be a pitchcount for him because he
hasn't practiced.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Steve all right.

Speaker 6 (27:55):
They've got most of their personnel back, of course at
the Philadelphia Eagles, but they do have a new offensive
play callers. So whether Micah is on the field or not,
how do we think that Eagles offense is going to
attack the Cowboys?

Speaker 12 (28:08):
Well, I mean they're gonna They're gonna run the Football's
what the Eagles do. I mean, they're they're gonna mix
some things up. If Mike is there or not, they'll
figure some things out. I mean, last year the Eagles
buried the Cowboys twice and wher Cooper rush are starting
quarterback back, was hurt both games. But Michael Parsons he
had two tackles in one game. The other hand, he
had two sacks. But again these were blowout victories by Philadelphia.

Speaker 5 (28:28):
But you look at even look.

Speaker 8 (28:29):
At the film there with Jalen Hurts running it.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
They're not afraid to run at Michael Parsons. They're not
afraid to run away from him. So they're going to
vary some things.

Speaker 12 (28:37):
But running is what they're going to do, and that's
going to be the attack against Dallas until the Cowboys
can stop.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (28:45):
As I mentioned, the Eagles are preparing as if Michael
Parsons is going to play.

Speaker 8 (28:48):
If they're going to be surprised.

Speaker 7 (28:50):
One way, it's going to be that, oh, he's not playing,
rather than Oh, he's playing. So that's how they're going
to prepare over the next week or so here and
running the football gonna be a big part of it
with Patuologis like it was with Kellen Moore. I'm looking
for AJ Dillon too as well. I mean, I know
we're focusing a lot on Saquon Barkley coming off the
year that he had, but AJ Dillon back into action

(29:10):
another fresh set of enormous quads ready to get rolling
behind that Eagles offensive line.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
The Chargers have waited and waited for Naji Harris to
be ready to play football.

Speaker 5 (29:22):
That is certainly something that has been on their minds
and in their.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
Hearts ever since the tragic accent or scary accent, I
should say, regarding fireworks.

Speaker 5 (29:32):
The Chargers have just released their roster.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
I've not had a chance to scan it, but our
understanding is that Naji Harris would be moved from the
non football injury list to the active roster. We will
see when he will be able to play, if he
is able to join the team for their opener, which
of course is right there in South Powlo, Brazil. It
is going to be the Chargers, it is going to
be the Chiefs. It's going to be a lot to

(29:55):
get to what should be a really good game. And
for that, let's bring in our good friend Jeffrey Chidea
joining me and colleague Tom Polosero. Jeff, I want to
start not with the Chargers, but I want to start
with the Kansas City Chiefs. One of the things one
of the teams I know you covered extremely closely. Tell
me about Robert Tunyan and why he could be a

(30:16):
key weapon for Kansas City.

Speaker 11 (30:17):
No, not just Robert Tanya, but Taekwon Thornton to a
receiver and a titand who showed up in training.

Speaker 9 (30:23):
Camp and really turned heads with the way they played.
Tynan was on the practice squad and as you guys know, he.

Speaker 11 (30:29):
Was a big player in the Green Bay Packers years
ago with Aaron Rodgers. He's really found a second life
here and he could be a big player in his
passing game with Travis Kelsey probably not getting as many
snaps and Thornton really with his speed, a guy who
didn't work out as a second round pick in New
England has really showed up as well with Hollywood Brown
being out, so he could be.

Speaker 9 (30:47):
A bigger factor as a third receiver.

Speaker 11 (30:49):
But on the defensive side of this, look for the
return of Derrek Naddi, a player who's been with the
Chiefs for six years, went to the Jets. Didn't work
out being a big boost this defensive line because their
interior play, aside with Chris Jones.

Speaker 9 (31:01):
Has been lacking.

Speaker 11 (31:01):
They were worried about that bringing Naughty back makes that
defensive line a lot more a lot less of a concern.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Right now, Chiefs have dealt with some wide receiver interest
for the course training camp. Chargers have dealt with some
offensive line injuries Jeffrey pretty significant ones, including losing Rayshawon Slater.
Tell me about what you're looking for in terms of
how they're going to approach this opener.

Speaker 11 (31:23):
Yeah, Offensive cordator Greg Rohan was talking about just being
optimistic about being able to move some players around and
make it at work with the loss of Rashaun Slater. Ironically,
when they played the Chiefs last year in Week four,
they didn't have for Shaun Slater and didn't have Joe
Alt either. Now you've got All playing left tackle. They
knew Trey Pipkins to right tackle. But the big thing
here with Najie Harris coming back in the drafting of

(31:45):
Omarion Hampton.

Speaker 9 (31:47):
They want to be able to run the football.

Speaker 11 (31:48):
They believe they can be a grind it, out, beat
you up team and playing in Week one in Brazil
A Division game against the Chiefs, they know they have
to get off to a hot start. I think this
offensive line will be just fine with Joe All playing
left tackle because they've had to do this before. I
guess a team as good as a Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (32:06):
Yeah, that's exactly right.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
I mean, you know, listen, if you have Joe All's
side over to left tackle, could new worse?

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Could you worst?

Speaker 4 (32:12):
By the way, I want to go back tom to
what I mentioned before the Chargers did officially release their
fifty three man roster. I didn't get a chance to
scan it while he was literally asked you questions. But
Nigie Harrison has officially been moved to the active roster,
so that is a good thing. I wish my speed
reading skills were what they were, but they are not anyway. Jeffrey,
thank you very much for joining us. Great stuff as always.

(32:35):
Yeah that was speed reading and lots of names on
cutdown days literally.

Speaker 5 (32:41):
Why we were here.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
Josh Allen, the Ragning NFL MVP back now four year eight,
Bill's wrapping up training camp, made their cuts from along
with the rest of the league.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
Today and the last.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
Episode of Hard Knocks, we learned a little more about
how the team is using sports science to try to
make the MVP even better.

Speaker 15 (33:03):
Fancy term would be applied biomechanics and performance analysis. The
simple terms is we're measuring the quarterbacks movement to help
optimize their efficiency and help them avoid injury. And it
always starts with the kinematic sequence, right, So how do
we take power from the ground pass it up to

(33:23):
the body.

Speaker 16 (33:25):
Chris Hess honestly changed my life in terms of how
I from the football.

Speaker 9 (33:30):
He knows what I've looked like at my best. He
knows what I've looked like at my worst.

Speaker 15 (33:36):
When we started measuring Josh six years ago, one of
the fastest internal shoulder rotation he was very arm dominant thrower.
When he started, he was almost like he's just chucking
a rock. So he kind of went from a chucker
to a thrower and now he's involved into a passer.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
Do you see anything?

Speaker 14 (33:57):
Yeah, yeah, leaning back and just overtoes and what may
take another for about two months he can do a
two or three reps and just be like, you mean
like this, It's like, yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
Also tend to be a pretty arm dominant thrower. Welcome
back to the Insiders, Tom pelisero I and Rappaport, Judy Bataste,
Mike harfollow your thoughts.

Speaker 8 (34:27):
What's he got on golf swings?

Speaker 7 (34:29):
Could usually I mean, Josh Allen a big golfer too,
and I think that that's, you know, sort of helped Josh.
I think he's even said that at some point about
playing golf as could have helped him with his mechanics
and translate it in that regard, but just slowing it
down and fine tuning things. It's that natural ability when
he was coming out. Now you're applying the science to it.
It's all coming together. He's only getting better at MVP

(34:51):
season for him, super impressive.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
Hard.

Speaker 7 (34:53):
I've thought this whole Hard Knock season. I think it's
been awesome. It's been one of their best seasons. So
if you haven't seen it, get get caught up. I
know we had some spoilers today you know who's gonna
get cut and whatever.

Speaker 8 (35:05):
But it's been a good season.

Speaker 5 (35:09):
It has been a good season.

Speaker 4 (35:10):
I love Hard Knocks And one of the reasons that
you love Hard Knocks is literally for things like this,
right Like, I theoretically do this for a living, and
I've never heard of any of that.

Speaker 5 (35:20):
I did not know that person. I didn't know Josh
Allen works. I know that armed guys.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
Exist, Like there's a bunch of really great guys in
Adda in California who do it, Adam Dado and.

Speaker 5 (35:29):
His group there, and.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
There's a lot of really good guys. I just I
had never seen this before, and trying to understand. Talk
about QB development, right like, we talked about this with
the relationship the Colts and Anthony Richards who We've talked
about it a lot.

Speaker 5 (35:41):
This is literally how you develop.

Speaker 4 (35:43):
You break it down, you build, you learn, you figure
out how to get better. This is really cool inside stuff.
And one of the reasons Hard Knocks is just awesome.

Speaker 6 (35:54):
I'm always amazed at how even the most elite players
are not finished products, right. They are constantly tinkering and
analyzing themselves. And I remember Peyton Manning deep into his
career when he was already a multiple time MVP, like
he would watch every one of his snaps in the
off season and then go back and try to work

(36:15):
on things that he sawt Like they are just never done,
trying to get better, never finished, which is why they
are league MVPs and why the draft is such a projection.
You have no idea how they're going to develop.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
I do love, you know, and I'm sure I totally
trust the science of this and the biomechanics and all that.
I don't know that if you're not starting out with
Josh Allen, you're getting to MVP Josh Allen, maybe Ben
de Nucci try that, do the biomechanics stuff, do the
exact same regimen, and let's see. Let's see IV becomes

(36:53):
a starting NFL quarterback.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
For now we know.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
The other day he was drinking a beer at the
airport after getting cut again. He joined another show on
this network to talk about it earlier today.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Stick around.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
A lot of quarterbacks on the move through the course
of the past couple of days. Just check out this
list of the players with at least one career start
who's been cut or released since Monday. Another new one
that you can add to that list. The last name
you see there Taylor Heineke. The Chargers have now released Heinekey,
which is interesting because this comes at a time, as

(37:34):
we discussed earlier in the show, there are some teams
need a three they might even need a number two quarterback.
And now Taylor Heineke, who started a whole lot of
games going back to his days, most predominantly with the Commanders,
where let the record show one time he almost out
tooled Tom Brady in a playoff game. Yes, that's a
real thing that happened. Ben de Nucci had his own
moment in primetime making a start for the Cowboys. Since then,

(37:58):
d nuch has been on even name the number of
teams the Broncos for a while, most recently the Falcons
was released again over the weekend and tweeted from the airport.
Just got cut from the NFL for the seventh time.
The best beer of all, trust me, Danucci said, you
wouldn't understand he joined Good Morning Football to try to

(38:18):
help them understand.

Speaker 16 (38:21):
I tell people all the time, I'm no different than
anybody else. The only thing I can do is throw
a football sixty yards further than you. So I think
a lot of the times, you know, people people see
us on Sundays, and that's all you're seeing, right, You're
not seeing the human side of things. You're not seeing
We're just like everybody else. Right, you get fired from work,
you have a bad day at the office, whatever it is, right,
you know, cold one is good. Friendly situation and h

(38:42):
you know, if you can, if you can make light
of the situation, throw a little throw a little humor
at yourself.

Speaker 9 (38:46):
You know, I'm all for it.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
If you're wondering.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
No, Ben Denucci is not even close to the guy
who's been cut the most times at the quarterback position.
No surprise he gave anybody a guest. They probably say Johnson,
who did make the Commanders earlier today. He is on
that roster right now as the number three quarterback after
being released nineteen times previously. Danny Etling, I'm pretty sure

(39:11):
Ian tweeted about eight of those ten cuts. Garrett Gilbert,
Brian Hoyer among the players have been cut nine times,
Matt Barkley, Joe Callahan, Thad Lewis, Jake Luton and Steven Morris.
So Ben Denucci still some work to do, seven cuts,
just got to get through a couple more training camps
and in good news for him, a couple more beers.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Welcome back to the Insiders.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
Tom Pillicero, he and Rappaport, Judy Batista, Mike garofolo Ian.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
I'll start with you. You've ever been fired from a job?

Speaker 4 (39:44):
Never been fired? They get suspended ones, but never been fired.
But I can vouch for me. We got time report.
You know you're read about it. I can vouch for
the airport beer. Tom's not laughing. This is not a
fun not a laughing matter. I can vouch for the
airport beer.

Speaker 5 (39:59):
So when and now? I hosted the pot mcabee show
last week. My son Judu was with me at the airport.

Speaker 4 (40:03):
We stopped by the Delta Skylounge and he had a
cookie and it was like three o'clock in the afternoon.

Speaker 5 (40:08):
Not deserve time, and he had a cookie, and I was.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
Explaining to him that in the airport time doesn't exist.
So you want a cookie, you could have a cookie
even if it's not desert, you could have two cookies.

Speaker 5 (40:18):
You want a beer, not June but us. If you
want a beer, you.

Speaker 4 (40:21):
Could have a beer at seven am, ten am, three
in the morning.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
It is always time for beer in an airport.

Speaker 4 (40:28):
So Ben Denucci might be able to throw the ball
sixty yards further.

Speaker 5 (40:31):
Me, that's not true. He can probably throw it forty
yards further than me.

Speaker 4 (40:34):
But I do support his use of drinking a beer
whenever possible, even if you get fired for the seven time.

Speaker 7 (40:40):
Yeah, I don't know what you were saying. I was
just listening to you know, my own thoughts in my
own head, you know, thinking back to the memories that
you had.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
I've never been fired as well.

Speaker 7 (40:52):
I might be after this segment if I keep going
back to you talking about his years ago, it was
a close Never mind, have a good line. I'll keep
it to myself.

Speaker 8 (41:05):
What are we doing here? What is this segment? Can
you get in my ear? What am I supposed to
do here? Why am I talking?

Speaker 9 (41:11):
Judy? Your up?

Speaker 8 (41:12):
I don't even know what I'm doing here. No, I'm good.

Speaker 16 (41:15):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
I remember about Danny Ettling. Oh, I remember about Danny Ettling.

Speaker 7 (41:18):
Though I believe he had that many cuts because the
Patriots kept cutting him off the active roster and then
adding him back. They were had like a fifty fourth
spot on the roster. They were doing roster shenanigans. You
don't need the whole screen to see me do my
arm like that. But there were whole bunch of roster shenanigans,
which I believe they closed that loop, Paul.

Speaker 6 (41:33):
Since then, I am told in my ear that we
have a Saints reaction to Taylor Swift?

Speaker 2 (41:41):
Is that right?

Speaker 5 (41:43):
Pardon?

Speaker 14 (41:44):
We do.

Speaker 2 (41:48):
A great day?

Speaker 8 (41:50):
Oh, I say it, I got it now, very that's
pretty good.

Speaker 5 (41:56):
That's pretty good. Social media always kills it.

Speaker 4 (42:01):
You know what I was thinking about the way when
we were discussing this, how about the fact that Trey
Lance is the backup quarterback with the Chargers.

Speaker 5 (42:07):
That's kind of a I mean.

Speaker 4 (42:09):
For left for dead traded like total Flop has worked
themselves into backup quarterback for the Chargers.

Speaker 5 (42:16):
That's a cool thing. There you go.

Speaker 1 (42:20):
Well, in the fitting thing that happened on cutdown day.
Our music budget's been cut, so we have nothing to
play us out so here just listen to me breathing.
I'm talking seven eastern tomorrow we'll be back, we'll do better.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
See you
