Speaker 1 (00:07):
The Bengals have three big contract situations to figure out
this offseason. Trey, fittingly, probably the third of the bunch, said,
wait a minute, I don't know that there's enough money
to go around.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
So what do I do now?

Speaker 1 (00:21):
We will tell you coming up, and the annual Rite
of Passage in Dallas where they renegotiate all the contracts.
Don't worry, everybody's still getting all their money, but it
does free up some salary cap space for the Cowboys
to maneuver. What do they do with all the room
created by Dak Prescott and Cde Lamb. We'll talk about
that coming up. And we're just coming off the scouting

(00:42):
combine last week. Our Daniel Jeremiah has his top fifty
prospects three point zero. We set the over under at
like six and a half before the combine. He's almost
halfway there. We'll take a look at the latest list
of his top fifty. Ever, we're going to have one
of these prospects come up with us joining the show.
Welcome inside to Tom Pellisero's birthday party.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Judy Battista is invited.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Ian Rappaport has invited, Jane Slater, Sarah Waltz, Brian Baldinger
all invited.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Tom not invited.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
He's somewhere probably watching us. Is out Hi, Tom tweet
the program. Hope you're having a wonderful birthday. In the meantime,
we're going to talk about plenty of free agent cummings
and going. We've already got some players on the move,
including perhaps soon this guy Trey Hendrickson, the league's leading sacker,

(01:35):
given permission by the Bengals to seek a trade. He's
been looking for more money, frankly, be looking for money,
more money the last couple of years, but now coming
off this past season in which he led the league
in sacks, looking to score big and the Bengals saying,
we got to pay these wide receivers and a bunch
of other guys just not going to work out from
the talks that we've had to this point. So Hendrickson
given permission to seek a trade. Judy, maybe some folks surprised,

(02:00):
but some others around the league not so surprised, and
some others around league gon to be interested in trying
to trade for Trey Hendrickson for sure.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah, I mean, first let's acknowledge that everybody says that
Trey Hendrickson deserves a race. He has outplayed his contract,
but they have three contracts that have to get done.
They've already franchised tagged t Higgins, and so you knew
that as soon as they said they expected everybody to
be back, everybody else said, how are you going to

(02:30):
pay all those people? Well, the answer is they really
can't pay all those people top of market deals, and
that's what Trey Hendrickson is going to want. And we
saw where the past rusher market is going with Max
Crosby this week. Of course, Jamar Chase has to get
a top of the wide receiver market.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
He's probably going to.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Become the top paid non quarterback in the NFL whenever
that contract gets done. Trey Hendrickson is thirty years old.
He is the leading sacker in the league. He has
had very, very productive years with the Cincinnati Bengals. But
there's only so much money to go around in Cincinnati.
And so you knew when you were looking at these

(03:09):
three that if there was going to be an odd
man out, it was almost certainly going to be Trey Hendrickson.
That they would try to keep that offense intact for
Joe Burrow and so here we are. They've told Trey Hendrickson,
go out there and see what your market is, see
what the market for us would be in a trade,
and then come back to us. We'll see where this goes.

(03:29):
But it certainly seems like this is headed for a
split between Hendrickson and the Bengals.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
Yeah, that is exactly what I believe that it is
headed for split in Trainings, who was in the Bengals
office today talking to Bengals brass. Give them permission to
seek a trade, and I do expect him to get moved.
There's going to be significant interest. There has already been
significant interest. I would, of course keep an eye on
basically all the teams who would need one of the
best pass rousers in the NFL, which is basically all

(03:56):
of them. But among the teams, the Indianapolis Colts they'velean
a room. His former defensive coordinator last year with the
Cincinnati Bengals fired, went to the Colts. They need an edge.
This one makes a lot of sense. There's gonna be
plenty of other teams as well. But you're right. I
mean to me, this is the Bengals saying love Jo Anderson,
great player, His value is greater in a trade as

(04:18):
opposed to Jamar Chase t Higgins, where they've.

Speaker 6 (04:20):
Made some level of progress trying.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
To get them new deals. Their value is on the team.
Henderson's value is not. Put it all together, and that'll
be the bengalsher get on the field next season.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah, Trey Hendrickson at sixteen million on the books this season.
The pass rushers are making thirty eight forty. He's saying,
I had more sacks than all of them. I deserve
some kind of pay.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
What a picture. Ian, great job picking this one page
breaking news A short while ago.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Bobby Wagner pack with the Washington Commanders eight million dollars
guaranteed up to nine and a half. Bobby Wagner has
done a great job as his own agent, and he's
done a great job as a linebacker. Kenny Gainwell will
tell you that right there in that photo. He continues
his future Hall of Fame NFL career. Probably Joey Bosa.

(05:06):
He was informed by the Los Angeles Chargers that he
is out. Yes, it frees up twenty five point three
to six million in salary cap space.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
We've talked about.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
It, Ian, you mentioned it, the possibility of him joining
his brother out there, and look, maybe he's back with
the Chargers on a lower number. We shall see Joey
Bosa going to explore his market. Ian start with you
on this one. Joey Bosa headed to the free agent
market for the first time.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
Well, first of all, the door is not shut on
the Chargers. The money was not going to happen. And
remember this is the second straight year took a little
at his contract where this is not going to happen.
Last year redid his deal, as did Khalil Mack by
the way, they ended up coming together and then they
both returned. This year it's released. So for the first time,
he's going to go out. He's going to be a
free agent. He's going to look at several options, including

(05:55):
the forty nine ers, including back with the Chargers, including like,
maybe I just want to play for this team that's
a playoff team, and I'm not worried about the money.

Speaker 6 (06:03):
Joey Bose has made so much money.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
He's made over one hundred million dollars, so much money,
this would be a time for him to go all right,
I'm just gonna go try to win a Super Bowl,
or go play with my brother or do whatever he wants.
He's been in the league for a long time. He
has been one of the absolute best on.

Speaker 6 (06:20):
The edge, Judy. He has earned the right to say
I'd like to have some say and where I go.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
He's earned the right to pick whatever team he wants
to pick up. Finally, he gets to be a free agent.
Keep in mind he has been limited quite a bit
by injuries in the last few years, but he is
still very effective when he plays. But the last full
season that he played was twenty nineteen, when he played
every game of the season.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
That's a long time ago. He's only played.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Trying to remember what the number is, I think twenty
eight games of the last fifty one games that the
Chargers played, So that's not much. The question is can
he stay on the field. Certainly will be interested in
him though, because again, when he is on the field,
he can still produce. It's just going to have to
be in the right circumstance and they're going to have
to manage him.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
You're on it, Judy.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Twenty three games in excuse me, twenty eight games in
the last three years. Only played three full seasons in
his first nine years with the Chargers, but did play
fourteen last year, which was the most he had played
since twenty twenty one. We'll see what happens with Bosa.
Will keep an eye on that for you, and we'll
keep an eye on these guys. Right here, it says
the top ten available free agents, you're gonna get one

(07:33):
more for the money here apparently how do we get
to eleven?

Speaker 7 (07:38):
But whatever?

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Anyway, Sam Donald is.

Speaker 6 (07:41):
Well, there's no three Mikes three.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
There's no three.

Speaker 8 (07:43):
Yeah, there's no three.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
I assume Zach Bond missed the top ten available ian
Zach Bond is off.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
There you go, So top ten available, right.

Speaker 6 (07:54):
Not available anymore?

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Right, fun with math.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Let's talk about Sam Donald and so it might happen there.
He was not tagged by the Vikings. There was some
chatter that perhaps that he would wind up back in
Minnesota on a short term deal.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
That has not happened yet.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
It is still possibly in the cards here, Sam Donald
and the Viking's going to continue to talk, but at
some point he's going to get the chance to talk
to other teams if he gets to that negotiating period.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Duty right, I mean, right now, Sam Donald has to
be thinking what is the best path for him? Is
it better to go to free agency and see what
his market is and start somewhere else, Or is it
better to stick with the Vikings where he had a
career renaissance surrounded by tremendous wide receivers, great coaching staff

(08:38):
that got the most out of him. Is that better?
Or is he done with having prove it seasons? I mean,
he just had a prove it season. Does he want
to go out there and finally be the man somewhere
else without JJ McCarthy or somebody else looking over his shoulder.
That's the decision that Sam Donald has to make. Certainly,
if he gets to free agency, there are plenty of teams,

(08:59):
as we know, need quarterbacks.

Speaker 5 (09:02):
That's really a fascinating thing to think about, Judy, because
obviously the Vikings have basically said they would like Sam
Donald back. It's going to be less than the franchise tag,
but still they would like him back in the manageable
number they can build the team around him.

Speaker 6 (09:15):
But this is not unprecedented, but there's.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
Not a lot of precedent because they'd like to bring
back a starter who is a free agent, who, as
they've said, is earned the right to be a free agent.
But if he comes back. JJ McCarthy, who they really like,
is right there. So if Donald hods him, holds him
off during training camp, they'll have to split the reps.
They'll go into the season and everyone will know if
one quarterback falters, whoever wins, the other one is right there.

(09:39):
That is a tough situation for both of these guys.
Donald is an absolute pro and handled it incredibly last year,
having really a career year, but JJ McCarthy wasn't out
there last year. The Vikings are going to try to
do the absolute best they can with two quarterbacks. They
really really like hold off on putting JJ out.

Speaker 6 (09:57):
There just this one year. They can do it. They
are very very good. There's a little bit of a
challenge here to make it happen.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Yeah, the Vikings started to work on contingency plans last
year when they brought in Daniel Jones. He is one
of the potential contingency plans if Darnold goes elsewhere. But
Daniel Jones could have some other opportunities as well, so
Vike he's kind of balancing all this.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
We'll see how it shakes out. Daniel Jones.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Speaking of him, he used to play for the Giants
alongside this guy, Tommy DeVito. He is the only Giants
quarterback under contract, an exclusive rights free agent.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
The Giants re upping him on a one year deal.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
The question is who else is going to be in
that quarterback room alongside him.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Aaron Rodgers is a candidate.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Aaron Rodgers and the Giants can communicate, can speak. There
has been communication between the sides. That much has been clear.
Nothing appears to be imminent at this point. The Giants
also have some other options as well, as we'll see
what they're going to wind up doing in the draft
as well.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
I don't know, Judy, I'm kind of rooting for it.
I think it would be fun. I mean, the Rogers
thing didn't work out with the Jets. We're in the
New York market. Ian's in the New York market. Bring
on some more.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Why not, let's do it. Listen.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
When this first started bubbling up that there might be
mutual interest between these two, at first, I thought like what,
But then when you stop and think about it, like
it's not the worst possibility for the New York Giants
and certainly not the worst possibility for Aaron Rodgers. I mean,
the pickings are pretty slim out there. There are not
a ton of options if you want a veteran quarterback

(11:33):
to be what will now be a bridge guy. And
if Aaron Rodgers goes to the Giants, the mandate is
much different than when he went to the Jets. When
he went to the Jets, he was be the final piece,
be the franchise savior. Let's go win a Lombardi Trophy.
If he goes to the New York Giants is yeah,
we need to win some games, because they certainly need
to win some games at the New York Giants, but

(11:55):
we also need you to be the bridge to the
future guy.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Whoever. That is.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
So, even if they saw Aaron Rodgers, they have to
draft somebody.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
They have to get a young quarterback in there to
get ready for the future.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
This idea is growing on me, aside from the fact
that it would just give us stuff to talk about
for another year.

Speaker 6 (12:14):
I kind of like it, I really do.

Speaker 5 (12:16):
I mean, if you believe that Aaron Rodgers is the
best is the best quarterback out there, and look, he's
a four time MVP who's going to be a first
ballot Hall of Famer. So wherever he is health wise,
Billo get his stats last year?

Speaker 6 (12:28):
Was he perfect?

Speaker 5 (12:28):
No, the team was bad. Everything was bad. Everything on
the Jets was bad. But he is he better than
Sam Darnold? You might argue, maybe he is? Is he
better than Russell Wilson?

Speaker 6 (12:39):
Sure he is? Is he better than all the other options?
He probably is?

Speaker 5 (12:42):
And so if you're the New York Giants, you say,
all right, what are we dealing with? We have the
best quarterback that we could possibly get. Versus he's on
the Pat McAfee show once a week. Okay, that's annoying
for reporters. I don't think pr really cares, but it's
annoying for reporters who have to watch it. He likes
things a certain ways, very good. Sometimes he talks about

(13:02):
plant medicine. Okay, that's really not a big deal. That's
actually becoming more popular in our society. What would be
there for the Giants to not take the best quarterback available.
I think where you're starting to find why is everybody laughing?
I think what you're starting to find is the Giants
may be like, you.

Speaker 6 (13:16):
Know what, this makes sense to us too.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
No, it was great, annalysis, it was awesome. I like
how you went down the checklist of everything that comes
with bedding. Aaron Rodgers, what's up, birthday boy? How you doing.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
I'm sorry, I don't mean to be like Evan Ingram
got celebrating comes birthday, but Evan Ingram hitting out another game.

Speaker 6 (13:36):
Hey, Mike, can I interrupt you for a second. Mike,
you know what this is like.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
This is like when Mohammed Wilkerson had a birthday party
and he didn't show up for it, when the Jets
building and you broke that story.

Speaker 6 (13:45):
This is literally just like that, except on the Insiders
they had.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
A cake for Mohammed Wilkerson. We got to get a
cake by the end of the show. Anyway, Evan Ingram.
Evan Ingram released. Don't worry, He's going to get another job.
He will be highly sought after as a pass catcher.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
See this is how it can happen right this quickly.
Christian Kirk was gonna get cut.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
The Texans jumped in and said, no, no, no, we'll take
him in the division. Fine, whatever, here's our seventh round pick.
A year from now, Christian Kirk heads to Houston. They
lost Tank Dell to a significant knee injury. Tank Dell
just had surgery yesterday, so they needed help with that
receiving core Los step On Diggs as well. In comes
Christian Kirk. Where is Cooper Cupp gonna wind up? Never mind,

(14:25):
I get to that in a second. I got another
Rams thing first two two at Well, a one year,
ten million dollars, fully guaranteed deal that Ian reported earlier today. Yes,
fully guaranteed, five million signing bonus guaranteed. Also the base
salary guaranteed as well. A lot of raised eyebrows around
the league, But our Peter Scheger on a group there
was like, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
They love two to two.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
At Well with the Rams, and they proved it with
that signing right there. Speaking of Cooper Cup, Lesnie the
general manager, speaking to the media saying he is more
likely to be elsewhere than back with the Rams. Remember
they gave him permission to seek a trade. I don't
know if this winds up with a trade or his
outright release eventually, and then he's got the free agent

(15:06):
market to deal with, at which point I do believe
he will have a market. Ian will start with you
on Cooper Cup where you think this is going to
wind up?

Speaker 6 (15:15):
Yeah, I'm kind of with you on this. I mean, look,
the Rams have been very open.

Speaker 5 (15:18):
Cooper Cup's been very open about him being available for
a trade contract a lot twenty million dollars, and the
Rams have said privately that they're willing to pick up
the seven point five whatever it is million dollars.

Speaker 6 (15:29):
That they could do.

Speaker 5 (15:30):
That they could eat some of the salary make it
more palable to trade. The question is would somebody still
want to trade for him, and then for them, is
it worth paying that seven point five million dollars versus
the draft pick that they would get in the event
they trade him. It seems to me more likely than
not that it's headed for a release.

Speaker 6 (15:47):
Someone could trade for him. This could happen. It could
be literally.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
Happen as I'm talking, But that's what it seems. And
for Cooper Cup, like, he's not going to make twenty
million anyway, so him being free is really not a
terrible thing at all. He's veteran receiver, He's got plenty left,
He's not going to be that expensive. He's already made money.
He's one at the highest level. This could be somewhat
a great free agent acquisition. I just would be surprised

(16:12):
if it ended up.

Speaker 6 (16:13):
In a trade. I'll say that.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Right, it seems unlikely at this point that there will
be a trade and that he is going to be released. Remember,
he has had injuries over the last few years and
his production has declined, but he's still a really experienced
receiver who has won at the highest level. Is he
dk Metcalf at this point in his career.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
No, he's not.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
But there will certainly be teams that want him, because again,
there are lots of teams that need wide receivers. Whether
they are one receivers or two or three receivers, they
need them. And it's not a great draft class for receivers.
It's not really a great right now free agent class
for receivers.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
Cooper couple have a market.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
I feel like we spent a lot of time this
time of year talking about restructures and trying to explain
to people that Dak Prescott didn't take less money and
Cede Lamb didn't take less money. They just kind of
moved money around to give the team cap space. So
it's really not that big of a deal, except it
is that big of a deal because without this, the
Dallas Cowboys wouldn't have any cap space and we'd have
no reason to talk about them, except this is where

(17:15):
we are right now.

Speaker 6 (17:16):
So let's bring in our.

Speaker 5 (17:17):
Good friend Jane Slater, who lives in Dallas, the pulse
of Dallas, so many things of Dallas.

Speaker 6 (17:24):
Hi, Jane, of course, with Judie Batista here as well.

Speaker 5 (17:27):
Jane tell us all about these restructures of Dak Prescott
and Cedee Lamb and why they had to do it.

Speaker 9 (17:35):
Look, I think a lot of the frustration from the
fans and some of the apathy was setting in when
you didn't see the Cowboys doing that much in free
agency or restructuring some of these deals and getting things
done ahead of training camp last year in the draft,
and of course that put them in a precarious situation
when it came to.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Filling out the roster.

Speaker 9 (17:53):
It's how they found themselves in a running back by
committee situation.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
I don't get the.

Speaker 9 (17:57):
Sense they're going to do running back by committee this year.
I think they're going to be smarter in their approach
of that. But by restructuring the deals of Dak Prescott
and Ceedee Lamb, they've essentially given themselves fifty six million
dollars in cat space. Does that mean that they're going
to be active in the free agent market, and we
start this thing on Monday.

Speaker 10 (18:16):
Not necessarily now.

Speaker 9 (18:17):
Steven Jones got a lot of fans excited when he
was at the combine and said they were going to
be selectively aggressive, But they also talked about the fact, look,
just because you've got names like Cooper, Cup and you
know a couple of the wide receivers out there that
I'm sure the Cowboy fans would love to see on
this roster. The Cowboys have shown in years past, just
because you add some of these free agents, it doesn't

(18:38):
necessarily translate into success.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Now.

Speaker 9 (18:41):
I would argue the Amari Cooper move a couple of
years ago, which wasn't during free agency, was during the season,
really did help this team. But then Jerry sort of
what blanketed this by saying he wasn't looking to free
agency to fill the void. So hard to see exactly
what they are doing, but they've at least given themselves
some wiggle room so that, as Jerry put it, people

(19:01):
can call them.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
Now, but they don't have to.

Speaker 9 (19:05):
I think at least during the draft per se have
to draft a particular player as a result of not
having some of the money to approach this thing in
free agency.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
All right, one thing they need all that cap space
for is the contract. We're all keeping our eyes on MICHAEH.
Parsons deal whenever that happens this offseason. We did see
a very big contract for Max Crosby this week. How
is that going to impact things with Micah?

Speaker 9 (19:34):
Well, Cowboy fans aren't going to like hearing this, but
it's not impacting their sense of urgency, so to speak.
Remember last year I had a fun, spirited conversation with
Jerry Jones and that led to his comment about waiting
for the leaves to fall. It sounds like they're, I
don't know the word to describe, is waiting for the
leaves to fall. But they're not in a rush necessarily

(19:56):
to go out there and do any pruning right now.
It's my understanding they are working with Micah Parsons agent.
They are talking, but it doesn't sound like they're close
to anything yet, so they're still navigating this deal. I
do think it's interesting when you start looking at some
of the defensive ends that are looking for trades that
are getting released, it's going to be I think intriguing

(20:17):
to see how that actually affects this Micah Parsons deal
right now. Obviously Max Crosby set the market. I think
that's obviously going to be a jumping point to where
we're starting to talk about Micah Parsons. The Cowboys now
do have that cab space, and Micah Parsons has made
it very very clear that he wants to be here
in Dallas, and I know that Jerry is a huge
fan of Micah Parsons. He has been no stranger to

(20:39):
telling all of that.

Speaker 10 (20:40):
In the media when he gets the chance. It's just
they're working through that.

Speaker 9 (20:44):
But it doesn't seem like there's a rush or a
sense of urgency based on the conversations that I've had
with the Cowboys.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
And if you're Michah Parsons, Jane, you think you are
the best of them, and he has obviously very confident
and has the resume for it.

Speaker 6 (20:57):
Waiting actually helps because then he can come in hire bulls.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
We'll see each deal kind of takes their own time
and we'll see where it ends up.

Speaker 6 (21:03):
Jane, thank you.

Speaker 5 (21:04):
Very much, as always, always enjoy you hanging out with us. Meanwhile,
in Indianapolis, everybody was fast. The whole combine was fast.
It was like the fastest combine I've ever seen. I
knew it was faster than all of them. Ba shal Tutin.
Do you want to hear from him? He's coming up
next on the Insiders. We'll learn why he's so fast.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
That is, you better, You better not blake Man, You're
gonna miss him. Base Shall Tuton, the Virginia Tech running
back who ran a four three two forty at the
Scouting Combine, the fastest time amongst the running backs here
in twenty twenty five at the combine. If you don't
believe me, we had a whole board ready to go.
I think we're gonna show it eventually as we bring

(21:54):
him up here, Base Shaff Tuton joining me, Mike Garrafall
and Brian Baldinger Base Shall. It's got to be the
goal of every running back, every skill position guy to
go into the combine and say I am going to
be the fastest at my position.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
You accomplish that.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
I had some guys tell me scouts had you in
the four tunes on some of their handheld timers right there.
So did that time match up with what you expected
to do going in? And how does it feel to
be the fastest running back to.

Speaker 11 (22:21):
Combon uh yeah, I think coming in my target time
what I want to you know, accomplish me and my
coach and my agents. You know, it was a long process,
you know, training for the Combine, but I felt pretty good.
Run the same numbers that I produced at the Combine
and it feels great.

Speaker 8 (22:37):
So you know, put all that work in the five
days off.

Speaker 7 (22:40):
See, it's one thing pacial to run that in Indianapolis
on that track. But when I go back and I
watch your game, say against Boston College this year, and
you break loose f that eighty three yard touchdown run
against the Eagles, I knew you were fast when you
never looked to the side, just say, anybody who's going
to catch you? You knew what's that balls in your hand?

(23:02):
You sold the goal line. Everybody was catching you. Like
that's real track speed right there.

Speaker 8 (23:07):
Yeah, yeah, I definitely thought the same.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
You trained with Pete, You trade with Pete bomb Rito
down there in Florida.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
Correct that the Bambrito Speed School.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
He's trained some of the greatest athletes that we have
seen in the NFL. From what I understand, he believes
you were like top five athletes of dudes he's ever trained.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
When you hear that.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
How much confidence does that give you knowing that you're
heading into the NFL. Uh and you've got that talent
to put it on display.

Speaker 8 (23:38):
That's a real confidence booster.

Speaker 11 (23:39):
Like you said, he worked with you know, tons of
you know, big names, you know, in all levels of sports.
So just being like you said, top five definitely means
a lot because he's been around for you know, twenty
plus years and he's seen a lot. So just sticking
out into that aspect definitely feels great.

Speaker 7 (24:00):
Pachel. We have an actual an overlay of we have
real technology here on this program. We have you going
up against sa Quan and Jamiir Gibbs and who would
win the race. I don't know if you had a
chance to watch this in Indianapolis this weekend.

Speaker 8 (24:16):
Yeah, I saw that. I saw that. It was neat.
That's pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
That's pretty cool, right, break it down? Yeah, break it down?
You got you got? Can we see that again?

Speaker 1 (24:25):
Because I would you got one of the two of
the better running backs that you've got in the NFL
right now.

Speaker 11 (24:32):
I mean, I mean the graphics shows itself just pierced, beed.
You know, they're doing a great job. You know, in
the league now and I'm just you know, looking at
for all their footsteps. They have a lot, you know,
a lot more aspects to football than you know, just
the forty.

Speaker 8 (24:45):
So they're great players.

Speaker 11 (24:47):
And yeah, I ran a fast time, but you know,
I'm just you know, ready to come in and you know,
just produce on different levels of.

Speaker 8 (24:54):
Just the forty.

Speaker 7 (24:56):
Well go back just the forty for one second here,
basical because I'm I'm curious. It looked like you got
an electric start, Like I don't think you can run
a four three two without a great start. How much
did you work just on that, just on the start
coming out of the blocks.

Speaker 8 (25:11):
A lot.

Speaker 11 (25:11):
I'll probably say that's the main thing that Pete works
on when we get there starts, because that's the you know,
make a break. Like you said, you can't run a
four to three without a good start. So we you know,
we harped on that every day. We had a lot
of drills, power sweep drills and you know, fast twitching
drills to you know, work on that form coming out
on the start. So it's a it's a big part

(25:32):
of Pete program and you know, just taking the time
to you know develop that. It definitely worked for me.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
Now, look, the forty is is the sexy thing when
it comes to the combine and you're you're the fastest guy.
We've been talking speed speat speed, speed speed. I heard
you said you believe your superpower is your speed. But
if you look at your tape, there's some power, there's
some scrappiness. I think I saw that on our NFL
dot Com scouting profile of you. Scrappiness was a word

(25:59):
that was if you're telling people that you're more than
just speed, what would you tell them about your game
and what you're bringing.

Speaker 8 (26:05):
To the NFL level.

Speaker 11 (26:07):
Aggression as well, play with power and force. I'm not
just a you know, a running back with speed. They
like to run around the edges. I like to run
in between the tackles and I like contact a lot.
So I don't just you know, run out of bounds easy.
I fight for every last yard and that's how I
primed my game.

Speaker 7 (26:24):
Well, Bachel, going back to your days at North Carolina
A and T and then at Virginia Tech, I mean
I saw ninety one catches on your resume. I mean
coming out of the backfield, the screen game, the checkdown game.
I mean I think you can put that on your resume,
that I'm a three down back, like you need me
on the field and third down.

Speaker 8 (26:42):
Yeah, I would agree with that.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Listen, you've got some meetings coming up with teams.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
I heard you got a top thirty visit already on
the calendar. Not going to say who it is because
we don't want to let that be known now. One
of these teams kind of keep it to themselves, but
they're going to find out enough here. How's your interaction
with NFL teams been, I mean, what are some of
the great moments that you remember from your meetings with
teams at the Scouting Combine?

Speaker 11 (27:09):
The whole process been good, you know, meet with teams
that you know the combine and then a Senior Bowl game.

Speaker 8 (27:15):
I'll definitely experience.

Speaker 11 (27:16):
Get to talk to a lot of you know a
lot of scouts people of the staff. So it was
a great feeling, you know, just creating that relationship and
just getting know, you know, different teams, different guys to
you know, further, my journey is kind of where, you know,
the biggest thing I like about it.

Speaker 7 (27:33):
May sure we're you're just at the beginning of this
whole journey to the NFL. And hopefully a very long
and lucative career. But we saw sort of the return
of the factor back in the NFL this year, led
by Sakuan but Derrick, Henry, Josh Jacobs. Do you feel
like it's it's the running back is coming back. It's
going to be the feature and a lot of offenses

(27:54):
right now. Just coming into this business right now.

Speaker 8 (27:57):
Yeah, I think I'm coming at the perfect time.

Speaker 11 (28:00):
You know, the stock Ford backs are going up, you know,
like you said, multiple great performances this year. I think
they put the league and notice that, you know, the
running backs. Uh, we're being underappreciated. But you know, like
what Saquon did definitely, I know he just resigned his contract,
but he's just putting us on the map again. So
it's come out at this time we know the stock
is rising for us. Is definitely great.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Yeah, all right, bay shall tooting, Uh listening talk to
people about this guy.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
They say he's he's.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
All ball, right, he's all about football. And then maybe
a little gaming on the set. What your what's your
game of choice these days?

Speaker 11 (28:35):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (28:35):
These days I play call it duty a lot. I
like playing that.

Speaker 11 (28:39):
I hop on with the guys back home and we
just you know, played for an hour or two just
having a good time.

Speaker 8 (28:45):
It's a competitive game, so.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
So find him in two places, on the Great Iron
or in call of duty. I know I'm not a
big gamer these days, but I know you can play
with one another on the call of duty for sure. Listen,
bay Shall, we appreciate you. We look forward to you
showing that speed and the scrappiness on the NFL level.
I'm not going to forget about that part, facial. We
appreciate you joining us. Good luck through the draft process.

(29:08):
You're welcome on the in Saturday anytime.

Speaker 8 (29:10):
Thank you. I appreciate you for having me.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
Bucks wide receiver Chris Godwin was off to a blazing
start last season before he suffered a very serious ankle
injury that ended his season.

Speaker 4 (29:22):
It was also really rough.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
Timing because he is scheduled to become a free agent
in a few days. He is actually the number one
ranked wide receiver on our very own Greg Rosenthal's list
of the top one hundred and one free agents, although
all of those one hundred one are not free agents
anymore anyway. Here's Sarah Walsh joining me and Ian Rappaport.

(29:44):
Let's talk about Chris Godwin first, Sarah, realistically, what are
the chances that he returns to the Bucks.

Speaker 12 (29:51):
Well, if you go by just the Buck's recent history,
that would tell you that it's very realistic. We see
Chris Godwin in a Bucks uniform once again. I'll go
back to that Super run and when they wanted all
Bruce Arians stood on the stage at the Super Bowl
parade afterwards and said they're all coming back, and he
would say it about every guy and for the most part,
barring and Alex Kappa who left, Jordan Whitehead Lucky then

(30:12):
came back.

Speaker 10 (30:12):
But they're really big names.

Speaker 12 (30:14):
The Bucks and Jason Light in that front office have
done an incredible job of keeping these guys in Tampa.

Speaker 10 (30:19):
We saw it with Mike Evans a year ago.

Speaker 12 (30:21):
He obviously had some opportunities to go somewhere else, So
I think, you know, maybe that's because people here are
spoiled in the Tampa Bay arey area thinking the stars
stay here, and they get them to stay. But it's
also obviously very alluring for Chris to stay here. This
is the only team that he has known. Him and
Mike Evans have been one of the most productive duos
in the NFL and in recent history, and he likes

(30:42):
Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 10 (30:43):
They have a good thing going.

Speaker 12 (30:44):
If Chris Godwin were to leave, the Bucks would hope
that Jalen McMillan, who was a rookie last year, would
step up and take a bigger role. But then after
that they would be thin. So there's no question how
much the Bucks would like.

Speaker 10 (30:54):
To retain him.

Speaker 12 (30:55):
I think the only question mark with this entire scenario is,
and you brought it up at the top here, he's
going to be in high demand and Judy that is,
even with the injury that he sustained. Nobody knows better
than the Buccaneers how hard this guy works, how much
he has been in rehab in the weight room, And
I don't think there's any doubt in their mind they're
going to see a Chris Godwin who's going to give
it everything he has once he steps foot on the field.

(31:16):
They're going to try to make it very hard for
him to leave the Tampa Bay area. But Ian, as
you know, there's some teams that could come call in
with some really really big paychecks.

Speaker 5 (31:26):
I mean it's a kind of a rough receiver market
and free agency. Everybody wants Chris Godwin. He is going
to do very well, whether in Tampa or whether really
anywhere else in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (31:36):
A little bit of breaking news for us, Sarah Walsh.

Speaker 5 (31:38):
You are hosting tomorrow she is football weekend, segment, ceremony, event,
whatever one might call it, total summon.

Speaker 6 (31:49):
Educate us on what you're doing. A summit. There you go,
a summit. Educate us it is.

Speaker 10 (31:54):
She is football summit.

Speaker 12 (31:55):
And really all of this is all props to Darcy
Glazer Cassowitz, the Buccaneer owner, because she has been a
massive champion of women's causes, in amplifying women's voices and
not only just our community, but across the country and
when it comes to women's coaches. So she's really this
is her brain child that she has put together and
it kicks off. International Women's Day is Saturday, so they're

(32:17):
celebrating all weekend, but starting tomorrow.

Speaker 10 (32:19):
This is a sold out event at Raymond James Stadium.

Speaker 12 (32:22):
They are expecting eight hundred women are going to be there.
They will have the opportunity to network, to learn from
leaders from all over the country, especially in our community.
I'm hosting the event, but I'm also serving as a mentor,
Chris A. Thompson, Aaron Andrews. They're going to do a
live podcast. They have a podcast. They're going to come
in and do a ninety minute podcast with this huge audience.
And then on Saturday there's a five K they're turning

(32:44):
the Buccaneers indoor facility into a women's owned marketplace by
women's own businesses.

Speaker 10 (32:50):
And that's just like a sample of what they're doing.

Speaker 12 (32:52):
They've got a flag football tournament going on for girls.

Speaker 10 (32:55):
So again, this is all.

Speaker 12 (32:56):
Darcy Blazer Cassowitz and what a way to kick off
International Women's Day on SATA.

Speaker 10 (33:01):
Well we're kicking it off tomorrow.

Speaker 12 (33:02):
We're celebrating all we week in, but there's going to
be a lot of learning and awesome opportunities tomorrow for
women in our area.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Shout out to Darcy for all the work she has done,
and shout out to you Sarah for your job hosting.
Thank you very much for joining the Insiders and giving
us a preview of that.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Daniel Jeremiah, known to his friends, has moved the sticks
on social media. He released his three point zero version
of his Top fifty prospects. Aston genty, the Boise State
running back number three overall, He says, Genty is a
fun player to study. He is a short, compact runner
with incredible strength, balance and burst. He says, he's a
mixture of I'm not going to tell you who. You

(33:43):
got to read it. Click that link right down the
bottom there to figure out which two pro running backs
he compares genty two. Meantime, here is Genty with our
Kimmey checks at the.

Speaker 13 (33:53):
Combine running back for Boise State. We got Ashton Genty
in the house. Welcome to Indianapolis. How's your week beend here.

Speaker 14 (34:02):
At the Corn?

Speaker 8 (34:02):
It's been amazing.

Speaker 15 (34:03):
You know, I'm just enjoying everything about it, you know,
meeting everybody, you know, going through the interviews. Man, it's
a dream come true to be here.

Speaker 13 (34:11):
Now today's there's a ton of people and you have
like a little fan section, a crowd people cheering for you.

Speaker 14 (34:17):
Does that get old at all.

Speaker 13 (34:19):
Seeing the fanfare that's come along knowing you had an
incredible last season?

Speaker 8 (34:23):
No, I mean it never gets old.

Speaker 5 (34:25):
You know.

Speaker 8 (34:25):
That's what you do.

Speaker 15 (34:25):
It forward to inspire and you know the level of
influence that I have is on the younger generation is amazing.

Speaker 14 (34:33):
Now let's talk about Boise state.

Speaker 13 (34:34):
You're unanimous All American, the first ever in school history.
But you did have an opportunity to go in the
transfer portal and go make some nil money elsewhere, but
you stayed.

Speaker 14 (34:44):
Why is that?

Speaker 15 (34:45):
I mean, first of all, when they hired coach Danielson,
I knew he was the perfect guy for the job.
I love him. I wanted to play for him and
nobody else. And then you know, I had other schools
offering me money. But you know, money isn't everything. You know,
I had great relationships with my guys on the team,
my coaches, and most importantly, I was going to develop

(35:06):
into a great running back.

Speaker 8 (35:07):
And you know, we've seen that happen this year.

Speaker 14 (35:09):
We did see that happen. I love this one.

Speaker 13 (35:12):
Your twenty six hundred rushing yards was more than one
hundred and fifteen teams in the FBS one hundred and fifty.

Speaker 14 (35:19):
That's like insane.

Speaker 8 (35:20):
Yeah, that is pretty crazy.

Speaker 14 (35:21):
Are you proud of yourself?

Speaker 2 (35:23):
Very, very very proud.

Speaker 15 (35:25):
You know what I was able to accomplish this past season.
It's amazing. Sometimes I look back and I don't even
know how I was able to do all that.

Speaker 13 (35:33):
Do you ever go back to the military base in Italy.

Speaker 14 (35:38):
I asked that because.

Speaker 13 (35:39):
A lot of people may not know that's actually where
you learn to play football.

Speaker 14 (35:43):
Can you talk about that a little bit.

Speaker 15 (35:44):
Yeah, so I haven't been back since I lived there,
but you know, I spent three years out there, and
I played on the varsity team as a freshman. Right,
so for about a year and a half, I wasn't
playing football. I just kind of had to practice, you know,
keep getting better on my own. But once I started
playing running back there and you know, I really learned
how good I could be, and you know, I started

(36:05):
to really develop a passion for the game of football.

Speaker 14 (36:08):
I'm sure all Italy.

Speaker 13 (36:09):
Is like, that's our guys.

Speaker 14 (36:11):
We're rooting for him. We got to end it on
a fun note too.

Speaker 13 (36:15):
I mean the tiktoks, he got a little swash, he
got a little dance.

Speaker 14 (36:20):
I should have practiced. I should have practiced. You ready
to bring this swag to the to the end zone
in the NFL?

Speaker 2 (36:25):
Of course?

Speaker 15 (36:25):
You know, touchdown selly's are a big part of the game,
right And you know me, I love to dance.

Speaker 8 (36:31):
I love to have fun.

Speaker 14 (36:32):
Do you think he'll be dancing on draft night when
your name's called?

Speaker 8 (36:34):
Almost definitely.

Speaker 15 (36:35):
Like when I go up on that stage with Roger,
I'm gonna make sure we hit a dance together.

Speaker 13 (36:39):
Oh are you calling out, commissioner ahead of time? Any
dances he needs to practice?

Speaker 15 (36:44):
It depends on what city I get drafted to. But
you know, whatever dance is popular thered be ready to
hit it with me. That's all I gotta all.

Speaker 13 (36:50):
Right, Commissioner, make sure you get on TikTok and get
prepared for that moment ashing congratulations on everything this last season.

Speaker 14 (36:56):
We're rooting for you in best of left ahead of
the draft.

Speaker 8 (36:58):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
He is gonna make boss Man dance, and I am
here for it.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
This is where our mock drafters say.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
That dance will occur, with three of them saying it's
gonna be the Dallas Cowboys who can use help at
the running back position. Charles Cynthi Atlance on board there,
while Bucky Brooks says he's gonna last to twenty and
DJ twenty one. I'm skeptical, don't think he lasts that long.
Let's move him up, boys. Brian Baldinger here to tell
us whether he thinks Ashton Gent's gonna last that long.

(37:31):
Give us the baldy breakdown on Ashton Genty.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Look at him these.

Speaker 7 (37:35):
Fight Wait, Mike, are we just gonna ignore those biceps
on Auston Genty?

Speaker 14 (37:40):
I mean those things like, I mean, you talk about.

Speaker 7 (37:44):
Sonout guns out. That was ridiculous, But that's what he's built.

Speaker 8 (37:48):
Like.

Speaker 7 (37:48):
I mean, I'll say this, he is as much fun
to study as any player in this draft, for sure,
and maybe as much fun as anybody that's done in
the last couple of years. I mean, he's literally Steph
Curry with the ball in his hand. You just don't
know what you're gonna see. You're gonna see spins, You're
gonna see contact downs, You're gonna see effort, You're gonna
see just trucking guys. But I mean, I've got a

(38:10):
little bit of tape here to kind of talk about it.
But he is a special That's his stands too, you know,
I Mean he stands straight up. He's only five to
eight and a half, but he is powerful and he's
a home run hitter. So you don't know where he's
gonna do it. But he'ses guys writ in the phone
booth and he makes a miss constantly, and he just
comes through the soup. I mean there's coffee grinds and

(38:31):
eight shells.

Speaker 14 (38:32):
He runs right.

Speaker 7 (38:32):
Through it, and you know, his eyes are always up.

Speaker 14 (38:36):
This is what I'm talking about.

Speaker 7 (38:37):
This is fun to watch. And he smells the goal
line and oh, by the way, he takes a little
bit of blood in every single run. Everybody that tries
to hit him like he's just drawn a little blood.
I mean, he's a special, special player. I don't know
they can get out of the top ten. He's gonna be.
He's gonna go quick in this draft.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
Well, we've seen running backs get back into that top
ten and back into the conversation to be selected there.
So we'll see if that winds up happening. Got another one.
I want to ask you about Mason Taylor, the tight
end from LSU. Your thoughts on Mason here.

Speaker 7 (39:17):
I love, I love. I mean, he's just a natural
route runner. He's got a glide about him. He kind
of reminds you where's number eighty six? He played with
Jayden Daniels last year in twenty twenty three. Kind of
reminded me of Zach Kertz. But he's got some Travis
Kelcey to him too. Now catches everything with his hands.
Very smooth route runner and what you see constantly, and

(39:38):
you can't really see it in this drill here, Mike,
but when the quarterback is in trouble, whether it was
Neosmyer this year, fellas you or Jayden Daniels last year, man,
he's going to go get in the passing lane of
the quarterback and come back to the football. I think
he just to the football really well. I mean he
runs all the tight end routes, these drag routes like this,
the stick routes, the delays, all of these right here.

(40:02):
He's just got a natural ability come back to the ball,
naturally come back to the ball, not let the defensive
back get it. This catch against Alabama was just right
in the scene. It's a beautiful catch. Just his reach
at six five, two hundred and fifty five pounds. You
constantly see him stretch out for the football. I just
remember when Travis Kelsey came out of Cincinnati's a third

(40:22):
round pick. I'm not comparing him right now to Travis Kelsey,
but he reminds me of when Travis came out, won
a lot of fanfare, he was a third round pick.
But he's going on done this, like, this guy has
real skills. He's gonna ignite somebody's passing game next year, Mike,
He's going to be a factor. Yeah, just because of
his ability. He's very smooth, he's very good in and
out of his routes. He's got great hands.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
Love it.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
Love the breakdown there for Mason Taylor, a guy that
now I'm excited to fifty five six', five he, said
two fifty. Five he's moving like he's a lot later, Though,
baldy thank you very. Much more breakdowns ahead of the
draft for, you coming from. You Matthew stafford back In
Los angeles with The rams and back to given back
to the. Community we'll let you know what that's about

(41:05):
when we come back next here on The. Insiders if
you Followed Matthew stafford's career and, all you know he
does incredible work in the. Community he and his Wife
kelly donated sixty varsity team uniforms and one hundred and
fifty uniforms from Five Pasadena panthers youth football teams for

(41:27):
a school and programs that were impacted by The eaton.
Fire they lost uniforms and football equipment in the. Fire
So kelly And Matthew stafford there to pick up the
team in surprise at the bank with their great job
by The staffords right, there and great job by Our
Tom pellisero making it around the sun one more.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
Time how old do we think he?

Speaker 8 (41:47):
Is do we?

Speaker 5 (41:47):
Know?

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Ian pick a, Shot.

Speaker 5 (41:51):
I'm gonna go forty, eight forty eight or forty, Nine.

Speaker 2 (41:55):
Almo, Fifty judy take a.

Speaker 4 (41:56):
Shot now forty?

Speaker 2 (41:59):
Three?

Speaker 3 (42:00):
Maybe, Hi, sarah he's ALSO i Mean sarah looks.

Speaker 6 (42:05):

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
