Speaker 1 (00:09):
Come inside with the Insiders, alongside Ian Rappaport, Judy Bautista,
and Mike Garafollo. I am Tom Pellicero. You are looking
at four people who, while at various points in the
last twelve hours, flew back from New Orleans. We are
not rested, but we are ready to go. Because while
there may be no more NFL games until September, it
(00:32):
is seventy three days out from the NFL Draft, twenty
eight days out. One month from today, the free agent
negotiating window opens. Two weeks from today, we'll be live
in Indianapolis at the scouting Combine. The NVIL never sleeps.
The Insiders are not going anywhere, and neither is the
legacy of this Philadelphia Eagles team that turned in one
of the dominating efforts that we have seen, frankly in
(00:55):
modern NFL history, absolutely dismantling the Kansas City Chiefs. Let's
take a look one more time at exactly how they
did it. Of course, this was a rematch of Super
Bowl fifty seven, the Chiefs looking here for a three peet,
the Eagles looking to avenge that lost two years ago,
and of course haven Saquon Barkley on their side. This
(01:16):
time does not hurt. Now, first quarter, we had a
play called back, a big one to a J Brown
down the sideline, same sideline, this time it's Jalen Hurts
going to Johan Dotson road a touchdown on the field.
It was clearly about a yard short, so why not
let's get the brotherly shove out of the way, moving
that pile into the end zone. That kind of encapsulated
(01:36):
how the physicality upfront made a difference in this game.
Didn't help the Chris Jones was banged up first with
the neck and then later on with the knee. Here's
the Chiefs said to nothing at this point. There's a
weird bounce off the hands of Travis Kelcey. One of
those nights for one of the Chiefs superstars. A rare
shot of Taylor Swift when things are not going first,
Chief's way back to the Eagles. Here's Hurts going down
(01:58):
the field for aj brid another catch for him. A
big day for Jalen Hurts, Judy. This was a dominant
day not only for the Eagles offense, but the defense
continually making plays and anny pressure like this on Patrick Malmes.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
This to me was the key sequence of the entire
game right, two straight sacks by Josh Sweat, who, by
the way, I voted for for MVP.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
I had an MVP vote.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
He got my vote, and then we'll get to the
pick six and that I mean I after this series,
I felt like the game was almost out of reach
at this point.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Yeah, that's a play.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
This was the moment right there, Cooper Degen housing it
on his birthday. We talked about Saquan's birthday. How about
young Cooper Degen taking one back and scoring the touchdown.
You're right, Judy, this was the point where you realized
this game had flipped. It started to remind me of
the Super Bowl against Tampa, where Mahomes had absolutely no protection,
(02:53):
started running outside the pocket, throwing the ball across his body,
trying to play some hero ball here, Mike it frankly,
there were no heroics, only by your guy, Zach Bond.
The year of Zach Bond continuing.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Mike, Zach Bond going to make a whole lot of
money in free agency. We talked about how the Eagles
don't usually spend at that position, but that could change
because this is a guy that meant so much to
the defense. It could do a number of things. To me,
this is when the game was over, like everybody had
their moment where if this doesn't happen. It was this
followed by the Hopkins drop, which we're.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Going to see AJ Brown channeling Lebron James with the
celebration right there. Nick Sirianni fired up Aj just getting
a little light reading. You could afford to do that
when it's twenty four zip of the Super Bowl. This
to me was a critical play too, because again it's
Mahomes running for his life. This is you know, we
don't have the wide angle, but this is a fifty
yard play. If DeAndre Hopkins catches the ball, not only
(03:44):
does he not catch it, it looks like he's never
caught a ball in his life, whether it was he
lost in the lights or whatever. Just an ugly play
that could have potentially at least given the Chiefs a
little bit of momentum instead. Now third quarter, it's twenty
seven to nothing, trying to get back into it, but
everything just seemed like ian the timing was off. The
Eagles had the Chiefs receivers blanketed, but Patrick Malmes was
(04:05):
not making plays on time like we saw often see.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
And then this is the dagger right, slim reaper just
finishing it off. I mean that's and you know, Nick
Sirianni is a lot of things, but man does he
know when to just go for the kill shot?
Speaker 5 (04:22):
A lot of times this was over.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
We talked about it right here actually over fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Now you know we've called every other Eagles player upfront's name.
How about Milton Williams. Who Milton Williams getting in on
the act. Guy, he's gonna make tripsack right there. Also
recovers the football the Eagles going to win forty to
twenty two. Maybe a little blow to the head right there.
Although this is the case where frankly that was probably
not going to flip anything. On one note call, Nick
(04:49):
Sirianni got a little bath. Travis Kelsey had to go
home in the outfit that, as Kyle Brandt said on
game day morning, is noughing. You simply can't go home
in if you have lost channeling Dirk Diggler with his uniform.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Walking, he ran into an absolutely yeah why not?
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Just ran into an absolute buzz sun And it all
started out with that guy Jalen Hurts, who ended up
winning the Super Bowl MVP, one of just three players
in NFL history to lead their team in both passing
and rushing yards in a Super Bowl win. Here's what
the Eagles are saying after the game, starting out with
their head coach.
Speaker 6 (05:28):
Jalen's special and you know, the criticism, it just blows
my mind because I think he I think he's so
special and won so many games and works his butt
off and just continues to get better, can block out
everything and just focus on the task at hand of
getting better, putting your self position to win each week.
(05:52):
And he does a great job of that. And he
had an unbelievable game today when we needed him to.
Because when you sell out to stop you know, we
knew how good of a coach and how good of
a defense that we were playing today. And when you
when you sell out to stop one thing, and another
thing opens and uh Jalen was able to take advantage
of that today And uh, man, he's him and this
(06:13):
team are world champce forever.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
It's been a it's been a long journey. It's been
a journey of.
Speaker 7 (06:18):
Ups and downs and highs and lows, and I've always
stayed true to it. In the end, man having his
vision of just being the best that I can be
and that evolving over time into this desire and his
flame inside to win.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
And you don't do great things without the guys around you.
So h the effort, the.
Speaker 7 (06:40):
Word, always leaning on that, trusting in that and trusting
the process and staying.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
The course and sticking to the script.
Speaker 8 (06:48):
Man, big shout out to the defense. They came out
and set the tone. We don't win that game without them.
And you know, offense, we came out had a game plan.
Speaker 5 (06:57):
Uh you know, we knew that.
Speaker 8 (06:59):
You know they're going to the focus is going to
be on a run game, and we took advantage of it.
We took advantge of in the past game. Jalen came out,
play big, and we took a team effort. So coaches, everyone,
Eagles organization, it takes all of us.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
When you are the best player in the biggest football
game of the year, your reward is the opportunity to
be next to a five foot tall mouse for a day.
That's right, Jalen Hurts visiting Walt Disney World. He is
also going to visit the Insiders In just a little
bit exlusive with Jalen Hurts from Disney World. So stick
around for that first, though, Judy, I want to get
(07:32):
your impressions watching this game unfold. I think there were
a lot of reasons to believe objectively, if you just
looked at the personnel, the Eagles were the better team
on paper, but you also knew the other team as
Patrick Mahomes, they have the guys who have been there before.
You watched it unfold. What was your biggest takeaway?
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Oh, just the dominance of the Eagles defense and how
you said it, Like the Chiefs timing seemed to be off,
Like Patrick Mahomes looked befuddled, which is not something I
think that's ever been said about him in his career. Perfore,
I mean, this is arguably the worst game he's ever
played in a big situation. They just looked off and
(08:10):
like they couldn't figure things out. And I was writing
about the Chiefs after the game, so I went and
listened to Mahomes and I thought it was really interesting.
He said he like he knows he sometimes is playing
hero ball, that he's trying to do too much. He's
trying to get it all back on one play, and
he said he's got to stop doing it. Like in
this case. You know, they were not blitzing him. They
(08:31):
were playing back, they were getting pressure with the front four,
and he wasn't taking what the defense was giving him.
Not that he had a whole lot of time he
wasn't getting any protection, but he made the point that
he's got to learn how to do that.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
He's got to.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Just stop playing hero ball and take what the defense gives.
He's got to be willing to play a sort of
dink and dunk football and progress down the field. And
I just thought, like, imagine the defensive effort it takes
to have Patrick Home sort of expressing that kind of
self doubt. I mean, this is the best quarterback of
his generation, basically questioning how he plays football.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
They had a stick that they ran all season long
on game day morning, and they had the clips of
them all throughout the season where they kept asking Kurt
Warner Rich Eisen did is this the most complete Chiefs team?
And he kept saying no all the way through up
until the AFC Championship game, and He's like, no, it's
not yesterday, No it's not.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
And eventually it did catch up to them because that.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
Was a complete Eagles team and an incomplete Chiefs team
won that we've seen it before. When the protection broke
down in the Super Bowl, they took a hard look
at their offensive line and they spent the offseason making
sure that it was further solidified. They're going to have
to do that this offseason as well. Joe Tooney is
a terrific interior player. He's not a left tackle, and
the things that you hear about left tackles that don't
(09:50):
project at the NFL level are the things that he
was exposed for, like short arms or maybe not that
kind of you know, a skill set to play the
left tackle position. So this Eagles team is about as
complete as it gets. And we talked about Zach Bond
and Mackai Beckton being two free agents that could be
moving on because they're going to see a ton of
money elsewhere. But two guys that really flourished in Philadelphia
(10:12):
might stick. But let's say they both are gone. It's
not like a death del to this team at all.
Speaker 5 (10:19):
It's just there.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
It's gonna happen when you win super Bowls. Maybe the
biggest loss might wind up being Kellen Moore. But the
point is that's how you build a roster.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
In the NFL.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Howie Roseman's got a great job of it. Brett Beach
and company got to get back to the drawing board
and see how they can become more complete.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Well, let's talk about Kellen Moore a little bit. Actually,
let's talk about both coordinators. You have Kellen Moore discarded,
you have Vic Fangio last year discarded. Both of these
guys come to Philly basically to save this team, and
the way last year ended it seems ridiculous, literally ridiculous
to talk about Nick Sirianni being on the hot seat.
But that's really what it felt like for the first
(10:55):
half of this year. It's like, if these coordinators with
all this talento come in and save them, all we're
going to be talking about is who is the next
coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. And they both came in
and were excellent. I mean, Fangio might be the best
defensive coordinator of the last like decade or more. And then,
you know, again, almost laughable to think about the discussion
of like, was Kellen Moore maybe distracted knowing he's going
(11:18):
to get the Saint Shop and has to come in
and do his job in Philly. I can officially say,
according to sources, Kellen Moore was not distracted. This was
a physical football team both sides. It was a team
that executed extremely well. It's not like it was the
most complicated thing ever, but they did a great job
of freeing up their great players but letting them just
(11:38):
wreak havoc on the Kansas City Chiefs. That was an awesome,
impressive win by the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
I would also say this because as I'm flying on
the plane today and I'm clicking around to various shows
and everything is about is this going to be an
Eagles dynasty? Is this the end of the Chiefs dynasty?
Listen On the Eagles front, I would say they look
like a young, fast, super physical team that, like Mike said,
just has these waves of guys, particularly along both lines,
(12:05):
where it doesn't seem like they miss a step even
when they've got the second unit in there. But it's
hard to do it twice. It's hard to come back
and do it again. On the chief side, the last
time they lost a playoff game was three years ago.
After that season, they made one of the most stunning
trades that we've seen and said Tyree kill Away and
that was about clearing cap dollars in cash and also
(12:26):
about getting picks. They use that to completely make over
their defense. I don't know what the equivalent is this
time around what you can do to kind of microwave
a transformation and a rebirth for your team here. But
we've seen Brett Veech and Andy Reid get creative in
the past. Don't be surprised if we see them do
it again. What we do now for now is the
Eagles are these super Bowl champions. Another big factor in
(12:49):
their success the second best turnover margin ever in a
single postseason plus twelve, trailing only the nineteen ninety two Cowboys.
I remember that was also a pretty good team. Stacey
Dales went one on one with one of these stars
of that defense.
Speaker 9 (13:08):
You are one of the grittiest competitors and you you
just a dominant performance to win the Super Bowl. Cdy,
what what is this like for you?
Speaker 10 (13:17):
Come back and see that drafted me.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
Yes, it's so surreal.
Speaker 10 (13:21):
But I think my teammates deserved more from God. Like
sa Aj, the macop Beck and the guys that came here.
They want to change the narrative of who they are.
Oh yeah, and it's for coach Nick Man. No nobody
gave us, nobody gave us praise, nobody had confidence and
us we had to go prove it every week.
Speaker 9 (13:39):
What about coach Nick? Why does he have such a
galumanizing impact on.
Speaker 10 (13:42):
Your group because you don't care, nobody say the only
thing I only thing that matters to him as a guy
in that locker room and what we say and how
we feed it back to him. And you're in a
hell of a job to pass three years.
Speaker 9 (13:52):
So his defense just was nuts tonight against Patrick Mahomes.
The sacks, the picks, the pixel pro season. What's special
about the group for you?
Speaker 10 (14:01):
We're young, We're young and hungry and go WT more
and this right here is just the start, the start
of a legacy that we want to build. And so
we brought ourselves in and we want to we want
to be nickt.
Speaker 9 (14:13):
So happy for your congratulations.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Brian Baldinger, just I'm told, walked out of the film room,
just got done studying the All twenty two You watched
it back, Baldy. How was the Eagles defense this dominant
in this game?
Speaker 11 (14:28):
You know it often said Tom that teams can be physical,
and the Eagles were physical, but they take it to
a whole other level.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
They're violent is how they play the game.
Speaker 11 (14:37):
You watch Nolan Smith go and crash into Trey Smith
and create just a collision and a negative play in
the backfield. They won one on ones all day long,
and it didn't matter who it was. It could have
been Jalx Hunt, Nolan Smith, Jalen Carter, Milton Williams, Jordan Davis.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
They all won.
Speaker 11 (14:56):
They wanted to front four and Patrick Mahomes has not
been affected like this since the last time he lost
the Super Bowl against Tampa when he was running for
his life, and he was running for his life yesterday.
The hits, the pressures, the sacks, he walked into sacks
because he was so flustered.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
It was just.
Speaker 11 (15:14):
One physical play affter another that hit by quinnyon Mitchell.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Guys, you're going backwards, Tom.
Speaker 11 (15:19):
Like this violence that they play the game with is
a whole different level than any other team in this
league right now.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
I looked up at the scoreboard inside the Caesar Super Dome.
At one point it was right around halftime. Blitz rate,
zero pressure rate, forty eight percent. Those were the numbers
at that point, and they just never seemed like they
allowed the Chiefs to get rolling, all right, say around Baldy,
a lot more from you on the other side of
this matchup in just a little bit, and he goes
offense that quite likely is going to be losing its coordinator.
(15:50):
Kellen Moore put on a show in the very stadium
where he is expected to become the Saints head coach.
Well of the latest on where things stand in just
a little bit. Coming up first, though, his quarterback for
at least today, Jalen Hurts at Disney World, the MVP
of Super Bowl fifty nine. It's gonna take a few
minutes with us. Jalen Hurts the MVP with us. Next
(16:12):
on the Insiders, and just like that, a.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Few hours later, there is Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts
joining Tom Pellisero and myself Mike Garrafolo here on the Insiders.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Congratulations.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
I'm always curious what it's like.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
You leave the field, you celebrate in the locker room,
You've got the party afterward, you're on a flight A
couple hours later. I forgot about your press conference. I mean,
there can't possibly have been that much sleep.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
For you this last night.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Has there been?
Speaker 8 (16:49):
Wow?
Speaker 5 (16:49):
I've been able to get some risks.
Speaker 7 (16:51):
I was able to enjoy some great moments with my
family and enjoy some great moments with my team Mason.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
It's been a great, great, great home and to share
with him.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Jalen. So much of the discussion going into this gaming
coming out of it is called football and legacy and
what this means for Jalen Hurts the football player. Where
does your recommend quarterbacks? I'm curious about Jalen Hurts the man,
somebody who goes through adversity and scrutiny magnitudes greater than
the average person, like in here, What does this mean
(17:23):
to Jalen Hursts Me standing on this mountain.
Speaker 7 (17:25):
Top, Well, it's just been it's been a long journey
of me just taking it a day at the time
and embracing everything that has come high or low and
joyful or payingful, and just taking it all in. You know.
It's it's always been a focus of just being determined
and having good work ethic and working hard and I'm
(17:45):
being focused on whatever I've the vision, and so in
this whole pursuit of my journey, I've always been in
the pursuit of my own greatness and trying to be
the best I can be and.
Speaker 5 (17:57):
Be the best leader I can do as well.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
He talked about taking it all in. I want you
to take me back.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
To last night.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Of all the images that we saw after the game
last night, this one has stuck with me.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
We've got it right here.
Speaker 5 (18:08):
You sitting with the.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Lombardi trophy, puffing on a cigar.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
You got Frankie Beverly going, You're singing along.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
A little bit.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
I know, I know what he banged to you, Philly
guy himself. What's going through your head at this.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Moment right here?
Speaker 5 (18:25):
Just enjoying the moment, enjoying it, soaking it all in.
And that's what I do. I mean, that's what I do.
Speaker 7 (18:33):
Super Bowl champ or not listening to Frankie Beverly and
God about it and enjoyed.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
Time and reflect so very fortunate.
Speaker 7 (18:41):
You know, I think one thing that didn't and I
don't know if it's getting talked about it and really
paid attention to it, but you know, New Orleans, New
Orleans was like a second home for FRANKL.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
Beverly, and I've been able.
Speaker 7 (18:54):
To build a special relationship with him and his family
him before he passed. And you know, you go through
life and sometimes you don't realize the impact that you
have on people.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
But I knew the impact he.
Speaker 7 (19:05):
Had on me, and I was able to share some
special moments with him before he passed, and that meant
a lot.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
And to kind of have a comeback and full circle.
Speaker 7 (19:13):
And be able to win my first championship in the
city of New Orleans where he spent a lot of
his time and.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
Created a great name for himself, I think that. I
think there's some beauty in that, Jalen.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
This was a dominant performance to lead this game. I
know you have had time to go back and watch
the tape or anything, but are there flashball moments from
that game that you're on the plane, you're sitting there
to stand out a player two or anything you felt
like was really the pivotal moment.
Speaker 7 (19:47):
I think, man, that defense, how they played. I think
how that defense played, how they were able to.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
Turn the ball over and affect the quarterback.
Speaker 7 (19:53):
That goes a very long way, you know, And you
hear the old cliche, offense wins game, the defense one championships.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
So you see that, you know you see that.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
Yeah, I think obviously all they're supposed to players, we're
having to make plan your fishing on offense and complimenting, planing,
complimentary ball as a football team.
Speaker 5 (20:13):
I think that that's that was the edge there, Jayalen.
I we appreciate the time.
Speaker 9 (20:20):
Man.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
I know you're having a fantastic day.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
You're gonna have a fantastic couple of days, have a blast.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
At the parade on Friday.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
You're gonna be celebrating all through the spring. You've got
the ring ceremony coming up though. I know you got
one ring that you displayed on Sunday, if you know
what I'm talking about.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
Not all gratulations, not all through, not all through the springs.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Okay, there'll be some work there mixed in. I know
there will be, Jayalen, thank you very much. We appreciate
your Super Bowl MVP, Super Bowl Champion Jalen Hurts than.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Pretty good night for Kellen Moore and that Eagles offense
at the Caesars Super Dome, which just so happens to
be the place that More is expected to call home
as a head coach. Kellen Moore, as we reported ten
days ago, top candidate for the Saints said coaching job.
They could not formally do a deal with More until
after the Super Bowl was complete, and the time being,
(21:10):
Kellen Moore did fly back with the Eagles to Philadelphia,
but everything's continuing to be tracking toward Kellen Moore being
the head coach of the Saints. Ian which brings us
to the unique process that lands Kellen Moore the job.
What is staff might look like and how they kind
of go through a pretty speedy process here based on
how the rules are set up for this thing.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Well, first of all, here's kind of the TikTok of it.
So Kellen Moore helps the Eagles as a huge part
of the Eagles winning a Super Bowl. Last night they
all get together and celebrate as they should. This morning,
Kellen Moore boards a plane to go back to Philly,
which he is in right now. I know some people
thought maybe he would just stay in New Orleans and
maybe sleep in his office and get to work. Doesn't
(21:51):
exactly work like that. Even though he was actually in
the superdomeen they did use the Saints facility. I'm sure
he got a nice tour of the whole thing over
the course of the next twenty four hours, probably a
lot shorter. He is expected to be the next coach
of the.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
New Orleans Saints.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
That deal should be finalized and could be announced as
early as tomorrow, which would make sense. As you mentioned,
tom this is something we've known for more than a
week now. As far as his staff goes, Doug nus
Myers's quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia, I know, would be considered
a strong candidate to have a big role on the
offensive staff, perhaps offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints.
(22:26):
They got to go through the process there. The defensive
coordinator should be a little more open. But I do
know that Brandon Staley, former Chargers head coach who came up,
is a really strong, kind of a hot shot defensive
coordinator candidate is going to get a long look there.
And you know, I know people say like, oh, do
they have time? I guess there, you know, can they
hire a good staff? Every like the people who are
(22:48):
on his staff probably have some idea that they'll be there.
They're waiting, say, Saints are going to be fine with
Kellen Moore as their head coach, And.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
There are a few leaps of faith from some folks
who are going to be on that coaching staff, who
had other opportunities, who held off and said let me
see because I'd like to go.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
Work with Kellen Moore.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
A lot of people in Philadelphia freaked out when he
had multiple interviews before their first playoff game, and we're like, well, no,
that's not or the second playoff game, you know, that's
not a thing. I don't buy too much into that.
But Ian, you're talking about being at the facility where
you're going to work, playing in the stadium where you
are going to be the head coach, and trying to
(23:28):
put this staff together at a time where all these
other coaches who were hired already have their staffs together
already in meetings like that is a potential distraction.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
All that stuff combined. I thought Kellen Moore handled it fantastically.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
And I don't know that a younger Kellen Moore, who
has been a coordinator before would have been able to
handle that. So I we talk a lot of this
show and I say, Wow, just because a guy's a
coordinator doesn't mean that he's a good head coach. But
this was a head coachy couple of weeks for Kellen
Moore to be able to do what a head coach
has to do, which is handled distractions, keep the main thing,
the main thing.
Speaker 5 (23:59):
I borrowed it from.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Robert Sell and a bunch of other guys.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
Kelimore did a great job.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
He did do a great job, and he did a
great job with play calling last night. But just to
spin it forward here, I am curious, not because obviously
it is sort of later in the off season and
some of the other teams, and there are big decisions
coming for this franchise, and after watching the way the
Eagles played yesterday, you just sort of wonder, big picture,
(24:24):
what Kellum Moore is going to want this roster to
look like.
Speaker 5 (24:27):
Right?
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Is he going to try to do what Philadelphia has
done and build a very strong offensive line? Will he
lean on the running game the way they did? Obviously
they don't have a Sakuon Barkley on their roster, But
what will he be looking for? What will he be
looking for in the quarterback? Is that person going to
be Derek Carr? There are so many big decisions to come,
and now it's going to happen in a somewhat compressed
(24:48):
period of time. Don't panic, There's plenty of time if
you're a Saints fan. But the decisions are going to
have to come pretty soon because we're going to get
to the combine. As we've been saying two weeks from today.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
A human reed for one second here because as Ian
was talking about Brandon Staley potentially being on Kellen Moore's staff.
This occurred to me four years ago. The Eagles had
a high level of interest in Brandon Staley as their
head coach. He interviewed the day before with the Chargers.
Was supposed to get on playing in Philadelphia or down
to Florida to me with the Eagles the next day.
End up canceling it because the Chargers got the deal done.
(25:23):
They end up extending their search. They hire Nick Sirianni.
Kellen Moore parts ways with the Cowboys, ends up with
the Chargers. He and Staley together get fired, which makes
Kellen Moore available to be hired by Nick Sirianni in
Philadelphia or he's part of the number one rushing team. Burtishes,
his reputation, ends up now expected to get the Saints job,
(25:44):
where he then would hire Brandon Staley. I hope we
got all that right. I'm very confident that's off the
top of my head. But these are sometimes how these
things go. As for Aaron Rodgers, much more straightforward in
terms of where that stands right now, he is not
expected to be back with the New York Jets. After
meeting last week with head coach Aaron Glenn and Gmdarren Moogie.
(26:05):
Part of ongoing conversations that had had the expectation now
is that the sides will go their separate ways. No
formal announcement on this yet, Judy, but it seems like
a new era in yet another way is coming here
for the Jets. It does.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
It feels like they are truly going to get a
fresh start, right They're going to turn the page. They've
got a brand new head coach and a brand new
general manager and now they're going to start over, which
is what it felt like for most of the regular
season that they were going to have to start over,
because while the numbers at the end of the season
and there were a few games where you thought like,
(26:40):
well he can still play, the numbers were looked okay,
But the real question was do you want to start
over your rebuilding team. Do you want to start over
with a forty meter quarterback who is nearing the end?
And I think the obvious answer all along was no,
and that the only reason they should have thought about
keeping Aaron Rodgers was as a bridge quarterback, which sounds insane.
(27:04):
A bridge quarterback who's a first ballot Hall of Famer.
This feels like the smart decision, frankly, to just rip
the bandaid off. I know some Jets fans are like, well,
we're tanking. We're going to go all the way to
the bottom. I mean, at some point you have to
start the next phase, and when you have a new
general manager and a new head coach, this seems to
be the logical time to start the next days.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
From what I was told, Darren Mouji did maybe as
good a job, probably as good a job as anybody
else who interviewed for the Jets general manager job of
communicating here's the plan, Here is how I see things
happening to get this team to be competitive. This had
to have been part of it, right, I mean, unless
somebody's already coming over the top of his head, which
(27:47):
would be a terrible way to start as a general manager.
So you assume that this was communicated during the interview
process and he wants to start with the cleanest slate.
Now it's a bit of a leap here because this
is not a great free agent class. Of quarterbacks, a
great draft class of quarterbacks. There are pieces that can
be on the mood and behead via trade or signing.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
But to do this at this point where somebody else
might say.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Well, you know what, you got the bird in the
hand here.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
Yeah, I know he looked old, and yeah, he's not
gonna be the solution for a long period, but there
were some flashes and if we build around Drek Mouji said, no,
I'd much rather just do this the way that I
see we should do this, which is clean slate, bringing
a veteran draft a guy, whatever you got to do
to start setting this up moving forward and making it
clear that this was a thing.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Of the last regime, not this one.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
You know, if a team is going to rebuild guys
like the way that they screw it up and we
see it really unfortunately all the time is with all
sorts of half measures, right like say, well, I don't
really love this quarterback, but he's sort of better than
anyone else maybe theoretically that I could get. So I'm
just gonna pay a little more and get this sort
of bridge quarterback and will never quite be happy almost
try to replace him, but he's better than nothing, and
(28:53):
generally if teams are afraid of the unknown, it doesn't work.
So really, what the Jets are doing is they're not
doing a half measured This is the whole thing. As
Judy said, this has ripping the band aid off. This
is saying we're moving on from Aaron Rodgers and they're
not afraid of the unknown. Who's going to be their quarterback?
I have no idea. I could give you six names,
all seem reasonable except maybe Sam Darnold. It could be anyone.
(29:16):
But doing it halfway is not good, and being afraid
of what they could get is not good. If even
if they're bad, just bad and they have to rebuild,
that's okay because keeping Rogers and just kind of trying
to move forward not the way to do it.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
All right, Coming up after this, let's talk more about
Super Bowl fifty nine. What we saw. Brian Baldinger is
going to be back. My goodness, Patrick Mahomes, this was
a rough day. That should have been a flag. It
would not have made a difference. Baldi's back a lot
more breaking down the tape on Super Bowl fifty nine
and much more.
Speaker 12 (29:52):
Next on The Insiders, It's over the Philadelphia Eagles have
won Super Bowl fifty nine.
Speaker 13 (30:14):
They have paton the Kansas City Chiefs forty twenty two.
It's their second Super Bowl win in seven years. What
a game, what season, What a team? The greatest Eagles
team in modern history. Eagles fans sayles and wait choice.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
Well.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Patrick Mahomes is certainly not rejoicing. He wasn't last night.
He took all of the responsibility for this game. Here's
his tweet. Appreciate all the eleven support from Chiefs Kingdom. Let
you all down today. I'll always continue to work, try
and be better for it. Thanks to God for every
opportunity he's given me. We will be back. It's hard
to imagine that as long as Patrick Mahomes is playing
that the Chiefs will not have a chance. Here's Mahomes
(30:57):
after the game.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
Out. I mean, there's no there's no way around it.
Speaker 14 (31:03):
Anytime you lose a Super Bowl it's it's sort of
the worst filing the world. They'll stick with you the
rest of your career. I mean those these will be
the two losses that will motivate me to be even
better to the rest of my career, because you only
get so few of these and you have to capitalize
on these and they hurt, probably more than the wins.
Speaker 15 (31:20):
Feel good, Listen, they all hurt. You get this far,
you battled your tail off to get this far. Very
very hard to do, and you know it's we spent
a lot of time doing this and it's not it's
not a hobby, right, So we're in it the whole
way and spent a lot of hours doing it as players,
as coaches. So it's going to hurt. They all hurt
(31:42):
when you get to this level and these things happen
three pet aside or any of that stuff. That you
get this far and you don't play as well as
you want to, it hurts.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
Baldy is back, Baldy, you went back in to watch
more tape for you came on just now, so just
tell us everything. What did you see from this game?
Speaker 11 (32:05):
Well, they were going up against Steve Spagnola, who's a master,
and really what he did, Judy in this game was
he played two high safeties, he pressed the outside wide receivers,
and then he loaded up the box with Drew Trankle
and Nick Bolton and Leosh and all big linebackers, and
they said, we're going to stop Sa Kwan Barkley, and
for the most part they did, but they couldn't stop
(32:25):
Jalen Hurts. And what they did was they said, Okay,
you're gonna go press our wide receivers. We'll beat you
at Johan Dotson like they did the fourth pass of
the game. We'll beat you with Dallas Goddter like they
did on that crossing route right there. We'll beat you
on this throw right here to Dodson. They would do
the tush push to get in. They beat him on
a forty six yarder to Devonte Smith. A great call
(32:48):
in the third quarter, Judy when they had just stopped
the Chiefs on downs and he got the ball the
forty six yard line and they went downtown. Max protection
took the shot, you know, and then they hit A J.
Brown on a shallow cross for a touchdown. They beat
their coverage because of their concentration. I thought on stopping Barkley.
And then you know, this throw right here to AJ.
(33:11):
It's a little pick rout in the middle of the
field against zone coverage, and Jay put it right on AJ.
So he fed the wide receivers and then look, he
ran for seventy two yards. He made good decisions running
the football. He's an excellent runner. We knew that from
the last Super Bowl that they lost to Kansas City.
Had a great day running. They couldn't take away everything, Judy,
they tried. Barkley was the number one, the number one culprit.
(33:35):
They were good at that, but they couldn't take everything away,
including Jalen's runs and the throws to the receivers on
the outside against man coverage. They beat him there. And
they also, I thought, pull a couple of good plays
out of their hat, specifically the one that Devonte Smith
where he got deep down the field like that, you know,
right after basically you have a fourth down stop, it's
(33:57):
like a turnover, so you just let's go, let's strike
while the iron's hot right here. Let's see if we
can get one on them.
Speaker 5 (34:04):
And it did.
Speaker 11 (34:04):
Next thing, you know, it was thirty four to nothing
and they were picked up the hymn books as a
church service.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
Ended all day.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
I have a feeling we're going to be referring back
to this performance by the Eagles a whole lot this
off season. Thank you, yeah, thanks always for your analysis
during the season.
Speaker 13 (34:23):
My home that's up seen Buddy's SIXUA looks like this.
It was six too.
Speaker 16 (34:31):
That goes my home.
Speaker 13 (34:32):
He's blushing, he's looking. It's intercedent.
Speaker 5 (34:38):
It's d sent.
Speaker 16 (34:41):
One of them.
Speaker 12 (34:43):
Twenty five.
Speaker 16 (34:44):
Now before side, it's the Gene and your Day and
Brock touchdown. Tachouk Job talks down.
Speaker 5 (35:13):
Birthday.
Speaker 13 (35:14):
You keep doing that.
Speaker 8 (35:15):
You got a better one.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Keep the two birthday boys right there talking from NFL films.
And with that, the number forty overall pick in last
year's draft clinched the number thirty two overall pick for
the Eagles in the twenty twenty five draft flip side
of the order, the Titans up top, followed by the Browns,
the Giants, the Patriots, the Jaguars, the Raiders, and more.
(35:40):
A lot of teams up there that could use a quarterback,
including the one sitting there at number one overall. Welcome
back to the insiders. Tom Pelisero, Ian Rappaport, Mike Garafullo
Ian Again, we know there's a QB need in Tennessee,
but what can we say about whether or not the
Titans even ended up making a selection and number one.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
First of all, it is early in the process. Tennessee
Titans have basically a new front offense with Mike Burgan
to the general managers, still going through the process of
learning each other and figuring out where they want to go.
But my understanding is they are open to trading the
number one overall pick, which if that is true, they
are going to get offers. It is a year where,
first of all, it doesn't feel like there's right now
(36:22):
or there's going to be a consensus on the quarterback.
Some people really like them, some people like them in
a certain system, some people not as much. Because it's
all over the map, You're going to get teams who
really really want to trade up, and other teams are like,
I hope everyone trades up so I can get a
great pass rusher or a great corner slash receiver or
whatever it.
Speaker 5 (36:40):
Ends up being.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
We also don't know the Tennessee Titans, who also do
need a quarterback. What do they think of the top guys?
Is cam Ward to Shador Sanders someone they believe to
be their franchise quarterback. If it is, then there's no
point in having this conversation. If they aren't sure, then
this is what we're going to be talking about for
the next four months. Going to be fascinating to get
to Annapolis, see where all this lands see everyone in
(37:04):
person will begin the process of figuring out where the
Titans go from here.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Speaking of trades, we could see Mike some high profile
receivers on the move between now and the end of Vapor.
We already know Cooper Cup the Rams have been looking
for trade possibilities there and now add Deebo Samuel to
that list.
Speaker 5 (37:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
Well, the forty nine has committed a ton of money
to Brandon Ayuk last off season i Uk Ventora's acl
which is a bummer. But when that happened, we said, well,
that's probably going to spell the end of Deebo Samuel
after the season. And that's sort of where we are,
especially because the forty nine ers have to pay I
don't have to pay, but they're going to try to
pay Brock Party, who wants to make sure that he
gets all the money before he sets a foot on
(37:44):
the football field once again. So just the classic example
of you just don't have unlimited amounts of money and
unlimited amounts of cap space, especially when they've got talent
on the other side of the ball as well. So
that's where we are with Deebo Samuel, who has permission
to seek a trade. Let's see where this one goes.
It's not the compensation they would have gotten on him
a couple of years ago if they dealt him when
he requested a trade.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
It's going to be much lower.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
We're talking about maybe potential day three compensation back to
the forty nine ers.
Speaker 5 (38:10):
We'll see how this goes.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
Financial is going to be a factor as well too.
And the forty nine ers we're getting calls on debo
before last year's draft, but they wanted a lot. They
wanted something the equivalent would have a first round pick.
They didn't have it at that time. People now entered
a contract here to do about seventeen and a half
million dollars here prolely in line for an extension wherever
it is that he ends up. You just knew Nick
(38:31):
Foles was somewhere waiting to send this throughout That Eagle's
blow wins really cool, and Tom Brady got to be
there for the Eagles two Super Bowl wins. It might
be a good luck charm burn Tom, take that. Roppert
meek Mill also weighing in on the victory, saying the
one time for the Philadelphia Eagles champions in the United states.
(38:53):
That's right, Meek Mill. It was a dream, not a
nightmare for them yesterday. There's also a dream for Fox
in one hundred and twenty six million viewers. One of
the biggest blowouts in recent Super Bowl history, those late
touchdowns not with standing a halftime show that I would
fairly say, based on Soto media social media reaction with
(39:14):
a Tan polarizing, doesn't matter. One hundred and twenty six
million people tuning in for this one. Welcome back to
the insiders, Tom Pilaicero, Judy Batista, Ian Rappaport, and Mike Garatfulla. Michael,
start with you, what was your favorite moment out of
Super Bowl fifty nine.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
I love being on the field postgame in a Super
Bowl and seeing all these coaches and players and everybody
with their families who sacrifice so much to make these
dreams happen. And this moment right here with sa Kuon
Barkley's child kissing the Lombardi Trophy there, which I immediately thought,
is that a good idea? I mean, everybody's kissed it
and there's been an illness passing around that locker room,
(39:52):
but my second thought was that was really cute. And
then he's walking away and he says to his fiance
and this bleep don't feel real right now. So it's
just just to be able to walk that way with
a guy who has been through so much in the
last eleven months or so.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
Really incredible moment.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
So my favorite moment was one that nobody else could see.
I happened to be walking in the tunnel a few
minutes before halftime, and I happened to come upon the
staging area for all the dancers that were going to
be part of Kendrick Lamar's halftime show, and to watch
them sort of warming up and stretching and rehearsing in
those final moments before they were about to go out
(40:30):
for the performance of their careers. And certainly the performance
of Kendrick Lamar's career was really cool and really reminded
me of when we're standing in the tunnel watching players
come out for the Super Bowl. The energy and the electricity,
which just awesome. Great halftime show, by the way.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
That's a good one. I have two favorite moments. One
the same thing I do every single year, where you
walk onto the field of the Super Bowl and you're like,
oh my god, we have made it. This is so
great that it's like which celebrities can I take selfies with?
And then the other thing was the j One hurts
smoking a cigar with the trophy. Man, I just love
to see a star, a champion soaking it in, just
(41:08):
being like, I earn this, give me ten seconds to
enjoy it.
Speaker 5 (41:12):
That was very cool to see.
Speaker 1 (41:14):
My favorite moment is always seen how many pieces of
your petty sick to Terry Branshaw's head.
Speaker 11 (41:18):
See you
