Speaker 1 (00:07):
You want football, we got football sixty minutes chock full
of it. In fact, Super Bowl champion Eagles Jalen Hurts
taking the field for the first time.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
In training camp.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
The Giants are out there with not just Russell Wilson,
but Jackson Dark going to work. He got the Packers
on the field, MVP Josh Allen and the Bills are
on the field, and of course you've got us Welcome
inside with the insiders alongside Ian Rapaport and Mike Garafullo.
I am Tom Pellisero. We are now just forty three

(00:39):
days away from kickoff to the twenty twenty five NFL
regular season, eight days away from the Hall of Fame Game,
the first official football game of this season, and for
the first time, right now we can say it all
thirty two training camps are in session. Let's start out
with the champs in Philadelphia, as I just mentioned, on

(01:00):
the field for the first time in training camp earlier today.
A lot of familiar faces, some new faces on that
team as well. Just days after the guys who were
around for that title run, including Jalen Hurts, got their
Super Bowl rings, a moment that Jalen Hurts will not forget,
but also as ready to move forward from.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
It was honestly surreal, you know, to see it. I'm
in person, you know, almost not nostalgic, but you know,
to see something that you've earned, have a moment to
appreciate that one last time. Kind of overdue but in
terms of what it was supposed to be initially, but

(01:41):
you know, it was a moment. In that moment's behind us.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
I truly feel like I'm the best in the league, and.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
You know, I want to put a stamp on it,
you know, so I'm definitely motivated.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Love of good, I'm the best in the league.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Quote on the first day of training camp as well,
AJ Brown delivery one right there. Let's bring in one
of our best right now, Mark Ross as well. For
a front office perspective, let's jump right into it here, Mark.
A lot of people believe these Eagles are built to
repeat as Super Bowl champs. Last time we saw him
in a real game, they were steamrolling the Chiefs in
the Super Bowl. With your background in personnel, what do

(02:17):
you see and what if anything is different from where
you saw them a year ago.

Speaker 5 (02:23):
Well, they've built the revieat because they have a ton
of young talent, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
The offensive personnel is almost all there except for offensive
coordinator Kellen Moore. And when you win the Super Bowl,
all your free agents, your coaches almost get overvalued and
they kind of get overpaid. With the Giants and both
of our Super Bowl runs, we had some free agency lead.
It's like, you guys can go someone else can give

(02:44):
you that money.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
But with the.

Speaker 5 (02:45):
Eagles, the departures that they've had in Sweat and BG
retired and chaun c Gardner, they've got young talent that
they've drafted that just has to step up, and they
believe in their system. That's the Jalx hunts is and
the Moro Jomo's. Sidney Brown's got to step in there
for cj GJ and Kylie Ringo has got to step
in for Sleigh and the draft picks this year led

(03:05):
by Johai Campbell, who you guys will talk about later.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
That's the system that they have.

Speaker 5 (03:10):
You perform, you play at a high level, you lose
free agents, but you believe in your system of drafting.
And you hear this all too often, but the Eagles
really have done it. They won a Super Bowl before
with a whole entirely different team. They reloaded, they restock
the talent, they want another one, and now their position
once again fellas to be in the contention to do
it again.

Speaker 6 (03:31):
Mark, you alluded to Kellen Moore being a loss. Yeah,
that's a loss. You lost your offensive coordinator, coordinator, and
he was a really good one. And Eagles fans are
freaking out because they're saying, the last time we promoted
an offensive coordinator from within, when we lost Shane Stikeen
and become a head coach, it was a disaster. I
don't know what one has to do with the other,
because I know that Kevin Bittulo, who is now the

(03:51):
offensive coordinator, has been in a number of different roles.
He's been in the one that's also helped communicate these
things to Jalen Hurts. Over the last couple of years,
Hurts has asked about his.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Relationship with Patulo.

Speaker 6 (04:02):
Those guys have a good communication process that's now going
to continue. And Hurts was asked about, well, now you're
going to help shape this offense and he said, yeah,
it helps when you win, basically saying I've got some
skins on the wall, I've got a ring on my well,
not on his finger.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
He does have a ring, though he refused to put
it on his finger, but.

Speaker 6 (04:19):
He will now help in the transition to Patulo as well.
So I expect really good communication and I expect an
offense that looks a lot like what happened last year
with some tweaks with Petullo at the help.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
You know what I was thinking.

Speaker 7 (04:33):
Mike Jahad Campbell did not go on the NFI list today.
Now that's an important thing. I remember he had was
dealing with the shoulder injury from college. A winter bin
pup would have been NFI for players sustains an injury
away from the Eagles. If he was put in NFI,
you'd say, you know what, he probably needs a little
more time to recover. Probably the injury concerned Maybe was

(04:55):
something that the Egles have to be worried about. He
was not he is expected to be on the field
when training camping. I doubt he's full go, but still,
assuming they ease him in, this is still a big
time win because this is one of the better talents
in the draft, and all the Eagles have done is
proven that young talent can come in and contribute on

(05:15):
this defense. We saw last year with quinnn Mitchell and
Cooper dejen expected to see it this year again with
Jihad Campbell and probably some others. There is actually a
possibility this defense is better than it was last year.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
And that is a little bit scary. Guys.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
You know, it's strange to think back to Week five,
that was when the Eagles had their by last year
they're two and two. There was a lot of debate
about is this team going to be able to figure
it out? They ran the table almost They lost one
game the rest of the season, and that was to
the team they saw again in the NFC Championship game,
the Washington Commanders, their team of the young quarterback that
seems like they are built. Thank you very much, Mark

(05:52):
to be once again hanging around this year, but they
got a big question mark within their own roster. Terry
McLaurin officially placed today on the reserve did not Report list.
He can be activated from that list at any time.
It is a fluid situation, kind of like the body.
I imagine if Terry McLaurin after his yoga class where
he took a photo with a fan.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
He is in the Virginia area.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
This photo brought to you via our friend JP Finley
out there for dan Quinn. It does not sound like
he is overly concerned at this point about the absence
of his top wide receiver.

Speaker 8 (06:28):
It's part of, you know, the business of the NFL,
and you know, I don't judge it or get too
worked up about it. I know Adam and his team are.
They're working as hard as they can, you know, with Terry,
and so the best thing I can do, honestly in
this space is like put all the attention and the
focus to go doing with it.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Like we love them.

Speaker 8 (06:46):
So I know they're working really hard to go do that.
But it's part of the business of our league. And
this happens on teams all over and so the longer
you've been in it, the more you recognize that's that's
just part of how things.

Speaker 9 (06:57):
Go, just business and NFL. You know, we always we
know Terry's working.

Speaker 10 (07:02):
We don't really have to worry about him doing any
of that.

Speaker 9 (07:05):
But you know, at the end of the day's still
one of our brothers.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
We now go like the Giants practice.

Speaker 6 (07:10):
Here is Russell Wilson on his way out there shaking
hands with the fans on board for Day one of
Giants training camp. Some excitement there, some swag at the
quarterback position, and yeah, he's the starter.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Brian Dabel made that clear today.

Speaker 11 (07:29):
Like I said, these guys will be out here competing,
but Russell is our starter. Russell's had a really good spring.
The other quarterbacks have as well. I like that room.
I like the direction of the room is headed. But
for all young players, you know, I know you asked
about Jackson, but it's really every young player. Our goal
is to develop those guys and when they're called upon,
be ready to go.

Speaker 12 (07:46):
I'm always just focused on being the best version of
me every day, you know. For me, you know, my
mentality is always to be the best in the world,
you know, I don't I don't know anything else other
than that. Just trying to having that mentality and helping
our football team win, you know. I think that's that's
the big thing that I'm really highly focused on, is
elevating our practice, elevating our play, elevating our mentality, and

(08:07):
having the championship mentality daily.

Speaker 6 (08:10):
According to social media Mark Ross, the first pass from
Jackson Dart at training camp was picked up and returned
for a touchdown. Don't worry nobody over it. Hold on,
many people overreacted, just checking my laptop here. But forget
Jackson Dart for a second. Let's go to Russell Wilson.
I talked about that swag at the quarterback position. They've
got a guy that's going in there with some confidence.

(08:33):
They did not necessarily get that in Daniel Jones over
the last couple of years. So Russell Wilson potentially leading
this team somewhere to I'm maybe going to say the playoffs,
but somewhere toward playoff competition.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Is that feasible? I don't think so, Mike.

Speaker 5 (08:48):
Look, look, Russell Wilson could be eighty years old and
still have confidence, because that's the way he's always been.
And every single player that I've ever been around in
twenty years of scouting never thought they were done. They
always thought in your ten they were the same as
the year two. But Russell Wilson is not the same
Russell Wilson that won the Super Bowls and with a
perennial pro bowler and could just put teams on the
shoulder and put up yards. I mean, this is a

(09:10):
diminished version of Russell Wilson. I mean, really, success for
the Giants this year, Mike, and we've been on before
and talked about it.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Looking at this schedule.

Speaker 5 (09:19):
Not playoffs, I mean five wins, four wins, I mean
they have a brutal schedule.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
They have a lot of young players.

Speaker 5 (09:27):
Everything will have to fall in for that defense to
really dominate games while the offense works itself out. The
leak neighbors goes crazy. But all in all, like Russell Wilson,
you know, I don't know what deal his agent has
be handed jobs this year with the Giants and then
last year with Pittsburgh, but he needs to get a race.

Speaker 6 (09:46):
He's making out just fine, Mark Rodgers's look, the path
to a number higher than what you talked about is
definitely this defense playing lights out, particularly upfront. They got
better out of a couple of free agents on the
back end, so that's going to be the way that
they're going to be competitive. We shall see if it's enough.
We're gonna talk to Russell Wilson on Sunday for back
Together weekend. Judy Batista and Iso stay tuned for that.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Tom Let's head to the AFC North Whethy Ravens are
out on the field. Some autographs signing from Derrick Henry
in company at the start of their first training camp
practice earlier today. We know Lamar Jackson's won the MVPs.
We know that he's been there at the end in
the AFC. Is this the team that can get him
to a Super Bowl? Is this the best team you've

(10:28):
been surrounded by, Lamar?

Speaker 9 (10:32):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, I say that every you do.

Speaker 13 (10:36):
But yeah, man, we got we got a great group
of guys, great Wilde receiving corps, great running backs, great
tight ends, great officer line, got the same guys back,
probably one guy missing out.

Speaker 14 (10:45):
The old line.

Speaker 13 (10:47):
Defense is looking the credible as always. Man, We're looking
great on paper, like I said, but we're going to
see you when the tom comes.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
DeAndre Hopkins, the legendary receiver, among the new editions for
Baltimore in this all off season. Pretty LFC contender, but
just three playoff wins in the Lamar Jackson era, and
ian they got their work cutout in their own division.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Yeah, I would say they do.

Speaker 7 (11:10):
The Cincinnati Bengals have been in the news a lot
the last couple of weeks. Nothing having to do with
that guy, nothing having to do with anything.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
On the fields, but all Trey Hendrickson.

Speaker 7 (11:20):
Meanwhile, several members of the Cincinnati Bengals, all the other
members of the Cincinnati Bengals have been gearing up for
what should be a resurgence season.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
What does Joe Burrow think of all that? Let's see
how he can improve everything.

Speaker 15 (11:35):
There's never there's never an area that I'm I'm satisfied and.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Where I'm at.

Speaker 15 (11:45):
You know, second that that happens is the second you
start gain complacent in the second that everybody else starts
to pass you up. So there's no matter how good
you are in one area of the game, is always
to improve it.

Speaker 7 (12:03):
One way the backers are going to try to improve
is to try to start just a little bit faster.
It seems every year, whether Joe Burrow is injured or not,
are coming off an injury or not, it has been
a slow start. Serling area of focus for Zach Taylor,
the head coach, expect Joe Burrow to play a lot
more in this preseason than he has previously. Member Zach
Taylor came from with the Rams. They don't play very much.

(12:23):
They're going to change that up a little bit now.
Expect the starters to get more reps. Mike to try
to start a little faster, and then of course in
their division with the Steelers, they also have a challenge.

Speaker 6 (12:35):
And we've been to Saint Vincent and Latrove recently the
last couple of years, and we say, is this the
year that Mike Tomlin doesn't get the team to a
winning record and potentially to the postseason. Omar Kahn, the
general manager of this team, who took some big swings
this offseason, says, forget all that, we have higher aspirations.

Speaker 16 (12:56):
Our goals win the Super Bowl. So we're building this
team super Bowl this year. You know, that's our goal.
At the same time, I have to my job. Part
of my job is to manage make sure we don't
sacrifice or do things that'll hurt us in the future,
you know, because our goal is to obviously sustain success
over time. But yeah, we're looking on a super Bowl.

Speaker 6 (13:17):
Con today said they were supremely confident the whole way
that they were going to get Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
If they felt any different, they would have gone to
Plan B.

Speaker 6 (13:24):
Never had to did land him here he was at
Mini caamp not doing much now. The plan is for
him to get a bunch of work during training camp
but Mike Thomas says, yeah, I'll probably pull back a
little bit, but more so to get guys like Will
Howard some work some of these younger guys. Actually, that
was the point of Mini caamp for Tomin as well,
to get those guys ready for training camp. So expect
to see Rogers starting to take full reps coming up

(13:47):
very shortly out there in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, as he gets.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Ready to try to lead the team to a Super Bowl.
Time forget Plan B, how about Plan C Plan D.
The Browns f quarterbacks in spades, at least on the roster.
They've also got the most freakish man we've ever seen
with his shirt off, Miles Garrett.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Just run this over and over.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
You want to intimidate your opponent, Let's just keep watching
Miles Garrett run onto the field. Forget Senor, forget Flacco,
Kenny Bickett, Dylan Gabriel, just a shirtless Miles Garrett getting
off the bus.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
That's enough to scare all their opponents.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
But is it enough for the Browns, whoever their quarterback is,
to compete in the AFC North For more answers on that,
Let's bring back Mark Ross, bring in our Bucky Brooks
as well.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Bucky, I come to you on this.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
The Ravens have been the team in recent years that's
consistently been double digit wins consistently in the playoffs. In
your mind, if they're the favorite, who is best position
to potentially push the Ravens in the AFC?

Speaker 17 (14:47):
Nor Oh, I have to be to Pittsburgh still is
when do you think about Mike Comlins and the job
that he's done consistently The Pittsburgh still is always.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
In the hunt.

Speaker 17 (14:57):
This year, they've taken an old page out of Michael
Jordan book The Last Dance. They're going all in on
the veteran players, the veteran All Stars as we'll call them,
Aaron Rodgers coming over. You think about DK met can
bring them over from Seattle. On defense, Darius Late, Jalen Ramsey,
you got to holdover the TJ Y cam Heyward. This
is the team, as O my con said, they're built

(15:19):
to win a Super Bowl and even though on paper,
I still think there's some work to do. Look, they
got a lot of veterans that can play. If they
catch lightning in the bottle where everyone is able to
stay healthy and the chemistry is right there's no reason
why the Pittsburgh Hillers can't challenge to Baltimore Ravens in
the end, Well.

Speaker 5 (15:37):
Buck, Unfortunately, it's the Michael Jordan Washington Wizards last dance
and not the last dance with the Bulls.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
There with the Steelers and Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 5 (15:46):
And that defense, we can remember the last eight games
completely fall apart when they couldn't score any points. So
this has to be the Cincinnati Bengals because it's much
easier to say going into a game and saying we're
going to score and our defense just has to make
one stop and we're gonna win games.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Sometimes their defense didn't make any stops last.

Speaker 5 (16:05):
Year, that's why they were they where they were, But
at least make one stop to win games. They've got
one of the big four quarterbacks in Joe Burrow. They've
got the best receiver in the game in Jamar Chase.
They've got the best number two receiver in t Higgins.
They've got Chase Brown, who's equality running back, in Koseki
who's a quality tight end, and the best number three
wide receivers well on Andrea Yoshavas out of Princeton.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
So when you're.

Speaker 5 (16:27):
Top heavy you have all of those playmakers on offense,
and you know you can go into a game score
in thirty and we've seen how they've played against the
Ravens the last two years.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
This has got to be the Bengals here to give
him a chance.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Our resident scouts market Bucky bring in the heat lot
more from the two of U in just a little bit.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
We also had some notable moves.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Around the NFL today in terms of transactions. Walter Nold
in the third the Cardinals first round pick, placed on
the physically unable to perform lists according to E and
he's likely to miss most, if not all, of training camp,
though optimism he'll be back for the regular season. Tray Hendrickson,
the Bengals star defensive end raining sack leader, all placed
on the reserve did not report list, as was Terry McLaurin.

(17:08):
Joe Mixon placed on the non football injury list. The
Texans running back was in a walking boot through the
course the spring. Doesn't seem like it's going to be
anything long term, but certainly something to monitor in a
Houston backfield that has a lot of different options now.
NFL MVP Josh Allen and the Bills among the teams
hitting the practice field for the first time today, it's

(17:30):
Morgan Wallen walk out right there, Josh Allen the center
of attention. Another deep playoff run for Buffalo last season
before it ended against you know who.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
I mean, we can only only control what we can control, and.

Speaker 14 (17:44):
That's this training camp right now, and there's no time
like the present. So again, we don't think about that
as much as people tend to think. Ultimately, we know
that it probably runs through them in the playoffs, as
it has the last one six seven years, right, So again,
we just have to continue to keep putting our best

(18:05):
foot forward and not focusing on the results but enjoying
the process. And yeah, going from.

Speaker 7 (18:12):
There, did somebody say Chiefs. I'm glad that Josh Allen did.
They're the Chiefs right there right on Q with these
super slow mo from Patrick Mahomes, the kind of deep
bombs that have made this offense famous and of course
delivered the Chiefs a ton of wins, including Super Bowl wins,
just you know, not exactly last year, which is obviously

(18:35):
something that Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are gonna have
on their mind this season.

Speaker 18 (18:41):
Obviously, we didn't play the way we wanted to play
and on a national stage, a worldwide stage, and you
want to go out there and be better, and so
that kind of helps you out on some of those
extra workouts that you don't want to do or some
of the different stuff that in order to get better
for that next season. It kind of keeps that in
your mind. But now we're here, I mean, we're here
to start over. How can I get better for my teammates?

(19:01):
How can I get better for the guy beside me
and going out there and attacking so that we can
find a way to win that last game and I'll
lose it.

Speaker 7 (19:07):
Patrick Mahomes looking nice and fresh with a cool haircut
right before the start of camp. Someone who doesn't have
to worry about that at all. Jeffrey Chadia, welcome inside
with the insiders. Maybe you do have to worry about
I don't know, but your hair is always very clean,
no hair at all. Anyway, Let's talk about Patrick Mahomes
and this offense. You know, last year was kind of odd.

(19:28):
I guess a little bit of up and down for
this offense. What do they need to do to get
this thing back to an elite level?

Speaker 19 (19:35):
Well, Patrick Mahomes has talked about this for months now
about the importance of getting that downfield passing attack going again.
And you saw that video. They want to see more
of that in real games. And the key to that
happening for offense that was fifteenth in points the last
couple of years is a couple of things. What is
left tackle Josh Simmons, their first round pick, really fortifying

(19:56):
that position. They have not had great protecting for Mahomes
over the last couple of years and it's showed up.
Another thing that's a big factor is for she Rice,
who's facing in suspension and coming.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
Back from major knee surgery.

Speaker 19 (20:06):
If he is the player they think he can be,
a guy who was leading the league in receptions before
he got hurt last year, he's going to have a
huge impact on this offense.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
But really the biggest the biggest thing here is Travis Kelce.

Speaker 19 (20:17):
Where does he fit in this offense now that he's
getting older, about to turn thirty five, and knowing that
he's slowed down a lot, He's going to have to
take a diminished roll and have other guys step up
for this offense.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
You know, chiday I always at tight end. You a
couple of weeks ago or whenever that was talk to
Greg Olsen. First thing he.

Speaker 7 (20:36):
Says is, see Kelsey looks good, looks thin. We'll see
Travis Kelce how well he can perform and get back
to what he was this training camp in this season.
Let's focus on the other side though, right we saw
a big, big deal over the course of this weekend,
George curl offtis with a four year, ninety three million
dollars max deal, one of their young studs getting paid.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
He is not the only one though they needs to
get paid. What does this mean for Trent McDuffie and
the Chiefs.

Speaker 19 (21:06):
Well, if plus McDuffie front and center, and he's been
one of the best young cornerbacks in the game, a
two time All Pro. But you look at that cornerback
market and the way it's exploded, and getting karl Offtice
off the books, getting him done allows the Chiefs to
focus on this deal. Because both these guys came int
the same year, there was talk about what was going
to happen if they both got to the end of

(21:27):
their contracts and had had.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
To be franchised.

Speaker 19 (21:29):
But right now, the cornerback market thirty million plus a
year for guys like Sauce Gardner, Derek Stingley, J C.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Horn.

Speaker 19 (21:37):
You have to assume that McDuffie wants to get a
piece of that, and keep in mind or she Rice
is also going to be up pretty soon here too.
So McDuffie is front and center for Brettfeach the chief
general manager right now.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Very very good problem to have if you're the Kansas
City chiefs.

Speaker 7 (21:52):
It's got to pay all these young guys you want
top of the market contracts bed but also excellent, excellent
for Kansas City and the way they devo guys. Jeffrey,
thank you very much for hanging out with us as always.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Careful to take it away. Thank you, Ian Rappaport.

Speaker 6 (22:09):
The Chargers who feel like they've been in camp for
like three weeks now, they've got to be halfway through
their week one install at this point, don't they Yes,
getting ready for the Hall of Fame game, that's why
they were in camp so early. But they have got
a jump on training camp over all the teams. We said,
everybody else is in camp. We've been talking the last
couple of days about how football is back. You know

(22:30):
who else is back? Bridget Condon's back, first time on
the program since February, first day off of maternity leave.
Ava Elizabeth born back in February. Congratulations, Bridget's so happy
to have you back and so happy to have you
talking Chargers this defense.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Last year eleventh in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (22:49):
You spoke to day On Henley, a friend of the
Insider's been on I think a couple of times about
this defense and what to expect in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
What do you have to.

Speaker 20 (22:56):
Say, Well, Mike, first, thank you, and I'm so happy
to be back. The only person to talk to than
my daughter is Dane Henley, right, so let's get right
into it. He said that they need to continue to
get after the ball on defense and touch the ball.
He was the one to get the first takeaway of
training camp. I asked him about that. He kind of
laughed and said it was nice, but they want the
entire defense to evolve. In Jesse Minter and Jim Harbaugh's

(23:18):
second season with the Chargers, they've implemented something called bt
B Burst to the Ball. It's something they do every
practice and at the end of practice, the defensive staff
votes on a position group, whether that's linebackers, DB's corners
who burst into the ball most. And he said, they've
won it as a linebacker corps majority of training camp
so far, but it's just a way for them to

(23:40):
continue that momentum, right and like this is the dog
days of summer. They need something to have a competitive
nature about. And he said, you know, we kind of
like struggled with that a little bit. When you think
of the defense you just mentioned it eleventh overall last season,
you think they're pretty good.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Well in terms of.

Speaker 20 (23:58):
Pass breakups and in terms of force fumbles, they weren't great.
Into putting context, Mike like, how important that is for
a team to have. The team with the most pass
breakups and the best at getting to the ball were
the Eagles, and of course they went on and won
the Super Bowl.

Speaker 6 (24:14):
Defensive coordinator Jesse mentor, as the confidence of a lot
of folks in that building, let's see the Chargers defense
can take the next step back to the offensive side
of the ball. Jim Harbaugh open training camp by saying,
the rest of this team needs to get up to.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Justin Herbert's level.

Speaker 6 (24:29):
So Herbert harball relationship in year two, where does that go?

Speaker 20 (24:33):
I mean, it only continues to evolve. Right, we think
that we've heard the most of Jim Harbaugh's love for
Justin Herbert. It's still there. It hasn't even reached levels.
I think we have a pitcher if we can pull
it up right here. On the viral meme that is
taking the Internet by storm this week, this is Jim
Harbaugh hiding behind kind of a screen, so it looks
like he's just looking at Justin Herbert. Well, he explained

(24:54):
to the media that that's not just the case. They
actually run a drill where the running backs tight ends
wider are behind that screen and he's kind.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Of pointing which way to go.

Speaker 20 (25:03):
It's an anticipation drill, so Herbert and the other quarterbacks
have to try and hit the receivers in stride, kind
of simulating, you know, with a defender coming at him
and being able to get the ball out and execute
on time. But I mean, Jim Harbaugh is always going
to love Justin Herbert. He says that they are on
a runway, right. He uses a lot of analogies. He says,
they're on a runway. They haven't yet taken off, but

(25:25):
they're working. Of course, they were in San Diego today
with their second practice in a row at USD, the
place where he had his first head coaching job. So
a lot going on with the Chargers, and as you
mentioned it, they have a game in eight days next Thursday,
the Hall of Fame Game, So he wants them to
take off soon. And I think this whole season, if
it so far has had anything to do with it,

(25:47):
we're going to get a lot more Jim Harbaugh memes.

Speaker 6 (25:49):
So yeah, I think we're going to see if I
know the Chargers social media tame, I think I do,
based on what they've done. I think we're going to
see that meme plenty times throughout the season.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Is ab a good sleeper?

Speaker 20 (25:59):
I mean, Mike Ma, if you're wondering why I'm stumbling
on my words, it's because I'm working off one hour sleep.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
Yeah, that's these babies in the sleep. If you got
a bad sleeper, it just makes everything.

Speaker 20 (26:11):
I think Justin Herbert is a great sleeper. If you
asked Jim Harbaugh, there you go.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
He probably knows. Bridget.

Speaker 6 (26:17):
We appreciate you battling through the grogginess. Go get a
couple of disease. Great to have you back here on
the Insiders. JJ McCarthy's gonna be back for the Minnesota Vikings,
and this time it's pretty clear it is his job.
Can he rise to the expectations they had when they
drafted him. We will discuss it up next on The Insiders.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Another playoff season in twenty twenty four for the Green
Bay Packers, who unfortunately ran into the buzzsaw of the
Eagles in the first round of the playoffs. Back on
the field today, one of thirty teams on the field
for training camp, and Matt Lafleur reflected on the message
he delivered at the start of this camp to his team.

Speaker 21 (27:00):
We're capable of doing some some really good things, but
we got to be willing to do the work. And
that was pretty much the message to the team. Are
are you willing to do all the little things that
it takes, because it takes a lot to get even
to that point to reach the postseason. It takes a
lot to We've got a we've got a really tough division,

(27:21):
we got a really tough schedule, and that's the National
Football League. So but you've got to do all the
little things and then you know, you always got to
have a little luck on your side in terms of
staying healthy throughout the course of the season.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
I just want our guys to understand.

Speaker 21 (27:36):
I told them yesterday. I'm like, hey, we got all
these sexy facilities, but understand there's nothing sexy about the process.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Speaking of that tough division, the Vikings, coming off a
highly successful regular season, did not end, of course, the
way that they wanted. Now another year and another new
quarterback in JJ McCarthy, who discussed his comfort level heading
into his first real season of NFL football.

Speaker 22 (28:03):
I feel different, just because, you know, it's a different
situation being year two, knowing the offense a lot better
than I did when I first came in here, and
knowing the guys and how they move, and you know
how they react to certain you know, coaching points and
just little you know things that go along with day
to day you know, practice and meetings, and yeah, it's
definitely a different feeling and a.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
Really good one.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Welcome back to the insiders, Tom Pilisero and Mark Ross
with you, Mark, There's really no precedent. There is no
precedent for a first round quarterback to miss his entire
rookie season because of injury. All those reps in practice
of course, whatever he would have gotten in games herees
he comes back now for year two, that's really his
rookie year. What are the little things you're going to
be looking for in training camp in the preseason and say, Okay,

(28:49):
this guy is ready for this moment.

Speaker 5 (28:52):
I love Daja's self awareness because I was going to
say it's almost a blessing that he was injured so
that he could learn all those little things that you
don't understand a rookie has.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
To go through.

Speaker 5 (29:04):
Everyone expects those guys to jump in there, especially a quarterback,
and just take over. But there's so many little nuances
dealing with the media, dealing with people in the building
that you have to take care of, almost like your
first day of school when your freshman in college, as
opposed to coming back as a sophomore, you're a lot
more confident.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
So I think this is going.

Speaker 5 (29:21):
To work in JJ's favor where he was able to
just learn everything about in the building, the coaching staff,
dealing with Kevin O'Connell, his receivers, his running backs. So
I think that is he's really in a great position.
And I really liking it too, how he played at
Michigan where you didn't look at him and say he's
a superstar.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
He's carrying everybody.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
Michigan when they won the National Championship had an incredible
infrastructure and he has that now with the Vikings with JJ,
the other JJ, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison and Aaron
Jones in the backfield and TJ. Hockinson one of the
best offensive lines, this defense is going to be nasty
at top five defense. With the additions of Jonathan Allen
and Von Hargrave, Brian Florad is going to have them cooking.

(30:02):
So I think for JJ McCarthy, the little things is
just going to be let me just be the point
guard of all of this great infrastructure that I have,
and I think you're going to see a successful Vikings team.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Forty seven days away from JJ McCarthy's presumed first NFL
regular season start, that wraps up Week one, Monday Night
Football National TV against the Bears. Mark, Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Ian.

Speaker 7 (30:29):
Trevor Lawrence has had some starts. He's done this. A
bunch hasn't quite done it. To that guy that is
Travis Hunter, the rookie standout receiver today for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
We'll get into that his plan and what in the
world is going to happen with Travis Hunter.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
But first, let's as Trevor Lawrence. You know how he's
doing now they were at camp.

Speaker 10 (30:51):
It's not really necessarily the time to turn like clip
a switch. It's kind of been on since really post surgery, recovery,
trying to get back healthy and learn the new system,
all that stuff. Is put a lot of time in
this offseason into making sure I'm ready to go this season.
And I say that too because I have a lot
of confidence in what we're doing here and the system,
the staff, the new players we brought in, the guys

(31:11):
that have already been here, like the culture, everything we're
building here. I really have a lot of confidence and
belief in what we're doing and that we're doing it
the right way. And I think that, you know, frees
me up in a lot of ways and kind of
allows me to say that and feel confident about it.

Speaker 7 (31:26):
Music to the ears of Jaguars fans, Let's bring in
mister Jaguars all do.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
Apologies to MJD. Bucky. You are a regular at Jaguars practice.
In fact, I'm going to be.

Speaker 7 (31:39):
There in a couple of days there's a pretty good
chance we'll be hanging out.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Together if you happen to be there that day.

Speaker 7 (31:45):
Take me through your takeaways for the Jacksonville Jaguars early
on here.

Speaker 17 (31:51):
What I would say is this team is really connected.
Liam Cohen and staff has done a really good job
to make sure the connectivity and the chemistry is right.
As we know, championship teams have that height connected feeling
and sense from player the player, player the coach and
coached the coach. And when I look at the Jaguars,
that certainly is a parent on the field. This is

(32:12):
all about Trevor Lawrence to get in Trevor Lawrence to
play at his best. I think Liam Cohen certainly can
take some lessons from his mentor, Sean McVay and how
Sean McVay got Jerry Golf and then Matthew Stafford to
play at a high level. How Lim Cohen got Baker
Mayfield to play at a high level. And one of
the things that you do is around them with playmakers,
ball catches, as I like to say, Ryan Thomas Junior,

(32:33):
Travis Hunter. You have Bretton Strange ready to go and
putting him in a system that plays to his strength,
more athletic movement, more movement based teams, greig rhythm pass game,
things that we saw Trevor Lawrence do very early in
his career. I think that is the way to get
them on track. And we know the NFL is the
quarterback driven league.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
If the quarterback.

Speaker 17 (32:52):
Plays well, the team plays well. This is about Jacksonville
setting their young quarterback up for Successilliam.

Speaker 7 (33:00):
Cohen does what he's done the last couple of years,
the Jaguars will be just fine. Bucky, Thank you very much,
great stuff as always.

Speaker 6 (33:09):
Oh Stefan Diggs got that excuse me dog get them
h That wasn't a pause for effect.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
They literally just had to clear my throat.

Speaker 6 (33:17):
The Patriots trying to get some puppies adopted. You can
see that puppy scamper away. He's got the foot speed,
oh Stefan Diggs. And you know who's happy about that one,
Drake May.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
I think it's awesome.

Speaker 23 (33:30):
I think coming out here and kind of a reset
and everybody you know, feels good coming into camp.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
I think it's kind of get a tester.

Speaker 23 (33:37):
You get a feel when you come up these practices
and these joint practices, you get a real feel where
you're at. So I'm excited for you know, where this
team's going. I think we've got some more work to do,
get in shape. Kind of small details offensively, but I
like kind of, you know, day one, where we're at,
and I think we've got some more work to do.

Speaker 2 (33:52):
What about working with Stefan Diggs. Is that exciting for you?

Speaker 4 (33:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 23 (33:54):
Anytime you know an All Pro and a player like that,
he made some plays out here today. It's it's all
being able to you'll throw the guy like that and
even when you feel like he's not open, he gonna
go make a play for you and kind of tight coverage.
You know he's he'll he'll strong receiver go mcplays. And
I think it's a we got a bunch of those
guys in the room that I kind of kind of
earned their role and find their role.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (34:15):
Fantasy analyst Marcus Grant now joining us because he's got
an article that's coming out on Friday on top fantasy
quarterback value picks. Just read the bottom of the screen, Mike.
It can't screw it up. They literally have the script
right there for you.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
I believe Drake May is going to be one of
those guys.

Speaker 9 (34:31):
No, Yeah, that's called producing.

Speaker 24 (34:33):
Drake May definitely is one of the guys on the list,
and if you look at him last year, it was
kind of one of those you had to be there
sort of seasons because statistically it didn't blow you away,
but when you watched him, you understood why the Patriots
spent the number three overall pick on him right now,
a thirteenth round ADP. But you look at what he
did last year, average more than seventeen Fantasy points per

(34:54):
game in contest that he both started and finished. Of course,
the Patriots did go out and add Stefan Diggs, they
drafted Kyle Williams. We'll see if they can finally develop
some wide receivers. It's something they've struggled to do over
the last couple of decades, even with all the success
that they had. They bring back Josh McDaniels to see
if maybe he can unlock this offense. If Drake May
continues to make plays with his legs, extend plays in

(35:14):
the pocket, and the wide receivers can help out, he
could have a higher ceiling than you would imagine. Another
guy who could be a value this year. Staying in
the AFC, East Justin Fields, and I know we've done
this dance before with Fields, but a ninth round ADP.

Speaker 9 (35:29):
He's been a good fantasy quarterback.

Speaker 24 (35:30):
The problem is that he's really struggled to have lock
down a QB one job for a real football team,
but average more than nineteen and a half fantasy points
per game as a full time starter in twenty twenty
two and twenty twenty three. Was actually the QB six
through the first six weeks of last season before Russell
Wilson took over This year with New York shouldn't have
to look over his shoulder for the guys behind him.

(35:51):
New OC Tanner Ingstrom says the offense wants to play
fast and be explosive if he can continue that rushing
upside that we love so much from him, Plus it
incorporate his pass catchers like Garrett Wilson, get Breze Hall involved.
Top ten finishes not in outside the range of outcomes
for Justin Fields, and then finally Caleb Williams Now Last
year at this time, he was going.

Speaker 9 (36:10):
Off the board around the eleventh round.

Speaker 24 (36:12):
This year he's moved all the way up to the
tenth round in ADP. But I'm calling it, Bears fans,
your long regional nightmare is over. Caleb Williams will become
the first four thousand yard passer and Bears franchise history
last year thirty five hundred yards and twenty touchdowns, but
sneakily the seventh most receiving yards amongst quarterbacks. That helped
him to a quarterback fifteen finish. They ad Ben Johnson,

(36:34):
They draft Luther Burden and Colston Loveland to go along
with Dj Moore, Roma Dunese and DeAndre Swift. I think
Caleb Williams, if he continues to progress, I think he
becomes the quarterback that Bears thought he could be and
easily outperformed as ADP this year.

Speaker 6 (36:48):
Yeah, I've moved Caleb Williams up just a couple of
notches based on him saying he wants to get to
that four thousand yard mark yesterday and Ben Johnson also
talking about completion percentages in practice.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
These guys are talking stats already. You know that they have.

Speaker 6 (37:03):
Caleb Williams individual performance on top of the team performance
as the goals for this upcoming season. Marcus Grant, thank
you very much, sir. Look forward to that article dropping
on Friday. Sign ups for the twenty twenty five fantasy
football season are now open. Join a league if you
don't have any friends, or start your own.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
If you do.

Speaker 6 (37:23):
It's fun and free to play, play with your friends
and family. Probably should have read the promo before I started.
We need to we need to start an insiders league.
Download the NFL Fantasy app or go to nfl dot
com slash fantasy. I don't think we won the Emmy
with this last segment, and it's my fault.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
Thirty teams on the field today for training camp practice,
including the Miami Dolphins. That is a roster that, despite
certain odds, still includes one Tyree Hill, who of course
refused to re enter a game and declared I'm out
at the end of last season to a tongue of
l His quarterback today give a pretty candid answer on

(38:03):
the work ahead to repair that relationship.

Speaker 25 (38:08):
When you say something like that, it's you don't just
come back from that with hey my bad, you You
got you gotta work that that relationship up. You got
to build everything up again. And yeah that it's still
a work in progress, not just for me but for everybody.
But like I said, he's he's working on himself. He's
working on the things that he say, you know, he

(38:30):
says he wants to get better with and do better on.
So that's the first step to me, and so I
commend him for doing that.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
Anthony Richardson has a lot to work on as well.
Step one complete. He is back on the field, miss
time back in the spring after his throwing shoulder flared
up once again. It's been throwing now for a few weeks.
Participated in practice today now. Step two trying to beat
out Daniel Jones for the starting job.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
You know, the same thing, go back to my rookie
year when I was competing with Gardner for the starting job,
you know, just learning the offense master and the offense
and just being available for the team. I think that's
the main thing. Conversations was saying, haven't really changed much.
He told us that, Daniel, we're not going to compete.
He let us know every day it's a competition. So
we both got to work and don't compete for that job.
And whoever wins it wins.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
It stillmore to come here on the insiders, including a
quote from George Pickens that you're going to want to
think on who did he and CD compare to in
George Pickens's mind, You'll hear the answer right after this
on the incepts Football is Back celebrate his teams across

(39:45):
the league take the field for Back Together Weekend, presented
by YouTube Tv with two full days of practices, player interviews,
and behind the scenes access. It's a can't miss NFL
reunion this weekend. Go to NFL dot com last Back
Together Weekend for more information. The Alanda Falcons one of

(40:05):
the last two teams to get back together, officially reporting
for training camp earlier today. Michael Pennix Junior, this time
showing up as QB one not pictured Kirk Cousins, who
is still on that Falcons roster as well. Cowboys already
rolling two days into their practices out in Oxnard, California.

(40:26):
Their new dynamic duo. It's Sadie Lamb and it's George Pickens.
What's another duo that you might compare them to?

Speaker 2 (40:33):
George, Oh, yeah, for sure.

Speaker 26 (40:37):
Why? Just different type of styles of play, Like a
lot of people over the years got different type of
styles of play. But CD's a certain type of guy,
and then I'm a certain type of guy. So when
you meshed that together. It's like Mario Bros. You see
what I mean? So like we definitely could do something special.

Speaker 1 (40:52):
I would just point out really quickly there that in
the original Mario Brothers, Mario always played first. At times,
Luigi's gonna have to play first. We might have some
problems in Dallas Ian real quick. Most iconic cartoon duo
in your mind. God, this was a tough one. Racked
my brain.

Speaker 7 (41:09):
There's a lot of good options. I'll give you a
little wild card. Ren and Stimpy, remember them, the Nickelodeon duo.
They were crazy. There was all sorts of wildness. They
bank each other, there.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
Was a lot there.

Speaker 7 (41:21):
Only lasted five seasons, made an indelible mark on my childhood.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
Just as far as the per stupidity, I'm all in
on it. Ren and Stimpy, Robert Nipples. That was a
great episode. And Beavis and butt Head do America was great.

Speaker 6 (41:37):
The scene with the petrickside would if you watch that
and you don't laugh at Beavis and butt Head and
how stupid the whole thing is, just leave it and
just leave it.

Speaker 2 (41:45):
Just just let the folks go. No, you could just
go watch the movie. We don't have to explain it.
It's a great scene.

Speaker 1 (41:50):
Tom Okay, okay, was that your answer, Mike? I couldn't
even tell you. You simultaneously confused you.

Speaker 6 (41:58):
This show sometimes reairs and it precedes Good Morning Football.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
We're beating them at their own game.

Speaker 1 (42:03):
Here go ahead, tom Per, I'm gonna go ahead and
say pinky in the brain because just like the three
of us, we're gonna do the same thing every night,
trying to take over the world. We got everybody on
the field, all three two teams. Tomorrow we'll talk about
on this show, seven Eastern.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
Be there, see you
