Speaker 1 (00:09):
The Bengals offense remains sluggish on Monday Night, but Bo
put on a show. Bryan Baldi will join us tonight
to break down since he's struggles and a Broncos oh
that is starting.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
To hum in the nix of time.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
We are officially four full weeks into the NFL season
and our friend Jeffrey Chadia is already weeding out the field.
He'll be here with some thoughts on who's a contender,
who's a pretender, and who still has time to flip
that script. It's not too late for your fantasy team
unless you're oh and four, in which case you go
try fantasy basketball or something Otherwise, stay tuned for Michael
(00:49):
f Florio's waiver Wire winners.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
They can help you get over the hump.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Welcome inside with the Insiders, presented by Progressive Insurance alongside
Mike Garret. Follow I am Tom Peliserra Week four now
in the books.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
You're two days away from week.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Five of some updates on that forty nine Ers Rams game,
including the status of Rock Purty in just a little bit,
but we begin with the big injury from Monday Night,
that is two Dolphin Star wide receiver Tyreek Hill you
knew it was bad when you saw the play, even
though his demeanor, his smile is energy leaving the field
belied the seriousness of the situation. It is a dislocated knee,
(01:30):
multiple torn ligaments, including a torn acl Tyreek Hill's season
is obviously over.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Here's what Mike McDaniel glad to say earlier today.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
He is currently in surgery right now. It's a major
knee procedure, multiple ligaments, and yeah, obviously season's done. It
hasn't been deemed to be anything beyond this surgery, and
(02:03):
we're very hopeful for to turnout well.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Tyreek Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus told me Tyreek's surgery went
very well. Fortunately, everything was done with one procedure. The
goal is for Tyreek to be ready for the start
of next season. That would certainly might be the optimistic
end of the timetable for Tyreek Hill. No question along
road ahead, and there are real questions here about exactly
what and where his future.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Might hold exactly because if he's ready by the start
of next season, there's no guarantee it's in a Dolphins uniform.
He does not have any guaranteed money for the twenty
twenty six season. He has an eleven million dollar trigger
if he's on the roster. I believe it's the fifth
day of the league year, So the Dolphins in December
could potentially walk away from Tyreek Hill at that point,
(02:51):
at which point he become a free agent, and it
would be a fascinating free agent because there would be
interest from teams around the league. But it would have
to be some kind of a leap of faith at
that point. So this could be the last that we
saw Tyreek Hill in a Miami Dolphins uniform. But that's
all to be played out here as we figure out
(03:11):
where he's going to be in terms of his recovery
and what the Dolphins did decide when it comes to March.
But a pending that we're going to come back to
that in a couple of months time.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Tyreek Hill did indeed undergo surgery. It is now complete.
There was a photo posted by Tyreek to his social media,
the entire thing, the way that he handled it, the
fact that might be Daniel said he was cracking jokes
as he left the field, showing leadership in that moment.
It was something we've really never seen before, quite honestly,
with this series of an injury. As we welcome Cameron
(03:42):
Wolf into the show right now. Cam, you were in
that locker room after the game. A big win for
the Dolphins. Let's not overlook that they beat the Jets,
they get on the win total for the first time
this season, but they lose one of the best players.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
What was the mood, Tom, It was one of the
most subdued locker rooms I've ever been at after an
important prime time win. And it's because of the seriousness
of Tyreek Hill's injuries, but also the importance of who
Tyreek is as a man, as a teammate, as a passion,
as an energy, and these guys knew even before Mike
(04:17):
McDaniel said he's out for the season for him a
need desk location. I went in the locker room and
talked to left tackle Patrick Paul and he got a
close view of the injury and he immediately said no
comment when asked to describe it, and he said, honestly, it.
Speaker 6 (04:29):
Was tough to watch.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
They saw the visual of his leg being able to
move in different ways, and he talked about him being
the heart and soul of the team. And then I
went to Jaylen Waddle Tyrek's best friend on the team,
who he calls his twin, and he talked about the
importance of him on the team, his stature in the league,
his legacy, and then he took a deep breath. Waddle
did and you could tell you you're trying to contain his emotions,
(04:52):
maybe thinking is this the last time I'm playing with Tyreek?
Is this the last time any of us will play
with him? And you can just feel the heavy of
the moment throughout that you talked about the joking. Jordan Brooks,
the linebacker, said he was joking about how his leg
got cracked to his teammates, and you saw the video
of the emotions of him clapping and smiling, and it's
(05:13):
hard for us to understand that.
Speaker 7 (05:15):
But I talk with a few teammates.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
Via text, and one made a good point of that
Tyreek is such an energy giver that he felt like
Tyreek was trying to give the team energy, try to
give them fuel, to hide his pain, to hide his shock.
And he made a comment that he hopes that Tyreek
has somebody to give him energy through these rehab.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Periods, these long, lonely months, because.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
That's what he needs, that's what he thrived for So
as we talk about what's next for Tyreek and with
the Dolphins, I think a lot of his teammates are
thinking today about what's next for Tyreek the man in
this long, long recovery he's going to have to go
through to get back not only as a player, but
to himself as a person.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Yeah, but the season goes on, So we are going
to ask what's next for the Dolphins here? I mean,
you lose a player of that caliber you saw on
Monday night. He still had that burst, he still had
that change of direction. He's still Tyreek Hill. Which is why,
by the way, we were going to talk about him
as a possible trade chip here as we got closer
to the trade deadline. Obviously that is off the table
at this point. So what do the Dolphins do with
(06:14):
regard to twenty twenty five to move on here? And
I know you're going to say the name Malik Washington, right, Yeah, Mike.
Speaker 5 (06:22):
First of all, this very had been the last time
we see Tyreek Hill in a Dolphins uniform, and that
might have been the case even before the injury. And
so this is Jayla Wattle season. This is the error
for him to become a number one receiver. And I've
talked to people in this organization for months and they
believe that he was already ready to be that number
one and maybe he deferred a little bit to the
(06:42):
guy he called his twin, Tyreek Hill. But even in
moments in the locker room last night, I could see
Jayla Wattle wrestling with the idea of being the guy.
Speaker 7 (06:51):
It's going to start with him.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
You mentioned some of the other guys, Malikue Washington, Darren Waller,
TODJ Washington, all these guys are going to.
Speaker 7 (06:58):
Have to step up, but Jayla to prove he can
be the.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
Threat that Tyreek was, whether it's the motion down the
field plays, whether it's just the technique and details, and
he started to do some of that this offseason, but
it starts with him. And Tyreek told Waddle last night, essentially,
keep your head in it, win for me, do this
for me. And so he's got that onus on him.
You mentioned Malikue Washington, He's going to pick up a
(07:22):
lot of those starting roles, a lot of the motion opportunities.
And obviously Darren Waller had a big night for this team.
But this Dolphins team's going to have to find some
juice and energy elsewhere.
Speaker 7 (07:32):
I've been around this team for years.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
And Tyreek is always the guy that's bringing the competitive juice,
that's yelling at teammates when we need it. We saw
the video before the game of him headbutting teammates to
get them pumped up. There's oftentimes where they don't have
the juice without Tyreek. And so he was the number
one receiver in football a year ago, voted the number
one player by players in the NFL Top one hundred
a year ago. The on field impact is enormous. Maybe
(07:58):
even bigger is how do they bring that juice in
this last push the season where they have to win
and they have to win soon, and so everyone is
going to have to pick that up from a leadership standpoint,
and they're rustling today about what that void, what that
absent means to everyone.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Great stuff, cam more from you on news around the
league in just a little bit. There hasn't been a
news on what the Dolphins are doing as they move
forward here to bring them back an old friend expected
to sign veteran Cedric Wilson Junior off the Saints practice squad.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Wilson spent the twenty, twenty two and twenty three.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Seasons in Miami, eventually spent last year with the Saints.
Now coming back, so an opportunity with a veteran player
who is still not yet age thirty, who already knows
Mike McDaniels offense to potentially step in and be able
to contribute right away elsewhere around the league. Forty nine
Ers kickoff Week five Thursday night against the Rams, and
once again we're talking about the status of quarterback. Brock
(08:52):
Purty officially did not participate today in the only real
practice they have on the short week, dealing with sword
us once again in the at to that previously kept
him out for two games. Kyle Shanahan says he will
play if he can do everything one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Pretty told reporters today.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
He couldn't play at the game where tonight, but he said,
I still have two more days. Meanwhile, a couples wide
receivers also banged up, Ricky Piersoll not practicing he's dealing
with a knee injury. General manager John Lynch said that
Pearson is questionable, and so is Juan Jennings, who is
dealing with both ankle and rib injuries.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
This, of course, is a forty nine Ers team.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
The trade away Deebo Samuel in the off season, they
have not yet had Brandon Ayyuk, Jennings and Pearsol factored
heavily into their plans. Real questions about the status of
not a surprise Mike, a bunch of the forty nine
Ers key players going into a huge NFC West showdown and.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
On Wednesday, pay attention to all those posts on social
media coming out of the Commander's practice because we expect
Jayden and Daniels to be back at the front of
the line, participating fully or as much as he possibly
can in practice this week. Because the ex victation is
that he will be back after a two game absence
a huge game against the Chargers, because the Commander's at
(10:06):
two and two now looking at the prospect of being
under five hundred potentially, so Jayde Daniels working his way
back into playing shape this week. That's the expectation.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Tom JJ McCarthy still a long shot, it seems, to
play on Sunday in London against the Browns, but a
bit of good news. Coach Kevin O'Connell said they are
hopeful that McCarthy will be able to reintegrate in sometime
a modified practice schedule this week. So while it's probably
going to be Carson Wentz against Miles Garrett and the Browns,
what this now allows McCarthy to do is begin to
(10:36):
ramp up, get a step closer to potentially returning after
the week six by when they got to take on
the Eagles.
Speaker 6 (10:42):
Mike, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
Meanwhile, Lamar Jackson with the Ravens, Yeah, he might not play.
I know there's been reports to he might not play. Yeah,
no kidding, he might not play. He's got a hamstring injury.
We don't know for sure. I've had multiple conversations with
Ravens sources throughout the day today, frankly the last couple
of days, and everybody say, look, we're confident Cooper Rush
if he has to play, if we need him. It's
a lot of if because they need to see how
(11:03):
Lamar can do throughout the week, and you know how
competitive he is. If he can, if he can go,
he will try his best to go.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
We had a doubleheader on Monday night.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
It was not just the Jets and the Dolphins, also
was Broncos Bengals, two teams and of course at an
epic game last year at the end of the season.
This one was all Broncos Bow knicks to Cortland sutton
Ston earning every penny of that new contract he got,
twenty one to three at halftime. It did not get
any better for the Bengals. That's Nick Bonido taking down
(11:34):
Jake Browning. Broncos led the league in sacks, coming in
three more sacks last night, and how about one more
time for good measure? Anybody want to cover R. J.
Harvey out of the backfield? Twenty eight to three, another
win over a Bengals team that's trying to figure this
thing out.
Speaker 8 (11:50):
Card knowing the type offense we have, knowing the type
of weapons we have in the backfield and outside on
in that tight end. So I mean, it's kind of
hard for this. We know we're capable of. We know
in and I was at the offense. You know, we
know with Donald downfield threat team and everybody else knows it.
But you know, right now we're facing the adversity and
we gotta figure it out.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
You said, ye do see what y'all want?
Speaker 6 (12:11):
Why do you think.
Speaker 8 (12:14):
Just giving up man a lot of flags on the
field that comes with that comes with being disciplined. Too
many flags on offensive hide too just out there, man,
You offense gotta one and more than the defense does.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
As we welcome in our friend Brian Baldinger to the conversation. Baldi,
I'm just gonna put it the simplest way possible. We've
seen the Bengals win games with Jake Browning at quarterback
before they've got down at the skill spots.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
What's going on?
Speaker 9 (12:44):
Well, last night, Jake Browning couldn't get to his third
step before he was under siege.
Speaker 6 (12:50):
They couldn't get the ball down the field.
Speaker 9 (12:51):
I mean, you know, Jamar Chase had five catches for
twenty three yards.
Speaker 6 (12:55):
They literally they couldn't convert.
Speaker 9 (12:57):
A third and three before here comes John Cooper and
Nick Benito right there. But they're a big five man
rush team. You see a spy right there and then
the four rushers. But it was I mean literally, Jake
Browning couldn't even get the three steps and get the
ball out of his hands for those guys even.
Speaker 6 (13:13):
Run those routs.
Speaker 9 (13:14):
Jamar Chase talked about where the down the field passing team, Well,
they got one explosive pay play in the passing game.
Speaker 7 (13:20):
All night.
Speaker 6 (13:21):
The protection just couldn't hold up.
Speaker 9 (13:23):
And I mean you could go and look at all
the next level metrics on Jonathan Cooper and Nick Benito.
I don't believe right now, Tom that there is a
faster duo of getting to the quarterback than those two
guys off the edge. And then when you factor in
Zach Allen and you know John Franklin Myers and DJ
Jones inside, they can get you and get that quarterback,
(13:46):
speed them up in a hurry where they can't get
the ball down the field. And so it was just
domination on that side of the field all night.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Now that Bengals defense does not exactly turn things around
either the way that they were envisioning here, but it's
the Bengals offense might think continues to get the attention
because you don't go out and pay Jamar Chase is
the highest paid non quarterback ever. You don't go out
and pay t Higgins as well. All the investment they've
made on that side, and even when you lose the quarterback, realistically,
you know there's going.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
To be a fall off.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
But now when they're struggling this bad everything kind of
gets micro analyzed in terms of what people are saying
or even doing on the sideline during the game.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
I know exactly what you're talking about. Is that sideline
conversation I'm gonna call it between Jamar Chase and Zach
Taylor that the cameras focused on. Look, Travis Kelce nearly
ran over Andy Reid, like thirty years older than him
on the sideline at the Super Bowl. I need a
little bit more than this right here before we go, Like,
(14:43):
whoa look at the sideline interaction between a frustrated wide
receiver who misses his best buddy of the quarterback in
the middle of the second straight game that they're getting run.
Of Course he's going to be upset. Of Course he's pissed.
Of Course they're trying to fail.
Speaker 10 (14:56):
Like there's been so many.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
Of these this year's just been blown out of proportion.
I know there was one with Jalen Hurtz and Kevin
Patulo in Philadelphia during a game that they won, where it's.
Speaker 10 (15:05):
Like, what is this interactional about?
Speaker 4 (15:07):
When you're losing this badly for the second straight week,
you're gonna have moments like this.
Speaker 10 (15:12):
This is fine.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
This is a competitive guy talking to his head coach
trying to figure out.
Speaker 10 (15:15):
A way to win.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Now, if it's behind the scenes and you've got Jamar
Chase saying, look, we got to make a move at
quarterback because Jake Browning is just cutting it, that's a
little bit of different story. And I believe the Bengals
are going to have to at least explore some possibilities
elsewhere because at this point you're still two and two.
Potentially could salvage this thing if you get better quarterback
player're just not getting it right now.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
And Baldy real quick before we let you go here.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Scale of one to ten, you've seen a lot of
wide receivers through your playing career. Your analystics, where does
that one rank? I know we're definitely not at a
ten right there?
Speaker 6 (15:47):
Oh no, no, that's how you do the diva ranks
right there. That's just like, hey, have you forgotten about me? Coach?
Speaker 9 (15:52):
Like that's what it looked like. Like, I'm still ware
number one, I'm still on the team.
Speaker 7 (15:55):
Here.
Speaker 9 (15:56):
You're like, maybe maybe Max protect and just let me
go down the against patri Stan and just let me
just beat him one time? Did I I thought it
was pretty call, pretty call. I mean, I mean just
the body language itself. I think you've read that right, Mike.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
Time now for good coverage presented by Progressive Insurance. Bears
safety Kevin Bayer the Third came up big in Week
four against the Raiders, grabbing two interceptions in the first half.
He joins teammate linebacker Tremaine Edward Edmonds, who had two
picks in the second half of Week three against the Cowboys.
They're the only players in the NFL this season to
record two or more interceptions in a single half. That
(16:34):
is your good coverage, presented by Progressive Insurance. Now time
for some great coverage. Jeffrey Todea. That's what he provides.
He has got his Contenders and Pretenders article up on
NFL dot com. See it's contenders pretended to sort of
rhymes right, like, either your contender and you're meant to
(16:55):
be here or you're pretending you're just pretending to be here.
That's how it works, the U contenders or pretenders.
Speaker 11 (17:03):
You know. I've been on the Bears all off season.
I've been waiting for big things to happen. I like
the potential of Caleb Williams working with Ben Johnson, but
I'm just not seeing it happen quickly enough.
Speaker 6 (17:13):
And I have to take a pretender here.
Speaker 11 (17:15):
I just feel like it's going to take a little
bit longer than everybody thought. You see the way they
open the season with two tough losses, giving up a
big lead, fourth quarter lead against the Vikings and then
getting blown up by the Lions. I just think that
in that division, the NFC North, I can't see them
jumping over the Lions, the Vikings, or the Packers.
Speaker 6 (17:32):
So I'm going to go with pretender here.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
Yeah, And they got a lot of those division games
late in the season as well, So that'll be the
stretch in which we find out for sure contender or pretender.
And if it's pretender, you could say, Jeffrey tod It
told me that back in not October. It's still September
at least for one more day. The Washington Commanders you
mentioned earlier in the show, Jayden Daniels working his way
back two and two potentially could dip to two and
(17:55):
three if they lose to the Chargers. Does that make
them a contender or pretender?
Speaker 11 (18:00):
Well, I'm going with contender here because I really believe
in Jaydon Dan's and what he means to this to
this team. Because you see the way the defense looks
when he's.
Speaker 6 (18:06):
Not out there. Yeah, they got by.
Speaker 11 (18:08):
We could go with Marcus Mariota, but man, give up
four hundred yards to an Atlanta team that was struggling
on offenses is really hard to stomach. So Jaydon Dam's
coming back makes me really believe me contender here because
I love what he can do with his legs. They
get Terry McLaurin back at some point, Noah Brown's receivers.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
This team is built to score points.
Speaker 11 (18:25):
That offense gets right, they will be right.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
You mentioned the Vikings as that cluster of teams ahead
of the Chicago Bears in the NFC North, So does
that make them a contender?
Speaker 11 (18:36):
Well, I'm going contender here, but I'm definitely doing it
with a little bit of concern because this injury with
Jad McCarthy is really hard. If he's going to be
out longer than we think. They got some tough games
come up here with the Eagles and the Lions and
the Ravens. That's a tough gult.
Speaker 7 (18:52):
They go through me.
Speaker 11 (18:52):
You don't have your starting quarterback, and I know Carson
Wentz has done well, and I know Kevin O'Connell can
make things work with the backup quarterback. I'm relying on
that with this pick, along with Brian Force and that defense.
But I don't contender just because I think they got
a pretty good team and Mcarthury coming.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
Back at some points going to help them be better.
Speaker 7 (19:08):
All right.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
This is an interesting one because the Arizona Cardinals are
in last place in the NFC West at two and two,
but those two losses were on late field, like they
could easily be four and zero, sole contender or pretender
out there in the desert.
Speaker 11 (19:23):
This was tough for me because they are an intriguing
team and there are things about them that I like.
I love the way they respond to Jonathan Gannon and
the way they've been playing some inspired defense. But you
start looking thinking about Kyler Murray is not having any
chemistry with Marvin Harrison junior. That concerns me. Not a
ton of weapons outside of Trade McBride. James Conner is
out now for the season, and that division, Mike, as
(19:45):
you said, like everybody else, is three and one right now.
When Seattle is playing great football. The Rams look tough
and Nyers have these injury issues, but they're going to
be hard to beat when they get healthy. So it's
just I got to say, just I see the Cardinals
being fourth in this division and not being a being
a pretender.
Speaker 6 (20:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
And if you're the Cardinals, the positive you take out
of that game is that eventually late in the game
Kyler and Marvin Harrison Junior did click and you hope
that that carries over after this little extended mini buye
that they had before. I say big bye to Jeffrey Chidea.
Don't forget to check out NFL dot com first read
to check out his entire Contenders and Pretender's article There,
(20:24):
Jeffrey Todea, thank you very much. You are always a
contender when it comes to the Insiders. The Wolf of
Ball Street is up next. That's Wolf with an E
at the end. His name is Cameron Wolf and he
is coming up and talk Browns quarterbacks the up and
down season. Michael Pennix is happing so far and so
much more. Next on The Insiders.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
New Power rankings are out from Eric Edholm over at
NFL Eagles, the defending champs still on top of some
movement out up with Seahawks pop it into the.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Top five for the first time.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Go to NFL dot Com slash Power rankings for the
full list. Right now, it's time here for the Wolf
of Ball Street.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
That's right our camera and wolf.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Who does not just cover the Dolphins even though he's
down there in South Florida. He is one of the
most connected reporters we have cam. What's on your mind?
Speaker 2 (21:27):
What are you hearing right now around the NFL?
Speaker 5 (21:31):
Well, Tom, let's start the Wolf of Ball Street in
Cleveland where a change may be coming soon at quarterback.
I talk with a source who had a good pulse
of this situation who said it it won't be much
longer that Joe Flacco is the quarterback, and the expectation
is Dylan Gabriel will get that shot, maybe even as
soon as this week. Versus the Vikings, the Browns have
(21:53):
kept the mum on this situation. Obviously there's a competitive
advantage of not letting the Vikings know what you're gonna do,
whether this week or next week. They've seen the struggles
of this offense of Joe Flacco, and there is an
onus to get these rookies going. I spoke with Andrew Berry,
the Browns general manager, during camp, and he talked about
the timeline being their own and not everyone else's.
Speaker 7 (22:14):
That timeline may be soon.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
Ownership has made clear that they want to see the
rookies at some point. The Browns are the second worst
offensive football They're one in three, and as one source
told me, no one in Cleveland makes any big decision
solo without ownership. Next, let's go to Philadelphia. Oh so,
let's sorry, let's go to Atlanta actually, where the Falcons
had a bounce back week four, led by Michael Pennix.
(22:38):
I got a chance to talk to Raheem Moorris this week.
He told me that, look, this Michael Pennix is the
real one, not.
Speaker 7 (22:45):
The one we saw last week. He also told me
that this is the.
Speaker 5 (22:50):
Guy who is so poisoning, his approach, so a poise.
Speaker 7 (22:54):
In what we see out there on the field.
Speaker 5 (22:56):
And he said that his message to Michael Pennix going
into the bye week is that you prep for a
long haul, because we're going to be in this for
the fight. Michael Pennix had the pleasure of also having
Zach Robinson, their offensive coordinator, be on the sidelines for
the first game this season, and ultimately he played with confidence,
with speed on a level that we hadn't seen so far.
(23:17):
This season, and as far as Bjeon Robinson, who bought
out Rae Morris, said he's the best player for football,
and people took a sception of that. He looked like
it this past week. And finally, the Philadelphia Eagles, who
a lot of people are talking about AJ Brown and
what he is or is not getting, Let's talk about
the defensive backs. They may be the most best tackling
(23:38):
group in football, starting with Cooper Dejean and Quinnyon Mitchell.
Speaker 7 (23:41):
I talk with their dB.
Speaker 5 (23:42):
Coaches, Christian Parker and Joe Casper. They say they do
tackling drills regularly. They said that every week the offense
and defense both does them. Casper said he does drills
with his group where they tackle him. And in a
league where tackling is a lost art, the Eagles have
brought the physicality and the speed that we have seen
them play well with all season. And as I finished
(24:06):
this ball Street, I got my daughter we wrestling this
entire report, and she just came back from dance and
decided to make her own appearance in the Wall Street.
So forgive me if I was trying to, you know,
figure out which team was next, because I was trying
to figure out how to keep my daughter off camera.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
The Wolves of ball Street right there, Cam's got all
the goods, just doesn't have a lock on his door,
Thank you very much, Mike.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
They find a way to get through the locks as well.
They just they get they get in.
Speaker 11 (24:41):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
The Jets, Yeah, the zero to four started for the
first time since twenty twenty. I'm hearing from plenty of
my Jet fan friends, same old Jets. Actually, some of
them think that they're worse off right now. Eron Glenn,
the head coach who preached cleaning up the mistakes and
yet team has not been able to do that, had
a night to sleep on it, or probably not sleep
on it. Here's what he had to say on Tuesday.
Speaker 12 (25:05):
We cannot turn over the ball and expect to win
those games. We have to continue to emphasize taking the
ball away again. There are a number of things we
can look at when it comes to the reason we lost,
but that's the thing. For the most point, when you
look at it, is the key that we lost that game.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
So ball to get on in here. Because I didn't
expect the Jets to be a playoff contender this year,
its first year on their head coach. That's fine, you
don't even put that on them anyway. But this looks bad.
Like this looks really and especially, like I said, some
of the stuff Aaron Glenn's been talking about all summer,
they're just doing week in and week out. How do
(25:40):
you assess this.
Speaker 9 (25:42):
Well, I mean, we were out there, you know, in
Flora Park to summer Mike, and you know, Aaron Glenn
had officials out there at every practice. They didn't have
it here before. They budgeted the officials. They wanted to
clean it up. But last night, you know, we saw
illegal shifts, we saw pre snap motion, we saw a
delay of game, all the stuff that we saw a
year ago.
Speaker 6 (26:02):
You know, we saw a lot of bad football.
Speaker 9 (26:04):
I mean, the fumbles are terrible, you're you know, and
they have not They're the only team in the league that.
Speaker 6 (26:10):
Hasn't taken the ball away in four games so far.
Speaker 9 (26:14):
And so now if you're zero and three right there
and you can't you know, and you're not taking it
away to try to balance.
Speaker 6 (26:19):
It out, you're not going to win those games.
Speaker 9 (26:21):
But you know, the thirteen penalties just some of the
poor decisions, like Isaiah Williams fielding the punt at the
three yard line. Might come on, we could go over
to Edison High School, all right, or you know, down
to Newman High School in Philly. They're not feeling the
ball at the three yard line. I mean, it's just
it's just a silly mistake. And then even you know
Tanner Instrom's play call in the third quarter, it's third
(26:44):
and six at to fifty and they're handing it off
to Isaiah Adams, Like, you're not doing that when you're
losing twenty four to ten in this league. You're throwing
it to go get the first down. You know, they
gain nothing on it, and they got to punt the
ball away. There's just some decisions. Honestly, every Jet fan
I'm out here to just rant, I mean every Jet
fan is saying the exact same thing today and that Okay,
(27:07):
you got to clean it up.
Speaker 6 (27:08):
We know that, but how are you going to do it?
Speaker 9 (27:11):
Because it's going to be a drastic turnaround from turning
it over in every game to kickoff returns that have
led to fumbles that have led to scores. You know
against Pittsburgh week one and then yesterday, two different returners.
Speaker 6 (27:26):
Like there's a constant thing right.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
There, Yeah, I laughed there because Baldy mentioned Newman in Philly,
that's my alma mater. Me and Christian Barmore were both
cash and checks from the NFL Is Moore Zeros in
his But look, you know week one I covered that
game Jets Steelers, and I said, oh, this Jet seems
gonna be fun, and they're gonna be competitive. They're gonna
play hard, and they're going to push them teams to
(27:49):
the brinks and potential playoff teams to the brink. We
haven't seen it since and Aaron Glenn at this point
after the game in Miami, there's a posts on social
media from reporters who were in the press conferce room say,
we can year Aaron Glynn screaming through the walls at
the players in the locker room, and it's like, you're
going to get to a point where if they're not
responding to this kind of stuff, we're going to start
(28:11):
to have some hard questions. And trust me, the people
around the league are already asking me because they have
a vested interest, whether they're coaches or coaching agents or whatnot.
We're not there yet, Like, let's be clear, we're not
there yet. But if this continues and you don't get
that kind of responsible, at some point, we're going to
be there and have those hard conversations.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
Right Yeah.
Speaker 9 (28:30):
Well, I mean, ultimately it's what he's decision, Whatdy Johnson,
you know, the owner, So it's going to be his decision.
But I mean he's looking at the same thing that
he saw a year ago. Now, there are some that
they ran for two hundred yards. They gained one hundred
yards more than Miami. But the things that get you
beat in this league are penalties, you turnovers, and you're
not taking the ball.
Speaker 6 (28:49):
Away, You're going to get beaten no matter what you do.
You know, the offensive line.
Speaker 9 (28:54):
Is run blocking pretty good, like that was a pretty
good effort last night, and they took the ball right
down the field. It's a shame that, you know, Brailn
fumbles there going into the end zone trying to you know,
stay on his feet and it gets punched out. But
those are things that you've got to preach every day
about ball security. Five points of pressure. I could go
through every single thing I've ever seen in any coaching
(29:15):
clinic I've ever been to about how to keep that
thing strapped to your body. So but you know that
got loose and it got away from him and it
was you know, it was a big turnaround in the
game last night.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
If you've ever dreamed about what the perfect lineup in
a fantasy football match of my look like, well this
is what it would have been last week. I had one, two,
two of those guys. Ashton Jenty the breakout performance, get
a two hundred fifty two points, or you could have
started this lineup, the imperfect lineup. I had one of
those guys too, Luther Burden the third. I bought the
(29:48):
come off of his breakout performance. He delivered in my
league negative point four points because we don't do PPR,
and it helped cost me the game.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
Mistakes were made.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
I'll try to avoid them this week with help from
Inside with Fantasy Live with our guy Michael f Florio. Okay,
waiver wires are open in a lot of leagues right now.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Michael leff.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
If I'm looking for a quarterback, who should I be targeting?
Speaker 13 (30:11):
The same person we were talking about on this show
last week, Jackson Dart. He only threw for one hundred
and eleven yards this past week, he still scored twenty
Fantasy points because he can run, a rushing touchdown of
fifty four rushing yards, and he had a near forty
yard rush called back due to penalty.
Speaker 10 (30:30):
That right, there was another four points.
Speaker 13 (30:31):
He could have had three red zone carries, lots of
design runs.
Speaker 10 (30:36):
Plus we know he has a strong arm. We saw
him lead college football and yards on deep passes.
Speaker 13 (30:40):
The Giants are going to be trailing in games, I promise,
so he's gonna have to air it out more. I
think Jackson Dart brings the most upside of any waiver
wire quarterback.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
Okay, I would like to have everyone out there except
for the people in my league listen to this next
piece of advice, because sorry, the rest of my league,
this guy is unavailable on a cat. I picked him
up last week. Go running back, Woody Marx.
Speaker 10 (31:04):
He's on the outsiders already. He should be on a
lot of your teams.
Speaker 13 (31:07):
I was saying last week, Tustashum, but if you didn't
get ready to spend that fab now, I think fifty
to sixty percent of your fab budget if you.
Speaker 10 (31:16):
Have it, your number one waiver wire claim.
Speaker 13 (31:18):
He went for one hundred and twenty yards and two touchdowns.
What I really like, not only did he take over
the groundwork. We're seeing him be used as a weapon
in the passing game, and that makes him not be
gamescript relat kind of like Nick Chubb was when he
was starting here. So I think Woody Marx brings a
lot of upside. He is the unquestioned, in my opinion,
top waiver wire pickup of the week.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
And by the way, I'm such a genius. How did
it start him?
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Sorry? Hey, you got him though, Mike.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
At this point, in this point in the season, Michael,
if you're looking for a wide receiver, you're looking there
a bunch of guys who are projected to score like
three points. Gay, give me a deep cut somebody with
some upside. Do you think is worth picking up off
the waiver wire?
Speaker 6 (31:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (32:00):
I have to go a little deeper.
Speaker 13 (32:01):
This week, but I like Isaiah Bond from the Cleveland Browns.
We saw Cedric Tillman go on ir and Bond was
their wide receiver two after Tillman left last week. He
was previously the wide receiver three last week's second most
snaps and targets, and he led the Browns in receiving yards.
He is a really fast wide receiver who has a
(32:22):
lot of after the catchability.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
He fell in.
Speaker 13 (32:25):
The draft because of off the field stuff, probably like
a third fourth round talent though, and just lots of
speed on a team that has.
Speaker 7 (32:32):
A lot of targets up for grabs.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
He fell all the way through the draft as an
undrafted free agent, and once he got his legal clearance
signed with the Browns tight end position. We're still good
with Trey McBride. That was your suggestion, so I'm still
hanging on to him. But if you don't have that
solid tight end, who are you looking at in the way?
Rewire Darren Waller, Welcome back to the NFL. Big fellow look.
Speaker 13 (32:54):
In his first game in what nearly two years, he
scored two touchdowns and seventeen Fantasy points. He was the
fourth best tight end in Fantasy in Week four, and
he did so on very limited snaps and routes.
Speaker 10 (33:08):
Clearly, he looks like the.
Speaker 13 (33:10):
Go to guy for the Dolphins in the red zone
and end zone, but I expect his usage to increase,
and the Dolphins without Tyreek Hill, there is suddenly a
lot of targets up for grabs.
Speaker 10 (33:20):
Plus, Waller was lining.
Speaker 13 (33:21):
Up as a wide receiver, so he is my favorite
tight end. But look there's plenty of other names out there,
so like like Mason Taylor at tight end, Darius Slayton.
Lots of names out there for however deep of the
league you are in. I have a whole thread on
my Twitter account if you need more Waiver Wire names.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
We are a little over forty eight hours away from
the start of Week five, and what a good one
to kick things off. The forty nine ers and Rams Well,
Brett Pertty be out there deal with toast soreness again.
If not, I'm sure we can just Ai mac Jones
to that promo sometime before Thursday Night. Let's welcome in
Sam Schwarzstein, Prime Video, Thursday Night Football's analytics expert, to
(33:58):
go deep into the matchup. Sam, Let's start out with
one guy who absolutely is gonna be on the field,
and I'm sure producing Poka Nacoua is off to another
unbelievable start. Matthew Staffer says, he's lucky to be throwing
to that guy. Give me the deep take of what
we're seeing right now from PoCA.
Speaker 14 (34:14):
Yeah, we know how he's doing with just yards, leading
the NFL in yards, but it's the situational football metrics
that make him stand out even more. His receiving EPA
is thirty six point six. For context, number two in
the NFL all mon wrestling brown he is at twenty nine.
Number three is Jackson Smith and Jigba at nineteen. The
league average is around six point three. This guy can
(34:36):
do it all and what thing rely on. He gets
a target rate of forty two percent, meaning when he's
on the field, that's where Matthew Stafford's looking. Forty two
percent of the time. He can run dig routes, which
is that in breaker he runs that twenty three percent
at a time league averages six point three. He stands
out all on his own and he didn't even run
the ball. What he does different than everyone else is
he finds a way to be open for Stafford on
(34:57):
every single play. And what Stafford wants to do is
make sure that he feeds his boy so that this
Rams offense can keep humming. It's important for those fantasy fans.
On a yards per round run, he's at four point three.
That magic number for all us nerds is four point zero.
He's the top one hundred or at one point six yards.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
The Rams lean on Poka much the same way the
forty nine ers who basically have no one else left
or leaning on.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Tell me about what you've seen in terms of his
start these first four weeks.
Speaker 14 (35:26):
Yeah, the Stanford Legends making up for more than enough
players on this injured San Francisco offense. He's used on
forty two percent of the offensive plays for the San
Francisco forty nine ers this season. That's by far the
highest of any player. He's been targeted forty three times,
so he's as a thirty four point four percent target rate.
That's the third highest of any pass catcher trilling only
(35:48):
Poka Nakua and Jackson Smith and Jigba. They are able
to leverage him in the run game with his speed
line scrimmage. He's probably the most downhall runner in the NFL,
just trying to get those chunk yards on. But even
on places where he's at the original target, like last week,
he's the hook and ladder target. They want to get
the ball in his hands in so many different ways
because he's the guy that they can rely on. And look,
(36:10):
this usage it cannot continue throughout the rest of the year.
This would be an historical run for him. They need
to get some guys back healthy. And this short week
he's really going to have to step up for the Niners.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
He's going to be going up against the Rams defense
that especially upfront, is really young and really really talented.
What are the Rams do They can give a team
like this fits?
Speaker 14 (36:31):
Yeah, Tom, If either it's brock Purty, Ai brock Purty
or Mac Jones, it doesn't matter who it's going to
be back there. Their Rams are going to get pressure
and that's what they really want to want to major
in their defense is minus point one two epa per play.
That's the fifth best in the NFL. That means they're
creating all these negative plays. They're situationally one of the
(36:51):
best football teams and it's all tied to their pressure.
They have the fourth best pressure rate at forty five percent.
That's now second in the NFL in sacks, and they
do it by committee. They have a sack leader in
Byron Young, but hey, guys like Jared Verse, who man,
I'm so happy I'd never made the NFL because playing
a guy like him, he just gives offensive lineman fits
(37:11):
because he's able to run through your chest any moment.
And then they're also able to make great plays at
the end of the game. This interception that sealed the
game for them. They have three interceptions on the season,
so they are able to generate the big plays. Focus
on getting after the quarterback and giving them fits. And
that's whatever whoever lines up at quarterback for the Niners
is going to have to deal with this front.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
You can watch Sam schwartzteing every Thursday night on Prime
Vision with Next Gen Stats. Alternate Stream Thursdays covers forty
nine ers rams on Prime Video. All kicks off seven
pm Eastern Time. He's also with us every week except
for next week because a very important personal day. If
you run all the analytics, Sam to figure out exactly
what the best time is to have a baby in
(37:54):
the middle of the.
Speaker 14 (37:55):
Football season, No, if I would use the analytics on that,
we want to be having something one on this week.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
That is a great point, Sam. Thank you very much.
We will talk to you in a couple of weeks here.
Good luck with everything there as well. If you haven't already,

Speaker 2 (38:53):
Four terms. Hey mcfangio, anything on your mind?
Speaker 15 (38:56):
You know what you guys have missed. Not to shoe,
but everybody is. You know, we gave up a sixty
five yard field goal and a fifty eight yard field goal.
These kicking balls that they changed this year have drastically
changed the kicking game field goals in particular. So it's
(39:17):
almost like they need an asterisk here, like it was
the live ball era, or the asterisk for those home
runs Bonds and Sosa Maguire were hitting.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
I'm having flashbacks to remember during the early stages of
the flake Gate, before it even had a name, when
Bill Belichick spent the playoff bye week running tests and
putting balls in a sauna and different stuff here. Vic
Vig's got Vic's got some interesting ideas here, Mike, What
do you.
Speaker 6 (39:45):
Think I get it?
Speaker 4 (39:46):
Vic's trying to keep points off the board and they're
hitting them from these distances. But I will say this,
fifty yard field goals fifty plus seventy five percent last year,
seventy four percent this year, and sixty one made last year,
fifty plus or more fifty six this year, so it's
actually down year over year. The rules change, we were
focused so much on the touch push band that didn't
(40:08):
go through this one did. The kickers can now use
the balls they're going to use in the game the
entire weeks you get to break them in. This was
proposed by the Ravens Special Teams. Senior Special Teams coach
Randy Brown proposed this. They had co signers with teams,
the Browns, the Texans, the Raiders, the Vikings, the Commanders,
and Vic.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
By the way, the Eagles were.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Co sponsors for that rule change right there, friend, Just
to be clear, VIC is just referring to the balls,
which was also part of baseball's steroid era. The balls
were also juice, but the players looked a little different.
The kickers still predominantly you know, guys built more like me.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
Which I appreciate when I won my side.
Speaker 4 (40:50):
Yeah, Vick is right about one thing.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Go, fellies, let's go ring that bell.
Speaker 6 (40:57):
We'll see tomorrow.
Speaker 11 (40:58):
Life
