all right, I get to that. Mic. Oh, I have to.
I told somebody there this weekend that I was gonna
do this at the top of the show. Okay, alright, O, respect,

(02:32):
you know what I mean. I'm sorry. I said the
Seattle Seahawks will beat the h double hockey sticks out
of you. Guys. You guys ended up. Yeah. I remember
somebody that you worked with in Carolina saying that Carolina
is gonna win. Um, young youngket don't let me get
into the real. Let me get into the real. Okay,

(02:56):
let's get all right, so you got that out the
way us up, reach out to us. This is the
R and B show. T d Let's get some heat.
Oh it sounds like I'm pulling up to the car
wash in that leg. Uh ohoo. Mount West Coasting always

(03:22):
doing the most and I cracked. But I'm up boasting.
I got the heat and the bread. What you call that?
Put the toast in. Oh when that heat drop, spit
in real fire. You know them heat rocks old school,
just like the spitting for us. Don't stop stop, won't

(03:43):
stop like Diddy. They being Mike in every single city. Oh,
now about coast to Caroline. We're in front of you
and you behind us, y'all. I thought we wrote that
because I did that behind things right before he said it.
It's just I knew what was happening. We going on, man, know, Nate,
Let's get it to something we got going out to

(04:03):
the man. You know, I don't read good start on
this show. Let's let's jump right into it. Let's go
with the R and B hot line. I figured we
can do that right out today we got three questions,
So um t D dropped the R and B hotline
him D, I'm wondering, like the Seahawks past weekend, what's

(04:25):
the atmosphere like inside the locker room after a bad
first chest. Hey. I don't know if I'm just such
a eighties baby, but the R and B hot line
to me is one of the dopest aspects of our
with the beat behind is the girl six Girl six?
Surrand come man? Yeah, but yeah, I like I like

(04:48):
the R B hotline. So Ashley from d C right,
I got that right. Shout out to Ashley for calling
in V. So I was watching the game, and I'm
reading the tweets and and I remember somebody tweeting the
whole time, what is the coaches. What are the coaches
gonna tell Seattle in the locker room? And I just
responded back, you know, and they only got a hundred
and forty characters. So I said, he needs to walk in.

(05:08):
The First thing he has to say is if they
can score thirty one points in one half, we can
score thirty one points in one half. Now, it's easier
said than done. But right after gate, you gotta shock
your guy's mental and build them back up, because in
that locker room, as you know, when you down that
much a halftime in the playoffs, there's a lot of fingerpointing.

(05:28):
There's a lot of guys questioning the play calling. There's
a lot of guys questioning even their own talents. So
you gotta build guys back up right after gate. They
you hit it, you hit it right on. And I
was with this organization when we went seven and nine
and got into the playoffs and we won a very
good football team, and they half times back then we're
just like that. It was me and Marshawn snapping on

(05:52):
the officersive line off the line saying, you ain't getting
no trips from you, just that in the third Matt
half back, ain't getting no protection to bars. Jackson lay
torn the defenses all over the place especially, and it
was a lot of that. But I tell you one
thing it changed in twenty eleven with Tom Cable can
okay changed And what I know happened in that locker
room at halftime was the coaches laughed and said, all right, guys,

(06:18):
this is the adversity we're we're up against. The pedigree
started to kick in the fact that they had been
in this position before, had started to kick in the
fact that you have a quarterback who has an undeniable
belief and will to win. That's your leader. And then

(06:39):
you look at the defensive side of the ball and literally,
I trust me, my I hung out with more defensive
guys and offensive guys. That's a whole another story. But
all eleven or all probably fourteen, when you talk about
subs and guys coming in fourteen fifteen, guys believed defensively
that they were gonna go out and in this game,

(07:00):
you're you're you're a lightweight defensive guy at heart, right, Well,
because I really believe in the defensive mentality. And if
the offensive guy got a defensive mentality, you wanna stop him.
You just feel what I'm seeking to the quiet right now.
But I know Tom Cable came in. He looked the
offensive line. He said, you guys are getting your kicked. Okay,
shape up or get embarrassed facts. But hey, but you

(07:23):
know after the coaching though, after the coaching, that's when
the leader's gotta step up, because I remember moments throughout
my career where guys would light up the team, and
sometimes it was more criticism than it was, you know,
positive reinforcement. I remember Dante Copepper coming in one halftime,
and you know he's from O Califlorida, so he come

(07:44):
and be like, hey, hey, listen, we gotta get this together,
and y'all better believe that I'm gonna go outre I'm
gonna do my job. If y'all do your job, stay
in the locker room and nature right, because look, the
great ones they understand when things are going great. If
they were up thirty one zero at halftime, they would
have walked this alright, Look, guys, we ain't that good?
Yeah at zero zero, you know what I mean? And
the great ones also know when you're down thirty one,

(08:06):
all right, guys, win this bad now. And I've watched
the tape. I've watched the all ts ones, I've watched
the coach and tape. Guys getting out of gap got
there were mistakes that the Seahawks could have fixed. So
you look at them and look at two sides of
the coin. You got Carolina going in, you know, basically
riding high up thirty one points. And what the coaches
should have said is, like you said, we're not that good.

(08:28):
It's not as good as it seems. We got some
things to fix. Let's go out in the second half
and do better, which they almost crumbled because they didn't
score any points. And then on the other side of
the coin, you got Seattle going to halftime basically getting
your doors blown off in the coach a as bad
as it looks, we fixed some things. We can get
some points on the board and have a chance to
win the game. And they almost did. And I tell

(08:48):
you and I tell you one thing. I tell you
one thing. I talked to a lot of the players
after the game FaceTime. A couple of them they really
believe Nate that, oh dog, if we had one more drive,
that game was over. That's fight. That's championship mindset. Okay, cool, Hey,
I'm gonna say before we go into the question number two,
I'm tired of you FaceTime and all these dudes and
not getting them on the show. Okay, so just you know,

(09:09):
saying share, share your get him on the show. Mike
t d chime on the chiming. All right, Hey, come on,
let me get let me get that question number two
from the R and B Hotline. Yo, this is John
from Anna blog dot com from Michigan, and I want
to know I Cam Newton the fasttul threat quarterback of

(09:31):
all time. Oh John from Michigan, and shout out to
them to the Mitten Michigan. I love my people in Michigan. Hey, John,
appreciate you calling in. Hey, that's go ahead, do your thing. Look,
I'm gonna make it real simple for you. Cam Newton
is the best dual threat quarterback our game has ever seen,

(09:53):
and he has the potential to set the bar so
high that there might not be a guy come around
like that for twenty years. And I say that but
just because just simply physically, to be that big, that
agile and to be able to throw the football is
damn the impossible. To build a guy like you can't

(10:15):
even make a guy like that. God said you are
gonna be a superman in the football uniform. And you
you heard me say it before. In the red zone,
he can make the throws in the red zone. The
windows get tighter, so the windows get taller, and so
he can make the hot throws in the tight windows
in the red zone. He also plays eleven on eleven football.

(10:36):
He runs quarterback power and to that extra man you
bring in the box is not gonna tackle him six
six pounds. And I think if he takes the next
step in his development from a mental standpoint as far
as seeing the entire field and playing the game man,
not just playing offense, but playing the game. Tom Brady

(10:58):
and those guys they play the game that there again,
they played chess. You feel what I'm saying. They understand, Hey,
I can take this sack because my defense is doing this. Oh,
I can take this. I know we're gonna take the
ball and over time because just that in the third
you see what I'm saying. They understand the bigger picture,
and Cam has to graduate to that. He's the m

(11:21):
v P this year. He's been the most exciting and
best player in the league this year. And to answer
the caller's question. He might already be the best due
through that quarterback in history, but he will definitely will
be when it's all sating done. Barn injury, Man, you
hit it on the head. I can't really follow up
with much. I played the position. I've been there, bro,

(11:42):
I know what it feels like to draw back and
you can outrun anybody on the field. Come on, come on,
check attacking you. I was asking any lines I didn't
stay this The lineback of the Bengals Ajhawk jump on
Damn Shack Show and said Mike rob was the toughest
quarterback he had to bring down. I'm just saying career,

(12:05):
I'm just saying that it wouldn't be this brother relationship. No, No,
you know people don't necessarily, but I always gotta I
gotta remind him sometimes, you know what I'm saying. But honestly,
and that's why it irks me nate to hear guys
that aren't mobile try to talk about guys and downplay

(12:29):
guys that are. You've never once dropped back and being
able to just say, you know what, I could score
really right here if I want to you dictate coverage.
You know why because they can't play. Man. If they do,
I dropped back in my last step, and I'm what
are you do? When the Seahawks struggled this weekend, what

(12:49):
started happening was they started playing some some some a
little bit, man, But I still hit this last step
and started going. Eating up a yard is next thing?
You know? When the boss napped them linebackers in yeahs
facts and then the passing lanes open up behind you.
I ain't mean to be that long on that answer.
I've been waiting. I've been waiting for somebody need to

(13:10):
hear that. For me, what do you account for forty
touchdowns this year? It was a ridiculous amount. So for me,
I'm gonna say, yes, echoeen everything you said. But more importantly,
his ceiling I can't even see it. I don't know
what his seeming is. This year. His growth was tremendous.
And we're not talking about athletically. I mean he's gonna

(13:32):
continue to get bigger, faster, stronger. He hasn't eve hit
thirty yet, Okay, So I'm talking about his ability to
drive back and be just a traditional pastor. He put
himself in the conversation with Carson Palmer surpassed Peyton Manning
because Peyton Manning is old right now, conversation with Brady
now we're talking about Camp as a thrower, not just
an athletic guy that happens to be playing quarterbacks. So

(13:55):
for me, yes, the answers by far the best dual
threat at the quarterback position in the league round and
we've had Michael Vick, We've had we've had Random Cunningham.
Matter what Cunningham you should do? That was my favorite
And let's put it out there. Russell Wilson, if he
was in the system where they allowed him to do
what he wanted to do, he could probably be that.
He's extremely fast and extremes up there. I take Cam

(14:17):
just takes it to a hole noth I take a
little bit away from Russell just because and this is
never gonna change. And I know my Seahawks fans are
gonna get upset with me. Russell may even be upset
with me, right but his reds on issues will continue
to happen. Um unless they could unless they start feeding

(14:38):
the ball or guy like Jimmy Graham on the side.
Why because he's short and he will never be able
to get over that. In the red zone. But I'm
not saying he can't still doing. With that said, though, Mike,
I feel like they gotta loosen the leash a little bit.
I feel like when they're talking to Cam and here's
the play call, but Cam, do what you do because

(14:59):
when Cam start stiffing that red zone, he's doing whatever
he needs to do to get in there. I gotta
call call you on that one. I gotta call you
if they give us a little bit more flexibility to
run the ball on the red zone. You don't think
I'm gonna call you that. I'm gonna call you on
that one just because. And I gotta say this without
messing up my relationship and putting information out there. That's

(15:20):
how it is. And I noticed for a fact, and
you know what I'm saying that I know for a
fact that the thought has changed in Seattle from everything
going through beast mode to now number three that's your show.
I feel like he just needs to run the ball
more that I know you gotta protect that may be
on him, That's what I'm saying. See what I'm saying,

(15:41):
But he has to pull the chickens opening the offense up.
I do notice for a fact. Yeah, No, I got
you on that. I got you. I'm talking about pulling
a chicken running like Camp because he's athletic and he
can outrun the majority of guys he plays and look.
Shout out and shout out to the Panthers organization right
for being patient with Camp because when Cam first got

(16:01):
into the National Football League, he wasn't ready to be
a franchise quarterback. His potential was there, but he wasn't
ready and they were they he came in. When quarterbacks
are different now, it used to be they used to
wait three or four years and then they were ready.
They threw him in the flames, and we've seen him mature.
He's got the big contract, cultivate that talent. He helped

(16:22):
cultivate the talent, the city, everything about Camp. He's become
a better speaker and he's growing. Just say he became
a better speaker. No, it's not a shot at It's
not a shot at camp. Come on, it's no drink man, Like,
come on't what I'm saying, Mike, Let me talk before

(16:42):
you go off the edge. When you're a rookie, you
don't know how to address the camera, Like you don't
know what the fans need to hear like sometimes you're
brutally honest when you don't need to be talking about
how well. I ain't saying nothing about him being articulately.
I mean, he was always intelligent, even when he's in college.
But to your point, like being the franchise guy, now
he understands like when I get in front of his podium,

(17:03):
I'm going to talk to these people. You know what
I mean, I'm entertaining and engaging. Like he has embraced
the media side of it. I'm saying he became a
better speaking and understanding the landscape of what media brings
to his brand. That's what I mean. The next question,
let's go to the next question. What we got man
r and be hotline. Hi. My name is Maya. I'm
calling from her Way and my question for you is, Um,

(17:25):
both of you guys have played in championship game. Is
there a different type of coreparation for you and yours
before that game? Good question, Good question. I'll tackle this
one first. Uh, there's there's a different preparation, but there
isn't a different approach. So that means every single game

(17:49):
and I don't care if it's preseason I'm looking at
it like it's the last game of my life. And
I would say that to my guys when I'm getting
my pre games speech, I would say, if the world
end it right in years from now, the new generation
came on and found copies of old football games and
they put it in and they watched this game, how

(18:11):
would they rate your effort? Right? That's how you should
think about it. If this is my last game, as
we know, it could end like that, Mike Man. You
can get a neck injury, leg injury, anything can happen.
You can get in the car accident, which I know
outside of the football field. So I would always think like,
if this was my last game, how would I want
this to be seen right and judged? So for me,

(18:33):
if it was preseason, regular season, postseason, I approach it
the same. Now. Preparation is different, though, because you spend
so much more time locked into the moment. When preparing
for your your guys, When preparing for who you're gonna
face the team, You're understanding the weather conditions, you understanding
who's injury who's not, Your understanding your body. Coaches, they

(18:54):
might be a little more tight, so they're definitely gonna
be so so their preparation spills over on you. So
for me, preparation is way different. It's a whole another level.
Approach is still the same. And and honestly, before I
would agree with everything you just said. But when I
first went to the playoffs in it changed for me. Nate.

(19:15):
I ain't gonna be lying. I ain't gonna be a
lie to you. He played in that Saints in that
wild card game, and the tension was so thick It's
like you could cut the air every yard. Tension in
the game. Yeah, in the game, like everything meant something
that It was just I was like, whoa, this is
not a regular season game. But I was so locked in,

(19:37):
as you said, my prep was there so much after
the game and we want I had to ask myself,
why don't I prepare for regular season games like this? Uh,
what's the difference? You have to check yourself a little,
and I had I had a reality check. I had
to check myself, Nate. And so from on the back
half of my career is when I had the most success.

(19:58):
Also Pro Bowl, Super Bowl, all of that, And it
was because from that moment I remember sitting in front
of my locker after beast quake. You know, we pumped
up this and that. I'm sitting in front of my
locker and century linking. I'm like, I need to be
ready like this every time, bro, And so I changed
my preparation. I really bought into that that peat mentality

(20:21):
that every week as a championship. So you know what
my practice had to change. I started practicing better because
I had to get myself ready for a championship opportunity.
And you know, Nate, we don't know it. We don't
know that this little stick route and I got the
outside fly. We don't know that the quarterback on holding
and throw that better. N you better be ready for

(20:42):
your opportunity. And I took that same mentality, bro and
talking about getting ready for championships. Took it to the
regular season. And this is on some real stuff. I
took it to life. Took it to life, Bro. I
started preparing for life situations, preparing for interviews, preparing for

(21:04):
PowerPoint presentations, preparing for speeches that I have around the country,
just like I prepared to play Ray Lewis and fatherhood,
being a husband and all of that. All that an employee, Mike,
we're getting deep. We're getting deep. But that's so when
I go talk to kids, this is what I tell him.
I said that this and everybody wants to be great.
They're al raised an. I said, well, greatness isn't a dimmer.

(21:28):
You can't dim it when you want. You can't have
it as bright as you want it. And then when
it's time for you to do your math, or go
clean up your room, or listen to your parents or
your teachers, you dim it down. Because I'm not that
good at history. I just I don't like it. Nah,
when you look at the greats in this game, you
look at Jordan's and their approach, Lebron and now Steph Curry,
these young guys, Um Russell Wilson, here's everything he does.

(21:50):
It's a switch, bro, So I'll tell him turn the
switch on. You shouldn't have a dimmer in your life
because you can't walk into the playoffs and say, let
me flip this song all of us something. You're gonna
be a different dude, not like to your points, your
learning lesson. You gotta keep that switch on all the time.
And sometimes that russ people the wrong way because you
always turned on. But I don't care for him, always

(22:11):
turned on because I'm always ready to walk through the
door of opportunity when it comes. You know who's like that,
Earl Thomas, And he plays like that girl is like
that so much that people think he's weird sometimes, But
I love or and I get Earl. Earl is always
in the moment. He came out here to do some
interviews on toll access or whatever. He had his otpad
watching film off season, like the money after the season

(22:33):
was over. No, man, I'm still learning. This is it.
That's all I got to do right now. Bucky Brooks
is still mad at Earl Thomas is still mad at
Bucky Brooks because he didn't have him as high on
his draft board to this day. Yeah, and Earlin' gonna
forget it. He's not. He will not feel bucking. It
was like, yeah, you have me on your list kind
of kind of too low. He's still mad about that. That
That I can approve. I knew that. I knew Earl

(22:54):
was the real deal. When Pete came straight in the league.
His first bit well on that first pick, but in
the first round he gets Earl Taylor. Undersized safety Taylor
made Taylor Mays play Telor Maze played for him just
a few months early. And he's from Seattle and he
from so everybody thought that was automatic. Pick I know, Taylor,

(23:14):
but I feel you know what I'm like what you're
saying on that. All right, man, that's what's up man.
He once again, we appreciate the caller's calling in. We
need more of that, as many people to call in.
We just need to do it. Some straight questions from
callers and from the Twitter. We need to We need
to make this a movie. That's what we need. A
Bad Boys four coming out, because they already got Bad
Boys three Bad Boys four with me and we and
Mike so you already, Mike you, Michael Lowry, MIKEE, Marcus Burnett.

(23:37):
All right, that's how we got cool. All right, we
could do that, all right, cool. I'll be the smooth
one now, I asked me. I'm the one, You're the
lower one. All right. Hey, here we go though, another guest,
another play man. Man, we always get guests. Bro, We
got Damn Buchanan. We're speaking to him about the Cardinals,

(23:58):
speaking to him about the playoffs, speaking to him about
him changing the game, changing the position. So check this out.
Joining us now is the young, talented safety, slash linebacker,

(24:18):
slash moneybacker, baller, whatever position you want him to play,
he's gonna play, and he's gonna excel at that, making
the tackle, covering people, leading tackler of the Arizona Cardinals.
Mr Damn Cannon, Welcome to the RB Podcast. Oh Man,
we turned up over here. Man, good to see you, doll. Look,

(24:38):
before we can start, I'm a big fan man. Again,
like I said off camera, man, play full back. It
takes a lot of heart to play in that box. Man.
Great job, great season, bro, Man, that means a lot,
especially coming from both of y'all. Man, y'all got a
big time resume in this league. I appreciate that. Man.
All Right, Now, before we look forward, we gotta look
behind and talk about that game. Aga. It's the Packers. Uh.

(25:01):
First of all, what were you thinking when you saw
Aaron Rodgers let that hail Mary go in the at
the end of the game. Man, honestly, I was really thinking,
just anything possible, you know, just because we already Man,
he already didn't did it before in the Lions game.
And Aaron Rodgers he's a his place spiece for himself.
You know, he's a phenomenal player, and uh, honestly, you know,

(25:24):
we still had our foots on the gas. But you
know when you threw that ball up, you see me,
y'all was running. I was I was gonna bliss him,
you know, just case some plessure, some pressure on him.
But he already got the ball out because he has
a quick release, and uh, you know, he ended up
being a touchdown. They don't. Uh do you think that
maybe you guys should have been more of a prevent
defense as opposed to attack. And even though I like

(25:44):
the style, trust me, I like the attacking the attack
of defense, but sometimes you gotta play the situation. Yeah, yeah,
I mean, um, honestly, you know it was it was
a good I mean, it was a good call by
coach best because I mean, at the end of the day,
when you give a player like that time enough to
you know, to make age, he's still gonna be able
to make up. I feel like the best the best
thing is to do is to create pressure for him

(26:05):
and to get in his face and and hopefully you
don't get a sack out of it, you know. And
like I said, he made a phenomenal play and uh
eighty three, you know, he went up and he got
that ball. Yeah. Man, Now I started off by talking
about being playing linebacker and having all the heart to
be in the box. How do you feel knowing that
teams kind of target you a little because you know
how we watch film too. We know people you know,

(26:25):
get that that little inside zone the game playing for you.
How do you feel about being targeted like that in
the ring game? Man? Honestly, I mean, I just I
just love I love being a physical guy. You know,
That's I just I feel like that's what I bring
to the to the table, you know, as far as
the player is, just being being the downhill physical player
and uh, I take pride and and hopefully being one

(26:48):
of those playmakers that you know people are gonna have
the game plan because that's always been my dream. You know,
this is what God that blessed me to do to
come out here and play football. And I'm thankful for that.
As for the Cardinals and uh, you know, honestly just
want to continue to uh to to have the back
of my teammates and continue to play down here. I'll
continue to be a player that I can be. Man. Now,
talk about your switch the linebacker, Man, you played defensive back, well,

(27:12):
what y'all call it the money backer? Do you feel
like you kind of created your own position? So he's
saying he's a real life creative player. Yeah, yeah, real
life creative guy, you know what I mean. Yeah, it
has started. It has started with coach Balls or with
the jet He's over with the Jets now. Um, he
had threw me in the box. It was kind of
like an experimental kind of thing, and uh, he liked

(27:33):
me being there, you know when I was a rookie,
you know, and honest I played a lot during my
rikie season. They Coach Bett, you know, he he kind
of embraced the role and allowed me to do a
lot of different other things, going outside, you know, going
outside the box, being able to go out and cover
you know, sometimes I'm in I'm in a nickel spot
at times. Um and um, it just depends on what
information is being able to spire on quarterbacks like Russell

(27:54):
Wilson show Now and and Camp. I mean, you know,
just faster, faster guys. You know. So I'm just know,
I'm blessed that they made a place for me because
I'm kind of like when I came in, I was
kind of like that Twitter you know, do you wanna
put me I'm saying exactly, you know, put more and
put more weight on them and make them into a
linebacker or you know, or just have them strictly as
a defensive back. And I'm just thankful that here in

(28:15):
Arizon Cardinals that they allowed me to do have best
best of both worlds. Which one would you prefer? Would
you prefer safety or a linebacker? I love being around
the ball, you know, you like? Yeah, all right, I
got a question about that because I remember at the
beginning of the season, everybody was talking about you being
undersized and how teams are gonna game plan for you

(28:38):
and you're not gonna be as effective. One The question
is do you hear that when people were saying those things,
and is that motivation? Yeah? I definitely, I definitely heard it.
I mean it's kind of hard not to, you know,
you try to stay away from you know, esp and
all me if it's hard to do that, you know,
I heard it, and you know, it definitely feels my fire,
you know, because, uh, the one thing I hate people

(29:00):
said I can't do something, you know, and uh, you know,
just you know, it definitely fueled it for me and uh.
You know, so each and every game, you know, I
just I go in with a triple on my trip
on my shoulder and just go out there and you know,
just just bought from my teammates and the end of
the day and just uh and just glorify God name
God's name through that's amen to that. Now. The dB
still claiming that's one of their own. And the leader

(29:22):
of that group is Patrick Peterson and he's had a
tremendous year. And when I played with the Minnesota Vikings,
you know, I had a mentor in Randy Moss, arguably
one of the best receivers of all time. So I
used to follow him and mimic him, and what he
said was golden to me. You know what I'm saying.
I shut my mouth, opened my eyes, and open my
ears to him. Um, what does Patrick Peterson taught you?
And how has he influenced your game? Right? Yeah? Man? Huge?

(29:44):
Just like you said, when he talks, it's it's all ears.
You know. He understands this game on such a such
an advanced level that is crazy. But he was actually
the one that told me that I was gonna make
the transition into the box, you know, So he was
the Yeah, he was one. He was the first one.
He was the one to tell me he was you know,
straight on. And he's the one that is still the
confidence you know, uh within me letting me know, you

(30:07):
know what I need to do, you know. Yeah, you know, yeah,
from the beginning, from the straight beginning, he let me
know he's and he had faith in me. And you
know when you got a guy that has the resume
as his in the league and he comes to you
and he tells you that we need you at this
spot and we need you and I know he can
do it, you know, honestly, just you know, you know,
it inspired me, you know, and and yeah, it really

(30:29):
help me. Now there's another guy on this defense. Um uh,
Tyron Matthew who kind of you know, people say he
kind of invented his own position to I mean, he's
in the slide, he's at safety, can cover like a corner,
he hits, he's everywhere, right, Um, talk about how the
team felt and what you guys went through as an
adjustment with losing a guy that's so important to your defense,

(30:51):
right yeah, I mean no one man can can replace
can replace Tie, you know, like like you said, he
does he does everything and he he need uh, he
provides you know, a leadership factor as well, you know.
So I mean it wasn't about replacing him, because you
can't do that, It's impossible. You know. It was just
being as a team then just understand that we gotta

(31:11):
do our jobs that much better. You know, we gotta
all just be in line and you know, the next
man up, you know, uh, you know Gerard Powers, you
know JP. He he has a resume in this league
as well, you know, playing nickelback, play starting that corner.
So you know, he's a baller as well. And but
like I said, nobody can replace nobody can replace time,
you know, just because of the type of player and

(31:31):
he is the type of person he is. Now we
uh we spoke about Aaron Rodgers greatness earlier and coming
up this weekend, you guys are facing another young great
quarterback in Cam Newton. I don't want you to give
away your game plan, but take us into into the
film room on how you prepare for a guy like
Cam Newton. Yeah right, I mean, um, he could do everything,

(31:52):
you know, if we're just gonna be honest, you know,
he can run the ball, he's ThReD with his legs.
He's there. You can make all the you can make
all the throws, and he also has the weapons to
do it, and he understands his office, you know. And
but honestly, I feel like you just gotta be disciplined
with him, you know you I feel like you gotta
be aggressive. But it's kind of like a aggressive discipline.
You know, you can't do too much, you know, once
you get out your once you get out your job

(32:14):
is when he capitalizes on it, you know, because he's reh.
You know, That's how I feel. You know, when he's
reading everything is based off him, He's reason. He reading
off what you're doing, reading off with your mistakes. Is So,
I mean, I feel like for all we play, the
type of defense we can play, we're gonna match up
real well. So you know, it's kind of crazy because
you look at this matchup and then you look at
day on it and what he's good at Mike right

(32:35):
that day an I'm gonna ask you, is it almost
your talents is a well fit matchup for a guy
like Cam Newton, Like you created your own possession moneybacker,
being lean, tall, fast, powerful, all the things that you
do well, it's almost like the perfect matching for Camra
Cam six six two five. I'm just saying, but I'm
saying like something game like, you know, I'm gonna be

(32:58):
a big part of the sense of this defense because
what I do well could almost you know, nullified with
Camp as well. Yeah, I mean honestly, you know, I
go into the game hoping I can be a big
part of the defense no matter what we're playing. So,
you know, like the coaches that do a great a
great job of game playing, whether it's gonna be me,
you know, having a big pardon maybe spine Cam Newton,

(33:19):
and we haven't got to that yet, but you know,
I just I just want to be wherever they tell
me to be, you know what, I'm gonna do it
to the best of my ability. But at the same time,
like you said, like I feel like it's a it's
a tremendous opportunity just just based off you know, the
NFC Championship, you know, the it's two fantastic teams, you know,
and uh not taking anyway anything away from them. You know,
We're just gonna go out there and we're gonna continue

(33:40):
to you know, put our our best players on their
best players We're gonna throw that ball out there and
go see what happens. What's up? So I'm gonna switch
it a little bit. Talk about Bruce arians Man, talk
about playing for him, man, I mean, he seems like
the most fun, like the most fun fun coach in
the in the National Football League. I'm got a serious side, dad.
He even sounds like black Like he sounds like one

(34:01):
of us. I've just been honest, but you're laughing. He dude, Man,
he sounds like your brother. Man. Like, just talk talk
about how he relates to you, guys, man, because he
seemed like he's a real cool dude. Man. Yeah, no,
he does, you know, in every aspect. Man, I love
coach b A. You know, he he's real life players coach.
You know, he understands and he understands where where you
come from. You know, you understands everybody's background, you know,

(34:24):
and can relate with everybody you know. And that's that's yeah,
you know, and that's that's a big thing, you know.
And and when you got a coach like that, that
just allows you and watching do you want to play
that much harder because you know it means a lot
to him. And at the end of the day, He's
not gonna ship back and be like, oh, this is
all me. He's gonna point it back to his players
and he's gonna be like, no, you know, I just this,
this is my players, you know. And uh, I feel

(34:45):
like that's just a big thing with him. He when
you when you talk to him, it's not like you're
talking to a coach, and you know, it's like you're
talking to you know, when he when you're friends, you know,
when he one of your homies. You know. So then
when when you got a coach like that, it makes
it makes makes wicking up, you know, do on what
you love even easier. Man. He's authentic. Man, That's what
I like him. Now. When I was young and y'all

(35:06):
got drafted and oh three, I don't know, you might
have been an elementary back there. But but there was
two times in my career where I start struck. And
this is the truth. When I first saw Randy Moster
the first time because I was a huge fan, and
then when I lined up against Dion Sanders. Um, those
are the two times in my career where star struck.

(35:26):
Have you have you had those moments yet playing against
somebody or even guys in your locker room. That's a
good question. Um, I wouldn't say, I wouldn't say star struck,
but I would say, um, you know how you always
game playing, you go into the game, you want to
know if they were the real deal, and uh, Adrian Peterson,
Adrian Peterson was definitely that was That was when I

(35:47):
when we lined up against him, that was one of
the guys where it's just like, yeah, this man is everything.
Everybody's been talking about that, No doubt about it, no
doubt about it. His vision is crazy. Man. That's what's
up man. Now, this is the R and B Show,
so we love to talk about music. So I want
to know what is don listening to pre game? And

(36:10):
what is your your casual playlist? And then third, who's
the best rapper alive? That's a good question. We're putting
you on the spot, bro man, Uh shoot, pre game,
I mean I like Jake cool, you know, I feel
like Ja Cole. It's just like it's not he got

(36:30):
some stuff where he's going, you know, and sometimes it's
just like all right, I'm just mellow. I'm gonna chill out,
you know what. I'm not getting too low exactly, you know,
and uh, best rapper alive. I mean, I feel like
the best in the game right now is is Drake.
You know you got you gotta get yeah, you gotta yeah,
I gotta give Drake. Give it to Drake, you know,
uh shoot yeah yeah. Since you on the lines of

(36:55):
talent and being the best in the game, Uh, what's
something that people don't know about day on? Is there
some hidden talents that you got? I feel like every
football player got something that he'd rather be doing, right,
something that you're nice said that most people don't know.
I probably wouldn't rather be doing it. But I played
I played golf in high school, so I mean I

(37:15):
got a little yeah. Yeah, yeah, that's not not a
lot of people know that. But hold up. So speaking
to golf Patrick Peterson, when I hear the truth together,
he's really yeah. I've golf with quite a few times. Yeah,
now he's Patrick Peterson is the real deal? Hips Broye.

(37:36):
That's what's up? Man? Hey, Well listen, man, we appreciate
you joining us. I'm gonna be in Charlotte at the game.
I'm gonna have my kids out there, so I'm gonna
you know your name, dog, I'm gonna be a famous.
Look man, they be trying to use this man to
get it to say that I snatched my suit. You

(37:56):
wanna passed me. I'm a trip you on the way.
I'm gonna say, what's up for sure? TV? You gotta
beat Bro, give us an outro beat man Day on
my freestyle a little bit. Oh you have a good one, man,
good luck to good luck. Appreciate you alright, Bro, Bro,
appreciate Day for joining us. Dude is a baller, mom

(38:18):
one like dude. Dude is like he invented a position
in the NFL, in the in the NFL, and he's
not your size. Man. So um, as we head out
of here, we're gonna break down these games, conference championship games.
That's what we do. A t that's gonna beat before
we do that. Yeah, oh uh yeah, that's hot. That's hot.

(38:52):
That is a fabulous beat, Bro, like fab I know TD,
I know TVs type. You always get a beat that
grab you right out the gate, right, but there's always
a subtle dropping. Sometimes you come in hard like that.
One got to like he loves that stuff. That's hot,
that's his lane. That's hot, right, I can appreciate that man,

(39:15):
that's talk about these these matchups. Hey, let's talk about
these matches. Let's start. I'm not a look in the
let''m gonna be honest with you. I'm not gonna pick
a winner right now. That's cool. I don't I don't
want to All y'all people out there on Twitter, don't
get at me for now breaking down the game is
just as good as people want to break it down.
So let's talk about the Patriots versus the Broncos. Let

(39:37):
me re emphasize versus the Broncos in Denver. Yeah, and
Brady and Brady what you know, he didn't have a
great record in Denver Um, but it is still is
Tom Brady and they Julian, It's still okay. Cool. Julian
Edelman being back has totally changed the game They're they're

(39:58):
tending over with Julian is like totally changed thing that
out there. The average just under hundred yards with Julian
on the field, rushing like he affects the game and
different so many different ways. But I look at him,
look at the Broncos here and saying that if they
can't run the football Sunday, they may lose by a

(40:19):
lot of like thirty points. Bro mm hmmm, because the
reason they won the game the first time was because
they ran football facts. Brock Oswalder was the quarterback. Facts
back Oswalder has a totally different skill set in Peyton
man facts. Peyton Manning did look a little bit more
fresh in this last game. He looked better. But any

(40:44):
I challenge any football person to look at the film
and see his throw and tell me if you think
that's a strong arm for the playoffs. I don't think
anybody would challenge you on that, but might challenge you
and say it doesn't need to be strong when you
are accurate, and he was. There was some drop balls

(41:06):
about it. Drop balls in the game. He was hitting
guys in the hands, it was and a couple of
passes that he missed, remember he missed one deep. He
overthrew somebody. So for me, that was kind of reassuring
that he wasn't underthrowing individuals. But the one thing, the
one thing I'm concerned about Peyton Manning is that because

(41:26):
of his age in the injuries he's had to deal
with over the last couple of years, is that he
telegraphs his throws, which early in the season he was
already making his mind up, staring down guys and trying
to get the ball out early because he knew his
arm strength wasn't there. He couldn't wait that extra split
second and laser it in. Because of that, teams were
identifying where he was going his targets and jumping the

(41:50):
gun and picking balls off. So he did a great
job because he didn't turn the ball over. That was
the ultimate concern, right, Um, is Payton gonna come in
and turn them ball over? So I think the two
things that they can't do Pat and I just don't believe.
Two things they can't afford to do Mike is have
a lack of production in the running game and turn
the ball over. That's a recipe for and again for

(42:14):
Belichick knows that they can't have a run game. And
Bill Belichick knows that he can challenge Payton who the
Broncos played his passwork the Broncos, they they beat so
many games, so many games stealers that Yeah, Steelers, dude,
you cannot keep giving these receivers of the Denver Broncos

(42:35):
free access. When I say free access, people, I mean
playing off him like ten yards. Payton is gonna just
do a speed out and they got eight, they got nine,
and he could throw those all day. And you know
what New England's gonna do. They're gonna hold the box
for the run. They're gonna put hands on the receipt.
They're gonna put hands on the receivers that make Payton
do his normal. You know that when you're doing this,

(42:56):
when you keep hopping up in the air looking like
he on hot potators or something, They're gonna make him
do that, you know what I'm saying. To do that
all the time, and you don't either get sacked. I
always gonna throw interceptions. You need your quarterback to go
out there and make plays. And then not to mention,
you got Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Tom Brady and Belichick

(43:17):
who was arguably one of the best, and they'll beat
you anyway you want. So I'm gonna give my pick
just because you know, I don't really care about giving picks,
and I've been, you know, pretty good this year. I
got the Patriots winning this and it's gonna be fairly close,
but then they'll extended lead in the fourth quarter. So
I got the Patriots. I don't want to pick it yet.
But let's just say, I think the Broncos got some injury,

(43:39):
got some issues, and I look at the running backs.
You take away that that long run by C. J. Anderson.
They got what thirty carries for like seventies something on.
All right, Hey, let's move on. So the Cardinals versus
the Panthers in Carolina, this is one of the more
exciting games of the weekend out of the two. You know,
I feel like the first game could be like, you know,

(44:00):
a cloud of dust game and it's just one of
those battles. This one could be very explosive. You got
the Arizona Cardinals, who, like I've been saying all year,
just like an open bar, they're taking shot shot shots
all day long. Even if you know they're gonna take
shots downfield, they're still gonna take shots downfield. And then
they got the running back David Johnson, who is a

(44:20):
young monster. And then defensively, we we just talked with
Dawn Buchanan. Uh, you got Patrick Peterson, Class Campbell. They
got some workhorses defensively. So if there's a team that's
built to go out and shock one of the best
teams this year, which is the Carolina Panthers. It's the
Arizona Cardinals. You right, You're right, and they they take
shots and I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna talk about

(44:43):
this on game day morning the first I'm gonna do
some exos and show people exactly what I'm talking about. Um,
but the Carolina Panthers, Carolina Panthers are an explosive team.
The number one is going office. But something has worried
me the last few weeks of the season and enter
the playoffs, and that's really been the play of the safeties.
And they have the safety's Roman Harper and specifically Kurt

(45:06):
Kurt Coleman have an issue, have a real issue of
transitioning from coming down in the box or coming down
to a receiver and the receiver's coming at them, and
now they gotta flip coverage and get into coverage. They
and and as you know, Nate, when you're running deep
those deep nin step play action, real deep sales dropbacks,

(45:28):
the receiver got to be able to flip them hip
and get especially with the speed there's on the Cardinals
and they have way more speed than at the wide
receiver position in the Seattle Seahawks. Then and Courtland Finnigan
had his handsful in that second half with Tyler Lockett.
With Tyler Lockett, I mean the slot in general. So
I'm just saying I feel like the matchup there's a

(45:50):
slight advantage offensively with Arizona because if you're taking shots now,
I feel like you said, if they have that ability
to take them deep set having nine step drops and
Carson Palmer turns around and he got a crossro on
one side, he gotta go round on another and he
got the backside dig Do they have the speed to
keep up with these receivers. No, And that's why they

(46:13):
can hand it off to David who can he can
rattle off a be Smoke type run in the time. Again,
That's why I don't think they'll play a lot of man.
Another another big issue I'm gonna be looking at is
the d tackles of the Carolina Panthers Kawan short, Starlet
Tula and I forget the other guy's name. Excuse me,
um my dog, I forget your name, Keeley? Um Uh?

(46:35):
Can they defeat these double teams of their Zona Cardinals.
There's Bruce Arians offense is run game basically is double
teams put the you take the D tackles and you
put them into the lapse of the linebackers. Mike A
you party and those guys up front have been a

(46:55):
have been masterful at that this year. The best players
on this care on the Panthers defense. Other linebackers. Okay,
I want to see that game. Will they be able
to get on the next level? Will Luke Keithley and
Tommy Davids be able to bludge in these guys up
off of them? That's a matchup right there, and that's
something that's not a sexy matchup. That's not something that's

(47:16):
gonna be diagrammed on TV or nothing. That's something something
as a football player you're gonna I'm gonna be watching.
That's something I'm gonna be watching. To me, right there,
that's where the game that could you know what if
they can't block those D tackles. Carson Palmer is one
of the worst quarterbacks in the league with the dirty pocket.
What do we say all the time? The game is
one in loss in the trenches scrimmage. So that's that's awesome.

(47:38):
So I'm gonna get my pick. I got, I got
the Cardinals upsetting the Panthers do you. Yeah, so I
got to I got the two road teams and also
check this out. And my bad man, I got another
point about this game's up. We just had them on.
They owned uh, they on X Factor X. First of all,
it's gonna be great and of it. But I tell

(48:01):
you one thing, tremendous spy for Cam. I'll tell you
one thing though, Kenny, and I know he knows what
I'm talking about. He's seeing it on film, he's watching
it today. Can he keep up with that quarterback power
that's gonna be run because truly, y'all don't have an
extra defender now right, which means you're gonna have a
big lineman pulling for you, okay, and then you got

(48:24):
a two hundred pound quarterback running behind him. But one
thing about their own that I've noticed and watching film
is he is very slick and getting off blocks. He
sheds blocks very well because of his speed. He sees
the approach, he sees the footwork of the pulling lineman,
even fullbacks, and he can shed slightly and speed into
where he wants to go. So we'll see it's gonna

(48:45):
be a great matching. And that Brian patch right then,
and I know that this and that Briar patch, that's
what we call country and that Brian patch. It's a
little different to being outside them numbers. What I'm saying,
and that Brian pass we call this there's no fair dodging, baby,
you better come get it. I won't smell your breath. Mustache,
the mustache. He's six one two ten. He ain't gonna

(49:07):
face knock on face mask to face mask every Okay,
we'll see. He's gonna do here once in a while.
He's also gonna use the speed. That's his advantage. Mike's
don't you speak the makes What I'm saying is if
you move, and if if you're in the bar and
you get out the way and you're s slipping people,
the back is right. Now you're right, You're right. Okay,
come on, Nate, now you're That's what I do, man,

(49:28):
I know this is what you do. And now listen
before before we wrap, I gotta say this quickly. I
feel like the Goon of the Week award goes to
Steph Curry. All right, So the Steph Curry and the
Ghost Warriors played in Cleveland last night and they beat
the beat the brakes off, right, But The crazy thing
is what Steph Curry said before again he said, I

(49:49):
I hope the locker room still smells like Champagne. They
won the title there, so that was that's bulletin board
material at his finest saying his locker is lock can't
like man, I just hope it still smells like champagne.
For when we celebrated at the beating you guys in
the finals and then he went out there, it was
chopping cats up like Emerald. So shout out to Steph Curry.

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
