Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up. This is Terry Owen, this is Pooch, this
is Osha Jackson Jr. And you're listening to the R
and B Podcast. Act like you don't. Yeah, oh no, no, yeah,
Well I had a long day, not really trying to
go out by my lady, dressed down for man down,
(00:24):
but now ain't going down. See now, baby, I got
some stats like and all some real players. Super SPECIs
some fast for your seat you at this game go down.
As they analyzed the winners, they might shout my name
out because you that's what we do. Sho. We're gonna
hit him in the work. You don't like you wanna running?
So this makes it on FREDA then all season? Oh man,
(00:50):
you for real with that, Mike bro I'm speechless. Man,
I'll wear your spec. Super Bowl City. The crowd is
the crazy down here. We got the people supporting the
podcast movement. Man, we got a intro song. Now we
visually got the intro. We got our cameraman on the
(01:11):
steady coming through right now as we speak. Man, this
is and this is turned into a movie. My lightweight
got emotional watching a man Welcome to the super Bowl.
They man, welcome to the R and B Podcast super
Bowl fifty. That is Man. That is Man from the
(01:31):
huddle here at super Bowl City in San Francisco. Man,
we're gearing up for the main event Man, super Bowl fifty.
It's like it's like your sports show meeting with the
Time to be Alive. Come on up to dig that
and listen. Coming up on today's show. Um, obviously we're
gonna preview the super Bowl. We're gonna talk about the picks.
(01:52):
We're gonna talk about m v P possibility. I got that.
I got that heat for you and they get me there, Bro,
we get me that. We the veteran O G cornerback
Charles p Nutt Tilman joining the show and Lyne to
get possibly his first super Bowl. Man. He would he
came in with me. He would deserve it, Man deservedly.
So we got him on the show. Um, we're also
(02:15):
gonna spit a little something. This is the RB Show.
So I wrote a little something. You're the real spoken word.
So look, I've been Look, I've been trying to get
people to tweet me, write me a verse or something right,
and you couldn't. You was writing your own verse the
whole time. Yeah, but I mean you wasn't asking me
to write a verse for you, just asking the people.
We don't roll like that, do listen, you're supposed to
be the hyping that back in here. I got you.
(02:36):
I got you, dog, I got you. And you're gonna
talk a little Calvin to day. Ume we're gonna talk
a little Calvin man, what's up? And we're gonna we're
gonna jump right into it. We're talking Calvin right now,
right out to get up with a man little first topic.
Check this out man. First of all, when I heard
the news that he was thinking about, I'm not gonna lie,
I thought I thought it was a bargaining tip. I
thought he just wanted out, man, Like losing can rain you?
(03:00):
Nine seasons are losing nine seasons. He's been the only
bright spot that's been consistent the only time. So I
know you post to him, man, what is he thinking? Bro?
You know, it's funny how we say that history the
Pizza sail Or. You remember Calvin Johnson feeling what he
was done over the last nine years. You take it
(03:20):
back even further, you remember what Barry Sanders did when
he was there and then retired early. I mean, you're
looking at the highlights right now, in my era of football,
there's nobody that has done it on a higher level
than Calvin Johnson, you know, and it's not because I
played with it. He's literally one of the best to
ever do it. But did you ever feel like when
you was there with him, did you ever feel like
(03:40):
he was born to a tied early Not not at all.
But this is what I would tell you as a fan,
I was surprised a little bit disappointed when I heard
the news that he could possibly retire, because as a fan,
I want to see Calvin Johnson do what he's been
done for a few more years at least. But that's
me being selfish and me being a friend and a
(04:02):
former teammate. I honestly feel like I completely understand if
he's gonna retire, because when people ask me, you know,
what's the deal, how do you feel? I feel like
Calvin's tired, And I mean that in every definition of
the word tired physically. He's been banged up for the
last five years consistently. No matter how healthy Calvin tell
you he is. Because he's such a humble, blue called individual,
(04:24):
he's not gonna tell you how bangs up. He really
but does he want that big cap number? Bro? I mean,
come on, we noticed this. This game is about results.
You get paid on the results. They're not winning, and
he carries a quarterback cap number one million or something like.
It doesn't matter though. Like listen, we've been in this
league where we've seen guys get paid for what they've done,
not for what they possibly can do. And here's the thing.
(04:46):
They roll the dice when they drafted him and end
up getting one of the best receivers of all time.
Why not roll the dice right now and try to
woo him back, get him back and tell him how
much he meets in the city, and possibly get him
to play fits in games. If Calvin Johnson plays me
in games, he's one of the best seen a business
period here, Jail. I feel like if he takes a
year off, if he takes a year off, he's gonna
come back and feel great because the ankles, those anchors
(05:08):
are't gonna be feeling the same like they feel right now,
right at the end of the season. You know how
emotional we get at the end of the season, bro,
We all feel like that's exactly with with with drains
And then I can only imagine, bro, here's the thing,
and this is just me talking as a friend, and
none of this is coming from c JA. If I
have something from c J, I'll tell you your c
J said, I can say this he green litting. But
(05:29):
all my conversations I've had with c J over the
last four hours are private there between me and there.
If he gives me the green light to talk about it,
or if he gives me the green light or confirmation
on retirement, I will come out of sail. But I'll
say this if c retires, in my opinion, he's done
the crazy thing about c J. It's not about the money,
it's not about the fame, it's not about the praise.
It's just about playing ball and bring the championship to Detroit.
(05:50):
It just so happens he was the best receiver in
our error and money, fame and praise comes along with that,
all of family. You know. In my mind, when I
look at Hall of famers, always think double digit years,
like ten plus eleven plus thirteen plus, because you've done
it for a long span of time at a high level.
(06:13):
If he wasn't a guy that I didn't play with
and I didn't see him firsthand, I would say no,
But because I know the type of individual he is
and really how much he put Detroit on his back,
I'm gonna say yeah. There's a difference between putting up
numbers and putting an organization on your shoulders for extended
(06:33):
amount of time, and Calvin did that. Calvin made stars
out of a lot of people. Matt Stafford's my boy.
I love Matt Stafford. Mat a lot of balls from
that Stafford. My brand grew because of Matt Stafford as
my quarterback. Calvin Johnson made Matt Stafford better. Calvin Johnson
helped get some money in Matt Stafford's pockets. Calvin Johnson
made a star out of a lot of people around.
I can't call him Randy Moss effect. I can't call
(06:55):
him a Hall of Famer Bro. Why not? I just
can't because that n No, not not necessarily because of
nine years. Because I feel like our our colleagues to
real Davis getting in he had he didn't play double
digits or whatever. I feel like he should be in there.
You know what I mean? Already My thing is championships. Championships.
Did you affect change? Were you the catalyst for championships.
(07:17):
It doesn't matter the position. That's that's all right, and
it's not like that all across, all across all the fame.
But I feel like if you, if you're a player,
we talk about the greats, bro and we use the
word great too much, you know what I'm saying. I
feel like we do. See my man got a Calvin
Johnson jersey, all right there, yeah, I see, we live.
We live in l A. That's the support he get.
You don't say any representing right there. Here's the thing.
(07:40):
I can't get exactly what you're saying. But I'll ask
you this, how many greats do we pay homage to
you and show respect and give that gold jacket to
that never won a championship? There's no right in the NFL,
major League Baseball, in the NBA. I don't think your
success post career or how you acknowledge post career should
be determined by how much drewing you got in your jury.
(08:03):
Then why why do we play this game? They we
played the win, but sometimes for champion sometimes the organization
you're with doesn't allow you to do that. There's nothing
against Detroit, but they were built like some of the
other squads that have been winning over the last ten years.
So you can't blame Calvin Johnson individually. When he first
got there keeping it all the way real, they were
(08:25):
terrible two years removed from the time I got there,
they had just went on sixteen and then to a fourteen.
So when I got there, there's guys in the locker
room that was telling me this is the funeral grounds
for God's career. This is these are dudes is on
Sundays for Detroit. And I'm thinking to myself, I have
to change the culture of Detroit. And you know who
(08:46):
was a college for that, Calvin Johnson. If you done
for real, man, he was a great in this game. Man,
heyweighting this game, man. But look Opening Night to my
last night over, I saw you all over the two bro.
How was it? I was? I went to kind of
the media day last year. This was the first year
(09:07):
of Opening Night. What was your thoughts on it? Man?
I got you know, I got some thoughts on what
were your thoughts? And you know, keeping one hunting dark
all you gotta see your phones. Hey, listen, man, you
can see the images right here. Um. It was absolutely amazing, Mike.
As you know, in the world knows by watching me
over my career now on TV, I haven't sniffed the
(09:28):
Super Bowl. I didn't sniffed the Super Bowl. I got
to an NFC championship game once. Um so being there,
you know, experiencing this type of atmosphere and seeing the
fans and the people be so entrenched in the moment.
And it wasn't just the people in the stands, media
personalities like myself. I felt like little kids just bend bro.
(09:49):
They introduced everybody on the Golden Gate Bridge and they
came out and you know, Denver did they thing, and
they're having fun dapping each other up. And then you know,
the Panthers came out, they do damn, and the Norman
came out. They dabb and I'm like, yo, this is
live right. My only thing is, don't get me wrong.
I thought it was a great event man, and and
(10:10):
and and it seemed like I tweeted they showed across
the screen earlier, you know, I tweeted that it was
like a prize fight awaiting where guys are kind of
looking at each other. It's a spectacle and it's good
for the league, man, you know what I mean, It's
good for guys, brands, guys, you know, get a chance
to talk about more things to open and night. Yeah. Man, um,
but I tell you one thing as a player, Now,
(10:31):
that's something at it that you have to prepare for,
Like you have to prepare for for Opening Night, which
is media there. Like I tell guys all the time, Man,
they're gonna ask you a bunch of crazy questions. You're
gonna be I was asked about midgets, ponies, lucky charms,
some crazy stuff. You know what I mean. Yeah, you're
(10:52):
all in the same sentence. Bro, it's crazy. But anyway,
that's a whole another podcast. Let me ask you this, Mike. Now,
I was there last night. You know, I was working
on the other side, you know, not a player, but
working for the NFL network. Right, you were in the
Super Bowl, Right, you've been there, You got this thing, right?
(11:14):
How did you prepare for me tonight and didn't have
an impact on your weak and getting ready for the game. Well,
you know, I played full back, so you know I'm
by nature, I'm of servants, by nature. I deflect I
deflect phrase my running back, I deflect phrase to my quarterback.
I'm off as a line right, But I tell you
one thing about Pete. Man, Pete said, embrace the moment,
(11:36):
have fun. You may not ever get back here. You
see what I'm saying. Media day, all the questions go
crazy on it. And I used to catch the ball too.
Come on, man, I can do that. Come on, man,
you see that. You see that anyway anyway, But Pete
and he told us to embrace it. I feel like
if you if you if you don't embrace it, if
you say, oh, it's a distract, you know it's bad,
(11:58):
it's a bad thing. And this that if you make
it a big deal as a player, it becomes a distraction.
All the media becomes a distraction. You gotta understand that.
And guys have to understand that the media is here
and they're only gonna put out what you say. You
can't get frustrated. And these meeting, the you know, media
nights and stuff, guys get frustrated. It was happy. I
was happy how Cam answered this question. You know what
(12:20):
I mean. I was happy how freestyle at the end
of it. You know what I mean? I was happy
how how Peyton handled his press comp He handed the questions,
deflecting all the questions. The funny thing about Peyton. He
won't tell you whether he's gonna retire, right, but all
the signs look like he's gonna retire. You know, everything
he's you know, he he gives you little things here
and there to let you know. Man, this is gonna
(12:41):
be my last rodeo man, right all right now, before
we move on to this next subject, I'm gonna put
you in the spot real quick. In one word, describe
that feeling you had when you want it. Oh man,
it's hard to put in the words, right. I mean
(13:01):
it is because you worked so hard, man, for so
many years, since I was five years old watching you know,
you know, watching Joe Montana drive down against the Denver
Broncos to win it eighty nine Super Bowl and the
eight or eighty nine Super Bowl. You all those memories
rushed to you, and you're like, I'm at the pinnacle.
(13:23):
Everybody is at home across the world watching us celebrating
this confetti right now. And my next thought was, how
can I use this platform that I've just created, my team,
and that we worked so hard that we've just created
for our stuff. Because now your name is and what
we call indelible ink, and they're going to where you're
champion forever. You see what I'm saying transcends time. We're
(13:46):
gonna still talk about you. You get what I'm saying.
I get. I wanted to use my platform to bring
other young people up, other guys up. I spent some
time last night talking to some of the Denver broncos
I saw him out and getting something to eat, you
know what I mean. And some of these young guys, Man,
they just asking me, how does it feed? Like? What
am I gonna the first play? What am I? What
is it gonna feel like? Nate? I didn't catch my
(14:09):
breath to the second quarter from the first kick off. Bro,
I listen to anything young guys that want to know,
and I am damn envious, bro, Like they're serious. Just
hearing you guys talk about that. Uh, it gives me goosebumps, man,
because I didn't get close. But I live vicariously through
the guys that have been there and done that and
one that. So I'm always gonna convince you for that. Man,
(14:30):
that's an awesome, awesome thing. Um, let's jump to this
quarterback conversation. Okay, let's talk about it. So I want
you to fill in the blank and then I'll feel
in the blank, if the Broncos win the Super Bowl,
Peyton Manning is, and he may already be, but I'm
(14:50):
gonna stay immortal. Immortal, I mean he's gonna he's already
up there in the animals. As far as statistics, okay,
but you talk about multiple championships with different teams, multiple
m vps with different teams, the game follows him. He
sets the bar. You see what I'm saying. And the
(15:13):
guys that I know that that's been on his teams,
he's the general and I think he was another Super
Bowl man. He can ride off into the sunset like
I did and don't even look back, because again, he's
gonna be able to get paid. He's gonna better do
whatever he wants because of his his immortality. I like
to get what I'm saying. I'm gonna say, if the
(15:34):
Broncos win, Peyton Manning is top three of all times,
just top three, just top three, Well, I feel like
giving him that top three spot, it's a solidification of
his immortality. Like because when you're talking Tom Brady and
whoever else you want to put, who you put, who
(15:54):
you are you Tom Brady paid man, that's not the conversation. Okay,
I do got Tom Brady and my top three, But
on the flip side, if they lose, he falls in
my top ten. It's a big difference in how I
view them, my perception. So I still think he's one
of the best to ever do it. Yes, did he
change the game? Yes? Um, is he one of the
(16:15):
hardest men to game planning for? Yes, it's just the
fact that he would have went to four Super Bowls
and only one one. Now, I got on the show
and said that that shouldn't be a reason why you
don't stamp to approval on his career because just getting there.
To me, he's enough. But he will have that tag
or that stamp that he didn't win the big game
as many times as he should. So that's how I'm
(16:37):
I'm a I'm a flip I can dig it, I
can dig Let's let's let's go on the flip side
of oak. Let's go to the other sideline with Cam Newton.
If the if the Carolina Panthers win the Super Bowl,
Cam Newton is I'm I'm gonna going away. If the
Carolina Panthers win the Super Bowl, Cam Newton is the
best quarterback in the NFL. He already is bro I'm
(16:59):
not talking about this year m VP tag. I'm talking
about he has taking the spots of whoever you might
think for me, it's been brave long. I'm talking right now.
You can't say that I might let you go down
that path. Don't. I'm going down this path. I'm just saying, listen,
you only only as good as your last game, your
last season, going into next year, going into two thousand
(17:22):
sixteen season, Cam will be labeled the best quarterback in
the game. And he's either going to play terrible to
lose that spot, or somebody's gonna have to play better
and knock off the top of that. You're talking about
Tom Brady consecutive years. I'm talking about in the game.
We're not talking about resume. I understand that, but he
just got out a week ago. What I'm saying is
he's almost answering my own question, my own because I'm
(17:44):
not gonna let you go down there. I'm down that path.
I'm already down to rap do it. You're going to
answer the question. If the Carolina Panthers wins, Cam Newton
will validate you know, I'm hoping listening. He will validate
that style of quarterbacking and leadership that's not already validated much.
(18:11):
He's the only one to really do it. He's talked
about it, Nate, let's get into it. He's talked about it, Nate.
I mean, let's just be honest. He talked about the
hip hop culture and the influencing on on on on
on that pop culture hip hop culture has on the league,
and that's why his appeal is so much. The players
camp can and I noticed because from talking to players
in that locker room camping go hang out and listen
(18:31):
to future with some of the some of the you know,
some of the guys that you know that dig with futures,
that trap music and one part of the locker room.
But he can go listen to um, what is the country,
little country rocket roll Rocket room that he can do
it all man, And and to me, that's leadership man,
that's leadership. Bro. I feel like his leadership is already
(18:52):
validated by what he's done this year. But no, I
feel you. I like that a guy like him has
not won the say okay, so getting back to what
I said, because you kind of coked on me about that. Now,
jumped on him being the best quarterback in the league
and labeled that and going to next year has that.
I mean, when you guys win the Super Bowl, did
you feel like you were the best team in NFL
going to the next season as a team, Well, you
gotta understand they'd have a time like that right after that. Okay,
(19:15):
but you know what I mean, did you going to
the next season after winning knowing, Okay, we are the best,
somebody's gonna have to beat me or we're gonna have
to play definitely mentality, I'm saying, if Cam wins the
Super Bowl, somebody's gonna have to beat the Carolina Panthers
in the next Super Bowl, or he's gonna have to
play terrible enough to where we don't consider him the best.
(19:37):
Right now, he's clearly the best quarterback. He's MVP. And
if you win the Super Bowl, that's the m v
P stamp on top of the m v P and
the Super Bowl, which means, in my opinion, you're the
best quarterback in the game. Okay, I I'm not. I
still don't want you to go down that path. Dog,
I can't. You can't do it. Bro Come on, nasty, Hey, listen.
But hey, we do got Charles Tillman, So Peanut, we
(19:58):
got somebody else. He's gonna he's gonna join the show later. Okay, okay,
but we do have somebody that's in the locker room
and can speak a little bit more descriptively about He
gonna speak about that leadership, is gonna speak about it
and talk about all right, So let's talk about these matchups,
man um, Now I want to talk about the specific
matchup with the Denver Broncos DBS. Okay, you know you
(20:21):
got Chris Harris a key to leave someone say the
best secondary in the game. How it funny because someone
say on the other side of the ball, it's the
best secondary in the game. But going up against Chris
Harris and the key, like, if you personally was going
to you're gonna have to do more than just your
traditional routes. Uh. They're very aggressive. So at the line
(20:44):
of scrimmage, if they're in, they're putting their hands on
you keep one of the best in the game. You're
looking at the clips right here, I want you to
pay attention to his length. I mean, when he's anywhere
near the ball, he's gonna either try to get his
hands on and pick it off or break it up.
I mean, these these this isn't your typic group of dbs.
They're not just out there to stay in front of you.
These guys want to get their hands on balls. Um
(21:06):
one of the best in the game at PPUs, like
we're seeing right now, very aggressive on impact when you're
running a route. They'd rather the rep thor flag then
to be passive. So you're gonna have to do a
double move, which means the quarterback is gonna have time.
But there lies the problem. Quarterbacks don't have much time.
When you got to Marcus Ware and von Miller coming
(21:28):
off the edge putting pressure on you. We're not only
rushing three maybe four guys. Speaking of that front seven though,
speaking of that front seven, and I'm gonna do if
I was going up against the diver Broncos front Sep
versus von Miller, you know de Marcus de Marcus where
in the linebackers. I tell you one thing, I'm blocked
von Miller or I was, And it's one of the
(21:49):
toughest jobs a human can have because he's fast, He's
just as athletic as you like. You know what I mean?
His his lateral movements are just as you as your
is in and he has an attitude. You get what
he plays with his hands, and he has an answer.
He he got that dog. You took the words out
(22:09):
of my mouth, and he really can get after if
you if I was going up against him, I'm playing
two tight ends, double wing or whether it's a tackle
tight end whatever. You have to constantly double this guy
and you run out him. He's one of he's one
of the top guys in the league. Get playing a run,
(22:31):
but you get him tired. It's a body blow. It's
like it's like a heavyweight match. You want to keep
throwing those body blows because and if you're down late
late in the game, if you're you're the Carolina Panthers,
you don't want this guy fresh rushing the past. See
what I'm saying. You set them up late on in
the game, and guess what your runs also popping. You
keep Peyton Manning off the field. So run the football
(22:52):
and run right at some Most people would think run
away from him, No, dude, because you gotta think it
will make some good at his feet, right, So if
you run away from them like you try to run
away from j J. Why he's gonna run you down
and see what I'm saying. What we got next? Man?
What we got? All right, let's talk about Josh Norman.
How would you match up versus Josh? You know, one
(23:13):
of the best cornerbacks in the game within their system.
I was just gonna say their system that cover three
one of the best. The thing about to cover three
is that if you're long, you have great anticipation, you
can get your hands on a lot of balls. I mean,
and that's another thing you gotta work worry about with Josh,
Like he could come off the heads and one of
(23:33):
the only teams that still have confidence in that corner
Blitz still run the corner state. But when you're when
you're going to get somebody that has the place cover
three so well, you have to attack them latterly because
they have their deep third. Right, So first out the gate,
first fifteen plays, I'm taking one shot over the top,
just to let them know I'm going can just to
let them know I need to respect the fact that
(23:55):
we got speed and we can't go over the top.
Whether you use Emmanuel Sanders and it's tremendous ability to
to run deep routes and high point the bulls Payton
throwing the football or baby where you can throw it
up and say, all right, let's see who can out
jump who with the marius because the marius can go
up again. I get what you're saying. And then on
top of that, you're gonna have to be very precise
in rent running. So we're talking curl routs, deep comebacks.
(24:18):
And the only reason I say deep comebacks because there's
a moment where a dB knows you're about to run
past me. It's ten to twelve yards. That's their clocking
their heads. So if I start chopping my feet at
eight to nine ten yards, then they know, okay, I
can break right now. So be disciplined on my route.
And then, because you want to run deep current routes
and deep comebacks, once I get to fifteen yards as
(24:40):
a dB, because he has the third in the help,
I gotta get out of it. He gotta get out
of here. So if I'm running, keep disciplined. I don't drop,
I don't give him a no tail tale signs. I
don't sift my eyes, I don't turn my head. As
soon as I get to my breaks out of and
I come out. That's what you gotta do against Josh.
If you do anything wrong, any subtlety within your route movement,
He's on top of it. Dude. If I was going
(25:01):
up against this Carolina Panthers front seven, Carolina Panthers front seven,
you know the Denver Broncos, they won his own scheme
run game. I love the zone scheme, okay, I you know,
I had great success made the Pro Bowls. Who go
all of that running the zone scheme? But I tell
you one thing to attack it. Will you think the
front side is it's not the front side and zone
(25:22):
running your backside is your front side? Explain that to them.
So if I'm running right, okay, basically my left guard
and tackle, they gotta cut the defensive tackle and they
gotta cut the linebacker because eventually that's where I'm going.
Zone is pushing everybody to one side, okay, and coming
back behind the cutting back, behind the cut the cut
blocks of the back side. Announced watching film, the Denver
(25:46):
Broncos had been great at their backside cut off. They
have not been great at their backside cut off. So
this is gonna be huge. Can they get key one
short on the ground. Can they get started to la
on the ground. We'll see they we'll see I don't know.
And now talk specifically about Luke Kikling the best in
the game. And I mean it's not just him tackling
(26:08):
running backs in the backfield. We know he can go
north south. What's more impressive to me is he can
go east west, sideline, the sideline and on top of that,
if he's anywhere around the ball's he can pick six
the things like his coverage. He has a unique ability
people hear me talk about it all the time to
see two people. He can see that that number three
receiver screaming down the middle of the field. He can
(26:29):
also see the a dig role coming in behind and
whether to go to the dig router, whether to sink
with this um with this guy screaming down the middle
of the field. He has a football ir Q, he's
he's a football uh man at the stays at the
facility all the time. And again I blocked this guy
I got. I caught him his rookie year. I called
(26:49):
him a few times. You caught him, Remember I called
you don't count man. Hey, he was before he got
on his way before. But what may some good is
great or rather, he's not concerned about the blocker in
the one day, he's getting to the ball. You have
linebackers that are playmakers, they get to the ball. You
(27:11):
have linebackers that are just thumpers. Layton Patrick Willis's career
a thumper. I love to go against him because I
knew exactly what he was gonna do. Navarral Bowman, Bobby Wagner,
Luke keik Lee, Lavonte David. Those guys they never give
you a shoulder, they never give you a hard surface.
So you're going in there thinking it's gonna be an
athletic outfit boom, and they hit you in the mouth.
(27:32):
That's what's up. It's hard out there out there. Come on, man,
it's gonna be hard out there for the running backs
on Sunday. But next up, we got a very special guest.
Oh yeah, Peanut here my man Producer TV and the
whole R and B crew, they're always landing a special
guest man. We got Charles Peanut Tillman coming up on
the show in a little bit. R and B. Let's
(27:54):
get it soon. Intercepting Charles Charles till beautiful deception. Peter
put this right in there, Till they're not gonna get up.
Pun tell ten fu and up touchdown. Speaking of that
(28:20):
tremendous Carolina Panthers defense, we are joined by the One,
the Old Man, Myth, the legend Man, Charles, still doing it,
Peanut Tillman, and else. I like that, still doing it,
still doing it. That would caught me off guard. Still
still doing it. We came in the same Yeah, you know,
(28:42):
I took off the jersey, put the suit on. You
still got the jersey on. Still balling at the high
level as we saw in the highlights. Apprecate you joined us,
bron Thanks for having me, y'all to akilling it right now? Changing.
I like it, like congrats changing the game, just like
y'all changing. Yeah. Trying to try to talk off camera
reminds me of reminding of us our team. We wanted
(29:03):
this ring right here. Man, you know what I mean.
Y'all having fun, y'all doing y'all thing. And the first question,
how has Cam changed? How is he Cam Newton new quarterback?
How has he changed? How is he mature? What is
he like on and off the field? Man? Well, I
can't speak about him last year because I didn't know
him like that, you know, being in the locker rooms
my first year with Carolina. But just from I guess,
(29:23):
if you want to say a mature standpoint, I think
he's leading this team. You know, I think we all
kind of have similar personalities to Cam. The way he's
having fun, so he puts the team on his back.
I mean, that guy is hitting on all cylingers right now.
There's nothing he cannot do. You know, he does this
for a reason, because the dude is he's bawling like Superman, running,
(29:43):
uh throwing. Just our offensive line is what it makes
it up. The guy will sit back there and just
he was and look, you know what I'm saying, like
it's he's got a great supporting cast. Man. You know,
I can't say he's not doing it alone, but his
his his supporting cast has been amazing. Follow up, follow up,
Do you think the quarterback position is going to change
(30:05):
because of Cam? Yeah, definitely. He's a trend setter. You know,
he was talking about it earlier. People don't really understand
and how he's doing it. He's doing it his way,
the way he wants to do it. You know, he's
not doing it the conventional way. He's unconventional. Everything about
came is unconventional, you know, from his pants to how
he plays the game, and it's all good. You know,
(30:26):
he's been himself a whole entire time, and you gotta
respect that about that man. Now we just sold your highlights,
and you know, I've had a great amount of respect
for this guy because I was in the NFC North
for a long time, had tremendous battles against him in
that secondary. I remember when I caught my first touchdown
against him. I was crazy exciting. Now, yeah, he got
(30:48):
me a few times, but I caught my first testdown
against him. This is like years after playing against and
I thought I accomplished something because this was the guy
we game planned against. Now I say that to say
this every week when we got ready to face you,
you're at the top of the board. You were that guy.
So you know what it's like to have a target
on you at the quarterback position. You're playing with the
(31:09):
guy Josh Norman who has a target on his back.
Some may say he drew it on himself. Some may
say because he's one of the best corners that he
automatically gets that target. What have you seen in Josh
Being that you've been at the pinnacle of being the
best cornerback in the game, and now some are saying
that he could possibly be quarterbacks again. Right, so again,
(31:31):
I didn't know Johns last year, but just what things
I've heard, Um, he's matured, you know, he's I think
he's learning the game. And you know, as you're mature
and as you get older in this league, the game
kind of slows up for you. You understand how teams
are trying to attack. You understand splits, you know, three
by one formation, Uh, third and one three by one formation. Uh.
(31:52):
The guy's two yards outside the numbers. What's he running?
It's number one receiver. Yeah, yeah, Stuart of Stutter run
that slant. You know. So I think he understands the
game more and it's kind of slowing down for him,
and it's allowing him to react and not think and
just make plays. That's awesome. Man. Rumors have surfaced about uh,
(32:13):
my boy, Calvin Johnson. You know, you played in that
NFC North for a long time. You faced Calvin Johnson
many of times. Um, some say he could be retired.
You sent out a tweet, you know, uh, basically showing
you know, your respect respect for Calvin and what he's done,
and you talked about facing him. What was so difficult
(32:34):
about going up against c J Ali Frasier alive Frasier, Man,
I knew when we used to face each other it
was a it was a heavy weight about man. And
I knew I had to bring my A game come
with him, you know, because I when I used to
watch my film, he would go out and just kill it.
(32:54):
And I knew in order for me to go out
and not get killed, I had to bring my A game.
And how how did you approach it differently when facing
Calvin versus other receivers. I just tried to win at
the line, you know. I really tried to win at
the line so I wouldn't have to win down the fields,
down the field. I tried to win at the line.
(33:16):
You know, dude is a fierce competitor, man, fierce competitor.
UM sad to see him going for his retirement, but
at the same time, hey, man, I wish him nothing
but the best. You mean, he's had an amazing career.
Amazing career. You know, if I if I had a vote,
I know I don't get a vote, but if I
had a vote, I would put my vote for him
to be a first ballot Hall first ballot Hall of Famer.
(33:37):
Dig that, that's that's perspect checking out your shirt. Wild
for Juno, that's who you hear um representing on behalf
of talk a little bit about wild for Uno. Man,
So everybody everybody played Uno? Right get there? Okay, so
we're wild Uno. Basically you get four excuse me, three
blank wild cards and you get the right on them
(33:58):
what you want. So right now we gotta draw until
you get blue, and then you get to pick the color.
Show everybody in your hand. Okay, and then you get
skipped five times, so blanket you right on you, right
on them. So you're playing. You know what, I got
my wild card? Bam, you get skipped five times. So
this is the new twist. This is a new twist.
(34:22):
Spice it up a little bit. You can you know,
you can put whatever, switch hands, give me your deck,
give me your hand, all right, give me that hand?
Oh yeah, you know about where? Can I where can
I watch this? Can I watch this anywhere? Why? I'm
just saying this? And see how go? Man? Go the
same way? You must not know how you didn't ever
played the same way? If the game except the wall card.
(34:47):
That's it. That's the only twist to the game. You
can't get crazy with. You can do whatever you want
to do. There's no limits to this is whatever whatever
you want to do to the game, it's you. Whatever
you gotta ask, like, how did you get connected with you? Bro? Like,
you know, man, I got people's out there, and you know,
I got people that I got people that know people. Okay,
(35:08):
I could hear people contacting my people now with people's
I can dig that. Well, listen, we's gonna let you go.
But we're gonna we're gonna let you We're gonna let
you cheer with us while we do our game picks. Yeah,
and I'm gonna tell you straight up, we're not We're
not gonna say anything that we wouldn't say because you're here.
So we're gonna keep it rid. Our picks is gonna
remain the same right out to gate, Mike, who you
(35:30):
got Are you gonna put me on the spot from
who you got? For super? Well? How long do I
got to explain them? Because I don't want him to
get mad at me. Man, it's just six we boys. Okay, Hey, look, man,
I think the game is gonna be a lot closer
to what people think. Okay, okay, Um, the Devon Broncos
defense is um falling out of control right now, let's
just be honest. But they're going up against a guy,
(35:52):
a team and offense. Um that's driven. Right now, they're
having fun. I got to count of Panther squeaking this
one out because they're gonna run the football. That's how
you're gonna that's how you're gonna mitigate the pass us
coming off the edge. You're gonna throw them body blows,
you know, running power, running counter and all those types
of things. And I just think Carolina Panthers they're destined
this year to do it. Man. Yeah, well I like that.
(36:13):
I don't need to go on that much depth, but
I got to Carolina, Carolina, and I just I just
like the fact that, um, when you're matching up the
offensive speed of the Carolina Panthers versus that defense of
the Denver Broncos, at some point, um, it's gonna be
too much for that Denver defense to handle. And I
(36:34):
think another factor that a lot of people don't really
recognize is that the Carolina Panthers is one of the
best momentum teams in the game, and we don't talk
about that much. Once the offense gets going, get clicking,
defense makes the play. Defense makes the play. Offense is like,
I gotta make a play somewhere in their special teams
comes in there like we gotta make ability, man, and
everybody starts puntability. You feel you feel bad if you
(36:56):
don't care your weight. I feel like this game is
gonna be close to three quarters and then all of
a sudden, that momentum that we've seen these guys play with,
it's gonna hit. But I gotta tell you one thing.
It's still Tuesday. It is too It's still Tuesday. So
tomorrow peen. And I'm sorry, man, I may go with
the brand. Okay, okay, I'm just saying, give me your
(37:18):
m v P non quarterback though, oh m v P
nine quarterback. I probably had to go with ted again, man, Yeah, yeah,
Teddy again. Man. I think he's a guy that world
class speed. I played against mccollege. Um, I had to
tackle him on punt. He didn't have any hips, so
you try to tackle, you just fall right down. Okay,
(37:39):
very narrow, you know what I'm saying. But when he
gets that head down, man, and and and he could
take the top off the coverage. That's gonna open up
stuff for Greg Old. So that's gonna open up stuff
for all the guys in the middle of the intermediate routes. Man.
I think Teddy again is going to have to have
a big game, whether look, whether it's catching a whole
lot of passages deep or whether it's just getting taken
stuff that don't show up in the box score, taking
(38:00):
the top off and open it up from other guys.
I can take that. It's taking one of the fastest
guys you ever playing with. H Yeah. Yeah, the guy
can run like world class. Like you might not believe this,
but I can win. Yeah, that's he can run like
alright when I'm covering him. I literally just like damn
Tad said, and I just I just said, you know,
(38:21):
Patrick Peterson a few weeks ago, you kind of see
guys because I know it's a track. Me. My non
quarterback m v P pick is Luke Keikley, just because
I feel like you talk about filling up the box scores,
you know, tackles for lost tackles, sacks, and then if
(38:42):
you get his hands on it on a ball and
you know he can get to the house if he
intercepts the rock. So you figure a guy that can
make that type of impact defensively, and you know, he's
one of them guys, you know, regardless of you know,
all the different pieces that that defense is made out of. Um,
he's polar rzed, you know, he's that quarterback. So uh,
he's almost kind of the face of that core. And
(39:02):
if if he fills up the stack box, it's gonna
be hard for them not to give him the m
v P unless Cam just goes absolutely bananas, which we
are all expecting. So I got Luke keickley man one last,
one last question Beyonce performing half time when set what
I mean favored Beyonce song, You're gonna be on on
(39:23):
this too? Favorite Beyonce. Well, I don't think about it.
I'm gonna go first. I'm gonna go with Party featuring
Andre th thousand. You know we like to part that
because I'm an eighties baby. I like that. It makes
me feel like kind of the nineties vibe likes WV.
But then on top of that, she got Andre thousand
of rapodyn waiting for him to get on the track.
(39:44):
So that's one of my my favorite Beyonce. I don't
don't even lie, man, don't think differently on me. All right,
I'm gonna let you go. First time I was thinking
about it, I was, you know, I like the song,
the video single Ladies that was it's I could dig that.
That's one of the best lives. A lot of times,
I like cater to you, man. Don't tech your something. Yeah,
(40:07):
don't tech you right here. Every time she said something
about to take you do where that going? Said put
your shoes, yes, yes, And when I'm trying to work
out here, I'll triking over the facility. I said, I'm
gonna cater to the know. Yeah, yeah, that's what's up, man,
I can take that. Hey, we appreciate you joining Basal

see it. Yeah, you come there, l A and I
will definitely do that. That's what's up, man, Get healthy

the Ages. In the Battle of the Ages, Peyton closing
the chapter, Cam still writing pages, Panthers Ben dancing. Davis

game is a one and that defense confident. You don't
(41:58):
mean they bragging creating turnovers like they've seen what play
you picked on Madden Apple. But the Broncos d they
ain't nothing to play with. The Marcus ware off the
Hedge and Van Miller state lit u and they could
have one of the best secondaries. Pete the squad because
here is keeps leaving t J Wood Listen to Offense
