Speaker 1 (00:01):
For more than a century, the Green Bay Packers have
been a benchmark for football excellence. Thousands of players have
helped pave the way, and we're here to tell you
their stories. I'm Wayne Laravy. This is the Packers alumni spotlight.

(00:25):
Tim Mass. They played youth soccer in Des Moines, Iowa.
He spent his formative years in Murray, Kentucky, where he
played football, soccer, basketball, and baseball. A multi sports standout
who eventually found his niche kicking footballs instead of soccer balls. M.

(01:30):
Kicking a soccer ball, I know the hand eye coordination
it takes just to kick anything, or to swing the
golf club. There's but the punting motion is so much different.
I mean a field goal kicker transfer. You go from
soccer to kicking field goals, that's one thing. But to
be a punter from soccer to punting, how big a
transition is that? Point it here, sword M. You got

(03:07):
a shot with the colts um And this is the
case with most kickers. Your first shot is usually not
your last. You'll you'll go to different places. But you
ended up coming to Green Bay in the summer two ten.
Tell me about that, because you did you realize you
were on the cusp of the Super Bowl run, right,

(04:07):
M hm oh in Australia it yeah, mass They came

(05:07):
to the Packers as a free agent punter in two
thousand and ten, and he made it on a team
heading places it could be. Yeah, and a lot of

(05:49):
injuries and a lot of different people on that team
that year. It was incredible. But you also were working
with Mason Crosby. Tell me about him and what impact
did he have on you? Yeah, I was gonna say,

(06:45):
I mean, to be on a team and to be
a good teammate, you don't have to necessarily hang out
with someone or be close to them personally. But doesn't
it make a difference if you are. Doesn't it help
m As a rookie, Tim experienced something some tenure vets

(07:07):
in the league never get to experience a Super Bowl

(08:00):
M Yeah. You know. Um, A couple of years later,

(08:43):
you did throw a touchdown past you remember that to
Tom Craft three of all people, Craffer was one of
the great personalities. What's he really tell me about that?
M h Well, tell me about the player was what

(09:11):
a fake field goal? And you threw a touchdown pad
against the Chicago Bears of all teams. M What's what

(10:03):
was it? Fourth and twenties. I didn't remember that part
of it, but you know, seven yard touchdown passed. Now
I'm picturing a big rainbow down the sidelines, over the
shoulder catches. Nothing like that. Somebody has a picture of that,

(10:53):
don't They Just reflect on your time in Green Bay?

(11:46):
What about playing in this town? And this is so
unusual from most NFL towns. There's a trick to kicking

(12:42):
in lambeau Field in December, isn't it. You needed a
