Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Pittsburgh Steelers postgame show was presented by Doing it
Right roofing, siding and remodeling home of the lifetime Workmanship warranty.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
The Steelers anticipated battle with the Commanders delivered as advertised,
and in the end, the Steelers delivered just enough of
what was required. Russell Wilson in particular. Wilson only completed
fifty percent of his passes, but three of them found
the end zone, including a fade to the new Guy
for the eventual game winner. When a field goal just

(00:31):
wasn't gonna cut it, the defense took it from there
as micka Fitzpatrick and Demonte Casey came up with a
game securing tackle.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
With inches to spare.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
The schedule gauntlet has commenced and the Steelers are one
to zero in the final nine and seven and two
through the first nine.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Bring on the Ravens.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to the postgame show on
the Steelers Audio Network. Mike Persuda, along with Charlie Batch
were someone of Steelers twenty eight, Commanders twenty seven and
Charlie We were talking a little bit before the break.
I feel like I'm channeling my inner Russell Crowe here
from Gladiator. Are you not entertained?

Speaker 3 (01:13):
I mean, I know it's easy to say that when
you win, but what a football game.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
It was unbelievable start to finish and get to the
point where anytime it comes down to the final minutes
and seconds of a game, and that's one of those
games you're just like, oh, you're clear glad that you
came out on top, that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Russell Wilson, veteran savvy, had produced a game winning touchdown.
If you heard Missy Matthews uh interview running on the
field after the game, Wilson during the time out that
preceded that play, switching Mike Williams to the left side
of the field.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
He wasn't supposed to be.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
On that side, but that's where Russell wanted him, and
that's where he found him in the left corner of
the end zone. And then Wilson able to draw the
rookie Johnny Newton off side to prevent the Commanders from
having a last gasp chance. Let's go down a sideline
reporter Max start, as we always do at this time
of the show, it's time for Max's takeaways. Max is

(02:04):
brought to you by S and T.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Bank.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
For every takeaway from the defense this season, S and
T Bank will donate three hundred dollars to PA Wounded
Warriors who have helped over eighteen thousand veterans and counting.
Max appreciate you joining us. I wanted to start with
something Mike Tomlin said in his postgame media session.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
I don't know if you heard this or not, but Tomlin.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Called it a good team win, and then he said
there's real growth associated with it. Now, I'm sure he
was referencing the back and forth nature of it and
you know how so many different phases and individuals had
to come up big.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
But where's the growth? What was he talking about there?

Speaker 5 (02:41):
Well, I think the growth was that when you get
in these tight games or you do go down, that
you don't bury your head in the ground. I think
that's the biggest thing. Don't become an ostriche when it
gets tough, and you know, you look at Joey Porter
Junior having a rough middle of that game. I mean
he had he had three penalties on one drive, and
you know, emotions can get high, you know, for for

(03:03):
a guy that's in the second year, and you know,
felt like he was getting targeted on a couple of
those calls. Some of those warranted, some might might not
have been, might have been previous offenses that that created
a bias. But that's the Those are the moments right
when you don't get it, or you have you know,
a third a third to go in a third and
short and not getting the ball, or having a turnover

(03:24):
on downs. You know, James Pierre, you drop a pass
you know that's wide open on a fake punt on
your own side of the field. That could have been
a game changing play, but you don't get discouraged. And
then you come back next punt opportunity. What you force
the keys? You know has has has has A has

(03:44):
a fumbled snap on the on the catch and boom,
you're the one that held it up to allow Scaronic
to get the play. Or you have a play that
gets broken up down the field in a big go
ball situation, like James Pierre. Those are the moment where
you talk about growing and getting better. I thought James
p was one of those guys who was signaling, of course,
Joey Porter Junior on the defensive side. And then offensively,

(04:05):
you know, Zach Frazer gets called for for a holding penalty,
but yet doesn't stop him from going out and being
the Morgantown maller. So many great moments that you that
you that that you that you could that you can
point to. And then Russell Wilson and Charlie you know this,
especially right when when the wind is kicking in there,
that that fluttery ball that that Russell Wilson throws that

(04:26):
just seems to drop in the perfect place wasn't dropping
in the perfect place because.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Of that wind.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
But what do you do when you come out? You
come out, you adjust, You kind of take it a
little bit of the arc off and you have the
gun it a little bit to account for that wind.
And that's what a veteran like Russell Wilson can do.
He can adjust on the fly and still make great plays.
So I thought there was a lot of growth all
around this team as we watched them today and a
heck of a game. Wanted to know if we could
go into a shootout and win it. Well, we just

(04:51):
proved that the first time we could. And what a
great warm up going up against the Jayden Dams, who
only had five yards rushing.

Speaker 6 (04:58):
On the day.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
Remember he was one of the top guys rushing at
the court position and was setting rookie records. He was
stymied and forced to throw the ball and forced to
stay in the pocket for most of that game. And
it's a great warm up when you talk about who
you said, bring on the Division, We'll bring on the Ravens.
You got a Lebar Jackson warm up this week, and
you show that you were victorious for sure.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
And I think when you look back and you talk
about learning something new and each as the season goes on,
you learn something new, not just from individuals but as
a collective group. Offensively, before the touchdown to Mike's to
Mike Williams in the turnover a curve Jalen Warren right
as they were on the one yard line there. Defensively
they were able to step up as that transition was happening,

(05:39):
getting ready and prepare for that final drive. What would
the sense of urgency on that sideline like when you
were standing there, No.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
Since, urgency was real, I mean, and everybody said we
got to have a three and out. We've got to
have a three and out, because you have to remember, Charlie,
the Steelers had just chewed up seven minutes and three
sections a time of possession. So to go that far,
to go that this is and get to the one
yard line and turn the ball over after possessing it
for seven minutes, that's a heartbreaker. So you really needed

(06:06):
the defense to come in and not allow them to
get a first down that allowed them to get momentum
because you knew that you needed the ball back for
an opportunity, because you know, you like to think that
the way the game was going was that Washington was
going to figure out a way to just chew up time,
work the ball down in the field, and eventually probably
kick another field goal and then put it out of reach.
But the defense came up huge.

Speaker 7 (06:27):
TJ.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
Watt had had a huge hit on Jayde Daniels in
the end zone the force that third down play to
go errant. And I think that was kind of the
momentum that you had to build off of in order
to be successful. And I thought they answered it appropriately.
Nobody panicked, everybody was encouraged. Everybody's hearing each other on
and it led to a great result.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Max I was kind of looking at this as a
test to see how they would do against a playoff
caliber team. Did you see it that way and did
they pass it?

Speaker 5 (07:01):
You know, I didn't look at it as a playoff Caligertyan.
I looked at it as the best opponent they played
thus far this year. So in their nine games so
far this season, this was the best one considering all
the things that happened. So I was really looking at
it as how are you going to do against good
talent that can score and that does have a good defense.
How are you going to fare? Can you go toe
to toe with that opponent? And it was funny. I

(07:24):
was actually on the DC show for the Commanders on
Friday and they were asking, hey, what is your corporated?
I said, the winner is going to have to score
at least twenty eight points to win this game. And
I said probably thirty one, but twenty one was going
to be but twenty eight was going to be what
they needed to score. And they were like, what, that's
pretty high. I was like, no, considering both of these
teams and the talent they have, you're going to need
twenty eight points. And you know, not not to plat

(07:46):
myself on the back, but I thought that was a
very appropriate thing, and glad it came true. But I
think it was just going up against a top flight
quality opponent was going to be was going to be key.
Especially get it before you get ready for the division play,
because we know Cincinnati can score, we know Baltimore can score,
and that's for our your last eight games. And of
course we know what Kansas City is and we know

(08:07):
what Philly is, so we hadn't seen that yet. So
it was really important to get that type of game
under your belt well before we went to division play.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
You could fare Max great stuff, great call on the score.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Next time you feel that strongly about it, you can
mention that during in the Trenches on the Steelers Audio
Network pregame, show safe travels wherever you're going, and we'll
talk to you again soon.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
All right, sounds good, fellas, I'll talk to you all later.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Twenty eight points. That's what that was. It One less
wouldn't have been enough. We'd still be.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Playing playing over town ball right now. That was the case.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
We're just getting cracked up here, so you're gonna want
to keep it here. Thanks to doing it right. Roofing,
siding and remodeling home with a lifetime workmanship Warranty seven

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Pull them up the Lifetime Workmanship warranty.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Well, welcome back Mike Pursuer and Charlie Batch with you
summon up Steelers twenty eight Commanders twenty seven four two
three three nine three eight three is our number. Let's
get right to the telephones parks in Conway.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
You're hitting lead off tonight.

Speaker 8 (09:21):
Oh that's my first time hitting lead off. I've never nervous.

Speaker 9 (09:25):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (09:25):
I want to say this. This is like wearing a
sweater vest in Pittsburgh in July. I sweated this one out.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
It was fun, though, wasn't it? It was?

Speaker 9 (09:35):
It was?

Speaker 10 (09:35):
Oh?

Speaker 11 (09:35):
Man, man was it?

Speaker 8 (09:37):
I also want to welcome mister Mike Williams to Pittsburgh
with the biggest play, huge, huge, But we're gonna get
down to it. Do you think the hurry up offense
and how they sped things up in the first quarter
second quarter affected our defense and that's why we weren't

(09:57):
able to get the titest type of stops, we wanted
another thing special teams. Obviously, a lot of big plays
and a few bad plays. I also thought thought Danny
Smith got a scratch on his face on the tie lines,
which means he was battling too. I'd like to hear
your guys' comments on, you know, our defense in the
first second quarter, the transition, how it happened in a half,

(10:19):
and I just got a few more things to say
after you guys done the defense.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
To me, those two drives, the one at the end
of the second corp, that was the one that went
almost the length of the field, and then the one
at the start of the third corp, that's clearly not
what they're after. But I didn't look at it as
a no huddle problem. I looked at it as a
Washington's pretty good problem, big picture parks. They gave up
two hundred and forty two total net yards and without

(10:43):
the fake punt, really short field situation. You are allowed
to stop them there, but they didn't. That was a
short drive touchdown. I thought it was pretty representative for
the defense. I thought they played some nice complimentary ball
with the offense holding the ball for thirty six to
eleven and the defense only on the field for twenty
three forty nine.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Charlie, I think that's a winning formula.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Maybe one point's gotten a pretty close, but I still
think that's a winning formula, right.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
I agree with you there. And anytime an offense goes
no huddle, and they've been practicing it all week because
Washington does a lot of that, so they were trying
to prepare for that as well. But ultimately, when you
run that no huddle, you're gonna go from twenty to
twenty pretty fast, and then it's just to you to
stop them as they get into the red zone and
hold them to a field goal. So I see where
they were trying to do in that particular situation. But
the one thing that you probably will hear, especially on

(11:29):
Tuesday during his press conference, he'll say, hey, we missed
on the special teams, but also our defense has to
defend every blade of grass, and in that particular situation,
it doesn't matter how you get on the field, you
have to hold them to a field goal in that situation.
So that's going to be a teaching moment for the defense,
at least in that perspective.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
What else you got Parks.

Speaker 8 (11:49):
A few more things is I mean, Russ is a man.
He's placing balls that only receivers can get to. He's
placing balls in the hands that the defensive backs have
no opportun tunity. Two our wide receivers came up with
some big plays, maybe missed a few. Uh again, I
think Ross to the man to this situation. I just
want to give a shout out to Aaron Bailey on

(12:10):
their engagement and my boy Rory Lockhart on his wedding.
Thank you guys very much, best the Fetch Batch Foundation.
Keep that going, Mike. I appreciate you every week. Let's
keep it rolling, boys.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah, I appreciate it. Thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
Thanks for to call. But Russell Wilson can do this. Yeah,
this just then.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
Absolutely, he's good.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
This is why they went after him when they went
after him.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
But this is what we talked about three weeks ago
when this was happening, and everybody was an uproar because
of it. But you look at that experience and regardless
of how the game unfolds, and I know Russ finished
with the ninety three rating or something like.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
That completion, but the first interception and the.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
One that he's going to sit back and everybody's saying, Rush,
you can't make that throw guarantee you to win. Push
that ball to the inside there, And that's going to
be saying one, know what as I unfold and really
get to the point of learning, as this weather starts
to change in November and December football and eventually January,
you have to play that into actor as it relates
to going one direction. If the wind is blowing left
to right, if he's going to push the ball back,
you can't push the ball down the field. And I

(13:06):
think that's what happened on that particular interception. But to
Mike Williams perspective, I promise you is these sound bites,
get ready to come out that side of the throughout
the show, he will get a game ball. You've only
been here a couple of days, but you made the
winning play when it mattered and ultimately put the touchdown
on the board that gave you to win.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
And honestly, Charlie, I think this is what I envisioned
out of Mike Williams. I was talking about this on
the DV morning show throughout last week. I don't expect
this guy to catch eight balls for one hundred and
twenty yards. He's got to be impactful, get a third
down that keeps the drive going, get a touchdown maybe
you know, maybe not the game winner every week, but
just he got targeted one time today, right, and he

(13:44):
caught the ball and.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Scored one for thirty two at a game winner.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
So I think, I don't think it's going to be
a preponderance of numbers for him. It's going to be impact,
a lot of bang for the buck, right.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
And I think when you get traded this point of
the season, you're just trying to get the basis of
the playbook. They're going to now accelerate that learning curve
for you. But it's one thing to know to playbook.
But when you're at the line of scrimmage and Russell
has the flexibility of the entire playbook and he changes
the play he expects you to know what that looks like,
and I don't. It's going to take him some time
to get there. That's where they'll start easing him in

(14:14):
more plays than what you saw here today.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
Thanks to doing it right.

Speaker 2 (14:17):

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Welcome back Mike Pursuer and Charlie Batch with you in
the wake of Steelers twenty eight. Commanders twenty seven four
one two three three three nine three eight three is
our number. Back to the phones, we go one in
South Carolina.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
You're up next.

Speaker 12 (14:54):
Hey, good evening, guys.

Speaker 11 (14:55):
How y'all do it?

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Oh good?

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Get my breath back? Thank you?

Speaker 6 (15:00):
I know right.

Speaker 12 (15:01):
Mike Williams, just to just give guys the heads out.
He's like an all the way from his hometown. Was
like an all the way from Charleston, well man, he's
from Fans South South Carolina. So he did a good
job on that play route. And also it was a
good game Commanders. They got a good QB. But also
on that last play and when he got called back

(15:21):
for the holding and when he was an end zone,
we should have got a seefety because TG was getting
held in the report and see that he looked.

Speaker 6 (15:28):
At TG.

Speaker 4 (15:30):
I would agree, Yeah, a great angles that we saw
there as well, and immediately saw TJ as he went
to the ground thing and looking at the rest saying
what's going on? I got held, but obviously he has
a better view than what we're doing versus the TV version.

Speaker 12 (15:43):
Yeah, and and shout out to Cam Sutn because he
did a good job when this first game. Back to
and shout out Tom guy Bush up and see all
you guys have a good one.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Thanks for the call one. Let's keep the phone calls
coming in Linda in Myrtle Beach. You're up next with
Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 13 (15:59):
Hi, guys, guys, I'm telling you games like that, I
don't need to do my workout. My heart rate for
the second half was like one twenty five of the
whole second half. Wan just covered one of the things
I wanted to ask about. That's why the safety wasn't called.
But also like, don't you think there was holding on
that field goal attempt on that when they made the

(16:20):
field goal?

Speaker 10 (16:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 14 (16:22):
Yeah, that was good too.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
That was bad.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Yeah, it wasn't the grass weekend for officiating in some
of the college games. I saw yesterday were pretty adventurous too.
But you know what they say, Linda, you can't. You know,
the referees don't decide. You always have a chance to
do something better before or after those calls that you
don't like, So you just got to play through them.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
That's there's no other hard for sure.

Speaker 12 (16:42):
For sure.

Speaker 11 (16:43):
Yep.

Speaker 13 (16:43):
And I want to shout out Patrick Queen. I think
he had a great game today.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
Yeah, I agree with you.

Speaker 15 (16:49):
There.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
There were a couple of plays you can just slicing
through the line of scrimmage there. He finished the game,
uh with what he has seven tackles here today, but
they were impactful plays. A couple of tackle for losses there.
And he's starting to come on board. And that's that
speed that they're looking for in that middle of the defense.
And glad he's on our team.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Anything else, Linda.

Speaker 13 (17:08):
One other things, I thought it was pretty funny. The
first time I saw Mike Williams on the field was
when Nage was shoving him out of the lad to
make a run.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Yeah, I kind of ran them over. Welcome to Pittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
But he'll figure he'll figure out how hard note he
runs sooner rather than later. Thanks, for the call, Linda.
Let's keep the phone calls coming in. Jim in Naples, Florida.
You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 14 (17:33):
Hey, hey there, guys, what an impressive win. This is
a classic typical Steeler win, rolling, grind it all, hang
in there, then I'll top the other team in the
final minutes and for a close win. This is what

(17:55):
the reason that Steeler fans and Steeler Nation spam the globe.
This is why they waived the tiles. This is a
great one. And my question is really for Charlie Wilson
is definitely the man. I mean, this is the exact
leader they've been desperate for for several years now. Since

(18:20):
been kind of last few years and then when he retired. Uh,
he's veteran leadership, better in judgment, big game experience, calm,
cool and collected.

Speaker 15 (18:33):
Back there.

Speaker 14 (18:34):
So, Charlie is these last few games, has he been
giving you any flashback?

Speaker 10 (18:41):
His little Russ.

Speaker 14 (18:43):
Been giving you any flashbacks? And Big Ben just any
any games you can recall, just that he's he just
you can feel that they're gonna come back and win.
Any stories you might have.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
Yeah, it is not necessarily a lot of stories.

Speaker 16 (18:59):
That way.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
I think when I just look at similarity between Ben
and Rush, you just look at it that the game
is not too big as it's slowing down, and no
matter what, mentally, there were always one step ahead of
that defense. And right now you're starting to see Russ
get to that point because of these things were going on.
And I'm sitting here talking to Mike and he's looking
at me, even on the fourth down play and I'm like,
it looks like Arthur Smith is calling calling the play

(19:20):
to go for it, and He's like, no way, And
sure enough you know that was the one that drew
the off side penalty there. But I think ultimately prior
to that play, conversation took place between offensive coordinator and
Russell Wilson as Calvin Austin was being is leaving the
field and he's like, I see something. Did that now
prompt him to say, I need Mike Smith one on
one to my left hand side.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
Those are conversations that your coordinators listen to veteran quarterbacks
because you're seeing it and when you have that feel
of the game, the coordinator is gonna work with you.
And those plays happened in the manner that they did
right there, especially when Russell was able to deliver a
perfect pass to Mike there.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
Jimma just sad that this says no comparison to Rothelsburger
one way or another. But being around Russell Wilson since
this spring, he exudes what some people have described as
toxic positivity. He just he never gets down, He never
sees something that can't be done. And I'm gonna take
a wild guest that his attitude throughout that game today,

(20:18):
even after the Jalen Warren fumble on the one yard line,
which hey, that might have broken a lesser team, right,
you go all that way and then and then give
the ball up when you're.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
Right on the edge of the goal line.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
I think Russ had a hand and keeping everybody together,
keeping everybody tight, keeping everybody thinking the next play was
going to be the one that wins the game for him.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
And when you just watch him in practice, it's very
similar to Ben. When you watch them in practice, there's
things that he's thinking about and he's pulling gays to
the side, saying, Okay, yes, this a defensive period, but
we're gonna work on the other side. And the same
thing with Ben was doing. It's the same thing that
Russ is doing. They have not talked in that particular manner,
but you can see the similarities there, and that's why
Russ is starting to get the reputation that this guy

(20:58):
is always working. And when you hear that coming out
of the South Side, they're paying attention to it. Not
just coming in early, but when you're on a practice field,
you're working with your guys knowing that it's going to
strengthen his team and it's paying off that be big
ways Right now.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Jim, thanks for the call. We are up against the
break and thanks to Doing it Right Roofing, Siding and

Speaker 17 (21:34):
Wilson settles back, raises the foot, gets the snap back
to pass looking could have floated up left for Williams
and Williams rap.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Hit the end zone?

Speaker 5 (21:44):
What a throw?

Speaker 18 (21:45):
Want to catch?

Speaker 19 (21:46):
Mike Williams did his first game in a Steelers uniform
has hauled in a thirty two yard touchdown strike from
Russell Wilson.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Absolutely, that was today's electrified play the game, and that
is powered by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local
Union number five i b e W lighting up Pittsburgh
since eighteen ninety seven. Back to the phones, Tony in Providence.
You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 11 (22:15):
Hey, Mike and Charlie, Welcome to Pittsburgh, Williams. Catch what
are playing?

Speaker 9 (22:21):
Right?

Speaker 11 (22:21):
How about the new play a while? I mean, Charlie,
that means a lot. I gotta say it, Well, you
just said a little while ago. For you just say
you go to practice and you like Whistle's approach and demeanor.
That means a lot, Charlie, come from you because you're
a class guy.

Speaker 10 (22:36):
You know.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
Thank you.

Speaker 11 (22:38):
No, you don't like it is you see a lot.
I have my doubts about him because of a lot
of things. But I gotta say, you gotta give them credit.
You got the job done. And I thought, and the
announced its it on TV that Warren they should have
stopped the play guys, I mean dot pumblling. It shouldn't happen.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
Yeah, that's that.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
We're kind of talking about that with Linda a minute ago.
There are gonna be calls.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
That you get outraged over, but you can't let those
calls defeat you just got to play the next play
you do.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
In the momentum, you thought, okay, if there was a chance,
and I thought Darnell Washington was actually coming in to
try to move the power as well. But they've been
letting that play go throughout the season. But if it
went for a touchdown, we wouldn't be sitting here complaining, right,
That's just how it works. But ultimately that's going to
be one Jalen once back, and I promise you throughout
the week, there'll probably be somebody running the story about
how Jalen is actually carrying a football around everywhere he

(23:30):
goes and before he's done it before, and that is
going to be something you probably will see this week.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
Anything else, Tony, And.

Speaker 11 (23:38):
Yeah, just the next couple of weeks. Obviously we're going
into our division. Well, when you have won like obviously,
you want to win on the least two or three
for division fows or at least hopefully all of them.
But what's the wistern Areio two or three we're gonna love.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
I was looking at the kind of the six division games, Uh,
three and three wouldn't surprise me, just because of the
nature of AFC North Ball.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
If they could go four and two.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Then you look at the other three games, the non
division games today Philly and Kansas City. I was kind
of hoping minimum one of those three and get the
ten wins.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Maybe they go a little high.

Speaker 4 (24:10):
They're gonna have to be. They're gonna have to win
at least five division games this season for them to
do it, especially in the manner of when you're seeing
these games over the next two months. Just to win
the division, that's just gonna be me. And obviously they're
starting here with Baltimore this week, but when you look
at just how it's kind of sectioned out, they have
three games in eleven days, quite frankly, because right now, yes,

(24:30):
we do count today and then you have a game Sunday,
then he turn around and play at the Browns the
following Thursday. So this is going to be critical. They've
not got a lot of celebration. That's gonna happen here
today only because they know they need their rest because
of the game that they have and obviously the short week.
You don't get the rest until after the week of
the Cleveland game, which actually will be what the twenty second,
the weekend of the twenty second that they're having there,

(24:52):
so they understand what's a stake right now.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Thanks for the call, Tony. Let's move on to Jeff
in Ohio. You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 20 (25:00):
I didn't and gentlemen, a real solid win and that
was a gun check battle through some adversity. You know,
they had some calls went the other way like you
guys talked about. I just thought that was a real,
real solid win a couple of points. And I had
a question for you. I thought that D line had some.

Speaker 10 (25:16):
Real big plays.

Speaker 20 (25:17):
Ogunjobi and Kim was awesome today and that just amazing
at his age, how just he it seems to keep
playing so well. And the one that I wanted to
mention with the D line though, how about to play
Benton made right after the two minute warning. If he
doesn't make that shoestring tackle on Daniels, we may not
be walking out with the w I mean that was
a huge play. I think it was right after the

(25:38):
two minute warning around a fifty yard line.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
Yeah, Charlie meagined that we were watching the game here
in the studio and he said, that's an eight ten
yard game if he doesn't make that play.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
Absolutely, Yeah, that is a big way. That won't be
talked about as much, but we noticed it right now
and you'll start seeing people highlight that clip because of
how the impactful that play could have been.

Speaker 20 (25:56):
Yeah, I agree one hundred percent. And that The other
one I was going to talk about was the running game.
I thought it showed a lot of perseverance with Arthur
Smith and the offense, because you know, we were struggling
at times, getting some stopped in the backfield short games,
but they just kept sticking with it, sticking with it,
and you know, even that drive Warren fumbled, I mean,
he had a couple of great runs and it just
seemed like we were hammering away. And I didn't get

(26:19):
the final stats, it had to be close to one
hundred and fifty. I don't know where we wrapped it
was pretty pretty impressive.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
Jeffery hit the nail on the head with perseverance, you know,
they only averaged three point three yards of carry, which
isn't great, but forty three attempts for one hundred and
forty yards, if you could run the ball forty three times,
you're probably gonna win.

Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah, I agree, I don't care what your average is.

Speaker 4 (26:41):
And I think that you go through that. Yeah, you
don't have to have three four hundred yard passing yards
figuring out a way just to get out of that
stadium with the victory. And when you have forty three
attempts rushing, that should open up the play action game.
But then ultimately Russ is learning something right. As much
as he much ball as he's played throughout the course
of his career, he doesn't have to He doesn't have
to make those big plays down the field. Just don't

(27:02):
lose it because how good your defense is playing right now?
And when you have that formula, now he's going to
pick and choose when he attempts to push that ball
down the field. And ultimately, when you have a veteran
quarterback in that particular manner and you can lean on
the defense, that's winning formula.

Speaker 20 (27:17):
Yeah. The question I have for you guys with the
trade just looms so large now with with you know,
with high Smith's looking like he's probably going to be
done with that. The trade is just massive for both
of those because I think Williams impact today and obviously
Preston Smith's going to play a big role. My question is,
you know, I was kind of tempering the enthusiasm in
the first few weeks. We have some holes, we have

(27:38):
some weakness as flaws, et cetera. We go on the road,
you get a big road win over a team that's
going to be in the playoffs, a good football team.
I mean, I think Jami Nails is very good player.
Right now. A question for you guys is when do
we consider ourselves a contender.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
You know, you got your Buffalo KI long long time away.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Just take I hate to sound like coach cliche, but
take them one week at a time. Uh, Baltimore's the
next challenge that's gonna be massive. I think they're trending
in that direction, Jeff, but we're not gonna know that
really till we get to the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
I will probably call you right after Christmas whether this
team is how serious it is, only because everybody who's
anticipated being in the playoffs. AFC, NFC You're gonna have
to face them right now on your on your schedule.
So that's why I think you tabled that particular discussion
until a later date.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
Thanks to Doing It Right Roofing, Siding and Remodeling Home
of the Lifetime Workmanship Warranty Roofing Contractor Pittsburgh dot Com
for bringing us this hour the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network
Postgame Show. The show continues right here on the Steelers
Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show, which presented by Doing It
Right Roofing, Siding and Remodeling Home up the Lifetime Workmanship Warranty.

Speaker 21 (28:48):
Yeah, every time we win, it's satisfying, you know.

Speaker 9 (28:49):
That's you know it was.

Speaker 21 (28:52):
It was a big time catch by Mike.

Speaker 16 (28:54):
You know.

Speaker 21 (28:54):
I just try to give him a chance, you know,
and let him do his thing. You know, as a
guy said, you know, three plus thousand yard seasons over
his career, a guy who's made plays, a guy who's
faced some adversity.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
You know, you love it when guys face.

Speaker 21 (29:06):
Adversity and they come through on the other end of it,
you know. And uh, you know, he had a great
week of practice. I thought all of our guys had
a great week of practice.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
We battled, we knew.

Speaker 21 (29:14):
This is a really good football team, really good football team,
and they play, they play hard, they play tough throughout
the game.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
That was Russell Wilson talking about Mike Williams. I guess
he was in the right spot that time.

Speaker 22 (29:24):
Yes he was.

Speaker 4 (29:25):
And I love it when you hear it. You know
he's talking about guys who's been in university. When you
look at just Russell, he's the same way Denver didn't
want him, was here with us, same way the Jets
didn't want them, both of them mirror making contributions to
the Steelers here. And I just love listening to that
sound bite.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Same way Atlanta didn't want the offensive coordinator, same way
Chicago didn't want Justin Fields.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
Here you go, good guys, a little bit well the
ship on their shore. You love it absolutely.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Sometimes up can work for you.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Four one two, three, three, three, nine three eight three
is our number hut in Ohio.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 6 (29:57):
Hey, you guys, don't see well.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
How you doing doing well?

Speaker 6 (30:01):
I'm doing pretty well too. I have a couple of
things real quick. I want to ask you this first,
Roger Jones. Is he able to come back from whatever
is happening to him? Because there was a couple full
while plays he blocked that blew my brain away. But
on the corner, he's just it just seems so weak.
Is it the Devin Bush scared, you know, was afraid

(30:24):
to get bit by a doll thing? What are you thinking?

Speaker 2 (30:26):
I don't think it's that all I can tell you.
We a bunch of us talked to Pat Meyer, the
offensive line coach, during the bye week when they made
the assistance available, and Pat said, he's just got to
learn faster. Talking about Broderick Jones, they think he has
the physical skill they think he has the physical skill set.
They're not down on his attitude or his approach, but Charlie,

(30:47):
the inconsistencies are glaring, Yeah, and they need to clean
those up sooner rather than later.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
And they have to. And I think ultimately, you know,
just watching as I'm watching these games, I think he's
battling something. I don't know what that something is. From
an injury perspective, hope maybe got a little healthy during
the bow week, but ultimately we're going to need him
to play a little bit more consistently. There and he
did leave the game before a play, but he did
re enter, So I would expect to have him here

(31:12):
healthy for the Ravens game as well. But I'm with you,
he just needs to do a little bit more. But
I would not put him in that Devin Bush category
at all. He is nowhere close to that at this
particular stage of his career.

Speaker 6 (31:22):
Seems it was just a regression from last season. It's
almost like he asked it the floor yet Tod he
you did a flour, you get that cup. He just
seems like he has the floor. I don't know, he
worries me.

Speaker 9 (31:33):
You know.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
The other thing about that hut.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
We talked to Max Starks about it on the pregame
show today and Max mentioned when they threw Broderick Jones
in as a rookie last year, they were a mess
along the offensive line, and he played better than what
they had. But your bar of judging him as a
rookie throw in is different than what it is now.
And Max's point was we probably didn't pay quite as

(31:57):
much attention to you know, things started going better, they
started the ball.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
Hey, it's great the kids and.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
He's playing are starting to win some games. He maybe
wasn't as good last year as we thought. In retrospect,
he's definitely not progressed. Regression is probably probably closer to
that than a progression.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
Yeah, and I agree with that. And I think if
you look back, just as the formula as it relates
to maybe when these guys are ready, if you look
at Broderick Jones, yes, first round pick, he wasn't a
day one starter, so it wasn't like he was in
he had to earn because they did have choops okafor
on that offensive line. And then you look at it
very similar this year. You look at Troy Fontana. He
wasn't a day one starter, and of course the injury
occurred to him, and we didn't know where that was

(32:35):
going to be at that particular point. When I say
day one starter, meaning when you look shot line up
in training camp, you are the starter as they prepare
for the season, neither one of those two guys were it.
But right now, both of those two are work in
progress right now, and we're just going to see how
it unfolds. But like I said, I'm not down on
Broderick Jones at this particular point. I just want to
see him continuously get better as the season goes on.

Speaker 6 (32:58):
It's wild lot of you guys. You so much. He's
my mind a little bit even.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
That's what we're here for to day from Florida. You're
up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 22 (33:09):
Hey, guys, how are you tonight?

Speaker 3 (33:11):
Good?

Speaker 4 (33:11):
How about yourself?

Speaker 22 (33:13):
All right? Good win mail by the Uh boy, I
tell you, Russell threw some nice, nice uh dimes there
putting the ball perfect perfect him and Pickings. Uh to
have something special going on here in the connection. Uh.

(33:35):
They really seemed like this thought to come together. I
like the new additions that we got. Preston Smith. From
what I was looking at, you seemed to be pretty good.

Speaker 7 (33:48):
Uh.

Speaker 22 (33:48):
It fits in pretty well. He's a pretty big guy too. Yeah. Huh.
Mike Williams, what a catch. That was a great catch
that that was not an easy catch.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
Yeah, that's kind of what he does, Dave.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
He gets down the field and either he goes up,
goes up and gets it.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Or he makes the play that he made today tracking
the ball.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
And that's what you want. And we've seen it with
that with George Pickens, and of course we're going to
hopefully with Mike Williams continue. But I just want to
touch on Preston Smith here for a minute. This guy here,
you make that trade. Yet, defense is a little easier
when make trades because you're plug and play, just understanding
where the lineup if you're a pass rusher. But right now,
based off where he was at, I thought they brought
him in because you were unsure of where Nick Herbert

(34:27):
was going to be from a health perspective. Yes, they're
anticipating him for the Ravens game, but then you lose
Alex Heisman with this huge blow in this But again
you have debt at that particular position. So it's going
to be interesting to see how Mike Tomlin works this
se nd. Do you prepare for Nick Herbert to be
ready and start against the Ravens or do you go
with Smith and then now allow Herbick, who is very

(34:48):
good on special teams, to now be your third pass rusher.
So it's going to be an interesting conversation that Mike
Tomlin's going to have to have with his staff and
figuring out how they navigate this Ravens game that they
move forward.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
Dave, thanks for the call.

Speaker 2 (34:59):
We are up again to break, and thanks also to
doing it right roofing, siding and remodeling home with a
lifetime workmanship warranty seven to four new roof for bringing
us to sour of the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network Postgame Show.
The show continues right here on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show, which presented by Caldiente Pizza
and Drafthouse.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
The Pizza Up Champions.

Speaker 17 (35:22):
Gets a snap looking to the right, He's gonna loft
towards the corner of the end zone and pickts, Oh.

Speaker 19 (35:28):
My goodness, what a catch by George Pickens. An amazing
catch in the back of.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
The end zone.

Speaker 23 (35:36):
I'll probably just say, you know, letting the ball loose.
That's one of his biggest components of his game, trusting
the receivers. You know, when it's a certain coverage, when
you see certain space front poland, back poland, he's gonna
release it. So his mentality for throwing the balls, for
sure superb. Going after practice, throwing before practice. Watching means
watching films and you know, other guys, so we can

(35:56):
get our connection. You know, where's a one. I'll probably
say it that's the most one.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
His mentality for throwing the ball is for sure, superb.
How many years we've been waiting on that, Chuck.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
They're waiting on and Roethlisberger retires, So yeah, I love it.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
I read a while and.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
When you hear the excitement in the receiver's voice because
they know he's going to give you a chance down
the field. They may not be perfect, and everybody says
it was a moon ball. No, he's given his receivers
a chance down the field, throwing it to an open spot.
That's what you're that's the saying of throwing your receivers open.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
Today's look Ahead lines are brought to you by Bette
Rivers Online casino and sportsbook. It's a whole new game
gambling problem called one eight hundred gambler good one tonight
Detroit minus three and a half at Houston.

Speaker 3 (36:40):
Your total there is fifty.

Speaker 22 (36:41):
Boy.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
I like your old Lions team, Chuck.

Speaker 4 (36:43):
They're playing great.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
They really are.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
The Only thing I wonder about that that coach continues
to go for it when he should kick field goals.
They're getting away with it because they're pretty good. But
I could see it happening again at the wrong time.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
I definitely can, and it would be a great thing
for me. If I was to sit back and meet
right prepare for the super Bowl and the Steelers are
facing the lines.

Speaker 3 (37:03):
Yeah, way four one three eight three is our number.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Back to the telephones. Larry in moon Township, thanks for
hanging in there, Larry.

Speaker 10 (37:15):
Hey, guys, I just I'm just so thankful for the
quality of coverage that you guys provide late on these
postgame shows, particularly with late night games.

Speaker 11 (37:24):
Glad it was.

Speaker 10 (37:25):
An early game today, and but I want to tell
all the fans out there, if you guys are not
muting your television and listening to Rob, Rob King and
Craig Wolfley like you're missing a true Steeler experience. It's
it's amazing. I love those guys. Think they're doing a
tremendous job. And just shout out to all the podcasts

(37:46):
on Filer Nation Radio. You guys are second to none.
So thanks for all you do.

Speaker 16 (37:50):
Well.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
I appreciate you saying that there are a lot of
people that work pretty hard at doing this, and Craig
Wolfley and Rob King are guys we are especially proud
of here at the Steelers Audio Network work, and thanks
for the shout out to them.

Speaker 4 (38:02):
No doubt about it.

Speaker 10 (38:03):
I did a two. I did have two quick questions.
The first question is, uh, was already update on Alex Highsmith.

Speaker 4 (38:11):
No, No, we didn't get any and Tomlin didn't address
it in this post game just so.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
He didn't come back, right, And I think, okay, it's
probably not going to be back for a couple of
weeks at minimum.

Speaker 6 (38:20):
Right.

Speaker 4 (38:20):
Okay, that goes back to that old saying that I
always stay on air. If the gay leads the game
and doesn't return, chances of playing the following week are slim.

Speaker 10 (38:28):
Yeah, well, thanks for that update. We're definitely be praying
for him, and thankful that Press and Smith joined the
squad and close to getting back, everybody was screaming.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Everybody was screaming for a wide receiver, but they turned
out they needed an edge rusher.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
Good thing they got.

Speaker 10 (38:43):
Well, oh, Mark on that guy, say he's worth his
weight and going on whatever they're paying him, it's it's
he's worth every tenning. But here's another other question. Uh,
you know, just thinking about the Denver Broncos and this
historic salary cap dump they did to get rid of
Russell Wilson, all the negative rhetoric that was coming out
of Denver in the whole league. But didn't you look

(39:06):
at what we've got, Like did he do something to
change or is this really the fact that Mike Tomlin
is really significantly better at leading men than Sean Payton?
Like what do you guys think?

Speaker 6 (39:18):
You know?

Speaker 2 (39:18):
I wouldn't even say that. Sean Payton and Mike Tomlin
have pretty similar track records and resumes. For whatever reason,
Sean Payton arrived at a point where he could not
live in a world that had Russell Wilson as his quarterback.

Speaker 4 (39:32):
But whatever opinion that he had going into Denver, he
carried that and didn't allow Russell to come out of that.
For me, I looked at it as a salary cap
dumb just like you mentioned. It was one of those things, Hey,
let's try to figure it out, paying this year and
allow him to move forward. But when you look at
where Russell's that last year, he was over three thousand yards,
twenty six touchdown, seven interception. When you look at that ratio,
you're like, why are you moving on from a guy

(39:54):
like I won five in a row with him.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
They beat teams that were going to the playoffs, They
won games late.

Speaker 3 (40:00):
I don't know where the negativity.

Speaker 4 (40:02):
Came from, and that's where national media they started now
creating this narrative. But when he got here, you're like, wow,
this guy works his tail off. He was there and
you figured he was going to be the starter. He
was battling Justin Fields in training camp till the injury occurred.
But ultimately when he was named the captain. They'll let
you know the respect that the players had for him
on that roster to say, you're newly acquired, but you

(40:23):
are a leader. We need that. And you're starting to
see that now occur in these games and the guys
are following and all you got to do is look
at George picking SoundBite and he says it right there.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
Superb at throwing the football. Not good, not great, superb
at throwing the football.

Speaker 10 (40:45):
Absolutely. I love I love the camaraderie with Russell uh
and and Justin. I think that's just talking about professionalism
and everything a team sports about. That's amazing and the
way so just excited. Thanks. Thanks, guys, You're going to
such an stating job with your coverage.

Speaker 3 (41:02):
Appreciate the calling, all the kind words.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
You know that Justin Fields Russell Wilson relationship predates those
two guys ended up in Pittsburgh, absolutely, and that helps it.
There was a mentor protege thing going on for a
long time.

Speaker 4 (41:14):
And people don't they don't hear that side of it.
They just think, okay, competition is there. But ultimately, when
you hear Russell talk about the first person he thinks
was justin Fields for getting him to the four and
two point to say thank you for getting this to
this point. Now as he's taking over and allow him
to now carry it on. You win three in a
row and now you're preparing for the AFC North Football.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
Now'll just add this before we go to break. Some
of the word I got out of Denver was this
was a Peyton thing. It wasn't a Wilson thing. Like
I heard about the work ethic and the bonding with
the teammates and the inspiration and that he still had game.

Speaker 3 (41:45):
He was not washed up.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
And you know what happened with him getting released was
not reflective of him as a player.

Speaker 3 (41:52):
Right.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
And I can just say at this point, Charlie, he's
three and zero and Russell Wilson is who we thought
he was.

Speaker 4 (41:59):
Absolutely and when you hear him talk and before the
season started, he's every SoundBite that came out of his mouth.
He said, I'm preparing for twenty three or twenty four
game season. That lets you know he's thinking about winning
the super Bowl. That's where it was at and is
never waiver from there. So if you hear that sound bite,
that'll lets you know where his mindset is at.

Speaker 2 (42:17):
You know, with all his positivity, I was thinking, you know,
they're going to lose a game and he's going to
say everything's fine and Rosie and people are gonna hate that.

Speaker 3 (42:24):
But maybe they won't lose a game, you know.

Speaker 4 (42:27):
But he answered the next question up right, you win
to in primetime home, but how can you now take
it on the road and do so against an opponent
who people deem worthy of now competition. He was able
to do that, deliver on a game winning drive that
mattered to most to now put them over to hump
to get him out of that stadium with a twenty
eight twenty seven victory.

Speaker 3 (42:46):
Thanks to Kelly Anta Peasant Draft House for bringing us
this hour of the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network post game
show Kelly Anta, Peachtt and Draft House The Pizza of Champions.
The show continues right.

Speaker 1 (42:56):
Here on the Steelers Audio Network the Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show.
It was presented by Calciente Pizza and Drafthouse, the Pizza
U Champions.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
Today's Keys to the Game are brought to you by
South Hills Jeep, Pittsburgh's home for all things Jeep.

Speaker 3 (43:17):
Charlie. Uh my key to the game.

Speaker 2 (43:21):
You could pick just about anything in a twenty eight
twenty seven Steelers victory, But the Steelers held the Commanders
to sixty yards rushing. They were averaging one hundred and
sixty three point nine entering the game, and that was
I was calling out the defense on the pregame show saying,
I know you rated number four against the run, but
I didn't see a stop it against the Giants. I

(43:42):
didn't see a stop it against Dallas. I didn't see
a stop it too often against Indianapolis. They needed to
stop the run today they did.

Speaker 4 (43:49):
They did, And my key is going to be that
last drive when the defense needed to make it play.
But Washington was eleven four eleven on fourth down. They
didn't budd They knew they were going for it and
obviously coming up a half a yard short, making a
play that matters. That is my key, right there.

Speaker 2 (44:04):
Four, two, three, three, eight threes are our number. Back
to the phones, we go Ken in Mount Washington. You're
up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 24 (44:14):
Hey, guys, love the show. Hey, I hadn't talked to
you guys since week four. I don't believe like Charlie,
I run a charity and Sunday nights are usually very busy.

Speaker 3 (44:26):
I've got a cold this.

Speaker 24 (44:28):
Weekend, so I've been banned from handling food. But I
wanted to go over and talk about some of the stats,
especially one that Mike just mentioned.

Speaker 3 (44:40):
Okay, please do Yeah.

Speaker 24 (44:43):
I mean, when it comes down to it, all the
statistics when you look at them, are very, very similar,
except for the rushing yards. Ours were at one and
they only got sixty yards. I mean, that's not great totals.
We're only at three point three per rush, but look
at the time that took up on the offensive side,

(45:07):
and let us allow how to dominate the amount of
plays that were against them. So, to me, like Mike,
except for the splash plays that we got from the receivers,
the rushing part was the key to our game. And

(45:28):
to me, my question to you guys is are we
going to be able to keep that up through the
rest of the season, I.

Speaker 4 (45:38):
Would think so. And then obviously it depends on your
your opponent as well. And I think obviously this game
here with Washington, you're preparing for jaded Daniels. That gives
you a week of preparation as you prepare next week.
You know you're sitting back. Oh my gosh, lamar lamar,
lamar Jackson. So mister Jackson, mister Jackson, I was thinking,
But when you get to and prepare for Laura, that

(45:58):
lets you know you have two weeks to So I
think this week comes out a very good time for
the defense on the mistakes that was made against Washington
and then ultimately being able to correct them and get
in preparation for the Ravens coming in.

Speaker 3 (46:09):
Ken, thanks for the phone call.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
We got to run to a break, but before we do, Charlie,
it's a big week of course for the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (46:15):
It's Ravens Week.

Speaker 2 (46:16):
I don't know when that starts, probably officially tomorrow, right,
gets a twenty four hour rule, right, enjoy this one
in tomorrow's Ravens week. But big week for the best
of the Batch Foundation coming up.

Speaker 4 (46:26):
Oh yes it is. We are so excited that we
are celebrating twenty five years a Best of the Batch Foundation,
and we're doing so by holding a pool, poker, and
ping pong event and this helps raise funds for our
steam programs in our after school program. So we're super
excited about it. So that is coming up, so we
are getting close to us sellout, so please get your
tickets as soon as possible here. This is going to

(46:46):
be Thursday, November the fourteenth at seven pm, so we're
super excited about that. You can go to Batch Foundation
dot org see ality information if you are outside the
city but still want to participate. We do have unique
silent auctions that auction items that will be available, so
again that's Batchfoundation dot org. And we just want to
thank everybody who believes and supports the mission and vision
of the Best of the Batch Foundation. So thank you,

(47:07):
thank you, thank you.

Speaker 3 (47:08):
That's amazing twenty five years. You ought to get some
kind of award for that, No.

Speaker 4 (47:12):
I appreciate it. And we keep growing and we really do,
and we service thirty eight hundred kids annually throughout nine
counties to our southwestern PA. So we just so appreciative
of everybody who believes in what we're doing.

Speaker 3 (47:22):
Did you have any idea when you started?

Speaker 4 (47:23):
No, absolutely no that it would be come at to
this level. Yeah, no, I will be lying to you,
Mike if I said I did.

Speaker 3 (47:28):
That's pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
Thanks to Kelly Anti Pizza and draft House for bringing
us this hour of the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network Postgame Show,
cally Ante Pizza and draft House The Pizza of Champions.
The show continues right here on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show, which presented by Caliente Pizza
and Drafthouse The Pizza of Champions.

Speaker 17 (47:52):
Daniels gets a snap play action pass pressure from Camp
Hayward hen he takes him down a sack back in
Commander's territory. Bright Captain Cam Hayward.

Speaker 9 (48:01):
You know, going into this game, we knew they don't
punt the ball often, and that's their calling card. They
have an offense that's explosive, that's methodical, that moves down
the field, doesn't settle for anything less than a field goal.
But when we got off, we felt great about it
because we're providing more opportunities for our punt to you know,

(48:25):
create a splash play and then our our a punt
retory to create a slash play or you know, our
our offense going down getting seven.

Speaker 2 (48:34):
Welcome back to the postgame show here on the Steelers
Audio Network. Mike pursued It and Charlie Batch summon up
Steelers twenty eight Commander's twenty seven. Let's go back to
the phone lines. Cee R in Chicago, you're up next
with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 18 (48:49):
Hey, what's going on? Mike and Charlie and my fielder
buzzes from other mothers.

Speaker 25 (48:52):
This is steel Net Chicago, live in the southeastern corner
of North Carolina, just north of the port side Wanton
home about outside linebacker number fifty six, Alec Hotness Man,
I am just so excited about this game and about
what's going on. But I do want to talk to
feel the nation worldwide because the facts are the facts.

Speaker 2 (49:14):
See hang on one second, well, let me stop you one second.
I just got to tell you something. This is from
the bottom of my heart. We had to buy last week,
so there was no show. I missed hearing that we
missed you.

Speaker 3 (49:25):
That's summation, that's soliloquy that you deliver so well.

Speaker 25 (49:30):
Hey, well, brothers, you know you guys inspired me to
be able to communicate with you guys at the level
that we do, and to kind of meet each other
and talk to each other. I'm a lifelong Feller person
since nineteen excuse me, since in nineteen seventy three when
Joe Gooding was a quarterback and I.

Speaker 18 (49:47):
Fell in love with the feelers. And when you.

Speaker 25 (49:49):
Say bleeding black and gold, trust me, brother, I bleed
black and gold.

Speaker 3 (49:55):
Maybe I ought to see somebody about that. What's on
your mind?

Speaker 18 (50:01):
So you are well?

Speaker 25 (50:03):
I just want to talk to still the next worldwide
because the fact of the facts and the fasts are
the NFL players, rookies and vests, regardless of positions, they
have six specific game tasks that must be accomplished during
any NFL game, and they must be accomplished in the
following order kicking, blocking, tackling, throwing, catching, catching, and running.

(50:26):
When the individual players can accompass these six specific game
pass the results are positive. In this case, you have
a twenty eight twenty seven on the road, come from
behind and wins. We have a seven and two record
atop the AFC Nord. The opportunities to now go into
the rest of the season. Specificys, next three or four

(50:48):
games coming up which are going to be our AFC rivals,
which we have a pretty good.

Speaker 18 (50:53):
Understanding of how to play them.

Speaker 25 (50:55):
I think during the two week period we were all
I think the coaches and the players, everybody got to
get them. They recognize that if you do your task,
positive things can happen.

Speaker 18 (51:05):
I do have an award.

Speaker 25 (51:07):
Out for the next man Up award, and that's the
wide receiver Wills first game, first catch of thirty two
yard game one, and come from behind touchdown win.

Speaker 2 (51:18):
So comments, Uh, appreciate your thoughts on Mike Williams. Appreciate
the next man up award. Uh, the sililoquy about what
football players are supposed to do.

Speaker 3 (51:29):
Let's assume moving forward we all get that right and
you can probably table that for your next phone call.
Thanks a lot to hear from.

Speaker 4 (51:36):
And I think when CR mentions Mike, and I think
this is what you know. Most people aren't familiar with him.
But if you just kind of go through the course
of his career, because people lean on the last couple
of years if you've seen, but throughout the course of
his career he had two thousand yards two thousand yard seasons.
He was a little short of nine hundred one year.
So he does he bring productivity in a way.

Speaker 2 (51:54):
I keep saying three correct, I got a correct them
on that. It's actually two official correct.

Speaker 4 (51:59):
And that's where you get to the point where you
know that he's capable of doing that. Are we asking
him to bring that here immediately right now? No, he
doesn't have to, but you're bringing that. You're solidifying the
group with adding a guy like that to the equation.
And when his number is called, you didn't know because
if you if Calvin will Austin does not go off
the field with an injury, we don't know if that

(52:21):
is Calvin in that position versus Mike. Either way, like
c R said, next man up, Mike was able to
deliver and was able to catch that touchdown pass. A
great job by Mike.

Speaker 2 (52:30):
At the very least, I like him. Has a been there,
done that guy who knows what he's doing. And you know,
these big games that win divisions at the end of
the year or win playoff games, sometimes it comes down
to one play at the right time.

Speaker 3 (52:41):
Yes, that's why it keeps. This guy's not gonna blow
the stat sheet.

Speaker 4 (52:44):
Up, and it's one thing to come in and make
a play and convert a big third down. Now we're
talking about a touchdown, a play that needed to be
made to put your team over the top. Mike was
able to deliver it. That's why I say, I promise you, Mike, Tomlin,
I've been in that locker room. Game ball is going
to go to Mike for making that play in a
big time moment, and that is his Steeler moment in saying,
welcome to Pittsburgh, young fella.

Speaker 2 (53:06):
Let's set one more before the break. Doug in Cannonsburg.
You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 15 (53:11):
Hey, guys, I'm a real big fan of both of you.

Speaker 3 (53:14):
I appreciate that. Thank you.

Speaker 15 (53:16):
I just wanted to say that I thought Fields did
the right, real nice job. But he was in there.
But I don't suspect that they would have won this
game with him. Rush really carried him and it was
one of the book you thought would have happened had
the guy not jumped off side. At the end of
the game, you said, they still would have gone.

Speaker 2 (53:38):
He had to punt, that didn't he I'm thinking, so
I think Tom's falling around and he says, well, I
will never know.

Speaker 3 (53:43):
I mean that would be, Ah, you can't do that.
The field goal gets your beat. You can't take that chance.

Speaker 4 (53:49):
And here's the one thing when you have a veteran quarterback,
I promise you. In our minds, we're like, oh, there's
no way to go through. I've been on that sideline
when Ben Roethlisberger was in that exact situation for time
it happened. Tomlin didn't know what was going on. This
is two thousand and seven. He immediately runs down and
calls the time out. He says, Ben, what's happened? He said, Man,
I got this trust me, And that was when it
was formed. Their relationship was formed. Tomlin called a time out.

(54:13):
But as years went on, Tomlin, I mean Ben would
he would push away and say, no, Mike, give me,
leave me on the field. I will get you in
the right play, and ultimately he would call a time out,
maybe take a snap, take a penalty for a five
yard penalty. And then I've seen Ben actually snap the
ball and make a play down the field and everybody's
like whoo, And I'm thinking to myself, no, there was

(54:35):
no play call there. That was Ben all the way.
You're starting to see that, and I don't know, we
don't know what would have happened in this particular manner,
but all I know is Russell was prepared for that moment.
We'll try to get those answers for you throughout the
course of the week, but that won't come later on.
But at that time we probably won't be able to
leak it anyway, because that's a strategic point that Mike
Tomlin is trying to save face to say. Guess we'll

(54:57):
never know.

Speaker 2 (54:58):
If we get the answer and it's anything, but we
were gonna punt it's the wrong answer. Thanks to Kelly
at Pizza in draft House for bringing us this hour
the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network Postgame Show kellyente Pizza in
Draft House, The Pizza of Champions. The Postgame Show continues
right here on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show is presented by Caliente Pizza
and Drafthouse The Pizza of Champions.

Speaker 3 (55:28):
Welcome Back.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
Twenty eight twenty seven Steelers Over the Commanders, Mike Pursuer
and Charlie Batch talking about it with you here on
the Steelers Audio Network Post Game Show. Four one two three, three,
three nine three eight three is our number let's go
back to the telephone lines. Connor in Holidaysburg. You're up
next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 16 (55:52):
Hey, guys, a great team win today well being able
to pull that out and by the way, very cool
to see some big contributions from the new guys, Preston
Smith and Mike Williams especially. I want to talk today
about leadership. I think leadership matters. In the era of

(56:12):
fantasy football, where it's all about fantasy points, a lot
of things get lost and a lot of people, I'm
sure will get Russell Wilson's stat line today and dismiss it.
But I think there was a lot of leadership there
on the offensive side of the ball from him, as
well as there was on the defensive side of the
ball from Cam Hayward. Those two guys are captains for

(56:35):
a reason. I think they showed it today in a
one point game against a very good team on the road.
I think those two guys led their respective units to victory.
What do you have to say about that? I'll hang
up and listen. Appreciate you guys, love the show as always,
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (56:53):
Thanks for the call.

Speaker 4 (56:54):
Color absolutely and I agree one with you, and I
think when you look at just the makeup of this team,
there's no question that Cam leader is the unquestionable leader.
But again he's on the defensive side. Who's willing to
step up On the offensive side, they were very young
on that side. They needed that veteran presidence and Russell
brings that from that perspective. And I've always said over
the years on the show, if you listened to it,

(57:14):
and I said, you know, on good teams, coaches whole
players accountable, but on great teams, players hold players accountable.
And right now you're seeing what you need from a
veteran presence and a leadership perspective from Cam on the
defensive side, Russell on the offensive side. And if these
things continue to flourish, this is going to be the
exciting second half of the year. And I'm looking forward
to what transpires over than the second half of this season.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
Yeah, I think Russell Wilson's done nothing but leads since
he got here. There was a moment this spring. I've
told this story on the air before, but I think
it's worth of repeating here. Great great point, Connor, by
the way, to get us talking about this, but I
wanted to ask Russell Wilson a question, just a quick question,
and I didn't want it to be in front of
nine thousand other media members. So I was waiting to

(57:58):
get him alone at his locker and he was talking
to an offensive lineman who is a relative nobody in
the grand scheme of things, and they talk for twenty minutes. Yeah,
I had to wait it out to get my but
I'm waiting for Russell. Think, because you don't want to
interrupt them, right, you know, if you're a media guy,
you got to give him a space. And I'm thinking, boy,
this guy he's talking to Russell Wilson for twenty minutes.

(58:19):
He's probably gonna walk away from this conversation feeling ten
feet tall and bulletproof because Russell Wilson spent that much
time with him.

Speaker 4 (58:25):
And that's what planning seeds is, right, And you get
to that point of saying, hey, you may not be
the starter now, but I may need you at some point.
So you're building relationships now. When you're the starter, you're
building them prior to it. And I think ultimately, when
you look at just from a leadership perspective, nobody cares
about your title. People won't follow you until they believe
how much you care and when you look at what
that defensive side of the ball, and that's why I

(58:46):
say with Cam, no question about it. But you're learning
what that looks like from Russell, right. You see the profile,
you see the resume prior to him being here, but
he hasn't done it in the Black and Gold. But
now that he's doing it in the Black and Gold,
when you're playing and delivering on the field, it makes
it a whole heck of a lot easier for guys
to follow you because they believe and they watch how
you work, and now it's translating into what that looks

(59:08):
like on and off the field.

Speaker 3 (59:11):
Sean and Maryland, you're up next with Mike and Charlie. Yeah, hello,
you're on Sean all right.

Speaker 11 (59:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (59:20):
I just want to give a shout out to Mason
McCormick and the pulling Guard plays that he.

Speaker 8 (59:25):
Was involved in.

Speaker 7 (59:26):
I think it opened up the run game and I
think they should keep doing that. What do you guys
think about that?

Speaker 2 (59:33):
I think I feel fortunate that I work in a
market where you can do a postgame show and people
cite the pulling Guard play.

Speaker 4 (59:39):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (59:40):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (59:40):
That's what I think of it, and that's going back
to dominating the line of scrimmers. That's what probably what happens.

Speaker 2 (59:45):
We got a fan base that is styled in you
know what, they're fasting it. There are lots of the
pulling guard play.

Speaker 4 (59:51):
And they questioned us and that's what I love this show.

Speaker 3 (59:54):
But day, that's what I think.

Speaker 4 (59:57):
Yes, keep pushing up, keep pushing the envelope here and
testing our IQ as a relation to what we saw
on the TV. We appreciate you well, I appreciate you guys.

Speaker 26 (01:00:07):
See great job.

Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
Hey, thanks a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
You know, years ago at the DV Morning show, we
got a call and somebody said they this was in
training camp. They said they were alarmed at the performance
of Chucky Yakobe in the one on one blocking thrills.
We got listeners in this mark at the go to
La Trobe, but watch the one on one blocking.

Speaker 3 (01:00:29):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
And they're giving their reports.

Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:31):
They are giving a report and they're gonna let it
be known. And that's the beauty of going away for
training camp because the fans are testing you each and
every day because they're showing up and delivering and they're
watching practice when everybody else is doing so in their
home headquarters. No, the fans are gonna let you know
whether you had a good practice, Oh you didn't, and
they gonna let you know. You need to pick it up, buddy.

Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
Charlie, I already channeled my inner Dennis Green. Now I
gotta go, Marve Levy, where would you rather be? But
right here, right now, right.

Speaker 4 (01:00:58):
There we go?

Speaker 18 (01:00:59):
Is it?

Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
That's what we're talking about, And this is why people
get excited about it. Right this is not you know,
we're not the Homer, and yes we're doing this, but
we're speaking truth as it relates to how we feel
and right now. We didn't waiver from that as this
year went on, and ultimately we get excited just like
you do because we're seeing the results that are happening.
Right now. I'm sensing something special that's going on.

Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
If we get a call about Scornic's gunner play, I'm
gonna lose my mind, but we might. Thanks to Kelly
Ante Pizza in Draft House for bringing us this hour
the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network post game Show, Kelly Ante
Pizza and Draft House, the Pizza of Champions. The postgame
show continues right here on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show, which presented by Caliente Pizza
and Drafthouse, The Pizza of Champions.

Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
Welcome Back, Mike, were suing Charlie Batch with you.

Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
We're talking Steelers twenty eight, Commanders twenty seven War one
two three three three nine three eight three is our number.
Back to the phone lines, we go, Mike in Baltimore.
You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 26 (01:02:01):
Hey, Charlie and Mike. I just wanted to talk about
Scornics gunner player.

Speaker 12 (01:02:05):
A little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
He's pretty good at it.

Speaker 8 (01:02:10):
It all seems very good.

Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
I mean, he gets elevated from the reserve injured list
and they throw him right in, give him a helmet
and put them out there. I mean, I still get
a kick out of Mike Tomlin's reference early in the
season was just about to say when he made it
playing Tomlinson, whoever that other gunner was, did pretty good.

Speaker 4 (01:02:27):
That was eight weeks ago. Name and here right now,
the other the other.

Speaker 3 (01:02:31):
Gun your healthy, get in there, man, do you think?

Speaker 10 (01:02:34):
Hey?

Speaker 22 (01:02:35):
So?

Speaker 16 (01:02:35):
So?

Speaker 26 (01:02:35):
My real point is that last year, it seemed in
the year before on third and three, third and two,
they'd throw this twenty yard sideline pattern that you know
ten percent of the time worked, drove me crazy. It
feels like this year under Arthur Smith, the five yard
slat on third and three to fire to Friar Youth

(01:02:56):
or someone else has been incredibly successful, maybe to Charlie
on the offensive side. Do you see Arthur Smith's fingerprints
all over this offense like I do. It feels like
it's starting to take.

Speaker 4 (01:03:05):
Hold absolutely and watching it, you know he's calling play
to set up the next one. He's showing you a
formation to see if he can get a read on something.
As the game unfold, you're not seeing the repetitive plays
on which we saw over the last couple of years,
and you get frustrated because we as fans can predict
what that play was going to what was going to
happen on that particular play. But when you see all

(01:03:26):
of the action here, you don't know. As he gets
to run action a running game going setting up that
play action game, you're getting more people involved. That has
everything to do with Arthur Smith, because he is actually
providing formations and personnel groups that's going to make a
difference in the game.

Speaker 26 (01:03:44):
Yeah, that's great. Well, I'm happy. This team feels different
to me, so I'm excited about it. Today was a
little bit of a chest thumper in my heart still
hurts a little bit, but the fake punt scared me,
and yet if it worked, I would have said it
was the greatest play ever. But happy to see this team.
I'm in Baltimore, I'm right in the Beltway and can't

(01:04:05):
defeat the Ravens next week. So thanks guys. I appreciate
everything you do.

Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
Appreciate your calling. Now, appreciate I can't believe that's the
first time somebody referenced the fake punt.

Speaker 4 (01:04:14):
Yeah, we talked about it a lot the game, so
I guess.

Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
It's, you know, less of a big deal. But when
they take the vice and bring him down into the
rush formation as the Commanders did, that's absolutely the play
you make, right. I mean, there's nobody there.

Speaker 4 (01:04:31):
And when you watch that film, there's times that he
advice comes in and he falls back out to the receiver.
There must have been a tip inside of there where
you have to credit Danny Smith being able to predict
when that guy was actually going to come and literally
you saw killer Brewce say, oh, I see it. He
threw it out there. Pier has to make that play
like he was trying to move and make the safety
miss before he cast it.

Speaker 3 (01:04:52):
Might have scored, it might have scored, just might have scored.

Speaker 4 (01:04:54):
Just catched the ball. And I think if he makes
that play to your point, Mike, that just validates why
Danny Smith still should be number one as it relates
to Assistant Coach of the Year because of plays and
four designs of plays in the manner that that happened today,
I promise you, even though they didn't connect, the other
head coaches are paying attention to that, saying we need
to be ready for anything at any point on the field.

Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
You know, one one aspect of that play when the guy,
I think it was number thirty five, Percy Butler, was
he was lined up as advice and then he came in.
Once he does that, you're nine on eight in the
rush versus protection. They they're they're out numbering you, so
they could block the punt right Instead, they're they're daring

(01:05:37):
you to throw that ball.

Speaker 4 (01:05:38):
Because you're saying you're playing your percentages in the other
head coach no way the.

Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
Way they're giving you a free first down, and it
might have been a bigger play than that. All James
Fiar got to do is catch the ball then, I
mean an NFL player should be expected to catch that
ball with no duress. And it was a nice lob
from from Killer Brew. Wasn't a Rothlsbury or d and
fifty mile an hour fastball. I mean it should have

(01:06:03):
made the play. But to me it speaks to the
detail of preparation.

Speaker 4 (01:06:06):
It does. And I think if you look back and
you have Danny Smith has done this before, and when
you look at years ago, I think Robert Golden actually
threw a pass at home to I forget that he
was he brought over from the Colts that we brought
it with the receiver Daris Hayward Bay. It was a
huge play against the Bengals during that game. So we've
seen these play before, you just haven't seen it that

(01:06:27):
far backed up.

Speaker 2 (01:06:28):
