The Pittsburgh Steelers postgame Show. Its presented by doing it
Right roofing, siding and remodeling home of the lifetime Workmanship warranty.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
They didn't win the game, but hey, it could have
been worse. It could have been raining. The details of
the Steelers' trip to South Philadelphia may have really resonated
had TJ. Watt not pulled up, gone down, and stayed down. Momentarily,
with the Steelers less than five minutes away from getting
out of Dodge with their dignity, if not the victory
they were seeking, Wade at least walked off under his

(00:32):
own power, tried again against the team of Philadelphia's caliber,
with George Pickens walking onto a field at the height
of his powers, and the result may be different the
next time. In the meantime, the playoffs have been secured
in defeat and the AFC North's Division is there for
the taking. On Saturday, on to Baltimore. Good evening and

(00:55):
welcome to the postgame show on the Steelers Audio Network.
Mike Pursuda and Charlie back with you, summarizing Eagles twenty seven,
Steelers thirteen, Charlie without George Pickens, My expectations were minimal
for this game. They actually, in terms of being scrappy
and finding ways to hang in there, actually did better
than I thought they would. And hey, Mike Tomlin wasn't

(01:17):
excited about clinching the playoffs three minutes after he just
got beat. But that's a big deal.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
It is a big deal.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
And I think when you look at excuse me, when
you look at what was kind of what was going
on and where you gonna get that productivity from in
a receiver group, it was hard because you losing right
at this particular point. George Pickens has six eight hundred
and fifty yards. The rest of the receiver group does
not even have that as a whole, So they needed
to find out who was going to step up. Unfortunately,

(01:43):
they weren't able to convert minimizes on the offensive side,
and when you only have one hundred and sixty three
yards to total offense, that's tough to deal with.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Time now for Maxis Takeaways. That's with sideline reporter Max Starks.
Maxis Takeaways were brought to you by S and T Bank.
For every takeaway from the defense this season, S and
T Bank will donate three hundred dollars to PA wounded
Warriors who have helped over eighteen thousand veterans in counting
Max forget the game, How is TJ? Watt? What did

(02:12):
you see? What did you hear? What do you know?
What do you think?

Speaker 5 (02:17):
Well, I think you know, like you said, it's not yeah, jeez,
sorry sorry, So guys, here here's the sausage behind this.
I am and I allowed to grab food from the
team because it's through TSA, so I have to ask
other people to do it. So there we got little
secret behind the sauce here. But I think when you
look at this game, you know it was tough. If

(02:38):
there was a game to drop, this would have been
that game to drop, right, it would have been a
non conference, non divisional game in this gauntlet that is
three of eleven. And when I say that three games
eleven days that you have to go and do battle
in a very short time framed, and Eagles being one

(02:58):
of those. Of course, Baltimore were on Saturday, you know,
Wednesday contest against the Kansas City Chiefs at home. You
said this was going to be you know, as Craig
Wolf who likes to say this is a cheese greater
part of part of the schedule. I think, you know,
I look at it. You were already down to Sean Elliott.
You're you you lost Dante Jackson early in the secondary,

(03:21):
got hit early in this contest, and you know, the
Eagles came on.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
With a good game plan.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
They're like, hey, this team is obviously focusing on stopping
the run, so let's go to the air. You saw
that first drive, guys, and they went to the air.
Aj Brown, the squeaky wheel, you know, got the oil
and and he made the most out of it. And
of course DeVante Smith had a solid game as well.
So I think when you look at it, it's not great.
The offensive production wasn't there without George Pickens once again,

(03:48):
Nausee having a key fumble in that third quarter that
actually ended up being probably one of the biggest plays
of that second half because they've been rounded off almost
twenty four minutes time of possession. After that, it was
just tough. It was just tough to watch. But at
the end of the day, I say, there's still so
much on the horizon. You still guarantee a playoff spot,
and now you get to go take your desk into

(04:10):
your own hands and win the division. In Baltimore on Saturday,
So not all hope is lost.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Yeah, when they were, you know, you can see the
energy as you've seen that the camera was flashing across
the faces of a lot of players because they felt,
you know, it's one thing to lose the game. Like
you said, it wasn't that devastating, but ultimately they could
have stayed paced and you never knew what had happened.
Potentially for that second it might be maybe that number
one seed. As you look at the just at demeanor
of the sidelline there as they're walking off that field,

(04:38):
what did you what was your take from that?

Speaker 6 (04:41):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (04:42):
Just the demeanor was just an opportunity loss, right. I mean,
you know there were there were some mistackles in this game,
but considering you're playing shorthanded defensively, that was kind of
a little bit to be expected. But I think offensively
just not getting a rhythm really until midway through that
second quarter. Defense came with some huge plays, weren't able
to capitalize. I mean, you get two turnovers and consecutive

(05:02):
drives and you only come away with three points. That's
tough mentally, but they do rebound from that. But you
have to think at one point, it was one hundred
and ninety three yards until offense to eleven guys when
they went up seventeen to three, and so that's just
mentally a killer. But I didn't see just a defeated
mentality on the sideline. I mean, it was kind of like, man,

(05:24):
this sucks. I hate losing. But at the same time,
I didn't feel a deflatedness on the sideline, which was
which was something that's a character growth and maturity growth
for the team.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
And you mentioned they drive there at twenty thirteen and
then you had Najie Harris fumbling there. We didn't see
Naji after that point. We saw Cardero Patterson going to
that game where there were a soft benching that happened
or what was that rotation looking like from a running
back position.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
Well, I just think the biggest thing was there wasn't
that many plays, Chuck, because we only ran thirteen plays
in the second half. So I think they probably put
Prderrell in there to give him some burn because they
hang guy him burn. In the first half, it was
mainly Jalen Warren and Najie Harrison. Then the second half you're like,
you want to work for arroll in it was an opportunity,
but they never got any drives established after that, and

(06:10):
I think, honestly that's what it was. Was that was
there was only ten offensive plays total ramps Chuck, so
so they didn't even get a chance to even get
into a rotation or a rhythm. It was just like, hey,
the couple of opportunities, it was like, oh, it looked
pretty good, and then they just never got the ball
back and that that was what was really crazy to
watch in this second half, just really be consumed by

(06:34):
the Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Max Are Calling. Charlie Batch likes to point out that
guys who don't come back into a game upon being
injured usually don't play the next game. The next game
is on Saturday, not Sunday. And oh, by the way,
just a little bit at stake the AFC North Division Championship.
What's your best guess on number ninety?

Speaker 5 (06:56):
Best guests on number ninety playing in Baltimore?

Speaker 7 (07:01):
Yeah, I mean I.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
Probably say it's a sixty chance, just because they tried
to get him going. They tried to tape him up
and see how he felt. Now, granted, did that happen.
He didn't go back and didn't feel good enough. But
I also think it was being precautious, like why risk
you at this point when you know there's not that

(07:22):
there's not that much.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Time over with.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
So I would say I feel better than half. So
I'd say sixty percent chance he plays against Baltimore, just
because it didn't look as serious. He didn't go straight
to the tent they worked on, and then they took
him in the tent to tape him up, and then
he came back out afterwards, and you know, it was
just like, is it worth it? You're way more valuable
to us. Over the next couple of weeks, she is

(07:46):
getting back into this game.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Max. Appreciate it as always enjoy what you got from Tsao,
though I'd have thought a veteran, a veteran of your experience,
would have made a quick detour to Pat Steaks.

Speaker 8 (08:04):
Woods.

Speaker 5 (08:05):
I went to Woodrow's before the game and got the
trufle trufle W Whiz, and afterwards there were Angelo's cheesesteaks here,
so I grabbed Angelo's cheese steak, and my favorite is Jim's.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
I didn't have time to go to Jim's fellows, at least.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
We know he has cheese. Whatever you order.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Where else are you gonna get the information you have
to have? Max appreciate it. We'll talk to you next
Saturday before and after the Ravens game.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
All right, sounds good fellas, have a good weekend.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
That was Sideline reporter Max Starks with Max's takeaways. Thanks
to doing it Right Roofing, siding and remodeling home with
the Lifetime Workman Ship Warranty seven to four new roof
for bringing us this hour of the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio
Network Postgame Show. The show continues right here on the
Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Post Game Show, which presented by Doing
it Right Roofing, siding and Remodeling Home up on Lifetime
Workmanship Warranty.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Welcome back to the postgame show here on the Steelers
Audio Network. Four one two three, three, three, nine, three
eight three is our number. Mike, Mike Pursuda, and Charlie
Batch with you in the wake of Eagles twenty seven
Steelers thirteen. Let's go uh right to the telephones and
get things started with one in South Carolina. One. You're

(09:25):
hitting the lead off tonight. Hello, Wan, are you there?
Wan's not there? Let's go to hut in Ohio Hutt.
You are pinch hitting for one who is no longer
the leadoff hitter.

Speaker 7 (09:41):
I guess one means too O hell that throwed me off. Okay,
I want to ask a couple of things. At what
you think about it? I mean, Russell Wilson have a
rough day today the line gett into. Is Billy's defense

(10:02):
that good? Or is this just show on our weak
side of the right line? You know, I mean, I'm
not sure.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Wow, they're really good.

Speaker 7 (10:09):
I mean that first place, I know they're great, but
it just seemed like es that's all had no time today.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
Yet they are solid. They're good as any defense that
you're going to see in the National Football League. When
you lose your deep threat and George Pickens, they know
and you're preparing at you know, you know he's not
playing as you prepare for this. The offense, when you
look at the receiver group as a whole, they don't
even add up to what George is put on this
season and fifty yards they don't even add that. So

(10:36):
when you don't have it, there no, there's no respect
in the passing game. And that's why they loaded the
box to make sure they weren't that. The Steelers weren't
able to get that running game going.

Speaker 7 (10:44):
That's why they added section in the box. Okay, okay, okay, okay,
thank you very much. Also, I bet you I counted
at least six holes on TJ WAT then he called
he was hit by somebody and then somebody else just
held him.

Speaker 9 (11:00):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Thing kind of life in the big leagues exactly. That
goes back to James Harrison. You're not gonna get uh,
They're gonna get away with it more than they get called.
That's just the way the league officiates.

Speaker 7 (11:15):
Okay, okay, one more question, you gentlemen. Did you watch
it on TV or where you're I'm not sure you're
at you're in.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
The studio or we're in the studio. We watched it
on TV?

Speaker 7 (11:25):
Okay, cool. So when they showed the overhead views, did
we not look small against that Philhiladelphia team?

Speaker 10 (11:33):
They look like they're.

Speaker 7 (11:34):
Doing what Dallas did back when they had eighth Then
you know what I mean, they just decided to go big.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
I mean that's the that's a when you look at
where they are in the identity of their football team.
They beef up their offensive, defensive line and they are
building from that perspective. So yeah, it definitely looked like
they were a little bit bigger than our gas except Washington, just.

Speaker 7 (11:54):
Like Dallas back in the day, right, see, kind of
the same thing. That's so maybe is this so damn good?

Speaker 4 (12:00):
I think when you look at it on your line, correct,
And I think that's why when you see where Sakwon
Barkley was at him before this game, he was on
pace to break the season season rushing record. Yes, we
held him under wraps here today, but he only had
sixty five yards. But there's still a chance around him
hitting that so that everyone knows that Philadelphia is going
to run the football.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Appreciate your call, Hut. We're gonna move on down to
Dave in Florida. You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 11 (12:29):
Hey, guys, hey listen, I'm probably gonna rant a little
bit this week. This game irked me really bad, really bad.
Just in the beginning of the game. We got Donnelle
Washington driving the guy out of the back of the
end zone into the fans, and we get unsportsman like
conduct penalty on that, and we don't get any points.

(12:52):
We get you know, we get two turnold as we
get allowed the three points off of it. They were
coming in facing eleven to two team, and this is.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
What you do.

Speaker 11 (13:00):
You have to you have to play clean ball, all right,
and then a third and nine, a third and nine
and the Philadelphia's down. I think it was like the
twenty yard line. We got to stop him, and then
he throws out to the flat to gain well and
he splits two guys and he gets the first down,

(13:20):
five minutes possession in the second hand. That's pitiful, that's pitiful.
And then we have Joey Porter on the side get
like giving up on the play. You see you see
the Devonte Smith holding him back with the one arm
and he's kind of slowing up stop and and then
the ball comes out and Devonte Smith gets it instead

(13:41):
of Joey Porter hustle to the ball, played to the whistle.
This team, I don't know, this really irked me today.
This game. I know, George Pickens there's a big loss,
a lot of offensive production. But the front officers had
a chance to address that. I mean, look at Jerry

(14:02):
Judy with the Browns. What did they get? What did
they give up a fifth round pick for him?

Speaker 2 (14:08):
I can't remember off the top of my head, but
if you keep talking, I'll look it up. How's that.

Speaker 11 (14:13):
That's that's okay, that's that's that's good. I mean, Jerry
Judy with the Brown is putting up a lot of
production here. We got Mike Williams. He's supposed to be
a fifty fifty ball and we're not even throwing fifty
fifty balls up to him, you know what I mean.
Just doesn't make sense. This team has a super Bowl
caliber defense and we're not playing like it, at least

(14:34):
not you know, against the caliber team. This was a
test this week, and we sailed. We sailed miserable.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Yeah, I mean I agree with you, you know, from
that perspective. And then when when you look at it
from it when you mentioned tests. The one thing I
said coming into this particular three game stretch, I said,
this Steelers team will either be a contender or a pretender.
Why because the three teams that you are playing, they
are going to be in the playoffs. When you look
at at Philadelphia there fighting for a potential number one seed. There,

(15:02):
you know, Kansas City is in two weeks or really
not even two weeks, but two more games they're going
to be a number one seed in the AFC, so
we got to see how you measure.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Up to them.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
And right now we're zero for one in this particular stretch.
Can it be fixed. It's possible, but there's a challenge
and it's going to be interesting to see how Mike
Tomlin is able to get these guys going, because essentially
you lose tomorrow as you're traveling back or rest day,
and essentially four days later you're going to be in
Baltimore preparing for a game. What does TJ look like
coming into this game?

Speaker 3 (15:33):
What does Jackson?

Speaker 4 (15:33):
We don't know all of these because it's a short week,
and all I say is, if you don't finish a game,
the chances of playing the following week are very slim.
So I'm hoping that my fingers are crossed that we're
going to have TJ. Watt on Saturday against the Raven
for a huge division game.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
By the way, David was a fifth round pick and
a sixth round pick for Judy.

Speaker 11 (15:53):
Okay, so these two round picks.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
If that helps.

Speaker 11 (15:55):
So if you look at the production he's putting out
and easy he receive me, you know he's running all
the routes and everything. And you know, I'm not knocking
Mike Williams, but I mean, well, he'd hardly there. I
mean we got him to you know, if he's supposed
to be a fifty to fifty game, we're not even
drawing it down the field to him. So you know
what was the.

Speaker 12 (16:16):
Sense of that.

Speaker 11 (16:17):
I think they need to get Scroll and Nick involved
a little bit more. That guy's a good football player.
They got to find that get him the ball some
a little bit more.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Well, I'll just say this, Dave Pickens is a huge loss.
Now you still got to play the game, but all
that stuff that irk to you, and they're all good
points that you made. But if you don't get the
personal foul penalty when it's going to be second and
three from the four yard line, If now you Harris
doesn't fumble, uh, if you don't miss the tackle when

(16:48):
gain Well's in the flat and Patrick Queen and Joey
Porter didn't get him on the ground and force them
to kick a field goal, then this thing looks a
whole lot different. I know, you know what happened did
and it would it could should have not worth the
whole lot, But this was one of those games where
I think the Steelers knew they were gonna have to
get inventive to win, and they were gonna have to
play almost a perfect game to win. They were far

(17:11):
from perfect, but mayby through the third quarter it was
a one score game and the Steelers were driving. I
would like to see that the Steelers play a team
of Philadelphi's caliber with pickings correct.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
And I think when you look at to your point driving,
it was a twenty thirteen ball game before Naje fumbled
that ball, So we don't know what happens in that,
but again that turnovers are a big part of it.
But I do want to be clear when you mentioned
Darnell Washington, Darnell was blocking. He was blocking to the whistle.
The closer you get to the end zone than those fans.
He could not hear the whistle. The penalty was not
called on Darnell Washington. It was called on Calvin Austin.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
Well, they called on both of them. They declined to.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
Wall kind of one.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
Okay, they accepted it, So I apologize there. When I
was looking at it, I immediately thought that it was
going to be against Calvin Austin. They ended up making that,
but I thought it was going to be Awestin picked that.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
By the way, I have no idea that and Darnell's.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
It's like, it's not like Calvin Austin.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
We'll take that one. But my point is, in fairness
to Darnall, he's blocking. The closer you get to the fans,
he would not hear the whistle. So in that particular case, yes,
he has to be smarter than that. But again that's
going to be hopefully a coaching point from Tomland there.

Speaker 11 (18:20):
He did drive him into the stand in the hotel.
He was like, he drove them into the fans like
pretty much.

Speaker 13 (18:25):
And you know, hey, I don't.

Speaker 11 (18:26):
I don't fought the guys. Give him Maxim the message, no,
no way, you know we got we gotta cut these penalties.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Oh, I'm with you on that.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
But in fairness to Darnall, coaches always tell you play
play to the whistle, but if you don't hear it,
you keep playing until somebody comes and stopped you.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Unfortunately for him, it was thirty yards down the field.
It's a guy in a third row. Thanks for re call, Dave.
We're up against the break and thanks to doing it right.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show, which presented by doing it
Right Roofing, siding and Remodeling. Pull them up the lifetime

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Welcome back to the postgame show on the Steelers Audio Network.
Mike Pursuda and Charlie backs with you twenty seven thirteen.
The Eagles over the Steelers today in South Philly. Four
one two three three three nine three eight three is
our number. Back to the phones, we go, Linda in
Myrtle Beach. You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 9 (19:30):
Hi, guys. First off, I think with Pickens and Elliott
and Jackson in a whole game, it's a whole different ballgame.
But I think I think three things. These things were
a big problem today. One was not capitalizing on the turnovers.
You can't get two turnovers, especially getting it at the
eleven and get three points. That's that's pitiful.

Speaker 14 (19:51):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (19:51):
Two misstackles, I mean I can't tell you how many times,
especially on third down, we have them stopped, we have
them stopped. Nope, never mind, they get through and get
it first down, keep on driving. And three the fumble
by naj I love Nase, but that was I think
he was looking someone. When they showed the replay, it
looked like he was looking down a field instead of

(20:12):
catching the toss before he started running.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Yeah, I agree with you. The Nase Harris one I
think was to play the game they were. They got
handled in that first half. I mean, they got dominated,
and it was still a game. And now we're midway
through the third quarter and the Steelers are driving and
maybe about to score the touchdown the ties it even
though they're still getting handled. And you know, there's a

(20:38):
certain uh you don't want to have to win games
that way, but sometimes you have to win games that
way when you're at less than one hundred percent with
your lineup, and you know, they hung in there for
a while. I did not have high expectations for this
coming in and mistackles that. That's something that Mike Tomlin
harped on. But I would just say, you know what,

(21:00):
the other guys are pretty good too. That Philadelphia team.
I think the Eagles are a super Bowl team with
better quarterback play than they've been getting from Jalen Hurts
the last month or so. And today he played like
a super Bowl quarterback.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
Yes he did.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
And I think when you look back to your point
on miss tackles, the Steelers work a lot of drills
in open field space to avoid this particular issue. But again,
it was a glaring as the game went on of
those mistackles that I agree wholeheartedly with your point about
the turnovers early in the game, you create two of them,
you have to put the you have to put those
touchdowns on the board. You put fourteen points there. That

(21:35):
changes the whole dynamics of the game. You only get
three points on two turnovers. I thought that was critical
in the first half.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Anything else, Linda, That's all.

Speaker 9 (21:46):
I got today.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
Have a good night.

Speaker 9 (21:47):
Thanks guys, you appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
I'm getting the feeling people are gonna vent tonight.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
Yeah. It's tough.

Speaker 4 (21:55):
I mean it really is because a lot of people
had excuse me, high expectations. You knew coming again that
you can compete in Unfortunately, when you put on this performance,
and really, when you look at the stats, time of possession.
And then when you talk about total yards, that right there,
man is weighing heavily on the Philadelphia side.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
Oh, no question, it's not. You know, you wouldn't draw
it up that way. So this is how we win.
We have the ball for twenty minutes and forty we
let them get four hundred.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
Yards forty minutes a time of possession. Your defense. There's
no way that they're going to withstand that.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
What they were trying to find a way. Yes they were.
And again the pickings thing to me is, I mean,
this has just been on the table since the Dante
Deontay Johnson trade. Right, Okay, who's number two? If you
don't have pickings?

Speaker 4 (22:39):
And they were convinced they were, they were fine with
the receiver group. But then you start hearing the rumblings
of all the trades that potentially happened on who your
number two receiver was going to be. And now we're
out of point where it's coming to a head.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
It kind of is what it is, and they need
that guy, right, they need that guy. Let's go back
to the telephones. Mike in Greenville. You're up next with
Mike and.

Speaker 14 (22:59):
Charlie Hey, what's up, guys, season ticket holder. I seriously
do not think Mike Tomlin has control of these kids. Seriously,
I don't we get the ball on the five yard line,
we do stupid penalties. I can't believe it. I can't
believe it. Mike Camlin is the weakest link on this team.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
I think when I listened to you say that, I
initially thought the same thing. And then just doing the break,
I showed a video to Mike. I mean, we're looking
at the video from the end zone that shows Darnell
Washington driving his guy into the back of the end zone.
The Eagles defender threw two punches at Darnell. Another Eagles
defender come in throws a punch. But yet when Calvin

(23:48):
comes in to protect his guy for some reason, Darnell
gets the penalty and only Calvin gets the penalty. And
that's how we were going from the three yard to
the eight yard eighteen yard line. Unfortunately, you saw the
reaction from Tomlin here because you should have been off
setting in that particular manner. It does the Steelers no
good come tomorrow, whenever they get an apology letter from

(24:09):
New York saying, oh yeah, we should have called a
penalty on the Eagles as well.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
No should have been offsetting. It does them no good
right now.

Speaker 14 (24:16):
They always get the person that retaliates. But the one
thing I want to say to you guys is we
have eighteen no losing seasons, eighteen super Bowls. I love it.
Mike Tomlin is a joke as a coach.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
Goodbye, goodbye to you. Let's keep going. One in South Carolina.
You're up next to Mike and Charlotte.

Speaker 15 (24:40):
Yay, good eving guys.

Speaker 10 (24:41):
How y'all doing?

Speaker 2 (24:42):
How's going?

Speaker 15 (24:44):
Hey, I'm doing good? Oh this guy you tarling? You
just touch biases on it because I was going to
mention that with the dun Hill thing. You got to
remember this guy is like six seven six plus poinals,
so he's going to keep keep going through the vestil blow.
And also, like you said, the guy threw two punches,
so like you said, they should have been outside penalties.
And then also I think it was like like late

(25:07):
in the second quarter or could have been shared. I'm
not mistaken. Why did Tomban decline is sick and in
twenty but it could have been like second at thirty
or first of thirty. I can't remember I think we
should have scept that penalty. And also, like you said,
with the knowledge fumbled that that was the key player
right there because he was driving. We hit him with
the fruit clicker. We didn't, they didn't expect that, and
who knows that we scored on that play. How it's

(25:28):
doing with a turnout.

Speaker 16 (25:29):
So, like you said, I read this loss because as
an AFC I mean NFC team, So I read it
this loss and we just got to pick it out
for next week against the rat Birds. And we already
depends at the Visions spot today with Dolphins moving, so
we end so we could try our on Definity.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Yeah, I mean you're in there, but you're right.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
You're absolutely right as a relations to control of your
own destiny for a home playoff game here. So when
you talk about all the marbles on the line Saturday,
that is it because you have to now because you
have a half game lead against the Ravens now that
can turn around and be even and then ultimately tie
breakers are going to come into the equation. So this
game is huge on Saturday for sure.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Anything else on your mind? One, No, just get over.

Speaker 15 (26:11):
Did Eagles with a better team they play out play
it off and shout out to mcguy.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
Cr that's a that's a healthy editor. The Eagles were
a better team. Thanks for the call. White. Let's let's
be clear about that. The Eagles are the better team.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
Yeah, there's no.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
It doesn't mean the Steelers can't beat them, but the
Eagles are the better team. The Eagles might be better
than all the teams.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
Absolutely, And this is a game here. Typically when you
go on the road, Steelers Nation at some point is
going to make it very difficult for the home team
as a relation to their offense communicating. That was not
the case up at Lincoln Financial. When you turn around
and going up to Philadelphia, ninety percent of that was
Eagles fans and they made it point to make it
very very difficult on the Steelers, and there's a reason
why they haven't won up there in a very long time.

(26:53):
And if you go back one of the teams that
were dominant in two thousand and eight, I was on
that team. We went up to Philadelphia and they made
it very tough. They sat Ben Roethlisberger nine times that
day and we ended up losing that game. And remember
that team won the Super Bowl. So that just lets
you know how difficult it is to go to Philadelphia
and win.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
They also lost in Philadelphia in nineteen seventy nine, that
team won the Super Bowl. You go, it's just one
of those weird things.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
They don't play very often, but every time they do
it is the same result. Let's get one more in
before the break and uh, welcome Tony from Providence. You're
up with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 17 (27:29):
Hey, guys, and when we talked about our last week, guys.
Will be a tough game. So just the way they lost, guys,
but uh, he's went in the playoffs. We have to
take care of business on Saturday. But in my agree,
I mean it was there and Charlie and Mike, but yes,
Philadelphia is going to be a tough hour. On the
watch out Detroit. They are the real deal. Well, just

(27:51):
the way we lost, But I'm a positive thinking. I'm
we're gonna be fine as long as what's okay mister
Pickens gets back in the lineup.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
We went to our three now and that's the mindset
they have to have right now. Yeah, you don't have
a lot of time to dwell on this one. Yeah,
you're you're under They're probably if they're not in route
on the air.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
On the plane.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
Now when you land, you're twenty four hours away from
preparing to practice on Tuesday. So you gotta get over
to bump some bruises. You knew what was on the
other side of this. Now it's the time. It's going
to be more of a net up approach to get
ready for Baltimore this week because they're gonna be bumped.
There's gonna be bump some bruising that come along with it.

Speaker 17 (28:28):
Anything else, Tony, Just like I said, just a tough one,
and I agree they those they've got a tough call
being on the game. Tell you, Mike, I don't know
why they ended up in the end of twenty one
the goal line where we could have been in a
better position. You guys think there was a right call there.

(28:48):
I mean, you're leading the game penalty.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
Not sure what play you're referencing, but we'll try to
look it up. I gotta get to a break before
we do that. But thanks to the call and thanks
to doing it right, Roofing, Siding and Remodeling, Home of
the Lifetime Workmanship Warranty seven to four new roof for
bringing us this hour of the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network
postgame Show show continues right here on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show, which presented by Doing It
Right Roofing, siding and Remodeling, home of the Lifetime Workmanship warranty.

Speaker 18 (29:24):
Pitches to Naji Harris lost the football trying to track
it down, and it's loose in the right flat and
the Eagles have recovered. Well, it looked like a good
pitch and it looked like Nagy just took his eyes
off it. And Darius Slay recovers.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
Today's electrified play of the Game is powered by the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union Number five ib
E W letting up Pittsburgh since nineteen eighty seven. Charlie,
they had just come up with a thirty one yard
flee flicker to start a possession. Midway through the third quarter.
They had run Jalen Warren for six yards. They had

(30:03):
run Najie Harris for seven yards. Stuff was finally starting
to happen on offense. They're only down seven and then
that happened.

Speaker 4 (30:10):
That was tough, right there. We turning point of the game,
and turnovers are a part of it. But you can't
be that guy. It can't happen to you. And obviously
you can see the reaction with Naji. He felt bad
and the rest of the game went on.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Eagles took over at their twenty six with five point
fifty left in the third quarter, drove down and stuck
the ball in the end zone in the first minute
of the fourth quarter, and that was your final score.
That was pretty much your ball game. Four one two, three, three,
three nine three eight three is our number. Let's go
back to the telephones, Tony in Maryland. You're up with

(30:42):
Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 7 (30:45):
Yeah, all know it.

Speaker 10 (30:47):
Uh yeah, that played with Najie Harris. That that was good.
That wasn't the first time he lost the ball. But
I was thinking about with the penalties and uh more
or less, when the fighting goes on, I'm wondering, isn't
there like rests up in the boost there or somebody

(31:07):
to call down there and they could see who started
to fight from the television cast or whatever, and you
know they should just like pick it out and maybe
upstairs the rest or whatever they could go like call
down there and throw get them to throw a flag
to interven with the calls. When uh, you know whoever's

(31:30):
starting to fight, because it seems like it's not just
with the Steeler or the Eagles. It's happened me all
over NFL, like all the play, all the teams are
doing it. There's fights everywhere and people are getting hurt.
I watched one guy after one of the Steelers, I
forget which one he was down.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
When he was.

Speaker 10 (31:50):
Down one of the Eagles that he got up, he
kicked them in the head where he walked away, and
I'm like, well, did they anybody see that, the referees
or anything. You know, it's just getting away with the
stuff some of the people.

Speaker 4 (32:02):
Yeah, those type of plays, you know, they happen. But again,
are all subjective, right, And when you talk about the
Darnell Washington play, you had one of those. The referee
sitting right there when you see the back of the video,
and I just retweeted it out for the people who
have been tweeting at me as I retweeted it, the
referee is steering right at it.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
But yet he did not.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
Call a penalty on the two punches that were thrown
directly in front of him. So maybe they get downgraded
as they go through evaluation process. But either way, it
is an issue. Mike Tomlin didn't want to talk about
it because he didn't want to get that letter from
New York. I'm not getting fine and I'm not going
to talk about it. Let them address it.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Well. This will make you feel good too, if you
want to really dive into the officiating thing. There's a
video on Twitter from Rake the refs app that it
was posted or reposted by Amanda Gatzi of the Johnstown
Tributing Democrat and Jalen Carter hit Connor Hayward in the
head before the ball got punted.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
Yep, that's where I thought they were going to give
us give the ball back, and.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
That would have been Pittsburgh's ball instead of Philadelphia's ball.
Was ten to twenty nine left in the fourth quarter,
and he knew it.

Speaker 4 (33:07):
He walked out on the field and he's egging the
Steelers on, like, come on back on the field.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
I know I made a mistake, come on.

Speaker 4 (33:12):
But yet when we came out of commercial break, it
was their ball on the three yard out of sension.

Speaker 2 (33:17):
Now you're still down two scores at that point, so
maybe this big deal maybe wasn't, But you know, I
think the point on these things, Tony, and I get
that the players want to stick up for each other
and got to defend your teammate, but everybody by now
should know how haphazard the enforcement of these kind of
things are. When the pushing and shoving starts, probably nothing

(33:39):
good's going to happen. Just walk away. Don't let that
happen in a game that decides THEFC North or a
playoff game.

Speaker 4 (33:46):
Just move on, right, And that's unfortunate. And I'm sure Calvin,
if he speaks to the media after the fact, I'm
sure he's going to defend his position on what he
saw and why he entered into the fight zone. And unfortunately,
sometimes the second person is the second person is always
the one that typically gets the penalty, and unfortunately Calvin
was subjected to that anything else, Tony.

Speaker 10 (34:09):
Oh yeah, I think just some of these rests, it's
just like they're taking side. And I think I think
when NFL looks at all these afterwards that they should
suspend these russ they should either fire or suspend them
or you know, take them off the age. Well, something
that should be done because it's happening a lot where

(34:31):
it's scored a you know, with what you got with
a whole lot of different teams. I've been wat too.
I was like, man, that's it's let's scored all a lot.

Speaker 19 (34:40):
It does.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
But they do get they do get graded, and as
closer you get, obviously, the better your evaluation, you get
playoff games, and of course if you're at the top
of the charts, you get rewarded with the Super Bowl.
So there is some discipline that happens with them as well.

Speaker 10 (34:55):
Yeah, and then uh we else should I see it.
I'll see a couple of the issues the dog. But yeah,
that's it all right, Thank you, all.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
Right, thanks for the call, Tony Martin in Baltimore. You're
up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 12 (35:12):
Hi, guys, great to hear from you again. I just
want to say I had major deja vu when Nagee
fumbled that ball. It was like a Super Bowl against
Green Bay when Mendon Hall fumble. I think Russ was cooking,
you know, second quarter, third quarter two. Defense held him

(35:34):
twice to field goals before that, and you know after that,
they just didn't conduncd us to death. So I don't
think it's so bad actually, just just some bad luck.
You know. He wanted to make a big play and
he took his eye off the ball. Yeah, I think
we would have beaten him.

Speaker 7 (35:53):
Russ was cooking a.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Would have had a shot. I mean, it's it's certainly
not the end of the world. It's a game that
you knew going in it was going to be difficult.
You knew you weren't at full strength, which was going
to make it more difficult. And it turned out it
was difficult. But I'll tell you one of the things
I think they're going to come out of this better
for the experience is I don't know if you caught

(36:15):
Mike Tomlin's postgame remarks to the media, and he was
asked why the Steelers had such a hard time running,
and he said, Philadelphia's six man front creates problems. One
guy bunts of block and you know you don't see
that a ton Charlie. And now these young guys that
the Steelers were playing up front, now they've seen it.
They've seen now, they'll know they'll be better prepared for

(36:36):
it if they see it again.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
Absolutely one thing that watch it on film. But now
you're sitting back understanding, Okay, this is a big man
game up front. Now as you've been gain more experience,
you know what to expect, and it was just unfortunate
in that situation because before that, Najie Harris Fumba, they
were in field goal where I rang so minimum you
were going to get three points out of that. But
when you turn the football over not able to convert

(36:57):
and they go down to score a touchdown, that a
separation happened and ultimately was the deciding factor in the game.

Speaker 20 (37:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (37:03):
I mean, not only was Russ cooking, but the running
game started to pick up too.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Yeah, they were shown a little like bad luck.

Speaker 12 (37:11):
Yeah, or anyway, are you guys going to be in Baltimore?
Are you really going to be at Pickles next week?

Speaker 20 (37:16):
Mine?

Speaker 2 (37:17):
No, I don't travel anymore. We'll be doing the show
here as we're doing it tonight. Charlie and I do
it from the stadium or live location when they're home,
and we do it right here in the studio at
Bridgewall when they're on the road.

Speaker 12 (37:33):
Anyway, I'll be at the game waving that towel.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
So good luck for the.

Speaker 12 (37:39):
Baltimore fans don't like to give up their tickets, but
my sister in law gave.

Speaker 20 (37:43):
Me hers so nice.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
I'm good have one for me at pickles. Let's get
another call. Let's go to parks from his porch Parks.
I can't wait every week to find out where you're
calling from.

Speaker 21 (37:55):
It's oh man, well, hey get this. I was driving
down twenty eight. I talked to you guys last week.
I smashed a deer. All health, all good. But now
I'm kind of crashed out down on the canning area
with my parents here until I get a new vehicle.
But I'll get to it here.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
I don't know.

Speaker 22 (38:18):
I don't know that we.

Speaker 21 (38:18):
Can blame the defense all that much time possession was
almost a two to one ratio. They almost had forty
minutes to twenty minutes. It's tough for a defense to
be on the field that long with that type of offense.

Speaker 7 (38:33):
Big things are to me?

Speaker 21 (38:35):
Is I mean we had we turned the ball over
on their forty, didn't get any points. We turned the
ball over on their what was it ten or fifteen?
We got three points. Obviously I called him last week.
But our dependency on pickings, it is going to be
very tough for us to move forward if we don't

(38:55):
have that type of player in the field. And again,
Russia is very limited options and he can't do that
deep ball. He's he And I don't know if our
offensive playing is bland or like, again, do we have
to adjust our offensive plan completely without pickings? I own,

(39:18):
I have your thoughts on that, and I have a
few others after that.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
I would just say this, looking at the third downs tonight,
third and seven, third and eight, third and ten, third
and eighteen, that was the first quarter right then it
was third and eighteen, third and twenty before we worry
about splash plays and touchdowns. I think it would be
a good idea to not be in third. And you're
never going to make this like try to get to

(39:43):
third manageable if you don't have pickings against Saturday.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
When you read those numbers, that let me know they
lost first downs. Yes, that's it.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
So that's where that's where the fix has got to start.

Speaker 18 (39:55):
What else you got again, Hey, I thought we played
very well against the potential MVP Barkley.

Speaker 21 (40:03):
I thought we stood up against him. I didn't let
him have a big game. That was a huge plus.
But again, defensive coverage was getting brightened down. Jan Hurst
had a decent amount of time and uh, the res
aults on that, and I just have a few shoutouts,
and I'm want to ask you guys a question about
something Philly.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
Be quick?

Speaker 21 (40:27):
Well, uh, you guys ever been to past Regina's.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
Pats all the time? What I'm gonna Philadelphia?

Speaker 7 (40:34):
Okay?

Speaker 19 (40:34):
All right?

Speaker 23 (40:34):
I love that.

Speaker 21 (40:36):
Just a good shout out to the Mary's Brandon and
Bryce and Mary, my boy Tayrick Fink and Hey, I
appreciate you guys time, but it's frustrating because Pickens is
we don't want to be dependent on one player, and
it seems like our offense leans to be dependent on
one player. I think our defense showed up, but our
offense has to be productive.

Speaker 11 (40:56):
If you're if.

Speaker 21 (40:57):
You're one guy's out, I'd love to hear your guys thoughts.
I appreciate you guys time.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
Enjoy appreciate the call, Parks and watch out for the deer.
Thanks to doing it right roofing, siding and remodeling home
with the Lifetime Workmanship Warranty Roofing contract to Pittsburgh dot
Com for bringing us this hour. The Pittsburgh Steelers Audio
Network Postgame Show show continues right doing the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (41:19):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show, which presented by doing it right, roofing,
siding and remodeling home up the lifetime workmanship warranty.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
Turns pitches to Warren.

Speaker 2 (41:29):
Now it's gonna be a fleet flicker back to Wilson.

Speaker 18 (41:31):
Look you're gonna throw deep to Calvin Austin, who makes
it tumbling grab inside Eagles territory down at the thirty
nine yard line of thirty one yard strike on the
fleet flicker from Wilson to.

Speaker 24 (41:44):
Austin came out in the second half, you know, and
we had the fleet flicker play, which is a great play.
Great great job by the line, great job by Jalen
getting it to me, and then Calvin made a great
catch and drive and then just unfortunately I didn't go
our way there and we turn it over there and
the red zone the fumble.

Speaker 25 (42:01):
But you know, we you know, the second half, we didn't.
We didn't. We didn't capitalize on our moments.

Speaker 2 (42:09):
That was Russell Wilson after Eagles twenty seven Steels thirteen.
We didn't capitalize on our moments. He was being literal.
They had the ball for moments.

Speaker 7 (42:17):
That was it.

Speaker 2 (42:18):
Not not long and not often. Four one two three, three,
three nine three eight three is our number. AJ in
Colorado Springs. You're up with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 10 (42:30):
Riv Chuck Shoe, what you guys do.

Speaker 26 (42:37):
Hey, I just wanted to tell you guys, I'm grateful
that we competed.

Speaker 7 (42:41):
Man.

Speaker 26 (42:41):
I mean, considering the matchup in twenty twenty two and
you know, losing the seventy five team that you had mentioned,
and in twenty.

Speaker 10 (42:50):
Eighteen losing in Philly two.

Speaker 26 (42:52):
It's crazy, crazy streak going on in Philadelphia. But man,
I'm grateful that we we kept in it. Man, I
mean so different versus you know, just four years ago.
I think the start of the offense looked like they
started kind of similar to how they always have been
all season, but you know.

Speaker 10 (43:13):
Without having Larry and.

Speaker 26 (43:16):
Elliott and GP, you know, with a young, old line.
I don't know, I'm encouraged to be honest. I mean
it's a top five team. But I guess my question
for you guys would be, kind of what growth do
you need to see from the team to feel like
we're turning the corner to kind of go from one
of those like below top five teams to a top

(43:39):
five team. And there's it offensive line play? Is it
kind of anything specific? Obviously being shorthanded that wide receiver
is difficult. But I would be curious to hear your
perspective on that.

Speaker 4 (43:52):
Well, I think for me, excuse me, for me, I
want to see him went on the road because this
team is going to have to go on the road
to accomplish a goal that they want to accomplish with
that Lombardi Trophy. Yes, if they win the division, that's fine,
but at some point you're gonna have to go to Buffalo,
You're gonna have to go to Kansas City. So what
does this week he look like to Baltimore? Okay, I
want to see that game played and I want to

(44:13):
see them ultimately win against Kansas City. But they still
have to prove to me that they're able to dominate
in that particular manner. And they have one more opportunity
because the final two games are home for this Steelers team.
So did the jury still out for me?

Speaker 2 (44:29):
For me, it would be just fine ways to make
yourself less, George Pickings dependent, I thought, you know, we
came out of the break with that flee flicker to
Calvin Austin that was really well designed. They got one
of their fastest receiver against the linebacker one on one
and they got a big play out of it. If
Justin Fields had a big play. Now he suffering an

(44:50):
abdominal injury. No worry about his status from Mike Tomalin.
But I still think the Fields package has to be
resorted to, particularly on nights such a tonight, when it's
just not happening for you by conventional means. You know, Charlie,
sometimes you got to bring in that knuckleball picture and
confuse the hell out of him. If you can't throw
it past them.

Speaker 4 (45:09):
The package, the package works, and this is what this
is what I cautioned on a few weeks ago when
everybody started talking about it, and it started in Washington
when he came in the game and closed it. As
we get to this point of the season, as the
weather changes and it's thirty degrees when you're sitting on
there and you don't know when you're going in that
game all of a sudden get in there and play,
and all of a sudden he goes and run one

(45:29):
play and he has an abdominal injury.

Speaker 3 (45:32):
Don't know if it did.

Speaker 4 (45:33):
Sure that that's tough to do. It's easier said than
done because we're talking about it. But I've been in that.
I've been in that situation where this weather changes. That's
why there's different codes that you have with your quarterback.
If something happens, give me time to warm up. And
in this particular case, he has to go on the
field and don't know when he's going in. That's a
tough situation for Justin Fields and well Faullis.

Speaker 26 (45:54):
I'm extremely excited to see what Zack Brazier is going
to do for us. From a WU alum, and he
was just an absolute stud for four years. He's a wrestler,
he's got that nasty mentality. And then with McCormick too,
I'm just really excited about what the offensive line is
gonna do. And you know those are those are positions
that it takes a long time in the draft or

(46:16):
a place, and you know we're gonna have to evaluate
what wide receiver obviously, and then quarterback here in the future.
But just a just a shout out to my Zords
guys that I always enjoyed talking with them during the
during the game. So yeah, appreciate your coverage and I'll
look forward to hearing you guys in the future.

Speaker 3 (46:37):
I appreciate it. And Zach Frazier. He's a ten year guy.
He's solid. He's gonna be here for a long time.

Speaker 2 (46:43):
He's gonna be like those guys on the Philly side
have been around forever, and I've been doing it at
a high level for a long long time. Kevin and Hawaii,
you're up next with Mike and Charlie. Thanks for hanging
in there, Kevin.

Speaker 23 (46:56):
Yeah, absolutely, Hey Charlie, thanks for all the moments back
in the day. So one thing that's starting to drive
me nuts is we become the most i don't want
to say uneducated, but one e fan base in the
NFL in the last ten twelve years because of our
frustration with not being successful. Overall, every single play is

(47:20):
the officials. It's always the zebra's fault. Washington, he had
him maybe two yards deep in the end zone on
the block. When the whistle blew, he drove another twelve
yards into a concrete barrier and then up into his head.
We deserved the penalty. I mean, every single time, it's
always the officials fault. We got dominated in every single

(47:42):
category by what is a much simply put superior team
that was without their running back and one of their
top offensive Linemans for over a quarter and then the
running back came back hobbled in the second half. We
didn't were not in the same class as the Eagles,
the Bills, and a lot of other teams.

Speaker 10 (48:00):
That's just the fact.

Speaker 23 (48:01):
And so we finally ran up against a team that, yeah,
we won the turnover battle, but they actually have enough
of the talent and they're rounded enough and coach twel
enough that they can come overcome a couple early turnovers.
It's just it's gotten so old, the amount of whining
that comes out of Steeler Nation. And I've been watching
since the seventies, so I've seen it all, from Noel
putting it together, Coward putting it together the second time

(48:24):
after Noel missed or Marino because of bad information, and
then Cord getting ripped off of at least two Super
Bowls because Belichie and so I've been there for all
of it, and I cannot believe how wani our fan
base has become. It's always the officials fault.

Speaker 2 (48:40):
Always.

Speaker 23 (48:40):
It's never the Steelers, it's never Tomlin, It's never we
made bad plays, we were undisciplined. It's always the officials fault.

Speaker 3 (48:49):
Well, and I get it.

Speaker 4 (48:51):
I know both sides of it, and it's just one
of those things where you get this to this point
of the season and you start getting down and separating
yourself as a team or Almon. There's only one goal
around here, and that's the hoisted limbod at Barti Trophy,
and if you don't do it, those teams are forgotten
around here. They don't celebrate division winners. They only celebrate
Super Bowl winners, so that when players know that coming

(49:13):
in here, trust me, they're just as disappointed as the
fans are when that goal is not accomplished.

Speaker 23 (49:19):
I don't think they're not disappointed.

Speaker 11 (49:20):
Charal.

Speaker 23 (49:20):
I'm not even talking about the players. I'm talking about
the fan base. I'm just tired of Steeler Nation because
we've gotten a massive reputation. And I've been in military
thirty some years. I just retired, so I've lived everywhere
where in the world. I've seen all the fan bases
and all the opposing cities in the world, and we've
gotten a massive reputation the last five ten years about
being the biggest cry baby fan base in the NFL.

(49:44):
And I got to tell you, as a fifty four
year long Stealer fan, I agree with the other fans.
It's always the official's fault, it's never our fault, and
it's getting old.

Speaker 21 (49:54):
We need to go out, hit somebody.

Speaker 23 (49:55):
In the mouth and win a football game by being
the dominant team, and we haven't been that ten fifteen years.

Speaker 27 (50:01):
That's just the backs.

Speaker 2 (50:02):
Kevin appreciate the call. We are up against the break
thanks to doing it right. Roofing, siding and remodeling home
in the lifetime Workmanship Warranty seven two four new roof
for bringing us this hour the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network
postgame Show. The show continues on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show was presented by Caldiente Pizza
and Drafthouse the Pizza Up Champions.

Speaker 19 (50:26):
I think we didn't do a good job of tackling,
especially on the edge. You know, we can get them
in third and long, and we didn't take advantage of that.
You know, we talked about plastering. I thought a couple
of times they were able to you know, sustained drives
by QB mobility. But you know, we had to do

(50:47):
a better job of finishing those plays on the defensive
side of the ball, which we did.

Speaker 2 (50:53):
Today's look aheadlines are brought to you by Bette Rivers
Online Casino and sportsbook. It's a whole new game, Gamma
problem Call one eight hundred gambler. Two games Tomorrow night,
Chicago at Minnesota, the Vikings a seven point favorite. Your
total there is forty four. And Atlanta at the Las
Vegas Raiders. Atlanta a five and a half point favorite,

(51:14):
and the total there forty four and a half. Charlie.
The early line next Saturday in Baltimore Ravens minus six
and a half.

Speaker 3 (51:21):
Oh wow, wow.

Speaker 4 (51:23):
I mean they're probably expecting some people to be out
to be that high.

Speaker 2 (51:28):
Or it might just be that the people that said
these things are as overly impressed as with the Ravens
as I think a lot of people are. And get
ready for that to continue this week. Oh they beat
up on the Giants. Wow, I'm so impressed.

Speaker 4 (51:43):
And when we get to this game, you know it's
always going to be a close game. Both rosters are
built the same, so I'm it's classic rivalry game.

Speaker 2 (51:53):
Back to the phones we go, Brad in Ohio. You're
on with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
How you guys doing doing well?

Speaker 17 (52:03):
Anyways?

Speaker 27 (52:04):
Want to do a shout out.

Speaker 28 (52:05):
My daughter is in the Air Force, and my son
in law he's in Korea right now. He's also having
the airport to a shout.

Speaker 11 (52:14):
Out to cold.

Speaker 2 (52:17):
Okay, you got anything about the game?

Speaker 28 (52:20):
Oh man?

Speaker 10 (52:21):
You know what.

Speaker 28 (52:22):
I listen to the Morning show every day, every single day.
I'm from Ohio, but I drive to Pittsburgh. I've worked
at the airport building a new terminal. Now drive down
now I'm working at Court Factory.

Speaker 21 (52:37):
I work down there.

Speaker 27 (52:39):
That's whatever.

Speaker 28 (52:39):
I went back to the airport. I love the city
of Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (52:42):
I love it.

Speaker 28 (52:42):
I love the Steelers. But today the Morning Show already
said that's gonna be a tough game.

Speaker 21 (52:50):
Charlie, what do you think.

Speaker 4 (52:52):
I thought it was going to be the exact same way.
And you know, unfortunately I didn't have him winning this
game because of the lack of passing in this particular
ball game, and that showed. And when you only had
pass four one hundred and twenty eight yards, that's not
going to win. And they have to figure out a
way somebody stepping up in that receiver group that's going
to put fear in defense to make them fall.

Speaker 3 (53:11):
Back a little bit.

Speaker 4 (53:12):
Right now, everybody's playing right in front of your face,
and it's going to be very tough to win in
that particular manner when no big plays don't happen.

Speaker 28 (53:20):
I hear you, but I didn't see no steel Nation
in phillyd There's no terrible talels called the Baggins. That
was it Philadelphia walk all we talked about or Nation.
I told my steps on and come out. I said,
this is this is this is Pennsylvania gets Pennsylvania.

Speaker 4 (53:41):
Absolutely and I guess it. But guess what It's going
to be exact same way in Baltimore. Steelers Nation are
not going to be able to get those tickets. So
it's gonna be a very tough ticket.

Speaker 28 (53:49):
Oh yeah, wife, man, we have some games coming up,
and now we've got Christmas with.

Speaker 4 (53:57):
Kansas City, and you would like, yeah, you would like
to think that the Chiefs fans won't be here because
of there. But there's some people. There's a there's a
holiday called Christmas. There's a bunch of money that's going
to be spending. The price is right.

Speaker 3 (54:12):
Some thing's happen.

Speaker 2 (54:13):
That they do. Thanks, thanks for the call, Brad. I'm
gonna move along with appreciate your phone call. Alex in Pittsburgh.
You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 29 (54:24):
Hey, how you guys doing tonight?

Speaker 2 (54:25):
Doing well? How you doing tonight?

Speaker 29 (54:28):
I'm not too bad.

Speaker 11 (54:29):
I'm just calling in.

Speaker 29 (54:30):
Tough loss today, kind of as expected as you guys
have mentioned. But how concerning of the is this loss
to you guys? I know it's not a you know,
not an AFC game, doesn't really matter too much for
playoff implications, But the injuries seem like they're starting to
pile up. And we're going into a good Baltimore team
that seems like the offense is starting to roll again
with Lamar throwing for you know, all those touchdowns today.

(54:52):
So how does this loss and these injuries pile up
really affect us moving forward here down the stretch?

Speaker 4 (54:58):
I think for me, I look at you're playing a
tough team Philadelphia. They stealing, uh, they're stealing in contention
for the number one seed there. But when you look
on the other side in Baltimore, they did play the Giants,
let's be honest right there, So yes they're expected to
do that. Now you're gonna have to clash in the division,
and everybody knows who was at stake so I'm expecting
a very top ball game this weekend.

Speaker 29 (55:21):
And then, have we heard any news on the TJ.

Speaker 21 (55:24):
Watt injury?

Speaker 29 (55:25):
Any anything coming out on.

Speaker 2 (55:26):
That X ray negative? Mike Tomlins said it appeared to
be of the lower variety and so it's not the
dreaded high ankle spring. TJ. Watt, when speaking with the
Porters after the game in Philly, was unsure if he'd
be able to play or not. I guess it's gonna
be another one of those weeks, Charlie.

Speaker 4 (55:42):
It's gonna be tough only because yes, there's minimal pain
that he has right now, but what does it look
like when he wakes up tomorrow morning, and what is
gonna look like Tuesday when they start preparing to practice.

Speaker 3 (55:53):
He's one of.

Speaker 4 (55:53):
Those guys when Tomlin says, I'll leave the light on
for you all the way till game time. So I
don't think this is decision is going to be made
until the inactive list comes out two hours before the
game on Saturday.

Speaker 29 (56:07):
Gotcha, Well, I appreciate you guys tonight. I hope you
have a good night, and let's hope we can finish
out strong down here the stretch.

Speaker 2 (56:13):
Thanks for the call Alex tim in Virginia. You're up
next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 13 (56:18):
Mike, Charlie, Hey, I'm I'm going to address the guy
to call a couple calls to go about the Steeler
Nations being a bunch of whiners and criers. I beg
to differ with that because I'm one of the objective ones,
and I hear a lot of objective callers calling in
and saying, Hey, we were stupid to do that. Hey,

(56:38):
that was a stupid penalty. Hey, you gotta be more disciplined.
You got to play a clean game. So while there
are quite a few of us that do go out
there and you know, and and and you know want
and possibly wind or blame it on the officials or
you know, the circumstances as a whole, I don't see

(56:59):
a stield in the nation is as being a bunch
of whiners and criers. So I just got to get
that off my chest. But anyhow, Uh, they battled there
today and I heard a couple of callers and I
think I even heard you guys say too, that's probably
one of the more stiffest, uh, you know, bits of
competition that's happened in Philadelphia since I was in kindergarten

(57:22):
and they last won, So you know that team, they
battled and they were playing with one arm tied behind
their back for most of the time, without the players
in there that they needed to to compete. And I
think they can compete with Philadelphia, but they have to
play a clean game, not to have everybody there. The
thing I want to address is this, Okay, wat you

(57:44):
know has a bummed ankle. Now you're without Pickings, You're
without Ogan Jovie, You're without a couple of guys in
the secondary. This game is a quick turnaround on Saturday.
I don't know if I played TJ and I don't
know if I'm or some Pickings back in the lineup.
Either I'm getting them ready for Christmas Day and then

(58:05):
I'm getting them ready for the Bengals, because those are
the two they're gonna get you the division.

Speaker 11 (58:10):
What do you guys think.

Speaker 2 (58:11):
Well, if they beat the Ravens Saturday, the division thing's over.
So I might look at it a different way. I
might play guys Saturday and then give everybody the rest
of the season off. Exaggerating a little bit, obviously, but
my point that I'm trying to make is The priority
for me is Baltimore, Kansas City, and Cincinnati. I don't
care so much about particularly if they beat Baltimore, it'd

(58:34):
be great to have as highest seat as possible. But
once I would lock up the division, I know I
got a home game. Now. I want a healthy team
playing in that home game.

Speaker 4 (58:42):
Correct Now, I think when you look at just playoff season,
they're pretty much locked in on where you're at in
that third seed. So this game matters you just no
matter whether it's going to be home or it's going
to be on the road in Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (58:53):
Big game this weekend.

Speaker 2 (58:54):
Tien, appreciate the call. We're up against the break, gotta run.
Thanks to Kelly and Tap Pizza and draft House for
bringing us. It's this hour. Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network Post
game Show, Calliente Pizza and draft House, The Pizza of Champions.
The postgame show continues right here on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (59:10):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show was presented by Caliente Pizza
and Drafthouse, The Pizza of Champions.

Speaker 11 (59:17):
We want to win this division.

Speaker 24 (59:18):
That's our goal, you know, is to It's our first goal,
you know, is to win the division. We have a
lot of respect for this division and the teams, coaches
and the players in this division, and uh, you know,
at the same time.

Speaker 25 (59:30):
We got to go take it. We gotta go take it.

Speaker 24 (59:33):
We gotta go find a way on the road in Baltimore,
which we know it's going to be a great football game,
you know. And I think the biggest thing is it's
just we got to do whatever it takes to win.

Speaker 2 (59:47):
That was ros Sol Wilson after the Steelers twenty seven
to thirteen loss in Philadelphia. Today, four one, two, three, three, nine,
three eight three is our number. Mike Pursuda and Charlie
Batch sifting through through the wreckage with you tonight. Let's
go back to the telephones and welcome Randy in Southern California.

Speaker 30 (01:00:06):
Hello Randy, gentlemen, how are you tonight?

Speaker 3 (01:00:11):
Doing well?

Speaker 31 (01:00:14):
Hey, what happens if we do lose?

Speaker 7 (01:00:18):
Next to you?

Speaker 31 (01:00:19):
I'm not saying that, I'm thinking that's gonna happen.

Speaker 7 (01:00:22):
But have we gone down.

Speaker 31 (01:00:23):
The playoff pitcher to see do we have the tiebreakerd
with Baltimore? How's that gonna play out?

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Well, they have it now because they have the head
to head meeting. But if they lose, then they don't
have the head to head right, so then.

Speaker 7 (01:00:36):
It's right exactly, so what happens from there, But.

Speaker 4 (01:00:39):
I think a lot of it is going to depend
on the final two games. Christmas Day, we have the Chiefs,
they have the Texans. I'm not sure who they finish
with during their final game, but there's a lot of
stake in that particular manner. But I think when you
look at to say, what is that stake is the
difference between the first round playoff game being in Pittsburgh
or you're on the road.

Speaker 3 (01:00:59):
So that's the big deal Baltimore has.

Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
Baltimore has games at Texas on Christmas and then hosts Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
So in Cleveland, check.

Speaker 22 (01:01:13):
Texas game won't be easy for them, but the Cleveland
game probably will be.

Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
Yeah, and that right now, the Ravens are four and
one in the division. The Steelers are three and one.
Excuse me, the Ravens are two and two. The Steelers
are three and one. But if the Steelers lose to
the Ravens, then they're three and two and the Ravens
are three and two. So yeah, this this could go
down several rabbit holes here. The easy, easy way to

(01:01:38):
do it is just go down there and beat them
Saturday and get out, get out the T shirts.

Speaker 31 (01:01:44):
Of course, of course. But yeah, I had already looked
ahead and saw that we're tied with them on so
many levels. If we lose that game, that how about
AFC records?

Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
How about AFC records? Glad you asked. Baltimore as we
speak is five and four, Pittsburgh's seven and two, So
it looks like you have an edge there.

Speaker 31 (01:02:03):
If you're the Steerings, that could be it, gentlemen, that
could be it, as long as we don't lose those
last two.

Speaker 7 (01:02:11):
And I don't see that happening.

Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
And that is the uh. That is the fourth tiebreaker,
a record within the conference that goes behind winning percentage
in common games.

Speaker 4 (01:02:22):
And you don't have to worry about all of those
other tab breakers if you win in Baltimore. That's the
focus right now.

Speaker 32 (01:02:29):
I hear you, I hear you.

Speaker 31 (01:02:30):
All right, gentlemen, thank you for all you do.

Speaker 7 (01:02:32):
We appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
Oh appreciate the call. Uh, let's keep the phone calls
coming in Spencer in Glenn Campbell.

Speaker 33 (01:02:42):
Thany, guys, I just wanted to make a comment about
coach Tomlin.

Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
I know before you do that, Blair is Glenn Campbell.

Speaker 33 (01:02:51):
I am about sixty miles east of Pittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
And that's the name of the town, Glenn Campbell.

Speaker 33 (01:02:58):
Yeah, oh wow, yep, Glenn Campbell for in Indiana County,
just outside of Have you ever heard of Punks of
Tawny Home on the Groundhog?

Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
Yep, yep.

Speaker 33 (01:03:09):
So that's where we're at. And so one of the
things I want to talk about with coach Tom I know,
I know he gets a lot.

Speaker 11 (01:03:15):
Of a flack.

Speaker 33 (01:03:16):
And my brother in law is from Chicago, a long
time Chicago Bears fan, and he he said the other
day that he's never heard a group of people complain
about winning so much as we have. And you know
he's a Bears fan. So they haven't had a winning
season since with like eighty five or something, so's it's
been a while for those guys. But when you look

(01:03:36):
at Tomlin, you know that that consistency of winning comes
from some additional issues, like consistently drafting lower on the
draft boards. So we could make an argument that that
consistency over the years has come with picking talent later
in the draft year after year after year from his

(01:03:57):
two decades, which I think he's doing a good job.
I also think that he I like how he doesn't
call place, he manages the game as and I think
that's what you know, the head coach should be doing.
That's why you have guys that can focus. I know
there are other head coaches that that do that and
do it very well, But I personally like how Tolman

(01:04:19):
is always in I think he's always in control of
the game and wherever's going on. And then at one point,
maybe Charlie, you can answer this obviously as a player,
at what point do we hold players responsible for just
not performing? These are all world class athletes. There's a
certain level of talent. There's obviously a certain level of skill,

(01:04:39):
and we when we use the word coach, it's it's
synonymous with youth all the way to pros. These guys
were you know, how how much are they coaching them
versus preparing for schemes and getting them ready to execute.
So that's that's the question that I that I I
kind of have and would be interested in your guys'
thoughts on that.

Speaker 4 (01:04:58):
Yeah, I think I think when you look, you know,
when you talk about preparing game plans and all of that,
and having a team ready. That's a coach of responsibility.
But ultimately the players are the ones who are out
there playing. And I've said many times over the years,
I said, on good teams, coaches hold players accountable, but
on great teams, players hold players accountable. And this is
the point of season right now that the players have

(01:05:18):
to step up understanding what the goal is at hand,
in knowing how to prepare accordingly. That's why Russell Wilson
continues to talk about, hey, it's not a twenty game season,
it's a twenty four game season, because he's talking about
finishing the season in the super Bowl and winning that thing.
So when you have that type of mindset, now it's
up to everybody else to build around it. Challenge is

(01:05:39):
there hasn't been a lot of success from the players
who have been here, yes other teams, and now you
incorporate that into this environment. Now they have to get
over that hump because the super Bowl hasn't been won
in a long time around here. Yes, we're itching to that.
Former players want these young generation to now have that
type of success that we have that we had at
that particular moment. So we're rooting for those guys. That's

(01:06:01):
why I all remind them to say division winners are great,
but they don't celebrate those. They don't bring you back
for a reunion to celebrate the division winner. You're only celebrated,
braided for hoisting that Lombardi Trophy and bringing a super
Bowl victory here. That's why they always talk about number
seven because those are the teams that are remembered.

Speaker 33 (01:06:21):
God, thank you. What about your thoughts on head coaches
who also called plays? Do you think that helps the team,
hurts a team or doesn't really matter?

Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
It depends how good at it they are.

Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
Yeah, I've had it, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
I head in Detroit obviously, you know you see kind
of where they one never won a super Bowl there.
But when you bring it here, coach cowerd he never
really did it. He had his coordinators. And when you
hire people to do their job, you don't want to
micro manage everything. You want them to do their job accordingly.
And cower was the same way. Tomland the same way.
He believes in the people that he's hires and he
allows them to do their job.

Speaker 2 (01:06:53):
But they're also correct me if I'm wrong, Charlie. They're
doing the job the way that he and they have
discussed it with Tomlin in the meetings, and oh, there's
a collective plan. You know, he might not be run
to draw on second down, but he might be Hey,
established the run.

Speaker 4 (01:07:10):
Oh oh from a micro standpoint, yes, here's the vision,
here's what I thought process as what I want to attack.
And then your coaches they prepared a game plan accordingly,
so those things happen. I'm just saying when you get
to the game. He's not micromanager. He's not telling a
coach or a play caller to say, you're running on
his down. I want this play because I liked that

(01:07:31):
play when I was preparing the game plan. No, he
allows them to do their job. And I've I've witnessed
many conversations when coordinators would go up to Tomlin and say, hey,
what are you thinking on his play? And he said, Hey,
I hired you to do your freaking job, call to play.

Speaker 2 (01:07:44):
Make it happen.

Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
So that's how much he believes in his coaches.

Speaker 33 (01:07:49):
Anything else spread Thanks, no, thank you, guys, I have
merry Christmas.

Speaker 2 (01:07:53):
Appreciate it. Let's get one more in before the break.
Jeff in Ohio. You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 32 (01:08:01):
Good evening, gentlemen. Obviously tough night. A couple of things
I actually came away at. You know, we're disappointed about
the game and the outcome, but a little bit positive.
I really think more healthy we could get ten with
anybody in he had AFC. You know obviously he pick
is and what healthy and the other guys in the secondary.

(01:08:21):
It just would have been really interesting to see if
Nase had held on to the ball and we could
have got that score. What would have happened and what
would have transpired. You guys hit on two of my points. One, Mike,
you did exactly what I said about Baltimore. You play
your guys, that gonna win if you win, and you
can worry about resting guys for the next couple of weeks.
So I agree with you one hundred percent on that.

(01:08:42):
And I think you guys addressed the one earlier. Uh
Carter hit Hayward in the head before the pint, and
I thought, you know that that should have been a
call and we should add the ball. But you know,
it's water under the bridge. But my question for you was,
I said this, I think it was last week or
the week before. I still I think you don't throw
the ball up on first down. In the early in

(01:09:02):
the game, it was very predictable, and it seemed like
when we did start throwing on first down, we ran
the ball better, and we put together a couple of
nights drives. And I know I'm beating a dead horse,
but it just seems like we get so predictable in
the first second down carries that I think and I'm
not saying you gotta throw the thirty yards downfield, but
do we need to mix in more intermediate short routes

(01:09:25):
on first down just to open up the running game?
I guess is my point.

Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
Jeff, Well, we're up against the break, but we'll answer
it before we get there here. I just think you
might have heard already tonight. I talked about third and
seven third and eight third and ten third and eighteen
third and eighteen third and twenty. I'm for anything that
doesn't get you in those situations, right. I don't look
at it like, well, you gotta start throwing over the middlefield,

(01:09:50):
or you got to start throwing sideways. You got to
do stuff different to not have all that, because you
saw tonight what that gets you.

Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
Absolutely, and I'm with you right, I do.

Speaker 4 (01:09:58):
I feel like they compete a but this time of
the year, there's two things that need to happen. One,
you gotta get hot at the right time. You have
to have luck with injuries. Yep, you do that, then
you make that playoff push. And right now, in this
three game stretch, injuries are starting to kind of bite
us a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:10:13):
Thanks to Kelly Inta Pizza and Draft House for bringing
us this hour the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network Postgame Show,
Callyenta Pizza and draft House, The Pizza of Champions. The
show continues right here on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show. It was presented by Caliente
Pizza and Drafthouse, the Pizza of Champions.

Speaker 2 (01:10:35):
Today's Keys to the Game it brought to you by
South Hill's Cheap, Pittsburgh's home for all things Cheap. I'm
gonna keep it simple with the keys tonight, Charlie the
key to the game. When you're playing Philly in Philly
without some of your best weapons, you gotta play clean.
You can't make it harder on yourself than it already is.
And the Steelers were unable to do that tonight and

(01:10:56):
that was one of the big reasons why they're coming
home having lost the state championship to the Eagles.

Speaker 4 (01:11:01):
Right and for me, capitalizing on the turnovers you get
too early on you gotta put seven points on the board.
They could they have fourteen points. I think that changes
that what happens throughout the course of the game.

Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
Four one, two, three, three, three nine three eight three
is our number. John in Ohio, you're up next with
Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 27 (01:11:22):
Hey, guys, I'll tell you what. When I woke up
this morning, I told my girlfriend and my buddy in
Pisturgh Corodo exactly what was gonna happen.

Speaker 6 (01:11:31):
And I knew when Mike Tomlin looked at that rest
who was trying to explain to him what Roger Goodell
and New York was telling his ear on that uh
uh when nauje averrin out of bounds and then they
called the penalties and he said, get the foay from me.
Right there, that's Mike Collins saying, just get to that

(01:11:52):
foay for me. I know this is It's not that
it's rased. It's a the league wants certain.

Speaker 27 (01:11:58):
Things to happen. It's like the w it leads to
WWE and missed that. They dictate brings a certain way. Dude,
Not only do they not call one penalty on the
Eagles on that, they called two on Pittsburgh and zero
on that. That's a dude, we're scoring right there, so

(01:12:19):
now you're taking everything away. That's why Tom looked at
him and just said, get to get the f away
from me. And if you look at it, they showed
it twice and once in close up. It just like,
get away from me. I know what you guys are doing.
So here's what happens every fewer days. What about the
Cleveland game, We should have won that one. When Winston
threw the ball, it should have been an intentional grounding

(01:12:40):
fifteen yard back. They said they hit the linemen, so
it's just a five yard penalty. No, there was nobody around.
It's just as the league is trying to dictate the
way things go. They wanted to come down to next
week against Baltimore. They want that to come down where
they're both right there and the Steelers don't have that
game and a half two games lead. It's it's on

(01:13:03):
the lead. I don't know what the Rooneys did a
right let me ask you, this, is it paranoid that
al Davis was against the league? Was that paranoid or
was he right? And ended up looking like he was
actually right. The league had trumping against Pittsburgh with the
Rooneyes because they know Steeler Nation is bigger than the NFL.

(01:13:25):
Steeler Nation is bigger than the NFL, and NFL doesn't
like that. They know that if they screw the Steelers,
the fans will still be there. But if they screwed Remi,
their fans are gonna flock out. Get on here with
this crap man. This is a Oh. If you can't
see that, you're being paid off.

Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
Too, Okay, Well, I don't think it's rigged, John, and
I'm not being paid off. The officiating is what it is.
You can see the video. They missed a couple of
punches on Seattle. They missed the head slapped to Connor
Heyward before the put not after. But I don't think

(01:14:04):
it's rigged. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:14:06):
I don't think it's rigged either. And I think when
you heard Tom explaining this post game, the explanation from
the rest was not satisfactory to him. And when you
look at the pool reports that come out they're trying
to state their position, but yet watching the video it
says otherwise. So expect an apology to come in from
New York. But that does no good after the game
has already played.

Speaker 27 (01:14:27):
Did he not get splashed in the head before the punt?

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
He did? He did?

Speaker 27 (01:14:31):
Yo, that changed the whole game. Now we got the ball.
Now they took the ball. Not only okay, b the
block Stiel goal he got. He hit the guard. The
guard hit him after a second. You're allowed to hit
the center after a second.

Speaker 11 (01:14:47):
The long snapper.

Speaker 12 (01:14:48):
That's what happened.

Speaker 27 (01:14:49):
He hit the guard, guard pushed him in. Now we
only got a steel goal, right, so it's the same. No,
it's not three more minustring off the clock. Now Stewarts
have three more minutes end of the game. Because it's
a systematic I'm telling you they're not rigging it, but
they're they're trying to just manipulate the way it goes.
I'm curious to see what happened with Detroit and Botblow today.

(01:15:12):
I know, look at that game close because you know
they want Buffalo to be up there and they can
push the short down with Minnesota. I'm telling you this,
Cadel is a piece of crape. She's always been a
piece of cracks. The Roumis. I don't know what they
have against them, but this is absolute horse.

Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
You know what, John, Thanks thanks for the phone call.
I don't know what you say.

Speaker 4 (01:15:38):
At they're not much want to say. We would both agree.
We don't think it's really so.

Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
I don't think they're necessarily good or officiating correct.

Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
I mean it's safe to say that this crew won't
be refinue Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
Let's get one more in before the next break. Sy
in Pittsburgh, what's up? I pronounce your name correctly? First
of all, yes, he did.

Speaker 34 (01:15:59):
Hi, Charlie and Mike.

Speaker 33 (01:16:00):
How are you guys doing doing well?

Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
How are you doing?

Speaker 10 (01:16:04):
I'm good?

Speaker 34 (01:16:04):
Probably better when the Steelers win. But yeah, so pretty
pretty rough game to watch, although it was nice to see,
uh the offense do a little bit of something with
that touchdown to Friar Moose and then that flee flicker
is really cool as well, to get a spark in there.
But what I'm wondering is why, with you know, Pickens sidelines,

(01:16:25):
we aren't using Mike Williams more we you know, we
got him from the Defts. He's a better a lot
of experience and only a few targets so far in
the games that we've had him. And I saw him
on the sideline a lot today and I feel like,
you know, that that comes through between Pickens and Russ
so far that's developed this season. Like obviously that's going

(01:16:46):
to be missed with Pickens on the sideline, but I
feel like having that, you know, veteran experience on on
the field would benefit in some way. So I'm pretty
confused why we aren't using him more.

Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
I think he's got to start getting open a little more.
Although today might be a bad way to judge it
because they didn't have anybody involved enough today they had
the ball for twenty minutes. But I don't think they're not,
you know, trying to throw to him. I think he's
got to do his part. And you know, right now,
he's a down the sideline guy and that's what he
was at the height of his career before his injury.

(01:17:19):
He was really good at that. But he's got to
bring a little bit more to the table and get
open a little more at the Russell Wilson has shown
us he'll throw to anybody right, get out, get open
would be my advice to Micha Williams. But God, thank
you appreciate it. Uh four one two three, three, three
nine three eight three is our number field in the eree.

(01:17:41):
You're up next with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 22 (01:17:43):
Hey, guys, how you doing. We'll bring off win. But
he can't with them all. But I will say this,
I ha got two calls before. Yeah, I can understand
his frustration in my opinion, anything else, Why did my
tom go for all four and said with eleven twenty
five to go in the fourth quarter, that's my opinion.

(01:18:04):
I mean, when you got to lose and maybething else,
you had a shot that you had your your Kvados
who's who he's not? He's not George Pickers, but he's
still okay everything else and uh and and and plus
when Naja Harris uh full of the football. I noticed
he did not go to that dog pile right away.

(01:18:25):
That did not sit well with me at all. That's
why I see it.

Speaker 3 (01:18:28):
Of course, are you talking about nag On not getting
to the pile.

Speaker 22 (01:18:35):
He fell with here on the extreme it could happen that.

Speaker 8 (01:18:38):
That, don't get me wrong.

Speaker 22 (01:18:39):
I mean I've been there before. I played I played
the game and and he did he he did what
what it was like, I say, about a good three
or four inches from he did not go for that
pile quick enough, and he was he was the closest.
And everything else, and they but despite that, they started
a chance to win the game. Everything else but the bus.
But the boy point thing was fourth and seven. I mean,

(01:19:02):
Russell Wilson, well he will, he will get a completion
part of my work. And I know they know he
wined everything else, and so I was saying that, but
you know they lost, but nothing can do by it now.
But I would say, uh, this only adds filter to
the Steelers fire. Right now, I'll say the next three games, Oh,
they're gonna wain. To my Tom's not gonna lose another

(01:19:22):
one for rest of the way. I mean, he he's good,
he's he's we're gonna beat the Ring. We're gonna beat
the Rings. I know that we're gonna beat the We're
gonna beat the Chiefs in a very very high scoring game,
and everything else. But we get your take on the
on the fourth and seventh situation, waner, what's your take
on that field?

Speaker 2 (01:19:42):
Well, we'll catch you on the other side. Uh uh
we're up against the break, but we'll let you go
keep listening and Charlie and I will provide our opinions,
uh after we come back. Thanks to Calliente Pizza and
Draft House for bringing us this hour of the Pittsburgh
Steelers Audio Network Post game Show. Call in Tap Pizza
and draft House, The Pizza of Champions. The postgame show

(01:20:03):
continues right here on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show was presented by Calciente Pizza
and Drafthouse, The Pizza of Champions.

Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
Welcome back, My PURSUITA and Charlie Batch with you putting
the finishing touches on Eagles twenty seven Steelers thirteen today
in Philadelphia. Charlie, our last caller, questioned punting the ball
with ten to twenty nine left, actually ten forty when
they punted it the way it worked out, the Eagles
started the possession at the three yard line. I'm assuming

(01:20:37):
Mike Tomlin thought there, punt them deep, get a three
and out, get the ball back at the forty yard
line or so. You're right back where you are on
fourth and seven. Not much time has gone off the clock,
and you have a first set of downs, but the
defense didn't do its part because the Eagles just possessed
the ball the rest of the way.

Speaker 4 (01:20:55):
Correct And that's where I thought it wasn't about field position.
Excuse me, and that man, I'm thinking you're not. You
didn't have many opportunities up until that point, so you've
got to figure out a way to get a rhythm
keep that possession. And when they didn't, I just thought
they would run out of time. And now ultimately that's
what happened, was Philadelphia led the clock.

Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
The entire ten twenty nine was Eagles just grinding that
game to dust. Four one two, three, three, three nine
three eight three is our number. Let's go back to
the telephones and in Baltimore, you're on with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 35 (01:21:28):
Good evening, and it's great to chat with you. We
certainly have been hearing so much about Pickens, isn't in
the game? Isn't it next player up? And when Pickens
is in the game and he is double team, aren't
there other receivers And shouldn't the Steelers be grooming them?

Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
Yeah, you're supposed to, You're.

Speaker 4 (01:21:48):
Right, But at this point of the season, when you
look at the stats, Pickens has eight hundred and fifty yards.
When you look at the rest of the group collectively,
they don't have eight hundred and fifty.

Speaker 3 (01:22:00):
So that's an issue.

Speaker 4 (01:22:01):
So when you don't have that threat and you lose
your deep, your deep play, your best player with a
deep threat opportunity with Pickens, it doesn't put a fear
in the past in the past defense of your opponent.
So they disrespected the passing element and that's resulted in
what happened. When you look at the stats, russ only
had one hundred and twenty eight yards of passing and

(01:22:22):
there wasn't Outside of that forty yard game from Kylevin Austin,
you didn't see much from the passing game.

Speaker 35 (01:22:28):
Well, and when Friar Moot gets the ball, he's been
touching it pretty well, he.

Speaker 2 (01:22:33):
Has, and you know they got it to him when
they could tonight. Let me see what he finished with.

Speaker 5 (01:22:38):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:22:38):
Pat Fryarmuth had three catches on six targets twenty two yards.
They could do more there. I'll agree with you. I
think all season, Uh, that's a guy that haven't gone
to enough.

Speaker 3 (01:22:48):
Actually, I agree with you on that.

Speaker 35 (01:22:51):
I am hopeful that we reserved all of our energy
for next week when we play the Ravens. Since I
live in Baltimore.

Speaker 2 (01:22:58):
Thank you appreciate the call. Ant let's keep the phone
calls coming in Jim in Napa Valley. You're up next
with Mike and Chuck.

Speaker 7 (01:23:08):
Hey, guys.

Speaker 30 (01:23:09):
Kind of this point loss, but it's still a lot
of encouraging signs. Something that I didn't get to see it, actually,
but I heard the broadcast and I reviewed the stats
and play by play. I saw Russ only got sacked twice.

(01:23:30):
But you know, you always hear about the all these stats,
all these stats across the NFL, and one of them
they talk about a lot is how much a time,
how much time a quarterback has dropping back pass, how
much time they have.

Speaker 10 (01:23:46):
To release the ball.

Speaker 30 (01:23:47):
And I'm wondering if anyone there, you or someone there
might know of any stats like that. It's been done
for Russell Wilson. Uh maybe maybe justin fields to to compare,
but uh, it seems like I remember Russell Wilson's first game.
He was running around. He could not stay in the pocket.

(01:24:10):
I mean it was there were people in so quickly.
He just had to bowld around, uh, towards the outside
and I'm wondering if there's any any numbers like that.
And you know, even though this was a tough game
and they played tough, but if you watch the Buffalo
Detroit game, that's those are the teams that are going

(01:24:34):
to the top, and those are the teams you'd have
to beat. And the Steelers they just don't have enough
off enough offensive weapons to hint to deal with him.
They have, you know, and Pickings is out, and besides him, frankly,
they still don't have enough that second receiver they try

(01:24:55):
to get, you know, Ayuk and somebody really good they stay.
I had a chance to get some somebody had mentioned,
like Jerry Judy there were some good ones on the market,
but it's gonna be tough to compete with them. And
and lastly, the Charlie h mostly Charlie bi By too.
But have you seen the progression of Arthur Smith's game

(01:25:21):
plan since Russ took over, of having new plays put
in or plays modified to match the receivers, the personnel,
you know, just overall the strength were lack. They're of
the offensive life and specifically the quarterback Russell Wilson. So

(01:25:44):
I'm wondering if you guys have recalled any kind of
plays they put in since like that fleet flicker was
an interesting thing of the start of the second half.

Speaker 4 (01:25:54):
Absolutely, and we appreciate the call. I really do like
the progression of Arthur Smith and what he bringing to
this offense. And you can see the design of creativity.

Speaker 3 (01:26:03):
That you're bringing.

Speaker 4 (01:26:04):
But when you don't have the plays and you can't
get into a rhythm, it's very hard to call plays
because you're trying to figure out, okay, give me your
first best down, first down play, trying to get into
the rhythm and get into the third and short opportunity,
and we could take you maybe a shot down the
field and keep the defense off balanced. But when you're don't,
you're not don't have a lot of success, Mike, You're
right off a bunch of numbers the day, third alongs

(01:26:25):
throughout the entire game, and it's just very hard to
execute when you're in that particular situation.

Speaker 2 (01:26:30):
I do think there's times also they the game plan
is opponent specific. In other words, in the Cincinnati game,
they knew that they were going to have to score
some points to beat Joe bro so they came out throwing.
I think tonight the emphasis was, Hey, we got to
run the ball because we're going to keep that Eagles
offense off the field. Now, it did not work. It

(01:26:50):
went horribly wrong. The Eagles offense was on the field
all night, but that's why they were running and trying
to stay with the run, and they just couldn't get
it established enough to get it a third manageable move
the chains and then you know Rinson repeat is necessary.
I don't know if they can't compete or not. I
know they need to be whole to give themselves their

(01:27:13):
best chance. Like you look at the Eagles the last
couple of weeks, Jalen Hurts wasn't doing much, but sa
Kuon Barkley was doing everything. Now tonight, Sakuon Barkley missed
some time with injury. He had an average night, but
the wide receiver stepped up. Because they can play it
either way. Steelers aren't there yet when they don't have
their best weapon in the passing game.

Speaker 4 (01:27:32):
They don't and that's the hardest part. Right first quarter,
you'll think, okay, this is where we're at. Philly dominated
the first quarter. Steelers were able to control that time
and possession and pretty much evened out as you got
to that halftime and then all of a sudden, things
just changed in that second half, and that starts because
you just can't get into that rhythm offensively, and when
you go three and out, guess what the more opportunity

(01:27:52):
for your opponent. Philadelphia cashed in on that.

Speaker 2 (01:27:55):
Appreciate the phone call, Jim. Let's move it on to
d C. In heart, you're up with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 8 (01:28:04):
Guys. Not such a good night. I'm I'm on bourbon.
I'm on about three bourbon's in the cigar right now.

Speaker 2 (01:28:11):
Sounds about appropriate.

Speaker 8 (01:28:16):
Your thoughts. I mean, their defense was just better than
our offense. Our offense, their offense was better on our defense.
Not a very good night. I don't think from the
players order coaches, So I'm gonna change my my original question.
What where do you think these guys are ranked right now?
In the just in the a f C, because I

(01:28:38):
don't think we're as good as what as what is advertised.

Speaker 2 (01:28:42):
I think, uh, I think there's third in the a
f C, behind Kansas City and Buffalo in whatever warrior
you want to stack them, and then it's the Steelers
number three, and until the Ravens actually beat the Steelers
in a game that matters. I'm going to continue to
rate the Steelers ahead of the Ravens. Thanks for the call,
d see we're up against the break. And thanks to
Kellienti Pizza and draft House for bringing us this hour

(01:29:05):
of the Pittsburgh Steelers Audio Network postgame Show Calliente Pizza
and draft House, The Pizza of Champions. The Postgame Show
continues right here on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (01:29:15):
The Pittsburgh Steelers Postgame Show was presented by Caliente Pizza
and Drafthouse, The Pizza of Champions.

Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
Welcome back, Mike Pursuda and Charlie Batch with you wrapping
up Eagles twenty seven, Steelers thirteen. Back to the phones
we go, David in Ohio. You're up next with Mike
and Charlie.

Speaker 30 (01:29:37):
Hi, guys, how you doing doing well?

Speaker 2 (01:29:39):
How you doing tonight? Good?

Speaker 19 (01:29:41):
Hey?

Speaker 36 (01:29:42):
Just a question on that Washington penalty beyond the end up.
First of all, do you believe that that was a
penalty on Washington pushing him back to the stands?

Speaker 4 (01:29:52):
No, I didn't think it was, And because I don't
think he heard the whistle, He was just blocking the guy.
He just happened to be a corner who is a
little smaller in stature, but Darnell's the best bocking tight
on the roster.

Speaker 36 (01:30:04):
He's allowed to block him that far back into the stands.

Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
Though, while the penalty was according to the poll report
from the officials, the penalty was for throwing a punch.
Darnel Washington and Calvin Austin were identified as having thrown punches,
and no Eagles players were identified as having thrown punches.

Speaker 36 (01:30:25):
But here, okay, but here's my question. Even if the
Philly defender has called for throwing a punch, isn't it
still two penalties on us and one on them? Therefore,
we still would go back fifteen yards because they just
declined one.

Speaker 8 (01:30:38):
Of our penalties.

Speaker 28 (01:30:40):
Wouldn't it have just worked out that no matter what,
even if they.

Speaker 36 (01:30:42):
Call it, we still go backwards fifteen yards.

Speaker 2 (01:30:44):
Now, if they're soft setting, they all said the number
doesn't matter. As long as there's one from each team,
it's dead. Okay, yeah, yeah, No, they don't add up
three on this team and two on that team, So
it's fifteen yards this way now if there's penalties on
each team, the files offset.

Speaker 36 (01:31:04):
Okay, then I answered my question. Okay, Well, thank you.
That's a good.

Speaker 4 (01:31:08):
I just think that everybody was baffled, least specially Mike
Tomlin as the fact that you mean to tell me
out of this whole squabble, not one Eagles player has
identified and throwing up penalties, at least making an offset
of penalty, offsetting penalty. It just didn't happen, especially when
you're watching a video that's coming out.

Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
And according to the poll report, because the flags were
on the ground, replay Assistant New York was allowed to
give its opinion, which is crazy, right, and that's what
that's what they came up with. So be it. Let's
go to Alvin in Florida. You're up next with Mike
and Charlie.

Speaker 20 (01:31:43):
Hey, guys, love the show. I just want to ask
you guys one question. And I've just been watching this
every you know, for the past couple of weeks. I
think teams are going at Joey Porter and Charlie. You
can you you can let me know how what you
feel about this. I think his effort is just lackluster.
He is, I mean, every play he gets burned, he

(01:32:05):
jumps up saying he got pushed off. I watched him
the night making no effort to make tackles, missing tackles.
I just want to what's going on with that. Also,
one more question the first the first and thirty in
the second and twenty, what was Mike Tomlin thinking when
he took the first, I mean the second and twenty

(01:32:27):
instead of first and thirty. Thank you guys, love your show.

Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
Appreciate to call Alvin. I don't see lack of effort
with Joey Porter, and I see them assigning him to
really good receivers on a weekly basis, and those guys
get the ball thro him too.

Speaker 3 (01:32:41):
I was just about to say, he is that heap.

Speaker 4 (01:32:42):
He is playing the number one receiver on the opponing team,
so they're gonna make some plays. I'm not as down
on Joey Porter at all. I mean, I think he's
going to be a great talent for years to come.
He think gonna be He's gonna stick around here in
Pittsburgh out of just my belief in what I have
in his young career. So I'm not down on him
him at all. But when you look at that, I
think when you look at the penalty, I think.

Speaker 2 (01:33:04):
That was the third quarter, first drive for Steelers, the
one he's talking about being declined. It was first and
twenty at the Eagles forty two and then holding decline,
So it was second and twenty to forty two and
they hit a twenty yard pass on the next play.

Speaker 4 (01:33:19):
Yeah, that's that's the one that he'll have to answer.
The question was imposed in that particular far what his
thought process was there. So it's really hard for me
to answer that question as or lose to what he
was thinking.

Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
But there is question as to what he was thinking
because he probably should have taken the penalty correct.

Speaker 10 (01:33:34):
Exactly, he should have put the penoty like why would
he take thank you, Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:33:40):
Guys, appreciate it out of Let's get one more end.
Great question before the break, Brian in South Hills, you're
up with Mike and Charlie.

Speaker 37 (01:33:48):
Eating and gentlemen, my biggest concern of the game to
night is just the lack of aggression. But why does
not why doesn't Mike Tomlin try to go for it
fourth down down two scores in the fourth quarter? You know,
you just see the bills and the lines are always
going for it. Why aren't we doing that?

Speaker 4 (01:34:07):
I just don't think that's Mike Tomlin's mentality. A lot
of it just depends on the flow of the game
and how it's unfolding. And unfortunately, when you don't have
enough plays, you don't get a rhythm, and there's not
a lot of confidence to say that you're going to
execute on that fourth and whatever down and distance that
it is so just tough to have when you don't
get the multiple, the number of plays that you need

(01:34:27):
need to get into a rhythm.

Speaker 2 (01:34:29):
