Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome to The Exchange podcast presented by When Bett. I
am your host Nick Mangold and my co host Mark Sanchez.
How are we doing today, Mark, Buddy's doing awesome. Man. Um.
All right, so I'm gonna give you a little spoiler alert. UM,
we got a great guest today. Uh comes from the
(00:29):
best college of all time university, the Ohio State University.
I was gonna say, I can't be the guest and
the co host. Um, the Ohio State University, best university
on the planet. And we have very own Garrett Wilson
with us today. UM, so I should have some fun
(00:50):
um yucking it up a little bit and uh seeing
what the rookie is all about, because he's he's doing
very well, UM, as you would expect from a player
uh from the Ohio State University. UM. But it got
me thinking, like I was reminiscing a little bit, you know,
when when we found out that we were going to
be able to get Garrett. And you know, it's been
sixteen years since I was back in college, um, which
(01:14):
is crazy to me. UM. And so just drumming up.
And I've been back a couple of times, UM, not
as much. How recently have you been back like in
the last year. No. UM. Last time I was back
on campus was two thousand and nineteen. Okay, pretty pandemic
that the first year Ryan Dave was coaching UM. Quite
(01:35):
possibly a j Hawk. Gott In inducted into the HIU
State Hall of Fame. UM. So I went back for
his game, UM, and so it was just it was
a quick hitter. So I didn't get to do like
the tour or anything. UM. Would they ever let you?
Would they ever let you dot the I? UM? Probably not?
Why I don't know why would they? Why wouldn't they?
(01:58):
I would have to do probably with your attitude Nick
ask them. I don't know. I don't even know who
you ask. That's the fun. Like people are like, oh,
do you ever make it back? I'm like, I don't
know who to call to make it. We should make
it back. Do you think I can get on the
Trojan horse or put the sword in the middle of
the field with the Tommy Trojan outfit, or you can
dot the eye? And who could do it first? I
(02:20):
feel like you could somehow finagle USC into letting you
do that. What do you mean, what do you mean
I think you could? I think I don't know, Like
dotting the eye was always awesome. Um, if you could
get to do it, I'm gonna end up dotting the
ad before you. I'm gonna go to grad school there
just so I can go the eye. Uh, you don't
(02:43):
have to get your undergrad first. Um, trying to think
I got a piece of paper. I don't know. What's
what's What's the number one thing you miss from my
favorite one of my favorite memories in college, not favorite memories,
but what you miss about? Like you know what I
used to love is I was one of the only
guys with the car Okay freshman year, and it was
(03:05):
this old beat up silver like sun spotted uh Honda Civic.
But the catch was everybody wanted to use it. And
the problem because it was a stick shift, and I
used to hate, hate, hate that my dad made me
learn on a stick shift. I didn't get my license
till I was eighteen because I didn't want to go
(03:26):
to driving school with my dad because I knew he
was gonna take me to the parking lot at the
high school and set up cones and do the whole
freaking wedding crashers. Like course on driving they were cones.
They could have been guest at my wedding. So, um,
he's making me back up and do this and do that,
(03:47):
and drive on hills and hit the clutch so you can,
you know, um, when you're when you're stopped on a hill,
you can at a red light, you can hit the
clutch and like or the e blake e break and
uh and then start inching the car forward and then
release the break and you can go in a stick shift. Um,
but stuff like that. So everybody always wanted the car.
(04:07):
When people would come visit, Hey can I go pick
up my friend at the airport? My girl needs to
go here, blah blah blah. I want to take her
on a date. Like, let me use your car, so
no problem. We'd always walk out to the car and
they're like, what's that thing in the middle, and nobody
could drive it? So it was it was awesome, dude.
I really enjoyed that. That's yeah, it's funny that there's
(04:27):
um like, stick shift is one of the few things anymore,
like you either know how to do it or you don't.
When you teach your kids. Oh yeah, right, just one
more thing you can do. I feel like I feel
like yeah, it should be. There's no reason for them
to know it like they Yeah. But um, I think
(04:49):
it's just one of those things that the Pythagoran theorem. Dude,
I haven't used that thing once. A squared plus B
squared equals C squared. I mean, it's very useful and
every day like h Um. But yeah, so that I
will teach the kids. Um, but we I think we've
probably reminisced too much already. Um, I'm gonna get yelled
at for going too long. Let's bring in Garrett. Let's
(05:10):
go bring in Garrett and talk about how great the
Ohio State University is. Um. And uh, I'm really looking
forward to chatting with this young man. We'll bring him
in now, all right, and now let's bring in Garrett
Wilson from the Ohio State University. Garrett, how you doing today?
I'm doing well. How are you doing very well? Let's
talk a little bit about High State because we can
(05:31):
forget about Mark for this time right now. I want
to want to relive a little bit because it's been
sixteen years for me since I was last there, um,
which seems like forever ago. It seems like campuses have changed.
But yeah, you just you shoot you. Um. What was
your favorite thing about playing at the Ohio State University.
UM probably had the whole campus shut down. Um, you know,
(05:52):
starting early in the morning when we were all the
way in the games, they would already be like out
partying and tailgating, and obviously we never got to a
pardon that, but it just looked like fun, man, and
it got me up and it got me feeling good
and feeling like, you know, I gotta um do something
and make all these fans happy before they leave, you know.
So that was my favorite thing. I love it. And
(06:12):
so favorite food place on campus. Um, it's probably changed.
I mean I don't think there's any of my favorite, Like,
my favorite was Tommy's Pizza. Tommy still they're still there. Yeah. Um,
Tommy's is good. UM. I like Grandview Cafe a whole lot.
It's not on campus, a little bit out the way,
about five minutes off campus. But that's really good. Good.
(06:35):
You're talking about food. I love all food. It's good stuff. UM.
What's your favorite tradition do they still do? Um for
Michigan Week, did have the band come in and march
with the band. Guys still do that too, and we
got to play the instruments and all that. That's how
a lot of fun. Which interesting? Did you go for it? So?
I didn't get the too. I got the Yeah, someone
got to I forget. Dwine had the too. But Dwine
(06:57):
Jones the left tackles there now, um, But I the drums.
I don't know, honestly, at that point of the day,
I was kind of ready to go home. This past year,
it was like after practice and it was like one
of those longer I don't know. I should have had
a better attitude about it, but I had the drums.
I didn't really mess around him too much. But there's
a lot of fun. Didn't go off on them. Nah, big,
(07:17):
what's the big one? It was the regular little nick cannon.
If you've seen a drumline, have you seen that? Yeah?
It was like so I grabbed that one, and I
was feeling good about it. But all right, Mark, we'll
let you back into this. Were reminisced about too much.
Can I jump in now? I guess you can jump
in fire away. You know I almost committed to Ohio State. Guys,
(07:38):
I didn't know that. I know you didn't. I swear
to God. When was this? They had my high school
highlights on in the horse shield on the big screen.
They had the band they're playing for me. Um, gave
me the jersey. We walk out. Coach Trussell's there. It
was like, I was like, oh my god, dude, I'm
gonna be a buck Eye. I saw Santonio Holmes I
(08:00):
actually working out in the off season. This was like
March or April or something, and he was back there
working out. I was like, dude, this place is the best.
They were just building some of their new facilities, and
then Coach Trussell said, um, I'll never forget. He said, um,
it's awesome. You know, we played Michigan every year right
around Thanksgiving, and the last ten years in a row,
it's snowed. It's like breaking, like what did you say?
(08:27):
Looking at my dad, like what are you talking about that?
Playing this? Canceled the game? Coach exactly close the roads
canceled the game. It was that's embarrassing. So I was
almost a Buckeye man and I didn't know that. That's
news to me too. You never told me that. But okay,
I gotta know about Draft Day. I know Nick and
(08:49):
I both have some fun stories about that kind of stuff.
But you got to do it in Vegas. I mean,
can you tell us are you allowed to tell us anything? Man? Uh?
So I actually flew out the same I got drafted,
and you know New York flew out here. Yeah, exactly,
so five hour as soon as I got drafted. That's
the way they wanted to do it. So I didn't
(09:10):
really get to spend that time in the in the city,
which probably a good thing man, honestly, Um, but you know,
it could have been a good night. I'm sure my
family had a good time out there. They still had
the party that they had planned. They had the party
without me, exactly. No, Yeah, they had the party. And
I'm not the only one in Jermaine and Sauce, you know,
they all had the same the same problem. But it
(09:32):
was cool out there's a cool environment. They had a
good little set up for the for the draft. Oh man,
Well anything from your family, I mean, you got you
got any good stories? Everybody win any money or anything? Nah,
I mean, if they did, they didn't fill me in.
I don't know. I don't know. I'm sure they were. Well.
They obviously didn't lose either, because they might have called you.
(09:54):
They knew that wouldn't go though they knew that wouldn't go.
We're gonna sign that contract quick. We got a casino.
We gotta pay um. And so I've seen social media
wise and whatnot that this rookie class has been doing
a fantastic job and yourself included, and you're winning these
(10:16):
um PEPSI zero Sugar Rookie of the Week like w
W E belts and so like is there are you
putting them on the wall? Are you carrying it around
like you just strap it on? You walk through the
training room like that's this is mine. Nah. Honestly, they're
sitting downstairs waiting to be like put into um, you know,
(10:38):
like a cooler. I got some jerseys down there too
that you're just waiting to be put put up into
something where I can set up I don't know what
you call it, um like your man cave. Yeah, exactly,
a man cave exactly exactly. Um. I haven't got around
to it, yeah obviously with the being the season, but
you know, like you said, I should put it on, man,
just one of these days I'll put it on and
(11:00):
we're through Times Square exactly. I think could be pretty funny.
Slap the thing on you walk through the training room
to go get taped. Definitely, Buddy, I definitely been Lario.
Have you guys gotten into like a healthy competition about this,
because I mean, yeah, a little bit. I mean we
kind of Me and Sauce are messing around with it
yesterday talking about who's gonna win, and I tell him
the crazy thing is if you're nominated, like it's a
(11:20):
lot with this with the fan base, like they're not losing,
so like, once you see your name up there, you know,
you kind of know that you might be getting about
this week and it's kind of inevitable. So see again,
smart people come from I love it. Yeah, that's what
that's what they would create. Like it is what it
is falls Fallers very humble, Um, don't take themselves too seriously.
(11:45):
What else do you want from the university? All right,
that's enough? All right, tell me about these other rookies
we got on the jets, I mean, you and Sauce.
This group looks pretty close. I know Breece went down
earlier in the year, but I know you guys are
still tight with him. It looks like a fun group,
you know, and when you get draft picks like that,
you acquire that many draft picks and they're coming together.
(12:07):
You're kind of you know that Ricky class. You kind
of you know, look out for each other, stick up
for each other, and want to compete against each other
and for each other. How how great is this group
to be a part of. Yeah, it's been good to
have you know a lot of dudes going through the
same thing I'm going through. Um. You know, usually when
you're a draft pick and you go on the first night,
you're kind of the only one usually going to that
(12:28):
city or going to that team, and you're kind of
expected to take on all that. But but having Sauce
and and and Jermaine and Breeze, you know, I feel
like the pressure hasn't been too much on any of
us and we've just been able to take in the
experience and um, you know, bounce, bounce our thoughts off
each other. Um, and just you know, comparing contrast with
what we're going through different the stuff that helps. And
(12:49):
you know, I know, we got each other's back. And
like you said, coming in with a group like this,
you know, it's a luxury. Not everyone gets this, So
we're really lucky to, uh, you know, have each other
you mentioned that having other guys with you drafted in
that first round and that it takes a little bit
of pressure off. I was fortunate that I was drafted
with Brickshaw Ferguson. Um. We were both in the first round,
and you're right, like I skated through as a first
(13:09):
round draft pick, but I had none of the responsibility
because Brick had to do it. I mean, he was
number four overall, and so like it was always like,
all right, we need, we need, we need the first
round draft pick, and like, well Brick was first, he
had to go, so um, so you're right, it like it.
It's it's an obviously a very neat experience being able
to go through something like this with a guy, in
(13:30):
your case, two guys that are doing the exact same thing.
So like it was and hopefully you know, we do
a great job of keeping you guys together and carry
through because Brick and I played together for ten years,
so we got to go through the whole um from
Senior Bowl through both of our retirements of like, all right,
you know, this is growing up together, and so it's
it's a pretty neat and ring of Honora and I
(13:52):
got to be there when they talked at UM the
lunching about a few months ago. So I got the
kick off exactly. UM, so yeah, so it's neat and
so like have you guys it gave a speech. They
were just more chopping it up. It was natural. It
was cool, man, he wasn't it seemed like he was
forcing anything. They were just play exactly, shocking it up.
(14:13):
Anything good? Can Garrett? This will tell me if he
said anything good? Can you remember one thing? Nick said?
I can't remember a whole bunch of stuff. UM. Honestly.
The craziest thing though, that they said that I didn't
know that um Brake had never missed a practice or
something by that. And then they said how he went
out on like a trick play because of the personnel
(14:34):
wasn't including him or something. I kind of forget the
exact details. It was a minute ago. And I'll give
you credit for that list. And I don't remember what
I said, so anybody else remember. But it was so
Brick played every snap, UM, every practice, every game. He
missed one one snap because it was a trick player
playing Indianapolis UM at home and UM we were down
(15:00):
by like five, there was four seconds left, were on
and I think like somewhere in like the thirty five
forty yard line on our side. So we went with
like one of those you know where everyone just laterals
it back and forth. So and Mark, I don't know
if you know this. The person that came in Do
you know who the team wasn't? No, you weren't. Um,
this is pre you. But this is a good trip me.
(15:20):
It's a Jets trivia question because Brick is immortalized in
the Ring of Honor. Who came in at left tackle
for Brick? And so he missed that one play? Do
you know were they on the team when I was there? Yes,
I'll give, I'll give. I mean it's Brad Smith. Wait
(15:41):
what did you say, Mark, Brad Smith? Brad Smith? Would
you like to take a guess? And I'll give you
a hint? Um a famous dB ah see the High
State guys. No, he came, he came in a left tackle.
(16:01):
I think the play ending a left tackle number twenty four.
I think the play ended with me fumbling. Um, so
that was someone. It never worked. Someone's gonna end it,
and I think it was me. Have you ever heard that?
Have you ever heard that play called pitchy pitchy woo woo. No,
what's that? Everybody's like, whoo whoo. I'm open and no
(16:22):
one's open. Is that what you call it? The UNFC?
Probably because we definitely didn't call that here, pit pit
pit pit. Who. All right, let's talk a little bit
um outside activities. Apparently you're a decent basketball player. Yeah,
I played basketball going up. Um, it's my first love.
And my dad, my dad played, my brother's played. I mean,
(16:43):
we're a basketball family. Yeah, and we're supposed to. Can
you who we're supposed to be? You're supposed to? I
can hoop, I can hoo, man a little bit? Are
you like? Are you like okay? Who's your game? Like?
Are you uh you got a solid jump shot? Are
you a driving dish like distributor? Point guard? Are your
scoring point guard? What you know? I'm a distributor. But
(17:04):
I would get you know, I could get some buckets too,
I would say I played like, Um, I don't know,
I don't know. I was pretty good. I'm John Morant.
Are you playing above the rim? Are you? What's a
little bit of that? A little bit of that? I
don't know, man, I was I was a good good
at finding my teammates. But take with the defense gave.
I wasn't a great shooter because I was always coming
(17:24):
over from a football season. So, you know it, to
be really really good at basketball, you gotta play every day.
You know. It's kind of one of those things. And
I never got that that time to put into it
every day just because I was always splitting um. But
I was pretty good, though. Man, I could have played,
you know, in college. He played in high school though,
Yeah I did. Could you have played in college? Yeah,
(17:46):
yeah I did. I had a few offers, actually had
a few offers. I played a ball real serious, seriously
until to my senior year. So Rick Barnes, anybody you
played with, anybody who played with in a you that
went on or played against that went on your damn.
I remember playing against so so Tyrese Maxie. He's playing
at him all the time. Greg Brown's with with the
(18:07):
Trailblazers and he was on my team going up, Wow, Mark,
you played basketball, didn't you? Yeah? But I was like,
you know, in but on the ball, chuck it down
the court if I could. If I can't, I'm getting
you know, ten to twelve rebounds. Go abuse their big
man just stand on the block, so he has to
stand another two feet outside just to draw them office game,
(18:30):
you know, use all five fouls, maybe score four points
to free throws and like a breakaway lay up. You're
a board man, how to all you like six three
six six. I'm like six to and change, dude. But
I was like in there like robbing on the all
over the quarters that was getting boards at six one.
That's hard, bro, That's all I do. I'd go in
(18:51):
there and bang and uh, you know, make it easier
on our real basketball players. We had a bunch of
football players that would just come off the bench and
use all the fouls and go chick y'all come like
halfway through the season. I know exactly. That was me.
I know you're talking about. Say I was in the
stands so that my basketball was in the stands. That
(19:13):
was too uncoordinated, so had to wrestle. It was can
you imagine wrestling personally ring worm and getting all sweating
like personally no. One time I wrestled, I like broke
my back. I did it for five years. I wrestled
eighth and then through high school. I hated. I can't
see one of those singlets every minute of it. It
(19:33):
was the worst thing ever. But that's how bad I
sucked at basketball that I had to do wrestling because
they wouldn't even let me like try out. Yeah, like
just go do that. You need you have to do something,
Go do that because you can't do basketball. So that's
that's my career basketball career. I was sucked. I missing, though,
(19:54):
I missing. I love basketball, I love hoops. It's not good.
It was comical. Wait. How are those basketball games at
Ohio State? They're pretty good? Right, Oh, yeah, they're all right,
they're right. They'd beat Dupe last year. Um, they ain't
consistent the best way I can put it, they ain't consistent. Yeah,
it's always a good atmosphere. Yah. Shotenstein is uh cool stadium.
(20:17):
I've been going there since I was a young young kid,
you know, growing up and growing up in the area.
So now being up in New York and you're here
right a little bit, Yeah, I'd like to say a
little bit, a little bit, a little bit. What's her
basketball team? I'm Knicks fan? Okay, alright, yeah, I grew
up playing, so it kind of that works out well
(20:38):
with the Knicks being right there at the MSG. Just
like training easy, easy piece about what's about fifty minutes. Yeah,
it's nice because I'm a big Rangers fan. Okay, hockey
and everything they playing MSG too. Yeah, it's right there.
So have you gotten out much in the city game.
I like, I like the shop, and I like the
food man. It's it's uh. I don't make it out
(21:00):
that often, to be honest, but well, in season of stuff,
unless you're Mark Sanchez, you were in every Friday we got.
There's no wrong with that either. At the end of that,
anytime I don't go to the city, I wish I went.
I wish you always. I always wish I went. The
New York Post, Yeah, the tabloid page six. We would
(21:24):
always be Saturday morning going through page six seeing where
Mark was. Yeah, oh yeah, we do it on the bus, dude.
We could get so mad if they wouldn't even talk.
They don't even talk to me, and they would just
read the stuff on the bus instead of asking me.
They would just read the paper and kind of like
put it up so I can see it. Mark is
where you were at yesterday? Yeah? So Junior High. So
(21:47):
it's her name. I mean it was fun. But anyway,
well enough that I've made fun of Mark. Enough about that,
all right, So to wrap it up, we always do
some quick fire questions. First thing pops in your head,
It's it's nothing crazy, Um, It's just it's a fun
way to to kind of get to know you more
and also uh enjoy some of the answers. So I'm
(22:08):
gonna lead it off, and the first one, do you
would you prefer a Buckeye the candy or a buck
eyed donut? Buck? I donut, all right, peanut butter with
the chocolate. I mean they're really good. I don't get
me wrong with that. Breakfast sandwich at a Buckeye Donuts
and it's open till I think it's open twenty four hours.
(22:31):
Not bad. I can't beat that. Can't beat that. So Mark,
ever had a Buckeye? I think actually, now that you mentioned,
I think I have. Um, but the doughnuts sounds pretty good.
We had donuts is so good. We had from friends
come up and brought some buck Eyes and I haven't
had one of them like two years. They're so good.
They're so good. So you're getting made right. What were
(22:52):
they the what's the brand called Anthony whatever? The famous
one forget it's called no free ads here on the exchange,
we're getting deep in the woods in Ohio State, Like, um,
what about okay? If you had to pick a um,
you got the lead in the basketball game, you're playing
for the Knicks, you're at msg, crowd's going wild, you
(23:14):
get a breakaway windmill dunk, the place just erupts. Or
you want like a fade away three pointer to win
the game, fade away three you didn't even think about something,
gonna remember windmills dunks and windmill dunk. But you know,
it's cool. It's cool. That's fair. It's not fair. I
(23:37):
like that, all right. So if you're out with the
guys and uh, you know, you're having jokes, having a
good time, would you rather hear a funny story or
get z with a one liner? Let me explain that second.
I'm not I'm not just the one liner, like um uh,
mark hit me with the one liner, you know, like
yeah your mom or I don't know, like quick like
(23:59):
quick coming. Definitely rather hear a joke, the funny story
because at the end of the day that I'm gonna
win that battle. If they try to do the one liners,
I just call it a roast. That's that's the Yeah, okay,
I mean like a roast basically is what you all
are saying. Yeah, pretty much essentially. Okay, we gotta update
our lingo. Sorry dude, now, y'all are good. But either
way on that one, actually I can go on a
(24:19):
roast battle, but I'd like to hear a funny story too,
if it's actually funny. You know, that's the problems funny.
This is a good idea. Let's just roast most funny
stories you've been coming as you how you try to
return it. Most funny stories get ruined because someone says, oh,
I have a funny story exactly, and then they tell
the story. You're like, well it wasn't really that funny,
my host, you get me all exciting point, Like, I'd
(24:41):
rather just hear like, hey, I have the story, then
afterwards like that's funny. That's a good point. So I'm
never gonna start off my that's a good point. Actually,
I'm gonna start off by saying, I have a story,
no matter what it is, undersell over, deliver exactly story.
What about would you rather see a comedian in a
serious film or a serious actor in a comedy, Um,
(25:11):
a serious actor in the comedy because I could still.
I mean, if they're funny in a funny movie, then
you know, I can I can respect that and be like,
oh yeah, Like it's not gonna my As far as
seeing them, I'm not gonna only see them as a
serious actor if they have some good jokes, but like
a funny actor like Terry Crews. Anytime you try to
pop out in a in a real movie, it's like
(25:32):
Terry Crews. Bro Right, Terry Crews. I see him as
a you know, dancing And who's your favorite actor? My
favorite actor? That's a tough question. Uh, probably Matthew McConaughey.
For real. I'm from Austin, Texas. You know, I like
I like Interstellar and I love movies man for real.
But alright, alright, alright, DiCaprio, I like Autumn Boy. I
(25:56):
don't know that's tough man. Alright. So, if you're at
the pool, are you gonna test the water, dip your
toe in, or you're just gonna dive into the deep end? No,
I'm testing the water. You're checking first, and that's after
like a deep twenty minute thought about it. If I
was even gonna get in the first place, I'm not
no way. I'm just jumping in and not a big
(26:19):
pool guy. You gotta check your swim meets your floaties. Yeah, man,
I mean, you know it's it's gonna be the right day,
all right. So the last one I got for you
keeping it in in New York. Which do you prefer, Empire,
State Building, Statue of Liberty. I'm a statue of Liberty.
I love history and uh you know the history of
(26:39):
that and just like putting myself in the people that
came all those years ago shoes. When I see it,
you know, it's really cool and uh yeah, that was
one of the first things I wanted to do once
I got up here to see that check it out. Yeah.
The first time I've ever been in New York City
was in March, and then I ended up getting drafted
(26:59):
here of the month after, so it's just crazy how
that worked. But yeah, I saw the Statue of Liberty,
walked to Brooklyn Bridge the first time when I came
and drove up from Ohio. It was cool, so you know,
I got to experience it, experience it all. It's a
boring drive from Ohio, it is. You've done it a
few times a couple of times long and take you
like driving through Ohio in general or really pensive exactly.
(27:22):
It's it's nice wherever you're having it's not it's not
ugly though, it's actually it's a it's pretty scenic drive
a little bit not in Pennsylvania. I feel like the
amount I like nature and stuff, you know, man, simple man, Garrett,
We really appreciate it. Other than the whole Ohio state thing.
I think you're a great guy. I think you're a
(27:42):
huge addition to the Jets. That's obvious. You're have an
incredible rookie year, buddy, and we love watching you. Stay healthy.
Good luck and thanks, come, appreciate any be good to

New York, Tennessee, and Virginia. Welcome back to the Exchange
presented by wind Bet. That was a great interview with
Garrett Wilson, young talented rookie wide receiver. Um. You know,
obviously I knew he was gonna be good from his
time at o High State. Um Mark, would you, uh,
what was your favorite takeaway there? Well, I really liked
(29:09):
him in the draft. I know, um talking to his
head coach in college, Ryan Day. Uh, he was our
quarterback coach in uh in Philly, so I've kept a
relationship with him, but he was so high on him. Obviously,
Chris Olave got a ton of the recognition at Ohio State,
But I mean Garrett Wilson really carved out a niche
for himself and it was an amazing target in college
and it's already transferring over his rookie year. You could tell, um,
(29:32):
you know his basketball background, he just gets it like spacing, um,
running routes versus man as opposed to zone, understanding how
to play the game. And he's only getting better. So
um for him. You know, this guy's a limit and
the Jets are fortunate to have a young stud like that. Yeah,
and seems like a guy. And I'll wait till after
the season, but it seems like a guy that you
(29:54):
go out and get a beer with. Um, totally normal kid, Right,
it's very chill, awesome. You never and it's it was.
I mean I knew that as he's in the Ohio
State University alumni. But we just keep him with a theme. Um,
but let's talk speaking of themes, let's talk Turkey, let's
talk let's talk a little Thanksgiving, because you know, football
(30:16):
season it kind of revolves around this fall time and
the fall hits some of your major holidays. You know,
you get your you get your Labor Day, Uh, the
end of summer, Uh, you get Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Um,
what am I missing in there? Anything? Any other? Hello? Hello?
Which what are you dressing up? As? We were a
(30:39):
naughty blank um, a naughty nurse. Uh. The family was
our our Halloween costume this year, Harry Potter, so we
um we got into Yeah, okay, who are you? No?
I wanted to be Haggard, but um, the kids maybe
be Dumbledore. Um oh yeah that's fair too. Yeah, okay,
(31:01):
was good. But I wish I had bought um some
white beard spray. I think that would have been pretty cool.
I just kind of forgot about that the next time.
Maybe a little effort for your kids. I don't know.
I was in full costume was Daniel. It's actually really funny.
My son DJ he's about to turn six and he
(31:22):
was He was all into um, Godzilla or no, no,
excuse me, King Kong. So he's King Kong. Uh he
you know, get the deal off of off of Amazon
or whatever. And it comes up in the costume looks
more like the Monkey from Outbreak than King Kong, but
(31:42):
that's no idea, and he thinks it's awesome, right, So
I get he wants me to be Godzilla so we
could have a huge battle. And then my fiance was Sasquatch.
Just these three weird creatures walking down the street. That's fantastic. Yeah,
we we do. I love the costume extravagance of it
(32:05):
because like it's it's neat and the kids enjoyed too.
But has um has dj gotten into power rangers yet?
So he's not a big power Ranger guy. Um, you
know he loves the Godzilla stuff. He loves superheroes still.
You know, he's big into big superhero Spider Man, Iron Man,
d C. Marvel, the whole deal there. Pokemon. Um not
(32:27):
a ton of Pokemon either, and and his buddies at
school aren't totally into that. Yeah, they're more like superhero stuff.
Because he's only in kindergarten. So yeah, that's so that's
when Pokemon exploded for because my son's a year older
than dj Um. Okay, so he's um, he's huge Pokemon.
(32:47):
Last year it seems to have dropped off, Yeah for kindergarten,
Like they all the kids will come running out of
school and they have like the little binders and they'd
just be trading cards back and forth, like what's going
on around here? It's just what about? What about remember POGs?
He love POGs, dude, I would love I have no
(33:11):
idea how the game was played, but just we gotta
hit it with the slammer and then you know, you
try and knock out or flip over the other person's
bogs and then you could take them and then you'd
play for slammers. It's like racing for pink slips, dude,
like fast and furious. I was just collecting. I was like,
I'm just want all the slammers. Oh those are the days. Um.
But yeah, so like it's neat that football coincides with
(33:34):
the different holidays, um, because you never did Uh did
you ever do the Jets Halloween party? Yeah? That was
Spider Man. You only did it one year. I'm pretty
sure I remember the first because we didn't go. We
didn't go when we didn't have kids because I felt
(33:54):
like it was that would just be weird. But once
I know you like that because you are a kid. Uh,
we get all the five to ten year olds. Really,
we were on the same wavelength there pretty much. Um.
I was. I was so pumped though when we did
have our first that I was like, all right, finally
(34:16):
we had to go. So we have the whole costume
and everything, and so uh my son went as a monkey. Yeah,
I feel like everybody does animals. We did too. We
made him a little cow. Yeah, and I was I
was the um. He was curious George, and so I
was demanding the yellow hat Um still one of my
(34:36):
favorite costumes. That's great. Yeah, it was a good time.
I love dressing up. I think it's the kids. The
kids love it, so I think that's that's what makes
it um. I think that. And then stealing candy. How
much candy be stolen? See, my dad wasn't big on
having candy at the house, and I knew I wasn't
(34:58):
gonna eat it anyway. Like I get this whole knapsack
full of candy, and then it just became a weight
that I'm carrying around all night, and I'm like, this
is stupid. I'm not gonna eat it anyway. So I'd
kind of just like hang in the back and not
really get the candy. You're the only kid that went
trick or treating and didn't get candy? Yeah, I mean
we just didn't. We just weren't really big. I don't know,
(35:19):
I wasn't really big in the candy. But then I
waited until I grew up and kind of regressed and
went with little kids to get like a total creep.
I guess so DJ had his bag and you had
a bag next to him, pushing him out of the way.
I went first DIBs on the candy. I know we're
(35:40):
my god man, I know where the king sized bars are?
Who got to go to those houses? Uh? This This
has been a fantastic episode of the Exchange, presarned by
wind bet Um. Thank you again to Garrett Wilson's coming
in and being with us, and thank you Mark for
messing it up every chance. You got just a couple
(36:00):
of high state guys trying to have a little chat
and just kept talking. Yeah, well whatever, but had a
lot of fun. Thank you all for listening. UM, I'm watching,
UM you look forward to seeing in your next half.
